What a bang-up September we had, reminiscent of precovid days, with all the rallies that happened. It was great, from the mountains to the coast and good riding weather, too. As we are writing this, the Outer Banks Bike Fest is winding down and Myrtle Beach Fall Rally is cranking up. Catch up with reports on as many of these events as we could cram in October, spilling over into the November issue, we’ll keep you posted. Check out photos from these events at: www. FullThrottleMagazine.com. All hail October – the Month Of Mayhem is finally here and we have got an outstanding line-up for this biker party, Mayhem In Midway, October 15 -16. It all begins with a FREE keg party at 5pm Friday evening on the 15th, sponsored by Bob Karney, the Carolinas’ Biker Lawyer. Then Saturday, the gates open at 10am and for $10 entry, be ready for the best day you’ve ever had!! There will be a plethora of vendors, live bands, bike games with cash prizes, a bike show with cash prizes, and the Ms. Mayhem contest. All these facets of Mayhem are sponsored by our benefactors: Tom McGrath Motorcycle Law Group, Smokin’ Harley-Davidson, Jaybird’s Custom Cycles, The Rebel Spirit, Big City Thunder, Blue Collar Cycle Company, and Bob Karney Carolinas’ Biker Lawyer. Check out the Mayhem in Midway tab on our website: www.FullThrottleMagazine. com for location and details. At Mayhem, we’ll be pulling the winning raffle ticket on the magnificent chopper built by Pandemonium Performance that was featured on our September cover, with proceeds going to the Salisbury VA Hospital Hospice Unit. In addition, Bob Karney will be announcing the winners in the Bulldog Hero program where the cash prizes go to the charity of choice of the Heroes. So, Mayhem has a purpose beyond all the fun and games. Fun and games, you mean the burn-out contest and the loud pipes competition? Holy cow! Come on out to the Field Of Mayhem, 185 Dusty Drive, Lexington NC, off Zimmerman Rd. and join the party. We’ll have collectible event t-shirts, food trucks, and if you need to, there will be primitive camping available. Check out the Cruisin’ Calendar in this issue, (and online), there are plenty of events for the avid rider. How about Haunted Hills ride, Rumble At The Depot bike & car show, Fall Bash At Lucky’s, Forgotten Sons MC chili cook-off, SC’s Helmet Law Support Rally, Cox’s HD 60th Anniversary Bash & Motorcycles For Mammograms, Jim McClure Nitro World Finals at the Rock, Bikers With Boxes, Rumble Through The Tunnels, a variety of charity rides, and then the Halloween events at the end of October! Take you pick, get out there with your brothers and sisters and enjoy the fall so you have tales to tell this winter. And make no mistake, the toy runs are already posting their dates, so get ready. Above all, ride safe and we’ll see you out there.

THIS SHOW IS DEDICATED TO TERRY BROWN & FAMILY

A loyal CBA member & Brother, Past President Charlotte Chapter, Bike Show Director, State Constitution Interpreter, Member of BoozeFighters M/C, Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grand-Father, Great Grand-Father, Best Friend, And my Brother from another Mother! Ride In Peace! With much Love and Sorrow, Rick & Myra

WELCOME BACK MY FRIENDS TO THE SHOW THAT NEVER ENDS…. WE’RE SO GLAD YOU COULD ATTEND, COME INSIDE, COME INSIDE……. It is finally fall and time for the Concerned Bikers Association Fall Bike Show & Swap Meet. Our show has been going on for 49 years thanks to all of you fine folks supporting us. This show is always on or near Veterans Day. We will be recognizing our Vets on Saturday and Sunday with the playing of our National Anthem. This ain’t a t-shirt show, folks. It is a real swap meet and bike show put on by real bikers. Our members work hard to put on a good show for your enjoyment. If you’ve been to one of our shows, you know there will be a building full of beautiful show bikes to look at. There will be 2 buildings and a barn and a giant outdoor midway full of vendors. Come early if you want to find those antique parts you’ve been looking for. You can find something that you want or need…from a new set of tins, a new front end, tires, a rolling chassis, engines, transmissions, or a new complete motorcycle. You can find biker jewelry, leathers, boots, t-shirts. You name it, it will be there including food and beverage. Remember that Christmas won’t be too far behind so shop for Santa. There will be 2 bands playing all day for your listening pleasure. The bike show will have trophies and a $1,000 People’s Choice Award which will be awarded on Sunday afternoon. We will be open both days from 10am-6pm. Admission is $15 for one day or $25 for the weekend. We will be offering 2 admissions for the price of one Sunday morn-

ing from 10 am to noon. We have a new event going on at this show. Barbie Car Races. If you haven’t seen grown women or men riding a Barbie Car, well you don’t know what you are missing. We’ll have races both days with a grudge race Saturday between Lincoln Infield from Full Throttle Magazine, driving a Full Throttle Disney sleigh racing against our CBA Lobbyist Tyler Styles, a Lawyer with Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group. Grab your kid’s Barbie Car, broken I hope… and knock the gears out of it or race one of ours. Do you have the guts to do it? I guarantee you a lot of fun whether you are watching or racing. Please remember NO PETS will be admitted to our show! We want to remind you that when you attend our show, or any CBA event across the State, all the money stays in North Carolina and is used to promote our sport and lifestyle and to be your eyes and voice in Raleigh and Washington, DC. We try to keep you informed of legislation that affects us as Bikers. We talk to legislators and let them know how we feel. We fight against some legislation and help introduce some favorable legislation, also. You need CBA and CBA needs you. We need a united motorcycle organization to have more impact with the Legislators. Remember, “United we stand….Divided we fall”. Join our/your organization now! We will be having a membership drive at our show. You can join Charlotte

AMRA Harley Drags Back At Bristol Story By Alan Dockery Photos By Moto Lenz Mike Davis & Alan Dockery t’s been a few years since Harley Drag Bikes shook the mountains around Bristol, Tennessee. So, fans were thrilled when the American Motorcycle Racing Association Thunder Valley Nitro Nationals brought them back the middle of August. Action on the strip was hotter than the air in the valley. Saturday was tough on teams. Folks were trying to get bikes to run in the heat and altitude and hook up on a hot track. It was tough on team members too, as some needed medical attention to deal with the heat. But oh man, did the Harley drag racers put on a good show for the fans. Qualifying is some folks’ favorite day since everybody runs hard trying to make the field and qualify at the top of the ladder. Chris Smith is a Tennessee racer I’ve watched since he was

Tii Tharpe and Jay Turner

on a B&S powered Junior Dragster many years ago. Now he rides Red Rhea’s Top Fuel Harley and is always a contender for the win. Well, Chris gave folks the big scare of the weekend when putting more than 1,000 horsepower to the strip through that giant sticky rear tire the drive chain broke. Usually chains just lay down on the track and the bike slows to a stop. This time it wrapped around the rear sprocket and tried to beat the back of the motorcycle apart. What racers and fans saw was the bike bouncing and smoking as Chris managed to hold on. Thankfully Chris was OK. But that pretty drag bike was on display showing how much damage a big chain can do. Top Fuel Harleys are incredible machines to watch run. From the warm-up in the pits to the massively smoky burnout to the more than 200 mile an hour passes in six seconds they are thrilling to watch. Some of the best in the country were at Bristol. North Carolina teams made up half of the eight-bike field. Tracy Kile, Asheville, qualified second, then started sending the rest of the field to the trailer. His win in the final round was real popular with the fans. Oh, and a bunch of folks from Asheville, The Porch People, were there to cheer Tracy down the strip. “This win is huge for Bad Apple Racing,” said Tracy Kile, owner, and rider. “This is hard and the competition is killer. Any time you win in Top Fuel it’s a big deal. Bristol is like a home track for us since it’s not far away. I have a ton of friends and customers from my business in Asheville, The Fairview Tavern, who came to support us and winning in front them is a big deal.” Bad Apple Racing ain’t a big well-funded team with many sponsors. So, it’s cool to see a favorite team of many Carolinas Harley Drags Fans win a big race. Tracy has been at this for 21 years now and has a knack for making things work on a budget. I think he is still using some primary belts he bought years ago from Ray Price

with only a few passes on them. Tii Tharpe, Pfafftown, NC; Jay Turner, Julian, NC and Mike Beland, Maiden, NC, gave us some local favorites to cheer for in Top Fuel. In Pro Mod, Richard Boone, Mint Hill, NC, was our man. Seth Locklear, Pembroke, NC; Ryland Mason, Carolina Beach, NC and Chris Wood, Goldsboro, NC competed in Pro Dresser. Mike Best, Cary, NC, is back on the drag strip running the 9.90 Index Super Gas Class. Ryland Mason also ran in SG. Out of the 28 machines in the 11.50 Index Street Eliminator, the only guy representing the Carolinas was Richard Stamey, Wilmington, NC. Cody Hayworth, Concord, NC, and Rick Medford, Cherokee, NC, qualified in the 10.50 Index Pro Eliminator Class. Gregg Quinn, Fountain, NC, was the only other Carolina racer to log a win. Gregg qualified his bad ass blown bagger number one in the 10.30 Super Pro Class then took the win. The American Motorcycle Racing Association brings Harley smoke, fire, and thunder to The Rock this month. Y’all Harley Drags fans need to be at Rockingham Dragway October 1517 for the 30th Annual Jim McClure Memorial Nitro World Finals featuring the Ray Price Top Fuel Challenge.

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine 23rd Anniversary Bike Night – In Memory Of Mark Infield 23 years in the making takes careful planning and a month’s worth of dedicated attention. But that’s not how we did it. Y’all, this magazine keeps us busy 7 days a week and when it comes to our own bike nights it’s almost a free for all. Yeah, we gotta make sure to get the word out in the magazine, buy some beer and invite some vendors. But the actual event comes together about 20 minutes before we expect folks to show up. That’s ok, sometimes you can really over plan an event and let’s face it, bikers ain’t the greatest rule followers. Ya see, my folks, Mark and Molly Infield delivered the very first Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine in August of 1998, or what I like to call the late 1900’s. Through their dedication, hard work and the support of the biker community The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine has recorded 277 (this issue makes 279) consecutive months of the history of motorcycling in North and South Carolina. So, on August 20th, 2021, we set out to celebrate our 23rd anniversary in print with a bike night at our office in Jamestown, NC. Shannon & Dexter Rights brought the Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group crew and set up with the Chrome Angles to give away FREE Hotdogs! Dexter is an expert dog roller and had the masses fed in no time. The Chrome Angelz oversaw serving them up and taking donations for the East Stokes County Outreach Ministry, for whom they raised $250 that evening. We had Birdie set up sewing on patches and selling an array of biker stuff. Preacher Cecil with The First Biker Church of America was set up and ready to tell the good news of Jesus Christ to the folks who stopped by his tent. Lucas Infield, my brother, was set up with his tattoo studio, Ink Lab Tattoo from Kernersville, NC. Luke had his portfolio out and was talking ink ideas and taking appointments. We also had Zach and Kristin from The Rebel Spirit set up with all their custom motorcycle parts keeping custom motorcycles a reality in the 2020’s. Sadly we lost Mark Infield on July 2, 2021, and the bike night turned into an “In Memory Of” event to celebrate his life and dedication to the motorcycle community and the anniversary of his work. We started the event with a moment of silence and our drinks held high in honor of his memory. We continued the event playing some of Dad’s favorite songs bike night that is

and were determined to give him a great party. Like many of the past bike nights we had at least a 40% chance of rain, but a good crowd of bikers rolled in to help us celebrate. We cranked up the music and rolled out a cooler full of FREE Beer for our friends to enjoy. The Pandemonium Performance Custom Cycles crew came out and brought their amazing chopper that is being raffled off to benefit the Salisbury VA Hospital Hospice Unit. Kary and his crew always show up to support us and we certainly appreciate it. The Chopper looks great and we sold a couple tickets to folks who want to ride off on that bike when we give it away at Mayhem In Midway on October 16. We partied hard and ran through 10 cases of beer and 100+ hotdogs during the night. We also had a Best Bike On The Lot that we handed out to ‘FastLane’. He rode in on a super clean, super rare Harley-Davidson XR1000. Seriously, you don’t ever see a motorcycle like this roll in, it was awesome and unlike anything else on the lot that day. We gave ‘FastLane’ a $50 bill and gave him the mic to give us a rundown of his bike. The only thing left was a little bit chinese sky candy to finish off this celebration. I got my demolition crew together had Mom (Molly) throw on Jimi Hendrix’s Star-Spangled Banner from his Woodstock 1969 album and we lit up the sky. A huge thanks to all the vendors who showed up, all our friends that rode in and for the local LEO’s for not coming! We had one hell of an evening and it was a great way to celebrate the 23rd Anniversary of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and to remember Mark Infield’s legacy. Mom and I have taken up the reigns in Dad’s absence and are dedicated to continuing his vision. We will see you all out at the Field of Mayhem on October 16 for Mayhem in Midway.

Southern Cruisers Riding Club

Holds Rally In Seneca, SC

By: Bill Gallaway

August 5th of 2021, motorcycle enthusiasts arrived in Seneca, SC at the Quality Inn of Seneca for a weekend of fun and fellowship and to raise funds for a worthy cause. The purpose is to raise money for St. Jude’s Hospital, where all the funds received go directly to the research hospital and not to administrative expenses. The rally, held yearly, moves from Chapter to Chapter. There are 11 Chapters in South Carolina. The organization is worldwide and has over 35,000 members. The event was held at the Quality Inn of Seneca and had over 100 participants. The riders that arrived on Thursday had the opportunity to attend the free weekly Jazz on The Alley event held on Ram-Cat-Alley in downtown Seneca. I counted over 70 bikes parked up and down Townville St., with others parked randomly wherever they could find space. The weather was beautiful for the concert, sunny with a slight breeze, low humidity, and temperatures in the high 70’s. Friday turned out to be another pleasant day for riding and many took off the for the mountains. The Friday ride took riders to Bryson City, NC for a Mexican lunch at Guayabitos Restaurant. Saturday was good riding in the first part of the day, but some may have gotten caught in the afternoon pop-up showers which we have quite often. I only visited the event on Thursday evening, Friday around lunch and again on Saturday morning, so I cannot comment on how the games worked out. If anything, the games got rained out on Saturday afternoon and allowed the bikers to relax and get some fellowship time in before heading home on Sunday. Everyone I had the pleasure to talk with was pleasant and helpful. I talked with some couples from North Carolina and Tennessee, so not everyone was a local rider. I am going to follow this local riding club closely and maybe in the future I’ll be riding with them. n the weekend beginning

11th Annual Shriners Hospitals For Children Benefit

By: Karen Hatchet Photos: Rose & Lloyd

D Burnout Saloon in Kernersville NC was the place to be on August 21st. The 11th Annual Shriners Hospitals For Children Benefit took over the backyard in preparation for a fun and successful day. The day was hot, but despite the heat, a good time was had by all, raising money for the Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville, SC. The day began with the smell of shoulders cooking on the grill, vendors setting up, live music, and many volunteers ready to do whatever it took to raise money to help the children. This benefit started back in 2010, with a ride with 60 bikes, raising $1,500. Each year the amount raised has increased by adding large raffle items. In 2019, Bobby Ellis (aka Golf Cart Bobby) and his wife Missie, came up with an idea of building a custom golf cart to raffle. This was such a success, in 2020 we raffled a 7X14 enclosed tandem trailer and this year we had 2-gun raffles. A whopping $15,000 was raised for the hospital at the 11th Annual Benefit this year. Over the past 11 years, you guys have raised over $96,000 to help crippled children walk and burned children heal. Many auction items and raffle prizes were donated. BBQ plates with all the fixings were sold for $10 a plate. Thanks to Butch Medders, and his crew for staying up all night cooking the shoulders and serving all. The food was out of this world, as always. This year there was no ride, but a bike show was added for the best bike there. The winner went home with a trophy and bragging ouble

rights. The winner also won all registration money but gave it back. Thank you to Tony King (aka Maddog) for judging the show. Congratulations to the winner. Also added was a donation bucket created by Cindy Welborn, collecting close to $1,000! Two bands provided live music, Sammy Turner and The Dirty South Band and Blackwater, rocked the outside stage. Bidding wars for auction items, and the excitement of the raffle winners always makes it a great time. Six guns were given away for the “big” raffle item this year. Winning tickets were sold at Double D Burnout Saloon, Xtreme Wings & Things, LDI (Lawndale Drive In), and Eden Block Party. The winning ticket of the beautiful Shriners Edition Henry Boy Rifle was sold at The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Bike Night, (sorry Lincoln it was not your ticket). Congratulations to all the winners! Many thanks to all who came out to volunteer and support this cause. There would be no success without participation and help from all the volunteers. The biker community has backed this benefit over the years. Special thank you to The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine for promoting this event and continuing to support benefits and events in the NC and SC area, and to Rose and Lloyd Luquer for always capturing great pictures. Bikers are amazing people. As I remember the very first benefit held, another benefit ride had just left the first stop. Not many showed up for the other benefit and we were asked if our riders could help by purchasing a raffle ticket for a TV. All riders for the Shriners

Hospital lined up to buy a ticket to help the other benefit. This is what bikers do! They help in any way they can. Makes a person proud to be a part of such a great family. 19th Annual Thunder In The Smokies Fall Rally

By: WildThing

19th Annual Thunder In The Smokies Fall Rally took place on the weekend of September 10-12, 2021 at the Maggie Valley Festival Grounds. Apparently, there are plenty of bikers just like me who missed this rally that was cancelled in the demise that was 2020. The promoter, Chris Anthony did a masterful job putting back together this popular rally considering the whims of the government, apt to change things at any given moment. Friday, as the gates opened, the bikes roared in and the party was on. Even though there were no planned activities Friday afternoon, the crowd that gathered enjoyed traipsing around to check out the vendors, enjoy a cold beverage, and sharing their riding tales. The Ali Randolph Band took the stage at 7:30 and rocked the valley for two hours until Lee Newton’s turn. The concerts are sponsored by Smoky Mountain Indian in Waynesville NC and Huff Oil Group of Fayetteville NC. he

The weather for the whole weekend was absolutely perfect for riding in the mountains. Dry! Cool and crisp in the mornings, warm and sunny all day long, then cooling off and dewy in the evening. I’m sure all the riders on the Saturday Tour Ride that left from Thunder In The Smokies appreciated the comfortable temps. Saturday Thunder In The Smokies gets into high gear. About the time the riders are returning from their tour, the bike show area is filling up with all manner of motorcycles, truly from mild to wild. The Bike Show is sponsored by Cartel Baggers of Maggie Valley and the prize money is highly sought after. This fall, there were forty machines to choose from. The winners are determined by Peoples’ Choice. Everyone coming through the gates Saturday morning are given a ticket and asked to choose their favorite bike by placing their ticket in the upturned helmet beside the front tire of the show bike. This isn’t a long drawn out affair, either, the bikes roll in around noon, and Chris and his girls are counting tickets by one pm. Third place and $200 went to Chris Devall from Greenville SC for his 2010 bagger he constructed from four motorcycles, he said. Second place and $300 went to Junior Ayers from Stoneville NC for his ‘early 90’s’ FLH chopper. Really cool! The big one – first place went to Julie Skidmore from Crouse NC for her custom painted 2016 HD FreeWheeler. The bike games were next on the agenda at the Handlebar Corral, and promised and as much fun for the spectators as the participants. Many of the spectators brought their own chairs and made a huge circle around the playing field as the traditional games commenced: weinie bite, slow race, the stuffed animal trap, and the toilet paper and plunger game. The games were sponsored by Iron Horse Motorcycle Law Group and was earned by getting the most points compiled from all

the games. The third place couple must have been in a hurry because they were long gone to get their $$. Second place was won by Roger and Jennifer from Mountain Rest SC and first place competitors were Mikey and Heather from Cleveland GA. Special thanks to the Freedom Biker Church folks from Greenville SC who have helped run the games with Chris for the past several years. The Vietnam Veterans Chapter 980 held a 50/50 at Thunder In The Smokies and this year’s raffle totaled $1519, and the winning ticket for the split of $760 was won by Jerry Marshall who kept $100 and gave the rest back to the Vets. The funds they raise stays local and is a special help to needy children at Christmas. The evening line-up for the concerts started off with Ali Randolph Band at 7:30. Then the schedule called for The Dettenators at 9:30, with special guest, Jody Medford, a crowd

favorite. It was a perfect evening with bikes rolling back into the festival grounds after a supper run, with folks still visiting the vendors and the music playing in the background. The weekend rounded off on Sunday with a pancake breakfast sponsored by the CMA and a church service with Freedom Biker Church in the morning and vendors open until 3pm for those who didn’t get enough Friday and Saturday! What a great weekend, and be sure to make plans for the spring rally 2022! See you there.

HAMC Memorial Party By: Chi

Angels Motorcycle Club, Fayetteville NC Chapter hosted the HAMC Memorial Party on Saturday September 4th, 2021. The memorial was in honor of their beloved and departed brothers, Lou, Craig, and Dan. These bikers will live on in all the memories, good stories, and good times shared with so many. The memorial party surrounded by a new mural to commemorate Dan. His memorial piece adorned, front and center, Dan’s Memorial Bike. The party was all about honor and memories. A video slideshow played honoring Lou, Craig, and Dan. Their bikes were on display to remember all their amazing rides! The bikes were standing there as if they were animated; standing at attention waiting on their rider to kick that stand up! Their Angel Wings riding all around us in each story shared, every memory we recalled, and all the smiles that followed the slideshows and pictures. It was a great day for festivities and so many members of the biker community were present. Everyone in attendance to show their support for Team 81 and to remember and honor those Red & White Angels; that were always dedicated to the biker cause and the biker community. There was an amazing display of respect, honor, and community in this day’s events. This Memorial added to the ells

numerous community efforts that are put forth by Hells Angels MC Fayetteville NC. They are adamant about community support and fundraisers that benefit the community at large. They continue to provide support and regular participation with Shriners Children’s Hospital as well as other local community fundraisers and events. In addition to taking any part in uplifting the biker community, unity, brotherhood/sisterhood, and last but not least the love and enjoyment of the open road. The Hells Angels MC Fayetteville Chapter extend their “thanks to all that attended the FNC annual memorial event. We had a great turn out and a lot of fun was had by all. Thank you all for the sincere display of friendship and unity here in the Fayetteville motorcycle club community.

The CBar arolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Newest Biker In NC - Smokey’s Grand Opening

By: Lincoln Infield veryone has their favorite spot to hang out and

chances are that place has been around for a while and may even be the local mecca for you and your crew. Well, it’s time to check out the newest watering hole in North Carolina: Smokey’s. In the sleepy little town of Rural Hall, north of Winston-Salem, Smokey’s isn’t far away from anything but just far enough away to be a good ride. On Labor Day weekend, owner Sean Powers opened the doors of Smokey’s to the public and solidified his biker bar as

part of the Saturday riding loop. Smokey’s is located at 8160 Depot St. in Rural Hall, a little side street separated from the main road giving the bar a laid-back feeling and easy roadside or bayside parking. On Saturday, September 4th, I rolled into town and pulled up at the same time as a group of riders I knew from around the area. We piled into the bar and Megan was serving up the coldest beer around. The bar is so new that Sean was still putting up the TV and putting finishing touches on the bar room. Smokey’s is broken up into 3 rooms, the main bar room, the game room and extra drinking room. The back yard has a semi covered concrete patio, nice sized lawn leading back to the railroad tracks. It’s just a cool place to hang out and bikers were in and out of the bar all day long. Sean has a lot of plans for the newest biker bar in NC and has nightly attractions including Wine Down Wednesday, Savage Saturdays, and Funday Sunday. Make sure to keep your eye on their ad and the Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for upcoming events but you don’t have to wait, put some miles on that bike and head over to Smokeys in Rural Hall. You won’t regret it.

4th Annual Cherokee Blue Ridge Run Has It All By: Lincoln Infield hat do you get when you combine

the best riding in North Carolina, a pile of awesome bands, stunt shows, 4 bike shows, flat track racing and hundreds of bikers? A hell of a good time called the Cherokee Blue Ridge Run. Spanning September 10-12, The 4th Annual Cherokee Blue Ridge Run, in beautiful Cherokee, NC, scratched an itch that’s been bother’n me for quite a while. I’d been to a hundred events so far this year and don’t get me wrong, there were some really stellar events. But something about the clean mountain air, curvy mountain roads and seriously cool motorcycles came together in a perfect storm of biker awesomeness that I was glad to be a part of. Live Music I dunno about y’all, but the music can make or break a great event. You always want to hear something new when you go to a big event like the Blue Ridge Run, but you still want to get into the groove with tunes that you are familiar with. The Blue Ridge Run nailed this ever-important factor of bike rallies by piling in 10 bands in 3 days. Not just the local bands of the area, but real quality tribute bands that rocked the days away. Iron Maiden tribute band Piece of Mind kicked off the rally on Friday morning followed by Tuesday’s Gone who belted out some killer Lynyrd Skynyrd tunes. Van Halen fans were in for a treat with “84” hitting the stage before the complete Black Sabbath experience “Sabbath” shut the first night of the rally down. Ya wanna know the crazy part? This was only the first day of the rally! Saturday’s music menu included, Poisonous Crue, The Wildflowers (Tom Petty Tribute), Michael Allman, Thunder Jack and then Jasmine Cain brought the house down! All these stellar bands at a big

ol ride in, biker concert. I’m telling y’all, if you only came up to catch some killer live music, then you certainly got your money’s worth. But this was only background noise when you got caught up in the rest of the going ons. Bike Shows Looking for bike shows? Yeah, the Blue Ridge Run has got you covered. There were three bike shows going on Saturday alone. Not to mention the Born To Ride Choppertown Live event that showcased some wicked choppers Friday-Sunday. Dave Perewitz was in town to put on his Perewitz Paint Show that gathered some of the areas wildest paint jobs. Dave is a super dude and makes time to talk to his fans, you’d never know this guy is a world-famous bike painter. The line-up of custom paint in his show was amazing. Among the awards handed out, Rodney Landreth out of one of our local shops Twin City Cycles (Lexington, NC) took home the Best Use Of Color award and walked away with a hand painted trophy. The AMCA Legends Chapter put on a people’s choice antique motorcycle show just past the Perewitz show. Lemme tell ya, there were Knuckles, Shovels, Pans and even some Flatty’s sittin’ around making it hard to vote for your favorite bike. When the votes were counted, another local NC rider, took home 1st Place People’s Choice with an heirloom flat head Harley-Davidson. Born To Ride bike show was raging in between the other two bike shows with a large showing of choppers, antiques, and just plain cool motorcycles. These bikes were piled into the corner of the event grounds, but that didn’t take away for the fact that this was the epicenter of the party for an hour or so. Photo shoots for all the winners went around the bike show area and the ceremony ended with all the participants firing up their bikes, offering some noise to the chopper gods. Chopper Town Live as before mentioned was a showcase

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine stage and the motorcycle parking, they were performing high flying stunts that were dropping jaws all over the ceremonial grounds. They had to be 60 feet in the air coming off their seats, doing flips and stuff that lets you know they are totally crazy. They also had a ball of death that willing participants stood inside while they rode the walls around them. At one point they had 3 ladies in the ball with them pushing the envelope and pleasing the crowds. The ladies made it out of the ball with nothing less than a high adrenaline experience. It was great. The other end of the midway was the American Motor Drome Company with their vintage “Wall Of Death” thrill show, featuring vintage Harleys and antique Indian motorcycles. This is by far the coolest thing you will ever experience in your life. I don’t care how many times I’ve seen it before; it makes the hair on my arms stand up and slap a permanent smile on my face. Riding side saddle,

inside a lovely, air-conditioned building that served as refuge from the mid-day sun as well. Man, there were some really sweet chops in this building including some bitchin Triumph choppers that were recreated from old David Mann art by Jeremy Weems. The majority of the bikes in this exhibit were set up in a circle in the middle of the floor making it easy to cruise around the room taking them all in. Our friends from The Rebel Spirit were set up in this show case as well with a few tables of truly custom parts and their CB750 chopper “Boogie Nights” that has been touring all the east coast chopper shows. They ended up taking home a couple awards but Panhead Frank took home top honors with his gorgeous, molded frame Triumph chopper “Endless Summer” that was just right from front to back and all points in between. no hands, and snatching dollar bills from the enthralled crowd, these motorcycle heroes are keeping a tradition alive, traveling the nation putting on shows and wowing crowds young and old. I love watching peoples’ faces when the first time a wall of death rider brings their bike up to the red line at the top of the barrel. The vibration of the bike going around the wooden slats vibrates into your soul and you will never be the same. Hobo Billy, Miss Corinna and Lightning Jay put on multiple shows a day, it was truly awesome. Flat Track Racing

Stunt Shows Motorcycles bring along with them intriguing element of danger but there are some that take that to an extreme. The Ives Brothers brought their stunt show to the Cherokee Blue Ridge Run and kept the crowd in awe. In between the sound

Most of the long standing, classic motorcycle rallies were built around motorcycle racing. The Blue Ridge Run is making sure to carry on this tradition with a Saturday evening treat of flat track racing. Just a quarter mile down from the main event a sweet little dirt track sat waiting to be run on. Practice started at 3pm and the races started at 6pm. Starting out with mini-bikes and youth riders and moving up to Sportsters and full-size race bikes, the track was packed with onlookers and racing fans. The racers were sliding through the

turns and keeping us all on the edge of our seats. It was a great addition to an already stellar rally. It was just the right amount of racing. The short heats kept the racing tight and exciting. Imagine packing all this into a rally and then throw in some vendors and a packed festival ground with motorcycles coming and going. Food vendors, tattoo artists, and just plain good times. Then just think that this doesn’t even include the fantastic mountain riding that the area offers. I haven’t even mentioned the world class Harrah’s Cherokee Casino that is just down the road from this rally. Seriously, the Blue Ridge Run has it all and I can’t wait to go back next year.

Harley Drags Back At The Farm

Story and photos by Alan Dockery t’s been a long time since there was a real sanctioned Harley Drags at Farmington Dragway in North Carolina. This famous old drag strip is one of several in Western NC and was packed with fans the last Saturday in August. The All Harley World Shootout was at the track for the third race of the Summer series. AHWS events are managed by Paul Watson of Lumbee Racing and put on a great show for Harley drags fans. He also partnered with The All Harley Drag Racing Association which puts on major national races. Bill Rowe, AHDRA Boss, was at Farmington with the AHDRA trailer and helping in a few ways. I even saw him suited up and racing that V-Rod. Paul and Branon White of Mad Monkey Racing put on a fun weekend at the drag strip for fans and racers. Besides thundering Harleys roaring down the strip, there was much more to entertain folks at The Farm. Fans could shop vendors or walk the pits talking to race teams. There were plenty of vendors there with all the cool things bikers need. Besides motorcycles, there was a bunch of custom cars and trucks on display too.

Tilley Harley-Davidson, Statesville, had a nice big setup in the staging lanes. I saw several of the Tilley family members and employees at Farmington. Love those folks and their friendly family-owned dealership. The Tilleys have a long racing history since Don Tilley was famous for building Harleys that whupped the rest of the world in several types of racing for many years. One of his race bike riders, Tripp Nobles, came up from Georgia to drag race. In the back corner, BackYard Baggers Joey Hensley held a Custom Bike show and a Sound Competition contest with multiple class winners. It is facinating to see the custom baggers gathered back there. And the power plus sound quality that some can generate is impressive. Joey is also doing a series for the winners for a cool Championship Belt. The Big Loud Baggers came out of the corner to the starting line for their final elimination round to pick the winner. Oh Man, those are $100,000 motorcycles with I reckon 20,000 watts of music blasting power. The All Harley World Shootout is about racing and action on the strip went until nearly Midnight both Friday and Saturday nights. Friday was just test and tune and grudge match racing. Bring your quick bike, maybe bet a little and have fun. Saturday the AHWS gets busy and is an all-day party at the drag strip for bikers. As the Riders’ Meeting wound down, Paul and Branon unveiled a new banner to promote the AHWS races. This one recognizes Andy Simon, who rides the undisputed quickest Pro Extreme Bagger on the planet. Folks come to the starting line when Andy and his son Andy Jr. bring that pretty red machine down front. But when you make lots of power you also break things. After a few passes I think the transmission just couldn’t take anymore. A few rounds of qualifying and it was time for eliminations and see who would be holding the belts in the Winner’s Circle. To beat the heat, eliminations got in gear about the

time the sun got lower. Ken Koby won the Chopperman Classic Championship also sponsored by CycleDrag and Lumbee Racing. Ed Hayes won the Tilley H-D Street ET Championship. Nathan Thayer won the Revolution Performance Pro ET Championship also sponsored by Biker Trash Nation, The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and Springers Bar. Billy Leonard rode one of the coolest street and race bikes at Farmington. He did the body work building those stretched bags and fender matching his longer swingarm. Billy won the Scarlette’s Performance Extreme Bagger Championship also sponsored by Pat’s Body Shop and Towing, GMS Racing and Simon Motorsports. Paul Uricchio won the Impex Auto Sales Pro Bagger Championship also sponsored by Impex GMC Chevrolet Buick Auto Sales, Bison Leathers, Xtreme Machines and Dragbike.com. Perry Paugh won the Law Tigers Bagger ET Championship also sponsored by Wood Cycles of Goldsboro, Double D Burnout Saloon, Arnolds Restaurant and Ride and Shine of Greensboro We also ran The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Minibike Madness third race at Famington. More machines are coming to the strip. Guys are building bikes to fit our classes. Harley racers are getting into the Minibike Class. Folks are coming from far away too. Nathan Ogiba won both the Super Stock and Modified Small Block classes. Carl Wilson won Pro Extreme. “All Harley World Shootout fans I want to say thank you. It was a long and hot day Saturday at the legendary Farmington Dragway, but it was rewarding with the magnitude of spectators we had,” Paul Watson said. “Sandy Collins, the GM of the track, had Farmington on point and the racers raved about track conditions even with the heat. Special thanks to Law Tigers and Jerry Spencer for being our title sponsor all year.” “We also want to thank Derek and Donna Tilley of Tilley Harley-Davidson for being our Event sponsor. This was an honor to have them be our event host. Mr. Don Tilley was a legend in the Harley racing world and Mad Monkey, and I wanted to make sure our fans knew this. Another ‘Thank You’ goes to Sandy Scarlette for being a multiple sponsor of the AHWS. She owns Scarlette’s Performance and Pats Body Shop in Winston Salem. She is a very special person and a pillar in the community, and we appreciate her support.” “First time ever but a big thanks to Impex Auto Sales of Greensboro and Impex GMC, Chevrolet, and Buick of Reidsville. Car Dealerships sponsoring our Harley race. Wow!!! Thanks to all 57 sponsors for their continued support of the AHWS at Farmington Dragway and throughout the season,”

37

Paul said. “Joey Hensley, owner of BackYard Baggers, wowed and amazed the fans as always with his audio and custom bike show. BYB is a big part of the AHWS, and I look forward to many years with Joey and his team. Bill Rowe, owner of the AHDRA, was there racing as usual and getting some me time in and we appreciate his support as always. Big things happening next year with the AHDRA and the AHWS.” “Branon White and I want to give our biggest ‘Thank You” to all the racers who came out and supported us. This race was the best race I have witnessed all year because you could cut the tension among the racers with a knife. The Carolina Full Throttle Magazine Mini Bikes series were the crowd favorites for sure. Ricky Kentrolis was a huge help in getting this program off to a good start and we appreciate his professionalism and technical input. The series will be back next year for sure at every AHWS event. From Mad Monkey and Lumbee Racing we will see you next year and thank you again for your continued support of The All Harley World Shootout.” Paul concluded.

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine

By: Wally Wersching n September 4th, the Gastonia chapter of the Guardians of the Children (GOC) held their 1st Annual Car and Bike Show at the Family Pizzagalli restaurant on Gastonia Highway in Bessemer City, NC from noon ‘til 4:00PM. The weather was perfect – sunny with temps in the 80’s. There were awards for the “Dirtiest Car/Bike”, “Best Engine Compartment”, “Best Paint”, “Best Helmet”, “Mr. & Mrs. Showoff”, “Kids Choice”, along with “Best of Show”. I asked my wife, Cindy, if she would like to go, and she said yes. So, we left home at about noon heading east on Rt 74. We exited at Rt 161 and turned left. We followed the road through Bessemer City and continued toward Gastonia. The Family Pizzagalli was on the left. We arrived at about 12:30 and were surprised to see so many cars and bikes already at the show. I dropped off a few Full Throttle magazines at the registration table, and then started to walk around. The first person I saw was “Cuzz”. We walked over to him, and I introduced him to Cindy. They had never met. He walked up to her and gave her a giant squeezy hug. She didn’t know what to do. I forgot to warn her that “Cuzz” likes to hug people. After talking with him for a few minutes, we continued walking around looking at the cars. There was a good mix of outstanding cars, trucks, and bikes. We watched as some of the owners were wiping the dust off their cars as we walked by. The show was very diversified – from an AC Cobra replica to a 1946 Ford Dallas Fire Truck. There was a heavily modified Jeep pick-up truck that would

GOC 1st Annual Car And Bike Show probably rattle your fillings if you rode in it. There was very little suspension on it. When we walked past the bikes, we saw “Red’s” celebrity bike – the one on this year’s Bob Karney calendar for the month of June. He rides it a lot, and it still looks great! There were so many cars that the show spilled over to the adjacent Ingles parking lot. There were almost as many in that lot as in the Pizzagalli lot. One that caught our eye was a huge bright red 1966 Cadillac DeVille convertible. The 60’s was when the Cadillac was one of the largest cars on the road. They were real land cruisers. The one at the show was flawless. It’s very difficult to maintain the paint on such a big car, but on this car, there were no swirl marks or imperfections in the paint. As we were standing near the Cadillac, we heard another car parking in a row behind the Cadillac. It had a very distinct rumble. It sounded very healthy, and loud. Cindy liked it so we walked over to take a look at the car. It was a street rod pick-up truck with side pipes without any baffles. We talked to the owner for a while. He sells insurance, and by having his name on the side of the truck, he writes off any repairs on his taxes as advertising. I thought that was pretty smart. After a short while, we left heading back home. It was a great way to raise money to stop child abuse.

Pandemonium Performance Custom Cycles Shop Ride

By: Lincoln Infield

hen you work in the motorcycle industry,

sometimes you spend more time around other people’s motorcycles than you do getting to ride your own. This fact makes purpose riding a reality. Kary Blaylock of Pandemonium Performance schedules a shop ride every year for the last Saturday of August to make sure that he and his crew and customers get a chance to put on some miles together. It’s important to set the tools down for a day and just enjoy the camaraderie of the road and get away from the grind for a couple hours. This year the ride fell on August 28 and it was one hell of a nice day to go riding. It was scheduled to leave around 9am, but those who have been on Kary’s shop rides before knew that the ride wouldn’t leave til about 10 am. It was all good as it gave us all a chance to meet, catch up, and bs for a little while. The kickstands went up at 10am and we set off for a good ‘ol backroads ride up to Murrow Mountain State Park in Albemarle, NC. We rolled in and headed up the hill and parked at the top of the mountain. It’s a popular spot and there were a ton of other motorcycles there, but we got a great spot to park and check out the view. We hung out for half an hour or so before heading out. We wound back down the mountain and continued eating up a few miles to Salisbury where we stopped in at Woodleaf Lanes to drain a few pitchers and see if anyone could throw a strike. It was a great time with a great group of folks. If you are looking for a great group of mechanics in a local shop. Check out Pandemonium Performance Custom Cycles. They can take care of your routine maintenance, engine upgrades or full customization of your ride. Drop by and check ‘em out and put the last Saturday of August on your calendar to ride with Pandemonium in 2022

Fear Or Faith? All you hear about these days is Covid, and you need to get the shot. What happened to Freedom of Speech? Covid is something serious, it’s not to be played around with. Look at all the people who have died, even some that has had the shot. I’m not saying they died because they had the shot, I don’t know. I’m not so sure that having the shot is the answer. What we need to do, is really do some heavy thinking and praying about it. My opinion it should be up to the individual. No one should make you take it or tell you you’ll lose your job. Look at all the places that have closed or cut back on hours because they don’t have enough workers now, so why keep threatening someone? We need to put our trust in Jesus Christ and not in some vaccine. Need to read the book of Revelations and it will tell you exactly what is happening and what will happen. Psalm 91: 1-16. (1) He who dwells (home) in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. (2) I will say if the Lord, He is my (yourself) refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust. (3) Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler, And from the perilous pestilence. (4) He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and bucket. (5) You shall not be afraid of the terror

by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day. (6) Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. (7) A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand: But it shall not come near you. (8) Only with your eyes you look And see the reward of the wicked. (9) Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High your dwelling place, (10) No evil shall befall you, Nor shall plague come near your dwelling. (11) For He shall give His Angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways (12) In their hands shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. (13) You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot. (14) Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. (15) He shall call upon Me and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him, (16) With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation. Now the decision is up to you, live in fear or put your trust in Jesus.

In His Wind, Ms. Pat

The Carolinas’ FullCounty Throttle M agazine 19th Annual Catawba Shriners Run

Story & Photo By Alan Dockery ummers sure seem to go by fast when you enjoy

motorcycles. Late summer is busy with so many rides and places to visit. Some may be longtime favorites and signal summer winding down. I remember nineteen years ago, when several of us started a local charity ride and picked the Shriners to raise some money for. Now, the Shrine Club manages the ride with Dennis and Terry Grigg as coordinators. It was good to see they got the ride back in high gear this year after all the Rona mess. I’ve been on all those rides for a great cause. Supporting the Oasis Shrine Temple, the ride raises money for Shriners Children’s Hospitals. What a nice Mid-September Sunday afternoon we had, to ride on the 19th Annual Catawba County Shrine Club’s Dice Run. Dennis laid out a local route with stops in Catawba, Burke, and Lincoln Counties. As folks rolled in from the afternoon ride, the Newton, NC, Shrine Club parking lot filled with bikers. While folks turned

in their hands, the Shriners served all the riders and volunteers some real good BBQ and fixins. Outside, DJ “Doc Hollywood” Crump entertained folks. Dennis ended the day with a bunch of good door prizes after folks finished eating and were relaxing with a cold beverage. He thanked the folks who showed up to support the 19th Annual Shriners Run and everyone that helped. And we all thanked the T-Shirt advertisers and local companies that provided gift certificates and other door prizes. The winners were: Best Roll $500 - Diana Cook; 2nd Best $250 - Billy Ray; 3rd Best $150 - Bobby Herman; and Worst Roll $100 - Jeff Hunter.

The Carolinas’ FullLight Throttle Magazine 5th Annual Travlin’ Steeplechase

By: Wally Wersching

Saturday the 21st of August when I noticed a listing on the Full Throttle Crusin Calendar. It was an early event at the Catawba Heights Baptist Church in Belmont, NC called the 5th Annual Travlin’ Light Steeplechase. I also saw it posted on the Driven by Grace Biker Ministry’s Facebook page. I hadn’t seen any of the Driven by Grace group since before the pandemic – almost 2 years. I liked the early start because the ride to Belmont would be cool, and Cindy and I had already made plans for Saturday afternoon. I had never been to the Catawba Heights Baptist Church so I looked it up on-line and wrote down the directions. I am not familiar with Belmont. I don’t usually go east from Shelby because it’s too congested. On Saturday, I woke up early – at 6:00am. I showered, shaved, walked the dog, and had breakfast, so I could leave at 7:00, heading east to Belmont. Registration for the event started at 8:00am with the kickstands up at 8:45. Before leaving Shelby, I stopped for gas, then I was on my way directly into the blinding low morning sun on Rt 74. I didn’t realize that I’d be heading into the low morning sun. It was so bright that I couldn’t see at times, and the other times it was painful to try to see over the windshield. My helmet visor helped some but the 45-minute ride to Belmont couldn’t have been over quick enough. It was cool though, and comfortable that way. I followed my directions to find the church but when I did, it wasn’t there! The on-line directions sent me to 311 Belmont Road which was a factory. After riding around the block, a couple times looking for any signs of the church, I stopped a man walking his dog, and asked him where the church was. Instead of being at 311 Belmont Road, it was at 311 BelmontMt Holly Road. Using the man’s directions, I found it easily. When I arrived, I noticed that it was a very large church with beautifully manicured lawns. I parked “Miss Vickie” with the few bikes parked in front of the church in the “Motorcycle Parking” area. I brought a stack of Full Throttle magazines to the registration table and started talking with the young lady sitting there. I learned that everything on the ride was free. They had coffee and biscuits for breakfast before the ride, and food afterwards. They were very organized. The ride would leave on time and go to several churches. Finally, at 2:35PM, the ride would arrive back at the Catawba Heights Baptist Church, after almost was looking for someplace to go on

6 hours and 84 miles. There would be music, food, door prizes, and finally giving away 5-$100 gift cards. They had a schedule for every stop so that they’d be back to Catawba Heights on time. I talked with the young lady for a long time and learned a lot about the Catawba Heights Travlin’ Light Ministry. They have events scheduled throughout the year. Every month there’s a Lunch Ride & Rolling Prayer, they also have a Diaper Run in October, and they ride to the Bikers with Boxes, also in October. They end the year with the Gaston County Toy Run in Ranlo, NC. They are a very active and dedicated group. More and more bikers rolled in and parked. I met some of the Driven by Grace Biker Ministry. It was good to see old

friends again. A couple of the Guardians of the Children – Gastonia Chapter were there too. As people were congregating around the registration table for the pre-ride prayer, a group of bikers rolled in. There were two Victory motorcycles in the group – a Magnum and a Cross-Country. The Magnum is a beautiful bike with what looks like custom paint. I didn’t get to talk to the riders because the pre-ride prayer just started. After the prayer by R.J., there was some talk about the routes, and then they were off to their bikes for the ride. The police escort was waiting for the ride to start. Once it started, it didn’t take long before all the bikes were out of the parking area, and on their way to the Lincolnton Church of God. I called Cindy to let her know I was on my way home, and then I left back tracking to I-85, Rt 74, and Shelby. It wasn’t as cool as before but the sun was at my back. It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

9th Annual Walkin’ Roll Fundraiser And Dice Run

Story and photo by Alan Dockery

August we had for the 9th Annual Walkin’ Roll Fundraiser and Dice Run in Hickory, NC. Yeah by afternoon it was the usual hot and muggy, but the hundreds of folks who turned out that Saturday were proud to support such a great cause. The ride started at The Boxcar Grille in Claremont and ended at the Hickory Motor Speedway. The Speedway may be the new ending place as it worked out well. Lots of room for folks to park and hang out. Besides bikers and lots of motorcycles on the ride, cages were welcome too. The local Dune Buggy Club turned out to support Walkin’ Roll. Several folks drove their hot rod cars and trucks too. And since we were at the speedway … folks had to take some laps. With police as the pace cars, the local Shriner Gator Patrol lead the way for participants making laps around the famous Hickory Motor Speedway. A most impressive hat a pretty day in the middle of

feat, were the laps made by members of the Ainsley’s Angels group. They were pushing kids in special running wheelchairs for laps. Sherrill and Shannon Baxter, Duane Gibbs and a core group of friends have organized an event to raise money for the Walkin’ Roll Activities League, Inc, for nine years. They are a non-profit providing free activities for children and adults with developmental disabilities. This year’s ride brings the nineyear total to more than $160,000 raised. “Our league is a league of abilities, not disabilities. Our purpose is to provide quality activities in a fun atmosphere and develop each player’s potential to the fullest,” said Sharon Barlow, Director. As the afternoon wound down, folks got plates of BBQ made by David & Ann Dellinger of the Maintenance Company and cold beverages to enjoy under the big tent. In August ya gotta have shade. But on the stage trailer out in the sun was local band Dice. Blake and the boys were cranking out familiar tunes all afternoon for folks. Thomas Commer, Hickory, won the best roll. Some guy who I only got as Roger had the worst roll. Leslie Stewart, Newton, won the 50/55 Drawing. “There are lots of folks to thank for making this year’s Walkin’ Roll Fundraiser happen,” Sherrill said. “Thanks to all the volunteers and riders who made the ride a success. Special thanks to our major sponsors, Mike Johnson Toyota, David and Ann Dellinger of The Maintenance Company, and the DICE Band, who rocked it out! Also special thanks to Lunnie Bollinger and the dune buggy drivers for being there. The L-R– Duane Gibbs, Diana Perry, Sharon Barlow, Shannon & Sherrill Baxter and Sergeant Eddie Marlowe

Shriner Gator Patrol, thanks guys and I hope to see y’all again next year! A very special thanks to John Workman! We had a fine assortment of cars and trucks, from a Dodge Viper, a Lotus and Lamborghini, to a 1930 Ford pickup. We had about 80 vehicles to drive our participants around the track. All these people made a special effort to donate their time and money to help the folks who benefit from Walkin’ Roll activities.” “I have a special thank you to Skip Moser and the Hickory Motor Speedway. I am blessed to have partnered with them to host this and our future Walkin’ Roll Annual Fundraisers and I am looking forward to working with them to make this fundraiser even more exciting. Who knows what’s next? A flyin high THANK YOU to Keith Wells, our drone pilot and producer of the event videos that ya’ll just have to check out! They are super cool.” “We exceeded this year’s budget and raised $12,634.00. We sold over 500 hands, had over a hundred motorcycles and approximately 450 people attended. All monies raised will pay for a year of activities. Thank you all, again. I am humbled by your support,” Sherrill said. 13th Annual Jace Man Run By: Wally Wersching

his year’s

Jace Man Run started with a breakfast fundraiser on Saturday July 10th, then a spaghetti dinner fundraiser was held on Friday July 23rd. Both were just teasers for the main event. On Friday, August 27th and Saturday August 28th, The Cleveland County Independent Bikers (CCIB) and the Concerned Bikers Association (CBA/A.B.A.T.E.) of Cleveland County sponsored the 13th Annual Jace Man Run at CCIB’s Land at 1596 Racepath Church Road in Mooresboro, NC. All proceeds went to the Abuse Prevention Council (APC) to help stop child abuse in Cleveland County. This year’s Jace Man Run was bigger than ever with live music – Skyndeep on Friday night, and Peace Pipe on Saturday night. Saturday had the poker run in the morning, and starting at 3:00PM had a live auction, 50/50 drawing, bike games, door prizes, food, and more. The Poker Run on Saturday had groups leaving the CCIB Land at 10:00AM and 11:00AM. Individuals could start the run at any time with the last bike in by 2:00PM. The stops on the run were: 1st - The Shelby VFW on Sumter Street in Shelby, 2nd – The Vintage Dog in Boiling Springs, 3rd The Windjammers’ Club House on Nalley Drive in Shelby, 4th - The CCIB Clubhouse on Washburn Switch Road in Shelby, and 5th - the last card back at CCIB’s Land in Mooresboro. The ride was fairly short this year because of the heat. It was going to be in the mid to upper 90’s by the afternoon. It all started in August of 2007 when Wendy Panther’s five-month-old nephew Jace fell victim to abuse and lost his life. Wendy and her husband Spanky created the Jace Man Run to raise money for the Abuse Prevention Council (APC). When she was only 51 years old, Wendy died in a home accident. She loved children and was dedicated to raise money to put an end to child abuse. This year’s Jace Man Run was dedicated to her memory. I participated in the breakfast and spaghetti dinner fundraisers and enjoyed the delicious food and camaraderie. On Saturday, the 28th, I arrived a little after 9:00AM, and was one of the first bikes there. Members of the CCIB were

getting ready for the arrival of other bikers to their event. The weather was sunny and cool - perfect for the morning ride. They were expecting a large crowd for the run. After a while, Grumpy rode in on his Harley FXR. We talked for a while we were waiting for the other bikers to ride in. Then, Tracy and her husband rode in. Tracy owns the Flyin’ Pig BBQ restaurant across for the Shelby Airport. It’s good to see her out enjoying herself instead of working all the time. I brought some magazines to where they were getting ready for the live auction. Spanky was emptying a box of items for the auction. There were a couple leather jackets, four leather vests, a couple helmets, and a few Harley chrome accessories in the box. It looked like someone was getting out of motorcycling and donated all his stuff to the auction. Everything was in great condition too! A large group of bikers from many of the local biker ministries rode in. They were all talking and laughing as they signed the waiver. Then they walked to the tent to get their sheets to record their winning hand. I talked with a few friends but we didn’t have a lot of time to talk. Everybody was getting ready to leave on the 10:00AM run. They lined up to go as a group. The motorcycles were shining in the morning sun, and the silence was now a mighty roar of the bikes’ exhaust. Within a minute or two, in a cloud of dust, they were all off on their way to the first stop. Overall, there were over a hundred who participated in the actual Jace Man Run but there were many more who contributed. It was a team effort of everybody working together that made it what it was. $13,397.00 was collected and donated to the APC this year. They are already planning for next year’s run which will be bigger and better than this years’.

Back The Blue Ride Back The Blue Ride Raises More Than $12k For Children In Richmond, Scotland Counties Story and photos by William R. Toler - Richmond Observer OCKINGHAM — Children in Richmond and Scotland counties will have a better Christmas this year thanks to local bikers. More than $12,000 raised during the second annual Back the Blue Ride on Saturday, Aug. 21 will be split between the Rockingham, Hamlet and Laurinburg police departments and the sheriffs’ offices in Richmond and Scotland counties to use for their shop-with-a-cop programs. Riders on nearly 190 bikes — including a few trikes — participated in the ride organized by Chris Jackson, a 24-year veteran patrol officer with the Laurinburg Police Department. The first event, held in September of 2020, drew more than 200 riders and was free. This year, there was a $20 fee for bikes and other vehicles in the convoy. Many of the riders met and left from Jerry’s Deli in Laurinburg and headed to the Hide-A-Way Tavern north of Rockingham to meet up with others before going back to the starting

point. Congressman Dan Bishop, who stopped by to speak at last year’s ride, joined the bikers for the entire route. Before leaving the Hide-A-Way, Bishop once again addressed the crowd from the PA system of a SCSO patrol car, saying he was “honored to be back.” “You know, I spend a lot of time in Washington … and I don’t think there’s a lot of common sense in Washington, but I know there’s a lot of common sense right here,” Bishop said, to a short applause. “You’re sending a message that will be understood around this community, around this state, around this country. The dumbest thing I’ve ever heard in my life is political figures trying to undermine support for law enforcement. “If anybody ever thought defunding police, abolishing police forces, was a great political message, it qualifies as the stupidest idea in the history of American politics,” Bishop continued. “But you folks understand that. People with good common sense know that’s ridiculous.” Bishop said it wasn’t just a one- or two-time ride, but the participants were standing up for law enforcement. Several of the riders displayed the “thin blue line” from their bikes, while others wore T-shirts supporting police. “Momentum is building, and you guys are the repository of common sense and you’re bringing that message back to the American people — and we’re just getting started,” Bishop said. “We’re going to stand up for law enforcement, for first responders, for the men and women in our United States military. We’re gonna support ‘em, we’re going to restore common sense in this nation.” Bishop wasn’t the only politician participating.

Richmond County Commissioner Toni Maples joined the ride along with her husband, Chris, a Navy veteran who formerly worked for Bishop. “Our officers are extremely important to our community and whenever something happens we’re the first ones to call them,” she said, adding that it was also important to help provide for local children who may not even know if they’ll have a home on Christmas. After leaving the Hide-A-Way, the convoy headed toward downtown Rockingham, driving by the home of the late Sheriff James Clemmons — who was honored with a ride the week before — then all the law enforcement agencies of the two counties. Once back in Laurinburg, the riders were joined by Sen. Tom McInnis, R-Richmond, N.C. Court of Appeals Judge Jeff Carpenter and Scotland County Sheriff Ralph Kersey — who rolled in on a motor scooter. The RCSO held its first Shop with a Deputy event last December, helping around four dozen children. Rockingham’s program started its program several years earlier. The Hamlet Police Department, for the past several years, has been helping individual families with presents for the kids and supplies for the home. Laurinburg PD and SCSO both began their programs in 2015.

Long Road - The Moveable Party By: Mike Allen

Hemingway called his life in 1920’s Paris a “moveable feast.” If Ernest had been riding with us on the 13th Long Road, he may have described it as a “moveable party.” This year’s 45 riders would definitely raise a glass in agreement. Long Road 13 was nicknamed “double tap” due to the two night stay at each stop of this year’s “gypsy style” ride. This isn’t an overly organized, kickstands up at a specific time, kind of ride. We meet up at chosen campgrounds at each stop and ride with as few or as many others we feel like. There’s a suggested route that we generally stick to but it’s not required. Our tradition is for new riders to check in with the organizer of the ride at each stop and they receive the highly coveted Long Road Medallion at the end of the week. The Long Road Medallion award ceremony was again hosted by the Shipwash family at “The Rebel Spirit” motorcycle shop in Thomasville, NC. The Rebel Spirit houses the massive red bar-height table from the notorious fortress-of-fun at Smokeout, “The Long Road Lounge.” Nine new riders earned the medallion this year. The Rebel Spirit is within perfect riding-have-a-couple-ofbeers distance from Planet Chopper’s Roadhouse in Woodlawn, Virginia. Last year, we spent the whole week at Planet Chopper because the riding in each direction is great and there wasn’t any chance of being canceled by COVID. We picked Planet Chopper for our last stop this year for exactly these same reasons. The first stop of this year’s Long Road was setup for July 24-25 in Ovid, NY, in the Finger Lakes. Due to the numerous vineyards, breweries, and distilleries in the area, we decided this was a perfect target rich environment to start a ride with rnest

“double tap” in its name. Many of us made our way to Wagner Vineyards for some live music and to enjoy what the brewery had to offer. Monday morning, with no rain in sight and great roads through New York and central Pennsylvania, we were off to historic Gettysburg, PA. Long Road had stopped in Gettysburg a few years ago, so some of us were familiar with the sights and were looking forward to spending more time there on this trip. Wednesday, gave us another dry day of riding, so we could enjoy more Civil War sites in Maryland and Virginia before we arrived at Revelle’s River Resort near Bowden, West-byGod-Virginia. On the second day in WV, a small group of us took a side trip through Parsons, WV and caught the only rain of the week. We pulled under the shelter of a closed motel to put on some rain gear and ended up spending a few hours dealing with an electrical problem that killed off the fourth battery of Long Road 13. We eventually returned to camp where the stories and liquor flowed into the early morning hours. The next morning, we had another sunny day of riding in West Virginia and Virginia on our way to Planet Chopper in Woodlawn, Virginia. A few of us had a “return to paper maps” moment when their GPS took them to a place called Woodlawn near Washington, DC. They did make it to the correct Woodlawn well before midnight, turning a 250-mile ride into about 600. Well, it IS called Long Road! When we all met up at Planet Chopper, it was like coming home. The Devonshire family had obviously been busy since our stay there last year. Additional camp space had been added to the cleared acreage behind the roadhouse. A well-lit trail between the roadhouse and the new space surely prevented some

impaired wandering through the woods that night. Saturday’s Long Road agenda included attendance to Mark Infield’s Celebration Of Life Ride in High Point, NC, before we made our way to The Rebel Spirit. After the newest riders were awarded their Long Road medallions, we had a few beers with the Shipwash family and checked out the latest creations

of the highly skilled Zach Shipwash. The last leg of the trip was the return to Planet Chopper for a spectacular catered dinner and more cheer around the bonfires while we discussed ideas for next year’s ride. Keep an eye on Full Throttle Carolinas’ events pages for info on next year’s ride.

Honoring Many At Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson By: Chi

Bragg Harley-Davidson spent last month honoring many. Community support, that hometown feeling, and patriotism can all be found at Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson. The month began with the Lumbee Recognition Day, an awesome turnout. Everyone wanted their pictures taken with the Princesses. There were several amazing cookouts. You can always expect the grill to be going at a Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson event. Bikini bike wash one weekend and Slow Motionz car wash, the next. The Infidels MC coordinated and led the annual 9/11 Never Forget Run. It’s an amazing sight, the ride and patriotism. The evening concluded by Fayetteville Speedway with the Infidels hosting the All Veterans Parachute Team for the annual “Night Pyro Parachute Demonstration Jump.” All the bikes in attendance, headlights on of course. The motorcycle lights formed a perfect circle which became the jump target. These veterans descended from the sky like the superheroes they are. It was an honor to witness their majestic display of skill. There was an overwhelming sense of pride and patriotism that took place on this 20th Anniversary of 9/11. We surely will never forget! Rolling Thunder Ride was held towards the end of the month. This ride in remembrance of all those soldiers missing in action, firefighters, police officers and EMS workers that ort

gave of themselves in our time of crisis. These honors and all the respect that goes along with it, paid in full by heroes of our great nation. With pride, we celebrate these noble individuals, their selfless acts, and courageous deeds. We will continue to remember and celebrate our beloved fellow Americans. Spokes & Jokes

66 The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! At our house we call it “pickin” and it is symbolic of your acceptance in the group. We live in the United States Of The Offended, so get over it!!

“Boy, you’ve been tellin’ me the truth. Let’s see if we can see the Lord...?” Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence, yet were still unable to see anything. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of the Lord. At last, they heard, “One for you, one for me. That’s all. Now let’s go get those nuts by the fence and we’ll be done....” They say the old man had the lead for a good half-mile before the kid on the bike passed him. A man had a bunch of penguins in his truck, when suddenly a police officer came and asked him what was in the truck, the man said, “My penguins,” The police said to take the penguins to the zoo. The next day, the police officer came back asking where the penguins were. The man said, “They’re in my truck. The police officer replied, “I thought I told you to take them to the zoo,” “I did,” replied the man, ‘’Today I’m taking them to the beach.”

A nun, badly needing to use the restroom, walked into a local Hooters. The place was hopping with music and loud conversation and every once in a while, ‘the lights would turn off.” Each time the lights would go out, the place would erupt into cheers. However, when the revelers saw the nun, the room went dead silent. She walked up to the bartender, and asked, “May I please use the restroom?” The bartender replied, “Ok, but I should warn you that there is a statue of a naked man in there wearing only a fig leaf.” “Well, in that case, I’ll just look the other way,” said the nun. So, the bartender showed the nun to the back of the restaurant. After a few minutes, she came back out, and the whole place stopped just long enough to give the nun a loud round of applause. She went to the bartender and said, “Sir, I don’t understand. Why did they applaud for me just because I went to the restroom?” “Well, now they know you are one of us,” said the bartender, “would you like a drink?” “No thank you, but I still don’t understand,” said the puzzled nun. “You see,” laughed the bartender, “every time someone lifts the fig leaf on that statue, the lights go out. Now, how about that drink?”

Three vampires walk into a nice, dark, dive bar. The bartender looks at them a little sideways but decides to serve them anyway. “What’ll it be, boys?” The first vampire says, “I’ll have a Blood!” The second vampire says, “Mehh, I’ll also have a Blood.” The third vampire says, “I’m watching my figure, I just want plasma.” The Bartender smiles and says, “Got it. Two Bloods, and a Blood-Light.” A guy walks into a bar and orders a beer. “Last night my wife crawled into bed with me and told me she’d do anything for a new cashmere sweater,” the guy says. “So, I asked, ‘Anything?’ nudge, nudge, wink, wink, and she replied “ANYTHING!’” “Wow!” the bartender replies. “What did you do?” “I told her to learn how to knit.”

On the outskirts of a small town, there was a big, old pecan tree just inside the cemetery fence. One day, two boys filled up a bucketful of nuts and sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began dividing the nuts. “One for you, one for me, one for you, one for me,” said one boy. Several dropped and rolled down toward the fence. Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, “One for you, one for me, one for you, one for me ....” He just knew what it was. He jumped back on his bike and rode off. Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along. “Come here quick,” said the boy, “You won’t believe what I heard! Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls!” The man said, “Beat it kid, can’t you see it’s hard for me to walk.” When the boy insisted though, the man hobbled slowly to the cemetery. Standing by the fence they heard, “One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me.” The old man whispered,

U.S. Steel, feeling it was time for a shakeup, hired a new CEO. The new boss was determined to rid the company of all slackers. On a tour of the facilities, the CEO noticed a guy leaning against a wall. The room was full of workers and he wanted to let them know that he meant business. He asked the guy, “How much money do you make a week?” A little surprised, the young man looked at him and said, “I make $400 a week. Why?” The CEO said, “Wait right here.” He walked back to his office, came back in two minutes, and handed the guy $1,600 in cash and said, “Here’s four weeks’ pay. Now GET OUT and don’t come back.” Feeling pretty good about himself, the CEO looked around the room and asked, “Does anyone want to tell me what that goof-ball did here?” From across the room a voice said, “Pizza delivery guy from Domino’s.” “Oh, Mom,” she replied, “the honeymoon was wonderful. So romantic...” Then Elaine burst out crying. “But, Mom, as soon as we returned home, Rupert started using the ghastliest language... saying things I’ve never heard before! I mean, all these awful 4-letter words! You’ve got to come get me and take me home.... Please Mom.” “Calm down, Elaine,” said her mother, “Tell me, what could be so awful? What 4-letter words?” Still sobbing, Elaine whispered, “Oh, Mom...words like dust, wash, cook, and iron.”

The day after his mother-in-law disappeared in a kayaking accident, a Twillingate, Newfoundland man answered his door to find two grim-faced RCMP officers. “We’re sorry Mr. Flynn, but we have some information about your motherin-law,” said one of the officers. “Tell me! Did you find her?!” Cedric Flynn asked. The Mounties looked at each other. One said, “We have some bad news, some good news, and some really great news. Which would you like to hear first?” Fearing the worst, Mr. Flynn said, “Give me the bad news first.” The RCMP officer said, “I’m sorry to tell you, sir, but this morning we found your mother-in-law’s body in the bay.” “Lord sufferin’ Jaysus!” exclaimed Flynn. Swallowing hard, he asked, “What could possibly be the good news?” The officer continued, “When we pulled her up, she had 12 of the best-looking Atlantic lobsters that you have ever seen clinging to her. Haven’t seen lobsters like that since the 1960’s, and we feel you are entitled to a share in the catch.” Stunned, Mr. Flynn demanded, “If that’s the good news, then what’s the great news?” The officer replied, “We’re gonna pull her up again tomorrow.”
