ctober is one of my favorite months to ride. The air is crisp and cool and the motorcycle loves that, too. The changing colors of the leaves create a giant distraction that is hard to take your eyes off of them. The air smells different. Like damp leaves. The sunsets and the moon seem to be spectacular in October. Can you tell that I like it? Well, you know that The Carolinas’ Full Throttle magazine is all about riding and there are some great events to ride to this month. The South Carolina ABATE helmet Law Support Rally is on October 1st. ABATE (A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments) of SC has a strong lobby team and has earned the respect of the SC legislators, but they know that they need to remain vigilant lest they lose their right to ride free. They have been a helmet free state since June of 1980. Join them in their show of solidarity and help to have your voice heard in government. October 2-8 is Fall Bike Week / Hurricane Alley Rally in Myrtle Beach. Some like it better than the spring rally because it is not quite as crowded. It is still a good place to have a two-wheeled fun time with friends. October 12-15 is the 26th Annual All Harley Jim McClure Nitro Nationals at Rockingham Dragway. If you love the smell of Nitro Methane or if you have never seen a Harley make a 200+ mph pass, you gotta be there! On OCTOBER 14TH, THE CAROLINAS’ FULL THROTTLE MAGAZINE BIKE SHOW will be at Ted’s Kickin’ Chicken 4695 s. Main Street in Winston-Salem, NC. This is a rescheduled event due to bad weather on the original date. Registration begins at 12 noon and judging will be at 3pm. There is no entry fee and there is a $250 cash prize for People’s Choice and Editor’s Choice, plus a feature in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. The Honkytonk Outlaws are scheduled to provide live music. They are pretty damn good! If you have ever been to one of our parties, you know what to expect. See the ad in this issue. The 25th Annual Biketoberfest is held in Daytona Beach, FL October 19-22 (www.OfficialBikeWeek.com) and then there are all Halloween events! There are gobs of choices. Trick or Treat!? Check out The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar, the biggest motorcycle event calendar available anywhere, and have a great month riding in the Carolinas. Who loves ya, baby?

Welcome Back My Friends To The Show That Never Ends… We’re So Glad You Could Attend, Come Inside, Come Inside…
Yup, it’s that time again folks. Time for the Concerned Bikers Association Fall Bike Show & Swap Meet. Tilley’s H-D, with two great dealership locations, is sponsoring our show again at the Rowan County Fairgrounds, Salisbury, NC. This new venue has really worked out well for us. Vendors and spectators alike are pleased with it. We are still tweaking things, including the parking lots to make more parking for motorcycles. Come out and see Luke Heafner’s ‘52 Panhead which is featured in Easy Riders Magazine. Dano Simmons from South Main Street Customs, Kannapolis, will also have at least one of his drag/ tractor pull trikes on display. Brothers and Sisters, bring your bikes to the show for a chance at $1,000 cash and trophies. We have 12 classes to be judged. The People’s Choice bike show winner has a chance of being on our next show flyers, the front cover of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine, and featured in Bob Karney’s Motorcycle Calendar. There will be gifts and prizes given away all during each day. Hang on to your tickets to claim your prize. We will have wet t-shirt contests both days with $500 in cash prizes. For your entertainment, we’ve added a Ladies Best Buns Contest and we are bringing back the tattoo contest. Come on out and you can find new and used motorcycles for sale. You can find motorcycle parts new and used and chrome parts for your bike. You can find motorcycles clothes, jewelry, and accessories while enjoying great food, beverages, live music, and an old fashioned good time. I have never seen as many used parts in the midway and going out the back gate as I did at our
Spring Show. So, if you need any used or antique parts, you should be able to find them at our show. We want to remind you that when you attend our show, or any CBA event across the state, all the money stays in North Carolina and is used to promote our sport and lifestyle and to be your eyes and voice in Raleigh and Washington, DC. We try to keep you informed of legislation that affects us as bikers. We talk to legislators and let them know how we feel. We fight against some legislation and also help introduce some favorable legislation. You need CBA and CBA needs you. We need a united motorcycle organization to have more impact with the Legislators. Remember, “United we stand, Divided we fall”. Join our/your organization now! We will be having a membership drive at our show. You can join CBA for the low, low cost of $10 and help us represent you in Raleigh. Charlotte CBA has fun and goes on runs and to events as a group. If you would like to join us, we meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of every month at the Iron Thunder Saloon meeting room, Concord Mills. We will have a membership booth at the Swap Meet, also. Come out to our show on November 11-12, 2017 and support the CBA, our vendors, and our sponsors so that we can keep giving you the biggest, best, and oldest Bike Show and Swap Meet on the East Coast. Check us out at CharlotteCBA. org. See ya at the Swap Meet…. Rowan County Fairgrounds, Exit 74 off I-85, Julian Road, Salisbury, NC. RIDE SAFE & RIDE FREE!!!! Rick

Thunder In The Smokies Fall Motorcycle Rally
By: WildThing Mother Nature certainly smiled on this rally. The weather was perfect, even though there were storms raging in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. We were high and dry in the Smoky Mountains with sunshine, nice breezes, and temps in the high 70’s on the weekend of September 8-10. The evenings were mountain cool, but the music was hot in the Festival Grounds at the Thunder in The Smokies Rally. Friday evening started out with Tony Ballew and Free Flight at 5:30. The vendor tents surrounding the perimeter of the Festival Grounds were lit up and open for business when we rolled in, and the vendors were thankful for the excellent weather. At 7:30 Southern Rebellion from Tennessee took the stage and were cranking out great country tunes. At the band breaks, LaSanta Damiana, costumed like an Arabian princess, performed an intriguing fire dance. She captured the crowd’s attention while seemingly swallowing fire, spitting fire, and dancing with flaming torches. The final band of the evening was Fairview Union, another country group out of Tennessee that WOWed the crowd with The evenings were their fast-paced style. Saturday is wide open mountain cool, but with the gates opening at 9 the music was hot in and the line of motorcycles the Festival Grounds stringing out to the street at the Thunder in The waiting to get in. Every Smokies Rally. bike that comes through the gate gets a ticket to vote in the people’s choice bike show. The vendors are open all day until up in the evening and there were several food vendors to complement the cold beverages available at the beer tent and at the bar. The line-up for the tour ride is at 10 am. They usually ride up to the Blue Ridge Parkway for some incredible views, but be sure to wear your leather as it is a lot cooler on the mountaintops than the valley! Cash prizes, sponsored by Tom McGrath Motorcycle Law Group, usually brings a variety of cool motorcycles to the bike show, and this year was no exception. About 30 bikes answered Lori’s call to line up in front of the music stage. The roar of the motors and sparkle of chrome lured folks over to vote for their favorite. Everyone riding through the gate that morning received a ticket with the instruction to place their voting ticket in the upturned helmet beside the bike of their
choice. Lori made several ‘last calls’ for votes before she was satisfied they everyone had the chance to vote, then she sent her girls around to count tickets in the helmets. There were so many cool rides, I’m sure some folks had trouble deciding. Some entries, who noticed they didn’t receive many votes, had begun to leave. It didn’t take the girls long to count and soon the winners were announced. Third place, for $200 was Todd ‘Weirdo’ Wooldridge from Riceville, TN for his American flag painted motorcycle tribute to our military. Todd has had his bike in this show a few times in the past and always draws a crowd. Second place, for $300 went to Manny Rubiera from Sandersville, GA for his 2010 frame off restoration black and copper bobber. It was quite unique with lots of innovative touches. It really wasn’t a surprise to me who garnered the most votes. I was sure that ‘Bob’ the white pit bull got the most votes for his master’s ride: a custom-built side car rig made from a whiskey barrel with copper fittings attached to a ’95 Honda. Congrats and $500 went to James Hatfield of Maggie Valley! Soon, it was time for the bike games to begin. Again, with cash prizes sponsored by Law 4 Veterans, the contestants were lining up for the slow race. There is usually a large crowd of onlookers for the bike games and this fall the audience was offered chairs to rent for $2 so they didn’t have to stand or sit on the grass. Good call, Lori! Also, Chris was enthroned on a 10’ tall scaffold to emcee the games, a perch to relieve him of standing for long periods as well as giving him a bird’s eye view of the contests. After the slow race came the TP and plunger relay, the weinee bite, and the can in the haystack version of musical chairs. Most of you readers have probably seen variations of these

games, but the last game was a new one born out of the fertile imagination of Chris! Guys had to put on a grass skirt and lei, race down the field to waiting coconuts and rubber hammers. They were challenged to break open the coconut with the hammer, pour at least ½ cup of milk into a paper cup and race back down the field to win. First thing that happened the cheap Chinese hammers broke and half of the contestants had to use the handle to try and open the coconut, amid the laughter of the spectators! Kinda like you had to be there for that one. In the end, the registered couples that scored points ended up in a tie for second and Chris had them compete in a couple’s slow race. First and second in the field took home second and third place cash. Everyone had a lot of fun competing and spectating! The last event of the afternoon was the 50/50. There was a lot of last minute challenges to make the split $500 and several came forward to donate $100 bills after Chris’ challenge to
17
donate. This 50/50 is always run by the local chapter of Vietnam Veterans and the proceeds are used throughout the year to assist local disabled vets and at Christmas for local needy children. John from Cookeville, TN, the BBQ vendor won the 50/50, but the Vets were the real winner and got more than 50% due to the extra donations. Mark and I left to get some supper with our local Full Throttle rep, Christian and his wife Julie, with every intention of returning for the evening concerts. However, our 1973 ServiCar had a different idea – she wouldn’t start at the restaurant after dinner! We had to miss the great line-up of Jody Medford, Fire Performer LaSanta Damiana, and the much-anticipated Southern Halo. I’m sure it was a wonderful evening and very sorry to have missed out. However, we are looking forward to next year’s dates with Handlebar Corral promoting Thunder in the Smokies kickoff rally in May 2018. And folks, don’t forget to attend their Sunday morning pancake breakfast, church service, music, and vendors before you head home.

Shelton’s Harley-Davidson Open House By: Johnny Reb Shelton’s Harley-Davidson had an awesome open house on September 9th. I pulled in and saw the place full of customers and potential customers. Deals being done and everyone checking out the fantastic 2018 Harley lineup. If you have not had a chance to check out these beautiful machines, then you need to jump on that worn-out scoot and head to Goldsboro and go to Shelton’s Harley-Davidson. Chris is a volunteer fireman and this money will help him and his family. I hung out for a while and was really taken with an old 2003 Softail Springer. This bike was so clean and the price, let’s just say it was a heck of a deal! It was then I started walking around checking out the prices on their used inventory, and Wow! Great prices. Well, needless to say, I figured I had to leave before I made my wife, Attitude, mad by riding home on a new bike! Children’s Advocacy Center Poker Run By CVHOG Story and photo by Alan Dockery The Catawba Valley Harley Owners Group ended August with their annual poker run to support the Children’s Advocacy and Protection Center of Catawba County. The weather was beautiful and lots of riders turned out for the cause. The Children’s Advocacy Center’s purpose is to build a community dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect while also coordinating responses to cases. They empower people through training and education, It was a long day, coordinate responses but worth every and reduce victim minute knowing it trauma. was for the children. Billy Dagenhart, CVHOG director, summed up the run, “What a day for our yearly charity Children’s Advocacy and Protection Center of Catawba County. The weather is perfect, volunteers are in place, electricity is in the air in anticipation of the day ahead, and we were ready. The line began to build at 9:45 and kept going. Within the first hour we had exceeded last year’s total and ended up with 156 caring individuals participating in the event. It was a long day, but worth every minute knowing it was for the children. That’s why we’re all here.” Besides the poker run, there were several tables of auction items, T-shirts sales, door prizes, and more that helped yield a generous donation to Children’s Advocacy and Protection Center of Catawba County exceeding all previous years’ totals. Stan Panoutsos had the winning hand while Donna Reidlinger
held the worst. “We want to thank Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson, Jay and Kim from Hwy 55 Burgers Shakes & Fries, The Fabulous Thunder Brothers, 16/90 T’ville Scoops, our Catawba Valley Harley Owners Group #4252 of Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson chapter members for participating, all of our t-shirt sponsors, all of those who donated door prizes, and especially our volunteers and Kim Bumgarner. Without each and every one of these groups and individuals we could not have had the success that we had. Also, a special thanks to “Buffalo” Cameron of BACA for donating his 50/50 winnings back to CA,” Billy said. “From Catawba Valley Harley Owners Group, thanks again for making a difference.”

The 8th Annual Eagle Riders Dean Ferris Memorial Ride By: Jerry Shelton August 19, 2017 was a beautiful day for a ride and we all gathered at Thunder Road HarleyDavidson for a fun time. Registration was 11 till 12:45 with KSU at 1 pm. city for the first poker hand drawing, cold water, and a little socializing. Next was an old country store called Paul’s Place for our second poker hand drawing. They probably had never seen so many bikes on their lot, but they made us feel at home for about 15 minutes. Then we were on to our third and last stop, a local Fire Department at Little Turbeville, known for their famous cantaloupes. After another 20 minutes of drawing cards and shooting the bull we headed on to our final stop, the Eagles club. Upon arriving we were greeted by 15 to 20 members lined up on the highway waving American flags to greet us. Everybody was ready to get inside and cool off and eat BBQ, baked beans, and homemade slaw and get something cold to drink. With everybody fed and the last poker card drawn, it was time to move on to the auction and our auctioneer was just arriving. We timed it just right. The auction turned out great and three 9’s won the poker hand. Door prizes where given out and by this time the Old School Band was warming up to entertain those who choose to stay for the evening. All in all, it was a great day. We all made it safely through the activities of the day, ate good, had fun. For all our work, starting back in May, we earned a whopping $27,222.56 for the Danville Pittsylvania Cancer Association. We are so thankful to all our workers, donors, sponsors, and the Good Lord for making it all a success. Until next, year ride safe my friends.

Benefit For Eddy And Diane Merritt
By: Rose and Lloyd When bikers go to a benefit, whether it be Toys For Tots, Wounded Warriors, Brenner Children’s Hospital, Mills Home, or many other events, they know where and who they are helping. Almost every weekend, here are a lot of benefits for a family or an individual, and the bikers come out and show their support, sometimes not even knowing the person or family, but still willing to help the cause. The benefit on August 19th at at Double D’s Burnout Saloon was for Eddy and Diane Merritt. Many who attended knew them, and many just heard of the need. I did not personally know Eddy and Diane, but those that did loved them dearly, and had wonderful things I would like to share with you. Cathy Gavel, a neighbor, said when she moved in her house in 1999, she was blessed to have a young couple, the Merritts, as neighbors. They quickly became friends, riding together, boating, or just hanging out having a beer. Eddy was always there for her, her husband, and her son. He always had an open ear or a shoulder if you needed

for everyone. He was always just a phone call away. In March, 3 years ago, during an ice storm and power outages, he went to every neighbor to see they were OK, and if they needed anything.
I looked for you this morning. Going out in a run. I looked next door. I looked for a wave, I listened for a “whatcha doing, girlie?” I looked for you at the garage. I looked for you, washing cars, I looked for you taking the girls out. I looked for you this morning. By: Megan Godwin Another good friend, Tony “Mad Dog” King met Eddy and Diane at Lucky’s Saloon in Burlington a few years ago. They became friends or as “Mad Dog” says, they were family. They began to spend a lot of time riding together. Eddy even called him dad. When “Mad Dog” saw the extent of the hospital stay after Eddy had accident on July 1st, he just said “Benefit” and that was all it took. The benefit was held August 19th at Double D’s Burnout Saloon. People came with donation of all kinds, food, antiques, large screen TV’s, way too much to list it all, but all was greatly appreciated.

The crowd just kept coming. enjoying the music, 50/50 raffles, auction, and food for $10 a plate. There was a blessing, and the food was served. To everyone’s surprise, the food was gone by 3:30, but more people continued to donate. There was a bucket setup at the stage, and when a donation was made, you rang the bell. The bucket raised about $7000, earning Eddy a lot of wings. David Thompson and “Mad Dog” held the auction and the raffles. The tears flowed when “Mad Dog” auctioned off a bar stool which was beautifully painted by his deceased wife. The stool sold to Gator for $450, but he turned around and gave back to “Mad Dog”. The benefit raised over $20,000. What a huge success and show of love and compassion. There were so many that were involved, it would be impossible to name everyone. You know who you are and that you are greatly appreciated. Eddy had been involved in so many benefits, and helping so many in so many ways. He lived life to the fullest. Eddy left this world on August 24th. Diane Merritt said, “My Hero is now my Angel! I’m the luckiest and blessed woman that was able to have her soul mate, that loved me for me with his tender, wonderful, unselfish, and nonjudgmental heart. His love for all of us has changed the world!”

Red Knights NC13 Presents The 2nd Annual 9/11 Ride By: Jason Mullins The 2nd Annual 9/11 Ride that Red Knights NC13 put sponsored was a nice ride. We had 20 bikes, 15 Fire and Rescue Departments and about 70 people attend. The ride started at Shepherds Fire and Rescue on Charlotte Highway in Mooresville with Mount Mourne Fire Department with their ladder truck with an American flag flying high. The ride was escorted by the Iredell County Sherriff’s office and SheffieldCalahaln Fire QRV. The ride went thru Iredell County. Fire departments along the route shut down intersections to allow the ride to cruise straight thru. Once in the city of Statesville, the police department picked up the ride and took us through town. Trinity Fire Department set up their ladder truck in front of their station over Hwy 115 for the riders to pass under. Once at the end of the ride, North Iredell Rescue shut down the road and the bikes turned into Union Grove Fire

Camel City Bikefest 2.0 By: Buzz The inaugural Camel City Bikefest exploded into downtown Winston-Salem last year and left a permanent mark. This year’s event was killer as well. The leader of Biker Trash Nation, Wayne Pinnix, and First Lady, Vandee Gilbert, have proven that they know how to throw a biker party. At 11am on Saturday, September 9th the streets of Downtown Winston-Salem were being flooded with bikers looking to have a good time. The Camel City Bikefest, Sponsored by Smokin’ Harley-Davidson, had Liberty Street blocked off for 2 blocks of vendors, bikes, and good clean biker fun! The event kicked off with BTN’s Battle Of The Bands winner, The Adam Hill Band, rocking from the Ted’s Kickin’ Chicken stage at the center of

the event. The bands played throughout the day and included local favorites like Eyecon, Soapbox Arson, and Honkytonk Outlaws. In between bands, Wayne took the stage to conduct the Pinup Contest, sponsored by Irvin Roberts Day Salon. Biker Trash Nation held pinup contests all around the Triad leading up to the Camel City Bikefest and had enough hot pin-up girls to run 3 rounds of the contest and give the crowd plenty to cheer about. In the final round the top 3 ladies took the stage in their finest pin-up outfits to endure a question and answer routine that was judged by a panel of beauties led by the First Lady, Vandee Gilbert. Their answers would also have to “WOW” the crowd. Carefully selected questions for the contestants ranged from “What your WWF wrestling name would be” to questions whether you would “Rather drink Wine, Water or Whiskey”. The questions and answers kept the crowd cheering and laughing throughout the contest. After much deliberating from the In between contests, panel of the street was a swarm judges, Vandee took the stage to deliver of awesome bikes and “The hardest decision their riders. she had to make”. Kandi Bise, representing Ted’s Kickin’ Chicken, was crowned the first ever Miss Camel City by a winning margin of 1 point! Not to worry guys, there was a best beard competition sponsored by Ardmore Barbershop for all the manly men in attendance. Some well pampered facial hair was paraded across the stage, but let’s be real, we would rather look at more pinup girls! After much fluffing and judging, Terry Williams left the stage with full honors as beard king, a kingly crown adorning his new title and most importantly, the $350 cash prize. In between contests, the street was a swarm of awesome bikes and their riders. The vendors had plenty of awesome items to buy and you could even get a Biker Trash Nation or Camel City Bikefest Tattoo from the artists at Tattoo Therapy who were onsite doing their thing. gers. There was a sound competition to show off the might of the sound system on the bikes and, of course, a bike show to award the winners all the way from Best Paint to Best In Show. Radical Randy has done this a time or two and really conducts a great bike show. There was a table full of plaques and trophies that were handed out to the various winners. The big trophy for Best Of Show went to Joey Hensley of Back Yard Baggers. After the bike show awards and the pinup contest were concluded, the party raged on into the night. Soapbox Arson, Honkytonk Outlaws were scheduled to keep the party going and the night was headlined by Thunderstruck, “America’s AC/DC tribute band”. One thing is for sure, Camel City Bikefest 2.0 was another success for Biker Trash Nation. Riders’ Roost Luau Party Story and photo by Alan Dockery After a long hot Summer, the best way to chill out for Labor Day Weekend is head up to the mountains for an End Of Summer Luau at Riders’ Roost in Ferguson, NC. I rolled in Saturday morning as the front was moving through and promising a beautiful weekend. The Roost was filling up with tents and bikes as people rode in from across the region. It looked like a good crowd was forming for a big party weekend. Lots of my friends were there from Old Roosters to new folks who will be coming back for more Roost Time. I spent a lazy afternoon just visiting with folks and feeding worms to the fish in my favorite creek. Kinda banged up the old body this Summer so stayed out of the water. Teresa and Bo were serious about fishing that weekend and hauled some real nice bass out of that chilly water.
As it got dark it was time to get Saturday night’s party in gear. Deacon Black rocks! The well-known local band came ready to rock the roost with great tunes and their own light show. Charlie had a nice fire going, the sky was clear and starry, and my beer was real cold. Nice night. Since I didn’t feel like a creek day, I wanted to check out

a fun road nearby that I had just heard about. A couple of the founding brothers told me about some tight twisties they found. So I led a handful of bikers for an exploratory trip over a mountain none of us had seen before. No, it ain’t like some places I’ve taken y’all where it turns into gravel, washboard, and holes. This was good pavement and miles of second and third gear curves. Lots of fun sweepers, whoop-de-doos, roller coasters and dive bombs. And yes, I maintained my reputation for always getting lost by missing a turn close to The Roost where I know the roads. By next year’s riding season, we’ll have The Rooster’s Comb mapped out. I have new tires and brakes on the CB900, those carbs love cool air, so I want to make one more pass this season before the leaves fall. We got back in time to start smelling the food cooking for the Luau. Instead of roasting a whole pig this year, the menu was a variety of Hawaiian-style foods. Dave and the boys were grilling chicken and slabs of ribs on the open pit. Butts were roasting in a contraption called The Cajun Microwave. I hadn’t seen one of those since my days on the bayou. Pam and the Kitchen Crew pulled it all together for as great a Luau Supper as we’ve had. If you are thinking about hosting an event at Riders’ Roost, keep in the mind the great outdoor kitchen they have now. As the day wound down, it was Luau Party Time. We spent the rest of the evening singing and dancing in the pavilion.

9th Annual Jace Man Run By: Wally Wersching On Friday, August 15th and Saturday August 26th, The Cleveland County Independent Bikers (CCIB) and the Concerned Bikers Association CBA/ABATE of Cleveland County were sponsoring the 9th Annual Jace Man Run at CCIB’s Land at 1596 Racepath Church Road in Mooresboro, NC. In August of 2007, Wendy Panther’s five-monthold nephew, Jace, fell victim to abuse, and lost his life. Because of this, Wendy and her husband, Spanky, created the Jace Man Run to raise money for the Abuse Prevention Council (APC). Tragically on September 7, 2012, at only 51 years of age, Wendy suddenly died from an accident at home. She loved children, and put her heart and soul into raising money to put an end to child abuse. This year’s Jace Man Run was bigger than ever with live music by The Blacktop Burnouts on Friday night, and The Ricker Pickers on Saturday night. Saturday at 3 pm, a live auction, 50/50 drawing, bike games, door prizes, food, and more began. The Poker Run was on Saturday with groups leaving the CCIB Land at 10 and 11 am. Individuals could start the run at any time with the last bike in by 2:00PM. The stops on the run were: East Coast Cycles in Forest City, The Shelby VFW, The Windjammers’ Club House in Shelby, The CCIB Clubhouse in Shelby, and the last card was drawn back at CCIB’s Land in Mooresboro. All proceeds go to the Abuse Prevention Council (APC) to help stop child abuse in Cleveland County. I arrived a little before 10 am, and was surprised by The chrome and paint the land that the CCIB had. on the motorcycles The campers around the was gleaming in the outer edge of the property morning sun, and the under the trees belonged to CCIB club members. It had everything needed to hold a biker event or have a weekend of fun with fellow club members – even a bandstand. I was told that the nearest neighbor was very friendly with the club. I met a few friends at the event. Most were getting ready to leave on the 10 am run. They were lining up to go as a group. The chrome and paint on the motorcycles was gleaming in the

morning sun, and the morning silence was now a mighty roar of the bikes’ exhaust. Within a minute or two, they were all off on their way to the first stop. Overall, there were over a hundred who participated in the actual Jace Man Run but there were many more who contributed. The list of sponsors on the back of the t-shirt was well over a hundred including most of the local businesses, motorcycle clubs, and many individual citizens, too. The whole endeavor rose over $27,000 for the Abuse Prevention Council. It was a team effort of everybody working together that made it what it was. They are already planning for next year’s run which will be bigger and better than this years’. **NEW THIS YEAR:: Jaceman Breakfast Buffet, August 26, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at the VFW Post 4066, Shelby, NC. $8.00/plate. The VFW is the first stop on the poker run that day from The Land, so come on out to the VFW and have yourself a great homemade breakfast. It’s for a great cause. I’ll be there and you should be, too.

Tuckahoe MC 29th Anniversary Party By: Johnny Reb Hey everyone, Johnny Reb here. Sorry it’s been so long since my last story, but I am back with a really great one this time! Tuckahoe MC has been going strong for 29 years and this party to celebrate this milestone was a frigging blast! All I can say is, “If this is how y’all do 29, holy hell, I can’t wait to see the 30th!” I pulled in to the clubhouse around 1330 on 19 August 2017 and it was raining like hell, but if you think that slowed the party down, you would be pure wrong. Everyone was hanging out and catching up with old friends and making new ones. I climbed off my bike and walked in, and there was the P of Tuckahoe MC, Bam Bam. I introduced myself to him and we talked about the club. These brothers are known throughout the MC community for throwing the best party around and they sure didn’t disappoint this year. When you put a couple of huge grills in front of a guy from East Texas, brother you are in for a treat. They grilled rib eyes, not steaks, the whole damn roasts! If that’s not enough, then they

slice it off and put it in a skillet and give it to you just how you want it. Sausages, pork, beef. Okay, so you think, “Damn! That was really something!” Yeah, well, they ain’t done yet. They also cooked 20 deep fried turkeys! Like I said, their parties are legendary! OK, so food isn’t your bag, well little campers, the brothers had two places set up for adult beverages. Big fun, no waiting! I was hanging out watching the band Rebel Son setting up the huge stage for the upcoming concert! There were MCs rolling in at When you put a a constant pace. It just couple of huge grills shows how big this really is, not sure of the official in front of a guy from count but I’ll bet in the East Texas, brother end it was at least 500 or you are in for a treat. 600 people. I stayed about 4 hours and talked to a bunch of people even with the constant rain, it was just a great time. I was in the clubhouse partaking in a cold beverage and I met a brother from the Wingmen MC and you are not gonna believe this. We started talking about the old days, (this is what us old gray beards do, you know) and we knew the same people from a club up in Maine! Here we are 1300 miles from a small town in Maine and we meet up! I was blown away when he said he was friends with the man who taught me everything about being a real biker, not some yuppie wannabe. Back in the ancient times known as the 70s there was a club in New England called the NSKK, and this the brother I’m

talking to used to be in the club, so we knew all the same old guys from back in the day. That was just awesome to relive those days, even for just a few minutes. Thanks, Tom, stay in touch, bro. Well, I will wrap this up and I just want to say, Tuckahoe MC, y’all are a class act. Thank you for the hospitality and I will definitely see you next year for the 30th. Here now once again is the list of MCs in attendance and as always, if I missed you no disrespect intended. Pagans MC, Southern Mayhem MC, Untamed Rebels MC, Forgotten Sons MC, Wingmen MC, Rough Riders MC, Deadheadz MC, Boozefighters MC, Leathernecks MC, Legacy Vets MC, Fourtold Horsemen MC, Steel Sons MC, Combat Vets MC, War Vets MC, Hard Corp MC, Militia MC, Sin City Disciples MC, and Bikers For Christ MM.

NHRA Carolina Nationals At zMAX Dragway Story and photo by Alan Dockery The National Hot Rod Association has its own championship chase and kicked it off during the Carolina Nationals September 16th at zMAX Dragway, Concord, NC. Eighteen Pro Stock Motorcycles were at the dragstrip north of Charlotte running hard to make the 16-bike field. I saw lots of y’all long-time motorcycle drag race fans enjoying a beautiful day at the finest dragstrip in the country. Four racers repreEvery ticket sented the Carolinas. is a pit pass. Matt and Angie Smith from King, NC, are real popular with the fans. Matt was looking great on the new Victory and Angie running well on the old Buell. Chip Ellis, China Grove, NC, is a long-time fan favorite and won last year. Melissa Surber, Mooresville, NC, is a rising star in Pro Stock Motorcycle. The other stars were there hanging out with fans and putting on a great show. Plus, I saw several riders y’all know from the Harley Drags and other series there helping teams. Pro Stock Motorcycle is a great class in many ways. Fans
who have followed motorcycle drags for years will see racers they have cheered down the strip many times. And there are young men and women there hoping to be the future stars. You can cheer for Harleys, Buells, Victorys, and Suzukis. The Carolina racers went out early. This weekend the Harley-Davidson team was hot. Both teams qualified at the top of the ladder. Andrew Hines for the win. There are so many things that make an NHRA race such a great fan event. Every ticket is a pit pass. At NHRA races the fans can walk the pits any time during the weekend. You can watch race teams work on the bikes or cars. The riders and drivers eagerly talk to fans and pose for photos. Harley-Davidson always has a huge display of their new motorcycles. I dig the cut-away of the new Milwaukee Eight engine. Saturday just before second round qualifying, a group of U.S. Army recruits took the oath of enlistment in front of the tower. This old U.S.A.F. Master Sergeant proudly saluted them. Lots of women ride motorcycles these days and if y’all want to cheer women racers then come to the drag strip. A quarter of the Pro Stock Motorcycle field was not guys. The pro classes get the attention, but zMAX was covered in hundreds of acres of all kinds of drag cars. If you are a Southerner and love Pro Mod you should have been there. I love to walk the sportsman pits and check out the old muscle cars that are still raced often. When your kid sees others running junior dragsters, you might have a new Winter project to build. NHRA comes to the Carolinas twice a year for the famous Four-Wide in the Spring and the Carolina Nationals. Y’all come on out and cheer on our local teams.

The Marion Moose Riders Bike Show By: Wally Wersching On Saturday September 2nd, the Marion Moose Riders held their 13th Annual Bike Show at the Marion Moose Family Center next to Lake James. I went last year, and enjoyed myself so I wanted to go again this year. A “Marion Moose Rider” is not someone riding around Marion, NC on a moose. He (or she) is part of the motorcycle riding group of Marion Moose Lodge The weather #1705 which is part of the Loyal Order of kept many Moose. people away. The website said that it would all start with breakfast at 9AM, and the bike show registration would start at 10AM. There would be bike games all through the day, with door prizes, and delicious food. They were also raffling off a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. At about 9:45AM, I headed north on Rte. 226. The skies were partly cloudy, and the temp was cool – the lower 70’s. I was glad that I wore the liner in my mesh motorcycle jacket. As I got closer to Marion, the clouds were much more ominous and dark. There were a few drops hitting my windshield but not enough to dampen my spirits. The road was wet because it had rained recently. I turned right onto Rte. 221. The sign on the bank said it was 62º – chilly for an early September morning. I continued all the way into Marion, On the east side of Marion, I followed the signs to the Moose Family Center. Because I wasn’t entering “Miss Vickie” in the show, I parked on the side – away from the show bikes. I walked to the registration table, and asked for the person in charge. I had brought the October 2016 issue of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine to give to the Moose Riders. In it was my article
about last year’s event on page 39. I gave it to the woman in charge, and she hadn’t seen it before. She was pleased, and thanked me for writing it, and bringing it for them to read. The DJ was playing great tunes all day. It was just loud enough to hear and enjoy without making everybody yell to be heard over the music. I walked around, and took a few pictures. There were not many bikes in the show. The weather kept many people away. The ones who were there were wiping the rain water from their bikes. A young man rode up on his motorized bicycle. I was intrigued, and asked him about it. One of his friends makes them from regular bicycles. His bike will go about 35 mph. That would be fun but the brakes were not upgraded. He’s still stopping by clamping the rubber brakes against the rim of the wheel. I’d hate to try to stop it in an emergency. Then it was noon, and the food was being served. Almost instantly, a line formed. The food smelled good, and from what I could see, it looked good, too. This year the Moose Riders were raffling off a 1992 Harley FXDB Daytona – a real classic. In 1992, a tribute was paid to the 50th Anniversary of the Daytona meet which was dressed in bright shades with a traditional level of chrome trim, and boasted Harley’s first true pearl paint job. On the tank was a special decal announcing the 50th Anniversary as taking place in March of 1991. Production was limited to 1,700 Daytonas. I didn’t need another bike (not even a classic), but I bought a raffle ticket anyway. It was for a good cause – The Needy Kids Christmas Fund. It was an enjoyable, and dry, ride home. I will definitely go again next year. It was fun, and a great way to spend a Saturday.

7th Annual Jacob’s Run
By: Johnny Reb It’s hard to believe but that’s it, the last year of Jacob’s Run. September 16, 2017, we made the last ride to Hometown Harley-Davidson to participate in one of the biggest fundraisers that Eastern NC has ever had. Needless to say, when I pulled in the line of bikes had already covered the distance of the driveway and we’re lining up in the field. I asked Chris Riley if he had a number, but they were coming in so fast the parking guys It seems that almost couldn’t every chapter of Bikers keep up. As For Christ had come out I walked to support this cause that through the has been so dear to them. many, many bikes, I saw license plates from Pennsylvania, Connecticut and as far away as California. It seems that almost every chapter of Bikers For Christ had come out to support this cause that has been so dear to them. Jacob’s Run has been going for seven years. This is sig-
nificant, as it was explained to me that in the Bible you are to mourn for seven years and then help others. Alan has decided to now help other worthwhile charities, and with his expertise in this area he should be a great help raising money and awareness for the next cause.

For the past seven years, they have raised over $75,000 for the James & Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital. Well, on this final day they raised over $30,000! Like I said there were a lot of bikes! The band was setting up with a fully restored 1995 Dyna Wide Glide. Wow, I sure would have liked to include that in my stable. There were two bands slated to play, the opener is a gospel band called One Promise. Then it was Tuesday’s Gone, a favorite of bikers all over Eastern NC. The vendors were lined up all up and down the length of the parking lot and everyone enjoyed looking at the wares for sale. Biker jewelry, Harley T-shirts, and everything you could think of was set up for sale. I even bought me and Attitude a couple of the last Jacob’s Run t shirts. They were just too cool to pass up! Hometown Harley-Davidson was certainly on their game setting all this up, and hell, they were still making great deals on bikes all day. The service department was working hard and so were the parts and MotorClothes people. Just because you have a couple hundred people there for a good cause doesn’t mean you can stop work. And people, were they working hard! Well, as I close this out with my list of clubs, I just want to say to Alan, I’m sure you will be a huge asset to the next cause you decide to champion. The list of clubs that I saw that day was as follows, and as always if I missed yours, no disrespect intended. Fallen Saints MC, Southern Sin MC, Bikers For Christ MM, Brothers First MM, Ghost Riders MC, Combat Vets Motorcycle Association, Brothers of the Inferno MC, Guardian Brotherhood RC, Christian Motorcycle Association, Dragon Slayers MC. When you look at those names your reflection can be seen over them, past and present together. According to their fact sheet the Traveling Wall includes 58,272 names. It is a three fifths scale version of the Memorial in DC, is six feet tall in the center and about 300 feet long. The Traveling Memorial serves as a visible reminder of the great sacrifices made by many people during the Vietnam War. Its purpose is to help heal us old veterans and rekindle friendships. Thanks to the crew who brings this memorial to communities across the country. They give people, who might not be able to go to Washington, the opportunity to visit and remember loved ones in their home town. This old retired U.S.A.F. Eight years ago, the Knobbies started holding the “Ride The Blue Ridge” event, and it was a hit with bikers. Bikers came from up and down the east coast, and even Canada. The club members were amazed by the turnout, so they try to improve on last year’s event. The Knobbies rally is not like the normal biker rallies. There’s no loud band, there’s not even loud bikes. This year, and every year, the focus of the rally was riding scenic roads with friends, old and new. They had Michael Reno Harrell, a storyteller who played an acoustic guitar, for evening entertainment. This year, they had guided “Ride Along with the Knobbies” rides from off-roading to leisurely cruising down the back roads. There’s always a lunch stop along the way, and the ride ends back at the Catawba Meadows in the evening. The owner of the Timberwood Restaurant provided the food for the weekend. Many of the participants stayed at the park This year, and every overnight so they could year, the focus of the be ready to hit the road early. Some brought rally was riding scenic motorhomes and travel roads with friends, old trailers for comfort. and new. Others camped or stayed at local motels. I decided to ride up to visit them on Friday morning, and bring a stack of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazines for the participants. I got there at about 8:15 am. The weather was very foggy so they all decided to wait until it burned off to go for their rides. I walked around, and realized that one of the Knobbies was missing. The vice president P.O. Wilson wasn’t there. He’s usually at all their events, and is the face of the Knobbie Club. I asked, and was horrified by the answer I got. I knew that he was getting old, around 80, but he was a very active member of the club. I learned that he fell in his bathroom, and has been partially paralyzed ever since. He is in a veterans’ facility in Augusta, Georgia that specializes in spinal cord injuries. P.O.’s whole life changed in one second when he fell. His daughter sold his bike and his home because he’ll never be able to ride or live in a house with stairs again. It’s scary because it could happen to any of us any time. If you want to talk with P.O., call him at 1-800-836-5561. I’m sure that he’d love

to hear from anyone, even if you didn’t know him. As I have aged, I’ve been thinking of when I might hang up my helmet and stop riding when I don’t feel safe on a bike anymore. I would just walk away, and give my bike to my son. I talked with many of the Knobbies along with some of the rally goers. They were all excited to have a great weekend of riding the back roads of North Carolina and Tennessee. The off-road group left at about 9:30 am. They all had smiles on their faces in anticipation of the enjoyable ride. The back roads ride left at about 10 am. It was a little comical because the leader of the group told all the riders that she wouldn’t go too fast because she didn’t want to lose anyone. She does like to ride fast on the twisty roads. It almost emptied the park. All that were left were a few Knobbies waiting for more rally goers to arrive. I left, and took the scenic way home on south on Rte. 64. I turned south on Rte. 226. I got home about 11 am. Later, Cindy and I went out for a nice lunch with our son at the Flyin’ Pig restaurant t. It was a great way to spend a retirement morning.

You will complete the proper paper work and then watch a short video showing how the Spyder functions differently from motorcycles. While the DOT considers them motorcycles, they actually operate more like an ATV. Each rider and passenger is required to wear long sleeves, long pants, and no open toe shoes. own helmet but loaners are available if needed. Then, each rider goes through a small course in the parking lot to get used to the brake and steering through the cones. Once that is completed, a maximum of 5 riders, led by product manager, Ron Dob, go on a 10-mile ride through some of Winston-Salem’s most scenic neighborhoods. If you are familiar with the Spyder but it has been awhile since you tried one or looked at them, there are new features along with the standard ones that definitely make this worth considering. All now have 3 cylinder motors - a change from the 2 cylinder, which allows for easier shifting and gives better gas mileage. The Spyder comes in 2 models that feature touring and a sportier type of model. Folks who ride or have ridden the Spyder, say that some of the things they like best are better steering mechanism, reverse transmission, and built in safety controls. Also, this is a perfect solution for people who love to ride but have physical limitations. I think that if you sign up to try the Spyder at one of the upcoming demo days you will be pleasantly surprised. Or, even if it has been awhile since you test rode the Spyder, the new improvements will definitely excite you. The next upcoming demo days are October 27-28, November 10-11, and December 8-9. You can call to book your free demo experience at 844-621-7992 or go by Honda Of Winston-Salem at 591 Stratford Road in Winston-Salem, NC. 15th Annual Catawba County Shriners Poker Run Story and photo by Alan Dockery Summers sure seem to go by fast when you enjoy motorcycles. I remember fifteen years ago when several of us started a local charity ride and picked the Shriners to raise some money for. September 10th was a nice mid-September Sunday afternoon to ride on the 15th Annual Catawba County Shrine Club’s Poker Run. I’ve been on all of those rides for a great cause. Supporting the Oasis Shrine Temple, the ride raises money for Shriners Children’s Hospitals. As folks rolled in from the afternoon ride, the Newton, NC Shrine Club parking lot filled with bikers. While folks turned in their poker hands, the Shriners served all the riders and volunteers some really good BBQ and fixins. Outside DJ “Doc Hollywood” Crump entertained folks. Once we finished eating, it was time to go outside for some door prizes and to announce the winners. Dennis Grigg coordinated the event and said, “We had approximately 200 people to turn out for the 15th Annual Catawba County Shrine Club’s Poker Run. Thanks to everyone that has continuously supported our event and thanks to all the new comers this year. With your generosity, we raised around $10,000.”
WE ARE HERE FOR ALL YOUR MOTORCYCLE NEEDS! FROM TIRES & SERVICE WORK TO ONE OFF BIKES, PARTS AND PERFORMANCE MODS!

By: Bill Gallaway This year the South East Region of Star Touring & Riding held their annual Star B Q in Hendersonville, NC. OK, get ready the Chapters attending were from the following States. North Carolina 6 Chapters, South Carolina 8 Chapters, Tennessee 2 Chapters, Georgia 1 Chapter, Indiana 1 Chapter, Pennsylvania 2 Chapters, Ohio 2 Chapters, Virginia 2 Chapters, Connecticut 1 Chapter, West Virginia 1 Chapter, and South Dakota the National Chapter. What this amounts to is over 180 attendees at the three day event that were ready to ride and have some fun. The event took place August 25th - 27th at The Cascades Mountain Resort in Hendersonville, NC. After the Attendees registered there was an opportunity to participate in the Silent Auction, a 50/50 raffle and get information on the many rides that were available for the 180+ attendees. Upon arrival riders checked out their rooms and found their riding partners and friends to adventure out and see the sights that Hendersonville had to offer. There were riders going all over the area. Some as far as Maggie Valley and down into South Carolina, my neck of the woods. I ride South Carolina continually so I ventured out to see Lake Lure, Chimney Rock and Bat Cave with a swing through Saluda, Tryon, and Landrum, SC. Later there was lunch, beverages, and opportunities to share what everyone saw on their specific adventure. That evening after everyone returned from dinner on their own all over town there was a Meet & Greet along with an Ice Cream Social that was held out on the patio. Again, the following day, there were various rides to Asheville, NC and a fun ride through the countryside where we visited a cider mill and an orchard. This evening dinner was held in a banquet room where, along with a cash bar, dinner was served and players of the Chinese auction found out what they had won. Folks gathered with their Chapters to enjoy dinner and listen to some specific Star and Chapter Business and listen to our Guest Speaker, Alyce Knaflich, from Aura Home, a house for women veterans transitioning out of homelessness in Buncombe County, NC. The primary goal is to provide a stable residence, for access to community resources and veterans affairs. Some services offered are counseling, job skills conversion, job training, financial assistance, legal assistance, medical care, and help with applications for veterans affairs benefits. It provides a safe, stable home for readjustment to civilian life. A few awards were presented, and there were raffle prizes and door prizes awarded. Folks were recognized in various categories such as the hottest bike, the dirtiest bike, the oldest bike, the bike with the most bling, and the ugliest bike. There
was also a mention of who (a non Officer) traveled the farthest from Chapter #293 New Haven, Connecticut. And there was reference to the next South East Star B Q which will be Held in Charleston, SC in May of 2018. It’s looking to be 4 fantastic days. Bull City Rumble 13
The Bull City Rumble is a world-renowned vintage motorcycle and scooter rally hosted by Ton Up NC annually on Labor Day Weekend in Durham, NC. Thematically, the event has its roots in the traditional rivalry of Mods vs. Rockers, the sensationalized clash of two youth cultures- scooter riding mods and motorcycle riding rockers, in 1960’s England. The event has evolved from its humble beginnings in a parking lot in 2005 to a multi-venue, multi-day rally drawing thousands of enthusiasts from all over the world. The hosts, Ton Up NC, are a small not for profit group of enthusiasts with a singular goal: to promote the riding, restoration and racing of vintage motorcycles. 2017 marks Ton Up NC’s 14th anniversary as an organization and marks the 13th edition of the Bull City Rumble. When not organizing events, the members of Ton Up NC compete nationally in vintage dirt and road motorcycle racing. On Labor Day weekend, 2017 (Sept. 1-2), downtown Durham was again filled with the sights and sounds of vintage scooters, motorcycles and enthusiasts from all four corners of
the globe. The historic Lucky Strike Tobacco Warehouses in Durham’s Brightleaf District served as the backdrop for the annual bike show on Saturday, September 2nd where judges are not necessarily looking for the prettiest and cleanest machines but who are looking for well ridden bikes with personality and craftsmanship. The bike show winners are: Best Vintage British: Bob Richardson, 1954 Triumph TRW500, Best Vintage European: Neal Clark, 1973 BMW R75/5, Best Vintage Japanese: Jimmy Boone, 1980 Honda CX500, Best Vintage American: Terry Iverson, 1966 Harley Davidson Shovelhead, Best Post Vintage: Dave Hull, 1985 Kawasaki 750 Turbo, Best Competition (Race Bike): Mike McSween, 1970 Kawasaki H1R, Best Vintage Scooter/Moped: William Scallone, 1961 Maico Maicoletta, Best Vintage Chopper: George Wood, 1967 Harley Davidson Sportster Chopper, Best In Show: Richard McEnally, 1954 Royal Enfield Chief. The weekend activities also included the Rumble Registration Party on Friday night, a Motorcycle Breakfast on Saturday morning, music on the outdoor stage, the Boom OR Bust Burlesque Show, and a raffle to benefit the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association. If you like vintage motorcycles and haven’t ever been to the Bull City Rumble, you owe it to yourself to attend Bull City Rumble 14 next year on Saturday, September 1, 2018. The Harley-Davidson Book
Published by teNeues They are two-wheeled symbol of freedom; no other motorcycle brand in the world has the nearly mystical reputation of a Harley-Davidson. For more than a hundred years, this American classic from Milwaukee has shaped the motorcycle world. The fascination centers on the typical 45-degree, V2 engine. Over time, single-cylinder engines have come and gone from the Harley lineup, but the two-cylinder engine has been the defining style. Like a sculpture, it sits deep in the intricate tubular steel frame—an aesthetic revelation...and an auditory one as well. Once you’ve heard the gruff babbling of an early shovel, you’re addicted for life! This book - concept and design by Michael Köckritz, editor-in-chief of ramp magazine - is about the power and beauty of the engines and the elegance and strength of these machines from Lake Michigan. It is an homage to the

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! At our house we call it “pickin” and it is symbolic of your acceptance in the group. We live in the United States Of The Offended, so get over it!!
Two buddies were sharing drinks while discussing their wives. “Does your wife ever do it doggy style?” asked the one. “Well! not exactly.” his friend replied, “She’s more into the trick dog aspect of it.” “Oh, I see, so she’s kinky eh?” he asked curiously. “Well! not exactly! I sit up and beg, and she rolls over and plays dead.”
I was walking down the road today and saw my Afghani neighbor, Abdul, standing on his fifth-floor apartment balcony shaking a carpet. I shouted up to him, “What’s up Abdul, won’t it start?”
I live in a semi rural area. We recently had a new neighbor call the local city council office to request the removal of the ‘Deer Crossing’ sign on our road. The reason: “Too many deers are being hit by cars out here! I don’t think this is a good place for them to be crossing anymore.”

A dentist noticed that his next patient, a little old lady, was nervous, so he decided to tell her a little joke as he put on his gloves. “Do you know how they make these gloves?” he asked. “No, I don’t,” she replied. “Well,” he spoofed, “there’s a building in Canada with a big tank of latex and workers of all hand sizes walk up to the tank, dip in their hands, let them dry, then peel off the gloves and throw them into boxes of the right size.” She didn’t crack a smile. “Oh, well. I tried,” he thought. But five minutes later, during a delicate portion of the procedure, she burst out laughing. “What’s so funny?” he asked. “I was just envisioning how condoms are made!” A man seeking to join an East Texas Sheriff’s Department is being interviewed. The Deputy doing the interview says: “Your qualifications all look good, but there is an attitude suitability test that you must take before you can be accepted.” Then, sliding a service pistol and a box of ammo across the desk, he says: “Take this pistol and go out and shoot six illegal aliens, six meth dealers, six Muslim extremists, and a rabbit. “ “Why the rabbit?” “Great attitude,” says the Sergeant. “When can you start?”
A clearly inebriated woman, stark naked, jumped into a taxi in New York City and sat down on the back seat. The cab driver, an old Jewish gentleman, opened his eyes wide and stared at the woman. He made no attempt to start the cab. The woman glared back at him and said, “What’s wrong with you, honey? Haven’t you ever seen a naked woman before?” The old Jewish driver answered, “Let me tell you sumsing, lady. I vasn’t staring at you like you tink; dat vould not be proper.” The drunk woman giggled and responded, “Well, if you’re not staring at my boobs or my butt, sweetie, what are you doing then?” He paused a moment, then told her...”Vell, M’am, I am looking and I am looking, and I am tinking to myself, vair in da hell is dis lady keeping de money to pay for dis ride?”
A Highway Patrolman waited outside a popular biker bar, hoping for a bust. At closing time everyone come out and he spotted his potential quarry. The man was so obviously drunk that he could barely walk. He stumbled around the parking lot for a few minutes, looking for his motorcycle. After trying his keys on five other bikes, he finally found his own bike. He sat on his motorcycle in a good ten minutes, as the other patrons left. He turned his lights on, then off, and again on and off. He started his engine and pull forward into the grass, then stopped. Finally, he pulled out onto the road and started to drive away. The patrolman, waiting for this, turned on his lights and pulled the man over. He administered the breathalyzer test, and to his great surprise, the man blew a 0.00. The patrolman was dumbfounded. “This equipment must be broken!” the patrolman exclaimed. “I doubt it,” said the biker, “You see, tonight I am the designated decoy… I haven’t had a drink all day!”
A young man with his pants hanging half off his ass, two gold front teeth, and a half-inch thick gold chain around his neck walked into the local welfare office to pick up his check. He marched up to the counter and said, “Hi. You know, I just H A T E drawing welfare. I’d really rather have a job. I don’t like taking advantage of the system, getting something for nothing.” The social worker behind the counter said “Your timing is excellent. We Just got a job opening from a very wealthy old man who wants a chauffeur and bodyguard for his beautiful daughter. You’ll have to drive around in his 2017 Mercedes-Benz CL, and he will supply all of your clothes.” “Because of The long hours, meals will be provided. You’ll also be expected to escort the daughter on her overseas holiday trips. This is rather awkward to say but you will also have, as part of your job, the assignment to ‘satisfy’ her urges as the daughter is in her mid-20’s and has a rather strong sex drive.” The guy, just plain wide-eyed, said, “You’re bullshittin’ me!” The social worker said, “Yeah, well... You started it.”
I went fishing this morning but after a short time I ran out of worms. Then I saw a cottonmouth with a frog in his mouth. Frogs are good bass bait. Knowing the snake couldn’t bite me with the frog in his mouth I grabbed him right behind the head, took the frog, and put it in my bait bucket. Now the dilemma was how to release the snake without getting bit. So, I grabbed my bottle of Jack Daniels and poured a little whiskey in its mouth. His eyes rolled back, he went limp. I released him into the lake without incident and carried on fishing using the frog. A little later, I felt a nudge on my foot. There was that same snake with two frogs in his mouth. Life is good in the South. Amen, Brother! A man was sitting on the edge of the bed, watching his wife, who was looking at herself in the mirror. Since her birthday was not far off he asked what she’d like to have for her birthday. “I’d like to be eight again”, she replied, still looking in the mirror. On the morning of her birthday, he arose early, made her a nice big bowl of Coco Pops, and then took her to Adventure World theme park. What a day! He put her on every ride in the park; the Death Slide, the Wall of Fear, the Screaming Roller Coaster, everything there was. Five hours later they staggered out of the theme park. Her head was reeling and her stomach felt upside down. He then took her to a McDonald’s where he ordered her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a chocolate shake. Then it was off to a movie, popcorn, a soda pop, and her favorite candy, M&M’s. What a fabulous adventure! Finally, she wobbled home with her husband and collapsed into bed exhausted. He leaned over his wife with a big smile and lovingly asked, “Well Dear, what was it like being eight again?” Her eyes slowly opened and her expression suddenly changed. “I meant my dress size, you retard!”

Suches Loop Ride
By: Bill Gallaway The Greenville, SC Chapter of the Star Touring and Riding Organization has a chapter ride every month. September 9th was the date for our monthly ride. This month the ride was planned to Suches, GA. We had 9 bikes and 10 riders. The ride was planned with an early start from the Piedmont of SC, with a stop to pick up yours truly along the way at exit 11 off I-85, then onto GA. The traffic was slightly busier, with evacuees from Charleston, Savannah, SC and Florida heading north out of harm’s way from Hurricane IRMA. Even into upstate GA we saw FL plates, many on two wheels as The Suches Loop is well. known to the The Suches motorcycle community Loop is known to the motorcycle community as Georgia’s Dragon as Georgia’s Dragon, as compared to the Tennessee/NC’s Tail of the Dragon. 7th Annual Warriors Memorial Ride
By: Vinnie Bryant September 10, 2017 was a day of new friends, old friends, and traditions. As the early morning dew burned off it was evident that the day would be a perfect riding day and for our 48th Annual Tribal Coharie Pow-Wow. Registration opened at 8 am and within the hour we had 30 bikes ready to go. It was apparent that we were going to have a nice group for our annual escorted ride that was developed to honor all veterans and service personnel that give their lives for our freedoms. There were smiles, hugs, and new friendships developing as we all awaited our 10 am departure. By 10 am we had 52 bikes ready to roll with many 2 ups. The first 50 registrants received our annual T-shirt. I introduced our Tribal Administrator, Greg Jacobs, who spoke briefly about our tribe, community, and giving back. I then introduced Jackie Brewington who is a Tribal Elder that fought for our great country. He spoke about what it was to be a Native American Veteran. I then ask Tim Fontaine, National Elder with Bikers He spoke about For Christ, to bless our what it was to be a day. He delivered a very Native American inspiring prayer. Veteran. The escorted ride departed on Highway 421 north of our Tribal Grounds. The rumble shook the ground as community members rushed to their front yards to view the spectacle. We then proceeded north on Highway 13 N towards Newton Grove. We came through Newton Grove otherwise known as Circle City to the locals and with traffic stopped we proceeded South on Highway 701 back towards Clinton, NC. Our first and only stop for fuel and refreshments came in Clinton after 50 minutes of riding. After a brief break, we departed Clinton at 11:30 and then we headed south on Highway
421 towards Delway then back towards the Tribal Grounds. The ride was smooth the entire way and the Sampson County Sheriff’s Department did an excellent job keeping the ride tight. We arrived back at our Tribal Grounds where all the riders were served lunch at 12:45. After lunch was served, all participating Veterans were presented a beaded feather for their sacrifices. Many, participating in our traditions, stayed until later in the evening. We all had a great time and the Creator was definitely looking over us on this great day. I can’t wait for our next adventure.

Bikers 4 Boobs Breast Cancer Ride By: Buzz & Fay Morgan August 19th was the 8th year for the Bikers 4 Boobs Breast Cancer Ride. Ride organizer, Fay Morgan, is a 9-year breast cancer survivor and this is her way of “paying it forward after everything was said and done”. Fay went on to say, “I feel every woman has a right to have a mammogram. Randolph Health Cancer Center Mammogram Fund was started by us. We give uninsured/ under insured women free mammograms.” This year’s Bikers 4 Boobs ride started at JJ’s Watering hole and had 105 riders and raised around $4,000 on the “I feel every day of the ride. Ridwoman has a ers in attendance had right to have a plenty to keep them mammogram.” busy before and after the ride with vendors and live music. Before the ride left, Fay took the stage to introduce 4 breast cancer survivors who were in attendance and then we had the privilege of having Tori Nance sing a beautiful rendition of our National Anthem. Riders returned to an afternoon of music provided by Vintage & Lace and Audio Assault NC.

Shriners And Bikers Team Up At JJ’s Watering Hole By: Rick Gammons There are strong bonds in our community today. Bikers have many friends, and some do not own motorcycles. But at one point, almost all will need help in some way - enter the bikers. In my life, I have never seen any group of everyday people who (sometimes have difficulties of their own) come out to help those less fortunate - enter the Shriners. The Shriners were established in 1870 with their Headquarters in Tampa, Florida. They are a body of the Freemasons. The early Shriners based their organization on fun, fellowship, and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief and truth rather than mere ritual, as was the norm of that era. They have been helping people in need ever since, especially children. Everyone knows their most

famous accomplishment, the Shriners Hospitals For Children. Let me give you an example of the hospitality of the Shriners: My son Blake was born with limb deficiencies. Shriners Hospital of Greenville, SC accepted him through the Original Shriners Club in Greensboro, NC. At 11 months, they amputated his right foot and separated fused fingers on his left hand. He was fitted with a prosthetic leg and the Shriners provided all the care for Blake until his 18th birthday. The Shriners Hospitals For Children works off of donations and will not accept a dime from the families. Since then, many families Any time is out to us in regard to have reached the hospital. a good time We have made this an annual event and each year the totals there! increase. $8238 was raised this year and hopes are to top $10,000 in 2018. -Karen Hatchett Every year Jeff Cozzens and Cindy Welborn at JJ’s Watering Hole host an event for Karen and the Shriners. There are bands, food (BBQ by Butch and Carol Madders, this year), auctions, vendors, and beer. Plenty of beer. Jeff is a huge supporter of charities (big or small) and is constantly having events and rides coming by. Are you planning a special ride in the future? THINK YOU CAN DO IT?
By: Papa Jim Everhart On August 26th, members of the Davidson County CBA/ABATE of NC came together to serve free hot dogs and water to customers of the Midway Yamaha Suzuki dealership in Thomasville, NC. Those present were Todd and Donna Burkhart, Sue and Jim Everhart, Bob Fox, and David Speight. We passed out gift bags, CBA newsletters, information, and membership applications to about 25 customers and staff members. The gift bags were provided by Tom McGrath Law. Though we didn’t sign up anyone that day, we made many new friends and were able to get the word out. We had several that talked seriously about issues like E15, chip seal on the Parkway, tar snakes, and right-of-way issues demonstrating that way, they seemed to understand that the CBA/ABATE of NC wasn’t just a one issue biker’s rights organization. Therefore, I felt we did our duty for the day. We were invited back anytime. Mitch from the dealership brought out his drag bike for display purposes as well. He plans to add CBA decals to the bike for his upcoming races – FAR OUT!

Walkin’ Roll Poker Run Raises $30,068 Story and photo by Alan Dockery We sure busted the goal this year. For the fifth year, Sherrill Baxter has organized an event to raise money for the Walkin’ Roll Activities League, Inc. They are a non-profit providing free activities for children and adults with developmental disabilities. The goal is always $20,000 and we have come close a couple times. But this year Sherrill exceeded that by a bunch raising $30,068. I was proud to see almost 200 bikes and more than 500 people at the fairgrounds when the ride ended. These folks stepped up to raise a bunch of money for the sports programs, dances, bowling, choir, plus personal needs of our neighbors. This year’s ride brings the five-year total to almost $84,000 raised. “Our league is a league of abilities, not disabilities. Our purpose is to provide quality activities When you in a fun atmosphere and ride past there develop each players’ potential to the you will know fullest,” said Sharon Barlow, Director. Sherrill and Duane Gibbs started you made that this ride and make sure it’s a great day happen. for the bikers and everyone involved. We had a nice ride and there were several activities at the end. No dead time waiting around to see who won. Starting with free BBQ sandwiches, soda and water. Frosty adult beverages were available. The Activities League Choir performed. There were door prizes and auctions. The local dune buggy guys were a big hit giving rides around the midway. Best Poker Hand was won by Rosalie Freeman with three
aces. Tommy Lail had the Worst Hand. At the end of the day Sharon said, “There aren’t words to express how much you have done for us in the past five years. We’ve added more members and more activities. Expanded in ways we never thought possible. The T-ball group is 125 players, from 2 years old to 78. We have 75 bowlers. There are 35 in the choir and 35 swimmers. Soon we will have our own building and a physical address: The Walkin’ Roll Activities Center. When you ride past there you will know you made that happen. Come see the space you are helping provide. The building is empty so now we need tables, chairs, and equipment.” There were so many sponsors we can’t name them all.

Shannon Daggerhart does some of the pre-ride work such as graphics for the flyer and T-shirt. I think the first sponsor list she laid out ran about six inches off the shirt bottom. Duane said, “Today was a great day and this is a great number. Sherrill and Shannon raised much of this money before the ride. I want it to be known that those two worked their tails off this entire year to make this happen.” Sherrill wrapped up the day when he said, “WOW! We raised a total of $30,068, had way more than 150 motorcycles and sold over 400 poker hands. More than 500 people attended the event and at least 6 motorcycle clubs were represented. In 5 years, we have raised $83,500. Our goal next year is $25,000.” “For the last 5 years, much of my time has been dedicated to raising money for the Walkin’ Roll Activities League and this year we surpassed our goal. This was a great poker run for all involved. I want to thank every one of you for your help in reaching this goal. The sponsors, volunteers, families, friends, and caregivers; every one of you made this possible. Walkin’ Roll will always be close to my heart and has made a profound effect on my life and, for that, I will forever be thankful. The Walkin’ Roll Poker Run family is growing rapidly and next year, we predict more fun.” “Special thanks to my friends, John Cloninger (B & M Mailing), David Dellinger (Double D - The Maintenance Co.), DJ Mark Day, Gary Price (Hickory Fairgrounds) for your continued support,” Sherrill concluded. For more information on the Activities League, how to participate in their events and assist with the Activities Center visit www.WalkinRoll.org.

Story and photo by Alan Dockery Sometimes I am just so proud of my friends and my little hometown. Here’s a photo of riders from American Legion Post 209, Granite Falls, riding in the Old Soldiers Reunion Parade. Newton, The tradition started NC, hosts what is believed on July 4, 1889, when to be the longest-running patriotic celebration not Civil War veterans related to a holiday in the gathered at the old country. This year was the courthouse…. 128th Reunion. The tradition started on July 4, 1889, when Civil War veterans gathered at the old courthouse to recognize their wartime efforts and receive pensions. Now it is held in late August and draws thousands of people from across the area. Activities go on for a week as Newton builds up to the parade. If you appreciate American military veterans from all wars and conflicts, come join us next year.

A Little Bit Of Paradise Bros & Bro-ettes, Have you ever just sat on the porch or at the window and listened to the birds sing or the wind blow? I love to sit and watch the birds and hummingbirds feed. For something so little they eat and drink a lot. To me that’s a little bit of paradise here on earth. You have to use the word paradise sparingly because our world was once completely good, but not anymore. It all started with Adam and Eve back in the garden when she listened to the serpent. When Adam and Eve sinned, they were expelled from the garden of Eden and the ground was cursed. Genesis 3:3 but the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die. 4) Then the serpent said to woman you will not surely die. 5) For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. The Lord cursed the serpent and Adam and Eve. 19) in the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are and dust you will return. Yet, God is making everything new. One day His dwelling place will be among His people in a renewed and restored creation, a new heaven and a new earth, where there will be no more deaths, crying, pain, or sickness, for the old order of
things will have passed away. But in the mean time we can enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the things around us in the world today, which is a small taste of the paradise to come. The only way you can be guaranteed to see that paradise is to be born again and be living a Christian life. All you have to do is pray and call on Jesus and ask him to come into your heart and make you clean and to save you. I’m not going to tell you it will be a bed of roses, but you will go through life with someone by your side and holding your hand. Revelation 21:5 Then He who sat on the throne said “Behold, I make all things new”.
In His Wind, Ms. Pat

Blue Ridge Parkway Revisited By: Bill Gallaway The Greenville, SC chapter of the Star Touring & Riding Association had their unofficial annual ride to Waterrock Knob on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This year’s ride, scheduled for August 12, was moved due to rain, so it was rescheduled for Saturday, August 19th. There were 10 bikes, 12 riders, and one truck and driver. The weather was fantastic and the traffic was light, despite the anticipated crowds expected for the viewing of the Great Solar Eclipse. 100 miles into the ride and approaching lunchtime, it was time to head for Bogart’s Restaurant and Tavern for some great food as we have done for the last 5 years or so. Little did I know, but there were members of the Hendersonville, NC Star Chapter # 236 waiting for our arrival at the restaurant. It’s a good thing our road captain didn’t let us hesitate too long at our various stops for gas and overlooks. After lunch, they joined us as we all rode to the Waterrock Knob overlook which is at an elevation of 5,820 feet. After many photo opportunities and relaxation, it was time to head back down from the cooler temps of the highlands,
where it was at least 10 degrees warmer down the mountain. After this ride, I was already looking forward to the next weekend ride to Hendersonville, NC for the annual Southeast Star BBQ which is held in different areas of the Southeast every year. For more info on riding with us, go to www.starchapter352.com or www.starchapter236.com.

Little John’s Eternal Ride By: Johnny Reb On September 10th, the Wilson County Ghost Riders MC and their surrounding Ghost Rider chapters said farewell to their brother Little John. Little John was taken from us way too soon due, once again, to a cager that wasn’t paying attention. I just don’t understand why there isn’t anything being done about this $h!t. The law doesn’t seem to want to do anything and, in the meantime, we keep losing more brothers. These a$$e$ have got to have stiffer penalties for texting and driving, before they kill another motorcyclist. Getting off my soapbox now and back to the sad story at hand. My wife, Attitude, and I rolled in to show our respects. The Wilson County Ghost Riders clubhouse was packed with Little John’s brothers and sisters. The mood was The mood was subdued but not gloomy. subdued but His brothers were there to send him off in true not gloomy. Ghost Rider fashion. A little background before we say good bye, he was brought in to the Ghost Riders by Tombstone. A big man who does not have much to say, but was visibly upset. He truly loved his brother. After the Ghost Riders MC members shared their personal stories, some funny and some to bring the members to wipe their eyes and put their sun glasses back on, a Ghost Riders farewell was recited by Scrubs. Slider had the motorcycle lineup and Memorial ride all set. Preacher was the honored brother to carry Little John on his final ride. Frodo carried Little John’s cut for its final ride in the sun. The procession
pulled out for a ride that carried him past his house and some of his brothers houses that proceeded him to their eternal ride in the sky. There were brothers from other clubs there to say goodbye to their friend Little John. These clubs were as follows in no particular order, Road Rebels MC, Iron Order MC and Dixie Steel MC. Your Motorcycle Personal Injury Lawyer In New Hanover, Brunswick & Bordering Counties
By: Charles Holcombe Who says passenger seats aren’t sacred? One of the most important places on a bike is the passenger seat. Argue if you want, but you will see it when you know what it really does. Sometimes I’d love to be that seat! Man, if that seat could talk, just wonder what secrets and thoughts would be told. The seat itself is only as important as the one that rides there. It’s not even needed if no one is on it. It’s just empty space on your bike. Be very selective with the one you share it with. Once given to the chosen one, it becomes an item of pride and possession, even respect to her. It’s a place no other woman alive will be without a fight. She has that right and will defend that seat with all promised vengeance! I’ve heard it with my own ears and seen it with my own eyes what threats you or I get about loaning out her “spot” and if you ever try to take it away from her it could get really ugly, really fast! That seat can bring much companionship and laughter, sometimes pain, and pleasure. The right person can make all the difference in the world. It affects your attitude, confidence and sometimes stress levels including your outlook on life. Never take for granted the choice that was made for Man, if that seat your passenger seat. Take could talk, just good care of them, feed them wonder what secrets knowledge, and fill them and thoughts would with your love, the love of be told. God, and confidence. Make them whole and they will do the same for you. People are like copy machines. If you feed them crap they will produce crap just as they will with love and beauty. It can sometimes be a lonely trek between keepers of the passenger seat, no matter the reason that caused the void. Don’t be afraid to test new models for the seat and kick a few tires, you will know when it is right and who to let take possession of this sacred place on your bike. And ladies, if you claim that seat keep it warm or you’ll lose it. Do you still feel like passenger seats aren’t sacred? Try telling that to your passenger. You’ll soon find an empty area behind you that is open to a swift kick! The day I was introduced to my new passenger seat rider I went to the hardware store and bought some duct tape and rope because I wasn’t sure that she knew she was my new back seat rider. Now she knows and I didn’t have to use the rope and tape! Good luck, be wise, and now you can say, “Amen”.
