appy New Year! Can you believe it’s Y2K16? There is not as much fanfare as there was 16 years ago, but sometimes, like Jimmy Buffett sang in “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes” I am amazed at what went down last year. In fact, I am dazed and confused about all that happened in December alone! There were toy runs galore. We celebrated the life of Ray Price and birth of Christ. There was a quiet time, at least for us, after Christmas at least until we began delivering the January 2016 issue. Then New Year’s Eve. Whew! I am still spinning! So now we are in January, Y2K16. There are a few Polar Bear type runs, but generally it is quiet. That is until The Easyriders Bike Show Tour comes to Charlotte on January 23rd. We will have a booth set up there and we encourage you to stop by and get your picture taken and pick up some freebies. Speaking of freebies, Easyriders has given us 10 pairs of tickets to give away. If you would like to score some free tickets, e-mail me at Mark@ FTCarolinas.com. In an effort to give everyone a chance to win, rather than taking the first 10 requests, we have randomly selected 10 numbers. If your response matches one of these 10 numbers, you are a winner. Contest closes 1-15-16 in order to have time to get the tickets to you. You must include your mailing address to qualify. Good luck! The next big event on our calendar is The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine 18th Attempt, Almost a Tradition, Pre Daytona, Valentines Day Party and Oyster Roast at Riders In The Country in Randleman, NC (see ad in this issue). This is our only party of the year and we are giving away free oysters (Karney Law Firm), free chicken wings (H-D of Greensboro). George Rider will also be providing free food. We will also be raffling off a diamond heart pendant (Hayes “King of Diamonds” Jewelers), and a 55” flat screen TV. Tickets are $5 each. There will be vendors, games, and music (Fair Warning), so plan on having a big day with The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine at Riders In The Country, 5701 Randleman road, Randleman, NC on February 13th. The 75th Annual Daytona Bike Week is March 4-13, 2016, and that’s as far as I can see into the future from here. Drag Racing Legend Ray Price Passes Away At 78 By: Mark Infield Ray Price, Owner of Ray Price Harley-Davidson/Triumph in Raleigh, NC laid down for a nap and passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, December 16, 2015. Ray was a legendary Harley drag racer. Price is an inducted member of several halls of fame including the AMA Hall of Fame, National Motorcycle Hall of Fame, Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame, North Carolina Drag Racing Hall of Fame, and the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame. Ray had also been selected for induction into the N.C. Sports Hall of Fame in the NC Museum of History just two days before his death. Induction ceremonies will be May 5th.

Ray was also instrumental in campaigns for Toys for Tots and other charities. Earlier in 2015 The North Carolina Retail Merchants Association (NCRMA) honored Ray Price Harley-Davidson with its “Retailer Of The Year” award. On December 20th, thousands of friends, most on motorcycles, paid their respects to Ray Price at Ray Price HarleyDavidson/Triumph in Raleigh, NC. Parking was at a premium and so was space inside the dealership where Ray’s casket was on display in the “Winner’s Circle” from 11am to 1 pm. Many

Saunders Street is a miniature drag strip with real burnouts which were done during construction and then sealed into the floor. At the other end of the strip is the ‘Winner’s Circle” where each new bike owner is celebrated. The Ray Price Legends Of Harley Drag Racing museum on the second level of the dealership houses some of the memorabilia of his career that spanned 6 decades. Ray was known as the father of the Funnybike. He was instrumental in creating the current style racing transmission and also designed the first wheelie bar for bikes, allowing more power to the rear wheel without flipping the bike over. He was also the first drag racer to be sponsored by Harley-Davidson. This year, with Tommy Grimes on board, the Ray Price HarleyDavidson Akea Race team won the NHRA Top Fuel Champi-
paused to pay their respects. It was a virtual “Who’s Who” of the motorcycling world with drag racers, Harley representatives, other H-D dealers, clubs, friends, and family attending. The double file procession leaving the dealership headed the Red Hat Amphitheater took over 11 minutes to get out on to the road. After a short ride, a large crowd entered the amphitheater to the strains of “Desperado”, “Against the Wind”, and “Simple Man” among others. The Wake & District Public Safety Pipes & Drums Corps procession started the ceremony. After the family was seated, a beautiful eulogy was delivered by Kris Weiss, and complimented by words of comfort from Floyd Baker of Freedom Biker Church, Bruce Brown, Raleigh HOG Co-Chaplain, and Preacher Mike Beasley.

After the service in the amphitheater, the crowd mounted up for the ride to Montlawn Memorial Park. Engines fired up and were revved in Ray’s honor. Even though it was just a short ride, Raleigh PD displayed their respect for Ray by blocking every intersection along the way. A ceremonial “ride by” the dealership was a nice touch that added to the day. At the cemetery, a Patriot Guard flag line awaited the family and the crowd. The US Air Force provided the military honors and presented Mrs. Jean and the family with the United States flag that was draped over the casket. The family released orange and black balloons as a symbolic send off and I think

By: Kathy Johnson Some warm hearts took the chill out of the air for the 24th Annual Durham HOG Chapter 3382 Toy Run. Rommel Harley-Davidson had the trailer ready to be loaded full of toys to make some children very happy this Christmas. The destination was the Salvation Army on Liberty Street in Durham, NC. The donated toys were for the Salvation Army Angel Tree program to give to over a thousand children in Orange, Person, and Durham counties. Durham County Motor Unit escorted the HOG Chapter and other riders on their mission that day. The Salvation Army would even accept slightly used toys. I am sure some of you that could not attend that day have some just laying around the house. Why don’t you take a little time out your day and make someone else’s day special? The Annual Christmas Toy Run Christmas Party At Nazareth Children’s Home By: Darby Dillard On December 12, 2015 we held the annual Christmas Toy Run Christmas Party at Nazareth Children’s Home. I’ll always be amazed what can happen when good people work together for a great cause. This party was in memory of my grandson Cameron “Ernie” Lane Ard and Jim “Hoppy” Hopkins. “Ernie” loved Santa and Christmas! “Hoppy” was a longtime supporter at the birthday parties and Christmas parties at Nazareth Children’s Home. It breaks my heart that we lost them both this year. “Hoppy” passed just a few weeks after last year’s party and “Ernie” died from injuries in a car accident on 4-16-15. I ask you to keep all involved in your prayers. We were blessed with great weather for December and our turnout was wonderful. We departed Speedway H-D just a few minutes past 12:00 pm as our escort (Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Department Motorcycle Unit) came from the Mt. Pleasant Christmas Parade straight to us. The CCSDMU is the absolute best at what they do! They took us through Concord to Bostian Heights Fire Department just off of Highway 152 on Old Concord Road in Salisbury, where we rendezvoused with more bikers from the Rockwell area. There were about 82 bikes in all. Usually, the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Department has to stop at the county line, but this year Sergeant A.T. Rankin arranged for their involvement to continue all the way to Bostian Heights VFD. As we waited to depart, Sergeant Rankin asked, “Do you care if we take you all the way to the house?” Oh course we did not, so on to Nazareth we went. It was great having Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Department take us all of the way with the help of Bostian Heights Fire Department, Rockwell Rural Fire Department, Rockwell Police Department, and Allen Cress with Rowan 911 operations. A huge thank you to all of the volunteers. Many people come and join us for the party who don’t ride a bike. So we have a wonderful mixed group of people from many different walks in this world.
We opened with a welcome to all and prayer. Next we served a traditional Christmas meal that included turkey, ham, dressing, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, and rolls. Thanks to the “Rockwell Gang” we had plenty of wonderful desserts! Roughly 225 people were able to enjoy the meal. Then the children received treats from Santa and off they went to open the gifts provided by all of the volunteers. We were also able to provide a comforter set for each child thanks to donations from many different people throughout the year. And we closed with a group rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas. We want to thank the following for their support: Food Lion Corporation for the hams and turkeys, Jackie with Carolina Siteworks Inc. for smoking all of the meat, Wanda’s Star Glazer and Moonwalk Company for sending Mr. and Mrs. Claus, Harris Teeter of Salisbury, Flower’s Bakery, Smiley’s Cycle Works of Rockwell, Law Petroleum, Dent B Gone, John Stroud Construction, Speedway H-D, The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine, Bob “The Bulldog” Karney, Halligan’s Ale House, Ben’s V Twins, Smiley’s Cycle (Of Charlotte), Wilgrove Automotive, and Perry’s Auto for helping spread the word. 4th Annual Blue Christmas & Dorrie’s December Dream Toy Drive
These Bikes Wont Last Long! By: Doug Mokaren The Piedmont Blues Preservation Society held its 4th Annual Blue Christmas & Dorrie’s December Dream Toy Drive for underprivileged children at the new Mac’s Speed Shop restaurant, 1218 Battleground Avenue, in Greensboro, NC. Dorrie Hill, wife of PBPS board member, John Hill, was at Industry Week in Las Vegas in early November 2011 when she was stricken with cardiac arrest. There was concern about her prognosis, since she had been deprived of oxygen for so long during the incident. She remained hospitalized in Las Vegas and due to her serious condition, she didn’t get home until spring, 2012. Several people suggested a fundraiser be held to assist the Hill family through this extraordinary medical crisis. Dorrie and John thought there were many others in more need than their family and asked for people to help others in stead, especially as Christmas was approaching. Dorrie would normally organize a toy drive in December for the children of needy families, so the Piedmont Blues Preservation Society picked up the cause for their friend and has made Dorrie’s
December Dream a part of it’s annual Blue Christmas celebration for the past four years. The Society had been putting on the Blue Christmas Party as a way to thank members and volunteers for their support throughout the year. Adding a toy drive makes the celebration more festive. We ask attendees to the Blue Christmas party to bring new, unwrapped toys for children aged 0 - 13 years old as admission to the best holiday party in the Triad! In lieu of new toys, donations to His Laboring Few Ministries may be made at the door. All monetary donations will be used to purchase toys for impoverished children. Each year, thousands of dollars worth of new toys have been distributed to children who otherwise would not receive toys at Christmas. The Piedmont Blues Preservation Society is grateful to Mac’s Speed Shop for allowing us to hold Dorrie’s December Dream/Blue Christmas at their new restaurant in Greensboro. We felt it was a perfect fit, as they love beer, bikes, and barbeque. Each year, thousands of dollars worth of new toys have been distributed to children who otherwise would not receive toys at Christmas.

2nd Annual Christmas Cheer Bike Show By: Scott Wicker Lucky’s Saloon in Burlington had a huge turn out on Saturday, November 7th for their 2nd Annual Christmas Cheer Bike Show. 34 bikes comprised 10 classes of high quality machines that filled one end of Lucky’s huge parking lot. Judging all these motorcycles was a very tedious task. Four very knowledgeable judges spent several hours separating the bikes into their appropriate classes and picking the best out of those to win top honors. Murphey’s 21st Annual Toy Run By: Wally Wersching On Saturday, November 21st, John Murphey of Murphey’s Scooter Shed in Kings Mountain, NC held his 21st Annual Toy Run. The 50 mile, police escorted, ride benefits the Shriner’s Burn Center, Oxford Orphanage Masonic Home for Children, and the Kings Mountain Police Department “Shop with a Cop” program. God continued to watch over John’s event. It was a chilly morning with temps around freezing but no rain. As the time got closer to noon when the run would start, the temps climbed to around 50, and the wind wasn’t too bad, either. It looked like a beautiful fall day, which encouraged many bikers to come for the ride. Huge boxes of toys were collected along with a good bit of money. This year Murphey asked for a $5.00 donation along with the new toy for every person going on the run. That included the run, BBQ afterward, and live music. Murphey’s Scooter Shed is located in a residential neighborhood on a dead-end road next to John’s home where he works on bikes in his spare time. There is a small parking area around the shop, and during the toy runs it’s full of bikers buying t-shirts, renewing old acquaintances, and making new ones while dropping off the toys. I got to Murphey’s at about 10:15AM. John was there looking more like Santa Claus every year. He told me that in a few days, his beard would be white because he plays Santa at local events. Slowly, more bikes came down the road. I helped guide them
to keep most of the bikes on the pavement. The adjacent lawns were off limits. Some of the bikers looked evil with their faces covered with skeleton masks to keep their faces warm. The band was playing in the garage, and the cooks were getting the food ready. The BBQ served at Murphey’s is some of the best in the area. I walked down the long line of motorcycles, and heard many people laughing, and getting acquainted. I met a couple US Navy Chief Petty Officers (CPO’s) – one retired, and the other one still on active duty. While we were standing next to their bikes talking, a guy drove his pick-up truck onto the adjacent grassy field. He spun his tires getting out of the ditch, and sprayed us with mud and wet grass. We were all covered by the stuff. The CPO’s were talking about retaliation but nothing happened. Later when I was walking around taking pictures, I located the truck and the driver. After I told him what he had done, he apologized to me but never went to apologize to the CPO’s. Down the row of beautiful motorcycles were a few Victory motorcycles along with a few Indian Chieftains, too, but most of the bikes were Harleys or Harley wannabees. There was a very unusual bike at the event – a 1970’s Honda CB160. It was the smallest bike at the event. The owner had just completed the restoration, and wanted to take it for a ride. He said that he owned one back in the 70’s when he was in college. He was a little large for the small bike but he said that it would easily run 60 mph with him on it. At exactly 12:00 noon, the run began with a police escort with Murphey leading the run as usual on his custom-made Indian look-alike bike. The route was planned ahead, and either the police or fire departments would block off every intersection. I decided not to go on the run but to take pictures of the riders as they left. They left quickly but still took about 20 minutes for all to pass. I will definitely go again next year. It’s a great way to spend a late fall Saturday, and it helps a lot of kids have a Merry Christmas.

Steele Angels 12th Annual Toy Run By: Wendy Rogers This year marked the 12th running of the Steele Angels Toy Run. As always, it is held the Saturday before Thanksgiving. It was a beautiful day with the highs of 60 and the sun was shining nice all day. The Fayetteville motorcycling community came together to support the Steele Angels. The ride started at Legends Pub of Fayetteville and ended at the Doghouse. The Fayetteville Police Department provided both motor and cruiser escort as Santa led the merry bikers across town to the Doghouse. Plenty of toys that the bikers had strapped down to their bikes were showing for the ride. There are going to be a lot of very happy children this Christmas who might otherwise not have been able to enjoy that special day from Santa Claus. They all look forward to at this time of the year. A great afternoon of fellowship, great weather, delicious food, cold beverages, and some solo live music all put together for this event. This year was a very important event due to the many children in the area that are going to need assistance. The parents, the Social Services, and the battered women shelter will be helping them get these toys to the children that are really in need. All children deserve to have a good Christmas. All children deserve to eat and have a good life, but the fact of the matter is, some don’t. But many organizations come together attempting to make it better for them.

By: Scott Wicker Cooler morning temperatures led to unseasonably warm afternoon weather on Saturday, November 14th as the Alamance County Chapter of The Red Knights and the Burlington HOG Chapter combined forces to hold their annual toy run for the 2015 Holiday Season. Over 70 bikes and riders braved the cooler morning temperatures and met at Down Home Harley-Davidson to start the event. Down Home provided donuts and coffee for the riders to prepare everybody for the thirteen stops that were safely made at participating fire stations along the planned route. Fire Station pick up points throughout Alamance County were Pleasant Grove, Snow Camp, Eli - Whitney, Swepsonville, Mebane, Haw River, Faucette, North Central, AltamahawOssipee, Elon Station #2, Burlington Headquarters, Graham Headquarters, and Alamance County Rescue Base. Boxes were also collected at Lamb’s Chapel, Studio M Hair Salon, Shamrock Nutrition, and 6 Scoops Ice Cream Shop in Gibsonville. The Blue Knights Chapter 10 participated in the ride and a special donation was collected while everyone ate lunch at the
Faucette Fire Department for a ride the Blue Knights held on November 21st at Down Home Harley-Davidson. $1,000 was donated to the Blue Knights to help with one of their fellow officer’s 2-yearold son with an inoperable brain tumor. Over 2,000 Toys and over $700.00 was collected and distributed in Alamance County through the efforts of the toy run. Everyone had a Great Time and a Safe Ride as well. Make plans to be there next year if you missed out. A Big Thanks goes to the members of the NC Red Knights Chapter # 7 and the Burlington HOG Chapter for organizing this event. The Red Knights and the Burlington HOG Chapter would like to thank everyone that participated and made contributions for such a great cause. We appreciate the law enforcement agencies and the fire departments that escorted the ride and kept intersections safe. And Thanks to all who participated and gave unselfishly to this great cause for kids in need! Ride Safe in 2016!

Stars & Bars Thanksgiving Covered Dish Dinner By: Charles Holcombe, AKA Uwharrie Charlie Thursday, November 26th the annual Thanksgiving dinner at Stars & Bars was all too great with friends and family enjoying a traditional dinner together. Somehow, someway it is never expected that enough food will be there, but it always seems to grow to a plenty. Contributions with the covered dishes by many loved ones here always come through. Thanks to everyone that brought a dish. I believe there was a turkey competition going on but I won’t swear to it. All was great! The buffet line started around 6pm and went way beyond 8:30 last I saw. Most were focused on the football game between the Carolina Panthers and the Dallas Cowboys. What a game folks! The game ended with the Panthers winning their tenth straight game in a row. I personally cheer for the Dallas Cowgirls who are the best in the biz! Beat that Romo! Danny Franklin, who can sing about anything from blues to rock and country, provided the live music. The best part of this event is the love you feel from all who come out for it. It’s great to get together for a no-pressure

Holly’s Birthday Bash
By: Kelly Wescott What a Birthday Bash Blowout! The owner of Legends Pub in Fayetteville, NC turned 60 this past week, and what a blast it was! Surrounded by approx. 200 of her gypsy friends and patrons, Holly Whitley celebrated in her own wonderful style on November 21st. 1950’s themed party was held at her pub, with her daughter, Christy and good friend Crystal, hosting. The guests were all asked to dress in 50’s styles, and they did not disappoint. The girls rocked in poodle skirts, carhop attire, vintage dresses, even some pin up girls. We had Elvis, and leather clad men, some with fedoras, and more with white Tee’s with sleeves rolled up and a pack of cigarette in the
sleeve. It was great! The decorations and music were also wonderful, balloons and old 45’s hanging from the ceiling, life sized photo’s of James Dean and Marilyn Monroe, an old time soda shop, the juke box, and then the DJ playing oldies and lots more. As usual, the food rocked as well, burgers, hot dogs and lots of fixin’s were available to all. A great 50’s 3-tier cake took center stage. The gypsy women, and some male friends that grill for us all, are famous for throwing a great spread of food, and this was no exception. Holly and her crew throw many, many fundraising activities all throughout the year. This was a chance for all of her many friends to honor her, say thank you, and Happy Birthday!

By: Bill Gallaway On Saturday, December 12, 2015 Oconee County SC held the Annual Marshall Rogers Canned Food Run. The food received wasn’t necessarily all cans, there were also boxes of pasta, cereal, beans, and miscellaneous provisions needed to make dinners. The run started at noon at the VFW Post 6830 in Walhalla, SC. The riders made their way around to various stops in Oconee County in beautiful 75º temperatures with full sun and ended back at the VFW with a beans and bones supper to the participants. Three hundred dollars was awarded to the holder of the high hand. The ride benefited the Lakeview Assisted Living Home in Walhalla, SC.

David and Missi Thompson, owners of Double D Burnout Saloon in Kernersville, and JR’s Corner Tavern in High Point started in by raising over $4000 with Christmas in July. Friday night, December 4th, they had bicycle night at Double D Burnout Saloon. All customers that donated a bike were put in a raffle for prizes. There were 135 bicycles donated. Staff Sergeant Paul Remington, the Coordinator for Toys For Tots, was present to thank all that participated. He also coordinated fund-raiser last year. Last year they helped 18,800 children. Before Thanksgiving this year they had already helped 7,700 with 12,000 names summited this year. On Saturday, December 5th, the ride began at JR’s Corner Tavern with approximately 150 bikes. The ride began with a beautiful prayer for all the riders. David Thompson did a special remembrance of Barry Glenn, who hosted the ride for many years, followed by a moment of silence in honor of Barry. Royal Limos provided a Limo bus (the party bus) for all that were not rid-
ing. The ride began with stops at Chunk’s Hawg Haven, The Saw Mill, and ended up at Double D to party and enjoy the accomplishment. There were raffles, best and worst hands, and a 50/50 of $367 won by Robbie Bingham, who gave it all back to help the children. A special thanks to Forgotten Sons, who donated 40 bikes, Chunk’s Hawg Haven that donated 15 bicycles and $350, The US Marines, and Forever Two Wheels and the band Under The Gun who donated their time. Thanks to Staff Sergeant Paul Remington and Sergeant Sean Garvey, representing the Marines. It was a wonderful day and many participated. A special thanks to all that worked so hard to make this a success. Special thanks to all the bikers that, once again, came out with open hearts.

Snake’s Memorial Celebration Of Life
By: Everette “EZ” Short On November 30, 2015 we lost a dear friend and legend, when Richard “Snake” Pariseau passed away. As you can only imagine, Snake left behind a good bit of debt for medical bills and expenses. Snake was family and a great friend for a lot of us. Here, at the beach, we are all family, so it was no surprise that over 100 riders showed up for the Snake Memorial Celebration of Life on Saturday, December 12th at Patty’s Bar. When kickstands went up at noon, there were smiles, laughter, and tears in the parade of bikes that rode off to The Sundowner Sports Pub in Surfside Beach. with a big old, “GET OVER IT” being splashed around, since that was Snake’s favorite thing to say to anyone with a problem. Thus, his other nickname, “Insensitive Prick”, was given to him by his wife for all his days of not giving a shit. Our next stop was at Barnacle Bill’s Rum and Raw Bar smack dab in the middle of Myrtle Beach proper, which is amazing since no police or undercover cars rolled up to show us the way out. If you’ve never been to Barnacle Bill’s, then you need to stop by for some of the finest food on the entire beach. I am not kidding. After more story telling, butt slappin’ and yer basic shenanigans, it was off to Dog House Donny’s Saloon. Amy, Leah and Colleen did their best to quaff the thirst of the crowd and eventually, we ended up at the Sue Pariseau Memorial Wishing Well, for a shot and some tears, with everyone lifting a glass to this old curmudgeon. Next, we slipped down to The City Line Saloon, where JC himself served it up for a quick sip and a shuffle of the cards, before heading back to Patty’s to end the day’s celebration with food, prizes, and some heartfelt last goodbyes, while William “Guage” Lindsey emceed the event while singing “I’m a little teapot” from atop the pool table. In the end, Snake left a lot of friends and family behind to be with his beloved Snue (that’s what he called her), but over $2115 was raised on that day to cover final expenses, with no attitudes, incidents, or accidents. Now THAT in and of itself is amazing since some of us even got some of the infamous “Snake Oil” that is a concoction that mixes instant diabetes with moonshine, thanks to his son Richard. At some point, someone got the microphone and asked, “Snake, why aren’t you here to see how many people loved yer ornery ass?” I took the mike and said, “He’s right here, right now...” Ride well with Snue, my friend. By: Kickstart & Dounut Sunday, December 14 was a blessing of a day for the bikers and our veterans. Friends and family gathered from all around to show their support for our veterans. We met at Carolina Honda on Buckner Road in Columbia, SC to head out to the William Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Medical Center to meet and greet our men and women veterans. Food was served by The Boy Scouts of America from 10 am to 1:30 pm. Kickstands went up at 2 pm. Several Sponsors were there to help support this event. There were thousands of bikers that showed up to also support this event, and each year it looks bigger. Once we got to the Dorn Veterans Hospital lots of bikers lined up to shake some of the veteran’s hands and pay respect. 2015 Wreaths Across America At Arlington National Cemetery
By: Renea Brown On December 12, 2015 over 70,000 loving people showed up to place wreaths on the graves of heroes that are laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. It is estimated that 240,815 wreaths were placed at ANC, but this does not include the 1100+ other National Cemetery’s where wreaths were laid. It was a day for our nation to pay respect to the ones who will not celebrate Christmas with us this year. The Wreaths Across America foundation along with the help of volunteer truck drivers and volunteers really do an amazing job raising funds for wreaths and coordinating this event. It was a true honor to be a part of the special day at Arlington Cemetery. To watch the young and the old carefully place their wreath on a headstone that they walked around and felt led to choose was amazing. These Americans came and waited for hours to get parked, walk to the ceremony and then chose one of over 60 trucks to wait by. They brought along their families, scout troops, and fellow soldiers to put a little piece of Christmas on these headstones. There are 70 sections located in Arlington cemetery and the most beautiful site was walking around the cemetery and seeing all of the headstones with a perfect wreath resting on it. To know that within a 2 hour period all of these graves had someone come to each of them and pay respect to them and I feel sure that some prayed over them before they placed the wreath and spoke their name. As we were leaving the cemetery (after around a 4 hour period of being there), there were still volunteers sweeping up pine needles and a few people still holding their wreath looking for the perfect spot for it. You could look around; even at the resting spot of those who were cremated and you would see that beautiful wreath. They held a separate wreath laying for John F. Kennedy and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and I feel sure that it was a very heartfelt SERVING THE LEGAL NEEDS OF BIKERS SINCE 1987

and dignified ceremony. This day will be a memory forever etched in my mind. Not only for the show of love that was poured out to those who are no longer with us, but also because I was able to see my daughter lay the wreath (a Wreaths Across America wreath) that had hung on her Nanny’s door for 2 weeks before she brought from Stokes County and lovingly place it upon her Papa’s headstone. This is his first Christmas in Arlington National Cemetery and I know he and each of these soldiers were looking down upon us this day and smiling and loved seeing the unity of fellow Americans with one goal in mind - HONORING our soldiers.

35th Annual Smoky Mountain Toy Run By: Gary Aiken Little could they have known that what a few good bikers started in 1981 would morph into an event that so totally impacted a county and the small community where it all begin. That moment in time in October 1981 began as a few friends sitting around having a good time, discussing their motorcycle adventures and bemoaning the lack of awareness that most folks had about bikers. One complaint led to the opportunity that changed everything, when one of those bikers mentioned that he had read a biker magazine story about a California Toy Run sponsored by motorcyclists. This small beginning led to the first Toys For Tots motorcycle parade on December 20th, 1981. Although the temperature hovered in the lower twenties, twenty bikers and two vans made the first trip with collected toys and money to Santa Pal headquarters in downtown Asheville. These motorcyclists had no affiliations other than their common belief; “How can you tell a kid Santa Claus isn’t coming? Kids are supposed to be happy at Christmas time.” Our posters advertising the 2015 35th Anniversary Smoky Mountain Toy Run along with the event t-shirts honored these early pioneers. What they set in motion was nothing short of miraculous. The day of the event we celebrated their accomplishment with an invitation to come up on stage and be acknowledged as the ones, “who started it all.” It also gave the crowd the opportunity to meet and thank them. Coming off stage one of the founders pulled me to the side and thanked me, telling me, “How proud he was that his kids could finally see that he had done something good in his life.” This year’s event became even more profound when an 11 year old boy stood on stage and thanked all the bikers, “Without the Toy Run and the riders who contribute, my sister and I would not have gotten anything for Christmas.” Pretty profound things happening all around and I was just left in awe of what was occurring. As the motorcycles departed the Kearfott parking lot, they were met by hundreds, if not, thousands of spectators, lining both sides of the highway for miles cheering them as they passed. The Smoky Mountain Toy Run has become the Christmas Parade for our small, unincorporated community, with spectators. As if we didn’t have enough of a warm feeling in
our gut from all the events before the toy run, riding through this massive group of happy, waving people just made our hearts feel even warmer. This year over 1200 bikers participated in the 35th Annual Smoky Mountain Toy Run. Together with our partners, in particular the students and staff in our Buncombe County Schools, we gathered thousands of toys. The riders, along with our sponsors, went even further raising thousands of dollars, all of which we contributed to Eblen Charities Saint Nicholas Project. Through the years the name has changed but the goal has remained the same; “For the Kids!” As we celebrated our 35th year we are truly amazed at what has been accomplished. Thousands of toys and thousands of dollars have been raised each year to support charities whose shared goal is to make sure that every child has a Merry Christmas. None of this could not have accomplished by any one individual or any one group. It is by our collective efforts as caring citizens, who just happen to ride motorcycles that come together each year to bring Christmas happiness to those less fortunate. Merry Christmas to all our supporters and Best Wishes for a Happy New Year.

13th Annual Arzie Rogers Toy Run By: Rose and Lloyd November 21st, Lloyd and I did one of our favorite annual toy rides. We rode to The CMC Northwest Stadium, and along with hundreds of other bikers registered for the 13th Annual Arzie Rogers Toy Run. Speedway Harley-Davidson, and their HOG Chapter sponsor the ride every year. The opening ceremony was a prayer for all riders. Amy thanked everyone and reminded them that the name of the ride had changed a few years ago in honor of her grandmother. Some years this is a cold ride, but this year the sun was shining bright, as the Cabarrus County Sheriff Department lead about 140 bikes on a beautiful ride. A little country, a little highway, and of course, our annual parade through downtown Concord. Arriving back to Speedway Harley-Davidson, we were welcomed with delicious food catered by Uptown Catering Company. DJ Todd provided entertainment. There were raffles, a 50/50, and many store discounts. The main part was the beautiful Christmas tree, which was filled with presents and climbing the wall. The presents are all donated to the Empty Stocking Fund. Many thank to all the participated and worked so hard to make this event a success. Thanks to all the bikers that came out with open hearts. Brenner Children’s Hospital Toy Run 2015 By:WildThing The Spirit of Christmas is alive and definitely rode with us December 12th to Brenner Children’s Hospital in WinstonSalem. Harley-Davidson of Greensboro had set up a tree in their showroom and there were literally piles of toys around it by the time we arrived to add to it. Registration started at 11 am, and there were still riders coming in up till kickstands up at 1pm! The commemorative t-shirts were sold out the first hour and the line of motorcycles stretched from the front of the dealership all the way to the cul-desac. The upper parking lot and Chunk’s parking lot was also filled with bikes. No count was available due to the overwhelming numbers, although I heard one count of 600+ before we left but I think it was more than that. The beautiful, warm weather contributed a lot to the turn out. And they came from all over, from as far away as Gastonia, Raleigh, Roxboro, and parts of Virginia from what I heard. Several riding groups and clubs were in attendance and made quite a splash as they rode in in groups of thirty and more! “Best turn out in 18 years”, said Mark Wheelihan. Guilford County Motor Patrol coordinated the escort from the dealership to the hospital and was ably assisted by Greensboro PD, High Point PD, Kernersville PD, and Winston-Salem PD. The not only escorted the riders and the toy trucks, but shut down I-40 for us! There was an officer at every on ramp, holding back other traffic as the long procession of motorcycles cruised down the highway. It was positively ‘presidential’. Thanks, guys; you did a great job, as usual Upon arrival at the hospital several kids were able to be out on such a nice day and gifts were taken out of the trailers and presented to them right away. Santa was in the lead of the motorcycle parade and parked in front of the hospital door. He was riding a Harley with a side hack full of plush reindeer, to the delight of the children. It took a while for all the riders to park and walk down to the front doors where Mark Wheelihan was introducing his family and thanking everyone for the most successful toy run ever. He called for a round of applause for the excellent job done by the law enforcement officers who escorted us. He introduced his Marketing and Promotions Director, Sharee Sloan, who had done a great job of coordinating with the LEO, organizing the run, and her powers of persuasion getting the numerous sponsors to contribute cash. He stated that he had no idea of the value of the toys, but he handed an envelope of check donations to Beth Smith, Brenner Child Life Department head, that contained $16,500! Then he pledged his Harley-Davidson
dealership would round that amount up to $20,000. Beth enthusiastically thanked us all and promised that every child and any siblings in the hospital would receive gifts on Christmas. She went on to say that the toys were used all through the year to stock the playrooms and help kids in the hospital on their birthdays and other special occasions receive presents. Then everyone was invited to help unload the toy trailer and take the stuff up to the eighth floor where Beth had a room to store them until they could be sorted by the staff. There were so many toys, that the room was filled in no time and they had to store the rest in the hallway. That’s when we told her there was another truck of toys coming! By: Kathy Johnson Adam Sandoval and his Chihuahua Scooter “Trash” have been tacking some serious mileage on his 96 Electra Glide. Their mission is raising money for the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund. That fund helps children whose parents where killed while serving our country. Adam and Scooter raise the funds by stopping at every Harley-Davidson dealership in the lower 48 United States. Following their journey is about as interesting as it was to meet the real super hero duo. I was exited to see they were heading to the Carolinas and stopping at Rommel Harley-Davidson in Durham. So, first thing to do before their arrival of course was to get scooter some treats! You see, they go off of donations even and including you offering up a place to stay. When they came to Durham it was cold and very foggy but standing outside the dealership watching that bike riding in through the fog was one of those moments. When Adam got off his bike a very genuine, just glad to be there, smile was on his face. When he and Scooter entered the dealership, he had a warm welcome, and, yes, donations, and a mountain of pizza was ordered on their behalf. You knew he was tired but he spoke warmly with each and every person waiting there to see him. I do believe he knows some were there to meet Scooter. That dog is a super star. I asked Adam, “Does Scooter ever let you know he wants to get on the bike?” Adam said if he is at a dealership long enough Scooter goes to the door, he is ready to ride. Before their stop at Rommel they stopped at Ray Price H-D and after they left Rommel they went to Down Home Harley-Davidson. Each dealership was honored that they stopped in. You can’t help but look at Adam and
Scooter admirably, riding on this journey that started in November of 2014. Through out his ride through people tracking him (http://goo.gl/D6Fld3) some fall in and ride with him. He has met so many people and has even had events to raise funds for other people planned on his journey. Epic, Impressive, you can’t really grasp or absorb the magnitude of his ride. Personally, I think Milwaukee needs to give him a new Harley when this ride is done. His dog has ridden more miles then a lot of people have! If you have the opportunity to meet Adam and Scooter, please do, but do not pick Scooter up. At a stop one time someone dropped Scooter on his head. Since then you can pet him but do not pick him up. Ray Price Harley-Davidson Rides For Marine Corps Toys For Tots By: Kris Weiss The day could not have been nicer for a big ride across town to deliver toys for the Marine Corps Toys For Tots Foundation. There was a crisp chill in the air starting out in the morning as riders started registering at 9am on December 5th at Ray Price Harley-Davidson. The sun was shining bright as temperatures kept creeping up in to the sixties. Raleigh HOG was there in full force getting everyone lined up and loading the toys into the Ray Price Race Rig. The atmosphere was filled with Christmas music playing, people mingling, drinking coffee, and eating Krispy Kreme Donuts. About 200 motorcycles left the dealership following the Wake County Sheriff and the Marines to the first stop in downtown Raleigh for the “Laying Of The Wreath” ceremony. Veterans lined the street as the ceremony took place honoring those who have served our country. The ride proceeded on to the final destination at the Lone Star Steakhouse in Knightdale. Our gracious hosts served us BBQ Turkey sandwiches with a side of coleslaw and some sweet tea to wash it down. The DJ was set up playing Christmas music for the 300 plus people in attendance and the Triangle Area Cruisers displayed their classic cars for all to enjoy. All of those in attendance could vote for their favorite classic car and motorcycle by placing a toy next to a car or motorcycle. The classic car and motorcycle with the most toys placed next to it was the winner. The winner of the motorcycle show was Jeff Ewing with his 2004 Road King and the winner
of the car was George Kavelak with his 1967 Chevelle. This year’s Marine Corps Toys For Tots was a huge success with Raleigh HOG donating $3000, 50 bicycles that they refurbished from new bikes returned and donated from WalMart, along with a ton of toys brought by the riders and classic car folks. The Marines were grateful to load up their 7-ton vehicle with all the toys. They even had to call in for an extra vehicle to pick up the remaining toys and bicycles. 13th Annual Kops Kids Toy Cruise-In By: Bill Gallaway Sunday, November 22nd was the date for the 13th Annual Kops Kids Toy Run for the 2015 season. The event took place in Chesnee, SC at the Chesnee Shrine Club. This year the event did not have an actual toy run. The format was changed from year’s past where riders would meet at a specific location and take off for a short motorcycle ride before returning back to Chesnee where BBQ would be served and participants could sit around and listen to live music or just visit with old friends. This year, the addition of Antique Cars and Antique Bikes, what Chesnee Classic Cycles is best known for, were on display in the parking lot of the Shrine Club. Many of the riders come from a good distance so they get their ride in just coming to Chesnee. Upon my arrival, the parking lot was already at capacity in front and beside the club but there was still plenty of parking around the back. the 1PM starting time where folks gathered, as always, only this year they were warm and dry. The weather was very cooperative; temps were in the 50’s and it was sunny. After folks had their fill of BBQ, beans, and chips, many stayed around for the Big Cash drawing, which was $300, donated by The Tom McGrath Motorcycle Law Group. You got a ticket toward the drawing when you made a monetary donation or brought a toy to be placed under the tree. You didn’t need to be present to win but it was fun just to be present for the drawing. At 3PM there were still over 200 attendees waiting with bated breath to hear their name be called. The winner wasn’t on site but was called and informed of his winnings. This annual event helps Chesnee Kops Kids, who would otherwise receive nothing at all, receive a toy from Santa on Christmas morning. Bikers again show their true colors by supporting the children at Christmas. It was a nice day and I can’t wait for next year. Thanks to everyone that participated. Santa Rides The Strand
By: Everette “EZ” Short On the first Saturday of December, it was 78º of blue sky sunshine, when no less than 7 different Santas and more than 500 riders showed up for the 6th Annual Toy Run at Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson’s main store. Even before the kickstands went up at noon, two giant truckloads of toys had arrived with a rowdy cheer. Assembling into a line, the toys passed from the truck to the Christmas tree, like water in a bucket brigade of Santa’s elves. The bikes were all wrapped in tinsel, lights, and cheer for the holiday and even the Grinch made an appearance. Then, it was off for a short ride to The Boathouse on the waterway for food, fun, prizes, and music. There was even an old time photo booth that was definitely a cool perk. Soon enough, everyone drifted apart to enjoy more riding on an amazing day at the beach. By the end of the Toy Run, Myrtle Beach HarleyDavidson announced that they had raised over $5200 for the kids and had far exceeded last years donation of toys to benefit families of the less fortunate along the Grand Strand via the Horry County Red Cross. Sponsors of the event included Steelhorse Law, The Boathouse Waterway Bar Grill, J&J Air, Pawleys Island Pressure Washing, WRXZ Rock 107.1, and Palmetto Moonshine. With 470+ registered riders and over 20 of the local bike clubs showing up, it is impossible to count how many bikes rolled

25th Annual Conover School Toy Run Story and Photo by Alan Dockery Riders across the Hickory, NC, area were blessed with beautiful weather as they rode into the Wizard Saloon for the 25th Annual Toy Run to benefit the Conover School. Twenty-five years is an impressive milestone for this unique toy run organized by Mike Dyson. There were young men and women riding their own bikes who first went on the toy run as kids. When it was time to ride, at least 500 motorcycles headed down Highway 70 to the school. Leading the way was Arnold Kerley on his beautiful custom trike towing Santa (Wesley Moore) and The Snowman (Steve Pitman) in a sleigh. This toy run supports the Conover School, one of the state’s premier special education schools. What makes it different from other toy runs is instead of bringing toys to a central collection point, teachers select specific toys based on each child’s wants, needs, and abilities. Bikers pay the tab through a charity managed by Mike. This is a unique toy run and the coolest by far that I’ve been on in my many years. On the Conover School Toy Run, bikers see the kids they are helping. As we rode into the NewtonConover High School parking lot the cheering kids and families lined the sidewalk. Folks gathered in the gym to see a great part of this toy run. What makes it so special for the kids, their families, and the bikers is what the kids give back to us, a heart-warming Christmas Show. Each year the children of the Conover School show their appreciation by putting on a Christmas pageant, singing and acting out songs of the season. This is such a touching show that even the most macho bikers could be seen wiping an occasional tear. In the spirit of this year’s theme, Rockin’ And Rollin’ For 25 Years, the school presented mike with a guitar signed by all the students. The show included a special song by bikers, kids, and everyone. The Traveling Wizards, Zeb, Mike, Keith, Brandon, Rick, and Arnold, lead the rest of us as we all sang their new song The Toy Run, Run, Run. After the singing, Santa handed out presents to the kids. “This year the bikers surprised us by performing a song they had written about the toy run,” said Phyllis Pegram, Principal of Conover School. “It was definitely a day to put you in the Christmas spirit and make you realize Christmas is about giving to others.” “Conover School students, staff, and parents are so appreciative for the dedication the bikers have put into this event each year. Thanks to Mike for maintaining the tradition of making
sure that all Conover School students had the opportunity to see Santa and receive a Christmas gift. The bikers do fundraisers all year, such as car washes and yard sales, to raise money for this event. They also provide a monetary donation to the school each year. The funds from the Bikers’ Toy Run are a great help to Conover School and provide items for students we could not otherwise provide.” Most of the riders returned to the Wizard Saloon for some Cowboy Beans and sandwiches. Then Mike and his staff gave away a bunch of cool door prizes and auctioned some nice items. “Once you see the children’s faces light up and the difference we make, you feel the meaning of Christmas,” Mike said. “Lots of times you can do anything in life. But when it makes a difference like we do, when you see the children laugh and have a ball, you can do anything that needs to be done.” “Twenty-five years ain’t that big a step, but it is one you want to overcome. We’ve overcome that and will keep on going for years to come. Twenty-five years has taken some hard work and lot of want to. I want to do 25 more. As long as I have y’all’s support we can do anything.”

By: Trisha Beasley Why do we ride? Because we can! But one thing is for sure; bikers love to ride for a good cause. It is, in fact, a day of fun and helping someone all at the same time. Well, that’s exactly what took place at Pearce’s Mill Fire Department in Fayetteville, NC. Deputy Chief Tracy Smith is currently undergoing chemotherapy for stage 4 carcinoma of the head and neck. By January, he will begin his radiation treatments five days a week for six weeks. This is of course a tremendous battle to fight alone. Not to mention all the struggle and expenses that come along with the treatments and all the side effects. The good news is that Deputy Chief Tracy Smith does not have to face it alone. That fact was made known at the poker run! There were family, friends, community, and bikers to prove that he has the support of others to lean on. And when life gives you a curve; you are certainly supposed to lean into it! We all were able to lean in the curves on this day to support Tracy. The poker run was hosted at the Pearce’s Mill Fire Department, Fayetteville NC. The following are some of the initial members of #TeamTracy that did what
it takes to pull the ride together: Amanda Smith, Suzanne Freda, Crystal Coleman Dickerson, Kerrie White, and Brittany Johnson. It was a great success and heartfelt love and respect was definitely present at the fire station and on the ride. There were a total of 76 bikes. These comprised of clubs, organizations, and independent riders. In addition, there were vendors, food, and crafts, as well as some really tasty desserts. All were donating to the #TeamTracy cause. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with Tracy during his treatment and recovery. The group of supporters, volunteers, and last but not least, riders just seemed to grow and come together. #TeamTracy requested to extent their “Special Thanks” to all that supported the ride and to those that continue to support Tracy and his family.

This is an annual tradition at the dealership, where children can come to tell him what they want for Christmas, get their picture made with him, and enjoy delicious cookies and milk. This is also a tradition for me as well, since I have taken my grandchildren there to see the jolly old elf there for the past 10 years! My grandson asked me, “Why does Santa Claus come here every year”. I told him the simple truth. Santa really, really likes motorcycles and likes to come to Smokin’ to see the best selection of Harleys in the area. He also wants to get the best deal around too! By: Bill Gallaway Sunday, November 29, 2015 was the 35th Annual Jack Hurley Anderson Toy Parade in memory of Charles and Diane Bolt. This annual parade helps underprivileged children receive a toy from Santa on Christmas morning. To enter the parade, riders were asked to bring at least one toy for a child age 10 and under. The Parade staging area was at Watson Village shopping center parking lot and surrounding areas at the White Jones Hardware and Sporting Goods on South Main Street. This annual event is an opportunity for riders to get together and visit, as many of the participants have been riding in this parade for many years. Those who were first timers were in awe of the numbers of riders and bikes in the staging area. Even though the ride started at 2 PM some riders arrived as early as 11 AM to get set up for the ride. The ride started promptly at 2 PM and followed Main Street to Mall Road to the Anderson Civic Center parking lot. Upon arrival at the Anderson Civic Center, motorcyclists carried their toys to the volunteers that waited where the toys were loaded onto trucks for donation to Anderson Cares and Shares that make sure they get to those e Carolina families in need. semi cooperative when the ride began with the temps in the 50’s and partly cloudy. As the day progressed it became cloudy with a threat of rain. An estimated 4,000 to 5,000 riders didn’t let the threat of rain stop them from participating as riders from North Carolina and South Carolina and as far as Tennessee rode with teddy bears and toys strapped to their bikes and sticking out of their saddlebags. All along the 5-mile route there were families of on-lookers taking pictures and waving to the bikers as they rode by wearing Santa hats on decorated bikes with wreaths and lights. Last reports state there were over 3 trucks full of toys. Bikers again show their true colors by supporting the children at Christmas. The Confederates Motorcycle Club and friends and the Anderson Independent Mail sponsored the toy parade again this year. Let’s take our hats off to everyone that helped out and rode in the parade. If you missed the parade this year, try to plan on attending next year. It will be a parade you won’t soon forget.

2015 Blue Knights Toys For Tots Run
By: Kickstart & Donut Sunday, December 6th of was a beautiful day to get out and ride to support the annual Blue Knights Toys For Tots Run. The Carolinas Full Throttle Magazine crew was on hand to cover this event, to take some pictures, and meet lots of friends. We gathered at the Pepsi plant in Columbia, SC at 11:00 am. Columbia Power Sports provided food and drinks. No Holds Barred provided entertainment. T-Shirts were available and ride pins and tokens were given out. The parade started at 1:00 pm leaving North Main Street headed to Colonial Life Boulevard to meet the Marines and Blue Knights. Over 4000 bikers delivered the gifts to children for Christmas. It was another successful year Thank you to everyone who participated to make this a Merry Christmas for so many.

Sandhills Children’s Center Annual Toy Run
By: Beth Gorman On November 21st I had the grand opportunity to be part of a motorcycle event in Rockingham, North Carolina. As some of you may know, Rockingham is not the largest city in North Carolina, but it is probably one of the closest to South Carolina State line. The event is known as the Sandhills Children’s Center Toy Run and is put together every year by several Motorcycle clubs and motorcycle Riding Clubs including: Wingmen MC, Carolinas Finest MC, Ghost Riders MC, Old Skool Tribe RC, Steel Wheels RC, Playaz Elite, and a local motorcycle shop know as Family Cycle owned and operated by a gentleman named Mark. lina, “The event started about three years ago here in Rockingham. They originally have an event (and still do) in Moore County and several motorcycle clubs approached them with the idea of starting one in Rockingham as well. Every year this ride keeps getting bigger and bigger. Before the ride began there was a small ceremony and a plague given to Mark owner of Family Cycle to show the gratitude the motorcycle clubs and organizations had for his help in this event. Santa led the ride with all of the other motorcyclists following. The first stop was the Sandhills Children’s Center where some children were offered free rides on motorcycles and the opportunity to “hang out” with motorcyclists. This year the event was able to raise around $2000 and that is not including all of the toys and games that were also donated. The check was given to Melanie Carnes who is the director of the Sandhills Children’s Center, and words could not describe how thankful she was for this event and the motorcycle community’s generosity for these children. The ride then continued from there to some local “watering holes” including the Rockingham VFW and Buddy Roes Private Bar. The ride ended at the Carolina’s Finest MC clubhouse where patrons were served beverages and some great home cooked food from the grill. All in all it was a great ride and I look forward to doing it again next year. Corey stated, “They are already planning for next year’s event and their goal is to increase the donations to $3000. His Laboring Few Toy Run By: WildThing As we pulled up and parked at Preacher Steve’s Leather in Thomasville, one of the starting points for the toy run, Popkorn and several others hollered to me “no snow in the forecast today!” That reminded me of the toy run a few year’s ago when my headlight wasn’t working and it started snowing hard after we arrived at the His Laboring Few Ministry fellowship hall. Instead, the run on December 5th this year was blessed with temps in the fifties and dry roads. Needless to say, I have been on this run for many years and it always blesses my heart to be able to help this ministry. His Laboring Few takes applications from families in need of Christmas presents and food for their children, getting the ages and numbers for each family. Then they set aside appropriate gifts for each family they are able to help, and have the parents pick up the gifts, so that their children receive from their parents. Truly a Godly procedure, in my opinion. This year, John Hill of Select Cycle in Greensboro, orchestrated a second group to start from Mac’s Speed Shop on Battleground Avenue. They rode over and met the group from Preacher Steve’s at the old Thomasville Ford lot and we all rode together to His Laboring Few Ministry location on Martin Luther King Drive in Thomasville. forty-one motorcycles in the parking lot, along with a slew of cages. Once inside, riders placed their toys under the Christmas tree and there were hot, home made soups and sandwiches on hand for them. There were sign-up sheets to qualify riders for door prizes and cash donation jars, the money to be used to purchase more toys. The Thirteenth Tribe was set up and entertained us with gospel music and Christmas songs. Popkorn led us in prayer for the children in need, a Toy Run tradition. The door prizes were awarded to the lucky ticket holders, and included t-shirts, caps, a bucket of bike cleaning stuff, a case of oil, all really useful items! The participants filtered out one by one to head home, but with a warm heart, knowing that our efforts would be a blessing to some families at Christmas.

She followed the plow for about forty-five minutes. Finally the driver of the truck got out and asked her what she was doing. And she explained that her dad had told her if she ever got stuck in a snowstorm, to follow a plow. The driver nodded and said, “Well, I’m done with the WalMart parking lot, do you want to follow me over to Best Buy now?”

An elderly lady phoned her telephone company to report that her telephone failed to ring when her friends called and that on the few occasions when it did ring, her pet dog always moaned right before the phone rang. The telephone repairman proceeded to the scene, curious to see this psychic dog or senile elderly lady. He climbed a nearby telephone pole, hooked on his test set, and dialed the subscriber’s house. The phone didn’t ring right away, but then the dog moaned loudly and the telephone began to ring. Climbing down from the pole, the telephone repairman found: 1. The dog was tied to the telephone system’s ground wire via a steel chain and collar. 2. The wire connection to the ground rod was loose. 3. The dog was receiving 90 volts of signaling current when the phone number was called. 4. After a couple of such jolts, the dog would start moaning and then urinate on himself and the ground. 5. The wet ground would complete the circuit, thus causing the phone to ring. …Which goes to show that some problems can be fixed by pissing and moaning. (This joke is only for those old enough to have used wired home phones!) I rear-ended a car this morning… the start of a really bad day. The driver got out of the other car, and he was a dwarf. He looked up at me and said, “I am not Happy!” So I said, “Well, which one are you then?” That’s how the fight started.
A blonde heard that baths in milk would make her beautiful. She left a note for her milkman to leave 25 gallons of milk. When the milkman read the note, he felt there must be a mistake. He thought she probably meant 2.5 gallons. So he knocked on the door to clarify the point. The blonde came to the door and the milkman said, “I found your note asking me to leave 25 gallons of milk. Did you mean 2.5 gallons?” The blonde said, “No, I want 25 gallons. I’m going to fill my bathtub up with milk and take a milk bath so I can look young and beautiful again.” The milkman asked, “Do you want it pasteurized?” The blonde said, “No, just up to my breasts. 2nd Annual 1900 Iron Man Bike Run Photo By: Chi Force
By: Trisha Beasley This 1900 Iron Man Run began at Southern Riders Motorcycle Club in Cumberland County, NC. The forty-hour ride is hosted to support the Shriners Children’s Hospital. Shriners Hospitals for Children provides specialized care to children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate. All these services are provided without regard to income. However, this facility is always in need of financial resources to provide these treatments for the children in need. All proceeds from the 1897 mile ride go to the hospital to support those less fortunate children. All riders gave a donation of at least $50 to participate in this noble and honorable event. And with great pride, they began a 40-hour ride in honor of these precious children that were supported, honored, and assisted by these riders. Donations are still being taken through the first of the year, so please find your local Southern Rider Motorcycle Club Member to make your donation. Any amount will be greatly appreciated! The ride then proceeded to Interstate 95 south to Jacksonville Florida. Then the riders picked up Interstate Highway 10 West to New Orleans, Louisiana. Their destination was a bar called
“The Dungeon”. Then, the ride took the same route back to the Southern Riders Clubhouse in Cumberland County, North Carolina. Certainly some celebration followed but was probably short lived as everyone was in need of a little rest! It was an honor to take a small part in a grand ride that supports our children and our future! Huge congratulations to Cumberland County Southern Riders Motorcycle Club. I will be looking forward to the 3rd Annual 1900 Iron Man Run.

Open Carry Or Conceal Carry? With all the unrest in America these days, many people are choosing to arm themselves. It is every citizen’s right to own a gun to defend their home, to hunt or sport shoot. I’m not going to debate the 2nd Amendment, mostly because I don’t want to mix politics with religion. It is completely legal to open carry a handgun, while nearly everyone prefers to carry their gun concealed. Matthew 5:14 says something about concealing our faith. (14:) Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill and cannot be hid. If we truly love and serve the Lord, our actions cannot be hidden. A lot like all the bikers who gave their time and effort
to help put toys under Christmas trees just a couple weeks ago, trust me, it does not go unnoticed. (15:) Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light to all that are in the house. (16:) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father, which is in heaven. How are you going to carry your faith and works in the New Year? Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not be weary in well doing”. So even with the Christmas season behind us, let’s continue to help others who are down on their luck, sick, lonely, or whatever. After all that’s what Jesus did during his ministry on earth, healing, feeding, and helping all who would believe. Happy New Year, and as always, when all else fails, try Jesus. Later. Monkey’s 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off By: Charles Holcombe, AKA Uwharrie Charlie Monkey’s chili cook-off was an awesome event this past December 5th! Brent Brown and Crew played some great songs to keep us entertained while we tasted some of the best chili I have ever had. There were about eight entries being: Chuck, Nub & Laura, Perk, Elsie, Stars & Bars, Leigh Ann, Rodney, and another un-named contestant. The judges took much longer to decide on a winner because all of them were so good and scrumptious! This was a heartwarming day as many of the people that attended had been missed for a while. They all eventually come home to roost. There was a lot of laughter and stories, while tales were told and there were even some tears of joy. I hope those tears weren’t from the chili! While looking at some other things going on like the raffle items I saw some really cool throwing darts. The raffle tickets for these items are $2 for one and $5 for three. The drawing will be December 28th and will help the Horse Protection Society so get them while they are hot! There is already a pot from another raffle to add to this one. The Brent Brown and crew put on a great show all afternoon into the dark hours. What could be better than great music, cold beer, chili, friends, and mixed drink specials? Let’s don’t forget the winners of Monkey’s Chili Cook-off! Chuck Valley took the best tasting (way to go Chuck) and Chuck Morefield
took the hottest! Great job guys! Mack won the 50/50 and Donald won the knives! I’m sure there were other prize winners and entries, just not known to me. The real winners are the great folks that came out today! You all are what make this a great place to unwind and get your groove on, not to mention the bands and food! Thus concludes another very successful event of many here at Stars And Bars, this one by Monkey Butt! I’m looking forward, as usual, to the next event here. By: Caroline I really enjoyed meeting the great folks with the Forgotten Sons MC on November 21st when they had this fundraiser. The goal was to be able to buy bicycles for the Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots. There was at least 12 different types of chili with all the fixings. I have found the best way to enjoy them is to put some of each in a bowl and dig in! It didn’t take long for a good crowd to show up and show their support. Some even brought brand new bikes to donate. I also spoke to the Forgotten Son’s President, Travis McCune, who told me how Marine Corps Veterans established Forgotten Sons as a club eight years ago. They help Veterans and their families with expenses or whatever is needed. For example, earlier this year, the Forgotten Sons raised around $2000 in a poker run for a Veteran’s son who needed medical care that was not covered by insurance. In addition to all the excitement going on with this event, the Forgotten Sons also presented a check for $3500 to Dale Beatty with Purple Heart Homes. This was raised in April to provide homes and home repair for Veterans. This is just one of many ways this group helps the community and their fellow Veterans. This was a fun, enjoyable, event and I appreciate these folks inviting me out and getting to learn more about them.
