hope that everyone had a great summer. We made it! The vacation, the heat, the trips to Walmart for back to school stuff, and the eclipse are all behind us and we can drift back into “normal” life again. I cannot say that I am glad to see summer go, but it is what it is and we have no choice but to make the best of it, On the bright side, the weather in September is made for riding. We start out with Labor Day on the 1st Monday (4th) in September and the following weekend by Camel City Bikefest in Winston-Salem (9) and Thunder In The Smokies Fall Rally in Maggie Valley (8-10). Remember 9-11? Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson is hosting the Annual 9/11 Memorial Ride and many other rides will be held to remember those who were murdered and those who served on that infamous day. Carolina Coast Harley-Davidson will host the 12th Annual 343 Memorial Ride Presented by NC Red Knights, Chapter 6 and Rolling Thunder NC 1 presents the 8TH Annual We Ride For Those Who Can’t Remembrance Run, a POW/MIA Recognition Day Ceremony at NC Veterans Park in Fayetteville on the 16th. Tilley Harley-Davidson of Salisbury is the place for the 7th Annual Biker Blues BBQ Rally, BBQ Classic, and Poker Run For Veterans on the 15th & 16th. Come early and enjoy music, a bike ride, vendors, and KCBS and NC State BBQ Championship. This is a FREE event. The weekend of the 16th is loaded with events. I hope that you can attend one of them. On the weekend of September 22-24 Ray Price Harley-Davidson and GEICO present the Ray Price Capital City Bikefest And Motorcycle Expo in Downtown Raleigh. Vendors and Sturgis style parking on Fayetteville Street are just the beginning. This free event features a huge schedule of events indoors and outside on downtown streets, at the Raleigh Convention Center, and at the Ray Price Dealership nearby. DON’T MISS THIS ONE ! Read more about this event on page 5. Many dealerships will be having new model year open houses in September and those are always interesting to attend. Check out The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar in this issue or on line at FullThrottleMagazine.com for a complete listing of all the events in the 2-state area. Ride safe, ride sober, and watch out for those who are not paying attention while they drive.

CWC ABATE Sweaty Seat Scavenger Hunt Ride By: Kickstart & Donut This was the coolest, hottest ride of the year for the CWC ABATE Sweaty Seat Scavenger Hunt Ride. On Saturday, August 12, we all met up at 10:57 at RPM Cycles at 1630 Old Barnwell Road in West Columbia, SC. We had a lot of friends and members to start the day off to enjoy food and drinks and to get us pumped up for the journey ahead of us on the ride. The last bike out was at 12:57. We all got our little list of clues to solve the puzzle. Let me say this, it was not just a regular day on the motorcycle, it was a task to sharpen our skills to the point where we could all make ourselves look like a champ. The puzzle had lots of riddles to keep our brains active, thanks to Ed Hammond. His ...it was not just a assignment was to make regular day on the it a wild ride. The clues to motorcycle... the puzzle that we had to gather were from chicken bones (Bogarts), marbles (Archie’s Shack) paint sticks (Tommy’s), pictures of monkeys (Animal’s), wooden coins (The Ole Stomping Ground) and a match book (BOL).

Everyone shared their clues to help their biker friends out. Last bike was in at The Hideaway Bar was whenever we all got there. Thanks to Tom for his support (hope you like your plaque). Tom was also a winner of the Virtual Bike Show in our June issue of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. From there on we had several prizes, a 50/50 drawing, and of course the best hand winner for the ride. Congratulations to Denise Gagne Stamps for being the winner of the best hand and getting the big $100 cash prize, which she gave a donation of it back. gifts certificates, t-shirts, worst hand won a Harley clock, large signature door mats, cooler, grill, and free oil change from RPM Cycles. I think we all had a blast! Special thanks to Debra Tesnar who helped put this in line as well as many others. So, on a special note, Donut and I are pleased to be a part of a great ABATE team. GO CWC! Thanks, a whole bunch for all that this chapter does. You know you could change, but, why would you? So, we hope to see you at our next meeting held on the last Sunday of each month at 1:57 at Bogarts in 3 Fountains, we would love for you to visit. Until then, RIDE SAFE AND LOOK TWICE FOR MOTORCYCLES! Be sure to check out all the kool pictures online at www. FullThrottleMagazine.com.

Rollin’ On The River At The Roost Story and photo by Alan Dockery A great way to beat the summer heat is to point your front tire to Riders’ Roost in Ferguson, NC. The first August party was Rollin’ On The River and a great way to chill out for the weekend. With so many great roads nearby, some folks took off to ride. The rest of us relaxed in the shade or laid in the creek. Elk Creek water level, flow, and temperature was just right that weekend for those of us who love the water. Yeah, brief summer rain showers came by a couple times, but didn’t affect our good times. Late afternoon Everybody was when most folks the winner in the were out of the Dunkin’ Booth... creek, Dave, Steve, and Shaggy got back in for the Duck Race. For a buck a duck you could bet on one to be the quickest down the creek. Gail Zahran won with the first duck across the finish line. After the Duck Race it was supper time. Big Tim, Jody and crew put on a fish and chicken fry for supper. Y’all did a great job and everyone was stuffed.

Rollin’ On The River is the Riders’ Roost Charities fund raising event. This year it was Roosters Helping Roosters. We raised money for a couple of our own in need. Eddy Merritt has been in a coma since July. He was found in the road after a crash, no one knows what happened. Eddie “Rudy” Rudisill is fighting cancer. In addition to the other activities we had door prizes, raffles, and auctions to help raise money. Anyone who missed the event but would like to make a donation can do so with a check or money order made out to Riders’ Roost Charities, Inc. and mail to 100 Elk Creek Darby Rd. Ferguson, NC 28624. Tara McAllister had John Bedell tossing the bags back to her side as they won the Cornhole Tournament. Everybody was the winner in the Dunkin’ Booth, but a couple guys were good at putting folks in the water. The Dunkin’ Booth turned out to be fun and gave all those folks who have said, “I’d like to do that” a chance to get in. It was enough fun that now we need to make a “Splash The Rooster” booth of our own instead of renting one. Please, if you have an old dunking booth or real large tub to donate or sell cheap contact Dave. “Thanks to all the Roost family for coming together to make it happen. It came from across the whole group,” Dave said. “Wow! What a weekend! Our Roost Family sure does know how to show some love and support for those in need,” Dave said. “The rain may have kept a few people away but it did not hinder or stop us raising funds for two great men Rudy and Eddy.” “Thanks to the Rolling Saints Riding Club for donating all the delicious desserts for the fish and chicken fry, their donations, guidance, and support,” Dave said. “Also, we would like to recognize and show our appreciation for the door prize contributors: Gail Zahran, Debbie Clifford, Bonnie Beck, Patty Coffey, Bob McAllister, Tracy Sawyer, Advance Auto, Tyson Foods, O’Reilly Auto, Michael and Melissa Tucker, Double

Nazareth Children’s Home 3rd Quarter Birthday Party By: Darby Dillard August 5, 2017 was another very good birthday party at Nazareth Children’s Home! After some concern about a low turnout, we ended up having a very good time. See, some of our regulars were out of town and the response had been very slow, but as usual, when you do something for the right reason, God will provide. As the week of the party arrived, I found out that some of our regular supporters’ vacation plans had changed, due to the power outage, at the Outer Banks. Plus, we had 10 first time guests join us for the celebration. If it was your first time or you come on a regular basis. I thank you very much. We had about fifteen people meet at Speedway HD, for the ride to the home and about that many who went straight to the home. The residents at Nazareth were in a very good mood and were very happy to see us. Thank you again! In closing, I’d like to add if you have never visited, or you came only once and things didn’t go as planned and you made your mind up after only one visit? You’re missing out on the fun. Just as in life itself, some par-
ties are better than others. Come back or come again. We can use your support, for this cause, REMEMBER! It’s not about us. It’s about the residents at Nazareth. Thank you, Speedway HD, for you continued support. And thank you Law Petroleum, Smiley’s Cycles of Rockwell and Mack’s Auto, in Harrisburg. And a big thank you for those 10 first time attendees! 704-995-4097 bikerswithacause.com “The will of God will not take us where the grace of God cannot sustain us.” Billy Graham

Crow’s Last Ride By: John Briles We gathered at JC Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville, NC on Sunday, August 13 to say our final goodbyes to a great friend, Eddie Harmon, AKA Crow. Crow’s circle of friends was made up from many different groups, but his personality was always the same. He had many co-workers as he had been a truck driver for Harris Teeter for 38 years. He had a growing family with his wife of 39 years, Tootie, his son Aaron, and a glowing role as Paw Paw to his four grand kids. He also had his riding buddies and his bar room buddies, but he was always the same. He greeted you with a big grin on his face, a handshake or a hug, and sometimes even a kiss. He always made you feel welcome and at ease. He loved his family and his friends. He loved his blue Wide Glide and he loved his regular Busch beer, not Busch light. He loved a good story or joke and he loved telling his own stories. He loved to be around people just talking and laughing and you could always tell his laugh. It was like a crow’s call. But then there were the times when we would be at home and just have some quiet conversation and that’s when I real-
ized just how true a friend he really was. And now the Crow flies high like a free bird with a wing spread that covers us all. Fly high my friend, my brother.

Another Big Adventure With Charlotte CBA By: Rick Nail Besides fighting for biker rights and working on our swap meets, our Charlotte CBA family loves to get together and have a good time. We did just that very thing at the Buncombe County CBA Hot Springs Bike Rally in June. Buncombe County CBA has been putting on the Hot Springs Bike Rally for 21 years. They rent the entire campground in Hot Springs on the banks of the French Broad River. Charlotte CBA has several RV sites rented together and we have our own little village complete with an alligator swimming pool. There are bands playing on Friday and Saturday nights, bike games and people games on Saturday, with lots of partying both nights. Our Charlotte CBA family has a ride on Saturday to Bobarosa in Del Rio, Tennessee for lunch, then back to Hot Springs for swimming in the river. We always have a great time and plan on going back again next year. Plan on joining us for a GREAT time. Thanks to Buncombe CBA for their hard work putting on this Rally. Hope to see you there the 4th weekend in June. Everyone is welcome to join Charlotte CBA and get in
on the fun and the work. We meet in the meeting room at Iron Thunder, Concord Mills. Swap Meet meeting is the 2nd Wednesday of each month. General Business meeting is the 4th Wednesday of each month. Come out and become part of our Charlotte CBA family!

HLF Fund Raiser For Preacher Steve And Carolyn By: David Burnette I want to thank everyone who showed up at Cox’s HarleyDavidson for the fundraiser for Preacher Steve and his wife, Carolyn, of His Laboring Few Biker Ministries on Saturday, August 12. There was a pretty good crowd there and you couldn’t have asked for better weather. Eighty-six bikes and 118 riders registered for a nice ride though the country. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed some great food cooked up by Heavens Misfits CMC and Full Throttle Biker Church from Pleasant Garden, NC. Thanks to Brian Jones and Heavens Misfits and others for getting together and hosting this event. Music was provided by Benjamin’s Mantle and CJ Ballard. In all $3126 was raised to help this awesome man and woman of God offset Carolyn’s medical bills. If you don’t already know about preacher Steve and Carolyn Ervin they started His Laboring Few Biker Ministries back in 1990. They started out having bible studies in their home then it progressed to taking the gospel of Jesus Christ to the streets. The ministry grew to several states and Canada. They would go to rallies and swap meets, setting up tents and booths where they would share their faith with others and still do to this day. In 1992, they started the Harvest Camp, which is a drug and alcohol treatment program, where souls are being saved and lives transformed and set free from addiction. There is also His Laboring Few Biker Ministries at 812 MLK Drive

in Thomasville, NC. Church services are held there at 10:30 am on Sunday. Also from there they have many outreach programs, the store house, feeding programs, a huge outreach at Thanksgiving and Christmas where they provide meals and toys for families. Preacher Steve also operates Preacher Steve’s Leathers at 4470 Old US Highway 29 in Thomasville where you can purchase anything from your leather needs to a coffin, or as Steve calls them ‘to go boxes’! (lol). He’s there most days and doesn’t mind talking to with you or praying with you if you’re in need. Preacher Steve and Carolyn have given so much of their lives for others, it’s nice to be able to give something back to them. Thanks for all who give to their ministry. I can say that I’m proud to be part of this ministry. Y’all come visit sometime. Be safe and God Bless. ;)

Rebel Son At The Wizard Saloon Story and photo by Alan Dockery Y’all know what happens when my favorite Carolina band, Rebel Son, plays in my favorite biker bar, The Wizard Saloon in Hickory, NC? A whole bunch of my rowdy biker buddies come out for a good time. An hour before the show the lower parking was filling with bikes and the outside beer tub was cold. Rebel Son is a honky tonk, rockabilly, rock and roll band formed in 1996. Lee Johnson is the lead singer, guitar player, and songsmith. Dave Schneider strums the bass while Ron Kirk beats the drums. They have produced a whole bunch of great albums on their own Hot Rod Hell Records. www.rebelThe Wizard son.com ain’t a fancy These guys give place. fans an intense experience with their original songs. Rebel Son displays and sings about our Southern Heritage. Many of their songs express the thoughts, feelings and rowdy behaviors of my friends. Their songs can be foul-mouthed and about redneck life and offend some folks. But us fans do not care, we love it. I found the Wizard Saloon right after I retired from the U.S. Air Force and moved back to North Carolina 22 years ago. Mike Dyson has owned and run the Wizard for 30 years. It didn’t take but a couple beers before I figured I love that guy’s bar. Mike coordinates the local Conover School Toy Run and I was looking for info and seeing how can I help. “Back then nobody liked bikers. Folks stayed away from
bikers,” Mike said. “You didn’t want your daughter going out with a biker. I’ve loved motorcycles all my life. I’ve changed what could be bad people into good people. Same way with this bar. It was a bunch of trouble. A drug den. We cleaned up needles around the place. Then it was a pool room for years.” The Wizard ain’t a fancy place. It’s in the basement. Kind of hard to give directions to if folks don’t know that area. And those of us who do have a different name for the roads than what the signs show. But it is worth it if you like a small, friendly local biker bar. The Wizard is the oldest biker bar in Hickory and every day and night bikers are welcome, not just one day a week. “A wizard is by definition a person, someone who can

change things,” Mike said. “I wanted to make a place where bikers could come. Change the image. Give them a place to go and raise money. For many years upstairs was the Wizard Restaurant. Good old fashioned grill food and cold beer packed the place for lunch with factory workers and folks from all over town. It was a good place for motorcycle groups to meet. Mike says he is planning to open the restaurant again soon. Music has been a focus at The Wizard since early on. Mike was working there before he bought it and saw how some bands packed the place. I meet folks who tell me about the feelings when their band played at The Wizard and how they have enjoyed others there. Touring heavy metal bands have been the Saturday night routine for a few years. Now Mike is booking more local rock bands. If your band wants to play The Famous Wizard Saloon call Mike. Thursday is Jam Night so if you want to join in come on down and play. Or just sit back and enjoy the jam. Rebel Son played here seven years ago. I remember the show and they didn’t pack the place since lots of folks didn’t know who they were. But now those guys are famous and draw a crowd of fans. Mike says they will be back and The Wizard should be on the band’s yearly schedule. It was good to see lots of friends enjoying Rebel Son. One of those is a friend who I met at a shooting match years ago when she was wearing a Rebel Son shirt. Lori Chatman said, “Hickory’s most legendary biker bar, The Wizard Saloon, had a great sold-out show with Rebel Son. They are a kickass group of guys. The originality of their music makes them one of a kind. Lee Johnson never forgets his fans, taking time after the show to greet and take pics with them. It’s easy to relate to them because they are just “good ole boys making their way the only way they know how.”

Carolina Faith Riders Bike Night By: Wally Wersching The Carolina Faith Riders sponsor a Bike Night at the Forest City, NC Sonic restaurant every Tuesday evening starting at 6:30PM. I went to one on Tuesday, August 1st, and had a very pleasant time. The people there are very friendly, and the food is pretty good, too! Cheeseburgers were half price. I left home about 5:30 heading west on Rte. 74. I veered to the right onto 74A. After a few miles, and a couple stoplights, I turned left into the Sonic parking lot. I looked around as I pulled in, and saw a few bikes already parked. After I parked, I started to visit with the people who were there. I gave out a couple of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazines. More bikes pulled in, and before I knew it, the tables, and the parking lot were full. I met a few friends from last year’s Bike Nights along with Mike, the president of the Carolina Faith Riders. We had a very pleasant talk about a little of everything, but mostly motorcycles. I enjoy watching the bikes pull in, and then go talk to the rider about his bike – especially if the bike is unusual. Most bikes were Harleys or Harley wannabees. Just as I was about to leave, I saw a group of bikers riding in on Honda Groms. The Honda Grom was first sold in 2014, and

The 125cc engine, and four-speed trans make it reliable like a full-sized bike. It will go over 60 mph, and get 134 mpg. It looks like it would be fun to ride. When I looked at the Grom, the engine reminded me of my old Honda 90. That bike would run forever. I would imagine that the Grom will be very reliable, too. I had to walk over, and talk with the young daredevils. To my surprise, one of the men was a friend of a friend. We got a laugh about that. It’s a small world. We talked for a while about rider safety. All the men had motorcycle licenses but none of the young men had taken a motorcycle safety course. I told them about “BikeSafe North Carolina”. I hope they go to a class. It’s free, and it might save their lives. www.BikeSafeNC.com I left for home about 6:45. The ride home was refreshingly cool. I made it home in time to walk the dog. It was a great way to spend an evening with friends. I will do it again soon. They hold it every week all summer long.

Mama P’s Incredible Friends By: Rick Gammons I know you remember the unbearable heat with a huge splash of humidity around the 22nd of July. As a matter of fact, that Saturday was the hottest day this year, so far. It takes a lot to stop a biker from helping someone in need, but there were several calls declining to ride that Saturday because of the heat. Debbie Pendleton and her husband Steve needed help. Debbie was diagnosed with lung cancer Folks, this is and Steve has been right a hard row by her side through this to hoe. nightmare. Folks, this is a hard row to hoe. This is Debbie’s second round with cancer. She beat the first one and everyone who knows her knows that she will do it again! Anyway, the American Legion Post 87 in High Point, NC hosted this cancer ride for Debbie. It was smokin’ hot, but 34 motorcycles showed for her ride. These heroes didn’t even notice the heat. Ride captain, Tim Gulledge, led the riders to Liberty Tavern, JJ’s Watering Hole, Jr’s Tavern and back to Post 87. This was a poker run, but no

one drew a card during the run. The ride was strictly for the fun of it. The card drawing was done back at Post 87 after the ride. This was a new concept for me, but I liked it. Next was the auction. Wayne Hill bought a lot of the items there, then donated them back to be auctioned again. Thanks Wayne! You are good people. Joe Pigg and his buds started early in the morning, cooking pork shoulders. It must have been 150 degrees at the cooker, with no relief, even when stepping away. Those fellows hung in there for the entire cooking! The food was great... and a lot of it. Pork shoulder, slaw from Country BBQ, baked beans, corn on the cob, potato wedges hot dogs, and fixins. This was a serious meal! Great food with great people. This party went on all day. After the ride, the draw, the auction and the food, everyone had music for the evening part of this celebration. This is a tight group of heroes, deserving of extreme thanks. Debbie and Steve are SO VERY THANKFUL and blessed. At this printing, Debbie has finished her cancer treatment. She goes back soon to see how effective the treatments were. Pray hard for Debbie. She still needs the support of the biker community (and non-bikers, too). Several thousand dollars were raised for her. This will help pay for a small portion of her medical treatment. Thanks for all the help from every person involved with this fantastic event!

STE Powersports Customer Appreciation Day
By: Gary Steelman STE Powersports held a customer appreciation day on Saturday, August 12, despite the threat of rain and uncooperative weather. The staff was kept busy making deals on bikes all day long. The bikes were rolling in and out, people were enjoying the free refreshments supplied by Shelby’s Place in Love Valley, NC. STE sponsors a bike night at Shelby’s Place every Wednesday night 6-10 pm. The vendors were selling everything from hotdogs and ice cold drinks to rain gear and riding boots. Handmade jewelry and custom painted signs and a wide array of used parts for the Harley in need. The Red Knights Chapter 13 had a table set up offering a free ticket on the 2017 Indian Scout 60. There were a lot of tickets given away at STE on Saturday, someone’s gonna win a new Indian Scout! Then the clouds parted after noon and the bikes started rolling in, the temps went up and the bikini girls started washing those bikes. What a day! Bikes shinning in the sun, and nothing beats that just washed look, if you know what I mean. The music from “Almost Famous” was great and the guys played all day long. The sales staff Clyde, Susan, Matt, and the gang want to
thank everyone for making the day such a great success and invite you to stop by STE Powersports at 1426 Northside Drive in Statesville, NC and check out their inventory of previously owned motorcycles.

Women’s Freedom Ride 2017
By: WildThing According to the Motorcycle Industry Council In 2014, the estimated number of motorcycles owned by females is 14 percent, a 50% increase over the last 10 years. And 61% of these women riders, ride a cruiser style motorcycle, according to a survey by Women Riders Now, a popular online newsletter for women riders. More recent figures show the percentage of women riders nearing 18%. ‘We’ve come a long way, baby’, as the saying goes and this notion is certainly personified in the Women’s Freedom Ride 2017. and show support for all women riders. At the same time their intention is to help veterans and bring awareness to the impact women riders have on the motorcycling community. I am sure as these riders traverse the country, they surprise many other road occupants when they see a string of 24 – 40 motorcycles in their rearview mirror! Then when the motorcycles pass them, to see that all the riders are women!
That must cause quite a stir! Creator and Executive Director, Karen Collins, spends the better part of a year preparing for the ride which began with the first one in 2013 and diligently screens the organizations the ride supports. Each year, the beneficiary of the funds raised goes to an organization that uses 90%+ of their revenue for their cause. By the way, Karen is passionate about supporting our military and veterans. In 2017, Karen chose The Patriot Rovers, an organization that acquires and trains dogs to become service animals for veterans struggling with PTSD or traumatic brain injuries. Saturday, June 3 was the start of this year’s ride at Low Country Harley-Davidson in North Charleston, SC with KSU at 7am. Low Country has been a premier sponsor since the ride’s inception. There were twenty-four ‘core group’ riders, who rode with Karen on the entire trip. By entire, it means 19 states in 18 days! Most days they rode anywhere from 400 to 600 miles some on a 13 to 15-hour riding day. They racked up 6000 miles worth of riding. There were three occasions for layover days that the ladies would take a break, do a little laundry or sight-seeing, or just chill. Along the route, many others joined the ride for as long as they are able. Rain suits were a must this year as they told me about half of the days the weather was rainy. Kudos to these tough gals. Think of it, they started out on Saturday June 3, headed out west rode through western NC, into TN, KY, IL, MO, KS, CO, WY, UT, had a layover in ID that included a side trip to Yellowstone, then MT with a stop at Devil’s Tower, SD for 2 days in Sturgis with sightseeing at Mt. Rushmore or Crazy Horse Monument or riding the Needles Highway,

then on to MN, WI for 2 nights in Milwaukee, IN, OH, back through NC stopping at Tilley’s HD in Statesville on June 20, then on to the end, back to Charleston, SC. All along the route Karen planned stops at motorcycle dealerships who hosted the women for meals and refreshments and then provided them with the opportunity to advance their cause to folks that had been made aware of the ride and its cause and raise funds toward their goal. Karen had scheduled 18 fund raiser events on the ride. Additionally, even at gas and rest stops, where no advance announcement was made, the sight of all these women riding motorcycles caused folks to ask what they were doing and many times resulted in additional donations. The last day of the ride, the women left Statesville for a short run to Lowell, NC home of Indian Charlotte. Dave Cantara, Patriot Rovers, Inc. expert trainer was on hand there and the riders were privileged to meet the beneficiary of the Patriot Rover trained service dog. This female combat vet served three tours in Iraq, becoming 100% disabled on her last tour. Karen starts the ride with the Pledge Of Allegiance, then they fold the American flag and carry it folded on the entire trip and the riders presented the flag to this veteran. That must have been a terribly moving moment. Total funds raised on the Women’s Freedom Ride 2017 was $19,471.94 and a giant check in this amount was presented to Dave Cantara at the Patriot Rovers Ride on July 29th at Down Home Harley-Davidson in Burlington, NC. Karen and several of her core women riders were on hand for the presentation.

To find out all about Patriot Rovers, visit their website: PatriotRovers.org. To learn more, ride next year, or become a sponsor, contact Karen Collins at 704-267-4450 or email her at WomensFreedomRide@gmail.com. She’s already starting to plan for 2018. The kick-off will be at the International Female Ride Day next spring with an escorted ride from Low Country HD in Charleston, SC to Myrtle Beach. Karen says: “I have so many great memories from each ride, that it’s hard to pick just one favorite…riding through the canyons going into Utah, the wolf running out in front of me, and seeing the amazing look on Carol’s face as we rode through Yellowstone on the way to Montana, looking back and seeing you all dance... but most of all the laughter.”

14th Annual Texas Roadhouse Motorcycle Ride By: Thomas Phillips I set out early on the morning of August 6th for the 14th Annual Texas Roadhouse Motorcycle Ride. I saw the ride posted in the Crusin’ Calendar here in our very own Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and that it benefits Homes For Our Troops. That’s when I decided to tag along and see what it was all about. The ride started at Texas Roadhouse on Two Notch Road in Columbia, SC. Registration was from 8-9:30 am with kick stands up at 9:45. I was greeted with open arms by the main organizers of the event: Jackie Brown, Steve Goulet and John Siemers. Jackie Brown with Texas Roadhouse and her wonderful crew did an amazing job taking care of everyone. Starting with breakfast before the ride and again with lunch at the end, but we will get back to that. Steve Goulet and John Siemers are the backbone of The American Legion Riders, Chapter 193 out of Chapin, SC. These two gentlemen organized the ride along with many other things, including getting Texas Roadhouse involved over 4 years ago. This is the 14th Annual nationwide benefit for Homes For Our Troops, but this is the 4th annual local SC ride, and what a ride it was! It was simply the perfect sunny day for the event with a great turn out of over 133 bikes! The cost was $25 for a single rider and $40 for two up. What do you get for the money? I’m so glad you asked! A very nice custom t-shirt for starters. Then there was breakfast of eggs, bacon, gravy PARTS & SERVICE FOR biscuit, and your HARLEY MOTORCYCLES choice of coffee and juice. But wait, don’t forget lunch! That’s right, No Appointment Needed! once we arrived over at Harley Haven in Irmo, SC there was BBQ, CERTIFIED HARLEY EXPERT TECHNICIANS beans, buttered NC STATE INSPECTION STATION corn, and a roll waiting on the (980) 439-5203 crowd. I would 505-A Pitts School Rd NW also like to add Concord, NC 28027 that they had coolCorner of Pitts School Rd NW and Weddington Rd ers full of water store.splittailcycles.com to keep everyone

hydrated, again, no charge! There was also beer for sale for just $1. That’s better than happy hour prices! The ride itself was escorted courtesy of Richland County Sheriff’s Department, which helped keep everyone together and safe at the same time. They really went above and beyond especially since it was a Sunday ride. The route was excellent as well, 58 miles of back roads got us where we needed to go and kept us smiling, because we were NOT on the highway! Once we arrived in Irmo there were several vendors set up, along with plenty of tents to help keep people out of the hot sun. I would also like to mention the many great prizes that were available through raffle ticket purchase or silent auction. The shear variety of prizes was incredible, too much stuff to list here, but you get my drift. Harley Haven also offered air conditioned comfort supported by a top-notch sales staff, greeting everyone with a smile and always eager to help. Taking care of the entertainment was the Robbie Cockrell Band. They really did a great job and if you like country music I highly recommend looking them up. I was also told they always make themselves available for this event which speaks volumes for their character as well. Now, let’s talk about what this event is all about. I had the honor of meeting the most recent recipient. Robert Barber is a veteran with a complete amputation of his right leg who moved into his new home back in February of this year! Not only that, but he is still riding! Robert rides a Can Am Spyder, which I have to say is awesome! Wind therapy is as good as it gets folks. I will wrap this up with a huge thank you to all our veterans out there. You simply can’t go wrong with the combination of a great day, a great group of people, and a great cause.

Ride In Peace By: Rick Nail On August 5, Jimmy Littlejohn rode over the mountain, never to return, except in our hearts and minds. Jimmy left behind a wife and daughter, his blood family, his biker brothers and sisters, and his CBA family, all of whom will miss him badly. Jimmy owned Littlejohn Cycle in Lenoir. He and his wife Bernetta and his crew had been a fixture at our CBA Bike Show & Swap Meet for many years. The shop will continue to operate and will be at the next swap meet. Jimmy was the type of man, that at the end of every swap meet, he made an effort to thank me and other CBA members, for working hard to put on a good show. I could look forward to that at every show. Please keep Jimmy’s wife, Bernetta, his daughter, Haley, his brother, Danny, his sister, Susan, and his father, Bob, in your thoughts and prayers during this trying time. Ride Free, Jimmy. You will always be in our minds and our hearts and our thoughts.

the Gastonia Airport, and the Lake Wylie/Clover, SC area. It serves the counties of Gaston, NC and York, SC - as well the surrounding counties. The 100% Volunteer Staff educates while fostering acceptance and understanding of the special needs community. Each rider learns horsemanship and responsibility by grooming their own mount – forming a bond of love and trust between rider and mount, as well as improving strength, coordination, motor skills, balance, and confidence. Independent riding fulfills the goals of strength and ability. Games and trail rides encourage the student to achieve optimum physical ability, as well as emotional reward. For more info: http://victoryrides.org. On July 22nd, the Dixie Drifters Riding Club held a dice run to raise money to help support the Victory Farm. The skies were clear with no rain in the forecast. It was going to be a very hot afternoon, but not too hot to ride for a good cause. It all started at the Dixie Drifters clubhouse at 1157 Franklin Blvd. in Gastonia with free breakfast of sausage and eggs. The run went to Zippers, the Fat Parrot, and the Southern Gentlemen’s Clubhouse to roll the dice before it returned to the Dixie Drifters Clubhouse for a free BBQ dinner. Also available were door prizes, 50/50 drawing, and other ways to raise money. I arrived at the Dixie Drifter Clubhouse about 9:45AM. They were all working hard - getting ready for the event. They had a little trouble aligning the tents to cover as much of the area as possible. It was going to be a very hot afternoon, and shade would be necessary for the riders coming in to eat. At about 10AM, Bull started cooking the sausage and eggs on the gas grill. Even under the tent, it was already uncomfortably hot. The gas grill was putting out a lot of heat, and Bull was cooking more than the food. He was cooking himself as well. Luckily, he had enough cold water to drink to prevent heat stroke. When Ears came, Sleepy sent him and another club member to Zippers to record the dice rolls of the bikers who would arrive. There would be club members at all the stops to record

the dice rolls. I remember doing that when I belonged to the local HOG Chapter. It’s fun to meet all the participants, and watch them try to get a winning hand. I brought a stack of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazines and placed them on the registration table for the participants to enjoy. There was a steady line of bikers coming in to register. Many were eating the sausage and egg breakfast. Bull became very busy trying to keep up with the demand. Another club member had to help with the eggs. The Dice Run went better than expected. There were over 50 bikes, and more than 70 people who came to enjoy the food, and friendship of their fellow bikers. I saw bikers hugging as though they hadn’t seen each other for years. Many times, it’s events like this that renew old acquaintances. The Dixie Drifters were honored to be able to donate 100% of all the money raised to such a worthy cause as the Victory Farm. They are looking forward to their 3rd Annual Autism and Special Needs Dice Run next year. Keep an eye out for it in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar and mark your calendar because you won’t want to miss it.

The Highway To Charity Poker Run
By: Dew and Everette “EZ” Short On Sunday, August 6th, the 1st EVER Highway To Charity Poker Run went off without a hitch in the sweltering heat that is the dog days of summer. It was so hot that we could have cooked eggs on the sidewalk that day. First of all, there was so much support from our local businesses that almost everyone left a winner from all the donations. It wouldn’t be fair to the readers to list all the thanks we had, since it would take several pages. Let’s just go with our primary sponsors like Elliott Reality, the NMB Pilot Club, The Finish Line Bar and Grill, and Captain Archie’s. Scott Britt from 17 Customs hosted the event where everyone started dous work they’re doing for our local the day with a few minutes to dream, roam and less fortunate youth. around, and drool over a lot of big engine The inspiration to start this poker beauties with lots of good, shiney chrome run came one night while Dew, also and some really spectacular paint schemes. from 17 Customs, was sitting on the The last bike rolled out of couch, reading an article the lot around 2pm, to meet about a charity where up at The Finish Line Bar, CEOs were getting rich where everyone got a chance from donations and took I just knew that to meet Julie from Julie’s the proceeds from the I wouldn’t ride Kids. people who deserved it. alone. riders showed up to bring their support for a worthy cause. I just knew that I wouldn’t ride alone. Dew, Scott, and the team at 17 Customs love this community and say they are glad to be a part of it. Everyone on the ride was truly happy to help those in need. Thanks to everyone who rode with us, we gathered over $2,000, that was split equally among the four charities and we hope to see even more people at the next event. 17 Customs also sponsors a bike night at Captain Archie’s every Thursday come rain, shine, or 100º weather. Dew hopes to do this poker run annually and possibly more. He says that he would like to encourage everyone to look around themselves, right where you are, to find a charity in need. Alone, it’s almost impossible to change anything, but, when people come together, we can change the world. You can find pictures of that day and all the other events in this magazine online at www.FullThrottleMagazine.com under the 2017 EVENT PICTURES tab. 15th Annual Christmas In July Toy Run By: Kelly Wescott The 15th Christmas In July Toy Run was held on July 15th, 2017. Is that a coincidence or what? We had a great event for Duke Children’s Hospital again this year, raising $13,419.50 in money, and $6,500 in toy donations for a total of $ 20,119.50. Over 375 participated in this day-long event. The Christmas In July Toy Run actually kicks off much earlier in the year, with events beginning June 10th at Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson, June 30th at the Pembroke Wal-Mart, raising $ 1,254, July 11th with Bike and Corvette Night at Texas Roadhouse, and July 14th at Legends Pub with the Kickstart Party. Saturday, the 15th of July was hot, not only the weather, but the event itself! Bright and early, we had a breakfast sponsored by the HOG Chapter of Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson. Thanks, ladies and gentlemen, it was great. Many vendors including Bob 96.5 Radio, Bikes Whips and Things, Pages Hydro Dipping, The Faith Riders, Cycle World, and more greeted us as the registrations were going on. Raffle tickets and 50/50 tickets being sold, and music was in the air as old and new friends were meeting. The atmosphere is party like with whole families attending. During the pre-ride, many raffle prizes were given away and a 50/50 raffle held. Many monetary donations were given by different groups, including M Ministry, Greg Hunt Builders,
Team Corvette, Texas Roadhouse, the Steele Angels, and The Borinqueneers. Thank you all. Soon, it was near 10 a.m. and time for business. Thank you to Harnett Central JROTC who did a fabulous job of posting our American Flag and playing our National Anthem. A visit from our Sherriff, Ennis Wright, our safety briefing from Cumberland Co. Sherriff’s Deputy, J. Yergear, a prayer of blessing for us all, and it was kickstands up, engines roaring. Time to ride! What a caravan we had, led by a Cumberland County Deputy, and 4 NC Highway Patrol officers, 32 Corvettes, 230 motorcycles of all types, a trailer full of toys pulled by Parrot Bay Pools, and our rescue vehicle riding approximately 70 miles to the hospital. We rode fully escorted from Fayetteville up Highway 401 to Lillington and through Fuquay Varina escorted by Fuquay Police. Holly Springs Police escorted us to Highway 55, where the Apex Police Department and the Cary Police took over. We took the scenic route up Highway 751 to 40 and the Durham Freeway. The NC Highway Patrol officers did a wonderful job of stopping traffic so we could ride uninterrupted. Safety is our number one priority, and staying in lane is so important, as the officers are running up both sides of the vehicles, lights flashing, to stop traffic at the next intersection. It is an awe-

some sight! The Durham Sherriff’s Department and Police Department along with Duke’s Campus Police escorted us into the parking garage. We had no incidents to speak of this year, other than a little rain, on the way up or on the way home, which was terrific. During the ride, we saw lots of people waving, but a couple of things stand out this year. On Highway 401, just south of Lillington, there were some DOT workers working on the road. Sometimes with the police lights, people think that we are a funeral procession. Three of these young men stood at attention, with their hard hats over their hearts while we passed. It was a touching and kind thing to do. I hope they know that even though our group is a toy run, their action did not go unnoticed. Another family outside of Fuquay-Varina greets us every year on their front lawn, waving American flags and waving. Their number keeps growing every year and we also look forward to seeing them in their yard. Riding with us this year were lots of returning friends and a few ones! The last couple of years we’ve had Team Corvette, and for many years, our friends the Borinqueneers, The local HOG Chapter, the Wingmen of Fayetteville, the Dogg Pound MC, the Chrome Knights (who I think led this year with 15 riders), the American Legion Riders, the Steele Angels, and #1 Stunna’s. New friends include the Leather and Lace Sisterhood and Tru To The Game. Welcome, hope you had fun and will return! Also represented were the Sons and Sisters Motor Ministry, 20/20 MC, the Tri-Wheel Family, many Combat Vets and others. Thanks to all participants. This would not happen without all of us riding and donating. Once at the parking garage, our traditional lunch from Texas Roadhouse was waiting for us, hot and delicious. Texas Roadhouse is so organized! BBQ chicken, pork, cole slaw, green beans, and rolls were welcomed by all. Very efficiently they fed us and had us on our way. This year, a new treat, ice cream sandwiches for the walk to the hospital, were provided by Hog Country, thanks to all, a great lunch! At the hospital, the line to bring the toys in was quickly formed and soon a small mountain filled the lobby. Kelly, a hospital spokeswoman, spoke about how the toys are used, and where they sometimes go, to different children’s organizations. A family with a child utilizing the hospital also spoke about their struggle, and how the hospital had helped them. There were a lot of first-timers that rode this year, and I know they learned and appreciated what we had all done to help. To some of us, this may be a 1 or 2-day event, a small ride with a couple of toys, but to the hospital, it is important, and they rely on us and look forward to this every year. They are very grateful for our support. Thanks to all who made it possible. Every single person and toy adds up. Riding back to Fort Bragg Harley was hot, hot! We arrived at music by Lotus Sun, a local band who sang and played great, doing some wonderful original songs! I look forward to seeing them again. There were more vendors this time, including funnel cakes, Sandwich Mikes, jewelry, Harley products,
53
and Bob Karney, Carolina’s Biker Lawyers. The party atmosphere continued with more raffle prizes given away including a bike tire, Harley Motor Clothes, Tshirts, Harley gear, jewelry, pool towels, gift certificates, and much more. Another 50/50 raffle was held, and an auction for a set of Harley Corn Hole boards earned $120 for the hospital. All prizes are donated and we always have some good ones! This event could not be held without a lot of help from corporate partners. A huge thank you to Fort Bragg HarleyDavidson, the Winford Foundation, M & M Leather, Lippards NAPA Auto Parts, Parrot Bay Pools, Cycle Works Inc., Double D Productions, JEB Designs, the Beasly Media Group, Cargill, Greg Hunt Builders, Mission: M25, Cycle Gear, TAIONEMEDIA, Backwoods Customs, Texas Roadhouse, Dan Heiman State Farm, Hog Country, Fullers, and Top Of The Line Auto Sales. Once again, this ride would not be possible without the excellent planning and execution of two men, Will Winford, and Ponce Chavis. They make this possible. Fifteen years of growth, more riders, more sponsors, more fun, and ultimately more money and toys for Duke Children’s Hospital. Make plans to ride with us on the 2nd Saturday in July next year. You will be glad you did.

CWC ABATE Sponsor Appreciation Party By: Kickstart & Donut Saturday, July 22nd was hotter than a ghost pepper! We had a good ole’ time at the BOL AKA The Bar Of Lexington. To show some of our support, as they always do for us, we wanted to make a fun day with one of our long-time sponsors. We planned this out for a few weeks to make sure lots of friends and family were aware of this great day in SC. We had all you needed to make this a fun time with friends. So, at 12 noon it all began to warm up with Mr. Radar on the grill. Man, he did it up just right as he always does. Thank you, Radar. We had steaks and all the country fixins like grandma used to make. We had live music inside, but the party was mostly outside kickin’ back under an ole’ oak tree where things got funny. Somehow the empty buckets of beer turned into full buckets of ice cold water and a lot of people got soaked from head to toe. Be sure to check out all the pictures online at FullThrottleMagazine.com. 50/50 done and was given to someone, but who knows, after a large time like we had. I can say the CWC ABATE always puts on a great event no matter what we do. You know why? Cause We Can! We could change, but, why would we? Thanks to everyone that came out for this celebration. Charlie and Patty were very happy. We hope to see you all for another sponsor event somewhere, sometime. Until then, you all ride safe.

Fill Grace’s Closet Fun Run By: Bill Gallaway On Saturday, August 5th, a dozen bikers showed up to help a local charity. Riders began to register at Triple D’s Sports Bar in Walhalla, SC beginning at 11:00 a.m. In addition to the ride, poker hands were available with 60% donated to Grace’s Closet and 40% to the high hand. Riders went to Mullen’s Irish Pub in Seneca, SC followed by a short visit at the Pickens Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Area Office. Upon arrival, we were met by Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander and Ms. Thwanda Davidson, a counselor at the facility. There is so much that this office provides the community so I’ll try to be brief. These are the key words: Assessment, Disability Management, Training, Job Search, Job Matching, Internships, Apprenticeships, On-The-Job Training, Foundational Workplace Training, and more. Such as how do you write a resume, how to interview, how to dress, how to act. You learn the how-tos in a non-stressful workplace environment. The showroom was full of people and deals on HarleyDavidson motorcycles and MotorClothes. I heard horns blow at least twice indicating that someone bought a new HarleyDavidson motorcycle. There were 113 entries to win the Street 750. The Wolf personalities were introduced by Ray Perry, Smokin’s General Manager/Owner. The plan was to draw 10 names out of the

tumbler at a time until there were only 10 entries left. The crowd thinned out with each successive group that was disqualified. The last ten were called up front. Out of the 10 finalists, 7 showed up for the chance to win the motorcycle. Ray demonstrated that one key actually would start the bike and then put the7 keys all in a box. Each contestant in turn selected a key and after several failed attempts Gregory Hill inserted the key that turned on the ignition switch. Even though some were disappointed, there were cheers all around for the winner. After that, Brother Bill Dodson held the raffle for some really nice items donated to the cause. All proceeds from the day’s events went to benefit Step Up For Soldiers (www.StepUpForSoldiers.org) an all-volunteer 501[c]3 nonprofit organization founded to provide disabled veterans who experienced loss of limb and mobility problems with the resources necessary to adjust in a post-war environment. You talk about a winner of a day? How can you beat BBQ, live music, a benefit ride, a motorcycle giveaway, and all to help disabled veterans! Stop by Smokin’ Harley-Davidson at 3441 Myer Lee Dr. in Winston-Salem, NC and check them out. They are open Monday - Saturday: 9am - 6pm and Sunday: 10am - 4pm. Check out their ad in this issue and watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar in print or online at www.FullThrottleMagazine.com for future events. Benefit Run For The Kilah Davenport Foundation
By: Wally Wersching On May 16th, 2012, Kilah was a healthy, happy, energetic 3-year-old when she was left alone with her stepfather while her mom was at work. Within hours, she was in the hospital, beaten so brutally that she was not expected to live. Although Kilah survived for 22 months after her abuse, she passed away on March 13, 2014. The severity of Kilah’s abuse brought about the awful realization that her abuser would only get a maximum sentence of 44 to 92 months in prison when convicted. Kilah’s situation initiated a call for more severe punishments for child abusers. The Kilah Davenport Foundation was started in November 2012 to help visitors learn more about child abuse, and share information about Kilah’s journey. The Kilah Davenport Foundation was formed to encourage activities meant to prevent child abuse. It also provides educational and other resources for victim families that have suffered abuse. Go to: https://kdf2.azurewebsites.net for the whole story with photos. With a ton of support, “Kilah’s Law” was signed into law by North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory on April 23, 2014. The law increases the penalty to a minimum of 125 months in prison for the person who abuses a child under the age of 16. The law also requires that there be a permanent record of child abuse in the defendant’s criminal history. On May 20, 2014, North Carolina U.S. Congressman Robert Pittenger was responsible for making “Kilah’s Law” a national law when President Obama signed “Kilah’s Law”. The dice run held on August 12, 2017 was to raise money for the foundation, and keep Kilah’s memory alive. The run started at the American Cycle Works in Gastonia, NC. The first bike was scheduled to leave at 11am, last one out by noon. The donation was $15 a hand. There were four other stops along the way – the Bear’s Den Bar and Grill, the Highway 55 Diner, the Dixie Drifters Clubhouse, and ending at T’s Fat Parrot. There were only a few bikes in the lot when I arrived at

10:30am. I walked around greeting old friends, and making new ones, too. I wanted to know more about the reason for the run. I spoke with Kilah’s mother, Kirbi, AKA “Mama Bear”, and she told me the whole story about what happened. It was very emotional. I could not imagine what she had to go through when she was also pregnant with her son. She is a very strong woman. She said that the Guardians of the Children (GOC) organization helped a lot. Their mission is to recognize and react to child abuse and educate the public to do the same; to serve as advocates to provide strength and stability to families in crisis; and be an answer to the prayer of an abused child or teen for courage, support, and protection. As we were talking, a large group of bikers rode in – mostly GOC members. They all came up, and gave Kirbi a hug before they went inside to register. As it got closer to the time to leave, people were using the GPS on their cell phones to locate the stops they hadn’t been to before. I had been to all but T’s Fat Parrot. Many of the bikers were talking about that place. They have new gravel in the parking lot. It’s so loose that motorcycle tires sink into it. At the last event, a couple bikes went over, and had to be pulled out. The owner said that the parking lot will be compressed down in the near future. At about 11:30, Cuzz, of the GOC gathered everybody around and told of the upcoming run. They were planning on running it in a group with road guards blocking the cross streets when necessary. A run that large takes a lot of coordination. They have done it before many times so they had the experience to pull it off. After they all left the lot, I headed home. I had things to do in Shelby later in the day. Cindy and I went to our favorite restaurant for lunch. It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

Speedway Harley-Davidson 4th Anniversary Celebration By: Rose & Lloyd Speedway Harley- Davidson celebrated their fourth anniversary on July 22nd and 23rd. It was a great day with music, food, and games for all ages. If you were ready for a new bike they were having a trade in sale, and general merchandise sale. Everyone enjoyed the music, the food was provided by Speedway Harley- Davidson HOG Chapter. 26 Acres Brewing Company provided cold beverages, and Fat and Sassy Concessions.
I think everyone enjoyed dunking the owner, Aimee, who volunteered to be in dunking booth. A lot of children and adults were having a go at trying to dump her in the water, and since it was close to 100º, several others were also willing to take her place. Many thanks to all that participated to make this a success.
To all the bikers that came out to enjoy the fun. Nicholas, the new marketing director did a great job pulling everything off. Both days were a great success, which proves why Speedway is the top dealership in the area. A big congratulation is due to all the bikers that got a great deal and rode home on a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Mostly a huge congratulation to Aimee on her new additions to the Speedway family, the recent birth of her twins. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the annual Arzie Rogers Memorial Toy Run November 18. Watch for the date in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar and in the Speedway Harley-Davidson ad.

By: Rose and Lloyd Every Sunday is “Sunday Fun Day “ at Double D’s Burnout Saloon. Sunday, August 12th added a little more excitement. DJ Andie Cooper from New Country 104.1 was there, along with Billy Creason and the “Dam-Fi-No” band, and Rosie’s food truck. There was a lot of drink specials, and fun games with the radio station to win tickets to the “Big And Rich” concert. As always there are a lot of people you know and love, friendly faces, and a great day at Double D’s Burnout Saloon. Double D’s has become the hang out of choice for many in the Triad area. We find friends there that we have ridden with many years ago. Now this can’t be a coincidence, I think it has a lot to do with the feeling David and Missy give Double D’s Burnout Saloon. When the doors are open, a hug lets you know you are welcome and appreciated. So, come on out to Double D’s Burnout Saloon at 1408 E Mountain Street in Kernersville, NC and enjoy the fun. Every Sunday they have a live band and Rosie’s food truck is there, but you never know what else David may have up his sleeve.

Holding The Fork Bros & Bro-ettes, Have you ever thought about how it will be when you die? Ever wondered how many will come to your funeral and what they will say? I guess that it all depends on you and what kind of person you were and the life that you lived. Hopefully, we’ll all be saved and be in Heaven, and walk on the streets of gold and have no more sickness, no cancer, or limbs missing. We’ll all be whole and having a good old time. I read this today and thought it was really good, and what a way to go. There was a lady who went to the doctor and she was told she had cancer and only 3 months to live. She went home and called her pastor and asked him to come over. She told the pastor what the doctor said. They talked about her funeral and she told him where she wanted to be buried, what dress she wanted to be buried in, what songs were to be sung, what scripture to be read, and also to put her favorite Bible in the casket with her. Suddenly she remembered one other important thing to her. She told the pastor to be sure and put a fork in her right hand. He looked at her kind of funny and even though he agreed, he didn’t say anything. She told him that food was a very important thing at a church get together. She remembered that every time they finished the main course, they would say keep your fork. She
said, by that you knew something good was coming like cake or pie. She asked the pastor to explain about the fork in her hand at the service. The pastor told her goodbye cause he knew it would be the last time he would talk to here. Something better always comes after the main course of a meal. Same as when you pass away. She knew something greater was waiting for her when she passed, Heaven. The doctor’s eyes welled up with tears because he knew she had a better grasp on Heaven then he did. Do you want to leave this earth holding a fork? Hebrews 1: 10-14. You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth. And the Heavens are the work of Your hands. 11- They will perish but You remain; And they will all grow old like a garment; 12- Like a cloak You will fold them up. And they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not fail. 13- But to which of the angels has He ever said, “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.” 14- Are they not ministering spirits (angels) sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation (kingdom of God)? In His Wind, Ms. Pat

RIP Randall Stanley Collier AKA Popeye 6/23/55 – 7/17/17 Popeye Collier as his friends knew him passed away quietly in his sleep on July 17, 2017. His love in life was family, friends and motorcycles. He is survived by his son, R. Stephen Collier; mother, Sadie Collier; sister, Cathy Lookadoo and husband David; grandchild, Aiden Christian Collier; as well as his niece, nephew, great nieces and great nephew. Popeye had a big heart and would do anything he could for others. He never met a stranger and could put a smile on everyone’s face that he met. Popeye was a member of the local motorcycle community and hung with the Original Wild Bunch (OWB) back in the day. A celebration of Life was held at noon on July 22, 2017 at Proximity United Methodist Church in Greensboro, NC. Visitation was held prior to service conducted by Craig Peak. First off, they played Simple Man by Skynyrd and emphasized “There is someone up above”. Then he read from 1 Timothy 1:15: “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” The point

was that Christ was the Apostle Paul’s hope even though he was chief of all sinners, which led to the main thought of the message: If Paul could be saved from sin and hell, there is hope in Christ for everyone of us. Christ gives us all hope was the message. The family received friends in the fellowship hall for a meal after the service. There was an abundance of food and friends. It was great to see many old mutual acquaintances, although it would have been better under different circumstances. The family laid Popeye to rest Saturday, August 12th at Guilford Memorial Cemetery in Greensboro, NC.

Steele Angels 13th Annual Back To School Dice Run By Wendy Rogers The Steele Angels held their 13th Annual Back to School Run on August 5th. This year, instead of a poker run, it was a dice run. Everyone rolled 5 dice at each stop with intentions of getting all high numbers. There were 5 stops, it started at Legends and then proceeded to JB’s, Louie’s, The Creek, and ended at the Dog House. That’s where the food was ready to eat and the winners were announced. The highest roller won $100 and the lowest roller won $50. There several nice door prizes given out along with a 50/50. Many school systems are not supplying the kids with what they need and it is up to the parent to provide for them. Unfortunately, there are several parents that can’t provide for their children and that’s why the Steel Angels and many other organizations are raising school supplies for these children. Remember these children of today are our future and we need lots of focus and attention in this area. The Steele Angels want to thank all of their sponsors and a great appreciation to all of the participants this year. Without these type of people these events would not be possible. The Steele Angels will be having their 14th Annual Toy Run, November 18th. Please mark your calendars for this great event that will help many children that will not have
Santa unless provided by a charity. Watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for future events.

7th Annual Patriot Rovers Ride For The Fallen
Saving Dogs, Helping Veterans And Honoring Heroes. By: Buzz Patriot Rovers is a healing mission that honors fallen heroes by partnering with Gold Star families to name a service dog after their fallen family member. Then they provide the professionally trained and certified Psychiatric Service Dogs along with instruction, therapeutic group camaraderie and support services to veterans struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury as a result of their service to our country at NO COST. What an awesome program! The 7th Annual Ride For The Fallen was hosted by Down Home Harley-Davidson in Burlington, NC. By the time Wildthing, Bad Brad, and I arrived there was already a good line of motorcycles staged for the ride. We got registered and strolled around the parking lot while bikes poured in to support the Patriot Rovers. There were a good handful of Patriot Rovers service dogs and their handlers in attendance. Before we left on the ride, David Cantera, a U.S. Army Veteran, Canine Behavioral Expert, and Founder Chairman of the Patriot Rovers, took the mic and expressed his thanks for everyone in attendance, and gave recognition to the Gold Star Families that were present. We had the honor of witnessing 3 Patriot Rovers “graduate”
their training as they were awarded to the veteran that they were trained to assist. There was no lack of appreciation from the veterans who received the Rovers. Long hugs and many words of thanks were shared while the Rovers were outfitted with their new service vests. After the graduation ceremony, David showed us all a presentation filled with images of our fallen heroes as he called their names out. Many of the heroes’ pictures we saw were locals and some had Rovers named after them. There wasn’t a dry eye as we remember these brave Americans who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and way of life. As we composed ourselves, Karen Collins, Creator and Executive Director of the Women’s Freedom Ride took the mic. Karen and the ladies that are a part of the Women’s Freedom Ride had taken donations as they rode on a 18-day ride that went through 19 states. Wow! Those ladies not only have a heart of gold, but they ride hard and as a result, they awarded David a check in the amount of $19,471.94 to go towards the Patriot Rovers’ mission! We got some instruction from the CVMA chapter that was heading up the ride, we saddled up and followed our police

escort out on a ride. It was a nice sunny day and we had a leisurely ride out through the Alamance County country side. Let me tell you something, I was tempted to go back for seconds, and I would have, if I weren’t full as a tick! While were enjoying this feast, there was a band rockin’ out on the stage behind us. They played some great rock-n-roll tunes and had the crowd tappin their toes. The Patriot Rovers had a booth set up were you could pick up your Patriot Rover support gear and visit with some of the up and coming Rovers. We visited with David and his wife Pam, the rest of the Rovers crew, and petted some pups to finish out our day. The Patriot Rovers mission is an ongoing mission and all who would like to help can visit their website at www.PatriotRovers.org. On the site there is a list of ways you can get involved and help them with their mission. I am looking forward to next year’s Patriot Rovers Ride For The Fallen, keep your eye on The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar and put this worthy cause on your calendar. I hope that you will join us next year.

Raffle For The Ride
By: Bill Gallaway Saturday, July 22nd was the revised date for the “Raffle For The Ride”. Originally planned for Saturday, June 24th, the date was changed due to slower than expected ticket sales. The fundraiser was planned by Randy Hunnicutt of the Southern Survivors MC and Bobbie Smith of ABATE of Oconee County, South Carolina. The plan for the charity was to acquire an older bike, do some upgrades, and sell tickets, with the proceeds going to charity. The chosen charity was the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Greenville, SC. With things beginning to fall into place and ticket sales picking up, it was time to plan the “FUN” part. Since FUN is the first 3 letters of fundraiser, Randy contacted George White of the Walhalla SC VFW Post 6830 to set things up. And with the help of ABATE of Oconee County, everything was moving

along. The charity bike was a 2000 HD Heritage Softail. The band scheduled was “The Rocky Bottom Boys” who sing bluegrass, southern rock, and country music. The day of the event, the BBQ was cooking away and plates of baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw and pork were served to attendees with tea or your choice of beverage from the bar. Attendees started to arrive around noon for the event, and since it turned out to be the hottest day of the summer, folks sat around shooting the breeze, eating BBQ and getting acquainted while listening to the band. There were around 100 folks in attendance for the drawing, which was held at 5 p.m. The celebrity guest was Ms. Lisa Nalley, better known as “Lisa In The Morning” of radio station Sunny 107.9 WFBS, who drew the winning ticket. The winner of the bike was Ms. Carolyn Norris, and the other winners were the children at the Shriners Hospital in Greenville and everyone that was involved in and attended the event.

Biker Appreciation Day At The Filling Station By: Kickstart & Donut On Sunday, July 16th was a great time for local customers and bikers to come out to the Filling Station for free food and entertainment. This was held for a biker appreciation day that we had been waiting for, for a long time. The bar opens at 3pm on Sundays, so if you need something to do on a Sunday to prepare As Toby Keith yourself for a would say, Monday this is a good place “I love this bar”. to unwind. The Filling Station is located at 2208 Memorial Drive in Cayce, SC. Thanks to owners and CWC ABATE Chapter members, Chad Lynn and Tammy Hinson Lowrey, for making this a day to remember. They had a fullblown spread of food that covered at least 2 pool tables, drink specials, and then some. They had a cover band called King Nothing that played some badass Metallica music from 4-7. The music was awesome. Thanks for a great show, guys.
So, being here on this day and seeing the crowd, I think that I can say thumbs up all the way. I hope they will continue to have more events to keep the bikers coming. As Toby Keith would say, “I love this bar”. Thanks for being an advertiser in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. We will see you again. RIDE SAFE.

Catawba Valley HOG Rides Saddle Sore 1000
By: Pete Weinrich During the planning of a trip, someone suggested that if I traveled another 50 miles then turned around and came home and did it under 24 hours, I would qualify for the Iron Butt Association’s Saddle Sore 1,000. Comments like that get riders thinking, and I’m one rider whose thinking ability has occasionally been in question. Some quick online research into the topic and my mind was made up. I was going to do a Saddle Sore 1000. Two days before I planned to leave on a round trip challenge to complete the Saddle Sore 1000, I announced my intentions to the Catawba Valley Harley Owners Group (CVHOG), and offered everyone the opportunity to ride with me if they wished. Two riders, Fred Fortman and Chris McCall accepted the challenge. We would take a round trip through Tennessee,
Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and return home to North Carolina. We departed Blue Ridge HD July 14, 2017 with three main goals; complete an official Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000, increase our points with the ABC’s of Harley, and visit our new sister store in Madison, Alabama. We also intended to have fun (this year’s chapter goal), enjoy the ride, and see some of America from the seat of a Harley-Davidson (the best way to see America). The Saddle Sore 1000 is a welldocumented ride consisting of over 1,000 miles in less than 24 hours and is sanctioned by the Iron Butt Riders Association. It’s just one of many sanctioned rides, and a great starting point for anyone interested in endurance riding. Historically, Harley’s are the minority when it comes to endurance riding, with BMW, Honda, and other makes leading the field, but the number of Harleys participating has increased over the years

from the texting/eating/cell phone talking and day dreaming cager crowd. As we entered Alabama and mile marker 301.2, the tall rocket could be seen proudly pointing skyward at the rest stop. A reminder of Redstone Arsenal and Huntsville’s contribution to rocketry. We downed a quick snack, and then on to Huntsville and the Redstone HD dealership. The youngest in the group, Chris, commented “I’m getting too old for this”, causing two of us to just shake our heads and reflect on our younger years. Silently I reflected that maybe the day will come when I will, in fact, be too old for this, but that day has not come yet and Fred and I were thoroughly enjoying the challenge and the ride. Six miles out from our destination, the sky turned black and we were getting soaked. At this point, the rain felt refreshingly cool and we decided to tough it out and continue straight to the dealership. We arrived at Redstone HD before closing, entering the lot with lights flashing and horns sounding. We were greeted by waiting staff members expecting our arrival. We made some purchases, T shirts for my wife and Chris’ fiancé’, and took an opportunity for several photos with the staff while we dried off. Redstone HD graciously provided us with food and hot coffee, a quick tour, and best wishes. Forty-five minutes later we said our goodbyes and again put the rain gear on due to the storms. The temperature had dropped back to 85 degrees as we headed south on I-65 again. Another stop for fuel in Gardendale, AL and then on to Montgomery, AL where our dealers

father owned Montgomery HD. We arrived after dark but still managed a few more photos, fueled up again, and headed for I-85 North towards Atlanta, GA and home. The weather looked clear on radar and the rain gear was stowed away for the final time. It was now about 81 degrees outside and the sun had set, so riding was comfortable and we enjoyed the countryside as we drove north. Another quick stop at Hogansville, GA for coffee, snack, and some fuel, and then on to Carnesville, GA, passing through Atlanta and headed towards SC. Other than construction in Atlanta, the roads were clear, the night sky amazingly beautiful, and the ride enjoyable. We continued through South Carolina, into North Carolina, stopped briefly as we exited I-85 and turned due north on 321 towards Hickory. IBA required documentation of the major turns, so we added fuel at the 321 exit before continuing. Arriving in Hickory, we obtained our last time stamped receipt to prove our completion of the Saddle Sore 1000, obtained witness forms, and then proudly rode into home base at Blue Ridge Harley. After a long ride, most would look towards home and a comfortable bed, but the HOG chapter was meeting at 9AM for a breakfast ride, and we were hungry. Chris and I took a quick nap on the porch while waiting for the other chapter members. Fred toughed it out and had gained a second wind. I heard him telling of the trip as I faded out of consciousness for a power nap. I remember footsteps, and awoke to find riders had assembled for the breakfast ride. Time to get up, wash the road grime from our faces, and join the group for breakfast. My wife had been awake and making notes about the weather, temperature, road conditions, and average MPH for most of the trip. This morning she drove from home to film our arrival and witness the end of the ride. She brought her helmet. She would ride with me, while Chris’ fiancée’ joined with him and we lined up with CVHOG for our Saturday Breakfast ride. Twenty-eight miles later and we were in Morganville for an all you can eat breakfast. It seemed as much a challenge as the 1000-mile trip, and we eagerly accepted the challenge. We had existed on bananas, power bars, water, and some coffee for over 24 hours on the road. Eggs, pancakes, sausage, biscuits with gravy, juice, coffee and more were looking really good at this point. As we stacked each used plate and headed for a clean one and more food, we told our stories to the rest of the group. That discussion quickly turned to the question of: What’s Next? One potential answer is the “IBA Four Corner Ride” that encompasses the four corners of the US, from Florida, to California, to Washington and Maine. Our documents have been mailed to IBA for the SS 1000 certifications, while the thinking process has again begun in my head. Now, how to get enough time off from work to do this?

Richmond County Benefit Rides And Events By: Beth Gorman Rain or shine motorcycles showed up with toys and donations to help Toys For Tots and the Hope House in McColl, South Carolina. Luckily, the rain held off so everyone had a great time. This is the fifth year that the owner (Bear) of The Water Hole has had this event. Every year it gets larger and the donations keep increasing. Each month, The Hope House opens its doors for the community to come and receive food, clothing, toys, cleaning supplies, and other necessities families in need can use. Around the holiday season they try to make sure that children and families receive gifts as well as necessities. The benefit that The Water Hole puts together every year helps make this happen with the physical and monetary donations they receive from their benefit run. The Water Hole is located in McColl South Carolina and is a great establishment with a very friendly atmosphere. If you have never been, I recommend stopping by for a cold

soda or other beverage. You’ll feel like part of the family. Currently, Bear is in the process of renovating the back of the establishment to accommodate even larger venues. After the ride finished, there was great food and music for the rest of the evening. The benefit also had an auction and 50/50. Next year’s event is already in the works and Bear and crew are hoping it will be even larger than this year. Over the same weekend there were two other benefit events that I attended to help local members of the Richmond County Community. The first one was at the Hudson Brothers and it was a benefit for Brian Leviner who was robbed at gunpoint and shot and had to have major surgery. The proceeds of this event went to help him and his family with the medical expenses. Ol Skool Tribe RC and other motorcyclists in the community came out to show support. Hardwired rocked the house that evening as well. RCO Bike Night was the coordinator for this benefit and has put together quite a few events recently to support the Richmond County community and the biker community as well. The last event I attended that weekend was with Carolina’s Finest MC and Playaz Elite. One of their members “Legend” recently had a house fire and these two groups put together quite a feast on Friday at Carolina’s Finest MC Clubhouse. There were several local motorcycle riding groups present to show support and Saturday they had a great turnout for their ride as well. Overall it was a great weekend with several motorcycle clubs and organizations, great rides, great friends and family, and lots of support for our community from all types of motorcyclists. Looking forward to some great upcoming events in September in Richmond County. Make sure you check out The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for more information on the upcoming events.

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! At our house we call it “pickin” and it is symbolic of your acceptance in the group. We live in the United States Of The Offended, so get over it!!
Joe and John were identical twins. Joe owned an old dilapidated boat and kept pretty much to himself. One day he rented out his boat to a group of out-of-staters who sank it. Joe spent all day trying to salvage as much stuff as he could and was out of touch all that day and most of the evening. Unbeknownst to him, his brother John’s wife died suddenly. When he got back on shore he went into town to pick up a few things at the grocery. A kind old woman there mistook him for John and said: “I’m so sorry for your loss. You must feel terrible.” Joe, thinking she was talking about his boat said: “Hell no! Fact is I’m sort of glad to be rid of her. She was a rotten old thing from the beginning. Her bottom was all shriveled up and she smelled like old dead fish. She was always holding water. She had a bad crack in the back and a pretty big hole in the front, too. Every time I used her, her hole got bigger and she leaked like crazy. I guess what finally finished her off was when I rented her to those four guys looking for a good time. I warned them that she wasn’t very good and smelled bad. But they wanted her anyway. The damn fools tried to get in her all at one time and she split right up the middle” The old lady fainted.
A bad ass biker moved into a nudist colony. He received a letter from his grandmother asking him to send her a current photo of himself in his new location. Too embarrassed to let her know that he lives in a nudist colony, he cut a photo in half, but accidentally sent the bottom half of the photo. He was really worried when he realized that he sent the wrong half, but then remembered how bad his grandmother’s eyesight was, and hoped she wouldn’t notice. A few weeks later he received a letter from his grandmother. It said, “Thank you for the picture. Change your hair style. It makes your nose look too short. Love, Grandma”
Two women friends had gone for a girl’s night out. Both were very faithful and loving wives; however they had gotten over-enthusiastic on the Bacardi Breezers. Incredibly drunk and walking home, they needed to pee; so they stopped in the cemetery. Neither had anything to wipe with so one of them thought she would take off her panties and use them. Her friend however was wearing a rather expensive pair of panties and did not want to ruin them. She was lucky enough to squat down next to a grave that had a wreath with a ribbon on it, so she proceeded to wipe with that. After the girls did their business they continued on home. The next day one of the woman’s husband was concerned that his normally sweet and innocent wife was still in bed, hung over; so he phoned the other husband and said: “These girl nights out have got to stop! I’m starting to suspect the worst. My wife came home with no panties!” “That’s nothing,” said the other husband. “Mine came back with a card stuck to her butt that said.....’From all of us at the Fire Station. We’ll never forget you’.”

A French policeman stops the Englishman’s car and asks if he has been drinking. With great difficulty, the Englishman admits that he has been drinking all day, that his daughter got married that morning, and that he drank champagne and a few bottles of wine at the reception, and many single malt scotches there-after. Quite upset, the policeman proceeds to breath test the Englishman and verifies that he is indeed completely hammered. He asks the Englishman if he knows why, under French law, he is going to be arrested. The Englishman answers with a bit of humor, “No sir, I do not! But while we’re asking questions, do you realize that this is a British car and my wife is driving on the other side?” “911, can I help you?” “Hello! Help! Send someone over quickly,” the old woman screamed into the phone. “Two naked bikers are climbing up toward my bedroom window!” “This is the Fire Department, lady,” the voice replied. “I’ll have to transfer you to the Police Department.” “No, It’s the Fire Department I want!” she yelled. “They need a longer ladder.”
A Mafia Godfather, accompanied by his attorney, walks into a room to meet with his former accountant. The Godfather asks the accountant, “Where is the 3 million bucks you embezzled from me?” The accountant does not answer. The Godfather asks again, “Where is the 3 million bucks you embezzled from me?” The attorney interrupts, “Sir, the man is a deaf mute and cannot understand you, but I can interpret for you.” The Godfather says, “Well ask him where my damn money is!” The attorney, using sign language, asks the accountant where the 3 million dollars is. The accountant signs back, “I don’t know what you are talking about.” The attorney interprets to the Godfather, “He doesn’t know what you are talking about.” The Godfather pulls out a 9-millimeter pistol, puts it to the temple of the accountant, cocks the trigger and says, “Ask him again where my damn money is!” The attorney signs to the accountant, “He wants to know where it is!” The accountant signs back, “OK! OK! OK! The money is hidden in a brown suitcase behind the shed in my backyard!” The Godfather says, “Well....what did he say?” The attorney interprets to the Godfather, “He says... go to hell... ...that you don’t have the guts to pull the trigger.” A couple is trying to have a baby. Finally, the blonde tells her husband, “Honey, I have great news! We’re pregnant, and we’re having twins!” The husband is overjoyed and says to his wife, “Honey that’s wonderful, but how do you know so soon that we’re having twins?” She nods her head and says, “Well, I bought the twin pack pregnancy test and they both came out positive!”
A senior citizen drove his brand-new BMW Z3 convertible out of the car salesroom. Taking off down the freeway, he floored it to 90 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through what little hair he had left. “Amazing!” he thought as he flew down I-95, enjoying pushing the pedal to the metal even more. Looking in his rearview mirror, he saw a police car behind him, blue lights flashing and siren blaring. “I can get away from him - no problem!” thought the elderly nutcase as he floored it to 110 mph, then 120, then 130 mph. Suddenly, he thought, “What on earth am I doing? I’m too old for this nonsense!” So he pulled over to the side of the road and waited for the police car to catch up with him. Pulling in behind him, the police officer walked up to the driver’s side of the BMW, looked at his watch and said, “Sir, my shift ends in 10 minutes. Today is Friday and I’m taking off for the weekend. If you can give me a reason why you were speeding that I’ve never heard before, I’ll let you go.” The man, looked very seriously at the policeman, and replied, “Years ago, my wife ran off with a policeman. I thought you were bringing her back.” “Have a good day, Sir,” said the policeman

Davidson County CBA ABATE Attends National Night Out
By: Jim Everhart On August 1, five members of the Davidson County CBA/ ABATE of NC renewed the pledge to return to National Night Out after being absent about 8 years. In attendance were Papa Jim and Mama Sue Everhart, David and Judith Speight, and our MSAP Instructor Glenn Lowery. We had two motorcycles on display as well. We had enough exposure to advise a fellow that hadn’t been on motorcycles for 20 years, though he’s held a license all this time, where he could take a rider course to refresh his skills. I directed him to DCCC where I used to teach for ten years. He took membership and CBA information and I hope to see him again in the future. We spoke to a host of others, a lot of older riders, “used to” riders, etc. We met one lady who was visiting her daughter in Lexington. She was originally from New York but was currently living in Florida and plans to move to the Lexington area by the end of the year. She had to have photos with Mama Sue and I and in front of David’s motorcycle with her grandchildren before she left. She took membership information and CBA literature as she was concerned about NC helmet laws in NC when they would be moving back – so I’m sure I’ll see her and her husband once again. We had former and original member Allen “Tattoo” Hutton and his family stop by and talk with us a while. We haven’t seen him in forever other than on Facebook. Former member “Lawyer Dave” Doherty even stopped by our pop up a couple of times as well. We’ve seen him a couple of times through the Moose Lodge and helped put out campaign signs for him in the last election cycle; which will happen again in 2018. All in all, it was great to be in the new the Breedon Insurance Amphitheater venue, instead of being crowded on Main Street. The Lexington Police Department was excited that we were back and worked with us. They even helped us unload and set up the pop up tent. We will be back next year!
