I
t is hard for me to grasp that it is 2014! Remember all the hype over Y2K? Did anything really happen? NO! What a bust that was! Well, I do not anticipate anything like the hysteria that we saw then with Y214K, but there are some things that you can do to help assure a happy and prosperous new year. I always resolve to ride more, laugh more, and loose weight. ALWAYS! However, it almost never happens. I try, but it is like some weight loss commercial on TV. I always expect results, but rarely make an inch of progress in any area of endeavor. Isn’t doing the same thing, but expecting a different result the definition of insanity? Mark Twain, famous for his witty sayings once penned, “New Year’s Day... now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual.” So plan those trips to Daytona, and other overnight trips now. You can also place that order for Nutrisystem. They have plans for both men and women. But I am going go it alone again this year. Call me crazy, it’s OK, but I seem to march to the beat of a different drummer, at least for today. So, if the road to hell is paved with good intentions, I must be on the interstate, because I have a lot of good intentions. Look out 2014, here I come and this isn‘t my first rodeo, either. Here’s wishing you a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year. How you get there is up to you.

OUTER BANKS HARLEY-DAVIDSON®
The Outer Banks BEST Kept Bikers’ Secret
The cool ocean breezes, breath-taking scenic riding along over 100 miles of barrier islands and fantastic watering holes make Outer Banks Harley-Davidson® a rider’s destination, and home to one of the best spring rallies on the East Coast, Outer Banks Bike Week™. Outer Banks Harley-Davidson®, is located in Harbinger just two miles north of the Wright Brothers Memorial Bridge, the gateway to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Outer Banks Harley-Davidson® is a full service dealership including Authorized Harley-Davidson® Rentals. As the host dealership for Outer Banks Bike Week™, Outer Banks H-D® serves as the hub for rally activities. Several guided tours are provided by the Outer Banks H.O.G. Chapter on a daily basis, to include the “Run 4 The Ferry” ride. This 80 mile southern beaches excursion takes riders to places that pirates traveled 300 years ago such as the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse (the tallest light house in the U.S.), and then for those who are interested, onto the Hatteras-Ocracoke Ferry to Ocracoke Island. Many describe the 30-40 minute ferry ride as just plain relaxing while they check out the endangered brown pelicans skydiving into the sea for food, or just letting the gentle NC ocean breeze take all their worries out to sea.
Other activities during Bike Week include the traditional activities such as bike shows, poker runs, vendors on-site as well as 9 other locations, live bands, Miss Bike Week bikini contests, tattoo contests, evening party spots, and yes, even cole-slaw wrestling. There is a little something for everyone. In town for the event every year is the H-D® Demo Fleet, where you can test ride a current model year Harley-Davidson® motorcycle. There are hundreds of miles of beachfront riding, or if you prefer, explore the marshlands south of Manteo. One of the other area attractions is the Corolla Wild Horses. Until recent years, the Outer Banks of North Carolina were considered some of the most isolated and under-developed areas in the country. The Corolla Wild Horses are believed to have roamed over the past four centuries on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. There are also five historical lighthouses stretching along the 100 miles of coastline of the Outer Banks from the Currituck Lighthouse all the way down to Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Don’t forget, the Outer Banks are also home of the Wright Brothers and their historical first flight, and Jockey’s Ridge, the largest natural sand dune on the east coast.

16th Annual Brenner Children’s Hospital Toy Run By: WildThing This toy run has been blessed with decent, even good weather at times, but that was not the case on Saturday, December 14th. Winter storm Electra was bearing down on North Carolina from the west and we were riding west – right into the rain. Despite the gloomy forecast around 45 motorcycles lined up behind the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department Motor Patrol and Mark and Tara Wheelihan’s motorcycles on Farragut Street in front of the Harley-Davidson of Greensboro dealership. The dealership truck and trailer were parked at the front door and several of “Santa’s helpers” were loading the toys into the trailer. The showroom was a buzz with Christmas excitement and anticipation of the trip to Brenner, a favorite of so many in the Triad area. About the time we were suited up and warming up motors, the rain arrived in Greensboro, dashing all hope for a dry ride. I am sure, as the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department escorted us out I-40 and were assisted by the Greensboro Police Department blocking on and off ramps, the other motorists on the highway must have thought we were looney! Thank God, everyone arrived at the hospital safely. There is a lot of fanfare when the bikes and toys arrive. The hospital staff is on hand with carts to haul the toys to a sorting room and any kids that are able come down to see the bikes get their pick of the unwrapped toys. They tell us that Christmas at Brenner begins with the roar of motorcycles! The Child Life staff always has cocoa and scrumptious cookies on hand for all the “elves”. After the toys are out of the trailer, Mark Wheelihan gathers the riders together and thanks them for their participation and reads the list of sponsors who support the ride, many of whom have done so for
years. He especially thanked the rider who rode all the way from Swansboro, NC that morning to participate. This year a record $22,718 in cash was presented to Beth Whicker, Child Life Specialist at Brenner. The sponsors and donators make their checks out to Brenner Children’s Hospital, so there is no question about where the money goes. Also, more toys than ever were brought into the hospital this year. Thanks to all the sponsors who contributed to this year’s toy run: Advanced Technologies, Signature Properties, Freedom Biker Church, Chase-Logeman Corp, Triad Bad Lasses, Triad HOG Chapter, Buffalo Soldiers, Karney Law Firm, Schiffman’s Jewelry, Jarret’s Sheet Metal, Guilford County Sheriff’s Department, Greensboro Police Department, R&R Auto Care, Painted Plate Catering, Triad Goodwill, Ingredion Incorporated, Woodman of the World Life Insurance, Northwestern Mutual, Breslow Starling, Slatter Management Services Inc., Chunk’s Hawg Haven, The Red T-Shirt Company, GSO Printing, Brenner Children’s Hospital, Greensboro Harley-Davidson, and The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. Beth thanked everyone profusely and remarked that the staff would prepare age and gender specific bags of toys for all the children in the hospital Christmas morning as well as their siblings. The leftover toys and cash would be used throughout the year for little patients who were in the hospital during their birthday or other significant days. She assured us all that the money stayed in the Child Life Department and would only be used for the kids and does not go into the general fund. Thinking of these youngsters and their families being in the hospital over Christmas makes a little ride in the rain insignificant. See you next year.

1st Annual NMBHD Toy Run By: Everette “EZ” Short In a bold move, The Harley Shop at the Beach (North Myrtle Beach HD) organized and executed an absolutely fantastic, first ever toy run on Sunday December 15th. The weather was spectacularly warm for a Sunday in December and the turn out was outstanding. Kickstands went up just after 1pm, as a good city block of bikes (no one seems to know exactly how many actually showed up) joined Santa on a trike to take over Kings Highway. While tooling down Ocean Boulevard, there were plenty of waves and cheers while they passed by the onlookers in traffic and cagers along the way to Captain Poo’s, the bestkept secret location for fun and frolic on the beach. When we got there, the owners, Mike & Rhonda (with the help of all their incredibly elfish and good looking staff) were there to greet everyone with an absolutely delicious free fish cookout that included all the fixings. About two hours into the hew-hah, when the raffle prize was announced, it turned out that it was snagged by none other than the world famous custom builder Scott Britt, who is the new manager for The Harley Shop at the Beach. With sweeping style and grace, Scott donated all the money back to charity and there was joyous merriment all throughout the kingdom! Again, a whole lot of the local motorcycle clubs came together without incident, accident, or arguments for a fantastic cause and, in the end, everyone was a winner with schwag (hats, tee shirts and prizes) galore. Those who ignored the weatherman’s lies to follow Santa on his wondrous journey towards a Christmas with toys for children who might not otherwise have any enjoyed some of the best riding weather we’ve seen in a long time! I’ve got to send a JOB WELL DONE everyone who helped make this ride a success. May your New Year be as blessed as the hearts that organized this incredible toy run. I hope to see twice as many of you show up for the next one. Stop by to see Scott Britt and his amazing elves at 4002 Highway #17 in

Thumper’s Holiday Charity Run For Turning Point
By: Stan Gordon It was one of them days when you could have stayed at home and sat by the fire. But in true biker fashion over a hundred people gathered at Iron Horse drank coffee and reminisced together before braving the cold, rainy weather ahead to honor an old friend. Thumper’s mission was to bring awareness to victims of domestic violence, raise money, and gather toys for the children in those situations. This was one of those events that reflected the wide range of friends that Thumper had during his life on this earth. Many of the attendees drove their cages; let’s just say that they needed covered vehicles to transport all the toys and gifts. If you happened to be a regular Joe driving thru town when these assorted elves and scooter looters rode by you knew you had seen something unique. To top it all off, their destination was Life Church in Monroe where Dano Janowski had a reception planned with Christian greetings and warm beverages for all. As we get older things change, people change. The players of this game we call life seem to take on different roles. Those hard-core guys from back in the day become grand fathers, their hearts soften, some of them even wear red suits, and their beards turn white. If you don’t believe me just ask CW Smith. I think if Thumper were here today he would say this, “Don’t waste your time trying to make men believe had bad you are, but spend it doing good. The rewards are much greater in the end!” I sat across the isle from Thumper those last days of
his life at Freedom Biker Church. I saw his pain, but I was thankful that he had found peace and solitude in God’s House before his passing. My father always told me, “Take time to be good to old folks and children.” Thanks Thumper. , 5,'(

“Our firm is a reliable and fully qualified accounting firm, offering true value to our clients through our experience and provided services,” Bill said. “We love helping individuals and businesses reduce their time maintaining financial records by using accounting applications available today. Our firm offers a no-fee introductory one-hour consultation for new accounting and tax resolution clients. During this appointment we discuss our qualifications while exploring the accounting needs of the client.” “Millions of Americans owe back taxes,” Bill said. “Owing back taxes to the IRS is stressful, and negligence only worsens things. The IRS has powerful collection tools that can disrupt your life. Back taxes need to be resolved before the IRS garnishes your wages, puts a lien on your home, or levies your bank accounts. During the complimentary consultation, we will provide you with an honest and comprehensive evaluation of your current tax situation and explore possible services that we may provide to assist you with possible solutions to your current tax situation.” “We are here, not just through tax season, but year round. Due to the numerous changes clients are faced with impacting both business and personal finances, individuals and businesses are required to spend a considerable amount of time to stay informed so they can plan and make wise decisions. We value our clients and their time. We can help by being available for questions and offering various workshops providing our clients with helpful financial resources and information. We want to be your year-round Certified Public Accounting Firm.” Visit www.BillMartinCPA.com for information, helpful links, and to download a tax organizer. 3rd Annual Children’s Charity Toy Run By: Mark “Stretch” Carlyle On November 30th The Fishheads hosted their 3rd Annual Children’s Charity Toy run. Well, needless to say, it was a COLD 27º when we arrived at River City Bar and Grill for the start of the toy run. Quite a few braved the elements wearing all kinds of garb. Santa and a Teddy Bear lead the procession down Hwy 150 into Lincolnton, NC. From Lincolnton we rode down Hwy 73 to Denver, NC ending at Twin Oaks Bar & Grill. Thirty-seven bikes and 12 cars participated in the run. When we arrived at Twin Oaks, they provided a Bar B-Que meal. We totaled the monies at $2200 and countless toys, coats, etc. All proceeds are going to Rock Springs Elementary School’s angel tree in Lincoln County, NC. For those of you not familiar with the Fisheads, they are just a group of friends, both male and female riders, that just want to give back to their respective communities by raising money for local charities and families with needs. These are some of the friendliest people I’ve had the opportunity to ride with. They asked me to say Merry Christmas to all who read this! Let’s also remember all of our brave men and women who serve our country past and present!

Traditionally, this is one of the largest events held in the Lowcountry. Despite the 40º weather, well over 300 bikes attended the event. The ride took the group, escorted by the Sheriff’s Department, to Mt. Pleasant and a return trip to the fairgrounds. Many vendors were in attendance. Uniformed Marines were everywhere and the large transport truck that is seen at every Toys For Tots event collected the toys from the participants.

And The WTT Motorcycle Raffle Winner Is …….. By: Matt Walksler After a full year of anticipation, the Annual Wheels Through Time Museum Motorcycle Raffle Giveaway is in the books, and another lucky winner has been chosen to take home a piece of genuine motorcycle history. On Saturday, November 18th, over 2500 visitors from near and far descended on Wheels Through Time to witness the museum’s 11th Annual Raffle in as many years. Dry weather and warm November temperatures made for a perfect day for the event, which draws one of the biggest museum crowds of the year. A TV production crew was also on hand at Wheels Through Time to film the event for an upcoming episode of “What’s in the Barn?”, the Velocity Channel’s new hit series, which stars museum curator, Dale Walksler. The raffle is WTT’s largest fundraiser, and helps keep the museum up and running. Each year, proceeds go directly toward creating new exhibits, enhancing current displays, expanding interpretation, and improving general operations. This year’s Grand Prize was a stunner - a beautiful 1939 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead Bobber brought back to life in the Wheels Through Time Restoration Shop. Many of the visitors took part in the Annual Haywood County Toy Run, which began in Canton, NC and made its way to WTT in Maggie Valley. Now in its 22nd year, the Haywood County Toy Run brings thousands of motorcyclists together to raise funds for underprivileged youth in Haywood County. Put on by Blue Ridge Thunder Motorcycle Club, the run has raised approximately $150,000 since it began in 1992. This year, almost 1000 bikes signed up from the run, from as far away as New York and Texas. When it came time for the drawing, one little girl from the crowd was chosen to pick the winning ticket. The Grand Prize winner was Mr. Randy Horn from Chester, South Carolina. Randy visited the museum with friends in June 2013, during the museum’s “What’s In the Barn?” Season Premier Party. While touring the museum, Randy took a chance on the ’39 Knucklehead Bobber and purchased 14 tickets for the drawing. Little did he know, that less than six month later, he would be chosen as the lucky winner of a WTT-built classic.

It didn’t take long for Randy to decide that he’s taking the bike instead of the cash prize. “I was working, having one of the worst days I’d had in a while,” he said. “There could not have been a better thing to brighten my day!” It’ll make a great addition to the garage. Luckily, Randy has a bit of experience when it comes to old motorcycles. He owns a few himself, including a 1947 Knucklehead that he’s been riding for over 30 years! He has been a member of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America for 12 years, and is the current president of the club’s Catawba Chapter, which is based near his home in South Carolina. He has visited the museum on several occasions since it relocated to Maggie Valley, the first time being in 2002 before the museum was officially open. He’s been buying tickets for the annual motorcycle raffle since his first few visits, each time assuring himself that, “This year, this bike is gonna be mine!” This makes the second year in a row that a member of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America has won the Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Raffle Grand Prize. Last year’s winner was James Eldridge from High Ridge, Missouri. James has been spotted at various AMCA meets and ride-ins on the museum’s previous raffle machine — a 1932 Harley-Davidson VL Hot Rod Bobber. And in case you were wondering how Wheels Through Time is going to up the ante for the 2014 Motorcycle Giveaway, Dale and crew have decided to offer not one, but two Grand Prize machines for next years raffle; a pair of hot-rod HarleyDavidson VL Flathead Bobbers. The pair will be raffled off to two lucky winners next November. For more information on the 2014 Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Raffle, visit www. WheelsThroughTime.com/2014raffle.

Steele Angels 10th Annual Toy Run
By: Wendy “Breezy” Rogers The Steele Angels held their 10th Annual Toy Run on November 23, 2013, and the weather was cooperating pretty well. The rain moved on out so the run could begin. This year the run began at Freedom Biker Church and went to Legend’s Pub. In the past the run would leave from Legend’s Pub, but since it was their 10th year, they wanted to have it end at Legend’s because they have been so good to the Steele Angels over the past 10 years. Although many other sponsors have supported this run, it was time to have the event where it all started. Legend’s Pub has been around since 1997 and been a great support to many organizations and charities. We are grateful to have this establishment in Fayetteville, NC. The Steele Angels presented a plaque to Holly and her crew to show appreciation for her dedication for the past 10 years. There was so much good food; bar-b-que, chicken, home cooked vegetables, and many sweets. Ken, the auctioneer, did an awesome job talking up the items to be auctioned off. The DJ was playing so many different kinds of music that he could not have missed anybody’s taste in music. They had a 50/50 and lots of door prizes. and surrounding counties. They provide toys for the kids and some gift cards to Wal-Mart so they can have a nice Christmas dinner. Unfortunately, The number of homeless families and children in this area is on the rise. It’s been a tough year for many and it’s very sad that the children have to take on such misfortune of some of these parents. The children are helpless and need any help they can get. This area is a very giving community. I have seen it and know it because I hear of the things that are actually going on behind the scenes. So, I want to take this time and say “Thank you” for giving and caring, because without people that come to these rides and support them, the Steele Angels would be nothing. This organization collects toys and donations for the registration fee. It is always held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The Steele Angel’s also has a Back to School Run in August. Mark your calendars for next year’s event. Watch The Carolina’s Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for future Steele Angels events.

The Thunderous Wedding
By: Everette “EZ” Short On Saturday, November 23rd, guests and family assembled in the most spendifferous occasion to witness our own beloved artist, Don “Thunder” Baggett, and his beautiful bride Kelly Shull tie the knot. In case you’ve been living under a rock or have recently fell into a turkey induced coma and don’t know who he is, Thunder wields the pen and talent behind our very own “Thunderzone” comics as seen monthly in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. He has been creating cartoonious humor for us since January of 2001 and probably drawing badd choppers before he could even say “Baby Doll”. When Kelly met Thunder here at the Beach House in 1999, it was a fated blending of two great souls, Kismet if you will, and these two have been inseparable ever since. The small circle of friends at the ceremony were all gathered from deep within the who’s who list of motorcycle madness at the event, which was held inside their home. The entire house was all dolled up like a Christmas Winter Wonderland snow globe with candy canes, nutcracker soldiers, and a Santa at every turn. The family included Kelly’s Aunt Beth, her sister, Lorey, and niece, Kacie, but when these two came together, with Kelly wrapped in a breath taking red dress and Thunder in a Mad Hatter’s top hat, everyone became family under the auspices of world famous racer/reverend/action hero, JC Childers. The event was a nuptial whoop-dee-do that left no eye dry by the time they said, “I do” to the popping cork of
happiness with under the long deep kiss of a lifelong celebration! Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Don and Kelly “Thunder” Baggett, All the best for all the times to come. It was my honor to be there. Go see their pictures on Facebook and tell them “Hooty Hoooo!” for yourself.

11th Annual Arzie Rogers Memorial Toy Run
By: Rose and Lloyd For the last 11 years, Speedway Harley-Davidson and Speedway H.O.G. Chapter #1150 has sponsored a toy ride in November for The Cooperative Christian Ministries for The Empty Stocking Fund. This year on November 24th, it was no exception. The bikers met at the Intimidators Stadium in Kannapolis. The Robinson JROTC assisted in parking and forming up the bikes. The Ladies of Harley from the H.O.G. chapter did the registration and served hot coffee and snacks. In the past years it has been a little cool when starting out, but as the day progressed it would turn nice and warm. This year, unfortunately, the coffee was a necessity. The temperature was around 23Âş with 19 mile an hour winds. It was definitely cold, but did that stop the bikers? NO! They still showed up with toys and with smiles on their faces. The Charlotte H.O.G. continued their challenge and tried to out number the Speedway Chapter in bikes, unfortunately the Speedway Chapter took the trophy for another year.

Even in the cold, there was great entertainment with the DJ, line dancing, and a lot of fun. Approximately 168 bikes were there, including the riders, about 183 attended. The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Department and the Iredell County Sheriff’s Department took us on a beautiful ride through the country and downtown Concord. As always, people were lined up on streets to see the bikes going by and supporting such a wonderful cause. They lead us safely back to Speedway Harley-Davidson for more entertainment and great food from Jim N Nicks. We enjoyed raffles provided by Bob Karney Law Firm and Tsunami Restaurant. There was a 50/50. The weather did not stop the bikers, but also several people came to the dealership for the festivities and brought their toys in cages. Many thanks go out to so many people for all their work and participation, The YMCA and The Cooperative Christian Ministries for all their help. A Special Thanks to Jamie Abercrombie in her first year, but who did a great job seeing that all was taken care of. To Amy Rogers, who has, and will continue on in her father’s influence to be a legend in the community with a heart that all can count on and I know she will carry on the legacy of Arzie Rogers, by, in her name, giving these kids hope for a Christmas every year. The Hugh “thank you to all the bikers, some coming from hours away braving the cold and wind, to participate, but making sure that in Arzie Roger’s name, the children would have a Christmas. Thank you all and we will see you next year for the 12th Annual Arzie Rogers Memorial Toy Ride.

Lincoln County Toys For Tots By: Mark “Stretch” Carlyle On Saturday, December 7th, about 40 riders came out to Iron Station Thunder in Lincolnton, NC for the annual Lincoln County Toys For Tots run. Although it was in the Mid 20’s the riders showed their support. The event’s purpose was to raise and provide toys for about 800 area children. Starting at Iron Station Thunder, Lincoln County Sherriff’s Department escorted the riders through Lincolnton to Denver and ended back in Lincolnton at Zippers Restaurant. Upon arriving the DJ turned up the jams and the restaurant brought out the food for everyone. As usual everyone had a great time telling lies and just cutting up! The event was a great success raising over $1000 and a truckload of toys for the children. This program was sponsored Capt. Jeb F. Seagle of the Marine Corps League. They hope to make this bigger and much better next year! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS DONATED!

‘Tis The Season
By: Gypsy Rose What’s better than Ray Price’s wining race team? His out of this world customer Christmas party. On Saturday, December 14th Ray and Jean Price held their annual customer Christmas party, something they have done since 1982. Despite the cold and gloomy, rainy day, about 300 customers strolled in throughout the day. The band Big Rick and The Bombers played a variety of music. There was food and everyone loves free food. They started the morning with Krispy Kreme Donuts and coffee. For lunch they had Jersey Mike’s subs and pizza from Big Cheese Pizza. There were cookies and nuts as well, and if you didn’t like any of that, Groovy Dogs had a hot dog stand set up outside. Ray offered free gift wrapping to those who shopped and man were them girls busy. There were door prizes being given away every 30 minutes and the Raleigh Chapter H.O.G. members were selling raffle tickets for a 2014 bike to be given away December 19th. Seeing Miss Jean and several others dancing to Proud Mary was a real treat, too! The real treat of this party was Santa and the smiles on all the little ones face as they climbed up on his lap to tell him what they wanted for Christmas. Ray and Jean would like to

Daniel L. Safrit P.R.A.I.S.E. Foundation Ride
By: Charles Holcombe AKA Uwharrie Charlie Rowan Co. (Salisbury, NC) September 27th, 2013 was the place and date of the loss of a loved one, a child, bullied to the point of suicide. What goes through the mind of an 11-year old victim as they initiate their final demise? How about those that put that person in such a frightened and confused state that they would take their own life? This is a serious, vicious, and brutal act happening on the playgrounds and in schools and all over the USA. On November 16th one member of the Rockwell Ghost Rider’s MC decided to draw attention to a very local situation. Mike, AKA “Monkey Butt” was charged with putting together the first in a series of “Bikers Against Adolescent Bullying” type ride in the Rowan County area. Riders from several surrounding counties were present as well. There was not a person on this ride that was not serious about what the ride was about. Fifty-one people on bikes and about 20 others showed up for this ride that started at Stars And Bars Tavern in Salisbury. After 3 stops, the grand stop was the GRMC-Rockwell Clubhouse and the place where all the food was cooking. The band was Rock - U - Charlotte and they were awesome, as usual. Everyone in the band is less than 18 years old and plays better than most adult bands I’ve seen! They play for tips and earned $98 and donated it all back to the DLS Foundation! When the father of Daniel, Scottie Safrit, got to the stage to say a few words of thanks to the staff and participants, you could hear a pin drop. Along with food, there was an auction, 50/50 drawing, and door prizes. At last count $1400 was raised for the cause! Monkey Butt and the GRMC-Rockwell received way too many compliments to mention on this page but the consensus is they did a great job and much respect was gained from folks that were at the clubhouse for the first time. It was a great day for a ride with great folks for a great cause! Be sure to check out all the photos from the ride at www. FullThrottleMagazine.com. Photo contributors were Everett Hiatt, Belinda Young, Monkey Butt, and Lynn Burris. Scottie and Tina Safrit hope to make this an annual event and are thinking about September. Watch for it in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Crusin’ Calendar. You can find out more about the Daniel L. Safrit P.R.A.I.S.E. (People Raising Awareness In Schools Everywhere) Foundation and their goals & mission at: DaniellSafritPraiseFoundation.webs.com. If you couldn’t make the ride and wish to help the cause, you can do it through info supplied on the website! R.I.P. Daniel.

Statesville H.O.G. Jingle Bell Toy Run By: Alan Dockery The Saturday before Thanksgiving bikers gathered at Tilley Harley-Davidson in Statesville, NC, for the H.O.G. Chapter’s Jingle Bell Toy Run and to celebrate Don and Robinette Tilley’s 41st year as dealers. The toy run turned out to be more than just a ride across town. Escorted by Iredell County Sheriff Department Motorcycle Officers, we enjoyed a nice ride through the countryside north of Statesville. They took us on roads many riders had not seen. The Jingle Bell Toy Run partners the Statesville H.O.G. Chapter with Bethlehem United Methodist Church to provide clothes, toys, and food for the under-privileged children of the Celeste Henkel School community. As the riders pulled into the church, who should appear but Santa (Tim Goforth) in a custom sleigh pulled by Ron Thomas on his three-wheeler. At the church we had a spaghetti dinner while the elves gave out door prizes. “Lots of preparation went into this event,’ said organizer Cindy Henderson. “There are so many people to thank. The H.O.G. members on the committee, Don Henderson, Stephen and Barbara Gilreath, Regina Welsted, Kevin Krug, Wiley Burrus, Kay MacGillvray, Calvin Wong, Maggie Chigi, got sponsors for our T-Shirts, food and door prizes. Pam Watts and Lori Goforth prepared the food. Thanks for all our volunteers, without them it would not have been possible. A big thank you to Tilley H-D for providing the T-shirts.” “Thanks to the riders who came out and the Catawba Valley H.O.G. Chapter for supporting our event, Mike Dyson for loaning us the Santa Sleigh, and Officers Chris Smith, Darrin Hill, and Adam Blackburn for escorting a safe and successful ride.” “We had so many wonderful local sponsors, I wish I could list them all. Some of our key sponsors were, Action Industrial Supply, Benfield Sanitation, Snap-on Tools, Quality Woodworks, T-Toppers, Cheerwine, Acts II Automotive, Goforth Automotive, Ayers Automotive, 24/7Total Fitness, Statesville Transmission, Ingersoll-Rand, Ingles Market, Food Lion Stores, and many more.” “I am so amazed at how much can be accomplished when people come together to work towards a cause such as this. When God’s hand is in it, you know it will be a success. We care about people living in our community!” Cindy said. Back At The Dealership Before the ride many of us did some Christmas shopping in Tilley H-D, taking advantage of the Anniversary Sale. That afternoon more riders stopped by for the specials, refreshments, and door prize drawings. “Thanks for making the 41st Anniversary of Tilley Harley-Davidson a success,” said Don and Robinette Tilley. “We started business in 1972 and thanks to all our loyal customers it has really grown. We are very blessed to have such a great H.O.G. group that works hard to help make our events successful. We want to thank them for everything they do. We are looking forward to 2014 and celebrating each year to come. Thanks again, we hope to see you soon and ride safe.”

33rd Annual Smoky Mountain Toy Run
By: Gary Aiken It’s a community effort and planning takes place throughout the year. In it’s third year, the Saint Nicholas Project, has evolved from helping just a few children at Christmas to assisting close to six thousand kids in 2013 and it all came about when they partnered with the group from the Smoky Mountain Toy Run. In 2009 the Toy Run was approached about partnering with Eblen Charities and their Saint Nicholas Project to provide toys for needy children in Buncombe County. That year was Gene Lummus’ last year riding in the toy run and his passing in February 2010 left a concern in the community that the toy run might falter. Some bikers who had worked through the years planning the toy run stepped up to help. They reached out to the original founders asking them to join in an effort to insure that the tradition continued. The Smoky Mountain Toy Run was incorporated later that year and the group begin working throughout the year to help plan and implement an event that means so much to our community. Together, the Saint Nicholas Project and the Smoky Mountain Toy Run forged an alliance that has helped both to grow. As in years past, Buncombe County school children have assisted in the collection of toys to benefit the toy run and this year Asheville City Schools came on board to help. Together they raised over 1300 toys this year. Eblen Charities also placed toy collection boxes in businesses throughout the county. As of this writing, the number of toys collected is still being added up. Thanks to Valley Truck Service, AKA the Santa Express, toys where collected from the schools on the Thursday and Friday before the toy run and readied for placement at City County Plaza at the end of the toy run. Saturday, December 7th, 2013 wasn’t balmy, but it wasn’t cold either. The forecast throughout the week was for rain, as much as 70% at different points in time, changing over to ice later in the day, none of which materialized as the day wore on. So much for weather forecasting in the mountains! Bikes assembled slowly through the morning as bikers came early to enjoy the camaraderie with fellow bikers, sample some of the great chili supplied by two different fire departments participating in the Firehouse Chili Challenge, or just to purchase
a commemorative pin or t-shirt. As the day wore on it was pretty obvious that the crowd wasn’t going to be anywhere as close as the 2012 Toy Run numbers even though the weather remained quite nice. In the end, the 33rd Annual Smoky Mountain Toy Run had close to 900 attendees, and slightly more than 600 motorcycles. When the dust settled, the bikers had raised over $9,000 to help purchase more toys and added another 3,500 toys to those collected by the school kids. That’s a pretty good day, but still not enough to cover all the needs that the Saint Nicholas Project faces this year. You see, every child that comes to the Saint Nicholas Toy Store at the Westgate Shopping Center in Asheville can shop for three toys and with 6,000 children, that adds up to 18,000 toys. It goes without saying, but still needs to be said; none of this would happen without the generosity of our sponsors, our volunteers which number in the hundreds, but most of all the bikers who contribute their time and money to insure a smile on every kids face on Christmas morning. I hope that when you wake up on Christmas morning the thought of how you helped bring this about leaves a smile on your face. Merry Christmas! If you couldn’t attend the 33rd Annual Smoky Mountain Toy Run and still would like to help you can go online at make a donation to Eblen Charities at www.EblenCharities.org. For more information about the Smoky Mountain Toy Run you can find them at www.SmokyMountainToyRun.com or on Facebook. www.EblenCharities.org.

2013 Down Home Harley-Davidson & Burlington H.O.G. Toy Run By: Scott Wicker Cooler temperatures and early morning rain didn’t stop having a great turn out as Down Home Harley-Davidson and the Burlington H.O.G. Chapter hosted it’s Annual Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Toy Run on Saturday, November, 16th. Over 30 bikes and even more participated in the 2013 event and due to the support from bikers in the Burlington, Graham, and Alamance County area, over $350 and a pick up truck full of toys were collected. All the participants that registered received special commemorative ride pins. The ride started and ended at Down Home Harley-Davidson and made its way down several major thoroughfares in Burlington and Graham. After returning to Down Home Harley-Davidson, we were served Brunswick Stew provided by Tickle My Ribs of Burlington that really hit the spot making this a very enjoyable day and a good time spent with good friends and fellow riders. Also, after the ride at Down Home Harley-Davidson, there was time for the kids and grown ups to meet with Santa Claus and get their pictures taken with him. Greensboro Harley-Davidson Hosts Ladies Garage Party By: WildThing A Friday evening get together with riding buddies and potential new riders is just what ‘Dr. Mark’ Wheelihan, owner of Greensboro Harley-Davidson planned for the ladies of the Triad of North Carolina. The dealership was all decked out for Christmas with wreaths on the front doors and the motorcycles on the showroom floor sported big red bows. The Christmas tree was all decorated and lit up and there was a bunch of toys placed under it, just waiting to be put on the truck for the Brenner Children’s Hospital Toy Run. Upon arrival, one was easily attracted to the gathering of women that just happened to be around the snack table! There was a platter of grapes and cheeses, one with veggies and dip and one with finger sandwiches. Soft drinks and water was iced down in the cooler to quench the thirst of the ladies. Many of the attendees were members of the dealership sponsored riding club, Triad Bad Lasses. This all-women riding group is the first of it’s kind in the world, organized under the auspices of the Harley Owners Group. Contact Greensboro Harley-Davidson or go to www.TriadBadLasses.com to learn more. After a short ‘meet and greet’, Costen Warner, Marketing and Promotions Director, caught everyone’s attention and split us up into groups of four to visit each of the four info stations. My group went first back to the Service Department where Zach was handing out an instruction sheet on how to winterize your bike. It had a basic list of products and information on what to do. Zach then launched into the proper way to pick up a motorcycle that has fallen over. This procedure always captures the attention of everyone. Several of the ladies tried their hand at it with some success, too! The next station was in MotorClothes® with manager, Sharee, pointing out the various attributes of winter riding apparel. She showed us the three-in-one jacket, the high visibility orange or green jacket and pants, along with gloves, helmets, and boots. She is very knowledgeable about H-D riding apparel and can assist you in choosing the right gear for your riding style. Next, we ambled over to the Parts and Accessories Station, where Josh briefed us on the fitment area where you can sit on a bike and try out various seat and handlebar combinations to customize your ride to fit you. They also can help you feel what it would be like to lower your bike. This is a really good idea to help new riders pick out a bike that fits them or for someone interested in buying a new bike and getting just the right feel for the new ride. The last station I visited was manned by Maxx and was about the various ‘families’ of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Maxx led us through the various attributes of the Sportsters,
Dynas, Softails, V-Rod, Touring bikes, and Trikes. He was knowledgeable about matching riding style with the various models and was showing off the special Harley-Davidson Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) bikes. A Garage Party allows the ladies to feel free to ask questions and compare products without any feeling of intimidation that could occur in a visit to a busy dealership. Some dealers hold special nights for the guys, too, so take advantage when you see them announced if you have issues and questions that might be better served in a more exclusive environment. I think an important point here is to be informed and make good choices for yourself when purchasing a motorcycle and the attendant gear. Hope to see you out there. Ride safe.

Arnold Kerley & Irene Kieser hauled Santa (Wesley Moore) on the Conover School Toy Run Story and Photo by Alan Dockery The second Saturday in December wasn’t a great day for toy runs. But cold rain couldn’t keep lots of folks from supporting the 23rd Annual Toy Run to benefit the Conover School. About 40 motorcycles and several cages rolled out of the Wizard Saloon parking lot at noon for a shortened ride. This toy run is different since it supports the Conover School, a special education school in Conover, NC. Instead bringing toys to a central collection point, teachers select specific toys based on each child’s wants, needs, and abilities. Bikers pay the tab through a charity managed by ride organizer Mike Dyson. One thing that makes this toy run so special for the kids, their families and the bikers is what the kids give back to us - a heartwarming Christmas Show. With Arnold Kerley on his beautiful custom trike towing Santa (Wesley Moore) in a sleigh, the bikers pulled up to Lenoir-Rhyne University auditorium as the kids cheered. Families and the bikers gathered in the auditorium as the children of the Conover School put on a Christmas show, singing, and acting out songs of the season. I don’t care how macho you are, you better bring something to wipe the tears from your eyes because it is such a touching show. After the singing, Santa hands out presents to the kids. Most of the riders returned to the start at Mel’s Place and the Wizard Saloon for hot chicken and dumplings. Then they gave away a bunch of cool door prizes. I think everyone there got something. “I’m so proud of the people who, despite the weather, came on the Conover School Toy Run this year,” Mike said. “Hats off to the hardcore riders who braved the wet and cold for these wonderful kids. Thanks to all the people who gave us door prizes and donations.” Check out the Conover School Toy Run on Facebook for comments.

Smokin’ Harley-Davidson Toys For Tots Ride
By: Caroline Smokin’ Harley-Davidson has always been a supporter of the Marine Corps Toys For Tots drive. They begin collecting the toys at the dealership in November, then invite riders to escort them to Wal-Mart in Kernersville. There the Marines along with the folks from 104.1 New Country Q radio station help unload. Even though the weather threatened rain, 20 bikers came for the ride. As if on cue, the sun came out just as the ride began. The mood quickly turned festive as we headed out from Smokin’ and the sight of all those toys seemed to bring out the feelings of excitement that we experience on Christmas morning. I, like many of my friends and fellow riders have never had to experience a Christmas where my kids or grandkids did not get presents, but sadly, it happens all too often in this country. It is my hope that those of us that are blessed, will be able to continue each year to provide a gift or two from bikers who care for children who, through no fault of their own, have very little.

This campaign has officially started and there will be an annual event as well. Watch for the information, you will see it all over the state in a short time! Share it with people everywhere and help Mat make drivers be more aware of motorcycles. When 80% of all motorcycle accidents are avoidable, something has to change! Also, NEVER sign anything after an accident. Hire an attorney. The laws are not in favor of motorcyclists. For info you can contact the Bikers For Bikers Foundation. www.bikersforbikersfoundation.com Many thanks go out. First to the VFW 4542 and The Ladies Auxiliary for hosting and organizing, the District 8 Commander for attending, Roland Rochester from VFW 6018 for cooking, VFW 670 and Connie Holt Photography, Bikers For Bikers Foundation for assisting and hosting the bike run, VCraig Insurance, Autumn Nicholas, Guy Unger and Seal The Deal, Anderson Creek Armory, Pro Tac, Wayelite Entertainment, Ray Rd Auto, Spring Lake PD for escorting the run, Chi-Force Photography, and Cape Fear Blood Mobile.

By: Jeanie Hood-Carter A few months back, Mindy Hartwell from VFW 4542 in Spring Lake, NC contacted me and asked about Bikers For Bikers Foundation (BFBF) helping a young biker who was active military and the victim of a very tragic motorcycle accident. Mindy explained the VFW 4542 would be doing a benefit for Mat Heist, the victim. After speaking to the BFBF President, it was a go and Mindy filled me in on more details. At the time, Mat was still in the hospital. The story, like many motorcycle accidents, was heartbreaking. Mat, a 28-year-old vet, had a minivan turn and cut him off because the driver was distracted while using a cell phone. Mat went air borne on impact and suffered so many injuries I could not possibly list them all. He coded a number of times and spent 10 months in Walter Reed Hospital. Believe me, the pictures tell a very real story. A story we, as bikers, see too often. A short time later I got a little more information from Mat, as we worked on the event and getting the word out. You see, Mat was angry for being hit by someone, which was through no fault of his own and completely avoidable. His anger fuels his desire for more Motorcycle Awareness in NC especially the Fayetteville area. Last year there were 198 motorcyclists fatally injured in NC alone. So, we moved forward with the beginning of the Mat Heist Motorcycle Awareness Campaign. The VFW 4542 had set the date for November 23rd, brought on the other VFWs in District 8, and made arrangements for the Cape Fear Blood Mobile to be there. My only concern was there were a number of other events the same day in the area. It was quite different than the benefits BFBF has done in the past, which was a blessing in many ways. First, the VFW 4542 and Ladies Auxiliary were great. It was teamwork from day one. Second, VFW District 8 had a fabulous cooker, Roland Rochester, from VFW 6018 who did the BBQ complete with pulled pork, slaw, beans, rolls, burgers, and& dogs. The VFW 4542 took care of the raffle items, entertainment which was Guy Unger & Seal the Deal Band and Autumn Nicholas. Guy Unger’s band had everyone singing along to Margaritaville and a few other songs! Autumn has so much going on with her voice she is literally mesmerizing. The raffle was a hoot because they had some very unique items like a custom motorcycle candleholder everyone wanted and custom picture art of individual’s motorcycles and The Biker’s Prayer by photographer Connie Holt, along with a variety of other items. The event was blessed with 2 photographers there, Connie Holt with VFW 670 and Chi-Force came with BFBF. Both were excellent & unique while offering pictures. Also, Noel Forres, who is the new BFBF PR Director, won the 50/50 which she donated most back. No big deal except, it is the 3rd 50/50 she has won in a row! We have politely asked her to buy us a few lottery tickets. The event winded down with evening Karaoke. It was a great event with many great people volunteering & attending. Throughout the day there was several hundred people come and go. Many of the supporters were not bikers. So, Mat’s dream of starting a new motorcycle awareness campaign was highly

Santa Claus Comes To The Strand By: Everette “EZ” Short About mid-morning, Saturday, December 7th, I rolled up to the Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson main store on the south end of Myrtle Beach under sunny skies that boasted a short-sleeved 78º of funshine for the 4th Annual Toys For Tots Run. Grabbing my camera, I ran to capture photographic evidence of the bringer of good tidings, the master of ceremonies if you will, known worldwide as Kris Kringle AKA Santa Claus, who was showing off all the cool HD big toys he had brought to the showroom. Of course, he was accompanied by his favorite red nosed elf Mrs. Claus, too. Back in the service area, packages were bulging out of giant boxes as more than 200 guests signed up to ride and donate loads of shiny new toys for the event. The day, the feeling and the weather were all ringing bright as a bell, when a voice came over the loud speaker saying, “Riders mount up in 10 minutes”. As if on cue, the clouds began to swirl overhead and the temperatures dropped with a righteous quickness by the time Santa reached his bright red candy cane sleigh. As the kickstands went up, dark clouds descended and cold winds started to whip the rain in from eight directions of bone cold wet fury. Undaunted by the changing weather, but right on schedule, Santa pulled out with his police escort to lead about a mile of bikes, trikes, Harleys, Hondas and every other make of sled that you can think of down the highway towards Longbeards Bar & Grill in Carolina Forest. Our happy crowd of bikers was made to feel right at home with a free pig picking, live music from The Austin Mowery Band played strong on the back deck. Despite the cold and, in the end, the event raised over $1,000 in cash donations at the
Toys For Tots campaign. It wasn’t a long ride, but I think most were thankful for a place to get out of the cold blowing rain. The kids will be getting some great toys and I know what most of the bikers will be getting for Christmas – Pneumonia! Even so, the thought that bikers do more for local and national charity events than any government endorsed program gives us all hope for the future. God bless everyone who came out and all the special elves that helped put this wonderful event together. They should all get a big cup of Christmas cheer for a job well done. Stop by Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson or check out www.myrtlebeachharley.com for a list of their upcoming events for 2014. I hope everyone reading this had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. American Children’s Home Benefit Ride By: Caroline I always look forward to this ride that is held every November by the American Legion Riders of Post 55 in Winston-Salem. This year’s event was held on Sunday, November 17. We left Post 55 and rode to the American Children’s Home in Lexington. It was extremely heartwarming to see all the kids standing outside holding welcoming signs. After a small program where the kids sang and recited poems they had written, they each told us what they were most thankful for. At the end of the program, a special framed card was presented to the ALR with signatures from all the children currently at the home. After refreshments, the kids met the bikers and some even let them sit on the motorcycles. This ride does not require that the riders pay anything but does ask that donations of cash, school supplies, toiletries, or bedding to be donated. This year the ALR purchased 30 $25 Wal-Mart gift cards to give to each child. You can check out more upcoming events from the American Legion Riders at their website: alp55nc.com. Anyone is welcome to come out and support the ALR.

26th Annual Horry County ABATE Toy Run By: Everette “EZ” Short When we left the house it was raining in Myrtle Beach and the weatherman wasn’t predicting anything but more rain throughout the day. Then, right on schedule, just before noon on Saturday, December 14th 100+ bikes, bikers and bikerettes were assembled under a warm, bright, and sunny sky at the Murrell’s Square Mall for what is said to be the last toy run to be hosted by ABATE of Horry County. Santa was there to lead the way by the time we rolled in and, just before we took off, everyone gathered to take a knee and hold hands for a prayer. Our local hero, Fallon Emery, was our “prayer point” with high hopes that she can kick cancer in the butt. Fallon couldn’t be there to ride with us, but she is on all our minds, as well as in our hearts and prayers. Her father, Donny (The Dogfather) led the way, right alongside Santa for our short scoot to McDonald’s in Surfside. Once there, Santa went in and took a seat for all the children to tell him exactly what to stuff their stocking with this Christmas. As a side note, I noticed that this year there were quite a few really big kids bending Santa’s ear, too, but I think they were trying to buy themselves off the “Naughty” list. Remember, one girl’s naughty is another man’s nice. Over $500 and a trailer full of toys were gathered over the course of the day, to go to over 500 children, but without the help of all the clubs that showed up and some assistance from McDonalds, the day would’ve been worse. As a side note, I was in a doctor’s office today, when a club member walked in with his daughter and he had his colors flying on the back of his vest. Everyone that looked at him was so nervous that you could see it in their eyes. While he was checking in, I loudly asked some of these fine upstanding citizens if they had donated to the toy runs over the weekend. They all made excuses, if they spoke at all, and just kept staring at him. So I loudly said, “Without men like this one right

here, a lot of children wouldn’t even have Christmas, since he WAS on the TOY RUN with his brothers.” Think about it. Bikers do more charity work and gift giving in this area, let alone all over the country, than any of the organizations these fine upstanding citizens belong to. The next stop, and the final one for many of us since the weather was crowding in with rain and cold, was Donny’s Saloon. There, we sat down for a full feast of BBQ, lasagna, slaw, beans, and a four table spread of some really tasty yummies that came together with the help of Donny’s cute little elves. You know the food is kickin’ when you can hear a pin drop in a whole bar full of bikers that are shoveling it without speaking a word. In the end, I gotta give a great THANK YOU to ABATE for all they have done over the past 26 years of toy runs and all the wonderful events they have hosted throughout the years. Everyone who showed up deserves a big “Hell, Yeah!” GOOD JOB and Donny’s Elves deserved better tips, I am sure, for their really primo feasting festivities. Please join us in praying for Fallon and look for her on Facebook as FIERCE FALLON needs all our help to get through this. God Bless you all and I hope you enjoy the greatest gifts of all this year.

His Laboring Few Ministries in High Point in 1990.
By: Rick Gammons How can so Few do so much? In the case of His Laboring Few Biker Ministries, take into account that Jesus Christ is “the Boss”. Also remember, Christ is the “reason for the season”. In this age of commercialism, it’s good to see a group still working on basic levels. Such was the case Saturday, December 7th. HLF arranged another ride for toys to give to needy children, supported by their ministry. Starting at Preacher Steve’s Leather on Hwy 29-70, just west of Thomasville, kickstands were up at 1pm. Thirty bikes left for a short ride, ending at the His Laboring Few headquarters in Thomasville. Twenty-five bikes rolled in just after I arrived at HLF. Five of the group decided to take the “scenic route”, arriving about five minutes behind the others. With bikes and cars parked, everyone went inside for chili, sandwiches, and drinks prepared by some of the folks that attend there. Toys were placed around the tree as bikers entered the meeting room. After a prayer over the food, the room erupted with talk and laughter, with all enjoying a communal experience. His Laboring Few work hard every day to take care of those less fortunate than you and, not just at Christmas. Ministries include hot daily meals for the needy at The Father’s Table in Thomasville, daily meals for the homeless in south High Point, a free, 90-day program for men who want to get free from drugs and alcohol, a Saturday evening Kids For Christ program for children, a biker ministry, God’s Storehouse, which provides clothing, shoes, furniture, and household items to the needy, and twice-a-week church services. If you need a place for encouragement or spiritual uplifting, visit His Laboring Few Biker Ministries, 812 Martin Luther King Drive, Thomasville, NC. It could be exactly what you need. Donations may be sent to His Laboring Few Ministries, 812 Martin Luther King Drive, Thomasville, NC 27239. For more information, call 475-2455 or visit www.HisLaboringFew.com. Merry Christmas!

27th Annual Randolph County CBA Toy Run
By: Rose and Lloyd December 1, 2013. The Randolph County CBA sponsored their annual toy run to Mills Home in Thomasville, NC. I could take a lot of time and write the same thing you have probably read for the past 26 years. How the CBA started this event and Cox’s Harley-Davidson joined in a couple of years later. The ride always begins at Dillard’s parking lot on Hwy 64 and the route is 64 to 109 and then into Thomasville, to Mills Home. The Randolph County and Thomasville police give an excellent escort every year, but you have heard all this. I want to tell you my version as a biker on this ride. Lloyd and I go on several toy rides a year, some years it has been as many as 15. All the rides are for a good cause - to give less fortunate children a Christmas. Bikers come from everywhere for these rides. The weather doesn’t stop them, this time of the year, it is too important. If one biker does not make it, one child may not get a toy. Meeting in the Dillard’s parking lot on Sunday afternoon as I walked around taking pictures and having conversation with many of the bikers, I realized this year more so than any year I can remember the people’s hearts were swelling with love. I heard of people laid off, people out of work for over a year, people struggling themselves, but each one had a smile on their face and you could feel the warmth in their hearts for the children they were helping that day. It is a yearly event, but it still always amazes me. The riders line up and start their ride down Hwy 64. There are people everywhere. They are smiling and waving, giving thumbs up, videoing, and showing their support and appreciation to each biker. You always read and hear the little stories on FB or other places where these big biker dudes, hear a parent tell their child to stay away from them, or the looks they get for the long hair and beards and leather. So many people think every biker is a gang member, rough, out tearing thinks up, going to bars and fighting and probably some people hope they don’t look their way, since he might hurt them. I wish the common everyday person could see this magazine. In every issue, all year long, there are charity events going on to help a brother biker or a family member. There is money raised for cancer, and so many other problems in the world. The support for our military is overwhelming. The bikers give more in charity than any other group of people that I know of, not only money, but their love and time. They are family. So, Sunday, as I rode through Asheboro and down NC 109 and through Thomasville, it made my heart feel so good to see miles of bikers being cheered on and admired for helping these
Photo by dpapabear children. I was so proud to see parents holding their children up waving, and older people, even in wheel chairs, yelling and some singing as we slowly escorted a transfer truck full of toys to the children that were waiting. As we pulled in to the Mills Home, the children were holding up signs, hugging bikers, and taking pictures with them. Then they put on a beautiful program and opened a few presents. In addition to the truck load of toys, over $9400 was given to the Children’s Home that day. So, as a biker, for the rides you have done, hold your head high and feel the warm feeling in your heart Christmas morning knowing that you gave of your time and money to someone that, with out you, each and everyone of you, may not have had a Christmas. What a full and beautiful day. “Thanks” is just not enough to say for what the biker community does. If you didn’t make this ride, it is held every year on the first Sunday in December. I hope each of you are blessed at Christmas and all year through.

Richmond County Christmas Parade Ride
By: Kathy Long Ol Skool Tribe invited KC’s Biker Barn (Chip and myself) to join them and ride in the Richmond County Christmas Parade Ride in Hamlet, NC on Thursday, December 12th. This was also a toy drive for the Marine Corps Toys For Tots campaign. All toys collected will go to under privileged children in Richmond County. Twenty or so bikes led the parade and the crowd seemed to really enjoy the sounds of the bikes as they were rolling through. It was a cold ride but well worth it to know that several children will have a nice Christmas. This is what its all about - communities pulling together to help others in need! All the motorcycles lined up at the corner of Bridges and Main Streets in Hamlet and led the parade. The toys were strapped to bikes and were placed in Marine Corps Toys For Tots Foundation bin after the parade.”

36th Annual Lowcountry ABATE Toy Run
By: Old Spook The 36th Annual Lowcountry ABATE Toy Run was held on December 1, 2013. The ride started at Sapphire’s in the Creekside Shopping Center of Goose Creek. It was appropriate that this location was chosen in that over 300 bikes showed up for the run. The riders included most of the motorcycle clubs from the low country. I say that since I don’t want to disrespect any club by inadvertently not mentioning them. SC ABATE is an organization that fights for the rights of bikers. Any attempt to curtail rider’s rights is met with an appropriate rebuttal by the ABATE lobbyists. The helmet law has been the biggest bone of contention. Bikers want the freedom to choose whether or not to wear a helmet; not be dictated to. When this run first started 36 years ago, the Hells Angels wanted to help with the collection of toys. The powers that be didn’t want to be associated with motorcycle clubs. The Salvation Army stepped up and supported the Hells Angels’ offer and instituted this run 36 years ago. Lowcountry ABATE has since headed up the run, and quite successfully. It is one of the largest of its kind in South Carolina. The police escorted the group to The Berkeley Shrine Club at Thornley Forest in Moncks Corner where all the toys were collected, vendors were vending, and the band “Popcorn Chicken” was kicking. A good time was had by all and the kids were assured of their Christmas presents. Merry Christmas!

making it and being there. I never heard of buffalo chili, but it was definitely a favorite. I can’t imagine never having gone to the Smoke Out for what reason other then not owning a motorcycle. If you are Interested in seeing the movie Tiny has some copies at the bar. You need to check it out. You will see what you have been missing. I, myself, have been going to the Smoke Out back when it originated in Salisbury NC. For me, it is getting to see the people that I have met over the years that one time a year. Like I said, try and grab a copy while you can. He only has a few and it was really great for crazy shots to show a motorcycle movie with some great drinks and chili. Not every one wants to watch sports in a bar on a Sunday! You can also get a copy of Road To The Smoke Out from Choppertown Store on the web at http://goo.gl/KorixG. It’s cool!

By: Mark “ Stretch” Carlyle Iron Station Thunder is truly a one of a kind shop. Bryan “Rocket” McClure has really taken things to the next level in Lincolnton, NC. Iron Station Thunder is an independent shop that strives, not only to support the local riding community but, takes the best care of its customers. I can personally vouch for their customer service. I recently bought an Ultra Classic from him. It did develop a problem and even though it was a used bike, Bryan not only picked up my bike, he repaired it at no cost to me. In addition to that, he gave me another Ultra to ride that week while he fixed mine. I have never seen a shop do this. At Iron Station Thunder they are dealers for all the top power sports vendors and keep a large selection of custom and service parts on hand. From bobbers to baggers, they have the parts and staff with the knowledge to take care of you and your bike. They also have a full fab shop so they can build or customize anything for your ride. The current project they are working on is for Florida Full Throttle Magazine’s Motorcycle Expo and Bike Builders Invitational (http://goo.gl/w3tgDL) in January. Most Custom baggers are plastic or fiberglass. Not this one. This one is completely hand tooled steel from the faring to the bags. Other features include an electric kickstand, air ride front and rear suspension, 26” front and 18” rear wheels, Kendal Johnson 120 ci engine, and a 7 speed transmission. Bryan and his staff are raising the bar and bringing back the art of Old School with Style! Keep your eyes open as we will have pictures of the final product soon!

By: Old Spook On December 14th, 2013, the unclaimed remains of 10 servicemen were laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC. This was the first service of its kind at Beaufort. Steve Goulet, the state coordinator of The Missing In America Project stated, “It takes a joint effort of private, state, and federal organizations to locate, identify, and inter the unclaimed cremated remains of these American veterans”. The organization’s mission is “to provide honor, respect, and dignity to those who have served this country by securing a final resting place for these forgotten heroes”. In its short 7-year history, the Missing In America Project (www.miap.us) has visited more than 1,409 funeral homes, located 7,109 unclaimed cremated remains of which 1,933 were veterans and deceased dependents. 1792 of those were interred. This venture is both admirable and incredibly time consuming. Nearly all military organizations attended this event. I saw a host of American Legion Riders, the new 8760 VFW Motorcycle Riders Group, U.S. Military Vets, and many others. Bill Havelan, Commander of VFW Post 8760, hosted the ride, which included over 100 bikes. The post offered a quick breakfast for the riders. The hearse arrived and the beautifully made, donated boxes, which carried the remains, were transferred to the hearse, which led the escorted ride to the cemetery. At the cemetery, pairs of active duty service men in uniform collected the remains and ceremonial flags were placed on a display table for all to see. The names, rank, and branch of service were announced for each of the soldiers. The flags were then presented by the honor guard soldiers to state and federal officials, who stood in as family members to these fallen heroes. I overheard a conversation that bears repeating, “These men are our family and they deserve to be honored and respected.” The honor guard then transferred the boxes to the gravesites. A firing detail set off a salvo and the remains were interred followed by a final salute.

Benefit For Anslee LeBlanc
By: dpapabear Sunday, Dec 1st, R Los Pub & Grub in Thomasville, was host for a very pretty, sweet little girl, Anslee LeBlanc, who is battling Leukemia, with a Brunswick stew meal, 50/50 drawing, and door prizes. The event started at 1 pm with a lot of riders coming in later on from the Mills Home Toy Run to show their support for this little angel and her family. We have had a lot of up and down weather for riding this year, but Sunday turned out to be a perfect day for riding and helping a little girl in need. Thanks to all who took part in supporting and sponsoring this event, the parking lot was full most of the evening. The winner of the 50/50 donated their part back to Miss Anslee, as well, and we thank you! Even some of the door prizes where won and then auctioned

off with proceeds going back to the family. One supporter even gave Miss Anslee a $100 bill, and boy did that make little Anslee’s face light up! Thanks everyone! Anslee walked around most of the day with a big smile on her face, just happy as she could be. Sometimes that is hard to do when you have been through so much. We sure wish Anslee and her family all the best! Thanks again everyone! Check out the pics online at FullThrottleMagazine.com. All Ride Safe and enjoy the journey!

Spokes & Jokes
The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! For my special friends…with the holidays upon us I would like to share a personal experience with you all about drinking and driving after a “social session” with friends. Well, this past Saturday, I was out on a post - Christmas evening with long-lost friends. I had a few cocktails, followed by a handful of glasses of vintage red wine. Despite the jolliness, I still had the sense to know that I was over the limit. That’s when I decided to do what I have never done before: I took a cab home. Sure enough, there was a police roadblock on the freeway looking for drunk drivers but, since it was a cab, they waved it past. I arrived home safely without incident. This was both a great relief and surprise because I had never driven a cab before. I don’t even know where I got it from and, now that it is in my garage, I don’t know what to do with it!
The server replies, “Yes, I am.” The man then responds by saying, “I just wanted to let you know that I redistributed your tip to the homeless man outside. Have a nice day.” God said, “Adam, I want you to do something for me.” Adam said, “Gladly, Lord. What do you want me to do?” God said, “Go down into that valley.” Adam asked, “What’s a valley?” God explained it to him. Then God said, “Cross the river.” Adam asked, “What’s a river?” God explained that to him, and then said, “Go over to the hill.” Adam asked, “What is a hill?” So, God explained to Adam what a hill was. He told Adam, “On the other side of the hill you will find a cave.” Adam asked, “What’s a cave?” After God explained, He said, “In the cave you will find a woman.” Adam asked, “What’s a woman?’ So God explained that to him, too. Then, God said, “I want you to reproduce.” Adam asked, “How do I do that?” God first said (under his breath), “Geez...” And then, just like everything else, God explained that to Adam, as well. So, Adam goes down into the valley, across the river, and over the hill, into the cave, and finds the woman. Then, in about five minutes, he was back. God, His patience wearing thin, said angrily, “What is it now?” And Adam said, “What’s a headache?”
able for you. So what do you do? Our plan gives anyone 65 years, or older, a gun (G) and 4 bullets. You are allowed to shoot four politicians. Of course, this means you’ll be sent to prison, where you will receive three meals a day, a roof over your head all the health care you need. Need new teeth? No problem. Need glasses? That’s great. Need a new hip, knees, kidney, lungs, or heart? They’re all covered. As an added bonus, your kids can come and visit you at least as often as they do now. And who will be paying for all of this? The same government that just told you they can’t afford for you to go into a home. And, you can get rid of 4 useless politicians while you’re at it. Plus, because you are a prisoner, you don’t have to pay any income taxes anymore. Is this a great country or what?

A Kiwi and an Australian go to a pastry shop. The Kiwi whisks three cookies into his pocket with lightning speed. The baker doesn’t notice. The Kiwi says to the Australian: “You see how clever we are? You’ll never beat that!” The Australian says to the Kiwi: “Watch this, an Australian is always more clever than a Kiwi.” He says to the baker, “give me a cookie, I can show you a magic trick!” The baker gives him the cookie that the Australian promptly eats. Then he says to the baker: “Give me another cookie for my magic trick.” The baker is getting suspicious but he gives it to him. He eats this one, too. Then he says again: “Give me one more cookie.” The baker is getting angry now but gives him one anyway. The Australian eats this one, too. Now the baker is really mad, and he yells: “And where is your famous magic trick?” The Australian says: “Look in the Kiwi’s pocket!” At a wedding reception I recently attended someone said, “All the married men please stand next to that person who has made your life so worth living.” The bartender was nearly crushed to death! A man goes into a restaurant and his server is wearing an “Obama 2012” button on her apron. After he is done eating, he pays the tab, goes outside and finds a homeless man and gives him some money. The man then walks back into the restaurant and says to his server, “I see you’re supporting Obama.”
If you can get arrested for hunting and fishing without a license, but not for entering this country illegally, you might live in a country run by idiots. Murphy asked Paddy how he got his black eye. “You’d never believe it,” said Paddy, “But I got it in church.” He said he had been sitting behind a fat lady and when they all stood for a hymn he noticed her dress was creased into the cheeks of her bum. “All I did was lean forward and pull it out and she turned round and hit me,” said Paddy. It was a week later and Shamus was surprised to see Paddy had another black eye. “I got it in church,” he began to explain. He said he found himself behind the same fat woman and when they stood for the hymn her dress was once again creased into the cheeks of her bum. “My little nephew reached forward and pulled it out. But I know she didn’t like that, so I leaned over and tucked it back!” You’re a sick senior citizen and the government says there is no nursing home care avail-
One day, a man walks into a bar with an ostrich and a cat. The man orders a beer, and so does the ostrich. The cat orders half a pint, and refuses to tip the bartender. The bartender tells them their bill is $10.78. The man reaches into his pocket and gets exactly $10.78. The next day, the man, the ostrich and the cat go back to the bar. They order the same thing as the day before, and again the cat is really rude to the bartender and won’t tip him. The bartender tells them that their bill is $10.78. The man reaches into his pocket and gets exactly $10.78. The next day, the man, the ostrich and the cat go back into the bar. This time the man and the ostrich order a double scotch. The cat orders a scotch and is rude to the bartender. The bartender smiles to himself, knowing that there is no chance the man will get the exact amount of money, and he’s getting pissed at the cheapskate cat. He tells the man that their bill is $15.63. The man reaches into his pocket and gets the exact change! The bartender is astonished. He asks the man how he always gets the right amount of change. The man tells him, “Well, one day I came across a lamp. I rubbed it and a genie came out. He told me I could have any three wishes I wanted. My first wish was that I could reach into my pocket and get the exact change of anything I was buying.” “Very smart,” said the bartender. “My second wish was to have a high tolerance for alcohol.” “Good choice!” the bartender exclaimed. “What was your third wish?” “Well, that wasn’t too bright on my part. I wished for a chick with long legs and a tight pussy.”

By Judy Bortz Carolina Coast Harley-Davidson® hosted its 21st Annual Toys For Tots Ride at 12 noon, on Sunday, December 1st. Carolina Coast H-D® has been partnering with the Marine Corps Reserve since 1992, rallying bikers to bring toys for less fortunate children. Bikers can join in on the ride by bringing a new unwrapped toy the day of the event. Cash and toy contributions are collected at the dealership until mid-month, and all contributions are put to great use by the Marine Corps to give children a memorable Christmas, they otherwise wouldn’t have. This year, 517 bikes participated in the ride. This is the main event that CCHD plans every year, and although the turnout was just under half of what we saw last year, the enthusiasm and Christmas spirit was enormous. The weather was a little bit chillier than last year, just barely reaching 60º, and the threat of rain probably kept some people at home, but the rain held off, and the ride went ON! CCHD and its HOG Chapter did a great job organizing this huge event. The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department, who ALWAYS do an outstanding job keeping traffic out of our way, escorted the run around Wilmington. The riders rode past all the major malls in town, and I always look forward to waving to the frustrated cages trying to hurry in their Christmas errands. It is good to take a minute to breath during this rushed time of year, and thanks to the Sherriff’s units that did the escort, those shoppers got that chance! Riders enjoyed a BBQ lunch after the ride. There were a lot of mouths to feed, but not one rider that wanted to eat left hungry! All kinds of motorcycles are encouraged to participate. Collections are estimated to be about 2000 toys and $500 in cash donations by the end of collections for the ride. The Marine Corps will pick up all donations on 12/13. I know that all the kids that the USMC Toys for Tots distribute to will be happy children this Christmas, and that, brothers and sisters, is what it is all about! Wishing all of our faithful readers a very Merry Christmas, and the happiest of HARLEYdays! Be safe out there!

It’s A New Year! Here we are, it’s a new year! We finished last year, its gone, behind us, and all we have is the memory of it. 2013 is the past. Some will say that was a really good year and others may say that was the worst year ever, either way, its behind us. What ever we did in 2013 is history we can’t go back and change it. For example, if we did wrong to someone we can ask forgiveness but we cant change the past and erase the damage that’s done is done. So many people live with regret, the whole should of, could of, would of thing. How many people wish they could go back and redo things in their life that may have caused themselves or others pain, hurt, and shame? How about broken dreams, broken homes, and broken hearts? Most of us have a past but it’s just that - the past. It’s now January 2014, a new year. Ephesians 4:31-32 ESV - Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. No, you can’t change the past, but you can have a fresh start! It’s the new year. Take this time to let go of the past. Stop dwelling on things you can’t change and start working on things you can. As the scripture says, let go of all that anger and bitterness. It’s like a cancer. It will eat you up. Instead start being kind to people, forgive people, don’t be so hard and
cold, but be compassionate and tenderhearted. Are you ready for a new year and a new life? Ephesians 4:22-24 ESV - Put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness. This can be your year of a new life, pray the bikers prayer ask Jesus into your heart. Forgive the past and start living for the new life filled with love and peace and forgiveness. Make 2014 your best year ever!! Love and Prayers, Robin St.John

Molly’s Fund; Clays For A Cause By: Glen ‘Smiley’ Palmer FFFH Clays For A Cause, an idea that started with the friends we knew we had, but we had no idea of the lengths they would go to make it happen. Long before the event began the Fisheads, their families, friends, and local businesses started planning for a day of fun. The Gathering was on November 16th, a cool sunny day that ended with a bang a bonfire and lots of good food. Ok, let’s not get ahead of our selves. Molly Jackson is my one-yearold grandchild who was diagnosed with Hurlers Syndrome (MPS1). She has been under going treatment at Duke University Hospital. Molly is a native of Tampa Florida. Her father, Brian Jackson, and sister, Whitney, were able to attend this event while Molly and her mother, Heather Lash Jackson, were at Duke Hospital, where she was basically quarantined because of her chemo treatments to receive a cord blood transplant. This will provided her with a better quality of life even though there is currently no real cure. Getting back to the events of that day. The skeet shooting at Cletus’ Redneck Arena in Stanley, NC helped to contribute to the funds raised, and there where some out standing marksmen out there. Some hit 23 out of 25 clays. For a $25 donation they received a full box of shotgun shells. There was no charge for the clays. Some chose to bring their own ammo, which was OK, too, but they paid $1 per clay. There were also baked goods, such as chocolate pounds cakes, pecan pies, assorted cookies, and rice crispy treats that were for sale and some were raffled off. The raffle prize of the day was a Mossberg Model 500 shotgun. Roger Keever took it home! Feeding the masses was also a big part of the day with smoked Boston butts, deep fried turkeys, and a generous portion of sides like mac-n-cheese, baked beans, and a list that goes on and on. We also had a bouncy house for the kids to play in and, yes, some of the adults dove in, too. After the skeet were shot and shotguns put away. The bonfire was lit. Not just any bonfire, this one was seriously big - the size of a tractor-trailer. That brought us to one of the high lights of the day. The crash up derby that also helped raise money by auctioning off the opportunity to either drive or be a passenger in one of the three cars that were totaled in Cletus’s Redneck Arena. The day was a great success with all participants having fun, getting full, and having a few memories they will never forget. At the end of it all we raised more than $5400 for the support of Molly’s Fund. We also opened the eyes of the public to a devastating disorder that affects the children and parents of our world. For more information and an opportunity to support go to (lashjackson.blogspott.com). Thanks for reading from the Fisheads and Molly’s P-paw, Smiley.
