this world. We know all that he was, a lover of life, a loving husband and father, and a loyal friend. Mark loved motorcycles from the time as a toddler, he tried to start his father’s big Indian and only succeeded in knocking it over. Of course, the bike had to go but the spark was lit and stayed with him all his life. From Honda, to Triumph, to Harley-Davidson he owned, rode, and loved them all. In early 1998, when we saw the opportunity to begin Full Throttle Magazine, there was nothing like it in the Carolinas’. We made the transition from a carpentry business to publishing in a heartbeat. We knew that this was what we were supposed to do and that it would change the motorcycle community through the compilation and publication of news, events, and services of biker friendly businesses. We, that is Mark, Molly, and Lincoln, even though Lincoln was still in high school, embarked on this journey with excitement and high hopes. Of course, we had lots of support from (Son) Lucas and (Daughter) Lydia, and a few riding buddies who saw the potential. It became our life’s work, everything revolved around the magazine. And it still does to this day. We, (now Molly, Lincoln, and Maggie), worked the August issue and when we uploaded to the printer, we carried on with Mark’s Celebration of Life. It’s the way he would have wanted it. We will miss riding with him to the events, his quick wit and ability to have a good time wherever we ended up. He was a born leader, content creator and had a wealth of knowledge that encompassed the motorcycle community and beyond. Mark never did anything halfway and brought his determination and talent to create the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. He left a legacy. He left The Carolinas’ Full Throttle magazine - the printed word. He was fond of repeating an old saying from a local newspaper: “Print is the only media you can refer to at will.” Following Mark’s example and with the knowledge and experience of the past 23 years / 277 issues we will continue to deliver the best motorcycle events coverage magazine on the east coast. You hold in your hands the proof, our 23rd anniversary edition. We will build on Mark’s legacy of being on the front lines of the biker community, experiencing and reporting on the events in the Carolinas and giving you notice of upcoming events in the Cruisin’ Calendar. We greatly appreciate the continued support of our advertisers, and the help and dedication of our sales reps. Mark always said the magazine is about you the motorcycle enthusiasts of the Carolinas, so with the support of advertisers and help of our sales reps, we will continue in print and mirror the publication online.

North Carolina may be the BBQ capital of the South but is home to the now worldfamous Pandemonium Performance Custom Cycles. Kary Blaylock has been in the motorcycle mechanic circle for the past 16 years graduating from MMI in 2005 and going to work for Don Tilley for 10 years. Kary earned his Master Of Technology in an astonishing 5 years before opening his own shop in Denton, NC in 2014. Kary and his crew then moved the shop up the road to Lexington NC and have a great location just outside of downtown. The shop features a show room for consignment bikes, parts and Pandemonium Performance gear, a work area with multiple lifts and a huge basement for long term projects and motorcycle storage. On June 26th Kary threw a shindig to celebrate his “Lucky 7” Anniversary Party and pulled out all the stops. It was a hot, sunny Saturday and I was geared up for an all-day party, and so was the Pandemonium crew. The hours for the event were 10am-8pm and the parking lot was an everchanging stream of customers, friends and motorcycle enthusiasts. The back yard of the shop was where most of the party was going on. The band Vinyl Rapture was set up and played all day long. They were cranking out a lot of good classic rock tunes and even pulled off some Led Zeppelin songs. The rest of the vendors lined the property offering jewelry, biker gear, and even message therapy! BBQ (naturally) was the meal of the day, the cooks had stayed out all night cooking that hog, and man it was delicious. I snagged a great big plate of BBQ with beans, potato salad and cold drink and found a shady place to eat and listen to the music. Kary was running around all day greeting folks making sure they had what they needed to enjoy themselves. He had the hard task of selecting some bikes off the lot to win the bike exington
show awards. As usual, there were a lot of fine motorcycles hanging around, but Kary sorted it out and a super clean purple Heritage Softail took home top honors, followed by a confederate themed Sportster and a rarely seen red FXR pulled in 3rd place. Late in the afternoon, Keyla and Kaitlyn snagged the mic and started pulling raffle tickets for the table full of shirts, hoodies, and other cool swag. The band took back the stage and rocked out for a while longer. The crowd was continuously changing and the lot stayed full all day. It was a hell of a day to celebrate Pandemonium’s 7th Anniversary. Looking forward to seeing all the cool stuff coming out of the shop in the upcoming year. If you are looking for a shop that can take care of your regular service or make those custom upgrades happen Kary and his crew can take care of you. My personal experience with Pandemonium Performance Custom Cycles has always been stellar and I would recommend them to anyone. Check out their ad for their monthly offering and make sure to hook up with them on August 28th for the Annual Shop Ride! The ride leaves Pandemonium Performance at 9am and heads for a full day of riding including a stop at Murrow Mountain. See ya there.

Ride For Charlotte
By: Dawn Harris
Charlotte, aka Silly Goose, came into the world July 11, 2018. Her parents, Brent and Jessica Lalas were instantly in love with their precious and perfect baby girl!!! Just two weeks after her 1st birthday, they were given the news every parent fear for their child! She had cancer. On July 25, 2019, she was diagnosed with “B” cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Before the age of 3, Charlotte has endured surgery for a central port, numerous lumbar punctures, two bone marrow aspirations, and countless doses of Chemotherapy. Charlotte is a true warrior and fights every day! She continues to amaze us with her strength and deteriss
mination! When asked what she wanted for her 3rd birthday, she responded “motorcycles”!! And that is EXACTLY what she received!!!! Chrome Angelz RC Paradise Sisterz of Lexington NC, along with Fierce and Free Chapter of Jamestown NC, Iron Sisterz Chapter of Iron Station NC, Road Sirenz Chapter of Raleigh NC and assistance from Wren Spiritz Chapter of Greensboro and many other riders showed up to support this wonderful girl and give her a birthday she would never forget! This event was almost called off when Charlotte was brought into the ER and admitted to the hospital two days before! After a transfusion and much improvement, she was released from the hospital the day before her ride was scheduled, and she was READY for her motorcycles!!! The ride began at Tobacco Road Harley-Davidson in Raleigh July 17. Escorted by Wake County Sheriff’s Department, the ride continued to Charlotte’s house in Zebulon, where she was waiting with Mom and Dad as 55 bikes rolled up to her front yard, along with gifts and donations for her and her family. Her face was priceless!!!! Then it was off to Krafty’s Burgers and Brews in Garner for much need lunch, music by our DJ from Stylus!!! And 50/50 and item raffles!! It was a perfect day!!!! Special thanks to all the Chrome Angelz RC members, to the amazing community that stepped up with donations! To all the local businesses for your sponsorships!!! To the Wake County Sheriff’s Department for the great lead! And To Dem 2s motorcycle group for the awesome blocking to ensure everyone arrived at Charlotte’s safely!!!! We cannot thank everyone enough that was involved in helping this family out and putting a smile on this precious girl’s face!! Together, we were able to raise close to $3000!!!! Donations are always welcome!! You can send them to the family’s Pay Pal Goingsolo6@yahoo.com Much Love, Honor, and Respect

Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Biker Appreciation Bike Night By: Lincoln Infield verybody is working for the weekend and a
Friday night party is the way to end the week and kick off the good times. Here at the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine, we wanted to make sure that you have a good pre-game for your Friday night and the rest of your weekend. So, on Friday June 11th we hosted a Biker Appreciation Bike Night from 6-9 to get your weekend off to a good start. The forecast was a bit questionable for that afternoon, but the percentage of rain was relatively low for the hours of the event and, ya know, sometimes it rains and you get wet. That’s just life. The phone lines were lighting up all day asking us if we were still having the bike night. Yeah, we’re partying out here! We had been looking forward to the event for a few months and were determined to have a good time whether it was 10 people or 100 people. The skies stayed dry all day and the vendors were rolling in by 5pm to get set up by the 6pm bike night start time. We iced down 10 cases of beer and a couple soft drinks as well and rolled out the big coolers to the McGrath Law Tent where Shannon, Dexter, Tyler, Bailey, Kim & Joey were set up. McGrath donated the hotdogs for the event and had the Chrome Angelz serving the dogs up for donations that would benefit Big Bikes 4 Purple Hearts charity. Dexter was rolling dogs all night long and ended up serving over 100. We had a great group of vendors on the lot including Ink Lab Tattoo, Birdie’s Patches & Sewing, The CMA, Vicky Crib’s Jewelry booth, Karen Hatchet was selling tickets for
multiple gun raffles that benefit the Shriners Hospitals, and Paul Watson of Lumbee Racing was set up with his drag bike “Fat Nasty”. The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine booth was set up and Molly (Mom) and Maggie were selling tickets for the Mayhem In Midway Charity Chopper Raffle and it was also the DJ booth. Six O’clock brought with it the sound of motorcycles rolling into the parking lot. A lot of familiar faces rolled in from our local watering holes and riding groups. Legion Riders, Springers Bar regulars, and the crew from Pandemonium Performance Custom Cycles along with a lot of our bike night regulars and FT Staff. The night went along with no sign of cloud sweat, the music played, folks came and went and we were having a blast. When it got closer to 8pm it was time for the Editor’s Choice / Best Bike On The Lot to be chosen. Mark (Dad) and I cruised the lot looking over the bikes. We are always looking for something that stands out from the crowd. It doesn’t have to be the fanciest bike, but something out of the norm, something that shows some creativity and honestly, something that peaks our interest. This is never an easy choice to be made, so Dad and I narrowed the choices to two bikes and called in McGrath Attorney, Tyler Stiles to call the tie breaker. At that point, it was my pleasure to announce Devon Eckart of Whiskey Tango Choppers as the winner. Devon brought out a custom hardtail 2006 Suzuki Savage 650cc chopper that he built at his shop in Thomasville. It was definitely the most unique bike on the lot, and we appreciate Devon riding it out to the bike night. Devon pulled it up to the FT Magazine tent and did a burnout to

Devon Eckart And His 2006 Suzuki Savage 650cc chopper please the crowd before we shot photos of the chopper. Devon won a crispy $50 bill which he used to buy two tickets for the Mayhem In Midway Chopper Raffle to benefit the Salisbury VA Hospital Hospice Unit. Hell of a guy right there. When 9pm rolled around the coolers were empty so we called the night a success. Turns out it rained just about everywhere, except at our location. We didn’t have the biggest crowd ever, but we had a hell of a good time, and that’s all that really matters. We are throwing another bike night on August 20th here at the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine HQ: 711 West Main St. Jamestown, NC. It’s another Friday night and the beer will be cold and FREE along with hot dogs from the McGrath Law Firm. This upcoming bike night will be our 23rd Anniversary Party so we will probably throw some fireworks in the mix to end the night with a bang. Y’all ride out and party with us.

By: Bill Gallaway t finally stopped raining for us to get our monthly
ride in for July. Those that rode experienced a wonderful day of fun and fellowship. We met in Pickens SC at 9:00 am and it was KSU at 9:30. Our plan was to head north to Rosman NC, traveling on NC 215 leading to the Blue Ridge Parkway. However, it was time for lunch, so we stopped for a bite at Bogart’s Restaurant and Tavern in Waynesville, NC. Our lunch was fantastic as usual, great service and food. Did I mention the onion rings are wonderful as well as their hand-cut fries? After lunch, it was on to the Parkway. The weather was still holding, so after a stop at Waterrock Knob Overlook, we ventured on to the highest elevation on the Parkway, which is 6053 feet, overlooking the Richland Balsam Mountain. After that, we headed home and will look forward to next month’s ride.

6th Annual Big Bikes 4 Vets Purple Heart Ride By: Jack Waters Photos: Rose & Lloyd Luquer On Saturday June 19th, the Sixth Annual Big Bikes 4 Purple Heart Ride was held at American Legion Post 55. When we arrived, the Duck Doughnut truck was parked and open for business. The DJ, Ken Spence, was set up and it was only 8am. Arriving early has its benefits, because I was able to park near the front of what eventually ended up being close to 300 bikes. Registration took place inside with the cold AC blowing. Registration was easy, there were great t-shirts and some awesome raffle prizes including an AR-15. Several items were worth upwards of $800. But that is not new as they always have great raffle items at Big Bikes. The best thing is, you have a great chance to win, because only those that attend the event are eligible. Lots of hot coffee, cold water and even biscuits from Biscuitville! Ride of Honor had 2 trucks present including the Purple Heart Truck. Parking was easy with staff guiding you where to park, and it was all paved. Large banners showed great corporate sponsors such as Tom McGrath Motorcycle Law Group, Mantle Realty, Atlas Firearms, Phoenix Motors, Jerry Hunt Motors, 40 Oaks Properties, Pepsi, Smokin’ Harley Davidson and Rachael Abbott State Farm. About 10:30 am, there was an awesome patriotic program featuring a ceremony of live “taps” to honor those who have fallen in combat, then the National Anthem was sung by Lynn Bolt, with a color guard from RJ Reynolds High School.
“Techie McCord” was honored as the Honorary Ride Captain. The guest speaker was retired Command Master Chief James Parlier, who was the senior enlisted man on board the USS Cole when it was attacked by terrorists before 9/11. One of the main features of the ride is that it is fully escorted by law enforcement. There were seven motor officers from Winston Salem Police Department and 3 motor officers from Davidson County Sheriff’s Department. The ride left precisely at 11:30 am. Just before, I was surprised when everyone was told to not start their bikes until told to do so. Soon, I understood, as I heard the words of “Ladies and Gentlemen Riders, start your engines.” The roar of engines was deafening, but awesome to hear. We rolled out of Post 55 on to Salem Parkway, then onto I-485 South and was amazed as I watched the motor officers, clear and in some cases stop traffic to allow us to roll, even on the interstate. In Midway, we made our way onto two lane roads and rode a steady pace through Welcome, NC noticing that there were spectators on the sides of the road waving flags and shouting hellos. It was obvious they expected us. This happened in many places along the route, as we rolled through the pretty country side of Davidson County. We hopped back onto 485, this time northbound onto Salem Parkway again and soon we were pulling into Smokin’ Harley-Davidson. Waiting for us there were lots of vendors, live music, and a huge white tent. Everyone was excited to arrive, and were hungry and thirsty. There was cold soft drinks and food from Mt. Fried Chicken, and beers for purchase from Xtreme Wings-Nthings to top it off.
www.
FullThrottleMagazine.com
It was evident that the trees and the big white tent were a hit as it was hot. Lots of folks were buying more raffle tickets and at 2pm, all prize items were awarded. In reflection I have to say this is one the smoothest run events in N.C. and speaking with lots of riders, it is one of the ‘must attend’ events each year. As the founder of “BigBikes4Vets,” I remind everyone of why the event is held. It is to recognize and assist veterans in the Greater Triad Area. This event helps fund the Northwest Piedmont Purple Heart Foundation, The Hero Center, Americans Assisting Veterans and Honor Flight. All in all, almost $14,000 was raised. Several riding clubs including several chapters of Chrome Angels, US Spyder Ryders of Charlotte, American Patriots MG Region IV participated and a huge shout out to the Steel Rain MC for their very generous donation. The event could not be successful without the riders and sponsors who help every year. Thank you to the American Legion Post 55 for hosting the start of the event and the many volunteers from the American Legion Riders. I consider every rider a part of the Big Bikes family and we try each year to improve the event for everyone. In closing, it is easy to see why riders return each year for this ride. On the ride, I did not put my foot down one time, until we arrived at the end. Well organized, great people and great cause!

Iron Chariot 10th Anniversary Ride Ten years ago, Mike Williams and Dr. Bob Harman were having lunch after a ride through the mountains. Dr. Bob asked Mike how to do a charity ride to benefit Greater Piedmont Adult & Teen Challenge (GPATC). Mike said he would call a few friends and organize a ride. Mike contacted his riding buddies Herbie McPherson, from Noah’s Tribe, and Kevin Campbell. Then, Mike called the Guilford County Sheriff’s office. Sergeant Major League responded and organized the Iron Chariot ride’s route and enlisted a group of Sheriff’s department motorcycle officers to escort the ride. The first ride started with a pancake breakfast prepared by the staff and students of GPATC. The Iron Chariot event raised money to put a new roof on the campus dormitory. It was attended by 34 bikers. Last year, the Iron Chariot event drew 84 bikers and participants and raised over $5,000 for Teen Challenge.
Dr. Bob Harmon & Sheriff Danny Rogers Mike and Teressa Williams, Kevin and Anne Campbell organized the Iron Chariot’s 10th Anniversary ride on June 5th of this year. The Guilford County Sheriff’s department was contacted. Sheriff Danny Rogers enlisted six of the county’s motorcycle officers to escort the Iron Chariot Ride. Sheriff Rogers arrived at the GPATC campus to greet the riders and thank them for supporting GPATC. Then, Chief Steven Parr called for kick stands up and lead the Sheriff’s motorcycle officers to start the 100 mile ride through the countryside retuning to GPATC for lunch. Many thanks to our sponsors Jam’s Deli of Guilford College, The Fresh Market, Gladwell Insurance, Select Cycle, Krispy Kreme, Harris Teeter and all the great riders who participated in the event. Dr. Harman, Executive Director and avid rider, said more than $36,000 has been raised by the event in ten years to benefit GPATC. GPATC is a residential faith-based program located at 1912 Boulevard Street in Greensboro. The program is for men ages 18 and older with substance abuse issues. GPATC operates totally on private donations from community donors, churches and civic organizations. For more information call 336-292-7795 or visit www.gpteenchallenge.com.

New Harley-Davidson® Sportster® S Model Delivers Unrelenting Performance
MILWAUKEE (July 13, 2021) he Harley-Davidson® Sportster® S model is an all-new sport custom motorcycle designed to deliver a thrilling riding experience and ushers in a new era of Sportster performance. A 121-horsepower Revolution® Max 1250T V-Twin engine puts the Sportster S rider in command of unrelenting, on-demand torque. A taut, lightweight chassis and premium suspension deliver responsive, intuitive handling. From stop light to stop light, and corner to corner, the Sportster® S model offers riders extraordinary power and performance and creates a new standard for the most enduring Harley-Davidson model. An addition to the 2021 Harley-Davidson motorcycle line, the Sportster S will reach Harley-Davidson dealers this fall with a base MSRP of $14,999. “The Sportster S is the next all-new motorcycle built on the Revolution Max platform and sets a new performance standard for the Sportster line,” said Jochen Zeitz, chairman, president and CEO, Harley-Davidson. Styling Communicates Power In profile, the Sportster S model appears crouched and powerful. The fuel tank and tail section frame the engine as the predominate centerpiece of the motorcycle. The massive front tire recalls the fenderless front end of a classic bobber, while the tail section, high-mount exhaust and slim solo seat draw inspiration from the Harley-Davidson XR750 flat tracker. The thick inverted forks and wide-profile tires suggest high-performance sport bike. The powertrain is highlighted with a Chocolate Satin finish on the lightweight magnesium engine covers. Textures, colors, finishes and details were selected to give the Sportster S model the look of a custom show bike that just happens to be parked in the owner’s garage.
Amplified Performance The 1250cc Revolution Max 1250T engine is the mechanical heart of the Sportster S model. This new version of the latest Harley-Davidson liquid-cooled V-Twin engine is tuned to make tremendous torque at low RPM, with a torque curve that stays flat through the powerband – engine performance designed to deliver strong acceleration from a start with robust power through the mid-range. To minimize overall motorcycle weight the engine is integrated into the vehicle as the central member of the chassis. The use of lightweight materials helps achieve a desirable power-to-weight ratio. Ready to ride with the 3.1-gallon fuel tank topped off, the Sportster S model weighs just 502 pounds. A high-mount 2-into-1-into-2 exhaust is designed to produce a pleasing low-frequency tone. (See separate Sportster S Technology release for full details) Technology Enhances the Ride The Sportster S model is equipped with a host of technologies designed to the enhance the riding experience. Three pre-programmed, selectable Ride Modes (Sport, Road and Rain) electronically control the performance characteristics of the motorcycle, and the level of technology intervention. Two Custom modes may be used by the rider to create a set of performance characteristics to meet personal preference or for special situations. Cornering Rider Safety Enhancements by Harley-Davidson®, a collection of technologies intended to enhance rider confidence during unexpected situations or adverse road conditions, are designed to match motorcycle performance to available traction during acceleration, deceleration and braking, in a straight line or while in a turn.

A round, 4.0-inch-diameter TFT screen displays all instrumentation and supports infotainment generated by the rider’s Bluetooth®-equipped mobile device and helmet headset, including music, incoming and out-going calls, and navigation supplied by the Harley-Davidson® App. All-LED lighting includes a Daymaker® Signature LED headlamp designed to produce a homogenous spread of light, eliminating distracting “hot spots.” The headlamp has a distinctive oval or capsule shape that adds style to the front end and will identify the Sportster® S model to other riders and motorists. Optimized Chassis The powertrain is a stressed member of the chassis, eliminating the traditional frame, a design that significantly reduces motorcycle weight and results in a very stiff chassis that contributes to precise handling. A welded tubular steel trellis swingarm features a braced design and stamped X-member to further stiffen the chassis, while its shape adds distinctive style to the motorcycle. The Sportster® S model is equipped with fully adjustable, premium front and rear suspension – SHOWA® 43mm inverted cartridge forks and a SHOWA® Piggyback reservoir rear shock. Rear suspension features hydraulic pre-load adjustment using a convenient knob located on the left side of the motorcycle. Lightweight cast aluminum wheels with a staggered, five-spoke design are shod with wide Dunlop®/HarleyDavidson® Series GT503 tires. Premium Brembo braking components produce outstanding braking feel and performance. The single front brake features a new Brembo radial monoblock fourpiston caliper and a 320mm diameter disc. The rear brake is a two-piston Brembo caliper and a 260mm diameter disc. Forward foot controls and a low handlebar put the Sportster S rider in an aggressive posture on the bike. Unladen seat height is 29.6 inches, low enough for most riders to get feet down at a stop. Brake and clutch hand levers are

adjustable for reach, to best match rider hand size or preference. The Sportster S model is pre-wired for accessory heated hand grips for added comfort in cool weather, and is equipped with two dedicated power points for heated riding gear (heated hand grips and heated riding gear/apparel each sold separately), plus a USB-C port for charging a phone or other device. An external ambient temperature sensor and a low-temp warning on the display screen alert the rider to changing conditions. Cruise control and a proximity-based security system are standard equipment. The steel fuel tank holds 3.1 gallons. PAINT COLORS: Vivid Black; Stone Washed White Pearl; Midnight Crimson ACCESSORIES: Sportster S model accessories available at launch through Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories include these KEY ITEMS: Mid-Control Conversion Kit relocates the left and right rider foot pegs and foot controls from the Original Equipment forward position to a mid-position on the bike. Story by Doc & Lincoln Photos by Linc, Doc, Paulette Mojica & Maggie hunder At The Rock came roaring in to cap off a really busy June in the NC/SC motorcycle world. There was a lot going on that weekend on all sides of the Rockingham Dragway property. Campers lined up Thursday to get a good spot and the party raged on through to Sunday. No matter if you are a drag race enthusiast, live music fan, or just a biker party freak, Thunder At The Rock was the place you wanted to be. It is, after all, “NC’s Own Rally”. Pre-Party At The Hide-A-Way Tavern The Hide-A-Way Tavern is just under 20 minutes away from the Rock hosted the Official Thunder At The Rock Pre-Party on Thursday night. The Hide-A-Way has a long history as a biker bar and is a great hang out. Chris Sachs owns the bar and threw the Pre-Party for all the vendors, racers and party goers to kick off the event. The parking lot was packed and Chris had his hands full on the grill. Free hot dogs and hamburgers complimented by music and a backyard full of motorcycles. It was a great way to get the weekend started. Chris also sponsored the live entertainment at the Rock for the weekend.
are hard to beat and took first place in the Pick Em Up and Put Em Down game. The Minibike Games were popular. Yes, we did some field games on minibikes. Bring your little bike to the field and play. Smiley, Mailman, Tim and the MiniMaids kept the games going and the crowd entertained. I think Larry won the Slow Race. Amber was accurate in the Minibike Jousting poking guys in the chest. Lost the results for all the games. Oh well, y’all had fun. Tim Gelay and the Jive Turkey Racing crew have done a great job putting on the Minibike Races at The Rock for years. This year Tim laid out a tight road course. Tires, clearance, brakes and skill were more important than lots of power. Practice on that track made a difference too. The winners made laps early learning, where they could brake hard and put down power. David Allen won the Grey Beard Class. I was just trying to “Not be Last.” Longtime minibike racer, Dawn Hood won the Powder Puff Class. I need a lady with flat track or motocross
Bringin’ The Thunder – Racing At The Rock. Y’all brought the roaring thunder to Rockingham Dragway the last weekend of June. Thunder At The Rock was a new event and sounded like a success to me. The sound of Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles roared all weekend. Cruising the grounds and ripping down the drag strip. If you are into having fun with motorcycles and minibikes then you need to be at Thunder At The Rock next year. Folks got into the Bike Games with rounds for big motorcycles and minibikes too. Breeze, an Allman Brothers fan from Statesboro, Georgia, won the Slow Race. Chuckie gets into all the activities and won the Keg Roll. David and Bonnie Continued On Page 30

experience to race one of my bikes, a lady who can win Powder Puff and race hard against the guys in the Main. Mason and McKenzie looked like the team to beat in the Sidecar Race. They had an impressive rig and were making plenty of power. But Carl Wilson and Charles Williams have a few years of sidecar racing at Rockingham. They made smooth fast laps to stay ahead of Mason and McKenzie for the win. The long hair wigs are a legal aerodynamic performance enhancement. Mike Nahas wasn’t the guy most folks would have bet on to win the Main Feature Race. He was riding a Coleman. He had to work on the bike to make the race. Hey, lots of us had to work on our bikes or others that weekend. I put Wampus Kitty on the trailer slightly broken. Anywho, Mike was on a Coleman, The Big One with the two racks for carrying beer and ice back to your camp. He had a cooler strapped to the front rack. Hey Mike, was at a big freakin’ party. The bike was hopped up a little and had taller, better tires. Plus, Mike made lots of practice laps. Congrats on the win, Mike. You beat some good racers. Two special awards were also presented. Mason Pittman took home the Munson Award for the Most Spectacular Crash and Most Skin and Blood left on the track. Chris, The Bud Man, got a special award from Tim - a toolbox full of Jive Turkey Racing SWAG. Bud Man started the Munson Award years ago when he wiped out. Yeah, Minibikes are fun, but we came to play with the big ones. All kinds of motorcycles took to the drag strip that weekend several times. Making Lots Of Passes Sometimes it was Arm Drop Drags; instead of using the Christmas Tree Lights to start, one of the pretty pin-up girls from Gliter and Glory would flag the riders off the start. Arm Drop Drags was just a fun time to run your bike down the famous Rockingham Dragway. Owned and managed by Steve Earwood for many decades, The Rock is an internationally known drag strip for setting records. And folks at Thunder At The Rock were playing on it with their street bikes, choppers, race bikes, baggers, sport bikes and minibikes having a great time.
I saw some of y’all come around for lots of passes. Guys were grudge racing their buddies and challenging others. I saw some of them bringing other bikes to the strip just to run them and have fun. Lots of ladies were running their bikes too, enjoying a safe place to twist that throttle as hard as they wanted to. How bout that lady making passes with a sucker in her mouth. A little better than racing while smoking. For this event, there were more real race bikes than in the past. More time that the starting lights and timers were in use. Paul Watson, Lumbee Racing, managed the activities on the drag strip for Thunder At The Rock. Like I said, there was lots of thunder this year. One of the coolest things was the North Carolina / South Carolina Dealer Shootout. I’ve always loved shop challenge races and such. It was a unique opportunity to see several Harley-Davidson dealers setup in one place. Shucks, I’m old. I remember when Don, Gene, Click and other cool old guys ran the dealer’s association and put on cool events. Oh, and Indian was at The Rock. Paul arranged a challenge race between Harley and Indian. Tim Sutherland from Charlotte Indian Motorcycle put up five hundred dollars cash to race a stock Indian Challenger with the 108-inch OHC engine against a Harley. Cox’s Double Eagle Harley-Davidson accepted the challenge and put up a stock Road Glide with a 114-inch M 8 motor. Pushrods versus overhead cam. Punch was riding the Harley and Todd Dillon was on the Indian. Punch knew the Harley and launched well. Todd needed more strip time to perfect leaving the line on that big bike. Punch took the first round on a hole shot. Second round Todd bogged at the line. Harley won the challenge, taking two out of three. But in the third round, Todd showed that the Indian is quicker by a couple tenths. NC / SC Harley Dealer Shootout “Thunder at The Rock was a huge success,” said Paul Watson, Co-Promoter. “We had Minibike Road Racing, Harley Slow Racing, Nitro Harleys, Harley Barrel Racing, Harley Motorcycle Racing, Minibike Racing, and lots of vendors. As I said many times this is North Carolina’s Own Rally.” “I (Paul Watson, owner of Lumbee Racing) will be back next year hosting this event to make it even bigger and better for our fans. We will make this a kids friendly event being that it will be held on the same weekend as Father’s Day. I appreciate all of you that made it to our event and even the folks that couldn’t make it.” “The North Carolina versus South Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealer Shootout was a first since 2003 and we already have H-D Dealers signing up for next year. The NC/SC H-D Dealer Shootout was hosted by Cox Double Eagle H-D of Pinehurst, NC. Jody D. Lowry, the Service Manager; Rachael Turecamo, the Marketing Manager and David Locklear, the Lead Tech, worked very hard to make sure we had a smooth Continued On Page 32

These guys can flat out put it on the track.” “Congratulations to Jaybird Cullen and Boneyard Harley-Davidson in Winterville, NC, for claiming the title as the NC/SC H-D Dealer Shootout Champions until next year. He left with $800 in his pocket as well. Steve Jelley from Speedway H-D in Concord, NC, came in second place and was $500 richer going home. Jason Clement of Tobacco Road H-D, NC, finished third and also went home with $300 cash in hand.” “Congratulations to all of the winners. We had several H-D Dealers and we expect this to grow to full participation next year. We ride Harleys and we race Harleys,” said Paul with Lumbee Racing. Jaybird had a big smile and handful of cash after the Dealer Shootout. “I would like to thank my crew and all the dealerships that participated in the Dealer Shootout for the opportunity at a chance of a lifetime. Winning the shootout. I’m just running on hopes and dreams. Thanks everyone,” Jaybird said. Before the big bikes thundered down the strip, the minibikes made some noise. We ran a couple classes. Not the normal Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Minibike Drag Racing Series rules, just a fun race to put on a show for the folks enjoying Thunder At The Rock. Sorta Stock Campground Cruiser Class was for the bikes folks rode around all weekend and used in the road race, unless it had a really built motor. The WTF Ya Brung Class was for the minibikes with big or built motors making loud popping noises and running funny smelling fuels. Richard Hatcher won the Cruiser Class. Larry Hall blistered the strip to win WTF Class. Thanks a bunch to Jive Turkey Tim for the Silver Platter Trophies and standing in for photos. It’s interesting to see how Minibike Drags are evolving. Look for more races around here. My thanks go out to Ricky Kentrolis for helping with tech and signing folks up. Plus, he helped other racers get their bikes ready to run. And Thanks Bonnie Allen for helping with the eliminations ladders. Vendors, Live Music And The Party Crowd While the track was hot with the drag racing scene, up the hill from the track was a whole ‘nother party! BackYard Baggers was set up close to the racing pits and they put on a sound competition. Even if this isn’t your thing, you gotta stop by to see what all the commotion is about. There are some really wild custom bikes down there putting out outrageous amounts of sound. BYB goes around to a lot of events including Paul Watson’s All Harley World Shootout putting on these topnotch sound competitions. Starting from “Lake Earwood” up around both sides of the
vendor oval, folks were partying it up. There were vendors selling old swap meet parts, some cool ass artwork and vintage clothing, custom patches and everything else you would expect at a bike rally. We made our rounds through the loop hanging out with the likes of Jerry Spencer from Law Tigers, Chris and Felicia Sachs from The Hide-A-Way Tavern, Mark and his Crew from Family Cycles, Wayne and Vandee from Biker Trash Nation and everyone in between. It was a roaming party that had a different flavor at each vendor spot. The sound stage was a great congregation spot and when the bands hit the stage that’s where you could find your friends. Fair Warning was supposed to play two sets Saturday afternoon, but only got in one set before the annual rainstorm. It always happens, just a question of when! This year’s storm didn’t last long but messed the PA system up just enough to cancel the second set. Fair Warning put on a hell of show during the first set rocking all your favorite classic rock hits like the wrote them themselves. Honestly, this year’s rain brought a little relief. It was HOT as usual but the rain dropped the temps and when the sun came back out the humidity stayed low. A good way to get a crowd at the stage is to put pretty girls up there. The stage crew got the sound system working after a while and it was in time for the Bikini Contest, which is always a crowd pleaser. The Glitter and Glory Girls took to the stage along with some of the local gals from the event and put on a heck of a show. In the end, Stephanie was crowned Ms. Thunder At The Rock and beat out a crowd of good looking girls with her patriotic bikini to score a wad of cash. Brickyard Road, a Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute band, rocked the night down as the headliner band. These guys looked and sounded the part and had the crowd on their feet. The party always continues into the night with the campground crowd, but what happens in the campground, stays in the campground. Thunder 2 -- June 14-15, 2022 Didn’t make this year’s event? No worries, TATR will be back next year and as these events go, the crew behind them
www.

will work out the hitches and make it better every year. “For an inaugural event, I don’t think it could not have gone much smoother,” said Steve Earwood, Rockingham Dragway owner. “We had a great turnout of vendors, many of whom have already renewed for 2022. We had some terrific bands, an exciting drag racing program and Tim Gelay and his crew did such a good job with the Jive Turkey Racing Minibike Races that we’re planning to add minibike drag racing next year.” “The bike games that Smiley ramrodded were hilarious to watch and obviously fun to do and that confirmed for me the
33
fact that we need to make Thunder At The Rock even more of a family event moving forward. We’re already planning more kids’ activities next year, although we’ll wrap all of them up before the stage show begins at 8 p.m.”. “Harley-Davidson has a couple of electric kids’ bikes and we’re going to try and put together some demo rides.” “The participation by the Harley dealers was key to our success and the Harley versus Indian drag race generated a lot of interest. I gotta give a shout out to my co-promoters, Paul Watson for an outstanding job heading up the drag racing program and getting the dealers on board and Al “K-9” VanPliet for serving as D.J. and supervising the activities on the midway.” “Overall, it was just a fun event for all of us. In addition to the racing, the music, the stage shows, the games and the sound-off contest, our friends at Cycle Works of Lumberton did a bang-up job of judging the really cool custom bike show.” “I can’t wait to get to work on Thunder 2, which already is on the calendar for June 14-15, 2022, with the campground open on the 13th,” Steve Earwood concluded. Personally, I look forward to next year and Thunder 2. This was a fun, but very busy event for me. Y’all, know I love a Biker Saturday at the Drag Strip. And The Rock is an awesome place for a really big party. Events like this are changing and I like it. It was cool to see a diverse group of riders and the variety of machines they enjoy. Next year y’all don’t need to judge others nor question yourselves. Come on to Thunder At The Rock and join the fun.

1st Annual Remembering “Smitty” Poker Run By: Wally Wersching he Cleveland County CBA/ABATE chapter held a poker run to remember one of their own. I still can’t imagine “Smitty” as gone. I think that I’ll see him again at the next CBA or CCIB event, and we’ll talk and laugh together like we used to do. Tim Smith “Smitty” was the CBA/ ABATE Western District Coordinator. He was very involved in the CBA, and went to the state capital every year to help get some laws changed or enacted. He was a strong believer in Biker’s Rights. “Smitty” was also an active member of the Cleveland County Independent Bikers (CCIB). I planned to go to the poker run for him whenever it was. It was originally scheduled for June 12th, but the weather caused Haley to postpone it to the 26th. I awoke on the 26th, and checked the weather – no rain in the forecast. That was good but the weathermen are almost always wrong, so I took it for what it was. I left home at about 10:00AM heading to the VFW Hall in town. When I arrived, I saw quite a few bikes in the lot. There were a few bikers standing around talking. I shared some Full Throttle magazines with them before I went inside. I went to the registration table, and gave my donation along with a stack of Full Throttle magazines. All the money collected was going to Autism Awareness. They were also selling “Smitty” T-Shirts. There was a pair of high-top sneakers on the shirt. They were “Smitty’s” trademark. He always wore
those high-top sneakers. I went back outside to visit with the bikers coming in. Usually, the bikes could be heard for a couple blocks before they came into the lot. Most bikes sounded the same – Harleys with loud pipes. Then there was another sound- a more mellow sound with quicker revs. We all wondered what kind of bike that was. Then we saw it. One of the CCIB club members rode in on a brand new Moto-Guzzi. It was a beautiful V7 850 Special E5 in “Blu Formale”. It looked like it would be fun to ride. Bikers came up to the bike for a closer look, and they asked the owner how he liked it. He couldn’t say enough good things about it. He’s only had it for a short time – not even long enough for its first service. The lot started to fill up. Haley came out to make sure that everybody went inside to register before the ride. I learned that her bike wouldn’t start, and she would have to ride behind her father “Snake”. As it got closer to 11:00AM, Haley called everybody together to pass on information about the ride. The first stop would be the Windjammers Clubhouse in Shelby, the next would be the CCIB clubhouse in Shelby, then, it was to the R Shop in Mooresboro. After that they would go to the Vintage Dog in Boiling Springs. Finally, the ride would come back to the VFW hall to award any prizes, and have hot dogs, chips, and a drink. After a pre-ride prayer, the bikers lined up for the run. The motorcycles sprang to life with a roar. Everybody was eager for the run to start. Then, they were off! They all left the lot, and turned to the right to head to the Windjammers Clubhouse. It only took a few minutes before it was all quiet again. I know that “Smitty” was very proud that 37 of his friends came out to honor his memory. The money raised would be donated to the Autism Awareness in “Smitty’s” name. He will never be forgotten.

All Harley World Shootout At The New 710 Dragway Andy Simon, Pro Extreme Bagger
Story and photos by Alan Dockery he All Harley World Shootout was back at the home track, The New 710 Dragway, Pembroke, NC, for the second race of the 2021 series. The last weekend of June presented some challenges with a few rain showers, but the track crew kept the track ready to race. Fans were thrilled by racers from young kids on dirt bikes, big kids on minibikes, lots of thundering Harley-Davidson drag bikes and Pro Fuel Nation. If you are addicted to Nitro-Fueled Harley-Davidson Drag Bikes, then Pro Fuel Nation is what you need. Trust me. Lots of smoke and eye-watering nitro fumes in the air will make you feel good. Part of The All Harley World Shootout Series of races, Pro Fuel Nation is a group match racing the smaller Nitro Harleys. Paul Watson runs the AHWS and he has partnered with Johnny Vickers, Hawaya Racing, to bring this fan-thrilling show to y’all. Pro Fuel machines are the 120 cubic inch motor, carbureted, high-gear Nitro Harleys, the quickest, fastest and loudest bikes at 710 that weekend I love Pro Fuel Harleys and they put on a show at 710. Paul had them racing for a cool $1,000 and a Championship Belt both Friday night and Saturday night. Since lots of teams run Johnny’s Derringer Motors and bikes, they can make lots of passes and they did. AHWS events are also partnered with The All Harley Drag Racing Association. Bill Rowe was at 710 with the AHDRA trailer and helping in a few ways. I even saw him suited up and racing that V-Rod. Paul puts on a fun weekend at the drag strip for fans and racers. Besides the quick Harleys roaring down the track, there was Dustin Chandler, Lenoir, NC, doing wheelies all the way down past the eight-mile markers. And I don’t mean little front tire skipping wheelies. Dustin points the front tire on that big Harley bagger toward the clouds! Back in the pits was even more to entertain folks. You could shop vendors or walk the pits talking to race teams. In the back corner, BackYard Baggers Joey Hensley held a Custom Bike show and a Sound Competition contest with multiple class winners. It is fascinating to see the custom baggers gathered back there. And the power plus sound quality that some can generate is impressive. Joey is also doing a series for the winners for a cool Championship Belt, and I heard Paul is adding some cash to the final’s winners. The All Harley World Shootout is about racing and action
on the strip and went until midnight both Friday and Saturday nights. Friday night Jim Martin, Palestine, IL, was the Pro Fuel Nation Winner. Lots of grudge matches and fast passes that night. Saturday the AHWS gets busy and is an all-day party at the drag strip for bikers. Andy Simon, who rides the undisputed quickest Pro Extreme Bagger, was teaching a Drag Racing Class down at the starting line. Professor Andy has many years’ experience drag racing Harleys with lots of wins, records and championships. For racers in his class, it was a memorable experience and helped them later that day in eliminations. Rain showers made us chill out and enjoy lunch. By afternoon the drag strip was ready to get busy with elimination rounds in a bunch of classes. With the threat of rain, we ran eliminations a little early. But that didn’t end the action. Folks roared down the 710 strip until midnight. Here are the Saturday winners: Street ET - Trevor Oxendine, Bagger ET - Victor Gotay, Non-Bagger - Chris Phipps, Pro Bagger - Victor Gotay, Pro ET - David Minton and Preston Bartlett ,Team LSR, won the Saturday Nitro Race. We also ran The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Minibike Madness second race at 710. More machines are coming to the strip. Guys are building bikes to fit our classes. Harley racers are getting into the Minibike Class. Folks are coming from far away too. Shawn Smith hauled 600 miles from Kentucky to race at 710. I think being down here in the swampy air at only 161 feet above sea level had his tune up way off. I’ve known Shawn for a while, and he can build some race winning minibikes. Jacob Boyett won the Super Stock Class, Roy Kentrolis took the Modified Class, and Nathan Ogiba won Pro Extreme. “Wow!!! Lumbee Racing fans, did we race and have fun at Continued On Page 40

710 Dragway?” exclaimed Paul Watson when asked for comments. “Harley race fans even with the rain on Friday mother nature didn’t slow the AHWS’s fans and racers down. Diehard Harley race fans in Robco with no exceptions. Track went hot at 7:15pm Friday and we raced until midnight.” “Saturday was a beautiful day, and we raced all day and when the race was over, we raced another 3 hours until midnight. Folks I literally had to shut down the track and we still had racers in the lanes.” “I would like to thank each of the racers first and foremost. Pro Fuel Nation continues to set records and amaze our fans with the Nitro bikes. Mad Monkey and I appreciate each and every one of you. We obviously cannot do what we do without the support of the fans and sponsors: Bison Leathers, Hawaya Racing, Mancave Customz, Sage Tailoring, J and J Family Construction, The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine, Fort
Bragg H-D, Simon Motorsports, 2nd Shift Cycles, Village Station, Strickland’s Mobile Services, StreetKing Motorsports, Arnolds Restaurant, DragBike. com, JT Norton.com, and a very special thanks that goes out to Sandy Scarlette, who owns Pat’s Body Shop and Scarlette’s Performance in Winston Salem, NC. She sponsored both the Friday and Saturday Nitro classes along with the Bagger ET class. She also picked up the Friday Nitro class at Farmington Dragway August 27 and 28.” “Also, we want to thank Joey “The Godfather” Hensley of BackYard Baggers. He put on a great Audio and Custom Bike Show. BYB never fails to amaze me. I would like to also thank Mr. Bill Rowe, owner of the AHDRA, who came out and supported us and even suited up and raced a little. The AHWS and the AHDRA are working hard collectively to bring our fans the best Harley racing you can find. Harley Dealers are getting involved and we are racing, riding, and even selling Harleys. “Lumbee Racing and Fort Bragg H-D ran a promotion giving away VIP passes to anyone who purchased a new or preowned Harley, and I am happy to say Fort Bragg H-D sold 24 Harleys in our allotted time of 10 days. Harley racing is America’s greatest sport with the greatest fans. See you at the Farm August 27 and 28,” concluded Paul with Lumbee Racing. The All Harley World Shootout is an all Harley race and is growing here in the Southeast especially with Pro Fuel Nation. Paul and Mad Monkey’s Branon White give their fans a good old-fashioned Harley Drag Race, plus modern activities to make it an all-day event. The next race is Farmington Dragway August 27 and 28. CENTRAL NC’S BIGGEST BIKE NIGHT
By Lincoln Infield
Lexington bike night has been around for a couple years. It started out as a main street bike night with some success. The reduction of available events in 2020 pushed the bike night away and when it was reborn in 2021 under a new Director, Jack Waters Jr. The bike night adopted a new location at Bull City Ciderworks and it was just the shot in the arm that the event needed. June 25th Uptown Lexington Bike Night descended on the Ciderworks for the second Bike Night of the year. This event was co-sponsored by Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group and The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and featured a Best Bike On The Lot contest by Lexington’s own Pandemonium Performance Custom Cycles. Riding High Harley-Davidson joined the squad and was set up by the parking lot, raffling off some cool H-D swag. Bull City Ciderworks is in a cool old industrial area and has that gasoline alley feel to it. Especially when the bikes started pouring in and the sound of the bikes ptown

were all you could hear. The parking lot is a good size but was getting filled up quick and even had bikes parking up the entrance way and spilling into adjacent lots. The sounds of the motorcycles were soon drowned out by the band Killing Fiction who were cranking out some killer rock and roll tunes. They rocked so hard that they blew the power fuse a few times! Once they got the power figured out, they continued to rock the stage putting out all your favorites from Metallica to the Cranberries. They seriously carried this party and I’d be happy to see them play at any bike rally. During set breaks, Jack Waters took the mic and announced the 50/50 winner who split the pot with the Cancer Services Of Davidson County. Both groups walked away with a wad of cash. Next up, Kary Blaylock of Pandemonium Performance Custom Cycles announced that Larry Melton’s show room clean ’75 Harley-Davidson Super Glide won the Best Bike On The Lot and the crispy $100 bill. Larry had bought the Super Glide as a basket case and took 3 years putting it together. They say good things come to those who wait, and in this case, that was spot on. It was a beautiful bike. Larry went above and beyond and donated the $100 to the Cancer Services of Davidson County. Hell of a move, Larry! The evening wound down with Killing Fiction bringing it home in style. It was a beautiful evening to hang out and party at the Ciderworks and I look forward to doing it again next month! Uptown Lexington Bike Nights co-hosted by Tom McGrath Motorcycle Law Group and The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine will be going through September with Friday night parties on August 13th and September 10th. Come on out to Bull City Ciderworks in Lexington and you might win yourself $100 for best bike on the lot. At the very least you will have a hell of a good time. See ya out there!

Riding For You! NC Spring Meet And Greet www.

fter a year of missed opportunities to get to-
gether with our Riding For You! families, we couldn’t wait to see everyone in person once again. Twice a year, once in the spring and again in the fall we get together to share awareness and spread the excitement behind RFY. Many years ago, the Jacksons came up with an incredible way to share through social media from bikers to special needs individuals and vice versa. So simple - just a little of your time doing what you already do, post a few pictures to your “Riding Buddy” and share your adventures. In this group, special needs individuals are paired with bikers and are encouraged to share their stories and experiences with each other, building their friendship and raising awareness. So we got together at CrossRoads Harley-Davidson to share what it’s all about. We grilled some hamburgers, hotdogs, and pork chops with all the toppings. Michael Lipford and
47
his staff opened their hearts and business for us, and we thank them for the support. The Jacksons have made their mark on social media with RFY, and it only continues to grow. Thank you, Twisted Covenant MSC members and guests for putting on an amazing event as we continue to support Jessie, the Jacksons, and all that RFY does! The inspiration of Princess Jessie, Merlie, David, the RFY families, and our “Riding Buddies” is what makes this all happen! Be sure to check it out on Facebook under the Riding for you! page and look for us again this Fall at another H-D dealership in the area.

By: Rose and Lloyd he American Military Family is a group of riders based out of Springers 405 Rocky Knoll Rd, Greensboro. Their mission statement. Is “To be an outreach and make an impact for people within their community and veterans that have fallen on hard times”. They definitely live up to their statement. They go on rides supporting the American Legion Riders and other military benefits showing their support. Saturday, June 26th they had a fundraiser at Springers. They were raffling off an AR-15, selling tickets at $25 each. There was a tremendous amount of fabulous food. Everything from hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, pulled pork, with all the side dishes, and fantastic desserts for $10 a plate. Each member was involved in bringing food or raffle and auction items, and giving their time to make this a success. There was a live band. The gun was won by Jessica Simpson. Many thanks to Jeff Schmidt for providing the band, the venue, and the great waitresses. This group is a great group, if you are interested in helping
your community. The American Military Family would be a very supportive group. Stop by Springers, one of the officers are usually around. Richard Childress is the owner/founder, Jackie Childress President, Danny Etchison VP, George Fenn Enforcer, Shane Whitney Sgt in arms, Jeff Schmidt Road Captain, Tracy Mitchell Treasurer, and Alex Adams Secretary. Any of these officers can give you more information. Or stop in any Sunday around 12:00, they take a ride to different, places of interest. Danea, Sean Clayton, Best Bike Winner: Mark Oates, Bob Karney & Lincoln Infield By: Lincoln Infield Photos By: Lincoln Infield and Lindsay Sellards he Full Throttle Magazine Bike Night Tour landed in Salisbury, NC at the Shark Tank Bar on June 15 with the intent of having a damn good time. We succeeded in that venture with a little help from our friends! The Shark Tank Bar is a cool pool hall / biker bar that is just outside of the downtown area of Salisbury, NC. The parking lot is paved, flat and got plenty of room to park motorcycles just out beside the covered patio section of the bar. Bar owner and bartender extraordinaire has a section of the parking lot roped off so that we can roam around with beverages in the parking lot and that’s where most of the bike night action happens.
This bike night, the Karney Law Firm teamed up with us to host a Best Bike on The Lot contest with the winner taking home $150 cash and a handsome trophy, just for riding out and having a big time with us. Well, you also have to have a killer bike! Bikes started rolling in around 6pm and the music was crankin’ from the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine tent. Lacie loves to have a big time and kept coming out and turning up the speaker till we were well past 11 on the dial. Karney Law Firm rep Danea was making good use of her time passing out Karney Swag and throwing cornhole with other bike nighters. The lot filled up quick, the drinks were going down smooth, and the night was raging on when I spied Sean Clayton and Bob Karney themselves ride on to the lot to join the party. We were having a great time hanging out with the crew from Jaybird’s Custom Cycles, a handful of Full Throttle Area Reps: Lindsay & Rick and Pat & David, the crew from Blue Collar Cycle Company and a lot of other friends when we noticed that the night was getting away from us. We still had to pick a “best bike” winner to take home some cold hard cash! Bob, Sean and I cruised the lot, deliberated back and forth on a few bikes and then came to a consensus. This wasn’t easy as there were a ton of bikes on the lot and a handful of standouts. Mark Oates pulled out the victory on his stellar 2002 Harley-Davidson Road King that he customized himself with killer sound system. Congrats Mark! The cool part of their being so many outstanding bikes to pick from is that I still have a few in mind for the next Full

4th Annual Marion Correctional Special Olympics Charity Run By: Wally Wersching
Alena (a corrections officer from Marion, NC). She invited me to a Jeep and Motorcycle Poker Run and Benefit Ride for the North Carolina Special Olympics as part of the “Law Enforcement Torch Run” for Special Olympics. The flyer stated that the meeting place would be the McDowell Square Shopping Center parking lot at the intersection of Rt 70 and Rt 221/226, with registration starting at 9:00AM, and kick-stands up at 10:00AM. For the $25.00 registration fee, each participant got a t-shirt, a door prize ticket, and directions for a very scenic 150 mile ride. The North Carolina “Law Enforcement Torch Run” for Special Olympics unites officers from law enforcement agencies, and corrections departments across the state in an effort to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics North Carolina. For nearly 40 years, members of law enforcement around the world have been the biggest supporters of Special Olympics as members of the “Law Enforcement Torch Run”. I met Alena in 2019 when they held their poker run to benefit the North Carolina Special Olympics. It was a lot of fun, and I met many dedicated people. I was looking forward to this year’s run. The ride up Rt 226 was very relaxing. It reminded me of when I worked in Marion, and rode up every day from Shelby for six years. It brought back many memories of an enjoyable time in my life. I arrived at the meeting place along with two other bikes. We talked for a while then learned that the meeting place was next to the ATM in the middle of the lot, so we rode over there. I placed a stack of Full Throttle magazines on the registration table, and talked with Alena for a while. She is very dedicated to raising money for the Special Olympics. I gave her a donation because I wasn’t going on the run. She gave me a list of directions for the run so I could write about it. I had been on all of the roads before – some many times because they are fun roads to ride. The first stop was Mountain received an email from
View Correctional on Amity Park Road. The second stop was at Sandee’s Restaurant in Newland. The third stop was up on The Parkway at the Julian Price Park. The fourth stop was the gas station in Jonas Ridge. The fifth and final stop was in the Village River Mall area at Queen City Appliances where the winner of the poker run would be announced. At every stop, they had drawings for the door prizes. Luckily they weren’t very large prizes so that they could be carried on a motorcycle, but they were quality gifts like gift cards from local places. As I walked around, I talked with many of the bikers who rode in. I met Joe from Forest City. He was also a US Navy veteran but he served for many more years than I did. We talked for quite a while as the lot was filling with bikes and Jeeps too! He had moved to Forest City a couple years ago, and was still learning the great places in the area. I told him about a few of the local attractions he could visit with his wife. A couple drove in pulling a trailer. I walked over to talk with them. They had just returned from Myrtle Beach, and the bike was covered by bugs. They brought the bike in the trailer so they could clean it before the ride. While I was talking with him, he looked at the crowd, and thought that he recognized an old friend from the military who he hadn’t seen in years. Later, he told me that it was his friend. You never know who you’ll meet at a poker run or other biker event. As it was getting close to 10:00AM, Alena called everybody together for run info, and the pre-ride prayer. Afterwards, everybody went to their bikes and Jeeps. The ride left as a group with the bikes leading the Jeeps. The participants could stop along the way to take pictures, and stop for gas. The directions given to every rider explained where the next stop would be so they could catch up with the group. It seemed like a very well organized event. I look forward to next year’s.

R.I.P. Mark Swaney Mark Swaney was a great son, brother, brother-in-law, family member and friend. If you ever had the chance to meet this man, consider yourself blessed. He had a big heart and was a very caring person. He is gone but never will be forgotten by many. I am very thankful that I got to spend the last two days of his life with him and many wonderful years. My brother was not only a great brother but my best friend. I remember several times riding down the highway and us riding side by side doing a fist bump and smiling because we were enjoying our time together. We enjoyed many things together and had many long talks that was good for us both. I was always and still am proud to call him my big brother. It is something we would do anything to change but God had a plan for him in heaven. Ride on brother in heaven until we meet again! BIKE NIGHT
SPRINGERS

By: Lincoln Infield
Bar in Greensboro is a regular spot for bikers to hang out, shoot a little pool, throw the ol cornhole, listen to live music or just kickback and hang out. Springers has a unique set up, not too far off the main road, tucked behind a building but not hard to find. Giving it a great hangout situation. June 29th The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group joined up to come out and host the bike night and throw a little cold hard cash around! The crowd rolled in and filled up the front row parking at Springers and was ready to party! Karen Hatchett, who was selling raffle tickets on some pretty awesome firearms, was set up next to Shannon, Tyler and Kim with McGrath’s. Naturally, Tyler rode in since he’s part of the “Law Firm That Rides”. Our local sales reps, Lloyd and Rose, came out and held down the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine booth and sold a ton of Charity Chopper Raffle Tickets for our upcoming Mayhem In Midway event. There was a solo guitar act inside the bar wailing away and he sounded really good, but it was a nice warm night and the party was on the patio. We had a speaker outside pumping some good old classic rock and the beers were flowing. I love summer evenings and this was the summary of all things good. Just a bunch of folks hanging out enjoying the warm weather, good tunes and checking out the good looking motorcycles that were cruisin’ in and out. As the evening got on it was time to choose the McGrath / Full Throttle Best Bike On The Lot and throw $150 at someone! Tyler, Shannon and pringers
I cruised the lot checking out the bikes and giving them a good once over. Once again, it came down to a really tough decision, but Scott Bowman’s 2016 H-D Road Glide, “Diabla” took the top honors and the cash prize. I was glad to see Scott win this one. Diabla is REALLY well put together with custom paint and a few bells and whistles. Scott had ridden out to a few of our Best Bike competitions and had been edged out in the past, but tonight was his night! Congrats Scott! Springers Bar bike night is every Tuesday night, but they are a biker owned and operated establishment that has great weekend events and weekly specials as well. Make sure you stop by and check them out, they just may become your new favorite bar! They are located at 405 Rocky Knoll Rd. Greensboro, NC. Make sure and tell em Full Throttle Magazine sent ya!

FACTORY H-D RIDERS KYLE AND TRAVIS WYMAN FINISH 1-2 AT ROAD AMERICA Harley-Davidson Racers Sweep Podium Spots
MILWAUKEE (June 14, 2021) – he Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle® factory racing team put a dominating stamp on the second round of the MotoAmerica King of the Baggers road racing series at its home track of Road America, in Elkhart Lake, Wis. Kyle Wyman, aboard the #33 factory-prepared Harley-Davidson Road Glide® Special powered by a modified Screamin’ Eagle® Milwaukee-Eight 131 Performance Crate Engine, set pole position, posted the quickest lap of the race, led every lap, and took the win by more than 15 seconds. His new teammate and brother Travis Wyman finished second in his debut on his #10 factory prepped Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special. Hayden Gillim took third and completed the podium sweep for H-D racers aboard his #79 Vance & Hines HarleyDavidson Street Glide. With the win, Kyle Wyman takes a commanding 16-point lead over Gillim in the MotoAmerica King of the Baggers series heading into the final round at Laguna Seca. Indian motorcycle racers Frankie Garcia and Tyler O’Hara sit in third and fourth, while Travis Wyman is fifth in points. “It’s pretty amazing, getting a chance to ride for the factory, is something that’s a dream come true,” said Kyle Wyman. “Now to win for the factory is incredible. I can’t thank HarleyDavidson enough and really all the individuals on the team

because these guys are so passionate. They deserve this win so much. These guys put in so much work. It just feels amazing. One-two for the Wyman brothers, one-two for Harley-Davidson, it couldn’t be any better.” “When I found out that my brother got this deal with Harley-Davidson, I was pretty excited for him but also jealous,” said Travis Wyman. “I actually made a joke to him that if they ever want a second rider to hit me up. And then within a month of having this program he asked me if I wanted to join the team. Through testing Kyle was quicker than me, but I knew that if we got the right set up, I would have a shot at the podium, and that was my goal for the weekend. Each time I got on the bike I felt more comfortable. With Kyle finishing first and me finishing second, it’s an accelerated dream come true for both of us.” Kyle and Travis Wyman are the sons of Kim Wyman, owner of Harv’s Harley-Davidson in Macedon, N.Y., and grew up around HarleyDavidson and flat track racing. “All of us at Harley-Davidson are very proud of Kyle and Travis, and the dedicated team of Harley-Davidson engineers who developed this program entirely in-house in addition to their everyday assignments,” said Jochen Zeitz, chairman, president, and CEO Harley-Davidson. What kind of hope do we hope to find in this world? This world needs a lot of prayers. My hope is to be the kind of mom, friend that I’m supposed to be. My hope is living for God and doing the best I can for Him. I’m human and I fail daily. But you know we have a God that I can call on at any time and He’ll help me. Psalm 42: 1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for you, oh God. My soul knew I needed God. We don’t get it by just going to church. The more we hunger (for God), the better we can minister to others. Psalm 42:2 My soul thirst for God, for the living Gods, When shall I come and appear before God? Our friends and religious people are going to down us, but that’s okay, especially when things go wrong. As we look at things now, it looks like the evil is winning, that just means we need to get our focus back on God. My hope is still on God. He is who He says He is and what He says He does. We need to praise Him at all times, even when things ain’t going our way. Don’t say you hope, you should have your hope in the Lord. Your hope is in God and nothing else. If you have questions read the Bible, God is still on the throne. Christians are giving up and getting discouraged instead of
spending time with God and believing in Him. Christians and non-Christians, God is putting us to the test. People are doing their own things, because not enough ministering going on. Ecclesiastes 9:4 But for him who is joined to all the living, there is hope for a living dog is better than a dead lion. Hope shows up at your darkest moment. In the darkest moment, God is still there. Romans 5:1 Therefore having been justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Your hope is in your relationship with God. You may quit and forget about God, but he won’t forget about you. Romans 15:13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

ring, so he hurried to open the door. When he opened the door, there stood Grandma’s minister. The minister said, “Hello, son, is your Grandma home?” The little boy replied, “Yeah, she’s in the bedroom bangin’ her boyfriend.” A police recruit was asked during the exam, “What would you do if you had to arrest your own mother?” He answered, “Call for backup.”
When God created the dog he said, “Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years.” The dog said, “That’s a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I’ll give you back the other ten?” And God saw it was good. When God created the monkey he said, “Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I’ll give you a twenty-year life span.” The monkey said, “Monkey tricks for twenty years? That’s a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the dog did?” And God, again saw it was good. When God created the cow he said, “You must go into the field with the farmer all day long, work under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer’s family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years.” The cow said, “That’s kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. How about twenty and I’ll give back the other forty?” And God agreed it was good. When God created man he said, “Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I’ll give you twenty years.” But man said, “Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty plus the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back? That makes eighty years, okay?” God agreed, and that is why for our first twenty years, we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years, we slave in the sun to support our family. For the next ten years, we look like a wizened monkey and do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last ten years, we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.

After a minute or so, it becomes apparent that she is in real distress. One of the hillbillies looks at her and says, “Kin ye swaller?” The woman shakes her head no. Then he asks, “Kin ya breathe?” The woman begins to turn blue and shakes her head no. The hillbilly walks over to the woman, lifts up her dress, yanks down her drawers and quickly gives her right butt cheek a lick with his tongue. The woman is so shocked that she has a violent spasm and the obstruction flies out of her mouth. As she begins to breathe again, the hillbilly walks slowly back to his table. His buddy says, “Ya know, I’d heerd of that there ‘Hind Lick Maneuver’, but ain’t never seed anybody do it.” A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to “Honor thy father and thy mother,” she asked, “Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?” Without missing a beat, one little boy answered, “Thou shall not kill.” A 5-year old boy went to visit his grandmother one day. While playing with his toys in her bedroom while grandma was dusting the furniture, he looked up and said, “Grandma, how come you don’t have a boyfriend?” Grandma replied, “Honey, my TV is my boyfriend. I can sit in my bedroom and watch it all day long. The TV evangelists keep me company and make me feel good. The comedies make me laugh. I’m so happy with my TV as my boyfriend.” Grandma turned on the TV and the picture was horrible. She started adjusting the knobs trying to get the picture in focus. Frustrated, she started hitting on the backside of the TV, hoping to fix the problem. The little boy heard the doorbell
“Bless me Father, for I have sinned. I have been with a loose girl.” The priest asks, “Is that you, little Joey Pagano?” “Yes, Father, it is.” “And who was the girl you were with?” “I can’t tell you, Father. I don’t want to ruin her reputation.” “Well, Joey, I’m sure to find out her name sooner or later so you may as well tell me now. Was it Tina Minetti?” “I cannot say.” “Was it Teresa Mazzarelli?” “I’ll never tell.” “Was it Nina Capelli?” “I’m sorry, but I cannot name her.” “Was it Cathy Piriano?” “My lips are sealed.” “Was it Rosa DiAngelo, then?” “Please, Father! I cannot tell you.” The priest sighs in frustration. “You’re very tight lipped, and I admire that. But you’ve sinned and must atone. You cannot be an altar boy now for 4 months. Now you go and behave yourself.” Joey walks back to his pew, and his friend Franco slides over and whispers, “What’d you get?” “Four months’ vacation and five good leads!” A man and his wife are sound asleep when the phone rings. The man picks up, listens for a second and says, “How the hell would I know, you idiot? I’m not a weatherman,” before slamming down the receiver. “Who was that?” asks his wife. “Wrong number. It was some jerk asking if the coast was clear.”
On a flight getting ready to depart for Portland, Jack was sitting on the plane when a guy took the seat beside him. The guy was an emotional wreck, pale, hands shaking, moaning in fear. “What’s the matter?” Jack asked. “I’ve been transferred to Portland, there’s crazy people there. They’ve got lots of shootings, gangs, race riots, drugs, poor public schools, and the highest crime rate.” Jack replied, “I’ve lived in Portland all my life. It’s not as bad as the media says. Find a nice home, go to work, mind your own business, and enroll your kids in a nice private school. It’s as safe a place as anywhere in the world.” The guy relaxed and stopped shaking and said, “Oh, thank you. I’ve been worried to death. But if you live there and say it’s OK, I’ll take your word for it. What do you do for a living?” “Me?” said Jack, “I’m a tail gunner on a Budweiser truck.”
A good ol’ Alabama boy won a bass boat in a raffle drawing. He brought it home and his wife looks at him and says, “What you gonna do with that? There ain’t no water deep enough to float a boat within 100 miles of here.” He says, “I won it and I’m gonna keep it.” His brother came over to visit several days later. He sees the wife and asks where his brother is. She says, “He’s out there in his bass boat”, pointing to the field behind the house. The brother heads out behind the house and sees his brother sitting in a bass boat with a fishing rod in his hand down in the middle of a big field. He yells out to him, “What are you doing?” His brother replies, “I’m fishing. What does it look like I’m doing?” His brother yells, “It’s people like you that give people from Alabama a bad name, makin’ everybody think we is stupid. If I could swim, I’d come out there and whip your ass!”
