We made it through 2021 and we have a fresh new year to start over with. Here at the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine the new year is always a good thing. We look back on the great times and the awesome events we went to. There’s always a few laughs and inside jokes that come along with a weekend with your riding buddies. We ended this year with some really huge toy runs and Christmas benefits, and ya know what…That says a lot about bikers. No matter how rough the year was, we still managed to bring joy to others, which in turn brings joy to us. We are lucky to live in the Carolinas and have such a great riding community. Now as we stare straight into a new year, we have a whole new rally season and epic events to look forward to. Make sure to get those bike repairs and upgrades taken care of and let’s be ready to burn up the roads in the spring when the weather starts to turn warmer. There are still a lot of great events coming up in January, just look at our Crusin’ Calendar that comes after the Cover Story in each issue. New Year’s Day rides, parties, open houses, birthday parties, rides and more start the year 2022. We have the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine 23rd Attempt, Almost A Tradition – Pre-Daytona, Valentine’s Day Party and Oyster Roast - THE FEAR OF FEBRUARY PARTY, coming up on February 12, 2022. Double D Burnout Saloon in Kernersville, NC is our host again this year and it’s sure to be a good time. Put it on your calendar and let’s party. Speaking of warmer weather, the 20th Anniversary Outer Banks Bike Week is coming up April 16-24th and it’s gonna be awesome. I’m not big on lofty New Year’s resolutions, but the traditional New Year’s Resolution at the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine is to get out of the office and ride more. Almost Perfect 1968 Triumph Daytona

mostly have Indians, but an old friend of mine in

my little village knew I was into old bikes so he told me about this Triumph he had gotten out of Ohio as part of a muscle car deal. He got it from the original owner, who had kept it stored in his garage for 34 years, coated in protective grease. A long sleep! Only 11,000 miles on the clock. My friend cleaned it up, got the carbs sorted out and rode it a couple of years. He used to ride bikes back in school, but wasn’t really into it these days so he was trying to sell it. I did a little research and found it was a very desirable model. Only trouble was that all 5 of the tin parts were painted in a psychedelic 1970’s chopper paint job; purple and orange metalflake panels with acetylene smoke accents and clearcoat. Plus it had Schwinn Stingray high rise bars, and the guy had “detailed” all the small screw heads with a brush and flat black paint, while doing the same with gold paint on other small parts like brake arms, zener diode, etc. Also chromed a lot of

stuff that Triumph had thought should be black, like brake pedal, chain guard, engine mounts, fender stays, grab handle. Thankfully his custom touches didn’t extend to raking the neck or messing with the wiring. All the old chrome was still in great shape thanks to the grease coat! The bike was basically intact and more or less ran. Got a good deal on it from my friend. So I got it running well, put on stock bars, and put her through Antique Motorcycle Club of America judging for original condition bikes to see what all they didn’t like. The paint of course would always keep it from a senior status and repainting for an original bike would do the same. So the only way to get it right would be to find factory paint parts to swap out. The black side cover and oil tank wasn’t too bad to find, but the tank and fenders had to be exactly the ‘68 Daytona scheme; no other choice. I lucked out and found a New Old Stock tank and rear fender from two different sources on eBay. But no front fender with decent paint was turning up. I was asking every vendor I could find out about but “no got” and no good leads. Finally called the last guy I knew of, who was also known for cleaning out old dealerships, and he said “’68 Daytona front fender.........yeah, I think I got one still in the paper wrapping.” Wow, another NOS paint piece, plus he also had a lot of NOS black parts for the chrome ones I had to change! By the time I was done getting all the defects corrected, down to original Champion lettered sparkplug boots and Dunlop valve stem caps, changing the sealed beam headlight for correct reflector and lens, and cleaning up all the guy’s fancy brush painting, I got up to 99 1/2 points in AMCA judging. The remaining problems were two quarter point deductions for having an Avon rib tire on the front instead of the hard to find old Dunlop rib and having

chrome rider’s pegs instead of black. I didn’t know they were wrong. Well, both of those have since been corrected. So in my opinion I’ve now got a 100 point original condition 1968 Triumph Daytona! Doc’s Note At the Antique Motorcycle Club of America’s Southern National Meet at Denton, NC, the campgrounds are so nice. Not just the cooling shade trees, but hundreds of cool old motorcycles fill the grounds. Chris was camped next to me and soon I was checking out this special machine. He is justified in being proud of bringing it back to as original as possible condition. I think the only quarter point deduction anyone could find would be the front tire. It looks correct to me but is the wrong brand. The bike ain’t just a show trailer queen either. Chris took it on the road ride into the Carolina countryside. And the spit shined Triumph got dirty. But it was looking perfect when rolled into the judging barn. I enjoyed hearing Chris’s stories about this and other motorcycles. The 2022 Southern National Meet will be at Denton Farm Park Oct 14 – 16. If you dig old motorcycles and the sights, sounds and smells as they cruise the grounds plus 200 vendors selling old parts; then be at Denton. There will be more stories about cool old bikes than I could ever help tell.

Lumbee Racing Hosts Twist for Tots Toy Drive By: Chi

Tots was held on December 11th 2021. The event took place at 710 Dragway, Roland N.C. This was the second year for the Twist for Tots toy drive and Paul Watson, owner of Lumbee Racing, says they will be back again next year. The community came together and the Twist for Tots Toy Drive was tremendously successful; thanks to the work of many hands! Fort Bragg Harley Davidson of Fayetteville, NC was escorted to the Toy drive by the Robeson County Sheriffs Department. They received a robust welcome as they approached the event. They came with lights and sirens blazing and made an awesome entrance. The crowd of both children and race fans were excited as they reached the destination and delivered the toys. All the sponsors were working together to deliver a whole lot of toys for the local children. Everyone was there to have a great time, support a great cause and show their Christmas spirit! The Robeson County Sheriffs department was a huge sponsor of this event and has committed to being back next year as well, per Paul, the event promoter. Lumbee Racing had a small season ending race with three crowned champions. The three classes in the race program were Street ET, Open Grudge, and Pro Bagger. The Street ET Champions were Keith Rabon and Dusty Blackwell of Lumbee Racing, the Open Grudge Champions were Dwayne Gee and Khole Sellers of StreetKing Motorsports out of Atlanta Georgia, and the Pro Bagger Champion was Paul Uricchio of Lumbee Racing. It was surely an amazing event on a beautiful 80 degree December day! Christmas toys for the kids, motorcycle racing and good clean wholesome entertainment. Even Santa could not resist supporting such a great event. He will certainly be back next year for the third annual event 2022. wist for

t’s that time of year again, everyone is in the

Christmas spirit and doing toy runs. HIs Laboring Few Biker Ministry of Jesus Christ scheduled ours for December 4th and had beautiful weather and mild temps making for a great day to ride. HLF Toy run has been going on since back in the 90’s when we the ministry was at the John Wesley Camp in High Point, NC. Parents, Grandparents or whoever have custody of the children in need have to call the ministry with all the information of the child, you can’t just come in off the street to get toys. The Ministry doesn’t take any credit for the toys that are gathered each year as God supplies all our needs. 18 bikes lined up at Preacher Steve’s Leather in Thomasville, NC for this years ride. We all hung out, caught up and did a little shoppin’ while waiting for it to be time to ride.

Preacher Steve gathered the riders together for a pre-ride chat and said a prayer then David and I led the ride out. We headed out from Preacher Steve’s Leather and followed Hwy 29-70 until it came back into Bus 85 and continued on to the His Laboring Few Church on Martin Luther King Dr. in Thomasville. Food and drinks were waiting when the riders got to the church. We gave tickets out to everyone on a chance for a door prize. Sold tickets for the 50/50 which Joe House won and donated it back to help buy toys. It turned out to be a great day, with toys and donations we raised close to $500.00 to help some families in need at Christmas. Thanks to everyone for your time that donated to make another great toy run.

Murphey’s 27th Annual Toy Run By Wally Wersching ’ve known John Murphey for over 30 years, and have been to most of his annual toy runs. Over the years, he has become the real Santa Claus for many children in North Carolina. He even looks more like Santa every year. His long white beard and portly stance resembles the Santa we have come to know and love. Murphey’s Toy Run starts the Christmas season in this area. His toy run is the first of many, with multiple runs every weekend until Christmas. It’s a time for making new friendships and renewing old ones. I have friends who I only see on toy runs every year. Murphey’s Toy Runs have been blessed with great weather over the years. I can only remember one that had to be postponed to the rain date. On Saturday November 20th, John held his 27th Annual Toy Run. The police escorted ride benefits the Shriner’s Burn Center, Oxford Orphanage Masonic Home for Children, Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kings Mountain Police Department. This year, God continued to watch over John’s event. It was a sunny chilly morning with temps around freezing with frost on the roofs. As the morning progressed, the temps climbed into the 50’s with a light breeze. It was a beautiful fall day that encouraged many bikers to come for the ride. Murphey’s Scooter-Shed is located in a residential neighborhood next to John’s home on a dead-end road. There is a small parking area around his shop, and during the toy runs; it’s full of bikers buying t-shirts, renewing old acquaintances, and making new ones while dropping off the toys. As I was riding to Murphey’s, I noticed that my odometer turned 80,000 miles. It seems like only yesterday when I brought “Miss Vickie” home – over 9 years ago now. I arrived at Murphey’s at about 10:45AM, and parked on the road with the rest of the bikes already there. John was very busy making sure that everything went as planned. Luckily, he has been

doing the run long enough so that the many volunteers know what needs to be done, and do it. As I walked around, I saw the cooks getting the food ready. The BBQ served at Murphey’s is some of the best in the area. There were huge boxes of toys collected along with a lot of money. This year, as usual, Murphey asked for a $5.00 donation along with the new toy from every person going on the run. That included the run, and delicious BBQ afterward. I walked down the long line of motorcycles, and heard many people laughing, and getting acquainted. I was looking for people I knew, and of course Victory motorcycles. There were many types of motorcycles in the long line. Most were Harleys or Harley wannabees. Then there were the trikes – some conventional (one front wheel, and two rear), and others were the Can-Am Spyders (two front wheels and one rear). I was surprised to see a bike with a sidecar. I’ve always thought about adding a sidecar to “Miss Vickie”. There were also a few “Crotch-Rockets” in the mix. All bikes were welcomed. After all my searching, I did see five other Victory motorcycles. I talked with one of the owners. I had met him before. He rode his Victory Cross-Country Bagger. Some people even dressed up for the ride. One man dressed in a bunny outfit similar to the one Ralphie wore in the Christmas Story again. Others had unusual helmets with faces on them. It was a very festive occasion. At exactly 12:00 noon, the roar was almost deafening when they all started their bikes. In a few minutes, the run began with Murphey leading the way looking like Santa

on his custom-made Indian look-alike bike. The route was planned ahead, and every intersection would be blocked off by either the police or fire departments. They left quickly but still took about 15 minutes for all to pass. There were almost 400 bikes! I will definitely go again next year. It’s a great way to spend a late fall Saturday, and it helps a lot of kids have a Merry Christmas.

Saturday in December has always been the date we look forward to. On this day for the past 15 years we all rally together to support the Marine Toys for Tots. The 15th Annual Barry “Ole Dog” Glenn memorial Toy run rolled out this year on Saturday, December 4th. You couldn’t have asked for a better day as the weather was simply perfect, plenty of sunshine. I truly believe Barry Glenn was smiling down upon us and the 80 plus bikes that came out to Double D Burnout Saloon, 1408 E. Mountain St., Kernersville, NC. Registration began at 10:30am and with the help of Stephanie Street we got everyone registered. As all the bikes were arriving people were treated to fresh donuts and the mouth watering aroma of smoked barbecue cooked by Butch Meadows and his boys. Around noon David Thompson, owner of Double D Burnout Saloon, gathered all the participants and said a few words of welcome and appreciation as well as a heartfelt prayer. Then Jimmy Street, president of American Legion Post 87 High Point Legion Riders gave a general overview of what the day would entail and some safety reminders. The Legion Riders lead the ride and provided blocking as we rode to our first destination, JR’s Corner Tavern with a few cages and the Royal party bus following along. All the while, the weather getting warmer and warmer. After a short while wetting our whistle there at JR’s we headed out to our next destination. Our next stop took us through a super nice ride through the country. On this fantastic, sunshiny day we made our way through Wallburg to the Ole Watering Hole for more cold refreshments and socializing. Then it was back to Double D’s to get the festivities started. So after another nice route through the country we were back and everyone was ready to eat some barbecue and enjoy the remainder of the day. The festivities began with a moment of silence in remembrance of Barry “Ole Dog” Glenn followed by our National Anthem to kick things off. We were entertained with some great tunes from the band Blu Genes, great food provided by Marine Rider Larry Boles and all the sides & fixings provided by the Legion Riders Post 87. Many thanks go out to all who helped with serving he first

out the dishes. Then the raffles began and there were some pretty cool items up for grabs and I know all the lucky winners walked away happy. Of course we can’t leave out the auction which went real well and had a few good bidding wars going which always makes it interesting. The 50/50 raised a good amount and Mr. Lucky Cola Johnson won and so graciously gave it all back. Some special & generous donations were made by various people. Jimmy Street presented a check by the Legion Riders along with American Military Family and other groups & people. There were 43 bicycles, $4329 and 10 loaded up boxes of toys handed over to the Marine Representative Elliott Shaffer. Once again the biker community and people associated with the community come together to make a difference. There are so many to thank it would be hard to name everyone, just know that you are blessed for opening your hearts I’m positively certain Barry was proud and Momma Chris as well. Each year the children of the Conover School show their appreciation by putting on a Christmas pageant, singing and acting out songs of the season. This is such a touching show that even the most macho bikers could be seen wiping an occasional tear. The school presented Mike with a cool quilt as this year’s thank you gift. They usually give him something personalized and sentimental. The quilt had squares from each class in it. Every year there is one song skit or student performer who is the favorite and gets the loudest crowd response. This year it was Hunter. His dancing had the bikers cheering. Not only do I see bikers I’ve known for decades, but teachers and staff from the school who have retired or moved to other jobs are at the Toy Run Christmas Show. They love to come back to see their students and biker buddies. I was glad to see this year turn out so well. Since that Bitch

Saturday in December that folks who live close to The Wizard Saloon rode in wearing T-Shirts with no leathers. And the forecast was even warmer for the afternoon. That meant hundreds of bikers across the Hickory, NC area rode to the Wizard Saloon for the 31st Annual Toy Run to benefit the Conover School. As the Noonish rollout time approached, more than 500 bikes packed the bar and nearby parking lots. Soon the riders roared down Old Highway 70 with Arnold on his beautiful custom trike towing Santa to lead the way. I left a few minutes ahead to be ready for when they arrived at Newton-Conover High School. Along Old 70 and into town, I saw lots of folks parked waiting for the parade of motorcycles to come roaring by. The toy run supports the Conover School, one of the state’s premier special education schools. What makes it different from other toy runs is instead of bringing toys to a central collection point, teachers select specific toys based on each child’s wants, needs and abilities. Bikers pay the tab through a charity managed by Mike Dyson, The Wizard Saloon owner. This is a unique toy run and the coolest by far that I’ve been on in my many years riding. Personally, this was my 26th time enjoying this too cool toy run parade. On the Conover School Toy Run, bikers see the kids they are helping. As we rode into the High School parking lot, the cheering kids and families lined the sidewalk. Bikers and families gathered in the gym to see the best part of this toy run. What makes it so special for the kids, he weather was so nice the first

Rona messed up the 30th Anniversary Conover School Toy Run, this was like a celebration to me. And we celebrated getting sorta back to normal with the show. “The toy run looked like it used to with more than 500 motorcycles going to the high school,” said Mike Dyson. “And we got to see the kids put on the Christmas Show. That was special to me and everyone. Christmas doesn’t start until the toy run is over. Seeing the smiles on the kid’s faces is what gives us the start to our Christmas. It has for 31 years.” “We had to order the toys a couple of months ago to make sure we had what we needed for each kid. We didn’t do the late night shopping trip since we were worried about supply on the shelves. The girls did the big present wrapping party at the bar one night. Making sure every one of the kids gets their toys,” Mike said. He told me folks thanked him for more than just the toy run this year. “Some people came to us and said they are so down in the dumps about all the stuff going on and Christmas. But after they left there that day, they felt more like Christmas than they had in a while,” he said. Donations at the toy run and from sponsors and the auction items pay for the toys each year. But the charity helps the students and teachers all year round. Through Mike, your donations help with classroom supplies and needs anytime the school is in session. I tell y’all this is a special toy run. “Thank you to all those who helped make it a success. Angel is taking over more each year and doing a great job. Batchelor’s Tavern 28th Annual Toy Run

4th was a great day for riding. I didn’t have a destination in mind, so I checked the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar. I noticed the Batchelor’s Tavern 28th Annual Toy Run was happening that day at Webb’s Mill in Spring Hope, NC. I had heard of this toy run but had never attended. Perfect opportunity to check it out. We arrived at Webb’s Mill around noon. There were at least 100 bikes already there. The place was buzzing and we learned a bit about the toy run. The toy run was started in 1994 by “Snooks” Robbins. Snooks has passed on, and the Tavern is no longer in business, but the toy run is still going strong. It was at the Tavern until 2018, then one year at Michael’s Showside Grille. Then in 2020 the event moved to Webb’s Mill. At 1:00pm we pulled out of Webb’s Mill to deliver an enclosed trailer full of toys to Ephesus Baptist Church in Spring Hope. The bike count was up to 140 by now. Snooks son, Josh Robbins led the ride wearing a Santa suit. The toys go to the Tar River Baptist Association Toy Ministry, where they are distributed to needy families, mostly in Nash and Franklin county. The church also collects food donations from a local school. Coffee and donuts were served, followed by a prayer. After the donations were delivered the group headed back to Webb’s Mill for some fun. A pig was on the cooker, and fixins were on the tables for all to enjoy. There was a cash bar inside the old mill, and a large, covered pavilion. The site is on the banks of the Tar River with some nice views. After everybody was full, Josh acted as MC and the raffle prize drawings were underway. There were also some special items that were auctioned off to the highest bidder. Additional donations of $6,950 were raised for the Church. My wife was talking with Webb’s Mill owner Cathy Curtis getting the history of the place. Her husband Pete gave me a “behind the scenes” tour. The mill originally ground corn, but in the early 1900’s it was converted to produce electricity. The 3 turbines are still in place, and the electrical gear has been upgraded. The mill produces more electricity than it consumes and gets some money back each month from Duke Power. Many thanks to all the people that donated food, time, toys and money. It was a great day and I plan to attend next year. It’s always the first Saturday of December. Hope to see you there. ecember

1st Annual Pickens County SC Toys For Tots Toy Run

By: Bill Gallaway n Saturday, November 20th at 11:30 am, the bikes started lining up at the Greenville Pickens Speedway for the Pickens County Annual Toys for Tots Christmas Toy Run. This Toy Run left from The Greenville Pickens Speedway and traveled to the Market at the Mill in Pickens, SC. The day was a beautiful cold but sunny day. The past few days it was in the 70’s but that changed last night with today’s temps in the 50’s. The best thing was it warmed your heart to know that you were helping a child have a present to open on Christmas day. The Toy Run started at 1:00 PM and by that time there were over 300 motorcycle riders lined up with their bikes overflowing with toys. In addition to the motorcycles, there were a handful of antique cars and somewhere around 100 Jeeps and trucks. There were some familiar faces and a few of them that I hadn’t seen in years due to the Pandemic. There were also many new riders and clubs represented. Prior to kick stands up there many folks hanging out and visiting with old friends in the staging area of the parking lot which was full of bikes, trucks, Jeeps, and support vehicles along with Pickens Police and Central Fire. The ride left the Greenville Pickens Speedway at 1:00 pm as the fire truck sounded its siren. The ride was escorted by the Pickens County Sheriffs Dept. They traveled through Greenville, Easley, and Pickens arriving at their destination the Market at the Mill in downtown Pickens. You could hear the roar of the thundering motorcycles as they approached. Those that did not ride were in cages, jeeps and trucks and followed the bikes that were carrying toys for the under-privileged children of Pickens County. There was a box truck to receive the toys and a band playing music when we arrived at the Market at the Mill. After dropping off the toys, some ventured into

the Marketplace and others enjoyed a bite to eat or a beverage while still visiting. Many thanks to The Marine Corps Reserve, Police, Fire and Road Guards which helped with traffic control at the crossroads and intersections they volunteered their time to support and coordinate this event. It would not happen without them. Thank You to all of those involved I sure I’ve left out a few for their help in the coordination of this event. Due to their efforts, many children will have a Merry Christmas.

By: Wally Wersching n Saturday November 27th, the Gastonia Chapter of the Guardians of the Children (GOC) held their Second Annual Christmas Toy Run to raise money, and toys for the needy. All toys will be donated to families in Gaston and surrounding counties who have contacted the GOC for help for Christmas. Any toys left will be distributed to families in need. Money from the ride will be used to buy gifts for older children. Any money left will be donated to the Gaston County Toy Run for Kids. There were quite a few toy runs on the 27th. Most of them very large and been doing it for many years. I decided to help the GOC with theirs. Registration started at 10:30 a.m. at the

Winner’s Circle Bar on Franklin Boulevard in Gastonia. Fees were set at $6.00 and an unwrapped toy, or $10.00 with no toy. The run was scheduled to leave at 12:00 p.m. to ride a scenic route with a couple stops along the way with food available, and eventually ending back at the Winner’s Circle. I left home about 10:00 a.m. heading east on Rt 74. I stayed on Rt 74 all the way into Gastonia. The Winners’ Circle Bar was on the right on the west side of Gastonia. I pulled into the lot and parked away from the line of bikes because I wasn’t actually going on the ride. I brought a stack of Full Throttle magazines and placed them on the registration table when I gave a donation. I located “Cuzz”, and we talked for a few minutes. Then he had to take care of some club business, and make sure that the Toy Run went off as planned. I watched as many bikes rolled in - some in packs of five or six, and others came alone. The large parking lot was starting to fill up. About 50 bikes filled the lot. Before they were ready to leave, they had a meeting. Since this Toy Run would not have a police escort, they had to do it the old-fashioned way with “Road Guards” at the intersections. Everybody was told what to do when certain hand signals were given. After that, there was the prayer thanking God for the great weather and asking Him to bless all the participants. At a little after noon, the bikes left with a roar. They exited the lot onto Franklin heading west for the beginning of their ride. After they left, I headed back to Shelby - west on Rt 74. It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

Biker Trash Nation Toy Drive

Biker Trash Nation rides for various charities and the holiday season doesn’t slow them down. In fact BTN founders Wayne and Vandee get a jump on their annual toy drive by beginning at the Myrtle Beach Spring Bike Week hosting events and collecting donations and toys for the Salvation Army Angel Tree program. With the help of their favorite watering holes who also collect donations BTN members piled it on thick to make sure to help as many kids as possible. There was even an online Wal-Mart registry so that you could donate to the cause while at home relaxing in your Santa slippers. The registry kept Wayne and Vandee busy putting together bicycles for weeks in their spare time. The toy drive is so successful that by the time they have their ride, 90% of the donations have been made and the ride ends up being more of a celebration lap! Some donations are made the day of, and even after the event, but this is no parade of heavily decorated, toy toting sleds that barely get out of 3 gear. No no, this is an all out 4 pub celebratory ride that ends with the annual BTN anniversary party, this year marking their 6th year. Eighty some bikes rolled into Pine Tree Tavern in WinstonSalem to kick off the BTN toy ride on December 4th. It was one of those 70 degree December days that every biker dreams of, a riding day oasis, after the onslaught of cool fall weather forces us into a few layers of leather. It was so nice out that Santa himself rode up on a white Road King to have a few drinks and get some December miles under his wide black belt. The party rolled through Willie’s Honky Tonk and Second & Green before descending upon Baggerz Saloon, a familiar route for BTN shenanigans. There were piles of toys and bicycles at all the stops that would be added to the drive. The ride ended had ended for the day, but the party was just beginning. There was a spread of food set up on a pool table ll year long

at Baggerz including finger foods, sandwiches, pulled pork and even a Biker Trash Nation 6th year anniversary cake . Papa Soul was doing a sound check in preparation for rocking the night away, when Wayne called the Nation to attention. He thanks the crowd for their support, said a prayer, blessed the food and opened up the chow line! It was a hell of a day. December 12th The Nation gathered again to help deliver the toys to the Salvation Army Angel Tree warehouse. They filled a 28 foot trailer with over 200 bicycles and other toys including a haul of electronics for some of the older kids. It was a hell of a way to kick off the Christmas season. Wayne summed it up by saying, “Once again the members of Biker Trash Nation have stepped up and made a difference in so many kids lives this Christmas. We are honored to be a part of it”. Big shot out to Wayne, Vandee and the entire Bike Trash Nation for pulling these donations together and helping make the Salvation Army Angel Tree program a success.

26th Annual GastonFull County Toy Run For Kids The Carolinas’ Throttle Magazine

By Wally Wersching n December, 4th the 26th Annual Gaston County Toy Run for Kids was held in Gastonia, NC. The meeting place was the Ranlo Church of God in Ranlo, NC, which is located just north of Gastonia on Cox Road. All you needed to participate was a new unwrapped toy. The group left with a police escort at 11:30AM on their tour of the area dropping off toys along the way. The ride went to Dallas, Bessemer City, Gastonia, and ended at Parkwood Baptist Church on Garrison Ave. in Gastonia. Hundreds of toys were distributed to families in need out of U-Haul trucks at each stop. I went last year, and had a great time. I decided to go again this year especially since I attended a couple fundraisers for the run this year. That’s where I met a few of the people who were responsible for the run every year. I left home at 9:15AM heading east on Rt 74. I stopped at the gas station at the intersection with Rt 180, and met “Grumpy”. Then we both headed east on Rt 74. We merged into I85, exited at the Cox Road exit, and turned left to go north. After a couple miles, we turned right to go into the large parking lot for the church. It was about 10:00AM, and we were guided into the lot by members of the Carolina Thunder. I parked “Miss Vickie” along the outer boundary of the parking lot. I didn’t want her to be in the way when all the other bikes came. “Grumpy” did the same since he wasn’t going on the run either. The main part of the lot was empty, but there were quite a few bikes parked near the U-Haul box trucks. I walked past the Biker Lawyer tents. The U-Haul box trucks were filled with toys, and volunteers were busy placing more toys in the trucks. There was a line of children waiting for the OK to go to the trucks, and get their toys. The toys were for anyone who needed a toy for their kid for Christmas. I walked over to the trailer with the 1994 Softail

Springer that was being raffled off. They were still busy selling tickets. The drawing would be later in the afternoon. It was a very nice bike. Someone would be very happy later. I walked inside one of the buildings, and they were giving away free breakfasts – hot coffee, biscuits, and Krispy Kreme donuts. Everybody was really enjoying the hot coffee and biscuits to take the chill off their ride in. The donuts were a sweet treat. I saw R.J. from the Catawba Heights Baptist Church. He hadn’t seen himself in the October issue of the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. Luckily, I had an extra copy in my bag, and I walked back to the bike, got the magazine out of my pack, and then went looking for him again. I found him, and he was beside himself seeing his picture in the magazine. By then, there was a steady stream of bikers riding in. Members of the Carolina Thunder had their hands full trying to squeeze in as many bikes as they could in an orderly manner. The club members would also be “Road Guards” during the run. Even with police escort, because there would be so many bikes, they would still need someone to block traffic at intersections.

The bikes were coming so fast that there was a back-up onto the road, and traffic was stopped as the bikes turned into the lot. As I was walking around, I was looking for Victory motorcycles. I have learned that the owners of a Victory motorcycle are very friendly – especially to another Victory owner – me. I saw a few roll in but they were lost in the huge mass of motorcycles. I couldn’t find them when I walked around. With so many bikes coming in, they almost ran out of room, but every bike found a resting place. Bikers brought all the toys to the trucks before it was time to leave. Then everybody went back to their bikes. It was time to leave. The first to leave were the police escort followed by the box trucks, and then the beginning of the bikers. It took over 25 minutes for them all to leave. Earlier, the DJ announced that there were over 1,000 bikes at the event. I walked to the road to get some pictures as they rode by. The traffic was stopped to let all the bikes out of the parking lot. I continued taking pictures of the bikes as they passed. Some bikers waved, and others were concentrating on the ride. After most of them passed, I walked back to “Miss Vickie” and “Grumpy”, and we left. We were on the tail end of the run so we weren’t stuck in the bumper to bumper traffic we encountered last year. We peeled off when the run made a few turns, and found our way back to I85 and Shelby. It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

Frosty Balls Ride

By John Ridenhour n Thanksgiving Day this year at the Parkway House Restaurant in Stanly County, I had the opportunity to take part in a charity ride, that would ironically change the way I look at the charities that a lot of us participate in this time of year. What is it about Frosty Balls that changed that mind set you ask? keep in mind I’m not trying to put it above all the other charity’s that are going on during the holiday season. To understand what I’m about to tell you, let me first go back to how this whole thing was founded. In 2006, there were five bikers that met up at the waffle house on Thanksgiving morning, they knew of a family that was down on their luck that year and decided they wanted to help that family out. They put their resources together and made sure that family, despite their situation would have a bright Christmas. Seems pretty humble, doesn’t it? Just five men with big hearts doing what needed to be done for a family that was unable to do it for themselves. These men continued doing this every year. They would ride, put their money and resources together and help a family that was down on their luck, all while staying anonymous. This ride continued and grew into what is now known as the Frosty Balls Ride. The ride takes place on Thanksgiving morning, year after year, and 15 years later has grown greatly in numbers. Thanksgiving morning at 5:30am, I get up and I put on my chaps and my heavy leather coat and go out to fire up Coppertop and head to Parkway House which is only 10 minutes away. Doesn’t seem that bad, but when it’s 26 degrees on a bike, a 10 minute ride can seem like 30. So, I pull into Parkway House, my upper body, hands and legs are fine cause my leathers are doing what they are supposed to do. Now, anyone who has worn chaps will understand what I’m about to say next. See there is an area that is missing protection when wearing chaps, so as I’m parking my bike I’m realizing how Frosty Balls got its name. I get off my bike, go in and grab a seat and order my food. Everyone there is welcoming each other and catching up on old times. Some haven’t seen each other in months or

even a year, but the mind set of everyone is the same, helping families in need. As I’m eating, the donation box is being passed around. See Frosty Balls isn’t a paid ride, it’s donation only, which is kind of different. I noticed there were a lot of different riding clubs there, but they weren’t separated by their different names, they were all mingling together. No one there had the mind-set that they were there to represent whatever club or chapter they ride for. They were there in the spirit of helping others. That’s when it began to dawn on me that this is more than just a charity ride. There is a cause and effect involved in everything we do, the cause was helping families in need for the holidays, which is hands down a great cause. There’s also two effects here, first effect is the family’s needs being met through the spirt of giving, one of the greatest effects any cause can have. Second effect is brotherhood. Ya see this ride has evolved past just a charity, it has become a brotherhood and sisterhood of giving. Men and women coming together for a common cause and making a positive impact on people’s lives. Not to mention the joy that has been brought over the years to the children in these families. This brotherhood and sisterhood is identified by a blue patch that is given to everyone that rides in Frosty Balls. It is placed on the bottom, left,

front corner of their vest. There is a side of bikers that everyone else misses. Yeah most bikers are tough, no bull men and women. I mean we have to be tough. We are riding on two wheels with a blistering hot engine screaming for merci with gallons of gas strapped to it and are surrounded by much bigger vehicles with more wheels. But there’s also a very giving side of the biker community that I believe most people outside the biker community miss. That’s what we need to show them more of, the brother and sisterhood of giving that exist with-in the biker community. As everyone began to finish eating and gathering in the parking lot of the Parkway House patches for the new riders were given out and excitement about the ride began to build. The officials of Frosty Balls said a few words of thanks for the attendance, the route was discussed, and a prayer for safety and a blessing for the event was given. Seventy-Four bikes began to fire up and a little over 100 people began to load up on the bikes and in a few cars. The road captain for the event made his lap around the parking lot and we were off. Up 24/27 then turning on to Hwy 52 south, with the intersection blocked to allow all the bikes to make it safely through. We turned onto Hwy 138 and wound down through the country to our first stop, the Norwood Fire and Rescue. It was a brief stop for the relief from all the tea and coffee that we drank, and to warm up before the final leg of the ride. When we stopped, we were all aware of the name of the ride, it was 26 degrees,

but not one person was complaining about the cold. Instead, everyone stood in the sun to warm up and made jokes about the cold weather and the before related name for the ride but still no-one complained, building family aspect of the ride. We saddled back up winding through Norwood, heading down 731 to Mt. Gilead to River Rd. over to Hwy 109 then finishing the ride at The Eldorado Outpost. Along the way people were standing in their front yards waving and some videoing as the bike passed by. The people in that area have come to know that the rumble of bikes on Thanksgiving morning means that there is a family that will receive a much needed blessing for Christmas, maybe even someone they’re close to. As we parked at The Eldorado Outpost, everyone was definitely cold from the ride. More of the unity between bikers was displayed, not in handshakes but in brotherly hugs, and laughter. The first part of Frosty Balls was over. Next would be the ride to deliver the gifts to the selected family/families that are helped this holiday season, that date is given out when everything is in place and I definitely look forward to being a part of. The cold that morning didn’t even matter, there was so much more taking place which took my mind off the 26 degree weather and forever changed how I view charity rides.

41st Annual The Carolinas’ Anderson, Full Throttle SC Toy Magazine Parade In Memory of Charles and Diane Bolt

By: Bill Gallaway n Sunday, November 28, around noon you could hear the roar from many motorcycles headed into Anderson. Their destination, the parking lot outside Jones White ACE Hardware and Sporting Goods in Anderson, SC. This event is known as the Jack Hurley Anderson Toy Parade. This year marked the 41st year this parade had been conducted. The hosting organization is the Confederates MC of Anderson. Everyone I talked to remarked how great the weather was for the event. The day was sunny and mild with temps in the 60’s. The Parade started at 2:00 PM and by that time there where close to 1000 riders lined up with their bikes overflowing with toys. There were a few familiar faces among the crowd who were visiting and catching up in the staging area of the parking lot which was completely full of bikes and wrapping around the building. The police and fire departments who escorted the ride left the hardware store parking lot at 2:00 PM. They traveled north up South Main Street thru Anderson to Mall

Road and then to the Civic Center, which was their destination with plenty of parking. The folks at the Civic Center could hear the siren of the fire truck and the thunder of the bikes as they arrived. There were food and beverage vendors and a motorcycle lawyer set up in the parking lot. Those that didn’t ride in the parade and went directly to the finish had already carried their toys to the box truck. Toys such as bicycles that are difficult to carry on a motorcycle mostly arrived this way. All toys were to be distributed to children of the Anderson Community. I know many children will have a Merry Christmas and a smile on their faces, maybe even a tear when they see what Santa brought them. Thanks to the many individuals involved. Many thanks to the Anderson Police and Fire and the road guards and to the Confederates MC for pulling this Toy Parade together.

New Beginnings Thanksgiving, Christmas and all the Toy Runs are behind us and it’s time to focus on the New Year. I know many have had some trying times this past year. Lost a lot of friends and loved ones. Some want to give up but we can’t cause the Lord is not through with us yet. The first thing out of your mouth when your eyes open each morning should be “thank you Lord for letting me see another day”. Hopefully when you got together with family and friends at Christmas you were thankful for the ones you have left. Psalms: 100: 4 says Enter into His gates with Thanksgiving and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name We’re starting a new year, 2022, how about starting it out with the King of Kings. Just remember you’re not promised tomorrow. James 4: 14 says Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Remember, all you have to do is call on Him. John 3: 16 says For God so loved the world He gave His only Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Instead of making a New Year Resolution (that probably want keep), start your 2022 on a promise that God will always be with you, only if you ask Him into your life and serve Him.

35th Annual Bikers Of Gaston County Toy Run By Wally Wersching n Sunday, November 28th, the 35th Annual Bikers of Gaston County Toy Run (Toys for Tots) was held at the Erwin Community Center in Gastonia, NC. The run was scheduled to start at 1:00PM, ride through a few small communities with police escort, and eventually wind up at the Westfield Eastridge Mall parking lot to drop off the toys. Bikers give the toys to the Salvation Army for distribution to children in Gaston and Lincoln counties. They didn’t have one last year because of the pandemic. I was glad to see that they were having it again this year. It is always a great time! When I left home at 11:00AM, it was chilly (around 50 degrees), but sunny. I dressed in my long johns, and leather jacket along with my gauntlet winter gloves. I was comfortable riding on the interstate. As I was riding, I noticed that the traffic going in the opposite direction was going very slowly, and solidly packed together. I was glad that my lanes were moving with room to spare. I always like to keep my distance from the cars and trucks around me. I exited at Rt 321 to head south, and turned right onto Davidson Street. The community center was a couple blocks on the right. When I parked, there were only a few other bikes in the little park that surrounded the center with the baseball field across the street. I knew that in a short time, the park would be full of all kinds of motorcycles. Bob Karney – Carolinas’ Biker Lawyer had a van at the event with two young ladies handing out 2022 calendars, and other goodies. They were

very friendly posing for pictures with anyone who wanted a picture with them. I noticed that there was almost a solid line of motorcycles coming in. Most came as one’s and two’s but there were quite a few large groups. Some of the bikers parked in the upper lot next to the road for easy exit. In the park, the bikes were directed onto the track. There would be an easy exit from the track because they would already be in a line. I walked to the line of motorcycles looking for something unusual or a Victory. Most of the bikes were cruisers – Harleys and the like. There were quite a few Can-Am Spyders, crotch rockets, and a Ural sidecar too. I saw a few Victory motorcycles but the riders were away from their bikes. I did stop to talk with a couple young ladies who rode in on their Can-Am Rykers. Later, I stopped by a couple Victory motorcycles – a Cross Country and a Hammer. They were owned by two brothers, and we all shared a few stories about riding a Victory. As I watched the bikes roll in, I saw some very expensive customs. They looked like they just rolled off a photo shoot for a biker magazine. The lot on the top-right was full of Police squad cars, and motorcycles that would escort the run to the mall. Then there was Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer – Biker Style. I used to see him at every Toy Run but he said that he still has to work so he can’t make them all. I checked my watch, and it was after 1:00PM. The circular path was completely full of bikes. The other parking lots were full too. The overflow

was going up by the squad cars for a place to park. The run hadn’t started yet. There were still many bikes rolling in. I left, and on my way to I85, every gas station and restaurant parking lot was full of motorcycles on their way to the Toy Run. On I85, I was concerned that there would still be a backup heading back to Shelby. The lanes heading to Charlotte were backed up, and bumper-to-bumper. I had no problem keeping my speed and distance all the way to Shelby. I was lucky! I will definitely go to next year’s Gastonia toy run. I never know what I’ll see rolling in or who I’ll meet.

We sat eating our meal thinking how gracious it was to be nominated by Children’s Advocacy and Protection Center and how awesome it was to be in great company with all of these deserving groups and individuals, and then they announced “The Winner of this Year’s Giving from the Heart….Twisted Covenant Motorcycle Club”. We jumped up like we had won the Oscar Awards, but that’s how it felt to us. We high fived, hugged, and even the announcer commented, “ok guys, come on up…looks like the Grammys over there”. But he was right, that’s how it felt. By Wally Wersching n Sunday, December 12th, The Cleveland County CBA/ABATE held their 13th Annual Ride to the Men’s and Women’s Shelters of Cleveland County. The ride originated at the Shelby VFW Post 4066 on Sumter Street in Shelby, and left at 12:00PM. The donations of toiletries, cleaning supplies, and other simple things listed on the flyer were collected before the ride. When Cindy went shopping last week, she bought a bag of toiletries for the shelter. Other than the shaving cream and razors, they could be used by any man, woman, or child.

I rode “Miss Vickie” to the VFW Post, and arrived about 11:15AM. It was a beautiful clear sunny day with temps in the low 50’s. I parked away from all the other bikes because I didn’t want “Miss Vickie’ to be in the way when they left. I dropped my packages off at the pick-up truck. Haley quickly sorted them for an easy delivery. She was concerned that there wouldn’t be a lot of participation because she changed the time of the event. Last year it didn’t leave until 2:00PM. She had to change the time because the Royal Priesthood Motorcycle Ministry has their Sunday service at 2:00PM, and many of the people who would come were from that ministry. I really enjoy coming to these events where everybody is there for the same reason- to help people in need. The group from the Royal Priesthood Motorcycle Ministry rolled in with as many cars and trucks as motorcycles. They brought the gifts to the truck which was getting full by then. Haley was in charge. She’s the face of the Cleveland County CBA/ABATE. Her smile makes everyone feel welcome. She really takes this ride seriously. She got Christmas gifts for each of the children at the shelters. They were all wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper too. As it got closer to 12:00PM, Haley got everybody together for a group talk and prayer. She explained where the ride would go, and what not to do at the locations – no picture taking of any of the people in the shelters. They need their privacy. “Rev”, the chaplain of the ministry said a short prayer before everybody went to their respective bikes and cars. Then Haley and “Snake” (Haley’s dad) led the group out of the parking lot. They all roared out. After they all left, the Sunday afternoon was quiet again. I left, and headed home. It was a great way to spend a Sunday morning with friends helping people in need.

36th Annual Greenville, County SC ABATE Toy Run By: Bill Gallaway n Sunday, December 5th at 12:00 P.M. the bikes started lining up outside the Greenville Shrine Club for the 36th Annual ABATE Christmas Toy Run. This Toy Run is the oldest and longest running Toy run in Greenville, SC. The day was a partly sunny cool day with temps in the high 50’s to low 60’s. The Toy Run Parade was scheduled to start at 2:00 PM and by that time there were over 320 bikes and riders lined up with their bikes overflowing with toys. There were many folks besides me hanging out and visiting with old friends in the staging area of the parking lot which was completely full of bikes. I visited with some friends from the Wren Fire Department and made some new ones. That’s how the crowd is; many friendly folks there for the same purpose. That purpose was to benefit abused and unfortunate children. Again, this year commemorative T-shirts were being sold with the proceeds going to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. This year they sold out by 12:30. They always go fast I didn’t get one this year but still have last year’s that I wear proudly. The ride left the Shrine club at 2:00 PM sharp with an escort by the Parker District fire department and the Greenville County Sheriff’s Dept. They traveled thru Greenville until arriving at their destination in front of Storage Sense located on White Horse Road. Those that went directly to the finish could hear the roar of the thundering motorcycles and the siren of the firetruck as they approached. Those that didn’t ride were for the most part in cages and went directly to the finish carrying toys for the under-privileged children of the Julie Valentine Center that benefits sexual assault and child abuse survivors. It was a well-attended event and will make a lot of children happy on Christmas morning. Many thanks to all involved in making this toy run a success as always.

ABATE Of Oconee County Annual Toy Run By: Bill Gallaway

December 11th, 2021 was the 28th Annual Oconee County, SC ABATE Toy Run which helps underprivileged children receive Christmas toys. The ride staged at noon and departed at 1:00 pm from the Depot in Westminster, SC. This year the weather was uncooperative, and we didn’t have a Police escort along the way to our destination the VFW Post 6830 in Walhalla located at 2415 Highlands Hwy. The weather was cool and misty with temps in the mid50s; the clouds came rolling in around 2:30 well after the Toy Run. This year members and friends arrived at the VFW, placed their toys on the table allocated for the toys and an hour later there were 6 packing boxes full of toys that arrived. The toys were brought in by the Chief of Police of Westminster Chief Matt Patterson. This gesture by the Westminster Police helped take the Toy Run closer to the goal of two tables full of toys and will provide the children of Oconee County a very Merry Christmas by having a present to open on Christmas Morning. Westminster are truly Santa’s helpers. After delivery of the toys, some members helped spread the Christmas cheer at the VFW where lunch was served. There was chicken and rice, potato and minestrone soup available. I might say that the minestrone was delicious. Thanks go out to everyone involved in the 28th Annual ABATE Toy Run, especially Mary Oglesby, Bobbie Smith, Matt Patterson, Allen Moore, Lauren Bryson, Scott Sullinger, Pat Sterling, Deb and Bruce Pierce and Grace. Hopefully next year things will be back to what we know as normal and 2022 will be a year of prosperity for everyone.

Operation Ride Home program to raise funds for active military members to furnish transportation home for the holidays. Throughout October and November, Baxter’s Tavern raised funds by selling tickets for a Jack Honey cooler loaded with Jack swag. The winner was Cola Johnson of American Legion Post 87. The runner-ups were Pete Phillips and Carol Barker each taking home Jack Daniels products. There was a Jack Daniel’s camping chair auctioned off as well. I want to thank everyone who bought tickets to support the troops!! A huge shout out to Rose Luquer for selling more tickets than could be printed, Jackie Childress and Susan Embler for selling tickets. Thanks to Stanley Mitchell, Ralph Childress and Ricky Michael “Dimples” for special purchases of Jack Daniels !!! Tina, Roz and myself want to thank everyone for drinking Jack Daniel’s or sharing it with friends during this special event. The Operation Ride Home event ended with Sammy Turner and The Dirty South Band playing Saturday night. Rosalie, our Jack Daniel’s Rep. was present and received a check from Legion Post 87 for their donation to Operation Ride Home. Donations totaled $2,500.00. Thank you everyone who drank, sipped, toasted, purchased, sold and raised a glassed to our TROOPS. Be proud you helped BRING THEM HOME for the holidays!

Dale’s Wheels Through Time 19th Annual Raffle Day

By: Anchor with excerpts from WheelsThroughTime.com ale’s Wheels Through Time, home to America’s premier collection of rare and vintage American motorcycles, held its 19th annual Raffle Day on November 20. Each year, the museum finds, restores, and then gives away a classic American motorcycle through its annual raffle, the nonprofit’s biggest fundraiser. The raffle, started in 2002 by the museum’s founder Dale Walksler, exists to help sustain the cost of operations and to ensure the mission of preserving American motorized history continues for generations to come. When we pulled up to the Dale’s wheel through time museum in Maggie Valley North Carolina the place was already

packed before the event even started! The kids having fun and people reminiscing with old friends that they have seen in a while. Everybody gets excited that they can walk over and look at any motorcycle in the shop, be amazed at the craftsmanship and the fact that these machines run so beautifully. The Wheels Through Time staff made sure that everybody felt welcomed and comfortable and was at the ready for anybody’s questions. The Museum is such a special place that a couple in attendance get engaged that afternoon in honor of the museum and their love of motorcycles. This year’s raffle bike was a 1948 Harley-Davidson Panhead. The Panhead, considered to be a “milestone machine,” is one of the most popular and recognizable bikes ever produced by HarleyDavidson. The bike marked the last raffle bike that museum Founder Dale Walksler had personally restored. The day’s events were dedicated in memory of Dale Walksler, who passed away earlier this year after an extended battle with cancer. “It’s been a year filled with mixed emotions. The loss of our founder, my dad Dale Walksler, has continually been on our mind, coupled with the amazing support of all of our visitors throughout the year. I know he would be so proud and excited

to see all the people here today and for the record-setting year we’ve had at the museum,” said museum Vice-President and Curator Matt Walksler. When it was time to pull the winning raffle tickets, Todd Campbell of East Palestine, OH was named the winner of that beautiful ’48 Panhead. Todd was not in attendance but Matt Walksler called him and left a message that he had won. Ten thousand dollars goes to the second place winner, Sharon Crickmar of Raleigh, NC, who also wasn’t in attendance and didn’t answer the phone. Rex Gore of Miamisburg, OH was watching the live stream of the event and happily answered the phone to accept the five-thousand-dollar 3rd place prize. Matt also unveiled the 2022 raffle bike, a beautiful 1937 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead in a one-year-only color, Delphine Blue striped in Teak Red with hand gold and silver leaf tank badges. Even though I didn’t win, it was a great day in Maggie Valley, NC at the Dale’s Wheels Through Time Museum. This even ended the year for DWTT, but the museum will reopen for the 2022 season on April 7th, 2022. Hot Dog And Bake Sale Fundraiser For JR McGinnis By Wally Wersching n November 13th, the Southern Christian Cruisers held a fundraiser for one of their own – JR McGinnis who almost died while fighting the effects of Covid and pneumonia. While JR was sick, all the club could do was pray for him (and it worked), but now they want to do something to help with his expenses, so they held the fundraiser. The location was the True Gospel Holiness Church in Kings Mountain, NC and for a $5.00 donation, a complete hotdog lunch was served with two hotdogs, chips, a drink, and a dessert. When I left home at 10:15, it was chilly with temps in the mid 50’s but the sun was shining in a bright blue Carolina sky. I wore my Victory leather jacket to make the ride comfortable – and it was. Luckily, I knew where the church was located as I had attended other events at the church. I rode east on Rt 74, and exited onto Business 74, then continued toward Kings Mountain. There was a small sign for the hot dog lunch by the road. I saw it as I was pulling in. The church is not visible from the road The fundraiser was supposed to start at 11:00AM, so I arrived at the church at 10:45AM, and parked “Miss Vickie” next to the other bike in the lot. I took a stack of Full Throttle magazines out of my pack, and walked toward the building. Before I got to the door, I saw that “Whit” was cooking the hot

When I went inside, I placed the stack of magazines on the table, and gave the lady my donation. I didn’t want the hot dogs because Cindy and I planned to go out for lunch when I got home. I did talk the lady out of a small bag of Cheetos though. Cindy likes them. Then I met JR and his wife. He was very lucky to be alive by the way he talked – he was very sick with life-threatening issues. He talked about becoming an inspirational speaker to tell about his ordeal, and what the Lord conveyed to him. He wasn’t sure how to do it – to get all his thoughts together. I told him that whenever he has an idea to write it down no matter what it is. When he gets a lot of ideas on the paper to sit down, and organize them into a thought, and then a speech. I hope that my idea helps him. I learned later that over $2,000 was donated to JR. That’s a lot of hot dogs and pastries for one day! At about 11:30AM, I said my good-bys, and headed home. It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning – helping someone in need, and making new friends.

Fortunately for me I am not in the obese range, but I am technically overweight. I have resolved to get myself back to a healthy BMI this year. All I have to do is grow 18 inches. In my defense, when you hear an Arab counting down from 10, your instincts kick in. This is a word to the wise for all my friends. I would like to share an experience with you, it has to do with drinking and driving. As you know some of us have had brushes with the authorities over the years. On New Year’s Eve, I was at The Shark Tank Bar in Salisbury. After drinking too much, and knowing full well that I was wasted, I did something I’ve never done before. Believe it or not, I took a bus home. Yes, a bus. I arrived home safely and without incident. This was really a surprise to me since I have never driven a bus before. Students in an advanced Biology class were taking their mid-term test. The last question was, ‘’Name seven advantages of Mother’s Milk,’’ worth 70 points or none at all. One student, in particular, was hard put to think of seven advantages. He wrote: 1.) It’s the perfect formula for the child. 2.) It provides immunity against several diseases. 3.) It’s always the right temperature. 4.) It’s inexpensive. 5.) It bonds the child to mother, and vice versa. 6.) It’s always available as needed. And then, the student was stuck - he could not think of the 7th advantage. Finally, in desperation, just before the bell rang indicating the end of the test, he wrote...7.)
