Thunder www.TheThunderZone.com

t this writing, I am enjoying a sunny fall October day. It is really nice outside. We are truly blessed to be able to enjoy nice riding weather most of the year in the Carolinas. Please check out The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for a wide array of events to choose from. Now comes November. In the motorcycle community, it is officially toy run season and there are tons of them to attend. Some are large and some are smaller, but the one thing they all have in common is bikers riding to assure kids have a nice Christmas. There are 308,808 motorcycles registered in the Carolinas. Can you imagine the size of the pile of toys and the thousands of smiles created by that many bikers? While I realize that not everyone is able to participate, the number helps put into perspective how much we can do together. November is also the month that we celebrate Veterans Day (11-11-16). There is no way to quantitavely value the contributions that the men and women who have served our country have made, but we can thank them for their service and sacrifice on our behalf. The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine recognizes and honors our Veterans at every opportunity. We salute you all. On November 10th the Marine Corps will celebrate its 241st birthday. Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, PA is regarded as the birthplace of the Corps. On November 10, 1775 the first Marines enlisted there under Commandant Samuel Nicholas to serve during the (Revolutionary) war with Great Britain. Since that date Marines commemorate the birthday of the Corps in memory of those who have gone before them and the glories of its long and illustrious history. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 4th Thursday in November. This year it is on the 24th. It was originally celebrated as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. It is a day when friends and family gather for fellowship and a meal. Many charitable organizations feed those less fortunate on Thanksgiving. November is a month of giving and celebration. I hope yours is as good as it can be. As always, ride safe and make the most of all your days. PS Don’t forget to vote on November 8th. There is a lot riding on this election and we can make a difference.

Cover Story

Widow Maker Customs CDR - Bone Yard Betty On this month’s cover is Rougemount, North Carolina’s own Widow Maker Customs build “Bone Yard Betty”. Let’s get one of your 1st questions out of the way. She is sold! Sorry, but really what did you expect? Hank Thibodeau is the builder and founder of Widow Maker Customs. He addressed quite a few interesting questions on her. First the length is 9’6’’. Frame height is 3.5’’. Engine ‘87 Harley FXR with Weisco Pistons and 10:1 compression, EV27 Andrews Cam, Twin Tech Ignition, Webber 2 barrel carburetor, Ultima 6 speed Transmission, and 2” Ultima Open Belt primary. Asking him what his inspiration for the build was, his reply was just to make another WTF bike! He has 10 months and over 200 man-hours in the build. Hank will tell you that this bike feels and sounds as hateful as it looks. Asking him what his favorite thing about the bike is. His response was he loved the overall stance and profile of the bike. His favorite feature was the intake/carb set up. You can always tell a Widow Maker custom when you see one just by the style of work on it. As Hank said it is a hand built bike that showcases what type of talents are available to you locally. So, I wondered if anyone stood a chance at getting their hands on his next creation. His response was the same for all of their builds; he hates to see them leave. But he looks forward to their next opportunity to create something new. There is a new build on the drawing board in Hank’s mind. Only time will tell what he is scheming up, but as of this date, there is no current taker on the next build. So there is a chance for you, but realize that Bone Yard Betty was sold before he had completed the mock up of the bike, so I wouldn’t procrastinate about making that phone call. You wont even have a chance to salivate over Bone Yard Betty locally because the bike’s new residence will be in Colorado. I bet she will wake that state up probably causing an avalanche from the sound alone. Hank also had some fun with his followers online. He shared the build every step of the way. He asked their opinions and even sometimes changed things up because of their suggestions. He very much enjoyed sharing the build with his followers, what they like and want is very important to them. He said based on the feedback he would be asking for their opinions again. One question that I ask every builder is what was the best and worst part of the build. Hank’s response was that the best part was getting outside the norm. Their bikes always have industrial and mechanical influences. This really shows in this build. However, this also adds to the struggle, using designs, ideas, and products they might not normally use. But this is what Widow Maker Customs loves; not just thinking outside the box, but tearing it up! What are you waiting for? Stop daydreaming and give them a call at 336-364-8535 if you would like their quality and standards for your next ride.

12th Annual Ray Price Capital City Bikefest By: WildThing To say this event has grown exponentially would be putting it mildly. Downtown Raleigh, North Carolina was inundated with the roar of motorcycles September 23 through 25. There were three venues for the Bikefest: the Ray Price Harley-Davidson dealership on South Saunders Street, Fayetteville Street, downtown was closed to 4-wheel traffic from the Capital Building on Morgan all the way to Lenoir Street, and the Raleigh Convention Center, also downtown. It was all free and the weather was great! The Bikefest opened at 8 am on Friday at the Ray Price HD dealership where there were several vendors set up and S. Saunders Street was parked full of motorcycles in front of the building. The USO Patriot Ride was leaving from there to ride to the War On Terror Memorial in the morning and the Kickstart ride downtown started out at 5:30 to officially open the Bikefest. At the opening ceremony, Kris Weiss, Promotions Director for Ray Price, welcomed everyone and introduced representatives of the beneficiary organizations, the USO and the US Veterans Corp, the Price family, and dignitaries from the Harley-Davidson Motor Company. The NCSU Air Force

Color Guard marched in and presented the colors followed by The Wake & District Public Safety Pipes & Drums Corps and Jennifer Woods of the US Veterans Corp sang the National Anthem. Then Mike and Charlene Beasley from Freedom Biker Church said an opening prayer. Mary Ann Baldwin, a Raleigh City Council member, who rode in the Kickstart parade with Kris, welcomed everyone and stated that in the years since

Bikefest began has “brought downtown Raleigh to life”. Tiny Blackwell, President of Hells Angels Durham presented Jean Price with a Lifetime Award in appreciation of the support shown to the Club. There was Custom Dynamics sponsored Parade Of Lights competition later on in the evening with bikes that sported accent lighting brightening up Fayetteville Street as spectators visited the vendors and local restaurants and enjoyed the music on the two open-air stages downtown. Saturday was another beautiful day and was quite warm and the Bikefest was in full swing with crowds of peoples on bikes at the dealership, then riding downtown to take in a day of music, food and motorcycle accessory vendors, and just hanging out. When it began to warm up, droves of folks began pouring into the air-conditioned Convention Center where the Ray Price Motorsports Expo was taking place. There were vendors, information booths and North Carolina’s largest custom bike show, sanctioned by International Master Bike Builders Association and sponsored by Misfit Industries and Ryd Wheels. Many of North America’s most accomplished motorcycle builders competed for $15,000 in cash and prizes. The bike show featured both professional and hobbyist bike builders competing with their vintage, modern, and radical designs in fabrication, paint, and engineering. The Harley-Davidson Demo truck was inside the Convention Center and they were offering rides on the new 2017 models. The Circus Una Thrill Show performed at several intervals, as well as Gold Medal BMX Stunt Show, Adam

Holbrook Trials Stunt Show, and Ryan Lanier Stunt Show. There was a TattooFest and competition, and the Miss Capital City Bikefest Pinup Contest, a live bike build, and live stereo build competition in between live music performances. Several celebrities in the motorcycle community were on hand for photo ops and conversation: Jody Perewitz – land speed racer, Michele Smith – American Thunder, and Dave Ankin of Toymakers on Velocity TV. I know you’ve heard of something for everyone, but this event makes it happen! Sunday was the last day of Bikefest and with the events on Fayetteville Street over; the focus was on the Convention Center. Freedom Biker Church held a Sunday service and the TattooFest was continuing, as well as the demo rides, sound competition, bike and stereo builds. At 10:15 am there was a NCWA Wrestling performance that had all the kids, young and old, hooting and hollering for their favorites. Then at 2:30 in the afternoon, Kris Weiss, an ordained minister, performed a first ever wedding at the Bikefest. Congratulations to Dale & Melinda. Then the moment the bike builders had been waiting for, the bike show awards. First place winners in the 2016 Ray

Price Motorsports Expo bike show included Best of Show: KW Customs, People’s Choice: Curly’s Custom Cycles, Road Devil’s Pick: Factory Metal Works, Invited Builder Custom: Butcher Chop, Invited Builder Baggers: KW Customs, Misfit Pick & Best Paint: Unknown Customs, Trike: Pinup Baggers, Antique Class: Woodlawn Baggers, Sportster/ Buell Class: Michael Erikson, Rat Bike: David Duncan, Bobber: Jay Marshall, Café Racer: Scott Carawan, Chopper: John Hyatt II, Euro Custom: James Aswell, Metric Custom: Tommy Hall, Sport Bike: Noah Irby, Bagger Custom Stock: Jeremy Williams, Bagger Radical: Floyd Hampton, Big Twin: Alan Williams, Sound-Off Competition: Zane Culleton. It was a great weekend and a truly wonderful event. $13,000 was raised for the USO of NC and the US Veterans Corps. “All of the builders, which included pros and hobbyists, brought remarkable designs to this year’s show,” said Mark Hendrix, General Manager of Ray Price, Inc. and the Capital City Bikefest organizer. “Congratulations to the winners in each category. The level of innovation and craftsmanship displayed by these builders was outstanding.” Lots of families and bikers of all persuasions were in attendance at this free, family friendly, event. Check out the photos at www.FullThrottleMagazine.com and plan to attend next September. It is the biggest rally in the state. You won’t be disappointed.

Manufacturers Cup Comes To NC

Story and photo by Alan Dockery I’ve seen some very impressive machines in my nearly 30 years of chasing Harley drag bikes down the strip. But the middle of September I was amazed by the quickest and fastest motorcycles in the country. The Manufacturers Cup came to Rockingham Dragway for the 22nd Annual MTC Engineering Nationals. Man Cup Motorcycle Drag Racing has been around for six years. It was created soon after AMA Dragbike ceased operations. Several race team owners realized they still wanted and needed to run. Currently, Jay Regan and Dave Schnitz manage the racing series. Bikes are spread across 14 classes from Top Fuel to Dial-In ET. They even have two ET classes with Pro and Street ET. Most of the bikes at a Man Cup race are imports. That’s cool for us who like all kinds of bikes. And, yes, for you Harley drag bike fans there are racers

to cheer for. Some of the stars of the Harley Drags can be found at a Man Cup race. In Top Fuel, the racers you know and love go up against the Japanese engine based machines. These are the quickest and

fastest drag bikes I’ve ever seen. They are capable of running the quarter mile in 5.80 seconds and more than 240 mph. The current Harley Top Fuel records are 6.19 seconds and 231 mph. But all it takes is for one of them to be a tick slow and the Harley makes it to the next round. At The Rock, Sam Wills, Edmond, OK, posted a 5.988 to qualify first. He lost to the legendary Larry “Spiderman” McBride, Newport News, VA, in the finals. North Carolina’s own Johnny Vickers sponsors the Hawaya Racing / S&S Pro Fuel class. This class is pretty much the same folks you are used to seeing run these bikes. Pro Fuel gives everyone a smell of nitro and Harley thunder going down the strip. Keith Browne, Semora, NC, ran his too cool turbo machine in the Nitrous Express Pro Open field. I saw Freddy Frazier, Sanford, NC, representing us in the MTC Engineering Super Comp 8.90 class. Looking at the qualifying sheets, it looks like about 200 racers were at The Rock. About a quarter of those were from the Carolinas. Y’all should have been there to cheer them down the strip. Yeah, the bikes look and sound different than what we are used to. But we have so few motorcycle drag races these days that I encourage bikers and race fans to check out the Manufacturers Cup if they come back to the Carolinas next year. Greenville’s Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride By: Wally Wersching On Sunday, September 25, 2016, tens of thousands of distinguished ladies and gentlemen in hundreds of cities worldwide wore suits instead of leathers, waxed their moustaches, pressed their tweed, and sat astride their classic and vintage styled motorcycles to raise funds and awareness for men’s health. In 2012, The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was started by Mark Hawwa in Sydney, Australia. It was inspired by a photo of Mad Men’s Don Draper astride a classic bike while wearing his finest suit. Mark decided a themed ride would be a great way to combat the oftennegative stereotype of men on motorcycles, while connecting vintage motorcycle communities. The first ride brought together over 2,500 riders across 64 cities. The success of the event encouraged Mark to use it to support a worthy cause. The ride grew every year, and in 2015, the ride had over 37,000 riders in 410 cities in 79 countries who raised $2.3M for prostate cancer research. My first encounter with this event was at the Greenville, SC “Cars and Coffee” in August this year. I met James Oden who was walking around the parked motorcycles passing out flyers.

He was constantly talking about the “Distinguished Gentlemen Ride” that he was starting in Greenville. It had been done in other nearby cities like Asheville, and Charlotte, NC, and he wanted to bring the event to Greenville, SC. I had no idea what the event was about so I went on-line

to www.GentlemansRide.com. In order to get the info I wanted, I had to register for the ride. After reading all the requirements, I couldn’t go on the ride because “Miss Vickie” doesn’t fit the requirement for the required styles of bike. They are going for a specific look: Tracker, Chopper, Classic, Scrambler, Bobber, Café Racer, Brat Styled, Modern Classic, Scooter, or Side Car. The more I read about it, the more interesting it became. I decided to go as an observer to take pictures, and write about it. I was excited about the event. I didn’t know what to expect. Before I knew it, I was pulling into the parking lot at Touring Sport BMW. I bought my 1999 BMW R1100R there back in 1998. They were very pleasant, and accommodating at the time. I haven’t stopped by for quite some time since I sold the bike. As I pulled in, I noticed a few bikes parked in a row. I made sure that I parked away from them so I wouldn’t be in the way. I saw James being interviewed by what looked like a TV crew. I started to look around, and everybody was dressed in suits, vests, bow ties, and other dapper dress instead of the normal black leather jackets. South Carolina doesn’t have a helmet law so many of the riders wore dressy caps, and even leather skullcaps and goggles. They were all dressed in the spirit of the event. As I walked around, I talked with many of the riders, many of whom were riding classic British bikes. There were other bikes in the event even some newer ones that had the retro look. Everyone had a smile on their face as they met new friends. One man rode in on his 750 Honda Café Racer wearing white shirt, vest, tie, and a vintage helmet with goggles. He also had an old style pipe for effect. Luckily, he wasn’t smoking it. Smoking a pipe while riding a motorcycle is dangerous. The pipe will get red hot, and then explode. I know; it happened to me many years ago, and scared the crap out of me. Later, a young lady rode in with

perfect posture. I don’t know why the ladies have better posture while riding than men. Men either lean forward or slouch. Women sit up straight when they ride. At a little after 9am, James gathered everybody to give them the safety speech. It can be dangerous riding in a group especially when you don’t know the other riders. The plan was to go through Greenville, and stop at a couple places to make sure that everybody was doing OK. There would be time enough to visit, too. The end point was going to be Mac’s Speed Shop on Main Street where there would be refreshments. The whole trip was only a few miles riding in town all the way. They wanted to get as much exposure as possible. There were camera crews set up along the route to film the event. There was one policeman from the Greenville County Sherriff’s Office on his police bike that volunteered to be in the ride. He would try to keep the group together by blocking traffic where he could. At 9:30, they all pulled out of the lot, and headed toward the center of Greenville. I watched as they left, and then headed home. I was proud to be a small part of the 1st Annual Greenville Distinguished Rider Event. They were already talking about how next year’s event would be so much bigger and better. This year, more than 56,000 dapper ladies and gents rode their bikes through 503 cities in 90 countries, and raised an incredible amount of awareness and funding for men’s health, with the current total at $3,350,000.

4th Annual North Carolina’s Hottest Biker Babe Beauty Contest By: Stand Up (SRMC) Motorcycle enthusiasts come from various social and demographic backgrounds and have different opinions on politics, religion, and morals. However, it seems that there is at least one opinion upon which the vast majority of bikers can agree: Hot babes rock! In order to prove this point, the Western Wayne County Chapter of the Southern Riders Motorcycle Club (SRMC) staged the 4th Annual North Carolina’s Hottest Biker Babe Beauty Contest on September 17, 2016 at Spike’s Tavern in Goldsboro, NC. In addition to providing concrete data with which to bolster the SRMC’s “Universal Hot Babe Theory” amongst bikers, the contest was held to provide charitable donations to breast cancer research. I think that we can all get behind the belief that every ta ta is special, and they should ALL be saved! In addition to enjoying the sight of the bevy of beauties appearing in the contest, bikers enjoyed a dinner of pulled pork

Bar B Que and veggies prepared by Fluffy – the Chapter’s Vice President. Fluffy did an AMAZING job of providing well-needed nutrition after the wildly entertaining event. The contest featured three competitions and the judges were selected from among the audience members: The Biker Babe Fashion Portion: Contestants were judged on their presentation of “Hot Biker Babe” wear. The outfits could be as sexy or as wild as the contestants wanted: Chaps, leather bra, Daisy Dukes and a bikini top - whatever the contestants thought was sexy and biker-babe-ish. The Lap Dance Portion: The contestants were judged on their ability to perform this venerable biker art form. The dances were auctioned off to audience members and the lucky recipients enjoyed the attention of some of Goldsboro’s most beautiful ladies. The Wet T-Shirt Portion: What biker beauty contest would be complete without the wet t-shirt event? The ladies had an opportunity to cool down after their smoking hot lap dance event by enjoying the sensation of cool water applied liberally to their nubile torsos. The privilege of pouring the water over the beauties was also auctioned off to audience members. Bikers are a community after all, and what demonstrates community support better than having community participation? The first prize was $200 cash, a tiara, and a red and white sash proclaiming the bearer as “North Carolina’s Hottest Biker Babe”. Second prize was $100 cash, and third prize was $50 cash. Three amazing and beautiful young ladies competed in the contest, each one looking to claim the coveted tiara and sash. The competition was amazingly fun for the audience and extremely competitive for the ladies. The competition was fierce and the scoring was close, but at the end of the day the winner emerged: Ms. Christeen of Wayne County, NC. Congratulations Christeen! The beautiful Christeen will be appearing at various events throughout the next year to represent her title and to let everyone know that she is North Carolina’s Hottest Biker Babe The event raised approximately $500 for breast cancer research. Hopefully, this money will provide some much needed research towards finding a solution to save 2nd base! The 2017 event will be in September, and will be even bigger and better! Please keep an eye on The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for the exact time and place as the date approaches.

Tuscarora MC 31st Anniversary Party

By: Johnny Reb I was invited to Tuscarora’s clubhouse for their 31st Anniversary Party on October 1st. I jumped on the Black WASP and headed over to their place, which just happens to be only about five miles from my house. Pulling in, the place was already jumping with people eating, drinking, and having a blast in general. Bikes, campers, and tents everywhere, you could just tell that this was going to be one hell of a get together! After parking the WASP, the first person I was looking for was my old buddy “Clutch”. He is a great guy and the service manager at Hometown Harley-Davidson. He is also a retired member of Tuscarora MC. I knew that he could give me the lowdown on the club. “Clutch” gave me some info but he said that I needed to talk to “Hurricane”. We sat down and over some Gentleman Jack, I got what I was looking for. Tuscarora MC was started by a man named Gary Minshew of Snow Hill. Gary has since retired, but has been known to make an appearance now and then. The club was meant to be a family first club, then work, and then 100% club. For a single

chapter MC to make it 31 years is an accomplishment in itself, but to be a strong, well-respected club, that is truly remarkable. When I say they are respected, well by the turn out at this party, it was evident that they really are respected and loved by the MC community. There were a lot of MC’s at the party and as usual I will try to list them all, Ghost Riders MC (many chapters), Dixie Steel MC, Dragon Slayers MC, Veterans MC, Freedom Riders MC, United Arms, Southern Sin MC, Brotherhood MC. As always, if I missed anybody, no disrespect intended. As it was explained to me by Hurricane, “This club is influenced by its present members, but also its past members. They have had some rough times but they have come out stronger because of just that.” The old adage, “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger”, really describes Tuscarora MC. When I was walking in, Alana Harris (Bigun’s wife), walked up and greeted me. She knows she will always be part of the Tuscarora MC family. A 2003 Road King was raffled off and the proceeds were given to the family of another club brother who passed. Renegade passed March 2015 and this was his bike. Scott Baker was the winner and to say he was happy, is a serious understatement! I am sure he is still smiling. The last thing I would like to pass on is this, Tuscarora MC are a great bunch of guys, they made me feel right at home and I believe I have made some new friends. Thanks “Spooky”, “Rooster”, “Hurricane”, “Tattoo”, and all the other members who were really great in showing me around. Ride safe brothers.

By: Jeanie Hood Carter I couldn’t say it more eloquently than photographer Vince Sittnick. Quote “Following a week of gloomy skies and rain, the weatherman delivered a perfect day of sunshine and Carolina blue skies for the 5th Annual Tim Diffin Memorial “Riding With the Angels” poker run and fund raiser.” Riders arrived at The Dog House in Fayetteville, NC eager to be on the road again after the recent rash of wet weather and crisscrossed the area as they made their way from the Dog House to The Redneck Yacht Club, then over to Spring Lake and Lost Memories, back across the cities to Louie’s and finally returning to the Dog House for their final stop and that all important fifth card drawing. This annual event is very important to the local community as it raises funds for the Cumberland County Foster Children’s

Christmas Fund. All funds raised go to buy Christmas for needy children in foster care through DSS. What a tremendous group of people are the local biker community. They are some of the most sincerely generous, giving, caring folks I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and in doing so, they continue to keep the memory of our departed yet deeply loved brother,

Tim Diffin, alive in our hearts. No account of this event would be complete without acknowledging the dedication and tremendous work of the Bikers For Bikers Foundation in fostering and spearheading this wonderful event for 5 years running. Hats off to you all; I am proud to know you and call you my friends.” I work this event annually and can honestly say I’ve never attended any events where there is more love felt or more respect! Fifty-One bikes, several cages, and close to 100 people participated in the run. Robin Underwood had a lucky day winning high hand, a tattoo donated by Fire & Ice Tattoos, and the 50/50, which she generously donated back. “GI Bob” won the low hand, which was a new helmet, donated by Cycle Gear. The big auction item was a certified and hand signed piece of motorcycle artwork by famous southwest artist Henri Peter, President of LAMA in Peru. High bidder was ‘Cheddar Bob’ Claude Cooke from Sharky’s. Ghost Riders MC 8th Annual Anniversary Party By: Johnny Reb The Lenoir chapter of GRMC sent me an invite to attend their 8th Annual Anniversary Party and brother what a party it was! Starting on Friday and ending Sunday it was a 3-day event with the best bunch of people you will ever find. The GRMC was founded in 1971 as a blue-collar working mans motorcycle club. They have not changed in 45 years. I first met some of the members when I started writing for The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. I noticed that at every charity event and benefit that I attended they were there supporting all good causes. I honestly have never met a better bunch of folks. They are always ready to step up and help a brother when the need arises. Struggles have been overcome as with all clubs, but now they are as strong as ever. Anyway the party was great, with a lot of MC’s stopping in and showing respect. The National President (Sarge) and National VP (Fireball) were both in attendance, and members from as far away as Tennessee were there to support their Lenoir County brothers. I have got to share with you a few of the outstanding members names that help make up the Lenoir County chapter, and the first being their President. Tim (Redneck) Whitley is the leader and probably one of the most stand up brothers you will ever want to know. The head chef in charge (and don’t forget it!) is “Doc”. He is one cooking master! He had shrimp anyway you wanted it and in the morning he is the first one up getting ready to cook breakfast and even eggs to order. Never did I hear him ask for help or complain, in fact he says he loves doing it. Dang, he even goes to other chapters and cooks for them! Now that is a brother who cares. Two other members I am going to talk about right now are “Bubba” and “Slim”. These two are the go to guys for whatever needs to be built, and wow, what a job they do! They have built an awesome place for all the members and their wives and girlfriends to have fun. They built one of the nicest bars I have seen in a long time at a clubhouse. Now, here next is a brother that looks like he would squash you with one hand and smile while doing it, his name is “Jager” and he is an old school biker. In this day and age of biker wannabes he is the real deal, and man, is it great to talk

to a guy that has been down that road and back again! He has been a biker for 43 years and still kicking ass. Another dedicated member is “Nobody”, he is the guy to talk to if you want to see and hear dedication to his club! I need to add that he was in a motorcycle wreck with his beautiful wife “Somebody” and lost his leg. If you think that slows him down, yeah, think again. He is just waiting for his scoot to be repaired and they will be back in the saddle! The last person that the members asked me to mention was a true to the last, a man that lived and died for the GRMC. His name was “Smoke” and he was the historian and the brother who knew all the history and rules regarding the club and he is still painfully missed to this day. I really wish I had time to mention everybody, because these are some really great people, but I think you are getting the picture. It was a blast of a weekend with games like the slow ride and a corn hole tournament. I guess, though, the best part was being able to just sit around and talk to some really amazing people. I can’t wait for the next invite, you know that I will saddle up the Black WASP and be there as quick as possible! Thank y’all and take care

Eric Doss Benefit Ride By: Rose and Lloyd Several months ago Lloyd and I got a call informing us that a very dear and close friend of ours had cancer and was in need of help paying medical bills, and for treatments. Right off we started selling raffle tickets for a duel grille. The ticket sales were a great success and we had to order more tickets. Then Jeff and Brill donated a fire pit that we also raffled off. With all benefits, I secure the food first. This time I wanted to do something different than hot dog, barbeque, or the usual. We had over 17 wonderful people donate pans of spaghetti and lasagna, and Texas Roadhouse supplied the salad and yeast rolls. A great big thanks to each one who donated and s special thanks to Peggy Gammons for helping keep food hot and in supply, so nobody waited in line Lloyd mapped out a nice country route for the ride. After Tamara Hunt and I got everyone registered, they enjoyed food from Bojangles, Biscuitville, McDonald’s, and Krispy Kreme. After a beautiful prayer for Eric and for the safety of riders by Angie Small Hethcox, the ride began. A special thank you to Alan Hethcox, Kenny Keever, Larry Hunt, Tony Bowman, Barry Staley, Dan Comerford, and a special friend of mine that came all the way from Siler City to help, Shawn Emerson that helped block traffic and made this a safe ride. We had many great volunteers, from donating food to selling tickets. I want to thank Wanda Fields, Rhonda Hess, Tammy Gurley, and Dawn Underwood for their hard work through the whole process. There was a 50/50, and raffle with an array of great prizes. DJ Dexter Jackson entertained us the whole day. There was a great auction, thanks to donations from Speedway, Greensboro, and Cox’s Harley-Davidson dealerships, and a special thank you to The Austin Group, Quality Salvage, King’s Electric, Preacher Steve’s, The Closet, The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and NAPA of Thomasville. Without the donations from these and many others, we could not help our fellow bikers. This is when the fun began. Our auctioneer was none other than Tony “Mad Dog” King with his beautiful little assistant Ms. Gracie Jackson. Mad Dog kept the crowd alive, with laughter and spending their money. He constantly reminds you it isn’t the money it is the cause. Thanks to all the friends and family that came out and showed your support for our friend and brother Eric Doss. Last but not least, a huge thank you to David and Missi Thompson for opening their hearts and their business, Double D Burnout Saloon, once again to help someone in need. Nikki Thompson, Kandi Durchinsky, and Drew Mucky, as always you did a great job.

It is truly a group effort to pull these events together, thanks to the family and friends and of course the biker brothers and sisters showing their love and support to a brother in need. Please keep Eric and family in your prayers.

Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation Charity Ride By: Kickstart & Donut Saturday was a great day for a lot of bikers. We have been planning this special day to come together to help support this great cause. On October 15th we all gathered for registration at Anthony’s Bar 1121 Caulks Ferry Road in Lexington, SC. What the Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation is about is - they provide compassionate assistance to the families of patients being treated at the Joseph M. We had so much involvement such as food, music, our good friends Gerry Delgado and James Hartsoe, thank you guys for volunteering your time. It was much appreciated! There were vendors of all kinds Carolina Cycles, Run To The Sun Photography, and Good Time Grill just to mention a few. So many friends made this possible that this day will go down in history. Kickstands went up early but did not go down until the riders had done their good deed as long as they could. Donut and I would like to thank all that made a donation with us to help support this event. You know who you are. You got one of those thingees that we sold for a dollar. So much was put into this and a whole lot more was given back. Special thanks to Terri Sestito Gervais for her first big rodeo at Anthony’s, (lol) good job! Oh! The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine

Thursday Evening Adventure By: Wally Wersching I saw a flyer for a Thursday night “Bike Night” on September 15th at the Harley-Davidson dealership in Spartanburg, SC and decided to go. I really hate to go and come back the same way so I made a plan to visit a couple friends on the way down, and take the interstate on the way back. I left home about 4pm and stopped at Sandy Run Cycles to visit with Rick. I’ve known Rick for many years, and really enjoy looking at all the great looking British bikes he has in his showroom. Then before I knew it, I was pulling into Chesnee Classic Cycle. Dennis was there with an old twostroke Suzuki. He wouldn’t stop talking about it. It started with a gentle push on the starter button and ran great. They were interesting bikes back in the day. I didn’t like them because they always smoked and you had to add oil to the gas or the engine would seize up. Some models were very fast. I left Dennis outside playing with the little bike As I pulled into the parking lot at the Harley-Davidson dealership, I noticed that there weren’t too many bike yet. It was still a little early. It was supposed to start at 6pm and it was only 5:45. I backed in next to a trailer in the shade. The sun was hot

but the air was cool in the shade. That’s when a steady line of bikes started pulling in and parking. They formed a second line blocking in the bikes parked next to the curb so I moved “Miss Vickie” up from the curb, and out of the shade. I didn’t want to get blocked in. I didn’t want to stay ‘til the end. At about 6pm, someone got on the stage, and announced that it had been a lot of work putting on the “Bike Night”, and wanted us all to enjoy ourselves. Then the “Justin McCorkle Band” started to play. They were good and loud. They played a lot of popular songs, and it was hard to tell their rendition from the original artists. I walked around taking pictures of the people and the bikes. Most of the bikes were Harleys with a few Japanese mixed in. “Miss Vickie” was the only Victory. There were a few vendors, too. I remembered the AMSOIL truck from the “Antique Bikes On Main” in Chesnee a couple months back. I talked with the salesman for a few minutes. Maybe I’ll try his oil someday. I prefer Castrol products for my bike and cars. I walked around, and eventually into the showroom with all the new Harleys. They all shined like a new penny. Harley does make a good bike and there are a lot of them on the road. They sometimes can be a little pricy. I saw a special edition on the floor with a price tag of over $40,000. That’s too much money for any motorcycle in my book. Most of the other bikes in the showroom were reasonably priced. At about 6:45, I headed to the Interstate. I was home a little after 7pm, just in time to walk the dog. It was a great way to spend a summer evening. I will do it again. e Th

7-Year Anniversary Party By: Bill Gallaway On Saturday, October 1st, the Hardwood Cruisers MC of upstate South Carolina held their 7-year anniversary celebration party in Pendleton, SC at Hog Tails Bar & Grill. The Beer was cold and the entertainment was hot. The entertainment for the event was on the huge outdoor deck behind the bar on the lake. This was where the band GENEVA set up and played. There were hundreds of attendees and I lost track trying to keep count of the motorcycles. Everyone who took advantage of the fantastic weather to ride from all over the upstate and far as Columbia, and maybe some locations I didn’t know about, was not sorry. We enjoyed the hamburgers on the grill and any beverage you could imagine. Did I mention we also had music provided by GENEVA? They are one of my favorite biker bands that I have heard and seen many times. Meanwhile, folks were socializing and relaxing in the shade with old and new friends. A good time was had by all in attendance and until the next ride, keep the shiny side up!

I can’t wait a year for the 8th Anniversary but I guess I’ll have to be patient. LOL FMI Visit HOG TAILS and Hardwood Cruisers MC on Facebook.

Rocky Mount Harley-Davidson Open House By: Johnny Reb I got a call from Jimmy Lyles, the GM at Rocky Mount Harley-Davidson the other day. He said come on up and check them out for an open house and unveiling of the new 2017 HarleyDavidson Milwaukee 8. Now Friday evening was beer and pizza. Much to my chagrin, I couldn’t get there Friday, but I assured him I would be there on Saturday. Now, just to let y’all know, my family and I have been sicker than dogs for the whole past week! So, I am thinking, “Can I make it up there on Saturday, or is it another day of crappy daytime TV and laying in bed?” Well, I woke up Saturday and it is just a perfect looking day to ride, and I guess maybe I can make the 75 or so miles up to Rocky Mount! No polishing the Black WASP, today. I loaded her up, threw the windshield on and we hit the road. It was a great day to ride and the closer I got to Rocky Mount, the more bikes I saw heading to the same place I was going, Rocky Mount Harley-Davidson! I guess the word was

out, and as I pulled in and saw the Budweiser trailer, I thought, yeah this is gonna be good! The parking lot was full of bikes, a stage was set up for the band, and vendors were selling their wares. It was early and I could already smell the food cooking, and brother did it smell good! Ok, no time for that, I want to talk to Jimmy Lyles. Now, I have never been here before but I noticed just what a beautiful store they have. It was jam packed with MotorClothes and Genuine Harley-Davidson accessories! The showroom was full of new Harleys, and I could not believe the prices! The new 2016s were thousands less than other dealers I have been to! I finally found Jimmy, who was handling a hundred things at once! However, he took time out to talk to me and let me know all the things they had going on and even some cool stuff they have coming up! Like, how about their bike night in October where if you show up in costume on your bike, they will give out some sort of prize! Pretty cool, right? Well, Jimmy is a great guy and he introduced me to some of the other key players on their staff. He wanted me to let all y’all know that they are really ready to do some great deals on their new and used bikes! I knew he was really busy, so I went out to see all the stuff going on outside. They had the Jamie Pridgen Band jamming out some country rock, which was sounding really good. I wanted to see the service department and I soon found out that their motor work is known for miles around and even out of state people come to get their Harley motors worked on! Well, by now I think the past week of sickness is catching up with me, and as much as I hated to, it was time to leave my new friends at Rocky Mount Harley-Davidson and head back to Snow Hill. It was a great day meeting new friends and a beautiful ride. Hell, what more can you ask for? Love and Respect.

Friday was full of sounds from the 69Z Band and some arm wrestling? Looked like Donald had the upper hand in that one last time I saw them. Saturday brought out a lot of people and the weather was prefect! Cherokee was spinnin’ tunes for karaoke Saturday and Sunday while Rock-U-Charlotte made an appearance Sunday! Tater was available with a massage table and Leggs was set up to sew or stich up whatever leathers and patches ya wanted fixed. She also had some handbags and bandannas for sale. Leggs was sewing on some patches for me while Tim was getting a massage just down the hill. Tents and campers were set up for some overnight relaxing by the bonfire. I was popping in and out over the weekend event and it was all a big party every time I was there. Who was trying to burst balloons with their butts during the event? I don’t know and sometimes the darndest things happen there, all in fun, of course! You never know what is in store for you during your visit. Make some plans to drop on by anytime ya like. It gets pretty interesting at times and just wide open at other times. Check out their Facebook page StarsAndBarsTavern for drink specials and other goodies. The bartenders there can make about anything you can think of, which, by the way, Lynn’s Jolly Rancher is the best around! Ya gotta be careful with those! You get your choice of indoor seating or outdoor lounging. There’s even a roof out there should it rain. Don’t worry, the bartender has a special window to take your order from if ya get stuck out there. Check out a collection of pics from this weekend’s event online at FullThrottleMagazine.com. Give me a ring if you’re interested in discussing advertising opportunities in this magazine at 980-643-8101. I may even buy ya a drink!

rides from off-roading to leisurely cruising down the back roads. There’s always a lunch stop along the way, and the ride ends back at the Catawba Meadows in the evening. The owner of the Timberwood Restaurant, their meeting place every Sunday morning, provided the food for the weekend. Many of the participants stayed at the park overnight so they could be ready to hit the road early. Some brought motorhomes and travel trailers for comfort. Others camped or stayed at local motels. I decided to ride up to visit them on Friday morning, and bring a stack of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle magazines for the participants. I got there at about 8:15am, and a few bikes were already lined up to go for the day’s ride. The weather was perfect with temps in the 70’s, and no rain predicted. I walked around, and talked with many of the Knobbies along with some of the rally goers. They were all excited to have a great weekend of riding the back roads of North Carolina and Tennessee. The back roads group left first. They all had smiles on their faces in expectation of the enjoyable ride. The off-road ride left next. It almost emptied the park. All that were left were Knobbies waiting for more rally goers to arrive. FMI visit: www.knobbies.org I left, and took the scenic way home. I got home about 11:00. Cindy and I went out for a nice lunch. It was a great way to spend a retirement morning.

By: Wally Wersching From Friday September 16th to Sunday the 18th, the Knob Mountain Motorcycle Club held their 7th Annual “Ride The Blue Ridge” rally at the Catawba Meadows Park in Morganton, NC. The “Knobbies” are a group of motorcycle enthusiasts who meet every Sunday morning about 8am at the Timberwood Restaurant in Morganton, and then go for a daylong ride to “who knows where”. They were originally a BMW Motorcycle Owners Club, but now they welcome all kinds of bikes to their rides. They are a friendly and warm group of individuals. The facility, the Catawba Meadows Park, is an excellent facility in Morganton, NC, which keeps getting better every year, too. The new large playground is amazing. I’m sure that many youngsters love playing on it. The city of Morganton is one of the sponsors of the event. Seven years ago, the Knobbies started holding the “Ride The Blue Ridge” event, and it was a hit with bikers, both local, and not so local. Bikers came from up and down the east coast, and even Canada. The club members were amazed by the turnout, so every year, they try to improve on last year’s event. The Knobbies rally is not like most of the normal biker rallies. There’s no loud band. There are not even loud bikes. This year, and every year, the focus of the rally was riding scenic roads with friends old and new. They had a storyteller who played an acoustic guitar for evening entertainment. This year, they had guided “Ride Along With The Knobbies”

There we were met at the door by owners, Deanna and Charlie Melton, with door prize tickets and a warm greeting. Deanna gave away a pool table full of door prizes to the riders and guests. We said goodbye and left for the third stop on the journey. Arriving at Willie’s Bar in Winston Salem, we were greeted by Lynn Allen and Janet Kirkman. We spent awhile visiting and fellowshipping there before heading out again. The fourth stop was Ole Watering Hole down in Wallburg. Ginger McMillian was waiting with a smile on her face when we arrived. We spent a little longer there as some of the riders wanted to know how to become members of Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Mechanized Calvary! Looks

like the rolls will be enlarged by at least 4 new members in the next few weeks! Leaving Ole Watering Hole, we took the scenic route for 46 miles down through Davidson and Rowan counties arriving at Stars and Bars Tavern in Salisbury, North Carolina. There, we were greeted by owner Tim Rogers and manager Lynn Burris along with their bartenders. Tim spread the red carpet out for us, furnishing a great meal of BBQ, burgers, dogs, and some of the hottest chili beans a lot of us had put in our mouths and all the trimmings! Waiting on us to arrive were vendors selling knives, shirts, and confederate items. We set up the door prize and silent auction table and let the party get started. Bikers who were already there and who arrived later were generous to our event. Tim Rogers let us go first at the meal then said anyone who wasn’t on the ride that wanted to eat could with a $5 donation. He donated that money to our event! We were overwhelmed with the generosity of everyone! We had riders up from Horry County, SC and from the Western side of NC. We had a couple drive their car from Fayetteville, NC to attend. Everyone came together to honor the sacrifice of young men over 150 years ago. We had absentee bidders who won 3 items. We had 50 confederate flags donated to us for the ride by Marty and Daphne Lanning of Hays, NC. Those were given out as riders registered! We awarded Best Hand Trophy to Mark Hiatt who rode up

from the Albemarle area and Worst Hand to Todd “Bubba #1” Beasley! We awarded a $5 cash prize and a patch to 7-yearold Calien Chavis who rode 86 miles on his step Dad’s Street Glide the entire event. He’s learning to be a little biker! His Mama sent us a picture of him riding home in her car following the ride. He was asleep! Guess being a biker is hard sometimes! We ended the event with a campout on the Stars and Bars premises. If you haven’t checked out the back lot there, you are missing something. Tim has shower facilities and really nice area to camp should you choose too. We had a blast with the 10 people who stayed the night. Those Jolly Rancher Slushies are great, too, on a hot night! Once everything was added up, we raised $2470.66 for the cemetery. With all the talk being of when we can do it again! So make plans to attend next year, we will post details when time is near!

10th Annual Britt’s Bike Show By: Wally Wersching Britt’s Bike Show is always a great event. I always mark my calendar so I don’t forget. On Saturday October 15th, it was overcast and cool – but no rain! That’s a good thing because all the bikes have to be ridden in to the show (no trailered bikes allowed). At about 10am, I headed to the Lincolnton Church of God for Britt’s Bike Show. I was greeted in the parking lot with warm smiles from the Driven By Grace Biker Ministry members who knew me, and even from those who didn’t. They are a very friendly group of Christian bikers. They asked if I wanted to put ”Miss Vickie” in the show. I didn’t want to show up all the Harleys in the show plus, I wasn’t going to stay that long. After I parked, I walked to the registration table, and placed a stack of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazines on it. I walked inside the building to see the many different things for the auction they would hold after noon. I saw some of the things that I donated. On the other side of the room, they were getting ready to serve the free meal of BBQ along with all the

fixin’s. It’s always delicious. At about 11:30, they started serving. I didn’t eat because I knew that I would take Cindy out for lunch as soon as I got home. I walked around outside looking at all the beautiful bikes. One bike caught my eye. It was a beautiful blue Harley with skulls in the paint. The artistry in the paint was almost spooky. The skulls looked real, and they matched exactly a tattoo that he had on the back of his head. I talked with the owner for quite a while. He told me how it all started, and now he’s

got so much money in the bike, he’s afraid to ride it much. He trailers it to shows that are more than a short ride. He’s looking for a bike he could actually enjoy riding. Of course, I suggested a Victory – maybe even an Indian. They are both so much better than another Harley. I got him thinking about it. I walked back inside again to look at the trophies. I always wondered how the winner could get the trophies home on the bike. Some stand over four feet tall. Candy found me outside, and persuaded a friend to take a picture of the two of us. The young lady took a good picture with my camera, which shows that anyone can take a good picture with my camera – not just me. It’s the camera – not the photographer! I felt funny because I’m usually the one taking pictures. A little later, Candy started singing. She has the voice of an angel. When I first heard her, I thought that they were playing a recording of a country/western singer. She’s that good! I left at about 12:15. After I got home, Cindy and I went out to lunch to the local Italian Garden Restaurant. It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

By: Kickstart & Donut On September 18, 2016 David Dooley got the day he was looking forward to for a long time. He has been planning this for a long time, and after several months and lots of hard work, David got the pass to move forward. David is so happy to get this ball rolling. We had a ground breaking day service at the site. The day started off with great weather and a lot of friends. We met at the future Red Stone Motorcycle Ministries location at 236 Hollis Drive in Lexington, SC and started the morning off with a good breakfast around 9 am and then onto a fellowship service at 10am. Once the morning service was done we all walked to the official ground breaking site where most of us all got to dig up some ground to celebrate this wonderful day for Red Stone Motorcycle Ministries. The goal is to have a building built as soon as possible so we can seat a numerous amount of visitors and members in the 30’ x 64’ church. Red Stone Motorcycle Ministries is involved in so much around the bike community and do a whole lot for us all. This is such a great blessing to have a good group like this around spreading the wonderful Word of God around to our bikers and friends. After the ground breaking was over, Mr. Butch Thomas wanted to pop the ques-

tion to his best friend, Angel Crozier, and ask her to marry him. She accepted, by the way! Congratulations to you both! After all that excitement, we worked up and appetite and went back to enjoy some food and talk with all of our friends. Cowboy and his mom sang some great hymns for us and everyone appreciated them for that. David Dooley would like to encourage bikers and friends to continue to come out on the first and third Sunday of every month to worship with them. This is a new beginning for wonderful lifestyle for everyone. I hope to see you there. Ride safe, brothers and sisters. God bless us bikers.

Bike Night At Down Home Harley-Davidson By Scott Wicker There is always something exciting happening at Down Home Harley-Davidson in Burlington, NC. On Friday Evening, September 16th, they held one of their patented Bike Nights For A Fun Time before summer ended and old man winter arrived. The Burlington H.O.G. Chapter donated and served delicious BBQ with all the fixings. Chris “DJ Chubbs” May, was on hand playing everyone’s favorite tunes as well. One of the big topics of conversation throughout the event was the upcoming arrival of the New 2017 Harley-Davidsons equipped with the 107 c.i. Milwaukee 8 engine soon to arrive. The engine, with 4 valves per cylinder allowing better flow of air into it, had everyone’s curiosity piqued and having a lot of diehard Harley-Davidson owners anticipating the day of arrival and being anxious for Demo Day at Down Home Harley-Davidson. Many people participated in a Friendly Corn Hole Tournament and folks were entertained by the plunger lovers shenanigans and the panty hose tug of war. No doubt the big hit of the night was the Sumo wrestling contest. Those that chose to participate suited up in specially designed Sumo wrestling attire and battled to eliminate there opposing foe by forcing them out of the designated circle just like real Sumo wrestling. The matches lasted well into the dark hours and Butch Armstrong

and staff had to fire up several of the New Harley-Davidsons on display out front to provide light for the contestants and spectators to see. Everyone enjoyed the Sumo wrestling and as usual, a great time was had by all of the folks there. We would like to thank all of the staff at Down Home Harley-Davidson for a fun time and their hospitality is always appreciated. Look for new and exciting events in the coming months and stop by and check out all the new 2017 HarleyDavidson motorcycles. Ride Safe!

NHRA Carolina Nationals At zMAX Dragway Story and photo by Alan Dockery The National Hot Rod Association kicked off the championship chase during the Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway, Concord, NC Twenty two Pro Stock Motorcycles were there running hard to make the 16-bike field. I was glad to see lots of our readers and long-time motorcycle drag race fans at the finest dragstrip in the country. Three racers represented the Carolinas. Matt and Angie Smith from King, NC, raced the Victory Gunner bikes and are real popular with the fans. Shawn Gann, Stoneville, NC, was on the Clonex sponsored Buell. The other stars of Pro Stock Motorcycle were there hanging out with fans and putting on a great show. Pro Stock Motorcycle is a great class in many ways. With two dozen race machines fighting for 16 spots, there ain’t any sandbagging during qualifying. Fans who have followed motorcycle drags for years will see racers they have cheered down the strip many times. And there are young men and women there hoping to be the future stars. You can cheer for Harleys, Buells, Victorys, and Suzukis.

There are so many things that make an NHRA race such a great fan event. Every ticket is a pit pass. At NHRA races the fans can walk the pits any time during the weekend. You can watch race teams work on the bikes or cars. The riders and drivers eagerly talk to fans and pose for photos. Harley-Davidson always has a huge display of their new motorcycles. The coolest thing was the cut-away of the new Milwaukee Eight engine. The pro classes get the attention, but zMAX was covered in hundreds of acres of all kinds of drag cars. If you are a Southerner and love Pro Mod you should have been there. The most Pro Mods I think I’ve ever seen were there. I love to walk the sportsman pits and check out the old muscle cars that are still raced often. There were several old Gassers there and others to entertain us. And once your kid sees others running junior dragsters, you might have a new inter project to build. NHRA comes to the Carolinas twice a year for the famous Four-Wide and the Carolina Nationals.

Biker Blues & BBQ Rally & BBQ Classic By: WildThing Here we go again and was I ready for some scrumptious BBQ! Tilley Harley-Davidson of Salisbury is the home of the 6th Annual Biker Blues & BBQ Rally & BBQ Classic. BBQ teams from all over the place compete for this KCBS, (Kansas City Barbeque Society) and NC State Barbeque Championship. Vendors and the 67 cooking teams were busy setting up Friday morning and the Tilley staff went about preparing the dealership for the expected visitors Friday evening and all day Saturday. The blessing was great weather and admission is free for this familyfriendly event. Friday evening’s entertainment was Darrell Harwood, a “high energy good ole country boy”, who along with his Cool Water Band (A.K.A. CWB) wowed the crowd of BBQ teams and rally goers. He hails from China Grove and they say he’s a natural born entertainer. I heard several favorable comments on Saturday about his performance. By the time we arrived on Saturday the competition and rally was in full swing and we had to circle around to find two bike parking spaces. We also made sure we arrived on time for the Peoples’ Choice BBQ tasting. For a mere $5 you were able to judge 10 samples. They were generous samples and it was hard to choose a favorite, but it had to be done! Then we wandered around and visited the vendors: jewelry, handbags, pinstriper, metal fabricator, bike luggage racks and cleaning supplies, insurance agents, custom baggers, the DAV was selling raffle ticket for a shotgun, an there were funnel cakes, Italian ice, cotton candy, and smoked turkey legs vendors. There was the largest crowd at the beer booth! Most of the afternoon The Delmonicos Band was up on the main stage belting out some great tunes. The Tom McGrath Motorcycle Law Group sponsored a

charity ride that attracted 100+ riders and was led by Iredell County Sheriff’s Motor Patrol. The best hand and worst hand were awarded Tilley Harley-Davidson Gift Cards. One hundred percent of the funds raised from this ride goes to Salisbury Veteran’s Hospice House. Around 4 pm, the coordinator for the event, Gary Moss, took the stage and invited Jim Cannon representing McGrath to announce the winning hands and a giant check in the amount of $1045 was presented to VA Hospice. Gary went on to thank all the sponsors for this event, Tilley Harley-Davidson of Salisbury and GM Tracy Edwards, and the H.O.G. Chapter volunteers. Then he introduced the 2015 National Honor Guard Champions from Rowan County who marched forward and presented the colors, saluted, and played taps. We saw these guys last year and they do a great job. Next on the agenda was pulling raffle tickets for all the donated goods that included a Green Mountain pellet grill tailgater model, a $500 Tilley H-D gift certificate, and three UWS truck toolboxes. There were some happy campers after this! It was finally time to award the BBQ teams their winnings. They are judged on chicken, pulled pork, ribs, and brisket and were awarded trophies and honorable mentions. Reserve Champion was Sauced! BBQ and Redneck Scientific took the Grand Champion and they were awarded a cool hand crafted trophy with the event logo and a pig on a motorcycle. Gary Moss does a great job making all this come together with the support of Tilley Harley-Davidson of Salisbury and for a great cause – Salisbury VA Hospice House. Thanks to all who came out and enjoyed the day. I hope to see you again next year. If you missed this event, watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for the 2017 date.

Stay Warm While Riding This Fall With Mission Active Wear

By: Buzz When summer is over and the blazing, short sleeve days get shorter, the temperatures steadily decrease. I much prefer a balmy summer evening ride getting nailed by bugs over counting the miles go by on a frosty fall or winter ride. But that doesn’t stop us from going on a dozen toy runs and keeping up the mayhem with our favorite riding brothers and sisters. But, I HATE being cold. With that in mind, I am always looking for better ways to keep warm while I ride. I recently came across a line of products from Mission, touting a line of lightweight apparel to keep you warm while riding during those less than tropical months. “I’ll bite, it’ll be worth it if it works.” I thought. On first Impression I was pleased with the soft, stretchy, ultralight weight fleece lined material that the apparel is made of. They slide on easy with minimal tugging, and were snug on my body without being tight or restricting. They were a perfect fit as an under garment and didn’t interfere with my jeans, shirt, or jacket. Nice, 1st test done. As usual I get dressed for a ride, but don’t get out of the door immediately. I may forget to feed the dog, need to finish my coffee, or whatever it may be that keeps me from exiting the house after bulking up with winter riding gear. That’s no big deal with the Mission VaporactiveTM apparel. While I did my last minute scramble I could feel the warmth from the Mission apparel I was wearing, but I wasn’t getting hot or steaming up my sunglasses, either. The VaporactiveTM patented technology rapidly evaporates and removes sweat, keeping you ultra-dry and warm. The Mission apparel comfortably stretches with your movements and I was even able to pull back my hair with no restrictions or bunching of material while waiting for my bike to warm up. That’s a plus! Ok. I was already more than pleased with the pre-ride performance of these products. Now for the road test. It was 55º the morning of my ride, making the temperature around 30º at 50 miles an hour. To get a feel for the temperature I started out without the gloves. It didn’t take long before my fingers and hands were cold. The Mission VaporactiveTM Baselayer shirt is compression fit and was snug on my wrists though, and kept the cold air from traveling up my jacket sleeve keeping my arms warm. I stopped and put the Mission Radiantactive lightweight gloves on and was feeling some warmth returning to my digits within moments. The gloves utilize RadiantActiveTM technology that features proprietary carbon-infused fleece and retains 20% more heat than non-carbon fleece gloves. I took off again with just the gloves on with no leather glove on top. I HATE riding in gloves. I have always had a hard time finding a glove that would keep my hands warm and allow me a comfortable range of motion. I

usually end up with sore hands from over gripping the handlebars caused by thick gloves that make it feel like the throttle is slipping. A few miles into the ride I noticed that my fingers and hands were not cold any longer. My hands were comfortable, I could feel the gloves silicone palm griping my handgrips and I wasn’t over squeezing, causing any pain. This is pretty damn cool! The Mission Lightweight performance gloves thumb and pointer finger are also “touch screen compatible” and surprisingly so considering that the fingertips are soft. That means you can check the The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine online Cruisin’ Calendar for more info on the ride you’re are going on, maneuver on your GPS screen or check to see how many likes that pre-ride selfie has gotten without removing your gloves. Pretty cool, huh? Back to the ride. Did I mention that I hate being cold? Chaps are a must for me on cold rides, but not today. I wanted to see what these Mission VaporactiveTM Baselayer pants could do. As I cracked the throttle and got up past 50mph I could feel the wind getting through my jeans, but as the miles pealed off, my legs remained comfortable and warm. The compression fit pants have smooth flatlock seam construction and provide an increased range of motion and fit comfortable under your jeans and boots while keeping you warm. This is shaping up to be a better than average ride because I am comfortably warm on this chilly morning! The last link in the chain is the head and neck. No worries, Mission Active also carries a RadiantactiveTM performance beanie that has a low profile that fits under your helmet with no problems. The soft, thermal fleece of the beanie absorbs and retains your body’s natural radiant energy, keeping you warm, and wicks away sweat to keep you dry. The fleece material is covered with compression fabric and provides increased ventilation where you need it most. Couple the beanie with Mission’s loop construction ultra-lightweight fleece scarf and I was as comfortable as I needed to be. The scarf has a loop on one end that makes it no problem to secure the scarf. The fleece was warm and comfortable on my neck and stayed where I wanted it. I was able to turn my head side to side without having to readjust to keep the cold wind out. I rode on for about an hour straight and was definitely impressed by the line of apparel Mission has produced. The compression fit apparel fit comfortably under my jeans, t-shirt, and helmet. I was able to keep warm without bulky clothing restricting my full range of motion. If you are looking for a better way to stay warm during the fall and winter riding season, go to www.Mission.com and order a comfortable day of riding, cause that’s what you will get. These items will also make great Christmas presents!

Captain Bradley Long Memorial Ride Story and photo by Alan Dockery On the last Saturday in September bikers gathered at the Newton, NC, Fire Department for the Bradley Long Memorial Ride. Bradley served with both the Newton and Sherrills Ford Fire Departments and died while trying to recover a missing swimmer in Lake Norman. It was a beautiful day as hundreds of bikers headed out for a ride around the area. We started the day in a very somber mood since Bradley wasn’t with us. But as the day went on and we stopped at Iron Thunder, Zipper’s, Joey’s, the Sherrills Ford – Terrell Fire Station, and Horsefeathers we thought about him and told stories. The ride ended at Home Town Hawgs and the poker run winner was Doug Bunch. Phillip Jenkins had the worst hand. “I would like to thank everyone that come out today to ride in the Bradley Long Poker Run,” said ride organizer, Darlene Huffman. “The Lord gave us a beautiful day and everyone got back safe. Thanks to the Long Family for everything you have done for Pink Heals and letting us honor our brother Bradley. We loved

having him as part of our chapter. He was always there to help.” “This was a great event. We had 175 riders today and raised $6,307. This will help so many people in our community. Also thanks to Home Town Hawgs for all their support. The Newton Fire Department, Sherrills Ford Fire and Rescue, Newton and Hickory Police Departments all helped. We greatly appreciate our supporters for the stops and all of our Pink Heals volunteers. Thanks to Michelle Lee Little and Samm Ann and Chad Long for their hard work helping making this a great event,” Darlene said.

The stage was set for Harley-Davidson of Greensboro’s Discover More Open House. The event opened on Friday, September 23rd, for a “Happy Hour” from 4-6pm with free chicken wings and free drink tickets to redeem at Chunks Hawg Haven. Bill Allen was the raffle winner and took home a H-D® Nostalgic B&S Beverage Chiller. That’s how you start the weekend off right! Saturday morning the party continued with a free biker breakfast starting at 9am with free coffee, breakfast pastries and door buster savings in the Parts & Accessories and MotorClothes® departments. The show room was bustling with bikers from all around looking at all Harley-Davidson of Greensboro had to offer. There were plenty of 25% off signs on the merchandise displays and the sales people had their hands full with customers inquiring about the hot bikes on the showroom floor. I saw a few deals go down while I was there! Congrats to those who took home a new bike! The grill was fired up out-

Motorcycle Fatalities Rise By 8.3% September 27, 2016 The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) announced the release of a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) concerning traffic crashes and fatalities for 2015. Of particular interest to motorcyclists is the fact that motorcycle fatalities rose 8.3 % between 2014 and 2015. This report comes roughly four months after the Governors Highway Safety Administration (GHSA), which predicted a 10% rise in motorcycle fatalities for 2015, issued a similar report. I have included links to both reports at the end of this article. While any increase in motorcycle fatalities is unwelcomed news, this latest report should not be met with panic or knee jerk reactions. It is important to keep in mind that traffic fatalities as a whole rose in 2015. According to the NHTSA report, traffic fatalities rose by 7.2 %, with many segments of the transportation community seeing larger increases than motorcyclists. Van related fatalities rose by 9.3%, while SUV related fatalities rose by 10.1%. Pedestrian fatalities rose by 9.5%, and pedal cycling related fatalities rose by 12.2%. It is also important to point out that the 2015 increase in motorcycle fatalities comes after two straight years in which motorcyclists saw decreases in fatalities. The report failed to draw conclusions as to the reason for the rise in either motorcycle fatalities or traffic fatalities as a whole. However, with regard to motorcycle fatalities, the NHTSA report points out two specific findings. One is that all age groups saw increases in motorcycle fatalities except for riders nineteen and under; they saw a decrease of 8.7%. The other issue specific to motorcycle fatalities concerns states with universal helmet laws versus those, which do not have such laws. The report states that 58% of those killed in states without universal helmet laws were not wearing a helmet, compared to 8% in states with universal helmet laws. I am not sure why NHTSA felt it was important to point that out. One would expect more un-helmeted fatalities in states that allowed adults to choose whether or not to wear a helmet. Motorcyclists as a whole are generally law abiding, and in the nineteen states that require motorcyclists to wear helmets we tend to wear helmets. If NHTSA was attempting to draw a correlation between the lack of universal helmet laws and the 2015 rise in motorcycle fatalities, it failed to effectively do so. The data does not support such a correlation. According to this year’s GHSA report, thirty-one states saw

motorcycle fatalities increase while only sixteen states saw a decrease. Of the nineteen states, which currently have a universal helmet law, twelve experienced an increase in motorcycle fatalities in 2015. Of the sixteen states, which saw a decrease in motorcycle fatalities, only six have a universal helmet law. The other ten either allow adults to make their own choice or have no law at all. The sad truth is that motorcycle fatalities increased across the board. So what does the NHTSA report mean? As far as this humble writer can tell it means that 2015 was a bad year for motorists in the United States. It means nothing more and nothing less. But that does not mean that motorcyclists should do nothing. Regardless of whether motorcyclists see an increase in fatalities as we have this year, or whether we see a decrease as we have in the past few years, we should always be striving to improve motorcycle safety. So here is a suggestion: If you have not taken a course to improve your skills in the past few (or twenty – you know who you are) years, sign up for one. There are great skills courses offered throughout the country. If you are not a member of a state motorcycle rights organization that promotes motorcycle awareness and education, consider finding one. Every state has them. All of us have an interest in motorcycle safety. Let’s make it a priority. To go one step further, I’ll make each of you a deal. In the next year I will take at least one of the many motorcycle courses offered which helps correct the bad habits that we all pick up, and which help us to hone the skills which can be critical in surviving an emergency situation. I will also promise to take a more active role in promoting motorcycle awareness and education. All I am asking is that you promise to do the same. If we all agree to do this, not just in the next year, but also in all of the upcoming years, we may see fewer years like 2015. You never know. The life you save may be your own – or mine. CMA Fall Diaper Run For The Foothills Pregnancy Care Center By: Bill Gallaway Sunday, October 2, 2016 was the date for the Fall Diaper Run. We were on a mission for GOD. There were 20 bikes with around 33 riders participating in the run. Riders came from Clemson, Seneca, Central, Greenville, Easley and Pickens, SC and there were members of the Sons Of Thunder, Freedom Biker Church, and Christian Motorcyclists Association in attendance. We had folks ranging from 9 to 70 years of age on the ride. The ride began at 3pm on a beautiful sunny Sunday at the Crosspoint Church at 1016 Tiger Boulevard, Hwy 123 in Clemson, SC. The temperature was in the 80’s, perfect for a 72-mile ride thru the foothills of upstate of South Carolina. Upon arrival at the Pregnancy Care Center located in downtown Seneca, SC, Kelly, a representative met the riders as they arrived with saddlebags loaded with diapers and cash donations that go towards purchasing The the diaper sizes

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! At our house we call it “pickin” and it is symbolic of your acceptance in the group. We live in the United States Of The Offended, so get over it!! A couple was invited to a swanky Halloween costume party. The Mrs. got a terrible headache and told her husband to go to the party alone. He being a devoted husband protested, but she argued and said she was going to take some aspirin and go to bed and there was no need for his good time being spoiled by not going. So he took his costume and away he went. The wife, after sleeping soundly for about an hour, awakened without pain and, as it was still early, decided to go the party. Since her husband did not know what her costume was, she thought she would have some fun by watching her husband to see how he acted when she was not with him. She joined the party and soon spotted her husband cavorting around on the dance floor, dancing with every nice woman he could, stealing a little feel here and a little kiss there. His wife sidled up to him and being a rather seductive babe herself, he left his current partner high and dry and devoted his time to the new babe that had just arrived. She let him go as far as he wished, naturally, since he was her husband. Finally, he whispered a little proposition in her ear and she agreed. So off they went to one of the cars and had a quickie. Just before unmasking at midnight, she slipped away, went home, put the costume away and got into bed, wondering what kind of explanation he would make for his behavior. She was sitting up reading when he came in, and she asked what kind of a time he had. He said, “Oh, the same old thing. You know I never have a good time when you’re not there.” “Did you dance much?” “I’ll tell you, I never even danced one dance. When I got there, I met Pete, Bill Brown and some other guys, so we went into the den and played poker all evening. But you’re not going to believe what happened to the guy I loaned my costume to....”

“I’m afraid not,” explains the exalted leader. “That’s what we would call a great loss.” The room goes silent. No other children volunteer. The president searches the room, “Isn’t there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?” Finally at the back of the room, little Johnny raises his hand. In a quiet voice he says, “If Air Force One carrying you was struck by a missle and blown to smithereens, that would be a tragedy.” “Fantastic!” exclaims President Obama, “That’s right. And can you tell me why that would be a tragedy?” “Well,” says the boy, “Because it sure as h#ll wouldn’t be a great loss and it probably wouldn’t be and accident either.”

race. On the big day, the Japanese won by a mile. The Americans, very discouraged and depressed, decided to investigate the reason for the crushing defeat. A management team made up of senior management was formed to investigate and recommend appropriate action. Their conclusion was the Japanese had 8 people rowing and 1 person steering, while the American team had 8 people steering and 1 person rowing. So, American management hired a consulting company and paid them a large amount of money for a second opinion. They advised that too many people were steering the boat, while not enough people were rowing. To prevent another loss to the Japanese, the rowing team’s management structure was totally reorganized to 4 steering supervisors, 3 area steering superintendents, and 1 assistant superintendent steering manager. They also implemented a new performance system that would give the 1 person rowing the boat greater incentive to work harder. It was called the “Rowing Team Quality First Program”, with meetings, dinners, and free pens for the rower. There was discussion of getting new paddles, canoes and other equipment, extra vacation days for practices, and bonuses. The next year the Japanese won by two miles. Humiliated, the American management laid off the rower for poor performance, halted development of a new canoe, sold the paddles, and canceled all capital investments in new equipment. The money saved was distributed to the Senior Executives as bonuses and the next year’s racing team was outsourced to India.

Barack Obama is visiting a primary school and he visits one of the classes. They are in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings. The teacher asks the President if he would like to lead the discussion of the word ‘tragedy.’ So the illustrious leader asks the class for an example of a tragedy. One little boy stands up and offers: “if my best friend who lives on a farm, is playing in the field and a runaway tractor comes along and knocks him dead, that would be a tragedy. “No,” says President Obama, “That would be an accident.” A little girl raises her hand: “If a school bus carrying 50 school children drove over a cliff, killing everyone inside, that would be a tragedy.”

There I was is sitting at the bar staring at my drink when a large, trouble-making biker steps up next to me, grabs my drink and gulps it down in one swig. “Well, what’cha gonna do about it?” he says, menacingly, as I burst into tears. “Come on, man,” the biker says, “I didn’t think you’d CRY. I can’t stand to see a man crying.” “This is the worst day of my life,” I say. “I’m a complete failure. I was late to a meeting and my boss fired me. When I went to the parking lot, I found my car had been stolen and I don’t have any insurance. I left my wallet in the cab I took home. I found my wife in bed with the gardener and then my dog bit me.” “So I came to this bar to work up the courage to put an end to it all, I buy a drink, I drop a capsule in and sit here watching the poison dissolve; then you, you jack-ass, show up and drink the whole thing! But enough about me, how’s your day going?” Maria, a maid, asks her boss for a raise. Her boss is annoyed and asks, “Now, Maria, why do you think you deserve a raise?” Maria: “Well, Señora, there are three reasons why I want an raise. First, I iron better than you.” Wife: “Who said you iron better than me?” Maria: “Your husband said so.” Wife: “Oh.” Maria: “The second reason is that I am a better cook than you.” Wife: “Nonsense, who said you were a better cook than me?” Maria: “Your husband did.” Wife: “Oh.” Maria: “My third reason is that I am a better lover than you.” The wife is obviously upset: “Did my husband say that?” Maria: “No, Señora, the gardener did.” Wife: “So, how much do you want?” A Japanese company and an American company decided to have a canoe race on the St. Lawrence River. Both teams practiced long and hard to reach their peak performance before the

A fleeing Taliban, desperate for water, was plodding through the Afghan desert when he saw something far off in the distance. Hoping to find water, he hurried toward the oasis, only to find a little old Jewish man at a small stand, selling ties. The Taliban asked ... “Do you have water?” The Jewish man replied, “I have no water. Would you like to buy a tie? They are only $5.” The Taliban shouted, “Idiot! I do not need an over-priced tie. I need water! I should kill you, but I must find water first!” “OK,” said the old Jewish man, “It does not matter that you do not want to buy a tie and that you hate me. I will show you that I am bigger than that. If you continue over that hill to the east for about two miles, you will find a lovely restaurant. It has all the ice-cold water you need. Shalom.” Muttering, the Taliban staggered away over the hill. Several hours later he staggered back, almost dead. “Your f#@ing brother won’t let me in without a tie!”

Horsefeathers Roadhouse 20th Anniversary Party Story and photo by Alan Dockery What a great way to start October, partying with friends for the Horsefeathers Roadhouse 20th Anniversary. Early that Saturday afternoon bikers started riding in for the party, some to hangout for a while, others just to have a beer and say hey, or get a slice of the tasty anniversary cake that Angel made. Parties at Horsefeathers Roadhouse are fun since you can walk around the place and join several mini-parties. There’s one group out front watching folks come and go, another hangin’ out round the beer tub, or those playing Giant Jenga. It must have been Shovelhead Saturday since there were several out-front to admire. Inside the bar was hopping and great food was being served. Love them Hawg Wings and brisket. You can even retreat to the game room and test your skills there. I like the big deck out back. Darren and Justin were strumming guitars and playing oldies that had us singing along. Horsefeathers T-shirts were available and a beer tub meant you

didn’t have to leave the deck for refreshment. That evening the party moved back inside. Dan Campbell and Josh Blacksnake played some more music for us. “Thanks to all our friends and customers for coming out

Have A Blessed And Safe Thanksgiving • Closed Thanksgiving Day Only to help us celebrate our twentieth anniversary,” said Tim Anderton, owner. “Horsefeathers is the oldest watering hole on Lake Norman. We are proud of it along with our excellent barbeque. I’m happy how well Horsefeathers has been received as a restaurant and bar, but also as a place to come and have a good time.” This cool old place was first built in 1955. Originally it was a grocery and sold gas. Through a couple owners it was mainly a convenience store with a beer bar and burger stand. The building was on the verge of being condemned when Tim and Sherry bought it in 1994. It took them two years to turn it into the place we love. The party marked the twentieth anniversary of opening as Horsefeathers Roadhouse. I hope y’all join me in saying thanks a bunch to Tim and Sherry for giving us such a cool place to ride to and an excellent poker run stop. “Horsefeathers was designed to be a hangout,” Tim said. “It’s set up for

people to come and enjoy themselves. Whether they are eating, drinking, playing games, or just socializing, that’s part of the concept and design.” Tim has plans to continue improving Horsefeathers. They have already upgraded the kitchen. He will be developing 236 feet on the cove to provide more room for us to relax by the lake and plans are working to add more parking. Horsefeathers is a unique place on a Lake Norman cove in the Southeast corner of Catawba County, about a mile North of Hwy 150. The food is great and comes from their smokehouse, which is the biggest in the area. With 24 beer taps you can try something new or have your old favorite. Horsefeathers is bigger than it looks with lots of room inside for your group to stop by or to host a party. Ride in on Sunday for the football games on TV. Checkout the new website HorsefeathersBBQ.com for calendar updates and menu specials.

Creekside Fall Bike Rally Story and Photo by Alan Dockery As another summer winds down, it’s great to spend a beautiful weekend hanging with your biker buddies sitting in the shade, sipping cold beer and telling stories about where we rode and partied this season. That was the scene for much of the weekend of September 16-18 at Creekside Fall Bike Rally. Hosted by the Southern Gentlemen MC and presented by Home Town Hawgs, the Creekside Rally is held on nice private country property, in Gaston County, NC, where bikers can be themselves for the weekend. This was a live music weekend with several bands lined up to play from Friday night on. Local favorites taking the stage included Peace Pipe, Sweatin’ Bullets, Chasing The Rain, Everfallen, and Slater Street Sinners. Hundreds of folks camped out for the weekend. Vendors lined one side of the field. Food and drinks were available under the trees. All day Saturday bikers continued riding in for the rally. Saturday afternoon we got into some bike games. Magic Mike won the slow ride. He partnered up with L.A. to take the Golf Biker Style game. Stephanie Hans was the Weenie Queen

riding with Special Ed. Creekside is such a cool site for a bike rally. It’s very private and a short ride from Charlotte, Hickory, Gastonia, Statesville, and other Carolina towns. Next year will be five years and I think they are planning both spring and fall rallies. Stop by Home Town Hawgs in Conover, NC, and ask Lucky about being a vendor or having your band play next year at Creekside.

Louie’s Goes Pink For Jennifer By: Trisha Beasley Louie’s was entirely packed on Sunday, September 18th, 2016. The event was held with all proceeds going to Jennifer Burt in her fight with cancer. Everyone in the place was adorned in their PINK and the crowd was numerous and overflowing. It was a good thing that the event was held on Sunday because all the parking was taken and bikers and cages were parked in all the surrounding local business’ parking lots. The inside of Louie’s was packed. The outside Backyard Jam area was even more packed. And, everyone was there to support Jennifer and her courageous fight! Jennifer was also there in all her “pink glory!” Pam Griffin, owner and operator of Louie’s, arranged a great

fundraiser with the help of her wonderful staff, of course! There were signs, flyers, Facebook posts, reminders and the entire club was covered in posters to remind everyone when it was to take place. It was certainly a shindig to remember! It was an honor to be a part of the festivities and assist in the joy and excitement of everyone involved. Pam Griffin herself worked all day long not to mention all the work she and her staff had already done to prepare for the major event in the weeks prior to

that actual day. Jennifer is one of the waitresses at Louie’s and everyone else showed up to work for pennies as everyone adores her, her smile, and her kindness. I have been to a number of benefits there in the past and Jennifer is always in the front of the line to buy a boatload of tickets for whatever the fundraiser is and especially when it involves her customers. I know this for a fact because she is so busy working; she often asks others to listen out for her ticket numbers. I have been one of the people that has done that for her in the past. And, the times that I have listened out for her ticket numbers she has won several prizes. Why you ask? Because I am telling you she buys several strands and strings of tickets for each raffle. This time was no different. She brought a string of tickets for each of the drawings, raffles, and 50/50. We were all so excited when she won the 50/50. So the entire pot went to her, which was pretty cool! Everyone stood and celebrated with her on the win. Of course other raffles, prizes and donations took place throughout the day. The prizes that were given away were numerous to say the least. The work of Pam Griffin, the bartenders, waitresses, friends and patrons yielded many prizes for those that came out to support Jennifer. There was also a silent auction and people gave and gave and were very pleased with their auction items. There were face painters that also did nails. Men and women took part in the pink nail detail, paid their money, and rocked the pink nails all day and night. There were so many bands that lit up the “Backyard Jams” stage the entire day and night. All graciously giving to a wonderful cause. They only took a few intermissions for ticket drawings, raffle items, and announcement of auction winners. The longest and most entertaining break was the one that was held with Jennifer at center stage where she received a number

of lap dances preformed for her by “The Men In Pink!” one after another, after another, and another and yet another until we all lost count! We were laughing at the “Men In Pink” as much as we were laughing at the “PINK” of Jennifer’s rosie red cheeks! They all came up on stage with clenched dollar bills in hand to humbly give to Jennifer for allowing them the privilege to dance for her. It was quite the view but Jennifer had the best view of all; the entire span around her chair and each one ended up in her lap to perform some special moves of their own! There was definitely some rump shaking going down up on the Backyard Jams stage that day! Louie’s Sports Bar was packed from start to finish and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time celebrating with Jennifer, Pam and the entire staff. Laughter was in the air the entire day and evening. Everyone was more than honored to take part in the benefit for such a fantastic person. Louie’s is still willing to accept donations for Jennifer’s cause, so if you get a chance to drop in, drop a few dollars in the tip jar dedicated in her honor that’s there. Godspeed in her recovery process! Much love from all your family and friends!

Hometown Harley Swap Meet

By: Johnny Reb Wow, what a weekend we had here in Eastern NC! There were things for bikers going on all over the place! Well, when I get an invite from my friends at Hometown Harley-Davidson, you know that that Black WASP and I are going to be there! I really love visiting them. I didn’t get there quite as early as I had hoped, because of the previous nights, ah, well lets just say celebration, but more on that for another article! We did pull in around 1030, and the bikes were lined up and a bunch of bikers were milling around, checking out some great deals under the tent. I even picked up a cool fender for another project I have waiting in the wings. I went inside the showroom and saw my buddy Chris Riley handing out raffle tickets for some very nice prizes. The place was hopping with everybody checking out the new Milwaukee 8 engine on the 2017’s. I heard that a few deals were done that day, and some pretty happy folks were leaving on new bikes. After checking out my friends in MotorClothes, Dakota and Tammy, who were really busy with some great deals of their own going on, I wandered over to parts and talked with Eddie, who ordered me some new tank badges for the BLACK WASP. By now I heard that there might be some free food outside, and brother, I only need to hear that once! Outside the grill was fired up and free burgers and hot dogs

were being served. I chowed down, and that was good to me! Having a few more places to visit, I couldn’t hang out quite as long as I would have liked, but sometimes that is just the way it goes. I want to thank the awesome folks at Hometown Harley-Davidson of Winterville, NC for a great time. People, if you are looking for a new or used bike, or in need of parts or service (see Clutch), please check my friends out at Hometown Harley, tell ‘em Johnny Reb sent you!

The Cross

Bros & Bro-ettes What do you think the cross means? What does it mean to you? Jesus Christ went to the cross first for us. All we have to do is except the fact He paid for our sins on the cross. Take up our cross and follow Him is our promise that He died for us and trust in it everyday. Look at the cross the way it is, and then turn it upside down and it looks like a sword. His Word is given to us in the form of the Bible. We need to know that He went to the cross for ALL of us, not just a few. All you have to do is except Him into your heart to receive forgiveness of your sins. Some may think that if you wear a cross around your neck and go to church that you will get into Heaven. Wrong! It will not get you into Heaven. We have to be saved and have a personal relationship with Him. Luke 9:23 “Then He said to them all. If anyone desires to come after Me let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.” Matthew 10:38 “And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.” Not sure if you’re saved and want to make sure? Just say the Biker’s Prayer and except and believe and live it. In His Wind Ms. Pat
