e have gotten through the doldrums of January, the Easyriders Bike Show, and are into February. Are you up for it? We kick off the riding season with The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine 17th Attempt, Almost A Tradition, Pre Daytona, Valentine’s Day, Oyster Roast, and Party. This year Locked & Loaded in Garner, NC will host the party. If you like wings, oysters, beer, rock n roll music, big screen TVs, and diamond heart pendants, you gotta be there on February 14th. Some times the weather has been awful, but all that does is keep the crybabies at home. The rest of us PARTY DOWN! This party kicks off the riding season in the Carolinas. It is a pre Daytona/ Valentine’s Day party. We raffle off a 51” flat screen TV to watch the big race on and the diamond heart pendant is sure to please some lucky lady on Valentine’s Day. This event has grown exponentially over the past several years and has become one of the biggest parties in the Carolinas. We put it on, but you make it great! The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine is all about having fun and that is what this party is about. There will be event T-shirts and for $20 you get what we call “The Deal Of The Day” – a T-shirt and 5 raffle tickets. These T-shirts are very popular and always sell out, so get one as soon as you arrive to avoid being left out. There will be vendors, too. If you are interested in setting up, go to Locked & Loaded Fb page and message them Everybody is welcome unless you have a bad attitude or are under 21. DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN - NO EXCEPTIONS. Don’t even think about it. This is an adult party. All we can do at this point is hope for good weather. We hope to see you at The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine 17th Attempt, Almost A Tradition, Pre Daytona, Valentine’s Day, Oyster Roast, and Party February 14th at Locked & Loaded in Garner, NC Oooops..... We made a slight error in our January issue. In an article named Paying It Forward submitted by Gabby Mintz, we inadvertently called the 20th Annual Gaston County Toy Run For Kids the 20th Annual Gaston County Concerned Bikers Association Toy Run. While Gaston County CBA supports the Gaston County Toy Run For Kids, it is not their event. We apologize for the error.

Don Tilley’s Memorial Birthday Bash Story and photo by Alan Dockery He may be gone, but Don Tilley will live on forever in the hearts of riders across the country. Hundreds of us met at Tilley Harley-Davidson in Statesville, NC, on a recent Saturday for what would have been Don’s 79th birthday celebration. We didn’t come together to cry about the friend and hero we lost in an August motorcycle accident on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We were there to remember what a great man he was and tell stories of riding with Don. We also prayed for Robinette who is rehabbing from major injuries she suffered in the accident. Several NASCAR stars joined us and gladly signed autographs and memorabilia for the fans. For much of my life, Tilley H-D was where NASCAR folks bought their new bikes and had them serviced. Don also built and maintained lots of race bikes that I cheered on as they whipped the competition. Some of those bikes were on display and we even took a couple outside to fire them up for the crowd. There were several guys at the autograph table with lots of Don Tilley stories to share. They included: Kyle Petty, racer and TV commentator, Donnie Allison, USAC and NASCAR driver, Harry Gant, NASCAR racer, Buddy Parrott, crew chief for several famous racers and teams, Waddell Wilson, engine builder and crew chief, John Cartner, 40-year Tilley H-D employee, Gene Church who rode some of Don’s race bikes for many years. I’ll share some of their stories here. “One of my best memories recently was going to Hickory Motor Speedway for test sessions with Don’s grandson Chandler,” said Donnie Allison. “It was good to see how involved he was with Chandler’s racing. We were very, very close friends and often talked about everything; motorcycles, cars, friends. Don was truly a very good person.” When y’all are at the circle tracks this summer, be sure to cheer for Don’s grandsons, Chandler LeVan and Kyle Pierce. “Don was working for my father Nobody Knew (Richard) at Petty Enterprises when I The Way was young,” Kyle Petty said. “We were Like Don. coming back from Daytona in 1971 or 72. (Kyle was about 12 years old) I was riding with the crew guys and we stopped at a rest area. I went
to get a Coke and a guy standing there said, ‘Hey, what’s your name?’ I said, ‘Who needs to know?’ He said, ‘You one of them Petty boys? You Richard’s boy Kyle?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ He said, ‘You tell your daddy you saw Don Tilley.’ The next day I told dad I saw Don Tilley. He was on an old motorcycle coming up the highway. Dad said, ‘Yep that’s Don.’ When I bought my first bike at 16 or 17 I came straight to Don’s. I always bought motorcycles from Don.” Kyle Petty is also well known for his Charity Ride Across America. This ride has become one of the most popular and successful charity events in the country. It supports Victory Junction in Randleman, NC, enriching the lives of children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. “It was me, Don, Harry, Click Baldwin, Robin Pemberton, Waddell, Jim, not sure who all was riding out to the race with us when we came up with the idea for the charity ride. Don was part of the group who came up with the idea and always lead us on the ride,” Petty said. Kyle and others talk about Don like he was a human atlas seeming to know every road in America. “Nobody knew the way like Don,” Petty said. “I could be out in West Texas, New Mexico, Utah, wherever and get to a crossroads that I couldn’t find on the map. I’d call Don tell him where I was and he’d start telling me things like, ‘Turn left. Go to the Texaco station and hang a right. That’ll take you back to where you need to be.’ Sure enough he was right. Don knew the roads and knew this country like nobody I’ve ever messed with in my life. Everywhere you wanted to go he had been and knew the people there.” “I started riding with Don in the early 80’s,” Snow Harry Gant, who drove the Skoal Bandit Couldn’t car, said. “I’ve ridden about 750,000 miles. I Stop Don. worked for Skoal for years after I quit racing and rode everywhere then. I logged 35,000 miles a year. So I figure I rode about 400,000 with Don.” “We were going to California, up above Redding, last year and we rode out through there across the desert and got up on Route 66,” Gant said. “Jumped off there and headed up through Nevada to Lake Tahoe planning to cross over the

mountains the next day. It was cold, real cold. We checked into a big ole Holiday Inn. When we got up the next morning there was snow from the room all the way to our motorcycles.” Snow didn’t stop Don. “The year before we crossed Donner Pass in a snow storm. Don said, ‘Just don’t give it no gas and you’ll come right up this mountain.’ Twenty miles up the mountain in the snow. How are ya gonna make it up the mountain without giving it gas. He kept hollering on the radio, ‘Don’t give it no gas.’ My windshield had so much snow on it I couldn’t see and had to keep scraping it off. Then it was turning to ice. We started off that day with a big cloud hanging over the mountain. Cars coming down with snow on them and there was a big ole sign flashing ‘Chains Only.’ At the gas station a guy told us the best thing to do was park them motorsickles and get a hotel. Don knew we could be stuck there for a week if we parked and said he’d get us over the mountain. He made us a deal to head up the mountain and if it gets too bad we’ll turn around. I fell in behind a tractor-trailer and rode in his tracks. The snow would get six, eight, ten inches deep. We made it up and Don was sitting there at the top waiting for us. Going down the other side into California it was warm. I told Don, don’t ask me to take the Northern route no more.” “There’s all kinds of Don Tilley stories,” said Buddy Parrott, North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame inductee. “One I remember the most. On our annual ride to Florida, coming home we stopped for the night at a little motel in Georgia. When we got up it was raining so hard you couldn’t see the Huddle
House across the street. Well Big Jim Blackwelder and I were trying to make the breakfast last as long as we could. Don was getting fidgety and said, “We gotta go”. I told him I didn’t have any rain gear. He looked at me like I was crazy. And said go down the road to Wal-Mart and get you one of those plastic bag things then we can stop later and get you real rain gear. I went back to the motel and got dressed in all my full rain suit. I had everything. When I went outside Don gave that look that he always used. Everybody broke out laughing. It was one time I finally pulled something on him.” “There are thousands of good Don Tilley stories. They were all good and all fun. We all miss him,” Parrott said. “I rode with Don all over the United He Might States, Canada, and Nova Scotia”, said Ride A Little Waddell Wilson, recipient of the Golden Fast, Too Wrench Award from the North Carolina Stock Car Racing Hall of Fame. “One thing I remember was, we were up in the mountains one time and he told us, ‘See that curve down there. The sign says 15 miles an hour. You always double it. If it’s 15 you do 30. If it’s 25 you do 50. Don was more than an excellent rider. I remember the first time we did the Manheim Ride out West. Don, Harry and I took off on the country two-lane road. We went about two miles, I looked in the rear view mirror and there wasn’t nobody behind us. They said, ‘You boys from Carolina ride a little fast don’t you.’” “I never met anybody who loved a challenge like Don did. It CONTINUED ON PG 14

never got bad enough; rain, snow, sleet. We rode those bikes in all kinds of conditions. I’m really going to miss not riding to Daytona with him this year,” Wilson said. Gene Church raced for Don for about 16 years. He started when he was 13 or 14 racing on local flat tracks. Church made a name for himself and thrilled us Harley racing fans when he whipped the rest of the world with Lucifer’s Hammer. “I was racing as an amateur when I met Don,” Church said. “I was having trouble with our Ossas blowing up. He put a Harley motor in my DMR frame. That’s the bike I got my novice points on. The next year he bought me an XR 750 and I rode that for a couple years earning a national number. In 1983 we got into road racing with Lucifer’s Hammer. I rode it up through 1989.” “I had no experience road racing,” Church said. “So I just made the bike go from here to there as fast as I could.” For a few years Don and Gene dominated their class in AMA road racing. They earned more than a dozen wins and took the championship title three years in a row. “One thing about racing for Don. I never had to worry about making the starting grid. You’d be there somehow or another.” “Wow! What a great day for a great man!” said Terry LeVan on behalf of Tilley H-D. “So many people to thank. Thanks to Kyle Petty, Donnie Allison, Harry Gant, Waddell Wilson, Buddy Parrott, John Cartner, and Gene Church, for coming out and giving us their time to help celebrate Don’s birthday. A big “thank you” to all the employees at Tilley’s for making this a great day. I know how hard you all worked on it and I thank you all. Thanks to the Statesville H.O.G. Chapter for helping sell the raffle tickets on the bike we are giving away. And most of all I want to thank all the people and customers and friends of Tilley’s that showed up to help us celebrate Don’s birthday. Thank you all for choosing Tilley’s and your business and friendships are so valued to us. Once again from the bottom of my heart, thank you to all that had a part of this great day. For a great man!”

Elvis’ Birthday Party At Down Home Harley-Davidson
By: Scott Wicker There have been a lot of interesting events going on at Down Home Harley-Davidson recently and on Saturday, January 10th, they really out did themselves. They held a birthday celebration for none other than the KING himself, ELVIS! The dealership was overflowing, to say the least, with Elvis fans and well-wishers. The Burlington H.O.G. Chapter had its Famous Grill’n and Chill’n going on and there were even some folks serving up Elvis’ Favorite Dish. Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches. Folks let me say this! They were GOOD! Baked Goods were on sale and we had an Elvis or two present to entertain us too. Probably the big hit of the day was the opportunity, for the first 200 people to register, of winning a 2015 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special. All 200 contestants had to roll 6 dice. Each dice had one letter that was needed to spell H-A-R-L-E-Y. Everyone had to throw the dice down a specially made table and hit the backboard with all 6 dice. If the letters that spell HARLEY were standing face up. That person was the winner of the 2015 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special.

All the dice were in a cup and were sent down the alleyway of the table simultaneously. There were some that got pretty close at the start. One young lady had the A-R-L-E. All she was lacking was the H and the Y. So close! She was a little disappointed, but glad she had gotten the opportunity. Several people had three of the six letters, but in the end, no one walked away with the Road Glide. The day would not have been complete with out having an appearance by the honoree of the day, ELVIS! No, it really wasn’t Elvis himself, but folks, this man was the closest I’ve ever seen. He rolled off several of Elvis’ trademark tunes and had the girls front row center swooning. I hope Down Home has this event again. It was a Big Hit!! A lot of great events and happenings are coming up at Down Home Harley-Davidson. The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar will have all of the events listed coming up in the spring. Don’t miss them! We would like to thank everyone at Down Home Harley-Davidson for their hospitality and for another great event. Thanks to everyone that came out and supported Down Home HarleyDavidson and the Burlington H.O.G. Chapter. Stay Tuned! We just may have someone win and ride away on a new HarleyDavidson next time? Remember! Ride Safe!

The Top Of The Rock is accessible by boat, vehicle, or bike, so drop on by and party a while. See you there. Pictures are viewable on www. FullThrottleMagazine.com events/photo page.
FEBRUARY BAND SCHEDULE
By: dpapabear Wednesday night, Dec 31st, the Top Of The Rock Sports Bar & Night Club located on High Rock Lake hosted a New Year’s Eve party. They offered a variety of finger food snacks and had lots of party favors and noisemakers ready to ring in the New Year at midnight. One of the local favorite bands, Soakin Wet, played their favorite tunes throughout the evening for everyone’s listening enjoyment as well as dancing with your sweetheart. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, whether catching up from the last time they got together or making plans for the coming year. The drinks were flowing and the atmosphere was very friendly and easygoing. A little before midnight, Jenna of the Soakin Wet band, went around the room and asked some of the patrons about their new year’s resolutions and then the countdown to midnight started with everyone making a lot of noise, and hugging and kissing their sweethearts

Rolling Thunder Flapjack Fundraiser
By: Caroline I think that it is great that Winston-Salem has its own Rolling Thunder Chapter. In addition to being just a great group of folks, they do so much to proactively educate and support MIA/POW issues. I thought that it was good that Applebee’s on Patterson Avenue in Winston-Salem allowed them to hold Flapjack Fundraiser at their restaurant on Saturday morning, January 10. I was glad I got there early, because it was well attended to say the least! These folks put on a great breakfast serving a plate of pancakes, sausage, coffee, and juice to all who attended for just $7. Not only was the food good, but Rolling Thunder Chapter 6 members are a great, friendly group! I enjoyed meeting the ones I did not know and talking to those I do know! It was great to see all of them and I hope to hear of more of their events this year. You can learn more about them at http://RollingThunder-NC6.com or on Facebook.

Your Event!
By: Caroline The American Legion Riders had a great year with their bike nights on the second Friday of the month during the warmer part of the year. They decided to continue the event on January 9th this year. Realizing that this was one of the coldest days of the season, a warmer style event was in order. The Legion members brought in their favorite soups, chili and stews for a Crockpot Palooza! With temperatures in the teens, that was definitely a hit. To provide some entertainment, local talent, Joey Whitaker was on hand to play and sing a huge variety of pop, country, and rock hits. Joey certainly adds a great deal to a festive, happy atmosphere. Post 55 on Miller Street in Winston-Salem will definitely be having more events with the help of the ALR that are open to everyone including the popular Bike Night this spring. Stay tuned for more information in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar and American Legion Riders Post 55 on Facebook.

17th Attempt Fear Of February Party By: Mark Infield Has January been rather flat this year or is it just me? We went to the Easyriders Bike Show and it was great to see everyone again this year. Now I want to give you a “heads up” on a party that you do not have to pay to get in – The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine 17th Attempt, Almost A Tradition, Pre Daytona, Valentine’s Day, Oyster Roast, and Party. Since the weather is almost always awful, we call it the Fear Of February Party. We have had rain, sideways blowing snow, and lately some pretty nice days, so the tradition continues with the 17th attempt. This year, Locked & Loaded will host the event on February 14th at their brand new location at 305 McCormick Street in Garner, NC from noon to 6pm. This is a great location that is just off US70 about a mile south of I-40 exit 298A. This used to be a Texas Steakhouse, so they have lots of room and have renovated the interior to suit our lifestyle. Locked & Loaded has all ABC permits and a full kitchen so you can get anything you want. Krystal Blade will be providing the music. This year, as in the past couple of years, the Karney Law Firm will sponsor the oysters and be there with Karney Law calendars, while Ray Price Harley-Davidson will sponsor the wings. Tim Nall of A & M Cranes helps out with the cooking and by providing the grill. Hayes Jewelers of Lexington sponsors the diamond heart pendant and The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine is responsible for the 50” Flat Screen TV that will go home with some lucky person. Our “Deal of the Day”, is an event t-shirt and 5 raffle tickets, will be available, too. These ALWAYS sell out, so get yours early. We always bring “Little Orifice Annie” along and play a bike game called “Hitter In The Shitter”. The object is to give Annie a poke with a pool noodle from a moving motorcycle. I think you get the idea. If you haven’t seen this one, you gotta be there. We even provide a mini bike so everyone who wants to can play. There are 4 motels within walking distance, so come on and have a big time. Spend the night and do not worry about getting home or a DUI. Tell them that you are coming for The

We say attempt because each year, we attempt to pull this off and so far we have been successful 15 out of 16 times. This is an adult venue. Everyone is welcome EXCEPT if you are under 21 years old. NO EXCEPTIONS. All of this, and, if we are lucky, moderate temperatures and some sunshine, will make the premiere riding season kick off event one huge party.

Nazareth Children’s Home Christmas Party And Toy Run
By: Darby Dillard I’ve had time to catch my breath and reflect on the wonderful party/toy run we had at Nazareth Children’s Home. It was truly a great day! Thanks to many individual volunteers, along with some small businesses. The combination of which made this Christmas party/toy run a success. The weather in the greater Charlotte area couldn’t have been any better with clear skies and temperatures in the fifties. It was perfect December riding weather. The week leading up to 12-13-14 started getting busier by the day. With phone calls from many caring people (participating for the first time) just looking for answers on how to help. We are blessed to have many regular supporters, but it’s always a blessing to have newcomers join in on the fun. I’d like to thank Speedway H-D. They help throughout the year with the quarterly birthday parties and that is where we always start our ride. Food Lion stepped up in a big way supplying the ham, turkey, and soda. The bulk of the food came from Sara Lee and Simpson Egg Company. More importantly though, the number of volunteers that stepped forward was the amazing part. Many individuals volunteered with all of the sides and trimmings. They are numerous and therefore I can’t possibly list them all, because I’d inevitably fail to mention

someone and I thank you all very much! Please don’t think that with the help we receive from these fine companies that we have it made. It was made possible because of individuals stepping forward and asking. And therefore we’ll be asking for your participation in the months to come in 2015. I’d like to recognize SouthEnd Charities, a new group for pitching in in a big way. Some members had been before, but the group pitched in and had a big influence in filling out the Wish List. Other companies and groups include, Smiley’s Cycle Works (Of Rockwell) Law Petroleum, Carolina Site Works (Jackie cooked all of the meat. Thank you for that huge amount of support!), Wanda’s Starglazer and Moonwalk Company, The Buffalo Troopers, Fire and Iron MC, and of course our “Rockwell Gang”! Thanks goes to Smiley’s Cycle (of Charlotte), Ben’s VTwins, Iron Horse Motorcycles, Halligan’s Ale House, and Tailgaters for helping to spread the word! I’d also like to mention something very special. There were some that couldn’t come, but still wanted to help. One family was dealing with some medical issues along with other personal problems. Yet they decided to donate to the children instead of buying gifts for their family members this year. CONTINUED ON PG 36

CONTINUED FROM PG 35 That was very special. And there were four other people that donated as well who couldn’t come. With these donations, my wife Betty and her friends were able to purchase over $600 in gifts from the list. And thanks to First Freewill Baptist Church of China Grove and a Sunday School class from Hickory Grove Baptist in Charlotte. Also a big shout out goes to Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office, Concord Police Department, Rockwell Rural Fire Department, Boston Heights Fire Department, and Granite Quarry/Faith Police Department for the escort. They make life a lot easier for the riders. Please feel free to let the Sheriff of Cabarrus County and the Chiefs of these other departments know what a great job they all did! To top the weekend off, my wife Betty works for Horizon Lines. The company was gracious enough to give Betty all of their tickets to the Panthers game against Tampa Bay. So along with Betty and myself, two chaperones from the home and the ten most deserving children with the best behavior were able to go to the game. It was awesome. The whole weekend was FANTASTIC!! If you’ve never participated, I ask you to consider joining us in the future. The blessing of reaching out to these children is worth more than you could ever imagine. Thank you and God bless!

BIKE NIGHT EVERY THURSDAY
7PM UNTIL • LIVE MUSIC FREE FOOD TIL IT’S ALL GONE! By: Samantha Hayes Even though Saturday January 3rd was cold and rainy, riders still toughed it out and came in to Ray Price Harley-Davidson’s Screamin’ Eagle Seminar. The seminar informed riders of engine and performance upgrades that are available for their bikes to get more torque and power. It also showed riders the different stage performance kits that are available. After the seminar, there was a question and answer period, a tour of the service department, and a chance to look at the Dyno Room to see where all of the magic happens. Seminars are held every Saturday at 10:30 A.M. in February and the upcoming seminars are Maintenance You Can Do Yourself, See and Be Seen, Planning for the Big Trip, and Custom Creations. BidHarley.com’s Swap Meet By: Jesse Spindler It was a cold, rainy, winter day this past December 6th, and it was their first “Customer Appreciation/Motorcycle Parts Swap Meet” scheduled with our friends at BidHarley. com’s motorcycle center on I-40 in Statesville, NC. Jesse Spindler with BidHarley.com said, “Over the past couple of years we’ve had many folks tell us what a great place this would be for a motorcycle flea market, also home to Southern Truck And Equipment, our facility is 4 acres, completely paved, and has great visibility from I-40, so anyone can clean out their garage, load up their trunks or pick ups and sell their stuff. We will have designated spots for each vehicle, and plenty of motorcycle parking. We’re not charging anyone to come and sell, and we’ll have some motorcycle vendors, bike builders, food, music, etc, etc”.
When I arrived at the dealership that day I was most impressed with the amount of people that showed up in the pouring rain! I can only guess how awesome this event will be on a nice sunny day. Starting February 7th, and thereafter on the first Saturday of every month, BidHarley.com is going to host another motorcycle parts/apparel flea market type event at their 4 acre dealership right off the highway. I can tell the BidHarley.com staff has their sites set on this monthly gathering of the fellow biker community and are very excited about the huge potential overall. Spirits were high, even in the pouring rain, and we’re all hoping that on February 7th skies will be clear! It starts at 10am and lasts till 3pm. I know I wont miss it! For more information you can call Jesse at 704-202-3262.

ABATE Of SC Lobby Day 2015
By: Chad W. Fuller On January 13th, ABATE of SC was present at the Opening Day of the SC General Assembly. It is called Lobby Day and the members of ABATE of SC met for a free breakfast at Carolina Ale House and then were shuttled to the State House. Once there, the members met at the Calhoun Statue and then dispersed to visit with legislators and discuss legislation of interest to SC motorcyclists. Around 1:30 shuttles carried the members back to the Carolina Ale House for an awards party and a free lunch hosted by Tom McGrath Motorcycle Law Firm. ABATE would like to thank all that participated and those that supported our 2015 Lobby Day. All that attended had a good time. I know that I did. We can build on this if you share your experience with your fellow members. We can easily double our numbers if everyone brings just one more member with them next year. Where can you be fed breakfast and lunch with the added experience of meeting our law makers in one day? Lets all get involved! We would like to think of this as our yearly super bowl. SC Governor, Nikki Haley is quoted as saying, “We enjoyed

speaking with our friends from ABATE this morning. They are one of the most active grass root organizations when it comes to legislation on individual rights and freedoms. Thank you for your constant support! Great seeing all of you today.” ABATE of SC works hard at building a reputation within the State House walls. We do this with everyone’s help and it is easy when we have a well behaved group show up in numbers. Pappy always said “You catch more flies with honey than vinegar”. We know it is hard at times to put out the honey when all you can think is vinegar. We impressed some law makers this year per this invitation: “Rita Allison would like to invite ABATE of South Carolina to speak to the Full House Education and Public Works Committee. We are having the major players in Transportation and Higher Education so the Education and Public Works Committee members (esp. the new ones) can become familiar with the relevant players.” The above invitation indicates how important it is to have a good showing during Lobby Day. ABATE is currently working with the Mrs. Allison’s staff to draft the new moped legislation and is also working to stop H3040. H3040 would require child safety restraint devices to be placed on motorcycles for children under the age of 8. As the legislative season progresses more bills effecting motorcyclists are sure to be filed. We can’t say enough good things for the job that our members do to support our individual rights and liberty. Chad W. Mandatory Helmet Law Fight in California By: Rob Keller - Cycle Source Mag A Message From Freedom Fighter John “Rogue” Herlihy To Support Those Who Defend Your Rights. Our first amendment rights have been put to the test these past few months. As organized protests and some maybe not so organized have been making the headlines and news reels lately, I have been thinking a lot about our original Freedom Fighters that have done so much to protect our motorcycle rights in the past. Beginning in the early 1970’s, they were the men and women that organized and stood on the front lines in Washington, DC to protest and lobby against mandatory helmet laws and biker rights. They also saved the chopper scene of the 1970’s by hiring an engineering firm to test aftermarket extended front ends and other custom made parts so that they would pass federal mandates for safety. I can’t imagine the world without the history of the 70’s chopper scene. We are fortunate today to have some of these same people watching our backs today and truly miss those that have passed. Many of these original Freedom Fighters are working with a Motorcycle Rights Organization known as B.O.L.T. - Bikers of Lesser Tolerance. Their mission statement is the “NO COMPROMISE” biker rights collective. We oppose discrimination against bikers and other motorcyclists. Known, primarily, for opposition to government-mandated motorcycle helmet laws, we lawfully fight discrimination on all fronts, including legislative buildings, courtrooms, and the streets. Membership is limited to proven freedom fighters who become known to us as a result of their actions, using a nomination and acceptance process. Friends and supporters are welcome here, to learn and share. www.boltusa.org. This select group of our peers are proactive in the court system and spend much of their time fighting to repeal laws that make it passed our other Motorcycle Rights Organizations. It is much harder to have a law repealed so their work is diligent and requires much time and money. Currently they are working on an important issue for the state of California. The following is an email I received from my mentor and (Sturgis Motorcycle Museum’s) Hall Of Fame Freedom Fighter John “Rogue” Herlihy. I am requesting all who read this to go to the BOLT of California website at www.BOLTofCA.com and read what is going on with the Mandatory Helmet Law Fight in California. Whether or not you wear a helmet, this fight and the court cases are important because freedom of choice is a serious issue like many of the other laws and actions that single out motorcyclists and it is wrong. I am also asking you to click on the blue PayPal DONATE link you will find as you scroll down. I realize that times are

The money raised will be used to fight for your rights. Thank You for whatever you can do to help those fighting for you. ROGUE We are all in this fight together and the bikers that support B.O.L.T. are taking care of our future. B.O.L.T. has been there for us and we need to be there for them. You better believe that they are constantly researching laws and the language written in them and are watching out for our best interests. It is a constant battle when you are trying to take care of 50 individual states and a federal government all at the same time. Remember that the members of B.O.L.T. do this work on a volunteer basis and this is not their regular job. This is what they do in their spare time. That’s dedication! Thanks for your support!

Motorcycle Queen Of Miami
April 18-26, 2015
REVISED DATE September 16-20, 2015
By: WildThing Bessie Stringfield was once quoted as saying, “I just crank up a Harley and it talks to me. In my mind, it was the only motorcycle ever made.” And crank it up she did, this fiercely independent free spirited woman rode Harleys when it wasn’t considered ‘ladylike’, rode several cross country solo tours, and even rode the walls of a motordrome in a carnival show. Born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1911, Bessie’s Dutch Caucasian mother died while she was an infant and her Jamaican father abandoned her when she was five. She was then adopted by a wealthy Irish couple in Boston who gave her whatever she wanted. Throughout her life, Bessie drew courage from two things, her Catholic faith in Jesus Christ, whom she called ‘The Man Upstairs’ and the values she learned from her adoptive mother. When Bessie was sixteen, she decided she wanted a motorcycle, even though good girls don’t ride motorcycles, and she got it without knowing how to ride. She wrote letters to ‘The Man Upstairs’, tucked them under her pillow and asked Him to teach her. She dreamed of shifting gears and riding around the block, and when she woke, that is exactly what she did. In the 1930’s and 1940’s Bessie took eight long distance solo rides, apparently fearlessly through the Deep South where she was sometimes denied motel rooms and the use of restrooms. But not always, once a white gas station attendant was so impressed with her audacity, he filled her fuel tanks, wisher her luck and refused payment. She traveled light with a leather jacket, spare clothes in her saddlebags, and a money belt and sometimes slept on
her Harley at gas stations at night. Nothing seemed to discourage her love of riding. She would toss a coin on a map and go wherever it landed. After her adoptive parents passed away in the late 30’s, she moved to Miami Florida and promptly raised eyebrows by riding the streets standing on the saddle of her Harley or riding her two poodles, one on each knee with their paws on her handle bars. One account of her presence in Miami told of an interview in the local paper that stated: “N (word) women are not allowed to ride motorcycles in Miami”. This and constant harassment from local police prompted Bessie to pay a call on the police Captain Robert Jackson. He doubted her ability until she showed him her skill at a local park. She was never harassed again. She and ‘Captain Jack’ were friends after that. This incident and her riding antics all over the city, earned her the affectionate title of ‘Motorcycle Queen of Miami’. During World War II, she worked for the Army, and after rigorous training, carried classified dispatches in her saddlebags over America’s primitive back roads and swampy areas. She was the only woman in the unit of six black riders. After the war, Bessie tried her hand at racing and won her first outing at a flat track race, but when she took

off her helmet and her hair tumbled out, the official saw that she was a woman, they refused to give her the prize money. Then in the 1950’s she earned a nursing license and became a practical nurse. She started the Iron Horse Motorcycle Club and her home became the clubhouse and other motorcycle riders would congregate and party there. She stated “I was raisin’ the devil on a motorcycle!” Bessie Stringfield owned 27 Harleys (and one 1928 Indian, her first motorcycle) in her sixty-three years of riding, most of them new and her favorite color, blue. This charming, outgoing, diminutive (barely five feet tall) woman went around the country breaking down the color barrier and promoting women in motorcycling but humbly never thought she did anything special. Bessie was featured in an exhibit honoring Women in Motorcycling at the opening of the American Motorcyclist Association Heritage Museum in 1990. She was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2002, nine years after she passed away.

A Cowboys fan, a Redskins fan, and a Giants fan are climbing a mountain and arguing about who loves their team the most. The Giants fan insists that he is the most loyal. “This is for New York!” he yells and jumps off the mountain. Not to be outdone, the Redskins fan is next to profess his love for his team. He yells, “This is for Washington” and pushes the Cowboys fan off the mountain.
me?” “Well,” said the Queen, “The most important thing is to surround yourself with intelligent people.” Obama frowned, and then asked, “But how do I know the people around are really intelligent?” The Queen took a sip of tea. “Oh, that’s easy; you just ask them to answer an intelligent riddle.” The Queen pushed a button on her intercom. “Please send David Cameron in here, would you?” Cameron walked into the room and said, “Yes, Your Majesty?” The Queen smiled and said, “Answer me this please, David. Your mother and father have a child. It is not your brother and it is not your sister. Who is it?” Without pausing for a moment, Cameron answered, “That would be me.” “Yes! Very good,” said the Queen. Obama went back home to ask Joe Biden the same question. “Joe, answer this for me. Your mother and your father have a child. It’s not your brother and it’s not your sister. Who is it?” “I’m not sure,” said Biden. “Let me get back to you on that one.” He went to his advisers and asked everyone, but none could give him an answer. Finally, Biden ran in to Sarah Palin out eating one night. Biden asked, “Sarah, can you answer this for me? Your mother and father have a child and it’s not your brother or your sister. Who is it?” Sarah Palin answered right back, “That’s easy, it’s me!” Biden smiled, and said, “Thanks!” Then, he went back to speak with Obama. “Say, I did some research and I have the answer to that riddle. It’s Sarah Palin!” Obama got up, stomped over to Biden, and angrily yelled into his face, “No! You idiot! It’s David Cameron!”\
are legal in Alabama) light it, put it in a beer can (Coors), then hold the can up to your ear and count to 10.” The Alabamian said to the doctor, “I may not be the smartest tool in the shed, but I don’t see how putting a cherry bomb in a beer can next to my ear is going to help me.” “Trust me,” said the doctor. So the man went home, lit a cherry bomb and put it in a beer can. He held the can up to his ear and began to count! “1, 2, 3, 4, 5”. At which point he paused, placed the beer can between his legs and continued counting on his other hand. This procedure also works in Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, parts of Georgia, Missouri, West Virginia, and all of Washington D.C.

A newlywed couple just moved into their new house. One day, the wife asked her husband, “Honey, one of the bathroom pipes is leaking. Could you fix it?” The husband looked at his wife and said, “What do I look like — Mr. Plumber?” A few days went by, and his wife asked for a favor. “Honey, the car won’t start. I think it needs a new battery. Could you change it for me?” “What do I look like — Mr. Goodwrench?” A couple weeks later, the wife found a leak in the roof. “Honey, there’s a leak on the roof. Can you please fix it?” “What do I look like — Bob Vila?” He sat down with a beer and watched a game on TV. One rainy weekend, the husband realized the leak on the roof was gone. He went to the bathroom and found that the pipe behind the sink wasn’t leaking anymore either. When his wife returned home, the husband asked, “Honey, how come there aren’t any more leaks and the car’s running?” She replied nonchalantly, “Oh, the other day I ran into one of our new neighbors, Jon. What a nice man. He came over and fixed everything. “Wow, did he charge us anything?” “No, he said he’d do it for free if I either baked him a cake or had sex with him.” “Cool. What kind of cake did you make?” “Cake? What the hell do I look like — Betty Crocker?” A guy walked into a crowded bar waving his M1911 .45 caliber pistol with an 8 shot magazine, and yelled, “I want to know who’s been screwing my wife?” A voice from the back of the room called out... “You’ll need more ammo!” During a meeting with Queen Elizabeth, President Obama asked her, “Your Majesty, how do you run such an efficient government? Are there any tips you can give
Arguing over a girl’s bust size is like choosing between Molson, Heineken, Carlsberg, & Budweiser. Men may state their preferences, but will grab whatever is available. After their 11th child, an Alabama couple decided that was enough, as they could not afford a larger bed. So the husband went to his veterinarian and told him that he and his cousin didn’t want to have any more children. The doctor told him that there was a procedure called a vasectomy that could fix the problem but that it was expensive. “A less costly alternative,” said the doctor, “is to go home, get a cherry bomb, (fireworks
After being married for forty years, a wife asked her husband to describe her. He looked at her for a while, then said: “You’re an alphabet wife... A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K.” She asks: “What the hell does that mean?” He said: “Adorable, Beautiful, Cute, Delightful, Elegant, Foxy, Gorgeous, and Hot”. She smiled happily and said: “Oh, that’s so lovely, but what about I, J, K?” He said: “I’m Just Kidding!” The swelling in his eye is going down and the doctor is fairly optimistic about saving his testicles. I haven’t verified this on Snopes, but it sounds legit… A recent study found that women who carry a little extra weight live longer than the men who mention it. A couple had been married for 50 years. They were sitting at the breakfast table one morning when the wife says, “Just think, fifty years ago we were sitting here at this breakfast table together.” ‘’I know,” the old man said, “We were probably sitting here naked as a jaybird fifty years ago.” “Well,” Granny snickered, “Let’s relive some old times.” Where upon, the two stripped to the buff and sat down at the table. “You know, honey,” the little old lady breathlessly replied, “My nipples are as hot for you today as they were fifty years ago.’’ “I wouldn’t be surprised,” replied Gramps, “One’s in your coffee and the other is in your oatmeal.”

Foggy Windshield
Well it’s February already. Cold, wet, and frozen weather is almost a certainty, but despite all that we have a lot to look forward to. Getting ready for Daytona Bike Week is always on top of my list. Repairs to the bus and the bike are a priority along with permits, porta-johns, food, supplies, etc. While working the other day, I got something in my eye that landed me in the emergency room at my local hospital. As the doctor placed drops in my eyes to numb them, the room became hazy looking. It reminded me of a windshield or riding glasses fogging up when going through a valley or low spot in the landscape. I was then directed to 1 Corinthians 13:12 that says. “For now we see through a glass darkly; but then face to face; now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known”. We go through valleys in life a lot and don’t understand why. Death of friends and loved ones, hard times, job loss, the list goes on and on. Sickness is a real hard time, to watch a loved one battle for their life only to pass away. And what about the things children go through in today’s society? It’s sickening! We cannot see the entire picture sometime because of dark glass. It is then we must trust in God who sent his Son, Jesus, to make a way, that one day when we reach heaven we will understand why we went through every event of our lives. Jesus said, “I will never leave you or forsake you”. If you never met this man, Jesus, please ask him into your heart today. The

road in life may become hazy again, but you won’t have to go through it alone. Please try Jesus. In “HIS” wind, Popkorn
