ay was a very busy month. It always is. We got through it OK. From all accounts, everyone made it home safely from Myrtle Beach Spring Bike Rally. There were so many events and stories from May that we had to hold some of them over to be published in the July issue. So, if you attended one or sent one in that you don’t see in this issue, that is probably what happened. Now on to June. School will soon be out and many families will be taking their family vacations. Believe it or not, June is traditionally one of the slower months in the biker community. I chalk it up to this factor because the weather is usually really nice in the Carolinas in June and the riding season is in full swing. As usual, The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine will keep you abreast of all the events and rallies. Keep an eye on the Cruisin’ Calendar and remember that you can access it from any mobile device by going to www. FullThrottleMagazine.com. The entire magazine is available there, too, so there is no excuse for not being informed! The 16th Annual Angier Bikefest and Trax-Side Bike Rally, a new event in Thomasville, NC are going happening on June 3 as well as Cyclemania Vintage And Retro Motorcycle Show In Charlotte. On June 16-17 Smoke Out 18 at Rockingham Dragway is a “Not to be missed” event. This is a totally different event than what you are used to. Lots of cool old skool choppers and vendors. On June 17 Harley-Davidson of Greensboro is having a Father’s Day Ride and invites everyone to bring your kids or your father. On June 23-25, the 21st Annual Hot Springs Motorcycle Weekend Presented by Buncombe County CBA/ABATE in Hot Springs, NC is unique in itself! Thunder In The Smokies Summer Rally has been added to the calendar on June 30 - July 2 at the Maggie Valley Festival Grounds. Now I have noted something for you to do on every weekend in June. There are many others that I will probably catch some flak for not mentioning, but they are all listed in this month’s Cruisin’ Calendar. So, take your pick, ride, and enjoy! And above all, be safe!

D & Q Motorsports Customer Appreciation Day By: Johnny Reb Saturday, the 29th of April was D & Q Motorsports’ customer appreciation day and what a day it was! Attitude and I jumped on our scoot, a 2010 Street Glide AKA “The Red Baron”, and headed out for a beautiful ride to one of my favorite places to visit, D & Q Motorsports in Angier, NC. Not only was it customer appreciation day, but it was a day for raising money and awareness for Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. Pediatric brain tumors are formed by the abnormal growth of cells, and may begin in different parts of the brain or spinal cord. The tumors may be benign or malignant. Both can cause signs or symptoms and must be treated. D & Q built a beautiful Ironhead Sportster bobber appropriately called “G String”. They raised $8,870 raffling this bike off. Jody Robinson from Angier, NC was not there, but she was very excited when they notified her by phone that she had won the bike. It also needs to be mentioned that out of every $1 raised, 93¢ is used for research with only 7¢ is used for administrative costs. The day was hot and sunny, but that didn’t stop the band, Southern Grace, from heating things up even more! They frigging rocked it out all afternoon! I think I may have witnessed the hardest working rock band in real life! Oh yeah, I hadn’t even mentioned the delicious BBQ! Hot damn! That was some good food! The owner, Jeff Bruce, was running around keeping things running smooth and taking care of his customers at the same time. The place was packed with people who came for the festivities and customers who needed parts. Speaking of parts, if you need it they have it. If you need service they have a beautiful shop in the back that can handle anything from service to whole bike builds. In fact, stop in and see the Panhead that Jeff is currently building! If you’re an old grey beard like me, it will bring a tear to your eye. It is 70’s period perfect. I just can’t say enough about Jeff and his crew. They are always helpful with any mechanical problem or any part you may need. They are a class act in every way. Thunder In The Smokies Spring Motorcycle Rally By: WildThing Traveling up the mountain on Friday, May 5, 2017 for the spring Thunder in the Smokies rally, I had high hopes and expectations. The main drag in Maggie Valley, Soco Road, is usually teeming with groups of motorcycles stopping in at their favorite watering hole, or getting settled in at their motel or campground. Apparently Mother Nature scared away a lot of the regulars as hotel signs indicated ‘vacancy’ and there was no line at the gate to the Festival Grounds. Despite the forecast, a whole host of vendors were set up inside the festival grounds, with an array of biker gear and festival foods. The music lineup, sponsored by Smoky Mountain Steel Horses of Waynesville, NC, was impressive for Friday evening. First up was Ali Randolph and the Outta Luck Band. They have been first up for the past several rallies, and they really set the tone and get things pumping. Next up was Nick Hickman and later on, the headliner, Rockie Lynne, a NC favorite. Everyone took the stage at their appointed times and did their best. The crowd, although thin, surely enjoyed the bands’ efforts, in spite of the misty rain. Saturday morning started out very promising with Carolina blue skies peppered with puffy clouds when we went by for a visit to Wheels Through Time Museum. There is always something new to enjoy there. When we came out and headed to the rally, it was starting to mist and the clouds had rolled in over the mountain tops. At the Festival Grounds, the vendors were open and some bikes were rolling through the gates. Noon was the appointed hour for the bike show sponsored by Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group. Since they were vying for a cash prize, when called to line up, there was no hesitation. All makes and models are welcomed in this Peoples’ Choice competition, so it is quite an eclectic show. After everyone was given a chance to vote their choice with the ticket they were given at the gate, the winners were announced. Third place was awarded to the Rebel theme bike

belonging to Tony Ferrell from TN, second was Mike Frye’s custom chopper, also from TN. The first place was garnered by Harley Hedrick with his low-slung old skool chopper out of Easley, SC. Unfortunately, the rain clouds had settled in the valley and knocked out any possibility of playing the normally hugely popular bike games. Several of us hung out at the beer tent telling war stories and enjoying the cold brews, hoping for the rain to quit. It didn’t, so one by one and in small groups, disappointed bikers gave up and left for dryer quarters. The evening line up took to the stage at their times and played to the handful of hardcore bikers that returned to enjoy the rest of the evening as best they could in that weather. The evening featured Tony McKee at 7:30 and Rick Monroe at 9:30. Sunday morning, you guessed it, dawned clear and cool, with a forecast of sunshine, no rain, and temps in the seventies for the day. The vendors were open at 9, and there was a free pancake breakfast before the 10 am church service. I heard someone say of this rally, “Yeah, it rained, but I had fun.” Chris, the promoter, would say, “The ones who did show are hardcore”. Agreed, and we’ll look forward to the next Thunder in the Smokies: the new Summer Rally: June 30 – July 2. If you must miss that one, there is the fall Thunder in the Smokies September 8 – 10. Chris and Lori of the Handlebar Corral work hard all year lining up bands, vendors, and concocting new bike games for us to enjoy at the next rally. CMA Thunder Sunday By: Alice Owens Thunder rolled in from all directions on Sunday, April 29. Restoration Church in Greensboro, NC hosted the first ever Thunder Sunday in the Piedmont area. Over 50 bikes from as far west as Boone and as far east as Raleigh rode in to be a part of the day. Thunder Sundays are hosted by local churches in conjunction with Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA). CMA is an international motorcycle association with chapters in each of the 50 states and 35 countries worldwide. It is a ministry that reaches out to bikers to share the love of Jesus with other bikers. CMA hosts various events such as Thunder Sunday, but they also hold chapter rides to which any biker is welcome. They help at bike rallies and offer childcare, first aid, hospitality, and bike

Keith Honeycutt, the State Prayer Coordinator for CMA and President of the Boone Chapter described Thunder Sunday as a place where all bikers could come and be welcomed at church. “It’s an opportunity for us to invite bikers to church because most of the time bikers aren’t going to go to church because they don’t feel welcome. This is our chance to make them feel

welcome,” said Honeycutt. He said his chapter, Peacemakers, has been participating in Thunder Sunday events for about seven years. They got the idea from another group from out of state and brought it to North Carolina. Honeycutt said more Thunder Sundays are being planned around the state and he hopes to see the events continue “It’s not your to grow. “It’s not your grandma’s Grandma’s church,” he said. And he church” is right about that. The praise band was loud and rocking at Restoration Church even including a Lynyrd Skynyrd song in one of the sets. David Richey, State Coordinator of CMA said that having local CMA chapters is important because it allows members to minister to bikers locally in the community with a servant’s heart. “We want to provide in a tangible way what God has done in our lives and the chapters are set up to be able to do that locally,” said Richey. He said that CMA wants people to know that God loves them and members want to be able to help in any way possible, doing all they can to help other bikers in Jesus’ name. Scott Harris, Vice President of the Reconcilers, the Greensboro chapter of CMA, attended Thunder Sunday last year in Boone and found there had never been a Thunder Sunday this far east. He wanted to make is happen. Restoration Church, which meets at Alamance Elementary School, hosted and sponsored the event. The Reconcilers got the word out by advertising in local bike shops, restaurants and handing out invitations to bikers. The parking lot looked a lot like a bike show and many

members of the congregation came early to check out all the motorcycles. There were Harleys, Hondas, Yamahas, Trikes, Spiders, of all colors and models. Several children sat on bikes and posed for photos. Courtney Williams and her family were some of the church members who were out checking out the bikes. “We love having the bikers here! We love and welcome everyone!” Williams said. In addition to free coffee and doughnuts, there were door prizes, a $200 cash prize giveaway, and a 50/50 drawing. A prayer station was set up for people who had prayer requests and one lady even saw her prayer answered. She had prayed for years for her husband to come to church and he never would, but on Thunder Sunday, he came. During the service, a video testimony was shared from a man who was in prison and some bikers from CMA came into the prison regularly and through their ministry to him, he began a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Once he was released from prison, he joined the CMA and began his own ministry, using his experience to reach out to others in situations similar to his. Keith Honeycutt delivered the message taken from Luke 16:19-31 about the rich man and Lazarus. Honeycutt said it well “It’s not your grandma’s church.” The congregation of Restoration Church were very welcoming and were gracious hosts to all the bikers that rode in for Thunder Sunday. Don’t be surprised if you see more bikes parked outside church on Sunday morning. With events like this, it is

hard for people to stay away! CMA is preparing next for its annual Run For The Son ride. It is the only fundraiser that the organization, as a whole, participates in and the proceeds all go directly back to ministry. Sixty percent of the funds raised go to support global missions, Open Door Ministries, that send Bibles into countries closed to Christianity, Missionary Ventures that provides whatever transportation is needed to help missionaries and pastors minister, and the Jesus Film Project, which takes the story of Jesus based on the book of Luke in the Bible to tribes and villages around the world and in remote places. The Jesus Film has been translated into over 1200 languages. The remaining forty percent of the funds raised through Run For The Son provide for ministry tools for CMA chapters. It pays for Bibles, Rag Tracks (cleaning cloths that explain how one can have a personal relationship with Jesus), and other ministry supplies. Ol Skool Tribe RC Riding For A Cause Autism Ride

By: Beth Gorman April is Autism Awareness Month and Ol Skool Tribe RC of Rockingham, NC had a wonderful turnout for their Riding For A Cause For Autism Ride. The event was held at the Rockingham VFW Post 4203 and 31+ bikers showed up to show their support. The ride was police escorted and was a very nice paced ride through Richmond county. The weather was great. Once the riders returned, Ol Skool Tribe members and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary served up some fantastic food to all of us. Throughout the event there were door prizes, 50/50 raffle, and silent auction items. A great time was had by all. The donations from sponsors and the proceeds

of the event are going to Sandhills Children’s Center in Rockingham for Therapist and Therapeutic equipment. Ol Skool Tribe RC has this event annually and this is the fourth year for this event. Their club is very involved in the Rockingham community and throughout the year they have several different rides for other local nonprofit organizations, and local residents that need support. 20th Annual Freedom Memorial Wall Dedication By: Caroline It’s hard to believe that 20 years ago the first Freedom Memorial Wall Dedication was started. Curly and Laura Williams envisioned an event where one could honor their friends and family who loved the motorcycle riding lifestyle. Each year, the Mayor of Winston-Salem makes a proclamation that the first Sunday in May will be Freedom Memorial Wall Day: May the road rise to meet them May the wind be ever at their backs May the sunshine warm upon their faces… And until we meet again, may God Hold them in the hollow of His Hand. This year’s event started off with a worship service led by John Holland. There was a short morning ride that was led by Larry Claggett and escorted by volunteers from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department. During all the coming and goings throughout the morning the sweet sounds of an amazing blue grass gospel group, Mountain Road, could be heard. The riders returned around noon to a lunch of barbecue, potato salad, baked beans, slaw, and wings donated by Ted’s Kickin’ Chicken. After lunch, everyone gathered at the Memorial Wall stage, where the Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard presented the colors and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Smokin’ Harley-Davidson’s, general manager, Ray Perry, then welcomed everyone to this year’s dedication ceremony. In keeping with the annual tradition, the names of the newest names added to the Wall were read first, then the names of all the past years until all 20 years were acknowledged. At that point, balloons were released, signaling the conclusion of the May 7th, 2017 Freedom Memorial Wall Dedication. The Winston Salem HOG Chapter and Winston Gold Wings are two groups who did an excellent job to make this a special event. Of course, the folks at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson are

Salisbury’s Newest Bike Night Castaway’s Seafood Bar and Grill

Weather was not our friend for the first couple of bike nights, but April 26, 2017 was just the opposite. Being a new venue, we had bikes in an out of the parking lot. But for the ones who stopped and checked it out, $1 PBR, 75¢ wings, and 60¢ peel and eat shrimp was the reward. The full menu is available and there is a great selection of seafood and steaks. Castaway’s food is fair priced unlike other seafood places in the area and it’s plentiful. Bike night is each Wednesday and they have great specials each and every night. They have a huge parking lot and a large patio to enjoy your dinner or just have a cold one and watch the sun set. NHRA 4-Wide At zMAX Story and photo by Alan Dockery The National Hot Rod Association comes to zMAX Dragway, Concord, NC, twice a year. But the last weekend in April was the most intense because fans packed the place for the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Four-Wide Nationals. Yeah, they run four at the same time instead of two. Four 10,000 horsepower Top Fuel or Funny Cars launching at the same time really rattles the stands and fans. The cars are the big stars. NHRA runs everything from Stock to Top Fuel, so there were hundreds of race cars to check out. There were 32 Pro Mods at zMAX thrilling folks. I know y’all Southerners love Pro Mod. They ran some cool old Gassers and jet cars, too. Lots of old race cars were there on display. I dig the cars, but Pro Stock Motorcycle is what really gets me to the strip. A bunch of bike racers y’all know and love were there. By the end of qualifying, 22 riders I dig the cars, but had made passes Pro Stock Motorcycle to get into the 16-bike field. is what really gets me The usual to the strip. Carolina racers were there. Matt Smith, King, NC, was looking good on his Victory Gunner and qualified tenth. Angie Smith, King, was back on the Buell and in the field at thirteenth. Shawn Gann, Stoneville, NC, qualified his Buell fifteenth. We have a few more race teams to cheer for now. Chip Ellis now claims China Grove, NC, as home. Y’all know Chip as a long-time drag racer representing the Junior Pippin Trucking team. He qualified fourth. Andy Simon, Sr., has moved his shop to Salisbury, NC. Andy was a star on the All Harley Drag Racing Association circuit winning races and championships. This was his first NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle event and he missed getting his Buell in the 16-bike field. Melissa Surber now calls Mooresville, NC, home and just barely missed qualifying her Buell. The Four-Wide is a tricky race trying to stage and run against three other machines. In the final round, it was both

AMCA Don Gibson Theatre Bike Show

By Wally Wersching The “Legends” Chapter of the AMCA (Antique Motorcycle Club of America), and IMRG (Indian Motorcycle Riders Group) Charlotte Chapter sponsored a private showing of the film “The World’s Fastest Indian” along with an antique and contemporary motorcycle show. It was scheduled for Saturday May 6th at the Don Gibson Theatre in Shelby, NC. For those who don’t know about the 2005 movie, it’s based on the true story of Burt Munro from New Zealand played by Anthony Hopkins. He rode a 1920 Indian Scout that he highly modified to become the world’s fastest Indian at the Bonneville Salt Flats in the 1960’s. What is even more amazing is that Burt was in his 60’s when he did it. He dreamed about going to Bonneville for over 25 years, and the movie shows some of the hardships he encountered when he finally went. Burt was a “seat of the pants” type of mechanic. He made everything himself for his trusted Indian The street in front of in his shop / the theatre was blocked home in New Zealand. The off to park the many movie depicts bikes in the show. him as a real character – from him peeing on his lemon tree every morning, trimming his toenails with a grinder, and waking up the whole neighborhood as he revs up his Indian just after dawn. When watching the movie, his determined innovative personality comes out, and makes you wish you had known him when he was alive. It’s a low-key movie with a single plot – Burt getting to Bonneville. Anthony Hopkins plays the part perfectly. It’s not your typical “action/biker movie”.

The setting is a beautifully restored movie theatre in uptown Shelby, NC. The State Theatre, an Art Deco gem, opened its doors as the area’s most beautifully appointed movie house on October 27th, 1939. The local paper immediately praised it as “one of the most strikingly beautiful building fronts of the modern day”. The State was a typically popular and romanticized small town movie theatre, but in its later years as The Flick, it deteriorated, and eventually became a small indoor flea market. The building itself was going to collapse if something wasn’t done – soon. Thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers, a group called Destination Cleveland County was formed. They brought the old movie house back to life after having been dark for almost three decades. Reborn as the Don Gibson Theatre, the 400-seat venue acts primarily as a very intimate concert hall. The street in front of the theatre was blocked off to park the many bikes in the show. I arrived at about 4 pm and was escorted in to park “Miss Vickie” with the Indian motorcycles already in the show. I talked with many old friends as we admired the many Indian motorcycles. The AMCA members brought their old Harleys. They were selling raffle tickets on one of the giveaway later in the year. Everyone was talking about the weather. They had their phones dialed into the weather, and they were showing me the rain quickly approaching from the west. It was already chilly and windy. A couple brought their bikes to the show on a trailer or the back of an old pick-up truck. They figured that if it started to rain, they wouldn’t have to ride in it. I really didn’t want to ride in the rain, either. At a little after 5 pm, I decided to head home. It hadn’t started to rain yet but there were a few sprinkles. It didn’t rain at home at all that night. It all went right around Shelby. It was an eventful evening, and I hope to do it again soon.

Prayers For Angie Ride

By: Mark Shue On April 22nd, the Prayers For Angie Ride was a great success. The event was held at Tailgators Sports Grill in Locust, NC. It was hosted by the Guardian Nomads Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. The ride was held to raise funds for a wonderful lady who is bravely fighting stage 4 breast cancer and her family. Over 60 bikes and several cars participated in the ride through open country covering 3 counties. Afterwards, we returned to Tailgators and enjoyed live music by the Too Much Toni Band. After a 50/50 drawing, donations and baked goods were sold, we were able to present the family with a check for $3,563. Many thanks to the Man Upstairs for good weather and a safe ride, to the many friends who helped make it happen, the Too Much Toni Band, Tailgators, and the Guardian Nomads LEMC.

Kerri D. Efird 19th Memorial Scholarship Ride By: Charles Holcombe Saturday, April 29th was the annual Kerri D. Efird Scholarship Ride. It’s always the last Saturday in April. It’s the largest ride in Stanly County beginning near Locust, NC at West Stanly High School (306 E Red Cross Rd., Highway 24/27, Oakboro, NC) and riding to Cox’s Harley-Davidson in Asheboro, NC. It is always police escorted so the hundreds of bikes can get through two counties effortlessly. This year there were a lot of new riders in the group including the Ain’t Right Riders, a motley crew out for a good ride to anywhere! The entire turn-out for this ride was strong, and usually is. The ride is much like a Reunion Ride because of the people that show up time after time, the volunteers, and behind the scene folks that put a lot of un-seen effort into this ride. Many are catching up time with each other because they haven’t been together since the last ride. It’s really cool to wander through the sea of bikes to see all the custom stuff and some new bike bling! There were at least 200 bikes and 400 people in attendance; around $14000 was raised today for a great cause. Collectable shirts are new every year and a lot of great raffle prizes are donated by many folk and sponsors. This was a “donation only” ride, never a fee. Along the way of the ride there were lots of people waving in various spots as they stood beside the highway. As far as I could see behind me there wasn’t an end to the bikes. It had to have been two miles or more from the front to the back at times. Lane Furr held the captain’s seat leading the ride on a beautiful April day with the temps reaching into the eighties. Scott and Tracy Efird put in much effort to keep Kerri’s memory alive and do a rather nice job at it! All of the funds raised go to the Kerri D. Efird scholarship for West Stanly High School seniors. Not one emotion has been lost as it is evident in their eyes in the 19-years of putting this ride on. I know it must be very rough for them to do this every year, but it yields great rewards that are timeless for the students selected to be a recipient of this scholarship. It is also timeless for those that support, volunteer, and attend this ride. A special thanks those officers that helped with the ride which include The Stanly County Sheriff’s Department, Albemarle PD, Troy PD, The North Carolina Highway Patrol, and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department. 1st Annual Operation Christmas Child Benefit Ride By: Renee and Danny April 22, 2017 Grace Baptist Church held it’s 1st Annual Operation Christmas Child (OCC) Benefit Ride. For those of you who aren’t familiar with OCC it’s taking a simple shoebox and filling it with gifts like stuffed animals, hats, school supplies, and hygiene products and sending them all over the world to children less fortunate than our own. It is also a way to spread the Gospel, to give them hope, and to let them know they are loved by God as well as many others. It was our first time putting a benefit ride together so we had no idea where to start but, we had several friends, Marty Bullins, owner of Bull Bagger, and Johnny Lawrence, who stepped right up and helped us out and the rest is history. They told us about The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and how you would help us get the word out for free. So, thank you for your help as well. We started out at Bull Bagger in Pine Hall, NC. We were blessed to have around 26 bikers and some doubles. The weather wasn’t the best. They were calling for storms that afternoon, so we were doing a lot of praying for the rain to hold off until they returned to the church where we would serve a spaghetti dinner and give away prizes, a 50/50, and 2 Gatlinburg vacations. Well, the ride was shortened a little, but they rode around

60 miles and had safe travels. As far as the rain, well, God is always in control of the timing and he heard our prayers. Honestly, as soon as they pulled their bikes back into the church parking lot, we told them to pull their bikes under the few sheltered spots we had so they wouldn’t get wet. Then the bottom fell out and it poured rain. We are thankful to all riders that supported our OCC mission and hope you all and many more will come out next year. Thank you.

Story and photo by Alan Dockery April starts getting busy with lots of rides, but the afternoon of the 22nd I had to dash out to my buddy Tim’s place for the Street Survivors MC 40th Anniversary Party. One of the oldest clubs in the Hickory, NC, area, they are still a thriving group active in local rides and events. It was good to relax with old friends and enjoy some BBQ and cold beers while we talked about rides and rallies gone by. Several of the grown kids of friends were there now that they are riding and getting more involved in the biker life. I saw patches from several of the other area clubs there celebrating with the Street Survivors. I talked with Big D, Sam Dunn, who at 71 years old is the last surviving member of the guys who started the Street Survivors. “We have been a family club from the beginning, he said. “There were times you could bring kids to the club house for some events, but not always. The club has always been involved in charities, Christian organizations, aid to the homeless, orphans, and others in need.” “Forty years ago, we were probably the biggest club around at that time with 33 members,” Big D said. “Bill Winford and Pops Bollinger and I started a club

called the Iron Knights. Another club, The Hawks, club house burned down and they didn’t have a place to meet. So, they approached us about merging the two clubs. Well they didn’t want to go with the Iron Knights name and we didn’t go with the Hawks. So, Jim Hunnicutt and Luke Saine came up with that Lynyrd Skynyrd Street Survivors name and everyone liked that.” “We have gone up and down in membership over the years,” he said. “We are growing with new younger members. We ride and party with other family clubs in the area.” The club president, Stump said, “I would like to give a big thanks to the Ramblers, Ghost Riders, Windjammers, Knights, Gargoyles, and our friends for coming out to support us. Thanks to Buick Mclain for a kick ass job with the music. It was a good time hanging out with some of our founding members listening to stories about the good old days.”

Ridin Hawg Wild Fights Autism By: Rick Gammons April 29th was a busy day. There were several rides going on that day, but 50 some bikes decided to ride for Sammy Jones, a young man with Autism. Ridin Hawg Wild set up a tent at Lexington’s BBQ Cook Off and bikers responded. There were people everywhere when I arrived in Lexington and they all seemed to be there for the BBQ celebration. At roughly 11:15am, the announcement for kickstands up was given, along with thanks to riders and volunteers. Bikes left out to run for Sammy. The ride consisted of three stops - Morgan Ridge, Spyder’s Place, and AmVets Post 17. These were chosen well, giving the riders a decent ride, but not so long that folks began to become tired. At about 4:30 pm bikes began rolling back in to the BBQ festival. It looked like everyone had a large time. There were smiles and “crazy” laughter all through the biker crowd. The money for registration cost, 50/50, best and worst hand, will help Sammy get proper care. It also helps to pay the tremendous medical cost that the family must face. I didn’t hear who or how much

were given to the winners, but I hope (as the biker community usually does) that all was given back to help Sammy. Here is a paraphrased account from Mandy Ellis, Sammy’s mom: “First, I want to thank all rider support, family friends and volunteers! Living with Autism is tough. For Sammy, it’s all he knows. I pray by his bed as he sleeps, asking for relief. Every autistic child is different, but absent social skills and structure are part of every autistic child. Parents need one thing - an open heart. We do not need you to fix it, just love us through it. In 2009, I worked at Big Rock Tavern. Owner, Sean Smith, had bike night every week and it included some amazing folks. Sean agreed to do a ride that happened in October of that year. In 2010, I was anxious to make our ride bigger and better. I approached the BBQ Festival director, Stephanie Nasat, to see if any events involved motorcycles. She said that they did not, but wanted to help our cause. This was the year the ride became “Ridin Hawg Wild”. In 2016, we came together to discuss changes for 2017. For 8 years, we supported Autism Speaks. With that said, we decided to spread awareness for a boy who became autistic at age 4. Sammy is now older, and his needs have changed significantly, and to this the committee decided to support him through the ride’s fundraising efforts. The ride now supports Sammy’s therapy needs, medications, behavioral support, and adaptive care. Over the past 7 years we have been blessed with donations and participation. I cannot thank everyone enough. There are some big hearts in this country! Thank you for walking through this journey with my family and thank you for loving us through it.”

Held at the historic Switzerland Inn in Little Switzerland, NC, the conference is billed as the largest women’s motorcycling conference on the east coast. Mountain Moxie brought in riders from across America for the weekend, some as far away as California. Yes, most attendees rode their bikes to the event! ville, CA and her friend, Kelly Pankey rode to the event putting in over 2336 miles during the 4 days they took to get there! They were going to take the scenic route back and use 7 days this time. Talk about awe inspiring women! Wendy has ridden in three 11-day, 11,000-mile Iron Butt Rallies. Wendy is currently the top female rider having finished 3rd in the 2013 rally. Wendy has just finished in 2nd place in a 32-hour rally a few weeks ago, out of a field of about 50 riders. Wendy went to the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute and has worked for various shops & dealerships around the country, and has owned her own shop since 2004. Wendy is factory certified by Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and several smaller marquises. She has also worked at a custom builder/Harley shop and has about 17 years of experience working on them. During Mountain Moxie, she spoke to the attendees about her life experiences and what brought her to being a shop owner/ mechanic and did a clinic on bike maintenance. Several riders had issues with their bikes over the weekend and Wendy was gracious enough to help everyone with their issues without charge. Danell Lynn was another speaker at the event. She is the first solo-woman ever to break the world record for Longest Journey by Motorcycle in a single country (BlackTie2BlackTop), where she took 1 year to ride in all 50 states and Canada. She currently holds that record with 48,600 miles. Which does not include her miles in Canada. Danell was the sole female rider in The Ride Of My Life – Cambodia Documentary. She continues to do humanitarian work throughout the globe with her foundations Threading Hope and Highwire. She is the author of Philanthropic Wanderlust. Robin Dail and Beth Lavinder spoke about their great adventure earlier this year. These ladies took on the Rim Road during a 5-day trip to circumnavigate Iceland. They spoke about the trials and tribulations of the trip, how much planning and being flexible with arrangements is needed for a large trip and

plans for new adventures! Laura Smith, owner of Worse For Wear spoke about her clothing line. She designs riding wear made from Kevlar to protect your body in the event of an unexpected dismount. She has been a rider for 20 years and seeing the need for quality riding gear started her own manufacturing plant in Richmond, VA with her husband, Scott. She is currently training for her first Iron Butt ride. Linda Doll Cluxton from Hendersonville, NC spoke about her career as a moto photographer. She has shot events all over the world, including Isle Of Mann, Austria’s ISTD and others. She began her racing career at age 56 with the AHRMA (American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association). Mark Brown, with Moto Mark 1, did demonstrations during the weekend on Maximum Control showing proper bike placement and quick transitions from one turn to the next. Proper head, eyes, clutch, and throttle control are the key to these techniques. There was also a staying safe mini training tour that took place. They gave away a $550 training class weekend in Burlington that Janice Martin from West Virginia won during the raffle giveaway! Liz Sorrell with Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law group spoke to the attendees during breakfast on Saturday morning about the importance of proper insurance coverages and offered some real-life tips on how to protect yourself before an accident occurs. She went over some laws that most riders are unaware of. Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law group was the title sponsor for Mountain Moxie this year. As a thank you to all who attended her presentation, the law group gave out small gift bags containing lip balm, a mirror, tic-tac’s, ear plugs and some other items. Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law group also gave away International Female Ride Day shirts to a few lucky winners of the trivia contest. Looking at all these speakers, I know you are wondering when did we find time to ride during the weekend! We were lucky that all speakers spoke during meal times which were in-

cluded in registration to the event. Talk about Ride To Eat and Eat To Ride! The Chalet Restaurant provided great food the entire weekend. We were overwhelmed with prime rib, fresh trout and all the trimmings on Saturday night. Friday night we enjoyed BBQ pork and chicken and all the trimmings. Mornings came with a typical Southern breakfast buffet including biscuits and gravy. Each evening we enjoyed the wine, beer, and cheese reception before dinner to mingle with other riders. Raffle items were given away throughout the weekend. Some high-end items included a set of Sena 20s; which were won by Selmisha Green who then auctioned them off and donated the money to InterAct. There were 2 jackets raffled off, a weekend MotoMark1 class, a custom pair of Worse For Wear jeans, and various other goodies. The weather didn’t want to cooperate with us during Mountain Moxie, but everyone was able to get out to ride at some point during the weekend. Saturday parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway was closed due to snow and ice. Even with less than ideal weather, most could ride on International Female Ride Day. Personally, I rode every day of the conference, getting in some seat time on the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Diamondback. All in all, it was a fantastic event, we are all looking forward to Mountain Moxie 2018! Heading home to Winston Salem on Sunday morning; me and my friend, Shelia decided to take the scenic route. We rode the parkway down to 226, then jumped on I-40 for a bit, headed up I-77N towards the VA line, then took 268, 89, old 52 and 66 home.

By: Rose On April 22nd, Double D Burnout Saloon at 1408 East Mountain Street in Kernersville, NC was the host again this year for the 2nd Annual Step Up For Soldiers Cook Off. If you are not familiar with the organization Step Up For Soldiers, it is a volunteer organization that supports our soldiers away from home and upon returning. They rely on sponsors and donations from private individuals. The help is based on need and eligibility. They pick one a month and assist to make a soldier’s life better. The event at Double D’s Burnout Saloon was sponsored by Texas Pete, and there was a variety of great food. The Shone boys had BBQ and won 1st Place for best BBQ, and people’s choice. The Marsh Pit won for best Chicken, Hawg Wild Catering won for best sauce, Michael Flynn had great wings and won new entry. There were five bands entertaining us including: Vince Parker, Maggie On Melrose, Under The Gun, Trailer Park Orchestra, and Ruckus. As always, the crowd was great. They form a gallant group of service men and women who have come together as family to form a brotherhood in motorcycle riding with a zest for life and for each other. Even if you didn’t know what that means, you’ve seen them and they are comprised of impressive individuals who have watched over and guarded the freedoms that most of us take for granted. The event was hosted by our own local Myrtle Beach, SC chapter 34-3, with chapters 34-1 (Midlands SC), 34-2 (Up State SC), 34-4 (Low Country SC), 15-1 (Fayetteville NC), 15-4 (Jacksonville / Wilmington NC) as well as 8 Veterans from Charlotte, NC rolling in to lend their support. The lots were full at Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson, by the time I got there, and over 90 bikes were roaring out of the parking lot by 11:30 AM, headed North to Barnacle Bills Rum and Raw Bar. The weather was perfect for short sleeve riding and let me tell you that this bunch was heard coming up Kings Highway as they cut a trail through Myrtle Beach, directly into the core of the city, with one hell of a parade from some of our finest service men and women. The party filled Barnacle Bills, flowed over the deck out front and into the street. Bikes lined 8th Avenue North in a great herd that filled the spaces all along the curb on both sides. The ride had picked up momentum

along the way and the local biker community threw in with them to make the day a real steel horse show of power. Next came the long ride North, to the VFW Outpost in Loris, before returning South to Magoo’s Sports and Spirits off the #501 for a few rounds of great, cold grog and some delicious, lip smacking, grub. I promise you that it looked like more than twice the number of bikes that were counted had rolled in and, for a big bar, the place was packed to capacity. Then, it was South to The Beaver Bar, where there the was a big time whoopin’ party with music, fun, and prizes. Over $2,000 in door prizes were given away throughout the ride and sporadic auctions held throughout the day raised over $300. The 50/50 drawings also garnered a few more hundred along the way. All in all, CVMA raised approximately $1,700 for the Veterans Support Ride. It made this old heart feel good to see such an outpouring of support for the lady I first met as Sportster Sam when I retired from the service 22 years ago and moved back to NC. She had a 1957 Sportster way back when. Sam is one of the original Roosters with a 25 Year Patch from Riders’ Roost. That’s where lots of y’all know Sportster Sam from. She and her friends help make the Spring Fling a party. When the band cranks up a fast song, Sam can shake that skinny body even faster. Everyone who knows Sam says thanks to the Tea Party Girls – Kristen Yost, Leslie Lail, Ginger Robin Eller, Pam Moose White, Sandi Harrell, Gloria Bryson Tart, Lacie Ann Fleming, Gail Hefner, Cathy Grotke, Gina Styer, Phyllis Lamay and Paula Wise – for putting on the ride. I got a quick comment from Sam as the day wound down. “My heart is so touched,” she said. “I’m loved by so many people. And I love all my people right back. I’m so happy right now. Don’t make me cry.” Yeah, all of us standing there had tears in our eyes. “Thanks to my Tea Party Girls. They rule. My family came out to help with the ride today. I’m so blessed with y’all.” “Thanks to some pretty amazing people, the ride came off without a hitch,” said Kristen. The list of businesses and people who contributed is long. “All the monies raised have been applied to Sam’s medical bills.” As I was writing this I got an update. “Sam is home, recovering from surgery and resting up,” Kristen said. “She will be out of work for a couple weeks. For those that are curious about how the dice run turned out, us Tea Party girls are even amazed at all the generosity. We raised $10,088 for Sam. Thank you everyone who rode and helped out. Much love too all!”

By: Bill Gallaway Sunday, April 23, 2017 was the date for the Christian Motorcyclists Association Spring Diaper Run For The Foothills Pregnancy Care Center. This year the weather was uncooperative as we were looking at a forecasted 2 or more inches of rain. That didn’t make for a pleasant day of riding. Usually there were riders from many of the local motorcycle ministries, but because of the rain there were no bikes present. However, there were 12 brave souls that showed up and were there to participate in the drive. The meeting place was at the Crosspoint Church at 1016 Tiger Blvd. Hwy 123 in Clemson, SC. The temperature was around 56º with a mist of rain coming down. Those that showed up were not going to let that rain on our parade. Jenny Cohenour, a representative from the Pregnancy Care Center located in Seneca, SC, met us as we arrived with car loads of diapers, baby food, baby wipes, and cash donations that go towards purchasing the diaper sizes they need and may not have. Each client receives a free diaper coupon each week when they come to the center to receive counseling, watch a parenting video, or attend a bible study. They

currently give out between 30 and 60 packages of diapers and wipes to clients each week. Foothills Pregnancy Center also serves the community with free pregnancy testing, free limited ultrasound, and abstinence training, as well as post abortion counseling to anyone who comes to the center seeking help, regardless of financial need. The next scheduled ride is planned for this fall. Watch for a flyer and pray for good weather. Come join us for a wonderful ride for a blessed cause. By: Jeanie Hood Carter After 3 years of hosting a Motorcycle Awareness Day and a short ride, The Bikers And Needy Children Foundation (The B.A.N.C.) made history on May 13th in Fayetteville, NC. The first two MOTORCYCLE AWARENESS signs were unveiled and dedicated on Sycamore Dairy Road, a location with 3 motorcycle dealerships on it including Fort Bragg HarleyDavidson. These signs were paid for by the funds raised from the past Motorcycle Awareness Day events hosted by the B.A.N.C. The signs were dedicated to Matt Heist, a local accident victim and veteran who was the inspiration for the B.A.N.C. on making a positive change for more motorcycle awareness, and Fayetteville’s Mayor Nat Robertson who guided the foundation in the right direction. There was happiness and tears of joy when the signs were unveiled and Matt said he couldn’t have gotten a better birthday present than to have these signs up and one dedicated in his name. He has suffered greatly from his accident but remains a true inspiration. It was a fantastic day! These signs are the first of their type on Fayetteville’s city streets. They are designed to catch the attention of the average “cagers”. They are big, they are bold, and they are a warning to be aware that there are motorcycles in the area. Horsefeathers Roadhouse Spring Jam Story and photo by Alan Dockery While some folks were dodging rain drops at the beach, bikers were rolling into Horsefeathers Roadhouse in Sherrills Ford, NC, for the Spring Jam on the second Saturday of May. I took the long way down there riding along the river. Old bikes love clear skies and cool air. By mid-afternoon the beer tubs were full and folks were enjoying the Spring Jam. New Horsefeathers T-shirts were available and a beer tub meant you didn’t have to go far for refreshment. Parties at Horsefeathers are fun since you can walk around the place and join several miniparties. There’s the group out front watching folks come and go, hangin’ out round the beer tub or talking in the shade. I like the Big Deck out back. Inside, the bar was hopping and great food was being served. Love them Hawg Wings and brisket. It was good seeing some old friends and making new ones. Out front Ziggy Pockets and Friends were entertaining folks playing songs us old bikers could sing along to. Ben Gatlin played later that evening as the party went well into the night.

Roll With Us Season Opener At Harley-Davidson Of Greensboro By: WildThing Saturday morning, April 22 started out a little gloomy, but later was a beautiful day for riding your motorcycle. There were a lot of events listed in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar as true evidence of the spring fever for riding that accompanies warm temps and sunshine. Harley-Davidson of Greensboro had planned a day of activities to lure riders to the store to browse the latest spring riding gear and, of course, the 2017 lineup of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. If you got there early, like 9 am, the first 50 through the door received a door prize and there was coffee and donuts. When we arrived, the all ladies Riding Academy class was getting their tour of the dealership and learning different types of motorcycles and gear available. Other folks were drifting in and picking up their Tour Pass for the Scavenger Hunt. It wasn’t like a regular hunt where you go out and try and find things. This was a series of inside the dealership activities, like sitting on your favorite bike with the new Milwaukee-Eight engine, or listening to your favorite song on the HD Boom!TM Audio, or get fitted for a new helmet. As you completed each

activity, you had to ask a staff member to initial your card. Then when finished you would enter your card for a drawing to win a H-D© Helmet and Mesh Jacket. I noticed some folks, card in hand, trying to complete some of the activities, while others were just enjoying perusing the great display of motorcycles on the It wasn’t like a regular floor. It was a real nice spread and everyone quickly lined up to partake. Several of us walked outside, plate in hand, and enjoyed the meal sitting on the benches in the sunshine. I really enjoy the activities at Harley-Davidson of Greensboro, the entire staff is so friendly and helpful. If you get a chance this spring or summer, ride on over to 538 Farragut St, at the I-40/85 split in Greensboro, NC and see for yourself. They will be moving to a new location soon, so do this and visit their Motorcycle Park next door, too.

Ride Of Pride Run To Veterans Restoration Quarters

By: Reggie Hunter On Saturday, April 29, 2017, 31 bikes from Rolling Thunder NC Chapters 2 & 6, American Legion Riders and a support trailer full of food from Tribute To The Troops headed to the Veterans Restoration Quarters in Asheville, NC. We also had

in the mix the new 2017 Daimler Trucks North America “Ride Of Pride” trucks and a host of DTNA employees, who were also veterans. We marshalled our group at Tilley Harley-Davidson of Statesville and then headed west to Asheville. The Veteran Restoration Quarters is sponsored by the Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry. Prior to going to the VAQ, our group stopped at Harley-Davidson of Asheville for a Blessing of the Bikes ceremony sponsored by the ABCCM and lead by an Air Force Reserve chaplain. After the ceremony, we headed over to the Restoration Quarters to deliver the much-needed food and clothing for both men and women, who stay there. We were given a tour of the facility and met with the veterans who were currently residents. We had a great time visiting the veterans and helping support this very vital and important mission. We returned to Tilley’s in Statesville to finish up the day, where we enjoyed Tilley’s Annual Spring Fling. The event featured performance artist and veteran, Rockie Lynn. What a great finish to an excellent day of veterans helping veterans. As mentioned earlier we had the two DTNA “Ride of Pride” trucks with our group all day. This is the 15th year these

special rolling memorials and tributes to our veterans have been built. The ROP’s will making many local “tours” before heading to Washington DC for the annual Memorial Weekend Rolling Thunder Rally. Rolling Thunder NC Chapter 2 will have the honor of escorting these two beautiful trucks all the way to Washington for the Rolling Thunder Demonstration Rally, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The first ROP truck is a Freightliner Cascadia and is owned by Schneider National Trucking, headquartered in Green Bay, Wisconsin. This truck’s graphics feature many of the major Veterans memorial sites, including The Wall, the Iwo Jima statue, the WWII Memorial, and many others. This marked the 10th year Schneider has been part of the ROP program. The second ROP is a Western Star Phantom and is owned by Chief Express, from Seagrove, NC. This truck is a memorial in memory of the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The graphics highlight the appearance of the infamous base prior to the attack in 1941 on the left side and present day on the right side. Both trucks feature ROP graphics including ROP logos, memoriam plaques, gold and blue star signage, and the POW/ MIA logo on the hoods. These trucks were proudly built at Daimler Trucks North America in Cleveland, NC.

The Independent Benefit Run #24 For Emily Hinton was held Sunday April 30th to raise money for 2-year-old Emily’s medical expenses. Emily was severely burned in a backyard explosion. The Burden Of Waiting Bros & Bro-ettes Over the last several years I have lost family members and friends to Cancer, Alzheimer and motorcycle wrecks. You know when someone dies or is facing difficult medical problems it has been a constant uncertainly, but things don’t always turn out the way we want or think they should, or even the way we ask for them to. We often find ourselves worrying about the next doctor visit or the test results instead of asking God to help us get through whatever the results are. We worry about how many days or months or even years we are going to have before we are separated by death. Regardless of the disease or diagnosis, each one of us will die one day. It’s hard sitting and watching a love one go through so much pain and suffering without wanting to help or do something. When Tank was so sick and hurting, a close friend prayed and asked God to give him some of his pain and God told him that he couldn’t handle it. We all go through different things in our life time. It doesn’t have to be a sickness. It can be anything that has us troubled, and thinking we are all alone and have no one to turn to and nowhere to turn. You need to remember these three things. 1) When you think no one cares about you just remember God has Angels camped

around you. 2) In the good times and bad times, Pray, Praise, and Worship. 3) To receive from God, you must believe. We’re around people every day that are hurting or troubled and we wonder how can we help them, or what we can do for them. The most important thing is to pray with them and for them. Don’t say you don’t know how to pray, it’s just like talking to a friend. If nothing else start with Luke 11:2-4 “Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. By: Johnny Reb Delivering the Carolinas best motorcycle magazine is a lot of hard work, but sometimes it can be a real blast! I went to Tuscarora MC’s anniversary party on Saturday, May 6th and I had way too much fun! They had it all going on, with great food, plenty of adult beverages and some great MC brotherhood. I talked with as many folks as I could and everyone was having a great time. Tuscarora always has great parties and this one was no different. I try to find out bikers’ concerns as I talk to various people in the lifestyle. The overwhelming concern is cage drivers’ inattentiveness, whether it be texting and driving or just plain not paying attention. I have seen too many brothers busted up due to these morons that think it’s okay to drive down the road looking at their phones. Come on idiots! Well, enough of me on my soapbox, and back to the story at hand. All in all, it really was a great time, and as always, I want to mention the MC’S that were present while I was there: The Brotherhood MC, Southern Sin MC, Ghost Riders MC, Dragon Slayers MC and the hosts Tuscarora MC. AMRA Bowling Green Janette Thornley and her Dream Chaser Racin’ team have gone through some changes since the 2016 season close. If it’s even possible, the team shows more determination and drive then before. Why? “Well”, says Janette, owner and operator of her 2015 Nitro burning Pro Fuel, “I left my corporate job in December and started my own business, we have added some new marketing partnerships and lastly I want to grow this sport, and share with others that dreams do come true!”. This past weekend in Bowling Green, KY, the team brought home the trophy along with bragging rights of number one qualifier, low ET, and top speed for the weekend. “This was our first Bowling Green event”, said Thornley “and what a great experience we had! Of course, running well helps but AMRA does a great job and the track was prepped well.” Since the team had never raced in Bowling Green, tuner Buddy Foss prepared a tune-up based on like conditions from another tracks. On Saturday, qualifying round one was a solid pass, running a 7.387 et at 172.78 mph. Hot and humid made tuning a challenge so only a slight change “I get was made for qualifying round butterflies two. The team had another strong pass, running a 7.370 et at 170.84 before every mph. The team decided to sit out pass...” for qualifying round three due to the heat. The ladder was set with a sixbike field and Janette was paired with number six qualifier George Elliott. Round one eliminations George did not make the call, so Janette ran a single. Her pass wasn’t clean and straight like Saturday’s, it was more like taking the long way which scrubbed off some time and she ran a 7.403 et at 171.90 mph. With a six-bike field, Thornley knew if she got past round one she would receive a bye for the semis. The team approached the round with expected results of a quicker pass than the previous one and they delivered! Running a 7.294 et at 168.35 mph, the team was excited that the motorcycle was happy and outperforming the others. As all competitions go, you can never count anyone out and as they entered the finals, Thornley was paired with Keith Kelley of Tennessee Thunder Racing. “Keith is one of the best on the tree” said Thornley, “I get butterflies before every pass but this one especially knowing Keith could tree the heck out of me.” As suspected, Kelly had a .006 light to Janette’s .153, but Dream Chaser Racin’ grabs the W. Running a 7.248 et at 171.16 mph vs. 7.546 et at

167.01 mph in the finals. “After a challenging weekend in Baton Rouge, our first race of the year, this win was a huge success for me and my husband; WE did this together and 100% on our own!” said Janette with tears in her eyes. “Yes, I’m an emotional person and milestones like this mean a lot to us.” We look forward to supporting the AMRA, www.AMRAOnLine.com, the rest of the season and may take in a few other races throughout the year if we can fit them into our budget and schedule. Sadly, lots of trashy people leave their mark on it. We had 16 members and friends of our chapter lend a hand. We gathered 23 bags and assorted debris and were done in an hour. That left us plenty of time to get ready for our Spring Diaper Run later in the day. After our morning trash pick-up on Saturday April 22nd, we hosted our semiannual run to support the Julie Valentine Center (JVC). The JVC serves the community by providing counseling and other critical needs for children and adults who are victims of abuse, sexual abuse, and rape. We provide diapers, clothing for rape victims, snacks and drinks, gift cards for clients, personal hygiene products, office supplies, and anything else they need for their daily operations. We hold two Diaper Runs, a Christmas In July, and an annual Toy Run that has been in running 32 years this year.

9TH Annual CVMA15-5 Ride By: Jerry Dahlberg Combat Vets NC 15-5, The “Original” Annual Benefit Ride was on May 6, 2017. This year’s ride was in memory of one of our members we recently lost, Richard “Da Breeze” Chroust. The event started at Crossroad Harley-Davidson in Wilkesboro, NC with live entertainment provided by Darren and Justin Music. Despite being overcast, over 300 motorcycles lined the parking lot by 1 pm when the ride departed for a fully police escorted scenic 50-mile ride to Queens Landing in Mooresville, NC. The festivities continued at Queens Landing with music provided by Kimberly White Project.

21st Annual Ride For The Child 2017 By: Bill Gallaway There were more than 140 people that rode for the charity and many others in attendance on Saturday, April 22, for the Annual Ride For The Child held in Easley, SC. The Parenting Place, Bleu Voodoo Bar & Grill, Bikers Of SC Upstate, and the Clemson Chapter of the Christian Motorcyclist Association hosted this annual event. This was a great turnout since there were many rides to choose from that day. The vendors were ready to accommodate the attendees. They consisted of Bikers Of SC Upstate, Damsel In Defense, Woodmen Life, and Iron Horse Motorcycle Lawyers. The weather was perfect for the near 100-mile route around town. Riders left Bleu Voodoo Bar & Grill in Easley SC, between 10:45 and 11:00 to start the 21stth Annual Ride For The Child. Their stops included Spinx, Aunt Sue’s Country Corner, Little Bud’s Spirits, and Foothills Motorsports. Tilley H-D Spring Fling Story and photo by Alan Dockery The last Saturday of April was one of those days filled with motorcycle magic. It was perfect light jacket weather. As I headed East on Highway 70, I saw more motorcyclists going that way. We waved as the group passed the old Tilley dealership. By the time we turned into Tilley Harley-Davidson, Statesville, NC, there were dozens of us joining the hundreds already there for the Spring Fling. Besides the great deals on Harleys and clothes and accessories, there was more to do at Tilley’s that afternoon. Inside several NASCAR stars were talking to customers and signing memorabilia. I saw Kyle Petty, Donnie Allison, Harry Gant, and Buddy Parrot there. Robinette Tilley was greeting and talking with customers and friends too. It’s so good to see Robinette at the dealership. Outside country music star, Rockie Lynne, was putting on a show. He started the show by dedicating it to Vickie Kress, well-loved Tilley H-D employee who greets folks at the front desk. Rockie is well known around here for his patriotic songs and support for the

military. He will be performing at Memorial Day services in Washington, DC. Checkout his new songs on the latest album “Faith.” To top off the door prizes for the day, Rockie donated a guitar.

There were some vendors at Tilley’s that afternoon. First you had to see Vickie for tickets on the Harley-Davidson cooler they were giving away. The profits from that drawing and other donations went to the Victory Junction Gang Camp. Then I got a Reuben Dog from D’s Food Truck and a cold beer from Skull Camp Brewery. 2017 Annual Ride For Jason And Friends Celebrates Its 13th Year! By: Shay Williamson We would like to thank the community for helping us have a record turnout, with near record heat, for our 13th Annual Ride For Jason And Friends in Raleigh, NC on April 29, 2017! This ride is to help raise money for Life Experiences, Inc., a non-profit organization that offers a choice of satisfying work experiences for adults with varying disabilities, and at the same time allows those adults the self-esteem of earning a wage for their work. Jason is a friendly, happy, hard working young man who has worked at Life Experiences for 13 years and has worked in the Enrichment Department for the past 8 years. This job includes preparing documents for shredding as well as assisting with other contracts. His energy and smiling face helps make every day brighter! Jason’s family and friends from Ohio make the 1,000-mile round trip journey every year to help raise money for Jason and his friends through programs and services that benefit our employees. The event started at Ray Price Harley-Davidson in Raleigh. From there, we went to Garcia Moto BMW Indian Ducati Motus KTM in North Raleigh and then on to Life Experiences in Cary for some good ole Southern BBQ provided by the local favorite, Danny’s Bar-B-Que, and some corn hole fun! The day’s events ended at a local area favorite, Abbey Road Tavern and Grill in Apex, NC where the winning and losing poker hands were awarded and door prizes were handed out. A great time was had by all!

Some friends were on a 6-day bike cruise but no one wanted to room with Nick, because he snored so loudly. They decided it wasn’t fair to make just one of them stay with him the whole trip, so they voted to take turns. The first night away Pete slept in the same room with Nick and comes to breakfast the next morning yawning and with his eyes all bloodshot. ‘Rabbit’ asked, “What happened to you? He told them, “Nick snored all bloody night so I just sat up awake all night”. The next night it was Rabbit’s turn. In the morning, same thing, but his hair all messed up, eyes all bloodshot and he is looking a bit crappy. The others said he looked awful! Rabbit replied, “Man, that Nick shakes the roof with his snoring. I watched him snore all night.” The third night was my brother Bill’s turn, a slightly older biker, I like to think him as a man’s man. Anyway, the next morning he comes to breakfast bright-eyed with a broad smile. “Good morning!” he said. They couldn’t believe it. They said, “Man, what happened?” He said, “Well, we got ready for bed. I went and tucked Nick into bed, patted him on the arse, and kissed him good night so Nick sat up and watched me all night.”

My friend is sleeping with your wife right now, so he asked me to keep you occupied.” The Rabbi smiles, puts a brotherly hand on Irving’s shoulder and says, “You better hurry home, Irving, my wife died two years ago!”

A self-important college freshman walking along the beach took it upon himself to explain to a senior citizen resting on the steps why it was impossible for the older generation to understand his generation. “You grew up in a different world, actually an almost primitive one” the student said loud enough for others to hear. “The young people of today grew up with television, jet planes, space travel, man walking on the moon. We have nuclear energy, ships, and cell phones, computers with light speed… and many more.” After a brief silence, the senior citizen responded as follows. “You’re right, son. We didn’t have those things when we were young…so we invented them. Now, you arrogant little sh!t what are you doing for the next generation?” The applause was amazing! A guy comes home and pulls into the driveway with a new Sportster. His neighbor comes over and says “What’s up with that bike? You already have that custom chopper and that big touring bike, why would you want a Sportster?” The man answers “I got

A biker joined the priesthood. He was nervous about hearing confessions, so he asks the older priest to sit in on his confessions. The new priest hears a couple of confessions, and then the old priest asks him to step out of the confessional for a few suggestions. The old priest suggests, “Cross your arms over your chest, and rub your chin with one hand and try saying things like ‘Yes, go on’ and ‘I understand.’” The new priest crosses his arms, rubs his chin with one hand and repeats all the suggested remarks to the old priest. The old priest says, “Now, don’t you think that’s a little better than slapping your knee and saying, ‘No sh!t, what happened next’?” A young guy from Texas moves to California and goes to a big department store looking for a job. The manager says, “Do you have any sales experience?” The kid says, “Yeah, I was a salesman back home in Texas.” Well, the boss liked the kid, so he gave him the job. “You start tomorrow. I’ll come down after we close and see how you did.” His first day on the job was rough but he got through it. After the store was locked up, the boss came down. “How many sales did you make today?” The kid says, “One.” The boss says, “Just one? Our sales people average 20 or 30 sales a day. A man and a woman who had never met before, but who were both married to other people, found themselves assigned to the same sleeping room on a Trans-continental train. Though initially embarrassed and uneasy over sharing a room, they were both very tired and fell asleep quickly, he in the upper berth and she in the lower. At 1 am, the man leaned down and gently woke the woman saying, “Ma’am, I’m sorry to bother you, but would you be willing to reach into the closet to get me a second blanket? That’s a great idea!”, he exclaimed. “Good,” she replied, “Get your own friggin blanket!” After a moment of silence, he farted. A biker and his ole lady are shopping in their local Wal-Mart. The biker picks up a case of Miller Lite and puts it in their cart. “What do you think you’re doing?” asks the ole lady. “They’re on sale, only $10 for 24 cans”, he replies. “Put them back, it’s a waste of money”, she demands, and so they carry on shopping. A few aisles further on along, she picks up a $20 jar of face cream and puts it in the basket. “What do you think you’re doing?” asks the biker. “It’s my face cream. It makes me look beautiful,” she replies. The Biker retorts: “So does 24 cans of Miller Lite and its half the price!”
