appy New Year! Can you believe that is 2020? I hope that you had a joyous holiday season. In a week or so, everything will begin to return to “normal”. I enjoy the holidays, but I always look forward to this return to “normalcy”. As we look forward at the potential of the coming year, and work to make it a reality, there are many things that we can do to maximize the opportunities that will present themselves in the days, weeks, and months ahead. I would like to suggest a few that immediately come to mind. If you are a business owner or event promoter, one of the best things that you can do is to advertise in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. We have an ad campaign that will fit every budget and while we cannot promise what your ROI might be, many of our advertisers have let us know that advertising in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine has been very cost effective and continue to advertise for months and years. If you are a biker and would like to earn some extra money doing the things that bikers do, you should consider becoming a Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine representative. We need full and part time people who ride, play well with others, and would enjoy having more purpose to ride than just putting on down to your favorite watering hole. Our sales staff attend events, take pictures and submit information that finally become the story content in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. While out and about in the motorcycle community they also contact potential advertisers and explain the benefits of advertising in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. For this they are paid a 20% commission on all collected revenue. If you fall into one of these categories, and I sincerely hope that you do, please contact us at Lincoln@ftcarolinas.com any time or by calling 336885-5400 during business hours. Ask for “Killer.” Here’s to hoping that your new year becomes everything that you want it to. Mark Infield Editor

Outer Banks Harley-DavidsonTM: History In The Making

1903, an innovative and groundbreaking year for transportation. Wilbur and Orville Wright settled their newly created plane on the hills of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina and soon took flight making it the world’s first aircraft. Henry Ford had founded Ford Motor Company in June of that year as well. Also in Milwaukee, Wisconsin William Harley and Arthur Davidson made their first motorcycle available to the public. All 3 have made iconic steps in different areas of the country, but let’s jump back to North Carolina and fast forward over 100 years. In the early 2000s, the Outer Banks of the Tarheel state gained an iconic symbol of their own: Outer Banks Harley-DavidsonTM. Along with it came an even more iconic symbol: THE OUTER BANKS BIKE WEEKTM! Come join your fellow riders in the 1000s as they flock to 8739 Caratoke Highway in Harbinger for a wild, loud and “give ‘em hell” kind of time. Never mind the motorcycles, that’s a given. Just because you have a bike doesn’t make you a biker, you gotta look and sound like it too. Vendors for exhaust, leather apparel, helmets, boots and more will be creeping along the grounds of the dealership. Just like your bike gets thirsty, you get hungry. Bring an empty stomach when you ride up with your crew because there are also more food trucks and eats than you can shake an engine at. No party is complete without a good soundtrack. When the sounds of the V-twins aren’t ringing in your ears, you will be jamming out with only the best local artists from around the state. As you squander around inside and out, let’s say you see your next ride staring at you in the face and that old bike you pulled in on just isn’t doing it for ya anymore, they can fix that too. Over 150 motorcycles will shake the showroom and parking lot and you know what? They’ll be for sale so they can soon shake your neighbor’s house. All trade-ins are accepted and guess what? It doesn’t even have to be a motorcycle so yes you can bring the 1990s something car in your yard and they will give you a number on it so YOU can get some numbers on that new odometer. Outer Banks Harley-DavidsonTM isn’t the only place either, this party

is SO big in fact, that it is spread out at multiple locations to give you the full Outer Banks experience. All along the popular spots in The Outer Banks will be even more vendors, food, motorcycles and fun to fill up your day. Or should I say days… It’s called BIKE WEEK for a reason. We just simply can’t squeeze all of this into a few days. When’s the last time YOU had a week-long party? Exactly! It’s been a while which is more reason for you to join the party we’re throwing during the week of April 18th – 26th, 2020. Make sure to stop by the newest addition to the Outer Banks Harley-DavidsonTM family as well: First Flight Harley-DavidsonTM. All you got to do is GPS it on them smart phones of yours. I should know, I’m the one that added it to Google! Don’t forget about Nags Head Harley-DavidsonTM also. Not sure what that new bike will feel like before you buy it? Come see the Harley-DavidsonTM Demo Fleet at Nags Head Harley-DavidsonTM where you can ride the newest and baddest versions of your favorite Harley-DavidsonTM motorcycles. We will be carrying on until way after nightfall so sleep well the night before. You never know what you will see when you’re here either. Custom bikes and other wild rides have cracked the threshold of the dealership in the past, and to be honest, most of them weren’t even planned! Happen to have a family bored and sitting at home during the week? Bring them with you! The party is family friendly and there will be plenty for the little bikers to look at and do. But be careful because you know that one day, you will get your little one coming up to you and saying, “Mommy? Daddy? I want a motorcycle!”. Whether that’s sooner or later, they will be part of the good time too. So, pack up the car, load up your saddlebags, fill up your tank and hit the road. Those of you who are smart phone savvy, just type in Outer Banks Harley-DavidsonTM and it will lead you right to the front door. It’s not like you will be able to miss it anyway. Just listen for the rumble 2 miles North of the Wright Memorial Bridge. Did I mention there’s beer? Your tank gets empty too, grab a cold one with your boys and your “ole lady” and sit back and relax while Outer Banks Harley-DavidsonTM does the rest.

17th Annual Arzie Rogers Toy Run

By: Lloyd and Rose ovember 23rd was a wash out, but that did not stop hundreds of bikers from showing up on November 24th,the rain date for the 17th Annual Arzie Rogers Toy Run sponsored by Speedway HarleyDavidson. Many thanks to Speedway HOG Chapter, Independence Harley- Davidson, Tilley Harley-Davidson Salisbury, CMA Christian Ministry Association, CBA Christian Bikers. Association, Concord Indian Motorcycle Group, Jeep United Misfits, Wicked Jeeps, and all the individual bikers that came out in support. This is always one of our favorite toy rides that we have participated since 2006, when Lloyd got his Harley from Speedway. We are amazed at how Aimee Thompson, and Nicola Dow, Speedway HOG Chapter and so many others with help from Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Department and Concord Police Department make this an enjoyable and safe ride, every year. This year in her welcome and thank you speech before the

N

ride , Aimee, gave the group a few facts of the impact that is made by these groups and this ride. She stated that there are 8,380 people in Cabarrus County living in poverty and over 540 students are homeless. In the last year, Speedway HOG Chapter donated over 800lbs. of food for Christian ministry, and the money raised will help provide heat for families throughout the winter, and 600 children had a Christmas through the toys provided by this ride to The Salvation Army Empty Stocking Fund. So, not only did the bikers enjoy music by DJ Todd, and food from Shoney’s BBQ, they gave a smile to so many children at Christmas and throughout the year. We have been a part of this event for 13 years, many representing the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine, and we hope to be with you at the 18th Annual Arzie Rogers Toy Run helping to make more smiles and memories.

20th Annual Rutherford County Toy Run By: Wally Wersching n Sunday, November 24th, I rode to the Toy Run in Gastonia, and afterward I rode west to attend the 20th Annual Rutherford County Toy Run in Forest City, NC. I left Gastonia at about 1pm and followed I-85 into Rt 74. I exited to the right onto Rt 74A. The Toy Run started near Spindale, NC in the old Kmart parking lot behind Denny’s, and rode with a police escort through Rutherfordton, Spindale, and Forest City before ending at the old Rutherford County Moose Lodge. Former Rutherford County Moose Lodge members along with the Cleveland County Independent Bikers (CCIB) were responsible for the run to collect toys for area children so they have a pleasant Christmas. I arrived a little before 2pm and parked in front. Last year I got boxed in, so this year, I parked in front. I knew that they started the run at 1:30pm, so I’d catch them on the end of the run – the ride into the Moose lodge lot. I walked inside to put

O

a stack of the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazines on the table and talked with a few friends. I watched as “Pegleg” tended the large containers of soup. They had potato soup, and vegetable soup, plus corn bread, crackers, and tea. It was a great menu after a chilly motorcycle ride. It really warmed everybody up. There was a table full of cups of sweet tea ready to serve the thirsty riders as they arrived. I heard the rumble of motorcycles in the distance, and then

lodge. Everybody had smiles on their faces because they knew that they were going to make some young child happy on Christmas morning. You couldn’t ask for a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon. It was a rewarding experience – as always. I left a little before 3pm. It was a full day of people giving to children in need. We were all glad that the weather cooperated. The children will have a lot of toys this Christmas.

PERFORMANCE BY MARK the sharp sound of the police car’s sirens. The run was coming in. As I stood taking pictures, I noticed a lot of friends ride by – some waved, others didn’t even see me, they were concerned about where to park their bikes. The ride into the parking lot became a little chaotic at times, because there were about 160 bikes in the run this year. I saw Mike from Full Throttle Biker Church ride in. He waved as he passed. That was the last time I saw Mike that day. I walked up and down the long line looking for him but couldn’t find him. He must have gotten into the lodge quickly before the line formed. I noticed that there was a custom Victory Cross-Country in the mix of Harleys and Harley wannabees, along with a Victory Kingpin. Victory motorcycles always stand out. After the bikes were parked in the lot, the bikers lined up to take their toys into the Moose lodge and get the free food. they formed a long line that wound around the building before it went into the lodge. Later, they would have door prize drawings along with the results of the 50/50 drawing. I talked with a few friends as they passed going into the

13th Annual Barry “Ole Dog’ Glenn Toys For Tots Toy Run

By: Rose and Lloyd n December 7th, the 13th Annual Barry “Ole Dog’ Toys For Tots Toy Run began at Double D Burnout Saloon. However, this was not the true start of this day. There had been several events throughout 2019 starting with Christmas in July, Sunday Fundays for Toys for Tots, and 50/50s donated to support this day. There was a bicycle night. There also was an appreciation party for David and Missie Thompson, to celebrate all they do to help their community, there were three bands, with a $5.00 cover, proceeds which went to Toys for Tots. As always, the day was festive and full of friends. So many people pull together to make this event a success for the chil-

O

dren, in honor of an icon that began this ride with the Marine Corps 13 years ago, “Barry ‘Olé Dog’ Glenn”. Larry Boyles and Greg Ross made the ride entertaining and safe, with Sgt. Bryan Hurtado and Capt. Ulises Alejandro there representing the Marine Corps. Many thanks to Victor Jones of Royal Limousines for always donating the party bus, for those who don’t ride bikes. Our ride to The Old Watering Hole was safe and filled with fun and great scenery. A huge “thank you” to The Marsh Pitt guys for all their time

and wonderful cooking. A special thank you to Baxter’s for all the toys and bicycles donated. Of course, Angie Crow and Cindy Welborn always help make everything go smoothly. As every year, the trailer was filled with bicycles and toys for children who may otherwise have no reason to smile Christmas morning. So our wish from Double D Burnout Saloon, The Marine Corps, and all of us at the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine, to all that participated and gave of your time and help, may your hearts be overwhelmed with the joy you gave.

17th Annual Greenville “Toys For Tots” Toy Run By: Wally Wersching he 17th Annual “Toys for Tots” Toy Run was held on November 17th. Registration started at 11 am at Heritage Park in Simpsonville, SC. The run started at 1 pm and ended at the Greenville Harley-Davidson dealership. Live music played on the Chrome Drive Stage from 2- 4pm. There was a 50/50 drawing at 4 pm. Food, and drinks were available, and Santa Claus was there! I received an email inviting me to the event. I had never been to this toy run before, so I had to look up where the Heritage Park in Simpsonville was before I left. Sunday morning came, and the temps were chilly – in the lower 40’s. I knew that it would be about an hour and a half ride. I had been on a PGR Mission in Simpsonville last year, so I knew how to get to Simpsonville. The Heritage Park was on the south side

of town. I left home at 10:30am heading south toward I-85 on local back roads. I was glad that I wore my old insulated bibs. I wasn’t cold until the last half hour of the ride. I rode on I-85 heading south until I exited at Rt 14. I turned left to go south. The road was mostly two-lane as it passed many gated communities on the way to Simpsonville. When the road turned left, I was on Main Street. I knew from the event flyer that Heritage Park was at 861 SE Main Street. I rode through the center of Simpsonville. There were. I could see the headlights of a few other bikes behind me in my mirror. I kept looking for Heritage Park, and all of a sudden, there was a big sign on the left, so I pulled in. I was surprised to see a lot of bikes parked on the left. I pulled into a spot on the right because I wasn’t planning on participating in the run. As I was looking for the registration table, I met a young man with the Victory Kingpin whom I met at the Breast Cancer Run, and the couple who ride Indian motorcycles. Other than them, I didn’t know anybody. I did meet quite a few interesting bikers while I walked around. Maybe I’ll meet them again at the next event in Greenville. That’s how friendships start. I didn’t realize that the Heritage Park was so big, there were bikes parked on every road in the park with more riding in every minute. I would imagine that there were over 1,000 bikes – maybe even 1,500. It was much larger than I expected. I was told that over 100 bikes were lined up at 9am - ready for the ride. Some of the bikes were decorated with a Christmas theme while some of the bikers were dressed as Santa and Mrs. Claus. One Santa was dancing with one of his elves. It was a very festive event. Most of the bikes had presents strapped to them. Some had large stuffed animals mounted to the bike like a passenger. One bike had so much that it was hard to see the motorcycle under it all. It appeared to be a VW Trike. One lady was walking around carrying two small dogs wearing goggles. Another biker had his wife on the back, and two large teddy bears in a trailer that looked like a sleigh. I really enjoyed seeing all the different ways people were able to get into the Christmas spirit. At 1pm, the run started. The police and road guards (from the Greenville H-D HOG Chapter) left first to block the traffic

at all the intersections along the way. Then the rest took off with a roar. I took pictures as they left. After the last bike left, I started to head home back the way I had come. I ran right into the back of the run. The road was a four-lane, and the bikes were in the left lane. I thought they were turning up ahead, so I continued in the right lane. Before I knew it, the bikes merged into my lane, and I was in the middle of the long line of bikes – not at all where I wanted to be. People on the side of the road along the way were taking pictures, and waving. I was concentrating on keeping my distance, and not veering to the left into the bike next to me. I was very uncomfortable, but I managed. I figured that I’d peel off to the right onto Rt 14 when the ride went straight., but the ride also turned right onto Rt 14, and headed north. After a few miles on the two-lane road, they turned left onto Roper Moun-

tain Road – I stayed on Rt 14 north. The traffic was backed up for over a mile. Cars were turning around and heading back. The ones near the back had no idea what was happening. I followed Rt 14 until I turned north on I-85. I was pleasantly surprised to see that all the construction around Spartanburg had been completed. The road is very smooth. The original speed limit was 70 mph but because of the construction it had been lowered to 60 mph. Now everybody was passing me while I was doing 75 mph - just like it used to be before the construction. The weather had become very comfortable during the ride in South Carolina, but it turned chilly again once I got into North Carolina. I made it home before 3pm. It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I will definitely go again next year.

11th Annual Cleveland County CBA Ride To The Shelters

By: Wally Wersching n Sunday, December 8th, The Cleveland County CBA/ ABATE held their 11th Annual Ride to the Men’s and Women’s Shelters of Cleveland County. The ride originated at the Shelby VFW Post 4066 on Sumter Street and left at 2pm with a police escort. The donations of toiletries, cleaning supplies, and other simple things listed on the flyer were collected at two places before the ride. When Cindy and I went shopping last Wednesday, we bought a bag of toiletries for the shelter. Other than the shaving cream and razors, they could be used by any man, woman, or child. I dropped them off at Keith’s Body Shop prior to the ride. The other drop off place was the VFW Post between 12:00 and 1:00 the day of the ride. On the day of the ride, I rode “Miss Vickie” to the VFW Post, It was a beautiful clear sunny day with temps in the low 50’s. I arrived about 1:15. I was surprised to see the small parking lot almost full of bikes. I parked “Miss Vickie” away from all the other bikes because I didn’t want her to be in the way when the others participating in the ride left. There was a trailer hooked to a truck with all the donated items in it. When I walked around the trailer, I bumped into “Smitty”. I almost didn’t recognize him because he has let his hair grow long. I told him that he looks like a hippy. He didn’t

O

ride today because when he was getting his bike ready, he noticed that his back tire was bald with the cords showing. It was a wise decision to not ride. Even though it was a relatively short ride, it could have caused an accident. There was quite a mixture of different motorcycle clubs and ministries there. Almost every local club was represented. I really enjoy coming to these events where everybody is there for the same reason; to help people in need. Haley was in charge. She’s the face of the Cleveland County CBA/ABATE. Her smile makes everyone feel welcome. She was on her Sportster ready to lead the ride. More and more bikers rode in. There were over 40 bikes so far. Keith had contacted the police department to request an escort. The group was too big to just ride to the shelters. One of the riders who came was a young lady riding a “Blue Ice” 2009 Victory Kingpin that had been heavily modified. She bought the bike from Cherokee Cycles in Greer, SC – the same place “Miss Vickie” originally came from. I had met her years ago when the bike was stock. Since then, her husband added a fairing, and a Victory Cross-country rear fender with saddlebags. The color of the bike is the same as the blue on “Miss Vickie”. As it got closer to 2pm, Haley got everybody together for a group photo. It was a little comical. The first pose was with the trailer behind them. After everybody was in position for the photo , it was determined that the sun was in the camera lens. Then Haley got everybody to move to the other side by the bikes with the sun in their faces, and not in the camera lens. After the picture was perfect, there was a prayer before the ride. Then the two police cars were ready to go. The truck towing the trailer and a couple vans full of gifts for the shelters were the first to leave. Then Haley and Keith, followed by all the other bikes, roared out of the lot. After they all left, the Sunday afternoon was quiet again. I left and headed home. It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon with friends helping people in need.

C.L. Carter’s Benefit Ride By: Chi

O

Saturday, November 30, 2019, some of Bladen County’s finest bikers were in attendance for C.L. Carter’s benefit ride. C.L. has been diagnosed with liver cancer. As everyone knows, the cost of treatment is horrendous, so his fellow riders thought it best to ride for a great cause! The event took place at Allen Brothers’ hunting preserve at 200 Allen Brothers Drive in Bladenboro, NC. All bikers were ready and in place and kickstands were up at10:30 a.m. The weather was great! Motorcycles and sunshine are always a wonderful combination and seemed to put a smile on the face of everyone there. C.L was there to see them ride out; The ride was underway as the bikers and riders enjoyed a nice long country ride. The plate sale fundraiser at Allen Brothers began at 11a.m. The bikers began returning to Allen Brothers around 1 p.m. They were all eager to get their chicken and rice plate with all the fixings; yes, you know there was cake! Fellowship and friendship permeated the entire venue, inside and out! Entertainment was provided by Len Dallas. There was even singing and dancing by some of the crowd. What a great way to spend the day; riding and supporting a brother and friend. n

PGR Mission For Dean “Cigar” Rogers By: Wally Wersching he family of Garland “Cigar” Dean Rogers invited the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) to stand for him like he stood for us. He passed away on November 23rd at the age of 84. Mr. Rogers was born in Gaffney, SC in 1935, and retired from Timken Company and the United States Air Force. Ronnie Taylor would be the Ride Captain for this mission. On November 26th, the visitation and service were held at Blakely Funeral Home and Crematory in Gaffney. The interment with military honors was just down the road in Frederick Memorial Gardens. The PGR Mission was to escort Mr. Rogers from the funeral home to the cemetery and stand a flag line while the military honors were rendered. I decided to go directly to the cemetery. Even though it was

T

only a short ride, I do not like to ride in groups for any reason. I arrived at the cemetery at about 11 am and parked near the Blakely Funeral Home tent but far enough away so that “Miss Vickie” wouldn’t be in the way when the mourners arrive. I was surprised to see the US Air Force honor guard already there. Three of them were practicing the three volleys but without any blanks – just going through the motions. I walked up and started a conversation. They were all Airmen with the oldest 28, and the youngest 20. The oldest commented on how much he liked “Miss Vickie”. He wants a bike, but his wife doesn’t want him to ride. He said that he’ll get one anyway. Good luck with that! I gave him a couple copies of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle magazines to read on the way back to Shaw AFB east of Columbia,

SC – where they were stationed. I learned that they attend a funeral as an honor guard almost every day. That’s their job. It was very interesting talking with the young soldiers. Things haven’t changed that much since I was in the Navy except, they are getting a lot more money than I ever did. Soon, Ronnie drove up in the SUV that carried the flags for the flag line. Then we heard the rumble of the motorcycles, and the bikers appeared at the entrance of the cemetery. I tried to take a few pictures as they rode up. It was difficult from where I was standing. Once we got the flags, we formed the flag line, and the casket was carried to its place under the tent. We all saluted as it passed – knowing that Mr. Rogers was in it, and he deserved our respect. The graveside service went as normal. Two airmen folded the flag into a triangle, the three airmen of the honor guard fired the three volleys, and one of the airmen who folded the flag played taps on the bugle. Then they quietly walked to their van and left. Ronnie dismissed us soon after, and we walked to the SUV to put the flags away. As I was standing there talking to Ronnie and the other men, Mr. Roger’s son came up to me and thanked me for being there for his father. It was an honor for me to be there. We all talked for a minute or two as I gave them copies of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. Some of them were going to stop for lunch before heading home. I left to head home. After I arrived, I took Cindy out for a nice lunch. It was a great way to spend a retirement morning, and I’ll do it again soon.

Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group Motorcycle Giveaway

By: Shannon Rights very November 1st, a lucky rider wins a free motorcycle courtesy of Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group. We have been giving away a motorcycle each year for over ten years to one of the many motorcyclists who meet us somewhere out on the road or at one of the many motorcycle events that we sponsor or attend. Each year we try to choose a different make and model to give away, and we make sure that we purchase the motorcycle from a dealership in the Carolinas or Virginia. This year was no different. We gave away a 2019 Ducati Scrambler Icon in atomic tangerine and silver that we purchased from Motorcycles of Charlotte. We unveiled the bike at our booth at the Easyriders show in January of 2019. Lincoln Infield was the first person to see her, other than the staff at the dealership and the Motorcycle Law Group. From there she traveled all over NC to various events that we attended. Many potential owners sat on her and talked about what they would do when they won her. Somehow, we managed to keep anyone from riding off into the sunset on her, including us. On November 1st we drew one lucky name out of over 18,000 entries. We then put the wheels into motion to contact the winner and get the paperwork completed to transfer ownership. We met Jay Wright, who is Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group’s State Coordinator for South Carolina, on a chilly morning in Rockingham, NC and handed over the bike for the rest of its journey down to Suck Bang Blow in Murrell’s Inlet South Carolina where it would be given to the lucky rider. Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group has a longstanding partnership with Suck Bang Blow, and they graciously allowed us to have the reveal and after party there. On November 22nd we handed over ownership to Mike Moyar of Murrell’s Inlet. Tom McGrath, the founder of the Motorcycle Law Group, presented Mike with the keys to his new motorcycle. If you are from the Murrell’s Inlet area, then chances are that you know either Mike or his wife Susan. We have started preparations for the 2020 bike giveaway. We haven’t settled on a bike yet, but we will be sure to update

Ride For Sherry Pell

By: Rose and Lloyd herry, a feisty lady with a beautiful smile and attitude, is loved by so many. In June, Sherry went to the emergency room and found out she had two aneurysms, and a kidney disease that required dialysis. On September 28th, friends got together and held a poker run to help raise money for Sherry’s medical expenses. The ride began at JR’s Corner Tavern. The 1st stop was Double D Burnout Saloon, the 2nd stop was The American Legion Post 87 in High Point, the 3rd stop was at Lucky Bill’s Tavern. Then back to JR’s for food, a 50/50, raffles, and an auction. Entertainment was provided by DEX DJ, Dexter Jackson. Special thanks to Evan Marsh (The Marsh Pitt) for cooking the great chicken, and Wayne Hill for donating all the chicken. So many were involved in this, but thanks to Linda Chadwick for helping with registration, and Liz Kennedy for selling raffle tickets, “Mad Dog” Tony King for being the auctioneer. Thanks to Laurie Elks with helping to get such great items for the auction, and The Amish Trading Post for all they gave. Always a special thanks to the bikers that help so much, and all the blockers for a safe ride. It was a beautiful day, and the biker family never fails to come out and help their own.

Wingmen MC, Fayetteville NC 37th Annual Toy Run By: Chi

T

Wingmen MC of Fayetteville hosted their 37th Annual Toy Run on Saturday, December 7th. The Wingmen and their supporters met up at The Doghouse Bar & Grill at 2 pm for their annual toy run. There were a number MC’s as well as independent riders ready to toy up. All riders gave an unwrapped toy as their ticket to ride! The parking lot was packed with bikers, some of them with teddy bears, others with baby dolls, matchbox cars, and toys of all kinds. As they rode in to register, you could see the toys strapped to their bikes with the joy of giving. Each motorcyclist displayed the spirit of Christmas and a heart of gold! Santa was also there wearing his Wingmen vest, posing for pictures, on his motorcycle of course! He said that the reindeer were given the day off. The toys were collected and placed in the bed of trucks. The Wingmen work in service of this cause each year. All proceeds and toys go to Fayetteville Urban Ministry to help local area children have a better Christmas. What a great way to bring in the first Saturday of December! After a short time of celebration and pictures with a giant gorilla, the bikers took off and headed to Dirt Bag Ales. This ride is always a success and the Wingmen MC definitely deserve much respect for the number of years they have faithfully hosted this charity toy run. Their efforts pay off and the area children are uplifted as a result of their diligence. Cheers to a bountiful day! he

Maniax RC Gives To Local Families By: Duane T. Gibbs Photo by Alan Dockery

I

t was another great year and turn

out for the Maniax Riding Club of Catawba County, NC. A couple weeks before Christmas we had our Support Your Local Family holiday party. It’s coming up on 5 years since the club started and one of our first missions was to help as many local families as possible have a great Thanksgiving and Christmas and they sure did deliver. There were several families along with great food and Santa Claus to give lots of gifts for the entire family along with holiday cheer! Over the years, the club has helped in so many other ways like by raising money for Adam’s Army, Walkin’ Roll, and Snipe’s Orchard Home. We all know when it comes to bikers, they have the biggest heart and always are the first to step up to do whatever needs to be done to help serve our local community.

Maniax Riding Club says, “As long as they are a club, they will always continue to help support and serve our local organizations and families in need”.

Nazareth Children’s Home Christmas Party/Toy Run By: Darby Dillard

W

Christmas Party/Toy Run! Bright blue sky and high in the upper fifties, Perfect! We gathered at Speedway Harley-Davidson, in Concord and when the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Department arrived, we gathered for the mandatory safety meeting and then 35 motorcycles and 5-6 Mustangs, a Dodge Challenger, and a couple of other passenger cars headed to Nazareth Children’s Home. Concord Police Department assisted with the intersections. Hats off to both organizations! We were to rendezvous at Bostian Heights Volunteer Fire Department, but only one rider was there. Darrin Miller, of Smiley’s Cycles of Rockwell, who is part of “The Rockwell Gang” waved us on by and he fell in line, and on to Nazareth we rode. The Party was actually at East Rowan YMCA this year. What a blessing that was. It was a fantastic place for us to be able to have our Christmas Party! When we arrived, Nazareth Residents, Cottage Parents, and YMCA Staff greeted us as we rolled in. Once inside, we had our greeting and a full Christmas meal (provided by Uptown Catering) with ham, turkey and all of the fixings! Music and singing were provided by Tim Misenhiemer. Santa and Mrs. Claus made an appearance and we closed with our group rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas. It’s more like a shouting match between the 12 groups, during the singing, but it was a lot of fun and joy! I urge you to come to our events at Nazareth Children’s Home that Bikers With A Cause along with Cases For A Cause put together. We need your support and it only takes a little to help put some much needed joy back into the lives of the Residents at Nazareth Children’s Home. So if you’d like to be placed on our contact list, please send your email to Darby Dillard at ddawgsta222@yahoo.com. It will only be used to notify you of upcoming Quarterly Birthday Parties and our Christmas Party/Toy Run at Nazareth Children’s Home. I can’t say thank you enough to all of the wonderful volunteers that rolled up their sleeves and pitched in and worked very hard to pull this off! THANK YOU!! 29th Annual Conover School Toy Run

Story by Alan Dockery Photos By Alan Dockery & Paulette Mojica

C

ool enough for winter gear but clear and warming, made

the first Saturday in December perfect riding weather. Bikers across the Hickory, NC, area rolled into the Wizard Saloon for the 29thAnnual Toy Run to benefit the Conover School. Within a couple hours, more than 400 bikes packed the bar and nearby parking lots. Just after noon the riders roared down Old Highway 70 with Arnold on his beautiful custom trike, towing Santa and The Snowman in the lead . This toy run supports the Conover School, one of the state’s premier special education schools. What makes it different from other toy runs is instead of bringing toys to a central collection point, teachers select specific toys based on each child’s wants, needs and abilities. Bikers pay the tab through a

charity managed by Mike Dyson. This is a unique toy run and the coolest that I’ve been on in my many years riding by far. On the Conover School Toy Run, bikers see the kids they are helping. As we rode into the Newton-Conover High School parking lot, the cheering kids and families lined the sidewalk. Bikers and families gathered in the gym to see the best part of this toy run. What makes it so special for the kids, their families and the bikers is what the kids give back to us; a heart-warming Christmas Show. Each year the children of the Conover School show their appreciation by putting on a Christmas pageant, singing and acting out songs of the season. This is such a touching show that even the most macho bikers could be seen wiping an occasional tear.

L-R: Becky Dyson, Angel Thompson (Mike’s daughter) and Mike Dyson address the crowd at Newton-Conover School. Not only do I see bikers I’ve known for decades, but teachers and staff from the school who have retired or moved on to other jobs are at the Toy Run Christmas Show. They have to come back to see their students and biker buddies. One who I hope to see back is Phyllis Pegram, Conover School Principal. For the past seven years, she has led the school we care so much about. “Yes, I will be retiring July 1, so this was my last biker’s toy run as principal,” Phyllis said. “I will certainly come back to be a part of it after retirement.” “It is amazing that the Wizard Lounge and Mike Dyson have sponsored the Biker’s Toy Run for 29 years. They do fundraisers all year long to make sure that each child gets a visit from Santa Claus and gets a gift. Mike Dyson has a big heart and makes sure that Conover School gets what they need. We can never repay him for the support and love he gives us,” Phyllis said. I love how they end the show now by inviting the bikers to join the students for a last song and dance. The Christmas trees were decorated with ornaments made by the students for the bikers to take home. Most of the riders returned to the Wizard Saloon for some real tasty chicken soup and sandwiches. Then Mike and his staff gave away a bunch of cool door prizes and auctioned off some nice items.

14th Annual Red Knights NC #7 & Burlington HOG Chapter Toy Run

By: Scott Wicker old, windy, and damp weather conditions did not hinder a great turn out on Saturday, November 16th, as the Alamance County Chapter of the Red Knights NC #7 and the Burlington HOG Chapter #3168 combined to hold their 14th Annual Toy Run for the 2019 Holiday Season. Over 15 bikes and riders braved the cold temperatures and met at Down Home Harley-Davidson to start the run. Down Home Harley-Davidson provided coffee and doughnuts to prepare everyone for the stops that were safely made at participating

C

fire stations and businesses along the planned route. The fire station pick up points throughout Alamance County were Snow Camp, Eli-Whitney, Swepsonville, Mebane, Haw River, Faucette, North Central, Altamahaw-Ossipee, Elon Station #18, Burlington Headquarters Fire Station, Alamance Rescue Base, Graham Headquarters Fire Department, and of course the toys that were collected at Down Home HarleyDavidson. Everyone ate lunch at the Faucette Fire Department with Domino’s Pizza being served and delivered on time by Cheryl Bullis. Mike and Hannah Giroux provided the drinks for lunch as well. Over 20 boxes of toys were delivered to the Alamance County Christmas Cheer Office in Burlington and over $275.00 was collected and will be distributed in Alamance County through the efforts of the toy run. A love offering of $300 was taken up for Chapel Hill fireman and part time Graham firefighter Jimmy Lambert and his family. Jimmy has recently been going through some health concerns. Everyone had a great time and a safe ride. If you missed out on this year’s ride, make plans to be there next year. A big “Thank You” goes to the members of the Burlington H.O.G. Chapter and the Red Knights NC Chapter #7 for organizing the event. Both organizations would like to thank everyone that participated and made contributions for such a great cause. A big “Thank You” is also due to Down Home Harley – Davidson for their support. We appreciate the fire departments and the Alamance County Rescue Units for keeping the intersections safe. A great big “Thank You” goes to Alamance County Sheriff’s Deputy, Josh Kelly, for escorting the ride along with the Graham Police Department for their assistance in blocking some of the intersections. We can’t thank everyone at Mr. Thrifts enough for donating a big box truck to help collect all the toys. Again, “Thank You” to everyone that made this year’s toy run such a huge success! Remember, ride safe in 2020!

Forgotten Sons MC Toys For Tots Toy Run

By: Lincoln Infield n December 7, a crowd of at least 70 motorcycles gathered outside the Forgotten Sons MC club house in WinstonSalem for their annual Toys For Tots Run. The sun was out, the chrome was shining, and everyone was up for a good time. Most of the hard work of gathering toys and donations had already been done, so all that was left to do was celebrate that hard work and have a little fun riding on a beautiful Saturday. Like most other toy runs in the area, it was a group effort. The Forgotten Sons MC, Biker Trash Nation, Baggerz Saloon and many more had been busy for the last month collecting

O

bicycles, toys and donations and most everything had already been stored in a warehouse waiting for the day that it would be distributed to help bring joy to kids on Christmas morning. Kickstands went up at 12:30 and the bikes thundered out of the clubhouse parking lot en route to hit three area bars: Rizzos, Pine Tree Tavern, and Baggerz Saloon. As mentioned, the season’s work was practically done although a support vehicle and trailer did pick up a few extra bicycles and toys from these stops. This toy run was not short on fun or excitement. Every stop was a party and we even had to do a little tire kicking when some parts fell off of one of the bikes on the ride. Pine Tree was the second stop and provided the background for the group shot. Also, while on the ride Wayne and Vandee of Biker Trash Nation drew a ticket for Tammy Harrison to win a hotel room during the upcoming spring Myrtle Beach Bike Week. Congrats Tammy! The final stop of the day was Baggerz Saloon and was also the start of the Biker Trash Nation’s 4th Anniversary Party where live music, free food and good times ran late into the night. Congrats to Wayne, Vandee and the rest of the Nation on this momentous occasion! A few weeks after the ride, the Forgotten Sons MC packed up all the Christmas loot and reported the totals to be: 244 bicycles, 16 donation boxes slammed with toys, and 30 plus bags of stuffed animals and toys that weren’t able to fit in donation boxes! A reserve estimate of well over $20,000.00 in total value! I tell you, this is a fine example of how to do the holidays right! Big thanks to the Forgotten Sons MC, Biker Trash Nation, and all others involved. A great day with a little bit of riding and a whole lot of fun was had and it was all topped off with such a huge gift to the Toys For Tots.

Something New? Bros and Bro-ettes,

T

hanksgiving has come and gone, now

Christmas is gone and we’re facing a new year. Are you really thankful for what you have? Some are more thankful than others. If you woke up this morning that’s a big thing to be thankful for. Families get together at the holiday’s, have a big meal do a little bragging about what they have and want. For us, these past couple of years have been a little trying, In and out of hospitals, surgeries for us both, but we can’t give up because the Lord ain’t through with us. The first thing out of your mouth when your eyes open is ‘thanks for letting me see another day’. Around Christmas, when you get together with your family you should be thankful for what family you have left. Some have given up on God because of a loved one is gone. Look at it this way, He hasn’t given up on you, you may think so. Psalms 100-4 says “Enter into His gates with Thanksgiving and into His courts with praise, be thankful to Him and bless His name”. Christmas has done come and gone by the time this magazine comes out, and I hope everyone had a blessed and Merry Christmas. You know people are trying to make it Happy Holidays, but it’s not about a fat man in a red suit (nothing wrong with that), but it’s about the birth of Christ. I want you to know the real meaning of Christmas: Luke 2:

7-14. (7) “And she brought forth her first born son wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room in the Inn. (9) And behold an angel of the Lord stood before them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. (10) Then the angel said to them, Do not be afraid, for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. (11) For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior who is Christ the Lord. (12) And this will be the sign to you. You will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths laying in a manger. (13) And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly host praising God saying (14) Glory to God in the highest And on earth peace, good will toward men.” A new year is fixing to start. Why don’t you start it on a good note by asking the Savior to come into your life and give a new meaning to the new year? Not saying it will be easy because the closer you are to God, the harder the devil has to work. If you don’t like your life living for God, the devil will always take you back, but for what? In His Wind, Ms. Pat

L-R: President “Hangman”, Marie Huskey ( Mary Poppins), winner of the 4-wheeler, and Herb a 35 year member of the Windjammers By: Tiffany Turpin ecember 14th was originally forecast to be rainy and bleak, but by noon, the sun had broken through the clouds and blazed in a Carolina blue sky. It was a good day to welcome the 31st Annual Windjammers Toy Run. The Cleveland Mall parking lot was filled with hundreds of motorcycles, their chrome glittering in the sunlight, all ready to go on the run. Toys were collected in the back of a large truck and dozens of brightly colored packages filled the truck bed. Men and women in leather jackets and blue jeans mingled, talking to friends and waiting to line up on their bikes and head out to Aaron’s House, a home for children in foster care, in Lattimore. There, they would distribute the toys among the kids and share some Christmas joy. Although it is a Windjammers Toy Run, bikers from various clubs around the region come to participate. It’s a wonderful thing the bikers do for the community every year and for the lives that it impacts.

22nd Annual Brenner Children’s Hospital Toy Run By: Lincoln Infield

A

dreary morning with showers

and grey skies couldn’t stop what would be one of the biggest Brenner Children’s Hospital Toy Run yet. When you are speaking in terms of a very successful 22 year old ride, it’s pretty amazing to continually top the record numbers. The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine has attended and supported this ride since its inception. Mark and Molly have been to the majority of them, but my wife Maggie and I have ridden in the last 5 at least. In terms of weather, this was also one of the best days for the toy run as well! Despite a wet start, the temps were in the 50’s and the sun was out, a far sight better than 28 and snowing a couple years ago! I like to get to registration early because this is always such a cheerful ride and we get to hang out with a lot of our friends at Riding High Harley-Davidson for a bit. Riding High always has a breakfast laid out and this year the Painted Plate had provided some delicious sausage biscuits, sweets and beverages! The customer lounge was packed with leather clad riders sharing in the merriment of the day and scarfing some eats! A cup of hot coffee was definitely in order! It was hard to make a few feet without running in to more of our friends. We stopped and snapped a picture of the Forgiven Sons MC, had a few laughs with our friends from the Triad Bad Lasses and Full Throttle Biker Church, grabbed a bite to eat with the United Riders, got a group shot of the Chrome Angelz Paradise Sisters and more!

This event is not short on Christmas Spirit. Shannon Rights and Tyler Styles from McGrath Law Firm were handing out goody bags in the registration line. Shannon and her bike were decked out in for the holidays with a green elf shirt on candy cane leggings and a Christmas tree on her sissy bar! There were multiple decorated bikes and well-dressed Santa’s riding that day as well! Riders in Santa hats are a common sight too, I even dusted off my Griswold’s Marty Moose Santa hat for the occasion! Bob and Ginger Karney were on hand as well with their four legged elf, Sunny, and their brand new 2020 Karney Law Calendar that is a yearly “must have”. When it got closer to ride time a few of the Riding High folks started parading out all the toys that were destined to bring joy to

www.

FullThrottleMagazine.com

the kids at Brenner Children’s Hospital. One of the Santas supervised as box after box was loaded into the van until it was packed to the roof. Now that the toys were packed up, it was time for some pre-ride announcements from Riding High Owner, Mark Wheelihan. The amount of LEO escort for this ride was impressive. Motor officers from High Point, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Burlington police departments, as well as Guilford and Davidson County sheriff’s departments were all working together to provide a smooth ride to the hospital. One of the spectacular elements of this ride is how the LEOs completely shut down I-40 for us. Once the ride gets going, we are the only vehicles heading west on I-40. It can’t be easy, but they handle it and it makes for an easy passage and a I’m sure it’s a spectacle for onlookers. The Brenner Children’s Hospital had hot chocolate and cookies waiting for us when we arrived. We found our way into one of the conference rooms and Mark Wheelihan thanked all the sponsors and riders and announced that it was the biggest toy and donation haul yet. Along with the van full of toys, nearly $25,000 was raised! The toys and money not only provide gifts for the patients and families at Christmas but help keep spirits bright all throughout the whole year. The final act of the day was bringing all the toys into the Hospital. There was a huge, beautiful Christmas tree in the lobby and the van load of toys was set up in front of it. It was a sight that got you all warm and fuzzy just in time to get back on the bikes and head out. Keep your eye on the Cruisin’ Calendar for the date of the 23rd Annual Brenner Children’s Hospital Toy Run. It’s always in early December, and the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine is sure to be there. Huge thanks to Mark and his staff at Riding High Harley-Davidson who work hard gathering donations and toys throughout the year. Also, a pat on the back to all the sponsors and riders who come out every year to make this a special day.

Joker Fifty Fourth Annual Toy Drive By: Len Montgomery t’s Christmas time and that means a lot of things for a lot of people. For many, it’s a time of getting together with friends and family to exchange gifts and overeat. But for some, it’s a time of struggle. Struggle to keep the lights on, food on the table, and yes, a struggle to put a gift from Santa under the tree for the kids. Joker Fifty recognizes this struggle, and with the help of friends and their biker family, undertake to brighten a few Christmas mornings by putting a twinkle in the eyes and smiles on some young faces in Johnston County. And so, the Joker Fifty Fourth Annual Toy Drive came to fruition on Saturday, December 14th at Pitcher’s Bar in Benson, NC. pull out all the stops. With the donation of an unwrapped toy (or a $10 cash donation), we were treated to BBQ, corn, lima beans, slaw, potatoes (all prepared by Danny Chatham) and a spread of deserts that was too massive even for this fat boy to sample it all! Joker Fifty had also arranged for “Axial Flow”, a local band containing one of their own members, to play a couple of sets for those in attendance and they ROCKED the place! If you like hard rock, you need to hear this band. Watch for them to be near you or ride out of town to where they are playing. You will not be disappointed. They had the crowd up and dancing and rocking in their seats. After the last set there was a DJ spinning your favorite songs, old and new, until the late hours.

The coldest beer in Johnston County was flowing and Amanda was slinging tasty mixed drinks. Birdie (A.K.A. Roberta Hall) was there selling and sewing patches and various other wares. She always does a great job and donates back to the cause. There was a 50/50 drawing that added to the toy fund. The winner donated their 50% back for even more toys. I don’t know exactly how many kids will benefit from the outpouring, but there were at least 7 very large boxes overflowing with new, unwrapped toys. Three bicycles added to the haul and no telling how much more would be purchased with the cash donations that flowed like water. All the toys and proceeds went to benefit “The Partnership for Children” located in Smithfield, NC. Everyone worked tirelessly to make sure this night went off without a hitch. Who says there is no Santa? They may not have been in red suits, but Joker Fifty certainly represents the best of the Santa spirit. Can’t wait until next year!

Tilley H-D 47th Anniversary Story and photo by Alan Dockery he Saturday before Thanksgiving was chilly and wet, but they were serving up hot chili at Tilley HarleyDavidson, of Statesville, NC. Riders were stopping in all day to wish the Tilley family a Happy 47th Anniversary. In 1972, many of us were riding our first motorcycles, but Don and Robinette Tilley were starting their life-long dream to own a Harley-Davidson Dealership. Tilley H-D started all those years ago west of town on Highway 70. Sometimes when riding over to the Statesville shop for a party, I see old bikers stopped at the first shop for a break. Over the years, Tilley H-D expanded. By the late 1990’s the Tilley’s opened a Salisbury shop. In 2003, they moved into a modern shop at the current Statesville location. By the end of 2006, the Salisbury shop had grown into a full dealership. Don and Robinette have passed on to their heavenly reward, but the Tilley family still works the dealership. The children and grand kids are the people selling

Many of our friends and family members have bought motorcycles there. Don was famous in both motorcycle and car racing and some of the NASCAR drivers and crew members still buy their bikes at Tilley’s. Kyle Petty and Harry Gant were at the anniversary party talking to fans. Bikers stopped in all afternoon for the chili and for great deals on bikes, accessories and clothes. “What a wonderful time we had at our 47th Anniversary Party honoring Don and Robinette,” the Tilley family said. “It was a pleasure seeing so many long-time friends in attendance this year, and we happily extend a hearty welcome to those who are just discovering Tilley H-D. Throughout the entire day, stories were shared, big laughs were had, and a good time was enjoyed by all. We thank everyone who spent time with us that day and look forward to 2020 as we ride into our 48th year in business. We sure hope you’ll continue to join us along the way and add to our history of great memories.”

33rd Annual Bikers Of Gaston County Toy Run By: Wally Wersching he 33rd Annual Bikers of Gaston County Toy Run was held On Sunday, November 24th at the Erwin Community Center in Gastonia, NC. The run was scheduled to start at 1pm, ride through a few small communities with police escort, and eventually wind up at the Westfield Eastridge Mall parking lot to drop off the toys. It was chilly (around 40 degrees), but sunny when I left home at 10:30am, so I dressed appropriately for the ride to Gastonia – long johns, insulated bibs, sweatshirt, and leather jacket along with my winter gauntlet gloves. It was supposed to get into the lower 50’s by the afternoon, but I’d rather be too warm than chilled to the bone. I was comfortable riding on the interstate. I exited at Rt 321, and headed south, and turned right onto Davidson Street. The community center was a couple blocks on the right. When I parked, there were only a few other bikes in the little park that surrounded the center with the baseball field across the street. I knew that in a short time, the park would be full of all kinds of motorcycles. I dropped a stack of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle magazines at the welcome table, and then got a Krispy Kreme donut. They offered donuts and coffee for

T

Naughty or Nice? as long as they lasted. I noticed that there was a constant influx of motorcycles. Most came as one’s and two’s but there were also quite a few large groups – all wearing their club’s colors. I had never heard about most of the clubs – mainly because I don’t go into Gastonia or Charlotte very often. Bob Karney – Carolinas’ Biker Lawyer had a van at the event with two young ladies handing out their 2020 calendars. They were very friendly posing for pictures with anyone who wanted a picture with them. Many of the bikers parked in the upper lot next to the road for an easy exit. The couple of smaller parking areas on either side of the main road through the park were filled with bikes. Then the bikes were directed onto the track around the ball field. They had to do something about the parking. Last year the bikes were blocked in. This year, there would be an easy exit from the track. Most of the bikes were cruisers – Harleys and the like. I saw a group ride in with about a dozen Victory Cross-Country bikes. I walked over to look at the bikes which were all slightly customized. I asked if they were part of a Victory club, and they said that they just really like Victory motorcycles. They were my kind of people! As I watched the bikes roll in, I saw some very extensive customs. They looked like they just rolled off a photo shoot for a biker magazine. I walked up the new sidewalk to the outlying parking lots. The Bob Karney van was told to move to the upper lot to clear the track for the bikes to park. The lot on the right was full of Police squad cars, and motorcycles that would escort the run to the mall. After I walked back to the center, I saw a group of “Windjammers”. They were there to pass out flyers for their upcoming toy run on December 14th in Shelby, NC.

I checked my watch, and it was almost 1pm. The run hadn’t started yet. There were still many bikes rolling in. I left, and on my way to I-85, every gas station and restaurant parking lot was full of motorcycles. I was on I-85 heading west in short order. After exiting onto Rt 74, I just missed Murphey’s Toy Run long line of bikes as I passed the road to Murphey’s. John had his Toy Run on Sunday instead of Saturday because of the rainy weather. I arrived in Forest City to attend the 20th Annual Rutherford County Toy Run at about 1:45. I will definitely go to next year’s Gastonia toy run. I never know what I’ll see rolling in or who I’ll meet.

Santa & Mrs. Claus At Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson By: Chi

F

Bragg Harley-Davidson is always fun and festive, and December was certainly celebrated with Christmas cheer. On Saturday, December 7th, Santa and Mrs. Claus set up in the showroom for the day. Everyone was welcomed to get their picture taken with Santa and his shiny red Harley-Davidson. Santa posed for pictures throughout the day and the only fee accepted was an unwrapped toy for Fayetteville Urban Ministries. Collecting toys for the Fayetteville Urban Ministry was Santa’s sole reason for the visit. Urban Ministries are some of Santa best helpers and he wanted to ensure that they are prepared for the big day. Crowds were gathered all around. Some were in the Fort Bragg HOG Chapter Lounge for hot chocolate and cookies. While others were shopping with the extra discount of the day. And some families were lined up to get their turn with Santa. They were all smiles and dressed in their favorite Christmas attire for a marvelous pic with good ole St Nick! Santa Claus asked them all, what they wanted for Christmas. ort

The children had lots of answers but most of the adults wanted a new Harley-Davidson. There was a lot of talk about a nice and naughty list. Santa reminded everyone he was coming back to town soon and to be good, for goodness sake! Some were reminded about the Harley-Davidson Iron 883 that was won by Nickalus Lyons just two weeks prior. He was entered into the drawing after his demo ride. He was the last one standing and took home the prize, a new 2020 Iron 883. No one is sure if he is on the “naughty or nice” list but I did hear people say he had really good luck! It was getting late, time to go. Santa secured Mrs. Claus’ helmet, he checked it twice, and said, “Merry Christmas to all. I’ve got to start my bike.” He revved up his Harley and rode out of sight.

His Laboring Few Toy Run

7th was a great day for the HLF Toy Run, no rain just a little windy, but at least the sun was shining. Riders met at two places, Preacher Steve’s Leather Shop in Thomasville, and Mac’s Speed Shop in Greensboro. All the riders from Greensboro and Thomasville left Preacher Steve’s Leather and “Popkorn” led them on a short ride to the His Laboring Few church on Martin Luther King Drive in Thomasville. We had several bikes and between 50 - 70 people. There was plenty of food waiting on the riders when they got there. Each person got a ticket for a door prize and got to come up when their number was called to pick out a gift. There was also a 50/50 drawing and the guy that won the money donated it back to help buy toys, $95 altogether! Preacher Steve prayed over all riders, toys and the kids receiving the toys. The day didn’t stop there; later that evening folks met at Joymongers Brewing Company for Blue Christmas & Dorrie’s December Dream Toy Drive. There was music by the band “House of Dues”. Also, more toys were brought in and collected for the Toy Run. ecember

Photo by: Cheri Taylor Thanks to everyone that helped, rode, donated money and toys. If you missed it, we’ll be doing it again on the first Saturday in December 2020. Make plans to be there. Thanks again, In His wind, Ms. Pat

all-girl biker bar by mistake. He finds his way to a bar stool and orders a shot of Jack Daniels. After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender, “Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?” The bar immediately falls absolutely silent. In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says, “Before you tell that joke, Cowboy, I think it is only fair, given that you are blind, that you should know five things: 1. The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat. 2. The bouncer is a blonde girl. 3. I’m a 6-foot tall, 175-pound blonde woman with a black belt in karate. 4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional weightlifter. 5. The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler. Now, think about it seriously, Cowboy. Do you still wanna tell that blonde joke?” The blind cowboy thinks for a second, shakes his head and mutters, “No, ............. not if I’m gonna have to explain it five times.

On New Year’s Eve, Daniel was in no shape to drive, so he sensibly left his van in the parking lot and walked home. As he was wobbling along, he was stopped by a policeman. “What are you doing out here at four o’clock in the morning?” asked the police officer. “I’m on my way to a lecture,” answered Roger. “And who on earth, in their right mind, is going to give a lecture at this time on New Year’s Eve?” enquired the cop sarcastically. “My wife,” slurred Daniel grimly.

As in many homes on New Year’s Day, Janet and Jimmy, a happily married couple, faced the annual conflict of which was more important: the football game on television, or the lunch itself. Hoping to keep the peace, Jimmy ate lunch with the rest of the family, and even lingered for some pleasant after-lunch chat before retiring to the living room to turn on the television. Some minutes later, Janet looked in to see how he was and graciously even bought a cold beer for Jimmy. She smiled, kissed him on the cheek and asked what the score was. Jimmy told her it was half time and that the score was still 0-0. “See?” Janet said happily, “You didn’t miss a thing.” This morning on the Interstate, I looked over to my left and there was a woman in a brand new Cadillac doing 65 mph with her face up next to her rear view mirror putting on her eyeliner. I looked away for a couple seconds...to continue shaving and when I looked back, she was halfway over in my lane, still working on that makeup. As a man, I don’t scare easily. But she scared me so much; I had to put on my seat belt And I dropped my electric shaver, which knocked the donut out of my other hand. In all the confusion of trying to straighten out the car using my knees against the steering wheel, it knocked my cellphone away from my ear which fell into my coffee which was between my legs, splashed, and burned Big AL and the Twins. Ruined the damn phone, soaked my trousers, and disconnected an important call. Damn women drivers! ‘Twas the month after Christmas, and all through the house nothing would fit me, not even a blouse. An old, blind cowboy wanders into an

On New Year’s Eve, Marilyn stood up in the local pub and said that it was time to get ready. At the stroke of midnight, she wanted every husband to be standing next to the one person who made his life worth living. Well, it was kind of embarrassing. As the clock struck - the bartender was almost crushed to death.

A very old man lay dying in his bed. In death’s doorway, he suddenly smelled the aroma of his favorite chocolate chip cookie wafting up the stairs. He gathered his remaining strength and lifted himself from the bed. Leaning against the wall, he slowly made his way out of the bedroom, and with even greater effort forced himself down the stairs, gripping the railing with both hands. With labored breath, he leaned against the door frame, gazing into the kitchen. Were it not for death’s agony, he would have thought himself already in heaven. There, spread out on newspapers on the kitchen table were literally hundreds of his favorite chocolate chip cookies. Was it heaven? Or was it one final act of heroic love from his devoted wife, seeing to it that he left this world a happy man? Mustering one great final effort, he threw himself toward the table. The aged and withered hand, shaking, made its way to a cookie at the edge of the table, when he was suddenly smacked with a spatula by his wife. “Stay out of those,” she said. “They’re for the funeral.

A married couple had been out shopping for most of the day. Suddenly the wife realized that her husband had “disappeared”. Somewhat irate, she called her husband’s mobile and demanded, “Where are you?” Husband: “Darling, do you remember that little jewelry shop where you saw that beautiful diamond necklace and totally fell in love with it but I didn’t have the money at that time and I said, “Darling it’ll be yours one day.”’ Wife, tremulously, “Yes, I do remember that my love.” Husband, “Well I’m in the bar next to that shop.” Julie was taking an afternoon nap on New Year’s Eve before the festivities. After she woke up, she confided to Max, her husband, “I just dreamed that you gave me a diamond ring for a New Year’s present. What do you think it all means?” “Aha, you’ll know tonight,” answered Max smiling broadly. At midnight, as the New Year was chiming, Max approached Julie and handed her small package. Delighted and excited, she opened it quickly. There in her hand rested a book entitled: ‘The meaning Of Dreams’. A guy took his blonde girlfriend to the Super Bowl game. They had great seats right behind their team’s bench. After the game, he asked her how she liked it. “Oh, I really liked it,” she replied, “especially the tight pants and all the big muscles, but I just couldn’t understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents.” Dumbfounded, her boyfriend asked, “What do you mean?” “Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it and then for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was... ‘Get the quarterback! Get the quarterback!’ I’m like...Helloooooo? It’s only 25 cents!”

Veterans Day Weekend 2019 By: Rose and Lloyd ur Veterans Day Weekend began with a bit of disappointment. Lloyd always rides with the American Legion riders in the High Point Parade. This year he was the only rider. The Parade was very short and had very few spectators. It was upsetting to see the lack of support for our Veterans. Sunday, as always, we cover all The Carolina Field of Honor events. It was amazing how different our hearts felt when we got there to a full house; People young and old were waving flags and were so happy to be honoring our Veterans As always, the program opened with Jamestown Pipes and Drums who did an excellent job. There were several wonderful speakers, and honors given. I won’t go over the whole program, but I do want to make a very special mention of Sarah Haley, a beautiful young woman, who sang The National Anthem. It brought tears to your eyes, but she didn’t stop there. She came into the crowd and sang a medley of each Armed Forces’ song and shook hands with members from each branch. You could just see the honor and pride in each Veteran’s face. At the conclusion of each ceremony, Bill Moss, one of the main persons instrumental in making the

dream of this monument a reality, always places a wreath at the Battlefield Cross. The Carolina Field of Honor is a beautiful and inspiring place that you can go to honor our Veterans and their families. It is a place that brings peace and remembrance to so many hearts. In closing, Taps are always played by a military bugler and this year the lyrics of the song were sung by Sarah Haley. It was, without a doubt, the most beautiful and heart felt ceremony since groundbreaking. For Lloyd and me, it is an honor to bring a little piece of our pride to you.

The Gaston County Toy Run For Kids By: Jill Stillwell Photos By: Gene Pennington n December 7th, approximately 1100+ motorcycles rolled across Gaston County NC for the 24th Annual Gaston County Toy Run for Kids. This ride is unique in that the kids actually get their toys on the day of the ride from the back of trucks loaded with unwrapped toys. Deserving children are notified of the run by the schools and churches. I know you heard the old saying “it takes an army,” well that is exactly what it takes to put on this toy run. The Toy Run Committee works tirelessly all year long planning for this event by holding hot dog sales, full breakfast events, and soliciting sponsors. Every motorcycle club/ organization in Gaston County and a lot from the surrounding area participate in this toy run. During the ride, toys are given out to the kids at six (6) locations across the

county. Law enforcement officers and road guards stop traffic all across the county to protect the bikers from any traffic that might try to encroach into the parade of motorcycles. People line up all along the route to watch and cheer on the bikers. This toy run started in 1996, when Buddy Sexton, who was the pastor of the Soldier of the Light Biker Ministry at the time, came to Andrew “Sugarfoot” Jenkins (the current Chairman of the Toy Run Committee), with an idea he said that the “Lord had laid upon his heart.” That idea was to have a toy run in Gaston County for underprivileged children. He explained to Sugarfoot how the run was supposed to work. Buddy, Sugarfoot and Rocky Hall (a member of His Laboring Few Biker Ministry) took this idea to the Southern Gentlemen Motorcycle Club ( Sugarfoot was president at that time). Buddy

explained that the run needed to have the children present at different stops around the county to give them a Christmas that some would not otherwise have. The Southern Gentlemen all agreed to help with this endeavor and that year the Gaston County Toy Run for Underprivileged Children was born. Over the years the name was changed to the Gaston County Annual Toy Run for Kids and it has become a 501(c)3 organization with all incoming monies going toward the purchase of toys for the children. This toy run happens each year on the 1st Saturday in December with many different organizations (besides bikers) around Gaston County now volunteering to help organize the run. It has developed into the largest toy run in Gaston County and is solely funded by donations from businesses and individuals from Gaston and other counties that believe in the run. T-shirts are printed with a picture depicting the run and is now drawn by the Holy Angels Art Club with the names of the donors listed on the back. The money from the sale of the t-shirts goes toward expenses and purchase of toys for the children. The toy run has had as many as 2,000 motorcycles participating bringing unwrapped toys to give to the children. Buddy passed away in June of 2016, but he lived to see his dream fulfilled to its fullest extent. So, if you want to see the happiness in a child’s face, please ride with us on this unique toy run because Sugarfoot guarantees that after your first participation, you will be hooked. It is totally different from any toy run you have ever ridden on before. This run is ALL ABOUT THE KIDS.
