ctober is the month of mAYhem! mAYhem in miDWAY is October 21-22 and is The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Old School RIDE IN Bike Rally. Its only $10 per person to camp out all weekend and party with us, make sure you check out the 2 page ad in this issue for details. Don’t Miss it! Mayhem isn’t the only big event we have going on in October, just about every weekend holds a marque event. Cox’s HD, Blue Collar Cycle Company, Antique Motorcycle Club of America, AHDRA at the Rock are all huge events, that are surrounded by a ton of other party worthy events. The Cruisin’ Calendar starts on page 6 and goes on for a few pages. Seriously yall, it’s THE biker event calendar for the Carolinas.
Check out the front cover. This month the 50th Anniversary Fall CBA Swap Meet is November 12-13 . This is another event not to be missed. 50 years this Swap Meet has been a source of fun for area bikers and revenue for the Concerned Bikers Association who are one of the groups in NC that are keeping an eye on bikers rights. Check out the cover story on page 4 for more info on this years Fall Swap Meet.
We still have plenty of good riding left in 2022 and there are so many great roads to ride in the Carolinas. Make sure you get out there and enjoy the fall weather

CBA Bike Show & Swap Meet 50th Anniversary Edition
elcome bAck mY frienDs to the show that never ends…..THANKS to Brothers & Sisters like you and our depend able vendors and our hard working members who work their ass off to put on a good show for you. We’ve been having our show for 50 years. I don’t know of any other Swap Meet that’s been swapping the huge amounts of parts, both old and new, that we have for so long. It’s a real old school Bike Show & Swap Meet, not a t-shirt show.
This year the Bike Show is dedicated to our Bike Show Director Emeritus, Terry Brown. Terry and his wife Debby were in charge of the Bike Show for over 35 years before his passing on September 21, 2021. Thank you, Terry &
his family!! Ride in Peace, Terry!!!
Our show will be opened at 10 am. The bands will start at noon. The Mechanized Cal vary will fire the cannons at 1 pm. While you are down there watching them fire and reload the Civil War era cannons, stick around and watch our near famous Barbie Car Downhill Races. Our own Capt. Bubba Morgan will be racing, along with Lincoln, the Stud, Infield, and the wrecking crew from “The Rock”, Dano Simmons South Main Custom. You can get in the fun by racing one of our cars or you can bring your own car. See who can win or at least stay on the car through the finish line. Join in the fun and challenge your friends to a race or two….there should be some grudge races left over from the June Jam. Ladies are more than welcome to join in the fun and race also. If you have a Barbie Car that you would like to donate
to the cause, please bring it to the show. The Mechanized Calvary will fire the cannons again at 3:30 pm in Memory for Brothers & Sisters who have passed away in the last year. You are welcome to call out names before this firing. Back to the stage at 4 pm for a Beard Contest sponsored by Cabby’s Beard Products and a Tattoo Contest sponsored by White Trash Ink. At 5 pm we will have our famous CBA Wet T-Shirt Contest. Then at 6:30 pm the Mechanized Calvary will do a night fir ing. You will want to see that!
We are finally able to have a tattoo artist at our show. We fi nally got it worked out with the right permits, so if you would like to be a tattoo artist at our swap meet, please get it touch with me.
Our vendors will be open all day from 10 am-6pm. Our bands will play with a few breaks on and off all day. Our bike show will be on-going all day in building # 1. There will be food and beverages available.
With an all-volunteer staff, all of your money stays in North Carolina to fight for your rights and educate the motoring public and kids in driver’s ed. You support CBA by coming to our shows, but we need you to join CBA to help fight for your rights. We need a large membership when we talk to legisla tors. They listen more when you have a large membership backing you.
We THANK YOU for supporting our shows over the years. We would also like to THANK our sponsors and urge you to support them:
McGrath Law Firm sponsoring the Bike Show
Bob Karney Law Firm sponsoring the Swap Meet
South Main Customs Blue Collar Cycles
MAL Adult Entertainment Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine
They all help to sponsor and support CBA events.
Don’t forget our CBA Toys for Tots Run on Sunday, December 4, 2022. It will begin at the Bojangles Colise um parking lot….Registration at 11 am….KSU at 1pm…. ends at Independence Harley Davidson.
Our next Bike Show & Swap Meet will be March 25 & 26, 2023. Hope to see you at all our CBA events! THANK YOU!!! CharlotteCBA.org Ride Safe & Free !!! Rick Nail, CBA Swap Meet Director 704.577.1546

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine 24th Anniversary Bike Night
By: LincoLn infieLd
Photos By: LincoLn infieLd & daryL Brewton
eAther is the greAt equAlizer of motorcYcle events. I’ve seen the best of events wash away with a bad forecast, some of our bike nights have gone the same way. So it was no real surprise when there was a 70% chance of rain two days in advance of our 24th Anniversary Party on Friday, August 19th. But hey, 70% chance of rain is still a 30% chance of sunshine and I really hate rescheduling events, so we decided to go ahead as planned. Plus: Molly, Maggie and myself had already invited a few thousand friends to our office, snagged a keg of premi um suds, and we had vacuumed, which was the real clincher. When Friday rolled around, the chance of rain had dwindled to 15% and that’s no reason to cancel.
This time we gambled and won. The Anniversary Bike Nights at The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine are just a way for us to blow off steam. We always have a few vendors, crank up some tunes and wait for our friends to arrive. As always, Shannon and Dexter Rights of Tom McGrath’s Motor cycle Law Group are a big part of our celebration. They are the first on the scene to set up and for the past few years have donated hot dogs and soft drinks to the shindig. Dexter is probably the best hot dog chef on the east coast and the ladies
from the Chrome Angels pitch in serve the dogs to the rowdy bunch of bikers who show up. The hot dogs are always free, but this year the Chrome Angels and Tom McGrath’s Motor cycle Law Group were taking up donations for the Graves Family. Jimmy has been waiting on a Liver transplant and at the end of the night $515 was handed to Jimmy and his wife Sherry.
Bikes rolled in and filled up the lower parking lot while folks wandered around the vendors that showed up. Ink Lab Tattoo, The CMA, and Karen Hatchett with Cindy Welborn selling shot gun tickets for the Shriner Children’s Hospital rounded out the vendor row. The keg was set up in front of The Tom McGrath Motorcycle Law Group with Shannon run ning the tap. It was a perfect set up to grab a shot of beer and watch the bikini bike wash that was one of the high lights of the night. Kristin and Candace were busy all evening clean ing up them dirty bikes in black bikinis and fishnet stockings. Bikes were lined up and so were the spectators!
Round 7pm it was time to cut the cake, cause you can’t have an anniversary party without cake! Molly had ordered a huge chocolate cake with our 24th Anniversary Bike Night logo on top of the vanilla
butter cream icing and it was delicious! Bout the time we finished cutting the cake the keg ran dry, it was a beer emer gency! But Lucas, Maggie and I ran to the Dollar General two doors down from the office and we snagged a bunch of random 12 packs to keep the crowd at bay.
Some of the crowd bailed when the keg floated, but those who stayed were determined to bring the party home! The sun went down and we set off some fireworks and threw $50 at the best bike on the lot. It wasn’t hard to choose since we were down to a handful of bikes, but Tommy Doutt and his 2021 custom build was a solid choice. The official party was over and the vendors broke down camp, but there were a few beers left in the bucket and a Full Throttle Party never ends til the beer is all gone. There were still a few folks there who were down to party and we set to shot gunning beers, talking shit and doing burnouts. We smoked that parking lot out and finished out the night.
24 years in the books, literally. Thanks to everyone who came out and partied with us. I look forward to next year’s 25th Anniversary Bike Night, I’ll probably get two kegs this time and see if you thirsty bastards can float those! Til then, see ya out there.

Harley Drags Thundering At Bristol
story & Photos By aLan dockery
Ans AnD rAcers Were thrilleD When the AmericAn Motorcycle Racing Association Thunder Valley Nitro Nationals brought Harleys back to the strip the middle of August. This was the second year that Harley Drag Bikes shook the mountains around Bristol, Tennessee, after being absent for several.
August can be hot, even in the mountains. But this year I think it was the coolest and most comfortable I’d seen there. When the air is comfortable for us, it’s also good for race bikes.
I could only make Saturday qualifying. For the fans there that day they got a great show of Harley drag bikes from Dial-In ET Class to incredible Top Fuel Machines. Qualifying is some folks’ favorite day since everybody runs hard trying to make the field and qualify at the top of the ladder. Another thing about racing in East Tennessee is the support for teams and racers crosses the mountains. Old guys like Joe Perry, Kingsport, TN, have us cheering for them.
Nitromethane-powered Harleys are incredible machines to watch run. Top Fuelers are monsters making more than 1,000 horsepower, with transmissions. The same engines are in Ni tro Funny Bikes, but running just a jackshaft, high gear only. Pro Fuel is the small nitro class. From the warm-up in the pits to the massively smoky burnout to the more than 200 mile an hour passes in six seconds they are thrilling to watch. Some of
the best Fuel Bikes in the country were at Bristol.
North Carolina teams made up much of the eight-bike field. Tracy Kile, Asheville, qualified second, then started sending the rest of the field to the spectator stands. The second round of Top Fuel eliminations gave folks some great close races with lots of passes deep in the sixes at more than 200 miles an hour. The final round was all Tracy by just a little. He beat Ryan Peery, Ohio, Number One Qualifier, on reaction time, elapsed time and miles an hour for the win.
Tracy’s win in the final round was real popular with the fans. He won at Bristol last year too. Oh, and a bunch of folks from Asheville, The Porch People, were there to cheer Tracy down the strip. Bristol is like a home track for him since Asheville ain’t far away. He has a business in Asheville, The Fairview Tavern, so lots of folks came to support Tracy and winning in front them was a big deal.
Bad Apple Racing ain’t a big well-funded team with many sponsors. So, it’s cool to see a favorite team of many Carolina Harley Drags Fans win a big race. Tracy has been at this for 22 years now and has a knack for making things work on a budget.
Tii Tharpe, Pfafftown, NC; Jay Turner, Julian, NC and Mike Beland, Maiden, NC, gave us some local favorites to cheer for in Top Fuel.
Mike Beland, A1 Cycles, made some good passes on his Drain Daddie sponsored Top Fuel bike. Hope to see it in the sixes soon. Jay Turner was riding the ProCharger blown bike and not making great passes on it. I hope to see that machine rip down the strip someday.
Sam White, Chapin, SC, was in Pro Fuel. I think most of that field is modern machines built by Johnny Vickers up in the Cackalackie mountains.
Kevin Campbell, Southern Pines, NC, had his pretty red, white and blue Pro Gas bike thundering down the valley.
Bob Maier, Cleveland, NC, made it to the final round in the Modified Class where he qualified second. But that quick chick Kim DeShields, Number One plate holder from Tennes see, crossed the finish line .139 second ahead of him.
In the popular Super Gas Class 9.90 Index, Rick Medford, Cherokee, NC, represented the Carolinas. He also ran in Pro Eliminator.
But it was Cody Hayworth, Concord, NC, who wore out the eighteen other bikes in the 10.90 Index PE Class for the win.
Joe Peterson and David Heuring, from Wilmington, com peted in the 11.50 Street Eliminator Class.
The Dial-In Eliminator Class saw William Ragan, Goose Creek, SC; Calloway Ledford, Sylva, NC; Sam Toineeta, Cherokee, NC; Todd Gregory, Louisburg, NC: Scott Salisbury, Ladson, SC; David Huering and Joe Peterson in competition.
The American Motorcycle Racing Association brings Harley smoke, fire and thunder to The Rock this month. Y’all Harley

ere in the Carolinas’, we are fortunate to have year-round riding weather. Aside from the occasional snow or ice storm, or God forbid a tornado or hurricane, we can get our healthy dose of wind therapy pretty much at will. While the End of Summer is not the end of riding season by any stretch of the imagination, it IS an excellent excuse to throw one helluva party!
And that’s all Carson Baker really needs, an excuse. He and his media person, Taylor Forrester, put together one more for the books. With literally dozens of vendors with everything from food and beer, motorcycle accessories, cigars, clothing and hats, knives and patches…even the dyno machine was onsite again.
A few of the new vendors included Road Lizard Customs who paint custom tanks, tins and lids. And their displays looked pretty awesome. Fat Ash Cigars was new to me and Smithfield. Though I quit smoking 20+ years ago, a good cigar still tempts me to fire up from time to time. And their hats were just what the day called for given the 90+ degree temps that day.
Southland Designs out of Greenville, NC was there offering custom made wood art for your walls. Freedom Biker Church and Bikers for Christ were both there offering prayers for the event and spreading the gospel. Even the Law Tigers were there with a few free handouts for attendees.
Both the Marines and the Army recruiters were onsite signing up new volunteers. Yes, they do have an age waiver for those who may be wondering. The United States Veterans Corps were there as well. This was a new group that I was unaware of. They are “a Corps of Military and First Responder Veterans performing ‘Hands On’ community service with a mission deployment attitude!” per their website. I took time to speak with them for a bit and was impressed by the representa tives that were present that day.
But at the end of the day, there were two main attractions. The Bulldog Bikini Babes bike wash, and the America rock band Puddle of Mudd. Let’s talk about the girls first. I mean, they were babes in bikinis. We could just stop there, but they were HOT babes in bikinis. All bikini bike washes are NOT
Bulldog Harley-Davidson End Of Summer Bash
the same! They were working for tips, and they were getting LOTS of business. I’m not sure just how good their detailing skills were, but really, who cares? Did I mention these were HOT BABES in BIKINIS?
But of course, Puddle of Mudd stole the show. Before they came onstage, I had the pleasure to meet lead singer Wes Scantlin’s sister and road manager, Blake. She was as cool as the other side of the pillow. She gave me the freedom to come on stage for photos both before, during and after the show. While waiting for the show to begin, I ran into some friends, one of which was carrying a drumstick. Kathy told me her husband Ed Moon, had won backstage passes and front row seats to a Puddle of Mudd show in 2010. When she went to
shake Wes’ hand, he graciously gave her a hug instead. She was awestruck! Then, during the show, Ed had caught the drumstick. She was hoping to have the band sign it.
Having just met Blake, I introduced the two, and now Kathy has added autographs of the entire band to her memories. Thanks to all the band for doing that for Kathy. And special thanks to Blake for making it happen for her!
With an estimated 4,000-5,000 people in attendance, the band came on and rocked Smithfield with many fan favorites, including my favorite, She Hates Me. Blake seemed surprised as she noted me singing word-for-word with Wes while onstage taking photos. Hey, I am a fan. What can I say?
In the end, all had a great time. There were no incidents, a great time was had by all, and a dozen or so bikes were sold that day. Including another one to my brother Doug McLamb and his new bride Lori McLamb. All the staff at Bulldog worked their asses off to make this a great event. Taylor later told me she logged nearly twenty miles just around the event that day. What an awesome job she did promoting, help ing Carson to pull off yet another awesome event for 2022. Thanks for allowing The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine to be a part of this day.
But wait, there’s more to come before the year is out!! Stay tuned or check out Bulldog’s website and/or social media pages to stay in the know. And of course, look for Bulldog Harley-Davidson’s name to pop up in the Cruisin’ Calendar!

12th Annual Shriners Hospital For Children Benefit
By: karen hatchett
t WAs A greAt DAY to be At Double D burnout Saloon in Kernersville, NC on Saturday Au gust 27th. WFMY News 2 Meteorologist, Ed Matthews was with us all day bringing sunshine and wonder ful weather. Dalton Davis Band started the day providing great music and entertainment and Sammy Turner and Dirty South Band took over the stage ending the benefit with some great tunes and energy. If you have not heard either of these great bands, look them up. Many thanks to the bands for donating your time and talent, and to Ed Matthews for taking time to be with us, supporting this wonderful cause.
Butch Medders and his crew cooked up some great BBQ (it has been said that it is the best they have ever had), chicken and all the fixings. And let’s not forget the famous cowboy beans made by Carol Medders and the homemade slaw by Cindy Welborn. Many were on hand serving and preparing the food. Over 100 plates were served.
Everyone loves the competition of a live auction. Bidding wars started and lots of money was raised. Thank you to everyone who donated items for the auction.
Many volunteered, donated and showed up. It overwhelms us each year to see all the participation for this annual benefit. You all are the ones who make benefits successful. It would

not happen without a village, and the biker community has one hell of a tribe! We had representation and volunteers from the guys with the funny hats from the High Point Shrine Club and The American Legion Riders Post 87 was with us all day sup porting and presented a generous donation.
Even though we stopped having a ride, we incorporated a bike show for best bike for $150 cash prize and a trophy. We had 11 entries in the bike show. The winner went home with the trophy but gave the $150 cash back. Bikers started this annual event, have supported the cause for 12 years and have been a large part in making it successful to help the Children.
And of course, let’s not forget The Carolina’s Full Throttle Magazine for the promoting and providing a great resource for biker events and benefits.
This year $18,159 was raised for the Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville, SC, providing free orthopedic and neuromuscular care for children under the age of 18, with no regards to the family’s financial situation. Over the past 12 years over $114,000 has been raised! Great job to all! If you know a child needing orthopedic, neuromuscular or burn care, contact your local Shrine Club.
Looking forward to seeing everyone for the 13th Annual in 2023.

Double D’s Host Wednesday Night Bike Night
By: LincoLn infieLd
ouble D’s burnout saloon hosts biker fun every day of the week, including their signature Sunday Funday that brings in riders from across the state who are looking for a good time. So, it’s no surprise that when owner David Thompson decided to pull a mid-week soiree it was an instant hit.
Double D’s is the perfect biker bar with a flat paved parking lot out front with no curbs, so you can ride in and out from anywhere in the parking lot. There’s plenty of room to move around the 2 pool tables and multiple dart boards that occupy each end of the bar. There’s a nice, long, fully stocked, wooden bar that you can belly up to and order drinks from any one of the Purdy bartenders. After snagging a drink you can go out in the back yard and this is where the bike night party was going on.
The back porch was sat full of folks hanging out and “Con traband” was setting up on the stage. Tom McGrath’s Motor
cycle Law Group was the sponsor of the first ever Wednesday bike night and NC Coordinator, Shannon Rights was set up handing out the Motorcycle Law Group swag. They were also in charge of picking out a Best Bike On The Lot that evening. Sounds easy, right? Not so fast, there were a ton of great looking bikes and all of them where parked hoping to snag that $100 prize. It was such a tough decision that Shannon enlisted the help of Biker Trash Nation’s Wayne Pinnix to help make the call. The band cranked up and was rocking while a huge corn hole tournament started up on the huge concrete pad designated for tossing bags. By now the front parking lot was filled up and bikes were riding through to the back yard to park.
Around 8 pm the decision was made and Rachel Nishio’s beautifully airbrushed trike took home the Best Bike on the Lot title and $100. You gotta see the art on this trike to believe it. Gargoyles, skulls, flowers, flames, it’s all there on a dark

While you are out and about, make sure you stop in at Double D’s Burnout Saloon. It’s a biker bar staple at 1408 E. Mountain St. Kernersville, NC. In all reality, it’s bike night every night at Double D’s, but it’s celebrated on Wednesday Nights and all day on Sunday. Check out their ad for upcom ing events and go have some fun.

Benefit Run For Nate Whitesides
By: waLLy wersching
n July 3rD, nate was out riDing his harley sportster, and a woman pulled out in front of him, and he hit her doing extensive damage to his bike and his right leg. He was airlifted to Spartanburg. He has already had a few surgeries, and a titanium rod placed in his leg. His friends got together to hold a benefit ride to help with his expenses.
On August 13th, the ride was held at the old Rutherford County Moose Lodge on Rt 74 in Bostic, NC with registration from 9 until 10 am. The ride was to go up Bostic-Sunshine Highway to Rt 226, then north to Rt 64, then southwest to the town of Ruth, and Rt 74 Business, ending at the Moose Lodge for hot dog plates, and a raffle.
I arrived at the Moose Lodge at about 9:00 and parked in the center of the parking lot. I went to the registration table, placed a stack of Full Throttle magazines, and gave a dona tion. I noticed a young man on crutches walking around, and finally sitting on a chair near the registration table. He was
Nate Whitesides, the young man who had the accident. He explained about the accident, and the subsequent surgeries. He was very thankful for the benefit run. He hadn’t been to work since the accident.
A few minutes later, Mike from the Full Throttle Biker Church stopped by because he saw “Miss Vickie” in the center of the lot. We talked for a while. He didn’t know about the benefit run but gave a donation and picked up a magazine to read later. He was out shopping and on the way home, when he passed the lodge and stopped.
Next there was a group of bikers who rolled in. I had seen them before at a Patriot Guard Mission earlier in the year. They were a group of bikers called the “IGY6” which means “I Got Your Back”. The club members are all in service orga nizations like: Dispatchers, Law Enforcement, Nurses, Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services, and Armed Forces. They are a charitable organization focusing on children’s, first responder’s, and veteran’s charities.
They all came to register at the table, then went back to their bikes to wait ‘til the ride started. A few more bikes rolled in and parked along the fence in the back of the parking lot. Everybody was laughing and talking. It was a festive event.
When it was time to leave, everybody was called together for ride instructions and a prayer by Mike. The route would be pretty easy for the group. There shouldn’t be a need for road guards, and there was no police escort.
Nate was going to lead the group in a Jeep with the doors removed. He was all smiles as the Jeep left the parking lot fol lowed by a group of loud motorcycles.

20th Annual Catawba County Shriners Run
story and Photo By aLan dockery he sAYing “time flies When You Are having fun” is true. And there ain’t much more fun than riding motorcycles. As we get older the time flies faster and Summer is over way too soon. And we think about how many Summers we have enjoyed some events.
I remember twenty years ago when several of us started a local charity ride. We had a large active CBA chapter then and wanted to put on an event. John Parker (RIP) suggested the Shriners Children’s Hospital as a good cause to raise some more for. “No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child,” Abraham Lincoln. We had that saying on the T-shirts.
Now the Catawba County Shrine Club man ages the ride with Dennis and Terry Grigg as coordinators for several years. Jimmy Cline has taken the lead on the ride and plans to do it for years to come. Reckon I’ll feel really old when we ride on the 30th anniversary.
Riders were lucky this is a Sunday afternoon ride. That Saturday was a rainout for biker events across the Carolinas.
But Sunday was clearing fast with just a little misty in the morning. What a nice Mid-September Sunday afternoon we had to ride on the 20th Dice Run. They laid out a local route with stops in Catawba, Burke and Lincoln Counties. While folks turned in their hands, the Shriners served all the riders and volunteers some real good BBQ and fixins.
Jimmy ended the day with a bunch of good door prizes after folks finished eating and were relaxing with a cold beverage. The winners were: Best Roll $500 – Junior at Johns; Vaughn Weston and Dwayne Baker tied for second, so they split the second and third place money for $200 each. Tommy Carrol got $100 for the Worst Roll.
“We want to thank our sponsors and all our supporters for making Catawba County Shrine Club’s Dice Run successful year after year. As well as thanks to our members who give of their time and talents to make sure everything went smoothly. I hope to continue this success for many more years to come,” Catawba County Shrine Club President, Jimmy Cline.
Winners L-R: Tommy Carrol, Dennis Grigg standing in for Junior, Dwayne Baker and Vaughn Weston

14th Annual Jace Man Run
By: waLLy wersching
n august of 2007, wenDy panther’s five month old nephew Jace fell victim to abuse and lost his life. Because of this, Wendy and her husband “Spanky” created the Jace Man Run to raise money for the Abuse Prevention Council (APC). Tragically on Sept. 7, 2012, at only 51 years of age, Wendy suddenly died from an accident at home. This year’s Jace Man Run was lovingly dedicated in her memory, along with “Spanky’s”. We lost “Spanky” earlier this year.
On Friday, August 26th and Saturday August 27th, the Cleveland County Independent Bikers (CCIB) and the Con cerned Bikers Association CBA/A.B.A.T.E. of Cleveland County were sponsoring the 14th Annual Jace Man Run at CCIB’s Land at 1596 Racepath Church Road in Mooresboro, NC. All proceeds to go to the Abuse Prevention Council (APC) to help stop child abuse in Cleveland County.
This year’s Jace Man Run was bigger than ever with live music – Peace Pipe on Friday night, and Madderdont on Sat urday night. Saturday starting at 3:00PM there was a live auc tion, 50/50 drawing, bike games, door prizes, food, and more.
The Poker Run was on Saturday with the group leaving the CCIB Land at 11:00AM. This would ensure that the last bike would be in by 2:00PM. The stops on the run were: 1st – Wings Etc. on Dixon Blvd. in Shelby, 2nd – The Windjam mers’ Club House on Nalley Drive in Shelby, 3rd - The CCIB Clubhouse on Washburn Switch Road in Shelby, 4th – The Vintage Dog on College Avenue in Boiling Springs, NC, and 5th - the last card back at CCIB’s Land in Mooresboro.
I arrived a little after 9:00AM. Members of the CCIB were walking around or driving their golf carts getting ready for the arrival of bikers to the event. The weather was perfect so there should be a large crowd in attendance.
After a while, Grumpy rode in on his Harley FXR. We talked for a long time while we were waiting for the other bik ers to ride in. We were getting a little worried because it was getting close to 11:00AM, and there were only a few bikers signed up for the run. You never know who will show up.
“Legs” rode in. She was smiling while riding her Harley. Her tall stature lends to her imposing look while riding. “Just Mike”, the pastor of the Full Throttle Biker Church in Forest City was there. We talked for a while as we waited for the run to start. There was only one group this year – the 11:00AM group. They lined up to go. The chrome and paint on the mo
torcycles were gleaming in the morning sun, and the morning silence was now a mighty roar of the bikes’ exhaust. Within a minute or two, in a cloud of dust, they were all off on their way to Wings Etc.
Overall, there were over 100 sponsors on the back of the event T-Shirt with a picture of Wendy and “Spanky” on the front. It was a team effort of everybody working together that made it what it was. $16,259.00 was collected and donated to the APC this year.
Willie’s Honky Tonk Grand Re-Opening
By: LincoLn infieLd
illie’s honky tonk is a legendary biker bar in Winston-Salem, NC and has been a staple of the riding community for 50 years. Just last year Willie’s came under new ownership and management and has been going through some sporadic renova tions. It’s tough to come into an ownership of such a legendary property, that needs a little
renovation and keep its heart and soul intact. But bit by bit improvements have been completed.
On the approach from downtown Winston-Salem the bright red ‘WILLIE’S” at the roofline of the building is visible from 3 blocks away and you know you are headed for a good time. Willie’s boasts all ABC permits and a unique “U” shaped bar that patrons are only separated by a matter of feet on either side of the “U”. Honestly, there is just enough room for the bartending beauties Angie and Lori to walk down the center of the U to sling drinks at the regulars. Speaking of regulars, half of what makes Willie’s Honky Tonk legendary is their biker clientele which includes the legendary Joe Smith who can usu ally be found belly up to the bar, soaking up suds and telling stories of his travels. The unique bar shape leaves plenty of room for pool tables, circle tables and the occasional band.
On September 3rd, Willie’s Honky Tonk celebrated a Grand Re-Opening party with a few new coats of paint on the walls. The official party started at 5pm, but it was a normal Saturday at Willie’s and bikes were in and out all day long. Robby McMillian pulled the early set, delivering some live music to the patrons. The grill was fired up that afternoon and grilled chicken and all the sides were available for those who came by to help celebrate. I had my eye on the cupcakes. Amanda was running the outside bar on the covered patio which is also a popular spot especially on beautiful evenings like this.
The Barnyard Stompers were the evening entertainment,
and the building AC was working overtime to keep it cool in there as the Stompers were burning the place down. This extremely talented music duo is a lot of fun to watch and it’s nearly impossible to stand still while they are rocking. It was a literally a who’s who of the Winston-Salem riding scene that evening and even Art and Lori from Pine Tree Tavern just down the street in Winston-Salem were in attendance to celebrate Willie’s grand re-0pening.
Seven days a week Willie’s Honky Tonk is a great riding destination. As mentioned, they boast all ABC permits and can quench your thirst no whatever it may take. They have regular parties planed and host a Friday Bike Night. But let’s face it, a place with Willie’s heritage, it’s bike night every night. Make sure that Willie’s is on your regular riding destinations and if you’ve never been, it’s high time you rode into this legend ary biker bar. They are located at 4310 Old Rural Hall Rd, Winston-Salem, NC.

The Smokeout Returns To Salisbury
By: LincoLn infieLd
Photos By: LincoLn infieLd & daryL Brewton
he smokeout rally DominateD the motorCyCle event scene in the Carolinas for 20 years with its sketchy home built choppers, raw energy and chopper celebrity participation. It was one of those events that was a Mecca for the chopper lifestyle and chopper jockey’s rode in from across the country to participate in the event. The event went from the Rowan Co. Fairgrounds to Farm ington Dragway and then Rockingham Dragway before the event went on hiatus after the 2019 event and it seemed that the Smokeout Rally was over. Then around the beginning of 2022, the long dormant Smokeout Rally Facebook page popped up with an encouraging post that woke the chopper world. A photo of longtime event coordinator “Edge” and Chris and Heather Callen of Cycle Source Magazine at the Rowan Co. Fairgrounds signaling the return of the Original Chopper Rally to its original location. The buzz from the post was intense and chopper projects had a new deadline, Septem ber 8-10, 2022.
The first rider arrived from Washington state on Wednesday, September 7th a day ahead of time. In true Smokeout fashion, he rolled in on a Sportster with a few garage chopper mods that he’d done himself. In fact, he’d converted the bike to run the oil in the frame, the job hadn’t gone as planned and he’d used up 10 gallons (you read that right) of oil on his journey across the country. That is the smoke out way, get there, at all costs. On Thursday the vendors were rolling in and setting up, the campground was filling up too. It was still a set up day to get ready for the events on Friday and Saturday. There was a lot to do but the weekly Rowan Co. bingo hustle delayed the set up of the Legends and Legacy Gallery in the main building so, as always Plan B was in effect. You can’t make this stuff up. It was still an all day party, with folks setting up camp, rolling in sweet choppers, seeing old friends and making new ones. By nightfall the ride in movie screen was set up in the
back corner of the fairgrounds for an airing of “The World’s Fastest Indian”. We had kinda front row tickets to the show ing, as we could see the screen from the campground while hanging out with Jerry and Chris from the Law Tigers who were one of the main sponsors of the Smokeout Rally.
The morning of Friday, September 9 was filled with mini bike racing practice, dirt drag practice and bike show sign ups. The first official contest of the day was to find the World’s Strongest Biker. Much like the strongman competitions, it included incredible feats of strength, biker style. The ham mer throw from various track and field events was adapted to be a flywheel with rope handles that competitors went for the longest launch. I gotta say some of the technique was sketchy and had the crowd on their toes as they spun to gain momen tum on their throw. Most throws went in the correct direction
and there was impressive length for both men and women’s divisions. Next up was the adaptation of the Atlas Stone Carry. A table holding 2 sets of weighted engines stood 20 feet from another platform. Contestants had to carry each engine and place it on the open table before their opposite competitor finished. The engines consisted of an Evo engine weighing 100lbs, the Twin Cam weighing 130lbs and a Sportster engine and transmission weighing 160lbs. These suckers were heavy and awkward to carry but hoisting them up on to the table after carrying ‘em twenty feet was the real test. The ladies went first, and it was impressive to watch Heather Callen and Barbie the Welder pull off 2 out of 3 carries. The dudes took it to a new level and were running with the engines on their shoulders and chunking them up on the finishing table. Next the competition was the deadlift and it was equally impressive for the men and women’s division. This Incredibly fun event to watch was won by Joe Orsini of Toce Racing for the guys and Barbie the Welder took home the Ladies title! Congrats
y’all.
The first band of the rally took to the huge stage at the end of the midway, it was the Barnyard Stompers. This duo rocks stages at major rallies and local bars and always puts on a great show. While they were rocking, the Shade Tree Bike Games kicked off in the middle of the midway. Cool wooden plaques were handed out to winners of classic biker games like the slow race, waitress carry, the board ride and more. It was awesome to see choppers and stock rides go head to head to show off their riding skills. The band was rocking, and the bike games were rolling at the top of the midway and at the other end of the midway two bike shows were going on. The Performance Bike Show by Hardcore Cycles Inc. for all the performance Dynas and Softails and they even threw in a best paint award. Cam (@nothingstockcam) took home Best in Show with a killer flamed up FXR. Led Sled Customs had a crowd of awesome Sportsters lined up in front of their trailer for the Sportster Showdown. They handed out a slew of class winner plaques and then awarded Christian Newman of CT Newman Engineering (@ ctnewman) with the Best in Show award for his in sane magneto, kickstart Sportster. Christian snagged a wild custom trophy made by “Squirrel” along with top honors.
All while this is going on in the midway, the entire fairground is swarming with cool custom choppers, minibikes and folks walking around checking out dozens of stellar vendors, eating fair food and just taking in the chopper lifestyle in its most pure form. There were a few moments between attractions, but never a dull moment. Just so you wouldn’t miss out on anything, official event Emcee, Jack Schit was keeping the info and the jokes coming. As the sun went down on Friday night Jack took to the stage to get the Wet T-shirt Contest rolling. RoadSide

originally scheduled for Saturday, but with a shaky forecast event organizers wisely bumped the event to being the official night cap for Friday. I’m sure glad they did. Chopper dirt drags under the lights, it’s not something you want to miss out on. In fact, it was the highlight of the event in my opinion. They had a drag racing tree set up and it was a run what you brung grudge match shootout. There were choppers of all types, flattys, shovels, knuckles, evos and even a TC Roadking making passes and putting dust in the air. Most folks dropped the hammer when the lights turned green and they got squirely right out the gate, but they kept getting it and about mid length got the bike straightened out.
Marty joined Jack and they talked up the contest, getting 11 lovely ladies on stage and over $1400 in cash prizes from the crowd. RoadSide Marty kept us all rolling, we laughed so damn hard the whole contest. After a few rounds of wetting up the gals and having them dance around, homehown gal, Randi, took home 1st place and $800. She deserved it.
After the Wet T-Contest, Dallas Moore took to the Main Stage to crank out some tunes, but we all migrated towards the campground where the dirt drags were about to start up. This was
World’s Strongest Biker winner, Joe Orsini, was tearing up the dirt with a dirt drag monster running a Hoosier back tire. Once he got dialed in it was tough to beat him. Local NC chopper jockey, Chad Dillard didn’t lose any of his passes on his gold evo chopper. It was awesome. These dudes and ladies were fearless. The crowd was so into it that they were crowding the dirt strip and had to be moved back a few times. I’m not sure if they picked a winner for this event, but if it was up to me, it was the crowd who truly won, what a show!
And all that was just Friday, the warmup day for another full day of events! Although the weather for Saturday was a little damp, it didn’t stop the event. In fact, it rained pretty good on Saturday morning and turned to an off and on drizzle for the afternoon. Event organizers delayed some of the early events to the afternoon, but riders were still coming in the gates and those that were already in attendance, weren’t fazed a bit. Bad weather isn’t going to stop a party like the Smokeout, it just makes it a bit more messy. Mud and puddles just make

target spots to race through. The misty morning made for a good time to spend some time taking in the Legends and Legacy Gallery and the Smokeout Hall Of Fame. This was a REALLY cool part of this year’s Smokeout. Ya see, event coordinators Chris and Heather Callen not only invited some of the Smokeout legends like Billy Lane, Paul Cox, Jeff Cochran, Bill Dodge, Steve Broyles and Pat Pat terson, but had these legends invite Legacy Builders too. The Legacy Builders are the next generation of Smokeout Legends that are carrying the chopper torch. Inside this hall, some of the most epic chop per builds were on display from both the Legends and the Legacy builders. The bikes in this building were insanely impressive. The Legacy building also held the Tankful Exhibit. At least 18 custom painted gas tank halves were on display. Each tank carrying artwork as impressive as the next were on exhibit and would soon hit the auction block. The auction was online and raised over $12,000 for Meals On Wheels.
The official events of the day didn’t start til around 2pm on Saturday but consisted of round 2 of the Jive Turkey Racing minibike racing, which is always more fun on wet grass! These fearless minibike racers went full speed into each turn and hardly made it a lap without some or all the par ticipants leaving the track area and having to carry their bikes back to the track. It was a lot of fun to watch. But you didn’t have to watch! If you didn’t have a minibike, there were a few available to rent! Your donation to secure the bike went to Meals on Wheels. The main focus of the day was the ride in bike show on the midway. Over 80 mild to wild

choppers parked on the midway to be judged in over 30 classes. Coinciding with the ride in bike show was the Perewitz Paint Show, which Dave Perewitz himself was picking the best paint award. 99% of the bikes in the show were jaw droppers and it took over an hour to walk the midway taking in all these sweet chops! The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine was even honored to have a choice award to give away and we appreciate Chris and Heather for including us in their epic event. Out of all of the killer chops in the ride in bike show, Rick Dozer’s (@dozer_v) hand fabricated 1916 Harley-Davidson JD racer took Best in Show and it truly is a work of art. As part of the honor of being best in show, Rick was awarded a Denvers Chopper springer front end. How cool is that? As far as The Caroli nas’ Full Throttle Magazine choice award, it went to Bryan Lane (@fastlanepan) for this 1945 Flathead. We love old school bikes and this sweet old Flathead stuck out in the crowd. It was awesome to see other local NC bike show entries take home some hardware as well. Carey Kiser took home the Bagger Radical award with her exceptional Buell Glide, Ronnie Quinn snagged Most Original with his Rupp Roadster 2 minibike and Zach Shipwash’s 1972 CB 750 was the Best Asian.
Directly after the Bike Show awards the Koffin Kats took the stage and just kicked ass. Their psychobilly style really matched the energy and excitement of bike show victories and the end of a successful weekend. But that wasn’t even the end of it! The headliner, Nine Pound Hammer closed the evening out while being matched by the sound of burnouts from the other end of the midway and clouds of tire smoke filled the air as a light rain began to fall again. It was just an absolutely kick ass moment that was the perfect ending to the successful return of the Smokeout Rally. Man…huge shoutout to Chris and Heather Callen of Cycle Source Magazine for their vision and hard work to bring this iconic rally back to Salisbury, where I am now convinced, it really needs to be. Y’all rock, and I can’t wait for next year.

Riding For Rusty; Our Gentle Giant
By: chi
he life of Joseph “Rusty” Croom, Our Gentle Giant, was celebrated Saturday, August 6, 2022. Bikers, friends and community gath ered to honor the life and memorial of an outstanding man. There are not many that can fill his shoes literally or figuratively. He was a kind, soft-spo ken and gentle man. Yet, he towered above many he was humble, meek and peaceful. A loving husband and father, a family man and a truck driver, with a great appreciation of the air horn! He was a work hard, play hard kinda guy. He loved chess, billiards and cards all of which he was very skilled, not an easy win for opponents!
Fletcher Collins led both the opening prayer and the ride. We pulled out from White Lake Motor Oil @The Shop at 11:00 a.m. We took an amazing country ride down to Rusty’s old stomping ground around Highway 210 and Harrel’s. I tooted the horn all the way down Hwy 210; each house, store
and intersection that reminded me of Our Gentle Giant. We continued the ride to Hwy 53. We took a short break at Kelly General Store. We all got a water and stretched our legs a bit. We had a little biker talk and talked a little about Rusty’s character. Meek, humble and kind-hearted not always the qualities you would note of a man that stood close to 7 feet tall. Yet, those were the types of words repeated about Rusty by those that knew him well. Then, we were back on the road to return to some great friends and some really good BBQ!
Upon returning we saw many faces from Colly Chapel Church. They sup ported the ride from the very beginning with prayers, donations, and most of all love. The registration table hosted by Mickey Carter of Bikers And Needy Children (BANC). Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson hosted the lunch tent as well as numerous prizes for the raffle. Vendor tents were hosted by Beverly Rose Designs, Biker Jewelry and Tina Brock with Pop It’s, purses and all things fashionable. Elvis Blackmon and Christie Merritt acted as Mr. & Mrs. Masters of ceremony as they helped all along the way. Len Dallas Entertainment was live at the turn table and speakers perform ing his wicked DJ moves. Len travels around the state playing and singing; he graciously set his schedule aside to mix for us on this day.
Other honorable mentions for donations and support go to Mr. & Mrs. Dale Taylor of T & T Tire, Mr. & Mrs., Mike & Robin Nance of Nance Plumbing, Contractor, Mr. Mac Campbell of Campbell Oil, Allen Brother Hunting Preserve, Singletary Baptist Church and last but certainly not least the “Sunflower Crew” who say they want to remain nameless; yet they all deserve so many acknowledgments!
Our Gentle Giant, Rusty passed on Sunday, June 05, 2022. Left with the loving memories of his life’s work; his wife, Patsy Croom; two daughters, Jessica Croom and Caitlyn Croom; two stepdaughters, Patricia and Michell Beasley, beloved uncle Forrest Heath, one brother, Earl and three sisters Ammona, Teresa and Mary, and his two grandchildren Scarlet Stephens and Ava Milligan.
The family extend they’re thanks to each one for all their hard work; the numerous hands they offered from start to end. The hearts of this crew are golden, and their compassion will always be remembered!

Eli’s Ride
By: Len “3 wheeL” MontgoMery
have yet to Come aCross a biker funD raiser of any sort where I thought, “Why bother, this is NOT a good cause.” But every once in a while you are given the opportunity to help a child and their family that really needs your help.
Eli Godwin was only two years old when his parents, Heather and Jay, realized something wasn’t_ quite right. Eli had been progressing much like any two year old, learning words, running around, doing all the things one would expect of a two year old. But when he began losing his words, no longer saying simple things like momma or daddy, they sought answers from specialists. And after what I can only imagine were painstaking tests over weeks, maybe months, Eli was di agnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Hunter Syndrome.
According the Mayo Clinic website, Hunter Syndrome is most common in males and is caused by a missing or malfunc tioning enzyme. “In Hunter syndrome, the body doesn’t have enough of the enzyme iduronate 2-sulfatase. This enzyme’s job is to break down certain complex molecules, and without enough of this enzyme, the molecules build up in harmful amounts.”
One of the problems with Eli losing his speech was the pres sure building up on his brain. The normal Intracranial Pres sure, or ICP, is less than 20 mm/Hg. Eli’s ICP had reached 40, which was (still is) causing headaches and was a direct impact on his loss of speech, among other health issues. But thanks to a trial that he was accepted to participate in, Eli’s ICP has dropped to 24. Still a bit high, but much better and heading in the right direction.
Eli is doing much better. He was able to be with us for a while on Saturday. He enjoyed seeing all the motorcycles. He got to sit on one for a picture with his mom. His grandmother, Darlene, told me he has his own electric motorcycle that he loves to ride around the house.
Yet, there is no known cure for Hunter Syndrome. Eli will have to take a treatment once a month for the rest of his life. Treatments at UNC Health can take up to a week at a time.
This can be hard on the whole family. At three years old now, Eli is a trooper. His mom Heather is no longer working as she is the parent who stays with him at the hospital through his treatments. His dad Jay works fulltime to support the family and keep a roof over their heads. Both roles are hard. She is there for everything, while Jay can’t be there for most. But the real hero of the family may just be Eli’s sister, Peyton.
At eight years old, Peyton is a budding softball superstar. She pitches, plays short stop, 2nd base and left field. Jay was telling me that her team was beating nearly every local team they faced by double digits. Like a lot of parents these days, they enrolled her in a traveling league. Not only does this allow her to play better teams and improve her skills on the field, but it helps to keep her grounded as a kid herself. To keep some normalcy for her life.
But when Eli comes home from the hospital, he looks for his big sis. Peyton says he loves to come snuggle with her when he first gets home. And she loves for him to do so! She seems to have a huge heart, especially where Eli is concerned. In this regard, they are two very lucky siblings. Jay told me a story where Peyton when to assist an elderly person. The per son thanked her, noting very few children her age would take the time to offer assistance. But Peyton says she just felt it was what she was supposed to do.
The weather for September 10th did not cooperate with us for the 1st Annual Eli’s Ride. Showers began about 7:30 that morning and came down until 11am or so. We did get a few riders and several people showed up to buy plates. Several items were donated for raffle prizes All in all, we raised over $1,200 to assist with Eli’s medical expenses. And we have determined to make this an annual undertaking. Next year we plan to schedule a little closer to Eli’s birthday. And you’re ALL invited!!

NC All Female Ride
By: shannon rights he nc All femAle riDe WAs August 26-28th. the purpose of the ride is to provide “ALL” LA DIES interested in building camaraderie in NC and beyond a chance to gather and share ideas, experiences, and fellowship. It’s all about riding, having fun, enjoying each other’s fellowship and it’s a wonderful opportunity to expand your network with other ladies holding their own on two wheels.
The planning committee is a group of women riders from various clubs and organizations who include founder, Marion Huntley, Somona Glasgow, Zora Augello, Reina Ward and Patrice Johnson with other ladies stepping in to help from all over the Carolinas and beyond. The NC all female ride was revived from the mid 2000’s when the last one was held. They worked diligently to put on a ride worthy of mention.
Luckily, I had the chance to ride down with friends for the weekend. We met up in Lexington to have lunch at Nick’s Old-Fashioned Burgers before heading out to the host hotel. We rode in with 4 bikes arriving just as registration opened at the Hampton Inn Concord. By the time we got the gear off the bikes and into the hotel lobby the line for registration was across the lobby into the breakfast area. It was still an hour or so before we could check in, so we dropped everything in the lobby for the wait, thankful for the AC!
The registration desk was organized by last names and the process didn’t take long to get your armbands, t-shirts, patch es, and swag bags. Once we got that handled, we checked in
and headed to the room to unwind before the meet & greet started. Top Shots hosted the meet & greet and the theme for the night was boots, bling, and brims so everyone showed out with lots of sparkles.
Saturday morning arrived warm and clear. Wanting to be towards the front of the line, we left the hotel and headed over to Speedway Harley-Davidson by 8:30am; I ended up being 8th in the lineup. Vendors began setting up for the day before registration began. Michelle McCall drew the short straw this year, so I got to ride the ride while she worked the Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group tent. Sometimes being the boss has perks! She did say next year she was riding- so I must find another person to bring the set up next year.
As the morning ended, we counted 195 can-am or trikes and over 200+ bikes. Cabarrus County Sheriff’s deputies gave us our ride instructions and we prayed over the ride before heading out. I must commend the motor unit guys, once we started out our feet never touched the ground for the entire 70-mile route. With the weather in the 90’s and the humidity we would have liked to go a little faster along the route, but we all got back safe and sound. Towards the end of the ride, we were waving the lead sheriff to pick up the pace because we were sweltering! Arriving back to Speedway Harley, we were greeted with an ice chest of cold waters who everyone gratefully took. Even though water and refreshments were available a couple people ended up getting EMS called due to overheating in the parking lot. For those new to riding, please remember the Carolina sum mers are hot and humid, YOU HAVE TO HYDRATE before you even leave for a ride, hydrate along the ride and afterwards. Once we saw the first EMS arrive, Michelle and I acted and started soaking down our Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group towels in ice water and passing them out to everyone who wanted one including the vendors. Thanks to my riding sisters, Cathy, Lesley, and Janet who helped to make sure we got as many out as possible to the crowd. When we got back there was also a parking lot full
of vendors, the DJ was pumping out some great tunes, a riding bull was set up in the grass beside the dealership and Queens of the South Social Club was selling hot fish plates for those looking for food. Sport Bike Chic was onsite, and I finally got a pair of her riding jeans!
As the ride portion of the day ended, the committee mem bers gave thanks and informed every one of the 2023 ride lo cation. Chrome Angelz Riding Club was the largest group at tending with 23 members there. After a brief intermission, we met back at Speedway Harley-Davidson for the fashion show, shopping, and other activities. We decided that we wanted to ride some more so we headed out to hit another shop on our list for the Carolina Challenge riding contest.
I want to let the committee members know that they put a great weekend together. Everyone was so welcoming and positive; it was a refreshing experience when there is so much negativity in the world today. We had over 500 women riders from all over come together for the weekend and not one argu ment, squabble or tense word did I hear the entire time. It was like we had known each other forever and were so happy to reconnect! There were RCs, MCs, social clubs, and lone riders there looking to build relationships and mentor other riders. Women from all walks of life and every ethnicity in the world gathered to make a choice to come together. What more could you ask for?
Make plans now to attend the 2023 NC All Female Ride in Fayetteville, NC on August 25-27, 2023. I’ll see you there!

From The Bitch Pad Bucket List: Tail Of The Dragon
By: kathy Lynn ParneLL
y honeybun & i paC keD the bike & headed down the road, no spe cific destination in mind, or so
I thought. We turned West on I-40 (not my favorite blacktop) & stayed on it for a spell. It was another beautiful day for a ride, with lots of fellow bikers en joying the same. Hmmm, are we going to Asheville? Nope. Maggie Valley? Nope. Cherokee? Nope. Geez. I give up. The journey matters more than the destina tion, or does it? The odometer clicked over 45,000 miles while I lost myself in the passing scenery. 40 became 74 & 74 became 129. Where are we going? I don’t believe I’ve been here before. The North Caroli na countryside was beautiful (blue sky with big fluffy white clouds, green grasses & vines, tall lush trees with hills & mountains in the distance, radiant flowers along the exits, & bales of hay in the fields with cows chewing & swishing their tails). About 4 hours had passed when we rounded a corner & came upon a place called Deal’s Gap, with dozens of parked bikes out front. There’s a huge metal dragon on the side of the road
giving away the secret. Holy Cow! This was on my bucket list! So, now we are on The Tail of The Dragon, famous for its 318 curves in 11 miles. As I mentioned, it was a beautiful day, so I’ll bet there were hundreds, if not thousands on “The Tail” that afternoon. Cars, hotrods, motorcycles, trikes, you name it, everyone was on this little two-lane strip in the middle of nowhere. So cool! Wouldn’t it be nice to be the only one on it, so you could lean into the curves & cross over the double solids, maybe hitting the throttle a little bit more? Honestly, my Man does a great job keeping our big cruiser upright, with me moving around on the back, taking a million pictures. Thankfully, there are professional photographers camped out along the corners clicking off a countless number of pictures, available online. HoneyBun bought every single one he could find! Hehehehehe! The Tail crosses into Tennessee (how many curves were there?) & we continued on to Sweetwater for the night. Bucket List item ticked off. Happiness isn’t around the corner; happiness is the corner!
Author’s background – Kathy started riding the Bitch Pad later in life after HoneyBun entered the scene & when asked why she doesn’t ride her own bike, she’ll comment that she’s “an accident waiting to happen” & she “trips over her own feet”, never mind “getting lost in malls”! No microphone or Bluetooth for this chick, just the sounds of the bike, the stereo & the world around her. She can sleep while riding, which is crazy but true. She has a camera that takes great pictures on the fly & enjoys regaling anyone within ear-shot about a memorable ride.

Springers Holds Benefit For Matt Hamilton
By: LincoLn infieLd eff schmiD and his crew at Springers
are big on supporting our military and first respond ers and host many benefits each year in accordance with this support. As soon as you enter Springers front door you will see multiple military, blue line and American flags, a welcome sight to all patriots. Re cently Jeff jumped to help former Greensboro Police Officer Matt Hamilton. Matt was let go from the Greensboro Police De partment after an incident in the line of duty and is now facing manslaughter charges. The attorney fees to defend Matt’s position will be quite high and Jeff along with other establishments were quick to set up benefits in Matt’s behalf.
The benefit was held at on August 30th during Springers popular Tuesday Night Bike Night. To raise money for Matt, Springers held a gun raffle featuring a Heritage MFG. Barkeep. This is a really cool pint-sized revolver with an Old West flair. The Barkeep was donated to the cause by Mike Case of East Coast Surplus and Tactical out of Asheboro, NC. Raffle tickets were $10 each and had been on sale for a couple weeks and had raised over $2600! One of Springers regulars won the gun after purchasing just one ticket and picked the gun up a few days later from East Coast Surplus and Tactical.
Jeff would like to thank Mike Case for donating the firearm and all the Springers customers who attended the benefit bike night and bought tickets or donated to the cause. A check was written for the $2600 and handed directly to Matt, just the way it should be done. Great job yall. Springers Bike Nights continue on Tuesday night and whether there is a benefit attached or not, it’s a great time! Make sure you check out their ad and keep your eye on the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for upcoming events!

Stanly County Rides - Volume 2
By: John ridenhour
he last time we roDe, in volume 1, we visiteD Booger Hollar, we discovered its myths and tragedies. Leaving Booger Hollar we traveled through the beautiful countryside and ended at the end of Old School Road. Now in volume 2 we will continue our journey through Stanly County or as some of us native to Stanly call it, Stan Co, and continue the ride we started several weeks ago.
So, starting at the end of Old School Rd you’re at the 3-way intersection of Old School Rd, Hazard Rd, and Hwy 138. At this point you’re going to go straight across 138 onto Hillsford Rd, being very careful as this is a dangerous intersection. As you begin down this road you will see what I have fallen in love with about this area, nature’s raw beauty. See this area you are traveling on at this moment is arguably some of the most beautiful scenery in the county including greenhouses, and a farm on this route. Oh, and did I mention there is an other low water bridge a mile down the road that has swim ming access?! Yes, it’s that kind of ride kids! As you arrive at the low water bridge the beauty of this place is amazing. Once you cross the bridge there is plenty of area to pull over and admire the scenery, or if you’re up to it, jump on in and cool off. Not recommended after September!
As you look out across Rocky River you will see little islands to chill on, the river is shallow enough to walk all the way across it. As far as myths or legends, there really isn’t anything that has anything to back it up for this area, so I don’t feel that it’s worth mentioning here. You can do your own re search and I definitely encourage anyone that’s finds anything please let me know.
Either way leaving Rocky River, heading up the hill the road changes names to Hillsview Rd, then about another mile it changes again to Rocky River Church Rd, at this point you have entered Anson Co for a few miles. As you ride this stretch of the journey, I swear you have to remind yourself that you’re not in the mountains, well I do anyway. You’ll be
Wanna Ride? Scan This Code To Get The Starting Location
heading towards Rocky Mount Baptist Church and you may want to stop and admire it. Then you will begin to come across some nice country with twists that will make you think you are in the NC Mountains.
Down the road you will come upon another one lane bridge with a hard 20 mile per hour left hand curve, yeah kind of sounds like the mountains, and several harder curves till you get to another 3-way intersection where you will turn left onto Cedar Grove Rd. Traveling down Cedar Grove you will be blessed with nicer flowing curves and open fields that are breath taking, especially in the fall and spring. Your next right turn which is Gaddy’s Ferry Road. Gaddy’s Ferry has some moderate curves, beautiful scenery you will be going across the Rocky River again. At the end of Gaddy’s Ferry you come to Plank Rd / Hwy 138 and the end of volume 2, also where volume 3 will begin safe riding till next time.

Tiny’s Tales From The Road
Support Your Local...
f there’s been a running theme in this Column it’s nostalgia. Nostalgia for the time when things were simpler and made sense, to me anyway.
I think as motorcyclists or “bikers” we’re predisposed to nostalgia. While motorcycles were invented around the time that horses became less common; horses and cycles shared the road for some time, believe it or not. But technology moves forward, nostalgia be damned, and horses were put out to pasture (bad pun fully intended) because we wanted faster “horses”. Long after the time that cars made more sense than motorcycles for choring and working we continue to ride them just for the sake of riding. For most people in the United States a motorcycle is a leisure vehicle, a luxury, and in some cases when the rider hits tough times it’s the first thing to go. Must sell, need it gone today.
Motorcycling as a leisure, past time or hobby has created an interesting industry. Practical motorcycles that make sense aren’t big sellers, we like big sexy V-Twins that make potato, potato sounds through an aftermarket exhaust pipe. Tuned for reduced fuel economy and modified to look as unstock as pos sible. We, mere mortals with high school educations turn up
noses at college educated engineers and modify our machines to make them personal expressions of our personalities, at least that’s what we want everyone to think!
When I first got into motorcycles there were no restrictions on what an independent dealer could sell or install on your motorcycle. It was yours. Slowly, those rights are being taken away for the sake of baby seals and rich people with eroding beach front property. Those of us invested in desert property on the west coast are welcoming the rising sea levels, but some people have the audacity to try to preserve the planet, one gross polluting dinosaur juice powered motorcycle at a time.
Independent dealers are fighting a two-front war. You’ve got Greta Thurnberg on one front and Jeff Bezos on the other. And then there’s the motor company, fighting its own war but just as happy to lob a few mortars at your brick-and-mortar store on main street just the same. Touch our bike and we’ll void the customer’s warranty.
When I worked at Birdneck Cycles in Virginia Beach I had some loyal customers who had been buying their parts from Birdneck since 1984. We were blessed with a lot of inven tory, some dating back to the 90’s. If you had a pre-85 Harley
big twin there was a very good chance we had every bushing, bearing or gasket you might need on any given day. The newer your bike the better the chances were that we would have to order what you needed. We just didn’t have the room or the operating capital to stock for vintage and late model Harleys. That was ok though, because neither did anyone else in our region, including the MoCO dealerships. We tried to provide the best customer service possible, because that was really the only thing we could offer to compete with online retailers.
I’ve bought parts online, I’m not saying I haven’t, but before I worked in a shop, I never realized how much online retail hurt brick and mortar stores. It’s easy to justify that if we must wait for a part we might as well order it from the comfort of the bathroom on our phone and have it shipped straight to the house. I think a lot of us take a hybrid approach to shopping. When we know exactly what we want or need we get it our selves, and when we need someone else’s expertise because we can’t figure it out, we go to a shop. I loved customers that knew what they needed, but those customers were fewer and further between than the old days. We appreciate all custom ers, don’t get me wrong, but some customers make us work too damn hard. It’s like peeling an onion sometimes, espe cially when it’s someone who bought a bike that was custom ized by a previous owner. Returns cost dealers money and we really want to help our customers, so a good parts seller will peel that onion back with you and try to figure out what you need. The best ending to this scenario is a happy customer. The worst case scenario is when the “customer” takes the in formation we worked out and then goes home to “think about it”. I had a knack for remembering those “customers” though, and they normally found me to be a lot less helpful the next time.

Are you ready to meet Jesus?
Some may think they’re ok living and doing the things they do, but boy are they wrong. Even some so-called Christians think they’re ok and if some serious changes don’t take place, they’ll never meet Jesus.
This year we have lost several close friends, but you know what, they loved and lived for the Lord, so I know with no doubt where they are.
Want to ask you a question, can you say the same thing if your life would end now? I can hear you say, I’m not going anywhere anytime soon, they didn’t think so either. We never know when our time is up.
Matthew 6: 19. Do not lay up for yourself treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where nei ther moth nor thieves do not break and steal. For where your treasure is there will your heart be also.
Our future on this earth doesn’t mean very much, we need to look at it as our eternal future. Some may say you don’t believe in God, but when it comes right down to it, I think everyone calls on His name at one time in their life.
Romans 14: 11. For it is written, as I live, saith the Lord,
every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess to God. Some day you will meet God, why not do it now?

Children’s Advocacy Fundraiser
By: BiLLy “BuLLdog” dagenhart tcMsc
fter many years of giving baC k to the Community you would think each year would be easier –not true! With high prices everywhere, sales and contributions were at an all-time low. The first 5 months looked weak, then August hit and Twisted members caught on fire! They were able to sell half of the remaining tickets in the final month and all we can say is WOW!
But the real heroes in all of this are the dedicated people at Children’s Advocacy and Protection Center of Catawba County. They take what all of us provide financially and put in to use, making a child’s life better than the days, months, or years before. We will never know what they’ve been through that brought them to CAPC but making sure they get quali fied professionals to get them the help they desperately need is essential.
Thanks to all the clubs, businesses, Blue Ridge HarleyDavidson, Tilley Harley-Davidson, Call Family Distillers,
Highlander Armory, Lagunas Printing, and individuals who took time to make this a great year! Supporting community is all our responsibility. Together we can move mountains and provide CAPC with $10,736.00, so they can be the face of child advocacy – coordinating a strong and swift response to sexual and severe physical abuse of children.
From Twisted Covenant Motorcycle Social Club, thanks again.

Three vampires walk into a nice, dark, dive bar. The bartender looks at them a little sideways, but decides to serve them anyway. “What’ll it be, boys?” The first vampire says, “I’ll have a Blood!” The second vampire says, “Mehh, I’ll also have a Blood.” The third vampire says, “I’m watching my figure, I just want plasma.” The Bartender smiles and says, “Got it. Two Bloods, and a Blood-Light.”
An engineering student is walking on cam pus one day when another engineer rides up on a shiny new motorcycle. “Where did you get such a rocking bike?” asked the first. The second engineer replied “Well, I was walking along yesterday minding my own business when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike. She threw the bike to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, ‘Take what you want.’” The first en gineer nodded approvingly “Good choice, the clothes probably wouldn’t have fit!”
An elderly man had owned his large farm in Louisiana for many years. Right at the back of the farm, there was a large pond that was ideal for swimming. The old farmer had fixed it up real nice with picnic tables, horseshoe courts and some apple and peach trees. One evening the farmer decides to go down to the pond, to look it over, as he hadn’t been down there for a while. Before setting off, he grabs a five-gallon bucket as he decides he’ll bring back some fruit. As he nears the pond, he can hear voices shouting and laughing with glee. Clearly, someone is having a good time. As the farmer gets closer, he can see a bunch of young women who are clearly skinny-dipping in his pond. He makes the women aware of his presence and immedi
ately they all swim over to the far end. One of the women then shouts, “We’re not com ing out until you leave, mister!“ The farmer replies, “Ladies, I didn’t come down here to watch you swim naked or make you get out of the pond. You carry on.” The wily oldtimer then holds up his bucket and says, “I just came down here to feed the alligators!“ Never underestimate a wily old-timer.
My buddy was in a motorcycle accident and lost half his foot. So now he’s handicapped. He’s still the same guy, but I just can’t hang out with him anymore. So, I realized some thing important about myself. I’m lack-toes intolerant.
An insurance agent visited his local muse um and accidentally knocked over a statue. The museum curator said to him, “That’s a six hundred year-old statue that you’ve bro ken!” The insurance agent replied, “Thank God for that! I thought it was a new one.”
A woman brings a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she lays her beloved pet duck on table, the vet puts his stetho scope on the bird chest and listens carefully. A moment later the vet shakes his head and says sadly, “I’m really sorry mam, but your duck, Cuddles, has passed away.” The woman becomes quite distressed and begins to cry. “Are you sure?” she says with tears flooding from her eyes. “Yes mam, I am sure” the vet responds. “Your duck is definitely dead.” “But how can you be so sure?” the woman protests. “I mean, you haven’t done any testing on him or any thing have you? Perhaps he’s just stunned or in a coma or something.” The vet rolls his eyes, then turns around and leaves the room. A few minutes later he returns with a black Labrador retriever. As the duck’s owner looks on in amazement, the Labrador stands on his hind legs, puts his front paws on the examination table and sniffs around the duck from top to bottom. He then looks up at the vet with sad eyes and shakes his head. The vet pats the dog on the head and takes it out of the room. A few minutes later the vet returns with a cat. The cat jumps on the table and delicately sniffs at the bird from its head to its feet. After a moment the cat looks up, shakes its head, meows softly and strolls out of the room. The vet looks at the woman and says, “Look mam I’m really sorry, but as I said before, this is most definitely a duck that is no longer of this world. Your duck is dead.” The vet then
turns to his computer terminal, hits a few keys and produces a bill, which he hands to the woman. The duck’s owner, still in shock, looks at the bill and sees it is $150.
“$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!” she shrieks with incredulity. The vet shrugs his shoulders and says, “I’m sorry mam. If you’d taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20. However, with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it’s now $150.“
An accident between a motorcycle and a car occurred yesterday. The cause was determined to be the motorcyclist riding recklessly. It was wheelie bad.
A man and a giraffe walk into a bar. After a few drinks, the giraffe falls over and dies. The man begins to walk out when the bartender stops him. “Hey, you can’t leave that lyin’ there!” The bartender yells out. The man turns around, “It’s not a lion. It’s a giraffe.”
There was a man who had worked all his life, had saved all of his money, and was a real ‘miser’ when it came to his money. Just before he died, he said to his wife, “When I die, I want you to take all my money and put it in the casket with me. I want to take my money to the afterlife with me.” And so, he got his wife to promise him, with all of her heart, that when he died, she would put all of the money into the casket with him. Well, he died. He was stretched out in the casket, his wife was sit ting there - dressed in black, and her friend was sitting next to her. When they finished the ceremony, and just before the under takers got ready to close the casket, the wife said, “Wait just a moment!” She had a small metal box with her; she came over with the box and put it in the casket. Then the undertakers locked the casket down and they rolled it away. So, her friend said, “Girl, I know you were not fool enough to put all that money in there with your hus band.” The loyal wife replied, “Listen, I’m a Christian; I cannot go back on my word. I promised him that I was going to put that money into the casket with him.” “You mean to tell me you put that money in the casket with him!?!?!?” “I sure did,” said the wife. “I got it all together, put it into my account, and wrote him a check.... If he can cash it, then he can spend it.”
