H
ere it is – December! The year’s rallies and events are over and it is toy run season in the Carolinas. One look at The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar reveals that there are ever so many of them and it breaks my heart to think that there is that much need out there, but there is. However, it makes me proud to see the number of bikers who donate money and bring gifts to families and kids they don’t even know. But that is who we are. It is in our nature to be generous. We do not do it for recognition. It is an offering of love. Have you ever cried on a ride? I have. It is a very humbling experience to ride up to a children’s home on a $20,000 motorcycle and see the kids who just want someone to love them and a home to call their own. Shakespeare wrote, “All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances,” Yet it is hard to be festive when we get below the surface and contemplate what their lives will be like after we roar off to the next destination. However, the focus of the moment is the joy of the Christmas season and the gifts at hand. The youngsters are anxious. For them it is all about the gifts. No fault there. It is what it is. But there is a gift that continues to shine long after the wrapping paper is thrown away and everything returns to “normal”. It is the love of God who gave his only Son that we may have life through Him. We may be instruments of His love on these rides. I like to think so. But have you considered the greatest gift ever? It is a gift of love for us, every one of us. All you have to do to unwrap this gift is confess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that he died for you. Believe it in your heart and the gift is yours to keep forever! Why not today? The scripture says “As I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow to Me, and every tongue will give praise to God. So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God. Do it today so that Jesus, who is always able to save those who come to God through Him, will intercede for you on that day. “And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. The angel said to them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” This is the reason I say, “Merry CHRISTmas”.
Wise men still seek Him!

Cover Story
Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson
On July 11, 2014, Cape Fear Harley-Davidson officially became the all-new Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson. New owner Chris Doherty’s vision is to make Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson one of the premier Harley-Davidson dealerships in the United States. His methods are simple, yet powerful. “You find the best people in the industry, you train them, then empower them to do their jobs!” As the owner of several auto dealerships in North Carolina and Florida, he has proven that this formula works. “The Harley-Davidson motorcycle community is a unique and passionate group. I’ve ridden for years and as a rider, I really understand what our customer’s want…. a dealer that supports the local community, talented staff, a great selection of inventory, events, and basically a Kick-Ass Customer experience!” New General Manager, Ken Vitulli, relocated from Huntsville, AL to Fayetteville, NC and has over 20 years of experience in the motorcycle industry. He has owned and operated several dealerships representing all of the major brands. “Operating a Harley dealership is the coolest job on earth. You have a customer that is passionate about the product, staff members that are equally passionate, and I get to put them together and watch the magic happen,” said Ken. “It’s really all about the customer experience, the product sells itself. My goal is that each and every customer leaves here just a little happier than when they arrived. Whether they’re picking up a poker chip or a Screaming Eagle CVO, the experience should be the same.” Ken began his career as a tire changer, and moved his way up to General Manager and Ownership positions. “What I found out along the way is that it’s all about the people. As Harley dealers, we all have motorcycles, parts and accessories, clothing and service departments. The difference is really the people. It’s what makes every dealer unique… the better the people, the better the dealer.” Sales Manager Bill Bales bought his first bike for $400 in 1977. As a Gulf War Veteran, he piloted UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters, today, he pilots a 2014 Screaming Eagle Limited! “This is the greatest job in the world, I’ve been selling Harleys in Fayetteville, NC for 17 years. The new ownership has given me the opportunity to really grow and learn the business.” Bill and his staff recently set the dealership record for bikes sold in the month of October, a record that stood since 2004. “There’s nothing more fun than watching a customer ride out on their new Harley-Davidson, and to know that I helped them get it!” Jennifer Phillips came on board as the Finance Director during the ownership transition. She has extensive experience in finance and has been a big part of the recent growth at Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson. “I LOVE my job! Bill finds them the right bike, and I get to find them the best solution to both finance and protect their investment.” Jennifer recently attained Platinum Status with Harley-Davidson Financial Services. She’s also the proud new owner of a 2015 Harley-Davison Softail Deluxe. “I couldn’t help it, being around the bikes every day

and seeing how excited our customers are when they get their new bike…. yeah, I just had to get one of my own!” “We have over 70 years of experience in our Service Department at Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson,” said Justin Vassillion, Service Manager. “My first bike was a KE100, I paid $100 for it!” He’s been riding ever since. An Army Veteran who did a Tour of Duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Justin attended Motorcycle Mechanic’s Institute and spent 5 years as a Harley-Davidson Advanced Technician before being promoted into the Service Manager position. “I really like to interact with the Harley-Davidson riding community and our customers. It’s an honor to work with Harley.” Starting off on a 1990 Harley-Davidson Sportster, Rob Mas now rides a 2013 Harley-Davidson Road Glide. He’s had 5 other Harleys in between. Rob spent 9 years selling HD parts, and is currently the Parts Manager at Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson. “I think it’s exciting to see all of the new products that the Motor Company comes out with every year”. Rob added, “The new ownership has really invested in the dealership. I now carry a larger selection of parts and accessories, and we recently improved our ordering process, so we can now get the parts the customer wants, when they want them!” Nancy McCall has worked with Harley-Davidson for the last 14 years. “You name it, I’ve done it; Parts, Accessories, Service, Motorclothes…” said Nancy, the General Merchandise Manager at Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson. “I just love the atmosphere and the family here at Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson. With the new ownership, I’ve been able to add on staff to better serve the customers, and carry a larger selection of Motorclothes and riding gear.” Nancy’s most recent bike was a Street Bob. “I love to see the old faces, and the new ones coming into the dealership, like I said… family!” “Now, there’s so much going on at Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson”, said Christine Montgomery, Marketing Manager. “It’s been fun to have the freedom to set up and implement the events here at Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson.” Christine literally grew up at the dealership, working here since she was 16 years old. She started out giftwrapping for Christmas, and has worked here ever since. Christine handles the event planning and marketing for Fort Bragg HarleyDavidson. “During a recent event, we raised over $1,700 for the Cape Fear Valley’s Friends of the Cancer Center!” Marci Dees has been the Controller here for 15 years. She’s affectionately known as “Mama” at the dealership and she keeps the team together. When asked what its like to help lead a Harley-Davidson dealership, Marci said “The staff and the customers… They’re some of the nicest people you could ever meet, they would do anything for you!” Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson is a full service Harley-Davidson dealership in Fayetteville, NC located at 3950 Sycamore Dairy Road. Horsefeathers Roadhouse Veterans Day Flag Ceremony Story and photo by Alan Dockery Veterans Day is celebrated across America on November 11 in many ways, from large parades to small ceremonies. That Tuesday afternoon I joined folks at my favorite bar and restaurant, Horsefeathers Roadhouse in Sherrills Ford, NC, for a small ceremony to change out their American flags. Horsefeathers flies four American flags to represent each branch of the armed services and they had become faded. Ten Hut! Everybody fall in out front. Lieutenant Colonel Bill Sondervan, U.S. Army Military Police Corps Retired, conducted the brief ceremony for the crowd at Horsefeathers. He made some remarks about military service and Veterans Day, and then they played the National Anthem while the rest of us veterans stood at attention and saluted. On the roof, Jeffery Helms, Michael Helms, and Russell Proffitt placed the new flags. “I’m an avid motorcyclist and was visiting Horsefeathers recently,” Sondervan said. “While talking to Donna, the general manager, she said they wanted to do something to commemorate Veterans Day. I volunteered to help.” Many of my Horsefeathers friends are veterans. I’m a retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant. So some afternoons you can

find us sharing a beer as we tell old service stories that make us laugh or cry. The bond among old GIs crosses all barriers of age, race, background and branch of service. Sondervan and I quickly realized we had both served in Korea at the same time. “This event represented a gathering of rural folks who have risked their lives for their country,” said Tim Anderton, Horsefeathers owner. “On a more immediate note, the changing of the flags also is celebrating an upcoming period of change with our internal political leadership at a time when the country needs it most.” Veteran or not, all people and bikers are welcome to enjoy Horsefeathers Roadhouse. It’s a restaurant, bar, game room, and has a large outside venue. Just off Highway 150 on the west side of Lake Norman, they serve great Southern food and awesome barbeque from the largest smoke house on the lake with true friendly Southern hospitality.

The 40th Anniversary Fall Swap Meet And Bike Show
By: WildThing The Charlotte Chapter of the Concerned Biker Association is like a well-oiled machine each spring and fall as they work to produce “the oldest and largest show on the east coast”. November 8th and 9th were the dates to be at the Metrolina Expo Fairgrounds in Charlotte. This sprawling venue is uniquely suited for the different vendors that come from all over North Carolina as well as some from out of state to spread their wares out to entice buyers. Several times, the Charlotte CBA has tweeked their event with innovations like free admission for active military, daily $500 gift certificate giveaways, and the Early Bird Special that allows 2 for 1 admission Sunday morning between 10 am – 12pm. This fall, they added a stunt show. A large area behind the exhibition buildings was cordoned off and the motorcycle stunt team “The Anti Team” performed a myriad of wheelies, stoppies, and awesome burnouts that captivated the spectators. The two indoor exhibition buildings were pretty well stacked with vendors and the open-air building was at least three-quarters full of vendors. Then there were a whole lot of folks set up outside with trailers and tents full of parts and accessories, leather apparel, collectibles, and some good old junk! It was a motorcycle shoppers’ paradise. There was plenty of food and beverages available inside the large exhibition building and in the breezeway between the buildings. The Rock Bottom Band on stage in the big building kept everyone toe tapping with some good ole rock-n-roll favorites. And strategically placed in front of the stage was the full liquor bar! Ha! What’s not to like at the Charlotte CBA Swap Meet? Set-up in the last building is the bike show. There is always something new to see there, with theme bikes, antiques bikes, trikes, and all manner of polished and chromed out steel horses vying for the trophies set out on the tables as you enter the
competition room. Oh yeah, there’s also a wet t-shirt contest both days on the stage in the main building. Seriously, if you can’t have fun or find something you ‘need’ at the Charlotte CBA Swap Meet, you just aren’t right! I know I enjoy every trip we make to the swap meet, visiting with friends and looking over all the goodies on display. Be sure and be ready to head to Charlotte in March of 2015 for the next show – you won’t regret it. See you there!

Rolling Thunder NC 6 Annual Chicken Stew By: Tia Saturday, October 18th, Rolling Thunder NC 6 held their annual Chicken Stew hosted by the American Legion Post 290 in King and master-blended by Don Adams. The weather was awesome and the event was a success. The three pots of mild, medium, and HOT were cooked all afternoon and if the hot wasn’t hot enough you could add extra spices thanks to Don. To top the meal off there were many choices of delicious desserts. The tables were full of family, friends, current military, and even a former WW2 POW. The camaraderie was equal to the chicken stew itself. Many door prizes and raffles, from helmets to a 42 Blue Ray Flat Screen, went home with our new and old friends. How appropriate was the ticket drawn for the Rolling Thunder T-shirt Quilt that was won by Jonathan Guffy a young man who serves his country bravely. The appreciation for those who donated their time, their goods, and their love for our service men and women cannot be expressed adequately in words. Thanks to everyone who came to help us carry out our mission to educate the public about POW/MIA and in helping us assist the area veterans.

WHAT A DEAL!
By: Caroline The ALR Post 55 Bike Show is an annual event that is one of my favorites. This year, I believe they had the best one ever! Saturday, October 18, was a perfect fall day for this event held at Post 55 on Miller Street in Winston-Salem. To start with I participated in the bike wash. I’ve been waiting for that all year! While waiting for my bike to get cleaned up, I had a chance to relax on the Legion Post patio with a grilled hot dog lunch. While eating, we were entertained by local talent, Joey Whitaker. He is an amazing musician and artist! Vendors offered a great selection of items to browse. There was riding gear sold by individuals and items to support groups like the Forgotten Sons. At the end of the day the bike show winners were revealed and trophies were awarded to these folks: Custom: John Collins, Trike: Wanda Johnson, Metric: Rick “Taz” Dunlap, Old School: Jason “Twitch“ Brown, American and Best in Show: Doug Beard. Steve Shady took second place in both American and Best in Show categories. Mike Connor placed second for the Old School category. Great job and congratulations on all the entries and winners! Two more events that generated a lot of interest was the money wheel and cooler raffle. Andrew Geiber won the drawing for the money wheel that had $100 attached to it. Aaron Pendergrast won the cooler raffle that was crammed packed with all kinds of great items for the ultimate party! The ALR at Post 55 definitely succeeded in pulling off another great event for 2014.

Motorcycle Therapy Comes To NC Veterans Home By: Jim Kaslelitis, LTAF volunteer Recently after minor surgery, his doctor, told Lets Twist Again Foundation director, Garry Segal “No lifting, exercising, or motorcycle riding for at least 2 months”. He was unhappy to say the least. A fulltime rider for 30 years and also a health care worker (therapeutic recreation director, job coach), Garry had an idea. “I recalled reading about pro riders using simulators to sharpen motorcycle riding skills indoors at home, and wondered if a simulator could be used during recuperation periods. Then I thought of the military men and women coming back from war zones with far worse injuries then mine. Now my mission became getting real motorcycle controls and a virtual riding experience to someone in a hospital bed, wheelchair, or as part of outpatient therapy.“ After much research and input from riders and medical professionals Garry put together a program and made modifications to a Honda SMARTrainer (a computer system for virtual riding and safety training) for this use. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation reviewed his plan for its use in recreation therapy programs and have granted him the equipment to use for one year. Mr. Segal then traveled to Irvine, CA and was trained and certified as a SMARTrainer rider coach at the Motorcycle Safety Foundation headquarters. Soon a pilot program was started at the NC Veterans Home in Black Mountain, NC. Every Thursday vets there now have chance to work with Garry and feel he joy of twisting a throttle and cruising back roads on a virtual ride. Veterans Home Activity Director Amy Ferguson says, “It is so fun to see everybody riding and laughing. It also has such a positive effect by exercising fine motor skills and hand eye coordination skills”. The program is now in 3 facilities in NC. Its not just a one shot “let’s ride for fun and that’s it” program though. Motorcycle Therapy is designed for weekly visits to allow patients to work on their riding skills. A printout after each ride allows the rider coach and the patient to follow progress. Currently Garry receives no salary and has been providing the motorcycle therapy program as a volunteer with donations helping to defray costs. Future plans are for a small paid direct care staff supported by volunteers. Why Motorcycle Therapy? If you are reading this magazine, I think you already get it. If it was me recovering in a hospital and someone came along once a week and offered a virtual motorcycle ride, how could I turn that down? For those who don’t get it, some patients who used to ride motorcycles had a very close relationship with riding and find it depressing to think they might never have that experience again. It can be very inspiring for those folks to find themselves sitting behind motorcycle handlebars with a real throttle, clutch, and brake. Patients start the engine, hear it rev up, and drive themselves through a virtual landscape recalling unused skill sets, exercising cognitive and physical abilities, and just having fun!
Others that have never been on a motorcycle can benefit, too. They can be learning new skills in a safe virtual environment, in a fun, engaging way. Director Garry Segal explained that a key element is the one on one session with a rehab rider coach. The coach helps patients find the best use of the apparatus and engages in conversations on motorcycle riding, safety, and riding stories. Once a patient is used to the operation, they can wear headphones for a total immersion experience if desired. After an evaluation, modifications can be made for amputees and other special needs. So a new 501c3 non profit based in Hendersonville, NC, the Let’s Twist Again Foundation Inc. is now set up to provide this unique motorcycle therapy program to those in rehabilitation hospitals and long term care facilities. Currently on a weekly basis the program visits the NC Veterans Home in Black Mountain, NC, Universal Health Care in Fletcher, NC and Spring Arbor in Hendersonville NC. Funding comes through public donations so if you would like to bring a twist to a wrist and a smile for a while to someone in a rehabilitation hospital stop by www.motorcycletherapy.org to see what its all about.

The Ride For Heather
By: Michael Hughes There are times when a beautiful day is made out of so much more than just sunshine and clear, cloudless blue skies. Saturday, October 25th was one such day. At around 11 am that day, friends and supporters from all over the motorcycle community began to gather for what was an amazing outpouring of support and love for an amazing lady and her awesome family. We came together to show our support and to raise some funds to help our dear friend, Heather Newell and her family as she fights the good fight against breast cancer. Riders came from all over Charlotte and the surrounding area as well as from as far away as Indiana and Ohio to join us in this worthy cause and demonstrate that Newell Strong is something near and dear to our hearts. The riders gathered at In The Wind in Huntersville on what started out as a chilly but bright Saturday morning. By the time the ride got underway, the sunshine had warmed the air nicely and we headed up to Iron Thunder in Mooresville for the first stop on the run. As we left In The Wind, Austin and his crew from Suitcase Photography took pictures of the riders heading out. After a great ride up through Davidson and the back roads around that area, the group spent some time at Iron Thunder before heading out for a nice ride around the west side of Lake Norman to the next stop at Jack’s Corner Tap in Cornelius. We all got back into the breeze and from Jack’s we made the short hop over to Jay’s At The Lake, also in Cornelius for the final poker card pull before heading back to In The Wind for the last stop. The group was met at ITW by a host of people that had come to attend the rest of the festivities that we had planned for this event. As fantastic as the ride was, the turnout at the end of the run was heartwarming beyond description. The end of run party at In The Wind featured food, a silent auction, door prize raffles, and a 50/50 drawing and an amazing display of affection and support for Heather, her husband Tim, and their children Robbie and Brittany. As the result of the amazing generosity of a number of businesses and individuals, the silent auction offered an impressive array of items. Combined with a stunningly successful 50/50 raffle, the silent auction, the sale of the generously donated food, and the ride registration proceeds, the event raised an impressive amount of money that Heather and her family will put to good use in defraying some of the medical expenses related to her fight against breast cancer. As helpful as the money raised for this worthy cause most certainly is, the friendship, support, and love that were demonstrated to Heather and her family were, quite simply, amazing to behold. The smiles and laughter and overall great times were interspersed with tears of joy by everyone involved. It wasn’t just the sunshine and balmy temperatures that provided the warmth on that beautiful October Saturday afternoon, it was the outpouring of love every bit as much as it was the fine weather.
There are so many people to thank for the success of this event. There is the amazing team that put it all together, the volunteers that manned the card stops, the folks that cooked, the generous donors of the food and the silent auction items, everyone who helped out with registration, the auction and the drawings. To try to name them all would inevitably lead to failing to mention someone. Special thanks as well to Suitcase Photography, Iron Thunder in Mooresville, Jack’s Corner Tap in Cornelius and Jay’s At The Lake in Cornelius. Extra special thanks and appreciation are due to Bert and Judy at In The Wind in Huntersville and to the fine ladies behind the bar for everything they did to make this event the success that it was. Most importantly, though, thanks to each and every one of you who came out and showed Heather and her family all of the support and love. It was a beautiful day and not just because the sun was out and the skies were blue!

2nd Annual Island Hopping Campaign By: Old Spook The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Chapter 34-4 (Lowcountry Pirates) held a poker run in support of the new Fisher House Charleston project. In late 2012, at the suggestion of Gen James E. Livingston (Ret), Harbour House was formed as an independent charitable corporation with the purpose of building and operating a Fisher House type facility for the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC. The hospital had applied for a Fisher House, but with no Federal land available for one to be built on, Harbour House became Plan B. Through the efforts of dedicated volunteers, generous supporters, and a special energy, the Harbour House project gained enough momentum to attract the attention of the Fisher House Foundation, which over the

course of early 2014 suggested an alignment whereby a Fisher House could be built in Charleston if Harbour House would purchase an appropriate property. That is now what Harbour House is attempting to do. 150 Wentworth Street is currently under a signed purchase agreement and once all debt is paid and the property is donated, then there will be a Fisher House built in Charleston. We are now calling this endeavor the Fisher House Charleston project. The key to the house is $4,000,000 that must be raised. Without it, there will be no house, and desperate Veteran families will continue to sacrifice when they have already given so much. The Fisher House Charleston project will help veterans by having free housing available for their families when they come to visit them at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center during their treatment. You can learn more about the Fisher House Charleston project and make a donation if you like by visiting: FisherHouseCharleston.org Parson Jack’s Cafe in West Ashley strongly supports the military and they offered their establishment for registration and breakfast for the event. Other stops included The King Street Grill in Fresh Fields on Kiawah Island, The Sand Dollar on Folly Beach, The Windjammer on Isle Of Palms, and Richard’s Bar and Grill in Mt. Pleasant.

12 DAYS CHRISTMAS OF
L-R Wendy’s sister, Heather Swain, Wendy, and Annette Dudley By: Caroline I just found out about this very worthy benefit ride and fundraiser for a local lady with ALS. I am sure that everyone this year has heard about this terrible disease. Who hasn’t taken the ice bucket challenge? Seriously, it really becomes more urgent and personal when it involves someone who lives here and is family and friend to many in this area. On Saturday, November 15, a benefit ride, silent auction, and fundraiser were held for Wendy Cook Poindexter who was diagnosed with ALS just two years ago. The ride started at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson in Winston-Salem and ended at the Yadkinville Moose Lodge. There, folks could purchase some great tasting barbeque or bid on any of the great items donated for the silent auction. When I spoke to Wendy’s sister, Heather Swain, she told me Wendy has the opportunity to go to the Mayo Clinic to take part in treatments that have proved to have some promising results. This fundraiser was planned by her many friends and family to help cover the cost of travel expenses to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. If you would like to help Wendy in her fight with this disease you can donate to Wendy’s Warriors at Capital Bank in Yadkinville or call 336-408-7193.

By: Grant The new Indian of Concord held their grand opening on November 7th and 8th. The store located at 254 Concord Parkway South still has all the selection a biker could want, but now is one of North Carolina’s newest Indian dealers. They not only carry the bikes, but all the trim and wearables one could want. The show room is located in the Ride Now Powersports dealership in Concord, NC. Friday and Saturday the Indian demo truck was on site to let would be owners give all the new Indian models a try. I watched wave after wave of want to be owners taking the demos out for a round through Concord. Ride Now has everything a rider could want; gear, helmets, and now a wall of Kuryakyn parts to shine your ride up. Ride Now truly is your home for everything biker and don’t forget this is your home for 4 wheelers, too. Come on by 254 Concord Parkway South and check out the newest Indian VTwins and everything else in this one location for every thing you need to make Christmas special this year. Ask for Scott or Duck and tell them you read about them in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine.

Cruising For Christie By: Beth “Fat Bottom Mama” Myers On October 12, 2014 Christie Stanfield was involved in an ATV accident. She was rushed to GRU Shock Trauma unit in Augusta GA. She was suffering from severe head trauma, broken ribs, collapsed lung, lacerated spleen, and other injuries. After many surgeries, this past Thursday she was moved to Shepherd Rehabilitation Center in Atlanta. Christie is a 22-year-old single mom to 2 small boys. The community has really come together with 2 BBQ dinner sales, a coed softball tournament, a concert at Happy Harry’s in Barnwell and Cruising For Christie, a family fun day and benefit ride. Cruising For Christie was held on November 15th by Barnwell County Bikers at The Bikers Market in Barnwell and was a great success. It was a beautiful brisk day with a high of 55°. We had around 50 bikers show up from all over the state of South Carolina and Georgia. We had first time riders, old school riders, and numerous clubs represented. Vendors from SC and Georgia set up and donated to the raffle. Christian singer Kristie Hutson performed from 11:30-12:30. Rick Rudd and his band played beach, 50’s, southern rock, old and new country music for us. There was a corn Hole tournament, 50/50, and raffle prizes. We closed out with raising just over $1000 for the family. There are a few that I would like to thank personally, for without them we could not pull off Cruising for Christie. Thanks to The Reaper for allowing us to hold the event at the bikers market, the Ramblin Rebels for planning our route out, Connor Bennett for helping with the planning, Rick Gooding for donating T-shirts, all of our great vendors for donating their time, Rick Rudd and Kristie Elkins Hutson for donating their time to perform and our local businesses and individuals
for their volunteer time and raffle donations. But I want to give a special thanks to Billy Grubbs for the idea. He is the one who had the idea from the very start.

Life is short and delicate, too. In a moment, driving down I-40 in Sampson County, Bob and Melinda Bradshaw’s lives changed dramatically. A single car accident on October 9th sent Melinda to the hospital at UNC where she died the next day. Bob sustained a broken ankle and was released from the hospital. He passed away in his sleep two days later. Memorial services were held Friday, October 17th in the Chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Angier, NC. Reverend Alan Hicks of Freedom Biker Church officiated and the family had a private graveside service afterwards. Bob and Melinda were friends and worked with The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine as a photographer and writer since 2005. We always cherished their help at The Capital City Bikefest and their grand daughter Lilly came along to help, too. They covered Garner, Fuqua-Varina, Angier and surrounding areas since 2012. It is hard to believe they are gone. Here, they will be missed, but they are together forever.

10th Annual Confederate Heritage Ride
By: Old Spook Bill Norris, 2nd Past Commander and member of the Media Action Committee for the Sons Of Confederate Veterans Secession Camp 4, filled me in on the particulars of this year’s ride, Over 325 riders participated in this unique historical fact finding mission. The group is made up of members whose genealogical roots can be traced back to the civil war era. They take a great deal of pride in their historical heritage and wish to preserve the memory of a forgotten era. Charleston holds a unique place in history as the crucible of the war between the states. Clive Cussler, the author and adventurer, nearly single handedly devised a means to detect and then extract the Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley, from the floor of Charleston Harbor. This was the 150th anniversary of the sinking of the USS Housatonic, an iron clad Union war ship, by the H.L. Hunley. The run always begins at the H.L. Hunley Museum on the old naval base. This year the museum had turned the H.L. Hunley to an upright position and had examined all of the remains including some remarkable artifacts. This year, Breach Inlet, off Sullivan’s Island (named Long Island during the civil war), was one of the historic spots where members of the Secessionist Camp in civil war battle dress recalled the embarkation of the H.L. Hunley on its fate-
ful mission. It was here that the crew members would travel from Mt. Pleasant to Sullivan’s Island in the dead of night to start their mission. The funds raised from this year’s event went to the preservation and continued research on the H.L. Hunley and the museum.

Nazareth Children’s Home 4th Quarter Birthday Party
By: Darby Dillard It was another perfect day for a ride! The weather was perfect! And an even better day to do a small part in God’s creation to help put some joy back into the lives of these children at Nazareth Children’s Home. It was special as we were able to just sit, talk, and eat lunch with these children before we had cake and ice cream. It’s truly a blessing to be able to just listen to these young people and see a smile on their face after a bit of encouragement. Our attendance was down a bit, but God provides when you set out to do the right thing. I forgot to take a picture of our group of riders; so for once I’ll share a picture with me in it. This young lady, Emily, is the daughter of some very good friends of ours who also just happens to be Miss Teen Mint Hill and Miss Teen Union County. I think it’s great to see young people get involved that understand how blessed they are! I also need to always remember to thank Speedway H-D for providing lunch, The Buffalo Troopers, Smiley’s Cycle Works, The Rockwell Gang, Law Petroleum, Sharon (for cooking), And for the first time Carrie’s Creative Icings. Carrie provided the custom cake and it was delicious! Thank you to each and every partici-

ABATE Of South Carolina Annual Helmet Law Support Rally
April 18-26, 2015
REVISED DATE September 16-20, 2015
By: Chad W. Fuller ABATE of South Carolina held its annual Helmet Law Support Rally on October 5, 2014. Riders from as far away as Virginia and Georgia met at the Pitt Stop off of I-26 in Cayce to participate in a 4.5 mile ride escorted by officers from the City of Cayce and the City of Columbia. The ride ended at the South Carolina State House where the riders congregated on the steps of the Capitol Building and listened to speakers talk about how far the organization has come in accomplishing its goals of protecting the freedom of motorcyclists in the state. They also reminded the participants that the fight is far from over and we motorcyclists must keep a constant vigil over our elected officials. The recurring theme boiled down to a few simple words: “Action over apathy!” It is far too easy to sit back and do nothing and, if that is your preferred choice, your voice will not be heard and your freedom to ride will be taken away by sections of society that do not want motorcycles on the highways and byways of this great country. These groups will certainly not take such a course of inaction. We all understand that it takes more effort to act and fight for your
rights but that the rewards are as endless as those highways and byways. The Motorcycle Rider’s Foundation presented ABATE of South Carolina with the State Legislative Award for the group’s efforts in passing H3231, also known as the “Motorcycle Equal Access Law.” The bill was passed into law this past spring and forbids the South Carolina Department of Transportation as well as local municipalities from discriminating against motorcycles on our roadways and other publicly funded infrastructure. Prior to the passage of this bill, it was permissible for the municipalities to ban motorcycles from publicly funded parking garages. ABATE of South Carolina hopes that each person reading this message takes it to heart because freedom is not free.

Indian Scouts Appear In Greensboro By: Rick Gammons Saturday, October 25th was sunny with a good amount of wind. This was a most excellent day to test ride the new Indian Scout brought in by reps at Indian Motorcycle. They brought 16 motorcycles, representing the entire line (except the “Slingshot” coming in November). Monty and the crew at Indian Motorcycle of Greensboro sponsored this demo ride for the new 2015 motorcycles. People were lined up to demo these bikes before the dealership opened. I got there about 11am, just in time to see another group of riders heading out. I could see their emotions, from anticipation to being scared s**tless. After they left, I went inside to register. There were several registering, so I thought I’d wait. When I went back, the line was longer, so this time I waited to get my demo armband. Returning outside, I passed the time by talking with people who had already ridden. I got nearly all positive responses. I was still involved getting critiques from them and missed my turn to ride. No biggie. One of the reps went inside and came back with a new number for me. Now, I could fill you in on the liquid-cooled, 69 cubic inch, counter balance and a motor that delivers for it’s size, but EZ Short from the Myrtle Beach area did a bang up job on the stat report in last months issue. Missed it? Go back and read his article for the technical ability of the Scout. What I did was ride it. It gives you a real time report on how it preforms. I have mostly good things to say about this bike, but the first thing I noticed after climbing on, was how small it was. I ride a VTX 1800, so right off, that made it seem small. Styling and sound are good. The bike looks sharp, with duel exhaust and a modern aggressive style that gives this bike its sassy look. The Scout is not loud, but there is enough to hear. The bike is simple. All instruments are easy to reach and read. The foot pegs are small, leaving your feet searching for them. Gearing and shifting are easy to attain, I think it just needs more peg. Again, I am used to the VTX 1800 footboards, so the pegs might not be as bad as it seemed. The worst thing I could find with the Scout was the mirrors. They are plenty large enough, but they do not stick out far enough to be able to see what is behind you. A longer mirror mount would cure this. Ok, so we took off. Response was immediate, but easy to throttle at slow speeds, even at 2 or 3 mph. I thought the Scout had excellent balance. If you do slow ride competitions, this
is your bike! I really like the response on the front end. I did short weaves after we got rolling and got a surprisingly snappy response. When the light turned at one of the stops, I got a chance to start at a faster speed. Again, response ruled. I got second and pulled the front wheel off the pavement, reminding me what is in this little powerhouse. When we hit the four lane the ride captain took off and I got my chance to see what this bike would do. The next two did also. I held back a few seconds giving them a chance to get a good ways ahead. Then, I got on it. The darn thing almost got out from under me! I was just over 100 mph when I caught up to them. Once again, the Scout provided impressive acceleration. I felt a bit uneasy above 90 mph, but that is probably just me. It did feel a bit light at fast speeds, even though it weighs in at 630 lbs. Don’t worry though. It backs down respectfully and the 6-speed transmission can be used to control your breaking, if you use them that way. The rest of the route was uneventful giving riders time to just ride. By this time I had a good understanding of how this machine would handle and perform. To sum it up, the Scout provided sharp styling, liquid-cooled engine, amazing acceleration, sharp cornering, smooth breaking, simple instrumentation, and balance is over the top. You need to check out this motorcycle. You can find them this month at Indian Motorcycle of Greensboro at 201 S. Church St., Greensboro. Don’t wait too long, they are selling fast!

Ryan Onufer, an injured marine, suffering from PTSD and TBI was the recipient of this year’s donations. With the aid of the Volunteer division of the Veteran’s Administration of Charleston under the auspices of Ed Lisinski, we were able to find local veterans who need help. Colonel Wayne Phillips (Ret.) gave a wonderful inspiration talk and Master Chief Strickland and the High School HOW T R.O.T.C. honor guard added a profesABOUS?! sional military touch when they presentYOUR ed the Colonel. All of the supporters on the stops and major contributors were given framed posters of the World Trade Center Memorial, in commemoration of the run. An additional thank you goes out to the owners of Finn’s and Whaley’s for their support along with The Beach Bar, Badd Kitty, Harvest Moon, and the Legion Riders of 166 Goose Creek. American Children’s Home Benefit Ride By: Caroline Every year the American Legion Riders of Post 55 host a ride to the American Children’s Home in Lexington. This year’s ride was on Sunday, November 16th and the turnout was great! As with most of the ALR events, they are open to anyone who wants to come along. We leave the post on Miller Street and arrive at the Children’s Home around 1pm. Our goal is to provide the kids with school supplies, bedding, toiletries, and give each child a $25 gift card for Wal-Mart. However, all of us who attend this each year come away with so much more than we brought. The kids always greet us as we are pulling into the facility with signs of appreciation. At that point it is traditional for us to allow the kids to sit on our bikes and pretend for a few minutes they are riding. The most special part of the visit comes when the kids entertain us with songs, poems, and speeches.
It’s not hard to forget about our own troubles after listening to them tell us what they are thankful for! It’s not hard to imagine these young folks are on their way to success despite their circumstances. If you are interested in this and other events from the ALR at Post 55 check them out on their website www.ALP55NC. org. You can also like them on Facebook and check for more upcoming events on The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar at FullThrottleMagazine.com.

The Jeff Ard Benefit Run By: Everette “EZ” Short Do you ever go out on a run and wonder what you’re doing it for? Well, in this case, I can tell you that Jeff Ard was born in Murrells Inlet and has been a part of the local biker community his whole life. In August, of this year, Jeff fell from a scaffold while working, and crushed his foot. Jeff will be off his feet until next year, so what do we do? We gather around our brother to help a part of the family who needs us. His brothers and sisters came to the call to help out a brother in need and his family as well on Saturday, October 18th. Around noon thirty, we left from The City Line Saloon, with about 30 bikes to head north to Barnacle Bill’s Rum and Raw Bar, surrounded by the warm southern winds of Indian Summer, blowing us straight up into Myrtle Beach proper. After a short stop of bad jokes and cold beers, we rolled up to Dog House Donny’s Saloon for a shot, and a shot,
and shot, before heading south, en mass, to Patty’s Dew Drop Inn for unique pool table shenanigans and some really bad jokes, before heading to Murrells Inlet for some rocking chair reminiscence. Jeff couldn’t ride yet, but he did man the BBQ and presided over the prizes, games and tomfoolery. For the record, this is what we, in the biker community, should be all about: local people helping those who need us. I personally have no problem throwing money at incurable diseases, but I always put my money on local people who need us to help them through a tough patch. His wife Cindy, throwing cards at every stop, as well as his two boys, Sean and Luke, and their gorgeous grand daughter helped Jeff out. If you missed the ride, but would like to contribute, call Cindy at (843) 240Tue-Fri 6-7:30 5263 to help out. Cindy and Jeff are in awe of the turnout, but check out the pix from that special ride at www.FullThrotEvery Other Sat 1-3pm tleMagazine.com to see how good all you good looking bikers look riding in the full sunshine of a great day for a Every Other Sat 1-3pm good reason.

Ray Price Racing Wins 2014 NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series Championship Grimes gives team sixth Top Fuel Harley win to capture championship. The perfect end to a championship season! Ray Price Racing went into the final race of the NHRA HarleyDavidson Drag Racing Series at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway November 7 – 9, with a marginal lead over Damian Cownden for the points championship. After capturing the team’s fifth NHRA win at Mission Raceway Park back in September, the Akea/Ray Price Racing team was excited about their chances of winning the championship. The team prepared for the upcoming NHRA Las Vegas final by competing at two other sanctioned races, one in Norwalk, OH and the other in their own backyard at Rockingham Dragway, NC, finishing first at both races. With the bike tuned and ready to go upon their arrival at The Strip, Ray Price Racing didn’t waist anytime in putting down some impressive numbers during test and qualifying sessions. During first test session on Thursday the team ran 6.257 ET at 226.43 MPH followed by 6.186 ET at 214.66 MPH. In round one of qualifying on Friday, the 1,000 horsepower Top Fuel Harley Akea Express ended up spinning the tire. Because of spinning the tire on Friday the team went into cautious mode for Saturday qualifying to ensure a good qualifying position. Grimes went out and then ran consistent passes with a 6.377 ET at 229.86 MPH in round two and 6.329 ET at 219.72 MPH in round three, to move into the number three qualifying spot. Going into Sunday’s finals, the team just needed to win one round of eliminations to clinch the championship. Facing fellow NC top fuel Harley competitor Jay Turner in the first round of eliminations, Turner got the starting line advantage but Grimes made up the distance by the time he went by the Christmas tree and ran a 6.322 ET at 220.69 MPH pass to take the win. With this round win the Akea/Ray Price Racing team would secure the 2014 NHRA Harley-Davidson Top Fuel Championship. In round two Grimes lead by the 400-foot mark and ran the quickest pass of the event for the win with a 6.246 ET at 220.40 MPH. This gave the team lane choice going into the finals against Damian Cownden. From the time Grimes left the tree, the Akea Express lead all the way to the finish line
running 6.315 ET at 220.73 MPH for the sixth NHRA win. With this win, Ray Price Racing was crowned the 2014 NHRA Harley-Davidson Top Fuel Champion. “I am very proud of my team, they were with me when I was riding the bike and have been with me all the years since. Also I want to thank all of my the sponsors for their help and support in winning this championship”, commented an excited
Ray Price. It has been an exciting season for the Akea/Ray Price Race team, capturing six wins in the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series, three wins at other sanctioned races and setting several records along the way. A total of nine wins over 15 races that the team competed at in 2014. All in all, it was an incredible year for Ray Price Racing. With the championship no one can argue that fact. The Ray Price Motorsports team sends sincere thanks to all their sponsors for their support for the 2014 race season. They include our Primary Sponsors: Akea, Ray Price HarleyDavidson, with special thanks to our Associate Sponsor Raleigh H.O.G. and our Support Sponsors: Vanson Leathers, PJ1 Products, RC Components, Nationwide Insurance, CP Pistons, Royal Purple, Barnett Clutches & Cables, Autolite Sparkplugs, Mickey Thompson Tires, Gates Belts, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, JIMS USA, Industrial Machine Solutions, and Wiley X. By: Cindy Henderson Santa Claus (Eric Burks) hitched his sleigh to a three-wheeled motorcycle driven by Elf Sonny Deal during an early stop in Statesville on November 1st, riding through town on a mission to bring Christmas joy to underprivileged children in Iredell County. St. Nick joined the Statesville Harley Owners Group (HOG) Chapter 3548 for their 2nd Annual Jingle Bell Toy Run. The Jingle Bell Toy Run was in memory of Don Tilley, with commemorative T-Shirts. Unfortunately due to the bad weather, participation wasn’t so great this year, but thanks to the brave souls that did come out and ride with Santa, there will be children receiving toys, food and clothing this year. The ride ended with a sloppy hawg meal prepared by Stephen and Barbara Gilreath at the church while the elves gave out door prizes. The Jingle Bell Toy Run partners the Statesville H.O.G. Chapter with Bethlehem United Methodist Church to provide clothes, toys, and food for the under-privileged children of the Celeste Henkel School community. The collection of toys and non-perishable food items is still going on until December 13th with collection boxes at Tilley Harley-Davidson of Statesville. The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine
BidHarley.com By: Gary Steelman Three weeks ago I had an opportunity to pop in at BidHarley.com’s motorcycle center on I-40 located just 3 miles west of I-77, BidHarley is a preowned motorcycle sales and service center that shares the same facility as Southern Truck and Equipment on the I-40 service road “where the big trucks are”! On a sunny day they line the front of their 4-acre store with nice, clean motorcycles for sale. John Rosenbaum and Jesse Spindler partnered with Chuck Hilton about 3 years ago and are undoubtedly one of the fastest growing motorcycle supercenters in the Carolinas! Mr. Hilton started Southern Truck and Equipment over 18 years ago and built the state of the art truck store 7 years ago. The partnership is a perfect match, as Mr. Hilton also happens to be a serious motorcycle enthusiast. These guys are great, and they don’t do it alone, Randy Salter, Julie and Shelby Ward, Joe Keller, and Brandon Mullins help complete the team. I was at the Charlotte CBA Swap Meet in early November and watched the gang in action. They have had a booth there every year since they have started and I watched as one customer after another, both old and new,
stopped in to say “hi” and just talk motorcycles. It was really cool; many were wearing their signature “Got Harley” T-shirts that they received when they purchased a bike from the gang. They had a huge wall of photos that said on the top “Meet some of our friends”. It included hundreds of customers standing next to their new rides shaking the hand of one of the team members. It was fun to watch them try to find their picture on the wall. BidHarley.com has created a buying experience that really seems to work. They have lots of good clean bikes, for beginners to the advanced rider, they have you covered, Most importantly, their “We’re Easy” and “Everybody Rides” slogans have to do with the “Buy Here, Pay Here” program that has everybody talking, and they’ll trade for just about anything. A lot of people that thought that they couldn’t ride because of their credit are now riding. The program covers everybody, from perfect credit to bad credit, “Everybody Rides”. The next time you’re in the market for another bike, you should check them out. These guys sell a lot bikes and now I know why.

By: Ricky Gammons Peggy and I went to the coast the week after the Fall Bike Rally at Myrtle Beach. Things were relatively tame there: not a lot of excitement anywhere. The thing is, Peggy and I have a knack for finding a good time. This was the case Saturday night, our last evening there. I found the ad for Patty’s Dew Drop Inn in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and found it to be very close to where we were staying. I went there during the Spring Rally and found it to be a quaint local bar. On this particular evening, the place was crankin’! It was full of people and most were bikers. I was immediately in my comfort zone. It was Sandy Thompson’s 75th birthday. There was food, drinks, and cake, but Sandy stole the show. I could tell she had been a party girl for a long time when she got up to dance. I have never seen a woman in her “golden years” move like that. This is not a large bar so you get close to the people there quickly, as Sandy did. She danced and downed shots, kissed and hugged most of the men and a lot of the women. Peggy and I were impressed. We hope to be able to move that well a 75. I find bar people in South Carolina to be some of the friendliest people anywhere. It doesn’t seem to matter where you go, people accept visitors, especially biker people. I would suggest that you go by Patty’s Dew Drop Inn the next time you are in Myrtle Beach. They are located at 1268 Surfside Industrial Park, Myrtle Beach, SC in a long white building between a car customizing company and a church. They are only about 100 yards off Hwy 544 (Dick Pond Road – ok, quit laughing) at the edge of Surfside Beach. The map is in their ad. Moral of this story: Check out the people who advertise with The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. You might stumble up on a great memory to tell when you get home.

Rommel H-D Fall Open House By: Kathy Johnson All the leaves falling from the trees and a dip in the temperature let us know fall had arrived. It also told us it was time for Rommel H-D in Durham’s Fall Open House. Kickstands were down from one end of the parking lot to the other. Good music was being belted out in the parking lot from DJ Heavy. We all know Rommel isn’t shy about giveaways! That day you had a chance at a $300 gift certificate or you could try your luck at the 50/50. The show room floor was loaded down with wall-to-wall horsepower. In other words everything you like to look at under one roof. When you are looking at a new ride, you will run into Jennifer on the sales floor. She knows her stuff and is incredibly informative and a great part of their sales team. After that back out side I went. Vendors lined the lot Durham HOG club always a pleasure! Levy’s vending truck had the line going on. They were sending free BBQ plates out their vending window as quick and hard as they could. It was a
great blend of vendors from beer to jewelry and even Rottweiler rescue. Jack Marvel and his staff make each event get better and better so watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for their next event and check them out! You will see some great rides, some friends, and have a beer or 2 and BBQ!

D & Q Motorsports Customer Appreciation And 10th Year Anniversary By: David McLean Ten years ago, Gmail was introduced, the Boston Red Sox won the World Series after 86 years, and a small motorcycle shop opened in an old hardware store in downtown Angier. Originally named D&Q Chopper Shop, the fledgling business repaired and upgraded bikes in a space better suited for other retail businesses. While Harley-Davidsons may have been the most popular brand through the door, they boasted an uncanny ability to fix a wide range of makes and fabricating their own custom creations. Ten years later, they have now moved into their own building outside town, and they celebrated their accomplishments with the many customers that have made this possible. On October 25th, they “officially” opened the doors on the new, larger shop three miles down from the original downtown location with free food, music, and gifts for the many patrons who have graced the shop. Now named D&Q Motorsports, owner Jeff Bruce has always given back to his customers in the fall and early summer with these types of celebrations. “It is important to give something back to those who keep our doors open,” said Bruce, who was an original founding mechanic before purchasing the business from Steve Dupree. “We are the local bike shop in this area, and we are grateful to our customers.” The crowds rolled in all afternoon long with the beautiful weather, enjoying the pig pickin’ by the BBQ Brothers RC, participating in raffles and free T shirt giveaways, and listening to the Southern Rock musical styling of EagleWing. Some of the regulars, like the Seven Sabres Brotherhood MRC, presented Jeff with a plaque of appreciation for the contributions of the shop helping with rides and other charitable organizations. Many other clubs rode to show support as well, as row after row of bikes filled Ray Hart Lane to capacity. Over 300 bikes stopped in, making the day memorable for the staff and families involved with the business. “I want to thank everyone who came out to make our Grand Reopening/10 year Anniversary event a HUGE success,” Bruce said. “A special thanks to the BBQ Brothers for a great pig picking, without your help we could not have made it happen. As we look forward to the future, we want to see all of you celebrating with us another 10 years.”

Red Springs Toy Run 2014 By: Bob Hollingsworth and Trisha Beasley Saturday, November 8, 2014, marked the 15th Annual Red Springs Toy Run. There were around 300 bikers in support of the event! Riders and participants of the toy run have given an average of one thousand children in the Robeson, Scotland, and Hoke County areas a toy for Christmas. The cost to bikers for participation in the event is at least one unwrapped toy. A lot also contribute by cash donations but that is the rider’s choice. Founders of the event are Tommy & Becky Lewis and Bob & Elnora Hollingsworth. They started the toy run in 1999. Both couples are avid bikers in the Red Springs area. The first event consisted of about 80 bikers and the number has just grown since! Thanks to the founders and the support of the community, which also includes a lot of non-riders. The community comes together to support the event with services of food, directing bikers with parking, traffic stops when necessary, and of course toys! The entire town of Red Springs supports the toy run by providing police and ambulance escorts for the entire ride and a chase truck and trailer in the event of any mechanical problems during the ride. The ride begins at Red Springs Fire Department and then goes to Pembroke. Then off to the next stop in Laurinburg at The Golden Corral Restaurant, which hosts the biker rest stop with refreshments. Bikers then proceed to Raeford and back to Red Springs for lunch and door prizes. At that time, the Red Springs Fire Department turns its facility over to the ride coordinators to provide a place for the bikers to gather, eat, and fellowship. Toys are shared between the Pembroke Housing Authority, Laurinburg Police Department, Hoke County Sheriff’s Department, and the Red Springs Chamber of Commerce for distribution. Additional toys are provided to the Robeson County Social Services for their annual Christmas party. All of
the stuffed animals and toys donated are given equally to the Emergency Departments and Southeastern Regional Medical Center (Southeastern Health) and Scotland Memorial Hospital. Bob Hollingsworth gave the welcome for the toy run. Reverend Bradley Boberg of the First Baptist Church of Red Springs gave the opening prayer. Following a fantastic day of riding and gifts, special thanks were given for yet another successful year!

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. As a little girl climbed onto Santa’s lap, Santa asked the usual, “And what would you like for Christmas?” The child stared at him open mouthed and horrified for a minute, then gasped, “Didn’t you get my E-mail?”
longer to live, she called her husband to her hospital bed and told him it was time for him to take a look at the shoebox. The old man went home, grabbed the box, and opened it. Inside, there were two crocheted dolls and bundles of money totaling $95,000!! “But… why? How?!” he stuttered, totally mystified by the cash. “Right before we got married,” the old woman told her astonished husband, “my grandmother told me the secret to a happy marriage was to never argue. She said if I ever got angry with you, I should keep quiet and crochet a doll.” The old man was touched. There were only two dolls in the shoebox – she had only been angry with him two times over the course of their marriage. He scooped his wife up and gave her a kiss. “But where did the money come from?” He asked her. “Oh, that?” She said with a smile, “that’s the money I made from selling the dolls.” Christmas is less than two weeks away. I do most of my shopping online. But I hire someone to honk and scream obscenities at me while I’m doing it so I get the whole holiday shopping experience. A woman and a man are lying in bed next to each other when her phone rings. She picks it up, the man looks over at her and listens. She is speaking in a cheery voice, “Hi, I’m so glad you called. Really? That’s wonderful. I’m so happy for you. That sounds terrific. Great! Thanks. Okay. Bye bye.” She hangs up, and the man asks, “Who was that?” “Oh, she replies, “that was my husband telling me about the great time he’s having on his golf trip with you.”
The boy thought about that for a moment, decided he’d settle for the offer and they agreed on it. After about six weeks his father said, “Son, you’ve brought your grades up and I’ve observed that you have been studying your Bible, but I’m disappointed you haven’t had your hair cut.” The boy said, “You know, Dad, I’ve been thinking about that, and I’ve noticed in my studies of the Bible that Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had long hair, Moses had long hair, and there’s even strong evidence that Jesus had long hair.” Dad’s reply was “Did you also notice that they all walked everywhere they went?”

A Chinese walks into a bar in America late one night and he saw Steven Spielberg. As he was a great fan of his movies, he rushes over to him, and asks for his autograph. Instead, Spielberg gives him a slap and says, “You Chinese people bombed our Pearl Harbor, get outta here.” The astonished Chinese man replied, “It was not the Chinese who bombed your Pearl Harbor, it was the Japanese”. “Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, you’re all the same,” replied Spielberg. In return, the Chinese gives Spielberg a slap and says, “You sank the Titanic, my forefathers were on that ship.” Shocked, Spielberg replies, “It was the iceberg that sank the ship, not me.” The Chinese replies, “Iceberg, Spielberg, Carlsberg, you’re all the same.”
In a small Southern town there was a “Nativity Scene” that showed great skill and talent had gone into creating it. One small feature bothered me. The three wise men were wearing firemen’s helmets. Totally unable to come up with a reason or explanation, I left. At a “Quick Stop” on the edge of town, I asked the lady behind the counter about the helmets. She exploded into a rage, yelling at me, “You Yankees never do read the Bible!” I assured her that I did, but simply couldn’t recall anything about firemen in the Bible. She jerked her Bible from behind the counter and ruffled through some pages, and finally jabbed her finger at a passage. Sticking it in my face she said, “See, it says right here, ‘The three wise man came from afar.’”
A man and his wife had been married for going on fifty years. They shared everything, but the one thing the old man’s wife asked him never to do was look in a old shoebox she kept on the top shelf of her closet. Not thinking anything of it, the man never asked about its contents. He just figured it was one of those things. One day, when the old woman had fallen ill and didn’t have much
There are a lot of holiday parties coming up at the White House. Obama is getting ready to host the Administration’s first Hanukkah party tomorrow. It was kind of an embarrassing moment, though. Today, after they lit the menorah, Biden blew it out and made a wish. A teenage boy had just passed his driving test and inquired of his father as to when they could discuss his use of the car. His father said he’d make a deal with his son, “You bring your grades up from a C to a B average, study your Bible a little and get your hair cut. Then we’ll talk about the car.”
A Sunday School teacher of pre-schoolers was concerned that his students might be a little confused about Jesus Christ because of the Christmas season emphasis on His birth. He wanted to make sure they understood that the birth of Jesus occurred a long time ago, that He grew up, etc. So he asked his class, “Where is Jesus today?” Steven raised his hand and said, “He’s in heaven.” Mary was called on and answered, “He’s in my heart.” Little Johnny, waving his hand furiously, blurted out, “I know, I know! He’s in our bathroom!” the whole class got very quiet, looked at the teacher, and waited a few very long seconds. He finally gathered his wits and asked Little Johnny how he knew this. Little Johnny said, “Well, every morning, my father gets up, bangs on the bathroom door and yells: Jesus Christ, are you still in there?” He was in ecstasy, with a huge smile on his face as his wife moved forwards then backwards, forward then backward, again and again. Back and forth, back and forth, in and out, a little to the right, a little to the left, she could feel the sweat on her forehead, between her breasts, and trickling down the small of her back, she was getting near to the end. Her heart was pounding, her face was flushed, she moaned, softly at first, then began to groan louder. Finally, totally exhausted, she let out a piercing scream and shouted; “OK, OK, you smug bastard, I can’t parallel park the car, you do it.”

Merry CHRISTmas Can you believe it’s already Christmas? It seems like only last week we were in Daytona for Biketoberfest. Thinking back, I remember Christmas stuff already on store shelves weeks before Halloween. Doesn’t that seem to take away from the excitement and joy of the Christmas season? Seems like stores have created a rush to get to the next holiday, mostly because of sales or moving current inventory or a whole list of things. I remember as a child, Christmas came after Thanksgiving, not before Halloween. The focus was on the true meaning of the season. His name is Jesus. Matthew 1:24 “Behold a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” So you see the most amazing gift ever given was the Savior of the world. The birth of Christ wasn’t a big production filled with countdowns or promotions or gilts and glamour, but a quiet event with just a few chosen ones God sent to be part of it. Every Christmas we get caught up in “gifts”. What to get for this or that person, what gifts I’d like to get from others. Well, this Christmas I have an idea for the greatest gift ever given! No shopping. No price comparisons. No wrapping. This gift is free. His name is Jesus. He is our Christmas gift! Share this gift with everyone you know. The true reason for Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Will you accept this gift? It’s
free! You can have it right now. Pray the biker prayer on this page, mean it in your heart, and accept the best gift you will ever receive. In “HIS” wind, Popkorn

Inaugural NC Motorcycle Awareness Rally After motorcyclists Bob Gillespy 57, was fatally injured and Mickey Wyatt was injured on 9/11 in Raleigh, NC, Steve Usaf and Mark Messmore stepped up and organized the first NC Motorcycle Awareness Rally on Friday, October 24th. The two men went to work immediately inviting 3.6K motorcyclists across North Carolina, putting out fliers, and asking for attention from the media. Mark even had event patches made. From 2000-2010 motorcycle fatalities increased by 65% in NC while other states across the nation were seeing a decrease. We have since seen a slight decrease in motorcycle fatalities, but we are still losing an average of over 150 motorcyclists here in NC annually. As we all know, a large percentage of these fatalities are due to negligent/distracted operators of cages and we are ALL tired of losing brothers and sisters to so many avoidable accidents! According to FARS, up to 85% of motorcycle accidents are “avoidable”! While 163 riders signed up to attend the event, only 40 riders on 28 bikes and 2 cages actually showed up. We all met in the Wal-Mart parking lot on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh and rode with police escorts to the designated parking lot close to the NC Capital. WRAL was at the parking lot waiting to film the rally supporters with signs. After the interview with WRAL, the riders walked first to the Capital and then to the Wake County Courthouse, while holding signs for all to see. Signs ranged from “Bikers Have Families, Too” with pictures of accident victims, to “Look Twice Save A Life”, statistics of motorcycle victims lost in NC, “Save A Life - Stop Texting”, and more. Once at the courthouse and directly across from ABC11 News, there was a 2nd interview. Quite frankly, neither aired! Apparently, like most non-riders, people just don’t care! Let it be known, the bikers who did show up did a wonderful job! There was great fellowship, and the event drew a lot
of attention from passing motorists, people on sidewalks, newscasters, and a few in suits headed to the courthouse. Members from Bikers For Bikers Foundation (BFBF) and Help A Brother Out (HABO), 2 wonderful biker nonprofits who support bikers, also supported the event! The peaceful protest/rally lasted approximately 2 hours, as planned by Steve & Mark. Both curators did a fabulous job from beginning to end. Afterwards many of the riders met at Back In The Day Café in Cary, NC for some great food and fellowship! It was my first time there. The food and service was very good, as well as the atmosphere. They host a number of biker events monthly and regularly have some rocking bands. The owners ride and were both at the rally supporting whole-heartedly. After the event, Mark Messmore generously donated the funds from the patches sold to BFBF for the Cumberland County Foster Children’s Christmas Fund, as well as a generous donation from his own pocket. Owners of Back In The Day Café also made a generous donation to the Cumberland County Foster Children’s Christmas Fund. So, all funds made were actually donated to a charitable cause. It’s time to take a stand my fellow riders. I always say, bikers help everyone, but no one helps a biker except another biker! The 2nd Annual NC Motorcycle Awareness Rally will be Oct. 24th, 2015 Watch for posts on Facebook events. Kudos to Steve and Mark for stepping up and those who went the extra mile and supported the Motorcycle Awareness Rally event!

Harley-Davidson Dominates NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle Class
Andrew Hines and Eddie Krawiec at zMAX Dragway in Concord, NC Story and photo by Alan Dockery Andrew Hines had a great 2014 season in the National Hot Rod Association’s Pro Stock Motorcycle class. During the year he rode the Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle / Vance & Hines V-Rod to six wins and the national championship His Harley-Davidson teammate, Eddie Krawiec, had five wins and finished 69 points behind Hines for second place in the points. Three experienced racers represented the Carolinas in the Pro Stock Motorcycle Class. Matt Smith, King, NC, took his Nitro Fish Buell to third in the points. Angie Smith, King, NC, got a win this season on the Kandy Magazine Buell and finished ninth. Shawn Gann, Stoneville, NC, rode the Pirana Z Racing Buell to 14th for the season. For Hines, this was his fourth NHRA Mello Yello World Championship and became the second rider to win four Pro Stock Motorcycle titles. Started in 2002, the Harley-Davidson team has won seven NHRA championships. Andrew is the son of American Motorcyclist Association Hall of Fame inductee Byron Hines and has 38 national event wins. Pat Brase And B.J. Whitley Win 12 Annual WTT Vintage Motorcycle Raffle th
By: Matt Walksler Saturday, November 15th, over one thousand visitors gathered at Wheels Through Time to witness the museum’s 12th Annual Vintage Motorcycle Raffle Giveaway. Sunny skies and brisk temperatures kept the crowd on their feet as the museum made two lucky ticket holders the winners of the 1935 and 1936 Harley-Davidson VL Flathead Bobbers. The day’s festivities began as the 23rd Annual Haywood County Toy Run left downtown Canton headed for Wheels Through Time. Despite morning temperatures well below freezing, over 250 motorcycles braved the weather to help the children of Haywood County. After a catered barbeque lunch put on by the Blue Ridge Thunder Motorcycle Club, all attention turned to the stage in anticipation of the drawing that would determine the new owners of two genuine American classics. This year, two Grand Prize machines were up for grabs – a pair of 1935 and 1936 Harley-Davidson VL Flathead Bobbers. Over the past year, these two beautiful machines helped the 2014 Museum Raffle become the largest Wheels Through Time fundraiser to date, raising much needed revenue for WTT to build new exhibits, expand its interpretation, and improve the overall museum experience for its visitors. When it came time to draw the winning tickets, all in attendance fell silent, then on Dale’s mark, began a 20 second countdown as an energetic youngster dove in to the thousands of tickets head first. As the countdown reached zero, the little girl held out two tickets – one in each of her outstretched arms. As indicated in the drawings rules, the first ticket pulled would be the proud new owner of Bike #1 – the 1935 HarleyDavidson VLD Bobber. The winner was Pat Brase from Ft. Wayne, IN. Pat first visited the museum three years ago, and after having such a great time during his first stop, he came back this past 4th of July weekend with friends. During his visit he donated a 1951 AMA Riders Book, which he proudly mentioned include a mention of his uncle, who was one of
the first racers in Indiana to have an AMA national number. Before his visit was over, he decided to buy 7 tickets for the museum’s annual raffle. Pat’s family has been riding motorcycles for over a century. One of his prized possessions is a photograph from a motorcycle race in 1910, with his grandfather and great-grandfather in the front row. Pat himself has been riding for over 50 years, and is the senior Chaplain for the Indian Patriot Guard Riders. He has even owned a few “old bikes” along the way. “When I started riding, you had to be a mechanic, so I learned,” Pat said. “My dad rode Harleys, and taught me a lot.” His first motorcycle was a Harley-Davidson 125cc “Hummer” and later, he and his brother together bought a 1936 Harley-Davidson VLH. Although the bike was a basket case and incomplete, the two had big plans to get it running. But when an interested party made them an offer they couldn’t refuse, they decided to let it go. Now, decades later, Pat is again the proud owner of a genuine Harley-Davidson VL Flathead. With the help of his wife and son, he has decided that he’ll be taking the bike instead of the alternate cash prize. Winner of Bike #2 - the 1936 Harley-Davidson VL “Dale Special” Bobber is B.J. Whitley from Garner, North Carolina. While B.J. lives only a few hours away, he had never visited the Smoky Mountains until this year. He and his wife’s first visit to the area, and to Wheels Through Time was during the exact same week that Pat Brase, winner of Bike #1, visited the museum. B.J. is the second Carolina winner in the past two years (last year’s grand prize was taken home by a South Carolina resident). When speaking of his July visit to Wheels Through Time, he said that the diversity and the number of machines on display impressed him, citing the American Board Track Racing Exhibit and the Chopper Graveyard as two of his favorite areas of the museum. He recalled watching in amazement as Dale and Matt cranked up bike after bike, and couldn’t believe it when Dale jumped aboard a 1915 Harley and rode out the

front door. During his visit to Wheels Through Time, B.J. bought 14 tickets for the annual raffle, mainly to help support the museum’s mission. Little did he know that just over four months later, he would get a phone call that would change his life. B.J. and his wife Shelby have been riding motorcycles most of their lives. His first bike was a Honda 450 that he eventually converted into a 3-wheel machine with a Harley Servicar rear end. Although he has never ridden a bike with a footclutch and tank-shift, he is excited to give the ’36 Flathead Bobber a go. Also during Saturday’s festivities, Wheels Through Time unveiled the new Grand Prize for the 13th Annual Vintage Motorcycle Raffle in 2015. Next year’s lucky winner will take home a stunning 1939 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead bobber custom built by Wendell Turner at Turner’s Cycle Shop in South Lyon, Michigan. Tickets are on sale at WheelsThroughTime.com/2015raffle. The Wheels Through Time museum would like to thank each and every participant that contributed to the 2014 Vintage Motorcycle Raffle. Each year, thousands of generous individuals support the museum through its raffle fundraiser, and make it possible for WTT to continue to fulfill its mission to educate and inspire a diverse audience about the history of American transportation.
