I
t’s in the books! It’s HISTORY! The 14th Attempt, Almost A Tradition, Pre-Daytona, Valentine’s Day Party and Oyster Roast at Easy Eddie’s was the biggest and best so far. The sun was bright and warm, the wind reminded us it was still February, but the food and fellowship was so good for the soul. Read all about it in this issue and view the pictures (the ones that we could make public) on our web site. If you were there, you know what I mean. If you weren’t, scratch and sniff. There’s always next year! Here in NC it snowed on February 20th, but I have seen daffodils in full bloom and I am still going with Scooter’s Groundhog Day prediction of an early spring. It is supposed to be 68º here this week and I promise you I am going to ride my bike somewhere. According to The Weather Channel, the average temperatures for the month of March start in the low 60’s and by the 31st they are averaging nearly 70º. I can do that! As of this writing, there are 30 new events added to the Cruisin’ Calendar and I am sure that there will be more before we get this issue to the printer. If you need an excuse to ride, pick one and RIDE! If you have a smart phone, scan the QR code in the Cruisin’ Calendar to see all the events that came in after we went to press. Also be sure to view The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine on line at www.FullThrottleMagazine.com. The whole magazine is there for you to refer to at any time. And remember, as always, it’s Fah-ree! If you are going to Daytona, ride smart and have a good time. We want to see you at events back here in the Carolinas. From the look of things starting up in March, this year promises to be a good one.

By: Chad W. Fuller, McGrath & Danielson I have good news for motorcyclists and, you guessed it, I have bad news as well. Many of you may recall receiving e-mails from Matt Danielson last year informing motorcyclists in the Commonwealth of Virginia that a bill had been introduced in the Legislature that would restrict the age in which a child would be permitted to ride on a motorcycle. Well, I am happy to report that the combined efforts of VCOM and motorcyclists across the state of Virginia were successful in defeating that bill last year. That was the good news, and now for the bad. House Representatives Daning and Crosby have introduced an eerily similar bill in my home state of South Carolina. House Bill 4653 would make it illegal for someone 7 years of age or younger to ride on a motorcycle in the state of South Carolina. Clearly, this is a situation in which the government is dictating to parents how to raise their children. Who better than the parents to determine if their child is mature enough to take a ride on a motorcycle? What is next? Is the government going to dictate and regulate your child’s caloric intake? This is a parent or grandparent’s choice and not the state of South Carolina’s. I suspect many of you reading this article took your first ride on a motorcycle at a young age. If this bill were to pass, it would rob future generations of those memories. We must not let that happen. Currently this bill has been assigned to the Committee on Judiciary and has yet to be assigned to subcommittee. As was the case in Virginia, it will take the work of motorcyclists to inform ignorant legislative members on the simple joy of a motorcycle ride with your child, just as it is up to us to inspire and educate the younger generation on the joys of motorcycling, regardless of their age. Editor’s Note: You can read the bill at the link below: http:// goo.gl/PhHOO. I encourage you to contact House Representatives Daning and Crosby and ask them to withdraw this bill. Their contact information can be found at: http://goo. gl/1vZpW. Message To Our Valued Customers From Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson
In an attempt to enhance business and restore harmony within all sections of our community it is our proposal to shorten the length of the existing May Motorcycle events duration from what has covered three (3) weekends to only two (2) weekends, by simply blending the events into one contiguous festival (ending Memorial weekend), sponsored by C.A.S.A. and the “Wounded Warrior” charities. It is our intention to create different venues of entertainment throughout the Strand (and west of the waterway) to allow for a variety of activities rather than simply congregating. Last year my staff created afternoon and early evening “pier parties”, vending locations, supplied demo rides, contests and activities from Cherry Grove to Garden City. This year we want to lay a foundation for live music/entertainment to be incorporated into the festival. We’re working with Guinness Book of Records to create the World’s

It has grown into one of our State’s largest producers of revenue. As proposed, it will take three (3) years to totally get to a combined two weekend manageable festival in May. By: Associated Press - Monday, February 13, 2012 Two sections of the historic Blue Ridge Parkway in western North Carolina will be closed for roughly two months in order for crews to perform repair work on a pair of tunnels. The National Park Service said the closures will start Monday and will last until April 15. The section of the parkway between Milepost 393.8 to Milepost 405 is being closed for repairs to Ferrin Knob Tunnel #1. A section of the road between Milepost 443 and the end of the parkway at U.S. 441 in Cherokee will also close until April 15 for repairs on the Big Witch Tunnel. In addition to the sections of road being closed, the park service says there will not be a signed detour, so drivers should plan ahead. Randolph County CBA Presents Checks To Mills Home
By: Johnny Needham & Jackie Smith Randolph County CBA had their 25th Annual Toy Run to Mills Home in Thomasville on Sunday, December 4, 2011. On February 7th, Lynn Garner, Central Director from the Mills Home, came to Randolph County’s CBA meeting and was presented a check for $3,121 and personal checks for $215 for a total of $3336. There was also $180 dollars in gifts cards donated. On the day of the ride several other motorcycle groups gave a total of $1000 to Mills Home not counting what was given in cash and toys. Ms. Garner was pleased and very grateful. She said that would go a long way in helping the children and their needs. Our first ride to benefit Mills Home in Thomasville was in 1986. The ride continues to get bigger and better every year. Oh, what a day it was! We broke a long standing record of 1500 bike with over 2500 bikes! We invite you to be a part of this great cause. It will be on the first Sunday in December again this year. Watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for the date.

Easy Eddies’s Leather & Lace Show
By: DPapaBear Saturday, February 4th started out as a cool, rainy day outside but at Easy Eddie’s in Huntersville things inside got kinda warm. Easy Eddies hosted their annual Leather & Lace show with models from Cirque du Chattes Burlesque. The ladies were modeling some of the great looking, barely covering, sexy outfits that everyone loved. Two lucky 50/50 ticket winners were selected for door prizes and hot seats on stage, which included a personal show by the ladies during each of the segments. Another final winner received about $135 from the 50/50 and the last hot seat on stage. Then the ladies tried to get all that money back from them with very personal dances. WOW!! And what a show it was! The ladies ended up getting all the money back from the lucky winner, a beautiful blonde LADY! Go figure. The ladies were also dancing on top of the bar as they made their way to the stage and strutted their stuff on the dance pole at the bar as well. There was also a lady mingling in the crowd and giving whippings to some of the guys who were brave enough to bare their backs for her whips. And, boy! she did not hold back much either, turning their backs red. She would also let you whip her but I think most of the guys were a little intimidated to really let her have it back. All the ladies in the show were working for tips and

Alamance County CBA And The MSAP Recognize Garland King
By: Scott Wicker On Saturday, January 21st, the Alamance County Chapter of Concerned Bikers Association (CBA) and the Motorcycle Safety Awareness Program (MSAP) recognized Garland King for his efforts in educating teenage drivers education students on motorcycle awareness. Garland works for the NC Driving School of Winterville, NC and has been teaching drivers education for over 11 years. While most drivers’ education instructors may only spend minutes on the subject of motorcycle awareness, King takes it many steps further. Each year he takes over 500 students by Down Home Harley-Davidson in Burlington to not only teach his students that they share the road with motorcycles, but to also make them aware of the things a rider goes through on their journey. He shows the students what it feels like to wear a helmet by actually letting them wear one and what each type of helmet may do to change a riders line of sight. Comparing full-face helmets to open face helmets. He lets them feel what it’s like to wear a heavy leather jacket and gloves and explains to them what a rider does and goes through. He even shows them how small and how venerable a motorcycle is compared to a car by actually making them aware about height, length, width, and weight differences between the two. He wants his student not only to be aware of motorcycles on the road, but for them to realize the consequences if there is an accident involving a car and a motorcycle. He teaches them that 2/3rds of all motorcycle accidents result in a tragedy for the bike rider and that their misjudgments while driving a car can effect the life Specializing in of that person, the Exotic Hides rider’s family, and LEATHER ART their own for years Custom Seat Pans to come. injury that cost him a career as a major league baseball player. We would like to thank Garland King for his passion for teaching motorcycle awareness to all his students and for help making it safer for all us riders. Thanks to the Alamance County CBA and the MSAP for their recognition of Mr. King for his contribution to all of us. We would like to thank Down Home Harley-Davidson and their staff for letting Mr. King come in and use their facility to educate his students. Remember! Please Ride and Drive Safe in 2012!!

Beach House Harley-Davidson 3rd Anniversary Party 2.11.12
By: Steve (Heartburn) Rowland On February 11th, I was heading to Beach House H-D to take them some more Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazines. I was about one half mile from the dealership when I saw about 40 bikes heading back south on 17. I recognized a few of them from other rides I have attended. I thought for that many bikes to pull out at once they must have had a poker run or something. Turned out, I showed up right in the middle of a birthday celebration. The store was all decorated up with balloons and party stuff. The staff said I just missed a bunch leaving. I got there just in time for the free birthday pizza. They had cheese pizza, sausage pizza, and pepperoni pizza. At this very moment my guts are burning up pepperoni, no wait I think it might be sausage. Anyway, the birthday cake they had later was good as well. A big cake with butter cream icing, it seemed to be a big item of discussion when they were purchasing the cake. It turned out to be the right choice. I stuck around for a few hours, talked to a few bikers about our new dates for the May Rally. They have some strong opin-

www.Harley-DavidsonNewbern.com By: Pedro Mmmm… Pancakes!! I’ve never been what you’d call a morning person, but pancakes always seem to bring a smile to my face. Just thinking about ‘em makes my stomach growl. But it wasn’t growling after the Annual Pancake Breakfast at Harley-Davidson of New Bern on February 11th, because if you left there hungry it was your own fault. Shelia and the crew kept the flapjack stacks coming; hot off the griddle, along with scrambled eggs and all the other fixin’s for a tasty home-style breakfast. Blueberry or buttermilk? I sampled quite a few of both, believe me. Breakfast wasn’t the only thing cooking though, as there were hot deals throughout the dealership. If you are looking for anything and everything Harley-Davidson, this is the place to be. From jewelry and clothing, to riding gear and bike accessories, Jimmie Allen and Harley-Davidson of New Bern have what you need. And of course, there were the beautiful motorcycles themselves, new and used, waiting for their new owners to claim them. Some truly sweet rides! But don’t take my word for it. Go to Harley-DavidsonNewBern.com to check out all of their bikes, gear, and collectibles. Their events calendar is also available there, so you won’t miss out on the fun and fellowship next time. Speaking of which, the Chili Cook-Off and Ride For Cancer is coming up on March 24th, so clear your schedule and we’ll see you there. If the chili is as good as those pancakes were, you’d better bring your appetite, too.

Bros & Bro-ettes Do you look at people and automatically make a decision about them based on what they are wearing, how they look physically, what they are driving or riding? Do you quickly decide if you like them or not or will speak to them, all based on a moments observation? Most of us are guilty! Or have you had someone make a hasty decision about you based on your clothing, tattoos, long hair, or what you are riding? If so you probably didn’t like it and thought it really unfair. If you have done this to others it was unfair to them also, but this type of quick judgment takes place everyday by well meaning people. Here’s an example: A woman was at work when she received a phone call that her daughter was very sick with a fever. She left her work and stopped by the pharmacy to get some medication. She got back to her car and found that she had locked her keys in the car. She didn’t know what to do, so she called home and told the baby sitter what had happened. The baby sitter told her that the fever was getting worse. She said, “You might find a coat hanger and use that to open the door.” The woman looked around and found an old coat hanger that had been thrown down on the ground; she looked at the hanger and said, “I don’t know how to use this.” So she bowed her head and asked God to send her some help. Within five minutes a Harley pulled up, with a dirty, greasy, bearded man who was wearing
an old biker skull rag on his head. The woman thought, “This is what you sent to help me?” The biker asked her if he could help. She said, “Yes, my daughter is very sick. I stopped to get her some medication and I locked my keys in my car. I must get home to her. Please, can you use this hanger to unlock my car?” He said, “Sure”. He walked over to the car, and immediately the car was opened. She hugged the man and through her tears she said, “Thank You So Much! You are a very nice man.” The man replied, “Lady, I am not a nice man. I just got out of prison today. I was in prison for car theft and have only been out for about an hour.” The woman hugged the man again and with sobbing tears cried out loud, “Oh, Thank you God! You even sent me a professional!” Don’t judge the biker by the outside appearance, this may be the professional God has sent to you today! Please pray the Biker’s Prayer on this page, mean it in your heart as you say it out loud, and let Jesus use you as the help someone prays for!

By: Caroline James and Jim at Just Hawgs in Walkertown, NC have done it again! They have come up with a really great idea to bring some great ideas to their customers. On January 12th, they invited anyone that had an interest to come by their shop and see what one of their favorite vendors had to offer. The folks at Custom Dynamics came all the way from Wake Forest, NC to show us what they had in the way of lights for your ride. It was really a great show where you could actually see all the LED lighting that they had to offer and get some great ideas for your bike. They offer the TruFlex, TruWrapz, and the MagicFlex that do a variety of functions from changing color to strobe effects. All of Custom Dynamics products carry a lifetime LED illumination warranty! By time I left, I had a hundred ideas going through my head. Apparently I wasn’t the only one since James and Jim were swamped with folks wanting lights installed on their rides! To sweeten the deal, James offered a discount for anyone making an appointment with him within 2 weeks of the show! This event was such a success, James has plans for more of these types of seminars with some of the vendors he works with. Stay tuned and we will let you know as soon as he schedules another one! Come on by Just Hawgs at 5326 Main Street in Walkertown, NC. You can also, call them Tuesday through Saturday at 336-595-2210 if you have other needs for your bike. They are truly committed to providing their customers the best in service and riding experience.

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine
14th Attempt
By: Mark Infield On Saturday, February 11th Easy Eddie’s in Huntersville, NC hosted The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine’s 14th Attempt, Almost A Tradition, Pre Daytona, Valentine’s Day Party and Oyster Roast. Now that’s a mouthful so we simply call it the Fear Of February Party. We also understand that the weather in February can be unpredictable and not very conducive to outdoor activities like partying or riding motorcycles, so every one is given a pass to come in their cars if they so choose. This year it was cool and windy. The temperatures were in the high 40’s with wind gusts up to 30mph. That might sound bad, but we ride motorcycles and mostly above 30mph! Besides this was pretty good weather for a Fear Of February Party. One year we had sleet blowing on a 45º angle! Eddie & Judy and their staff and The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Staff all knew what to do and it wasn’t long before the crowd started rolling in. US Food Service stepped up again this year and donated 200# of wings and Bob Karney, Carolinas’ Biker Lawyer, was gratious enough to sponsor the oysters. We ate them all and they were damn good! Outside there was a fire going and lots of people were rotating in front of it. There was a beer tub set up right there, too. Streets Of Gold Motorcycle Hearse, Bikers For Bikers Foundation, and Charlotte Concerned Bikers Association were meetin’ & greetin’ folks all day. Lynn Isenhower set up his motorcycle tours display inside. Inside, the place was elbow to elbow and everyone that I could see was bending one! In addition to the free wings and oysters, Easy Eddie’s has a full kitchen and people were taking advantage of that, too. Scott & Rob of Little Dreamer Productions supplied the music and allowed us the use of their PA system to reach out to the crowd. There were lots of giveaways, but before we got to the top three prizes, we went back outside and had some fun with motorcycles. We brought along “Little Bitch”, which is a mini Fat Boy style motorcycle with highway pegs and ape hangers. We passed her around and everyone had fun with her, but that IS why we brought her. Pop-A-Top did the flop and drop, Doc took a little slide rounding one of the cones and another guy danced with her for a little bit, but no one got hurt. My ribs hurt from laughing so hard, though! Then we introduced “Little Orifice Annie” to the crowd. The game was to take a 4’ long foam noodle and hitter in the shitter. You should have seen all of that. If you weren’t there, you will have to go to FullThrottleMagazine.com > pictures > March 2012 > Fear Of February Party to see the pictures. Wayne-O Ammons from Mt. Holly, NC rode his Electra Glide for the tire toss and “Little Bitch” for the final round earning a $25 gift certificate to Easy Eddie’s. We were all out of beer, so we went back inside and got us 3 or 4! Easy Eddie’s keeps their beer ON ICE so you never get half warm cooler beer there. If you were expecting hot chocolate, you came to the wrong place! Now it was time to determine who would wear The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Chuggin’ Champion mantle for 2012. We had a good field of contenders and pretenders this year and it only took one round to sort them out. Pop-A-Top, Randall, Wayne-O, Donnie, Mike, and Dewey made up the Male Contestants. The way this worked was that the contestants had to drink their beer and turn the cup upside down on their head first to win. Pop-A-Top, Mike, and Dewey advanced to the Championship round. While the guys rested, we brought the ladies up for their first round. Shari, Christi, Rhonda, Crystal, and Joy represented the ladies. Shari,
www.FullThrottleMagazine.com Christi, and Joy were crowd favorites and advanced to the Championship round. Dewey Gamble of Lincolnton, NC was a clear Winner for the men and Joy Clink, from Charlotte, NC blew Shari and Christi away! We always give any past Champions an opportunity to defend their title and Joy went on to best two time past champion, Kathy Johnson. But wait! Next Joy challenged the men’s champion, Dewey and she kicked his ass! Dewey and Joy were each awarded a beer mug etched with “2012 Full Throttle Chuggin’ Champion” and a $25 gift certificate to Easy Eddie’s. CONGRATULATIONS Joy and Dewey. It was fun and the crowd loved it! Now it was time for the big prizes to be given away. First was a Dale Jr. stand up from 1999, his first year the Winston Cup circuit and the guy that won it got away with it before we got his name. Butch Medders from Huntersville, NC nearly tripped over everyone getting to the stage to claim the 14k gold and diamond heart pendant from Hayes Jewelers “The King of Diamonds” in Lexington, NC. He promised that he was going to give it to his wife who was working that day. You gotta love a woman who will work while you go out and party with your friends! Meghan Turner from Mooresville, NC, one of Easy Eddie’s bartenders won the LG 50” Plasma Flat Screen TV. Ironically, Meghan didn’t buy the winning ticket. Some people from her hometown bought them and gave them to her when they left. Talk about a storybook ending! Meghan was thrilled and can’t wait to set it up in her new apartment very soon. Many of us hung around Easy Eddie’s and had a few more beers and ate before calling it a day. What a day it was! Easy Eddie’s was the best venue yet and I am certain that this was the biggest and best Fear Of February Party so far. I have no idea how we are going to top this one, but I am sure that next year’s party will be a wing ding, too. They always are! Be there! I want to thank everyone that came out and spent the day with The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine at Easy Eddie’s. Their staff and our staff worked their butts off, but that is what it takes to make an event successful. We appreciate the vendors and Little Dreamer Productions for their contributions. Hell, Yea! Just thinking about it makes me want to do it again. Watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine’s Cruisin’ Calendar for next year’s 15th Attempt, Almost A Tradition, Pre Daytona, Valentine’s Day Party and Oyster Roast. We do not know where it will be yet, but the date will be the Saturday nearest to Valentine’s Day which is 2/9/13.

828 Freedom Riders Fund Raiser For The 2-35 Infantry Battalion Delta Company 3rd Platoon In Afghanistan By: Chief Cherevas, 828 Freedom Riders - Western NC Chapter The 828 Freedom Riders formed on July 4, 2011 and are here to support our troops and our military. Our newest member “JAR” was about to re-deploy for another 6 months in Afghanistan. The 828 Freedom Riders had a job to support our newest member, but somehow it grew into supporting the entire Platoon you see pictured. These Boys are in the furthest region of Afghanistan and it is not very “Friendly” out there. At this small base, this platoon and the rest of this base receive hostile artillery fire of all shapes and forms around the clock. For 99% of us, it would be one helluva scary place to be. These boys are sent out into the region for weeks at a time and you never hear from them until they return. These boys are out there fighting for our freedom and we felt it was our duty as a club to support this entire platoon and their adopted stray dag named Lucy. Our first ever fund raiser was set for October 29th, but due to high winds, rain, snow, and wet fallen leaves on the roads we made the decision to post-pone this event for another month. On Saturday, November 26th, the 828 Freedom Riders hosted this fund raiser at the Fairview Tavern, 831 Old Fairview Road in Asheville, NC. There was a bike show, tattoo contest, 50/50, a huge raffle, an in house poker run, a DJ, along with great food and drink discounts. For whatever reason, there was a poor showing of bikers, most of them being Veterans, that came to enjoy this event. The 828 Freedom Riders want to thank all who attended and help raise a little under $700. We were able to buy Baby Wipes, Beef Jerky, dog treats, roman noodles, chocolate, and many other much needed supplies for this platoon. Bike Show Winners are as follows: BEST V-TWIN CUSTOM - Jothal Holland, BEST METRIC CRUISER - Sparky Albright, BEST SPORTSTER - Chris Mason, BEST SPORT BIKE - Janet Schierle, BEST FULL DRESSER - Bill West, BEST PAINT - Harley Metcalf, BEST SOFTAIL - Kevin Smith, BEST CHOPPER - Chief Cherevas, JUDGE’S CHOICE - Mark Woodby, PEOPLE’S CHOICE - Dan Crum. 828 FREEDOM RIDERS wants to thank the soldiers at the Army and Navy recruiting offices in Asheville, NC for their time to be judges for the bike show. Tattoo contest winners are as follows: BEST COLOR - Melissa Fuller, BEST BLACK & GRAY - Tim Plemmons, BEST BACK – Tracy, BEST SLEEVE - Chief Cherevas. A huge Thank You goes out to Jennifer of Blockbusters Video on Patton Avenue in Asheville for getting with the other stores and raised 7 or 8 large and medium sized boxes slapped plum full of all kinds of candy which the public had donated to support this platoon. Haribo of America, Inc., the manufacture of Gummy candies also donated 1 box filled with a large
assortment of gummy candies. A special thanks also goes out to Brad Pearsall and his wife for donating 2 cases of their Microbroo shampoo and body wash, Tracie & Lexi of the Fairview Tavern for allowing us to host this fund raiser at their establishment, TEC2 for collecting donations at the Kangaroo Convenient store in Leicester, The Mountain 105.9 Rock Girls for signing 3 posters that are now hanging on the walls in a barracks in Afghanistan. And if you wish to know more about The 828 Freedom Riders, its all here on our new website: www.828freedomriders.webs.com. The 828 Freedom Riders packed up some 15 or so flat rate USPS boxes in early December and sent them on their way. This platoon received the boxes on Christmas eve. These Boys were on top of the world! We are now gathering up more supplies and raising more money to send off another set of supply boxes to this platoon. The 828 Freedom Riders want to thank everyone for all their help, support and their donations. We mostly want to thank all our soldiers deployed all over the world for fighting for OUR FREEDOM and making the USA a safe place to live. GOD BLESS AMERICA

Standing For Miss Anne 2/14/24 - 1/27/12 By: Steve (Ready to Get’r Done) Rowland Where were you on 9/11? I was getting ready for work watching it live on the Today Show, I lived close to DC and lots of my coworkers had family in the Pentagon. Everyone knows, that day changed the way we feel about the security of our country. How our brave military get the respect that they deserve. Not only the Armed forces of today, but also our oldest veterans that are fast becoming extinct. They are going fast. I was out on Friday, February 2nd and saw some leather clad bikers standing guard for one of our vets of WWII and Korea. They were standing with our American Flag flying proudly outside Lee’s Funeral Home in Little River, SC. I had to pull in. Some of the Patriot Guards Riders, Rolling Thunder, and American Legion Riders were there. I ran across Gary (Grand Dude) Anderson, who is the NC Ride Captain. He said they were holding a vigil for about 5 hours today and a ride to her funeral tomorrow. Steve Maupin was out there representing our local Rolling Thunder. He had been there a few hours. I wanted to get some information about our American Veteran, one, that would have total strangers standing out holding our flag in her honor. Yes I said “her”! It turns out the veteran was a woman. Her name was Julia Anne “Annie” Gogging. I met her sons, Shawn and Neil, tonight. They were so proud of their mother. I heard Neil tell a little tale that Anne was one of the few women who were paid in WWII and that she got more money than one of the uncles. It was a big thing in her family. Her son gave me a prayer card about Anne, he said just read the card, that’s how she lived. It read, “Life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting ‘holly shit…what a ride!’ I want everyone to have a ride like I have had and enjoy. Miss Anne.” Both the sons said it was so great that these bikers came out
Shawn and Neil and they appreciated that the group was honoring their mom. There where about 20 riders outside. If you would like to see some pics just go to www.FullThrottleMagazine.com and click on “Pictures” > “March 2012” > “Standing For Miss Anne”. You can get plenty of information about the Patriot Guard Riders, just check out their Web site www.patriotguard.org. Their mission is “Standing for those Who Stood for US”. I can’t wait for bike month this year! Come on down and check it out!

If you ride a motorcycle in Tennessee, current law requires you to wear a helmet, but that may soon change. The Motorcycle Liberty Restoration Act introduced by Representative Matheny as House Bill 2661 would make helmet-wearing after July 1, 2012 optional for bikers 21 or older if the bill is passed. “People seem to really know the importance of a helmet, but they really want to be able to choose if they wear or don’t,” said Jason Smith, owner of Smith Brothers Harley-Davidson in Johnson City, TN. Choice is what this controversy over the Tennessee helmet law boils down to for motorcycle owners, and on the side of the helmet issue is AAA of Tennessee. AAA has lobbied long and hard against freedom of choice when it comes to the helmet issue. Many times they have used unsubstantiated or just plain wrong statistics to make their case. But because they are a high profile business, their opinion seems to matter more than those who ride. However, for motorcycle owners it’s still a matter of personal rights and statistics demonstrate less than 1% difference in head trauma fatalities between mandatory helmet law states and freedom of choice states. “We all want the right to be able to choose,” said Smith. “I believe that’s what the citizens and the enthusiasts of motorcycling are really concerned about that they ‘have to’ or they ‘choose to’.” Discussion on the bill to change the helmet law in Nashville has been put off for another week to give both sides of the issue time to prepare for further debate. This isn’t the first time a change in the helmet law has come up in Nashville. It has come up numerous times over the years, sometimes as a standalone bill or attached to another piece of legislation. Each time the helmet law has remained in place, but this time both sides of this issue have lobbyists in place to debate it before lawmakers. You can view HB 2661 at: http://goo.gl/QFKz9

Women Who Ride - Judy Bortz I grew up in Amish Country, PA and have been around and on bikes since I was in high school. In 1983 my boyfriend told me he’d rather have me riding beside him than behind him. I thought that was so damn romantic that I bought my first bike, a 1979 Harley-Davidson FX and was hooked. Over the years since, I had an 883, then finally my dream bike and current ride, a 2005 Softail Deluxe. When I left PA I embarked on a 3-week, 5100 mile, 14 state road trip to Texas. I will never forget riding down the Great Smokey Mountains in the rain at night, or crossing the bridges and levies on the way into New Orleans. It was a trip of a lifetime, and a dream for as long as I can remember, creating lifetime memories, and making lifelong friends on the way. I put the kickstand down in Supply, NC in 2010. Since then the road trips are shorter, but always as memorable. I am very excited about starting this new chapter with Full Throttle Magazine as the Wilmington representative. I look forward to promoting Wilmington businesses and events, and becoming active in the community here. This is a great town with so much to offer bikers whether they live here, come for vacation, or are just passing through. So stop in and support the businesses that support us, and if you see me on the road be sure to wave! Keep the rubber side down, and be safe out there!

By: Caroline The unthinkable has happened! I stopped by Just Hawgs in Walkertown, NC on February 16th just in time to see the owner, James Deal, being handcuffed and taken to jail by the Kernersville Police! James was trying like crazy to gather as many donations for MDA as he could so he could make bail and get out. However, he did not have enough and was taken away immediately! The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a great organization that does so much for folks afflicted with this devastating disease. Muscular Dystrophy creates death in muscle cells and has no known cure. The affect it has on children with the disease is terrible. If you can, please donate towards this great cause to help find a cure. If you would like to help James, he can be reached at Just Hawgs, 5326 Main Street in Walkertown, NC; 336-595-2210. Or if you know of someone who is being locked up for MDA, I would encourage you to help them make bail!

I was driving with my three young children one warm summer evening when a woman in the convertible ahead of us stood up and waved. She was stark naked! As I was reeling from the shock, I heard my 5-year-old shout from the back seat, “Mom, that lady isn’t wearing a seat belt!” Two women were out for a Saturday stroll. One had a Doberman and the other, a Chihuahua. As they walked down the street, the one with the Doberman said to her friend, “Let’s go over to that bar for a drink.” The lady with the Chihuahua said, “We can’t go in there. We’ve got dogs with us.” The one with the Doberman said, “Just watch, and do as I do.” They walked over to the bar and the one with the Doberman put on a pair of dark glasses and started to walk in. The bouncer at the door said, “Sorry, lady, no pets allowed.” The woman with the Doberman said, “You don’t understand. This is my seeing-eye dog.” The bouncer said, “A Doberman?” The woman said, “Yes, they’re using them now. They’re very good.” The bouncer said, “OK, come on in.” The lady with the Chihuahua thought that convincing him that a Chihuahua was a seeing-eye dog may be a bit more difficult, but thought, “What the heck,” so she put on her dark glasses and started to walk in. Once again the bouncer said, “Sorry, lady, no pets allowed.” The woman said, “You don’t understand. This is my seeingeye dog” The bouncer said, “A Chihuahua?” The woman with the Chihuahua said, “A Chihuahua? They gave me a f#ck!ng Chihuahua?!”

US House Committee Targets Federal Funding Of Motorcycle Only Roadside Checkpoints
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation reports that Wednesday, February 1st, the United States House of Representatives Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure rolled out the latest version of the highway bill. The bill is the long term funding bill for road construction and highway programs. This version of the bill takes aim at a controversial practice of the Department of Transportation which funded motorcycle-only roadside checkpoints with taxpayer dollars. The checkpoints have drawn much criticism from the motorcycle community at large. So much so, that longtime motorcycle champion Representative James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) had introduced legislation to end the program by prohibiting any future Federal funding of any motorcycle-only roadside checkpoints. That bill is HR 904. The mammoth highway bill includes the same language as contained in HR 904. Representative Sensenbrenner had this to say, “We need to focus on proven methods of motorcycle safety, including crash prevention, rider education, and training and proper licensing. Motorcycle-only checkpoints are an intrusive governmental overreach that place an undue burden on riders while doing little to actually improve safety,” He added, “It is encouraging to see that the transportation reauthorization bill will encourage more efficient use of taxpayer dollars and smart motorcycle safety policy.” Representative Tom Petri (R-WI), a staunch defender of the motorcyclists, had this comment on the issue, “Motorcycle riders are right to be outraged at being singled out for safety inspections,” Petri said. “Nobody is suggesting flagging cars down

for unscheduled inspections, and there’s no good reason why motorcycles should be treated differently. It’s unnecessarily intrusive, and not a smart way to use limited police resources.” We at the MRF could not agree more. What Is The Real Public Burden?
By: Mark Temple, BOLT of California; Director, Center for 9th Circuit Court Studies Bikers Of Lesser Tolerance (BOLT) of California is excited to publicize and support the recently filed Class Action lawsuit in Clark County Nevada. The “Class M Class Action” was filed September 27, 2011 in federal court in Las Vegas by Attorney Travis Barrick. The suit is the logical next step for motorcyclists to stop illegal enforcement tactics. When examined by the eye of the law, most helmet tickets are rights violations. A ticket for an “unapproved helmet” is nothing more than an arbitrary tax on riders who pay the ticket simply because they don’t know they shouldn’t pay. There is a pattern and practice of keeping riders with tickets out of court [by] cashing a rider’s check in a guilty plea or dismissing the ticket when it is challenged in court. There are no “DOT Approved” helmets, according to the Department of Transportation. “Repeal It Or Feel It” was formed when the legislature of Nevada was offered a chance to change the law allowing adults the choice of wearing a helmet when riding. If the law had been repealed, adults would not be subject to enforcement of the helmet law. Government decided to keep the bad law intact. They didn’t repeal it, so now they will feel it. Government paying the people back will really hurt them, but 4th Amendment violations will stop. Many in favor of a helmet law claim there is a “public burden” when motorcyclists are injured, assuming their insurance won’t cover the cost. The most well known of these studies was a bogus study citing figures pulled out of thin air by a California legislator. Side-by-side comparisons of helmet law states and free states show no appreciable difference in injuries or deaths per accident. If mandating helmet use saved lives it would be obvious in a comparison eliminating all variables except the injury results per 1000 crashes. Statistics show the public burden theory is as phony as the imaginary study from California. The real public burden is the Constitutional violations committed by officers writing unapproved helmet tickets – helmet tickets with no probable cause. The 4th Amendment was intended to relieve the citizens of that burden of government without limits. Removing dollars from the vital economy under false pretenses is the burden that results from officers writing those illegitimate tickets. David Stilwell, one of the named plaintiffs in the Class M case, recently was awarded his legal costs of challenging 2 helmet tickets. The charges were dismissed by prosecutors after guilty verdicts in lower court. The judge forced the DAs of the jurisdictions to reimburse Stilwell the costs he incurred in fighting tickets that he appealed. The cops and prosecutors caused that public burden. Legislators and law enforcers want to talk public burden? The class action suit asks to compensate Clark County riders
for abuses already committed by cities, police, and District Attorneys, and the constant threat of abuse whenever anyone rides a motorcycle there. No one is contending the NV law is unconstitutional. But the Constitution prohibits police and prosecutors from shredding a citizen’s rights, whether pedestrian, driver or rider. www.RepealItOrFeelIt.com has more information and a way to contribute to the effort. The complaint filed in federal court can be read at www. BOLTofCA.com When the Class M Class Action suit is successful, officers will be forced to stop violating the law to enforce a law on riders.

Station’s Inn Motorcycle Resort Will Not Open in 2012
By: Mark Infield Many of us have visited Station’s Inn on Highway 18 S in Laurel Springs, NC. On February 13th, owner, Mike Schweitzer sent out a notice that Station’s Inn would not open in 2012. The post read:
“It is with sadness that I must announce that I am closing Station’s Inn Motorcycle Resort and will not open for the 2012 season. I must walk away…..For the past seven seasons I have had the pleasure and often times the honor to meet and get to know some of the greatest people that ride two wheels. To my family, friends, regulars, groups, clubs, weekend riders, Parkway travelers, the Station’s Inn bands, all the people who stay at, dined at or visited Station’s Inn; thank you for your support. To the staff of Station s Inn thank you for making Station’s Inn what it was. The home of Mt. Dew Chicken, a destination with the friendliest staff, coldest beer, the place to look and be seen, the place people talked about, and came back to. Remember…. Station’s Inn, The Original Motorcycle Resort since 1998. Often imitated but never duplicated. Serving the greatest people on two wheels. Sadly is no more. Thank you all; it has been a hell of a ride. Mike S.”

A notice on the Station’s Inn web site indicates that Mike had been wanting to sell the business and retire for a couple of years. It was a good destination, that, like Mike said, sadly, is no more.

RIP Larry Ray Moore
By: Judy Bortz Wilmington, NC lost one of its iconic biker sons when Larry Ray Moore, born on 1/29/49 took his final journey on 1/27/12. Hundreds attended a memorial service that was held at Market Street Chapel on 1/31/12. Three parking lots were full, with friends parking blocks away to attend the service. On 2/1/12 a bike night was held at Chuckie D’s in Wilmington to allow friends and family to reminisce and share Larryisms. Chuck did up some oysters, and t-shirts were sold to benefit Larry’s grandkids. A biker prayer was said, tears were shed, and smiles spread. All over town businesses and watering holes posted RIP Larry Ray Moore signs. He left a permanent mark on the community and all of those that knew and loved him. He was always up for a ride and contributed to every cause he could manage. Larry shared his love of life and his great sprit with so many. He will be missed deeply! Keep the rubber side down and the wind in your face brother…RIP
