Punxsutawney Phil was right! Spring did come early this year. There were plenty of days LETTER FROM in March that were pleasant enough to ride and THE EDITOR many were out in shirtsleeves! As I worked on Saturday finishing up this issue, I heard many motorcycles go by the office. I had to pass on a lunch ride on an 80º day to get this issue done! I know that there are many more nice days ahead and I am going to take advantage of them. Please look at The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar and note than there are several date changes this year. Cherokee Survivors rally has been cancelled. Thunder In The Smokies has moved their usual April date to May 12-15. Check your reservations to be sure you are hooked up for the right dates. There is also a new AHDRA spring race at Rockingham on the weekend of April 30 – May 1. The Outer Banks Bike Week is slated for April 16-24. There are many more, too many to list here, but that’s exactly what we did in the Cruisin’ Calendar! Be sure to check online at www.FullThrottleMagazine.com for events that came in after this issue went to print. Bike nights are starting up again. Check out our advertisers’ bike nights on our web site or our weekly newsletter. If you do not get our weekly events update, you can register by going to the “Everything Else” button on our home page and clicking on “Subscribe”. It’s FREE! Each week, we will e-mail you all the events that are going on that weekend. If you are interested in having a Full Throttle Bike Night, contact us and we will give you the details and schedule one for you. If any of you went to Daytona and got pulled over for a motorcycle only “safety inspection” on I-95 in Georgia, I would like to hear from you. There are those of us who think these stops funded by grants from NHTSA are unconstitutional profiling and hope to do something about it. E-mail me at Mark@ FTCarolinas.com or call 336-885-5400. If you participate, it will not cost you anything but your time. If you don’t, it might end up costing you everything! H392 Modify Motorcycle Helmet Requirements has passed first reading in the NC House and will be scheduled for hearing in the House Transportation Committee. This is the best chance we have had to change the NC helmet law in years. Contact your representatives and ask them to support H392. Freedom is not a spectator sport and if you want to continue to enjoy liberty, you are going to have to get involved. Ride Free

“The ordaining of laws in favor of one part of the nation, to the prejudice and oppression of another, is certainly the most erroneous and mistaken policy. An equal dispensation of protection, rights, privileges, and advantages, is what every part is entitled to, and ought to enjoy.” Benjamin Franklin, Emblematical Representations, 1774

By: Megan Coggins, Chatham Council On Aging February 26th, 2011 marked the day of the 4w Annual Polar Bear Poker Run in Chatham County. It also marked the last Saturday of “We Love Seniors Month” at the Chatham County Council On Aging. Forty-nine (49) bikers bought sixty-three (63) poker hands and raised over $600 for the COA. The weather was a perfect 60º and the participants joined together to show their support for the Council, while also enjoying their common bond - motorcycles. After coffee and conversations provided by COA volunteers during registration hour, the riders left the Pittsboro Senior Center to enjoy a beautiful 65 mile ride through the most scenic parts of Chatham County. The ride was planned by Bruce Miles of Chatham CBA and escorted by nine Chatham County Sheriff’s Deputies riding in seven police cars. They had the route completely blocked off and the group never had to stop at a light or stop sign. However, there was more to be enjoyed besides the picturesque day because a poker game was in progress. Angel Dennison who donated the money back to the COA won first place in the poker run. Second place was won by Butch Ewing, who also donated his winnings back to the COA. Buddy Pease from Apex “won” worst hand and a Lowe’s gift card. At least twenty door prizes were also awarded at the end of the run. The riders ended their route at the Siler City Senior Center to enjoy food and drinks provided by the Concerned Bikers Association/ABATE of Chatham County, Inc. It was definitely a great day for a great cause! Becky Whitley from the Chatham CBA organized the ride. Becky is a very positive, motivated CBA member and her meticulous planning and organization of this charity ride is what made it a success. We’d also like to thank Susan Graham, and Wayne and Debbie Glosson for working the stops. Great job team. The Chatham County Council on Aging (COA) provides programs and services to assist older adults in maintaining quality of life and independence. For more information or to make a donation, please contact Angel Dennison, Executive Director, at (919) 542-4512. Take a virtual ride on the Chatham Co. Motorcycle Only Checkpoints And The Fourth Amendment
By: Matt Danielson, McGrath Motorcycle Law Group For the past several years, motorcyclists across the country have been hearing about motorcycle only checkpoints. Let me now go on record as being vehemently opposed to such checkpoints as I believe that they serve no purpose. Motorcycle only checkpoints are checkpoints where only motorcycles are stopped in order to check for operating licenses, safety equipment, etc. In New York, motorcyclists have challenged the legality of such checkpoints due to the method in which they are being conducted (we will come back to New York later in this article). Georgia has announced that they will begin conducting motorcycle only checkpoints in March to coincide with Daytona Bike week. For the past year and a half I have been traveling throughout various states speaking about “Your Rights During a Traffic Stop.” The issue of motorcycle only checkpoints always comes up. Are these legal? Isn’t it discrimination? How can we fight these? The answer to those questions in order is probably but it depends, yes but discrimination is not illegal, and vigilance. Now that I have given you the short answers let’s dig a little deeper into the Fourth Amendment and discuss how the United States Constitution addresses traffic stops and more specifically checkpoints. That will give us a better understanding of these motorcycle only checkpoints. The Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution, among other things, prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures. When you are riding down the road and all of the sudden those blue lights come on behind you, you are being seized. The officer behind you is not extending to you an invitation to stop and chat. He is commanding you to cease your movement and submit to his authority under penalty of law. That is a seizure. As such, the officer must have reasonable suspicion of criminal activity before he can stop a person in that manner. In the 1979 U.S. Supreme Court Case of Delaware v. Prouse, the Supreme Court held that a random stop of a motorist in order to verify that the motorist was licensed was unconstitutional. The court concluded that “except in those situations in which there is at least articulable and reasonable suspicion that a motorist is unlicensed or that an automobile is not registered, or that either the vehicle or an occupant is otherwise subject to seizure for violation of law, stopping an automobile and detaining the driver in order to check his driver’s license and the registration of the automobile are unreasonable under the Fourth Amendment.” However, interestingly the court went on as follows: This holding does not preclude the State of Delaware or other States from developing methods for spot checks that involve less intrusion or that do not involve the unconstrained exercise of discretion. Questioning of all oncoming traffic at roadblocktype stops is one possible alternative. These roadblock-type stops (checkpoints) are an exception to the reasonable suspicion requirement of the Fourth Amendment. At a checkpoint, the officers stop everyone who comes through. Each stop lacks any suspicion of criminal activity, yet under
certain circumstances the US Supreme Court has said that the lack of reasonable suspicion does not violate the Fourth Amendment because the stop is still reasonable. When the program is designed to serve special needs, beyond the normal need for law enforcement, checkpoints have been held to be valid, provided that the detention is brief and the officers conducting the checkpoint do not have discretion over whom they stop. For instance, the checkpoint plan may call for stopping every vehicle or every third vehicle but it may not allow the officers to stop only those motorists that are deemed suspicious. Checkpoints, which comply with these standards, have been upheld when the purpose was to intercept illegal aliens near the border due to the unique problem and interest in securing our borders. Unites States v. Martinez-Fuerte, 428 U.S. 543 (1976). Sobriety checkpoints have been allowed due to the immediate hazard posed by drunk drivers and the State’s interest in getting drunk drivers off of the roads. Michigan Dept. of State Police v. Sitz, 496 U.S. 444 (1990). In Delaware v. Prouse The U.S. Supreme Court suggested that such checkpoints would be appropriate to spot check for motorist’s drivers license and vehicle registration due to the State’s interest in ensuring that only those qualified to do so are permitted to operate motor vehicles and that such motor vehicles are fit for safe operation. 440 U.S. 648 (1979). However, checkpoints have never been allowed in order to detect evidence of general criminal wrongdoing. In 2000 the US Supreme Court struck down an Indianapolis, Indiana program that used checkpoints to detect narcotics violations. City of Indianapolis v. Edmond, 531 U.S. 32 (2000). In that case the court pointed out that in most of the cases which allowed checkpoints the thread of highway safety was present. They stated that there was a difference in the significance of highway safety interests and the general interest in crime control. This brings us to the motorcycle only checkpoints. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has offered law enforcement agencies grant money in order to set up checkpoints aimed solely at motorcyclists. NHTSA argues that such checkpoints are needed due to the problem of motorcycle fatalities and injuries. When I first started receiving calls about these checkpoints the argument I heard most often was that the checkpoints were a form of discrimination. They unfairly discriminated against motorcyclists. That may be true but discrimination is not illegal. WHAT?!? Danielson has lost his mind, you say. No, I have not! Discrimination is generally not illegal unless it is aimed at certain protected classes. The Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment has never meant that all people must be treated the same. That is a myth that we as a society have come to believe. Justice Kennedy pointed this out in the 1996 case of Romer v. Evans. He stated as follows: Yet, from the very beginning the meaning of “equal protection” has at times been confusing, perhaps because the framers of the Fourteenth Amendment left us no explanation of exactly what they meant. On the other hand, the phrase could be read to mean that any law, no matter what common sense suggests, Continued On Page 25

LEAD YOURSELF INTO TEMPTATION
www.FullThrottleMagazine.com Continued From Page 22 will be applied rigidly to all people. Such an extreme notion that laws cannot in any way, shape or manner discriminate among individuals or groups, can become silly. Passing a vision test as a requirement for securing a driver’s license clearly discriminates against people who are blind or have sight impediments, yet this is an appropriate form of distinction. The bottom line is that when it comes to discrimination, it is illegal to discriminate against a protected class. The government cannot discriminate based upon race, religion, etc. It is not illegal to discriminate due to the clothes a person is wearing or the vehicle that he or she operates. In short, motorcyclists are not a protected class for the purposes of the Equal Protection Clause. (This is where I stress that you can hate the message but don’t hate the messenger). So then how do we fight these checkpoints? I think we look to what New York has done. The New York State Police instituted a checkpoint system. It was done in the name of highway safety. However when the motorcycles were pulled over they were checked for more than licenses. They had anti-gang taskforce members searching VIN numbers in order to detect stolen motorcycles. Some motorcyclists were detained for up to 45 minutes. In the end, the majority of tickets written were for equipment violations such as illegal exhausts and the so-called non-approved helmet. A lawsuit has been filed challenging these stops and I believe that it will be successful. Not because the checkpoints are discriminatory but because they do not conform to the rigid guidelines set out by the US Supreme Court. First and foremost, looking for stolen motorcycles is clearly not related to highway safety. That falls under the general interest in crime control. The same can be said for exhaust tickets. I am unaware of any exhaust system that caused an accident or injury. You cannot claim that checking motorcycle exhausts is a matter of highway safety. I would make the same argument for the helmet citations. No helmet has ever caused an accident. Additionally, for many reasons, it is impossible to determine the safety of a helmet by merely visually inspecting it. One would have to conduct a test to determine how the helmet dissipates energy in a crash. Even if one could do that I would find it hard to believe that the statistics concerning people injured in crashes while wearing a so called non-approved helmet would justify this assault on the motorcyclists right to travel free of arbitrary governmental intrusion. For these reasons I believe that motorcyclists in New York will prevail. I further believe that all motorcyclists owe them a debt of gratitude for standing up for the rights of motorcyclists everywhere. We will all continue to monitor this lawsuit. This brings us to Georgia and the other states who want to attempt to utilize motorcycle only checkpoints. Under past US Supreme Court decisions, I do not believe that all motorcycle only checkpoints would be automatically illegal. If the detention were brief and the officers conducting the checkpoints were afforded no discretion in who they stopped then such checkpoints would be, in my opinion, legal so long as they were aimed solely at highway safety. That last part is the Achilles heel of these programs. They are not aimed at highway safety. They are aimed at general crime control. They are aimed at equipment violations that have nothing to do with highway safety. They are aimed at curbing the problem associated with stolen motorcycles. This too has nothing to do with highway safety. I believe that these programs are highly vulnerable to attack. If you or someone you know are involved in one of these checkpoints please contact my firm. We want to keep track of these checkpoints and challenge them whenever possible. This is not an advertisement for business, as we do not charge a fee for this service. We, as motorcyclists, need to keep a close eye on these programs that threaten our right to travel the roads free from unwarranted governmental intrusion. As always if you have any questions or comments concerning this article or any other matters of interest to motorcyclists, please feel free to contact me. 17th Annual Burlington H.O.G. Hospice Bike Show By: Scott Wicker Wet weather and the talk of a bad economy had no effect on this year’s 17th Annual Burlington HOG Hospice Bike Show. In fact, it will go down as the group’s best bike show ever. The event was held at the Holly Hill Mall on February 26th and 27th. A record 112 motorcycles represented 35 categories to raise over $17,500 for Hospice of Alamance and Caswell Counties. Contributions were also raised through sales of 50/50 tickets and a bake sale held at the event. The Softail and Sport Touring Classes tied with the most entries with 21. Each bike had milk jugs tied to the front wheel so spectators could make contributions by putting money in the jug of their favorite bike. As in years past, everyone was allowed to raise contributions prior to the event. Trophies were awarded to those who raised the most in each class and to those who raised the 2nd and 3rd highest amounts also. The Sport Touring Class raised the most money as a class. All the bikes were also judged separately by a panel of judges making it two shows in one. As in years past, the PEOPLE’S CHOICE support was overwhelming. The winners and top finishers in (Determined by Donations to Hospice of Alamance/Caswell) each class are as follows. American Minute With Bill Federer
April 15th - Tax Day On April 15, 1865, President Lincoln died. He was shot the night before in Ford’s Theater. On April 15, 1912, the Titanic sank. It struck an iceberg the night before. In 1954, April 15 became the deadline for Income tax returns. Though the Constitution banned a Federal Income Tax (Art.1, Sec.9), Lincoln passed an emergency income tax to pay for the Civil War. It was repealed in 1873. An income tax was attempted in 1894, but the Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional in Pollock v Farmers’ Loan. In 1913, with World War I threatening, Woodrow Wilson promoted the 16th Amendment, which was a one percent tax on the top one percent richest people. In 1942, with World War II, Franklin Roosevelt passed “the greatest tax bill in American history.” John F. Kennedy stated April 20, 1961: “In meeting the demands of war finance, the individual income tax moved from a selective tax imposed on the wealthy to the means by which the great majority of our citizens participate in paying.” In 1988, President Reagan said: “I believe God did give mankind unlimited gifts to invent, produce and create. And for that reason it would be wrong for governments to devise a tax structure that suppresses those gifts.”

11th Annual Polar Plunge
By: Mark Infield The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office’s 11th Annual “Polar Plunge” was held Saturday, February 26th at Wet & Wild Emerald Pointe in Greensboro, NC. Plungers began arriving at the park at 11 a.m. The jump was scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes was there to welcome everyone to the Polar Plunge. Each jumper had to pledge or raise at least $50 for North Carolina Special Olympics to be able to take the “Plunge”. Many raised much more than the minimum and over $50,000 was raised this year! 238 pledged to plunge, but only 128 were bold enough to jump into the 50º water. HB Ramsey, wearing a pig costume, ceremonially iced the pool with a large bucket of ice. Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Center earned the honor of jumping first by raising $16,000! Davenport, Marvin, Joyce & Co. LLC has been the leading fundraiser in years past and raised over $10,000 this year. Traditionally, DMJ’s entry was a man in a blue suit and brief case who jumped, but this year some younger participants wearing tie dyed shirts represented them. The High Point Police Department had a fairly large group, as did UNCG’s Lambda Chi Alpha, who always steal the show with their outlandish costumes. Weaver Education Center, dressed as penguins complete with large flippers, won the costume contest. Eastern Guilford Middle and High Schools participates and Emerald Pointe sent Neptune to watch over our activities. Triad HOG Chapter was also represented. This year a new category was added. Ten “Junior Jumpers” took the plunge in a special pool set up just for them. Each was awarded a medal for their bravery. Logan’s Roadhouse provided food for the jumpers. This event was sponsored by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department and organized by Master Corporal Cindy Martin. She did an excellent job attending to all the details and was essential in making this event the success that it was. THE ALL NEW & NOW BIKER OWNED & OPERATED Hours: Wed 4pm-9pm Th 4pm-11pm Fri 1pm-Until Sat 11am-Until Sun 1pm-7pm
By: Cpt. Robert A. Stillwell, US Army, Chairman, Carolina Patriot Rovers, Inc. Carolina Patriot Rovers Inc. is committed to training service dogs that will enhance the lives of veterans who have sacrificed so much for our nation, and to provide a therapy companion, free of charge, to servicemen and women with psychological trauma (PTSD). Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is real and even though these wounds are not visible they can be as debilitating as physical injury. Today, as in the past, the conflicts that face our great nation are hard on our servicemen and women. I have seen first hand many instances of combat mission soldiers, who have survived multiple deployments only to come home and succumb to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I have seen many programs providing service dogs to soldiers with physical trauma, however, very few for soldiers who suffer from psychological trauma. The mission became clear. This healing mission is two fold: To rescue dogs and to help and assist veterans who are suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The goal is to partner with local community organizations and animal rescue groups to help adopt and place unwanted dogs. Through these partnerships we will identify dogs with the proper temperament and train-ability. This will help counteract with the chronic pet overpopulation problem that plagues our society. We will commit to the dog’s health with vaccines and spay and neutering as well as their training and socialization to become full time companion therapy dogs for soldiers suffering with PTSD. The function of the service dog is to provide a soldier with a 24hr constant, reassuring, unconditional, loving companion. Once trained and placed these dogs help to occupy the mind and direct their focus on something other than depression. Our hope is the organization will grow to the point where we’ll be able to employ veterans to help with the care and training of these companion dogs. Our plan is to hold mini reunions, where these soldiers come together with their families and dogs. This will also have a benefit side effect of creating a network of support for soldiers who are struggling with common issues while simultaneously giving soldiers skills that may lead to employment in animal care. Visit www.PatriotRovers.org to learn more and to make a donation. CPR Inc. is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization

She got the keys to the bike from Alice Garland, Lottery Executive Director, at Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson in Hickory. This is the third lottery bike presented by Blue Ridge H-D over the years. Foster is the seventh person to receive a motorcycle in the “Win, Choose and Cruise” game. The scratch-off game offered nine motorcycles as prizes and let winners choose between a Harley-Davidson Fat Boy, Heritage Softail Classic, or Road King Classic models. She said she would never forget the day she sat in her kitchen and scratched off the ticket. “The first letter I saw was an R, then I had an A and I just scratched until it said, Harley,” recalled Foster. “I just could not believe it. I’ve never, ever won anything like this. This is really something fantastic.”

Erik McMillan (CEO) and his wife Kisa McMillan accepted the award on behalf of Enigma Cycles and partner Roy Jaynes. Present for the award was Enigma Cycles President Kevin Penrose and Manufacturing Director David Bolt. Attending the award ceremony were some of the top ranked accessory companies, developers and custom builders with the likes of Arlen Ness, Paul Yaffe, Ron Finch, and Jesse Rooke, Performance Machines, J&P Cycles, BDL, and many more. The Enigma Cycles crew would like to express gratitude for the esteemed folks at Easyriders, V-Twin Magazine, Rider Magazine, The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and all the individuals who chose the CAOCS as the “2011 Value Product of the Year”! The CAOCS system is revolutionary in its design. Not only is the CAOCS functional by design, it’s also appealing. The CAOCS has consistently outperformed all tested competitors’ cooling systems by an average of 263%. Reducing engine heat significantly extends the life of the V-Twin engine. At idle, a standard oil cooler unit does very little to protect your engine from overheating. CAOCS is specifically designed to keep the V-Twin engine cool at the times when it is most critical, in heavy traffic, or in stand still conditions. This innovative system is why Enigma Cycles CAOCS was awarded “2011 Value Product of the Year” If you would like to purchase a CAOCS or want to become a dealer, visit www.enigmacycles.com or call 828-294-2000

Erik and Kisa McMillan proudly display the Value Product of the Year Award
At the 2011 V-Twin EXPO World Dealers Show in Cincinnati, Ohio, February 5-7, Enigma Cycles was awarded the coveted “Value Product Of The Year” for their Continuous Airflow Oil Cooling System (C.A.O.C.S.). The company is keyed up for mass production. The Harley-Davidson bagger version (1993-2011) and the Softail version (2001-2011) are now available in limited quantities.

By: Chris DeCou Outer Banks HOG (Harley Owners Group) is a motorcycle club based out of the Outer Banks Harley-Davidson dealership in Harbinger, North Carolina. At our February 9th monthly meeting we collected can goods to be donated to the Beach Food Pantry in Kitty Hawk, NC in the name of Ronnie Tillett who passed on February 9th 2010. Ronnie was an active member who loved to ride, have fun, and especially eat and we dearly miss him. About 34 members present collected at least 150 items for the food bank and they were delivered the next day. We had a potluck dinner at the meeting to celebrate our efforts. The Outer Banks HOG Chapter’s motto is “Ride And Have Fun”. We have a few charities that we support and we help organize the Outer Banks Bike Week. SEA BREEZE REALTY At The
ROYAL GARDEN RESORT red Cove ng! ki Par rs Bike % E 15ay V A S Of M All
By: Angelica Roman One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and shoppers at the Ray Price Parts and Accessories Swap Meet on Saturday, March 5th found a whole lot of treasure. The cool, partly sunny weather allowed everyone to comfortably browse items throughout the day from eleven different vendors who had emptied out their garages. Since Ray was out of town racing, the dealership decided to clean out his garage, too. The dealership opened the “MotorSports Mall” and filled it with Ray’s parts, accessories and memorabilia from his 40 years of racing and selling Harleys. Employees went into the depths of back buildings to dust off items from Ray’s past, including tanks, luggage, rims, pipes, handlebars, and even a Harley-Davidson pinball machine! Several shoppers used carts and wheelbarrows to haul their purchases to their cars after finding great deals. Over two-thirds of Ray’s items were sold by the end of the day. Vendors sold both new and pre-owned items, including chrome stuff, glasses, leather jackets and chaps, seats, and more. Everyone sold something, helping them empty their garages and put cash in their wallets. “I’ve had this stuff sitting in my garage for a while,” said one vendor. “I was able to sell almost everything, and now I have some extra cash to buy new accessories for my bike!” The buyers and lookers were plentiful, and the few not looking to buy found the bargains too good to pass up! With the success and compliments from vendors and buyers, along with the disappointment from those unable to attend, the dealership has decided to host another Parts and Accessories Swap Meet on Saturday, June 4th. We will be opening Ray’s “MotorSports Mall” again and filling it with more parts, accessories, and memorabilia from over the years. To apply for a vendor spot, or for more information go to www.rayprice.com/ events and click on the Swap Meet banner, or call 919-8322261

By: Jeanie Hood Like so many each year Legends Pub holds a breast cancer benefit. The wonderful and unique thing about the Legends Pub Breast Cancer Benefit is the money goes to pay for mammograms for local ladies of Cumberland County, who are unable to obtain the test, and ladies who are “friends and family” of Legends Pub. So, the monies collected stays within the county to help our own. Holly, owner of Legends, says she can’t even remember how many ladies have told her they have battled cancer in the past or have lumps in their breast and cannot afford to have a mammogram. She says, “This is one way the patrons and I can help these ladies. It is our way of giving back & still keeping it in the community.” Holly and Legends give a lot back throughout the year with a benefit of some kind for someone or some cause every month of the year, if not more often. “We Stare Because We Care” tee shirts will be available to help support the cause at the annual “Spring Fling” at Legends March 29th-April 01. It was a great day for a poker run/benefit, too. As we arrived the bikes were steadily pulling in and there was pink everywhere. Pink cups, pink ribbons, pink tee shirts, even a lady with pink hair! The line to register for the Poker Run was long, which is always a good sign. There were approximately 80 bikes and 100 riders that participated in this event. After enjoying the warm sunshine, beautiful weather, and loads of laughter at three stops in the area, we hopped back on the bikes for the last stretch back to Legends for some real food and the last of the cards. If there is anything going on at Legends, there is always good food, good drinks, and great people to go with it. The jokes were deep and the smiles were wide. A number of people made donations of $100 - $150, which earned them a Pink Ribbon Sponsorship recognition on the wall. And there was the traditional “flashing of the Ta-Tas”, with no cameras allowed. Along with the sponsorships, the poker run, and various items sold, Legends made a whopping $6700! This topped last year’s benefit by over $1500. WOW! Great job Legends Pub and great job to all those sponsors & participants! I would say there are going to be a lot of happy ladies getting mammograms thanks to Holly, Legends, and their patrons and participants.

Enjoy The Mountains! By: Angelica Roman Throughout March, Ray Price Harley-Davidson & Ray Price Triumph has held Road Shows at different Carolina Ale House locations across the Triangle, as well as at the RBC Center for the Hurricanes Lawn Parties. Ray Price partnered with Curtis Media to hold live remotes from each location, and with Bluewater to give away a grand prize of a week’s vacation to the Crystal Coast. The events featured the Harley-Davidson JumpStart Rider Experience, allowing those with no previous experience of riding to ride and get the feel of a real Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Men and women of all ages tried their hand at turning the throttle and shifting through the gears. “I was pretty nervous at first,” said one young woman, “but they explained everything really well and made me feel comfortable. I can’t wait to get on a bike again!” The event also provided information for the Rider’s Edge program. The dealership hopes that with the excitement of the JumpStart, people will be inclined to learn more about riding and sign up for the Rider’s Edge class. The Road Show not only gives the would-be-rider an opportunity to experience a motorcycle without the fear of falling, but also helps to raise awareness. “Just talking about motorcycles to someone helps to make them conscious of bikes on the road. When you tell someone they probably know someone who rides, they think about it and realize they do!” says one Ray Price employee. “Now they see bikes everywhere. This will help to keep more of our brothers and sisters alive on the road.” Everyone who attends the Road Shows is able to enter a drawing for a chance to win a free Rider’s Edge class at Ray Price Harley-Davidson. Ray Price Harley-Davidson & Ray Price Triumph will hold two additional Road Shows in April: one on April 2nd at the Carolina Ale House in Cary for the Final Four, and one on April 3rd at the RBC Center for the Hurricanes Lawn Party. By Kris Wiess How do you fill the streets with a motorcycle event? Provide good food, great music, and a good cause. Mix in a sunny day to ride and you have what Ray Price Harley-Davidson is known for...BIG events! The Brunswick Stew Cook-Off is an annual event that raises money for Ride For Kids and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. There were seven entries this year to cook stew. Some arrived as early as 5am to start brewing their secret recipes. The crowd began to build as The Johnny Folsom 4 started playing your favorite Johnny Cash songs. The Nitro Prize Wheel was spinning all day long giving away gift cards and discounts. Inside, the DJ played all of the favorites from the 70’s to today. Just before the stew was ready for tasting the judges were introduced on the outside music stage; Jerry Hart from Ole Time BBQ, Randy Holt from Cooper’s BBQ, Ben Lipetz from Hooters Airport location, and Salt from 96 Rock were ready to sample the freshly prepared entrees. Customers began to line up donating $5 each for all the stew they could eat. The judges judged and the riders ate, and ate, and ate. Everyone got to vote for the coveted People’s Choice award. It didn’t take long for all the stew to be eaten and for the winners to be announced. Drum roll please...3rd Place and $100 went to Tarheel Stew Crew, 2nd Place and $250 went to Elbow Room. 1st Place and $500 went to Ricky Cliff Farms. The People’s Choice trophy also went to Ricky Cliff Farms. It’s great when the judges and people agree. It was a successful event all the way around and the customers of Ray Price Harley-Davidson helped raise over $1,400 for the Ride For Kids, which will have their annual ride on May 1st. Mark your calendars for the Ray Price Wild Buffalo Wing Cook-Off on July 16th benefiting the Duke Children’s Miracle Network.

By: Buddy Langley What started out as a cool ride got warm as about 30 bikes turned the corner leaving Rendezvous in Greenville, SC at 11:15am on February 20th. We were heading down to 9yr old Lexi Wells’ house. Lexi greeted us with her big angel smile as I delivered her special shirt that Ms. Cortni Childs had designed just for her. After Lexi ran in the house and put her shirt on, we all saddled up on the bikes and, with Lexi’s family’s van about mid pack of the bikes, gave her a biker escort to her benefit. Upon arriving at Rendezvous, Lexi was welcomed with open arms from everyone she met there. Paula McAlister gave her a princess tiara & sash, so she was our princess for the day. Lexi has been battling stage 4 cancer for a couple of years now. She has had one kidney and both bottom lobes of her lungs removed, but unless she’s not feeling well, Lexi is always smiling her angel smile. We did this benefit to help with gas for her family to take her to and from her doctors. We had OUTSHYNE, the 2009 South Carolina Country Music Band Of The Year, play Lexi’s benefit at Rendezvous. The bikers came from all over South and North Carolina. We also had one bike come from Richmond, VA to escort Lexi and be a part of such an event. I personally would like to thank Rendezvous, Outshyne, Cortni Childs, Rhonda Childs, Greg & Paula McAlister for all their hard work and preparations and all the sponsors and local business’s for donating the raffle prizes. When it was over and we counted the donations, the LOVE FOR LEXI BENEFIT was a success! By: Gary Poole When you put your motorcycle on the road, you always make sure that it’s in safe running order. You have it serviced regularly, you check the tread on your tires, you make sure your lights work, etc. Keeping your motorcycle in good running condition is just one of the safety measures you undertake that is within your control. What you cannot control, though, is how much insurance, if any, another driver has on their vehicle. I say “if any” because a recent study shows that 1 out of every 6 drivers in North Carolina has no insurance. In North Carolina, we have about 6.4 million licensed drivers, which means that a little over 1 million drivers in North Carolina have no insurance. Even if a driver does have insurance, they only need to purchase $30,000 of coverage to make their vehicle legal. Most people just assume that if they are injured in an accident through no fault of their own, the other driver’s insurance company will simply cover all their injuries, medical bills, and lost wages. If someone is injured by an uninsured driver, what can you do? What if a motorcyclist is seriously injured in an accident through no fault of their own, but the other driver has only $30,000 of insurance and that amount does not even come close to paying for the medical expenses? These scenarios, which are, unfortunately, very real, are the recipes for financial disaster. What can you do ahead of time to guard against the financial hardship of being seriously injured in an accident caused by someone with little or no insurance? First you look at your insurance policy or talk with your insurance agent to see if you have sufficient uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage as part of your motorcycle insurance policy. Uninsured coverage protects you when the person causing your accident has no insurance at all, and underinsured coverage protects you when the person causing your accident has too little insurance. You will find that increasing your uninsured and underinsured coverage is fairly inexpensive, particularly when weighed against the cost of getting into an accident when the other driver has little or no insurance coverage. If you have any questions about your motorcycle insurance coverage, call me at 800-942-1191. I am always available to answer your questions and my consultation is free. See my ad on page 1.

By: Caroline Most people usually take the opportunity to go out and eat on Fat Tuesday. This year on March 8th, folks in the Forsyth County area got a chance to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation at area participating restaurants. I chose to celebrate Fat Tuesday this year at Freeborne‘s South. After all, you can count on something special happening there all the time and I was not disappointed. When I arrived, I was greeted and seated by my “celebrity server, Billy Creason, from the “Dam-Fi-No” band. All the celebrity waiters donated their tips to Make-A-Wish, so they all worked extra hard to bring in the money for a worthy cause. Billy also did some entertaining with some acoustical pieces in between waiting tables. Billy and the Chris Lane Band did an awesome job of playing and singing for everyone there and I look forward to hearing more from them at Freeborne’s in the months to come. Even though the bands and music at Freeborne’s is the best in the area, they have something for everyone on their menu. I had a garden salad, and the Philly cheese steak sandwich that was fixed with the freshest of ingredients. I hope that you will get a chance to stop by Freeborne’s South. They are located on 3441 Myer Lee Drive just above Smokin’ Harley-Davidson, which makes a very convenient stop. You can also check out their nightly specials and events on their ad here in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine.

We all know Springtime brings things to life. But, sometimes before something grows, or lives, a death must take place. Seeds come from dying fruit but still grow a living plant. Something planted in the dirt pushes itself through and comes alive and produces crops. Many times a tree cut down leaves a stump but from the stump will come a sprout. It may have looked dead but it still had Life in it. April is a month of life, or renewed life, for Christians. It is a time of celebration, it is a time of rejoicing, it is a time of life, death, and life; it is Easter! It is about one dying, yet alive, it is about one living that was dead! The most awesome act of love ever; Easter! It’s not about a bunny, it’s about a Savior! It’s not about rituals and new clothes and just going to church, it’s about Jesus! Yes, Jesus! And only about Jesus! Yes, I said Jesus and I said it Publicly! He died that I (and You) might live! It’s about the life of Jesus, it’s about the suffering and beating and crucifixion of Jesus, it’s about the death of Jesus, and it’s about the resurrection and ascension of Jesus! It’s about a cross, it’s about the blood; it’s about life, death, and life! Jesus died on that cross, yet on the third day He arose, defeating death, hell, and the grave! Thus proving that the free gift of eternal life is real, and is for each and every person that will accept and believe what Jesus has done. He was put in a grave but came out of there alive! You can die now to this world and come to a new life in Jesus, and then one awesome day you, too, can experience life, death, and life!
Rev 1:17-18 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. Pray the Bikers Prayer on this page but mean it in your heart and pray it out loud, publicly! And have an awesome April celebrating Easter, celebrating life through Jesus, Your Savior! Eggs Rot, Rabbits Die, HE Lives! Happy Easter. IN “HIS” WIND Preacher Steve

ALL NEW EVENT!
By: Mark Infield David Zien, best known for defending motorcyclists’ rights while serving in the Wisconsin Legislature, was involved in a motorcycle crash on Sunday, March 13, around 6:15 am. He was reportedly on I-10 near Mariana, Florida, when a vehicle trying to change lanes overturned in front of him and he was unable to avoid hitting it. Many news agencies like to note if a motorcyclist was wearing a helmet or not when involved in a crash. Dave was not wearing a helmet and I am happy to report that he only suffered minor laceration to the head. I wish I could say the same for his left leg, which had to be amputated above the knee, and his right hip and pelvis, which were fractured. The guy who caused the crash was cited for improper lane change resulting in losing control and driving with a suspended license. It appears he was from Ohio and had no insurance. Zien, a member of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame, has more than a million miles under his belt riding Harley-Davidsons. March 15th was Dave’s 61st birthday. The hospital requests that you do not call because he cannot talk to you and it’s hard on hospital staff to field all those calls. If you want to send a card (no flowers, please), here is the address: Tallahassee Memorial Medical Center, David Zien – Patient, 1300 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308 Dave’s children and other family members have been down there since the accident and with spring break going on, everything is very costly. Any help to offset the expenses for the family would be greatly appreciated. You can donate to: Get Well Foundation for Dave Zien, #5284063483, 2910 Mall Drive, Eau Claire, WI 54701. Thanks for anything you can do.

Thunderbolt BBQ Sauce Party
By: Kathy Johnson Running late to a good event was not a good start for my day. But pulling up to Crazy Shots in Hillsborough people came out of the bar and instantly helped me carry all my things into the bar. There were actually 2 events at Crazy Shots that day - double trouble. The Thunderbolt Sauce Party and Ruthie Dabbs’ Birthday Party. You can imagine the bar was packed. I saw so many bottles of Thunderbolt BBQ Sauce being sold they were passing them over peoples heads. If you have not had the chance to try it you need to do it! Thunderbolt BBQ Sauce is delicious on anything. I have heard a lot of stories about what people put it on. One man I know likes it so much he drinks it! Another man told me he took it home for the 1st time and cooked dinner for his family. The next morning his Grandmother asked for it to put it on her eggs for breakfast! Well, needless to say, all the food at the party was delicious and there was plenty of it and you could finish it off with a great piece of Ruthie’s birthday cake. I will personally say that when it came down to just hanging around with some good friends that it was just a really great time. It was a day of food, friends, BBQ, and a special Birthday. Stop in at Crazy Shots and grab a bottle of Thunderbolt BBQ Sauce if you have not done so already. You never know. You might find something new to put it on. People have been saying there is no place to go for biker
breakfast anymore. Well, I have some good news for you. Starting Saturday, April 2nd you can roll into Crazy Shots at 668 N. Churton Street in Hillsborough, NC from 9-11:30 and get your morning in gear. There will also be a fun run leaving out at noon! If you need directions, call 919-732-5626. I hope to see you there! A special thank you from everyone at Crazy Shots for making the Thunderbolt BBQ Sauce Party & Ruthie’s birthday a special day

Bubba is driving down a back road in Alabama. A sign in front of a restaurant reads: ‘HAPPY HOUR SPECIAL: Lobster Tail and Beer”. “Lordy mercy!” he says to himself, “Them’s my three favorites!” God was missing for six days. Eventually, Michael, the archangel, found him, resting on the seventh day. He inquired, “Where have you been?” God smiled deeply and proudly pointed downwards through the clouds, “Look, Michael. Look what I’ve made.” Archangel Michael looked puzzled, and said, “What is it?” “It’s a planet,” replied God, and I’ve put life on it. I’m going to call it Earth and it’s going to be a place to test Balance.” “Balance?” inquired Michael, “I’m still confused.” God explained, pointing to different parts of Earth. “For example, northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth, while southern Europe is going to be poor. Over here I’ve placed a continent of white people, and over there is a continent of black people. Balance in all things.” God continued pointing to different countries. “This one will be extremely hot, while this one will be very cold and covered in ice.” The Archangel, impressed by God’s work, then pointed to a land area and said, “What’s that one?” “That’s North Carolina, the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful mountains, rivers and streams, lakes, forests, hills, and plains. The people from North Carolina are going to be handsome, modest, intelligent, and humorous, and they are going to travel the world. They will be extremely sociable, hardworking, high achieving, carriers of peace, and producers of good things.” Michael gasped in wonder and admiration, but then asked, “But what about

balance, God? You said there would be balance.” God smiled, “Not very far from North Carolina is Washington, DC. Wait till you see the idiots I put there.”
Each Friday night after work, Ole would fire up his outdoor grill on the shore of Big Stone Lake and cook a big venison steak. But, all of Ole’s neighbors were Catholic. And since it was Lent, they were forbidden from eating meat on Friday. The delicious aroma from the grilled venison steaks wafted over Ortonville, and all the way to Clinton, and was causing such a problem for the Catholic faithful that they finally talked to their priest. The Priest came to visit Ole, and suggested that he become a Catholic. After several classes and much study, Ole attended Mass. The priest sprinkled holy water over him, he said, “You were born a Lutheran; raised a Lutheran; but now you are a Catholic.” Ole’s neighbors were relieved.... until Friday night arrived. Again the wonderful aroma of grilled venison filled the neighborhood. The priest was called immediately by the neighbors, and, as he rushed into Ole’s yard, clutching a rosary and prepared to scold him, he stopped and watched in amazement. There stood Ole, clutching a small bottle of holy water.... which he carefully sprinkled over the grilling meat and chanted: “You vuz born a deer; you vuz raised a deer; but now you is a walleye.”
along with people, I’ll be all right! I’ll be there. Thanks again.” “More’n likely be some wild sex, too.” ‘’Now that’s really not a problem,” says Tom, warming to the idea. “I’ve been all alone for six months! I’ll definitely be there. By the way, what should I wear?” “Don’t much matter. Just gonna’ be the two of us.” Mohammed entered his classroom on the first day of school. “What’s your name?” asked the teacher. “Mohammed,” he replied. “You’re in America now,” replied the teacher, “So from now on you will be known as Kevin, OK?” “Sure”. Mohammed returned home after school. “How was your day, Mohammed?” his mother asked. “My name is not Mohammed. I’m in America and now my name is Kevin.” “Are you ashamed of your name? Are you trying to dishonor your parents, your heritage, or your religion? “NO!!” “Shame on you!” And his mother beat him. Then she called his father, who beat him again. The next day Mohammed returned to school. The teacher saw all of his bruises. “What happened to you, Kevin?” she asked. “Well, ma’am, shortly after becoming an American, I was attacked by two Arabs.”
A guy goes to the Post Office to apply for a job. The interviewer asks him, “Are you allergic to anything?” He replies, “Yes, caffeine.” “Have you ever been in the military service?” “Yes,” he says, “I Tom had been in business for 25 years. was in Iraq for two years.” The interSick of the stress, he buys 50 acres of land viewer says, “That will give you 5 extra in Alaska as far from humanity as pospoints toward employment.” Then he sible. He sees the postman once a week asks, “Are you disabled in any way?” and gets groceries once a month. Otherwise The guy says, “Yes. A bomb exploded it’s total peace and quiet. After six months near me and I lost both of my testicles... or so of almost total isolation, someone The interviewer grimaces and then says, knocks on his door. He opens it and a huge, “O.K. You’ve got enough points for me bearded man is standing there. “Name’s to hire you right now. Our normal hours Cliff, your neighbor from forty miles up are from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. You can the road. Having a Christmas party Friday start tomorrow at 10:00 A.M. - and plan night. Thought you might like to come at on starting at 10:00 A.M. every day.” about 5:00.” ‘’Great’, says Tom, “after six The guy is puzzled and asks, “If the work months out here I’m ready to meet some hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., local folks. Thank you.” As Cliff is leavwhy don’t you want me here until 10:00 ing, he stops. “Gotta warn you. Be some A.M.?” “This is a government job,” the drinking.” “Not a problem,” says Tom. interviewer says, “For the first two hours, “After 25 years in the business, I can drink we just stand around drinking coffee and with the best of ‘em.” Again, the big man scratching our balls. No point in you comstarts to leave and stops. “More ‘n’ likely ing in for that.” gonna’ be some fighting’ too.” ‘Well, I get

The 2nd Annual North Carolina’s Funniest Biker By: Two-Six On February 19th, almost two hundred bikers gathered at Pyrates Sports Bar in Spring Lake, NC to answer one nagging question: Who is North Carolina’s Funniest Biker? The Cumberland County chapter of the Southern Riders Motorcycle Club (SRMC) hosts what has become an annual event. The goal is to give bikers the opportunity to perform their funniest bits on stage while also helping to fight breast cancer. The event was the brainchild of a biker named Mudd who had seen his Brother Two-Six perform stand up comedy in Raleigh. Both Mudd and Two-Six are members of the SRMC in Cumberland County, NC. Mudd felt that it would be an entertaining evening while also providing desperately needed funds for the Karen Chandler Trust in Fayetteville, NC, a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. The first event was held in February, 2010 and raised $1,000. Eight comedians took the stage that night and the event was an overwhelming success. The SRMC organized the Feb. 19s, 2011 event and Gary, the owner of Pyrates Sports Bar, donated the BBQ and chicken (which was simply amazing), as well as some cash prizes. This year ten comedians took the stage to determine who would be the 2011 North Carolina’s Funniest Biker. The judging was tough, but the winners finally emerged: In first place was Strange Man of the Combat Veteran’s Motorcycle Association who did a HILARIOUS 15 minute performance. In second place was Wild Bill, a prospect for the Silent Heroes MC. Like many of the contestants, Wild Bill was forced on stage due to his status as a prospect. Wild Bill stepped to the plate and earned both laughs and a world of respect from the audience. In third place was Sly, a prospect for the SRMC, also forced on to the stage due to his status as a prospect! Sly did a bang up job with very little notice given and very little time to prepare. As if stepping on stage and bearing your comedic soul in front of two hundred screaming bikers was not a large enough indicator of character, all of the winners donated their monetary prizes back to the Karen Chandler Trust which was an amazing display of the social consciousness of the North Carolina motorcycle community. This year’s event raised $900 for the Karen Chandler Trust – another whopping success! If you missed The 2nd Annual North Carolina’s Funniest Biker, make sure that you attend next year. If you have ever wanted to see whether or not you have the back-bone to try stand-up – this may be your opportunity!

By: Steve (Back In The Saddle Again) Rowland My bike has been down for a little while, so February 27th was the first real ride I got to do in a while. I just happened to see a Rolling Thunder member and he said that they were doing a sponsor ride today. They ride to the restaurants or drinking establishments that sponsors the Rolling Thunder organization. They were just supporting the local businesses, MANY DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE helping out a little, which is nice. When I left for the first stop about 10:30 it was 65º. I rolled into D’s Sports Bar, to meet with some of the Rolling Thunder Chapter 3 members. They had 20 bikes show up. We hung out a little then headed out to the second Don’t Let Physical Challenges place. The new owners of The Hideaway Keep You From Riding. Grill weren’t there, so I could not get a Let Us Get You Back On The Road. picture of the group with the owners. Oh, well! Maybe next time. Then off to the E WE CAN TRIK Clubhouse, AKA Cheers. It was a short ! E ID R ride there. Then on to Swing Bridge SaR U YO loon. This place is a great biker bar. When you get down here for Bike Week, make 500 S. Main St. Troutman, NC sure you come by. They have a great free Experience The Difference pig picking. Let me tell you, it’s “Mmm, 704-528-5425 MotorTrike Kits Available Mmm” good. Motorcycles vs. Cars
BikeEXIF.com - Author Unknown There is cold, and there is cold on a motorcycle. Cold on a motorcycle is like being beaten with cold hammers while being kicked with cold boots, a bone bruising cold. The wind’s big hands squeeze the heat out of my body and whisk it away; caught in a cold October rain, the drops don’t even feel like water. They feel like shards of bone fallen from the skies of Hell to pock my face. I expect to arrive with my cheeks and forehead streaked with blood, but that’s just an illusion, just the misery of nerves not designed for highway speeds. Despite this, it’s hard to give up my motorcycle in the fall and I rush to get it on the road again in the spring; lapses of sanity like this are common among motorcyclists. When you let a motorcycle into your life you’re changed forever. The letters “MC” are stamped on your driver’s license right next to your sex and weight as if “motorcycle” was just another of your physical characteristics, or maybe a mental condition. But when warm weather finally does come around all those cold snaps and rainstorms are paid in full because a summer is worth any price. A motorcycle is not just a two-wheeled car; the difference between driving a car and climbing onto a motorcycle is the difference between watching TV and actually living your life. We spend all our time sealed in boxes and cars are just the rolling boxes that shuffle us from home-box to work-box to store-box and back, the whole time, entombed in stale air, temperature regulated, sound insulated, and smelling of carpets. On a motorcycle I know I’m alive. When I ride, even the familiar seems strange and glorious. The air has weight and substance as I push through it and its touch is as intimate as water to a swimmer. I feel the cool wells of air that pool under trees and the warm spokes of that fall through them. I can see everything in a sweeping 360 degrees, up, down and around, wider than Pana-Vision and than IMAX and unrestricted by ceiling or dashboard. Sometimes I even hear music. It’s like hearing phantom telephones in the shower or false doorbells when vacuuming; the pattern-loving brain, seeking signals in the noise, raises acoustic ghosts out of the wind’s roar. But on a motorcycle I hear whole songs: rock ‘n roll, dark orchestras, women’s voices, all hidden in the air and released by speed. At 30 miles per hour and up, smells become uncannily vivid. All the individual tree-smells and flower-smells and grass-smells flit by like chemical notes in a great plant symphony. Sometimes the smells evoke memories so strongly that it’s as though the past hangs invisible in the air around me, wanting only the most casual of rumbling time machines to unlock it. A ride on a summer afternoon can border on the rapturous. The sheer volume and variety of stimuli is like a bath for my nervous system, an electrical massage for my brain, a systems check for my soul. It tears smiles out of me: a minute ago I was dour, depressed, apathetic, numb, but now, on two wheels, big, ragged, windy smiles flap against the side of my face, billowing out of me like air from a decompressing plane. Transportation is only a secondary function. A motorcycle
is a joy machine. It’s a machine of wonders, a metal bird, a motorized prosthetic. It’s light and dark and shiny and dirty and warm and cold lapping over each other; it’s a conduit of grace, it’s a catalyst for bonding the gritty and the holy. I still think of myself as a motorcycle amateur, but by now I’ve had a handful of bikes over half a dozen years and slept under my share of bridges. I wouldn’t trade one second of either the good times or the misery. Learning to ride one of the best things I’ve done. Cars lie to us and tell us we’re safe, powerful, and in control. The air-conditioning fans murmur empty assurances and whisper, “Sleep, sleep.” Motorcycles tell us a more useful truth: we are small and exposed, and probably moving too fast for our own good, but that’s no reason not to enjoy every minute of the ride.

Photo by Brandon Hinson By: Shorty Hinson On Sunday morning, February 20th, I awoke with one thing on my mind: the Daytona 500 race. I went to check my e-mails and found a request to attend a memorial service for Mr. Calvin McCarver, a Vietnam Veteran from Monroe, NC. I thought of what the title of the race was and it is entitled “The Great American Race”. The decision was easy. I would go and show my respect and support for a man that was fighting for our country before I was even born. Mr. McCarver served from 1966 -1970 in the US Army. Mr. McCarver, Spec 4, was with the 25 ID, Assigned A Battery, 7/11 Field Artillery. He was wounded in June 1969 at Fire Support Base Crook. He served in Vietnam 1969-1970 and for his service Mr. McCarver received the Purple Heart and other medals for bravery. Mr. McCarver was a member of the VFW # 2423, a charter member of American Legion Post 235 in Unionville, NC, and a member of the American Legion Riders, the Patriot Guard Riders in Monroe N.C. Mr. McCarver finished his race February 18th, after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. Mr. McCarver was confirmed to have been harmed by Agent Orange, but as I listened to the service, no one said he ever complained or blamed the military for his health problems. The service was very respectful to Mr. McCarver and his family .The attendance was around 200 and a nice showing of his fellow American Legion and Patriot Guard Riders. Mr. McCarver leaves behind a wife and family that, without a doubt, loved him and will miss him dearly. Mr. McCarver was cremated and his ashes will be spread over the Carolina mountains where he and his wife loved to ride.

AHDRA Kickstarts Bike Week With A Load Of Nitro By: Gerry Greene With the help of Tommy Grimes riding Ray Price’s Top Fuel Harley entry, the AHDRA/Screamin’ Eagle Championship Series set the 227 MPH pace for the rest of the 2011 Florida Bike Week with their season opener at Orlando Speed World March 5-6. With a gloomy forecast for Sunday’s main event, everyone was anxious to get down the track as quick as they could. It turned out that the weatherman was dead wrong and we ended up with showers on Friday and two beautiful Florida days for qualifying and eliminations. Maybe it was just because it was the first event of the year, but there seems to be a ton of headlines from the event. Highlights include Doug Horne riding the Romine Racing/Horne Concrete stable of machines to victory in both the Screamin’ Eagle Top Fuel and Rush Racing Products Pro Fuel categories. The Croneberger/Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson entourage performed flawlessly and took home the big trophy in three classes. Brad got AHDRA Super Sport and Bruce took Purvis Motorsports Hot Street and Right Quick Graphics Street Pro. And don’t forget Jeff Stevens on his brand new Screamin’ Eagle Draggin’ Bagger ride taking the win and going home with four national records! Willie G. and a few of his pals were in attendance Sunday to get their dose of nitro generated adrenaline before heading over to the beach. It is always great to have him show up. He likes racing as much as we do and he took the time to reminisce with the crowd a little during the Pro break Sunday afternoon. It must feel great to look out over that sea of motorcycles and know that you and your family had a hand in the designing and building of every one of them. The biggest disappointment I saw this weekend was Billy Rowe in the finals. His bike wouldn’t keep fired even after Kevin Winters gave him several tries before he took the win in the Rush Racing Products Super Eliminator with a competition single. Rowe’s bike cranked and drove away from the burnout box as soon as Winters had left the line. AHDRA competitors have a few weeks to make adjustments before heading to Tulsa, OK for the Mid-West Nitro Nationals at Tulsa Raceway Park on April 15,16 & 17. Then they are off to the Inauguaral Carolina Spring Nationals at Rockingham. NC April 30 – May 1. See you there1 Photo and video coverage is available at Mike Davis’ (www. Protestors vs. Bikers
Local and state police scoured the hills outside rural town in North Carolina, after reports of three animal rights activists going missing after attempting to protest the wearing of leather at a large motorcycle rally this weekend. Two others, previously reported missing, were discovered by fast food workers “duct taped inside several fast food restaurant dumpsters,” according to police officials. “Something just went wrong,” said a still visibly shaken organizer of the protest. “Something just went horribly, horribly, wrong.” The organizer said a group of concerned animal rights activist groups, “growing tired of throwing fake blood and shouting profanities at older women wearing leather or fur coats,” decided to protest the annual motorcycle event “in a hope to show them our outrage at their wanton use of leather in their clothing and motorcycle seats.” “In fact,” said the organizer, “motorcyclists are one of the biggest abusers of wearing leather, and we decided it was high time that we let them know that we disagree with them using it and they should stop.” According to witnesses, protesters arrived at the event in a vintage 1960’s era Volkswagen van and began to pelt the motorcyclists with balloons filled with red colored water, simulating blood, and shouting “you’re murderers” to passers by. This, evidently, is when the brouhaha began. “They peed on me!” charged one activist. “They grabbed
me, said I looked like I was French, started calling me ‘La Trene’, and duct taped me to a tree so they could pee on me all day!” Still others claimed they were forced to eat hamburgers and hot dogs under duress. Those who resisted were allegedly held down while several bikers “farted on their heads.” Police officials declined comments on any leads or arrests due to the ongoing nature of the investigation; however, organizers for the motorcycle rally expressed “surprise” at the allegations. “That’s preposterous,” said one high-ranking member of the organizing committee. “We were having fun, and these people showed up and were very rude to us. They threw things at us, called us names, and tried to ruin the entire event. So, what did we do? We invited them to the party! What could be friendlier than that? You know, just because we are all motorcyclists does not mean we do not care about inclusiveness. Personally, I think it shows a lack of character for them to be saying such nasty things about us after we bent over backwards to make them feel welcome.” When confronted with the allegations of force-feeding the activists meat, using them as ad hoc latrines, leaving them incapacitated in fast food restaurant dumpsters, and ‘farting on their heads,’ the organizer declined to comment in detail. “That’s just our secret handshake,” assured the organizer. The Pledge Of Allegiance
By: Mark Infield* The Pledge Of Allegiance to the United States, which is the official national pledge, is an oath of loyalty to the nation. Although composed as early as in the year 1892, the Pledge only received its official status on June 22, 1942, as a result of the official recognition conferred to it by the US congress. Since then, the Pledge Of Allegiance is sworn by politicians during congressional sessions. All government meetings at locals level and sporting events start with the Pledge Of Allegiance words being recited. State laws also require students of public schools to swear the Pledge of Allegiance. It is expected of every citizen of the United States to know the Pledge Of Allegiance words, in order to be able to express his solidarity with the nation. Pledge Of Allegiance History The Pledge Of Allegiance was first published in the September 8th issue of “The Youth’s Companion”, which was a popular magazine of children at the time, under the title “The Pledge to the Flag”. This was a part of the National Public School Celebration of Columbus Day, which was an event to mark the 400th anniversary of the Columbus Day. After proclamation by President Harrison, the Pledge was used for the first time in public schools in America on October 12th 1892. This set off the tradition of the Pledge Of Allegiance being recited in Public Schools on a daily basis.
Pledge Of Allegiance Words - Changes The Pledge Of Allegiance underwent 4 changes. Each time some new words were included in the original form. Francis Bellamy wanted the Pledge Of Allegiance to be short and crisp, with the words conveying the message of loyalty to the nation unambiguously. The original Pledge Of Allegiance words in October 12, 1892 were: “I pledge allegiance to my Flag, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation indivisible, With Liberty and Justice for all.” After being set off as a daily routine in public schools since 1892, concern over the usage of the words “My Flag” in the original Pledge Of Allegiance words was expressed in the First
National Flag Conference in Washington, DC, held in 1923. The concern was that by that time the immigrant population in the United States had climbed to considerable proportions and use of the words “My Flag” might mean the flag of the native countries of the immigrants. Hence, to remove the disparity, the words “the Flag of the United States” were introduced in place of “My Flag”. Hence, the Pledge Of Allegiance words as it stood in 1923 were: “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.” In 1924 The Pledge Of Allegiance words witnessed another change when the words “of America” were added. The Pledge Of Allegiance words then read as: I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation indivisible, With Liberty and Justice for all. The last change in the Pledge Of Allegiance words was made on June 14, 1954 with the inclusion of the words “under God” as approved by President Eisenhower. The Pledge Of Allegiance as it reads TODAY is: “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation under God, indivisible, With Liberty and Justice for all.” Pledge Of Allegiance Word - Meaning We Americans are taught to learn the Pledge Of Allegiance words by rote without being able to concentrate on the emotion that the words want to convey. Here is the meaning of the Pledge Of Allegiance wording: I pledge allegiance (I promise my loyalty) to the flag (to the symbol that stands to represent) of the United States of America (each and every of the 50 states that form the united nation of America) and to the republic (a country where people choose their representative to form the government and represent them) for which it stands, one nation (the flag that stands for one country) under God (there is one Supreme

Old Coots On Scoots Lunch Ride I do want to thanks George, Mary, Mike, Tommy and all the Old Coots for letting me hang around and ride with them. This group of riders is always doing good things for our community. Keep a look out in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calender, or go to http://goo.gl/8WwyB to check it out. In October they are doing the Honor Flight Fundraiser. Last year’s event was a great success. It was done very well, and we hope this year we have police escort. The Old Coots have these Monday rides pretty much planned out, the places know we are coming, and it’s all pretty well organized. They seem to average between 20 to 40 bikes go out. I am getting really comfortable riding with them. By: Steve (Monday Rider) Rowland 2.28.11 I had been waiting to ride with Coots since last week. Monday morning was a little foggy, just enough to make it damp feeling, but I knew it was going to get up to 70º today. I had my layers on. The group that lives up on the north end meets about 9 in the morning. I met up with 5 other riders at the corner gas station then we rode out to main meeting point. We arrive at Longbeard’s about 9:30. We had about 28 bikes heading to Tabor city for lunch. The ride was to take about 2 hours today. It’s funny how a bunch of grown people get together and travel 2 hours just to eat! Some places the food is good, some places it’s bad, but it truly is the getting there that’s the part we love. We were going into NC so every on had helmets. One of the reasons that I tag along with these guys is that they ride. We rode about 125 miles today, that’s about 3500 miles (collectively) just to ride to lunch! We’re a strange bunch. Going down a little back road in North Carolina, we came upon a paved road had ended. The road in front of us looked like the surface of the moon, so we had a 28 bike u-turn. It was great. Q-Ball had decided just to make a quick u in a turn around in some guys driveway, before he knew it he had a little dog, on his ass, giving him sh#t for being in his yard. Now it was little but he thought he was 125lb and full of piss and vinegar. Q-Ball said he was ready for him, had his boots on, so the little ankle biter was getting leather if anything. The only reason that I mention this is that it was the joke of the day that I was going to write about it. We all got going in the right direction going down some great roads. The trees were in bloom and it was really beautiful. We went the Todd House Restaurant and Catering, a buffet style restaurant in Tabor City. The food was OK. We all know we are not getting 5 star food at these kinda places, but it was good, it had a little gift shop on its side. I got some pretty good shots today, so go to www.FullThrottleMagazine.com and check them out. You are welcome to download them for free.

True, taking a motorcycle injury case all the way to court is never easy. So, many attorneys simply try to avoid it. Trouble is, that may or may not lead to the best outcome for the client. Me, I relish a good legal battle when necessary. I fight for you and delegate nothing to junior attorneys. As a Lawyer, I know your rights – as a Biker, I understand.
