First, Check out the cover – this month is Springers turn. Springers is the destination bar in Greensboro and surely warrants a ride over and a look see if you’ve never been. Bar owner Jeff Schmid describes it as “Recess With Alcohol” and is always cooking up great events and grub! Jeff is a biker, so he knows what we are looking for in a bar. Check out the “Cover Story” on page five for more info, then ride on over there and some suds
Second, this is the month of the 20th Anniversary of the Outer Banks Bike Week! It’s the party of the year, April 16-24 and it’s at two locations. The main party at the Outer Banks Harley-Davidson at 8739 Caratoke Hwy in Harbinger North Carolina and a second location at Bayside Harley-Davidson 2211 Frederick Blvd. Portsmouth, Virginia. Both are having one hell of a party so check out the complete listing of events on the back cover, and don’t forget to stop in at the Full Throttle Bike Show on Saturday, April 23rd!! And third, have you seen the Cruisin’ Calendar? You can surely see the springtime there. It’s chock full of stuff to go to. From bike blessings, to drag racing, to poker runs and bike rallies, it all seems to be happening here in the Carolinas. We call April the Mountains to the Sea month since we will be ridin’ back and forth to beach rallies and mountain rallies all month long. The Calendar starts on page 4 and contains events all the way through September! If you wanna get your ride or event in there, give us a shout! Wanna live Full Throttle? Wouldn’t you like to ride for a living? Come be a part of our sales team, except for delivery, you can ride all the time and call on clients and sell advertising. It’s not hard, all you have to do is like talking to folks and like riding and you can do it. Give us a call we’ll show you the ropes. See ya out there!

DESTINATION:
April 2020, panic was in full swing and COVID was causing bar owners and restaurants to close down. Jeff Schmid on the other hand was determined to open the doors to his new bar, Springers, at 405 Rocky Knoll Rd , Greensboro NC. Jeff knew what he wanted to achieve, the purple theme color and spring logo is in honor of his brother Christopher Schmid, who has passed. Springers, with the help from a great staff and customers, who are more like family, do a lot of charity and benefits in honor of Jeff’s other brother, 36 years retired Lt. Col James Schmid. Jeff’s parents James and Marlene Schmid along The American Military Family also influence his giving spirit and as part of Triad Honor Flight, American Legion Post 853, The Elks Lodge 602, Toys for Tots, and people in need in the community Last year Springers raised over $100,000 for charities, and benefits. Jeff always gives a lot of credit to his staff. Heather Moran “Bar Manager”, Rosalind “Ros”, Page Schmid, Sonja Henley, Neil Coldron, Ralph Childress, George Fern, and Timmy Childress, and of course JC Thompson who catches memories with his camera. To reward his staff and bar family Jeff has been known to pull out the smoker at least once a month to cook pork shoulders or chicken. At Springers, there is always a birthday celebration or maybe even a baby shower. Last year Jeff even officiated Lloyd and I’s wedding. You never know what great things are happening. The big question is have YOU been to Springers? Have you stopped by and had a cold beer? They are open 7 days a week and there is always something going on. Monday is free pool on one of 7 tables with plenty of shooting space. Tuesday is Bike Night and open mic. Wednesday is karaoke and a pool tournament with $5 buy in. Thursday is corn hole or shuffleboard on a 30ft long restored 100 yr old board. Friday and Saturday the bar hosts live bands, and Sunday n
there is a group ride that ends back at Springers for entertainment. There is a U-shaped bar stocked with your favorite beverages and plenty of seating. Bar tables give you a great view of stage and a dance floor with room for about 50 people. Out front there is a porch with chairs and tables making it a perfect place to be when you hear the roar of bikes coming in. If you head down to Myrtle Beach Bike Rally remember stop by The Pilot House in Little River on Friday night May 20th between 4-6pm. If you come in wearing a Springers hat or shirt Jeff will pay your tab. If you see him elsewhere at the rally and your wearing Springers gear, Jeff will buy you a beer. When you are at Springers you are family. If you haven’t been, stop in and have a great time. I promise you will enjoy yourself. Keep your eyes open for upcoming events in The Carolina’s Full Throttle. Springers Bar 405 Rocky Knoll Rd , Greensboro NC Mon-Thur 2-12, Fri and Sat.12-2, Sun 12-12.

Freedom Biker Church Chili Cook-Off At Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson
By:Chi
Bragg Harley-Davidson hosted Freedom Biker Church Chili Cook-off on Saturday, March 5th. There was a lot of yummy chili to be tasted. This annual event always brings a hungry crowd. A number of trophies are given but no one’s a loser when the chilies this good! This annual chili cook-off event presented three trophies. The First place trophy was presented to Sweet Southern Heat, second place trophy went to Team Perry and the third place trophy to Broken Chains. Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson thanked everyone for supporting the event. They commended Freedom Biker Church for another wonderful Chili Cook-off. And gave a digital nod to the winners It was a great day for an awesome cause and good weather for these outside events. I know everyone has missed the cookouts and the sunny riding weather. I’m excited to welcome sunshine and warmer temperatures. Remember, Spring has sprung, and the grilling has begun, at Fort Bragg HarleyDavidson. I’ll look forward to seeing you at the upcoming events! Bikes, Trikes & Coffee At Indian Motorcycles Greensboro Triad
By: Lloyd Luquer s some may already
know, Indian Motorcycle of Greensboro Triad has relocated to North Main St. in High Point. On Saturday the 5th of March Indian Motorcycles Greensboro Triad hosted a coffee & donut breakfast as a sort of customer appreciation day and as luck would have it the weather was GREAT!! I arrived early to be able to get some photos of the friendly staff, since it’s often difficult to get them all together at one time. But, even though I was early, there were about 10 bikes already there and enjoying their morning coffee. Talking with these Indian Motorcycle riders, I found that they had come in from all around the Carolinas one even came in from Alabama. That gentleman test rode a Indian Roadmaster and purchased it upon his return demo ride. It was a very nice day and many more riders arrived to look at the other bikes and like us bikers do, admire how people make their bikes their own. They were at the right place to do just that and to look at
some new bikes in the Indian line up as well as a great selection of parts and accessories. So overall it was not only a great day to be out riding but also for stopping in for some fun comradery. If you missed out on this event, coming up on April 8th & 9th Indian Motorcycle Greensboro Triad will be officially celebrating their Grand Reopening with the Indian Motorcycle demo truck on site, a swap your swag ( trade your old T-shirt in for a new one). The Wizard’s Great Gatsby Speakeasy Night Story By: Angel Dyson Photos By: Mike Dyson
ikers can cleanup and dress up nice.
Recently, The Wizard Saloon in Hickory, NC, had a Great Gatsby night and made the bar into a speakeasy. So, this all started out over beers about a fun idea to raise money for the Conover School Toy Run. We decided to do a Prom. Four ideas came from Michael Miller, Adam Starnes, Michele Mitchell and Angel Dyson. We wrote them down and took a vote for a week at the bar. At the end of the week, we tallied the votes and had the winner. The theme would be -- The Great Gatsby. The ladies took the theme and ran with that idea! We had a meeting with Dorinda Orders, Becky Dyson, Michele Mitchell, Tina Light, Irene Kiser and Angel Dyson to decided what to do and we went to work. We got together, we all pitched
in to help and took part in decorating to make our favorite bar a good old fashion Speakeasy. I have to say we did a great job! It was one for the history books. We took our local watering hole a step back in time with a breathtaking look. We pulled it off and had so much fun doing it. All our hearts were in it, we love doing different ideas to raise money for our Toy Run. Then the day was here we all dressed up in our 1920’s outfits. We had such a great time dancing to the 1920’s music. We had a great crowd of people and everyone enjoyed the night. Everyone has been talking about how much fun they had. We will be doing another event like this again. I want to thank everyone who supported us in this. It means a lot to me. I look forward to the next one.

Benefit Ride For Chris Sachs
The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine

By Lincoln Infield
here’s this great biker bar just off
Chris & Felecia Sachs
Hwy 220 in Rockingham, NC. It’s got long time biker history that was renewed when Chris and Felicia Sachs took over the joint a few years back. Since then, The Hide-A-Way Tavern has been host to constant biker happenings (including our Fear Of February Party) and a slew of charity events. Yeah, if there was a charity bike ride in Richmond County, you can count on Chris, Felicia and the The Hide-A-Way Tavern having a hand in event. Not only that but as many local neighborhood biker bars, they had created a family atmosphere for their patrons with a real “shirt off their own back” type of feeling for those who come by the bar. So, when Chris was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer, it was a no brainer that his community gathered together and planned a benefit. To be specific Jamie Watson, Donnie Butler, and Mark Cockerton spearheaded the operation, but the community was there to back them. The event had a rough start. Chris turned down the idea
Jerry & Belinda With Their Cooking Team
that there would be a benefit put on for him. Chris is a good guy and selfless as usual only accepted the event as a show of support that would benefit one of his favorite charities, The Special Olympics of Richmond County. But as treatments started and costs mounted, the ride committee was able to talk him into accepting the help that we all wanted to give him. I mean, that’s what everyone wanted to do. We all wanted to get together to help our brother in his time of need. The event was originally planned for late January and fell on one of the three in a row snow weekends and had to be postponed. The event was rescheduled for February 20 and this time Mother Nature cooperated. It was a beautiful day to ride and bikes were rolling in by the dozen, I was happy to see Chris was able to attend and was greeting his friends when I rolled in. The bar was teaming and their was music rolling in the huge back yard of The Hide-A-Way Tavern. Jamie was out back and gathered all the riders together for a little pre-ride chat and a prayer before we hit the road. The sheriff’s department was going to lead the ride up 220 before we cut off to the back roads to head over to Cox’s Double Eagle Harley-Davidson. Once the “head em out” signal was given, Chris and Felicia lead the pack of riders out of the parking lot and down the road. It was a huge line of bikes in a proud declaration of true brotherhood. Ya know, this is what benefit rides are really about, helping out our biker

brothers and sisters when they are in need. The sheriff got us up 220 to NC 73 from there it was up to the riders. We carved up those county highways and riders pitched in at each turn to block intersection and keep the ride rolling. At Double Eagle, the ride invaded the riders course training area and we went in to have a look see. The HideA-Way and Double Eagle work together on a ton of events and have more than a business relationship. Free raffle tickets were handed out and a few riders walked off with some sweet H-D swag. The ride then doubled back and headed back to The Hide-A-Way Tavern to party for a bit. At the Tavern the back yard party was still going strong and a ton of folks had joined in. There was huge bon fire going, tunes playing, beers flowing and man, the air smelled of delicious food. Jerry and Belinda Gardneer provided the food for the event and teamed up with, Jon Austin, Mark Porter, Woody and Perkins to cook up a slew of Boston butts on the grill. They had been at it for hours and it was mouthwatering. In true Hide-A-Way Tavern event fashion, there was more food than an army could eat. Everything from bbq to spaghetti to pintos and corn bread. There were a ton of sides too, it was incredible. Jamie took the mic and started up a live auction for the two tons of auction items that had been gathered and called for everyone to, “Give from the heart, not from the wallet”. A 50/50 raffle was going on and a couple chums got in to matching $100 donations and the pot growing. Mark Cockerton of
Family Cycles in Hamlet always finds a way to give big and came through this time by raffling off a 100 $25 tickets for a cherry 2006 Honda Rebel 450 that was ridden in that day by his daughter-in-law, Jackeline. It was a killer deal and someone was gonna be able to ride off that afternoon for a $25 donation. Much to my dismay, Jon Austin was the winner of the Rebel. Jon wasn’t there, but his son Andy was on hand to accept the prize. The auction and the 50/50 went on til the buckets were full and the buffet table was empty. It was one hell of a day and a huge show of love for Chis. The final tally, I hear, was in the neighborhood of $10,000 raised that day. But as we all know, when you are facing cancer treatments that’s a drop in the bucket. I’m sure though it was a huge relief for Chris and Felicia for the monetary help and the outpouring of love and support for them during this difficult time. Everyone who attended, bought tickets or just came by to share a hand shake or hug with Chris, and to those who worked hard to put the event on….Yall Rock! Keep up the good fight, Chris. I look forward to riding with you and the Hide-A-Way community again soon.

CMA Annual Day Of Prayer By Wally Wersching n Sunday, March 6th, I rode “Miss Vickie” south to the city of Gaffney in South Carolina. It was a beautiful afternoon with a brisk breeze, and sunny skies. I stopped at the Cherokee County Veterans Park. I was the only one there. I walked around to enjoy the moment; it is such a beautiful place. The Veteran’s Park is a sacred place where veterans are honored for their service. The park was dedicated in November of 2010, and has monoliths with names of veterans. There is a very moving bronze statue called the “Fallen Soldier Battle Cross” on one end, and a stone statue of an eagle on the other end with a quotation from Theodore Roosevelt. Too many people had to die for us to enjoy our freedom, and this park remembers some of them. I really enjoy visiting the park but this time, I had another reason for being there. The local chapter of the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA) – “The Warriors for Christ” was having their annual “Day of Prayer” at 2:00PM at the park. The CMA is an international Christian, interdenominational, non-profit organization established in 1975 dedicated to reaching people for Christ on the highways. Every year on the first Sunday in
March, they hold a world-wide “Day of Prayer” where members take time to gather and pray. Groups of Christian bikers get together to pray for everything they deem needing help. Other bikers started arriving at about 1:30PM. Most were CMA members but there were bikers from other biker ministries along with bikers like me who don’t belong to any group. Carolyn and Roger drove up. I’ve known Carolyn since she was one of my students when I was a RiderCoach – a few lifetimes ago. She told me that she just got a new job at the Veterans Administration (VA) nursing home in the area. She’s been trying to get in there for some time and was very excited about her new job. More and more bikers rode in, and drove in. An interesting one is “Squid”. We got together years ago because we were both in the Navy. We compare old “War Stories” whenever we see each other. After they parked, they were getting acquainted, shaking hands and hugging each other. I shared some “Full Throttle” magazines with them. Some I hadn’t seen for over a year. Then at about 2:00PM, “Crawdad” (the president of the chapter) invited us to get in a circle on the Veterans Monument to pray. Everybody held hands, and each person in turn said a prayer for something special to them. Many just thanked God for what they had, and a beautiful day to enjoy it. Their goal is to spread the word and increase the group size every year. This year’s was much larger than last year’s. Next year, mark your calendars for the first Sunday in March. We’ll meet again at the veteran’s park about 2:00PM. See you there! Go to: http://www.cmausa.org/ for more info about the CMA. Go to: cmaser6.org/SC/Warriorsforchrist for info about the chapter.

Living The Lifestyle - Kenny Gilley Clemmons Motorcycles Gilley has been part of the motorcycle community since birth, and started working on motorcycles before his teenage years. What he found out early on was that he had a talent for fixing bikes and making them fast. We can all get behind that. Lucky for us his shop, Clemmons Motorcycles, is located in WinstonSalem, NC, right in the heart of the state. The shop is run by Kenny and his wife Mary Ann with the help of 3 mechanics turning wrenches with Kenny’s expert guidance. To say that Clemmons Motorcycles is a staple in the motorcycle community is an understatement, having been in business under that name for nearly two decades. But as mentioned earlier, Kenny’s story starts way before that and recently I got a chance to sit down with him and lay out a few questions, here’s what we found out. “Everybody learns how to ride in my family because my grandfather owned a motorcycle shop from day one, from when I was born” Kenny explained while mentioning that his first motorcycle memories were riding a 50cc Honda around the age of 3. Kenny even started working on motorcycles at a very young age. “Everyone in the neighborhood had motorcycles and if they weren’t running, just because my family was enny
Or Scan This QR Code With Your Smart Phone motorcycle oriented, they would bring them over to our house, and I found out real quick, that I had a knack for fixing them. I don’t know if it’s a curse or a blessing, but we’ve been doing it ever since.” He explained. His love for Harley-Davidsons came a little later while working in his Grandfathers shop. Kenny had replaced a tire on a customer’s 1977 Harley-Davidson Low Rider. The customer, Zack Reynolds, insisted that he test ride the bike despite of Kenny’s age. “So I got to experience a 1977 Low Rider on public streets in Clemmons [NC] for the first time, and that’s where my love came from.” Racing motorcycles was a natural progression after finding his passion for motorcycles. First with cross country and
enduro then on to drag racing once he was bitten by the Harley bug. When he was just 15 he bought a wrecked Harley and went to building it back from the frame up. “I tore the motor down and was like, boy this is neat, but its all stock. I’ve always wondered what performance would be like on anything street wise and that Harley was laying there in pieces so I thought, let’s put some good stuff in it.” He remembered. The bike was outperforming his friends bikes on the street so he decided to give the drag strip a go. Kenny added, “The next

thing I know, I’m drag racing Harley’s”. Kenny did well at the strip and when the Evolution motor came out he built himself another dragbike and went on to set a couple national records and won a ton of races in the HDRA. “It just went on from there, knowing that performance Harleys was a love of mine” Kenny concluded. When Kenny wasn’t on the track he was working at various motorcycle shops in the area. In 1996, Having been at it for few decades, he decided that it was time for him to retire from the motorcycle mechanic gig. First things first, he decided that he would go to Daytona Beach Bike Week for the whole week, to celebrate his retirement. Kenny spent eleven days When It Comes To Your Bike, Insurance Coverage Is Personal. It’s the difference between a phone call to an answering system when you need to make a claim and a one-to-one conversation with someone who cares about your bike as much as you do. At Encore Insurance Advisors, we can help you find the coverage you need, from insurance on your accessories to roadside assistance, and our service is always personal, friendly and knowledgeable. in retirement at the bike rally before returning to find a dozen bikes waiting in his driveway at home, in need of repair. “So my retirement didn’t go very well” Kenny said with a chuckle. He knew that he was “Back in it again” and decided to open a shop and make it happen. He finally settled in on the main drag of Clemmons, NC and named his shop, Clemmons Motorcycles in 2007. “It took off well for us and I love it. Retiring I probably would have gotten board and gotten back into it anyway.” It’s a good thing too. Kenny and his crew have a constant shuffle of motorcycles coming in for service and leaving road ready. Kenny says people choose Clemmons Motorcycles for their service work because, “We have a reputation for having a lot of experience in fixing motorcycles the right way, with fair prices”. Cool thing is, Clemmons doesn’t just specialize in the newest model motorcycles, you can bring in your vintage motorcycles and have them serviced as well. Motorcycle knowledge doesn’t just stop at the service bay doors, Kenny’s better half, Mary Ann is a skilled motorcycle rider, a riding academy teacher and puts on more miles per year than most people I know. “She is a true asset, she has no idea how important she is to the shop”, Kenny added and I couldn’t agree more. Kenny went on to say “People come in here looking forward to her because she will make you want to ride, because the love of riding just beams off of her.” As a matter of fact, Mary Ann leads regular weekend rides that leave out of Clemmons Motorcycles. The destinations vary, but group always has a good ride. Mary Ann chimed into say “We have a good riding family, it’s not just friends, it’s family at this point”. The weekend ride invitation is open to those who love to ride, call or stop by for details! The future of Clemmons Motorcycles is bright and if you are looking for a solid shop to work on your motorcycle, whether it be vintage or modern. Clemmons is a good choice. They can handle your regular services or improve the performance of your motorcycle. “My love is to watch you enjoy riding your motorcycle and if I can help you ride, I’m gonna do it,” Kenny said of his passion to keep motorcycles on the road. If you haven’t already, go by and check em out their new shop in Winston-Salem. Come by and pick Kenny’s brain about your next repair or project. If you have some time on your hands bring up vintage motorcycles and sit back and enjoy the conversation. Maybe even go see Mary Ann and join in on a weekend ride with the Clemmons Motorcycle family. The shop also offers motorcycle accessories, helmets and Clemmons Motorcycles apparel. Whatever it may be that you need, you won’t be disappointed at Clemmons Motorcycles.

Run Up To Spring
By Len “3Wheel” Montgomery
n many areas of the country riders are still dream-
ing of riding weather in February, March and maybe even into April. But in the Old North State, we are blessed to be able to ride nearly year-round. And so it should no surprise when I tell you things in here in the Johnston County area (and surrounding communities) have really been hopping over the last month. Beginning February 26th, Cohorts MC hosted their 1st Annual Chili Cookoff at Pitcher’s Bar in Benson, NC. With ten entries, the judging came down to one single vote, awarding the best chili to Jacek with Evilution MC. You may recall from my last article that Evilution had scored the win at the Wings Cookoff. So, you can say they are on a roll! More on Evilution later. Everyone counted the event as a success. Scott (of the Cohorts) said everyone had a great time. They also held a 50/50 raffle which was won by, you guessed it, someone from Evilution (still on a roll). That was donated back to the Cohorts who turned around and donated all the raffle to Will and Susan Fretwell (see my article from last month to read about their horrendous accident). Later that same day, Dragon Slayers MC JoCo chapter celebrated their 9th Anniversary. Though it was a little chilly, the
fires both inside and out kept us all warm and toasty (a shot and now and then didn’t hurt either). We were all entertained by the duo of Josh and Hannah who honored nearly every request from the crowd. This was to be the last show for Hannah for a while and she gave it her all! And when they took a break, the club took that opportunity to give out their annual riding pins for the most miles ridden the previous year. Honorees were JB, Ralph and Slingblade (if I overlooked anyone, my apologies). I jokingly asked Sling how many of his miles were on a trailer and he assured me none of them (LOL). It was a great night and congrats my brothers on 9 years! Now remember when I said Evilution MC was on a roll? Well, they all rolled down to Tobacco Road Harley-Davidson for their Annual Brad’s Run on March 5th, along with about 60 other bikes. It’s always nice to see a big turnout for a worthy cause. Brad’s Run is held the first Saturday of every March to raise money for The Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center. The run is held to honor the memory of Brad Pelletier, one of the original members of Evilution MC. Brad was tragically taken by a careless driver on the phone. A few years later, the decision to direct the proceeds to fund brain tumor research was made due to the loss of a family member of the club who had lost his battle to brain cancer. What a great way to keep the memories alive of both Brad and Tom! The festivities ended at Evilution’s clubhouse where Russell had prepared pork chops and the fixin’s covered with his Evil sauce. And given their recent

cookoff wins, you know it was good! Later that same day, a crowd was gathering at Streat Freeks RC where they were holding a Low country Boil feast. And a feast it was. Throughout the day people were in and out, some stopping by to hang out and eat, others getting to-go boxes, and a few like me, hung out, ate, and still had enough in the box to-go! In fact, I ate on that box until Sunday night and still couldn’t eat it all. How did they get so much in one box? And how could they put so much food in the box for so little money? Thanks for the hook up, always good to hang out with you folks!! Friday, March 11th held two events that night. Steak night at Desperados MC in Selma and Open House at 301 Brothers RC (with free pizza) in Four Oaks Both clubs had a great turn out and everyone left well fed. I’m beginning to see a pattern here with food. Not a complaint, just an observation. And the following day on March 12th, 81 in Fayetteville had their 19th Anniversary party. While I was unable to attend because of my regular job, I feel certain they had a large turn out and a great celebration. Happy Anniversary my brothers. Who can overlook St Patty’s Day? While not officially a bike event, although there were members from at least 4 clubs present, Napper Tandy’s Public House and Restaurant threw one hell of an Irish traditional celebration. All authentic Irish menu including Fish and Chips, Bangers and Mash, Shepherd’s Pie and more. And it was delicious. And right about the time we finished our meal, we were introduced to the Gaelic

band, Tan and Sober Gentlemen. They were not what I expected. I was told they were good. But they were much better than I could have hoped for! A head banging version of authentic Irish music is the best way I can describe them. Definitely see them if you get the opportunity! Saturday morning the weather was beautiful, and I headed out to Plan B in Smithfield where Help Thy Neighbor JoCo were having their first fundraiser of the year. It was good seeing these folks for the first time in several months. They are always faithful to help the community and those who live in it when hard times hit. And they cook a pretty good plate of food too! Today’s plates included BBQ, baked beans and homemade mac-n-cheese. Not sure how much they cooked, but I know they were prepared to feed all comers! Then I was off to prepare for one last event of the day, Gregg Dorsey’s 52nd birthday celebration at 301 Brothers clubhouse. I thought the party started at 7pm, was told later it was 6 pm, and when I arrived at 5pm to open the clubhouse, they were people waiting and stated the flyer said 5pm. OOOPPPSS! But it was all good. Everyone had a great time. Some whined about my meatballs being too hot (you’re a wimp Cole Train). My wife named them 3Wheel’s Great Balls of Fire. But they were all eaten, along with the shrimp and chicken wings and everything else. And we all enjoyed listening to Jenkins and the Rabbit, another duo that I highly recommend you check out. They may even let you get up and sing with them. We were also celebrating another birthday for Stephanie Storm (who turned 29 I believe ). I hope she enjoyed herself. I know her only wish was to get a puppy or a kitten, but it didn’t happen. Wrong Way was on his way to pick one up, so I hear but alas, he went the wrong way (boda bing). Now as I am writing this article, it is the officially the first day of Spring. We are all looking forward to longer, warmer days, though we would be just fine skipping these next few weeks of everything turning yellow. My calendar is already full well into the Summer and Fall is filling up fast as well. And as you can see, JoCo is a hot bed of activity. So, if you’re coming through stop by and say howdy. I’m sure we can entertain you. And as I alluded too previously, there is almost a certainty that there will be food.

ell, here you are again.
Smokin’ H-D Has Top Notch Service Techs
Left behind while all your friends went to Daytona Beach Bike Week. However valid your reason to stay home was, your friends are all posting photos of fun in the sun and that’s not right, you deserve to have some fun too. Good thing Smokin’ Harley-Davidson is looking out for you with their “Better Than Daytona” Party. There may not have been palm trees and chicks in bikinis, but they did have Smokin’ deals going on, and that counts for something, They were throwing 40% off selected officially licensed merchandise and FREE installation on LED turn signal inserts. It was a perfect time to get that upgrade to your bike, at a discount, and have something to show your friends after they dump a load of great stories out of their windburnt mouths. The Dealership was buzzing with folks coming in to check out these incredible deals, and I saw a few test rides going on too. It was a beautiful day to stand around and in the Carolina sunshine and watch the bikes rolling in and out and there was a string of vendors set up as well. Sunglasses, jewelry, and other biker type accessories were all being hocked all afternoon. I was distracted by Dash City Dogs booth set up by the front door. As we all know, I’m a sucker for a hot dog and they were serving em up as quick as they could. I snagged a chili cheese dog with jalapenos a cold drink and some chips and sat back for a minute taking in the scene. The Smokin’ HarleyDavidson service department was putting in work, too. The bays were full of bikes getting TLC from the techs and they were also offering $50 dyno pulls! Don’t mind if I do! I’ve had some mild upgrades done to my dyna, and was happy to see it put up 87hp. The good news is that if you aren’t happy with your bike’s numbers, the Smokin’ service department can help you fix that! All in all, it was a great day at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson. It may not have been as thrilling as Daytona, but hey, any day out on the bike is a good day! Smokin’ Harley-Davidson has a calendar full of events and always goes the extra mile to show you a good time. Check out their ad and the Cruisin’ Calendar to keep up with the good times!

Girl Gang Goes To Greensboro
By: Karen Daigle as published on FitHippie.blog on 3-23-2022 very now and then, an ordinary day turns into a perfectly aligned space and time of adventure and comradery. An ordinary meet up with a few gal pals for a motorcycle ride ends up becoming an epic 300-mile, multi-day adventure! Here’s how it unfolded. . . Because I had to stay off the bike for a bit, this was the first ride I’ve done with the girl gang in several months. The weather was great – warm and sunny, albeit windy – as we gathered at a local coffee shop for a ride north to Hanging Rock State Park. The six of us are part of a women’s motorcycle collective known as The Litas and have all ridden together several times before, so the vibe was comfortable and relaxed from the get-go. After gassing up and a quick safety brief (yeah, my brain still operates on military standards ), we fell into an easy pace with Charlie on lead and me as sweep. I’ve ridden with a variety of different groups over the years; some ride as a synchronized grouping and some ride as a gaggle of individual riders doing their own thing. The latter is a scary thing to be a part of, but the former is a joy to be enveloped in. Fortunately, we fell into the “synchronized
grouping” category and happily rolled along in a 2-second staggered formation across the rural NC landscapes on our way to Greensboro. Despite wind gusts occasionally pushing us off our lines, our travel was untroubled and sprinkled with gas stop stretching and yoga moves. We pulled up to Hops Burger Bar in Greensboro to the sight of four badass bikes parked in a way that allowed us to pull in alongside. These bikes were for the four women we were meeting up with to continue our day of riding. We were all pretty hungry at this point, so we went in and introduced ourselves and joined them for lunch. They were super cool and the conversation flowed easily. With the ice broken between the two groups and our bellies full, we rolled out 10 deep towards Hanging Rock State Park, about a half hour away. The two groups fell into a comfortable formation with allowances for the various bike characteristics and rider preferences. We arrived at Lower Cascades Falls parking lot and hit the trails. After only a half mile hike, we reached the uncrowded, cold-water pool at the base of the falls. A few

gals waded in and others just hung out visiting and taking in the tranquil setting. It was hard to pull ourselves away as the realization that we were quickly losing daylight hit. As the two groups split up to go our separate ways, we adjusted our route home to accommodate escorting one of the Greensboro riders to her home. By the time we waved off the local rider and pointed our bikes toward home, we were losing daylight and warmth, so we pulled into the next gas station to regroup. The next gas station happened to be in a town called Gibsonville, where we met a few lively characters that added to the adventurous vibe already buzzing in the air. By this time, we were so slap-happy that we decided to call it a night and get hotel rooms in the next town instead of pushing on for the last leg of our journey, which was just under 100 miles. Could we have made it home that night? Of course we could, but safety and the chance to collect more experiences tipped the scales into turning our day-ride into an overnighter! By the time we parked and secured a couple of rooms for the 6 of us, we scurried over to the nearby Target (pronounced tar-JAY) for basic hygiene items before they closed. It was pretty amusing to watch a group of women, who also happen to all be mothers, treat an essentials stop at Target as an unencumbered (i.e., no kids in tow) shopping spree! Finally, we got the frogs herded and, carrying our Target bags like purses, walked to a local restaurant/bar for a very late dinner and
drinks. Savoring the food and reliving the day was cut a little short as a fight broke out in the restaurant and the police were called. We took that as our cue to end the evening and made our way back to the hotel. What a day it had been! We needed to be back home by mid-morning, so we agreed the night before to be ready to roll out at 7:30 am. As I made my way down to the lobby for coffee and a quick breakfast at 7 am, I was pleasantly surprised to see everyone up and on track for kick stands up at 7:30 as planned. Under a waning full moon, we backed all six bikes out of the single parking space and rolled out into a clear 47-degree morning. The ride was chilly, but the rural, twisty roads before we hit the main highway made it enjoyable. My heart was full as I shut off the engine to my bike safely parked in the garage a couple hours later. Oftentimes, it takes the passage of many years to look back on an experience and recognize it for one of the “good ole day” memories that it becomes. On a few rare occasions though, you feel in your soul as it’s happening that an experience will become a treasured memory. This little jaunt was one of those. As I continue to transition from the brotherhood of the military, I am deeply grateful for this welcoming sisterhood on wheels!

What Does Easter Mean? What Does Easter Mean? Easter is not about a basket of candy, or a new outfit, not about all the colored eggs. Just remember eggs rot, rabbits die, but Jesus lives. For some that may be enough for you because it got you to church (probably first since Christmas) and you’ll go spend some time with family. Let me tell you the real meaning of Easter. Matthew 27: 32-66. 32-Now as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. Him they compelled to bear His cross. 33And when they had come to a place called Golgotha, that is to say, place of the Skull. 34- they gave Him sour wine mingled with gall to drink. But when He had tasted it He would not drink. 35- Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lot. 36- Sitting down, they kept watch over Him there. 37- And they put up over His head the accusations written against Him. THIS IS JESUS THE KING Of THE JEWS. 38- Then two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and another on the left. 39- And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads. 40- and saying You who destroyed the temple and built it in three days, save Yourself If You are the Son Of God come down from the cross. 41- Likewise the chief priest also, mocking with the scribes
and elders, said. 42- He saved others, Himself He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him. 43- He trusted in God: let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said I am the Son of God. 44- Even the robbers who were crucified with Him reviled Him with the same thing. 45- Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. 46- And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying Eli Eli lama sabachthani that is My God My God, why have You forsaken Me. 47- Some of those who stood there, when they heard that, said. This Man is calling for Elijah! 48- Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink. 49- The rest said, Let Him alone: let us see if Elijah will come to save Him. 50- And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. 51- Then behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom: and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split. 52- and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53- and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many, 54So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly saying, Truly this was the Son of God! 55-

And many women who followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to Him, we’re there looking on from afar. 56- among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons. 57- Now when evening had come a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus. 58- This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body be given to him. 59- When Joseph had taken the body he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth. 60- and laid it in his new tomb which he had hewn out of rock; and he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb, and departed. 61- And Mary Magadalene was there and the other Mary sitting opposite the tomb. 62- On the next day, which followed the day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate. 63- saying, Sir we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said After three days I will arise. 64- Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, He has risen from the dead, So the last deception will be worst than the first. 65- Pilate said to them, You have a guard; go your way, make it as secure as you know how. 66- So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the guard. Matthew 28: 1-9 1-Now after the Sabbath as the first day of the week began to dawn Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. 2- And behold there was a great earthquake for an angel of the Lord descended from Heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door and sat on it. 3-His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. 4- And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men. 5- But the angel answered and said to the women, Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6- He is not here; He is risen as He said. Come see the place where the Lord layed.

11th Annual Bikers In Boxers
By: Pam Irvin Photos By: Louetta Constante aturday, March 5th Waynesville NC was the place to be out riding, wearing nothing but boxers. It was the 11th annual “Bikers in Boxers” hosted by the VFW #5202 riders group. Their slogan is “we freeze so they don’t have to”. The event is a fundraiser for the Haywood County Mountain Projects Share the Warmth Program. The program assists elderly with heating costs in Haywood County. This year the weather was amazing. The ride started at 12 noon. The temperature was around 62 degrees when we started. It was no problem stripping down to the bare necessities with weather like that. The group started off at the VFW Post 5202 in Waynesville. We were led through
downtown Waynesville by the Waynesville Police Department. The streets of Waynesville were lined with citizens cheering the group on as everyone was baring it all for a great cause. Back at the VFW after the ride there was a chili cook off, live auction and raffles for everyone to partake in. Live music was provided by the Outlaw Whiskey Band. Some of the groups represented were the VFW Riders Group, The Combat Veterans, The Horny Old Goats, Warrior Clan, Independent Brotherhood, Spyder Ryders and the Christian Motorcycle Association. There were about 100 participants with over 40 motorcycles in the parade this year. It seems to get better every year that I participate. Anyone in the Waynesville area, this is an event that you don’t want to miss. A great time is almost guaranteed.

NHTSA Overview Of Motor Vehicle Crashes In 2020
March 3, 2022 - For Immediate Release n Wednesday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released its Overview of Motor Vehicle Crashes in 2020. This report provides a snapshot of crashes, fatalities, and injuries sustained on our nation’s roadways in 2020. The statistics related to motorcyclists were troubling. In 2020, we saw an 11% increase in fatalities from the previous year. In 2019, 5,044 motorcyclists were killed on our roadways. In 2020 that number grew to 5,579. Thankfully, the number of injuries registered in the study dropped slightly from 83,814 in 2019 to 82,528 in 2020. In total, 38,824 people died on U.S. roads in 2020. Motorcyclists made up 14% of that number. The loss of life is not contained to one area as motorcyclist fatalities in urban areas increased by 7.8 percent since 2019 and increased by 11 percent in rural areas. What is perhaps most concerning is that total miles traveled by Americans dropped in 2020 by 11%, yet fatalities increased by 6.8%. Despite less miles being logged more people were killed. Obviously, 2020 was a unique year in which a global pandemic affected every facet of our lives. The data provided in this study can be useful but should be viewed with the understanding that 2020 was an unprecedented year. Despite that, there is no question that reports like this will spur questions and ultimately action by policymakers in Washington, D.C. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) is committed to ensuring motorcyclists have a voice when issues like safety are debated. Your support and commitment to giving the street rider a voice in our nation’s capital remains vital. Thank you for supporting the MRF and as always Ride Safe and Ride Free.

Springers Bar Triad Honor Flight Benefit
By Rose and Lloyd he Triad flight of Honor was organized in 2009-2011 by Rotary District 7690. They took some 1300 WWII veterans by flight to Washington DC to visit some of the national Monuments. There was not another trip until November 11th 2021. Their Mission is to celebrate America’s Veterans by inviting them to share in a day of Honor at our national memorials. Their vision, a nation where all American ‘s Veterans experience the honor, gratitude, and community of support they deserve. It was the work of many, like Jeff Schmid a top tier sponsor with Springers Bar raising money through benefits and raffles. Springers Bar had a benefit Feb. 26th, with a raffle of a Diamondback AR15, won by Donna Panton, A 50/50 auction and great barbeque cooked on the smoker by Jeff. The band Room42 entertained the crowd. Many thanks to all that participate, the American Military Family for selling raffle tickets, along with Greensboro Elks Riders Lodge 602. Jeff and bar manager Heather Moran sold over 300 tickets. The Honor Flight is planned for April 27, 2022 and they anticipate another flight this year, so watch for the next benefit! Keep your eye on The Carolina Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar and Springers’ FB page.

Josh DeBenedetto’s
SPLIT DECISION
Is No Cookie Cutter
CHOPPER
ome folks grow into their love of motorcycles and
others are born into it. Josh DeBenedetto is the latter. “It started pretty much when I came out of the womb”, josh says as he talks about his father introducing him to motorcycles at a young age. “When I was a baby, he would actually bungee cord me to him and we would ride all around the country”. Josh rode with his dad for years to come until by the ripe age of 8 he was 6’2” he was too big to ride double. That didn’t stop his love of riding, just delayed it until he could get his own ride. When he was 17, he snagged a crusty, broke down Honda Shadow 600 that was only running on one cylinder. “It actually sat for a couple months, cause I honestly didn’t know how to work on it. I decided, you know what, this thing already doesn’t work. Let’s just go in there and start taking things a part and see if I can’t just get it going”.
Eventually Josh figured it out and turned that Shadow into his first customized bike. The Shadow served as his only transportation for some time and even helped him secured his first job opportunity at a bike shop. From there Josh’s bike building talents grew, he opened his own motorcycle repair shop and won a handful of awards with choppers he customized before he set his sights on his first full build, Split Decision. Through a customer of his shop he was able to score a 1967 Harley-Davidson FLH generator shovelhead at an absolute steal. The bike had been sitting for a number of years and in its current shape it was gonna take thousands of dollars to get it road worthy. Good things come to those who wait, and after some time the customer let Josh take the bike off his hands for $1,200. Like I said, an absolute steal! “I was in the process of building it as a Biltwells Peoples Champ Bike. I didn’t make

it through (the voting) to the top 24 and I didn’t really have an idea of what I was gonna do to the bike, I just kinda tore it down. It came with a wide glide front end, after market triple trees that were only like a half inch thick, had the little mini front brake rotor on it and five gallon split tank and a 180 tire on the back. It literally had a fender from a tractor trailer on the back of it, so it looked terrible.” Josh commented. Once he got the bike tore down Josh knew that he was all in on this build. “I knew I was gonna really just push myself fabricating wise and building wise and just really pour my whole soul into this motorcycle and just build something unique. I wanted to build something that wasn’t a cookie cutter chopper.” He
said. Josh did just that. He custom built an epic split coffin tank. Josh said, “I had never seen a split coffin tank so, I went for it.” Mocking it up with cardboard til he got the look just right and then hand crafting the take to his liking. He carried the split theme to the seat pan and even to oil bag, so you can see down through the motorcycle. The left side of the oil bag houses the electrical components of the bike to keep that clean look. Naturally that gorgeous ’67 Shovelhead engine needed some love so he split the work with racing legend Pete Hill, who only lives 10 minutes down the road. Josh rebuilt the top end and left Pete to rework the bottom end then married it to a

4 speed ratchet top transmission. He added more unique pieces with the help of a local blacksmith, Jason Anderson of JHA Works, who hand forged some custom metal for the bike. “We made that whole design with the wrought iron, then I took it home and started bending it to utilize it for the hand shifter and even the mounting pieces for the split tanks”, Josh went on. Once he started working on the bike, Josh dedicated himself and finished the build in 45 days. “I did three weeks strait of just fabricating that whole motorcycle, just every day”, Josh explained. All the work was recorded by his wife, Katie, who happens to be a talented videographer and was there to capture the finer moments. The bike was brought together with a gorgeous black paint job with gold leaf accents and red pinstriping by Charlie Tyre. But don’t take our word for it. Josh already cleaned up at some prestigious Daytona Bike Week chopper shows, bringing home a handful of awards. “I’m just a regular dude with a passion for motorcycles so it’s absolutely completing”, Josh Said, about how it feels to ride out and have such success on a bike he created. As for the future of Split Decision, Josh said “I built it to ride it, I didn’t build it to be a show pony and trailer it around everywhere”.

A father walks into a restaurant with his little young son. He gives the young boy 3 nickels to play with to keep him occupied. Suddenly, the boy starts choking, going blue in the face. The father realizes the boy has swallowed the nickels and starts slapping him on the back. The boy coughs up 2 of the nickels, but keeps choking. Looking at his son, the father is panicking, shouting for help. A well dressed, attractive, and serious looking woman, in a blue business suit is sitting at a coffee bar reading a newspaper and sipping a cup of coffee. At the sound of the commotion, she looks up, puts her coffee cup down, neatly folds the newspaper and places it on the counter, gets up from her seat and makes her way, unhurried, across the restaurant. Reaching the boy, the woman carefully drops his pants; takes hold of the boy’s testicles and starts to squeeze and twist, gently at first and then ever so firmly. After a few seconds the boy convulses violently and coughs up the last nickel, which the woman deftly catches in her free hand. Releasing the boy’s testicles, the woman hands the nickel to the father and walks back to her seat at the coffee bar without saying a word. As soon as he is sure that his son has suffered no ill effects, the father rushes over to the woman and starts thanking her saying, “I’ve never seen anybody do anything like that before, it was fantastic. Are you a doctor? “ “No,’ the woman replied. I’m with the I.R.S.” Little Zachary was doing very badly in math. His parents had tried everything; tutors, mentors, flash cards, special learning centers. In short, everything they could think of to help his math. Finally, in a last ditch effort, they took Zachary down and enrolled him in the local Catholic school. After the first day, little Zachary came home with a very serious look on his face. He didn’t even kiss his mother hello. Instead,
Spokes & Jokes he went straight to his room and started studying. Books and papers were spread out all over the room and little Zachary was hard at work. His mother was amazed. She called him down to dinner. To her shock, the minute he was done, he marched back to his room without a word, and in no time, he was back hitting the books as hard as before. This went on for some time, day after day, while the mother tried to understand what made all the difference. Finally, little Zachary brought home his report card. He quietly laid it on the table, went up to his room and hit the books. With great trepidation, his mom looked at it and to her great surprise, little Zachary got an ‘A’ in math. She could no longer hold her curiosity. She went to his room and said, “Son, what was it? Was it the nuns?” Little Zachary looked at her and shook his head, “no”. “Well, then,” she replied, “was it the books, the discipline, the structure, the uniforms? What was it?” Little Zachary looked at her and said, “Well, on the first day of school when I saw that guy nailed to the plus sign, I knew they weren’t fooling around.” Abu al-Zarqawi died and George Washington met him at the Pearly Gates. He slapped him across the face and yelled, “How dare you try to destroy the nation I helped conceive!” Patrick Henry approached, punched him in the nose and shouted, “You wanted to end our liberties but you failed!” James Madison followed, kicked him in the groin and said, “This is why I allowed our government to provide for the common defense!” Thomas Jefferson was next, beat Abu al-Zarqawi with a long cane and snarled “It was Evil men like you who inspired me to write the Declaration Of Independence.” The beatings and thrashings continued as George Mason, James Monroe and 66 other early Americans unleashed their anger on the terrorist leader. As Abu al-Zarqawi lay bleeding and in pain, an Angel appeared. Abu al-Zarqawi wept and said, “This is not what you promised me.” The Angel replied, “I told you there would be 72 Virginians waiting for you in Heaven. What did you think I said?” An illegal immigrant picks up a hooker. “Hey, how much you charge for hour, sister?” he asks. “$100,” she replies. In broken English, he says, “You do immigrant style?” “No” she says. “I pay you $200 to do immigrant style.” “No,” she says, not knowing what immigrant style is. “I pay you $300.” “No,” she says. “I pay you $400.” “No,” she says. So, finally he says, “OK,
I pay $1,000 to do immigrant style.” She thinks, well, I’ve been in this game for over 10 years now. I’ve had every kind of request from every kind of weirdo. How bad could immigrant style be? So, she agrees, and has sex with him. Finally, after several hours, they finish. Exhausted, the hooker turns to him, and says, “Hey, I was expecting something weird and disgusting. But that was pretty good. So, what exactly is immigrant style?” The illegal immigrant replies, “You send bill to government.” “Bail ‘em out? Back in 1990, the government seized the Mustang Ranch brothel in Nevada for tax evasion and, as required by law, tried to run it. They failed and it closed. Now, we are trusting the economy of our country, our banking system, our auto industry, and possibly our health plans to the same nit-wits who couldn’t make money running a whore house and selling whiskey!” “What the hell are we thinking?” A police officer pulls over a speeding car. The officer says, “I clocked you at 80 miles per hour, sir.” The driver says, “Gee, officer, I had it on cruise control at 60; perhaps your radar gun needs calibrating.” Not looking up from her knitting the wife says: “Now, don’t be silly dear. You know that this car doesn’t have cruise control.” As the officer writes out the ticket, the driver looks over at his wife and growls, “Can’t you please keep your mouth shut for once? The wife smiles demurely and says, “Well dear you should be thankful your radar detector went off when it did or your speed would have been higher.” As the officer makes out the second ticket for the illegal radar detector unit, the man glowers at his wife and says through clenched teeth, “Woman, can’t you keep your mouth shut?” The officer frowns and says, “And, I notice that you’re not wearing your seat belt, sir. That’s an automatic $75 fine.” The driver says, “Yeah, well, you see, officer, I had it on, but I took it off when you pulled me over so that I could get my license out of my back pocket.” The wife says, “‘Now, dear, you know very well that you didn’t have your seat belt on. You never wear your seat belt when you’re driving.” And as the police officer is writing out the third ticket, the driver turns to his wife and barks, ‘WILL YOU PLEASE SHUT UP?” The officer looks over at the woman and asks, “Does your husband always talk to you this way, Ma’am?” She replied, “Only when he’s been drinking!”
