ell, I guess you could consider summer over. The calendar says it is and the leaves are beginning to turn in some places, but our schedule of events says it ain’t over until it’s over! In September, we went to DC for the 2 Million Bikers to DC and Thunder In The Smokies in Maggie Valley. Both of them were in one week! You can read about those events in this issue of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. The next weekend we attended Ray Price’s Capital City Bikefest in Raleigh. Due to the date of the event and our print schedule, the Capital City Bikefest article will appear in the November issue. In fact, we had so much event coverage sent in that we have had to move some of it ahead to next month. So if your event is not in this issue, do not panic. What a month! Now October is here. It is one of my favorite months to ride in the Carolinas. The air is crisp, the sun is bright, and the leaves are brighter. Our October schedule will include The SC H.O.G. Rally in North Myrtle Beach, The Hurricane Alley Fall Rally in Myrtle Beach, SC, Biketoberfest at Thunder Tower H-D in Columbia, SC, and the AMRA Drag Races at Rockingham, NC. That is just the first two weeks! The remainder of the month will be loaded with Halloween Parties and rides. 2 Million Bikers To DC

By: Mark Infield I learned about this event from Facebook because someone sent me a link and I checked it out. There were pages from many states and the traffic on the site was voluminous. I said to myself, “If a fraction of the people who have liked or commented on this event attend, it will be huge.” And it was. We hooked up with Marcus Kindley who was the NC coordinator and met in Greensboro, NC for the ride up US 29 to DC on Tuesday, September 10th. There were 8 of us in this group, but if you look at http:// goo.gl/iF066V you will get an idea of what happens when bikers come from all over the United States for a cause. The cause? To honor September 11 victims and to counter the pro-Muslim rally that many said was inappropriate for such a solemn day in U.S. history. The closer we got to DC, the more bikes we saw. When we checked into our motel, it was like Daytona Bike Week. On the morning of September 11, we rode a few miles down the road to Harley-Davidson of DC. When we arrived, they had two lanes of traffic blocked off and had bikes parked 3 across each lane. There was nothing but motorcycles all the way to the dealership. We walked the 150 yards to the dealership, got our t-shirts, and when we walked back to our bikes the road we came in on was nothing but motorcycles as far as you could see. Plus they parked another lane full of bikes making them 9 wide. They left one lane open, but traffic coming from either direction forced cars and bikes off into parking lots to get by. When we got ready to ride, the bikes were funneled down to two by two and around the back of the dealership to get them all headed back towards DC. The police blocked the intersection of Livingston Road and Indian Head Road to allow the motorcycles to begin their route to DC unencumbered. After that, motorcycles made a long line on the beltway and split off at various exits leading into downtown. We crossed Constitution and Pennsylvania Avenues and turned right and left with long columns of motorcycles flying American, POW/MIA, Gadsden, Military

Service and every manner of patriotic flags you can imagine joining us in criss crossing the city. We went past the Washington Monument and turned left passing the WWII Memorial on our right. That is when I looked down across the National Mall and saw….NOTHING! The Million Muslim March was scheduled by The American Muslim Political Action Committee to draw attention to what it said is an unfair and ongoing fear of Muslims after the September 11 terrorist attacks. However, the rally was considered an insult to the nearly 3,000 people who died that day, when Islamic terrorists hijacked three commercial jets and crashed them into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, PA. That is what motivated, what sources such as the DC Metro Police estimated, as many as 880,000 riders from every contiguous state and Canada to rally in DC. I saw a few people sitting on the steps of the Lincoln Monument, but they could have simply been tourists. At any rate the local news showed footage of several people at the “rally”, but also noted that media and security vastly out numbered the actual participants, and their video supported that conclusion. Co-founders Belinda Bee and “Top Fuel” Bill Williamson credited everyone who helped with the unprecedented success of this year’s ride, and promised another ride next year, “and every year for September 11.” There have been rumblings that the nation might be in the mood to forgo Labor Day in favor of 911 day. Boone Fall Bike Rally By: dpapabear Labor Day weekend is the date to watch for the Boone Fall Bike Rally and this year Mother Nature smiled on us with some great weather for both for the spring and fall rallies. The Boone Bike Rally is a camping style rally. You know what that means when it comes to partying in the campground! This rally is in support of the CMA and the Toys For Tots event each year. The rally is currently a 2-day event with vendors, camping, bands, and games played on Saturday. We need to encourage Kenny to make the Labor Day weekend rally a 3-day event, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday next year. The campgrounds opened on Thursday with vendors setting up Thursday and Friday. Friday evening started with several bands playing early afternoon and into the night. Saturday is bike games starting around noon until evening, wet t-shirt contest, 50/50 drawing, dunking booth girls, and bands from mid afternoon until around 11pm Saturday night. The bike game winners receive a cash prize and this fall the 50/50 winnings were just shy of $1400, which was donated back to the CMA and Toys For Tots events. After the bands wind down on Friday and Saturday nights, the party moves into the camp ground until wee hours of early morning. There are always plenty of friendly campers welcoming everyone to hangout, have a drink, sit by bonfire, dance, play corn hole games, listen to music or tales from past rallies, topless ladies looking for beads, and just having a great time. You may come not knowing anyone but when you leave you will have numerous new friends! And then there are always plenty of places to ride during the

day. There are lots of curvy, hilly, mountain roads, secluded places, or country stores to visit and check on some of the history of places like Todd General Store or Valle Crucis. It is not far from Tennessee so day rides over there are nice as well, like the Snake on 421. So, if you have never been, pack up your tent, camper, bike, or whatever, and watch The Carolinas ‘Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for next year’s dates, and come party with us! By: Old Spook On September 8th, friends of Lee Herncane organized a ride in memory of his death, the result of bike accident last month. The group left Harvest Moon CafĂŠ on Route 17 to attend a memorial service at American Legion Post 147 on James Island. The 40 bike contingent meet up with nearly twice that number at the Post to remember a revered member of the biker community. Lee, an excellent mechanic, had worked at a number of bike shops in the area and was known for his random acts of kindness to many of the people he knew. He and his wife Joanie were members of American Legion Riders Post 179, where she was recently elected Chaplain. Although the occasion was somber, many of the participants at the memorial had funny stories to tell about Lee and the mood left as many tears as it did smiles on the faces of those that were there. The community of bikers is a very close one and we will all remember Lee with a great deal of fondness. We can hear your pipes from here Lee.

7th Annual 343 Ride 2013

By Judy Bortz Most people know that on that fateful September 11th in 2001, 343 firefighters died in their effort to save all the people they could at the World Trade Center. In Wilmington we have been honoring these heroes for years. The ride is organized by Wilmington Chapter NC6 of the Red Knights and this year it was hosted by Carolina Coast Harley-Davidson. It was a beautiful day for a ride. Fire departments from New Hanover and Pender Counties brought trucks out for the event. The BIG flag mounted on an extended fire truck ladder flying over the HD logo at Carolina Coast H-D was an awesome sight to behold! All Benefits from the day went to NC JC and Chapel Hill Burn Centers. Bikes arrived all morning with some coming from as far away as Fayetteville to honor the fallen. Coffee and doughnuts were available and helped warm riders. After the opening ceremony, complete with Bagpipers, the firefighter’s prayer, and a moving rendition of the National Anthem, many a rider had to dry their eyes before starting their engines. As has become the custom, 10-year-old Taylor Campbell, a burn survivor herself, rang the opening bell to start the ride. The New Hanover County Sherriff’s Department and The Wilmington Police Department escorted the 300 bike parade through Wilmington. They always do a wonderful job keeping the cages at bay. There were even cars pulling over on the other side of the road to watch us ride by. Every year there are more people and families out on the curbs waving flags and cheering the bikes on. As the parade returned to CCHD Atlantic Recovery BBQ served up a complimentary picnic of burgers, dogs, beans, and slaw. I think I can speak for us all when I say it was enjoyed.

Thanks to all the local businesses that donated, there were dozens of raffles for everything from oil changes to a 4-day fishing excursion, to raise money! A 50/50 drawing raised over $600, which was all donated back to the charity by the winner! All in all, it was a perfect day for a ride made even better for the cause we all came out to support! Every year they have dog tags with the fallen firefighters’ names and units, and every year all 343 of them are sold out! Thanks to everyone that rode for the cause all these years, we are BIKERS. We will NEVER FORGET! Kudos to all the men and women who make it their job to keep us all safe!

By: Diane Hollingsworth Everyone who attended The Harley-Davidson 110 Anniversary Celebration greatly enjoyed it, but it had a particularly special meaning for a group of women riders from the Triad. On this occasion, the first women only Harley-Davidson riderâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s group was acknowledged. The Triad Bad Lasses began as a group during the latter part of 2012, sponsored by Mark Wheelihanâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Harley-Davidson of Greensboro. In the past year, the group has grown from a steering committee of seven, to 43 members at last count. The main purpose of the group is to ride whenever and wherever as often as possible. In addition, they encourage and support other women interested in becoming involved in the riding community. During the 110th Anniversary Celebration, the Triad Bad Lasses were given the honor of riding as a group in the celebration parade on Saturday, August 31st. Twelve members representing the riding group rode together behind their own special banner down Wisconsin Avenue, through downtown Milwaukee, and ending up at the Summerfest Grounds. As the Bad Lasses rode past the crowd, there were uproars of delight, as it was realized that these were all women riders wearing a special patch that had been designed especially for them. Over the course of the rest of the weekend Triad Bad Lasses, other riders who wanted to hear their story approached members. New Indians Arrive At Coastal Victory

The Ultimate Big Pot Fun Run

Story and photo by Alan Dockery What a beautiful day we were blessed with on the fourth Saturday in August for the 3rd Annual Ultimate Big Pot Fun Run. Organized by the Christian Motorcyclists Association and the Hickory Chapter of the Concerned Bikers Association, this run raised more than $12,000 for the South Mountain Christian Camp, south of Morganton, NC, and the Hickory CBA Charities. 250 riders left out of Hickory that morning on a leisurely route winding through the country. The ride took folks through a part of North Carolina that most had not ridden. Some of us took our time and dashed over to one of my favorite little twisty roads that wasn’t on the route. Hey, we didn’t get lost when I took folks on a shortcut to the camp, either. South Mountain Christian Camp is a great place to end a bike run. The camp is a beautiful old site dating back to the mid-1970’s. They have a Summer Camp for children and teens, an outdoor nature program, retreat center, ropes course, disc golf course, ponds, and more. At the camp bikers enjoyed food and drinks at the many tables scattered through the wooded grounds. You could take a hayride around the property. Some vendors were setup, too. The Big Pot Winner of $1,500 was David McCoy, Newton, NC. Travis Hildebrand, Icard, NC, won $1,000, and Tipton Deitz, Hickory, won $500. Debra Smith, Connelly Springs, NC, won the 50/50. Dennis McClean, Drexel, NC, won Best of Show in the bike show. “It’s a Jesus thing,” said Randy Carswell, main organizer. “When you start to do something good like this, God sends you the people you need to help.” “One of those people is Art Reagle the camp caretaker. He introduced us to South Mountain Christian Camp and showed us the need. God started talking to me and I gave in and did it.” Randy said there are lots of people to thank for helping with

Myrtle Beach H-D 110th Birthday Party

By: Everette “EZ” Short While most American companies are on life support and showing fearful signs of Alzheimer syndrome, HarleyDavidson was alive and kicking for its 110th birthday bash. On Thursday August 26th, Harley-Davidson outlets, riders, and dealers across the country celebrated a big birthday that almost didn’t happen. In Myrtle Beach, the weather was gorgeous when all the stops got kicked out for a party featuring killer slaw and BBQ with all the fixin’s, cool served ice cream, a giant fire licked birthday cake, and great live music from the jammin’ talents of Shaywise. Big crowds flowed through the party from about noon until the shop closed and everyone had a chance to roll the dice in hopes to win their own brand new Harley-Davidson. All in all, it was a good time that was well attended, with a lot of motorcycles being rolled out to take pictures with their brand new owners. If you were there, then you know it was a party to be at. If you’ve been alive in the USA any time throughout the last

century, then you know all about the trials and tribulations of the American legacy that is The Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Company. Theirs is an epic story and the fact that H-D thrives in the midst of our collapsing economy is a lesson to all of us. It’s such an honor to be able to acknowledge the hard work and tireless effort these groups of bikers dedicate to giving back to their communities. Smokin’ Harley-Davidson Intros 2014’s

By: Rick Gammons Before I ever got within sight of Smokin’ HarleyDavidson Saturday (Aug. 31) I could hear the music pierce the morning air, signaling something big was about to happen. It was the celebration of Harley’s “110 Years of Freedom”. By mid-morning, the parking lot was busting at the seams. Bikers were rolling in from all around to check out the festivities and to eyeball the line of 18 new Harley-Davidson motorcycles, which had started showing up earlier in the week. The early riders were there to ride in the Jim “Catfish” Hunter Foundation, a benefit for ALS in honor of Tommy Young organized by the Winston-Salem H.O.G. Chapter #2619. At 10:30, the music was drowned out by sweeter music – more than 100 motorcycles! They roared out for a ride through Forsyth and Stokes counties escorted by local law enforcement. Meanwhile, other bikers rolled in to check out those gorgeous 2014 HDs and the new 2013s still available at Smokin’ HD. Vendors and exhibits were available to entertain those who came by. The “ Pink Fire Truck” for Pink Heals of the Piedmont was there to gather support in the research of cancer in women. Burgers and dogs were available at the tent just outside Smokin’s front door as well as Freeborne’s Eatery just up the hill, where you can always find the Freeborne Girls who keep

you happy with food and entertainment. Music played all afternoon and, I will assume, evening. I couldn’t hold out all day like I use to do (somebody said something about “old age”, don’t know where that came from – HA!). I am so sure that everybody there had a large time. Smokin’ Harley-Davidson is located on the east side of Winston Sale at 3441 Myer Drive just off I-40 at Exit 10. So, the first Saturday in September, some of us rode to the Wizard Saloon in Hickory, NC, for the 4th Annual Bikes, Booze, and Tattoos. This is a party organized by Chris Hollifield, owner of Carolina Distillery and Dragon’s Den Tattoo Company. It was a beautiful day to have his party with weather good for riding and hanging outside with friends. This year several tattoo shops were represented. Some celebrity guest were at Bikes, Booze, and Tattoos, too, such as Josh from The Moonshiners, James Vaughn from Ink Masters, Tony Olivas from Sacred Heart Tattoos in Atlanta, and Loko T from Los Angeles. Chris made some cool trophies for the bike show and tattoo contest using Carolina Distillery bottles. More of y’all should have entered the bike show, because my favorite there was the simple black Shovelhead bobber without a show sticker. The 13th Annual Ride For The Animals By: Everette “EZ” Short They say that every dog has his day, but on Saturday, September 14th, more than 100 motorcycles showed up for a full day of beautiful scenery and sunshiny riding across the Strand to help out with the furry friends at The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach. From 10am and on through the noon hour, people came from all over the Carolinas and surrounding states to register at The North Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson Store at the Beach. The ladies from the Humane Society of NMB were all on deck and stationed throughout the stops to look good while they dealt the cards with smiles and whooping yelps of fun. Dirty Dick’s was the first quick minute stop up Kings Highway, before running a short jaunt to Captain Poo’s on the waterway. Once there, I actually managed to get part of the group to stand still long enough for a quick shot, while enjoying a delicious pound of steamed shrimp and a cold beer that went down in a heartbeat. Soon enough, it was off for a good long ride to Captain Seaweed’s at the wonderland of Bucksport Marina. The next stop was Badd Kitty, an adult supermarket off the 17 By-pass that aims to put the spice back in your love life. Finally, the crowd wandered down to Murrell’s Inlet for prizes and fun. The day went without incident and many out of state riders seemed happy to lose their helmets, while others clung to their lids, all the while scowling at those of us with naked noggins. Sparkey won the $100 prize and donated it back to The Humane Society of NMB. That is how it should be. Everyone

take note, when you win cash on a charity run, it should ALWAYS go back to the charity. Good for you Sparkey! Hopefully, you can show up next year and help out all our furry friends. 4th Annual Dean Ferris Memorial Ride

By: Scott Wicker On Saturday, August 24th, Thunder Road Harley-Davidson hosted the 4th Annual Dean Ferris Memorial Ride. The benefit was organized and put on by the Piedmont Eagle Riders 4420, a chartered organization within the Fraternal Order of Eagles. The ride was held to raise funds that benefitted the Danville Cancer Association. The ride originally started over four years ago and was held to benefit member Dean Ferris who was critically ill at the time. Unfortunately, Dean passed away literally days before the first event was held, but his memory was truly not forgotten and will truly live on forever due to the hard work of The Eagle Riders, friends, and family to put on this annual benefit.

The ride left promptly at 1 PM from Thunder Road HarleyDavidson. 116 individuals registered, 72 bikes and 5 cars participated in the ride. The ride was 81.5 miles and took the 58 east bypass around Danville to 360 E. out to Halifax, down through South Boston on 501 S. and then 58 W. back to The Fraternal Order of Eagles. There were 3 stops, Danville Welcome Center, H & H Grocery in Mt. Vernon, and Smokin Jakes BBQ in South Boston. After the ride, the participants were greeted with delicious BBQ, slaw, baked beans, and hot dogs, and entertainment by Dirt Road Scholars. 110 additional attendees came and also had an opportunity to bid on some great silent auction items as well. Through the ride, event t-shirt sales, a 50/50 drawing, and the silent auction, $11,713.26 was raised for the Danville Cancer Association. This is one of the largest donations from a ride in this area. We would like to thank the members for their hospitality and all their hard work for putting on such a great event. Thanks always to Thunder Road Harley-Davidson and all their staff for hosting the event. Ride Safe!

Steele Angels Back To School Run By: Wendy “Breezy” Rogers The Steele Angels of Fayetteville just had their 9th Annual Back To School Run on Saturday, August 24th. And what great riding weather did they have! It was in the low 80’s, not too hot and not too humid. They do this every year just before school starts back. The mission is to collect as many school supplies or donations to give to the school system in Cumberland County and surrounding counties to help and provide to the children that the parents are unable to support their needs. It is our children that are going to be our future and with today‘s hard times and society, they need our special help in any way possible. Cumberland County alone has over 600 homeless children. That is not information that is in front of us each day, but to be in their shoes having to live the lives they do must be a terrible thing to have to bear. The ride started at Starr’s Bar in Fayetteville on Raeford Road and was escorted to The Crow’s Nest located on Chickenfoot Road in the St. Pauls area. At the end of the route, they had food, 50/50, door prizes, games, and great socializing. It was a great turn out for what was expected. The Steele Angels would like to say “Thanks” to all the sponsors and supporters and for coming on the ride, it means a great deal to them! The Steele Angels will be having their 10th Annual Toy Run this year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, November 23, so mark your calendars for this event. Our priorities are: Professional development of our members, community involvement, and assisting deserving student with achieving educational goals through scholarships. Our organization awards deserving students with a scholarship that FASHRM presents every year. On June 15th FASHRM hosted our 4th Annual FASHRM Scholarship Motorcycle Fun Run. FASHRM began hosting our motorcycle ride in 2010 to raise funds to support our scholarship program and this year was no different for our organization. Our ride attracted 14 riders, which included some riders who participated in previous years. The ride started and ended at Arnette Park located on Wilmington Road in Fayetteville, NC. The run consisted of a majestic and scenic route traveling through three counties, Cumberland, Bladen, and Robeson. The event raised $276 toward our scholarship fund. Lewis Adams, a student attending UNC Pembroke, was the scholarship recipient for this year. Lewis was awarded $500 to assist with educational needs. Congratulations Lewis! Hopefully, you will be able to join us next year. We usually host our ride during the month June, so watch The Carolinas’ Full throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar and mark your calendar. We look forward to seeing there. I promise you will enjoy the ride, raffles, food, and the camaraderie.

By: Old Spook Gary Sinese of Forrest Gump fame has long been associated with helping veteran’s causes. September 13-14 was no exception. The Lt. Dan Band hosted one of the largest fundraisers for veterans that Charleston, SC has ever seen. Mr. Sinese has aligned himself with The Independence Fund (IndependenceFund.org), headed by Steve Danyluk, the organizer for this year’s event. The past 3 years the event was held in Beaufort. Mr. Danyluk, with the support of the Citadel scheduled the event in Johnson Hagood Stadium where 12,000 people were expected to attend. Mr. Danyluk’s contention that Charleston would offer a higher profile for his event than it did in Beaufort was realized. “It’s just the right thing to do,” he said. “We’re bringing more veterans, and we’re reaching more people and getting more attention.” On Friday, September 13, prior to the event, John Evans, Patriot Guard Riders’ Captain escorted about 80 wounded warriors and their caregivers from Beaufort who are staying all week and participating in activities at the Palm Key Independence Center near Ridgeland. A free dinner was also arranged for these soldiers. The VFW, American Legion, and many other veteran’s groups assisted in security, parking, and escorting the wounded veterans. The event was a smashing success. Over $200,000 was raised for the Independence Fund, which helps to supply motorized wheelchairs called “Traks” to the veterans that allow them to literally go “off road”. The fund also provides for specialized treatments not covered by the VA such as Barometric Chamber treatment, which has recently shown to be effective in the treatment of traumatic brain injuries, an endemic problem with our returning troops. A special Harley Fat Boy was auctioned off for $100,000 to a buyer in Washington state. Gary Sinese personally signed the bike. It is the Stars And Bars Tavern at 723 Klumac Road just one block North of I-85 off Jake Alexander Boulevard. Tim Rogers is the proud new owner of this ever improving watering hole. If you missed the Heat Of Summer Party on Aug. 23rd-24th, all is not lost! Tim has plans for more bands outdoors with a cool fire pit to keep you warm in the cooler months. This party got started on Friday and continued on into the night on Saturday. The scheduled band had to cancel due to the illness of some of the band members, so Tim switched gears and had another band on the premises pronto! A couple of the band members played with the Head Hunters some years ago. The name of this band is “Creton” and they wail pretty good, really good, actually. I’m pretty sure they’ll be back. DJ Lee was spinning the karaoke tunes for the folks inside the tavern. There were some regulars kicking it and some I’d guess were first-timers. Some of the singers were pretty good and I’m not calling out any names, but some of them could use a little work, like a day job, don’t quit it! But, seriously folks, this was another great party by Tim Rogers and the Stars and Bars Tavern crew. Keep an eye out for their monthly ad here in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine for their specials, or just run on down and surprise yourself and some of the locals. Most of the pictures turned out real fuzzy. I don’t know if I need a new camera or the people at this bar were moving really fast, but I’m going to check the camera anyway. If you have more water than you intended, he can direct you to a place to pitch the tent out back!

By; Mark Infield This is one of my favorite events because it is unique. Billed as NC’s largest vintage motorcycle and scooter show, there are no cookie cutter machines here. What you will find is the finest and the worst examples of Japanese, European, British motorcycles and scooters with a few American bikes lining Main Street of Durham’s Brightleaf District. There are examples of motorcycles from my youth with chrome fenders and vertical twin engines along with a gathering of scooters that peak my interest - not to ride, but to look at. Some are for sale and there were “tech sessions” on various subjects throughout the day. The epicenter of the rally is the Casbah, which is a college town music venue on regular weekends. They have a great bar with micro brews and bottled beer as well as liquor and wine. The stage is the site of the awards presentations and music and burlesque shows later in the evening. This year the music included Straight 8’s, Kelley and the Cowboys, Motobilly, Sean K. Preston and Phatlynx. The event actually starts on Friday night with registration and a kick off party. Then it falls in to the all day Saturday show and continues into a brunch and ride on Sunday. This year’s sponsors included Ray Price Triumph, Combustion Cycles, Monk Me-

Smokin’ Harley-Davidson Open House By: Caroline It was hard to know where to start when I arrived at Smokin’ Harley Davidson’s big event on Saturday, September 14th. Undoubtedly, the main draw was the seminars held every hour and the new 2014 Harley Motorcycles. I got there just in time as Crysten was demonstrating the new features on the new Ultra Limited. You would not believe all the features! To start with they have redone all the Tour Paks with one touch latches and LED lights. There are LED lights with fog lamps to help you see better at night as well. There is also a linked braking system with anti-lock braking system to help make the rider safer and more confident. Then for those of us who like our music and other techno gadgets, this bike has an awesome infotainment system. Harley-Davidson has designed these new 2014 touring bikes after listening to their customers and implementing their ideas. I would say this takes motorcycle riding to a completely new level! Also, Freeborne’s South had plenty going on the same day. They hosted a ride to raise funds for a critically ill teenager, Kinsley White. She is currently at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota but biker friends came out to donate for her medical expenses. The folks at Freeborne’s South made sure there was plenty of entertainment with bands beginning at 2 o’clock that afternoon on up to midnight. I got there just in time to hear a local favorite, Double Shot.

11th Annual Catawba County Shriners Poker Run

Story and photo by Alan Dockery After a wet summer, it sure was nice to have a great riding day for the 11th Annual Catawba County Shrine Clubâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Poker Run. 325 riders left Hickory, NC, that morning for a ride through the foothills. By mid-afternoon the parking lot at the Shrine Club in Newton was quickly filling with bikers as they returned. While folks turned in their hands, the Shrine Club served all the riders and volunteers BBQ. Outside, DJ â&#x20AC;&#x153;Doc Hollywoodâ&#x20AC;? Crump kept us entertained. Once folks finished eating we headed outside for a bunch of door prizes. This ride gets so many sponsors and prizes that some were used for a silent auction, others handed out by ticket drawing, and some tossed to the crowd. Many of us have participated in all eleven years of this ride since several of us locals helped start it. This annual poker run has become one of the major fundraisers that the Catawba County Shrine Club holds throughout the year to support the Shriners Burn Hospital in Greenville, SC. This year they

Story and photo by Alan Dockery Despite rainouts and rescheduling, flat track motorcycle racers and fans have hung in there to enjoy a great season of racing at Woodleaf Speedway in North Carolina. Only a couple races remain so if you want to see good old-fashioned flat tracking plan a ride to Woodleaf for October 12 or the daytime race on November 16. Weather was nice for the September 14th race and looked like a good turnout. They run lots of classes so everyone from kids to old guys can get in on the fun. By: Caroline For those of you who saw this year’s ride in the Just Hawg’s ad in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and thought this might be a good ride to go on, did not realize what a great ride you were about to take part in. For those of you who are familiar with the fine folks who put this ride on each August, know that James and Dolores are long time sweethearts and decided to make this a special event by tying the knot. You heard right! This special event took place on Sunday, August 18th at that most awesome overlook that we always stop in Squirrel Spur. I can’t think of a more beautiful setting with everyone’s bikes lined up to make an aisle for the bride to walk down. As a special surprise, Danny Martin brought his guitar to serenade the whole ceremony. It was quite a sight to see the couple ride off with the bride’s veil trailing in the wind while passing vehicles honked their well wishes! Back at the shop, a crew was setting up for a wedding reception and cake cutting. Business partner Jim Robinson was directing a host of family and friends for the riders return. I know that all who know James and Delores will join me in wishing this awesome couple all the best and a long happy life ahead. By: Rick Gammons Remember when you were 16? The ability to drive, girls (or guys), proms, parties with friends, getting into trouble, or travel with a new found freedom of the coming of age. Kinsley, a drop dead gorgeous 16-year-old woman, doesn’t have the luxury of experiencing these things. She suffers from a neurological disorder called Chiari Malformation. The explanation was a bit weird to me. I have never heard of a situation like this before. The bottom part of her brain descends out of the bottom of the skull and crowds the spinal cord putting pressure on the brain and spine disrupting the flow of cerebrospinal fluid. There is no cure and she can no longer be left alone. She suffers from headache, balance problems, shortness of breath, neck and back pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, and passes out several times a day. When I arrived at Fat Mac Pork Schop on Saturday, August 24th, Kinsley had passed out in the van that she arrived in. This happened six times during her stay at Fat Macs, but, being the trooper she is, she was soon back with her friends and family and actually stayed until 9 or 10 pm. She finally gave in and left for home after a long day. Fat Mac’s Pork Schop really stepped up for Kinsley, plus provided great food, beer and drinks, and games. That morning was breakfast and registration for the ride! Have you been to a ride that served you breakfast lately? Good job guys! About 11am, 60 bikes left Fat Macs and headed up Main Street, to HWY 311 and south on their way to Tuckertown Lake and back. No bars or clubs, just an easy ride in the country. Meanwhile, back at Fat Mac’s, they were getting ready for

corn hole. There were two tournaments – bring a partner or random draw. Then, they had a long shot tournament. How far do you think you can toss an on the money throw at long distance? (Come over here and see this coming weekend). There was more corn holin’ going on there than I have seen anywhere lately. At 5 pm, The Invaders had a concert session. The style was “older rock” as one young lady told me. To me, older rock is The Doors or The Stones. Bet her parents were not born then. Oh well, good tempered rock prevailed through the evening. The 50/50 and silent auction awarded fine artifacts and money, of which half was donated back for Tinsley. You know, the whole day was over the top. $2600 was raised for Kinsley. By: Sarah Hager On August 18th, The Ray Price Akea Drag Racing Team made history at Seattle’s Pacific Raceways track by setting a new track record for Nitro Harley. Rider Tommy Grimes beat the number one qualifier in the finals with the record-setting pass of 6.193 seconds at 242.54 MPH. Grimes’ first pass of the weekend in qualifiers was 6.510 seconds at 218.19 MPH. With each pass, Grimes continued to shave off time. His second pass was 6.372 seconds at 215.41 MPH, and then he positioned himself into the number two qualifier position with another quick run of 6.317 seconds at 221.34 MPH to Steve Dorn, the number one qualifier with a time of 6.289 seconds at 220.04 MPH. The first elimination round placed Grimes racing against Dana Meeks. Grimes came out on top with a run of 6.308 seconds at 229.86 MPH. He beat Mike Pelrine next with a time of 6.248 seconds at 231.68 MPH, bringing him to the final round against Steve Dorn. This was Grimes’ best run of the season,

running 6.193 seconds at 242.54 MPH. “It was a great weekend,” Ray Price said. “The track personnel did a great job preparing the track and made it a fun weekend of racing. Our team did a fantastic job of reading the track and dialing the bike to maximize the performance of each pass and Tommy did a superb job of riding the bike and making each pass count.” The Ray Price Motorsports team sends sincere thanks to all their sponsors for their support. A couple was getting ready to go to a Halloween party but the wife had a terrible headache. She told her husband to go anyway. After a short argument he agreed, and she took some aspirin and went to bed. Later she awoke and felt great, so she decided to go to the party and see what her hubby did when she wasn’t around. As soon as she arrived, she noticed him on the dance floor getting very friendly with every hottie in the place, and groping them when he could. She then cut in and rubbed close to him. When the song ended, he leaned over and whispered in her ear, “Let’s go outside.” So the two costumed characters snuck off and occupied themselves in one of the parked cars. Midnight was to be the unveiling of the partygoers, so she slipped out and went home before the clock struck twelve. When he got home she asked, “How was the party? Did you meet any interesting people?” He replied, ‘‘you know me, dear. I don’t have a good time when you’re not with me. I ran into a few friends and we ended up in the basement playing poker. It wasn’t very fun at all. But the guy I loaned my costume to had the time of his life!”

A guy is looking for a place to sit in a crowded university library. He asked a girl: “Do you mind if I sit beside you?” The girl replied in a loud voice: “I don’t want to spend the night with you!” All the students in the library started staring at the guy; He was truly embarrassed and moved to another table. After a couple of minutes, the girl walked quietly to the guy’s table and said with a laugh: “I study psychology, and I know what a man is thinking. I guess you felt embarrassed, right?” The guy then responded in a loud voice: “$500 for one night? . . . That’s too much!” All the people in the library looked at the girl in shock. The guy whispered to her: “I study law, and I know how to screw people.”

A man was sitting on a lawn sunning and reading, when he was startled by a fairly late model car crashing through a hedge and coming to rest on his lawn. He helped the elderly driver out and sat her on a lawn chair. “My goodness” he exclaimed, “you are quite old to be driving!” “Yes” she replied,” I am old enough that I don’t need a license anymore. The last time I went to my doctor he examined me, and asked if I had a driver’s license. I told him yes and handed it to him. He took scissors out of a drawer, cut the license into pieces and threw them in the wastebasket.” ”You won’t be needing this anymore,” he said. “So I thanked him and left.”

An elderly man in Louisiana had owned a large farm for several years. He had a large pond in the back. It was properly shaped for swimming, so he fixed it up nice with picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some apple and peach trees. One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn’t been there for a while, and look it over. He grabbed a five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond. A construction worker on the third floor of a building needs a handsaw. He sees one of the laborers on the first floor and yells down to him, but the man indicates that he can’t hear. So, the guy on the third floor tries to use signs. He points to his eye, meaning, “I”, then at his knee, meaning, “need”, then he moves his hand back and forth, meaning, “handsaw”. The man on the first floor nods then drops his pants and begins to masturbate. The man on the third floor freaks out and runs down to the first floor yelling, ‘’What the hell is wrong with you! The assistant explains, ‘‘This parrot is a very special one. He knows typewriting and can type really fast.’’ ‘‘What about the green one?’’ the man asks. The assistant says, ‘’He costs $5000 because he knows typewriting and can answer incoming telephone calls and takes notes.’’ ‘’What about the red one?’’ the man asks. The assistant says, ‘‘that one’s $10,000.’’ The man says, ‘‘what does he do?’’ The assistant says, ‘’I don’t know, but the other two call him boss.’’

Patriots Come Out For 9-11 Memorial Towers Memorial Gardens in the outer ring of Broadway at the Beach. It has been many years since I have seen so many motorcycles on the property and it was a great experience just to be there, with the bagpipes playing and so many living heroes on a bent knee in reverence for all those we lost on that day. All too soon, it was off to Calli Bakers Firehouse Grill at the Myrtle Beach Mall for more salutes and some sorely needed refreshments. The day was gorgeous and the sun shone bright, even as we all headed south down Highway #17 for the final stop at the new and improved ACME Bar and Grill in Murrell’s Inlet. It was a good, long day of remembrance spent with all of our local patriots and heroes. 9-11 is a day that will forever remain etched into our collective psyche and it was good to see so many that came out to remember such a terrible piece of history. Special thanks to all our first responders, veterans, and patriots that came out to ride and remember. All proceeds went to benefit the Horry County Firefighters Relief Fund and, wherever you were on that day, I hope that you took the time to remember. WE THE PEOPLE, will never forget.

By: Everette “EZ” Short No matter who you are, if you are old enough to ride a motorcycle, then you remember where you were and what it felt like to live through the morning of September 11th, 2001. Twelve years later, the scars and memories have not faded and most of us have not forgotten the feelings of helplessness and terror that watching the twin towers fall brought directly into every single one of our lives. Here at the beach, on September 11th of this year, hundreds showed up early at Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson to join in a memorial ride honoring the 12th anniversary for all our fallen heroes from 9-11. The line of bikes, all in a row, was long at the dealership when I got there and it just kept growing, as Nibils restaurant of Myrtle Beach served up their fantastic breakfast under a big circus tent. There was even a commemorative pin given to the first 100 riders. The first stop was at Remedies Bar and Grill on the edge of Myrtle Beach, off the Highway #17 By-pass. Rocket and his team of mixoligists were slinging the food and drink with a quickness, as the crowd just kept growing until bikes were literally wrapped around the building. Then, it was up the road to Broadway At The Beach for a wreath laying ceremony and several heart felt testimonials from special guests and several from the gathered crowd. I have to send out a big THANK YOU to The SC Axmen and the Blue Knights, who organized the ride and a most wonderful, tear filled ceremony at the Twin

By: Darby Dillard August 17, 2013 was a very rainy cool day. However, the support shown for the children at this home was overwhelming. There were a few hardcore bikers riding. But, like I always say, “You don’t have to ride a motorcycle to come join us at the home!” Most of us just happen to ride. The turnout was tremendous. Especially for a day like we had. I would like to thank our long time supporters Speedway H-D, The Buffalo Troopers, Law Petroleum, Portia’s Pastries, Smiley’s Cycle Works, United Claims, M&M Landscaping, J.T.’s Floor Coverings, Standard Contracting Inc., Sic Customs, Betty’s Gang, and The Rockwell Gang, and just as important, if not more important, each and everyone who supported the children by bringing a gift from the wish list. Thank you very much! We need all of the support we can get and every donation, from the smallest to the largest, is very much appreciated. They are all very important! I can’t stress that enough. It’s always a pleasure to see everyone! Plus, it’s always a pleasure to meet newcomers when they attend. I know personal schedules keep some from attending, but it’s always good to see you when you’re with us. So, if you haven’t visited lately, we miss you and would love to see you soon. American Legion Riders Post 179 911 Commemorative Run

General Livingston and ROTC Cadets By: Old Spook American Legion Riders hosted the 911 Commemorative Poker Run on September 7th in support of the families of soldiers who have died in the line of duty during our war on terror. Since 911, many of the families of soldiers are now single parent households with less of an opportunity to send their children to college. The American Legion Riders stepped in to support these families in their time of need. This run was an opportunity to help a low country family, the

Yecke’s, who lost their husband and father, First Sergeant Paul Yecke, 2 years ago after serving 26 years in the Air Force. Mrs. Yecke’s son, Caleb, is due to attend college and the fund set up by the Legion Riders will help him do that. The run proved quite successful and $2750 was raised to benefit Caleb’s college fund. The 4th annual running of the event, was strongly supported by the local community. Thanks to the Legion Rider’s positive image of bikers in the low country, over 35 sponsors stepped forward to participate in the event. The stops included Northridge Custom Cycle, Badd Kitty, Parson Jack’s, the Fillin Station, Whaley’s, and the Pavilion. Greg Lenox of the Francis Marion Hotel in downtown Charleston generously donated $1000 to the scholarship fun. The after party was held at the Pavilion, which featured a flag line and honor guard hosted by Master Chief Tim Strickland, head instructor of the ROTC program at West Ashley High School. More than 20 cadets participated in the honor guard that introduced Major General Livingston, a Medal of Honor recipient. After the check was present to Mrs. Yecke, she addressed the crowd and told them how touched she was by this support of her husband’s service. She pointed out that many of the troops coming home are experiencing unusual medical problems that the Armed Forces have not been able to diagnose. There weren’t many dry eyes in the house after her talk.

Gorby’s Machine Is Rolling

By: Everette “EZ” Short In the middle of Ohio, Bill Gorby had a dream. When he bought his first HarleyDavidson Fat Boy in 1999, he wanted all the cool upgrades that make a bike stand out. Unfortunately, working in a machine shop next to the Quaker City Dragstrip in Salem, he didn’t have the money for custom wheels and parts. So, he began making his own. When he etched and cut his wheels with a bar and shield design punched straight through them, everyone wanted a pair. Bill quickly began buying up wheels and stock parts, etching, cutting, and selling more than he could keep up with. When his wheels caught the attention of Rick Hoffman from Logic Motorcycles, the die was cast that would lead him to open a shop on the shores of South Carolina. By 2002, Bill had a plan, when Gorby’s Machine rolled out to cut wheels and parts from a new 5,000 square foot design lab in Myrtle Beach. Today, if your eyes get caught up on a big-wheeled monster like the Cross Country Cruiser from Victory or a Camtech

Custom Bagger, then you’ve seen the fantastic works of Gorby’s Machine. Their most recent creation is a recordbreaking 32” spinner that was brought to life before a tire had even been released to wrap around these killer cuts of spinning aluminum. NHRA Division Race At Bristol

Story and photo by Alan Dockery On the first weekend of September, the thunder of Harley-Davidson drag bikes filled the valley at Bristol Dragway as part of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series presented by Frito Lay. This is the National Hot Rod Association divisional racing series which, starting this year, includes Harleys. Bristol was the ninth of the ten race series for the motorcycles. The new Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series includes Top Fuel, Pro Dragster, Pro Gas, Street Pro, Hot Street, and Draggin’ Bagger classes. Half of the eight-bike Top Fuel field was from North Carolina. Mark Cox, Wilkesboro, NC; Tommy Grimes, Winston-Salem, NC; Jay Turner, Julian, NC, and Tracy Kile, Asheville, NC, qualified for Saturday’s eliminations. Tommy rode the Ray Price/Akea Harley-Davidson machine to the final round, but lost to Doug Horne. Dale Nilles, Wilkesboro, NC, qualified at the top of the Pro Dragster field. Dale had a great year in the Harley series winning four times. Johnny Vickers, Millers Creek, NC, qualified fourth, but put the rest of the field on the trailer as he took the class win. “The season went better than expected,” said Kris Schoonover, Harley-Davidson Racing Manager. “Top Fuel was more

By: Scott Wicker On Saturday, August 3rd, friends, family, and supporters gathered to raise funds for the family of Amy Huskey and her baby daughter, Khloe. Amy and Khloe died tragically in an automobile accident in Northern Alamance County in the early hours of Thursday, July 18th. Amy is survived by her two daughters and fiancé. Amy was a day care worker and she and Khloe will be truly missed by family and friends. The ride started at Lucky’s Saloon at 12 noon on August 3rd. Stops included Backstreet Bar in Burlington, B Friendly’s in Burlington, The Old Ski Lodge in Ossipee, and Cuz’s in the Hopedale Community.

Once back at Lucky’s, everyone was provided with great entertainment and delicious food. In all, over $2600 was raised to help the family of these two precious people. Our prayers go out to Amy and Khloe’s family. Thanks to everyone who unselfishly came out for this benefit. Thanks also goes out to Lucky’s Saloon for hosting the event. Ride safe!

NHRA Carolina Nationals At zMAX Dragway Story and photo by Alan Dockery The National Hot Rod Association made their second stop of the year at zMAX Dragway, Concord, NC, in September for the Carlyle Tools Carolina Nationals presented by NAPA Auto Parts. Three Carolina racers made the highly competitive field during the weekend at the country’s finest dragstrip. The Carolina Nationals was the first race in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship where they reset the points for the top ten teams and started the championship chase. Several of the racers and teams in the Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Stock Car classes are from the Carolinas. But I was there to cheer on the three North Carolina teams running Pro Stock Motorcycle. Matt Smith, King, NC, has had a great season on the Viper Motorcycle Company Buell. The 2007 NHRA National Champ came into the Countdown second in points. At the Carolina Nationals Matt dominated qualifying taking the number one spot. Angie Smith, King, NC, put the Stocksteth Buell in the field at 14th. Shawn Gann, Stoneville, NC, qualified his Pirana Z Racing Buell 13th in the 16-bike Pro Stock Motorcycle field. Eliminations didn’t go as well for the Carolina teams. Shawn and Angie both lost in the first round. Matt lost on a hole shot in the second round to eventual winner Andrew Hines on the

Matt Smith was second in NHRA National Points at the start of the Countdown to the Championship Screamin’ Eagle, Vance & Hines, Harley-Davidson V-Rod. He left zMAX second in national points. As the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle class winds down for the season, we motorcycle drag racing fans will stay tuned in and hopefully cheer Matt on to another national championship.

Thunder In The Smokies Fall Motorcycle Rally By: WildThing The weather on the weekend of September 13-15 was nearly perfect! First of all it did not rain, with beautiful blue shies and puffy clouds, and the temps were in the 60’s and low 70’s, and no humidity. Mother Nature surely smiled on Chris and Lori and they did a fantastic job of procuring music, a variety of vendors, and contests to make this weekend spectacular. Our first stop Friday evening after checking into our hotel was Salty Dogs for some of their great wings and cold beer. Then we rode over to the Maggie Valley Festival Grounds where Mickie James and her band were rocking out the tunes to a background cacophony of roaring motorcycles. The grounds was tightly packed with neat rows of bikes as the riders enjoyed the music, visited the vendors, or just converged on the tables near the bar to relax and enjoy. The lights at the vendors’ tents created halo around the perimeter of the festival grounds and beckoned bikers to come see what they were offering. At the food vendors, all you had to do is follow your nose! After a hearty breakfast at Country Vittles on Saturday morning, we stopped by Wheels Through Time Museum to see what acquisitions Dale Walksler had added to the Museum and to compliment Dale and his son, Matt, on their new reality show: “What’s in the Barn”. We moved on to the festival grounds in time for the bike show. This show was free to enter and attracted all makes and models. Lanier Law Group sponsored the $500 prize. When rally goers rode through the gate in the morning, they received a red ticket to vote on their favorite bike in the show. There were 32 bikes that I counted and the competition was stiff. After an hour, Chris had his girls count the red tickets in the upturned helmet beside the front wheel of the bikes and the people chose a highly decorated, patriotic, veteran themed 1999 Kawasaki Drifter, owned by Chief. It is an impressive motorcycle. Next on the entertainment schedule was the bike games sponsored by Richard Lester’s chain of A.I.M. (Aid to Injured Motorcyclists) attorneys. They held the slow race first and the top three challenged each other to a grudge runoff that was supposed to take place at the end of the games but by then I think the grudge had been forgotten! The traditional weenie bite was next and had so many con-

testants they only held one heat. Only 2 of the 17 caught a bite of the weenie and the size of the bite determined the winner! Chris had a new game this year that he called “bouncing boobies”. He provided 4 of those inflated hopper balls that the women had to ‘hop’ down the course to their partner and he had to ‘hop’ back to win. As you can imagine, the spills some of the contestants took kept everyone laughing. The final game played is like musical chairs only the women ride on the back of their partner’s motorcycle in a circle until the signal is given to jump off and dig for a can of beer in a pile of straw. There is always one less than the number of contestants, so the winner is declared by process of elimination. Only the hardy, non-asthmatic play this one! Thanks to the Christian Motorcyclists’ Association members who assisted Chris with all the bike games. After the bike games, there was a logging demonstration and the opening band, Adam Dean Mullins took the stage at 5:30. A lot of folks, including Mark & I, left after the games for a bite to eat and returned in the evening to rock the night away with Cody McCarver. It was a beautiful cool evening, just right to cap off the exciting day. Sunday morning was another beautiful day and if the rally goers had time, there was a free pancake breakfast at the Festival Grounds and a church service at 10am with live music. It was so nice after all the rain we’ve endured this summer, that I’m sure the open road beckoned many riders. And so it goes, another good rally is in the archives of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. Marion Moose Riders 9th Annual Bike Show By: Trudi Ashby Wow, Aug 31st started off with all our wonderful volunteers getting everything set up and ready for a great day of events. Then while we were still working we grabbed a biscuit and kept going. The vendors started arriving at 7:30 and starting filling up the parking lot. Thanks to all the vendors that came out and btw, vendor spots are free for those who would like to come next year. Then the bikes started rolling in around 9:30. We had a total of 59 bikes enter our show this year. All bike entrees received a free lunch ticket with registration. Lunch began at 11:30 and the line was served until the food ran out. The judging began at 12:00 and they had hard decisions to make but trophies were presented at 12:30. Our trophies were made by Broken Spoke out of Asheville, NC. Here is a list of our winning bikes this year. Burn Out: Will Singleton. People’s Choice Bike: Teresa Burns. Vintage Class: 1st Place - Ronnie Watts. Sportster Class: 1st Place - Lisa Sparks. Metric Class: 1st Place - Rick Harding, 2nd Place: Chief. Custom Class: 1st Place - Kyle Waters, 2nd Place - Brian Blanton. Touring Class: 1st Place - Terry Bartlett, 2nd Place - Mike Frederick. Big Twin Class: 1st Place - Clutch Hogan, 2nd Place - Teresa Burns. Other Class: 1st Place - Sydney Ball, 2nd Place SunShine McCurry. Kids Class: 1st Place - Darren Broom. Our burn out pit had 3 entrees this year. Lots of rubber was burned and the winner received $100 towards a new tire. (I wonder how much that tire actually cost?). Bike games started at 1:30 and the weenie bite was the crowded area. Then down came the rain and hard. Everyone ran for cover. Silent auction items were picked up and the rain continued to come down. We tried to wait it out but with no luck. We gave away the 50/50 and finally the big event of the day, the raffle for the 2003 Anniversary Edition 1200 Harley-Davidson Sportster. The winner of the bike was Julia Begley from Spruce Pine, NC. Congrats to you. All of the proceeds from this event benefitted Needy Kids Christmas in McDowell County. By: Rick Gammons What do you normally do on Sunday afternoon? Most bikers are finishing that last beer or two before heading to the house before dark. Those of us that do not subscribe to this kind of Sunday wound up at Fat Mac Pork Schop (AGAIN!) for an evening of bluegrass. The Double H Bluegrass Band put on quite a performance. There were a lot of standard bluegrass songs by the likes of Johnny Cash and Bill Monroe. They also did some bluegrass tributes to Janis Joplin and The Eagles. The BBQ complimented the music and was incredible, as usual. Beer and drink specials topped off the experience. Sometimes spectacular events happen at the tail end of the weekend. Shutting down early sometime means missing little gems that happen at odd times. When I interviewed Janis about Fat Mac, she told me that she wants something going on all the time. For a company in startup, she is well on her way. It’s going to be tough for other business in the area to keep up. Good luck Janis. I’ll see you soon, and I will be hungry! Peace Do you ever get that feeling that you would like time to stand still just for a few minutes so you could get some peace and quiet? Sometimes life gets so busy and there are just too many deadlines, due dates, and past due notices. We have a tendency to get so caught up in racing the clock, trying to buy some time, and extending the date, that we just get over come with frustration. Now, don’t get me wrong the dates and times and work and bills are all important, and part of our daily lives, but sometimes they just seem to take over and push us and pressure us and we find ourselves worked up, agitated, to the point that we can’t even sleep. So, as I thought about all this, I realized that the one thing that is missing in all this is peace. People always say we need “world peace” and in the 60s and 70s, “peace” was what we all wanted and searched for. So, I looked up peace in the Dictionary: “Peace - a state in which there is no war or fighting, freedom from disturbance, quiet and tranquility.” After reading the definition, I realized we are all lacking in this area in some ways. So, how do we find peace today? In the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans, Chapter 8 verse 6 says, “So let-

ting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.” Psalm 29:11 also tells us, “The Lord gives His people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.” The Word of God tells us that being lead by the spirit we find peace and it also says the Lord blesses us with peace. If you are caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and trying to find some peace for you life, look no further. Jesus is offering us peace and and blessings today! I’ll leave you with a verse to think about. Philippians 4:6-7; “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” No Jesus - no peace or know Jesus - know peace! Ask Jesus for peace. Pray the biker’s prayer on this page. Mean it in your heart as you pray it out loud and experience the peace that passes all understanding. Love and Prayers, Robin St. John
