T

he Easyriders Bike Show Tour seems long ago and far away from my perspective today, but it was a big deal to a lot of Carolina builders and motorcycle aficionados and there were some outstanding bikes in the show. The pictures of the bikes as well as the winners are available online for free at FullThrottleMagazine.com. If you came by our booth, you know that we made a lot of people very happy. We distributed 1600 magazines and sold 144 souvenir shot glasses! Well, The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine 16th attempt, Almost A Tradition, Pre-Daytona, Valentine’s Day Party And Oyster Roast is history! Not only is it history, it was a huge success and marks the beginning or the spring riding season in the Carolinas. Read all about it in this issue and check out the pictures at FullThrottleMagazine.com. This is another of those “If I have to explain it to you, you wouldn’t understand” galleries of pictures. As always you can download any of them for free. The NASCAR season is finally underway and the car guys have vacated Daytona and now the bikers take over for the 73rd time. If you have never been to Daytona, I urge you to ride south and enjoy the spring rally. I know that you will come back a different person. Personally, I never came back! When you get back, you will know what I mean by that. Now we are already working on the April issue and it will have Myrtle Beach Bike Week advertisements in it. There are already some in this issue. Check them out and make plans to visit them and have a big time. If you plan to stay in the area instead of making the trek to Daytona, there is no shortage of events to choose from. The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine is proud to present, on a monthly basis, the most complete listing of motorcycle events that I have ever seen, anywhere. We list every event that we can find and let you chose which ones to attend. If you think you have what it takes to work with the #1 motorcycle magazine in the Carolinas (motorcycle, computer, cell phone, digital camera, ball point pen) and are dependable and halfway intelligent, we want to talk with you. We need people to sell ads, cover events, and deliver magazines all over North & South Carolina. It ain’t for everybody, but if you think you want to do it, call me and we can make it happen. I didn’t list a phone number because if you can’t figure that out, we do not need you!

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine 16th Attempt, Almost A Tradition, Pre-Daytona, Valentine’s Day Party, and Oyster Roast By: Mark Infield You know, sometimes things just do not go the way you want them to. That is why we call this event an “attempt”. One year, it just didn’t happen! Oh, we made all the arrangements and we advertised the event. What we didn’t anticipate is the landlord not renewing our lease. Party cancelled! This time of year, the weather is a factor in every facet of our lives in the Carolinas. This year was no exception. If you are reading this in print, you know exactly what I am talking about. It started snowing here about noon on Wednesday and by late evening we had 5” of snow on the ground and

everything else, too. Thursday was a “snow day” and barely anything moved. Some people shoveled their walks and driveways. Others, like the local governments, use the tried and true “wait a few days and it will be gone” method of snow removal. The state roads were plowed, but getting to them could be a real adventure. By Friday, most people could go anywhere they wanted to and rain, not snow, was in the forecast. When the big day arrived it was misty in the morning, but moving east and promising sunshine by noon. When the sun came out, so did The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine readers. Things started buzzing around Lucky’s Saloon in Burlington with the arrival of the oysters, chicken wings, and

the grille. While Tim Nall (A & M Crane) and Moose got the grille in position, Lincoln got the oyster steamer going and Lydia was sectioning the wings. The Free Eagle Band set up, banners were hung, and Barry Hicks, owner of Lucky’s Saloon began shuttling people in from local motels. Alamance County CBA set up a booth by the door and Down Home Harley-Davidson displayed two sparkling 2014 Harley-Davidson Motorcycles. Ginger Karney (The Karney Law Firm) was busy signing calendars and World Class Powersports was giving away raffle tickets to win a 2013 Victory Vegas 8-Ball the next weekend. C & S Customs brought a nice bike to display and Scott’s mindset was good time’n. Compassionate Bikers of Alamance County were selling tickets for a 2014 H-D Street Glide to benefit The Biscuit Foundation and on the inside, our very own Renea Clutts was issuing the “Deal Of The Day”, an event t-shirt and 5 raffle tickets as fast as she could. Sarah and Julie were serving up the cold beverages to a bar that stood two deep most of the afternoon. Back outside the aroma of chicken wings and steaming oysters prompted guests to form a line like they always do when food is involved. It paid off in the end and they polished off 200 pounds of wings and 5 boxes of Louisiana oysters. Inside, in between Free Eagle’s sets, the crush was on for some raffle items that included cool stuff from Budweiser, Miller Lite, C & S Customs, and The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. It was elbow to elbow in there! Soon enough it was time to raffle off the diamond heart pendant from Hayes Jewelers. Lisa had the winning number and whisked it away. Now it was time for the BIG deal of the day. Todd Philyah of Burlington won the 50” HD TV. I say he watched Daytona qualifying LARGE! Todd, We are coming to your house to watch NASCAR on Sunday! Got beer? So The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine 16th Attempt, Almost A Tradition, Pre-Daytona, Valentine’s Day Party, and Oyster Roast is history. I hope that you were there to enjoy it with us, but if you missed it for whatever reason, we will do it again next year on the Saturday closest to Valentine’s Day, so watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine for the ads and make plans to be there. We want to thank Barry Hicks of Lucky’s Saloon for hosting this year’s party and Adam’s Towing for providing the shuttle service along with Down Home Harley-Davidson for sponsoring the wings, Bob Karney, Carolinas’ Biker Lawyer, for sponsoring the oysters, Hayes Jewelers “King of Diamonds” for sponsoring the diamond heart pendant, World Class Powersports, C & S Customs, Compassionate Bikers of Alamance

A Tube Of Lipstick And A Motorcycle By: WildThing What? Lipstick used as a ladies’ cosmetic to enhance beauty was considered brazen and uncouth in eighteenth and nineteenth century Europe and America. Then along came wonderful innovations in the early years of the twentieth century that changed the world and the mores and habits of the people. By 1912 fashionable American women had come to consider lipstick ‘acceptable’. It was usually sold in a pot and applied with a brush although some were packaged in paper tubes. Other areas of innovation and invention astounded the American public; chief among these was the automobile and the motorcycle. Transportation was changed forever. At the same time, women were inspired to come out of their homes, hike up their skirts, and follow their courageous Victorian sisters who rode bicycles, out into the streets and learn to ride a motorcycle. In 1915, the year the first tube of lipstick was sold in America, 21 year-old Effie Hotchkiss and her mother, Avis, who didn’t want her daughter to go alone, as that just wasn’t done in those days, rode a Harley with a sidecar rig from Brooklyn, New York five thousand miles to San Fran-

cisco, California to see the World’s Fair. Back in those days, most of the ‘roads’ were little more than trails usually muddy and rutted out in the country, city streets being just a little bit smoother. Not to mention what a shock it must have been for rural folks, who may never have seen a motorcycle, let alone one with women riders! This journey was an escape (sound familiar?) for Effie from the monotony and tension of her Wall Street bank clerk job that had begun to wear on her nerves. She had daydreamed about taking to the open road on a motorcycle. The purchase of the motorcycle was made with inherited funds and the sidecar was packed with travel essentials like a revolver, camping equipment, toolbox, and spare parts. Effie had to serve as mechanic as needed, learn to cross streams, and negotiate muddy terrain in their three-month excursion to the coast, while Avis occupied the sidecar and usually spent the time tatting. Effie stated that she didn’t intend to make the news, just that she and her mother, “Wanted to see America and considered that the three-speed Harley-Davidson, for myself and the sidecar for mother and the luggage, best suited for the job”. Upon arrival at the Pacific Ocean, Effie poured out some water from the Atlantic Ocean that the women had carried in a small jar all the way from New York. The round trip of 9000 miles was accomplished in five months and was covered by newspapers across the country. This was the first mother - daughter transcontinental motorcycle journey in history. This story is one of so many from the early days of motorcycling of notable, courageous women who have paved the way all through the twentieth century with their exploits on the open road for 21st century women to cherish and celebrate as we enjoy the same freedom of the open road. However, Effie’s primitive machine would still cause wonderment compared to the chrome embellished, flashy painted motorcycles of today.

A Friend Indeed

By: dpapabear You often hear about biker families/communities, etc., but how often do you make new friends when out riding? Every trip, we hope. On a recent trip to The Riders Roost in Ferguson, NC, with a group of friends, we had the opportunity to welcome a 76-year-young gent, Terry Taylor (aka Santa), from the Salisbury area into our family. He was traveling alone on his 2004 BMW with a sidecar, pulling a pop-up camper and setting up camp when we struck up a conversation with him and started learning some interesting facts. Santa, usually alone, has traveled all around the states on his bike, including a 2 ½ week trip to Alaska. Well, if you know anything about Alaska, then you know most of the roads are gravel there and the area is mostly very remote. Santa was telling me about stopping at a restaurant there, where the building was just like most of our local establishments with the exception of the roof which was just a tarp stretched over the rafters. He inquired about when the owner was going to finish the roof and the proprietor informed him it was complete. The business was closed during the winter months, so they stored all the inside equipment and removed the tarps. If you had a roof but didn’t maintain heat inside the building during the snow months, the weight of the snow would collapse the roof system. Next season, when the snow has melted, they just clean up the inside, put their equipment back in place, tarp back over the supports, and they’re back open for business. Santa told me about visiting Homer, Alaska and the bay would be empty during the night and full of seaplanes during the day. That was one way the residents traveled to do their shopping. He was also telling me about seeing snowmobiles, 4 wheel ATVs, sleds or such parked at the roadway/driveways, where people had taken them from their home out to the road and switched to a vehicle to commute to town or work. Another way of travel was in planes, landing on the roadways and just parking along the shoulders of the highway while taking care of business. As you can image the landscape there can be pretty rough on a bike. He also told me of an adventure before the sidecar was added, when in a parking lot, with camping gear strapped on the bike, it fell over and 4 women came out and helped him pick it back up. It was embarrassing! Hence, the sidecar addition! Besides the motorized 2 or 3 wheels, Terry is also an avid bicycle rider. He averages 40–60 miles each trip. If extreme weather prohibits outside riding, he rides one of his two trainers inside. He rides in the county, state, and national senior games as well as completing in the timed rides at Charlotte Motor Speedway and has several Bronze Medals in his respective age brackets. He has also ridden cross-county, in 1976 Bike Centennial, an 80-day, 4250-mile trip, just for kicks. What do you do in your spare time? Ha-ha! On top of that he works at public transportation 5 days a week and helps his brother’s family maintain a farm and business in the Salisbury area. While his brother is away doing shows for the business,

Santa takes care of feeding and caring for 15-20 Texas Longhorns, numerous chickens, both domestic and exotic, and other farm critters. I don’t know how he finds time to ride his BMW, with close to 60,000 miles on it, at all. He does have a car but it is only for emergency use. Ha-ha! Since he has been riding with our group, he says (with a big grin) that he has never had so many women riding, hugging, and hanging around him. But I think he is enjoying it! He has traveled with our family to the Boone Bike Rally, The Full Throttle Magazine Fear of Feb Party, Wilmington Rodeo Riders, Riders Roost, Freebourne’s, visited some of our homes and just our daily rides out to eat or wherever. He started sending messages and pics when with us to his sons in Georgia and Florida, and they are telling us he sure seems to be happy to be riding with us and being part of our family. His son from Georgia joined him on a trip to the Rodeo Riders Clubhouse in Wilmington back in September for a fundraiser for a lady dealing with cancer. Go to www.FullThrottleMagazine.com, and check out the pictures. Terry, we as a family welcome you and hope your ride and journey will be long, many and always enjoyable. It’s not just the destination, but the journey along the way that makes life worth living and keeps us carrying on! Ride Safe! , 5,'(

John James McGinty III, Medal Of Honor Recipient, Dies At 73

By: Old Spook When I got the call from David Burkman, Detachment Commander of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Chapter 34-1-2 alerting me to the passing of another great American hero, it conjured up memories of Vietnam that left me both depressed and filled with pride. Depressed for how the public has forgotten the sacrifice of these brave and humble men and filled with pride to know that these men still exist. David put together a group of riders to make the trip from the Charleston area to Beaufort on a 35º Thursday morning to honor one of our finest. In the killing ground of Vietnam, on July 18,1966, Staff Sergeant McGinty was in charge of a platoon designated to cover the withdrawal a battalion that had been 4 days in battle with the Viet Cong. His 32 men beat back a continuing assault over the course of 4 hours. Two of his squads were separated during one of the assaults. McGinty sprinted through automatic weapons fire and mortar fire to reach them. He found one dead and 20 wounded. He reloaded their magazines and rallied his wounded men to fight. Badly wounded himself, McGinty commanded his troops and orchestrated close-in air strikes in a steady attack that turned back the enemy. When his position was overrun he used his .45 sidearm to kill 5 enemy soldiers at point blank range. As his son, Michael, related, “There were 5,000 guys running at him with machine guns and he wouldn’t give up. And he wouldn’t let his guys give up, and they never did and they came out on top.” This was one of the few MOH recipients that was a soldier’s soldier. He came up through the ranks and, on his return to

Best Selection In America

Paris Island as a training NCO, eventually rose to the rank of Captain. Captain McGinty passed away on January 17, 2014. He had to be talked into the funeral that honored him. I’ve never seen so many stars (Generals) in attendance. The Marines know how to honor their own. The ceremony was both emotional and inspiring. When 4 jets flew overhead in the missing man formation, there couldn’t have been a dry eye in the place. One interesting side note about the .45 pistol. McGinty’s USMC M1911 pistol mentioned in his Medal Of Honor citation was stolen from a display in 1978. In 2011, history buff George Berry purchased the pistol from an auction. Curious about the name engraved on the pistol, Berry contacted McGinty and subsequently returned the pistol to its rightful owner. McGinty sent back another M1911 pistol along with a Medal Of Honor challenge coin in gratitude.

3rd Annual Bike Build Off

81 Team Fayetteville This year’s Bike Build Off was such a fantastic time and a great turnout! It was set up and hosted by 81 Team Fayetteville, NC at Speakeasy Bar, located at 3984 Sycamore Dairy Road in Fayetteville, NC. The weather was chilly so they managed to have it in the roomy inside of the bar. Overall the event was heavily attended by hundreds of people from motorcycle clubs and independents alike, and according to a Speakeasy family member, this was the best event yet. It was the first event held completely inside the nightclub, with the exception of food vendors, and it turned out well. Many of our recurring and very dedicated vendors participated again, including Cape Fear HD, Ray Price of Fayetteville Triumph and Ducati, Tom Russell’s T-n-A Custom Cycles, Victory of Fayetteville, Victory and Polaris, Final Touch Powder Coating, and Freedom Biker Church. Some of our new vendors this year, and we hope to see much more of them, include Harp Leather with some awesome hand tooled leather goods, Elite Tattoos, KCB’s Tactical Chaos, and a variety of awesome custom bike

builders including Crazy Beavers Customs, Mutiny Cycle Works, and Krazyapes Customs. There were 10 trophies given out for different classes of bikes. The types of bikes were Old School, Most Extreme, Sickest Bike, Most Original, and Rat Bike. Dead City Symphony provided live music. What a band! They were a hit. They played lots of great music, and the people really enjoyed them. We love this winter event and promise that next year’s event will be larger and better, with more bikes in the competition and on display. Come join Speakeasy every Thursday night for bike night from 7pm until. They have live music and free food until it’s all gone. Watch for The Speakeasy’s events in their ad and in The Carolina’s Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for future events to be announced.

Just To Ride

By: Old Spook On a brisk, cool January Sunday, a few of the American Legion Riders and Combat Vets got the itch to crank up their bikes and head to Folly Beach for a beer. We don’t need no stinkin’ excuse to ride, but this made a good one! There is nothing, with the exception of an open cockpit bi-plane that equals a ride on your bike on a cold, brisk day. If you have a headache or need to clear your head of the extraneous bulls#!t life hands you, there is no better remedy than jumping on your bike and heading out. I don’t remember the name of the bar (does it matter?), but the guys seemed to enjoy it and had a good time. Just about the time when we got ready for our second drink, a stream of bikes appeared heading toward the main drag down the beach. Seems the bar they were going to was closed so they turned around a headed toward us. The group that that joined us belonged to a new riding club out of the Boeing plant in North Charleston. Rick Pomeroy of the Boeing Employees Motorcycle Riding Club filled me in on their organization. The group currently consists of 45 members that meet the 2nd Sunday of every month. This Sunday appeared to be a good time for a ride. The CVMA/Legion guys headed out the back roads toward the municipal golf course and then down River Road toward Kiawah Island and Bohicket Road. This is a great ride for any

of you that visit the low country. We split off at Main Road and Route 17 and headed off in different directions. The end of a ride is like taking a deep breath and letting it all out with a sense of peace and relaxation. See you all on the road.

HOTVIC - American Made By: Everette “EZ” Short While most motorcycle parts manufacturers were just figuring out why “Chinese Chrome” falls off faster than a stripper’s zipper, Coastal Victory was putting together real steel American parts that are both eye catching in their gleam and durable for years to come. The latest incarnation of their incredible parts division is called “Hot Vic”, with an extensive new lineup of highly detailed aftermarket parts for Victory motorcycles. These parts are exclusively American made upgrades that include gorgeous custom wheels laser cut from a single block, with complete upgrade kits available for everything from their impressive 21” tire and wheel packages, to the 26” monster setup that includes tire, wheel, factory color fenders and all the hardware necessary for that one of a kind look. These top shelf innovators also offer a variety of high performance exhaust power cones, and tips made from high grade American chrome and brushed aluminum, several serious air intake systems, precision etched custom cover sets, cool sissy bars, rubber mounted floorboards, comfortable grips, stylish levers, and a wild selection of great custom parts for all makes of Victory cruisers. On the softer side, their new ground breaking process of Hydrographic infused upgrades include multicolored matching dash and chin spoiler kits, extended hard saddlebags that feature factory looking covers with a built-in speaker system and pre-wired hookups to turn your bags into thumping subwoofers. All of these parts show off great custom designs to

create that wow factor. If you already own a Victory cruiser, then you will go absolutely bonkers when you see what these guys have come up with to turn your ride into a real life “look-at-that” head turner. 20th Annual Burlington H.O.G. And Down Home Harley-Davidson Hospice Bike Show

By: Scott Wicker The three-day stretch of snow, ice, and less than ideal weather had no effect on this year’s 20th Annual Burlington H.O.G. Hospice Bike Show. In fact, it will go down as the group’s most successful bike show ever. The event was held at the Holly Hill Mall in Burlington on February 15th and 16th. 68 motorcycles represented 38 classes and categories to raise over $24,500 for Hospice of Alamance and Caswell Counties. A handful of brave riders actually rode through the snow to get to the show. The number of entries was down this year due to weather, but attendance was heavy at times. Throughout the show’s history, it has raised over $250,000 in contributions. 90 trophies were awarded in 14 classes. There were also 2 Top Fuel Harley-Davidsons in the competition as well. Each bike had milk jugs tied to the front wheel so spectators could make contributions by putting money in the jug of their favorite bike. As in years past, everyone was allowed to raise contributions prior to the event. Trophies were awarded in each class to those who raised the most and to those who raised the 2nd and 3rd highest amounts also. The Sport Touring Class had the most entries with 9. The class also collected the most donations with over $5,000. The Full Dresser Class raised over $4,500 and the Softail Class raised over $4,000. Contributions were also raised through sales of 50/25/25 tickets and the Ladies Of Harley bake sale held at the event, too. All the bikes were also judged separately by a panel of judges making it two shows in one. As in years past, the support was overwhelming. The winners and top finishers in each class are as follows. The Brand New South Carolina Biker Hall Of Fame By: Everette “EZ” Short The state of South Carolina has always been the birthplace and stomping grounds for a whole cast of highly animated and colorful characters riding motorcycles. Here in the South, we have a saying called “Watch This...” which has preceeded some ridiculously amazing sights involving motorcycles. This month, for you hard core riders out there who live in this rich state of riding history, it’s time to nominate your choices for the first ever South Carolina Biker Hall Of Fame, but you’ll have to hurry to get your nominations in, since you only have until March 8th to get the necessary forms filled out and submitted. Located inside of world famous drive-thru biker haven, Suck Bang Blow in Murrells Inlet, the South Carolina Biker Hall of Fame is the brainchild of our own Bill Barber with Will Couch, Kirk Yedinak, Maiko Saravia, and Dickie Martin rounding out the Board Of Directors for this spanking new non-profit organization. The criteria for nomination is based on those who contributed in the form of racing, competition, builders, persons responsible for political activism, event organizers, publishers, artists, stunt riders, manufacturers, fabricators, charitable contributors to the sport, and anyone else that you think has made enough of a contribution to be considered as an icon of the South Carolina biker community. So, if you think you’re up for a nomination, then get someone to download the form at the South Carolina Biker Hall Of Fame website on Facebook and e-mail the completed form to Bill@SuckBangBlow.com. You can also go by the location at 3393 Highway 17 Business in Murrells Inlet, SC to get a hard copy and fill it out over a cold beverage or two or call SBB at 843-651-7960 for more information. The first ever Induction Ceremony will be held on-site at SBB on March 22nd with Joe Santana’s Kingfish serving up

the entertainment from 7pm until they close the doors. Come out and see some legends get shown their due respect and tell them you read about it in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. Thaaat’s Right!

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine

A Tale Of Two Shops

By: Mark Carlyle In the November issue of the Carolina’s Full Throttle we ran an article for The Florida edition of Full Throttle. It announced it was holding its First Annual Biker Build off Invitational in Tampa, FL on January 24th thru the 26th. When I saw this it brought to mind two customers who advertise with CFT; Iron Station Thunder and C&S Custom Creations. I approached each shop with the opportunity and they both went to work. This was the first build of any kind for both shops. Iron Station Thunder came up with what they called the Rusty Runner. This bike came out of the minds of Brian & John. With NC Being the home of many a Moonshiner and the home of NASCAR, they built an all steel Road King. No plastic anywhere on this bike, a true one of a kind ride. There is no paint other than the frame. The bags, fairings, fenders, and tank were all acid dipped to give it different colors of rust with a clear satin finish over the rust. A 28” front wheel, 130ci Kendall Johnson motor pushing 150 HP, and a Baker 7 speed transmission make it truly a work of art!

C&S Custom Creations built a chopper with a Jesse James frame. I don’t have all the specs yet to post here. Scotty and the guys were more than ready to take on the competition in Tampa. They gained a wealth of knowledge, as this was also their first build. They had many parts custom cut for this bike like the wheels belt housings and so on. C&S was inducted into the IMBBA with the like of Indian Larry and many other renowned builders. Although they finished 4th in the choppers class they are now recognized in the builders world!

Iron Station Thunder and C&S Custom Creations wanted to thank The Carolina’s Full Throttle Magazine for nominating them for this build off. Both shops say, “We will be more than ready for next year’s build off” I personally want to CONGRATULATE both shops for their builds!

Upon arriving in Tampa, they unloaded the bike at the hotel. They fired it up and it was on. People left the venue a ¼ mile away to come see what it was that sounded like a drag car. When they set up the display with real Moonshine jugs surrounding it, it was a hit of the show! Iron Station Thunder finished Best In Class and 3rd over all. Missing by only 11 points of taking the Over All Best In Show!

Speedway Harley-Davidson Grand Opening By: Rose Crutchfield A new name; a new logo; a new owner, and a whole new feel. Saturday, January 25th Speedway Harley-Davidson had a grand opening to celebrate with all their customers, new and old, the new name and the new look. There is a lot of new staff, including the owner Aimee Rogers. The event was to promote a new year, a new dealership, and a new atmosphere for all. The goal is to entertain and bring new Harley-Davidson lovers out. Each month there will be events to show appreciation to the customers and give them a fun place to stop in and enjoy a few minutes of checking out all the new bikes, and merchandise. The grand opening featured music by DJ Todd, and Mr. Meanie Weenie Association provided BBQ sandwiches and hot dogs. Tsunami Japanese Steakhouse supplied the alcohol. The Speedway HOG Chapter participated by providing a bake sale as well as a 50/50 raffle. A bike was up for grabs with a new concept. A number was written on a card and if the number matched the last four of your driver’s license you went home with a 2013 Blackline! However no one won, but several individuals won the in-store raffles and racked up on some great Harley-Davidson items. The door count was approximately 400, and overall the event was fun and entertaining. This is just the first of many events, so be sure and check out their ad in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine each month and look for their events in the Cruisin’ Calendar. I know you will enjoy the new store. Aimee has given it a feel of welcome and a place you definitely will want to check out. Speedway Harley-Davidson is located at 10049 Weddington Road in Concord, NC just off I-85 exit 49 (Bruton Smith

Boulevard) or call 704-979-7433 and be sure to tell them that you read about Speedway Harley-Davidson in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine.

R Lo’s Valentine’s Party

By: dpapabear R Lo’s Pub & Grub in Thomasville had their Valentine’s Party on Saturday night instead of Friday so we could have an extra night to party. They have a grill and was cooking up some pretty good food for your dining, drink specials, and then Davis Tucker played some pretty good tunes and took requests from the audience. Some of the ladies got up and shook their bootys much to the delight of us guys! Some of the patrons were setting around catching up with friends, passing time, and some were playing pool. The

weather hasn’t been great for riding so far and I think most of us were just looking for an excuse to get out of the house with our honeys and thinking about the weather coming up. It’s always good to dance with your sweetheart and snuggle up close; maybe you’ll get lucky later! (Hehe) R Lo’s is a local biker friendly business that is open 7 days a week. They have great food and live music every Saturday night and sometimes Friday nights. Give them a call (336-313-5332) and see what is happening and stop in at 207 Fisher Ferry Street in Thomasville, NC and check them out. Remember whenever you are out riding, always ride safe and have fun!

American Legion Riders By: Rose and Lloyd The American Legion is an organization founded in 1919 and chartered by Congress. The mission of the legion is to support veterans, widows, and orphan children of veterans. The American Legion is a major push on fighting for veteran benefits and rights with Congress. The High Point Post 87 started as the Andrew Jackson post in 1919. Later moved to current address at 409 High Street and became the I.T. Mann Post. I.T. Mann was the 2nd commander and a prominent doctor in High Point. The American Legion Riders are well known for their charity work. They have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local children’s hospitals, schools, veteran homes and severely wounded servicemen, and scholarships. There are currently 106,000 American Legion Riders all over the United States and in at least three foreign countries. Riders in Iowa have formed An Honor Guard called “The Five Star Freedom Riders” and riders in Mulvane, Kansas founded “The Patriot Guard Riders” to protect the sanctity of military families from protesters during funerals. It you are interested in riding with a group that honors and supports our veterans now is the time. You do not have to be a veteran, just come by Post 87 at 409 High Avenue in High Point any time. The next American Legion Riders meeting will be March 9th at 2pm. You can contact the post anytime and

speak with Tim Gulledge or e-mail rlluquer@northstate.net for more details. Veterans have given up everything to serve and put their life on the line for us and the government is reducing their pay and benefits. They deserve our help and we need to support them. Hope you will contact an American Legion Post near you and join the American Legion Riders.

Easyriders 2014 Bike Show Tour - Charlotte

By: Mark Infield The 2014 edition of the Easyriders Bike Show Tour rolled into Charlotte, NC on the weekend of January 25th. This year, the weather cooperated and there was no snow or ice to stifle the crowd. It was cold and windy, though, but if that kept you away from the biggest bike show in the Carolinas, Oh Well! Once inside the Convention Center Friday afternoon and even before we registered, we began to run into old friends. It sure was great to see them all again. This year, we were assigned a killer spot for our booth right in the center aisle across from the Purrfect Angelz. We set our tables up and unloaded 1600 magazines (both current and past issues), banners, and all the other stuff necessary to survive the event. Saturday morning the hall had filled up with hundreds of beautiful motorcycles and by 10am the crowd began filing in. It wasn’t long before it was really buzzing in there. Jive Mother Mary provided the music and the Purrfect Angelz pranced around on the stage and modeled Easyriders Roadware attire. Paul Yafffe (Bagger Nation) and Kendall Johnson (KJC) were in the house. Michael Ballard and Angie from Full Throttle Saloon and Mark Boone who plays “Bobby” on the hit TV show Sons Of Anarchy were signing autographs and posing for pictures. There were door prize giveaways scattered in between sets from Jive Mother Mary. Easy Eddie’s crew assembled a motorcycle from the frame up and there was a gallery of David Mann artwork on display. There was also a car show in the back of the hall sponsored by Kick Ass Rod Shop (Denver, NC). We were swamped all day long and it wasn’t long before all 1600 magazines and 144 Full Throttle Magazine souvenir shot glasses were gone. That gave us some time to wander around and look at the motorcycles before the trophies were awarded. There were some really nice bikes in the show and it was great to visit with Lynn Isenhour, Bob Karney, Iron Horse Motorcycles, Coastal Victory, and other advertisers that were in attendance. Here is a list of the 2014 Easyriders Bike Show Tour – Charlotte, NC winners. Congratulations to you all. Your vision, skill, and determination make the Easyriders Bike Show Tour what it is. The best of the best! We are proud of you all. PEOPLE’S CHOICE BEST OF SHOW: Richard Morabito, Mauldin, SC, 2002

In Memory of Bruce W. Harris October 13, 1953 - January 23, 2014 Bruce W. Harris, 60, of Cary, NC passed away peacefully January 23, 2014 in his home surrounded by family. Church members, gun enthusiasts, motorcyclists, history enthusiasts, American patriots, and several handfuls of other groups mourn the loss of Bruce Harris. At age 60, Bruce moved out of this existence to ride free with his Creator after having shown many how one truly LIVES a life. Those who call him friend, or brother, will miss him dearly yet it is with love and appreciation we smile and laugh in full possession of the joys, lessons, and escapades he either brought us to, or brought us through. Bruce had a fully engaged mind and quick wit that he employed with great zeal as he dove through archives, maps, libraries, historic sites, in his never-ending quest To Know. He didn’t just believe, he lived his beliefs; all of them. He supported all the things that were important to him with his time, money, and intellect. Bruce lived his life with great relish and leaves many of us with opened eyes and hearts, better inspired to do the same. While all the above is true, the truest thing of all was his steadfast love, devotion, and admiration for his wife, Lois. Bruce made it quite clear to all that it was Lois who helped keep him grounded spiritually; that she was his “most beautiful woman in the world”, his greatest treasure. During the course of his illness, Bruce made sure each person in his world knew their worth in his eyes; expressed his gratitude for their love and comradeship; and assured all that his only regret was leaving Lois, when his time came. Funeral services for Bruce were Sunday, January 26th at 2:30pm in the Chapel at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC. There was a visitation for the family to receive friends Saturday, January 25th from 5-7pm at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Ink Lab Tattoo & Body Piercing Located in the heart of the triad, in Kernersville, NC, is Ink Lab Tattoo & Body Piercing. Owner and tattooist Lucas Infield has assembled a talented group of artists with over 35 years of combined experience. Established in 2009, Ink Lab is dedicated to maintaining their outstanding reputation of patience from consultation to completion, meticulous sterilization, high quality inks and body jewelry, and affordable rates in a friendly environment. Whether you are looking for a first tattoo, a cover up or re working of an older one, or a larger, more detailed piece, Lucas, Jason, Jennifer, and Codie are happy to answer all of your questions and help you make good decisions that will lead to a lifetime of enjoyment.
Everyone is welcome to bring examples of artwork that they are interested in, but an idea is really all it takes! Each tattoo is custom drawn and each booth is a private room. Lucas specializes in hand drawn Polynesian and tribal, Jason likes to do horror imagery, Jennifer specializes in Asian designs and portraiture, and Codie has his own style of new school artwork. They all specialize in crisp line work, color blending, shading, and lettering. From a small puppy paw tattoo to full sleeves and body suits, they can do it all! Pet portraits and paintings are available as well! When it comes to body piercing, the man to ask is Wade. He has been piercing for over 11 years, and besides using only hand polished surgical stainless steel body jewelry, he is honest and realistic about placement, and precise and quick with his piercings. Artists at Ink Lab also spend a lot of time with clients explaining after care, which leads to quick healing times and better, long lasting tattoos and body piercings! Their portfolios are online at www.InkLabTattoo. com, and they are on Facebook, but nothing beats a visit to meet them and see the difference for yourself! Consider this an invitation to drop by 210 Century Boulevard (right off West Main Street) in Kernersville, NC. They are open 12-9 Tuesday-Saturday. Call 336-497-4998 for more information.

Founded by former NASCAR driver and racing analyst Kyle Petty, the ride raises funds and awareness for Victory Junction, a camp created to enrich the lives of children with chronic or life threatening illnesses. “What began as just a few friends having a good time riding track to track has turned into what we have today, which is an incredible event that provides thousands of life changing experiences for children,” said Petty. “This is the first year we’ve traveled straight from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean, and I’m looking forward to experiencing it with friends, while meeting our fans and generous supporters along the way.” The 2014 Kyle Petty Charity Ride Schedule: • Day 1 Saturday, May 3 - Carlsbad, Calif. to Tucson, Ariz.

This year NASCAR Hall of Famer and seven time champion Richard Petty, NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth, former NASCAR driver and Bo-Dyn Olympic bobsled founder Geoff Bodine, NASCAR legends Harry Gant and Donnie Allison, former NFL great Herschel Walker, Fox News contributor and former member of the U.S. House of Representatives Col. Allen West, and co-host of History Channel’s Top Gear America and NASCAR personality Rutledge Wood plan to participate in all or part of the 20th Anniversary Ride. “It’s amazing to see how one tragedy (Adam Petty’s death) can turn into something so incredible like Victory Junction,” said Kyle Petty’s father Richard. “After five years, it’s great to be back on the Kyle Petty Charity Ride to support Kyle and the camp – just in time for the 20th anniversary.” Communities along the route are encouraged to show support for the riders, meet Petty, and also contribute to the Charity Ride’s “Small Change. Big Impact.” program that benefits children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. In the past 10 years, more than 7,730 children with health issues that would typically prevent them from attending camp have attended Victory Junction at no cost to their families, thanks to the Kyle Petty Charity Ride. Since its inception by the Petty family in 2004 in honor of their late son Adam, the camp has served as the Ride’s primary beneficiary. The 2014 Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America is made possible by presenting sponsor Manheim, as well as Coca-Cola, Dodge, Pilot Flying J, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Racing Electronics, FLUIDYNE Racing Products, WinCraft Racing, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, the Petty Family Foundation, and Original Bike Spirits ®. Manheim is a proud sponsor of the Kyle Petty Charity Ride and we fully support its cause,” said Nick Peluso, Manheim senior vice president of customer management. “It was amazing to see all of the children and families who came to support the Ride last year. We’re happy to be making positive changes in the lives of children with chronic illnesses.” To follow Kyle Petty and the riders live, visit www.facebook. com/KPCharityRide or on Twitter and Instagram, @KylePetty and @KPCharityRide. kick ass after party with all the trimmings. At the Rockin’ Hard Saloon, over 80 people ended up participating in the run, raising over $2,000 to help out Leeanne and her family. Jessica, Chelsea, and Sara were on-board for the entire trip and I would like to put out a big “Thank You” to everyone who actually rode, despite the freezing temperatures and bone curdling winds that prevailed throughout the day. Two days after the ride, Leeanne contacted me to say that she will have to undergo the radiation treatments, but will not have to endure chemo 5 days a week, starting in February. If you did not get a chance to join us, but would like to show your support, go to www.gofundme.com/fighting-for-Leeanne for more information. Keep fighting the good fight Leeanne, and know that we are all right here with you.

By: Everette “EZ” Short On Saturday, January 25th, under sub-freezing temperatures, frigid wind conditions, and abundant blue-sky sunshine, we all met up at Magoo’s Sports & Spirits, just off the #501 across the waterway bridge for the Leeanne Lovelace Benefit Poker Run. Last September, Leeanne was diagnosed with cancer and underwent surgery in December. Now, she faces therapy and treatment for other illnesses without any assistance from insurance. In January, her adopted biker family decided to organize a benefit to kick in for some much needed help. After a quick bit of card dealing, with the help of Leeanne’s beautiful daughters, we spun some dumb round table jokes featuring a crispy chicken bit breakfast. At 1pm, kickstands were up for a hop skip to Knuckleheads in Myrtle Beach. This place lives up to its name, but what do you call a covey of Knuckleheads, because that’s what we had both inside and outside of the bar. As a side note, Myrtle Beach proper hates us drinking in the parking lot in front of the Dollar General, but no one seemed to care. Soon enough, it was back in the saddle for some more bone gripping cold to find the karaoke haven that is Pop’s Place. We spent a little yukfest of drawing cards, while we threw back a few coldies with The Roughnecks MC and the Combat Vets Association, before heading to JC Childers’s world famous City Line Saloon to rest a spell. The entertainment provided by Karen doing the butt shake dance on top of the bar was much appreciated, but the setting winter sun soon told us that it was time to move south to Kelly’s Rockin’ Hard Saloon. Once there, we were met with a lot more friends for a full on power punch of food, drinks, and good times in the inlet for a

Spokes & Jokes

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! At our house we call it “pickin” and it is symbolic of your acceptance in the group. We live in the United States Of The Offended, so get over it!!

John O’Neil hoisted his beer and said, “Here’s to spending the rest of me life between the legs of me wife!” That won him the top prize at the pub for the best toast of the night! He went home and told his wife, Mary, “I won the prize for the best toast of the night.” She said, “Aye, did ye now. And what was your toast?” John said, “Here’s to spending the rest of me life, sitting in church beside me wife.” “Oh, that is very nice indeed, John!” Mary said. The next day, Mary ran into one of John’s drinking buddies on the street corner. The man chuckled leeringly and said, “John won the prize the other night at the pub with a toast about you, Mary.” She said, “Aye, he told me, and I was a bit surprised myself. You know, he’s only been in there twice in the last four years. “Once I had to pull him by the ears to make him come, and the other time he fell asleep”.

was a heavily armed insurgent”. We saw each other and both took cover in the ditches along the road. I yelled to him that Saddam Hussein was a miserable, low life scumbag who got what he deserved. And he yelled back that Barack Obama is a lying, goodfor-nothing, left wing, Communist who isn’t even an American.” So I said that the late Osama Bin Laden always dressed and acted like a frigid, mean-spirited lesbian! He retaliated by yelling, “Oh yeah? Well, so does Hillary Clinton!” and, there we were, in the middle of the road, shaking hands, when a truck hit us.”

laughs and says, “What kind of kittens are they?” “Democrats,” the child says. “Oh, that’s cute,” Al Gore says and he runs off. A couple of days later, Al Gore is running with his buddy Bill Clinton and he spies the same boy with his box just ahead. Al says to Bill, “You gotta check this out,” and they both jog over to the boy with the box. Al says, “Look in the box Bill, isn’t that cute? Look at those little kittens. Hey, kid, tell my friend Bill what kind of kittens they are.” The boy replies, “They’re Republicans.” “Whoa!” Al says, “I came by here the other day and you said they were Democrats. What’s up?” “Well,” the kid says, “That was before their eyes were open.”

A man received the following text from his neighbor:

I am so sorry Bob. I’ve been riddled with guilt and I have to confess. I have been tapping your wife, day and night when you’re not around. In fact, more than you. I’m not getting any at home, but that’s no excuse. I can no longer live with the guilt and I hope you will accept my sincerest apology with my promise that it won’t happen again.
The man, anguished and betrayed, went into his bedroom, grabbed his gun, and without a word, shot his wife and killed her.

A few moments later, a second text came in:

Damn autocorrect. I meant ‘Wi-Fi’, not ‘wife’. ObamaCare: To insure the uninsured, first we make the insured uninsured. Then we make the formerly insured pay more to become re-insured to insure the uninsured for free. A Marine squad was marching north of Fallujah when they came upon an Iraqi insurgent who was badly injured and unconscious. On the opposite side of the road was an American Marine in a similar but less serious state. The Marine was conscious and alert and as first aid was given to both men, the squad leader asked the injured Marine what had happened. The Marine reported, “I was heavily armed and walking north along the highway here, and coming south

When I was young, I decided to go to medical school. At the entrance exam, we were asked to rearrange the letters: PNEIS, and form the name of an important human body part which is most useful when erect. Those who answered SPINE are doctors today, while the rest are on Facebook.

Just got off the phone with a friend who lives in Saskatchewan. She said that since early this morning the snow has been nearly waist high and is still falling. The temperature is -32º and the north wind is increasing to near gale force. Wind chill is -59º. Her husband has done nothing but look through the kitchen window and just stares. She says that if it gets much worse, she may have to let the drunken bastard in. Ole and Lena moved back home to Wisconsin from Arizona. Lena had a wooden leg, and to insure it in Arizona was $2,000 a year. When they arrived in Wisconsin, Ole and Lena went to Sven’s Insurance agency to see how much it would cost to insure Lena’s wooden leg. Sven looked it up on his computer and said, “$39.” Ole was shocked and asked why it was so cheap in Wisconsin to insure, because it cost him $2,000 in Arizona. Sven turned his computer screen to the couple and showed them: Wisconsin Fire Insurance Company, says: “Any wooden structure, with a sprinkler system over it, is $39.” Al Gore is out jogging one morning, notices a little boy on the corner with a box. Curious, he runs over to the child and says, “What’s in the box, kid?” The little boy says, “Kittens, they’re brand new kittens.” Al Gore

I recall my first time with a condom. I was 14. I went in to buy a packet of condoms at a nearby pharmacy. In those days it took a lot of guts to go in a store and ask for that kind of item because everyone in town knew me and there was no doubt the young lady (I think her name was Nola) knew what they were for. She was working as an assistant behind the counter, and she could see that I was really embarrassed by the whole procedure. She handed me the package and asked if I knew how to wear one. I honestly answered, “No, not really.” So she unwrapped the package, took one out and slipped it over her thumb. She cautioned me to make sure it was on tight and secure. I apparently still looked confused. So, she looked all around the store to see if it were empty. It was. “Just a minute,” she said, and walked me into the back room, unbuttoned her blouse and removed it. She unhooked her bra and laid it aside. “Do these excite you?” She asked. Well, I was so dumbstruck that all I could do was stand there with my mouth open and nod my head. She then said it was time to slip the condom on. As I was slipping it on, she dropped her skirt, removed her panties and lay down on a desk. “Well, come on”, she said, “We don’t have much time.” So I climbed on her. It was so wonderful that, unfortunately, I could no longer hold back and KAPOW, I was done within a few moments. She looked at me with a bit of a frown. “Did you put that condom on?” she asked. I said, “Sure did,” and held up my thumb to show her. Then she beat the crap out of me.

Old Wounds

Greetings brothers and sisters, I’d like to share something with you all about a topic most of us have dealt with; old wounds. Now, I’m sure we all have stories to tell of some old wounds and some battle scars to show! But this is a different kind of wound. They are wounds from past hurts that you can’t physically see. Maybe your wound is old and you’re angry and bitter. Maybe your wound is fresh and you’re hurting and broken inside. Well, if the truth were told, we have all, every one of us, dealt with these types of wounds. Broken hearts from relationships, physical and or sexual abuse as a child, and betrayal from friends, even losing someone you love to death before you felt it was their time, a child or sibling, for example. All these hurts cause us to have wounds and they affect the way we live our daily lives. Now its time to ask yourself how do I deal with these wounds? Did we allow our hurt to turn to hate? Did those scars

turn to bitterness? If so, think about this. Is it working for you? Does that hate, anger, hurt, or bitterness make things better? Does it make you a better person to carry around that heavy load of grief? Well, I say no! It’s time to let go! It will eat you up like cancer and destroy your life and you will miss out on all God has for you. I’m asking you to pray today asking God to take away all the hurt and pain and anger and heal your wounded mind and heart and give you a refreshing flow of love to share with everyone! You have been down long enough. You have carried that baggage long enough. Let go today, pray the biker’s prayer on this page, mean it in your heart, and let God set you free! Love and Prayers, Robin St. John HLF
