pril was sure full of events and if that is any indication of what we can expect the rest of the year, you are going to have lots of choices for rides, rallies, and activities this year. I challenge you to attend as many as you can. I also challenge you to go somewhere “different” this year. By that I mean somewhere that you have not been before. We have a tendency to go to the same events year after year and while that’s not bad in itself, I have seen it get a little too repetitive to the point that it is “comfortably numb”. And motorcycling is not supposed to be that! Excitement and adventure should be key words for each time we venture out on our bikes. Sometimes we expect someone else to add those elements to our rides and that should not be the case, either. Step out on your own if there are no scheduled events to attend. There is no end to the pleasure of an unscheduled road trip. Even getting “lost” can be fun if you let it be. Remember, If you aren’t out of gas, you are not lost. You just haven’t been there before. So, gas up, get on, and GO! Anywhere. Just GO! May is Motorcycle Awareness Month, but that doesn’t mean every driver sees you. Watch out for distracted drivers and always ride safe. Save the celebration for the end of the ride and never let a brother or sister ride if they have had too much to drink. They may hate you then, but they will thank you tomorrow. And while we are talking about thanking our friends, remember those who have served to preserve our liberty. Monday, May 28 is Memorial Day. Formerly known as Decoration Day, this national holiday commemorates all men and women who have died in military service for the United States. Many people attend parades or visit cemeteries and memorials on Memorial Day. Sounds like a road trip with a purpose to me.

45th Annual CBA Spring Swap Meet & Bike Show By: Buzz More and more I am finding out that swap meets are at the top of my list of favorite events. Basically, it’s a big ol biker yard sale that all your friends are going to as well. Throw in a bike show, live music, cold beers, and a stage full of scantily dressed dancing women and we The Concerned are talking about Bikers Association a heck of a good is the only MRO time! The good in NC and uses the news is that the money you spend at Concerned Bikers Association the swap meet puts on two such to fight for your events, sponmotorcycle rights sored by Tilley Harley-Davidson of Salisbury, every year! This year the CBA is celebrating their 45th Annual Swap Meet & Bike Show. The Spring version of this event was held on March 24-25, and even with meticulous planning and years of incite, mother nature wasn’t in on the deal. The forecast for the event’s weekend was winter mix all day, all weekend. Sounds like a barrel of fun for an outside event, right? If

you have attended a swap meet you will know that swap meet pickers are a different, more hardy, breed of biker. They are out looking for hard to find parts, deals, and even parts they didn’t know they needed. The gates to the Rowan County Fairground opened at 10am at Saturday and a steady stream of bikers rolled in to and started the “swap meet crawl” from vendor to vendor for these all important finds. The CBA Swap Meet is at least 60% outside and even with the bad forecast, the nasty weather held off for a few hours. It’s amazing what you will see the tables of the swap meet. Everything from complete bikes, piles of handlebars, jugs, heads, wheels, frames, tires, nuts, bolts, and clothes to the occasional oddity like a suit of armor. Now, that even peaked my interest! If you are looking to build an awesome living room chopper or finish the one you have started, your gonna want to hit the swap meet. Among the vendors I ran into Mike Rummage and Junior of Tilley Harley-Davidson of Salisbury who had a ton of cool H-D goodies, Shannon and Dextor Rights who were set up for The McGrath Law Firm – The Firm The Rides, Ms. Pat and David Burnette and a crew of the His Laboring Few Motorcycle Ministry and Chuck and Clyde from STE Powersports brought some previously loved motorcycles with them. The CBA was set up right outside one of the Vendor buildings. They were selling shirts along with other CBA swag and discounted memberships. Seriously yall, If you ride and aren’t a member of the Concerned Bikers Association all you are saying is “I don’t care if the government whittles away at my rights as a biker”. The Concerned Bikers Association is the only MRO [Motorcycle Rights Organization] in North Carolina and uses the money you spend at the swap meet to fight for your motorcycle rights in North Carolina and in Washington, DC. For more information on CBA, please visit CharlotteCBA.org or CBA-ABATENC.org for State information.

I had made my outside rounds and was heading into the building to check out the heated section of the event around 1pm when the weather started to arrive. Even as some crispy rain fell, the crowd remained picking through the vendor tables, it’s just that kind of party. Inside the main building more vendors, friends, and heat were waiting. It was awesome to see a bunch of folks that I hadn’t seen since that last swap meet and swap the stories we had acquired in between events. Also inside the buildings is the Bike show that had a couple spectacular bikes in it all the way from a few Antique beauties to some wild custom baggers and all bikes in between. The bike show attracts these show bikes due to the $1000 in people’s choice awards. The People’s choice winner also gets featured in the Bob Karney (the Carolinas’ biker lawyer) Karney Law Firm wall Calendar. That makes entering your bike in this competition a no brainer! The bike show is judged on Sunday, the results are as follows: Terry Kepley, Best in Show and People’s Choice. Second place overall, Scott Justice. 1st place in both radical and stock went to Chuck McDaries. As a special attraction this year, Danny Thompson, from TV’s Airplane Repo, made an appearance. Danny is a real NC biker, not a TV biker and a great guy! Opposite of Danny’s table, was Matt Bolick who is a biker in real life and appeared as part of the Bike Saviors on season 6 of “The Walking Dead”. Both guys were easy to talk to and glad to take pictures and sign autographs for their fans. I headed back outside to find that weather had continued, but there were still some hardy pickers looking through the vendors and the 69Z band was cranked up inside the tent that is in the center of the midway. The guys in 69Z are a main stay at the swap meet and they pump out some good ol’ classic rock tunes like they wrote ‘em themselves. They are also gracious enough to share the stage with the lovely ladies that were competing for cash in Best Buns and Wet T-shirt contest. I don’t have to go into too much detail here for you to get the picture. It was the first time of the day the cold weather help

out as the tent was getting a little hot! Let’s just say it was a good idea to stick around and watch the show! Through crowd participation Kelly won 1st place in best buns and the wet t-shirt contest. The runner up contestants for the best buns were Colleen in 2nd place and Genevia in 3rd place. Heather took 2nd place in the wet t-shirt contest and Genevia followed up in 3rd place. There were no losers in this competition and all the girls who placed took home a wad of cash, some of which was solicited from the crowd! Big applause for Lloyd Issac for the terribly hard job of emceeing these contests and to Amy Harvell for rounding up the contestants. The CBA Swap Meet and Bike Show shenanigans went on for a full day on Sunday and had much better weather. If you missed the spring swap meet, keep your eyes peeled for the Fall Swap Meet, it’s been scheduled for November 10-11. Trust me, you’ll have a good time!

Tilley H-D Spring Open House

Story and photo by Alan Dockery The second Saturday in April we had a pretty day for the Tilley H-D Spring Open House in Statesville, NC, finally ending this long aggravating Winter. Lots of folks were ready for Folks loved the riding season, new paint job, packing the parking lot having their chests rattled and a dose of and riding in nitromethane in the all during the afternoon. Spring air. Besides great deals on new Harley-Davidson motorcycles and accessories, the Service Department provided complimentary safety inspections. A bunch of cool door prizes from the dealership were given out. The top prize was a guitar signed by the day’s star, Rockie Lynne. Yeah, we all love visiting Tilley H-D and seeing the great staff we have known for years. But the big draw on that day was Rockie Lynne and his band performing on the big stage. Rockie grew up in Statesville and is a national country

music star these days. His music reflects the life many folks can relate to. Rockie served in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, as a paratrooper. Some of his songs are Continued On Page 24

about challenges service members face. One of his albums is titled Songs For Soldiers. His band regularly performs at patriotic and military events. Tribute To The Troops is a national charitable organization founded by Rockie with a chapter in North Carolina. This group of volunteers and supporters works to raise awareness of the sacrifices made by America’s fallen military heroes and their families. They established the Fallen Heroes’ Children’s Education Fund which provides assistance to the surviving children of our fallen heroes for post-secondary education costs. To help these children, Tribute To The Troops opens a 529 education account in their name. Before the concert, a check was presented to Ronan and Zoe Evans in the name of their father CW2 Mark Evans. At Tilley’s open house there were a few ways folks could donate to future education funds as well as their favorite charities. DOC Bail Bonding and Bob Karney, Carolinas’ Biker Lawyers, made it real simple for lots of y’all. They donated $10 for each club patch-wearing member who stopped at the table and signed up. “We had a 501(c)3 club patch donation,” said Donny Bradley, owner of DOC Bail Bonding. “Ten clubs stopped by with a total of 186 members. We donated ten dollars a patch to their charitable originations. DOC Bail Bonding also raised over $165 on shirt sales and J&S Fab donated a U.S. Flag art for a

drawing. We raised over $520 for Tribute To The Troops.” There was plenty to do at Tilley’s that day. Josh Perryman was on stage playing some background music for us. Vendors were on two sides of the building. You could buy Rockie Lynne merchandise. The Karney Girls were handing out SWAG Bags and posing for photos. Twisted Dog Productions was painting faces and making the coolest balloon animals and things. Y’all oughta seen the motorcycle he made. Guardians of the Children, Perk Chaser, Riderz Retirement, and Melanie Webb, Realtor, were also there. The Bella Express was taking folks for a train ride around the dealership. Smoke Wagon BBQ was serving up some good food. Skull Camp Brewing brought a few of their beers and wines to wash down lunch. WAME Radio was live on site. Morning host Billy Buck even got on the jump start bike and revved it up. Janette Thornley and Buddy Foss made some real noise. They fired up her national championship winning Pro Fuel Harley drag bike. Folks loved the new paint job, having their chests rattled and a dose of nitromethane in the Spring air. Terry Levan summed it up well. “Wow, what a great day it was. We had pretty weather, a great band, good food, cold beer, and lots of friends and motorcycles. I don’t think the day could have been any better. Robinette had a great time seeing her grandchildren riding the train. Thanks so much to all the people who came out to hang out with us. We are gonna do it again in July.” “Events like that can’t be done without a lots of help,” Terry said. “I want to say a big “thank you” to all our great Tilley HD employees. What a fantastic job you guys did taking care of all the customers. A big “thank you” to Janette Thornley for coordinating and cranking up that championship winning drag bike. A big “thank you” to Rolling Thunder 2 Rhonda-Sonny Deal for all y’all guys do. Thanks to the Statesville HOG Chapter for coming out and helping out. And thanks to 92.9 Billy Buck Blevins and the best radio station ever for coming out. Thank you to all our customers and great friends for making our open house a big success. Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.”

8th Annual Blessing Of The Bikes By: Wally Wersching On Saturday, March 31st, I planned go the 8th Annual Carolina Faith Riders’ “Blessing Of The Bikes, And Bike Show” near Forest City. The weatherman said that it was going to be a beautiful day, so I was looking forward to visiting with some old friends while making some new ones, too. I left home riding “Miss Vickie” at about 10 AM. I rode west on Rte. 74, stopping at the old Rutherford County Moose Lodge. There were many bikes already parked in front, so I found a spot where I could easily leave. I wasn’t going to stay until the end of the Bike Blessings, and didn’t want to get blocked in. I found Mike, the President of the Faith Riders, and gave him a stack of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazines to give away. He placed them on the registration table. It was good to see people picking them up and reading them as they walked away from the table. The bike show was in full swing. There were many catego-

ries – enough for any bike that was ridden in to participate. I met a young lady, and her Harley DynaGlide. She rode in with her friends – members of the Diablas – women’s motorcycle group. I had seen her at other local events. I learned that she lived in Landrum, SC. Bikers come from all over to participate in these local events. It’s a great way to meet new friends. There was a line at the food table. Daryl was cooking the hot dogs, and they had all the fixin’s to go with them. Everybody was chowin’ down. They said that the food was delicious. I only had a bag of potato chips. I didn’t want to spoil my lunch later with Cindy. The band started playing and sounded pretty good. I didn’t hear their name but the name on the bass drum was “Saving Darkness”. It’s hard to get a band to sound good outside with all the other distractions. There was a large crowd with more bikers riding in the whole time I was there. I was surprised because the CCIB was holding their event on the same day just a few miles away. Many of the CCIB members would have been at the Bike Blessing if it were not for their own event, and likewise many of the Carolina Faith Riders would be at the CCIB event. The CCIB event was scheduled for March 24th, but the weather was so bad it had to be rescheduled to the rain date – March 31st. I walked around a few more times talking with some old friends I hadn’t seen since the toy runs at the end of last year. Some were making plans for other events later in the year. It looks like this year will be another “Biker Friendly” year. At about 11:30, I thanked everyone, and headed back home.

2nd Annual Operation Christmas Child Benefit Ride

By: Danny J. & Renee H. We are pleased to announce that our 2nd Annual Operation Christmas Child Benefit Ride at Grace Baptist Church of Madison, NC was awesome this year. Operation Christmas Child is a mission we do to spread the Word and love of God. You just take a shoebox and pack it with stuffed animals, school supplies, toothbrush etc. and they go out to children all over the world that have never heard of God’s Word and love. Danny and I were ecstatic about the turnout. We had 60 bikers plus 18 riders. First of all, we want to thank God and a big thank you to Marty Bullins of Bull Baggers Customs and our lead man, Johnny Lawrence, for all their help as well as our food committee and volunteers that came out to help, and, of course, the bikers and riders. God blessed us with a beautiful day on Saturday, April 14th, We enjoyed the day along with great food and great fellowship with some great people. So, get ready for our 3rd Annual Operation Christmas Child Benefit Ride coming up in 2019.

The Congregation 2018 By: Buzz Just outside of downtown Charlotte, NC, nestled in a 1920’s Ford factory is a gem of a show called The Congregation. The Congregation is They were inspired an indoor by the history and invitational engineering of these motorcycle machines… show and gathering, built by Prism Supply and Dice Magazine. They were inspired by the history and engineering of these machines and the many talented builders that breathe new life into the vintage iron. This year’s Congregation boasted over 120 vintage motorcycles and 30+ hot rods. This is the second year of the Congregation and my first year being able to attend. I am a big fan of vintage and antique motorcycles and this was exactly what I was looking for. The bikes in the Congregation Show ranged from stock Knuckleheads, Flathead bobbers, Board Track racers with 1925 H-D power plants, Panhead choppers to vintage Triumph choppers and even some choppers with more modern heartbeat. It wasn’t hard to rack up a ton of pictures as I made my way around Camp North End, the 1920 era Ford Factory that holds this show. The setting was just right with the old wooden factory floor and huge old windowed walls adding a perfect back drop to the event. It’s really hard to put into words just how cool this event was, good thing I took a bunch of pictures that you can view on our website www.FullThrottleMagazine.com. Out back of the building folks huddled around tables enjoy-

ing a beautiful sunny day, mixed with live music, and some cold beverages. But I didn’t spend much time outside, there was just too much to see inside. There were some cool vendors set up inside including TC Bros, Dice Magazine, Photographers, leather smiths, and others. I made my way around the show and saw some old friends, drooled over the bikes for a bit, and then got back in the wind. If you like old motorcycles keep your eyes peeled for next year’s Congregation Show you won’t regret it. If you missed this show you have another great opportunity to see a ton of antique motorcycles at The Southern National Swap Meet presented by the Antique Motorcycle Club of America at the Denton Farm Park in Denton, NC. This year’s event will be the 9th annual event and it has grown every year. There will be a ton of antique motorcycles riding around the Farm Park, thousands of hard to find parts at the swap meet, antique motorcycle bike games, bike show, and a unique “History in Motion” narrated antique motorcycle parade. The Southern National Meet will take place on May 18-19 and admission is only $12 for both days. Stop by The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine booth and say “Hey”! See ya there.

4th Annual Southeastern Gathering Of The Tribes By: David Burnette Well, the 4th Annual Southeastern Gathering Of The Tribes at Spartanburg HarleyDavidson was one for the books. There was a huge threat of rain storms all week long and, if you watched the weather on TV, you would have thought it was going to be a There seemed to be a wash out great sense of for the brotherhood and weekend, unity in the air. but God had other plans! Some friends and I went down on Thursday evening and camped out in the field next to the Harley shop so we could be there to help get everything set up on Friday for the event on Saturday. It was a little cold and windy that night, but only a few drops of rain fell all the way up through Saturday and it warmed up into the 60’s for the event, so it was not so bad after all.

I know the threat of bad weather kept many away, but there was a pretty good turnout overall. There were several vendors there with everything from leather goods to jewelry and ev-

erything in between. There was plenty of free food and drinks available. There was a tattoo contest, a beard contest, and all kinds of other stuff going on. All I can say is y’all should have been there. There were many different motorcycle ministries and clubs set up as well. I think overall, I counted around 25 different patches from all over. I know several rode in from New Jersey and Kentucky and many from North and South Carolina. Some came from as far as California. We saw friends we don’t always get to see and made some new ones. There seemed to be a great sense of brotherhood and unity in the air. There were many great speakers sharing what God has done in their lives, talking about the life they came from and where God has brought them to now. Many people came forward and received prayer for healing and whatever else they were dealing with and left feeling refreshed. Harvey Mayhill of the Patriot Riders and others put on an amazing tribute to our veterans. Harvey brought out his custom Can Am spider along with an awesome display you would just have to see as words just wouldn’t do it justice. You’ll just have to go online to see the pictures for yourself. There are a lot of pictures posted on Facebook Gathering Of The Tribes’ page. I know for me, sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in what I’m doing and lose sight of what’s going on around me with other people or groups, so it was nice to just be a part of something much bigger than me with no particular group or

person taking credit for anything but just letting God be God and enjoying being around like-minded people. Thanks to all those who put a lot of time, money, and effort into this event and especially for those who spent a lot of time praying and God for showing up. It was awesome. Y’all keep a watch out for future gatherings to be announced and come be a part of the next one. In the meantime, y’all be blessed and ride safe.

New Owners For JR’s Corner Tavern By: Rose and Lloyd Jimmy Hunt grew up with JR’s Corner Tavern as his neighborhood hangout. He became close friends with Barry Glenn during his time of ownership. Jimmy retired from Harris Teeter where he worked driving a truck for 39 years. He battled cancer for 16 months with many friends standing by his side doing rides and benefits. One friend, Misti Crouse, was always there for him. It is a small bar After the cancer scare and with a “Cheers” a true battle, Jimmy realized he wanted Misti in his feeling. life forever. Being a part of JR’s for many years, the opportunity opened up for him to buy it. Jimmy and Misti did a lot of talking and decided they wanted to make JR’s theirs. He very much wanted to keep JR’s Corner Tavern a legend for his good friend, Barry Glenn. After many weeks of cleaning, jumping through the many hoops to get all the necessary licenses and permits, and putting everything in place to make a statement of their own, they opened the doors on Friday, February 9th. When word got out that one of our own biker family had

reopened JR’s, the bikers came to support Jimmy and Misti. They have developed a lot of regulars, and new people are checking out JR’s every day. It is a small bar with a “Cheers” feeling. Everybody knows your name. Jimmy and Misti have a lot of plans and want very much for JR’s to be a part of the biker community. They are having bike night on Wednesday with food and entertainment. Every other Thursday (beginning May 3) is Open Mic Night and if you drop by on Sunday, they have free food. Ice cold beer is a staple at Jr’s and their daily drink specials are listed on their Facebook page. So, come out to JR’s Corner Tavern at 901 Greensboro Road in High Point, NC and show Jimmy and Misti your support. They are there most every evening to greet you and give you a hug of thanks.

Bull City HOG Chili Cookoff By: Ed Cleary Long before the doors at Raging Bull Harley-Davidson opened for business members from the Bull City HOG Chapter were hard at work in the parking lot setting up for their annual Chili Cook-off. Tents were erected, extension cords were run, and the crock pots were fired up! And with that the low hanging clouds began to thin, and the early morning cold faded away into a beautiful day. Elsewhere in the lot, the Christian Motorcyclists Association, Hells Angels, and the School Of Rock were also busy with their own set ups. At the appointed hour of 11 am, the chili fans lined up and the tasting began. It was a close contest, but in the end, Doug Banks took first place, and bragging rights till next year. Steve Ross came in a close second. Adding to the festivities was the School of Rock. These guys and girls were really fun to watch and listen to. The adult performers provided the opening set and then the younger members came out and really cut loose. All in all, it was a great family day with food, music, lots of motorcycles, and, of course, great fellowship with folks from all over the Triangle area. HOG Chapter Director Bucky Thomas recognizes Chili Cookoff Winner, Doug Banks.

6th Annual Creekside Spring Bike Rally

Story and Photo by Alan Dockery Well, I think this long, aggravating winter finally broke by the middle of April because it was a pretty weekend for the 6th Annual Creekside Spring Rally and gave local bikers their first event of the season. Hosted by the Southern Gentlemen MC, I laugh every time I the Creekside see the fishing pole Rally is held on a nice weenie bite rig they private country use. property, in Gaston County, NC, where bikers could catch up with friends and party for the weekend. The rally starts Friday afternoon as folks ride in to set up camp and vendor spots. With good weather, it looked like this was gonna be a growing year for the rally. This small rally seems to grow a little every year. Lots of folks were setting up to be there all weekend. The bands started playing and getting bikers in the party mood. A few food folks were ready to serve

great meals from breakfast to supper. The bar was stocked with plenty of your favorite cold beverages. The property is well laid out with lots of camping area. A nice stage faces an area to dance and the bar and tables where folks can enjoy the bands. The music line up this year included; Adam Clark & Kevin Washam Duo, House of Payne, Bakkwoodz, Honky Tonk Outlaws, Shannon Lee Trio, and Sinners. Saturday morning the weather looked great as folks slowly got going and more people rode in for the day or to spend the night. A cruise of the vendors showed a variety of cool things to check out and buy. Certain things you can only find from biker vendors and I’m a sucker for gun and bike raffles, too. That afternoon Magic Mike and the guys put on some bike games to entertain folks. He even entered some and won the Biker Beer Pong with Wendy chugging and tossing the beer cans. Spanky, from The Guardians of the Children, won the Slow Ride. Stephanie Hans was the Weenie Queen, again, riding with Special Ed. I laugh every time I see the fishing pole weenie bite rig they use. Slightly improved now that it’s taped to a piece of wood. Then the Beer Bongs came out. Biggin won the men’s chug and Samantha showed how fast she can down beers beating the rest of the women. Soon after, the Honky Tonk Outlaws took the stage to get folks fired up for Saturday night’s party. Creekside is such a cool site for a bike rally. It’s very private and a short ride from Charlotte, Hickory, Gastonia, Statesville, and other Carolina towns. The Southern Gentlemen have been holding this rally for five years and do both Spring and Fall rallies. Y’all ride on down to the creek when they do it again in September.

Ambush was laying down some good ol’ country tunes like they wrote them personally and the crowd responded with dancing, toe tapping, and the appropriate applause between songs. Inside, the bar was full of thirsty patrons and the tables in the dining area were filling up. Ted’s has some of the best wings in North Carolina and the smell of Kickin’ Chicken filled the dining area. It’s not something you want to miss out on. The parking lot stayed full all night long. Like I said, folks from all over the state know that Ted’s bike night is legendary, or it could be the $2 beer and 75¢ wings that kept the crowd on hand. Whatever it was we partied down til around 10 pm. Tim Sealey & The Ambush Band capped the night off with a few more tunes and we all called it a night. The good news is that Ted’s Kickin’ Chicken does bike night every Thursday, so if you missed out this week, go next week! Ted’s is a good place to ride to any night of the week to enjoy a few ice-cold beers and awesome wings. 10th Annual Oconee County SC Vet-Fest 2018 By: Bill Gallaway Sunday March 25th was the date for the 10th Annual Oconee County SC Vet-Fest. This year we honored the founder of the event A. J. Smith (Smitty). The Vet-Fest is held annually to help support Patriots’ Hall the Veterans Museum in Walhalla, SC. All Veterans are honored during the event and there is always a lot of camaraderie among the participants. I arrived at Patriots Hall It was so cold that at 12:10 to help set up. before I left there was The weather was cool and only one motorcycle partly cloudy with temps signed up. in the high 40’s. Other volunteers had already put out the signs to help register attendees and give them their information packets. This year each attendee received a card or coupon in their packets to get a free lunch at one of the many sponsors’ restaurants. The first bike out was scheduled for 1:10. This year I wasn’t working any of the stops, so I got to hang around for the start. It was so cold that before I left there was only one motorcycle signed up. At 2 PM I led a group of riders to Wolf Stake Baptist Church in Seneca, SC where at 12:30 the Lewis

G Watkins Detachment of the Marine Corp League were having a ceremony to recognize Oconee County SC’s only Medal of Honor recipient. U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Lewis G. Watkins, known to his men as “Slim”. U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Lewis G. Watkins gave is life to save his men during the Korean War and later posthumously received the Medal of Honor for his sacrifice. President Dwight D. Eisenhower awarded the Medal of Honor to Watkins for his “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty” The day’s program was held in recognition of National Medal of Honor Day designated by Congress to be March 25th. This holiday should be one of our most revered, so it was fitting that the Vet-Fest riders stop and honor one of our own for giving the ultimate sacrifice. After the Medal of Honor Ceremony, I did make it back for the Vet-Fest awards ceremony that started at 4:10 pm and participated in the silent and live auction. Most everyone walked away with a prize of some sort, but the real awards went to the Veterans. A good time was had by all participants that were recognized at the VFW Post 6830 and to Patriots Hall which honors our Veterans on a daily basis. Thanks for all the sponsors that helped with the annual event. Watch for next year’s event as they are a little different every year.

Cool Dad’s Ride By: Ed Cleary The first annual Cool Dad’s Ride, staged at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Durham, was billed as a “Rain or Shine” event, and rain it did! Unfortunately, the rain was accompanied by frigid temperaA stack of thank you tures and some letters was sitting on early morning the refreshments table low lying fog, for all to see. so for the sake of safety the ride had to be cancelled. The rain could not put a damper on the rest of the day’s planned activities though. The Cool Dad’s Ride was created by Glen Setliff, as a way of bringing awareness, and some financial assistance, to the struggle single mothers in the Durham area face. Glen first became aware of their plight after the passing of his son Parker. Parker was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder while in middle school and according to Glen, the drugs prescribed for his son’s treatment failed to help him “feel

normal”. Out of desperation, Parker resorted to self-medication with illicit drugs, which ultimately led to his death. Parker’s passing left two young women, each with small children, to fend for themselves. In response, Glenn created “Parker’s House” in 2007, to provide transitional housing for homeless mothers. Parker’s House ran for 3 years before it became financially unsustainable. “Scaling back”, said Glen, “I decided that I could pay the electrical bill of at least one single mom per month and provide a $500 educational grant a to single mom each semester. I used Iron Butt motorcycle rides to raise money and awareness for the cause. A mentor saw that I was doing this all myself and suggested that I “share the blessing” by allowing other motorcycle riders to join in. It’s very difficult to do a group Iron Butt ride, so I decided to do a local group ride. I remembered that shortly after his first son was born, Parker told me that the only time I had ever been a “cool dad” was when I rode my motorcycle. I have some friends who had said similar things about their kids thinking it was cool that they rode motorcycles, so I thought that would be a good name for the group ride.” A stack of thank you letters was sitting on the refreshments table for all to see. These heartfelt letters of gratitude testify to the profound effect Glen’s efforts have had on the Durham community. All recipients of Glen’s work are chosen in the blind by the Mt. Sylvan United Methodist Church, where

57

Glenn is a member. In addition to refreshments a prize drawing was held, and Randy Gordon won a gift certificate for the Harley-Davidson rider academy, graciously donated by Tobacco Road HarleyDavidson in Raleigh. The day closed with a Blessing of the Bikes, delivered by Rev. Larry Bowden, Pastor, Mt. Sylvan United Methodist Church.

It was a beautiful spring morning, so I rode “Miss Vickie” from Shelby to the Lincolnton Church Of God parking area on the right. The Biker ministry “Driven By Grace” was the sponsor for their 11th Annual “Blessing Of The Bikes”. I really enjoy spending time with the “Driven By Grace” people. They are all so friendly.

After a cordial greeting, I learned that Candy and Danny might be there later in the day. They were the leaders of the ministry, but now Danny has moved up to Assistant Pastor, and doesn’t have the time to spend leading the ministry right now. I missed Candy’s beautiful singing. I brought a large stack of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazines and placed them on the table where everything is free. Then, I walked around talking with old friends. We shared stories about many interesting rides we’ve had. I had a hot dog, while we talked. “Driven By Grace” always has great tasting food at their events. “Miss Vickie” was the only Victory motorcycle there until a group of Gargoyles from Lincolnton rode in. One man was riding a Victory Cross Country. I found him later, and we talked. He seems to buy motorcycles before he tells his wife. This was his second Victory. He traded in an older one for this one. His wife wasn’t too upset this time - especially after she rode on it. It was so comfortable! Later, I bumped into “Grumpy” from the CCIB. We talked for quite a while until it was time to start the Blessing Of The Bikes. He wanted to get his blessing quickly because he had a lot of work to do at home. He said that he had a “Honey Do” list a mile long. I remember when I lived in Chicago, we would all go for a bike blessing, and the priest would come out onto a stage or a place where he could see all the bikes, and then bless all the bikes and riders at once. The “Driven By Grace” ministry does it differently. Many of their members gather around each motorcycle with its rider, and pray for him, and his ride. We were instructed to stand by our bikes and wait for the group to come for the blessing. That’s when I saw Danny ride in. He was going to be part of the blessing, too.

www.

When it was my turn, I was moved by their prayers. I could feel the presence of God as they all prayed for “Miss Vickie” and me to be safe during the upcoming year. I was glad that we were blessed again for another year. It seems like there are many bike blessings in the spring. Bikers can use all the help we can get when riding our bikes. It always helps to have God on our side. When they moved on to other bikes, I left as quietly as I could. I arrived home and talked Cindy into going out for lunch.

The 28th Annual Dickie Martin Bunny Run By: Everette “EZ” Short This year, Easter Sunday greeted us with warm winds, sunny skies, and it even landed on April 1st, April Fool’s Day, to bring us headlong into the perfecta that was The 28th Annual Dickie Martin Bunny Run. On Easter Sunday, for the last 28 years, Dickie Martin (world famous bike builder and mechanical madman extraordinaire) has led a rowdy, yet merry band of motorcycle misfits, while wearing a hot, sweaty, full body, white bunny suit, to run rampant across the Strand, rain or shine, with no rhyme, reason, or any idea of where we are going or where we will end up. All day long, he runs and we follow him from bar to bar to bar. This year, Dickie went through some serious surgery just weeks before the Bunny Run was scheduled to arrive, and we were worried that the Bunny wouldn’t make it. At one point, there were several alternate wabbits in the wings and a few

stand in stunt doubles, but then, with a spry wiggle of his cotton tail and magical grin stuffed between his giant, puffy ears, there he was. Dickie always appears as a real-life Gomez Adams, sporting a big ole Groucho Marx grin and clenching a stogie, while

pontificating the event. Around noon thirtyish, THE WABBIT suddenly appeared atop a platform ladder out front of Donny’s Dog House Saloon, where over 500 participants and more than 350 bikes had gathered. Dickie stood atop the ladder, mustered the troops, herded the squirrels, and suddenly we were off in a big bluster with a flash of pictures, lots of burning rubber, and miles of smiling, waving fans chasing the WABBIT down the #501 to God only knows where. If you’ve never experienced the wild abandon of riding with over 350 bikes in a mile-long parade and over 500 participants hitting the asphalt all at once, taking over the city, kicking up the sands and streets all along the Strand, then you’ve missed a bizarre ritual that rings in the Spring at the beaches of South Carolina! If you’ve never been, then you have got to schedule your ride on Easter Sunday next year. After Barnacle Bills, the roar of steel headed South to Suck, Bang, Blow for more shenanigans and a few butt slapping

laughs before heading back to Bubbas Bar & Grill, where the crowd overflowed into the parking lots, back lots, side lots, and created a spectacle worthy of notice to the beach crowd piling in along #544. Finally, it was time to head back to Donny’s Dog House Saloon for a toast to lost companions, family, friends, and legends. Speaking of legends, world famous Bean’re even showed up for this event. If you don’t know who that is, just Google Bean’re. If you don’t know how to Google, ask any 11-yearold to teach you the Interweb and look up The Carolinas Full Throttle Magazine to check the EVENTS tab and find your pictures in the mix. So, remember, if you want to find the fun, YOU GOTTA CHASE THE WABBIT! I want to also send out a HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THE STAFF for this event. Without you, we would just be standing around thirsty and hungry, while we wonder where we’re headed to next. You might find it hard to believe, but we never have any idea where any of us are headed, until we get there. God bless that Wabbit and all of you, who are legends, that showed up to bring in this year’s season. Be sure to tell your local wrenchers, bike shops, watering holes and hangouts about The Carolinas Full Throttle Magazine and get in the picture with us!

8th Annual CBA/ABATE Chili Cook-Off

By: Wally Wersching The Concerned Bikers Association/ABATE of Cleveland County held their 8th Annual Chili Cook-Off at the Shelby VFW Hall on March 17, 2018. The CBA/ABATE is an organization that promotes the biker image while enlightening bikers Everybody had a pot of legislation of chili cooking near that affects us all. ABATE their table. was started in 1972 for bikers to organize to fight against federal and state restrictions on motorcycling. In North Carolina, the CBA and ABATE have merged into one organization for the betterment of the biker community. The Cleveland County CBA/ABATE is trying very hard to keep the biker community informed. Clint, the president, and Haley, the vice-president, are working very hard together, and it shows in their organization and enthusiasm. The cook-off started at about noon. I arrived at the VFW Hall about 2:30PM. While parking “Miss Vickie” in front, the breeze carried the delicious aroma of chili cooking in back over the top of the building. As I walked around the back, I saw all the chili pots being watched by all the different cooks. This year’s competition was in memory of Amy “Shortie” Norris who was the chili champ in 2012 and 2013. All the cooks were cooking their special recipe for chili in hopes of getting their name engraved on the plaque with all the past winners. I talked with Smitty as he stirred and watched the chili in his pot. As we were talking, another cook offered Smitty some bright orange peppers to add to his chili. After tasting them, Smitty sliced one up, and added it to his concoction. That’s the way it is. All the cooks know each other well and are good

friends. I passed out some copies of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazines and put the rest on the CBA table with the other free stuff. I walked over to talk with Jerry. He was one of the first cooks at the event. He is a very interesting character. His normal derby hat was decorated by his wife, and it really looks different with the gears and goggles attached. The hat might make him look a little whimsical, but he really takes the chili competition seriously. They all want to win! Everybody had a pot of chili cooking near their table. It was really laid back. Everyone was enjoying themselves. They had been cooking their chili since noon. The judging would take place at 5 PM. I’m sure that the judges had a very hard time determining the winner. Scott Humphries was declared the winner. As I was walking back to “Miss Vickie”, a young woman walked up to me with a copy of “Full Throttle” in her hand. She asked if I wrote the article about “Remembering Roger”. After I said that I did, she thanked me for writing it, and gave me a very emotional hug. Her father served in Vietnam, and my story about Roger really touched her – she was crying. That was the first time that one of my stories got that type of reaction. The cook-off was a success, and I’ll definitely go back again next year. I will also keep an eye out for future CBA/ABATE events, so I can continue to enjoy the company of my new friends.

Motorcycle Awareness Ride By: Buzz Every spring more bikes hit the road. When the weather starts getting warmer, the roads become more frequented by bikers and it’s time to remind the cagers to be alert and look for motorcycles. Biker Trash Nation’s Wayne Pinnix called me up and pitched the idea of … it’s time to remind putting on a motorcycle the cagers to be alert awareness and look for motorride. That’s cycles. easy enough, anything we can do as a community to help the odds of our brothers and sisters making it home safely is worth the effort. So, we set a date of March 31st and put together an ad for the upcoming issue of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine with the addition of Smokin’ Harley-Davidson as a sponsor. When March 31 came around the weather was perfect, and 187 bikes filled the parking lot of Market Place Mall in

Winston-Salem, NC. There were seasoned riders, old friends, and even some who were on their first group ride. We were joined by 8 Winston-Salem motorcycle patrolmen. Wayne gathered everyone together for a few words, some instructions from Winston-Salem’s finest and then the rumble we all love filled the air.

The ride was a short jog over to Smoking Harley-Davidson where Brother Bill had set up vendors and a bike blessing. There was a piper on hand that played Amazing Grace on the bag pipes then Chad and Brandy of Xtreme Wings N Things (located above Smokin’ Harley-Davidson) starting slinging drinks and wings while the band played from the deck up at Xtreme. It was a really great day with friends and I’m sure that the line of 187 bikes roaring down the highway turned some heads and hopefully reminded those who saw us to “Look Twice And Save A Life”. While making motorists aware that motorcycles are everywhere is important, most of the burden still lies on us to look out for ourselves while we are out enjoying the roads of North and South Carolina. Keep your eyes open and ride safe.

5th Annual CCIB Bike And Car Show By: Wally Wersching On Saturday, March 31st, I planned go to the 5th Annual CCIB Bike And Car Show in Boiling Springs, NC after lunch. Cindy and I went out for lunch and after we finished our meal, we walked a couple blocks down Main Street to the Cleveland County Independent Bikers’ (CCIB) Bike And Car Show, and Hot Dog Cook-off. The event benefits the Cleveland Rutherford Kidney Association which assists kidney patients in Cleveland and Rutherford counties with all kinds of stuff like getting to and from their dialysis appointments or the doctor’s office, or even paying for their rent, utilities, and medication. It’s always a lot of fun for a good cause. Cindy and I were surprised to see Danny (our son) and his family. They had stopped in to have a hot dog lunch. Cara (Danny’s wife) was ready to deliver baby Hannah at any time. She was out walking trying to get Hannah to come. While Cindy and Cara were talking, Danny and I went to look at the cars, and mingle with old friends. There were a lot of custom and classic cars and bikes. There were more cars than ever before. The number of bikes was down because of another event in the area. The bike show had the usual Harleys, and custom bikes that all looked great. I stopped to talk with a few friends. I

hadn’t seen Chester (R’daar) for a long time. We used to work together a few lifetimes ago. We talked about getting the word out about the CCIB’s upcoming events. “Grumpy” was there, too. He’s had some health-related issues, so I haven’t seen him in a while. It was good to talk with him again. I had a stack of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazines to give away. I was going to place them on the registration table so anyone could get a copy. As I walked to the table, people were asking for a copy, so I only placed a short stack on the table. We met a few “Windjammers” at the event. The “Windjammers” is another motorcycle club based in Shelby. The CCIB and the “Windjammers” always support each other by attending the other’s events. Then we bumped into Smitty. I hadn’t seen him since the CBA/ABATE Chili Cook-off. He mentioned the Corn Hole tournament in the back. It looked like fun. All the proceeds would go to the Cleveland and Rutherford Kidney Association. There were some vendors selling various goods, too. Danny was getting restless, there were so many cars he wanted to see, and all we were doing was talking with my friends. The cars were parked around the edge of the large parking lot along with the center. The lot was just about full of cars and trucks. Danny was interested in some of the newer turbo high horsepower cars while I was more interested in the older unusual ones. There were all kinds of cars and trucks at the event. Someone brought their early 1950’s Chevy dump truck, another brought an original looking Ford Model A Roadster, and another brought a very unusual 1953 Buick two-door sedan. The Buick was sort-of a “Rat Rod”. It still had the original straight eight engine, and Dynaflow trans. The car looked interesting with the large new style wheels, but they still had the original drum brakes. I’ll bet that the car didn’t stop well. It wasn’t fixed up to be shiny new. Much of the outside rust was just cleared over to keep the old car look. The inside was patched with road signs. We used to do that back in Chicago when I was young to cover up the rust holes in the floors and trunk. It worked well. We stopped to visit with a few friends, and then it was time for Danny to take his family home. Cara was getting pretty tired. Baby Hannah waited another week before coming into this world. Cindy and I are now officially grandparents. Hannah is perfect weighing in at 7lbs 1oz, and 19” long. We can’t wait to spoil her!

“Welcome Home” Vietnam Veterans 2018 By: Wally Wersching Being a Vietnam War Veteran, I was looking for something local on the Vietnam War 50th Anniversary website: www. VietnamWar50th.com. Last year, there were many events on March 29th The Vietnam War honoring Vietnam veterVeterans Recognition ans. This year, I found one Act of 2017 designates locally - the free hot dog every March 29th as lunch from 11AM to 2PM National Vietnam War on March 22nd at Crestview Baptist Church in Veterans Day Shelby, NC. It was open to Vietnam veterans, and their families. In 2012, President Obama issued a proclamation to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War between May 28, 2012 and November 22, 2025. Last year, President Trump signed into law an act of Congress that honors Vietnam veterans with their own day of recognition. The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 designates every March 29th as National Vietnam War Veterans Day, and calls for the U.S. flag to be flown that day to honor those who served in Vietnam.

That was long overdue. The Vietnam War Veterans have been slighted for too many years. Now they have a special day each year that honors them. At about 11:30, I walked inside the Crestview Fellowship

Hall, and was greeted warmly by the women at the door. I was given a packet filled with info along with a commemorative pin. I was a little late, and there was a man talking. I missed a lot of the ceremony. The Crest High School Junior ROTC presented the Colors, Krista sang the National Anthem, Reverend Floyd gave the invocation, and Mr. Beck recited the Remembrance of the Missing Man Table – all before I arrived. There was a short ceremony to thank the veterans, and a plaque was presented to Joe Galloway, a special veteran who was a real hero in Vietnam. He worked as a reporter for UPI during the early part of Vietnam War in 1965. Thirty-three years later, he was decorated with the Bronze Star for helping to rescue a badly wounded soldier while under enemy fire on November 15, 1965, during the Battle of Ia Drang at Landing Zone X-Ray in Vietnam. As many people were getting their food, a veteran from Kings Mountain, NC stood, and recited the “Toast to the Flag” by John Jay Daly: Here’s to the red of itBeauteous view of it, There’s not a thread of it, Heavenly hue of it, No, nor a shred of it Star-spangled dew of it In all the spread of it Constant and true. From foot to head, States stand supreme for it, But heroes bled for it, Diadems gleam for it, Faced steel and lead for it, Liberty’s beam for it Precious blood shed for it, Brightens the Blue! Bathing it Red! Here’s to the whole of itHere’s to the white of itStars, stripes and pole of it, Thrilled by the sight of it, Body and Soul of it, Who knows the right of it O, and the roll of it, But feels the might of it Sun shining through; Through the day and night? Hearts in accord for it, Womanhood’s care for it, Swear by the sword for it, Made manhood dare for it, Thanking the Lord for it, Purity’s prayer for it Red, White and Blue! Keeps it so white! Here’s to the blue of it-

It was very inspiring. I had not heard it before. He said that every month he recites it at the Vietnam veterans’ get-together in Kings Mountain. There was a map of Vietnam, and many of the veterans were placing pins in the map to show where they were stationed during the war. I felt a little out of place because even though I served during the Vietnam War, I was never actually in Vietnam. We all did what was needed at the time. The Cleveland County Veterans Affairs along with a long list of contributors supplied a great hot dog/hamburger lunch with all the trimmings, including a table full of sweet desserts. Many of the men went back for seconds, and more. It was that good! While I was eating, I met a few other vets who were sitting near me. Everyone was very friendly. Most were wearing their Vietnam Veteran caps – some had patches on their clothes denoting the places they were stationed. I spoke to some friends, too. I stopped at the table of the Crest High School Junior ROTC. I know their leader. We talked for some time, and it was interesting to see young people in uniform surrounded by all of us old vets who have been out of uniform for so many years. They really looked sharp. I arrived home about 12:30 It was a great way to spend a patriotic lunch with a group of real American heroes.

A woman goes to the doctor, beaten black and blue. Doctor “What happened?” Woman: “Doctor, I don’t know what to do. Every time my husband comes home drunk he beats me to a pulp.” Doctor: “I have a really good solution for that. When your husband comes home drunk, just take a glass of sweet tea and start gargling with it. Just gargle and gargle.” Two weeks later the woman comes back to the doctor looking fresh and reborn. Woman: “Doctor, that was a brilliant idea! Every time my husband came home drunk, I gargled with sweet tea. I gargled and gargled, and nothing happened!” Doctor: “You see how keeping your mouth shut helps?”

“In Heaven,” replies Joe. “I have some good news and bad news.” “Tell me the good news first,” says Moe. “The good news,” Joe says “is that there’s baseball in Heaven. Better yet, all of our old buddies who died before us are here, too. Better than that, we’re all young again. Better still, it’s always spring time and it never rains or snows. But best of all, we play baseball all we want and we never get tired.” “That’s fantastic,” says Moe. “It’s beyond my wildest dreams! So, what’s the bad news”? “You’re pitching Tuesday.”

meeting, but you and your friend come on in and let’s have a cup of coffee first and catch up.” Well, the boss is very shaken by now but still not totally convinced. After they leave the White House grounds he expresses his doubts to Andre, who again implores him to name anyone else. “The Pope,” his boss replies. “Sure!” says Andre. “My folks are from Argentina, and I’ve known the Pope a long time.” So off they fly to Rome. Andre and his boss are assembled with the masses in Vatican Square when Andre says, “This will never work. I can’t catch the Pope’s eye among all these people. Tell you what, I know all the guards so let me just go upstairs and I’ll come out on the balcony with the Pope.” And he disappears into the crowd headed toward the Vatican. Sure enough, half an hour later Andre emerges with the Pope on the balcony, but by the time Andre returns, he finds that his boss has had a heart attack and is surrounded by paramedics. Working his way to his boss’s side, Andre asks him, “What happened?” His boss looks up and says, “I was doing fine until you and the Pope came out on the balcony and the man next to me said: “Who the hell is that on the balcony with Andre?”

One hot summer day, a blonde came to town with her dog, tied it under the shade of a tree, and headed into a restaurant for something cold to drink. Twenty minutes later, a policeman entered the restaurant and asked, “Who owns the dog tied under that tree outside?” The blonde said it was hers. “Your dog seems to be in heat”, the officer said. The blonde replied, “No way. She’s cool ‘cause she’s tied up under that shade tree”. The policeman said, “No! You don’t understand. Your dog needs to be bred.” “No way,” said the blonde. “My dog doesn’t need bread. She isn’t hungry ‘cause I fed her this mornin.” The exasperated policeman said, “NO! You don’t understand. Your dog wants to have sex!” The blonde looked at the cop and said, “Well, go ahead, I always wanted a police dog”.

Two 90-year-old men, Moe and Joe, have been friends all of their lives. When it’s clear that Joe is dying, Moe visits him every day. One day, Moe says, “Joe, we both loved baseball all our lives and we played minor league ball together for so many years. Please do me one favor. When you get to Heaven, somehow, you must let me know if there’s baseball there.” Joe looks up at Moe from his death bed,” Moe, you’ve been my best friend for many years. If it’s at all possible, I’ll do this favor for you.” Shortly after that, Joe passes on. At midnight, a couple of nights later, Moe is awakened from a sound sleep by a blinding flash of white light and a voice calling out to him,” Moe. Moe.” “Who is it”? asks Moe, sitting up suddenly. “Who is it”? “Moe, it’s me, Joe.” “You’re not Joe. Joe just died.” “I’m telling you, it’s me, Joe,” insists the voice.” “Joe! Where are you”?

A little girl asked her Mom, “Mom, may I take the dog for a walk around the block?” Mom replies, “No, because she is in heat.” “What’s that mean?” asked the child. “Go ask your father. I think he’s in the garage.” The little girl goes to the garage and says, “Dad, may I take Belle for a walk around the block? I asked Mom, but she said the dog was in heat, and to come to you.” Dad said, “Bring Belle over here.” Being old school, he took a rag, soaked it with a little gasoline, and dabbed the dog’s backside with it to disguise the scent, and said, “OK, you can go now, but keep Belle on the leash and only go one time round the block.” The little girl left and returned a few minutes later with no dog on the leash. Surprised, Dad asked, “Where’s Belle?” The little girl said, “She ran out of gas about halfway down the block, so another dog is pushing her home.” Andre was bragging to his boss one day. “You know, I know everyone there is to know. Just name someone, anyone, and I know them.” Tired of his boasting, his boss called his bluff. “OK, Andre how about George Clooney?” Andre replied: “Sure, yes, George and I are old friends, and I can prove it.” So, Andre and his boss fly out to Hollywood and knock on George Clooney’s door and sure enough, George Clooney shouts: “Andre! Great to see you! You and your friend come right in and join me for lunch!” Although impressed, Andre’s boss is still skeptical. After they leave Clooney’s house, he tells Andre that he thinks him knowing Clooney was just lucky. “No, no, just name anyone else,” Andre says. “President Trump,” his boss quickly retorts. “Yes,” Andre says, “I know him, let’s fly out to Washington.” And off they go. At the White House, Trump spots Andre on the tour and motions him and his boss over, saying, “Andre, what a surprise, I was just on my way to a

A cranky older woman “in her senior years” was arrested for shoplifting at a grocery store. She gave everyone a hard time, from the store manager to the security guard to the arresting officer who took her away. She complained and criticized everything and everyone throughout the process. When she appeared before the judge, the judge asked her what she had stolen from the store. The lady defiantly replied, “Just a stupid can of peaches you old fool.” The judge then asked why she had done it. She replied, “I was hungry and forgot to bring any cash to the store.” The judge asked how many peaches were in the can. She replied in a nasty tone, “Nine! But why do you care about that?” The judge answered patiently, “Well, ma’am, because I’m going to give you nine days in jail -- one day for each peach.” As the judge was about to drop his gavel, the lady’s long-suffering husband raised his hand slowly and asked if he might speak. The judge said, “Yes sir, what do you have to add?” The husband said meekly, “Your Honor, she also stole two cans of peas.”

Playing Games With The Lord

Bros and Bro-ettes, Satan loves when people are playing games. The one that doesn’t like you playing games is the Lord. You see, a lot of Satan’s work is going on every day, on the streets, our work place, and even in church. Have you ever gone to a biker event and just sat back and watched people? Women especially, running around half naked (some look good and some don’t), makes you think they don’t have mirrors or they wouldn’t come out dressed like that. If the Lord wanted us to run around naked He wouldn’t have made the Fig Tree. We set up at biker events and give out bibles and tracts and if anyone wants anything they can take it off the table. Some do, and some don’t. Satan don’t want them picking up a bible or tract. He would rather them go around carrying their beer. That makes Satan happy and they look cool. You know one day the game playing will be over for some and they’ll want to call on the Lord for help, but will it be too late? For some they may never have the chance to call on the Lord. Are you tired of playing games and want something better? Do you want what God promises? God’s promises are true today just like they were when He wrote them years ago. In order to receive the promises of God you have to receive Him.

Romans 13:11-14 11- And do this knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep, for now our salvation is nearer than we first believed. 12-The night is far spent the day is at hand, therefore let us cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light. 13-Let us walk properly as in the day not in revelry and drunkenness not in lewdness and lust not in strife and envy. 14-But put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provisions for the flesh, to fulfill its lust. Your friends may make fun and say stuff to you after you’re saved, but that’s OK. Satan will use everything he can and everyone to make fun of you and abuse you, but just remember, sooner or later everyone has to face the Lord Jesus Christ.

Dixie Drifters 1st Bike Night Of The Year By: Wally Wersching Recently the Dixie Drifters moved into a different clubhouse. The new place is much nicer than the old one. It’s larger and has a full kitchen for those catered events. It’s located at 4446 Chapel Grove Road in Gastonia, NC. It’s near the Crowders Mountain State Park and Golf Course. The nearby The weather was not roads are very cooperating though. twisty, and fun to ride on. They held their first Bike Night of the year on Saturday April 7th from 6 PM until. The weather was not cooperating though. It had been raining on and off all day. When I was getting ready to leave, the roads were starting to dry so I thought about riding “Miss Vickie”. When I opened the garage door, it was raining again so I drove my Chevy El Camino instead. I pulled into the large parking lot, and parked next to the other cars and trucks. There were only two bikes parked in front. It looked like their first Bike Night would be a little off. When I walked inside, I was cordially greeted by the club members. I had brought some stuff for their upcoming “Yard Sale” and laid it out on the pool table to show them. They liked all the different things along with the stack of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazines. We talked for some time. Then the band was setting up, and a couple of the women were playing pool. Neither one was very good, so their game lasted a very long time until one knocked in the “8” ball by mistake. They were having fun!

I walked outside to talk with the members for a while. It had stopped raining, but the clouds were threatening to open up any minute. At about 7:15, as I was planning to leave, I got a call on my cell phone which doesn’t happen too often. My wife, Cindy, said that Cara and Danny went to the hospital to have our first grandchild – Hannah. I was to hurry home so we could be with them. I said my good-byes, and headed home. The Dixie Drifters plan on having many bike nights throughout the year. Check out their Facebook Page or The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for the dates. They will be fun!

A Day For Clay Memorial Ride By: Beth Michaelsen March 17th may be a day for many to celebrate their Irish heritage, but for a few it was a day to remember a young man’s life. A Day For Clay Memorial Ride started at Dave’s Place in Pinehurst, NC. Friends, family, and the biker community came together to remember Clay Reid. There were over 80 bikes including a few bicyclists. The Reid family was overwhelmed by the fellowship and support from the biker community. All the proceeds went to a funeral fund to help with the costs of funeral expenses. While the motorcycles went on the police escorted poker run, the community kept coming to Dave’s Place to show their support. There was great food and beverages and the atmosphere was wonderful. The community donated several items that were auctioned off in a silent auction and a Chinese auction. There were door prizes, best and worst hand on the poker run, baked good sale, and even face painting for the young ones. Not only was this a memorial ride but it was also a ride to raise awareness regarding the increasing death rate among young adults. Going to memorial rides is not rare for most of

us, but to go to one for someone so young was very sobering. I’m glad to see that the community is showing so much support to this family in their time of need.

2018 Double D Burnout Saloon Spring Bash

By: Rose and Lloyd April 7th was original date for this year’s Double D Burnout Saloon Spring Bash. However, the weather didn’t cooperate, so it was moved to April 14th. This is Double D’s big party to start off the Spring riding season. Saturday Saturday was a was a perperfect spring fect spring day. The day. weather was beautiful. I think all the bikers itching to ride came out to celebrate. The front parking lot and back yard was packed with at least 100 bikes. The Biker Trash Nation was there to play some games and award prizes to the winners. Dog Daze entertained the crowd, while everyone enjoyed a good selection of food, shirts, jewelry, patches, and leather venders. One game was Mr. and Mrs. Biker, a biker couple

We saw a lot of a large number of new friends and people we have missed over the winter. Some came all the way from Virginia! Everyone was enjoying the beautiful weather, seeing and catching up with friends. As always, Missy and David Thompson were the perfect hosts. A big shout out to the bartenders, and bar backs. With as large as crowd was I never heard one complaint about waiting for a cold beverage. A very special Thank you to all the biker family that came out to enjoy the music, fun, drinking, and seeing all theirs other members of the biker family. So, the season has begun.
