hen May arrives in the Carolinas, we know for sure that we are out of the woods as far as winter weather goes. Have you ridden in your shirtsleeves, yet? I have just to be able to say that I did. It also means that everyone has awakened from that winter slumber and rides and events are popping up like spring flowers. Check out The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar if you think I am kidding. If you can find a better events listing anywhere, e-mail me and let me know. I am not holding my breath! We work very hard, with the help of many readers, to make The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar top notch. It is our goal to let our readers know where to go to have a good time or help out a good cause. If your event was not listed, I am sorry, but it doesn’t have to happen again. Our Cruisin’ Calendar is a free service for benefits, charities, non-profits, clubs, and advertisers. So, please, post your events at FullThrottleMagazine.com or e-mail them to us. WildThing and I have already been to several events and there are more on the horizon. There are many events large and small to attend. The idea is to get out there and ride. When you ride to an event, the adventure begins when you get on the bike and head out on the highway. Granted, for various reasons, it doesn’t always work out that way, but that is the way I prefer it. Some weekends there are local day rides that only cost the price of a meal and a tank or two of fuel. I really like them. I also like just riding new roads that I have never been on. You know, that road you always wondered where it went. With no particular destination in mind, the door opens for unlimited adventure. That day trip may even turn into an overnighter at a romantic bed & breakfast. If you are open to adventure, it will find you. Just letting go and wandering seems to be one of the hardest things for us to do. It is one hundred and eighty degrees from our normally scheduled life. But it is what attracted you to motorcycling, so this month commit to adventure on your bike. It doesn’t have to be dangerous to be intriguing, but you must initiate it. It is out there. Now go grab some adventure and watch it become a fond memory. Live life FULL THROTTLE! You only get one chance.

By: Caroline This year’s ride was held on April 11th, an absolutely gorgeous day to ride! 108 bikes and riders registered at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson, to support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). Meredy Swafford, Chairman of the NC Chapter, worked hard to make this year’s ride enjoyable, safe, and fun! All the words used to describe this ride are in stark contrast to the reality. In the United States someone dies by suicide every 12.8 minutes. In 2012 the VA reported that an average of 22 Veteran suicides occur daily. The goal of the AFSP is to bring awareness as well as viable help to victims and their families. You can find out about local chapters and get immediate help on their website www.afsp.org. They can also be found on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Don’t forget that on October 24, 2015 there will be an Out Of The Darkness Walk at Triad Park, which is another event to support the same cause. After the ride, we met back at Smokin’ for some great chicken stew and to also hear the results of the poker hands. Vicki Porter and her little dog, Mr. Butters won $25 for the worst hand. Vicki, by the way, is from Michigan and spends the winter with her cousin in Kernersville. Not to be outdone, Mary Beth Hughes came all the way from Tallulah Falls, Georgia, just for the ride! The best hand prize of $75 went to Carla Young, who won the worst hand last year. The total amount raised for this one day was $2,074, just shy of Meredith’s goal of $3,000. Online donations can be made at http://afsp.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.event&eventl. I hope that you will consider supporting this great cause and help exceed the $3000 goal.

41st Charlotte CBA Spring Swap Meet & Bike Show
By: WildThing & Rhonda Isaac, Charlotte CBA The Charlotte Chapter of Concerned Bikers Association (CBA) has been hosting semi -annual swap meets for quite a few years as the ‘41st’ signifies. So, you can believe they have their procedures down pat. Weather is usually not a huge factor – if it is raining on Saturday, everyone comes in the cage, same for Sunday. Hey, they have a drawing each day to give away a $500 gift certificate! What is astounding is the quantity and variety of items offered by the vendors and individuals: motorcycle parts, parts of motorcycles, whole motorcycles, and vintage parts and bikes, and even a fire truck. It is a picker’s paradise. OEM TIRES, COMPUTER BALANCING, Several vendors have OIL, PLUGS, FILTERS, STARTERS, new or gently REGULATORS, GASKETS & FILTERS used chrome accessories, 309 East 2nd St. If You Need It We jewelry, t-shirts, Will Get It! white tents outside and inside in the main venue that also held the stage, bar, and food court. There was something for everyone. There were attorneys on hand were helping bikers with their judicial worries, the Billy Graham Library was promoting Bikers With Boxes charity event, and several Christian motorcycle groups were offering tracts, small Bibles and information along with the CBA Chapter booths offering information on the organization that hosts the show and fights for bikers’ rights in Raleigh. Outside, there was a large area cordoned off for the professional stunt riders’ performance, The Anti Team. They put on quite an interesting show full of stoppies, burnouts, and flames! Inside, the entertainment consisted of several live bands that played an array of popular and southern rock music. The building on the end housed the bike show. Upon entering, the large display of trophies was right in front. There was a notice that folks could vote for the Peoples’ Choice by placing dollars in the buckets beside each bike then the monies collected would go to charity. We didn’t stay for the trophy presentation, but the winners are: Modified: 1st Place - Ian Hoffner. Street Custom: 1st Place - Roger Stevens. Radical: 1st Place - Bill Howes. Competition: 1st Place - David Herndon. Bobber: 1st Place - Chuck Hamrick. Antique: 1st Place - Ian Hoffner. 3-Wheel: 1st Place - David Morrell, 2nd Place - Rick Nail. Dresser: 1st Place - John Matthews. Stock: 1st Place - Bob Cunningham Exotic: 1st Place - Gareth Nixon. Best Display: Bob Cunningham People’s Choice: David Herndon. I would recommend you come and see for yourself. One of the best parts of the Charlotte CBA Swap Meet is the people who attend. It turns out to be a reunion of all your friends and riding buddies! There will be another swap meet in the fall, so watch for it in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine.

Thunder In Salisbury By: Mark (Stretch) Carlyle On April 11th, The Carolinas Full Throttle Magazine had the opportunity to host the Grand Opening party at Iron Station Thunder in Salisbury, NC. The weather was great as the temps were in the mid 70’s. It was a perfect day to ride and around 200 people come out to have a good time. With the band Red Barcetta rocking the parking lot, the cold beer, wings, and BBQ went fast. During the day many people toured the shop and met all the owners from Iron Station Thunder’s 3 shops. During the band breaks we held raffles for different items like straps and cleaning supplies provided by IST. We gave away T-shirts, koozies, and shot glasses provided by The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. Iron Station Thunder had about 40 bikes on the showroom floor that day. Creekside Finance was on site for any financing needs. I am pleased to say they sold 4 bikes and a ton of accessories. If you get the chance, stop in and talk with Jake, the manager, and just check out the shop. Iron Station Thunder has close to $500,000 in inventory in their 3 locations. If they don’t have what you’re looking for, they will find it for you. Here’s a list of the winners that day; Tie downs went to Paul Dix. Sheep skin soft ties to Rolane Pierce. Tee shirts went to Harlon Freeman, Kim Waddell, Sonia Nevel, Gina Sgarlata, Joe High, and Jeff. Shot glasses went to Chad Hammer and Lisa Peters. During the show I was told of a birthday, so I wanted to embarrass him by calling him up on stage. I called up “Tater”, but he wanted no part of it. We convinced him to come up on stage and gave him a big birthday salute and some Full Throttle gear to take home with him. I had the chance to sit down with the mastermind behind the shops, Bryan McClure. Bryan started riding when he was

very young. He and his brother got into racing cars early on. He then moved up to the big time in the ARCA series helping his brother, Jeff Mclure. Bryan then moved on to driving transporter for Michael Waltrip Racing. In 2005 he started working on Pan Heads and decided it was time to open a shop of his own. Since then he has grown to 3 shops and planning on opening a few more. In 2013 I introduced him to a Bike Builders invitational for Florida’s Full Throttle Magazine. He built his first complete bike, Rusty, an all-metal road glide. He walked away with 4th Place over all. This year, he is building a street glide. A one of a kind, never been done before build. It is solid chrome through out and he has a gunsmith to engrave the bike by hand. The motor specs we can’t reveal at this time, but trust me when I say you’ll need to strap yourself to it to stay on it! He tells me they have named this build Taz and it’s 10x harder to build than Rusty was. Take a ride and check out the guys at 124 E. Water Street Lincolnton, NC, 1093 Albright Rd, Rock Hill, SC, or 6363 S. Main Street in Salisbury, NC. Tell them Stretch sent you!

9th Annual Easter Basket Ride By: Scott Misner On March 28th, a very special group of Easter bunnies paid an early visit to youngsters at the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford, N.C. More than 100 riders from Raleigh H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) and Ray Price Harley-Davidson took to the streets during the 9th Annual Ray Price Easter Basket Ride. Bikers delivered Easter baskets to youth at the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, along with a $1,200 donation. “We’re always excited to ride to Oxford and are honored to partner with the Masonic Home for Children again this year,” said Kris Weiss, Marketing Director at Ray Price Harley-Davidson. “We enjoy bringing the kids a unique Easter experience,” said Weiss. “Everybody loves to watch their faces light up as we ride in decked out in leather and pastels with baskets full of treats in tow.” This was the second year in a row that the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford received a visit from area motorcycle riders. Philanthropy is a big part of the bikers’ mission as riders from Ray Price and Raleigh H.O.G. participate in charity rides and fundraisers nearly every weekend. The Easter Basket Ride is extra special and has been taking place for nearly a decade. Throughout February and March,
Over 100 bikers from Ray Price H-D and Raleigh H.O.G. participated in the Easter Basket Ride to Masonic Home for Children in Oxford, N.C. members of Raleigh H.O.G. collected donations at Ray Price Harley-Davidson and began assembling Easter baskets so every child would have a special surprise.

The Michele Messer Poker Run Benefit
By: Everette “EZ” Short On Sunday, April 12th, our community at the beach got an opportunity to give back to one of our own, when we left the rocking chairs behind in Murrells Inlet to put the kickstands up at noon on the Michele Messer Poker Run Benefit. Recently, Michele was attacked and brutally beaten by her ex-boyfriend, who bit her nose off and tried to murder her. Now, she is going through reconstructive surgery, so she needed our help to get her and her kids back on their feet. After a blistering bacon, eggs and biscuits breakfast, everyone headed south to The Island Bar in Pawley’s Island, where Anthony, the owner, had arranged for great live acoustic entertainment from Rickey Lee and Phillip Whittaker of 12 Gauge. They provided hot dogs and fresh chips to munch on, as we watched Skip overcome his shyness by guzzling 4 bottles of some clear adult beverage at the same time on stage. Now that’s a floorshow. Soon enough, it was time to head up the beach to a great little venue called The Bar in Garden City. When people ask you where you are and you tell them “The Bar”, it always draws you into an Abbot and Costello skit of “Who’s on First?” Even though the crowd overwhelmed the ladies behind the bar, they kept up, kept their cool, and kept smiling. I have to give them a hand for not just throwing up their hands and running out to the beach screaming. After some pretzels and suds, we headed up to Soccastee for my first actual visit to The 707 Social Club, which was quickly overrun by the apparently unexpected horde of bikers that descended upon them. I have to say the place was nice inside. We were packed butt to nut and the wait staff didn’t lose their tempers with us, even when one of our troop asked if they would like him to do a burn out inside their establishment. I guess he thought that the only thing missing was a streak of freshly laid rubber across their floor. With the sun low in the sky, the bristly wind rising, and the air chillin’, we took off north to Dog House Donny’s Saloon where six fresh Boston Butts and all the fixin’s
were waiting. I have to tell you that this was a big prize run. There were at least $200 worth of goodies and prizes raffled off for at each one of the fantastic bars we perched in. At the end of the run, there were only 45 bikes registered, but I swear there were at least 200 people milling around in the bar for all the great free food and some rockin’ music from That’s Cool and Stuff. The band featured the husband and wife team Terri and Predice Hendricks, who were major workers behind the scenes on this ride. By the time The Sick Stooges stormed the stage around sundown, the crowd was at full boogie strength, even though the run had been going on for over ten hours. What can I say, but love was in the air, especially when The Dogfather, himself, was along for the entire ride with a host of animated characters that would shame the island of misfit toys. In the end, we raised over $2000 for Michele and her kids, with no attitudes, incidents, or accidents. All the great help along the way deserve a great big “Thank You” and a honkin’ “Wow” to the tens. It sure is great to see people come together to help one of their own. Go check out all the pictures from the day at www.FullThrottleMagazine.com and next time you see something on our Cruisin’ Calendar, get in the mix and you might just show up in the magazine.

11th Annual CBA Central District Spoker Run
By: Shannon RIghts Every year for the last 11 years the Central District Chapters of Concerned Biker’s Association have come together to celebrate the end of winter and the beginning of riding season with a “Spoker Run”. We call it a “spoker” run because we gather together from all areas of central North Carolina ending in one spot in the middle, kind of like the spokes on a wheel. Saturday, April 11th could not have had more perfect weather for the event. Each year a different chapter in the Central District is given the opportunity to host the event; this year North Central Chapter had the honor. Chapters represented at this year’s event were Alamance County, Cabarrus/Rowan, Charlotte, Chatham County, Davidson County, North Central, Randolph, and Triad. Each chapter began the ride in their home area riding and gathering other chapters along the way. Alamance began at Belmont Citgo. Cabarrus/Rowan began in China Grove. Charlotte began in Concord after picking up bikers in Ballentyne. Chatham County started from Pittsboro. Randolph County at the American Classic Museum in Asheboro then picked up Davidson and Triad in Lexington. North Central Chapter started out from Willie’s Bar in Winston Salem. We picked everyone up at the Ole Watering Hole in Wallburg before heading out again with the final stop at Dance Hall Daze in Kernersville, NC. Once at Dance Hall Daze we spent time hanging out with each other before partaking of a southern feast of fried chicken,

tater wedges, baked beans, and rolls. Desserts were plentiful and every taste could be satisfied with the wide variety of selections. Each chapter held their own poker draws during the ride with the Central District awarding plaques for Best Hand in each group. Charlotte offered an added incentive of $100 for their Best Hand winner. North Central added a $25 Gift Card to Applebee’s for their Best Hand winner and a consolation prize to their Worst Hand winner. Winners for each chapter were: Alamance - President Dave Blum, Cabarrus/Rowan - Secretary Kristie Morris, Charlotte - Carol Wiggins, Chatham - Cat Mohan, Davidson - Sue Everhart, North Central - Rob Alpaugh Jr. (Best & Worst Hands), Randolph - Sergeant at Arms Gene Robertson and Triad - Vice President Roger Boger. North Central Chapter won Most Supported Chapter Award. There is a $500 grand prize raffle each year that anyone who rides has the chance to win! This year the prize went to North Central Chapter member Sergeant at Arms, Kim Weiss. Kim and her husband, Master Sergeant at Arms, Keith, had said that if they won anything they were going to pay it forward. Kim donated the $500 to help our friend who is undergoing chemo treatments for cancer. Mr. Ken Brooks won the 50/50, graciously donated $100 of the prize back to North Central Chapter! North Central Chapter would like to thank Willie’s Bar, Winston Salem, Ole Watering Hole, Wallburg and Dance Hall Daze, Kernersville for their continuous support of Bikers! Thank you to Liz Sorrell at McGrath Law Firm and A1 Services for sponsoring the food for the event. The money raised each year during the Spoker Run helps to finance the Central District’s legislative activities in Raleigh. The NC Concerned Bikers Association works to protect Biker’s rights in Raleigh and Washington, DC. If you are interested in joining the fight to protect bikers’ rights, visit our website: www.cba-abatenc.org to find a chapter near you. There are chapters throughout North Carolina and you are welcome to attend any meeting. North Central Chapter meets at Salty Bay Restaurant, 1075 N. Main St. Walnut Cove, NC every 2nd Tuesday at 7pm. Come at 6pm if you want to eat supper with us.

By: Pussikat Harley-Davidson Footwear makes riding, after-riding, and street wear-specific styles featuring the unmistakable HarleyDavidson attitude and performance. The “Gabby” is part of Harley-Davidson Footwear’s after-riding/lifestyle collection and are my new favorite boots! I am a jeans and boots kinda girl. If I’m not in these boots I’m bare footed, they are that comfortable! I have worn them every day since I got them and I just love them. No matter work or play these boots are great everywhere. The Gabby boots are hardworking, cute, comfy and bad to the bone (the steel toe adds some kick too!). The only thing I don’t like about these boots is having to take them off at night. The durable all leather upper also makes it easy to go from work to play. With the 7 eye laces you can cinch them up tight for working in the yard or loosen them up for dancing at your favorite concert. The rubber outsole with Goodyear construction makes for good traction ensuring that you’re steady on your feet in all situations. I bet your wishing you had a pair. Well that’s easy. Visit your local Harley-Davidson Dealership’s apparel section or go to Harley-DavidsonFootwear.com. So, when the new shoe itch hits ya, look for Harley-Davidson Footwear’s Gabby. Go get your pair today; you’ll be glad you did.

By: Everette “EZ” Short On Saturday, March 28th, Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Chapter 34-3 met up to kick off the first real ride of the year (that didn’t include freezing rain) with The 2015 Freedom Fidos Charity Run. The day long event started at the new and improved Rockin’ Hard Saloon at 3140 Kings Highway in Murrells Inlet, with Matt Burgess, the lead trainer from FREEDOM FIDOS, playing ball with one of the no-fee service dogs in the parking lot. Although this was a working dog, he’s also a gorgeous German Shepard and a blast to watch jump six feet off the ground to catch a ball. While those just a few hundred miles north of us were still digging out from under a blanket of snow, it was all sunshine and smiles across the miles for the day, when kickstands went up at noon. Down the road, at Barnacle Bills, the party continued with CVMA Chapter 34-4 adding their numbers to the mix to make a 60 something bike ride. Inside the bar, Gauge and Carolyn were fast to serve up the breakfast of champions with Bloody Mary cocktails and cold beers for the masses. Outside, it was a great day on the beach, but inside I met up with Bob Rice (aka C.O.B) and Peanut, a gorgeous little faun colored Chihuahua that rides with him on the back of his motorcycle. Peanut is tiny, but ferocious on a barstool. One thing that I can tell
you is that if you’ve never had the grub at Barnacle Bills, you need to stop in for their “Stuffed Chicken” and other great specials from their magical chef JC. Next it was off to the Island Bar and Grill in Surfside, before heading down to Buzz’s Roost in Georgetown. Finally, the crowd headed back to where it all began at The Rockin’ Hard Saloon for more good fun, friends, games, food, music, and prizes. All in all, The CVMA raised $635 for Freedom Fidos, with the best hand, a $100.00 cash prize, going to Silent Mike of Chapter 34-4 from Charleston. The worst hand ($20.00) went to Bob (C.O.B.) Rice. I personally think that Peanut actually menaced everyone, until Bob was declared a winner. Freedom Fidos is a wonderful idea that was founded by Mr. Matt Burgess. This is a non-profit (501c3) organization, which provides no-fee service dogs to disabled veterans and disadvantaged children. As such, they can always use your help and donations throughout the year. If you would like more information about this outstanding cause, go to www.freedomfidos.org or on Facebook, or contact a local member of the CVMA for this and other great veteran runs, as well as causes to get behind. If you’re in the area for Memorial Day this year, the CVMA is having several events including a veteran’s march and a dedication at Warbird Park in the entrance to Market Commons in Myrtle Beach. Come when you can, do what you can, and tell them that you read about it in The Carolina’s Full Throttle Magazine.

Patch’s Pub Grand Opening By: Meredith W Here in Wilmington, NC, on March 28th, the newest home for bikers and bar goers opened its doors to the public at Noon. Patch’s Pub located at 6213-D Market Street held their Grand Opening with live music by Double Barrel, delicious brisket, and vendor tents. There was plenty of socializing between the owners of Patch’s Pub and the public where everyone was made to feel “right at home.” The newly renovated bar has a large stage for live music which also plays a role in putting those who love to sing in the spotlight during Karaoke. Even if you’re not into singing in front of a crowd you just might find yourself doing so with this Pub’s drink specials. They don’t just have daily drink specials; they have everyday specials, such as $2 beers and $3 shots Monday - Sunday. Not into Karaoke or sitting at the bar? You can play darts, pool, or sit outside and socialize while you check out the variety of bikes parked right up front. I went back later in the day to check out the evening atmosphere and it was jam packed full. Kenny Reeves & TRAINWRECK were rocking
the crowd and had people dancing on the dance floor in front of the stage. I have no doubts that Patch’s Pub will be home to a steady crowd and I’m sure it will make it on the map as the place to stop if you’re cruisin’ down to Wilmington and are thirsty for a good time. Visit Facebook Patch’s Pub and make this your next stop as your cruising Wilmington or passing through!

The 25th Annual Bunny Run Breaks Records
By: Everette “EZ” Short Just try to imagine Gomez Adams in a full body white bunny suit, chomping a cigar, riding an undersized, orange Harley-Davidson with over 400 maniacs on motorcycles chasing him down the road on Easter Sunday, with no idea where the next stop is. And did I mention that he had a basket of colored eggs strapped to the back of the bike? Got it? If not, it’s OK, because you really had to be there for The 25th Annual Dick Martin Bunny Run that was held on April 5th of this year to get it at all. Meeting up at Dog House Donny’s Saloon, there was free breakfast being served and you know that’s everyone’s favorite thing to eat, so the numbers were astounding from the beginning. The parking lot and every other parking lot in a 3-mile radius was full by the time it was KSU at noon. With the wabbit on the run, we made our way through side streets, like an Easter parade on steroids, past the airport, across the bridge, and out through Fantasy Harbour to The Boathouse Waterway Bar and Grill. If you haven’t been there, then you have to go to their Sunday/Funday music festivals on the grass out back of the restaurant. The ride was splendifferous and the weather was perfect! We didn’t stay long, but I did see the wabbit with his wonderful wife, children, and grandchildren frolicking on the grassy knoll. Before long, there was the sound of a bullhorn siren and everyone was on the road with a stogie smoking, long eared, mad man leading the way through Carolina Forrest to wind up at Longbeard’s Bar n Grill. The grassy side of the roadway leading into this hunting lodge of adult fun was lined with bikes, babes, local celebrities, and trikes, with a full mix of animated characters lining the inner and outer facility to share more lunacy than you can shake a broken stick at. Then we were off to catch the wabbit on Highway #31. In a five mile long parade of custom and factory direct motorcycles, trikes and wheeled thingymajigs that defy a name, we hauled ass and held up traffic with gawking waves from the people put in check on every major thoroughfare as we went by. It is beyond awesome to explain the feeling of being on the road, at full speed, with bikes as far as you can see in all directions. When we rolled down the #501 all the way to Barnacle Bill’s Rum and Raw Bar in the heart of Myrtle Beach proper, it was a full on adult version of a decidedly twisted Easter Parade. Guage and his crew served up amazing free food and the drinks flowed like mountain fresh waters of wonderment. Amazingly, the city held back the local militia, sending a lone bicycle cop to menace us with a wandering eye. It seemed like an instant, before the sound of the siren told us all to mount up to ride south for a quick stay at The Cityline Saloon where the legend gets kinda hazy as JC Childers and his gorgeous minions were amazingly on time for a crowd so thick and loud. The ride ended up at SBB and lasted far into Mon-
day morning with people calling for rides, as they had no idea where we had come from or gone to. In the end, no money was raised and no one was healed of any life threatening ailments, but there were no incidents, accidents, or attitudes. A big hats off to everyone, including the Bunny, Dick Martin, for the weirdest, wildest, and best ride of the year for the last quarter of a century.

2015 Legends Of The SC Biker Hall Of Fame
By: Everette “EZ” Short On Saturday, March 21st, we were all honored to watch as giants from the way back machine walked among us at Suck, Bang, Blow, in Murrells Inlet, for the 2nd Annual South Carolina Biker Hall Of Fame 2015 induction ceremony. Bill Barber, who was standing tall on stage to host the best damn award show this side of Vegas, unfolded the pages of history throughout the evening, with the legendary Emmitt Jones by his side, to bring in the newest members in the order of the SCBHOF. First of all, I have to tell you that it was an honor and real slice of awesome to actually shake the hand of Pete Hill, legendary drag racing hero from Greenville, South Carolina. Pete has been a cornerstone of the SC motorcycle racing scene from the beginning. Even before he stepped up on stage to take his place among the stars, Pete Hill had a list of accomplishments a mile long. Even though he retired from racing back in 1984, Pete has been inducted into the National Motorcycle Hall Of Fame, the AMA Hall Of Fame, the Shuffletown
Drag Racing Hall Of Fame, the Farmington Dragway Hall Of Fame and the East Coast Drag Times Hall Of Fame. Pete was even honored as a “Demon of Speed” in 2005 at Sturgis during Bike Week and though he is larger than life, he is a very humble and incredibly quiet man in real life. Like most great men, he lets history speak for him and the applause from the audience was thunderous when he hit the stage. Next came one of the high points of the night, when the larger than life biker attorney and lobbyist, Mr. Tom McGrath from Surfside, SC, came to the stage with a rousing “Let’s give ‘em hell” speech that was full of vigor, piss, and vinegar. In case you didn’t know, Tom McGrath provided legal representation to 49 of us during the “helmet law” crackdown in a case that went all the way to the SC Supreme Court resulting in the overturn of the law as unconstitutional. With over 30 years of riding and defending riding causes in the Carolinas, Tom is definitely inspirational to listen to and I would love to have him for a personal interview since he is a quiet fireball of inspirational motivation to “fight the system”... and to win. Then, with a whimsical flourish of his big bushy mustache and a shifting glance across the crowd, it was time to honor
Myrtle’s very own incredibly animated character, Mr. Dickie Martin, who has been involved in KMA racing since the early 1980’s and has been responsible for holding The Bunny Run, which could easily be touted to be the best run of the year. We celebrated the 25th Bunny Run this Easter Sunday, April 5th with breakfast at Dog House Donny’s Saloon to commemorate the continuation of this grand tradition. Back in the day, you might remember Dickie being at B&M motorcycles in the heart of Myrtle Beach. Dickie is a local legend and his induction was long overdue. Dickie recently moved to his new headquarters where he continues to wrench, even to this day... I would be missing a big part of the night’s magic if I didn’t tell you that Joe Santana’s Kingfish played some strong tunes from long before sundown, until late into the night. Joe is an amazing guitarist who is always in tune, uncannily on time, and can bring the crowd from a quiet simmer to a dancing frenzy whenever he storms the stage to turn on the charms for a rockin’ celebration. The wave of sound that is Kingfish actually comes out of three truly talented men, who can sooth a soul with some memory stirring tunes. These guys hail from a time when musicians still played the hell out of their instruments, with curving blues notes, accompanied by a grooving bass that could churn butter and a drummer that makes women get off their sitting spots to take a spin with their honeys. Soon enough, it was time to honor our one of a kind, big hearted spiritual leader and world renowned traveling philanthropist, Mr. Tom “Pyro” Lyons, from Lugoff, SC. Tom is a man who is on fire in his service to the Lord and is on a mission to feed the homeless and care for the elderly with a motorcycle ministry that includes rides to raise awareness of biker rights and to support local charities. Pastor Lyons is a lifetime member of ABATE and witnesses to those who need it, regardless of who they are, whether they ride or not, even if they are incarcerated. On a sad note, the final inductee was saved for the memory of our own Patriot Guard Leader, Mr. Bill Stewart from Murrells Inlet, SC. Bill left us recently, but was fondly remembered and honored posthumously for his service to returning

veterans and fallen soldiers over the years. Bill, as local the P.G.R. Ride Captain, organized a band of riders into heartfelt motorcycle escorts for funerals, memorials, and veterans returning home. Bill enjoyed traveling the country to show our appreciation for and honor veteran bikers and their families. He was also a big participating force in the local American Legion and Moose Riders. Bill, you may be gone, but you will never be forgotten. Be sure to drop into SBB next time you come to Myrtle Beach, where you can look up on the wall to see real life, legendary heroes who rode, and still ride, to pave the way for those of us who are lucky enough to enjoy the freedoms that can only come on a steel horse. I would like to thank everyone who participated, to all those little gremlins who helped set the stage, both before, during, and after, those thankless nymphs who served the crowd with lavish efficiency, and all the behind the scenes people who helped to pull off this splendiferous affair without a hitch. If you have someone you would like to nominate for next year’s SC Biker Hall Of Fame, download the SCBHOF nomination form from www.suckbangblow.com or get one from your bartender while you’re there. And whatever you do, be sure to tell ‘em that you read about it in The Carolinas Full Throttle Magazine. The 5th Annual Biker’s Bluegrass Festival By: Everette “EZ” Short You can tell that spring has sprung when you find yourself singing, dancing, and clapping along at The Biker’s Blue Grass Festival out back of the biggest bike shop on the beach. It was a gorgeous Sunday afternoon on March 29th, when Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson’s main store raised a tent in the back twenty for a major blue grass, foot stompin’ festival. It featured live music from Saw Grass, ALL THAT, and Alan Bibey & Common Ground. For the 5th great year in a row the air was positively swingin’ with the sunny sounds of twang, fiddle, and banjos all day. Then there was the clogging cadences of over 100 kids that had come with clicking toes and heels, dressed in colorful outfits, and tutus that brought big smiles on the faces of everyone they did their energizer bunny dances for. This year’s festival was held to benefit WARM (Waccamaw Animal Rescue Mission) and there were furry little, four legged, tail wagging, balls of love everywhere you looked. I found this extremely entertaining, since I genuinely like dogs more than I like most people. It was a welcome sight to see so many people outdoors dancing, if not toe tapping, clapping and singing. It seemed as if they were just glad to be there to enjoy the wonderful weather and fresh air that brings us to the beach year after year. All day long, I watched people coming in, smiling wide as they rode in from all over South, as well as North Carolina, from as far away as the upper east coast and mid-west and even tourists showed up from outside the US. After such a long, wet and cold stretch of winter as we have had this year, it was just what the doctor ordered for every soul that made the journey. Of course there were vendors with clothes, doggy accessories, chewy treats, baskets of goodies and such, but what I want to tell you about is the tent that Rick Natali and his gorgeous cohorts were hosting to promote the Harley-Davidson Riding Academy. Even if you’re a seasoned rider, or if you’ve just decided to get your first two wheel steel pony, Rick offers a service that more people need to take advantage of. The HD Riding Academy offers a course with 25 hours of instruction provided by experts certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and Harley-Davidson to give you a top-notch experience both in the classroom, as well as on the blacktop in a controlled safe environment. On their unique practice course, you’ll learn new skills and you’ll get a discount on your insurance rates, as well. They also offer the opportunity to complete
your South Carolina DMV drivers test on-site on the same motorcycle and drivers course that you will learn to ride on, in a friendly, non-rushed atmosphere. Everything you will need to join the Academy is explained on the website www. myrtlebeachharley.com or call Rick at (843) 369-5555 for more information, as well as a schedule of classes and events. In the end, the event raised $4392 for this worthy cause and what biker doesn’t love a festival that includes free food, beer, dogs, smiling kids dancing to live country and blue grass music, with the fresh smell of new motorcycles wafting across you on a bright, warm day? Tell them you read about it in The Carolinas Full Throttle Magazine and be sure to check the Cruisin’ Calendar for even more great events coming this month.

The 3rd Annual NC Sandhills Bike Blessing By: Jody and Pam Shotwell The NC Sandhills Bike Blessing, hosted annually by Freedom Biker Church Fayetteville and held on the first Saturday in April, is always a great event. This year, it looked like the rain may hinder the event but mid-morning, before the event kicked off, the clouds parted and sun shone through producing a great day! The NC Sandhills Bike Blessing was established to pray for those in our community who ride. To pray for their safety as they ride and anything else that’s going on in their life. Two new venues were added this year, a pancake breakfast at the Vander Civic Center hosted by the FBCF C.L.U.T.C.H group which included pancakes, incredible sausage from Carroll’s IGA in Stedman, juice and coffee, and then afterwards, an eighty mile bike ride into Bladen County with Rolling Thunder leading the way back to the Bike Blessing. At 11 AM, JD Tew, Pastor of FBCF officially kicked off the Bike Blessing, which included some great vendors, excellent food, jammin’ music, and a lot of fun. There were over 30 vendors this year including Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson, Fayetteville Powersports, and Baker American Cycles all bringing their “Big Boy Toys”. D.J. Scott James provided the music and had the tunes flowing and going. The “free registration” included a Bike Blessing dog tag with Scripture (Psalm 145:18), a helmet sticker and a ticket for some great door prizes. Some of the bigger door prizes included a Harley-Davidson Fire Pit donated by Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson and a $300 gift certificate donated by Cherry Blossom Tattoo Studio and a $250 Visa Card from Freedom Biker Church Fayetteville. Also, a silent auction was held for two Kyle Petty “collector” leather jackets. The food was fabulous as FBCF’s Cooking Team prepared some fantastic Carolina style BBQ. Local vendor “R-Burger” had some tremendous burgers, hot dogs, and fresh cut fries! There were over 400 motorcycles and approximately one thousand people at this year’s event. Freedom Biker Church was well represented from their other locations in NC. The home office in Clayton, Freedom Hickory, Freedom Greensboro, and Freedom Monroe were all present this year. At 12:30 PM JD introduced LTC Terry Romine, Chaplain for the 1st Special Forces Command USASOC who led the Blessing for our Military and Veterans. Afterward, JD introduced Mike Beasley who was the founding Pastor of Freedom Biker Church in 2006 and Mike led everyone in the main Bike
Blessing. Individual Bike Blessings were held afterward by members of Freedom Biker Church Fayetteville. Before we realized it, the clock struck 2 PM and the Bike Blessing was over! J.D. thanked all the vendors, volunteers, and guests for making the day a great success. He said, “If you ride a motorcycle, this is your church, and I’m your Pastor” and the crowd went wild! Freedom Biker Church is indeed a great church with some great people. If you’re part of the motorcycling community, you should really check it out. You will not be disappointed! Start making plans now for next year. The 4th Annual NC Sandhills Bike Blessing will be held April 2, 2016. So, mark your calendar! As always, it will be a great event and we all need to be “Blessed!”

Durham H.O.G. 29th Annual Bike Show And Chili Cook Off
By: Kathy Johnson Needless to say, after 29 years Durham H.O.G Chapter 3382 has their Annual Bike Show And Chili Cook Off running as smooth as your ride. Yes, with out a doubt, they have a crowd every year. March 21st was not as warm as other years! Then again that 4-letter word “SNOW” was not a factor and the other one “RAIN” wasn’t either. We had a nice little ride in with some friends and pulling in the parking lot seeing people you haven’t seen in a bit getting out from their winter hibernation was nice. The set up of vendors was in a great order. I say that because it seems like it was the order you would like to stop at each of them. First buy your ticket to win the 2015 Super low, next a bite to eat, next roll some dice. There was something different at each stop and that’s what made it more appealing. For the first time ever, in all the years that I rolled the dice, they landed on the table and they spelled out HARLEY! I won some really nice swag from Rommel H-D and I was savoring the long awaited win of my dice roll. Mr. Cat was playing for the crowd and they are just a really great band to have for an event. Honestly, I know the focal point of the day is the bike give away, but for me it was the chili cook off. Why? Because, for years, when the announcement belts out over the crowd It’s like a pull string toy. It is repetitive saying Burlington HOG has won the cook off. Well, Not this year! Melanie Mosier from Durham HOG kicked it up a notch and won Peoples Choice award and took the coveted 1st Place trophy. Great job, Melanie! They also did a Judge’s Choice Award and Travis Hunt - Chatham Rabbits was their choice. It was nice to see other charitable organizations there. Carolina Boxer Rescue was on hand with some gorgeous dogs waiting for you to give them a chance at the life they deserve. Aidan’s Ride North Carolina was set up to screen newborns for ALD. Aidan’s Ride leaves out of Rommel H-D May 2nd at 1 o’clock. I hope to see you there! Zaxby’s from Durham was set up selling some food and donating proceeds from their sales to the Durham HOG Chapter for their charities. The list of vendors was long but enjoyable. It was quite a mix for people to choose from. They had Law Offices Of Gary Poole, Billy Bub’s BBQ Sauces and Dry Rub that was good stuff and Durham 81 with some new apparel.
If that didn’t blow the cobwebs out your wallet, there was still time to go in the dealership. Wow! Wall to wall “gotta have it” and as packed as it was they had staff to back it up. We have all been to events where you can’t get waited on because they are under staffed. This is never the case at Rommel H-D. I can tell you, aside from just the presence of the staff, their knowledge of product is impressive. Back outside, it was time to announce the trophy winners and this year it was best in class takes all. Every year, I always look for Bonnie Robbins and there she was in her lounge chair, sitting on pins and needles supporting her sons and hoping she hears their name called. Well, as you read on you will see that she was not disappointed. Her sons were victors once again. So we will start with HD Touring Stock w/Tour Pak: 1st Place - Roger Fowler. HD Touring Stock w/o Tour Pak: 1st Place - Jim Davis. FX & Dyna, Rubber Mount: 1st Place - Jason Starnes. FX Rigid Mount: 1st Place - Tom Tilley. FL Ridged Mount: 1st Place - Robby Lee Robbins. Modified Harley: 1st Place - Rick Denby. Sport Bike: 1st Place - Rodney Lee Robbins. Antique: 1st Place: Davis Mims. Other V- Twin: 1st Place: Albert LeHere. Factory Trike: 1st Place: Larry Prater. Best In Show went to Roger Fowler. Congratulations to all of you! Then they went to the drum with all the tickets with all of our names on them and started spinning it for one lucky winner. The lucky winner of the bike was James D. of Roxboro. I am sure that will make his riding season a whole lot better. Unfortunately none of the winners were in the crowd that day for the $300 and $150 gift certificates or the bike. I do need to say after watching the event that the Durham HOG Chapter worked hard and did a great job! I am sure next year the 30th Annual Durham H.O.G Chapter 3382 Bike Show And Chili Cook Off will be huge. I would think they will have some surprises for us. In the mean time, get out there and ride to Rommel H-D, 300 Muldee Street in Durham, NC. Check out Rommel H-D’s bike nights all summer long.

Pictures With The Easter Bunny By: Kathy Johnson If you were unaware, Rommel Harley-Davidson has something lined up just about every holiday. It’s always free and is family oriented for your kids or if you choose bring your dog or dogs! That is what Carole Byer and her husband Dan chose to do. On March 28th, Rommel H-D gave everyone the opportunity to have a free photograph with the Easter Bunny. So they showed up with their dogs, Bandit and June Bug, both dogs young at heart! The Byers had 2 more dogs and a cat at home that didn’t make the trip. Talking to Carole, I learned that all of her dogs were rescued, so I instantly thought she was the cat’s meow! As a matter of fact they were all rescues from Carolina Boxer Rescue. CBR was set up in Rommel H-D that afternoon and had a constant crowd at their table. They help abandoned and abused boxers in North and South Carolina. Even if you cannot have a dog for what ever reasons you still can help out. You can donate food, collars, leashes, transport, or foster. Their whole organization is volunteers. So, please give them a chance. You can find them at http://facebook.com/savetheboxers or www. CarolinaBoxerRescue.org. I think everyone has a bit of spare time they can volunteer for something. It seemed like most of the adults were being the kids that day and taking advantage of getting there pictures
taken with the Easter Bunny. But why grow up? Have fun and enjoy life. Then there were the few that used the bunny as an excuse to check out that ride they had been thinking about all winter long. Hey, what ever it takes! One thing for sure, it couldn’t be made easier for you roll out of Rommel H-D on a new ride.

Gunning For Gunner Benefit Chili Cook-Off By: Charles Holcombe AKA Uwharrie Charlie You couldn’t have asked for a better day for this event; not too hot, not too cold. This event could possibly be the largest crowd that I have ever seen at Stars And Bars Tavern in Salisbury, NC so far this year. This was a benefit Chili Cook-Off to help a brother battling Kidney Disease. I’m sure he has been in tougher battles so we all are hoping he whips the fire out of this disease, just like he has kicked butt in the past! For those that don’t know Gunner, you are missing out on a truly big-hearted man. With the show of support that poured out at the event proved that he is loved by many and has many brothers of the road. There were around nineteen chili competitors trying for the best and the hottest chili. The winners were Gunner for Hottest

and Jay Fowler for Best, who also made a handsome donation for the cause. Nub’s Outdoor Beer Shack was busy all day. I don’t know why it’s called Nub’s, he kind of overseas it while Laura runs it, with a really big Doberman! Just kidding Nub, you also get to spin the tunes every once in a while my brother and Mary Burton and Loni Starnes were handling the bar patrons rather well inside. Monkey Butt was doing, well, I’m not sure what he was doing but he was really enjoying himself. The place was packed inside and outside. I couldn’t have talked with everyone there in the amount of time allotted! Thanks to the Head Honcho at Stars And Bars, Lynn Burris, I was able to piece together the highlights of this event. Also thank you Loni Starnes Ashby and Patrick Sullivan for your valuable contribution of pix for this event. Patric Sullivan and DJ Bossman also provided the tunes outside! The 50/50 winner donated his half back to the fun raiser, much thanks and respect. Ray Potts was a vendor today along with Nancy Rutan Porter - AKA “Leggz”, was doing the sewing and makes some really great patches and bandannas. She made the memorial patches for my late wife and I am so thankful to her for that. They are good quality patches. Ginger Whisnant Brittain, who is loved by all, was able to join us today. There was a benefit fun run for her a few months ago, but she could not attend. If you want to know all of the story, ride or drive in to Stars And Bars Tavern at 723 Klumac Road in Salisbury, NC (I-85 Exit 75 NC 601/Jake Alexander Blvd.) and get to know the local folks there. They may be happy to share some party stories with you, or make you a part of the stories! Better yet, ride in to their events. They have advertisements in this here magazine every month with the latest info, and more going on there than can be listed! I, personally, am glad Gunner is a part of the folklore at Stars And Bars. He and the bar patrons are just good ole folks. Live bands most weekends, pool tournaments, drink specials, you name it, and you’ll find it at Stars And Bars. Don’t forget, camping is available with showers. Stars And Bars, owned by Tim Rogers, is always improving. Much thanks and respect for the folks that showed up for Gunning For Gunner Benefit Chili Cook-Off. We love ya, Bro! Pix and more info can be seen at www.FullThrottleMagazine.com. If you are in the neighborhood of Stars And Bars Tavern mention you read about it in this here rag and they may give you a free membership for a year! What do you have to lose?

By: Rose and Lloyd Sherrie Brannan started “The Homeless Neighbors Under The Bridge” in August 2014. The idea came from the 16 cents miniseries “Church Under The Bridge” Mainly through Facebook, Sherrie asked for volunteers to help feeding these people on Friday nights. They came from everywhere, Marc McKeraghan, Matt Roach, Stephanie Lee, Mark Hermanowski, and Kelly. The volunteers kept going every Friday night to feed hot meals, clothes, tents, and helping with as many needs as they could. This mission began with maybe 40 in 2014; it has grown to feeding approximately 160 every Friday night and Sunday afternoons. As the number grew they knew they needed more equipment and a trailer for storage Marc MacKeraghan went to some of his friends in the biker community; they began immediately to form a ride to raise the money that was much needed. On March 28th the 1st Annual Homeless Neighbors Under The Bridge Fund Run began at the VFW Post 9899, and with the assistance of Col. Rutledge and his other three deputies we had a very cold, but beautiful ride through the country to Morrow Mountain. The ride continued through more country crossing over the beautiful scenery of High Rock Lake. We ended at the American Legion Post #87 for great food, donated by several merchants in the area. Music was provided by Cornbread on the acoustic guitar. Later a great two-piece band called Mule Hide played. There was a silent auction, another auction. L.C. Beck won the 50/50 and he gave back to
the cause. Tickets had been sold for weeks before ride for a 50” HD TV. This was won by Marc MacKeraghan. The event was extremely cold, but the fact that we were achieving our goal brought warmth to each person’s heart. The mission is always in need of volunteers, all served food they buy out of their pockets. If you would like to serve or help in anyway or make a donation, please check out “Homeless Neighbors Under the Bridge “ on Facebook or contact Sherrie Brannon at 336-558-2227. Remember these people are families, children, veterans, and some that just took a wrong turn in life. There are so many to thank for their support, The VFW, The American Legion, Colonel Rutledge and the other Randolph County Deputies, all the people that donated for sponsorship on t-shirts, and every single volunteer that became involved, especially the people that spend their Friday nights and Sundays feeding and giving donations of clothes to these people. A very special “thank you” to all the bikers that worked so hard and came out on that cold day to participate. I know we all left with warm hearts.

NHRA 4-Wide At zMAX
Story and photo by Alan Dockery Ain’t nothing like it in professional drag racing and you have it right here in the Carolinas. I’m talking about when the National Hot Rod Association comes to town for the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway in Concord, NC. This is the only race on the NHRA circuit where they run four lanes instead of two. Friday was a rain out. Not enough rain to keep us from standing around the pits and catching up with racing buddies, but enough that they couldn’t go down the track. Saturday was pretty as a Carolina day can be and the racers showed us how much they loved it. The fans did, too, as every seat was sold out Saturday. With a new track surface and incredible air quality, the normally aspirated Pro Stock cars and motorcycles put on a great show in two rounds of Saturday qualifying. Hector Arana Jr. was after a new track record running 6.794 seconds at 196.22 mph. “I woke up and looked at the weather, and we were all in shock when we saw that [the corrected altitude] was 600 feet

below sea level,” Arana said. “Normally, 500 feet above is good.” For you non-technical folks, that means they could pack more fuel and oxygen in the engine and make more horsepower. Three experienced racers from North Carolina gave us some folks to cheer for in the Pro Stock Motorcycle Class. Shawn Gann, Stoneville, NC, rode the Clonex Racing Buell. Matt and Angie Smith, King, NC, competed on their Victory Motorcycles. Yep, the big news at zMAX was that Victory Motorcycles is in the competition and being represented by many folks’ favorite team. “I got the call in November that we were going to be the factory team for Victory Motorcycle and debut the Gunner bike,” Matt Smith said. “The first week of December, I sent a chassis up there so they could start clay modeling the drag bike. It’s pretty close to the same chassis we had been running the last couple of years. We made some changes to fit this bodywork, plus I wanted to move some stuff around.” “I went up four times to Medina, Minnesota, Victory’s head-

quarters, to help design this body with their engineers. Once done and approved by NHRA, we took it to the wind tunnel. Tweaked some things aerodynamically to make it better for us. Still working with NHRA to get approval for final changes and bodywork. If we get those changes we will be a major contender for the championship this year,” Matt said. “We debuted the bike in Gainesville, Florida. Ended up number one qualifier because we did our homework on gear ratios, clutch setup, and just getting down the track. We weren’t the fastest but we were the quickest.” The fans are having a good reaction to the new Victory race bikes. “This is big for Victory, Indian Motorcycle, and Polaris in general,” Matt said. “For us to bring this to the public is huge for them and we hope to grow this even more. We will be competitive against the major competition out here.” Matt told me about some future plans for the team. They are still running the same S&S engine they ran before with Buell bodywork. Victory doesn’t make a pushrod motor is why he’s running that engine with the Victory bodywork. NHRA mandates they run a pushrod engine. Matt has the ability to help develop a Victory engine for NHRA competition. Stay tuned in folks and see what Matt creates for the future. “If you have never ridden a Victory motorcycle, go to your local dealership and ride one,” he said. “It’s amazing how smooth and easy they are to ride. I’ve ridden the other brands and by far this is one of the smoothest bikes I’ve been on.” Reid Wilson, marketing manager for Victory Motorcycles
told me about how and why they are at the dragstrip. “Victory is a high performance brand,” Reid said. “We want to establish ourselves as the only American V-Twin performance brand. The best way to do that is go prove performance. That’s why we are racing. We saw a good opportunity in NHRA and started looking at it last year. Met a few teams and fell in love with the sport. Matt is a perfect representative for the brand. His attitude and intensity and ability to win made him a good match.” “We got a late start, but Matt has worked with the engineers at Polaris, our parent company, to develop a bike under a really quick timeline. We are happy with the pace the bike has shown so far, and the partnership between Matt, Angie, and our engineering resources at Polaris. Very optimistic that we are going to keep improving and improve Victory performance.” “Victory is the modern American muscle bike. We prove that every day of the year and why we are out here racing. Ride one and you’ll own one,” Reid said. Victory fans, go to the Carolinas’ Full Throttle website for more photos of your favorite machines at zMAX. Well, the Carolina racers didn’t do real well at the 4-Wide Nationals, no matter how good they looked. Reigning champ Andrew Hines rode his Harley-Davidson V-Rod to his first win this year and 39th of his career. The NHRA returns to zMAX for the start of their Countdown to the Championship Sept. 18 – 20.

Summer Bike Nights Begin
By: Grant Summer is on us and bike nights begin to pop all around our great state. Tilley Harley-Davidson of Salisbury kicked theirs off on Thursday, April 9th. It was a rain or shine event and the threat of rain did not stop riders from coming. The band “Big Break” was on hand as well as the food truck “Kabobs”. Morgan Ridge Vineyards and Brew House was on hand to supply beverages. Fast Freddie DJ’d the activities and everyone had a great time. The dealer does not close when the Thursday bike night happens. They are open for business for you to have a look at the new apparel, order that part you need, or just come in and say “Hey!” to all the friendly employees. Tilley’s has a great selection of new and used bikes to lust over and if you don’t see what you may have in mind, ask! Bike night at Tilley Harley-Davidson will happen each Thursday from 6-9 with vendors, different food trucks and lots of stuff going on each week. While you are there, ask for a quote on your bike insurance. Tracy can take care of that as well. Check TilleyHDofSalisbury.com or check it out on The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar to get the finer details. Smile when you see someone taking pictures and your pretty face may end up in our rag. And be sure to ride on over to Tilley H-D in Salisbury at 653 Bendix Dr. for the Thursday night bike night.

1974 Isle of Man TT American Husband And Wife Team
By: Joe Rocheleau The Isle of Man Tourist Trophy Race is the race that most motorcycle road racers dream about. The Isle of Man is located between England and Ireland. The first race held on the public roads in 1907. There were 25 entries. The race was 10 laps, 5 miles per lap, on the dirt roads, and the winner’s averaged speed was 43mph. The winner rode a twin cylinder Norton. The race is still held on the public roads, but now 1 lap is 37.75 miles, going thru 3 small towns and over a mountain. In February of 1974, the AMA Competition Director contacted us. He told us that because we were the top American sidecar team in the Sidecar Racer’s Association, the AMA would give us the only IOM TT entry they were given for the 1974 races. However, this was only an entry with no sponsors. We would have to pay for everything ourselves. We jumped at the chance to go to England and race the TT. We filled out the forms and sent them to the IOMTT, England. A few weeks later we received a letter that said we were accepted. Now the fun started. In 1974 there were no sponsors ready to pay our way, so we set about planning the trip. A couple of the sidecar teams we raced against here in the SRA were from the Isle of Man, so they helped a lot. A racing sidecar outfit does not come apart. It is a one-piece frame including the sidecar. We had a MGF racing frame with a BSA 3 cylinder 750cc engine. So, I had to build a large crate in which to ship the bike to England by airfreight. Next was booking airline reservations, hotel rooms,
and, since there were no garages at the track, a spot in a local garage for the bike. We found space in a local auto repair garage along with several other riders. Finally, we were on our way. When we got to the Isle of Man we checked into our hotel, then straight to the garage where the bike was shipped. To my surprise, the bike was not there. It was at the airport in Liverpool, 100 miles back across the Irish Sea. They could not load the crate into the plane. If I could not fix the problem I would have to re-assemble the bike and ride to the ferryboat dock to get it over to the TT. I knew they would do every thing they could to help me race the TT. I didn’t come all this way to be stopped here! At the airport, I looked at the situation and told them to stand the crate on its side and slide it into the plane. Since I packed the bike, I knew that would not hurt anything. The next day the crate was at the garage. The entry only guaranteed us an opportunity to qualify for the 750cc sidecar class race. During the week of practice we had 90 minutes in the morning and afternoon. To qualify you must post lap times under 33 minutes. Our first lap around seemed like it took us a really long time, but it was around 35 minutes. By the end of the week we were down to very low 29-minute times. One problem I was experiencing was seeing far down the road. These are public, narrow, 2 lane country roads, and they had many deep dips in them. When you ride a racing sidecar outfit, you ride very low to the ground in the kneeling position. When we would go into one of these dips I would loose sight of the road ahead of us. That meant I could not see the curves a short distance ahead of us. When you are on a motorcycle you sit up higher and can see these curves. When you racing at a very high speed, and can not see the curves coming, you need to be a little more cautious. It was very difficult to learn the 100’s of bends and turns that made up the 37.75 miles around the TT course. Our race, 3 laps, 114 miles, was scheduled for Saturday. But Saturday morning there was heavy fog on the mountain section of the course, so the race was moved to Monday. Sunday there is no practice scheduled because it is “Mad Sunday”. They open the course to the spectators to ride and
Vintage Voyager play TT racer. There is about 100,000 spectators, most with their motorcycles there to watch the TT, so the name fits. Monday dawned clear and warm. All the sidecars had to be placed in the pits on Sunday night and had to be race ready then. We went to the pits early the warm up our engine and get our racing leathers on. Then the horn sounded, the signal to get in your starting position. The racers lined up in pairs. Each pair started 10 seconds apart. At the TT you race against the clock. As we moved toward the starting line, there were Boy Scouts holding the flags of the countries entered in this race on the side of the road. When I realized the American flag was there for us, I took a deep breath of pride to know we were representing the USA. It was like going to the Olympics. Before we arrived at the starting line, 74 other sidecar racers had started their race. Please note that in the years up to about 1980, all road races were started with the engine off. Both solo and sidecar classes had to push or bump start their engine. As we approached starting line, we grabbed hands looked at each other and nodded. We were ready. Engine off, ignition on, transmission in 1st gear. The starter waved the flag. She takes 2 steps, and I take 3. I release the clutch, the engine starts and we roar down Glencrutchery Road, down Bray Hill to the first turn at Quarter Bridge. On lap one, 17 miles out we fly over the jump at Ballugh Bridge. A little over 24 miles out, we approach the Ramsey Hair Pin corner. This is a very tight, 1st gear, left hand corner. I glance at the crowd and the flagman. Alma moves out, hanging on firmly because I am on the brakes hard. We round the apex of the corner, I start to accelerate and all of sudden the bike snaps around. The passenger’s side flips up throwing Alma over me and knocking both of us off the bike. The bike falls back on its wheels and stops. We scramble to our feet, I look at her, she gives me a thumbs up. She’s ok and so am I. I quickly look over the bike and everything looks ok. So we push the bike, the engine restarts and we are off again. On the second lap, as we approach the Ramsey Hair Pin, the flagman was waving the warning flag for oil on track. I gave him a one finger wave. The remaining laps went with out any problems. As we exited the last corner and headed toward the finish line, I was very proud of our accomplishment. We were told that less then 10% of the rookies finish their first IOM TT. We were both happy with our 30th place finish. Over the years, I have come to realize that our experience was similar to going to the Olympics. Just to have the opportunity to compete at that level was worth the trip We continued racing in the Midwest and Canada until 1982. Over the years, we won many races and Championships in 1975 and 1976 and had a hell of a lot of fun racing. The sidecar racing started one at the races in Canada. After I had finish my race we went over to a near by corner to watch the sidecars run. We were watching these guys going around when Alma said to me, “That looks like a lot fun.” I agreed. They looked like they were having a great time. To my surprise she said, “Lets get one and I will be the passenger and
57
you can drive.” I answered, “Yes.” Later, she was telling some of our racing friends about what she was going to do. They said she was crazy and she would never have the guts to do that. Her answer was, “Put your money where your mouth is!” She won and collected. I never had any doubt. Oh, Yes, she also won the rookie passenger of the year award from the Sidecar Racers Association. She was a very dynamic person, that’s what I loved about her. When she got into something, she was in 100%. When she wanted something she went after it, even me. She picked me out of a crowd at a bike event and said to a girl friend, “He is the one I want.” Now the question was, how was she going to let me catch her - a blind date. She knew a few members of the Detroit Highwaymen, of which I was a member. So with a little help from my friends, the rest is history. 30 years later, she told me all about it. For the ladies reading this, she would tell you, go after the things that you want. In many cases you will have only one chance to get it. She took no chances on gifts, she gave me her list. And ladies, don’t hope or hint about what you want. He will never get the message. Just go ahead and tell him. Alma passed away in September of 2006 after fighting ovarian cancer. She wrote me a letter a few days before she died and ended it by saying, “We had a Great Ride!” She loved life, going places and doing things that I did. We were married 38 years. Motorcycles are better than women because.... If your motorcycle makes too much noise, you can buy a muffler. Motorcycles don’t care about how many other motorcycles you have. Motorcycles don’t have parents. Motorcycles don’t whine unless something is really wrong. You can share your motorcycle with your friends. If your motorcycle smokes, you can do something about it. Motorcycles don’t care about how many other motorcycles you have ridden. When riding, you and your motorcycle both arrive at the same time. Motorcycles don’t mind if you look at other motorcycles, or if you buy motorcycle magazines. If your motorcycle goes flat, you can fix it. You can have a beer while riding your motorcycle. You don’t have to be jealous of the guy that works on your motorcycle. If you say bad things to your motorcycles, you don’t have to apologize before you can ride it again. Your parents don’t remain in touch with your old motorcycle after you dump it. Motorcycles don’t insult you if you are a bad rider. Your motorcycle never wants a night out alone with the other motorcycles. Motorcycles don’t care if you are late. It’s always ok to use tie downs on your motorcycle. If your motorcycle doesn’t look good, you can paint it or get better parts. Motorcycles don’t mind you wearing your boots while riding. Motorcycles don’t mind you leaving them with other strange motorcycles. If your motorcycle isn’t working, you can always borrow your friend’s. A second grader came home from school and said to her grandmother, “Grandma, guess what? We learned how to make babies today.” The grandmother, more than a little surprised, tried to keep her cool. “That’s interesting.” she said, “How do you make babies?” “It’s simple”, replied the girl. “You just change ‘y’ to ‘i’ and add ‘es’.” A Marine Corps General was interviewed recently and the interviewer grilled him about guns and children. Female Interviewer: “So, General, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?” General: “We’re going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery, and shooting.”
While visiting a friend in the hospital, a young man notices several pretty nurses, each one of them wearing a pin designed to look like an apple. “What does the pin signify?” he asks one of them. “Oh! Nothing,” she says with a chuckle, “We just use it to keep the doctors away.” In a Catholic school cafeteria, a nun places a note in front of a pile of apples, “Only take one. God is watching.” Further down the line is a pile of cookies. A little boy makes his own note, “Take all you want. God is watching the apples.”
A grandfather was delivering his grandchildren to their home one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in the front seat of the fire truck was a Dalmatian dog. The children started discussing the dog’s duties. “They use him to keep crowds back”, said one child. “No”, said another. “He’s just for good luck.” A third child brought the argument to a close. “You’re both wrong. They use the dogs”, she said firmly, “to find the fire hydrants.” A biker at bike week in Myrtle Beach fell asleep on the beach for several hours and got horrible sunburn, specifically to his upper legs. He went to the hospital, and was promptly admitted after being diagnosed with second-degree burns. With his skin already starting to blister, and the severe pain he was in, the Doctor prescribed continuous intravenous feeding with saline, electrolytes, a sedative, and a Viagra pill every four hours. The nurse, who was rather astounded, asked, “What good will Viagra do for him, Doctor?” The Doctor replied, “It won’t do
Saint Peter is sitting at the Pearly Gates when two guys from Ferguson arrive wearing dark hoodies, and sagging pants. St. Peter looked out through the Gates and said, “Wait here, I’ll be right back.” St. Peter goes over to God’s chambers and tells him who is waiting for entrance. God says to Peter: “How many times do I have to tell you? You can’t be judgmental here. This is heaven. All are loved. All are brothers. Go back and let them in!” St. Peter goes back to the Pearly Gates, looks around, and lets out a heavy sigh. He returns to God’s chambers and says, “Well, they’re gone.” “The guys wearing hoodies?” asked God. “No. The Pearly Gates.” Sign in the laundromat above the washing machines: Remove All Your Clothes When the Light Goes Out A woman ran a red traffic light and crashed into a man’s car. Both of their cars are demolished but amazingly neither of them was hurt. After they crawled out of their cars, the woman said, “Wow, just look at our cars! There’s nothing left, but fortunately we are unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace for the rest of our days.” The man replied, “I agree with you completely. This must be wa sign from God!” The woman continued, “And look at this, here’s another miracle. My car is completely demolished, but my bottle of wine didn’t break. Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune.” Then she hands the bottle to the man. The man nods his head in agreement, opens it, drinks half the bottle and then hands it back to the woman. The woman takes the bottle, immediately puts the cap back on, and hands it back to the man. The man asks, “Aren’t you having any?” She replies, “Nah. I think I’ll just wait for the police.”

Spokes
Have you ever been riding down the road and start wondering if all your spokes were tight? I have seen people show up for a ride and look over their scoot for anything out of sorts. You know, kick the tires, check the fuel in the tank, and maybe the windshield. But rarely do you see anyone reach down and grab a hand full of spokes and squeeze them to check for looseness. Surely they are one of the most overlooked, but most important parts of the wheel. You can still ride without brakes. You can even ride without a tire, though it is not recommended. Spokes hold everything together. They carry the weight of the entire bike and passengers, sometimes over 1000lbs. And
yet they are so small. But when they work together the job of holding it all up is accomplished. The church is the same way. Jesus is the hub, the center of it all. We, the people of the church, are like the spokes extending out into the rim of the world, if you will. We as Christians are set out to support or lift up the hub “Jesus”. It is done in many ways. In the book of Ephesians chapter 4 it says, “There is one body, and one spirit. One Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. But unto every one of us grace is given according to the measure of the gift of Christ. And he gave some, prophets; and some apostles; and some evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers. These are all fairly small jobs, but when everyone does their part, a strength is formed that will carry the entire load. Enabling us to reach out from the foundation, “Jesus”, into a world of lost and hurting people who need hope. I hope you will consider becoming a spoke, but before you can do that, you must make a commitment to follow Jesus. So, what are you waiting for? Ask Jesus to come in your life today. Become a part of the wheel and see where it takes you. You will not be disappointed. Reach out, and enjoy the ride. in “HIS” wind, Popkorn

Stars & Bars Adult Easter Egg Hunt By: Uwharrie Charlie On April 5th, Stars And Bars Tavern held their annual Adult Easter Egg Hunt. This was a first for me. On the way up to cover the story I was wondering what or how an adult Easter egg hunt would be or go? First, I’m thinking they might hide some of the ladies for the gents to find; now that would be cool, huh? You know, the more you find, the bigger the prize! Oh, and vice versa for the ladies as well. But then I thought “Naaah, that would never happen, in the daylight anyway”. Then I thought, “Hey, they hide cold ones in bottles for us all to find!” Are you with me here? It would seem that I got there just in time to find out. While heading inside Stars And Bars to quench the thirst, some of the crowd was heading out the front door with small tin buckets, the kind you get served with a sixer on ice, but they were empty. So, I slide out the side door to get a glimpse what they are all doing and to get some pix. When I rounded the front of the tavern everyone was already heading my way. I got a few shots (pictures) and followed them around the side then to the back where apparently some “EGGS” were hidden! Now this has me really suspicious. I know
most all of these people. Surely they are hunting something else, right? Wrong, oh how wrong I was. They are really hunting Easter eggs filled with candy! I must just have a dirty mind. I just knew there was a catch to it. I think Monkey Butt won. It was really hard to tell. They were all nestled around one of the outdoor tables so tight, counting their catch for the day. I bet you could not have squeezed an acorn between them. A bystander, a little girl wound up with a good portion of the take. That was awesome! Now let’s all head back inside where the air conditioning was pumping and look for some more “prizes”, well, cold ones of course. That’s a wrap on another Easter Sunday afternoon at the tavern. Tune in next Easter for more shenanigans or better yet, drop in and say “hi” to the good folk at the Stars And Bars Tavern at 723 Klumac Rd. in Salisbury, NC!

Locked & Loaded 9th Annual Spring Bike Show By: WildThing What a great day to be out riding a motorcycle! On Sunday, April 12th, Mother Nature flaunted her finest in spring weather as the Triangle area riders swooped in at Locked & Loaded Grill in Garner, NC. By the time we arrived, the party was on and the huge front parking lot was full and overflow bikes were parking in the street and nearby lots where the businesses were closed for the weekend. Steve and Carlos had the band stand set up outside, facing the front door to the bar. Driver X was up first and provided some real toe tapping tunes including some Led Zeppelin. All the patio seating was occupied with partiers enjoying the fresh air under festive red umbrellas. There were numerous vendors occupying the whole side of the lot and surrounding the stage, including Ray Price Harley-Davidson, Widow Maker Custom Design Cycles, a powder coater, mobile cycle service, a ladies accessories vendor and more. You could also stock up on Locked & Loaded gear at their booth. Right in front of the patio seating was the space for the bike show. Entered in the show was an eclectic group of motorcycles. There were sleek big wheel baggers, a ‘rat’ Yamaha, a custom made VW trike, and two Widow Maker Customs. My understanding from Steve, owner of L & L, was this is not a show for trophies, but one where the owners could ‘Show’ their bikes. The show competitors were entered in a raffle and received food discounts for the day. All very interesting to look at and surely drew some compliments from the crowd. Later in the afternoon the band, 454 took the stage and did their best to rock out the music. Inside the bar things were go-
ing strong all afternoon. Tables were full with patrons enjoying the great wings and burgers and the bar was usually two to three deep seeking and enjoying ice-cold beverages and watching sports on the myriad of flat screens mounted strategically around the restaurant. While I was at the bar, the bartenders worked their butts off trying to keep up with the demands of the crowd. I would say it was worth it to wait a few minutes and be rewarded with a frosty long neck from a smiling cutie! This turned out to be a great kick-off spring party at the new location for Locked & Loaded Bar and Grill, 305 McCormick Street in Garner, NC. Make L & L a destination and be sure to seek out Steve or Carlos and tell them you read about their place in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine.

Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge Memorial Ride
The Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge is a grueling and unforgiving endurance ride, which provides participants with an opportunity to test their fortitude and then translate newfound strength and confidence into a willingness to act on behalf of others. The Challenge demands that individuals be willing to strive valiantly without allowing the fear of failure to discourage them from this objective. In 2015, Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge organizers will honor the riders who have died believing in the ideals set forth by this great event in 2010. In their memory, we will be holding a special event which begins with a group ride that starts in Lebanon, Kansas on the morning of July 31, 2015 and concludes in Hot Springs, SD that evening. Then, on the afternoon of August 1st, we will parade down Main St. Sturgis together and end with a party worthy of our fallen riders at the Indian Motorcycle Sturgis store 2016 Lazelle Street, Sturgis, SD. All are welcome to participate! This event is free of charge and open to everyone. You don’t need to be a Hoka Hey Challenger to participate, nor is it restricted to only American made motorcycles. Registration is required so please register now @ HokaHeyChallange.com and join us as we pay respect to those with the courage to live and die for what they believe in. By: Christian Pruitt There were Indian, Victory, and Harley lovers all over for Smoky Mountain Steel Horses Anniversary. Smoky Mountain Steel Horses had people lined up for the BBQ and getting ready to listen to the mile high band. Smoky Mountain Steel Horses even have a commercial being shot showing the new bikes, and showing how much of a powerhouse they are by doing Indian Motorcycles, Victory Motorcycles, Polaris Slingshot, and used Harleys. During the event they had specials going on for shirts, Indian riding apparel, Victory riding apparel, and of course, your traditional Smoky Mountain Steel Horses brand of clothing! They still carry clothes both for men and women and they have the same styles as you would find in any of the malls, but not the prices of the mall. Smoky Mountain Steel Horses is truly a one-stop shopping experience. They had Relay For Life here letting people know that their ride will be taking place on August 25th. The Relay For Life will raise money to be used for cancer research. Smoky Mountain Steel Horses also had several door prizes from free oil changes, T-shirts, gift certificates for all sorts of restaurants, including a gift card to Bourbon Barrel Beef and Ale. Not only is Smoky Mountain Steel Horses a dealership for Indian Motorcycles and Victory Motorcycles, they also dealership for Polaris Slingshot as well as new brand fun trike

bike called a Hoonatic (yes, that is the name) it is a big wheel drift trike that for sure will take that inner child and make it smile! Mile High band kept everyone entertained with great cover music! People were making requests to hear their favorite songs while eating the wonderful barbecue provided by Dick’s BBQ. They had an assembly line of volunteers helping serve the food to make sure the line went very quick and nobody could complain about how fast they got their food. And the beautiful thing was this all happened on a beautiful sunny day that started the riding season off right. I can honestly say the day was full of fun and we got to see the brand new bikes for the 2015 season. Like I’ve said before, Smoky Mountain Steel Horses is the one shot stop to get you on a bike and all the proper gear to get you rolling down the road. If you don’t have the opportunity to buy a bike, they do have rentals available so you can drive your cage to the dealership and leave on a rental bike to ride these beautiful Smoky Mountains. Stay safe, ride safe, and always watch for the crazy guy that isn’t watching you on the road. See you at the next event at Smoky Mountain Steel Horses at 82 Locust Drive in Waynesville, NC.

Horsefeathers Roadhouse Spring Jam
Story and photo by Alan Dockery The first Saturday of Spring was a beauty. It was a great day for hundreds of bikers to ride to Horsefeathers Roadhouse in Sherrills Ford, NC, for their Spring Jam. I rode in just as Manager Donna was making sure everything was ready for a party. Soon the parking lot filled with motorcycles and you could see big Spring smiles on folks’ faces. Time to get a beer and start catching up with folks you ain’t seen in a few months. And dig into some of Horsefeathers famous BBQ. Around back was the main party. First thing I wanted was my first plate of BBQ Oysters. Oh, man, were they good! Hot and fresh off the grill, with a little butter and tiny smear of sauce. And for y’all who prefer land animals, they had grilled chicken wings, too. Inside you could enjoy the rest of their great menu. I suggest the Hawg Wings or brisket. As the crowd grew, Gringo Outlaw rocked us on the deck. The music and party continued with D.J. Mark entertaining us for a while and then Nunya Business playing into the night. I hope y’all thanked Tim, the owner, and Donna for giving us a nice start to spring and riding season. Horsefeathers Roadhouse is a unique place on a Lake Norman cove in the Southeast corner of Catawba County, about a mile North of Hwy 150. I think it’s LYNN ISENHOUR’S the oldest, coolest place on the lake to get great food and cold beer. With 24 5458 Robinhood Village Dr. Apt. 104, beer taps you can Winston-Salem, NC try something new. Might like it. They have the largest www.LynnIsenhour.com smokehouse in the Email: lisenhour@triad.rr.com area, too. It may look small from the STURGIS, SD TOUR (Non-Rally) May 30th–June 6th front, but there is ROCKY MOUNTAIN & UTAH TOUR June 19th–28th lots of room inside on two levels. Plus JACKSON HOLE, WYOMING TOUR July 10th–19th they have The Big Deck, 2,100 sq. new and very active website - HorsefeathersBBQ.com - for all new blogs and calendar updates. A new menu just came out and has something on it that will be your favorite this summer. “Come see the Horsefeathers Girls,” Tim said. “They are easy on the eyes and committed to stellar service. By all means, come help us keep the party going!”

Story by Alan Dockery Photo by Pam Lucas Wanna make lots of Bikers smile? Tell them Riders’ Roost located in Ferguson, NC, is open for another season of camping, friendship, swimming, fishing, riding, and so much more. I’m ready for grilling fish, tipping beers and jars, and making smores. This year is special because it’s 25 years since this cool little place opened providing an excellent base camp for people from all over the world to stay while riding our mountains. Opening weekend, the first of April, was kinda low-key with a small group of regular Roosters. Some of us hauled stuff up there for our lockers. Some went riding. Others just sat and soaked up the lovely Riders’ Roost atmosphere. It was also opening day of trout season so legal to catch those big ole rainbow trout that hang in the creek. Dave and Pam said they are working on some special 25th Anniversary shirts, but if you want one you need to order it now. Memorial Day Weekend is the official 25th Anniversary Party with music, food, and memorial service. Y’all are welcome any weekend and check out Riders’ Roost website or Facebook for details on all the parties planned for the year.

By: Rick Gammons Monty and Bob over at Indian of Greensboro are at it again. They have recently acquired a complete Victory Motorcycle lineup as part of their inventory, including the new Magnum and X1 versions of the already popular Cross Country. Saturday, March 28th was crisp and very cool, not the kind of day for fair weather songbirds. The people I encountered were a bit more hardcore. But, a rare appearance by the Victory Motorcycle demo truck drew out the kind of rider that Victory is looking for - seasoned cruisers that may be a bit rough around the edges, people that know the value that Victory Motorcycles offer. Monty told me that they had approximately 300 “butts on bikes” during the demo weekend. Unfortunately, I could not ride this time because of double bypass heart surgery. That sucks, but I needed to err on the side of caution. I was really looking forward to this ride! Anyway, Monty stated that the weekend had been a madhouse at times, with personnel scrambling to get riders on their preferred motorcycle. The weekend was busy, with the drag race Friday (Victory was there); group rides Saturday and then Sunday for the demo ride. Bikers had a helluva weekend in this area. Victory has its eye on the power cruiser riders. That is why the Magnum and the Magnum X1 were the featured motorcycle during the weekend. That said, there were eight different bike styles represented. Cruisers included the Vegas, the Gunner, and the High Ball. Baggers were the Cross Country and Cross Country Tour. Then there was the Magnum, the Arlen Ness Magnum, the Magnum X1, and the Vision Tour. All were great representatives of the line. All Victory motorcycles have a 106 cu. in. engine. There are more basic styles like the Vegas and Gunner up to the Vision Tour, with a swept style hard case bag and rear section. But the winner of the weekend rides was the Magnum X1 and the Arlen Ness Magnum. I asked some of the riders about the handling of the 21” front tire on the Magnum. I understood that the larger wheel made handling a bit “cheeky”, but not so! Not one rider had a problem handling the new size tire. This happened because the Victory design team put the correct rake on the front along with a relocated front fender, eliminating some of the sensitive nature of the larger tire. Another thing that impressed some of the riders was the ten speaker stereo system offered this year. Victory installed a 100-watt screaming stereo system with six speakers in the faring and two speakers in each of the rear bags. This eliminates the lapse in balance. Sound flows out evenly throughout the length of the motorcycle. If you missed this demo ride, it may be too late to catch another in this area. Victory demo rides are rare, BUT if you

Ray Price Racing Takes Home Wally At JEGS Cajun Sports Nationals
The Ray Price Racing Top Fuel Harley ridden by Tommy Grimes took home the Wally at the JEGS Cajun SPORTSNationals on the weekend of March 20-22. This was the second of 10 races in the 2015 NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series. “It was a challenging track the last few days. The weather conditions continued to change all weekend long, but we finally managed to dial it in,” said team owner, Ray Price. “I’m very proud of Tommy and the entire crew. They kept the bike consistent and took home the win at the end of the day.” The threat of rain on Sunday prompted NHRA officials to move up eliminations to Saturday. Grimes defeated Rich Vreeland in the 1st round with a 6.338 E.T./221.96 mph over his 8.273 E.T./119.06 mph. In the finals, Grimes faced off against Randall Andras. Grimes took the win light with a 6.444 E.T./225.86 mph over Andras 7.606 E.T./185.33 mph.

NC Police Officer Memorial Ride By: Kevin Yates Veteran Enforcers Motorcycle Association (VEMA) coordinated a memorial ride honoring New Bern Police Officer Alex Thalmann on Saturday, April 11th. Officer Thalmann was also a US Marine Reservist, who died on March 31, 2014 after sustaining injuries in the line of duty. As the anniversary of Thalmann’s passing approached, the idea to recognize and honor his sacrifice quickly grew into a very successful motorcycle event in Eastern North Carolina. VEMA, a national not-for-profit organization with a mission to recognize and pay homage to our Military, Law Enforcement, and Fire-Rescue servants who have answered the call to duty. We accomplish this by supporting and organizing charitable events and functions that raises awareness to the sacrifices our brothers and sisters have made in service to our country and communities. To ensure that Officer Thalmann’s sacrifice is not forgotten, a scholarship was created at the Craven Community College Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program. Local sponsors Huggins Law Firm, Trenton, NC; Harris Teeter of New Bern; Riverside Hardware of New Bern; Harley-Davidson of New Bern, ensured that all overhead expenses were covered and 100% of all proceeds of the motorcycle ride were donated to the scholarship Over 150 riders were registered and raised over $1,670 from a police escorted, 60 mile ride through 3567 Soco Rd.
