an you believe what a dastardly deed the Boston Marathon Bombers committed against innocent bystanders on Patriot’s Day? It is hard to believe that there are those among us who have such a vile mindset, but apparently, that is reality. I think it is nearly impossible for most of us to be able to understand how someone’s mind could work like that. I also think that our values, freedom, and liberty make that kind of activity so foreign to us that it is nearly impossible to conceive a thought pattern that can defend ourselves in our normal everyday activities. I heard one news caster say, “Liberty has inherent risks” which makes it impossible to prevent these kinds of things from happening. I agree to a certain point. I think that it is nearly impossible for GOVERNMENT to prevent these acts of terrorism, but I also think that we can reduce the risk by mentally and physically preparing to protect our own. Our families, our friends, our rights from every enemy, foreign or domestic. In the 40’s it was rumored that Japan did not invade the US Mainland for fear that there was a “rifle behind every blade of grass”. Although it has been attributed to Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy, there is no evidence that Yamamoto ever said this. However, it should be noted that Yamamoto spent time in the US, attending Harvard for two or more years. He spoke fluent English and had a keen understanding of our industrial capabilities. He did not want war with the US for this, and possibly other reasons. I was shocked to see all the resources that law enforcement had at their disposal, and how quickly they mobilized it. But I hope all that news footage makes other would-be terrorists adopt a Yamamoto state of mind. The other side of the “GOVERNMENT cannot prevent all acts of terrorism” coin is the 2nd Amendment, which states, “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”. Now, I am not for the lawlessness of the Old West or the OK Corral, but I cannot help but think that society as a whole would be more respectful if everyone were armed for their own defense and I can only imagine that everyone that had a firearm in Watertown, Massachusetts was holding it in their lap until the perps were killed or apprehended. For this reason and others, we cannot allow our government to make us targets of terrorists by disarming us. When the right of citizens to keep and bear arms disappears, only the government and criminals will have firearms. I do not see that working in my favor. If you agree, contact your Senators and Representatives and let them know that you are adamant about hanging on to your guns (and religion). If you need help, contact me. I will help you. While you are at it your state Representatives are waiting to hear from you about HB 109. Tell them it should be up to you if you want to wear shorts, flip flops, or a helmet when you ride your motorcycle. It is all about liberty. Now ride somewhere, while you still can. And don’t forget Memorial Day. Thank our veterans for their service.

The Amazing 23rd Annual Bunny Hunt

By: Everette “EZ” Short I don’t know how many rides you get out for, but I manage to scoot through a lot of them, weather and work permitting. No matter how many I go to, Dick Martin’s Annual Bunny Hunt is my hands down favorite for the last three years. On March 31st, I had the honor to attend this year’s festival of controlled chaos. First of all, it’s on Easter Sunday, which came early this year and arrived just when we needed a big smiling good time on the road after a lingering bit of winter chill on the beach. Second, it is probably the most highly attended ride on the SC beach scene, with no agenda, no maps, it is pointless and no one keeps score of anything. The only rule is FOLLOW THE RABBIT! As all good things should, it was started with a great FREE breakfast of loosely scrambled eggs, crispy bacon strips, and fluffy biscuits loaded with gravy. My heart stopping food pile was accompanied by a singularly astounding cup of freshly brewed coffee with a carrot sticking out of it. Special thanks go out to Danny Lee’s Place in Socastee, right next to Dick Martin’s Custom Cycles on Hwy #707, for all the delicious goodness given freely. By the time I came back outside, there was a loud, but wellbehaved crowd pouring in. Like a ballooning family reunion, everyone was mulling about, with hugs and handshakes, in anticipation of THE WABBITS arrival! Somewhere around noon-thirtyish, the big eared, white rascal (a.k.a. Dicky Martin) popped up in the crowd, along with his three well woo hooed Harley Bunnies, chewing a big cigar and toting a bullhorn, while swigging on a bottle of secret sauced, go-go carrot juice. We only had time for few fast photos before the only instructions of the day were shouted over a scratchy megaphone, “Kickstands up! FOLLOW THE RABBIT!” And away he went, cigar burning brightly, on his 883 Sportster, with Easter goodies sticking out of a wicker basket bungeed to the back, followed by about a mile of roaring motorcycles trying to catch up. The ride went right through the heart of Myrtle Beach down the #501 to land at the wondrous world of Barnacle Bills on 8th Avenue. It took about half an hour for more bikes than have been seen in our fair city since 2007 to pull into the grassy park under the new Zip-Line Adventure. Soon enough, the hooliganisms were getting out of hand and all lanes were cleared for the bunny’s escape to City Line Saloon on the south end of town, across from Myrtle Beach Harley Davidson. Every single parking space for about a quarter mile was taken, and new parking spaces were invented in all directions, as the number of participants blossomed on the edge of town. After more carrot juice, the cigar munching, swagger of our White Rabbit stopped to share a soft moment and a few heartfelt hugs with his granddaughter (who knew?) before he was off to The Original SBB in Murrell’s Inlet where free BBQ chickens were served up by the bucket load!

Free food, free music from a live band, dancing girls and Easter eggs, after a good little ride down the beach is more than enough to tell you that it was a fantastic Easter Sunday. The rabbit, somehow, got away in a flurry of fur, leaving the smell of a cheap cigar and burning rubber behind him as he vanished into the Spring of 2013. If this is a harbinger of the season to come, then we have a lot to look forward to. Come out to the beach for Spring Bike Week this May and meet the living legend that is Dick Martin while you’re here. He doesn’t bite. Well, not very hard anyway.

Durham HOG 27th Annual Bike Show & Chili Cook Off By: Kathy Johnson As always Durham Hog Chapter and Shelton’s Harley-Davidson had a sunny day on March 9th for their 27th Annual Bike Show And Chilli Cook Off. Bike’s filled up the parking lot and lined the service road out front for as far as you could see. Shelton’s had a great variety of “need to have” items for sale that day. It’s kind of like going in to a bar - you’re going to get a beer. You go in to Shelton’s - your going to buy something before you walk out the store. The band playing outside this year, Mr. Cat, was great. I really enjoyed them. I saw a lot of break out dancers up front. I tried my luck rolling the dice, but never could get the last letter to spell H A R L E Y. For the people that did, I hope you got it on the first roll. They had good prizes. As they do every year, Burlington HOG smoked the competition in the chili cook off. Durham HOG was runner up. Fifty-two bikes entered the show, competing for trophies and bragging rights won by popular vote. Then the trophies went out to the 2013 winners. Congratulations to the winners! Thanks to everybody who participated in the show. They announced winner of the 2013 XL 883 super low, but, unfortunately, the winner was not in the crowd. It is always nice seeing someone flip out when they win a Harley for five dollars. A local Durham HOG supporter won the raffle and chose the cash prize. The raffle and the event generated close to $10,000 this year. That money will be distributed to local charities supporting our neighbors in need. It’s not just the bikes and the fundraising that makes the Durham HOG Annual Bike Show And Chili Cook Off special. It’s the connections, the friendships, and the fellowship of the biker community. By: WildThing The Charlotte CBA Swap Meet held at the Metrolina Expo Fairgrounds is a true harbinger of spring. Saturday and Sunday March 23rd and 24th were the days to head out to Charlotte and see what the vendors had to offer. The CBA Members have been doing this event for so long - 39 years - that they have it down to a science. There are folks to show you where to park, direct vendors to their sites, manage the entertainment, sell event t-shirts, run the bike show and tattoo contest, and make it look like they are having fun, which of course, they are! They also always host a CBA booth where the newbie or the uninformed can find out what Concerned Bikers Association is all about and what they do and, hopefully, become a member. There is always an amazing display of motorcycle parts, new and used, for all brands among the vendor booths, as well as all kinds of riding apparel and accessories. If you come hungry, there is the food court where the aromas tantalize and for the thirsty there is a variety of cold beverages even of the adult variety to satisfy you. When you finish shopping and gawking at motorcycles and parts of every description, you should head on inside for a cold beer and enjoy the music. This spring Alien Radio was on the stage and kept everyone toe-tappin’. In the mid-afternoon, all youngsters are escorted out of this building and the wet t-shirt contest takes the stage. The adventurous ladies are introduced and they dance around, showing off their attributes. Winner is by crowd acclaim, so one would say this is an interactive contest! There is a bike show in the next building, and I wasn’t in attendance when the winners were announced, but the CBA had a nice collection of trophies to hand out.

The best part of the Charlotte CBA Swap Meet is that it is a great opportunity to visit with folks you haven’t seen in a while and it is all about motorcycles. The CBA charges reasonable rates, with discounts for military and on Sunday there is a two for one special. So if you missed the spring event, watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar, ‘cause there is the Fall Charlotte CBA Swap Meet and Bike Show coming up in November. Locked & Loaded Bar & Grill 7th Annual Spring Bike Show By: Anthony Tumolo If you heard the sound of rolling thunder on Sunday April 14th in Garner, it wasn’t the result of inclement weather. The rumble echoing through the streets of Garner was the result of the 7th Annual Spring Bike show on April 14th at Locked & Loaded Bar & Grill located at 1125 Hwy 70, Garner, NC. The event kicked off at noon and was officially billed to run to 6 pm. It was a perfect day for riding in Wake County and the motorcycle enthusiasts were out in force at this year’s event. The event was packed with hundreds of bikes, an energetic crowd, and live entertainment all afternoon with performances by Shattered, Boneyard, and Mostley Crue. If you haven’t seen a show by these bands, make it a point to see them play in the future. Unofficial review, horns held high for all three bands. In addition to the show and live entertainment, there was a solid turnout of vendors for the event including Ray Price HD of Raleigh, SAFCAB, Freedom Biker Church, Biker Style Event Vendors, Teresa’s Bling, Team Powersports, Big Bike Lights, Pure Romance by Tracy, Rolling Thunder Inc NC Chapter 4, the Out Back Brewing Supply Co. and Jimmy G Custom Paint. Several other vendors were present at the event as well. And of course, with the event being held at Locked & Loaded Bar & Grill, a wide variety of great food and beverages were available throughout the day. Bike show categories were: Best Paint, Best Chrome, Best Wheels, Best Accessories, Most Radical, and Best In Show. Winners included: Kenny Williams, Jay Jacoboms, Jason Beavers, Bruce Beavers, David Price, and Al Jacob. I’m not sure who won what classes (that list disappeared), but Kenny Williams won Best In Show with his 2013 Custom Voodoo Road King. Considering the crowd was large enough to pack the entire

Not at this event. The entire day was virtually drama free and the atmosphere was appropriate for all ages. The crowd was there to have a good time and a good time is what was on tap for the day. Just Hawgs 2013 Spring Ride By: Caroline Even though, technically, April 7 was nearly 3 weeks into spring, in reality spring was slow getting here. Considering that we had snow and sleet just this past week, 70º weather arrived just in time to kick off the Just Hawgs 2013 Spring Ride. As most folks around here know this ride is the official greeting to good riding. James Deal and Jim Robinson go all out to show their friends a great time on their day off! They take us all on the best, most scenic, back roads for a few hours, giving the rider a great sense of all the best things that this great time of year holds. The Carolina Field Of Honor

By: Mark Infield In 2009, through a joint resolution between Forsyth and Guilford Counties in North Carolina, the location for a memorial park, called the Carolina Field of Honor, was established in the Triad Park. The counties have bought a total of 426 acres as a regional centerpiece park which has nature based park facilities nestled in the woods and meadows. The park, located at 9652 East Mountain Street in Kernersville, NC, will be an ongoing project for many years, developing in phases with facilities and opportunities to meet the needs of all levels of recreation and leisure - a park for everyone! The Memorial The Memorial will honor all that serve in the Armed Forces of the United States of America and will be like no other memorial of its kind in the nation, according to Board of Directors President, Rob O’Hanlon. The centerpiece will be a 64-foot-tall granite obelisk arising from a 40-foot lighted fountain that includes eight spillways. It will be encircled by walkways featuring flags and 10-foot obelisks as a tribute to each branch of the service as well as POW/MIA. 13 American flags that were used in different periods of the nation’s history will highlight the entrance. A Remembrance Brick Walkway from there to the fountain will consist of granite pavers in honor of a veteran loved one. Efforts are underway to raise the funds for construction The WAR Memorial Foundation is a non-profit organization with the sole mission of raising funds to preserve the history

Twin Peaks Bike Night

By: Grant There is a new bike night in the Concord/ Charlotte area and it’s not like the others. This one involves great food, good music and cold beer with scenic views. Well, maybe it is a little like the others, but I think it’s a lot more fun. Introducing Twin Peaks Restaurant and Bar Located at 8601 Concord Mills Boulevard. It’s on the far end of the Mall next to the theaters. They have a huge parking lot just for bikes on each Wednesday night through the summer and specials on food and drink, plus the Twin Peaks Girls. That is a treat in and of its own. On the last Wednesday of each month they will have a live band. I have begun to make this my Sunday afternoon location for refreshments after the ride and bike nights are just a plus each week. You must add this to your “must see” locations in and around the Charlotte area. The girls are just great and will greet you with a smile. Draft beer is served at temperature of 29º, sure to cool those hot summer days down a little. Twin Peaks has a large patio where you can sit by a fire in winter or enjoy watching the traffic go by as you cool yourself down in the summer. They have a couple different bars inside and, as I have said, the views are just

Spring Fling At Harley-Davidson Of Greensboro

By: WildThing Saturday, April 13th dawned with a clear sky and light breezes – a clear indication the spring was indeed on its way in Piedmont, North Carolina. This was propitious for the planned Spring Fling at Greensboro Harley-Davidson and their Motorcycle Park. Mark and I arrived early to set up our booth to pass out The Carolina Full Throttle Magazines and were amazed at the level of activity! The Triad Bad Lasses were busy sorting out their menu items and condiments and had begun to grill the dogs and burgers in anticipation of a crowd of hungry bikers. Robin and Renee and their crew were setting up outside beer tubs and icing down the brew, certain that Chunk’s was prepared for a big day. Around the perimeter of the Motorcycle Park, Bob Karney, The Carolinas Biker Lawyer’s crew was setting up his booth which would be ‘manned’ all day by two lovely ladies passing out his calendars and posing for pictures. The Kettle Korn man was already popping corn and tantalizing everyone with the sweet aroma of corn and caramel! Freedom Biker Church had their crew on hand passing out the biker church’s literature. There was also a very unique coffin-mobile in the parking lot that drew a lot of attention all day. Inside the dealership, things were a little calmer having had more time to stock the racks and shelves with the latest HD gear and accessories. The sales staff was on full alert ready to assist shoppers with their selections and had a wonderful array of gleaming new motorcycles to tempt them with. There were drawings during the day for prizes and Mark Shrapshire won a Synthetic Oil Change and Steve Javonovich won an Indoor/ Outdoor Motorcycle Cover. Just as everyone was ready, the roar of motorcycles could

be heard coming down Farragut Street and filling the parking lots and the first band cranked up their music and it was game on! Throughout the day the crowd was entertained by: Brother Essau (Allman Bros.-esque Band), Passin’ Thru (Awesome Bluegrass Band), and A Cup Of Blues. Billy Leonard had his Greensboro HD sponsored Top Fuel drag bike on display and when he fired it up, that bad boy’s roar delighted the crowd during the band break! It was like old home week, seeing a lot of familiar faces and re-acquainting with riding buddies, all the while listening to good music, enjoying good food and beverages. This was a great way to start the riding season off with a great party. Steel Horse Band (the Headliner) took the stage and folks partied till after midnight. When people hang out all day and well into the night – you know you put on a good party! Blue Ridge H-D Holds Bunny Run

Story and photo by Alan Dockery The weekend before Easter, Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson in Hickory, NC, held their Inaugural Bunny Run benefiting Sipe’s Orchard Home. The run was similar to a toy run with police escorting 65 riders, many from the Catawba Valley and Statesville HOG Chapters, in the parade from the dealership to the home. And what a sight it was - a Harley Trike pulling an Easter Basket trailer, as the Easter Bunny waved to the people along Springs Road. I’m sure folks were telling their friends about us.

In addition to supporting the teens that live at Sipe’s Orchard Home, the Bunny Run also raised funds for their Pre-K program. Many of the Pre-K students were there to greet us when we arrived and get their picture with the Easter Bunny. The Tyndall, NC Pre-K center located at Sipe’s Orchard Home is the beneficiary of Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson’s Blessings In A Backpack program. Blue Ridge is committed to supplying backpacks of nutritional appropriate food each weekend for the at-risk Pre-K students who attend this school. The Bunny Run raised $1,600 for the purchase of food for the program. Each of Scott Fischer Enterprises’ dealerships, including Blue Ridge, is committed to supporting the Blessings In A Backpack program. After pictures and a tour of the school, we returned to the dealership for an After Party. Iron Thunder Saloon donated lunch. While we ate and hung out with friends, Soul Watt played a variety of tunes. The afternoon ended with drawings for door prizes. “On behalf of Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson, thank you to all that came out to participate in the ride and also the many customers that dropped off clothing, gift cards, and school supplies for the teens residing at Sipe’s and the Pre-K students at the Tyndall Center,” said Marty Hall, Blue Ridge H-D Marketing Coordinator. “We are proud to assist Sipe’s Orchard Home with our Blessings In A Backpack program. Nutrition has a direct impact on the ability of a young child to be healthy and to learn. It costs $80 to feed a child on the weekend for a school year. We currently have raised almost $2,000 total towards our $4,000 goal. Obtaining this goal will allow us to feed all the students at the Sipe’s Orchard Home for one school year. Freedom Biker Church Of Fayetteville 1st Annual Bike Blessing

By: Wendy Rogers On Saturday April 6th, Freedom Biker Church of Fayetteville held their First Annual NC Sand Hills Bike Blessing. The weather was outstanding, which made it even better for the 250 + bikers that came out to have their bikes blessed. Freedom Biker Church of Fayetteville sponsored this event to simply pray for the protection of those who ride, and to pray for those who don’t ride to be more aware and alert of motorcyclists. Ted Hammond also prayed for the protection and safety of those who are serving in our Military. He is a Vietnam Veteran, retired Sergeant, who also does an awesome job as the grounds facilitator at the church. Kudos to you Ted! Ray Price Triumph of Fayetteville, Cape Fear Harley-Davidson of Fayetteville and Cycle Works of Lumberton, Diffon Brothers Cycles, Hot Hog Leather, Rolling Thunder, Bikers For Bikers Foundation, Relay For Life, and many other great vendors were on site. Food Done Right served some mighty fine burgers & BBQ and the Chocolate Lady was covering anything and everything with her tasty and delicious chocolate, yummy good! The Freedom House band “Final Destination”, an awesome band with lots of talent, rocked it out all day! Everyone received one ticket at registration for the many great door prizes that were given out. Food Trucks, Demos, And New Riders By: Sarah Hager Non-riders, or as we like to call them, “soon-tobe-riders”, new riders and seasoned riders all had a reason to be excited on Saturday, April 6. Besides beautiful spring weather, Ray Price had Ride For Jason and Friends Poker Run, their monthly New Rider Boot Camp, a weekend of Harley Demo Days, and hosted their first Food Truck Rodeo. Ride For Jason and Friends Poker Run is an annual ride by Life Experiences, Inc., a nonprofit organization “that blends education, training, and the free enterprise system to create and operate businesses which provide fulfilling employment for adults with developmental disabilities, allowing them to function as independent, productive citizens.” The ride is named after Jason, a young man with autism and mental and physical challenges, who loves to ride motorcycles with his father. This year’s ride had about 50 participants, raising more than $1000 for the organization. April’s New Rider Boot Camp had 23 excited soon-to-beriders come out to learn more about the world of riding. The attendees were taught about the importance of clothing, how to personalize the fit of a bike and how to pick up a dropped bike. There were door prizes ranging from patches and DVDs

The Boot Camp ended at our Jumpstart bike, which is a V-Rod stabilized to a trailer so that the “rider” can feel what it’s like to change gears and pull back on the throttle without actually hitting the road. Needless to say, the boot campers left smiling. The Harley Demo Truck stopped by for the weekend, letting riders test out 18 different new 2013 models. Group rides led by H.O.G. members went out every 30 minutes. Some of the most popular demos included the FLHRSE5 CVO Road King, FXSB103 OE Breakout and FLTRX Road Glide Custom. Between rides, people lined up to get their own bikes pinstriped by Wild Bill. The first Ray Price Food Truck Rodeo had ten different local food trucks come out and line up along South Saunders Street. Philly’s Cheese Steaks, Hibachi Express, Captain Poncho’s Tacos, Sweet Stacey Cakes, Big Al’s BBQ, Valentino’s Food Truck, Gussys Greek Truck, d’Burritos, Groovy Dogs and Italian Ice guaranteed that there was something for everyone. 2013 Spring Bike Week Roars On The Strand

By: Everette “EZ” Short The streets are already rumbling with the thunder of big v-twins rolling into the beach from every direction as I write this in mid-April. From the early looks of it, this rally is going to be a hog packed good time. The helmet and noise laws are a fast fading memory from the past, except as an excuse to gripe about the “good old days” over a cold beer, while looking down the boulevard as the scenery goes by. Face it; everyone wants to be at The 73rd Annual 2013 Spring Beach Bike Week. If you’ve been to previous incarnations of this festival, the 4th largest in the US, then you’ll know some of these places, but check out the all venues listed, where good times are always waiting. It’s a guarantee that these destinations are worth spinning your wheels to take a gander. By: Mark Infield On April 6, 2013, Ton Up N*C hosted the first annual S.E. Rochelle Reliability Run as a tribute to S.E. Rochelle’s contribution to North Carolina’s motorcycle heritage. Inspired by local motorcycle legend S.E. Rochelle of Durham, NC and modeled after his famous AMA Sanctioned Gypsy Day Tour, vintage motorbikes (1974 and older) from all over the world started and finished in Durham at the Motorco Music Hall. Billed as the ultimate two-wheel attrition test of mechanic and machine, the 120+ mile low speed round-trip ride went through the Carolina countryside via MotoMark1 in Burlington and Natty Greene’s Brewery in Greensboro and back to Motorco Music Hall. It was 81 miles from Natty Greene’s back to Durham. The entire ride was viewed via USTREAM on a huge screen at Motorco, which was very cool. When we arrived back at Motorco there were cold beverages and a food truck on site. Ton-up NC has really cool posters, patches, and t-shirts for sale and awards were given to the oldest motorbikes successfully completing the ride. Categories include: British, German, Italian, American, Japanese, and Scooter. The winners were: Scooter: Larua Windley on a 1964 Vespa 90, Japanese: Barry Whitley on a 1967 Suzuki X5 200cc, Italian: Stephen Sellars on a 1971 Moto Guzzi Ambassador, American: Bob Manzak on a 1945 Indian Chief, German: Tim Green on a1972 BMW R75/5, and British: (name not given) on a 1973 Norton Commando 850cc. This was really a fun run and a great ride. After all that poking around in the country, I hit the interstate and had to do the “ton up” to celebrate the day. This was one of those days when you were welcome to drop in and show off whatever you ride or drive. Outside, folks did more than just checkout whatever cruised in to the parking lot. While sitting in the shade eating lunch, you could listen to the band Johnny, Johnny & Wendell. Castle & Cooke Mortgage by Suzi Branch and staff was there to raffle off a Harley-Davidson Kids Workbench and an iLive Bluetooth Speaker And Charging Station. This helped raise a little more money for Kyle Pierce Racing with Tilley HarleyDavidson. Kyle is Don and Robinette’s grandson and competes in the Carolina Clash Dirt Racing Series. Inside, there was more action with a tent event going on. Lots of riders got some good deals on Genuine H-D MotorClothes and accessories that day. “It was a beautiful day for our riders to come out to enjoy great music, food, and see bikes and vintage cars”, said Robinette Tilley. “Everyone has had spring fever and this was a great start to getting everyone out and about.” Drop by Tilley Harley-Davidson at 1226 Morland Drive (I-77 Exit 49A) in Statesville, NC. Guardians Of The Children, Winston-Salem Chapter By: Jeff “Windrider” Leonard, President The Guardians of the Children is a 501(c) 3 Non-Profit Motorcycle Organization whose mission is to recognize and react to child abuse, and to educate others to do the same. We serve as advocates to provide strength and stability to families in crisis, and to be an answer to the prayer of an abused child or teen for courage, support, and protection. Our motto is, ”Don’t Let Your Silence Drown Out Their Cries”. GOC was started in 2006 in San Antonio TX, and found its way to NC through the efforts of Joe Messina. Joe founded and was the first President of the Mooresville Chapter of the GOC. The chapter was chartered in February 2010. Following Mooresville was the charter of the Gastonia chapter in October of 2010 and the WinstonSalem Chapter in October 2011. The GOC is dedicated to protecting the victims of child abuse. Our alliances with other bikers allow us to call on resources that might otherwise not be available. We partner with other children’s advocacy agencies, victims assistance groups, as well as others in our communities in hopes of raising awareness to the severity of child abuse everywhere. By: Gypsy-Rose Photos By: BikerBob Saturday, April 13th, was a great day for a ride and what better way to spend it than with 53 bikes lined up for a poker run. There were three groups: Seven Sabres Brotherhood, BBQ Brothers, and Souls Of Service, plus other riders. The money from this event is all being given to the NC Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. This is a nonprofit charitable organization. This is a child who has decided to dedicate one day every year to help get the awareness of this out. You may ask why a child would do this. The reasons are many but for the most part she and her family want to get the awareness of this out. Jami’s father, Joel said, “It is a discomfort to walk into all the stores and all you see is the pink for breast cancer awareness.” Many may say, “But breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women and that is true and it is a cancer that needs a cure as there are many others. It just seems that breast cancer is the only one that gets the most attention.” I would like to give you a few facts since there is not a lot of information on the internet. “Brain tumors are considered the leading cause of cancer death in children.” “Diagnosis of a brain tumor was virtually a death sentence for a child.” “Each year 3750 more children are diagnosed with a pediatric brain tumor in the U.S.” The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation is a young organization. The foundation came about from Ride For Kids Motorcycle program that was started by Mike and Danne Traynor. This couple started this ride after a colleague’s child was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After seeing the success of the RFK, it inspired them to start the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation in 1991, so that the awareness of more than 130 known types could be researched and treated. This foundation also helps to educate and provides support to the patients and families. The group met across from D & Q Motorsports, registration started at 8:30 and kickstands were up at 10. The registration fee was $20 for each rider, $5 for a passenger or an extra hand. Along with your registration fee you received a small zip lock bag that had candy and a ticket in it. One part of the ticket was your meal ticket and the other

part of it was for the door prizes that they would be drawing later that day. They had 50/50 tickets that were $5 for the length of your arm or $10 for the length of your bike. With it being such a great day, although it started out a bit cool, our route took us along backcountry roads. Our stops included Loves Truck Stop in Dunn; Ronnie’s Country Store in Four Oaks, Dave’s in Angier and ended at the clubhouse of the Seven Sabres Brotherhood. There we had the 50/50 drawing, door prizes, two drink tickets and we were served hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, brownies, and cup cakes. On behalf of Jami and her family we would like to say thank you to her dad Joel for cooking, Tony Mabry and the Seven Sabres who sponsors this event every year, all the bikers who turned out to help raise $1345, the Patriot Guard Riders, who donated $40 of that, and to all the businesses that donated door prizes as well as those who bought door prizes and donated them. A drunken man walks into a biker bar, sits down at the bar and orders a drink. Looking around, he sees 3 men sitting at a corner table. He gets up, staggers to the table, leans over, looks at the biggest, meanest one in the face and says, “I went by your grandma’s house today and I saw her in the hallway buck naked. 8th Annual ThunderRoad Harley-Davidson Customer Appreciation Day

By: Scott Wicker On Saturday, March 23rd ThunderRoad HarleyDavidson in Danville, Virginia hosted their 8th Annual Customer Appreciation Day festivities. Cooler weather did not hinder the turn out of folks coming out for the day’s activities and fun. Dirt Road Scholars was a popular hit with the crowd there and provided the live entertainment. The Checked Pig was on hand serving their delicious BBQ with all the fixins’. The sales staff was busy showing off and answering questions about the 2013 Harley-Davidsons in stock and the finance office was continuously full of excited customers purchasing New Harley-Davidsons as well. The girls in the MotorClothes® Department stayed occupied showing customers the latest fashions in the 2013 line of clothing. MotorParts® and Service were also working hard on selling and installing all of the latest accessories from Harley-Davidson and getting customer’s bikes ready for the 2013 riding season. The fashion show was a big hit of the day. Gals and Guys alike modeled all the latest fashions for everyone in attendance. Those in attendance took a moment to remember Pam Edwards who unexpectedly passed away recently. Folks there poured their hearts out in remembrance of Pam. Pam will be

truly missed and our thoughts and prayers go out to her family members and friends that were at the event. Thanks to everyone at ThunderRoad Harley-Davidson for their hospitality. Randolph County CBA Bike And Car Show

By: Rose and LLoyd The Concerned Bikers Association of Randolph County is apart of CBA/ABATE of NC. They strive to claim and preserve the rights and freedom of all motorcyclists. On Saturday, March 23rd they held a bike and car show at Coxâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Harley-Davidson in Asheboro to raise money to continue their efforts. The weather was cold with a high threat of rain, but the group came out to socialize and show their cars and bikes. Trophies were given in different categories. In the car division 1st Place went to Bobby Crisco Sr. with a 31 Ford, 2nd Place went to Bobby Crisco Jr., with a 1940 Chevrolet, and 3rd Place was given to Jerry Throtter with a 1934 Plymouth. Mr. Markham won 1st Place in the truck class and Sonny York won 1st Place in Trike. In the motorcycle division, Michael McKinney took 1st Place with 2006 Harley-Davidson Softail Standard. Alex Caudell won 2nd Place with a 2004 Iron Horse and Adrian Parker won 3rd Place with a 2006 Suzuki. Quincy Williams Division President, Junior Needham, Treasurer and Gina Parker, Secretary, were the judges. I know they had hard decisions to make. Each person puts so much effort into making their car, truck, trike, or bike different, unique and

Ray Price Easter Basket Ride

By: Sarah Hager Ray Price Harley-Davidson and Ray Price Triumph closed out March on a charitable note, donating more than 200 Easter baskets to underprivileged children during its 7th Annual Easter Basket Ride. All month long, Ray Price collected baskets and donations from customers and the local community. The colorful baskets brightened the drag strip, reception desk, and stairs around the dealership. On Saturday, March 30th, 67 riders delivered the Easter baskets to children at Radiant Church’s “Easter Eggstravaganza” event in Raleigh. Ray Price led the 15-mile Easter Basket Ride, accompanied by first-time rider Jennifer Martin, Executive Director of Shop Local Raleigh. Beginning with a police escort from Ray Price Harley-Davidson on South Saunders Street, the ride continued through the beltline followed by the rolling hills that led to Radiant Church. The warm weather and cheerful sun the fun. made for an enjoyable ride. Seeing Easter Bikers unloaded the truck that had been baskets on the back of the bikes added to stuffed with Easter baskets and hand delivered the baskets to each child, resulting in many big smiles. Just Hawgs Spring Swap Meet

By: Caroline Saturday, March 16th was about the only day that was spring like in the entire month of March, even though it was still technically winter. I know I was glad, along with numerous others, to take advantage of the weather since it has been cold and wet for the majority of March. The reason this remains such a popular event, is that James and Jim open up their business a few times every year to anyone who wants to come out to buy, barter or sell. I arrived at Just Hawgs before 9 am so I could get a prime spot to set my table up. It did not take long before the parking lot was full with vendors and buyers. I know that a few folks sold out before 11am. Not bad for a few hours work! At noon,

a hotdog lunch was served for anyone who was there and ready to eat! Also, James and Jim gained a few new customers, since some that stopped by were “new to the neighborhood”. I know that James and Jim would welcome you anytime for your motorcycle service needs, but you better call first, they stay pretty busy. High Point Moose Riders Join Make-A-Wish Foundation

By: Ronnie Douglas, President HP Moose Riders. The High Point Moose Riders of the High Point Moose Lodge 693 had a poker ride on Saturday, March 23rd to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. We rode to New Garden, Kernersville, Winston-Salem, and Lexington Moose Lodges to raise money for this cause. The ride ended back at the High Point Moose Lodge, for free food, door prizes, and an auction. We had live music by the Carolina Cowboys and Barry & Kris Glenn of JR’s Corner Tavern conducted the auction for us. After everything was said and done we had the coordinator of the Winston-Salem Regional Make-A-Wish Foundation

come out to our lodge. We presented Lauren Davis, from Make-A-Wish Foundation with a check for $1,808. She was very pleased with what we did. Our goal was $1000 dollars, so we feel that we did very well for our first event. I want to thank everybody that helped us out on this ride: the workers, the sponsors, all the people who came out and rode with us, the High Point Police Department for the escort for the whole ride, (that was awesome!) all the members of the High Point Moose Lodge, the women of the High Point Moose Lodge, and the High Point Legionaires. it all. We spent the night there, linked up with my son and the next morning headed for Mecca. It was cold as hell and my son had an extra mask he gave to Epa. It was a black metal and leather wedge that made him look like “Hannibal Lector”. It was scary and when he said “Nice Trailer, Pussy”, it made it even funnier. We made it to Daytona safely, unpacked the bikes and our first event on the schedule was the FL Full Throttle “Crazy As It Gets Party”. We were joined by my brother, who always spreads good cheer. It was a good party but The Carolinas’ Full Throttle parties harder! We hung as long as we could, but they were playing adult games with a toilet plunger and a roll of toilet paper, so I got Epa outta there before he got in trouble. The rest of the weekend we spent doing the typical Daytona stuff. We drank a lot of beer, many toasts, and a lot of camaraderie. Friday we had a visit from our mutual friend, Jukka, who now lives in Orlando. For this we had to bring out the rum and Coke for old times’ sake. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, we ate more than we drank, so we behaved ourselves. That is until Saturday when we hit Destination Daytona, The Iron Horse, and Main Street 3 (third night in a row). Too many stories to tell, but you can imagine. I wasn’t sure we could give it the hell it deserved at our advanced age, but I think WE raised more hell than I did on my first visit in ‘84. We left Sunday morning. It took a couple of Monster drinks to get back to Fayetteville. We drove straight through and arrived home safe and sound after having cheated death another year. This year was real special. Epa, our Finnish brother, had a great time. He bonded with us like he knew us all our lives. He made his dream come true and we fulfilled our promise to one-day ride to Daytona together. Now he is legend in our family biker folklore. End of story? Not hardly. Plans of Scandinavian bike trips, many toasts, and more cheating death are on the horizon.

7th Annual Warhorse Brotherhoodâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Homeless Heroes Poker Run

By: Old Spook Saturdayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s run on the 23rd of March for the 7th Annual Warhorse Brotherhoodâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Homeless Heroes Poker Run turned out to be quite an adventure. I spoke with Randy â&#x20AC;&#x153;Old Dogâ&#x20AC;? Kent, founder, State President, and Chapter President of the Warhorse Brotherhood, a motorcycle club comprised of veterans, all of whom are avid cyclists. Well, on this run they had to be. The sign up was at Lowcountry Harley-Davidson from 10am to 11am. The first stop took us to Parson Jackâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s in West Ashley and then it began to rain hard. The weather was not cooperative and the ride on Rt 526 over the Wando Bridge was a challenge for the most hard-core rider. Winds up to 40 mph and rain that felt like bee stings greeted the riders on the ride on the bridge over the Wando River. Despite the weather, the turnout was great and the weather did little to dampen the enthusiasm. Over $8,000 was raised from the run and generous donations from corporate sponsors. All of this was in support of The Veteranâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Village, a home-

less veterans shelter on the old naval base in Charleston. The down-on-their-luck veterans are given shelter and clothing. Once on their feet, the shelter provides counseling and training to help them in job procurement. The Moonshine Bar in Summerville was the final destination for the after party. Montgomery Veteran’s Post 443 Benefit Ride By: Lloyd and Rose The Montgomery County Veteran’s Post 443 was struggling. Due to the economy and the lack of new members, the club was in need of help. One of their members, Tony Batton, who is also a member of United Riders Riding Club, asked the club to help. The process was taken to a vote and the club agreed this was a charity we were able and willing to help. So the process begins. If you have never done a benefit function, then I am sure you know little that goes into it and the hard work of many that comes together in the end. First you have to determine what kind of event you want to hold. Then there has to be a date and time and then all little details come in. Many thanks to Sheri Sandoval and Tony all the little details fell into place and the day was a big success. On Saturday, March 23rd, a benefit ride left from Cox’s Harley-Davidson in Asheboro. The weather was cold with a very high threat of rain, but the bikers came anyway. Joey Steel and Charlene Hobbs handled registration, while everyone enjoyed biscuits and donuts. Raffle tickets for a 40” Flat Screen TV were being sold. Clay Morgan had planned out a great ride though Troy and back through the country to Cox’s. It was a nice scenic and curvy route that all riders enjoy. All safety precautions were taken with the Troy City Police and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department providing blocking when necessary. Back at our destination there was lots of fun and socializing with friends and family. Many thanks to the Post 443 volunteers that cooked hot dogs. A special “Thank You” to Ron Simpson from Biscuitville at Fairfield and S. Main in High Point for the donation of biscuits. And to Mike Megimose from Krispy Creme of N. Main Street in High Point for the donation of donuts. Also to

Steve Murray, District Manager and Dale Bennett, Manager, of Sheetz on NC 64 in Asheboro, for the great platter of subs and chicken sandwiches for lunch. With out these companies that make these donation, events like this cannot be as successful as needed. The raffle was held for the TV and won by Lloyd Luquer. The United Riders had raised approximately $1700 for the Veteran’s Post. The weather held off and we had a great day for a great cause. The ride was cool, but safe and everyone enjoyed a great time. A huge “Thank You” to all that participated, these things do not happen without each of you. It is always a warm feeling to know that you are helping veterans.

Story and photo by Alan Dockery The second weekend of April, the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series competed at Virginia Motorsports Park in Petersburg, VA. This is a new series scheduled to race 10 times this year in conjunction with NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events across the country. At those events fans will see Top Fuel, Pro Dragster, Pro Gas, Draggin’ Bagger, Street Pro, and Hot Street race during the weekend. Tommy Grimes, Winston-Salem, NC, qualified the Ray Price H-D machine number one in Top Fuel with a 6.266 second pass at 221.27 mph. Half of the eight-bike field was from North Carolina including Brook McCabe, Roanoke Rapids, Mark Cox, Wilkesboro, and Jay Turner, Julian. Tommy lost in the semi-final round to Doug Horne, the eventual winner. Dale Nilles of Purlear, NC, was the number one qualifier in Pro Dragster with a 7.324 at 165.86. He lost in the final round to Johnny Vickers, Millers Creek, NC. Keith Browne, Semora, NC, won the Pro Gas class with that cool turbo bike. Unfortunately, he blew both cylinders off the engine during the run. This new series will recognize national champions based on their best seven of the 10 races. Winners at each event receive a coveted Wally (NHRA trophy) and participate in winner’s circle activities. The next couple races in our area will be Memorial Day Weekend May 25-26 Atlanta Dragway and Sept. 6-7 at Bristol Dragway. “NHRA Harley Davidson Drag Racing Series greatly expands Harley-Davidson’s commitment to supporting grassroots drag racers with great Screamin’ Eagle performance products, more contingency payouts, and expanded opportunities to race on a national stage,” said Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Kris Schoonover. “We’re very excited to partner with the NHRA’s strong divisional Sportsman series to raise the visibility of this exciting form of motorcycle racing at a wide range of great racing venues around the country.”

The bill received a favorable report from the House Transportation Committee on March 27th and awaits consideration by the House Judiciary B Subcommittee. It must pass the full House by the “cross-over” deadline of May 16th in order to remain eligible for consideration in the Senate this session. Right now it doesn’t look as if many people care about the helmet law. Until the motorcyclists demand to put an end to this discrimination against one group of motorists because they choose to ride motorcycles, the helmet law will remain in force. If you are content with the law as it is, do nothing. If you are interested in allowing motorcyclists the right to choose which equipment they feel is appropriate, it is time to get off you’re a$$ and contact your Representatives and House Judiciary

I like the Biker Code much better! But we shouldn’t be surprised, the Bible tells us to expect these very things and we need to realize we are living in the time of fulfillment of many scriptures. That lies would be promoted as truth and truth would be made as lies (Isaiah 5:20 etc) and that deception would be prevalent, for even satan himself is transformed into an angel of light (2Cor. 11:14). How do we handle these things now, how do we go through

this time we are living in? There is only one you can truly trust in, count on, and that will help us deal with the liars, deceivers, and cowards! Jesus dealt with the same things and same type situations and the same kind of people and understands our feelings and frustrations; and is there to give us strength to face each day and be witnesses for Him! CCC 3rd Annual Biker Blessing

By: James Cain The first Sunday of every month, Christ Community Church’s Motorcycle Ministry goes on a lunch ride, regardless of weather. On Sunday, April 7th, however, they hosted their 3rd Annual Biker Blessing, an event that has amplified CCC Motorcycle Ministry’s mission of “Doing what we love with people God loves.” This event, hosted on the first Sunday of April, has grown ever since its inception. The event included a poker run, 50/50 raffle, and over 30 raffle prizes donated from area restaurants, businesses, and CCC members. The proceeds from this event benefitted Teen Challenge last year and will benefit other charities in the future. This year’s proceeds were donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. There were riders from as far away as Raleigh that are members of several different biker organizations including, but not limited to, Blue Knights, Red Knights, Moore County Motorcycle Club, Bikers & Friends, Veterans (Pinehurst), and Patriot Guard. This ride was not a big organized group ride with a law enforcement vehicle at the head of the pack and many blockers. It was a ride at your own pace and enjoy the scenery ride where you could ride with your friends or organization without the hassle of worrying about novice riders throwing off the flow of the pack. Everyone got a route with stop locations when they registered and after the blessing was over, the ride through the scenic back roads of Moore County began. It was very fitting that the first stop was at the Viet Nam Memorial in Carthage with the Veterans MC, Southern Pines Special Forces Association, and the Military Missions In Action providing the second card of the poker hand. The third card was pulled with the support of CCC members and the Motorcycle Ministry at Union Pines High School. The fourth th card was pulled in the parking lot of Admission-$10 New Home Baptist Gates Open-1pm Church in Vass with Practice-5pm the help of CCC’s Race Starts-7pm Military Family Ministry. a lavish BBQ and fried chicken lunch was served by Jordan’s BBQ, a local favorite for BBQ catering. As everyone enjoyed their meal and the live music provided by Cabin Fever, the poker hands were reviewed and the raffle prizes were called out. There were so many raffle prizes that you’d have had a hard time not winning. With the growing support of Christ Community Church, the community, and local businesses, this event will only get better and better each year. Bikers have the biggest hearts when it comes to giving to a cause or back to the community. One such group is the Seven Sabres Brotherhood located in Angier NC. This is a riding club that is family oriented. They love to ride, tour, fellowship, and do works for charity. The goal of this riding club is to help the community, as they are able. The president of this outstanding group of bikers is Tony Mabry, who believes in family and friends as well as fellowship. This group embraces the rider, not the make of their bike. This brotherhood and sisterhood of bikers just did a charity ride for Jamiâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Wings. Jami is the niece of Jan Rhodes, who is a member. On May 5th they are doing Triangle Ride For Kids and on May 11th Kendaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Wish. Kenda is no longer with us but her parents are both members and started this because it was their daughterâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s wish.
