August 2024 - Issue #313 -26th Anniversary

Letter From The Editors

ugust is a huge month for the Carolinas’ full throttle family.

The August magazine marks the 26th Anniversary of our first issue. Yep, way back in August of 1998, Mark and Molly Infield delivered the first ever Full Throttle Magazine in the Carolinas. It’s amazing to look back and see how far the magazine and the motorcycle community has come in the past 26 years. A lot has changed. When the magazine started there was hardly an internet, we used a fax machine like it was going out of style, and soon it would. Cell phones were only used by Zack Morris or rich dudes in Mercedes. We did have some sweet pagers, though. We shot with film cameras and hoped the shot turned out. Harley was still running Evo engines and Indian Motorcycle revival was still a year away. I’m not gonna tell you what the gas price was...

We’ve made a lot of friends, covered thousands of rides, parties, rallies and ridden all up and down the east coast recording the history of motorcycling as it happened. Huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to the magazine, supported us and all the positive comments over the years. Cheers! We will be celebrating our anniversary at Double D Burnout Saloon in Kernersville, NC on Sunday, August 25. It’s Sunday Funday at Double D so there will be live music, drink specials, food and good times. Stop by and help us celebrate.

This month’s cover features Tobacco Road Harley-Davidson, the heart of Harley-Davidson in the Carolinas. They have an iconic dealership on South Saunders St. Raleigh, NC. We’ve been partying there for years. Mark Hendrix and company work hard to bring you the best Harley-Davidson has to offer and is the leader in custom and hard to find Harley-Davidson motorcycles. If you want it, they either have it, or will get it for ya! You can read up on their latest custom, the Altered Ego 2024 CVO Street Glide on page 6 of this issue. They also host a ton of great events so make sure to check out their ad or the Cruisin’ Calendar to see what they have going on! Get out there, ride your motorcycle and have some fun.

Turn Heads Day & Night

Meet The Altered Ego 2024 CVO Street Glide!

Get ready to turn heads all day and night with the stunning 2024 CVO Street Glide, custom painted by the legendary Shane Quick of Altered Ego Custom Paint, featuring the revolutionary LumiLor technology! This masterpiece, completed right here at Tobacco Road Harley-Davidson, is not just a bike—it’s a work of art that demands attention.

A Groundbreaking First

We’re proud to announce that Tobacco Road Harley-Davidson is the first dealership in the country to offer a custom bike like this. This isn’t just any custom job; it’s a pioneering fusion of cutting-edge technology and expert craftsmanship that sets a new standard in motorcycle customization. This 2024 CVO Street Glide is truly one of a kind. Shane Quick will never replicate this design, making it a unique piece of art on wheels. To certify its exclusivity, Shane has signed under the gas tank, ensuring that this bike remains a singular creation.

Why LumiLor?

LumiLor is a game-changer in the world of custom paint. This patented Light Emitting Coating (LEC) system transforms any surface into a vibrant, glowing spectacle. Here’s why it’s a must-have for your ride:

• High Visibility: LumiLor shines brightly through fog and rain, without the harsh glare of traditional lighting. Your bike will be visible in any weather, ensuring safety and style.

• 3D Contouring: The thin, flexible nature of LumiLor means it can be applied to any shape or contour, making it perfect for the sleek curves of the Street Glide.

• Cool to Touch: LumiLor is energy efficient and stays cool, allowing it to be used in places other lights can’t go.

• Water-Resistant: Durable and long-lasting, LumiLor can light up water-resistant surfaces, ensuring your bike looks fantastic in all conditions.

• Controllable: With remote control capabilities, you can program LumiLor to turn on/off, flash, sequence, or even dance to music. Customize your glow to match your mood and style.

Performance That Roars

This isn’t just a pretty face. The 2024 CVO Street Glide comes equipped with a Stage I kit, including a Vance & Hines 2-1 exhaust that ensures you’ll be heard before you’re seen. The deep, throaty roar of this beast announces your arrival with authority.

Experience the Masterpiece

Seeing is believing. This extraordinary bike is ready for you to check out at Tobacco Road Harley-Davidson. Whether you’re cruising the streets or showing off at bike nights, the Altered Ego custom-painted 2024 CVO Street Glide with LumiLor will make sure you stand out from the crowd. Don’t miss your chance to own a piece of rolling art that combines cutting-edge technology, unparalleled performance, and jaw-dropping aesthetics. Visit us today and let your Altered Ego shine!

WESTSIDE TWINS HAS IT ALL Bike Sales - Service - Accessories - Experience

ne of the newest motorCyCle shops you must put on your list to visit is Westside Twins in Statesville, NC. Just off I-40 at Exit 148, is an independent dealership that can put you on a nice bike, upgrade the one you love now and set you up with all the gear. Last month I sat down with Janette Thornley to see what she has going on at Westside Twins.

I first met Janette at the drag strip. She was racing a Pro Fuel Harley and winning. Over the years I learned that she worked for The Harley-Davidson Motor Company in a few different roles. Her riding and business experience is now being shared with her customers.

Originally from Oregon, she moved to Baltimore when she was 19. While working at E A Engineering, her boss turned 50 and said he wanted a motorcycle. Out of the blue, that conver sation got her interested in motorcycles too. She didn’t come from a motorcycling family.

that I hope new motorcyclists will look to us for advice on,” she said. “One of the goals with our pre-owned clothing and apparel is that you can get properly fitted with the right gear.”

Thirty years ago, we didn’t have as many women riders nor the mentors to help them get the right gear.

By 1998 Janette was really enjoying motorcycling, but the payment was mak- ing her lifestyle a little “tight.” She saw an advertisement for motorcycle instructors. One weekend a teaching other riders would cover her motorcycle payment. She got certified and I found it so rewarding.

Janette signed up for the motorcycle safety riders’ course in October 1995. By spring she bought an 883 Sportster and started gaining experience. “I bought all the wrong riding gear at the start. That’s one of the things

“I was a typical weekend rider. Doing my corporate job during the week, working at T. Rowe Price,” she said.

By 2001 Janette was loving the safety training aspect so much she asked the state folks who ran the program how could she get more involved. She was invited to the national meeting of safety instructors. There she met the Harley-Davidson folks who were get- ting ready to launch Harley’s motorcycle safety course, Rider’s Edge, which became the Riding Academy.

“They asked me to submit an application to be part of their

Story and photoS by alan dockery

program. I was like ‘Me.’ I didn’t apply at first since I was intimidated by the Motor Company and I’m just Janette,” she said. “Six months later, they still hadn’t found the right person. Soon, I was the Lead Instructor who helps train the trainers. As a very young business in Harley-Davidson, they needed someone with corporate experience to understand how to support the internal business.”

Janette moved from Maryland to Wisconsin in 2001. For eight years she was a Lead Instructor, helping Harley dealers set up their programs. She moved to the service side of Harley, becoming a Service Operations Area Rep. That lead to moving back to the west coast and working for Harley several more years. By 2016, she was back on the east coast in North Carolina. She married Buddy and was working with Harley dealers individually to solve service issues.

I got to know Janette at the Drag Strip. For a few years she was a star in the Pro Dragster / Pro Fuel class. Folks called her Nitro Granny. The ladies fired up the stands when she won.

“In 2006 back in Wisconsin I went to a local track for Bike Night. I did the typical thing, ‘Hey there’s a girl out there.’ Folks told me that anyone can run their bikes. Next Wednesday I was out there on my FXR running my bike,” she said. Janette didn’t really get into it. “In 2011 I was setting up Ray Price’s Riding Academy. We were upstairs in the penthouse watching NHRA. Later at a drag strip in Oregon I saw Ray. We became friends. Back in North Carolina I went to races and followed his career.”

Janette found out about Johnny Vickers’ Nitro Drag School and was in the October 2011 class. She rented a bike and raced that weekend and qualified 16. Went out the first round, but she was hooked. Over the winter she and Buddy bought a Pro Fuel bike. Pro Fuel bikes are the small nitro bikes with 120 cubic inch engines, carburetors and single speed only.

They fill the air with nitromethane, rattle your chest and run 7.30’s all day.

During her ten years competing in Pro Fuel, Janette was successful. She won four championships in the National Hot Rod Association, American Motorcycle Racing Association and the American Drag Racing League. Her quickest Elapsed Time is 7.20 and fastest miles per hour is 185. I think the 185 still stands as an NHRA record.

So how did Janette end up running a bike shop in 2024? A big dealership style bike shop?

“Well Buddy had brought up a couple times about wanting a dealership. Owning a Harley dealership was not a desire of mine since I knew so much about that. I had a weak moment last year when he had been talking with another guy about opening an independent dealership,” she said.

This area was lacking in the big independent shops. So, they went looking for a 3,000 square foot building. What they

have created is impressive. Westside Twins has easy interstate access. The property is five acres with a grassy field, storage units, warehouse space and a big showroom and shop building. There’s even a food truck on site.

“When I stepped on the property it was like something just kinda moved me. I get chills talking about it. I’m a believer and God puts people and things in our path, and this was one

of them. Quickly we bought this property and got to work,” she said

Westside Twins offers pre-owned motorcycles of all makes in their huge show room. From big engine Harley Baggers to Sportsters and some cool little Benelli import commuter bikes. The show room also features parts, accessories and apparel. They have some pre-owned clothing and gear. Sure, you can buy everything imaginable online and deal with those frustrations. But for quality clothing and gear it’s still the best to see and feel what you are buying. Get great gear at the best price. Get Janette’s advice on what works best for you.

“We have a full-service department. One of our technicians I’ve known since my service days working at Harley-Davidson. We met on the West Coast. Scott has 30 years of experience and training with Harley and Suzuki,” she said.

Janette is developing relationships with other companies to sell and install their accessories. I saw displays for Klock Werks, Fat Baggers (handlebars) and Legend Suspension.

“Rockford Fosgate is big. We’ve been installing a lot of their stereos. Custom Dynamics has a great product for easy plug and play installation. They stand behind their products. If you’re safety conscious and their lights help people see you. We can put Custom Dynamics LED lights on your older bike,” she said. “Last week we put a Rockford Fosgate stereo and Custom Dynamics lights on a 2003 Ultra and the owner was ecstatic about how it upgraded his bike.”

“Every motorcycle we put on our showroom floor has been through a multi-point inspection and serviced. For the safety and confidence of our customers we go through the bikes,” Janette said.

The sales staff at Westside Twins can get you on a bike and riding the mountains with a few different finance plans. They also have Extended Service plans to protect your two or three wheel investment. The shop is certified to perform warranty work for independent service plans.

The name Westside Twins is about more than just the motorcycles we love. It’s about Janette’s and Buddy’s family and the nine-year-old twin grandkids who you might see at the dealership. The dealership is a family friendly place.

Janette is a Motor Maid, Jeep fan and hot rodder so I expect to see events supporting those interest there in the future. Next summer they will be running with a variety of events. She described the seven person staff as past the crawling stage and starting to walk.

Coming up at Westside Twins in the next couple weeks is an August 10th Back to School event helping local students. I look forward to a full schedule of events in 2025. See y’all there.

Tiny’s Tales From The Road Run To The Hills

s we roll into august i’ve realized that i rely heavily on the weather for my articles about motorcycles. It’s too cold, hot, wet, etc. But soon we’ll have the Goldilocks weather we so love here in the South and hopefully it’s a long fall with many more months of beautiful comfortable riding. Right now though it’s damn near too hot, especially mid-day, to even think about straddling a 200 degree motor and get blasted by a wet wool blanket that is a heat index of 110. I must be getting soft in my old age. Run to the hills, boys. 4th of July we did just that, and we sweat even in the river, as the river was about 80 degrees and moving as slow as we all were.

I think you can damn near say we have 2 riding seasons and we take a break in the middle, maybe more of a half time, in July, at least in the Mid-Atlantic region of the East Coast. The cooler weather in the mountains is a half day full day (depending on your idea of a day) away so unless you’re blessed with a lot of time away from your work or family obligations you just have to sweat it out and get it in while you can. But there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel, and for me that light is Twin Rivers Chopper Camp Out in North Carolina.

I’ve been going to Twin Rivers for a number of years to enjoy cooler weather and camp out with 100 or so of my closest friends. To be honest I have no idea how many people show up on average, but everyone manages to squeeze in, somehow. No one ever seems to go hungry or thirsty, either, and did I mention there’s a river?

The best part of any weekender is always the ride there, and the ride to Twin Rivers is a really nice one. For us, it’s due west mostly, then drop south a bit, but from any direction it’s a great ride. The first time I rode it I went over the mountain pass at night and there was plenty of rain and fog to keep it interesting, I recommend going in the day. The scenery is beautiful and navigating the rocky road into the primitive camping area is not to be taken lightly, especially at night. Somehow I made it though.

Zak and his friends have scaled things back a bit, so if you’re going to be entertained you might need to provide your own entertainment, last year it was billed as a family re-union and it had a more laid bike vibe than previous years, meaning no raffles or shirts, plenty of shenanigans went down, of course. You can’t get that many people together and not expect things to get a little rowdy. The rules are few and peer enforced, so show up to have a good time. There’s always some of those folks that can’t seem to have a good time without bumming everyone else out, Twin Rivers is probably not the best spot for them.

There is almost always some loosely organized ride into town where you can fill up on gas, gas station snacks, and then

there’s a scenic ride and photo op for Panhead Jim, who has been providing the “official” coverage for the event for years that’s been featured in many publications. The ride typically ends at a local spot where people can relax, order food and ice cold beverages and socialize. At some point people will split off and go enjoy some local roads and some will head back to camp. If you don’t know the way follow the choppers, and you’ll end up somewhere.

Twin Rivers has always been billed as a chopper camp out but we’ve seen everything from full dress (vintage and modern) to scooters at the camp out. Vans, campers, etc as well as pit bikes and mini bikes. There are no “chopper police” gatekeeping at the event so if that’s what put you off in the past no need to worry. If you do have a chopper and want to ride it out and camp in the dirt though this is the place to do it. Hope to see y’all there!

Almost 25 Years... World Honda Chopper Meet

ne of my favorite spring events is the world Honda Chopper Meet at Riders’ Roost, Ferguson, NC. The weather was almost perfect for the 24th WHCM. For 21 years The Honda Chopper Heads have met at The Roost. This cool event goes back to the Smoke Out in Salisbury and folks needing a place to stay. It was hot Saturday, so I was lucky to get more than half the bikes to gather for a photo. Folks were ready to get back in the creek.

I’ve attended this gathering for years, riding my favorite old Honda. A lifetime of Harleys and now I really love my 1982 Honda CB 900C. The meet is mostly folks who ride older, single overhead cam CB 750s of the type made from 1969 to 1978. Later twin cam bikes and some newer Honda choppers, bobbers and customs were welcome.

The meet is an internet community getting together in the real world. Most of the folks attending are members of the internet forum at www.hondachopper.com so they are known by their online names. Folks came from all over for the World Honda Chopper Meet. Chuck and Mel are the hosts and come every year from New Jersey. Old Honda Choppers, from ratty to show winners, ride in or get hauled from all over the country to ride and party in the Carolina mountains.

Cool Bikers and the machines they BUILT and maintain were all around. From Zach’s Ratty Chopper that I think everyone loved to Jeff’s Goldie that has won every major bike show on the East Coast. He got some dust on the tires. That machine is a work of art.

Wish I had checked out Travis’ modern digger more and got a photo of him on it. Yeah, he’s sittin on it in the group. After events there’s always the “wish I had photographed” list. So many cool machines. Matt put some miles on that pretty blue bike. He turns Bikers’ and citizens’ heads when riding by.

Folks came from Florida and Georgia, up the East Coast to New Jersey and beyond. The Florida Boys had fun. That’s them with the chopper in the creek. Junkyard John came down from Michigan. He went home with lots of great things

Story and photoS by alan dockery

from both auctions. At the WHCM expect folks to share ideas, knowledge, methods and parts.

Thanks Rake and Mel and Chuck for supper. Friday was Loose Meat Sandwiches. Yankee Sloppy Joes. Splash a little Texas Pete and BBQ Sauce on that. Umm Pickles. Saturday was Italian. Big Balls and Pasta and Sausages. Tipping may be a city in China, you ain’t never going there, but you can put a few bucks in the supper jar.

After a great supper they held drawings, raffle and an auction of parts and things. You know one man’s junk is the part another needs for his next build. There was some good stuff in the raffles and auction too, plus some Harley parts. Old Chopper Heads don’t need a band and party. We can have fun buying old bike parts. How’s the Chrome?

The Saturday night auction is always fun. Who got the taillight? The afternoon Pop Up Auction of parts scattered on a picnic table had them sold and gone in minutes.

At The Roost you are close to great riding roads. Famous ones with names and T-shirts and the Florida Miata Club, 27 cars in front of you. Or you can ride awesome local roads. How bout that creek? Some folks spend most of the day swimmin’ or chillin’ on the sandbar.

Great seeing folks who stayed for the weekend and ones who rode in for a while Saturday. Craig rode a naked GoldWing and inspired me to keep mine. Gonna be strippin time once she runs and stops. Oh, and Jerry made it there. His grandson Grayson bought a bunch of stuff. Outbid me a couple times.

Next year we will celebrate 25 years of the Honda Chopper group. I expect we will have lots of bikes for folks who dig old choppers. Come check them out and join us for a fun weekend in the mountains.

Benefit Ride For The Late Mark McCurry

was looking for someplaCe to go on saturday June 29th, and looked at all the local Facebook pages - nothing was happening. Then I looked at the “Full Throttle” Cruisin’ Calendar, and found an event close to home. The Full Throttle Biker Church, at 911 US 74 Bus., Bostic, NC was holding a Benefit Ride for the late Mark McCurry. I knew a Mark McCurry, and was surprised to hear that he had died. I went to the obituary for Mark, and learned that it was a different Mark than the one I had known. I read about the Mark who passed, and learned that he was only 66 years old when he died. The more I read about him, the more I wish I had known him. He was known as “Pop-Pop” to his grandchildren. He enjoyed riding his Harley, playing with his dog, “Ziggy”, and petting “Barney” the shop cat. There were many pictures of him with his family. I’m sure that he will be missed.

At 9:30AM, I headed west on Rt 74, and veered to the right to get onto business 74. After passing through Ellenboro, I looked for the church on the right. Before I knew it, I was pulling into the parking lot in front of the church. The first person I saw was Mike, the church pastor. He was directing the parking so that there would not be any trouble leaving in a group.

I brought a stack of “Full Throttle” magazines into the church, and placed them on a table and gave my donation for Mark’s family. There were already a large group of people in the church.

I met, “Pop’s”, a member of the Armored Saints Motorcycle Ministry. We talked about a lot of things as we waited for the run to start. He and I go way back. He’s a Marine veteran, and we always harass each other like we were still in the service: “Navy vs. Marines”.

More and more people rode in. I knew most of them. “Little Roger”. I watched him grow up from a small child to the big man he is now. Some were members of other motorcycle

ministries, and others were from local clubs like the CCIB and Windjammers.

It was very pleasant catching up with people I haven’t seen in a while. I learned about other upcoming events like the “Bike Nite” at the Sonic Drive-In in Forest City every Tuesday at 6:30. I didn’t know that they started that again.

As it got close to 11:00AM, Mike called everybody in to the church for the pre-ride meeting and prayer. The ride was going to be on some of the beautiful back roads in the area. I was surprised to hear that it was one of my favorite rides: up Bostic-Sunshine Highway, and back down Rt 226. I’ve taken that route many times, and always enjoyed it. There are enough curves to keep it fun but not so many that it becomes tiresome.

At 11:00AM, everybody went out to their bikes. It became very noisy for a few minutes while they left. Then it was quiet again. They all will be back in time for a delicious lunch. It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning. A total of $3,430 was raised, which was presented to some of Mark’s family at the church at the end of the event.

Preparing For The Ride

e had a tragiC event at a benefit ride recently where a couple had to be airlifted to the local trauma center. Fortunately, they survived, and it appears they will recover though it will not be easy or without pain.

This event had all the preparations normally associated with a well-organized benefit ride. There were experienced riders organizing and planning the ride. Routes had been planned with care and local law enforcement were notified and provided escort.

Even with all the planning and safety measures in place the driver of a car merged into the line of bikes very early in the ride and caused this accident to occur farther back in the pack. From news reports it appears possible the car was not aware of the accident. Police are requesting any information concerning this event.

Proverbs 16:9 We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.

Since recovering from cancer in 2023 I have performed a significant number of funerals. Without exception the date and time of these deaths were known only to God. Fortunately, each person had planned and prepared for their final ride and destination.

They realized faith in God alone would not allow them

entry into God’s heaven. The bible is without ambiguity and extremely clear on this point. Only though a relationship with Jesus will be ever be welcomed into heaven.

James 2:19 You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

We must confess and repent of our sins and invite Jesus into our life as Lord & Savior. Jesus is our only way into heaven. It does not matter what others have said, only what God said in his owner’s manual to us, the Bible.

God loves you and has provided a full proof way for you to avoid being held accountable for your sins. The choice is very simple, accept the free gift of salvation where Jesus paid for your sins or reject him, and you pay the full price for your sins. As simple as it gets.

We love to ride and don’t like to think about it, but every time we throw our leg over the seat on our scoot, there is no guarantee we will return to our earthly home. Our ride can just as easily end with us at our eternal home.

Where we reside in eternity is totally our decision. We know the day is coming yet we don’t know when. We would never plan an extended trip without making some plans. Why not go ahead and plan for your final destination so you are ready no matter when the date of departure is?

Blessings, Floyd

ot summer days bring out hot bikes and good times. Down Home Harley-Davidson doubles down on the good times by throwing block party events and bringing a crowd out to the Burlington dealership. GM Dan Roland took the reins of Down Home Harley-Davidson over a year ago with the promise of bringing big events and celebrities to town and has delivered. Last year Down Home Harley-Davidson hosted events and rides with Moonshiners Tim Smith, Steve Tickle, Josh Owens and others. The inaugural Hot Rods and Bitchin’ Bikes event featured none other than Discovery channel’s Bitchin’ Rides host Dave Kindig. The Dealership is currently doing a promotional bike giveaway with local NASCAR legend Richard Petty and has hosted rides out to the Petty farm. These events all feature custom bikes, live music and good times! All that and Dan and his staff are the subject of an upcoming reality tv show “Boss Of Hogs” that will be airing at a later date. No doubt, Dan is trying to tip the scales on motorcycle events in the Carolinas so when he announced the 2nd Annual Hot Rod’s and Bitchin’ Bikes event it was no surprise that he went big and had OCC’s Paul Teutal Sr. coming to be the celebrity judge.

The event was scheduled for June 29 amidst a hot and dry spell we in the south like to call Summer. None the less it was a scorcher! The lot was full of bike show bikes and spectators and the street was lined with custom cars before noon. Inside the dealership was buzzing with people that came to see Sr. Dan and Sr. were upstairs filming for “Boss Of Hogs’ and you could see the camera operators panning the showroom. There was a line forming to meet the reality tv star when he was done filming. Sr. had post cards to sign and took pictures with all his fans that were waiting patiently to see the reality tv star.

Bike show registration was inside as well, which is a good thing on a hot day. The line up of show bikes outside the dealership was ridiculous. Baggers, cholos, choppers and trikes all

waited for Sr. to pick a winner. I’m glad I wasn’t judging that bike show for sure. Lacks Customs brought three tricked out Cholo’s that are all worthy of winning. There were a handful of fully customized baggers with full custom paint and dripping with custom parts. Whiskey Tango Choppers brought out his newest creation of a Buell powered, foot clutched custom made board tracker. That bike had everyone stopping and gawking, it’s 100% custom built and takes a minute to wrap your head around. It was really a great line of bikes…topped off by my Ford Racing Red 1951 Panhead Chopper, obviously my choice for first place!

Under the shelter at the top of the parking lot Southern Sounds was rocking the party. Folks were lined up with their camping chairs set up waiting for this band to start and they were not disappointed. Carolinas’ Biker Lawyers had their get up out there with some lovely CBL girls handing out swag. There were a couple local radio stations on the property and some food trucks. Kathy Parnell, who writes our feature article “From The Bitchpad” was out there with her Honeybun and turned me on to the Double Dog at the food truck. She knows my affinity for hotdogs and definitely pointed me in the right direction that day! Once you made it out to the street it was impossible not to check out the custom cars. Hot rods, jacked trucks, antiques and a ton of custom paint lined the street in front of the dealership.

Continues On Page 34

Sr. finished up signing autographs and he and Dan took a stroll outside looking over the custom bikes and hot rods before deliberating over who would take home the top honors. Again…not jealous of that job. The announcement was made inside, with the camera crews cameras rolling. The crowd gathered and waited to hear that Jody Adams’ 2022 custom

Road Glide was the winner. Jody’s bike had a Downhome built 166 HP engine, was covered In Suicide Choppers parts, custom paint and was running a jacked up stereo by Davis Customs. Jody held up the heavy weight championship belt that was the prize and took photos with his bike and Sr. The hot rod winner pealed out before we could get their photo, but I’m sure it was a killer ride.

The award ceremony ended the day at Down Home H-D but there are plenty of parties coming up, including a custom bike unveiling on August 17 by Joe and Amanda Martin of the TV show “Iron Resurrection”. Don’t miss out on that! In the meanwhile, you should stop in and see Dan and his staff at Down Home for all your Harley-Davidson needs. They are the home of the Warranty Protection For Life for all their motorcycles and a have a full line of parts, accessories and MotorClothes.

verybody has bike nights. bars, restaurants, gas stations…everybody. Pine Tree Tavern in Winston-Salem, NC goes above and beyond to make their bike night special. A couple times this year they have catered to the lady riders, and it has paid off. I mean…if you can gather the ladies, dudes are certainly gonna follow! This time Lori Shaver, owner of Pine Tree Tavern with her husband Art, themed the bike night a “Grease” Pink Ladies bike night.

The weather was perfect summer bike night stuff, and the parking lot was already filling up by the time I rolled in. The proper way into the Pine Tree is to pull in and go around the back of the building to park in either the back or the side parking lot. That way you are parked for easy exit, and you get to make a solid entrance lap. Muddy Creek Revival was on the outside stage about to start up and there was a crowd on the back deck ready to hear some tunes. The Carolinas’ Biker Lawyers girls were set up and looking good handing out swag. I went inside the bar first, before the real crowd showed up. First things first, I gotta find Joe Smith. Joe is usually sitting at a table with Art across from the bar. Joe is the man, and it’s obligatory that you go say hello and shake the man’s hand. Then I bellied up to the bar to order a drink and some grub. Pine Tree has a great kitchen to compliment the fantastic bartenders. There’s always a special and tonight it was $1 hot dogs, ohhh yeah! Two dogs all the way and a Dr. Pepper had me right and it was time to see what was going on.

There was a Pink Ladies contest that night that had some ladies dressed up from their favorite characters from Grease and during the band break the ladies strutted their stuff. Lemme tell ya, the girls were dolled up, in black leather jackets with teased hair and vintage sunglasses. It was a greaser’s heaven out there. The judges ruled that Lindsay Markley had the

best get up. She was Sandy all the way and even sang a bit of “You’re The One That I Want” after receiving her awards. Sara Smith came in a close second. Both ladies snagged some prize packs and the admiration of the crowd.

The band took back the stage, bikes were still rolling in and the party went on into the night. Now, I hate it for ya if you didn’t make it to the Pink Ladies bike night, but Pine Tree Tavern parties like this all the time. Every Wednesday is Bike Night, but there are specials, live music and cold drinks all through the week! Pine Tree is definitely worth the ride, make sure you get out their way and put your kick stand down.

From The Bitchpad - Hell’s Gate

Hell’s Gate is an abrupt narrowing of British Columbia’s Fraser River, located immediately downstream of Boston Bar in the southern Fraser Canyon. The towering rock walls of the Fraser River plunge toward each other forcing the waters through a passage only 115 feet wide.

y honeybun and i had the pleasure of living in Vancouver for 2 ½ years. In that time, we explored as many miles as we could on two wheels. Everything about the West Coast of Canada is breathtaking: the majestic Rocky Mountains, towering city skyscrapers, the deep blue of the Pacific Ocean right at your doorstep and the weather of a temperate rain forest. Add to that, Orcas and dolphins breaching the water along walkways and beaches, Bald Eagles soaring above, and fresh, clean air. Cruise ships, sail boats, yachts and float planes fill the harbor, which are lined with waterside patios to have a bite to eat and to watch the world go by (we did luv our time there, for sure). Oops, got a little sidetracked...

There is so much to see along this loop, that I recommend just “taking your time”. You could do this in two days, but why would you?

Here’s why you wouldn’t: there are so many jaw-dropping views, it’s crazy. I took a gazillion pictures, of course, so don’t forget your camera (I’ve got mine on a lanyard cuz I sure as heck don’t want to drop it!).

Here is our route:

Starting at Vancouver, follow #7 for about 100 miles, stopping at a lovely little town called Hope, for a bite to eat and a tank top-up. You may want to nip into Harrison Hot Springs along the way and have a look ‘round. It’s an amazing stop. Hell’s Gate is about another hour’s drive up #1, the Trans-Canada Highway. Did you know that Hell’s Gate has a water flow twice that of Niagara Falls, kinda unfathomable?! There is a suspension bridge (just the idea makes my knees weak) and a Gondola, which is more up-my-alley. Stay for a bit and have an ice cream (and go potty). Continue on #1 to Lytton for another hour, and then to Cache Creek for 56 miles. This is where we stay over. The town has a population of just under 1,000 people. It is definitely a rustic place, totally no frills. It’s exactly what we were looking for. The hotel has a nice flowing creek with a few picnic tables to enjoy a cold bevy after a long day on the bike. Just a note, British Columbia’s interior can get very toasty during the day, then frigid after dark. Layers!

Leave Cache Creek on highway 97 then take a left on 99 for the rest of the journey. Definitely top up the tank in Lillooet and explore, leave no stone unturned. Each small town has its own charm. Pemberton is next, then Whistler. Take my advice and stop for a night or two. This place will knock your socks off! It is a compact, chalet-style pedestrian village,

nestled at the base of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. Elevation is 2,198 feet with about 12,000 people (Wiki). More people, more things to do, with a vibrant nightlife. You will notice quite the multitude of different languages; it is a hub for travelers, summer and winter (North America’s largest ski resort). The town has so much to offer: mountain biking and ATV tours, gondola rides, another suspension bridge (no thank you), hiking trails, helicopter tours, river rafting and more.

After the day is done, have a pint at Dubh Linn Gate Irish Pub. #99 from Whistler to Vancouver is penned The Sea to Sky Highway, for obvious reasons; the Pacific Ocean is on one side and sheer cliffs of the Rocky Mountains on the other. Breathtaking! Stop at ALL the look offs. Seriously!

June to August is optimal for two-wheeled riding in these parts.

More stops to plan on your ride:

• Brandywine Falls Provincial Park (the 230 ft falls is a short walk from the road, just follow the signs)

• Shannon Falls Park (the 1,099 ft falls can be seen from the road, with picnic tables to relax and contemplate)

• Sea to Sky Gondola (views to die for, from 2,904 ft)

• The Chief (a great destination for climbers, which you would undoubtedly see any time of year, the sheer rock rises 2,303 ft)

My Man and I have done this loop many times, clockwise and counterclockwise. As we all know, we see it differently every . single . time !

“Ride the race of life at your own pace.”

Open House Party

aking ChanCes is a part of life. Some people take advantage of the chances they are given and others don’t. Rick and Shane Riffle took a chance at starting a company off of an idea. It worked out and a company that started in a 10x10 booth at the Easyriders Bike Show in 2017 is now a national brand that attends all the major rallies. The company headquarters is in Concord NC and recently they took a chance and planned an Open House event for Friday, July 12. Now it’s been a perfectly dry and hot summer so far without any real rain to speak of during June. So naturally the pendulum swung back and pop-up summer storms have been the result. It was time to take another chance. Shane and the crew at RickRak went all in on good weather and pressed on with their open house. It was the right choice.

July 12 did see some scattered showers and some of us found those showers on our way to the party, others didn’t. Everyone who showed up was treated to a first class Open House at the RickRak complex, but I would expect nothing less from a company that builds on quality parts and customer service. Whether it was going to be hot or wet, there was plenty of covered seating for the guests. They were serving up some delicious pulled pork bbq, sides, fixin’s and hotdogs too!

Shane went all out and had a Tap Truck on hand with ice cold beer and root beer flowing from the taps on the side of a sweet panel truck. It was awesome. The live entertainment that night was from Stereo Static, and they jammed hard for the crowd and even brought up guest musicians to rock with them!

During a band break Shane and Mike, the local Drag Specialties rep gave away some sweet raffle prizes including RickRak cooler bags and other parts and accessories. As the evening went on bikes rolled in and parked in the parking lot close to the building and others in cars parked on the side of the building, either way the crowd filled in and the party was a success. There were friends, family and customers all hanging out and enjoying the evening that concluded with fireworks.

Once the party ended it was back to work for the RickRak crew who only had a few days left to get loaded up and leave for Sturgis. I’m hoping that this becomes a yearly party for RickRak. In the meantime, if you are in need of any motorcycle necessities, make sure you check out RickRak. Not only do they have their own line of touring luggage and other accessories, but they carry a lot of the top aftermarket name brands. You can either check out their website RickRak.com, visit their shop at 4001 Windy Road, Concord, NC or catch up with them at the rallies.

Stunt Show Saturday At

Tobacco Road Harley-Davidson

may

but

Road Harley-Davidson the second Saturday is for stunts. The second Saturday in July turned out to be a hot southern summer day and luckily fell on the 13th of the month. I tell ya it was great day to ride but a hot day to hangout in the parking lot unless, of course there was something going on that was worth seeing, was all on Ryan Lanier of Carolina Freestyle and Christina (Crashtina) Billings.

The first of three stunt shows went off at 11:30 in consideration of sleeping off your Friday night shenanigans. A crowd gathered on either side of South Saunders St. in front of Tobacco Road Harley-Davidson and Ryan and Crashtina lit up the street. They took turns going up and down the streets riding wheelies, doing burnouts, stoppies and sliding their bikes sideways. The went on for a good 20 minutes and ending with Ryan absolutely shredding the tire on his street bike.

In between shows, a lot of folks hung out in the shade or dove into the dealership to hang out in the AC and check out the huge selection of new and pre-loved motorcycles, parts and MotorClothes. Our friends at the Law Tigers were set up on the lot as well, with Joah giving out LT swag and Attorney Tyler Stiles on hand to answer your legal questions. There was also a food truck on hand for those who worked up an appetite watching the stunt team do their thing.

The shows got more and more exciting with Ryan and Crashtina upping the stunt levels, standing on the back of the motorcycle, riding the bike sitting backwards, crushing drink cans, bigger burnouts and more. The final show of the day ended with Ryan doing a twelve o’clock wheelie and lighting a stripe of gasoline on the pavement by throwing sparks from dragging the rear end of his bike. Ya can’t beat this kind of free stunt show, they really killed it.

I hate it if you missed this, but there will be more. Tobacco Road has an event most weekends of the month with the second Saturday committed to stunt shows. Don’t miss out y’all, Ryan and Crashtina put on a hell of a show!

Smokin’ Harley-Davidson Bike Night

he first thursday of the month is bike night at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson and you can’t ask much more out of a bike night. The crew at Smokin’ have been refining their bike night for a few years and we have a good time each month. Beers, Bikes, Bands and the cash prize doesn’t hurt a thing!

When you roll up to Bike Night, the Carolinas’ Biker Lawyers Girls are there handing out swag. Make sure you hit up their booth and snag your 2024 calendar, koozies, pens and all kinds of cool stuff. If you have a sweet show bike or just want a great parking spot, you need to go see the Smokin’ HarleyDavidson Girls. Not only will they sign you up for the free bike show but they are serving up free beer. There is always a hand full of vendors lining the parking lot with shades, leathers, apparel and all kinds of other biker type stuff. This year Smokin’ added live music to the mix too! Hot dogs have always been on the bike night menu and this past month Slick Rick’s Hot Dogs was joined by JJ’s Cuban food truck to add a little variety. Don’t forget that it’s the beginning of the month so you can snag the latest Full Throttle Magazine at our booth.

Twenty plus bikes join in the show and there is usually some eye candy in the parking lot as well. The judges have their work cut out for them deciding who takes home the top three awards. There are no classes so vintage, antique, performance, custom and stock all make up the bike show and have a chance at taking home a prize. The July bike night saw Bobby’s performance bagger take home $100 cash from Smokin’ Harley-

Davidson. Paul’s chromed out Fat Boy took home 2nd place and a $50 Smokin’ H-D gift card from the Carolinas’ Biker Lawyers. Third place and a $25 gift card went to Puput with his limited edition ’81 shovelhead. It was a hell of a night. Make sure you shine up your ride and head out to Smokin’

Harley-Davidson on the first Thursday of the month. Whether you put your bike in the show or just come to hang out, you’re gonna have a good time. I mean: beers, bikes, babes and hot dogs! That’s a winner! See ya there.

Take The Long Way Home: A

Woman’s Journey With Harley-Davidson

Interview with Mari aka My Turn Moto™, Tobacco Road Harley-Davidson’s Saleswoman

Question: What drew you specifically to Harley Davidson motorcycles and what do you ride?

Mari: Harley Davidson represents a spirit of freedom and rebellion that resonates deeply with me. My loyalty to the brand is rooted in their commitment to their customers. If I ever experience an issue with my bike while riding, no matter what dealership I end up at, they always make travelers a priority. After moving from New Jersey to Raleigh, North Carolina, I found a home at my local dealership, Tobacco Road Harley Davidson. The Tobacco Road HD H.O.G. members became a family I needed when I knew nobody and was starting over. I just traded in my 2019 Road Glide Special with 82,000 miles for a 2024 Road Glide CVO ST.

Question: How did you transition from being a passionate rider to a Saleswoman at Tobacco Road HarleyDavidson?

Mari: My transition to becoming a Saleswoman at Tobacco Road Harley Davidson was pretty radical. After a 20+ year career in Corporate America, I was burned out and uninspired. One night I sat down with a pen and paper and wrote all the things I am passionate about. Motorcycles, riding, and encouraging others to ride long distances. I wanted to share my passion with others and help them experience the joy of riding a Harley. When I landed the opportunity to be a contractor Brand Ambassador with Harley Davidson and travel around the country, I met with Tobacco Road’s GM, Mark Hendrix, looking for an exciting new opportunity that would allow me to be both a Brand Ambassador and Sales Woman. Once I started working at the dealership, I quickly realized that this was my calling.

long-distance riding or a career in the motorcycle industry?

Question: Can you describe some of the most memorable trips you’ve taken on your Harley?

Mari: My most memorable trip was my first long distance solo trip from North Carolina to Sturgis, SD. So many people thought I was crazy or that I could never do it. Thankfully, I had a core group of friends and the team at Tobacco Road HD cheering me on. They even helped me get on my first brand new motorcycle, a 2019 Road Glide Special that I went on to put 82,000 miles on twisting around the country.

Question: What advice would you give to other women who are interested in taking up

Mari: My advice would be to start small and gradually take on longer rides. Invest in good gear, stay informed about bike maintenance, and one day just wake up and go. No plan, just you, the bike, and an overnight bag. See where the wind will take you. I encourage you to please support local Mom and Pop businesses wherever you end up! For a career in the motorcycle industry, make sure you have a leadership team ready to support you. If your leaders won’t help you learn, grow, and succeed, then go somewhere else.

Question: Are there any specific destinations or events on your riding bucket list?

Mari: After finally getting the courage to leave my abuser, I battled greatly with depression and suicide. I was in a very dark time in my life, one I never thought I would survive. I learned how much motorcycling helps with trauma. It’s a form of EMDR therapy and I am living testimony that my motorcycle has saved me more times than it could have ever hurt me. When I learned a fellow content creator, Amanda (That Cosmic Biker Chick on TikTok), started the Love Surrounds You Foundation after the suicide of her little sister, Kristen, God told me to help. The 4th Annual Ride Out Of

The Darkness is happening in Lakeland, FL on Sept 28, 2024. Last year, I started a travel train of motorcycles from NC to FL, stopping at dealerships along the way to encourage more riders to support the cause. This year, the travel train has over 60 bikers coming from over 37 states, including Washington, California, Texas and Maine, riding in to be a part of the main event in Lakeland, FL. Tobacco Road HD is hosting a preride party on Wednesday, Sept 25th from 3-7pm. If you have ever battled with mental health or lost a loved one to suicide, please I encourage you to join the rally and travel train. The links to Ride Out Of The Darkness event is here and the travel train details are here. All of this is on my social media bio’s as well.

aybird’s Custom CyCles most reCent build started life as a 2016 Harley-davidson ultra ClassiC. tHe bike Came witH simple instructions: make it loud and flashy with a bigger wheel. With that Jay Richardson and his boy Seth got to work tearing the stock bike down in December of 2023, preparing it to be unveiled at the OCC Roadhouse Bike Show in Clearwater, Florida during the spring of 2024.

The bike is running a raked HHI chrome front end, DNA 26” Storm Wheel with matching rotor and HHI 6 piston caliper. The bike also features a Trask chin spoiler, Thrashin’ floorboards and food controls with Bad Dad stretched tank covers, dash and seat. The rear end is done by Top Shop and is topped off by Insane Asylum saddlebag lids.

Jaybird put a cam in the engine and dyno tuned it in house after the fins were diamond cut by Diamond Heads out of Las Vegas. It’s running an Arlen Ness air cleaner, side dump 2 into 1 exhaust by Sharkroad and is dripping in chrome.

The bikes 6 speaker audio and Sound Stream radio is run by Euphoria amps in the custom made TourPak and was signed by OCC’s Paul Teutul Sr at the unveiling.

To finish this build off, Chad with Copperhead Graphics knocked out the paint job with minimal instruction.

The bike got finished two days prior to the OCC Roadhouse Bike Show and was unveiled to the customer in front of Paul Teutul Sr. the last time the customer saw the bike was when he dropped it off. There were no update photos, no hints, nothing. Jay said, “We had it all covered up, we walked them in and we pulled the cover off. His jaw hit the floor and his wife got goosebumps. They really loved it. Paul Sr. came over and took a liking to this bike, too. We actually got him to sit on it take some pictures with the customer and he signed the inside of the tourpak.” The bike brought home 2nd place out of an impressive invitational bike show.

Uncle Roy - Riders’ Roost’s Famous Comedian Host

hen north Carolina gets a biker hall of Fame, the first person I will nominate is Roy Yelverton. For years he was Uncle Roy to the thousands of Bikers who stayed at Riders’ Roost Motorcycle Resort in Ferguson, NC.

I recently sat down with Roy at The Wizard Saloon in Hickory and we talked about twenty years ago on Elk Creek. I think it was there where I found Roy’s orange flier. It was wordy but said what I needed – Biker Campground in the mountains and the address. In 1996 I had just retired from Uncle Sam’s Amazing Flying Circus and was back in Cackalackie. Ready to find the cool places to ride and hang out.

Found The Wizard and The Roost. Biker Campground that is just up the highway. I liked motorcycle camping. Wow amazing roads nearby. Escape the city and chill on the creek with people I can relate to. Shovelheads and Pans and Ironheads Oh My. Where do y’all race Harleys?

I met Roy bout the time The Roost was really getting known and the party weekends getting bigger. Quickly, I found the folks who live near me and we could hang together. Take the Bunkhouse and plan meals and rides for a Roost weekend. Meet folks from all over the country sitting around the campfire. Laugh to Roy’s jokes as the flames light up his big smile. He loves to make Bikers laugh.

I told y’all last month about how The Roost got started and riding with B.C. one of the founding brothers. Well, as we entered the new millennium, Roy was the face of the place. Remember, Opening Day was May 26, 1990 – his birthday. I have the Tenth Anniversary Summer shirts.

In 1993 the original group of brothers who created The Roost dissolved that group. Rumor went around the that they closed. To kick off 1994 Roy said he threw a party and grilled a bunch of chicken. Fifteen people showed up.

“I thought I had a good business idea, Biker Campground, because the Blue Ridge Parkway was close by,” Roy said. “Turkey Tom’s campground was getting some traffic. By 1995 I realized I wasn’t gonna make a living from the Parkway. Then I thought Charlotte and the surrounding areas are 90 miles away and that’s where the people live.”

“Butch was producing his little paper (The Independent Biker) in the Charlotte area. I sent him a story about Spring Fling and included twenty dollars so he’d print it. That started bringing people to The Roost.”

“1997 was the first year we made a profit. The Roost paid for all its bills. Then I started writing short stories about Shovelhead Red and Butch printed those. That caused folks to ask, ‘Who is this guy?’ and where’s The Roost and the crowds came up the mountain,” Roy said.

Eventually, those Shovelhead Red stories became a book series. Roy published three books that tell the story of a Biker’s life from betrayal to a trippy ending.

By 1998/99 Bikers across the Carolinas knew Riders’ Roost was a cool place to stay. It was close by. They could enjoy the creek or ride the mountain roads.

“The Roost became popular with Harley Owners Group Chapters. They would come up and obviously get blown away by how cool the place is. Then tell their friends we are only an hour from where they meet to ride. HOG Group after HOG Group started to come,” Roy said.

Crackin’ Up On The Creek

Back then there were only three big party weekends that Roy hosted and groups did their own thing some weekends. Roy is a comedian and cracks up folks with his stories and jokes about Bikers.

In 1998 Roy started Friday Night Comedy Shows. About dark, folks would gather for some Open Mike time. We would get up and tell stories about our recent rides and stories about each other. Oh My God, I still tell around the campfire about Scott standing up and bike surfing all the way down 268.

Folks told jokes and we sang dirty silly GI or Biker songs. Once nobody said, “Give me the mike,” it was time for the Uncle Roy Show. He would tell some jokes. Some that we had heard a time or two before. I’ve been sharing some videos from the last time I saw him crackin’ up a crowd.

I think Roy is known for three songs. But the first that folks will start to sing and smile to is Whale Shit. I don’t know how many verses he has for that song or how many we could make up for how long …. “But when you set fire to my Harley … you’re lower than Whale Shit. And that’s at the bottom of the

ocean.”

Oh and I wish I had video of Roy singing with the bands. The second set often started with him singing Born to Be Wild and Johnny B Good. And all of us singin’ along.

“I did my two songs with the band and the next thing I know I see lots of lighters across the parking lot. It was so crazy. Looked like a concert. I can’t sing, but they were loving it,” he said.

So many of y’all know and love Uncle Roy and The Roost during those years when he was part of the whole experience. Folks have many reasons for staying at Riders’ Roost now. The creek, its peaceful sound. Awesome roads that ain’t on t-shirts. And hanging around the campfire with friends. Roy and the lovely Mary Lou were one of the reasons we entered the 2000’s smiling at the Roost.

“I’ll never forget this Yankee from Maine. His name was Art. He stayed a few days, through the party and into the next week. We were sitting on the bench and he said – you know this is a great place but you are the product. Not to be boastful, but I turned into part of the product that was The Roost,” Roy said.

As the camping clientele changed, they decided to put in some more small cabins. The first five overlooking the waterfall and swimming hole were built in 1992/93. By 1998 they built several more downstream closer to what I call the Rock Garden. Not a good place to float through. Creek sound is perfect.

“The clientele was changing a little and more people coming. They wanted to bring their wives and relax for the weekend. Not tent camp,” he said. The cabins and bunkhouse are basic but work for the weekend.

“Mary Lou’s first season was 1998. She is such a personable woman that before you know she was as popular as I was. Her contribution to The Roost’s success then was significant. I’m happy and lucky to say that Mary Lou was the perfect compliment to The Roost at that time,” Roy said.

I used to make up bags of things to make campfires turn colors and sparkle. Mary Lou loved to take the bags and go visit campfires. Soon she would have the whole place ahhhing.

The early 2000’s were good years for Roy and the The Roost. But it was tough to manage.

“From 1998 until I left it was always fun,” he said. “There was one issue, especially early on. It was too much work for one person and not enough profit to pay for help. I had to do everything myself and that started to grind me down. But when you sit there looking at the rapids…. People come in who have never been there and you show them a good time….

Number one the beauty of the place hits you like a smack in the face. The atmosphere is cool and I like to be the host that made people happy. They wanted to come back and that made me happy. Because I’m a comedian first and foremost. If I can make someone laugh and enjoy themselves that satisfies me.”

We talked about how Roosters back then were friends even away from the creek. Went to each others parties. Hung out together at other events. And working on motorcycles in the garage there. I won’t diss Shovels and Pans and Old Hondas because I still have that old Black Bitch Dresser and just bought another old Honda.

“I went to motorcycle mechanic school when the concept of The Roost was first born. Which is 1987. In a pickup truck headed to Wilmington. Me and Richard. We had heard about Turkey Tom’s,” Roy said.

“I had just built a beautiful home in Pensacola Florida. A house much nicer than I ever thought I’d own. But I had the concept in my head of a motorcycle campground. I rode the Blue Ridge Parkway from the South End to Wilkes County during picture perfect leaf season. I decided I had to live where I can access this road.”

“I saw the bikes flooding down the Parkway and thought there’s no way I can lose with a campground nearby. But I learned the Parkway won’t pay your bills.”

“Every weekend was a story. Our parties were what people really got into and had them coming back, time after time. They told friends and the group continued to grow. Sunday mornings was like pulling teeth to get people to get on their motorcycle and ride home,” Roy smiled as we stood out side The Wizard and said our byes.

Some Sundays it can still take us a while to say bye to folks and ride back down the mountain. Can I get to KFC in T’ville before the after-church crowd or do I wait another hour? See y’all at The Luau.

Find Peace

anonymouS

ouple weeks ago i went on a little ride with my friends from JR’s Corner Bar. Our first stop was a bar out in the country on the other side of Stokesdale. Before we got there on the way, I noticed a church that I had been to before many years ago. This is the church that has the cemetery where my brother is buried and I had him on my mind. We lined our bikes up out front and went inside the bar. Then it hit me, this is the bar that my brother owned at one time. One night my brother was riding his bike home on a country road and a car hit him head on. I asked the bartenders and some locals if they knew who my brother was. No one knew him. I looked on the walls to see if there were any pictures of him but there were none, and this all disturbed me. I felt sad and angry. Then all at once a feeling came over me as though my hearing had increased and all of my senses had gotten stronger. My feelings became more sensitive. A voice came in my head, at first it startled me, because it sounded like my brother’s voice. And I didn’t have any drinks today. The voice in my head spoke, “Find peace.” I believe it was meant for my brother’s son, and anybody out there who has a son or father, or anyone who has been gunned down or murdered over the past years from biker wars. Now bikers know, or at least some of you know, when you work on your motorcycles or other people’s bikes you put your whole heart into it, or when you ride your bike you put your whole heart into it, and most rocker holders that flies their colors do just that. The love is so great and the brotherhood is so powerful. Most of you will die for your brother and for decades that’s exactly what has happened. I’m sure some of you thought, what it might have been like if your brother, or son, or father could have lived, how wonderful and complete

their lives could have been. Ever since the first blood has been spilled, there’s been an ongoing curse. Losing a loved one like that can bring on anger that’s so bad. It’s hard to explain the hurt. If you have not experienced it yourself you may not understand. Older broth- ers that had managed to survive through the Wheels Of Time this long, will understand. I know some of you cannot forgive, and that’s understandable, but at least think about the next generations to come - for all the further bikers, our grandsons, and their sons, and what their lives could be like, by having a life. From a biker with a strong heart, I’m talking about horse-power-strong and mad-dog strong, that’s 100% of your heart speaking. You are the ones that truly know what I mean. You are the ones that hold the future. It does not matter what name is in the rocker on your back if it’s not truly in your heart. Your heart flies your true colors. I pray we can have peace.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

Within a blink of an eye a double edge sword can have a point of no return.

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! At our house we call it “pickin” and it is symbolic of your acceptance in the group. We live in the United States Of The Offended, so get over it!!

I was in my mid-forties at the time. I was making my way into the fitting room of a local Macy’s. There were two young boys waiting for their dad to finish trying something on. They spoke Spanish to each other—Spanish is my native language. As I approached the door, realizing they were in the way, one told the other, “deja que pase el abuelito.” In other words, “let grandpa through” in the most affectionate way. That day I came face to face with my mortality.

My dad and mom were waiting for the elevator in the hotel lobby. They could see a man in the elevator as they approached. Upon entering the elevator, the man, old blue eyes himself, Frank Sinatra, looked at my dad, and sounding exasperated and raising his voice said, “Do you know who I am!?” He was obviously very angry. My parents thought Sinatra just wanted privacy. And, it might have been a private elevator. Who knows. My dad replied, “I don’t, but do you know who I am? My dad was obviously teasing Sinatra. Dad said Sinatra chuckled. No other words were exchanged. When my parents got off the elevator, Sinatra said, “Have a lovely evening.” And that was that. My dad loved Sinatra as a singer and said that Sinatra was just being Sinatra. My mom found him to be quite rude. She was quite shocked by his behavior. I loved my dad’s response to Sinatra. I don’t think Sinatra expected that, and thought it was pretty clever. That’s probably what preventing Sinatra from going into full-tilt shouting mode, because he was well known to have an explosive temper. There’s more to life

than fame and fortune. If you act like an ass, you’ll be treated like one. I think old Franky got what he deserved that night.

My grandma reached 100 yesterday. That is the last time I ride with her when she is late for Bingo.

An old French lady had a small shop in her village for years until one day a huge corporate supermarket set up across the road from her little shop. They put up signs advertising their prices, including one that said: Butter – 10 francs. In response, the old lady added a sign to her own window: Butter – 9 francs. The next day, the big supermarket had a new sign: Butter – 8 francs. Sure enough, the day after the lady’s sign now read: Butter – 7 francs. This went on for a while until eventually one of the lady’s customers pointed to the sign and said, “Madame, you cannot keep your prices so low for long. These big companies can use their buying power to sell products cheaper, but a little store like yours can never compete.” In response, the old lady bent forward conspiratorially and muttered, “Monsieur, I don’t even sell butter.”

A man knows he’s getting old when he forgets to zip up. But senile when he forgets to zip down!

Where I live having an openly carried sidearm is legal. I ordered my food and got my soda. The manager asked me “are you a cop?” I’m in wranglers, shirt, boots, and hat so I get the question but at the time I explained “no”. He said nothing else just went in the back and sent out a woman to ask to see my carry permit, (which is legal here for a business owner or employee to ask). I showed it to her, she explains he’s some corporate manager, from Chicago and has never seen a Texan or an openly carried sidearm before. She went in the back and told him “he’s good, he has the permit to do this.” This scared liberal calls the cops and goes outside to express his pronouns. Cop didn’t even come bother me just explained “you’re not in Chicago anymore, that you’re in Texas.”

I’m pretty sure I had a good time last night....Let me finish reading the police report and I’ll let you know.

It was back in a time when home computers were still fairly new, when his dad came to him saying their computer wasn’t working. The son, who was about 15, checked the machine and his dad was right. It wouldn’t work at all. So, he asked his father what happened just before the computer went on the fritz. His dad explained that he saw that the hard drive was almost full, so he decided to delete a useless file. My friend asked him if he remembered the name of that file. His father said that it was one he’d never used. It was called DOS. After a quick facepalm, my friend quietly explained that DOS stood for Disk Operating System and that a computer couldn’t work without it. He then patiently reinstalled the program and made his father promise never to delete that file again. Things went well for a while until his father came to him a second time, saying the computer wasn’t working. My friend asked his dad if he’d deleted DOS again and his father swore he hadn’t. He said he’d found a different useless file to delete. My friend, with some trepidation, asked what the name of this different file was. His dad said, “Windows.”

A man walks into a bar and says loudly, “Bartender, six shots!” The bartender looks at him and says, “Wow six shots, what’s the occasion?” The man replies, “First bl*wjob!” The bartender then pours him a seventh shot and says, “Congrats man, this one’s on me.” The man then says, “Man if six shots can’t get the taste out of my mouth, I don’t know what will!”

How to frighten the new generation, put them in a room with a rotary phone, an analog watch, and a TV with no remote. Then leave directions on how to use in cursive.
