ell, we made it! We celebrated Smoke Out 16 and Father’s Day. Now we are sweltering in the heat, but we will celebrate Independence Day on July 4th. And as we go forward, we will celebrate summer by riding to all our favorite places, eating, drinking, and loving life. Yea, I know it’s hot, but I do not want to hear anyone complain. Adjust and Overcome! Remember when it was cold and we had to put all those clothes, jackets, and gloves? Then it rained, and rained, and rained! I admit that I cannot take the heat like I used to when I worked outside, but I am not going to complain. I am going to get a wet towel and put it around my neck and sit in the shade, but I am not going to complain. There are many events to participate in and many of our advertisers offer cold beverages in air-conditioned buildings. Remember if you must complain about the heat, you can always trade the old hog and buy a pontoon boat of better yet, get some of those red, yellow, and green shoes and go bowling. It is always cool and it never rains in the bowling alley! On the other hand, if you decide to ride, The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine is sponsoring a bike show at H-D of Greensboro’s Motorcycle Park on July 18. The Editor’s Choice gets their bike featured in the magazine. On July 25th, Kickstart will be holding a photo shoot for The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Virtual Bike Show at South Lake Saloon in Lexington, SC. Bring your bike out and enter it in the Virtual Bike Show feature in the magazine. Enjoy the ride and watch out for the crazies out there.

Sixth Annual AMCA Southern National Meet
Story by Alan Dockery The middle weekend of May was nice as could be for the Sixth Annual Antique Motorcycle Club of America’s Southern National Meet at Denton Farm Park in Denton, NC. For the past five years I’ve told y’all about what a great meet this is. You’ve read about the cool camping and good folks at Denton. I’ve told how much fun we have with old motorcycles. So this year’s story is a little different, more like how I’ve been telling friends about what they missed at Denton Farm Park. Bob Aton is the Meet Chairman and once again gave us a wonderful AMCA Southern National Meet. “This year we had an outstanding meet,” he said. “The meet continues to grow with more vendors and attendees. We sold out of T-shirts and stayed busy at the AMCA booth.” The Bikes – The reason we gathered at Denton was for antique motorcycles. There are so many bikes that I miss checking out and photographing way more than I do get to. So many that I see go riding by and hope I can walk around later. You can see and talk to the owners of all kinds of bikes in various conditions. Museum Pieces – Some folks expect to see lots of beautiful museum quality motorcycles cruising the Farm Park. There are some there – perfect, original, freshly restored, made from old parts bikes. They stand out like jewels because those bikes are actually the minority. Oh yes, we love them and crowds gather to photograph them and ask about the shiny old machines. You can only imagine the work and love that went into those bikes. Ratty Old Bikes – Most of the bikes at the AMCA meet were less than museum quality. Lots of the motorcycles have obviously been ridden for a long lifetime. They range from fairly well maintained to rusty rat bikes. Faded paint, rust, and grease are cool now. It even has a fancy name, patina. Imagine rebuilding an engine and trying not to get it too clean. Those old Shovelheads, Pans, Knucks, Indians, Brit Bikes, or whatever start with a kick and run fine. Japanese Bikes – Yep those bikes so many folks learned on and had when young are now antiques. Every year more imports show up for sale and more vendors with parts for them. I made the leap to Harleys young after only a few small imports and dissed Jap bikes for years. Now I own several of the fun bikes from when I was young. There are lots of low mileage, excellent condition, import bikes coming out of garages these days. When a cherry KZ 900, CB 750, GT 550, CT 110, Super Cub, or some model of Japanese motorcycle that you’ve never
seen rides by, yours and other heads turn. Choppers – Who would expect to see so many choppers at the antique meet? I would. Us old guys built choppers a long time ago so those bikes are antiques. Guys still build choppers from antique motorcycles. There were quite a few choppers around our camp. Some were original, old Pan and Knucklehead bikes built many years ago. The paint and molding may be cracked but they are still very cool bikes. One of the young guys there with a newly built Shovelhead chopper impressed me as I looked over his bike. He told me where the old parts came from and how he machined and modified them. Really Cherry Bikes – Some bikes there are low-miles preserved time machines. Keith had a couple of early 1970’s Super Glides that had all the original equipment they left Milwaukee with. There’s probably still some Wisconsin air in those tires. All weekend folks were drooling over them. Really Rare Bikes – Keith’s Super Glides are in that category too. Many of those bikes were quickly stripped of stock parts and repainted soon after new. So it was cool to see three of them within feet of each other and he had the only black one most of us had ever seen. There were lots of other bikes that made folks say, “I’ve never seen one of those. Are you sure that is factory original?” The Coolest Bike – Matt Walksler from the Wheels Through Time Museum and What’s In The Barn TV show, had the coolest bike at Denton. You might expect him to be riding some awesome museum piece, but what Matt rode around and competed in the bike games with was a rusty old Harley rat dirt bike. I don’t remember all the details, but it was a V-Twin from the teens or early 1920’s with jacked up fenders and knobby tires. Unique Machines – Rick asked me to photograph one of the many motorcycles he brought. It was a Knucklehead with a massive flatbed sidecar that was used as a wrecker to pickup other motorcycles. He can even tell some of the stories from the man who operated it many years ago. There were lots more bikes that made folks wonder, “What the heck is that?” History In Motion – If you can only spend an hour at Denton, be there for the History in Motion narrated parade of antique motorcycles. Riders line up and wait their turn to pull up to a spot, surrounded by folks, while each bike is described. This year Matt Walksler narrated the parade. It’s cool to hear from the owners about bikes you’ve seen riding around or on
FullThrottleMagazine.com
www.
display. The parade had everything from the hopped up little Trail 70, a sweet customized CB 125, six cylinder Japanese bikes, to lots of beautiful Harleys and Indians and British machines. There was even a two-wheel-drive Rokon and a ratty chopper built from parts gathered at Denton. Bike Games On Old Bikes – Y’all should stay another hour and enjoy the bike games. Yeah, bike games on old bikes. You think it’s tough doing games on your new cruiser. Imagine doing them with hand shift and foot clutch. The AMCA games are not only a good show, but they provide good seats, narration, and commentary. Theme Bikes – Each year there is a theme at Denton. This year it was the 50th Anniversary of the last Panhead. Yeah, there were lots of cool old Pans there. Everything from original bikes to restored choppers. Next year’s theme is Service Bikes. Fender ornaments and seat rails (And other doo dads) – One of these days I’m going to concentrate on photographing the things mounted on fenders and all over motorcycles. Lots of old pot metal airplanes are in the wind on front fenders. Come to Denton and see all kinds of cool or odd motorcycle accessories and attachments. The custom-made seat rails with hometown, club, bikes’ name, whatever artwork could take a while to shoot. The smells – Antique motorcycles have so many wonderful smells. As you walk Denton Farm Park you will smell the trees and those real tasty fried bologna sandwiches, but the smells of fuel, oil, and grease are kinda tasty, too. You’ll smell an old bike you’re looking at and remember one your Papa had. A two stroke will ride by trailing the scent of castor oil and you’ll have a flashback to your dirt biking or road racing days. Vendors – Sure you can buy parts online. But nothing compares to examining parts in your hand and talking to the person selling them. Most of the vendors at Denton have moved into the wooded, shaded area. Great! I will still checkout the guys in the field. That area works fine and I’m riding all over the farm park anyway, but I’m camped in the shade and it’s nice to shop in the shade. I don’t know how many other meets have that kind of layout, but at most that I’ve seen at fairgrounds, you are baking in the sun. Denton is simply Southern Cool. And feel free to use your motorcycle, mini bike, little red wagon, or whatever to cruise the grounds and vendors. Events with lots of restrictions are tough for us
19
old guys to get around and carry stuff we buy. Looks like the number of vendors continues to increase each year, too. Guys And Gals From Different Kinds Of Motorcycling – As soon as I arrived at the first Southern National Meet at Denton six years ago I started seeing friends from all kinds of motorcycling and related activities. I found out that some Harley drag racing buddies are big into antique bikes. Bikers I know from other kinds of racing, safety training, motorcyclists’ rights, off-roading were there. Kinda Famous Folks (And Some Really Famous Ones, Too!) – I’m talking more famous than Ramsey who seems to be all over the farm park and the guy women asked me to take their picture with. I think it was all the cool bikes he brought. And there are the Motor Maids looking sharp as they ride in. Some of those people at Denton are celebrities in our world and others. That guy you are talking to might be a famous restorer, racer, museum director, or someone else significant to motorcycling. She might be a famous writer, actress, or rock star. Those folks love old motorcycles, too. Being in NASCAR country, it’s common to see drivers and crewmembers at events. Those, “Guys back in the shop.” Who built racecars and engines are old motor heads and enjoy Denton. Bob is considering inviting them to join in on a story telling session Friday night. I think that might be interesting to the folks who are not fortunate enough to live around here, but are NASCAR fans. Young Folks – I’m so glad to see young people at Denton. We need to cultivate love of antique motorcycles to ensure the AMCA and motorcycling history survives and grows. From the 12-year-old girl riding Dad’s old Honda, to the young teen going through the boxes that will someday be his first bike, the 20-something guy loading the Panhead he just bought, to the Chopper Guys, I try to tell them how welcome they are at The Southern National Meet. Stories Around The Camp – You could wear out a tape recorder on all the great stories told at Denton; Rick telling about the wrecker, Keith’s Super Glides, The guys who still have their old Harley or Indian they bought decades ago. Stories of old races and rides. And they go on and on. The history of American motorcycling was relived many times under the farm park’s shade trees. Be sure to visit www.FullThrottleMagazine.com to see our extra photos and wonder what cool stories you can tell about Denton next year.

The 76th Annual Spring Rally At The Beach By: Everette “EZ” Short Well, it’s come and gone, with only memories, photos, skid marks, and trinkets to show for a full load of controlled chaos. But The 76th Annual Myrtle Beach Spring Rally can be counted as a resounding success! First of all, we had ZERO motorcycle fatalities at the time of the rally and only 27 arrests for the entire 10-day festival, which is astounding. Throughout the entire time, all I saw were smiling faces, even though the first 3 days were swept up in a tropical storm named Anna. Anna looked more like a belligerent hurricane that dropped a torrent of rain, flooded streets, and blew palm trees across the highways with 60MPH winds. After the rain rolled out, the sun came out to shine bright on the 250,000+ bikes that made our beach and roads their home for a few fantastic days. On the South end, while Murrell’s Inlet was an endless loop of snarled traffic centered around the big top show that is SBB, Myrtle Beach and the North end offered smooth sailing both up and down King’s Highway. Even around The House of Blues with the Full Throttle Celebrity Throwdown happening all week long, a full parking lot of vendors, and the GOAT Run, it was an easy in and out every day. Then, with the myriad of motorcycles at The Harley Shop at the Beach under the big white tent, traffic was still free and easy all across town. In Little River, both Harley’s Roadhouse and The Swingbridge Saloon were full to capacity every day, and live bands rocked our socks off well into the dawn every night. Jeff Long has long held the crown on the North end with one hell of a party at The Swingbridge Saloon, but Jen and Chris have turned the newly reopened Harley’s Roadhouse into a premier biker playground that lays sprawled across a huge spread of land to give us all a good run for the money. On the other side of the Intracoastal waterway, in a well known secret location, Ian’s Waterway (formerly known as Cap’n Poo’s) was a pirate’s stash of good times on the waterway with the nights lit up by a half hour
nightly live fire show presented by a wild man named Chad Land, simply known as Torch, who blew 40 feet of fire straight up into the air from out of his MOUTH! His shows are absolutely off the hook. And a brand new venue on the waterway is Boardwalk Billy’s in the Doc Holiday Marina. Their food and scenery are beyond compare, with crab legs, shrimp, authentic sushi and a great bunch of biker friendly owners who have plenty of parking where you can actually see your bike while you eat, drink, and make with the merry. Meanwhile, out on edge of Myrtle Beach, Patty’s Dew Drop Inn was slap full of bikes and revelers sucking up beers that had been swimming in ice, with Karaoke blaring all the way to the Aerolounge out back on the grassy knoll. The Harley-Davidson Main Store was packed with vendors, music, and more riders in the lot every day than I have seen in over a decade. Across the street, The Cityline Saloon was so full of tomfoolery that the building couldn’t contain the madness as it spilled out into South King’s Highway. Out on the very edge of town, The Rat Hole was holding full court and was the king of the shows and audience participation, with free entry to a full day of biker games that lasted into the wee hours, a kicking saloon, vendors galore, pudding wrestling, corn holing tournaments, and something they call “The Love Shack” that I will leave to your imagination. Smack dab in the center of Myrtle Beach, several bars have weathered the storms of politics to come out alive and kicking on the other side of a town that many bikers refuse to set a kickstand down in. Dog House Donny’s Saloon is still rocking hard and stays open all night until 6AM, which meant anyone who is

anybody eventually showed up before the rooster crowed. The Dogfather himself led quite a few daily bar crawls, but this year he shared the spotlight with a newcomer to the beach. Barnacle Bill’s Rum and Raw Bar, which is a great new biker friendly palace, is just steps from the ocean. These are two bars that are owned and run by bikers. In fact, I think the whole rally hearkened back to a time before bike builders were celebrity gods with mortal afflictions and people just wanted to ride to break out of the ruts we find ourselves in with all the minutia that takes up so much of our conscious thoughts. In contrast, the cluster hump the beach saw the following week shows us all that we all have one thing in common; our love for bikes, riding, and the freedom that our lifestyle brings with it. I hope to see you all here in the fall with a call for ALL HANDS ON DECK. Tell all these people you read about it here and, if you were here, look for your great pictures in our picture pages at FullThrottleMagazine.com. If you show up, we will make you famous in The Carolinas Full Throttle Magazine.

2nd Annual Allison Hunt Scholarship Ride By: Rose and Lloyd The 2nd Annual Allison Hunt Scholarship Ride was held May 2nd, leaving out of Ledford High School. It was a beautiful day, and beautiful ride through the country. This event is in honor of a beautiful Angel Allison Hunt, the daughter of Larry and Tamara Hunt. After a life long battle with a lung disease and finally a transplant in January 2011, God took her home on July 18, 2011. To keep her memory and love of life alive, Larry and Tamara have set up a scholarship fund for students at Ledford High School. Each student applying for this scholarship must write an essay, explaining an adversity they have overcome in their lives. This year the recipients were Taylor Luibrand, Bridget Lucas, and Kinsley White. They were awarded the scholarships at a ceremony at the end of May with Larry and Tamara Hunt and several Iron Patriots there to present. The Iron Patriots, who did a wonderful job with the route, the auction, entertainment, fun, and raising money through raffle tickets in advance, hosted the ride. There was a video provided by L&R productions playing during entire event for all to see beautiful memories of Allison, her strength, and laughter and love through her adversity. There were some tearful moments as several remembered this beautiful young lady, and as Tamara thanked everyone for their support. This year over 60 bikes participated, an increase from last year, and as this continues, I know it will continue to grow each year. There were so many people involved selling tickets, selling t-shirts, registration, preparing the food, even to the
over 35 donors and sponsors. A very heart felt thanks go out to each and every one. A special thanks to DJ Travis Wright, for the entertainment, also to Tim Summey for playing acoustic guitar, and to Travis Wright for all his time and efforts to make this event a success. Allison was a beautiful angel, and through this ride every year on the first Saturday of May, Larry and Tamara are able to give back through the scholarships, what Allison truly gave in her short time, a life full of love for all that had the honor and gift to know her. A special thank you to all who participated. We will see you all next year and hopefully add another 60 bikes.

Spring Into Summer Bash At Double D Burnout Saloon By: Rose and Lloyd The Spring into Summer Bash was held at Double D Burnout Saloon at 1408 E. Mountain Street in Kernersville, NC. It was a two-day event on Saturday and Sunday, June 13th and 14th. The day was great and packed on Saturday with 3 different charity rides coming through. A bike show, vendors, food trucks. The Forgotten Sons MC represented Saturday and Sunday with a booth showing their support to our Veterans and causes. At 4 pm it was finally time for the main event. J.B. Walker & The Cheap Whiskey Band began the entertainment. J.B. Walker is the world famous entertainer of the biker and veteran world. They have been playing at the world famous Iron Horse Saloon in Daytona for the past 26 years. The band states, “It has been our privilege to perform our music for the finest group of people on the planet, bikers and American soldiers”. The band was in the outside stage, and the crowd was wild

with such entertainment. There was J.B. Walker on vocals/guitars/and keys, Mr. Pat Shumake on lead guitar/digital media, Blackcloud Bobby Bruno on bass guitar, Bennie Edison on drums. The Slacker (Darrell Daniel) and Chuck Baby Briard were keeping everything running smoothly. The day went great, with great food, and great music. After J.B. Walker & The Cheap Whiskey Band finished their performance, the entertainment carried into the night on the inside stage with the great music of The Wildstreak Band who brought the night crowd in 1335 National Hwy. with their consistently great entertainThomasville, NC ment. Sunday started with another great DELUXE charity ride coming through, and great drinks and entertainment. J.B. Walker & The Cheap Whiskey Band, took the stage again at 2 pm, for another lively crowd. 5th Annual Shriners Children’s Hospital Benefit By: Karen Hatchett Saturday, June 13, 2015, the 5th Annual Shriners Children’s Hospital Benefit took place at HarleyDavidson of Greensboro Motorcycle Park and Chunk’s Hawg Haven. The event started out with over 60 bikes and over 90 riders riding to Double D Burn Out Saloon, Smokin’ HarleyDavidson/Southern Smoke Eatery and ending back at the Motorcycle Park with many Shriners and supporters waiting on the bikes to roll in. Full BBQ plates cooked on site served to all the riders. Southern Bones provided wonderful music and entertainment for all who attended. There were many raffle prizes and a great silent auction. Thank you to Bob Karney Law, Ironhorse Law, and IH Caffey for the many giveaways for the participants. This Benefit was started in 2011 by my son, Blake Hall, who the Shriners provided orthopedic and prosthetic care from birth to age 18 at no cost to our family. Blake needed a Senior Project for his last year of High School and decided he wanted to give back to the organization that gave so much to him. The rest is history! This year we are proud to say that over $5,000 was raised for the Greenville, SC Shriners Children’s Hospital. The cost for 1 prosthesis for a child is over $10,000. The Shriners have over 22 hospitals in the US, Mexico and Canada providing free burn and orthopedic care to children under the age of 18, helping Crippled Children Walk and Burned Children Heal. They also treat Cleft Lip/Palate and Spinal Bifida. I will say that my son received the best care possible in the 18 years we traveled to the hospital for surgeries, fittings of prosthetics, etc. It takes over $1,000,000 per day to run the hospitals but remarkably, Shriners finances their network with zero help from government or insurance companies.
We would like to thank all who donated, volunteered and participated. No benefit can be successful without help and participation. We are looking forward to next year’s benefit. Please, if you know a child who needs orthopedic, burn, cleft pallet, or spinal bifida care, contact your location Shrine Club! And if you are interesting in being a part of this great organization, you can contact your location Shrine Club.

10th Annual Matt Hunt Memorial Ride By: Rose and Lloyd The 10th Annual Matt Hunt Memorial Ride was held on Saturday, June 13th. Once again, Matt’s family and friends, in an effort to keep his memory alive, arranged a beautiful ride. For ten years this event has been providing scholarships for children at Wheatmore and Trinity High Schools. This year the weather was beautiful. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Department provided an escort for the ride through the country and all around High Rock Lake. Breakfast and lunch were provided and there was a raffle for a great basket to Wet and Wild, a huge auction, and a 50/50. This ride was established because of a terrible tragedy to the Hunt family. They turned that into a positive by doing this ride for 10 years and helping children in their community that just might need a little more help for college. After 10 years, the support, as far as riders goes, has dropped off. I know there are a lot of rides at this time of year, but this ride needs to continue. The bikers need to show their support. Please mark you calendar for 2nd Saturday in June of 2016 and come out and try to help us continue this scholarship
fundraiser. Many thanks go out to all who helped with sponsorship, advertisements, donations, and items for auction. A special thank to each biker that came out. Your support in any charity is always appreciated, and proves, as always, that bikers are the most giving demographic in the nation, because they actually give from their hearts.

The 4th Annual Seth Nall Memorial Ride By: Buzz Seth was taken from this earth too soon. After his passing, a scholarship fund for high school seniors was set up in his name. Bikers from across the Carolinas gathered on June 6th at the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Archdale, NC to keep the memory of Seth Nall alive. The sun was out and it was already a nice warm day by the 10am registration time and by the time I got to the church, the parking lot was already full of chrome. Riders were treated to coffee and biscuits while they registered and pulled the first card of the poker run. The ride was escorted by law enforcement, who gave a few instructions and then we all saddled up for a nice country ride. The route took the 100+ bikes over Murrow Mountain and through some easy curves till we arrived in Asheboro at our mid way pit stop. We all grabbed some beverages and shade till the signal was given that it was time to go again. It’s always nice to have a police escort and roll through all the intersections without interruption and the escorts did a heck of a job keeping us rolling. The ride ended at Riders In the Country. I found a shady place to park my bike and got inside where the AC was pumping. Three lines were formed and the bar, chow line, and a line to pull your poker cards were full of folks having a good time. The staff at Riders was cooking up a spread of donated fresh hamburgers, hot dogs and all the fixin’s. The Good Ole Boys were cranking out some tunes on the stage as the items for the auction were being rolled in. By the time everyone had a bite to eat and had settled in Tim Nall, Seth’s dad, announced the best and worst hand winners and Mitchell “Butter” Childers was nominated to run the auction. The auction brought in some heated bidding on some awesome prints of paintings by Blake Henkel, a very talented 21-year-old local man, 4 Bassett furniture dressers and a couch, some Conceal Carry License class vouchers and some other great prizes. There was some dealing going on in there! It was a good day that went off without a hitch. The weather was just right and more than 100 bikes showed up to support a friend and keep Seth’s memory alive. The money raised from this event goes to help graduating high school seniors with college tuition. Make sure you keep your eye on The Carolinas’ Full
Throttle Magazine’s Cruisin’ Calendar for the 5th Annual Seth Nall Memorial Ride next June. I know I’ll be there again next year.

Cayce West Columbia ABATE By: Kickstart & Donut The all-new Cayce West Columbia ABATE Chapter was founded in 2013 and the founders are Donna and Fred Ermel, Brett and Ronda Railing, Ed and Martha Hammond, Brandy and Jeff Pound, Jimmy and Beth Kervin, Ed Line, Joy Lee Cook, and Animals Biker Bar. In 2015, this chapter started a down riders fund for its members, is initiating a membership drive, and is a brotherhood for motorcycle awareness. We wanted to make sure biker’s voices are heard. This is what we are about. In 2014 CWC ABATE participated in their first Christmas parade called Metro Parade Of Lights in Cayce. They also did a Thanksgiving dinner for The Dickerson Foundation, and hosted rides to create money and Christmas presents with BAAC and CHANCE for local children’s charities and hospitalized children during the holidays. Members of CWC were present and supported the Pediatric Ride For Kids in Lexington in April 2015. A Grilling Island consisting of refrigerator, sink, with granite counter tops is being raffled this year by CWC to raise funds for the Pediatric Ride For Kids in 2016, and for other charities, such as for families that are not able to have Christmas this year. In May 2015 CWC had taken a big part of the 2015 ABATE Rally Awareness Ride working both rallies as well as Lobby Day because we support the current helmet law. So now we are at 50+ members up from 13 in the beginning. CWC will be having a sweaty seat run in August again raising monies for its many future endeavors. It is also having a horseshoe and corn hole tournament for all ABATE members and chapters willing and wanting to participate on September 19th at The Bar of Lexington. CWC is on the look out
for our members and potential members to assist in the new biker fund, “Oh Brother, Wherefore Art Thou”. Many of our members have trades and affiliations that can help a downed brother, not just in monetary means. The first year and a half of CWC is well known and CWC gives a “thank you” to the Wrecking Crew for helping us with the funding for the fall police escort ride this year. The west Columbia Police Department donates time to help us out. We encourage the younger generation to join ABATE and a local chapter as they are the future of ABATE. The freedoms they know today are because of people involved today. The freedom wasn’t given. It was fought for. ABATE with support was able to establish the red light law. ABATE was able to get the law changed that motorcycles aren’t recreational vehicles and able to get taxes dropped on a bike from approximately 10% down to 3%. ABATE is associated with the “Alive At 25” courses on no texting and driving and the “Be Aware” campaign”.

Angier Bike Fest 2015 By: WildThing & Arlene Mabry Come one, come all – there is something for everyone at the Angier Bike Fest in quaint downtown Angier NC. Two main streets in the downtown had been cordoned off for Sturgis style bike parking and I don’t know where all the cars parked! The place was a buzz with activity when we arrived. One of the many highlights of the annual Angier Bike Fest is the Bike Ride and this year was no exception. The bike ride is the official kick off for the Angier Bike Fest, which occurs the first Saturday of June. Approximately 40 riders signed up for the scenic 80 mile ride through the back country roads of Harnett and Johnston County. The first stop was at Love’s Travel Stop, then onto Bentonville Battleground, giving riders a moment to rest and soak up some North Carolina History. The Battle of Bentonville, fought March 19-21, 1865, was the last full-scale action of the Civil War in which a Confederate army was able to mount a tactical offensive. After leaving the battleground, the group continued its ride through the countryside, which included a trek down the popular Devil’s Racetrack Road. A last stop for gas and a snack and then the group headed back to Angier to enjoy the rest of the Bike Fest activities. The ride this year was held to support the To Make A Child Smile Foundation. This is a local group that enables children to go Christmas shopping for family and friends – giving all a smile for the holiday season. Thanks to the generosity of the riders, a total of $660 was raised for the Foundation. As in years past, the ride was led by the Seven Sabres Brotherhood, MRC located in Angier. For more information about Seven Sabres Brotherhood, MRC visit their website at www.SevenSabreBrotherhood.com. For more information about To Make A Child Smile, visit their website at http:// www.ToMakeAChildSmile.com/. Back on Main Street, the committee was registering bikes for the bike show as the Centennial Clock on the square struck high noon. It didn’t take long to figure out where the biggest crowd was gathered – it was lunchtime and the BBQ Cook Off and tasting was in full swing! There were thirteen entries and you paid $5 to get to taste them all. Tough job, but somebody had to do it. When you got the armband and tasting cup the BBQ Brothers, who were running the competition, gave you a card to drop in the bucket at the BBQ stand whose “Q” you liked best. They were all good. All the while, there was an open area that had parts and
all kinds of stuff for the swap meet section of the Bike Fest. There were bands playing all day on the stage set up in front of the gazebo. They also set up a bounce house for the kids nearby, so parents could enjoy the music and their kids were not too far away. There was also a vendor alley just beyond the bandstand where visitors could shop the variety of booths to their heart’s content. It was a really warm day, and we had to slide into one of the little cafés along Broad Street to enjoy a cold beverage. They were having their grand opening and it was going really well for them. After we cooled off, we set out to see how the bike show was coming along. The bike show was sponsored by Big Daddy’s Roadhouse that is right up the road from Angier on Hwy 55 in FuquayVarina. We were just in time to photograph the winning bikes in the classes from the field of 38 entries. Plaques were awarded to the winners: Antique Class – Wild Bill, Bobber Class – Seven Sabres Brotherhood, Custom Class - Ken Strickland, Dresser - Harley Hankinson, Harley Cruiser Class - Ron Conner, Metric Cruiser Class - Mark Wirth, Sport Bike Class - Greg Edmondson, and Trike Class went to Leo and Charlie Bersterman. The judged Best in Show went to Ken Strickland for his beautiful green 2013 Custom. Pictures of these winners and others from the event can be viewed and downloaded for free at www.FullThrottleMagazine.com on the Angier Bike Fest page. Then be sure to watch the Cruisin’ Calendar for next year’s Angier Bike Fest in early June.

By: Kathy Johnson The scorching temperatures this week made you wonder if Rommel H-D even needed a grill for their cook out. It was still in the high ninety’s on the way to Rommel at six thirty on the evening of June 17th. When we pulled up there were a lot of bikes in the parking lot, but needless to say, everyone was in the dealership where it was cooler. Hooters provided various flavors of chicken wings. The Hooters Girls were filling everyone’s plates and it seemed like some of the guy’s eyes, too! You could even get a cold beer if you wanted one. They even had corn hole set up inside. Once again they out did themselves with the giveaways. Some people left early and I want to tell you it pays to stay. I heard quite a few of your names called after you left. DJ Heavy was set up inside playing what ever you wanted to hear. The main thing is every month Rommel H-D does a bike night and basically they are letting you know they appreciate your business. That night dinner is on them and they give you a shot at winning some great merchandise. The kicker is they don’t charge you for anything, so take them up on the good time they’re serving up every month. It’s free. It’s for you! I R I DE

Beach House Harley-Davidson Spring Beach Rally 2015 By: Meredith W. Plenty of bikes made their way to Beach House HarleyDavidson the day I showed up on May 16th for their Spring Beach Rally, which took place from May 8th to the 17th. Riders passing through, to, or from Myrtle Beach, S.C. pulled into Beach House HD for food, music, and to check out the variety of vendors on a gorgeous HOT day in Shallotte, N.C. One of my favorite vendors was there with her unique ladies tent that is hard to miss from all the rhinestones reflecting in the sun and the bright colors of jewelry and clothing! Inside BHHD, the staff was friendly as always, and you could see most people enjoying the AC and perusing the large selection of Harley-Davidson motorcycles ready to be purchased! I am telling you one of these days I will own a Heritage.
Anyways, I hate to say that I may have missed a lot of fun the rest of the week that I was not in attendance, but the day I was, it was a sure thing that there are plenty of riders who would name Beach House HD one of their favorites! If you did not make it to this year’s rally, be sure to make it next year to Beach House Harley-Davidson at 4919 Ocean Hwy. W. in Shallotte, NC or until then visit them at beachhousehd.com.

Riders’ Roost 25th Anniversary Party
Story and photo by Alan Dockery A large crowd gathered at Riders’ Roost in Ferguson, NC, for the 25th Anniversary Party Memorial Day Weekend. Yeah, the coolest place in the mountains has welcomed bikers for 25 years. Dave and Pam had plenty planned for us Old Roosters there for the weekend. Many of us arrived Friday afternoon since we knew the camping spots would fill up fast. I was trying to get setup and partyin’ down quick as I could, but had to stop to hug friends I hadn’t seen since last fall. You know they are good friends when they pitch in to help and hand you a cold beer before yours has melted any ice. With the US Military Vets MC serving up chow a couple times a day, all we had to do was relax and tell stories of great times riding the mountains. The party kicked off with the Frank-N-Stan Band Friday night. I’ve enjoyed listening to these guys for many years strumming guitars around a Roost campfire or sitting on the

bunkhouse porch. It was good to see Stan back on stage since he suffered a massive stroke. Please keep Stan and Deb in your prayers. Saturday was about as nice a Riders’ Roost day as you could imagine. The weather was almost pretty as the smiles of old friends I hadn’t seen in a while. As more folks rolled in, others took off to ride the mountain roads. As usual, I was in the creek. The water was down and a little chilly. The fish weren’t biting either. But that didn’t keep us Roosters from swimming and grilling the ones we did catch. Late afternoon we got back in the creek for a fund raising Duck Race. Before sundown, the US Military Vets MC performed a retreat ceremony. Over the years, many of the men and women I’ve come to know at the Roost are veterans. We’ve spent hours laughing and crying around the campfire as us Old GIs told stories. The American Flag and our fellow veterans are very important to us and should be honored. Soon it was getting dark and the party shifting up a couple gears. It was cool to see the brothers who created Riders’ Roost – B.C., Roy, Robert, and Richard – there to kick off the 25th Anniversary Party. As the popular band, Deacon Black, started rockin’ the Roost we all headed down front to dance and party. It truly was a Roosters’ Reunion with lots of bikers there I hadn’t seen in years. During the first band break, Dave and Pam had a brief 25th Anniversary Ceremony where they presented patches recognizing how many years some of us have been going to Riders’ Roost. Several folks got their 25-year patch. More of us got 20-year patches. It was good to see how many bikers have been coming back to the Roost for so many years. B.C. had a T-shirt from the very first batch they had printed and raffled it off. The anniversary celebration continued Sunday. That afternoon Dave and the guys grilled a whole bunch of chicken the way we did 20 years ago at the Roost with simple grates and cinder blocks with plenty of charcoal. That evening the Tung N’ Groove band played for a while with DJ Dave also cranking out the dance tunes. What a great way to kick off the Riders’ Roost 25th Anniversary Summer. I hope to see lots of you Old Roosters this summer hangin’ around the campfire or chillin’ in the creek. “We would like to thank everyone who has and still does camp at Riders’ Roost,” said Dave and Pam. “If it wasn’t for the campers, Riders’ Roost would not exist. We look forward to many more years of Roostin’.”

Beginning Of Summer Weekend Bash At Stars & Bars Tavern
By: Uwharrie Charlie What a way to kick off summer and what a great place to do it! Stars & Bars Tavern kicked off the bash by starting off with some warm weather, camping with good friends, cold beverages, bands playing most all weekend, bike games, etc. We were thinking it would never get here! Friday May 22nd DJ Dougie Fresh was spinnin’ some tunes. Saturday May 23rd the Fandango Band brought you lotsa ZZ Top and blues. Sunday May 24th Rock U Charlotte blew the house down. We love these teens! This was a FREE weekend for our members and a $5 cover for all others. Lisa Stevens was there cooking up some food Friday-Sunday, hot dogs, burgers, pork chop samiches (yum!), funnel cake, and some more great goodies. You can’t beat this deal brother. Come check our new addition outside! It’s a new attached covered area with bar-rests out back, just like the ole days. It was much cooler under there and you are within quarter- tossin distance from the band shelter and fire pit. You can also place your bar order or beverage from the window and don’t forget about Nub’s Beer Shack out back alongside the D J shelter. There is plenty of room to cool off here or get your sun tan on. All we need is a concrete pad for a burnout pit and some hotties to get their swing on with some beach-volley ball in the sand (or Jell-O)! Who knows, it could happen, right Tim Rogers? Continued improvements are constantly placing this tavern firmly on the map along with exciting entertainment and folks like me, you, and all the crowd and staff at Stars & Bars. Special thanks to Lynn for your hard work and dedication for without it the rest of us would have to work our arse off, so please don’t stop! Go to the Carolinas’ Full Throttle page to check out the pix from this event. For info about this establishments calendar check out our ad in The Carolinas’ Full

Ride For Robinette
Story by Vickie Kress Photo by Alan Dockery Sunday, May 17 was a big day at Tilley HarleyDavidson in Statesville, NC, to honor Robinette Tilley. Robinette survived the accident in August 2014 that took the life of her husband of 53 years, our beloved Don Tilley. Robinette is not only a survivor but also a wonderful example of strength and taking life as it comes. She is paralyzed from the shoulders down and still working hard to improve her situation. After 7 months in the hospital her loving family and nurse are caring for her. This event was to help with her care. She not only attended the event, Robinette welcomed everyone with a beautiful smile. She was so excited to see the over 600 riders roll into Tilley’s led by the Statesville police and two fire engines from the Statesville Fire Department adorning each side of the street. She also greeted the many others attending. Her words
were, “I am so blessed and so appreciative of what everyone is doing for me.” The day started with volunteer workers from the Statesville H.O.G. Chapter, Rolling Thunder, and the Blue Knights helping with all the set up work and throughout the day. We could not start a big day like this without our volunteers to help Ronnie Carver get everything set up and ready. Thanks to Donna Tilley, Suzie Hutchcraft, and Cindy Chapman for all their hard work planning this event. Tilley’s Dance Studio Moms helped serve the food provided by Box Car Grill and donated by Mike Helton. The tea was served and donated by Lancaster’s BBQ and water donated by Scott Stewart. There were many other
volunteers, friends of Robinette, who donated their time because they wanted to be here for her! Kyle Petty and motorcycle police officers led the riders from Tilley’s Salisbury to the Statesville dealership. Matt Kennseth and Mike Helton brought up the end. Other NASCAR celebrities there were Donnie Allison, Waddell Wilson, Harry Gantt, and Buddy Parrott. Don’s long time best friend and service manager John Cartner came by to help greet everyone, too. Live music was provided by Pat “Mother Blues” Cohen, Papa John & the House Party Band, The Part-Time Blues Band, and the SRO Band. It was fabulous and all the bands donated their time. Jack Wooten provided his sound equipment. We can’t thank them enough for making this event so great. There were great door prizes and poker hand winners. The Best Hand winner, Jerry Washam, got six tickets to the Coca Cola 600. Worst Hand prize was a $500 gift certificate from Tilley Harley-Davidson going to Kathy LePelley. She said, “Wow what a way to win!” The Tilley family wants folks to know how much they appreciate what everyone did for Robinette, thanking each and every one who attended with their outpouring of love! Doc’s Thoughts On The Day I rode from Newton to Tilley’s that day on Highway 70, trying to go slow and enjoy the view, but thinking about Don and riding fast. I stopped briefly at the Old Tilley’s Harley Shop to say a little prayer for Robinette. Soon after arriving in Statesville, I got to spend a minute with her before the Salisbury group arrived. It was so good to see Robinette’s pretty smile again. She spent some time greeting old friends and well-wishers at the table with the NASCAR guys. Everyone wanted time with Robinette to let her know how much they love and miss her. As the Salisbury group arrived, Vickie Kress stood on the corner greeting everyone. So many of those riding in said “hey” to Vickie since she knows the customers as they come through the front door at Tilley H-D. One of the things that make the Tilley dealerships so special is how they maintain the friends and family atmosphere that is so rare these days. Overall, it was a relaxed afternoon visiting the dealership and seeing friends. One highlight was when Pat “Mother Blues” Cohen sang the Star Spangled Banner. Man, she did a good job and had us old veterans standing straight and tall at attention. Please keep Robinette and the Tilley family in your prayers.

By: Shadow The SC ABATE Cayce West Columbia Chapter held their monthly meeting as usual on the last Sunday of the month. Meetings are held at various businesses that support ABATE and the good work that ABATE chapters strive to achieve for all bikers. This chapter, ABATE CWC (A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments, Cayce West Columbia) has been working hard for three years. The last meeting held on Sunday, May 31, at The Shack Sports Bar, 2341 Airport Boulevard, West Columbia, SC, received a substantial donation. Mr. Brett Railing, one of the original thirteen people who established the ABATE CWC Chapter, and who once held the title of Sargent At Arms, was in attendance. Mr. Railing contributed a substantial donation to the chapter in the name of the Wrecking Crew MC Midlands, of which he is a respected member. Mr. Railing asked me to keep the amount of the donation confidential and I respect his request. The Wrecking Crew MC Midlands is the Warlocks MC Capital Crew support club and are a shining example of how motorcycle clubs support their community. The donation made by Mr. Railing and the Wrecking Crew MC Midlands, will be used to cover the expense of the City of Columbia Police Department for their help in traffic control during the Fall Helmet Rally this year. My advice to our readers is to join your local ABATE chapter and let your voice be heard. If there is no chapter in your area, you can go to ABATESC.com to locate a chapter near you and find out how to start a chapter in your area. Many thanks to ABATE CWC for all they do and to the Wrecking Crew MC Midlands for their support.

Richmond County CBA ABATE Spring Bike Blessing Run
By: Chip Long One fine morning, May the 23rd to be exact, a group of riders gathered at the Southern Roadhouse just off of US 74 Business in Rockingham to participate in a ride for the Concerned Bikers Association of Richmond County and, a blessing of the bikes by the Christian Motorcycle Association. Thirty-Seven bikes, by my count, participated and departed the Southern Roadhouse for Morrow Mountain at 1200 sharp. Those in attendance included the Richmond County CBA, Bikers and Friends With Helping Hand, Rebel Dawgs, the OL School Tribe, and the Christian Motorcycle Association. The 100+ mile road trip was to raise awareness of the hard work that the CBA puts in for those of us who ride. The ride ended at KC’s Biker Barn on Highway 1 South in Rockingham where members of the Rebel Rousers MC and the Alamance County Chapter of the CBA, as well as some patrons from Mac-A- Bee’s Tavern, were on hand to

welcome bikes and enjoy the hotdogs and cold drinks provided by the Richmond County CBA. I had a chance to talk with old friends and meet new ones as the stories from the days ride and rides past and future unfolded in the cool shade of the back parking lot of KC’s Biker Barn. Lots of laughter, handshaking, back slapping, and hugs were to be seen and had as the day wound down and folks drifted on their separate ways. It was a relaxing end to an exciting day. I would like to send out a big thanks on behalf of myself and KC’s Biker Barn for including us in the fun, and a big thanks to George and Beth Gorman, President and Vice President of the Richmond County CBA for the cold drinks and tasty hot dogs, and all the hard work you guys put in at the state capital on our behalf. I hope you keep us in mind and stop by KC’s Biker Barn at 2135 Fayetteville Road in Rockingham, NC (910-817-9912). Till then ride safe.

Crossfire’s Jesus Rocks Rally By: Gary Steelman Crossfire UMC, “The Biker Church” puts on a rally and car & bike show every summer. This year’s Jesus Rocks Rally topped them all with the music from Crossfire’s house band, and Thirteenth Tribe featuring CJ Ballard, who also played the part of emcee. The food was fantastic as usual featuring barbeque chicken and all those southern style fixin’s. The highlight of this year’s rally centered around Brother Duncan in the dunkin’ booth. Lines of kids and adults waited their turn to douse Dunc in that cool water. Bikers came from all around to join in the fun and games offered at Crossfire. Christian Motorcyclists Association had set up a booth offering ministry and information about Christ and the outreach of CMA. There were vendors from around Wilkes offering handmade crafts, various used bike parts and one offered a climbing wall for anyone willing to take on the challenge. Thanks National Guard. The day was filled with praise and worship music, and a little old fashioned Rock-n-Roll. CJ and the guys can put the place to jumping, with music resounding through the hillsides around Wilkes County. The day wound down with door prizes and plaques for the beautiful rides in the bike show. The coolest rides show up at
Crossfire’s events. Thanks go to Crossfire’s supporters, for their donations and gifts of time and energy. Way to go guys! See you again this fall for the upcoming barbeque feast and bike show. Watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for the dates.

Ray Price Racing Grabs First National Event Win In 2015 By: Nicole ClarkErickson & Mark Infield Ray Price Racing took home the Wally in the NHRA HarleyDavidson Drag Racing Series at the 27th Annual Kansas Nationals at Heartland Park in Topeka on the weekend of May 22 - 24. It was the team’s second win of the year, but their first at a national event in 2015. “It’s about time. We’ve been #1 qualifier every race, but on Sundays we made mistakes. Now we finally got it under control,” said rider Tommy Grimes. “I love winning at a national event, too. I could not wait to call my wife and kids and tell them.” Grimes led the pack as the #1 qualifier running the quarter mile in 6.370 ET at 229.33 MPH. Then Grimes turned a 6.456 219.12 to beat Brian Jernigan (7.003, 207.82) in round one and in round two posted a 6.376 222.40 to eliminate Len Darnell (6.607, 211.66) on his way to the finals. Grimes posted a 6.265 ET at 230.57 MPH to Rick “Sharkey” House’s 6.397 at 211.00 for the win! Ray Price Racing is now in the #1 position in the NHRA points
standings. It turned out to be a long day at Heartland Park Topeka. Light showers passed through the area all day causing several delays and extenuating circumstances surrounding the racetrack had NHRA staffing the entire event. But through everything, Ray Price had nothing but praise for the men and women of the NHRA. “This track has been great. The weather hasn’t been so good, but NHRA did a great job putting everything together,” said Price. “I’m proud of how Safety Safari and everything that has been done and how NHRA has made it work-out.” Ray Price Harley-Davidson Racing team went on to win at NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, North Central Division, Burndown at Sundown at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois on June 6th. Grimes faced off against Jay Turner, Julian, N.C. and posted a winning run of 6.433 seconds, 224.14 mph. At Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 12 – 14, Ray Price Racing with Tommy Grimes aboard posted a 6.411 ET, 224.17 MPH to beat Joey Sternotti’s 6.838 ET, 199.20 MPH for the win.

Harley-Davidson of Greensboro Custom Kings Contest Build The Custom Kings Contest is a battle among US dealers to build the ultimate customized Street motorcycle. The contest mission was simple: take a Harley-Davidson Street motorcycle and turn it into something every young adult in America will want to ride. Participating dealers were asked to build a motorcycle in 30 days. Harley-Davidson of Greensboro could not pass up a challenge so their owner, Mark Wheelihan, put together a build team of his youngest members to build a motorcycle that appealed to that “twenty something” rider. The Harley-Davidson of Greensboro team consisted of 5-6 members of the staff, but as the project took shape it became clear that David “Greezy” Garrison and James Onorio understood the vision and spearheaded the project. Mark’s goal was to not only build the ultimate bike, but to build a bike that young adults could afford. With that inspiration in mind they solicited the help of painter Wayne Jarrett, Powder
Coater Kwiksilver of the Triad, Wheel Right Shop, Kevin at Four X Fabrication, and Larry “Ozzy” Osbourne at Fabrication and Welding Experts. The build team completed the project May 31st and unveiled their masterpiece June 5th at Red Cinemas and again Saturday at Chunk’s Hawg Haven. The team received great reviews. On lookers expressed their amazement as they compared the Street 750 in its original state to one created by the build team. Based on the all the buzz it looked like they nailed the challenge. They took a motorcycle with an MSRP of $7794 and customized it for less than $12,000. The team was excited about submitting their build to the national contest. District winners will be announced July 27th. Selected district winners will be advanced to compete in a Market Competition. Wish the team at Harley-Davidson of Greensboro luck and show them support by sharing any images of their custom build on any and all social media outlets using #hdcustomkings #rollyourown #battleofthekings

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! At our house we call it “pickin” and it is symbolic of your acceptance in the group. We live in the United States Of The Offended, so get over it!!
A minister decided that a visual demonstration would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon. Four worms were placed into four separate jars. The first worm was put into a container of alcohol. The second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke. The third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup. The fourth worm was put into a container of good clean soil. At the conclusion of the sermon, the Minister reported the following results: The first worm in alcohol . . . . . . Dead . The second worm in cigarette smoke . . . Dead . Third worm in chocolate syrup . . . . Dead . Fourth worm in good clean soil . . . Alive … So the Minister asked the congregation, “What did you learn from this demonstration?” Maxine was sitting in the back, quickly raised her hand and said . . . “As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate, you won’t have worms!”
says, “So what have you got?” Right before they slam into the wall at one hundred mph, the wife smiles and says, “The airbag.” Home is where your bike sits still long enough to leave a few drops of oil on the ground.

A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.
A blonde CNA was out for a walk with two male patients, one who was bald. A sea gull flew over and made a deposit on the bald guy’s head. “Oh, dear!” she exclaimed. “Wait here while I go get some toilet paper.” The man looks at his roommate, shaking his head and says, ‘’Isn’t that just like a blonde? Doesn’t she know that by the time she gets back, that bird’ll be long gone???’’ A married couple is driving along a highway doing sixty mph, the wife behind the wheel. Her husband suddenly looks over at her and says, Honey, I know we’ve been married for forty years, but I want a divorce.” The wife says nothing but slowly increases speed to seventy mph. He then says, “I don’t want you to try to talk me out of it, because I’ve been having an affair with your best friend, and she’s a better lover than you are.” Again the wife stays quiet but speeds up as her anger increases. “I want the house,” he insists, pressing his luck. Again the wife speeds up, to eighty mph. He says, “I want the car, too,” but she just drives faster and faster. By now she’s up to ninety mph. “All right,” he says, “I want the bank accounts, and all the credit cards, too.” The wife slowly starts to veer toward a bridge overpass piling. This makes him a bit nervous, so he says, “Isn’t there anything you want?” The wife says, “No, I’ve got everything I need.” “Oh, really?” he
A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird’s chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, “I’m sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away.” The distressed woman wailed, “Are you sure?” “Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead,” replied the vet. “How can you be so sure?” she protested. “I mean you haven’t done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something.” The vet rolled his eyes, turned around, and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck’s owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said, “I’m sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck.” The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman. The duck’s owner, still in shock, took the bill. “$150!” she cried, “$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!” The vet shrugged, “I’m sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it’s now $150.” Sometimes it takes a whole tank of fuel before you can think straight. Two prospects were sent to the building supply house to pick up some building materials. One of the prospects went inside while the other stayed outside with the pick-up truck. The salesman asked the prospect, who came inside, if he could help him. The prospect said that he wanted some 2x4s. The clerk asked
A very prestigious cardiologist died, and was given a very elaborate funeral by the hospital he worked for most of his life. A huge heart covered in flowers stood behind the casket during the service as all the doctors from the hospital sat in awe. Following the eulogy, the heart opened, and the casket rolled inside. The heart then closed, sealing the doctor in the beautiful heart forever. At that point, one of the mourners just burst into laughter. When all eyes stared at him, he said, ‘I’m so sorry. I was just thinking of my own funeral. I’m a gynecologist!’ Keep your bike in good repair: Motorcycle boots are NOT comfortable for walking. Bob’s next door neighbor sent a text message of confession to Bob. “Hi Bob, This is Alan next door. I’m sorry buddy, but I have a confession to make to you. I’ve been feeling quite guilty these past few months and have been trying to pluck up the courage to tell you to your face, but I am at least now telling you in this text message. The truth is, I have been sharing your wife day and night when you’re not around. In fact, probably more than you, particularly in the mornings after you’ve left for work. I haven’t been getting it at home recently, but that’s no excuse, I know. The temptation was just too much. I hope you will accept my sincerest apologies and forgive me. I promise that it won’t happen again. Regards, Alan”. Bob, feeling anguished and betrayed, immediately went into his bedroom, grabbed his gun, and without a word, shot his wife twice, killing her instantly. He returned to the lounge where he poured himself a stiff drink and sat down on the sofa. He took out his phone to respond to the neighbor’s text and saw he had another message. “Hi Bob, This is Alan next door again. Sorry about the slight typo on my last text, I expect you worked it out anyway, but as I’m sure you noticed, my predictive text changed ‘WiFi’ To ‘Wife’. Technology hey? Hope you saw the funny side of that. Regards, Alan.”

Solid Or Hydraulic? Well, there I was again working on the old shovel head, installing new lifters and push rods. The original hydraulic units had become worn and were leaking down causing bad performance and strange sounds to come from the motor. As I shopped around the prices gave me sticker shock. Finally, I decided to go with solid conversion kit because it was one third the price of the hydraulic lifters, knowing all the time I was giving up maintenance free valve train dependably. With the solid lifters, unlike the hydraulics, if you miss a gear or don’t warm the motor up before twisting the grip, you get to adjust the valves again. Our walk with Jesus can be like that. I know many rock solid Christians who never waiver or mess up, never need a lot of work or correction. Then you got the gear missing, high maintenance solid lifter Christian, uh, like me. But the word of God tells us in Ephesians 6:14, “stand therefore having fastened on the belt of truth, put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet having put on the readiness given by the gospel.” It tells us to take up our shield of faith, our helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, praying all the time. If we prepare our days with these acts as a guideline, I promise you will live life much more fully. So, live like a hydraulic lifter, with Jesus as your tuner and you cannot go wrong. We at His Laboring Few Ministries would like to extend
an open invitation all to attend our services on Sundays at 10:00am.Please visit our website or look us up on face book. And remember please try Jesus.

NC Retail Merchants Association Honors Ray Price Harley-Davidson
For more than 30 years Ray Price Harley-Davidson has served as the region’s epicenter of motorcycling. Ray Price Harley-Davidson was honored by The North Carolina Retail Merchants Association (NCRMA) with its “Retailer Of The Year” award, presented recently during NCRMA’s recent annual meeting and luncheon in WinstonSalem, N.C. Also named by NCRMA as 2015 award recipients: Lowes Foods Stores, Monkee’s, and Walgreens. Ray Price was the only Triangle-area organization recognized this year. “We are proud of all of our retail members, who work day in and day out to provide superior value to their customers, and these four award recipients have served North Carolina’s retail industry with distinction,” said NCRMA President and General Counsel Andy Ellen.

“They deserve statewide recognition because they are helping to sustain local economies, changing to meet the needs of their customers, and giving back to their local communities.” NCRMA’s Retailer of the Year Awards is an annual celebration of retail excellence, from the smallest independent retailers to the largest chains across all sectors. Businesses are evaluated according to their contributions to the state’s economy, their business innovations, as well as their impact on local communities. Award-winners are selected by a committee consisting of retailers, retail educators, retired retail executives and suppliers to the industry. “We’re excited to be recognized by the NCRMA and are honored to be named among very good company,” said Mark Hendrix, general manager, Ray Price Harley-Davidson. “We take tremendous pride in helping to educate the public about the fun and camaraderie of the motorcycle riding culture. Our staff has more than 950 years of riding experience as a team to offer riding education and customer service that helps change stereotypes in the community.” Among the Southeast’s top motorcycle dealerships, Ray Price is an iconic name that has served as the center of motorcycle culture in Raleigh for the past 30 years. Home to Hall-of-Fame racing legend Ray Price, the dealership actively supports area charities through a wide range of philanthropy projects, including weekly fundraising rides and quarterly cook-offs for charity. In recent weeks, the organization raised $1,200 for the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford and delivered 70 repaired bicycles to needy youth, including a $3,000 donation to Toys for Tots. For the past 10 years, Ray Price has hosted North Carolina’s largest motorcycle festival, Capital City Bikefest, which attracts more than 100,000 visitors to downtown Raleigh each September

On June 4th, the United States House of Representatives agreed to an amendment to the 2016 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations bill that struck a provision that would have overturned the US Department of Transportation lobby ban. The measure was approved on the House floor reports the Motorcycle Riders Foundation. The Amendment offered by Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) along with Mr. Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and Mr. Ribble (R-WI), eliminates a provision in the 2016 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations act that would have allowed the Secretary of Transportation to discuss motorcycle safety initiatives with state legislators. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation thanks Congressman Walberg, Sensenbrenner, and Ribble for their dedication to freedom and motorcycling. In 1998 Congress passed a law that made it illegal for the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) to lobby state legislatures on any issue. Prior to 1998, according to the Government Accountability Office (GAO), USDOT had spent tens of thousands of dollars traveling to states whenever a state debated changing their own state helmet law or any other law that USDOT deemed worthy to interfere on. Seeing this as a waste of taxpayer money, the congress prohibited anyone from USDOT to lobby states uninvited. Mr. Walberg had this to say, “The federal government should not be in the business of lobbying state and local officials with federal money.” He added, “I believe the most effective way to reduce motorcycle injuries and fatalities is to prevent these crashes from occurring in the first place, Madam Chairperson, that means putting between the ears as opposed to simply on the head.” “I cannot think of a single issue where the federal government should waste resources lobbying a state entity for something that the state doesn’t want”, said Jeff Hennie, Vice President of Government Relations and Public Affairs for the Motorcycle Riders Foundation. He added “With such limited, precious motorcycle safety funds, they need to be used in areas of safety that are proven, not for bureaucratic waste.” The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) thanks everyone who made calls on this important issue; your participation was key in getting this amendment to pass.

By: Gary Steelman Bid-Harley at 1426 Northside Drive in Statesville, NC sponsored a poker run Saturday, June 13th, benefiting “Pets For Vets”. The heat seemed to inspire a lot of folks to come out and ride. There were bikes coming and going all day long. The ride started around 10am with around 20 bikes and before lunch time over 50 had signed up. The cards were picked up at Lancaster’s in Mooresville, Horsefeathers Roadhouse in Sherrill’s Ford, and Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson in Hickory, NC. The riders ended up at BidHarley for door prizes, food, a live band, 50-50 raffle, and cool refreshments. The people at Pets For Vets (www.pets-for-vets.com) find and pair up rescue animals and disabled vets. The result is a companion animal for vets. Both help each other re-enter civilian life and often aid one another in healing those unseen wounds. Thanks go to the dedicated folks at Pets For Vets, and to the veterans who gave of themselves in service of our great nation. Thanks also go to John and Jessie at Bid-Harley and all of the co-sponsors for their contributions to fund a great cause. See you there at the next run.

Inaugural June JAMR
By: Tracy Grimes-Lane The Inaugural June JAMR (Jerry’s Annual Memorial Ride) was a huge success! Plans are already in the making for the 2nd Annual June JAMR. The June JAMR committee kicked off efforts to recruit riders on June 6 at the Angier Bike Fest, where they enjoyed a day mixing and mingling with fellow bikers, eating great BBQ, and listening to some great live music provided by Southern Grace. Thankfully, a rain date was not needed and on Saturday, June 13th all makes and models of bikes roared to life for a great cause and to memorialize a great man with a four county 100mile ride. The ride began with registration at 8 am and KSU at 9 am at Fun Products of Goldsboro, NC. The 2015 June JAMR welcomed more than 30 bikes and multiple cages on a very HOT and Sunny day. Temperatures soared in excess of 100 degrees, but this group took to the wind. The 2015 June JAMR was a memorial ride to honor the late Jerry Grimes, a 16-plus year employee with Fun Products. Grimes succumbed to complications caused by Neuro Sarcoidosis in September of 2014 after more than a yearlong battle. Grimes, originally thought to be suffering from Lyme’s Disease quickly became acute and debilitated and by the time an accurate diagnosis was provided, the disease was so far advanced, treatments were fairly ineffective. Well known to the biker community, Jerry’s Kids (as they affectionately refer to themselves), Troy and Tracy Grimes, decided a ride would not only be a way to memorialize their father, but also raise awareness and educate others about sarcoidosis while helping others in need. Proceeds were earmarked this year to be divided between the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research, Tim Tucker, a Grimes family friend and neighbor who is a sarcoidosis survivor, and Faith Church of Goldsboro NC, where Grimes was an active member of the Church Bus Ministry up until his illness. Ron’s Barn BBQ & Seafood of Coats, NC provided BBQ and fried chicken plates to the ride participants. Additional plate sales were conducted to increase the proceeds of the benefit. Additionally arm bands and hand-made bracelets/ anklets were sold. A variety of baked items were donated by supporters and sold a ’la Carte at the dinner. A 50/50 drawing also supported the benefit, with the lucky winner taking nearly $260!
The multi-county and city officer escorted ride route included stops at Cycle Max of Wilson, NC, Shelton’s HarleyDavidson of Smithfield, NC, a memorial stop at Devotional Gardens of Dunn, NC where Grimes is interred, and the finale at Ron’s Barn BBQ & Seafood of Coats, NC. The finale was also celebrated with a variety of door prizes awarded to several ride participants. Door prizes were provided by Fun Products of Goldsboro, NC, Cycle Max of Wilson, NC, Shelton’s HarleyDavidson of Smithfield, NC, Hope Rodriguez of Goldsboro, NC (close friend of the Grimes family), and Open Road Biker Gear of Goldsboro, NC, as well as several new biker ball caps from Grimes’ own personal collection. While the 2015 June JAMR has now passed, committee members urge everyone to take the time to visit www.stopsarcoidosis.org to learn more about sarcoidosis. There is no cure and treatments are still evolving. Early detection is very crucial, yet the disease is often missed because it is so difficult to pinpoint. Had Jerry or a family member known more about the disease earlier, perhaps he could have received life-saving treatment earlier. The June JAMR committee also requests that you mark your calendars for June 2016 for the 2nd Annual June JAMR and watch Facebook for details by liking “June JAMR.” A website is forth coming and until it is up and running you may contact the June JAMR Co-founder and Executive Director, Tracy Grimes aka Red at 919-922-1106 or by e-mailing to thejuneJAMR@gmail.com. The event date will also be posted in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar. Additional pictures from the June JAMR are posted at FullThrottleMagazine.com.

NHTSA Issues A Notice Of Proposed Rulemaking The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to amend Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 218, which concerns motorcycle safety helmets. NHTSA proposes to modify the existing performance requirements of the standard by adding construction requirements. The reasoning behind this is to aid state and local law enforcement officers in enforcing FMVSS No. 218, allowing an officer to visually determine whether a helmet meets the safety standard. NHTSA is currently accepting public comments on this proposal, and will continue to do so until July 20, 2015. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation opposes NHTSA’s proposal. The proposal fails to take into consideration the rapid pace of technological change in this area. By adopting arbitrary dimension and compression requirements, NHTSA will effectively be shutting out manufacturers who utilize technology to construct helmets which, while failing to meet NHTSA’s construction requirements, may very well exceed their performance requirements. It is conceivable that, by the time the new proposals were adopted, they would already be obsolete. To compound that problem, if such a situation did arise - and it almost certainly will - the process of amending the safety standard is so long and complicated that it is not feasible to make periodic changes in order to include technological advancements in motorcycle helmet construction. No. 218 should remain primarily a performance standard, not a construction standard. NHTSA’s answer to this problem is to create a list of motorcycle helmets that will be exempt from the proposed construction requirements. The helmets on this list will comply with the performance requirements of FMVSS No. 218, but while they fail to meet its proposed construction requirements, they will nonetheless be deemed to have met the proposed safety standard. This confusing strategy ignores the fact that the law enforcement officer on the street will not have immediate access to such a list. At best, the officer would not know that the motorcyclist’s helmet meets FMVSS No. 218 until after the motorcyclist has been deprived of his or her liberty by being detained and subjected to an inspection of their helmet. At worst, the fact that the motorcyclist’s helmet meets the standard would not come to light until after the motorcyclist was forced to come to court. Finally, NHTSA has not fully taken into consideration the very nature of motorcycle helmet enforcement in the United States. Such enforcement is not done federally; it is done at the state and local level according to state laws which may or may not have adopted FMVSS No. 218. Not every state has adopted the federal safety standard. Many that have done so have also adopted alternative safety standards, while others require only that a helmet meet the performance requirements set out in FMVSS No. 218 and not the labeling requirements. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation believes that motorcycle helmet enforcement is a state issue and not a federal issue. This is evidenced by the fact that motorcycle helmet laws vary greatly from state to state. If a particular state is having an issue enforcing its own motorcycle helmet law, that problem is best addressed by that state’s elected officials. It does not make sense to address the enforcement of a state statute on the federal level, but that is what the proposed amendments to FMVSS NO. 218 attempt to do. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation urges all riders and rider organizations to comment upon this proposal and to point out the legitimate concerns raised by it. You may submit comments to the proposal by any of the following methods: You may utilize the Federal e-Rulemaking Portal: Go to http://www.regulations.gov. Follow the online instructions for submitting comments. You may mail comments to the Docket Management Facility: US Department of Transportation, 1200 New Jersey Avenue SE, West Building Ground Floor, Room W12-140, Washington, DC 20590-0001. You may also fax comments to the Docket Management Facility: US Department of Transportation at (202) 493-2251 When submitting comments, make sure to reference Docket No. NHTSA - 2015 - 0045. NC) and finally, to Iron Thunder Saloon and Bar (Mooresville, NC). The weather was excellent for this ride and everyone had a good time. At Iron Thunder in Mooresville, there was a cookout with hamburger and hot dogs, prizes, 50/50 raffle and live music from NSane Jane. Best poker hand went to Stephanie Knepshield and worst hand went to Tracy Edwards. Both donated their winnings back. We collected over $3000 to aid in Leslie’s medical expenses. We’d like to thanks all of the folks at each of these stops, the riders, the folks that did the planning, the folks who collected the donations and the ones that worked behind the scenes, especially Jimmy at Westside Tavern, Tony and Janet at Tony’s Bar, and Richard at Iron Thunder in Mooresville. And to Mark and Alice with The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine for riding along, taking pictures and being part of our Road Guard. You along with others were life savers (no pun intended…lol). We know that Leslie was pleased and smiling down on all of us, watching over and keeping us safe on this ride because we couldn’t have asked for a prettier day.
MADE DAILY!
By: Mandy Hathcock In November 2014, Leslie Hayes requested to friends that she wanted to have a poker run in her honor. It wasn’t long before those friends started putting together the plans to hold this event on June 6, 2015. Leslie had been battling breast cancer for 5 1/2 years, when on February 15, 2015 this disease claimed her life. She was very courageous and we fondly called her the “Ultimate Warrior and Fighter” because you never heard her complain about the battle she was facing. She took it head on and with a very positive attitude. She always wore a smile and never let on about how much discomfort and pain that she was enduring. She was a very giving person and always willing to help others. She shared her home and enjoyed fellowship with family and many friends. June 6, 2015 a good group of motorcycle and car riders came out to Westside Tavern on Tuckaseegee Road in Charlotte, NC to register for this special event and have their 1st draw for their Poker Hand. A prayer and blessing by Pastor Jeff Hathcock sent the riders on their way. The ride went to Tony’s Bar (Charlotte, NC), Iron Thunder Saloon and Bar (Concord, NC) Jay’s at the Lake (Huntersville,

Ray Price Harley-Davidson Reveals Custom Street By: Kris Weiss The Harley-Davidson Motor Company put a contest out to its US dealers called The Custom Kings Street Customization Contest. There were 147 dealers that participated and Ray Price Harley-Davidson was one of the entries. Each enrolled dealer was tasked with customizing a 500 or 750 Harley-Davidson Street motorcycle. Each dealer needed to execute three phases, the Planning, the Build, and the Reveal. There will be recognition for the District winner on July 27th, the Market winner on August 10th and the National Champion will be announced on August 26th at the Harley-Davidson Annual Dealer Meeting. The custom creations will be judged on the quality of customization and build, fit and finish, as well as creative use of genuine H-D parts and accessories. Each build will also be judged on creative use of paint and design as well as social media marketing. The Ray Price Harley-Davidson Custom Kings build team consists of Master Tech, Bruce Downs, Expert Tech, Jason Clement, Advanced Tech, Brice “Bacon” Terry, and Tech, Brad Whitfield. The team spent many hours of planning and
working to create this one-of-a-kind motorcycle. They debated with the design and accessories before agreeing on the final product. The day finally came for the Big Reveal. The location for the Reveal was Capital Bike Nights at Aversboro Restaurant and Sports Bar in Garner, NC on Tuesday, June 2nd. The event took place at 7PM. The band, Python, was playing great music and Kris Weiss, Director of Marketing and Promotions for Ray Price, got the event rolling introducing Mark Hendrix, Ray Price General Manager and the build team including Ray Price, himself. A short video of the build process was shown to the anxious crowd. While Python played the theme music to Mission Impossible and the smoke billowed from behind the curtain, the bike was revealed with flashing lights and loud applause from the expectant crowd. Everyone gathered close to the bike to get their first glimpse of this beautiful masterpiece. The paint glimmered under the colored lights. The build team was on hand to talk about the bike, the process and the skill it took to turn an ordinary Street into a work of art. Everyone hung out for a while enjoying the show, the music, and the conversations. “We’re hoping to get as far as we can in this contest but either way, the Team had a great time designing and working on this worthwhile project,” said, Bruce Downs. The contest is not over yet and the Team at Ray Price is waiting to hear if they’ve won any of the divisions that will soon be announced. “The cool thing is that we can create anything that’s been done on this motorcycle for a customer who wants custom paint, a custom tail section, or anything else that’s been done to this Street,” said, Mark Hendrix, General Manager at Ray Price Harley-Davidson. Stay tuned to this project at www.RayPriceCustom.com to follow the rest of the story and to see more pictures and video. #battleofthekings #HDCustomkings #Rollyourown

HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL
Concealed Carry Handgun Class
8hr / $80
Pick Your Own Date, Time & Location A revolver will be provided at no additional cost. You provide the 30 rounds or you may use your own gun. Story and photo by Alan Dockery The 25th Anniversary Summer continued at Riders’ Roost, Ferguson, NC, with the Spring Fling on the second weekend of June. This is always one of my favorite parties since some of my Hickory friends head up there for a kicked back birthday party. With friends camped from one end of The Roost to the other, we were in for a few days of chilling in the shade, relaxing in the creek, and dancing. Friday night some of Sam’s buddies played a few sets for us. She picked a good band, as the Carolina Hippie Society had us groovin’ to some classic rock. Spring Fling was the first real hot weekend of the year. That’s fine cause most folks were in the creek all afternoon. Groups of Roosters were piled on the big float, sitting on the sandbar, had their chairs in the shady creek spot and all the way up past the swimming hole and falls. Saturday night they made the pavilion into the music hall and Covering Carolina put on a great show. I love it when a band surprises me by playing good old music that I ain’t heard in a while. I think Dennis won the dance off that night. Come celebrate the coolest place in the mountains 25th Anniversary with us at the upcoming parties. Dave has some good bands and more planned to make the weekends something you’ll enjoy. There are some 25th Anniversary T-shirts left, but they are going fast. Pam has some cool new ladies T-shirts and more stuff stocked in the store for summer.
