I

trust that you all had a great month of May. There were so many great events and we capped it off with Memorial Day! Thanks to all the veterans and active duty personnel. You make it happen! June is a pretty slow month in the motorcycle business because most people bought that new bike and rode it to the MB Rally in May and now they are focused on family vacations and Father’s Day (June 16th). It is just one of the cycles we go through every year, but there are still a lot of events in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar to choose from. Pick out a few and ride. If you can only get to one event in June, check out the Smoke Out 14 (SmokeOutRally.com) on the cover and on page 3. This event has it all. Music, Wild Choppers, Rat Bikes, Mini Bike Races, 50’s Style Drag Racing on the ¼ mile, and Cool Vendors. Camping is the way to go to this event, but day passes are available. This event is not a HOG Rally, so do not bring your children. This is an adult venue and no one under 18 is admitted. I do not think I need to say anything else except REBEL SON! You cannot miss this one! The weather is actually beginning to get warmer here in the Triad. It seems as if summer is about 30 days behind schedule this year. Perhaps warmer weather will last longer into the fall this year. Who knows? All I know is that it doesn’t have to be perfect weather to ride. In fact, every marginal weather day that I ride, I count as a bonus because I beat the odds and rode. Some people missed those days and you never get those back. Another thing that I realized is that on marginal days you find exceptional people out on the roads and at events because all the pussies wimped out and stayed home. We might get a little wet or cold, but I guarantee you that we had fun! Speaking of fun, check out the Bike Night at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro on July 5th. Harley-Davidson of Greensboro, World Class Powersports, and The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine will be representing. Come and enjoy a night of baseball and fireworks with all of your biker friends. There will be free, secure bike parking on Bellemeade Street, we will ride our motorcycles in a parade around the warning track on the field before the game, watch the Greensboro Grasshoppers stomp the Lakewood Blue Claws, and then enjoy one of the best fireworks displays that I have ever experienced. Call 336-268-2888 to purchase tickets in advance and get a $2 discount. Tell them you saw the ad in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and you want to sit with the bikers. See the ad on page 22 and make plans to attend NOW! Remember, motorcycles are all about fun. Don’t screw it up!

HB 109 Passes Through House To Senate Committee For Consideration By: Mark Infield In spite of all the hype about the changing of the guard in Raleigh, North Carolina motorcyclists took another hit in May. HB 109 struggled to get through the House Transportation Committee and then languished in Judiciary B in spite of the Representative Torbett’s efforts to move it along. After not being on the Judiciary B Committee schedule for several weeks, HB 109 was read on May 8th. There was a lot of discussion and all the usual emotional testimony from doctors and insurance executives who prognosticated about the blood bath on the highways and skyrocketing insurance costs if the bill was passed (which is just not verifiable with facts). However, there was no call for a vote because the “yeas” just weren’t there. Representative Torbett managed to get the bill calendared May 15th. Although the bill did not receive a favorable report, it is still alive. The House Judiciary B Subcommittee adopted a committee substitute for HB 109 gutting the original bill and directing the Legislative Transportation Oversight Committee (to view a list of members go here: http://goo.gl/0Av18) of which Torbett is the co chair, to study the issue of motorcycle helmet safety laws in North Carolina and other states, to consider whether North Carolina’s law should provide exceptions to the helmet requirement, and to report back to the General Assembly on or before the beginning of the 2014 session. The revised bill passed through the House on 5/15/13 and was sent to the Senate. On May 16th the bill passed its first reading in the Senate and was referred to the Joint Transportation Committee (http://goo.gl/t2eUR ) (Isn’t it amazing how fast a piece of legislation that they favor travels through the process?). The provisions of the bill will likely be included in the omnibus “study” bill that will be considered near the end of this year’s session. This turn of events makes it even more important for us to continue to send factual information to representatives on the committee. The goal is to educate them about the FACTS and MERITS of allowing riders to choose their own safety gear and turn them away from this emotional reaction to untruthful testimony. Representative Torbett has done a stand up job working this bill. Now is a good time to send him a short e-mail thanking him. Without his hard work and dedication to the cause, HB 109 would be dead and our next opportunity would be to reintroduce a helmet choice bill in 2015. His e-mail address is: John.Torbett@ncleg.net CBA Vice-President Charlie Boone has also been very involved in helping HB 109 along. A short e-mail to fbird54@ bellsouth.net thanking him for his effort would be appreciated. So we live to fight another day, and we will have to fight to get this measure passed in the House and the Senate. Go here

Representative Torbett speaks to a gathering of Freedom Fighters at the Capitol Building in Raleigh on April 20. to view the bill history http://goo.gl/Ek0sf I have heard people say that HB 109 got further than any helmet bill before. And that is true, but that really doesn’t matter, does it? Until it becomes law, North Carolina riders are still under government mandate to wear gear we may not want to wear. Do you want the government to legislate what kind of shoes you wear when you ride? Or outlaw riding in shorts? I know I do not want legislators who do not have a clue about riding making laws that restrict my right to decide for myself what is appropriate to wear. So please contact the members of the Joint legislative Transportation Oversight Committee now and I will continue to report on the progress of this legislation In The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and on The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Facebook page as well as on our Freedom Fighters e-mail list. Want to be on the list? E-mail me at Mark@FTCarolinas and put Freedom Fighters in the subject line. Remember Braveheart? FREEDOM!

Hogs & Rags 8th Annual Charity Rally By: Wendy Rogers The Hogs & Rags 8th Annual Charity Rally was held on April 27th this year, and what a fantastic turnout it was. There were almost 200 bikes and 50 cars on this ride that was escorted to Myrtle Beach SC. It started at the Fayetteville Airborne & Special Ops Museum at 7:30 am and went the Rocking A Ranch for a country buffet style breakfast. After breakfast we stopped in Tabor City State Line for a water break and then proceeded on to Landry’s at Broadway At The Beach in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. This is where we had lunch and the door prizes and raffle were drawn. The winners of the reverse drawing decided to split the money and 4 lucky people walked away with $625 cash each! The ceremony was held on May 14th at the Huske Hardware House in downtown Fayetteville, NC, where the big checks were given to each organization from this year’s proceeds. In addition to giving to the Cancer Society, Children’s Shriners Hospital and Kidsville, Hogs & Rags also gave $1000 to the Airborne & Special Operations Museum to help jump-start their fund raising of $5000 to create an area of monuments to represent all the dogs that have been killed in wars. A Fayetteville group is proposing to create a memorial for dogs that have died while serving in the military. Army Sgt. Maj. Chuck Yerry is president of the Fayetteville-based Special Operations Forces K9 Memorial and wants to honor the specially trained dogs killed since the September 11 attacks. Yerry says the dogs have skills that soldiers cannot do and act upon in a battlefield. He wants the memorial on the grounds of the Airborne & Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville. Paul Galloway with the museum’s foundation says the dogs should be honored for their services also, and this should hap-

pen. It is going to be a life-sized statue of a Belgian Malinois wearing combat gear. Hopefully we will see it in the near future. Hogs & Rags also gave $1000 to the Wounded Warriors Foundation. In the last 8 years, Hogs & Rags, has given over $100,000 in charity proceeds. Special thanks to all the great sponsors and the participants, if it wasn’t for these wonderful and highly respected people doing their part, it would not have even happened at all! Thank you all again and please go ahead and mark your calendars for next year’s ride, which will be the April 26, 2014. Keep your eyes on the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar so you don’t miss a great time for such a great cause!

The 11th Annual Outer Banks Bike Week 2013

By: Rose and LLoyd This year was the 11th Annual Outer Banks Bike Week. At 7 am on April 25th, a group of about 20 bikes and 35 people from United Riders Riding Club met at Cracker Barrel in Greensboro. The crowd was excited and ready to hit the road for a weekend at the Outer Banks Rally, a much-anticipated event. There were several that were new and had no idea what to expect, but that was all about to change. When we left out it was a beautiful morning to ride, not cold, but cool and the sun was shining. We took I-40 to US 64. The countryside view is simply amazing. We made a stop at Rocky Mount Harley-Davidson for a rest, shopping break, and just to chill for a bit. Then it was back on the road. Taking 64 to Manteo and 158 -12 to Nags Head. This is when the beauty really begins. You start to smell the air and the ocean and you can sense that you’re almost there. We crossed over the bridges that are a magnificent wonder. They seemed to go for miles, and to see the line of bikes is a sight any biker would love. There was water on each side, the sun was shinning, and we knew that in minutes we would arrive at our destination and be ready to enjoy all the Outer Banks Bike Rally had to offer. We crossed into Kitty Hawk and started seeing bikes everywhere, vendors set up on all sides and people just loving the experience of the Outer Banks Bike Rally. We arrived at Sea Kove Motel at about 3:30 and virtually took over. The owners, Bill and Cari Forman were ready for us and had even prepared a designated a place for us to have a bon fire in the evening. In the morning, we left out in groups as some wanted to see different sites. With four lighthouses including the tallest in the United States, the Cape Hattress, the Wright Brothers Museum, the wild Spanish Mustangs roaming on the beach. The history and sights to see are unlimited. So some went south to Bodie Island and took the ferry to Cape Hatteras. Some went north to Corolla Light House, Wright Brothers Museum, Grave Digger Monster Trucks, and some just decided to go try to spot the wild horses. Each day you can explore some of the most magnificent sights on the east coast. It seems like you are in another world and time stands still or slows down to give you the time to relax and enjoy a wonderful adventure and the beauty of it all. We spent a lot of time visiting the dealerships and learning about some of the history involved. Some like me were in awe that this is just a short drive away and an experience to savor. The Outer Banks Harley-Davidson showroom is dedicated to the year 1903, which was the year of the Wright Brothers famous first flight and the year of the first Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The Harley dealership has life sized pirates figures at every corner at both Outer Banks Harley-Davidson on mainland in Harbinger in Currituck County and Nags Head Harley-Davidson just 13 miles south of the Wright Memorial

Bridge. At both locations there are vendors and entertainment all week. The Harley-Davidson Demo fleet was at Nags Head Harley-Davidson giving approximately 300 riders an opportunity to test ride various models. The official bike show and poker run was also held At Nags Head. The music was great. A variety of groups like Ted Riser, Rumours, Brass Roots, Dread Knecks, and Michelle Leigh provided incredible sounds from the stage at Outer Banks Harley-Davidson while we walked around and visited the vendors. The Beer Belly contest and Bikini contest were still on the schedule this year with congratulations to the rising champ, Mull, for winning Beer Belly Contest, and to beautiful Miss Sarah Thomas for taking 1st Place and becoming Miss Outer banks Bike Week 2013. The Outer Banks Bike Week Women’s Bike show was held on Thursday. There were 11 entries. The bikes were amazing and I am glad that I was not a judge. It was extremely close, but congratulations are due to Beth Roberts and her 1993 XL 1200 Sportster for 1st Place. If all this is a little too exciting for you, every year there are guided tours to take you to the many historical sites on the island. This year “Southern Explorers”, “Knotts Island”, “Fallen Rider Memorial”, and “The Mystery Ride” were added. On the Outer Banks there is something for everyone: the beauty, the entertainment, and the history of a place that seems to be cut off from the world to the vendors and the many restaurants and watering holes. The Outer Banks Bike Week is the one “must attend” events for all bikers. You can ride and fellowship every place you stop. If you haven’t been yet, watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for the fall dates for the 6th Annual Outer Banks Bike Fest or plan for next spring’s 12th Annual Outer Banks Bike Week.

5th Annual Miles For Mutts On Saturday, April 13th, the 5th Annual Miles For Mutts was held to benefit the Humane Society of Alamance County. The day started out a little on the cool side, but as the bikes rolled in, the weather warmed up. 208 bikes along with 114 passengers signed up for the ride. Again this year, Tinker took everyone on a great ride through the southern part of Alamance County to the first stop at East Coast Custom Cycles where they enjoyed hot dogs, beverages, and a few giveaways. Next stop, Tinker took everyone on a nice ride through the country to Cuz’s Tavern where Dale Bridges and his staff were ready to serve up some more cold beverages. The last leg of the ride brought everyone to Lucky’s Saloon for the after party with the Mason Lovette Band and Texas Road House of Burlington serving up some delicious pulled pork BBQ, grilled chicken, green beans, corn, salad, and rolls. Thank you Texas Road House. You really rocked out the food. Thank You Mason Lovette for bringing some great music to party the evening away. A great big Thank You to Barry Hicks, a.k.a. BIG SEXY, and Chuck Gates for opening up Lucky’s Saloon just in time for the 5th Annual Miles For Mutts Benefit. This year, the 5th Annual Miles For Mutts Benefit Ride was dedicated to the memory of Amanda Peeler who passed away January 23, 2013. Amanda and her husband Todd of Sunshine Reality and Property Management in Burlington sponsored this event from the beginning. The money raised from this event was given to The Humane Society of Alamance County in Amanda’s name. Also, T. J. Benson of Hardscape Solutions and Kenny Money of GSR Exteriors purchased a pink dogwood tree that was planted at Lucky’s Saloon in remembrance of Amanda. As you ride into and as you leave Lucky’s Saloon, you will see this beautiful dogwood. A few have left some mementos on the tree, so feel free to do the same. Amanda was truly missed but we felt she had a lot to do with making sure the weather was perfect for the day and that she was smiling down on us from heaven. R.I.P. our Amanda, you are loved and missed. Heaven truly has an angel who watched over all of us as we rode in support of Miles For Mutts. “Great Job” goes out to our emcee, Kenny Money, for getting up on stage and for getting that crowd motivated and donating your time and money to this cause. We appreciate all you do for Miles For Mutts. Susan Walters of Graham won the John Deere Z655 Mower. Susan said she had never won anything like this and could not believe it. Mike Storey of Alamance won the ride in the open cockpit airplane. Jessi Marcinkiewicz of Elon won the iPad and gave it to her husband for his birthday. Congratulations to all of you. We want to say a huge “Thank You” to Tinker for auctioning off his ponytail and bringing an additional $1,175 to give to the HSAC and making a donation to Locks of Love! You did

good Tinker. Our old friend Jonathan King from Shenandoah HarleyDavidson in Staunton, Virginia sent some great items to give away. So make a point to stop by and say “Thank You” to Jonathan and the staff at Shenandoah Harley-Davidson for supporting the 5th Annual Miles For Mutts Event. We want to say Welcome and Thank You to our new Executive Director of the Humane Society of Alamance County, Caitlin Daly. Caitlin came on board back in December and was so excited about this event. She got to see for the first time what the biker community is all about and we think she was in a little bit of shock at all the great people that turned out to support the Humane Society of Alamance County. Caitlin really took ownership of this event by going out and getting some great raffle items and posting this on the HSAC Facebook page and the HSAC website. She is working hard to have a NO KILL shelter in Alamance County and the funds raised will certainly help in achieving that goal not to mention all the animals that will be helped in the meantime. Caitlin would also like to thank everyone for coming out to support the HSAC. Thank You to all the volunteers that sold t-shirts, raffle ticket, 50/50 tickets, mower tickets, and helped with registration, working the gate, taking care of our Facebook page, and setting up that day. Without you this event would not have been possible. Thank you to everyone who signed up to ride, bought raffle tickets, t-shirts, and showed up to support this event. So, who said that the number 13 was unlucky? April 13th, 2013 turned out to be a very lucky day for The Humane Society of Alamance County. A grand total of $17,035 was raised for this great cause. Thank You to our sponsors this year, Lucky’s Saloon, Sunshine Reality and Property Management, Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas Inc., Texas Roadhouse of Burlington, Adams Towing & Recovery, Wilson Tire, Maco Builders, Mitch

We hope that everyone had a great time at the 5th Annual Miles For Mutts Event and we are looking forward to next year! Until then, ride safe, ride free, and we will see you at Lucky’s Saloon. Ray Price Open House

By: Sarah Hager Ray and Jean Price opened up their doors for the dealership’s biggest event of the spring, Open House. On Saturday, April 20th the section of South Saunders leading up to the building’s entrance was lined with bikes, vendors, and food trucks. A variety of activities throughout the day drew in more than 1,500 people. The Ray Price parking lot was filled with bike show contestants. This year’s show was organized by David Butterworth and judged by Karen Peterson, Jerry Gauss, and Stan Simmerson. Bill Young also helped. It featured 12 categories, including Antique, Triumph, Trike, V-Rod, Buell, FX/Dyna, Heritage/Fat Boy, Softail, Sport Dresser, Dresser, Street Custom, and Sportster. The contestants didn’t just have cool paint jobs, they also had custom hardware, handmade detailed seats, and mods lengthening and lowering the bike. Inside, local Harley-Davidson models, including both professionals and volunteer H.O.G./L.O.H. members and Ray Price staff, strutted their stuff on the runway built over the drag strip in the center of the building. They modeled a wide selection from the MotorClothes® Department, including items from the new spring line. High-energy music and fierce catwalks led to an official welcome from Ray and Jean as they thanked everyone for coming. All My Rowdy Friends, a Hank Williams Jr. tribute band, played two sets outside under the sun. The band is a Ray Price favorite and has played Ray Price Capital City Bikefest among other rallies, like Myrtle Beach Bike Week and Thunder in the Smokies Bike Rally. In 2011, they also won “Best Country Tribute Band” at the Charlotte Music Awards. The official Ray Price Akea Express Drag Racing Team nitro drag bike was showcased for the crowd outside the front doors. This bike blasts 1,000 horsepower, making it powerful enough to run more than 235 MPH and cover a quarter mile in just over six seconds. The team demonstrated the cranking of the bike twice. Onlookers excitedly covered their ears and watched the throttle role back and the bike come to life. Open House also marks a day of awarding and recognizing a lot of our riders. Each year, Ray Price hosts the “Rides Of March” contest, which challenges bikers to ride as much as possible in the month of March and creating a competition of most mileage logged during this time. This year’s contest had a new component. Riders could also compete not only by how far they traveled, but also where they went. They were encourage to take pictures and submit to our first Rides Of March Photo Contest. Continued From Pg# 29 this year was Tim Bryan of Garner, who rode 3,575 miles on a 2009 FLHX Street Glide. The photo contest top winner was Aaron Guitarte, who took an action shot while riding his Triumph Tiger. Raffle Chairman, Richard Barfield awarded the highly sought-after H.O.G. Raffle bike, a new 2013 Chrome Yellow Pearl Street Glide, to Raleigh H.O.G.’s very own Michael DuPree. Instead of calling out the winning number, they called the number on the ticket and everyone in the building quietly waited hoping to hear their phone ring. It was great to see Michael’s face when he realized it was his phone ringing! Other cash prizes were also awarded. James Carter of Star won $2000 cash, Kevin Watts of Raleigh won $1000 cash, and Larry Overby took home a $500 cash prize. The raffle began at September’s Ray Price Capital City Bikefest and closed right before the winner was announced. Throughout that time, nearly all of the available tickets were sold to both North Carolina residents and out-of-state visitors. This annual raffle raised more than $30,000 for the 21 H.O.G. charities, including American Red Cross, National MS Society of Eastern NC and USO of NC RDU. Lucky Number prizes were awarded that afternoon as well. More than 25,000 lucky numbers were eligible for prizes like a new Harley-Davidson Sportster, concert tickets, gift cards, and more. All day, attendees entered into the “Second Chance Drawing,” as you had to be present to win the Lucky Number prizes. Live drawings were done on stage and awarded to the lucky folks in the audience. Marine Riders Group – Carolina Post Poker Run By: Jeff Harris, SgtMaj MRGNC On Saturday, April 27th, we held our first benefit poker run for the Marine Riders Group, Carolina Post (www.CarolinaMarineRiders.webs.com). The intent of the ride was to promote our name, increase membership, and, for the first time, organize an Associate Membership drive. The ride turned out to be a success. We did it on schedule, safely, and everyone had a good time. The weather scared a lot of would be supporters away, but for those that did show, it was a great time! Forty riders and a handful of cars showed up at Early Times Bar on Highway 158 in Stokesdale, NC by noon. We rode to Busted Nuckle and Oma’s Chocolate Factory in Walnut Cove, where we got to “shop the shop” at Busted Nuckle. They even provided their dyno machine for anyone who was interested in testing their bike. Over at Oma’s they provided us with coffee, sweets and beer. Did you ever know of a Chocolate shop that sells beer? From there we rode out to Just One More in King. We were provided a spread for lunch and, as always, a welcoming staff! Scotty B’s in Rural Hall was our fourth stop on the ride. Again, gracious and welcoming staff and support was on hand to welcome us! Once back at Early Times, we raffled off the AR15 Rim Rifle that we sold 250 tickets for at $10 each. The lucky winner was Peter Welsh of Stokesdale, NC! The $2500 raised from that raffle will go towards purchasing a headstone/marker for Doug “Fatback” Jones, a fallen member of the Marine Riders and the Patriot Guard Riders. A debt of gratitude to Rick Rohme for donating the rifle to begin with! We had about 30 other raffle items and a silent auction so many folks were able to take something home. We had a 50/50 raffle and the lucky recipient donated half back to the group. The winner of the best poker hand was Jeff Harris, and the worst hand was Darryl Roberson. We enjoyed being entertained by the band Next of Kin, and we were served incredible BBQ with all the sides and fixin’s, donated by Gene and Angie Lawson from Early Times and the

staff and regulars at Early Times! A HUGE THANK YOU to all who helped us raise the needed to funds to help the Jones family, and to help us get our name out there! We invite all to come and ride with us and thank you for your support! SEMPER FI A special thanks goes out to all that sponsored the event: Early Times Bar in Stokesdale: Special thanks to the following people; Gene and Angie Lawson, Dave Thomas, Melissa Greer, and Penny Siski. A large Thanks to Busted Nuckle and Oma’s Chocolate Factory in Walnut Cove, Just One More in King, and Scotty B’s in Rural Hall. Thanks to all who supported us with donations: Kernersville: Doss’ Old Fashioned Ice Cream and Grill, East Coast Wings, JP Looney’s, Panera Bread, C&H Cafeteria, Cold Stone Creamery, and Andy’s Shell Rapid Lube. In Greensboro: Applebee’s, and Triad Engraving & Printing. In Oakridge: Rio Grande, Elizabeth’s Pizza, and Hot Rocks Tanning Salon. In High Point: Panera Bread, Sherri’s All Star Haircuts, and Dickeys Bar-BQ Pit. In Walnut Cove: Busted Knuckle, and Oma’s Chocolate Factory. A Very Special Thanks to ALL the riders who showed up and made this event possible!

Vintage Nitro Harleys At zMAX Dragway Story and photo by Alan Dockery Fans at the National Hot Rod Association race at zMAX Dragway in Concord, NC, saw lots of vendors and exhibits during the weekend of April 19-21. But my favorite was the vintage nitro-fuel motorcycles displayed by Frank Spittle. I think all these bikes were raced by Carolina teams. “I was pleased with the turnout of drag bikes and fans who stopped by to talk about them,” Frank said. “Our display was next to the staging lanes so lots of the NHRA drivers looked at them. We had some bikes that most people hadn’t seen in probably 30 years. It’s been that long since most of these bikes were built. The Freight Train has been in mothballs for 6 years.” Bikes on display included some local racers and famous fuel bikes that were campaigned across the country. The rolling chassis of Danny Johnson’s Goliath was the first to get my attention. Danny built this bike in 1974 with two 107-inch Sportster engines and a two-speed transmission. It’s significant because it was the first twin-engine Harley that handled well and got down the track. Mark Harris had his old Sportster there and showed it still runs when they fired it up Saturday afternoon to put a little nitro in the air. Mike Cooper’s sweet old high-gear carbureted bike looks like it would still be funny to ride. Ray Price’s Funny Bike still makes fans smile. This is the most famous of the funny bikes from the late 1970’s. It last raced in 1984, but has been displayed several times in the past couple years. Ray was at the track Sunday and fired up the old funny bike. Pete Hill was there with the last Knucklehead he built in the 1980’s. I sure miss seeing and hearing that machine run. For a while Saturday afternoon, Jesse James hungout at the display

talking to Pete and fans. The bike that drew the most attention was Frank’s Freight Train. The famous Elmer Trett built the twin-engine machine in 1979. The frame was built by John Dixon and Pete Hill did the metal fabrication. Elmer rode it for a couple years. In 1983 Frank bought the bike, but wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. He talked to Harley-Davidson of Charlotte owner Dale Swearingen and shop foreman Jimmy “T-Bird” Yelton about sponsorship and soon they had the Freight Train back on the dragstrip. Frank raced the bike until he crashed at Piedmont Dragway in the third year. Frank is working on a deal for a major display of old nitrofuel bikes next year in Michigan. World Class Powersports Annual Open House By: Buzz June 11th, World Class Powersports rolled out the red carpet for their Annual Open House. World Class Powersports is the Triad’s premier Victory Motorcycles Dealership. The show room is stocked with the newest Victory Motorcycles, apparel, and accessories, and on this day it was also stocked with a spread of hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, cookies, and drinks for anyone who stopped by. While you were there you had the chance to “Crack The Code” and win any Victory Motorcycle on the showroom floor. All you had to do is get the 6 number combination to the vault correct. I gave it my best guess, but came up with the wrong combination! It would have been sweet to ride away on a new Victory High Ball like the one I have had my eyes on since my test ride article (Issue #167, June 2012, pg 42). Victory demo rides were available all day to anyone who wanted to test these machines out! Every time a group ride came back in, the riders were all smiles. Q104.1 even came by and set up their rig and gave out some concert tickets! World Class is also the area dealer for Polaris ATV’s and they had an amusing “ATV game” set up in the parking lot. Skill, balance, and patience were require to navigate the course on a Polaris Predator 50 and knock tennis balls off of cones into the buckets with a pool noodle. It was amusing to watch!

If you are in the market for a new motorcycle or are curious to see how the Victory Motorcycles handle, stop by and check out World Class Powersports at 2924 N. Main Street in High Point, NC or online at www.WorldClassPowersports.com. They are a full service Victory/Polaris dealership and service all makes and models! Their customer service is top notch and at a $75 labor rate, they are definitely worth checking out. When you stop by, make sure you tell them The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine sent ya.

Ray Price Akea Express Finishes Second In Virginia

By: Sarah Hager Virginia Motorsports Park in Petersburg, VA hosted a weekend of National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) races April 1213, ranging from door cars and Top Alcohol dragsters to funny cars and Top Fuel Harleys. Ray Price Akea Drag Racing Team rider Tommy Grimes qualified in the number one spot on Friday, then finished second round eliminations, two hundredths of a second behind eventual winner Douglas Horne. Morning rain delayed the Friday races, but the Motorsports

Park crew worked hard to dry the track as quickly as possible. The quick changes in temperature and humidity presented challenges to the race teams, needing to calibrate everything in accordance to those readings. The Ray Price team was able to master it. Grimes made his first pass of the day at 214.72 MPH, completing the quarter mile track in 6.353 seconds, placing him in the number one qualifier spot. The second run took place after dark, again requiring a different range of adjustments for Grimes to perform at his best. He finished on top with an ET of 6.266 seconds at 221.27 MPH for number one qualifier. On Saturday, Grimes won the first round with a time of 6.282 seconds at 220.3 MPH. Grimes went up against Horne in the semi-finals and ran 6.268 seconds at 222.77 MPH, and Horne ran a 6.276 at 215.03 MPH, however Grimes had a .080 reaction time and Horne had a .018 reaction time, therefore getting to the finish line first. “I’m really proud of the team. The bike ran very consistent throughout the race,” Ray Price said. “If we can keep the bike running the way it has been and fine-tune Tommy’s reaction time, we should have one of our best seasons.”

American Biker Spring Bash 2013

Biker Owned & Operated

4077 Soco Rd. Maggie Valley, NC

877-381-8919

Motorcycle Friendly Lodging In The Beautiful Smoky Mountains

By: Old Spook The American Biker Spring Bash was held on May 3rd and th 4 . This event is unique in the low country in that American Biker has an open invitation to all local merchants involved in the motorcycle community to participate in the event whether they are competitors or not. Rich Worley, owner of American Biker, offered this insight: “We all have to live in this economic environment. If we show respect for one another, our industry will survive and grow.” Despite the rain, and we have been seeing a lot of that in the low country, the turnout was good and the band was kickin. I was surprised to see a number of local MC’s with booths. It seems that over the last 4 years that the event has become more and more popular and is drawing from other than the local Charleston area. It also seems that Victory has made quite a dent in the market in no small part due to American Biker’s presence. The only other American bike on the playing field, Victory has shown their pride in country and heavily supports our military with $$ discounts, not just words. Stop by American Biker at 679 Treeland Drive in Ladson, SC and look around or call 843-641-0258 for more information. You can also check out American Biker at: www.AmericanBiker.biz. Be sure to tell them that you read about the American Biker Spring Bash in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and that Old Spook sent you.

29th Annual Mobile Meals Poker Run

By: Kidd The 29th Annual Mobile Meals Poker Run in memory of Tommy and Karen Murph on May 4th started out on an overcast and chilly morning, and we knew it was only gonna get worse. But the resolve of the fellows down at The Shop in Spartanburg, SC (TheShopShots.com) to support this worthy cause was not to be denied. A Mrs. Jayne McQueen started The Mobile Meal Service For Spartanburg County back in 1977 and she and some 150+ volunteers have been recognized by President Ronald Reagan

and Senator Jim DeMint for her outstanding services for her community. 44 bikes left Mobile Meals and made stops at C & C Thunder in Cowpens, Chesnee Classic Cycles in Chesnee, and Rainbow Corner in Spartanburg. The run ended at Lake Bowen Country Club, where everyone shook off the cold with 130# Freddie’s world famous hash and the music of Tight As Can Be. The rain held off until around 4pm and that was a good thing. Best Hand ($400) was won by Barbara Wilkie. Eva Callahan was runner up ($200) and Pop-Pop took home $100 for worst hand. 29 years ago when Willie and the guys down at The Shop started the run it was a drag race for all comers, but as the years rolled on the price for a day at the dragstrip got too expensive for a non-profit organization. So now, with the help of a few fine establishments and the generosity of the biking community, we help with the annual 2 million dollars it takes to help approximately 2,000 both long and short time recipients. So, Mrs. McQueen has her hands full and can use any donations she can get and you can send those to: Mobile Meal Service For Spartanburg County, 419 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29304

Grand Opening At Lucky’s Saloon

By: Scott Wicker Lucky’s moved in to the location formerly known as The Other Place on Friday, March 1st and hit the ground running. They moved from their smaller location on Maple Ave in Burlington after several successful years there. Owners Barry Hicks and Chuck Gates promised to return their new location on Industry Drive to one of the top biker spots in Alamance County. Now Lucky’s Saloon, the parking lot has been loaded with motorcycles every time we have been by blessed with beautiful weather. When we have gone by and the weather hasn’t been as good, the parking lot has been full with cars and trucks. The bar staff has been great and the girls greet you with a smiling face and a cold beverage every time you walk in. They have already hosted this year’s Miles for Mutts Ride to a standing room only crowd! The event was held outside folks, no joke! The atmosphere is enjoyable and they don’t allow the riff raff coming in and disturbing the peace. Barry and Chuck will not put up with it. They have several bands scheduled to play on Saturday afternoons and have plans for several benefits to take place there also. Lucky’s Saloon held their Grand Opening on Saturday, May 4th. Wet weather slowed the start but sunshine prevailed in the afternoon and the folks rolled in to hear several local bands perform. Chartreuse Microbus, Last Shot Down, Deja Blue, and Dixie Revival played through the evening hours and into the night keeping the crowd in party mode. We would like to thank Barry, Chuck, and all the staff at Lucky’s Saloon for their hospitality and a successful Grand Opening. Stay tuned! Many Great events are coming to Lucky’s Saloon in the near future. If you have not visited Lucky’s Saloon, they are located at 1453 Industry Drive in Burlington, NC. To get there take I-85/40 to Exit 145 and go south on NC 49 and bear right at the fork onto Anthony Road. Take a right on Industry and Lucky’s is on the right. Check ‘em out and I guarantee you will like the place and the staff. Remember! Ride Safe!

5th Annual Combat Veterans Ride

By: Scott Wicker On Saturday, May 4th, Crossroads Harley-Davidson in Wilkesboro hosted the 5th Annual Combat Veterans Ride. Combat Vets NC Chapter 15-5 hosted the ride. They are an association of Combat Veterans from all branches of the United States Armed Forces who ride motorcycles as a hobby. Their mission is to support and defend those who have defended our country and our freedoms. Their focus is to help veteran care facilities provide a warm meal, clothing, shelter, and guidance or simply to say “Thank You” or “Welcome Home.” The weather the morning of May 4th was less than desirable. Temperatures in the 50’s and rain would normally scare away most riders. Registration started at 10 am. Riders began to come in spite of the cooler temperatures and rain. The band Frank and Stan played throughout registration and never stopped despite the rain and cool weather. Several guests spoke and made special presentations. The ride began at 1 o’clock sharp. Over 620 motorcycles participated on the 53-mile ride that only made 3 turns. No stops for traffic lights meant never having to put your feet down throughout the ride. Eight agencies escorted the entire ride to provide safety. The ride ended at River City Bar and Grill near Lake Norman. Once there, bands Preacher Stone, The Josh Fields Band, and Southern Style entertained the crowd. There were several special presentations including a 21-gun salute and Korean War Combat Veteran, Pete Melitis gave a very emotional account

45

of The Chosin Reservoir Campaign, a battle he was involved in. He reported that 30,000 UN Troops held off 67,000 Chinese Troops for over 17 days. It has been called the most decisive battle of the Korean War. The one day event raised over $35,000 for the Combat Veterans. The Chapter hopes to be able to provide a very unique Track Wheel Chair to a needy Veteran here in North Carolina. The cost of this special wheel chair is over $15,000. We would like to thank everyone at Crossroads Harley-Davidson for hosting such a huge and successful event. Thanks also to River City Bar and Grill for all you provided and contributed as well. Thanks You to Combat Vets NC Chapter 15-5 for all you have done for our combat veterans raising over $122,000 in the last 5 years. Truly, VETS HELPING VETS! Ride Safe!

Down Home Harley-Davidson Open House & The 3rd Annual Kids Path Of Hospice Of Alamance/Caswell Counties Bike Show

By: Scott Wicker On Saturday, April 27th, Down Home Harley-Davidson held their Annual Open House and it was the hit of the weekend in the Burlington, NC area. All departments in the store were jumping. The Motorclothes® department had all their new accessories for the spring riding season and the Motorparts® counter guys stayed busy answering questions and helping customers with new accessories. Motorcycle sales are up and with the new models and the line of 110th Anniversary Harleys available, sales can only get better. Outside, folks were being entertained by McKenzie’s Mill and Pegram Prevatte Insurance of Burlington had great food available as well. The main attraction of the day was the fact that the 3rd Annual Kids Path of Hospice of Alamance/ Caswell Counties Bike Show was taking place at the dealership as well. Over 80 motorcycles registered in more than 20 categories. The show was held in memory of Gene Roney. Gene was an active member of the Burlington H.O.G. Chapter and a salesman at Dick Shirley Chevrolet in Burlington. The trophies given for the show were an elaborate, hand made, and powdered coated metal trophy modeled after Gene’s smiling face. 50/50 tickets were sold along with door prize tickets. The door prizes were too many to mention but great items were donated for the benefit. Several very unique items were auctioned off including a set of corn hole boards with the face of the boards covered with an oversized version of the shows flyer. Two large replicas of the show trophies were auction off. The highlight of the day had to have been when Charles and Keith Jones had the winning bid and then presented the large trophy replica to Laura Roney, Gene’s wife. Let me tell y’all, there was not a dry eye in the house. In all, over $15,000 and counting was raised for Kids Path of Hospice. The winners and top finishers from the bike show are as follows. The 4th Annual Chuck Shearer Run

By: Everette “EZ” Short Despite the radio and TV sirens sounding the alarm of approaching tornadoes on the morning of Saturday, April 27th, a group of more than 70 riders gathered under the cotton clouded skies at Longbeards in Carolina Forrest to kick off The 4th Annual Chuck Shearer Memorial Bike Run. By the time the kickstands went up, it was all sunshine and smiles, with bikes rolling south to Spencer’s Sports Pub in the Old Time Pottery strip mall. After a quick crossfire of cards, some liquid hydration, and a short set of shots, the chaos of herding the straggling cats on motorcycles was quickly orchestrated in the parking lot. Then, it was a quick hop up to The Boathouse Bar & Grill. There was some kind of corn holing shenanigans, shot calling, and card tossing all being applied against a gorgeous backdrop of the Intracoastal Waterway in the Fantasy Harbor. It was apparently such a long ride that several veteran riders had to sit on the side of the waterway to catch a catnap in those damp plastic lawn chairs. I think some even walked across the grass only to light up a cigarette, take off their boots and collapse in the yard. Soon enough, it was time to slide back into the saddles and head to the greater northern lands of Little River, where Jay’s was taken over for fiendish tom foolery exercises, some spastic pool shots, and a quick turn of the card, before heading to the wide open spaces of Harley’s Roadhouse for a BBQ’n good time of music, raffling, and a chance to Oink at Wilbur the Magical Hog. The weather held throughout the day, giving up sunshine, fun, and burned ear balls, as well as a springtime farmer tan for most of the crew. At the end of the day, the ride earned over $2,500 for The Chuck Shearer Leukemia Foundation; a non-profit organization that helps to give children with Leukemia and their families a fighting chance at taking back their lives. The Chuck Shearer ride was originated to celebrate Chuck’s

life and to repay those who helped him through his illness. Chuck believed that it was better to “Pay It Forward” and though he has physically left us, his intention is moving forward every year in ways that I am sure he would’ve been proud of. Dayna, his children, and grandchildren were present as a testament to a living legacy that gives back so much more than it receives. It was great to see everyone out riding, and let me tell you that this ride was attended by some of the most unknown celebrities of the Strand. You won’t see these heroes on any reality show, but the show they put on makes it worth being in the cast. When you have a ride that goes that far, with over 70 adult participants, plus a few children and everyone comes away without a scratch or even a hick-up, you gotta say, “Good Job Everybody!” If you missed the ride, but would like to find out how you can help, contact them through www.ChuckShearerLF.org or follow them on Facebook and keep on Paying It Forward!

9th Annual CBA/ABATE of NC, Central District Spoker Run By: Charles Holcombe, AKA Uwharrie Charlie On April 13th, 2013 at least eight chapters of the CBA/ ABATE of NC were meeting at their starting point to participate in the Central District’s 9th Annual “Spoker Run”. This is a unique sort-of poker run that has a different starting place in many different counties here in Central North Carolina. The riders eventually merge together at various poker stops to reach a final destination determined by the host chapter. The goal is a ton of fun and brotherhood/sisterhood while raising funds for the central district to operate for the remainder of the year. The host chapter is responsible for obtaining the entertainment, food, and facilities for the event while the district supplies the plaques for the winners of poker hands, one winner per chapter. A 50/50 drawing is usually underway somewhere in the crowd while a drawing for the $500 grand prize is the one to watch. The Uwharrie Chapter CBA located in Albemarle, NC hosted this 9th annual run for their first time. There was a lot of planning during the 9-month long period that pretty much just needed reconfirmations periodically thanks to the chapter’s home meeting place, Corner Pocket Sports Bar & Billiards on Highway 52 N. in Albemarle. It’s a huge relief to find receptive owners/managers of establishments that support the motorcycling community. Corner Pocket is one of them. They provided the BBQ, baked beans, potato salad, bread, labor, and staff for the meal cooked by Dean Patterson and also set up and operated the sound system and tunes. Shaggy was our emcee for the day. Chapters involved in the ride include Chatham, Cabarrus/ Rowan, Charlotte, Alamance, Randolph, Davidson, Triad, and Uwharrie. There were approximately 83 bikes in this ride and approximately 125 people. The Uwharrie route consisted of Corner Pocket, the Rockwell Fire Department to help support the Lee Ingram Benefit sponsored by Twin Peaks Customs of Salisbury, Tamarac Marina, where several chapters had already arrived, and Tank-N-Tummy at Highways 8 & 49 where the rest of the chapters had converged. With time running short to reach the final destination, Charles Holcombe, President of the Uwharrie Chapter led the parade of motorcycles South onto Highway 49 heading across Badin Lake towards Richfield. There were Sheriff’s Deputies arranged by Sgt. Billy Marshall of the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office in place to help maneuver the long line of bikes safely through the busy intersection at Highways 49 & 52. The deputies continued along the final stretch of the route to ensure an unobstructed path to Corner Pocket Sports Bar & Billiards. (Thanks guys, it means a lot to us!) As the stream of bikes seemed to pour into Corner Pocket in slow motion, the parking lot reached near capacity with motorcycles! On hand to serve the hungry crowd was Cassie Boggess and Kelly Davenport, who worked their tails off during the event,

Charlie Davenport running the raffle booth, and Doris Daniels working the 50/50 drawing while Daniel Hammonds helped keep an eye out for whatever the crowd needed. Winners of the “Best Hand” plaques were: Lisa Blum, Mike Nesbit, Ali, Sonny, Dan Devoid, Linda Ewing, Rob McCarter, and JP Goodwin. Winner of the “Most Supportive Chapter” was Uwharrie with 31 members representing at this event. Winner of the $500 Grand Prize was Judy Puryear, who donated $260 back to the district. The 50/50 winner was Terry Bradshaw for $107. Thanks to everyone and every chapter that came out for the party! Thanks to all of the Uwharrie Chapter members who helped support this event. It just seems to get better every year! This ride is open to all riders, regardless of membership or bike brand, so if you missed this one, mark your calendars for Saturday April 12th, 2014. It will be hosted by the Cabarrus/ Rowan Chapter CBA. Watch for details in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine or online at FullThrottleMagazine.com. See ya at the party!

By: Matt King matt.king@harley-davidson.com All Riders Invited to Join H.O.G. in Celebrating 110 Years of Great Riding Let’s ride. The Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) invites Harley-Davidson motorcycle riders from around the world to join its members in celebrating the 110th Anniversary of Harley-Davidson Motor Company and the 30th Anniversary of H.O.G. as they enjoy the freedom of the open road during the 2013 Harley-Davidson World Ride on June 23-24. “Harley-Davidson is celebrating two big anniversaries this year, and the World Ride is a great way for riders around the world to celebrate them with us,” said Harley Owners Group Director, Ken Knuteson. “For these two days in June, our members will join together to celebrate 110 years of great riding and share the special bond that unites all Harley riders.” In 2012, riders from 66 countries participated in the World Ride and collectively logged more than 7,800,000 miles. For 2013, H.O.G.’s goal is to raise the mileage total to more than 10 million miles. Whether it’s a ride across town or crosscountry, or simply around the block to work, every mile counts and can be recorded by logging into Harley-Davidson’s online mileage accumulator at h-d.com/worldride, where a rolling odometer will record the collective distance traveled by all participants in the World Ride. At the completion of the ride, a commemorative certificate of participation can be printed to display each rider’s mileage total for the day and riders are invited to share their riding stories online through Harley-Davidson’s My Epic Ride experience at h-d.com/110epicride. For more information about the Harley Owners Group visit HOG.com.

Welcome Home Bill Guraleczka

By: Renea Clutts On April 20, 2013 Bill Guraleczka returned home to his wife and four children after being deployed for nearly a year. Bill is a USNR Chief Petty Officer for Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 14, The Seabees. He has served in the Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Bill was welcomed home by family, friends, The Patriot Guard Riders, and Sandy Ridge Girl Scout Troop #2072. Since Bill is a member of the The Patriot Guard Riders it was

really difficult to keep his welcome home mission a “surprise”. PGR Ride Captain Todd Mitchell had to set up a mission under the alias “CPT Morgan P. Stock Welcome Home”. This really added some extra humor and laughs once he arrived home and realized what was going on. There were tears, laughter, and great fellowship during his welcome home. It was a GREAT sight to see Bill and his family reunited, knowing that he is safe and can be “physically” active in their daily lives again. Even though social media has helped the deployed to stay “visually” active in the daily routine of their family, nothing beats being able to reach out and hug the ones you love. God Bless all of our deployed soldiers AND their families. If you get a chance, tell a Veteran “Thank You”. In America EVERY day should be Veteran’s Day.

Blue Ridge H-D Hosts Schmoozapalooza

That’s Conrad the Crawdad, local Hickory baseball team mascot, checking out a new Harley with BRHD sales guy Ghostrider. Story and photo by Alan Dockery Schmoozapalooza was a unique event hosted by Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson in Hickory, NC, the afternoon of May 9. Organized by the Catawba County Chamber of Commerce, it was an after-hours business expo with dozens of local businesses on display. The covered parking around the dealership made a great place for Schmoozapalooza with vendors showing off products and services from the simple and common to a local company building airplanes. Food and beer samples meant you could snack while talking to the vendors. The band Baby Black played in front of the dealership and the expo was on Blue Ridge H-D’s bike night so the businesses got good exposure to local Bikers. “Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson was thrilled to host this event,” said Marty Hall, Blue Ridge H-D Marketing Coordinator, “It was a fantastic opportunity for us to introduce our dealership and the Harley-Davidson brand to the local business community. The chamber did a top notch job on recruiting vendors and promoting the event and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome of Schmoozapalooza.”

South Carolina Motorcycle Awareness Rally

By: Chad Fuller, McGrath & Danielson www.motorcyclelawgroup.com When most of us think about riding in South Carolina during the month of May we envision sunny 80º days. It is the allure of riding in such conditions that places more motorcycles on the roads during the spring. Unfortunately, Mother Nature missed the memo and let winter creep into the month of May this year. ABATE of South Carolina did not forget to let the people of South Carolina know that they need to be more aware of motorcyclists. To do so, ABATE held it’s annual May Awareness Rally on Sunday, May 5th in Columbia. While the weather was less than ideal, numerous ABATE members from all corners of South Carolina battled the elements to converge on the State House grounds. The ride started on North Main Street at The Palace. Riders starting arriving around 10 am and enjoyed food, drink, and the company of other riders before the ride departed at noon. The riders then enjoyed a seven-mile ride that was escorted by four members of the City of Columbia Police Department. The riding conditions were better suited for a jet ski rather than a motorcycle, but we all arrived at the State House safely. As over 100 people lined the top of the State House steps, they listened to Governor Nikki Haley’s proclamation recognizing the month of May as Motorcycle Awareness Month in the sate of South Carolina. Many other speakers addressed the assembled crowd before the event ended and everyone headed for drier conditions. All things considered, the rally was successful and it was really inspiring to see so many riders from across the state brave the poor weather to send a message to the motorists of South Carolina. I hope to see the sun and YOU at next year’s May Awareness Rally.

16th Annual Freedom Memorial Wall Dedication

By: Brother Bill Dotson On the morning of Sunday, May 5th, it was overcast and unseasonably cool, but the 16th Annual Freedom Memorial Wall Dedication at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson went on as scheduled. The Freedom Memorial Wall was erected in 1998. Mark Leonard, the Memorial Wall Director said, “The wall was erected as a way to remember and celebrate the lives of fellow riders, friends, and family”. He said, “When I see the names on the wall it doesn’t remind me of their death, it reminds me of their life and how they lived. You remember all the good times.” 27 names we were originally placed on the wall the first year. Since then it has grown to 269 names in 2013. Many think only those that were motorcycle riders are dedicated on the wall. Names that have been added to the wall over the years are in many cases past friends and family members of those that ride. It’s a wonderful tribute and a great way to remember loved ones whether they were a rider or not. It’s a tradition each year that the names of those remembered and the year they were dedicated to the wall are read aloud. The Dedication takes place each year on the first Sunday in May. There is gospel music, a worship service, the Memorial Ride, and, of course, lunch consisting of Bar-B-Que. All proceed from the day go to the perpetual upkeep of the Memorial Wall. Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines was on hand to proclaim the day Freedom Memorial Wall Day. Ride pins and t-shirts are made available for purchase each year to

commemorate the event. This year attendees noticed a new addition to the Memorial Wall. A gazebo was constructed in time for this year’s event compliments of the Winston-Salem H.O.G. Chapter 2619, local Goldwing Chapters, and Steve Cole Construction. If you have a friend or family member you would like to add to the Freedom Memorial Wall next year or if you would like to receive information you can contact Smokin’ HarleyDavidson at 336-722-3106.

Spokes & Jokes

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! At our house we call it “pickin” and it is symbolic of your acceptance in the group. We live in the United States Of The Offended, so get over it!!

Dorothy and Edna, two “senior” widows, are talking. Dorothy: “That nice George Johnson asked me out for a date. I know you went out with him last week, and I wanted to talk with you about him before I give him my answer.” Edna: “Well, I’ll tell you. He shows up at my apartment punctually at 7 pm, dressed like such a gentleman in a fine suit, and he brings me such beautiful flowers! Then he takes me downstairs. And what’s there; a limousine, uniformed chauffeur and all. Then he takes me out for dinner, a marvelous dinner, lobster, champagne, dessert, and after-dinner drinks. Then we go see a show. Let me tell you Dorothy, I enjoyed it so much I could have just died from pleasure! So then we are coming back to my apartment and he turns into an ANIMAL. Completely crazy, he tears off my expensive new dress and has his way with me three times!” Dorothy: “Goodness gracious! So you are telling me I shouldn’t go?” Edna: “No, no, no. I’m just saying, wear an old dress.”

You move closer. Somehow the man looks familiar. You suddenly realize who it is. It’s Barrack Obama! At the same time you notice that the raging waters are about to take him under forever. YOU HAVE TWO OPTIONS: You can save the life of Barrack Obama or you can shoot a dramatic Pulitzer Prize winning photo, documenting the death of one of the world’s most powerful socialist Muslim men hell bent on the destruction of America. THE QUESTION: Here’s the question, and please give an honest answer. “Would you select high contrast color film, or would you go with the classic simplicity of black and white?”

parked his pickup in front of Sarah’s house and left it there … all night. Three sisters, ages 92, 94, and 96, live in a house together. One night the 96-yearold draws a bath. She puts her foot in and pauses. She yells to the other sisters, “Was I getting in or out of the bath?” The 94-year-old yells back, “I don’t know. I’ll come up and see.” She starts up the stairs and pauses, “Was I going up the stairs or down?” The 92-year-old is sitting at the kitchen table having tea listening to her sisters, she shakes her head and says, “I sure hope I never get that forgetful, knock on wood.” She then yells, “I’ll come up and help both of you as soon as I see who’s at the door.”

A blonde man goes to the vet with his goldfish. “I think it’s got epilepsy,” he tells the vet. The vet takes a look and says, “It seems calm enough to me.” The blonde man says, “Just Wait, I haven’t taken it out of the bowl yet.”

This test only has one question, but it’s a very important one. By giving an honest answer, you will discover where you stand morally. The test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation in which you will have to make a decision. Remember that your answer needs to be honest, yet spontaneous. THE SITUATION: You are in Florida, Miami to be specific. There is chaos all around you caused by a hurricane with severe flooding. This is a flood of biblical proportions. You are a photojournalist working for a major newspaper, and you’re caught in the middle of this epic disaster. The situation is nearly hopeless. You’re trying to shoot career-making photos. There are houses and people swirling around you, some disappearing under the water. Nature is unleashing all of its destructive fury. THE TEST: Suddenly you see a black man in the water. He is fighting for his life, trying not to be taken down with the debris.

Went out last night and got really wasted. I woke up in the middle of the night next to some fat chick that was snoring and farting, so I knew I made it home OK!

A woman and a baby were in the doctor’s examining room, waiting for the doctor to come in for the baby’s first exam. The doctor arrived, and examined the baby, checked his weight, and being a little concerned, asked if the baby was breast-fed or bottle-fed. “Breast-fed,” she replied. “Well, strip down to your waist,” the doctor ordered. She did. He pinched her nipples, pressed, kneaded, and rubbed both breasts for a while in a very professional and detailed examination. Motioning to her to get dressed, the doctor said, “No wonder this baby is underweight. You don’t have any milk.” “I know,” she said, “I’m his Grandma, But I’m glad I came.” Sarah, the church gossip and self-appointed arbiter of the congregation’s morals, kept sticking her nose into other people’s business. Several members were unappreciative of her activities, but feared her enough to maintain their silence. She made a mistake, however, when she accused George, a new member, of being an alcoholic after she saw his pickup truck parked in front of the town’s only bar one afternoon. She commented to George and others that everyone seeing it there would know what he was doing. George, a man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just walked away. He didn’t explain, defend or deny; he said nothing. Later that evening, George quietly

A Minneapolis couple decided to go to Florida to thaw out during a particularly icy winter. They planned to stay at the same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 20 years earlier. Because of hectic schedules, it was difficult to coordinate their travel schedules. So, the husband left Minnesota and flew to Florida on Thursday, with his wife flying down the following day. The husband checked into the hotel. There was a computer in his room, so he decided to send an email to his wife. However, he accidentally left out one letter in her email address, and without realizing his error, sent the e-mail.
Meanwhile, somewhere in Houston, a widow had just returned home from her husband’s funeral. He was a minister who was called home to glory following a heart attack. The widow decided to check her e-mail expecting messages from relatives and friends. After reading the first message, she screamed and fainted. The widow’s son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor, and saw the computer screen which read: To: My Loving Wife, Subject: I’ve Arrived, Date: July 19, 2010. I know you’re surprised to hear from me. They have computers here now and you are allowed to send emails to your loved ones. I’ve just arrived and have been checked in. I’ve seen that everything has been prepared for your arrival tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing you then! Hope your journey is as uneventful as mine was. PS: Sure is freaking hot down here!

LIVE MUSIC SATURDAY NIGHT

By: Gypsy-Rose Photos By: Biker Bob April 27th was a great day to spend with friends, eating and listening to music. The best part of this it was all free thanks to Jeff Bruce owner of D & Q and his crew. This was Jeff’s 9th year doing a customer appreciation day and around 350 bikers turned out to enjoy all Jeff had to offer. There was free food starting with a pig cooked by Jeff’s brother Eggy who knows how to do a pig. Eggy had his own BBQ Sauce that he was selling and man is it good. If you want to try his original as well as his sweet BBQ Sauce you can put in a order at Eggy’s LLC, P O Box 987, Youngsville NC 27596, he sells it for about $4.50. You can also pick up some of Eggy’s sauce at D & Q. There was also boiled potatoes, cole slaw, baked beans, rolls, and drinks. Around 2pm Southern Grace rocked the afternoon with free music. Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) was there doing door prizes and the 50/50 drawing. The 50/50 was won by Don Russ the VP of BBQ Brothers and he donated it all back to BACA. Even after a ride that started out at Ray Price that morning the Seven Sabres Brotherhood and the BBQ Brothers still managed to come by and spend some down time. We all would like to say thank you to Jeff and his crew for all they do for their customers and for showing how much he appreciates his customers throughout the year.

By: Steve Mallard Sandhill Harley-Davidson in Pinehurst, NC held their Open House on April 20th. The sun was shining and a cool breeze was blowing its warmer more bikes are showing up. During the day 200+ bikes and a number of cars visited the dealership. They had free steak burgers and beef hot dogs for as long as they lasted and door prizes were awarding were awarded every 30 minutes from 10 am to 3 pm. John McKenzie and Darrall Melton were showing new and used Harley’s to the folks that ventured inside. You know a perusal of the MotorClothes department would always be a part of the tour of Sandhill Cycles. Jimmy Melton, owner of Sandhill Cycles, a dual dealership selling Harley-Davidson and Yamaha motorcycles said, “They are a small family owned dealership.” Sherrill Honeycutt runs the Yamaha side. The Harley crew is John McKenzie and Darrall Melton and their factory trained technicians are able to meet all your Harley’s needs including Dyno tunning. Sandhill Cycles has been open in Moore County since 1972 and has been a Harley-Davidson dealer since 1978. They invite you to visit them at 7540 US Highway 15-501 in Pinehurst, NC. Thunder In The Smokies - Spring 2013

By: WildThing After all the years of attending the Thunder in the Smokies semi-annual rallies I’m having to date them so I don’t get confused. The thing I can always count on is that Chris and Lori have done their utmost in the off-season to plan and secure enjoyable musical talent and this spring was no exception. The line-up on their schedule looked terrific. When we pulled in to the rally site Friday evening, the car lot was filling up and the motorcycles were pouring through the gates. There were 40 vendors set up around the perimeter and the beer was ice cold. Rafe Hollister was on stage entertaining the crowd with their unique style of ‘mountain rock’. The festival grounds in Maggie Valley is large enough that the music can be a background while you visit with friends or you can ride up and park at the stage and take it in full blast. At 7:30 Ali Randolph and the Outta Luck Band, another western Carolina band, belted out their brand of country rock. The headliner for the evening was The Alabama Blues Brothers. I love these guys! They say they are on their farewell tour this year, and I surely enjoy their act. It is as if you are right on the movie set with Jake & Elwood and their cohorts. If you were not up too late around the fire pit and could get up and be at the rally grounds by 10 am you could go on the tour ride up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Not so for Mark and I, as we have breakfast, ride over to Wheels Through Time to see what is going on, then make it to the rally grounds in time for the bike show. This year about 40 bikes were lined up for this Peoples’ Choice show. The owners are asked to put their helmets upside down at the front wheel and rally goers were given a ticket as they passed through the gate to place in the helmet of their favorite bike. While folks were deciding on their favorite bike, a biker wedding was taking place on the stage. After the pronouncement, the groom removed the bride’s garter and threw it out to the crowd and the bride threw her bouquet. Tradition has it that the catchers would be the next ones to marry their sweet-

heart. Congratulations and best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. David Allen. The tickets were counted at 1pm and the prize money ($500), sponsored by Lanier Law, was awarded to Dave & Kim Smith from Clinton, TN. They entered an awesome 2005 Knievel Custom with a unique skeleton paint job and skull headlight! Then Chris, the consummate emcee, gathered the folks over to the games area while his staff was setting up for the first of five games. The slow race kicked off the competition, and then the plunger and toilet paper roll routine. I will have to say in the plunger game, we viewed some real original moves! It was starting to rain off and on, and Chris made a challenging comment about fair-weather bikers, but even he had to admit a lack of participants. The customary wienie bite was last an only had one pass and a winner was declared. The $500 cash prize was sponsored by Aid to Injured Motor-

cyclists (A.I.M.). By that time the rain was pretty steady and we left for supper with every intention of returning for the music venue in the evening. It was a great line-up kicked off by a burlesque show by Satya and another Fire Performance by Torch. Rachele Lynae and Matt Stillwell rounded out the evening. It goes without saying that inclement weather will, from time to time, haunt outdoor events. This is only the second time in ten years that I didn’t return in the evening, but I am sure others did because Thunder In The Smokies is rain or shine! Chris and Lori cap off the weekend with a pancake breakfast sponsored by CMA and a church service, bands on stage, and the vendors usually stay open until the afternoon. This is one bike event that you can bring the young ones to because it is not too rowdy, but a lot of fun and has good bands. I know that Maggie Valley is hosting some other rallies this summer, but Thunder In The Smokies is the mac daddy! Don’t miss it. Watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine for their ad and mark you calendar for September 13-15 for the fall version of Thunder In The Smokies.

By: Jeff Deal Every year, on the 4th Saturday in April, the Relay For Life team of Canton, named Gary’s Warriors 4 Life, holds its poker run to raise money for The American Cancer Society. The run is in memory of Gary Stamey who passed away from pancreatic cancer. With tempetures in the 30’s, this year the number of riders was a little down from last year’s 226 bikes, but they still managed to raise $12,598. That included all of the proceeds from little five-year-old Carly’s Lemonade For A Cure stand that raised $130. The ride itself left Canton for Waynesville, Sylva, Cherokee, and Maggie Valley before returning to the Canton Armory for lunch, which was catered by Dicky King’s Barbeque. The winner of best hand and the $250 prize was Eddie McElrath with four of a kind. Doing the work at the ride was Jenny Stamey, chairperson for Relay For Life of Canton, and Randi Smith, American Cancer Society Staff partner. On May 22nd The American Cancer Society will celebrate its 100th Birthday and has helped make great strides in the fight against cancer. According to Randi, money raised today will go to help cancer patients get the help they need when they need it. That includes things like a place to stay while traveling for treatment, rides to treatments and even just someone to talk to. They want you to know if you need help or want to join the fight, call 1-800-227-2345 anytime day or night or visit cancer. org.

15th Annual Keri D. Efird Memorial Scholarship Ride

By: Charles Holcombe, aka Uwharrie Charlie Every year on the last Friday in April the largest ride in Stanly County is held. It begins before lunch at the West Stanly High School in Oakboro, NC and rides to Cox’s Harley-Davidson in Asheboro and back to the school for some great BBQ and raffle prizes galore! It’s always good to see Scott and Tracy Efird, the parents of the late Kerri D. Efird, as they are busy getting the event in order and greeting friends, old and new. This year’s event drew a big crowd of motorcycles ready to experience the ride of the year! The day had a high promise of rain in the forecast, but we were all keeping our fingers crossed. We only need a few hours to make this ride a success but the clouds are covering the entire sky and it’s just a bit chilly. Scott Efird, with Tracy near his side, calls attention to all riders and tells a brief history of the ride and what it means to him and others including the recipients of the scholarship funds raised by this event. To date (since 1999) not counting this year, Scott and Tracy have raised $59,000 for scholarships. They have my utmost admiration for the tremendous efforts they expend and the many volunteers that show up every year to help out.

“The Kerri D. Efird Memorial Scholarship was established to carry on the memory of a special person whose life was short, but in her 18 years she accomplished more than most of us will in a lifetime. Kerri did not walk across the stage at graduation with her class of 1999, but in spirit she was there when her name was called and was recognized for her academic achievements against all odds presented before her. Kerri’s life made such an impression that the KDE Memorial Scholarship was established. In the year 2000, Scott and Tracy formally incorporated and became a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Kerri relied on her faith in God, family, and friends to carry her through her worst times. You can read more about Kerri and the history of the t-shirt design at http://kerripooh. com/. The weather held out for us and the ride to Cox’s Harley-Davidson was a good one. Most of us, welcoming the sunshine, had packed our jacket and gloves away before we left Cox’s. Lane Furr owner of Pro Tire in Albemarle, NC and his wife lead the ride again and it was better than ever. I didn’t catch the names of the Albemarle PD officers involved with the escort, but big thanks guys! Thanks Deputy WD McIntire and Deputy RC Cloninger of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office who escorted the ride from the Stanly County line at Badin Lake to Cox’s in Asheboro and back nearly to the Albemarle city limits where we were picked up again by the APD. We really appreciate your efforts! After the BBQ was eaten and the raffle prizes were given away I detected a bit of a sprinkle in the air. We left just in time to get home dry! What a great day for a great cause. This is proof that bikers have really big hearts and care about others. Don’t miss the ride next April, and if you want to be a sponsor on the unique t-shirts or contribute in any way, contact Scott or Tracy Efird at 704-888-4587 or e-mail to kdescholarship@aol.com.

By: WildThing April 27th was a very nice day to get out the bikes and go for a ride. It was a little overcast, but warm enough to ride with jeans on and a jacket. A far cry from my last ride with chaps, gloves, scarf, and all! We headed out through the country toward Randleman and it was so sweet to get out and smell fresh country air and ride the gentle curves till we arrived at Riders In The Country. What a great place to have a swap meet and rally! Riders has a great big parking lot and an overflow grass lot behind that. Triad Chapter and Davidson County Chapter of CBA were on hand supporting Randolph County CBA and serving up fresh burgers, dogs, and cheesesteak sandwiches. Randolph County CBA raffled off a stainless steel gas grill and the winner was Michael Moorehead from Thomasville. There were several vendors set up on the perimeter of the parking lot showing off hand made items and a variety of parts and services. It was like old home week, as we got to visit with friends we hadn’t seen in a while, and after all, isn’t that what makes bike rallies fun? Inside Riders, lots of folks were enjoying the music of Riff Raff and later on, Red Velvet Voodoo and some were shooting a casual game of pool. And, you can always purchase the very best of adult beverages while enjoying the music. I have to applaud Randolph County CBA for putting their best foot forward and trying their best to keep alive their tradition of popular swap meets and bike shows, but it seems that competing events and inclement weather has really affected the turnout for their events. It poured down rain on the second day of their event and the bike show planned for Sunday got rained out. But on Saturday, it was a good day to be with friends and celebrate riding motorcycles. Watch The Carolinas’ Full throttle Magazine for the next Randolph County CBA Swap Meet, which will be a 1 day event on Nov 3rd at Riders In The Country and go on and meet some real bikers!

By: Gary Steelman Crossfire’s “Jesus Rocks” Rally V was held at the Crossfire United Methodist Church on Statesville Road in Wilkesboro, NC on May 11. Bikes started rolling in around 10:30 for the bike/car show. There were around 25 bikes all types made a showing. There were homemade machines, Harleys, custom bikes including trikes of all kinds. The most popular was the custom orange painted Harley. The smokey barbeque pig was plentiful and everyone ate their fill. There were snow cones and ice cream vendors to serve all. The music was provided by the Crossfire House band, and The Sound Of Faith. These guys and girls provided rocking gospel and some traditional music for the crowd. The bike games ended the day, just as the rain started pelting down. The balloon toss, slow races, and egg races provided a great show to end a wonderful day in the mountains. The American Red Cross collected blood all day long to help keep the community ready to meet the unseen need. Everyone that came out had a great time, won some prizes, and had some great food. Door prizes were plentiful, kid’s games, games for the older folks, and food for everyone could be found across the grounds. Thanks to the biker community, Crossfire, the Red Knights, CMA, and citizens for making the day a great success. See ya there next time!

The Ride For Gracie Rocks The Beach

By: Everette “EZ” Short If you ride at all, then you’ve probably gone on a charity poker run a time or two, maybe even a few hundred times. Charity rides provide everyone involved with a wonderful opportunity to support a worthy cause, while allowing for a tremendous time of revelry in a freshly bonded brotherhood that sometimes even leads to lifelong friendships. On Saturday, April 27th, the charity we were raising money for showed up in the form of a smiling six-year-old little girl named Gracie. You see, when Gracie was only 6 months old, she was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis (NF) and has continuously lived with terrible pain from tumors that develop along the nerves, both above and below her skin and there is no cure. I met with Gracie and her family at Myrtle Beach Harley Davidson Main Store just before The Ride For Gracie kicked off. Facing bad weather on the morning of Saturday, April 27th, Gracie’s family gathered early to raise banners and set up registration stations for the day’s ride. Gracie is a shy little girl with an obvious love for motorcycles and the people who ride them. Her presence alone seemed to make the sun shine brighter that day. After a group photo, the riders set off for a quick run to The

Sun Up Bar & Grill in Socastee, before heading north to meet at Longbeards in Carolina Forest for a regrouping mission. Poker cards, drinks, and laughs were all served up to a happy crowd. Next, the crew was racing off to find Oscars in North Myrtle Beach where cards were dealt, drinks were pounded, and some tasty nibble bits were put on plates for those who couldn’t wait for the last stop. Soon enough, the ride wound up at Captain Poo’s overlooking the waterway in Little River and a bevy of prizes were awarded. Finally, the long awaited free fish fry was served up, just in time for our hungry mob. One thing you can count on is bikers will hang around if there is food involved. All proceeds and cash prizes from the event, including the winning poker hands, were turned back in to help pay for some of Gracie’s medical expenses, which is how it should be. There is no cure for NF, but Gracie doesn’t seem to know that. With most charity rides, the benefactors are worthy causes, but faceless entities by nature. Meeting Gracie and seeing her at the event made it clear that there was a very real and personalized reason to ride and raise money for a tiny little warrior who is definitely putting up a heroic fight for her life. In the end, everyone that showed up was a winner, but sometimes it just takes the light in a child’s eyes to make us see how good life is. Gracie is a shining example of hope and courage. If you didn’t get a chance to join the ride, feel free to contact her on Facebook or call 843-855-2597 for more information on how you can help her to afford to keep up her fight for life! Special thanks go out to all the destinations, prize sponsors, and the spectacular service help that was on duty, as well as the organizers and participants who had a day without accident or incident. Great job everyone and especially you Gracie! What a day, what a ride and what a little doll that shared her day with us. Keep your eyes peeled for another ride coming up and The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine will keep you posted on where the next Ride For Gracie will be taking off. Rock on Gracie!

Please Ride Responsibly

By: Michael Frederick Despite the rain, over 1500 bikers showed up for Harley-Davidson of Asheville’s Season Kickoff Party and Open House on April 27th. Located only hours from Charlotte and Atlanta, right off the Blue Ridge Parkway, high in the mountains where the air is cool – the weather changes quickly and it’s hard to predict. The rain held off for the majority of the day and H.O.G. members wearing ponchos directed stragglers to park in the field. Richard Cawthorn of Fairview, NC was the lucky winner of a brand new Seventy-Two Sportster! According to Richard, “he was feeling lucky,” so he decided to drive out and check his number. Mr. Cawthorn joyfully told his family that he was the sweepstakes winner while the papers were being filed out and the rest is history! Local pig slingers at Bad Wolf BBQ were on deck slingin’ ‘que as fast as it could be done. Little did the crowd know that owner, Doug Jackson, had been up all night because the smoker at his restaurant had caught fire in the middle of the night. According to Jackson, he “didn’t know what to do, but he made a promise and he wasn’t gonna leave his people hangin’.” It wasn’t quite hell and the water wasn’t that high, but against all odds – a good time was had by all! Out back under the party porch, the Pisgah Brewing Company (which is only a few miles east of the dealership) was pouring local microbrews. Pisgah Brewing Company is one of Asheville’s best-kept secrets boasting two large stages (one indoor and one outdoor), level pavement for easy bike parking, taproom, fire pit, and brewery tours. Keeping things local is a core value in Asheville and locally made handcrafted beer is something that makes Asheville unique. In fact, there are so many great breweries that Asheville was named Beer City, USA 2012. The soggy-yet-happy beer drinkin’, pig eatin’ crowd was graced by the Corbitt Brothers Band, a Franklin, NC-based rock trio, playing hard-driving, southern rock with a wellrounded sound of bluesy rock, gritty southern country, and a classic edge to timeless tunes. These young, self-taught brothers were born and raised in Jacksonville, FL. They moved to the Nashville, TN area in 2008 to pursue their music dreams; added drummer, Brandon Buck, to their band and have been on the road full-time ever since. Make sure to check ‘em out soon because they’re goin’ places fast! It looks like there’s a new gorilla in the jungle and this year is going to bigger and better than ever at Harley-Davidson of Asheville. The weather isn’t the only thing that changes quickly in Asheville. New events are popping up like wildfire. “Signing up for our e-newsletter and checking our events calendar online is the best way to stay up-to-date,” said Jeff Lewis, General Manager. For Harley-Davidson of Asheville, it’s not about what’s in the rear view; it’s about what’s on the horizon.

By: Scott Wicker On Saturday, April 27th, Full Throttle Bar hosted its now famous Rally - N - Randleman. Jeff Isom and his staff always do it up right. There are always lots of vendors displaying their wares and the bikini bike wash has always been a big hit at all the rallies they have held. The band Rockin’ Horse hit the stage a little after noon followed by the Carolina Cowboys, and Thrillbillies playing throughout the evening hours and into the night. Good old NC BBQ was served up by Jeff and his family and you didn’t have to go far inside or outside to find your favorite cold beverage. The smell of burning rubber filled the air and smoke fogged up the parking lot with the burn out contest. There were lots of giveaways and a 50/50 drawing and everyone braved bad weather to participate in the bike show. A good turn out of bikes meant hard decisions for the judges. When all was said and done, there were big surprises and lots of happy faces. The top finishers from the bike show are as follows: ANTIQUE: 1st Place - Dozier Cox, 2nd Place Chris Owens. SPORT: 1st Place - Ada Grant, 2nd Place - Leah Hughes. CUSTOM: 1st Place - Tim Harris, 2nd Place - Mark Harrillson. SOFTAIL: 1st Place - Shane Bryant, 2nd Place Jack Reeves. TOURING: 1st Place – David Howard, 2nd Place - Phil Owens. BEST IN SHOW: Sam Miller. Congratulations to the winners and top finishers in the bike show. We would like to Thank Jeff Isom, his family, and his staff for their hospitality. Go by 1006 South Main Street in Randleman, NC and see them soon! Ride Safe!

NHRA Four-Wide Nationals At zMAX EW G Come SEE Us... G N R IN

ID ON POK EAT R S SEA NU! STOER RUN ME P!

!" ## $ % &' (

Story and photo by Alan Dockery If you would enjoy feeling 32,000 horsepower rattling your chest, you should have been at zMAX Dragway in Concord, NC, the third weekend of April. That’s when the National Hot Rod Association came to town for the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series 4th Annual Dollar General Four-Wide Nationals fueled by Full Throttle. This is the only race on the NHRA circuit where they run four lanes instead of two. So you could see Pro Stock motorcycles and cars, plus Top Fuelers and Funny Cars run four at a time. And it’s the energy drink, not Full Throttle Magazine that’s the sponsor. Three experienced racers from North Carolina competed in the Pro Stock Motorcycle Class. Shawn Gann from Stoneville, NC rode the Pirana Z Racing Buell. Matt and Angie Smith of King, NC, competed on their Viper Motorcycle Company Buells. Even though he’s from Connecticut, we still cheered for John Hall since he races with the Matt Smith team. HarleyDavidson fields two teams for riders Andrew Hines and Eddie Kraweic. In the Four-Wide Nationals, the top two finishers advance to the next round. Matt Smith and Gann made it through the first round, but were eliminated in the second round. Kraweic made it to the final round and finished as the runner up. The NHRA is the premier drag racing series in the world. Pro Stock motorcycles are scheduled to race again at zMax Dragway September 13-15. If you can’t make it to a race, you can still cheer for the Carolina teams racing with NHRA on ESPN.

The 7th Annual Look Twice Save A Life Poker Run

OLD HEARSE COMP G F O S T ANY L.L.C. R EE

A unique & Respectful last ride Scan This To for Motorcyclist Watch A VIdeo!

By: Kidd The 7th Annual Look Twice Save A Life Poker Run put on by Motorcycle Awareness Of Anderson, SC started out cold and wet, and it ended cold and wet at Sue’s Wings And Things. But Sue’s was ready with cold drinks and warm food. The turn out was dampened, but the heartiness of the Carolina biker is unmatched. Over 200 showed up and a number of cages as well. Rick and Tonya out did themselves as usual. Vendors were there and 4 bands that were moved inside due to fowl weather making for a mighty tight fit. Motorcycle Awareness of Anderson SC is a non-profit organization that promotes motorcycle awareness among the general driving public. They started one of there first runs in 2003 and really got organized a few years ago. Their yellow sign campaign, radio and TV ads have prompted the state of South Carolina to design a license plate after one of their yard signs. They do a bang up job for all of us riding cage free. Till next month, keep the rubber on the black top.

Bros & Bro-ettes

Mr. Obama, tell us what really happened! Mr. Bush, tell us what really happened! Mr. Clinton, tell us what really happened! It is so sad when the ones in authority are not trustworthy and are not really what they portray. Many times I hear how evil, how bad, and uncivilized bikers are: how the leather they wear and the motorcycles they ride prove they are outcasts from society: how the Sturgis and Daytona videos prove the lack of self-control and are degrading. I always have the same answer, “The videos are not fake, not fiction, not doctored, and bikers are not liars! They tell you what really happened, whether you want to know or not!” IRS, FBI, Mrs. Clinton, tell us what really happened! Our own government can no longer be trusted to have our best interest in mind, to protect us and keep our nation a nation of freedoms! There is a lack of self-control but it’s not in the biker world! ABC, CBS, NBC, tell us what really happened! When the reporters start covering up for the cover-ups and the truth no longer matters, only the promoting of an agenda, then we have lost the ability to say we are an honest people and an honorable nation. There is dishonor but it’s not in the biker world! Preachers, teachers, evangelist, pastors, tell us what really happened! You are no different than the world around you if you water down the Gospel of Jesus Christ to get more money in the plate, more donations coming in, more fame and fortune

for yourself! There are scams going on but it’s not in the biker world! Bikers, do you have the guts to be real with who you are? I believe you do and are disgusted with how things are today! It takes a lot of guts to be real in Jesus, no games, no fake, just the Truth of Jesus as Your Lord and Savior! Pray the Biker’s Prayer on this page, mean it in your heart, and get real in who you are in Jesus and go into all the world and tell them what really happened! Our nation needs the Truth of Jesus and bikers are not ashamed of Him! Let’s ride!

By: Judy Bortz Well, it is riding season again, not that we would know by the weather. Saturday, May 4th wasn’t as warm as I would have liked, but it was a great day for a ride, and The Blue Knights really know how to organize a good one! This year the ride was started from Carolina Coast Harley-Davidson in Wilmington, NC, where coffee and doughnuts were available to all! When I pulled in around 9:15 there were already about 80 bikes lined up and they kept rolling in right up to KSU. It was a day ride, but was well attended by many Knights. Patches from Blue Knights Fayetteville, Raleigh, Clinton, and Jacksonville were there, along with Nam Knights, and Red Knights who all showed strong support for this great cause. The Blue Knights NC 13 (Fayetteville) will be having their Officer Down Ride in June. Look for that one in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Crusin’ Calendar; it is shaping up to be one to remember! Officer Down proceeds are kept locally while a portion raised goes to C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors) a national organization that supplies counseling, groceries, and long term support for families of the brave men and women who lose their lives in the line of duty. Even though the day was cloudy and overcast the ride itself was awesome. We took back roads through Brunswick County to Beach House Harley-Davidson, where a great southern spread of fried chicken, pulled pork, green beans, baked beans, cornbread, and slaw were just an appetizer for the awesome apple cobbler that was dessert! The meal was cooked up by Wilmington’s Middle of the Island Catering who did a great job! Kudos to both Wilmington and Brunswick County Sherriff’s Departments who escorted the 100+ bikes along the route! It is great riding in a huge group when you don’t have to stop for any lights or traffic! They always do a wonderful job keeping the pack safe! This ride was a great start to the 2013 riding season, and I, for one, am looking forward to more, so bring it ON! Be safe out there, brothers & sisters and keep the rubber side down!
