an you believe it’s May already? I can. Just one look at the Cruisin’ Calendar tells that it is riding season again. There are a variety of events to choose from, but none has drawn as much attention as the Myrtle Beach Spring Rally. After the Horry County Council tried to dissuade bikers from coming to Myrtle Beach by raising vendor fees, passing a helmet law (which was overturned by the SC Supreme Court), and telling everyone via the internet that the bikers were not welcome, the biker friendly businesses are pushing back, letting us know that they want our business back. Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson has been very aggressive and taken a lot of heat from both the community leaders and some local bikers for extending bike week dates into the Memorial Day weekend. The traditional dates for the Spring Rally are the 2nd week of May. This year, those dates are May 11-20. Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson has named May 14-28 for their Cruisin’ The Coast event, which adds some extra days of events to benefit charities and the community. Everyone is welcome, but it is my understanding that this is not an attempt to merge the MB Spring rally with the Atlantic Beach Bike Fest. Attend whatever dates and events you want, but be sure to support the businesses that are making an effort to re establish the Myrtle Beach Spring Rally and tell them you appreciate them for it. Frankly, it is refreshing to see businesses in the MB area reaching out and letting us know that they welcome us and want our business. With the cancellation of the Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealer association rally in New Bern, there will be more of an incentive to attend Myrtle Beach this year. I do not think we will ever see a formal apology from the Horry County Council, but the initiative of the businesses is resonating in my ears confirming that THEY do want us back. And that may be the closest thing to an apology we ever get. At any rate, the beach is back. I hope that it returns to the fun event that it was before the politicians decided it was too big. After all, the Myrtle Beach Spring Rally is one of the premiere events on the east coast and certainly stands tall in the Carolinas. Have fun out there and be careful.

Misconception About DOT Helmet Standards By: Elizabeth Sorrell, Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group Often when we appear in court representing someone charged with failing to wear a DOT approved helmet, the judges and district attorneys are baffled. They look at us with this confused look on their face and ask, “Why are you here? It’s just a helmet ticket.” The better question is, “Why are you here prosecuting a case where the state’s sole witness hasn’t read and doesn’t understand FMVSS 218 (better known as the DOT standards)?” Don’t get me wrong; we are not anti-police. Most officers do a good job and, quite frankly, could not care less what type of helmet the motorcyclist is wearing so long as they are wearing one. However, whenever we come across the officer who is consumed with the idea that he must protect us from ourselves, we find that the officer does not understand the very standards he accuses us of violating. For instance, when they claim that the helmet fails to meet the DOT standards because the helmet lining is not at least an inch thick I ask them to show me that requirement in the standards. Of course they can’t. There is no such requirement. When I ask the officer or trooper if they have read the standards the answer is invariably “No.” So why are so many of us riders getting tickets? Most police are trained improperly on the standards. They are told that the helmet must have a one to a one and a half inch thick inner liner and that it must have a DOT label. North Carolina’s helmet statute states as follows: “No person shall operate a motorcycle or moped upon a highway or public area unless the operator and all passengers thereon wear on their heads, with a retention strap properly secured, safety helmets of a type that complies with FMVSS 218” As you can see, nothing in the statute requires that the helmet be approved, certified, or labeled by the Department Of Transportation. FMVSS 218 does, in fact, have a labeling requirement. However, that requirement only applies while the helmet is in possession of the manufacturer, distributor, retailer, or dealer. Once the helmet is in the hands of the consumer the labeling requirement is inapplicable. You, the consumer, may remove, alter, or paint over the label. We know this to be fact because chief counsel for the Department Of Transportation has stated so in writing. According to the chief counsel of DOT, the labeling requirement is for manufacturers only. I recently represented several bikers here in North Carolina who were charged with having non-approved helmets. I put into evidence the letter from the U.S. Department Of Transportation described above. The court found our clients guilty anyway and stated that cases should go up to the higher courts so that this issue could be clarified and resolved. The judge felt that the letter clouded the issue. Once in Superior Court, the cases were dismissed by the District Attorney without a trial. We wanted to try the case. After seeing our evidence the DA’s office did not. In short, GS 20-140.4 of North Carolina does not require your helmet be labeled with a DOT sticker. Neither does FMVSS No. 218. My firm is not advocating or suggesting what type of helmet a rider should wear in North Carolina. We believe that adults are smart enough to make that choice on their own. We are advocating that every motorcyclist know what the law really says so that they can make an informed choice. If you choose not to wear a helmet that carries a DOT label and you receive a ticket Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group will be more than happy to represent you at no cost. Why do we do this? For years, motorcyclists have trusted us to represent them when they are injured by a careless driver. We will always stand up for our fellow riders who have trusted us. Hopefully we can eventually convince the government to trust us as well and leave personal safety decisions in the hands of the individual. If I can be of any help to you, please call Elizabeth Sorrell at Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group (The Firm That Rides) 1-800-321-8968.

By: DPapaBear On Saturday, April 14th, the Davidson County CBA Chapter hosted the Annual Central District CBA Spoker Run with riders coming from 9 other counties/locations with the rides ending at The Time Out Hut in Lexington, NC. There they were treated to hotdogs, burgers and chips and drinks, prepared by the Davidson County CBA Chapter, and music from The South of Normal Band within the Time Out Hut facilities. I counted at least 80 bikes, many with 2 up riders, and about a dozen other vehicles in attendance. The different chapters, (Uwharrie, Triad, Randolph, Montgomery, Chatham, Charlotte, Cabarrus/Rowan, and Alamance) started their rides from their respective locations earlier in the morning with stops along the way and all ending at the Time Out Hut for the afternoon and the weather turned out just great! Mother Nature seemed to know what the rides meant and cooperated perfectly! The event is to raise money for the Concerned Bikers Association to help allow them to continue their work fighting for our rights. This event raised around $1445 for the group and that was on top of them giving away plaques for the winning poker hands for each chapter, a drawing for $500, won by a very delighted Chris Kaelble, a 50/50 drawing for $300, won by a very happy Bob Fox, and which some of the winnings were donated back to the CBA. They also had numerous door prizes donated by a variety of sponsors and we certainly appreciate and thank each one of them! The Time Out Hut in Lexington is a private club operated for bikers by bikers as well as others and are offering a free t-shirt with paid memberships when using The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine VIP Card so stop on by and get yours. The Time Out Hut is open all week and has numerous activities going on each evening, so stop by and check them out. Be sure you tell them you saw them in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine! They are a continuous supporter of The Davidson County Pastors Pantry and last year gave over $2000 in cash and loads of food donated by the members and patrons! This goes on all year long and thanks to all who have a part in it. The Time Out Hut is the only bar/lounge that I am aware of that is accepted and recognized by the Lexington City Chamber of Commerce. The Time Out Hut is also a co-sponsor/ supporter of the Annual Josh T. Harris Memorial Veterans Event coming up in June at the Lexington Fairgrounds. So each one mark that on your calendar as well and come on out for a day of fun and entertainment and support our Veteran Organizations! For pics from this event and others, go to: www.fullthrottlemagizine.com and look under the pics section and enjoy! Meantime, get out and ride, stop by and visit the local establishments, meet old friends, make new ones, and enjoy the JOURNEY! Ride safe and see u down the road!!

By: Judy Bortz We have a very active biker community in the Wilmington area and there were a few happenings here Easter weekend, as there always is. I attended the 1st Annual Cars VS Cancer Poker Run organized by Angelo Lambiase on Saturday, April 7th to raise money for The American Cancer Society. This event is a preamble to an event that will take place on November 10th at the battleship USS North Carolina (save the date) called Wheels That Heal. I will ride for a good cause anytime, but when the proceeds are used on a local level as they are with The American Cancer Society, it makes helping the cause so much more personal. The weather was awesome for a ride, and about 20 bikes and 27 people showed up for the run. There was only 1 antique car that participated, an antique British taxicab that was very cool, probably because there was an antique car show the same day. Unfortunate as that was, the event was a success, and definitely one I will ride on again! The ride was sponsored by Illusion Cycles at 2362 Carolina Beach Rd, and the American Cancer Society and registration was held at AutoZone in Leland, NC. Stops included Hooters on Market St, National Speed at 6779 Gordon Rd who opened specifically for the event participants, and On The Border Mexican Restaurant in Mayfaire on Military Cutoff. This was a very biker friendly place that loved having us there. Dave Murray owner of Billy Goats at 6324 Market Street hosted the end; which included a stunt show by Fabrication Designs Unlimited riders Scott Seguine, and Donald Bryant. Two bands played after the stunt show. First up was Solaces End, who played till around 6PM, and then Mad Dog Radio closed out the evening around 8PM. Both bands sounded great, and put on a good show, go to see them if you can. Billy Goats supplied hot dogs for the participants, and everyone had a great time! Check out www.fullthrotlemagazine.com for all of the pics. It was an awesome day of fellowship, which was made even more poignant by the participation of Melody and Don Baylor. Melody is in stage 4B uterine cancer, which is incurable, and has the most upbeat, vibrant personality that I have ever encountered. Only 5% of patients at this stage live more than 5 years, she was diagnosed last October and still walks 3 miles a day. She finished Chemotherapy, and completed a 5-mile race while undergoing the treatment, and has all but stopped sporting the wigs donated to her by The American Cancer Society’s Wilmington office. Having her share her story, and ride along with her husband on their trike with us was an inspiration. She is so full of love and enthusiasm for riding, running, and living it amazed me. The American Cancer Society helps so many people like Melody deal with this devastating disease I was honored to play a small part in their efforts.

Welcome Home Vietnam Vets
By: Rose and Lloyd On Saturday, March 31, a long over due welcome home celebration was held for Vietnam Veterans. The USO and North Carolina Association of Broadcasters sponsored the event in conjunction with Charlotte Motor Speedway. I was among the approximately 70,000 people that attended. I have ridden in many charities and other events and will take nothing away from how good it feels to help, but nothing has touched by heart as much as this event. To walk among these men and women that served our country and see the joy and pride on their faces and hear their stories was a once in a lifetime experience. The families of the soldiers that were lost in this conflict were filled with so much gratitude to see their loved ones finally honored, and receive the respect they deserved. The American Veterans Traveling Tribute (AVTT) was brought to the speedway and put on display. For many this was their first time and maybe the only time they were able to see their family members’ or comrades’ names in this honor. For those of you that are too young to remember the Vietnam War, the conflict ended in 1973, but all soldiers were not back home until 1975. Between North and South Carolina 2508 gave their lives. This was a period of history when the draft was still in affect. Many believed the United States should not have been involved. They thought these soldiers were mostly drafted, but in reality 2/3 of those that served volunteered. There was a lot of anti war protest and a lot of unrest in United States. These soldiers would return home to be treated viciously. They were spit on and called “baby killers” and some were even attacked. Every soldier fighting for his country should be treated with respect and dignity. They are all doing a job to protect our freedom. Saturday that attitude had changed, and North Carolina being the first state to recognize these Vets celebrated their place in history and honored them for what they did for our country. Approximately 4000 bikers, such as Rolling Thunder, Patriot Guard Riders, Unknown Soldiers, Combat Vets Association, Nam Knights, Combat Vets of NC, ALR, United Riders, Buffalo Soldiers, and many individuals rode into the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the celebration of a lifetime, and showed their honor for and pride in these Vets. The Master of Ceremonies for the event was Radio and TV entertainer Rick Dees. There was exceptional entertainment by The 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band, and the 82nd Airborne Division All American Chorus. There was music provided by Rockie Lyn, George Clinton, and The Charlie Daniels Band. There were many speakers from different divisions of the military. The Golden Knights did a wonderful sky diving show, and then there was a fly over of F15 fighter jets. The ride for many started that morning around 5 am in rain,
27
but even the rain could not hold back the excitement of what turned out to be a beautiful day; beautiful not just in weather, but also in the hearts of the thousands of people that participated. Meeting and talking to these people that protected our freedom and after over 35 years finally getting the recognition and respect they deserved was awesome. I am so honored to have been a part of this event and will carry the memory of the smiles and joy in the faces, and the many stories in my heart forever. God Bless America and God bless all of our service personnel as they serve the United States Of America.

3rd Annual Don Ingerski Memorial Poker Run
By: Judy Bortz Knuckleheads Bar and Grill at 2002 Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, SC hosted its 3rd Annual Don Ingerski Memorial Poker Run. Don was a retired motorcycle policeman from VA, and good friend of owners Greg Bell and Chris Williams. Every poker run hosted by Knuckleheads is a great time, and some of the BEST runs I have ever attended. The cost for this ride was $10, which included the poker hand (winning hand got a $40 Knuckleheads gift certificate), a free drink, a raffle ticket (everyone goes home with something), and dinner at the end. Dinner was hot dogs with all the trimmings, and chicken
bog, a very good South Carolina specialty of rice, sausage, and shredded chicken that Chris made for us. It was a great way to warm up after getting sprinkled on during the last leg of the run back to Knuckleheads. The weather forecast was much worse than the actual day turned out being. I took my cage from Wilmington as it was pouring when I left, and regretted that decision all day! The only rain was at the end, and didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. About 15 bikes and 28 participants showed up for the 50-mile ride, with stops at Dirty Debs, Marlin Quay Marina Bar at Garden City (that has a spectacular view, and put out a great hot spread of snacks for all participants), and last, but not least, City Line Saloon, all great biker friendly establishments! The next event hosted by Knuckleheads is a Poker Run & Pig Roast on Saturday May 12th, Check out www.mbknuckleheads.com for details of a great way to start out the Myrtle Beach Spring Rally. Sign up will start at 1, KSU at 2. So if you’ve taken the MB Rallies off your schedule, get that bad taste outta your mouth! Come down and join Greg, Chis, and the crew for a great ride and fellowship, and find what I have, that businesses in Myrtle Beach businesses WANT bikers back, and they prove it every year!

By: Jeff Deal The Blessing Of The Bikes is an annual event held in April at MR Motorcycle in Asheville, NC to benefit homeless veterans. MR Motorcycle donated helmets, glasses, tires, and all kinds of accessories for prize drawings. The Culinary Commandos, whose training was financed thru this program, catered the BBQ. Last year, Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry raised over $3000 at this event to go toward housing and education of homeless veterans. This program helped put 302 veterans back into the work force at over $14 per hour, which generated $7,000,000 in payroll for those veterans. ABCCM’s also runs Steadfast House, an origination for women veterans returning home who need help. The Reverend Scot Rogers, the Executive Director of ABCCM, helped preside over the blessing. They have more events planed this year including a huge 4th of July Celebration at McCormick Field in downtown Asheville. If you would like to help a veteran or volunteer call Cheryl Wilson at 828-259-5300 or e-mail CWilson@ABCCM.org also check out their website at www.abccm.org.

Becky & Charles By: Raven On a Saturday afternoon in late March, the weather held off for 50 bikes to pull out of Animal’s in West Columbia, SC for a benefit ride for Charles Rose who has been struggling with stage 4 cancer. Charles managed to take the ride with the brothers and sisters, many of whom feel this could be his last ride. We hope not, but his closest friends are there when he needs to ride. His wife Becky and close friends pulled together a day with music, food, raffles, and great memories. Animal and his bar patrons put on a run to all their favorite spots for Charles to ride to and enjoy time with friends! The band All The Kings Men came out and played some oldies but goodies, and rocked the house! Thank you guys for helping out!

SPRING OPEN HOUSE • Saturday May 5th Open Sunday’s 11am-4pm By: Rose and Lloyd On February 27, 2012 the biker family lost a hero and icon to us all. Rich Brenner, former Fox 8 Sports Anchor died of a heart attack. Ironically, he died while attending the Second Annual American Red Cross “Salute to Heroes” event at the Carolina Theater in Greensboro, NC. During his career, Rich covered everything from NASCAR and the Carolina Panthers to ACC and high school sports. He retired from FOX8 in April of 2008. His network family remembers him as a mentor to all, always taking time to help and to teach in anyway he could. The biker community remembers him as the man involved in so many charities. He was presently working on a War Memorial Foundation. Serving as a Marine and then as a correspondent in Vietnam, he never forgot the sacrifices of being in the military. He was very involved in Victory Junction Camp, Operation Smile, Brenner Children’s Hospital, and many other charities. He was seen on many charity rides, and participated in many events to help make the community a better place. I, as I am sure many of you have, been on rides with Rich and I had the opportunity to be friends with him. He was an outstanding man with the biggest heart, willing to give of his time and energy for any cause. The night before his passing he and I had talked and he was going to help with Kaleb’s ride in October. He was going to ride with the group and emcee the ceremonies at Horizon House. It was such an honor to know him and he was a man that should never be forgotten.

By: Caroline Anytime you see the Harley-Davidson Demo Truck at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson you can bet folks are going to be pouring in to try the new bikes. If you have never seen how this works you are missing a treat. This year’s Spring Demo Days at Smokin’ was held on April 14-15 and the weather cooperated fully. What a beautiful day to try out that bike you always wanted to ride! And, there was no limit, you could ride any of the bikes as many times as you want! I’m not talking about riding around the parking lot either. Each trip was about 13 miles around the area on a variety of roads. By the way, I want to say the Winston-Salem HOG road captains did an excellent job of leading the riders all day Saturday and Sunday. Even taking time out from their own weekend riding to help out. Also, after picking out the bike you wanted to take home with you, set up next to the Demo Truck was Lynn Isenhour Tours ready to take you on the trip of your dreams to some of the best motorcycle destinations in the nation. There will lots more exciting events to come at Smokin’ in the months to come and don’t forget, May 5-6 is Memorial Wall Weekend. So keep watching the Cruisin’ Calendar and go by Smokin’ to see what’s new with Harley-Davidson.

Second Chances 1st Annual Motorcycle Ride
By: Midge Noble On April 14th Cox’s Harley-Davidson in Asheboro, NC was the setting for our Second Chances 1st Annual Motorcycle Ride to bolster spay/neuter efforts in Randolph County and provide therapeutic books for our kids in foster care. Twenty-eight riders lined up for an amazing ride through the country and the quaint towns of Troy, Biscoe, and Coleridge. Raffle items included a $100 tattoo gift certificate, pet pedicures, and a gift bag from the humane society. There was also a 50/50 raffle. Great food and sweets topped off the day! There’s still time to get a Tee Shirt for only $10 to commemorate the day! Contact Midge at secondchances@embarqmail. com and stay tuned to The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar, we’re doing it again next year!

By: Steve Baker Cycles 101 in Raleigh, NC held their Grand Opening on Saturday, April 7th. Owner, Louis Morrow, could not have ordered a better day. The weather was outstanding! Riders came and went all day long. While at Cycles 101 they took the time to visit and check out the goods at Cycles 101. A pig pickin’ from 1-3, cooked by Steve Hicks, captured everyone’s attention. This was just a little something from Louis to say thanks for your support. Drag Specialties was there to promote the day’s activities as well as USA Alamo Customs showing off their fancy leatherwork. Allison Hicks was the lucky one to win the Grand Prize. She is now the proud owner of a set of Rhinehart Slip-Ons. The day’s activities were also focused around the Fight Like Paxton organization. This group raises money for children with cancer. Cycles 101 will be doing a ride to benefit this organization on Saturday, June 2nd. For more information on what this organization does, please visit their website at www. fightlikepaxton.com. Please see our ad in this edition of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine or visit www.Cycles101Raleigh.com for more details. Ride safe and stop by Cycles 101 at 3125-105 Gresham Lake Road in Raleigh, NC. Tell Louis that you read about Cycles 101 in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine.

By: Pedro It’s that time of year again and the bikes are definitely out and about. On March 30th, they were rolling into Craven County Motorsports in New Bern, NC for their annual Open House and Cookout. The burgers and dogs were sizzling on the grill and the djs were spinning the tunes, making for a nice spring evening at the cycle shop. Every half hour a different section of the well-stocked Parts Department had a special, offering up to 20% off their already low prices. And if they didn’t have it in stock, you could order it and still get the savings. Door prizes, from t-shirts to key chains to various bike accessories, were given away throughout the evening. Who doesn’t like free schwag? Bikes of all types, from Hondas to Harleys, were lined up out front, while their owners enjoyed the free food and fellowship. Some were surprised to find out that CCMS services every make and model of motorcycle, despite where the bike was purchased. They also have certified dyno testing on site and can map your bike for the best possible performance. If you happened to miss this event, you should stop by Craven County Motor Sports soon and see what’s happening. They’re located at 3317-E Hwy 70 East in James City, almost right across from the fairgrounds. The riding season is here and if your bike ain’t right or needs a new look, their crew will hook you up. “For on-road, off-road, or H2O, CCMS is the place to go.” Visit: www. CravenCountyMotorsportsINC.com or call 252-638-7026 to learn more.

Lords Of Loyalty Garner NC Charity Event
Daily Drink Specials • Nightly Dinner Specials Open For Lunch At 11 Am
By: Raven Kickback Jack’s parking lot in Raleigh, NC was rockin’ on Saturday, April 14th. With a light warm breeze throughout the day it was a great day of music, vendors, and charities coming together for the Lord’s of Loyalty M/C Annual Charity Event. As they raised money for Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.), the music was playing and over a couple hundred people were having a great time. This charity is one where ALL the money goes to the children. They don’t have any paid employees. I have always supported the concept of what they do and hope more people will step up to help them raise awareness. Kickback Jack’s had plenty of good food for people to go in and enjoy on the patio and open air dining room. I think they did a great job to make a lot of money for this worthy charity. I know I am loving the pedicure raffle prize that I won. I will enjoy it! Thanks guys for putting on a great event! With very little to do on a lazy Saturday, this was the perfect way to relax and mingle with good people! For more information or donate to B.A.C.A.: http://bacaworld.org/.

Smoky Mountian Steel Horses Grand Opening
By: Anchor On April 14th I went to the Grand Opening of one of the largest motorcycle shops in western North Carolina. When I pulled into the parking lot the place was already packed. It was like this place was highly anticipated by the biking community. When entering the building you can tell that this place is not only going to be a great place to purchase motorcycles, but they have their own apparel line as well. When speaking to the new owners, they give you, through their staff and themselves and their sense of pride when you come to see them for your biking needs. You really need to see how the building has changed from its previous owners. Steel Horses also has a large mechanic’s bay that has a Harley certified mechanic on duty who has been turning wrenches for a long time. They not only work on Harleys but all makes of bikes as well. Now on to the party at hand! The place was packed with people getting the new Smoky Mountain Steel Horses shirts and parts for their rides! Riders came in and out during the 5 hour Grand Opening. At any given time you could see the parking lot was packed! BBQ by Dicky King was being served and there was a very long line that seemed to never end. Music was provided by The Sharkadelics. The music was great and they kept the people rocking! Being that this was the first main function to set the tone for the riding season they knocked it out of the park. Getting up
with old friends is always great when getting into functions like this! I can say more than a few people showed up with custom rides that they had worked on during the winter and had them completed to show off at Steel Horses. The talent that we have in the mountains is just unsurpassed! I would like to welcome Smoky Mountain Steel Horses to their new location and wish them success for many years to come! Also everyone check out their ads here in The Carolina’s Full Throttle Magazine for discounts and events that will be put on at this location. I am looking forward to seeing everyone on the road being safe and enjoying the wind, rain, heat and some cool nights on the Bike!

www.FullThrottleMagazine.com am on Sunday, March 31st. The unseasonably warm temperatures from the week before cooled down to the very comfortable low 70’s, with plenty of spring sunshine. Just perfect! I never know what the route is going to be until I show up. Even though I have lived in this area for over 50 years, James always comes up with some roads that I have never seen! We took highway 8 up to Stuart, Virginia - not a new way, but one that is scenic and a favorite for motorcyclists, nevertheless. Then back roads all way back! We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful area that seems created just for riding. When we arrived back at the shop, Jim Robinson had hotdogs and hamburgers fresh off the grill and ready to eat. As we settled back for some good food and conversation, James handed out the cash prizes to the winners of the poker run hands. I have enjoyed getting to know and become good friends with James and Jim. Not only do they are constantly trying to think of ways to show their customers how much they are appreciated, but they will also give you some of the greatest service in the area for your motorcycle maintenance needs. If you missed the 2012 spring ride, never fear, there just might be another one this fall as well as some other fun events. You will find them listed in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar. Just Hawgs is located at 5326 C Highway 311 North in Walkertown, NC. You can give them a call at 336-595-2210.

By: Molly Infield Think of this – the power of consumerism wielded by females has turned the male dominated motorcycle business pink! Well, not completely, but Harley-Davidson is one of the most progressive manufacturers that is certainly listening and responding to the requests of the lady riders like never before. One very obvious tactic is the Ladies Only Garage Party one of which was held on March 22 at Greensboro HarleyDavidson. Actually, I believe Mark Wheelihan, the owner of this dealership pioneered the concept in the Carolinas’ several years ago and has been hosting women riders and prospective riders ever since. The garage parties have steadily improved over the years and this one was the best I’ve attended yet. The group of 29 or 30 ladies was very enthusiastic and energetic, which in turn charged up the presenters. Amy Jacobson greeted the ladies and invited all to enjoy the hors d’oeuvres and soft drinks and get acquainted. Then Tony, the sales manager, explained the different families of bikes that Harley-Davidson makes and explained the attributes of the Rider’s Edge course. This course is probably the most important facet of a prospective rider’s introduction to motorcycling as is teaches you how to stay alive. Next stop, in the service department, Paul and Scott, showed the ladies how to pick up a dropped motorcycle, probably one of the most disconcerting and most feared aspects confronting a new or prospective lady rider. Paul also spent some time instructing the ladies about tire pressure, an important and often overlooked maintenance item. Back out on the showroom floor, Sharee, acknowledged expert on Harley-Davidson MotorClothes, discussed the safety features and durability of riding jackets, boots, eyewear, and the mandated helmet. She told the ladies the various elements of the riding gear as well as fit and wear ability. Speaking of fit, in the parts department, Nate and Lauren, demonstrated how to fit the motorcycle to your body by changing out handlebars, seats, pegs, and the use of lowering kits to make your dream bike fit perfectly and ride like a dream. The also showed the ladies the various ways to customize their bikes with designer chrome. It was a very interesting and informative evening and any prospective lady rider would feel comfortable returning to Greensboro Harley-Davidson confidant that the staff could help them through the process of learning to ride, purchasing a motorcycle, and outfitting themselves for the ride of their life! Hope to see you all out there!

I was asked where the name His Laboring Few came from and what it represented. Why such an odd name for a Biker Ministry? It comes from the following scripture: Therefore said He unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He would send forth laborers into His harvest. Luke 10:2 His Laboring Few is a Ministry of Laborers sent forth into His Harvest to share the truth of JESUS as Lord and Savior because of the following: World Birth/Death Rates (2012 est.)
Birth Rate
Death Rate
19 births/1,000 population
8 deaths/1,000 population
131.4 million births per year 55.3 million people die each year 360,000 births per day
151,600 people die each day
15,000 births each hour
6316 people die each hour
250 births each minute
105 people die each minute
4 births each second of every day almost 2 people die each second Average Life Expectancy at Birth is 68 years
49
Do you know you fit in one of these categories in the chart above? If you are reading this then you only fit in the left column; but one day someone else may be reading about you because you will be one of the numbers in the right column! Do you know every second counts? Two people are added to the right column every second and many of them had no idea it would happen! Yes, it’s a lot of numbers, but the totals were made up of individual people; one by one by one by one. We are excited over births and sad over deaths. We look at babies and plan for their future; we look at death and make no plans! We laugh, we cry, but still the count goes on; the totals continue to change second by second! In the next second you can change your life expectancy! Pray the Bikers Prayer on this page, mean it in your heart as you speak it out loud, and begin to live second by second by second, Eternally!

Scott Fischer Enterprises Buys Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson
Story and photo by Alan Dockery Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson, Hickory, NC, is now part of the Scott Fischer Enterprises organization. SFE owns and operates four other Harley-Davidson dealerships in Fort Myers and Naples, Florida; Huntsville, Alabama and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Riders in the Hickory area are excited about the future of Blue Ridge H-D and what SFE plans to bring to our area. “All of us in the Harley-Davidson business have the same great product line,” Scott Fischer said. “The only thing I can do to stand out is create a great experience for my customers. All I want is my customer base. If I don’t create an experience that is greater than any place they can go, then I lose those customers.” “Our focus everyday, in all five of our dealerships, is to create an experience that is above and beyond what they have experienced in other places. We work on creating an experience so that when customers leave our dealerships they say ‘Wow!’ We will create a place where people want to go and hangout with their friends.” Fischer said. Changes you will soon see are an improved customer lounge area with information, free drinks, snacks, and internet access. Outside will be more seating, TVs, and lifestyle images. Nearly all the Blue Ridge H-D staff you know is still there

and two very experienced, long-time SFE employees have joined them. Ron Hall is the new General Manager and Randy Martin is the Sales Manager. Both men plan to make the Hickory area home for a long time and have bought houses here. Stop by Blue Ridge H-D, welcome them to North Carolina and get to know these guys. One thing I noticed about the SFE leadership is they all have a long history as motorcyclists. “I’m proud to be the new General Manager here at Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson,” said Ron Hall. “I’m a rider and believe in work hard and ride hard. One thing I will bring here are events. I want to create reasons for people to ride their motorcycles. If you are not riding your motorcycle often you are not getting the entire Harley-Davidson ownership experience.” Expect to see more events here and more dealer sponsored rides. Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson will also be more involved in local events and charities. By: Crazy Lady Photos by: Biker Bob All men love to look at a woman’s breasts and all women like to show them off to some degree or another. So man or woman, whether you like to look or you like to show, PLEASE READ and make the women in your life aware. On Saturday March 24th Leather or Lace Support Group did a fundraiser for Linda Matthews. The fundraiser was held at Sharon’s Country Lounge owned by Sharon McCloud in Youngsville, NC. Many of you may know Linda. She is Mississippi’s ole lady, owner of North Raleigh Cycles. Linda was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer back in November and in one week it moved to the lymph node. Since being diagnosed she has under gone four chemo treatments. At the beginning the lump was 5cm and has only gone down to 3cm. Her last treatment is scheduled for April 2, 2012. When she goes back to her doctor she will find out if she will be able to have surgery or if she will have to endure more chemo treatments. Linda lost her medical insurance five years ago and has to travel to Henderson for her treatments. She is barely able to work a few hours depending on how she feels after having chemo. The fundraiser was a great success and $2500 was raised. They had games like corn hole, pool, darts, and horseshoes. The money was raised from a bake sale, 50/50 drawing, silent auction, and the sale of BBQ plates. Linda would like to thank everybody that came out and supported her, but she would like to give a special thanks to Sharon McCloud for having it at her bar, Dale for volunteering to come out and DJ, and Mike Sanchez for cooking the chicken. If anyone who knows Linda and did not get a chance to go or if you would like to help her out, donations can be sent to Linda Matthews, c/o Mississippi, North Raleigh Cycle, 5608 Primavera Court SteJ, Raleigh NC 27616.

By: Tony Platz, Jr. April 1st turned out to be a perfect day to ride The 10th Annual Relay For Life “Angela’s Ride”. Seeing how the car/bike show that was scheduled for the day before was canceled because of the rain. Paul (part of the CBA) Stands at the entrance of Cox’s Harley-Davidson in Asheboro, NC, waving in bikes so they can line up for the run. As the bikes start to pile in a crowd gathers at a table in front of the bikes as people sign in and grab there first few cards for the poker ride. After they get their first cards, the group collected around Cox’s Harley-Davidson telling old stories of rides and the experiences they have had over the years, as they silently bid on pottery and bought shirts for the ride as well as some tickets for a 50/50 raffle. Around 1:30 someone whistled and threw their hand up and motioned in a circle and the groups of riders started walking to their bikes. As I heard engine after engine start up, the roar seems to become one big rolling sound of thunder as the 4 cop cruisers pull out and the rest of the bikes pull out behind them. The roar seems to last about 5 minutes and as the roar quiets down and there are just a few people left behind to get things ready for when they return. As the bikes wind down the road about 50 miles they pull into a gas station to fill up, grab a drink and draw two more cards for the poker hand. Just as soon as they pulled in and filled up the pack of bikes were off once more on their way back to Cox’s HarleyDavidson. The roar starts to grow as they arrive back around three thirty. They line their bikes back up and get in line for their last cards of the day. The riders gather again for hotdogs and drinks ready to quench their hunger and thirst while they wait on the prize results. They award a plaque with a hand holding cards for the best hand and a plaque with a skunk on it for worst hand (or skunk hand as they called it). Congrats goes out to the best hand as laughter fills the air for skunked hand. Then they start to read off the names of the silent pottery action. People eat and enjoy their hot dogs as they call the two winners for the 50/50 drawing. The first comes up and takes her winnings, as she just as quickly hands it back and donates it to the ride. Cheers go out over the crowd as the second name was called and he, too, placed his winnings back into the pot. There were thank yous and smiles as they started throwing out extra T-shirts to the crowd. Then, steadily, just like it grew at the beginning, the crowed got slimmer, and bikes rolled on out. Before you knew it the parking lot was empty and every one had headed home after a 100-mile ride.

Another Finals Showing For The Ray Price Race Team The weekend of April 13th-15th, 2012, the Ray Price Race team headed to South Georgia Motorsport Park in Valdosta, GA for the Spring Manufacturers Cup. We were very excited to make it to the finals once again, two races and two finals for 2012. The Manufactures Cup Race is not like the other races we participate in because the three day event provides the opportunity for two different classes of Top Fuel Nitro drag bikes to compete in the same Top Fuel class: The supercharged injected inline four cylinder metric drag bikes and the naturally aspirated injected two cylinder HarleyDavidson bikes. Normally the two don’t complete against one another because of the greater power making capabilities of super charging vs naturally aspirated. But to help the sport and this organization, many top fuel Harley racers agreed to race along side the top fuel metric supercharged bikes. Despite finishing as runner-up, “Tommy Grimes and the Ray Price Race team really put on a performance”, said Ray Price, “we are proud of the consistent numbers we ran this weekend and feel good about the start of the 2012 season”. The Ray Price Harley-Davidson / Akea sponsored drag bike piloted by Tommy Grimes gave an outstanding run on in the first round of qualifying on Friday to post a 6.209 ET at 229.90 mph. It didn’t stop there, qualifying rounds two and three on Saturday, Grimes ran a 6.325 ET at 222.51 mph and a 6.276 ET at 235.89 mph respectively. The Ray Price Race team was one of the V-Twin Harley-Davidson Top Fuel teams competing against supercharged metric bikes going into Sunday’s eliminations as the #2 qualifier. On Sunday, Grimes continued the show delivering great consistency. In the first round Grimes brought the 1,000 horsepower Top Fuel Nitro Harley drag bike to the line and went on to win with a 6.344 ET at 228.15 mph to move the team into the semi final round. In the semi’s, Grimes ran a 6.310 ET at 233.20 mph, which was not fast enough to back up the previous 235.89 mph for a record, but enough to move the team into the finals where they would face the supercharged metric bike piloted by Larry McBride. Running our best of the weekend in the finals, Grimes running a 6.200 ET at 231.36 mph, we finished runner-up and very proud of our performance up against the supercharged bike ridden by McBride. The Ray Price Motorsports team sends sincere thanks to all their sponsors for their support. They include our Primary Sponsors: Akea, Ray Price Harley-Davidson, with special thanks to our Associate Sponsor Raleigh H.O.G. and our Support Sponsors: PJ1 Products, RC Components, CP Pistons, Royal Purple, Barnett Clutches & Cables, Autolite Sparkplugs, Mickey Thompson Tires, Gates Belts, Nationwide Insurance, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, JIMS USA, Industrial

Women Who Ride
Maureen Riedel I grew up in Orlando, FL and I wasn’t raised around motorcycles, but I always liked them. I have lived in SC for 6 years now. After my divorce was final, I asked my daughter what she would think if I bought a motorcycle and she said she just couldn’t picture me doing something like that. Well, she went to go visit friends that summer and when she came home I showed her a picture of the Sportster that I had purchased while she was away and she said “No Way” and I said “Yes Way”. I didn’t even know how to ride it, but I was bound and determined to learn how. That was 4 years ago and I no longer have the piglet, I now have a Hog. I purchased my 2008 Dyna Low Rider brand new off the showroom floor and I absolutely love it. Every chance I get, I am on it. I love the feeling you get while riding and I tell everyone that is my therapy. I am also a tiger fanatic, so when I met Ken (Griz) Decker, who is a custom painter, I asked if he could paint a tiger on my bike and he said heck yeah! I just got that done and I blinged and chromed out my bike to make it all mine. There is not another one like it anywhere. I think I am ready this year to do the Tail Of The Dragon, so that is a goal I want to accomplish. Other than that, you will see me riding it all over the place because it is in my blood now. I live to ride & ride to live!

Sacrifice For Story and photo by Alan Dockery The second weekend of April folks rode into the tiny township of Union Grove, NC, for the Spring Motorcycle Rally at Fiddler’s Grove. Usually a mellow place for old-timey music, that weekend several bands rocked the old campgrounds. Tom Stanford, Event Coordinator, found an excellent place for small motorcycle rallies at Fiddler’s Grove. The site is less than two miles from I-77, but a hundred years back in time. Soon as riders picked a camping spot, some over looking the pond, they seemed to slip into laid back party mode. Down front the Grove was rockin’ day and night. You could sit in the shade and watch the bands, laugh at us in the bike games, get something to eat and drink or challenge your buddies to a game of corn hole. A variety of vendors were at Fiddler’s Grove from Tilley Harley-Davidson to the t-shirt guy. And if you weren’t from around here, guided rides went to some cool places like Love Valley and Freeborne’s near the Blue Ridge Parkway. But Fiddler’s Grove is known for music and Tom lined up

We enjoyed a variety of music from country to jazzy blues and rock of all kinds. “I’m happy with how the Spring Rally at Fiddler’s Grove turned out. This is the first of what we hope are many successful events here,” Tom said. “Bikers and vendors came out to see what we are doing. We got lots of good comments and people want us to have more rallies.” The Fall Motorcycle Rally at Fiddler’s Grove is already scheduled for October 11 – 14. I hope to see lots of y’all there.

The Screamin’ Pig BBQ, Burgers & Wings
By: Tonya-Marie Bracken Pete Hutchings, a chef for 26 years, always aspired to have his own restaurant. After several years of working for high end resorts and large catering companies in the south he teamed up with Tonya Bracken, an experienced restaurateur who has 16 years dedicated to the industry, decided to make a dream become a reality by opening The Screamin’ Pig BBQ, Burgers and Wings. All of the meats are smoked on site, beginning with Chef Hutchings “special dry rub”. He lives by smoking everything low & slow. Since everyone has their own preference of sauce, Chef Hutchings decided to cover all the different regions of sauces; North Carolina pepper & vinegar, Kansas City tomato base with a touch of sweetness, mustard for the South Carolinian and Kickin’ & Screamin’ for the people who enjoy a hotter BBQ sauce. All of the sauces, dry rub and sides are homemade. Burgers are pattied fresh daily. The wings are unique; they are smoked, fried then tossed in your favorite homemade sauce. Another service The Screamin’ Pig offers is catering for any occasion. All menu and catering information can be found on the website at www.screaminpig.com. “COME GETCHA SOME” at The Screamin’ Pig BBQ, Burgers & Wings, 1020 Sea Mountain Highway, North Myrtle Beach, SC. Michigan Riders Win Helmet Freedom
April 13, 2012 Michigan Is Helmet Free At Last! Michigan gained freedom today when Governor Snyder signed the bill (SB291) into law (PA #98) that repeals the 37 year old mandatory helmet law. The repeal is effective immediately! Michigan joins 30 other states to allow adult choice on helmet use, toughens standards LANSING, After 46 years, Michigan now joins 30 other states in amending the mandatory helmet law in favor of adult choice. The Michigan legislature overwhelmingly approved SB 291 with broad bipartisan support, and Michigan Governor Rick Snyder signed Public Act #98 (SB 0291) into law today. The new law modernizes Michigan’s outdated mandatory helmet law, which was a holdover from bygone days leaving Michigan, in the minority one of only 20 states left enforcing an empty federal mandate. The proposal to update Michigan’s mandatory helmet law was introduced in the Senate by Senator Phil Pavlov (R) St. Clair. “Every year, millions of dollars leave our state because of Michigan’s outdated mandatory helmet law,” Pavlov said. “This bipartisan plan will keep our dollars here, attract even more tourists to Michigan and help our state in these tough economic times.” Pavlov’s bill also strengthened standards for allowing choice by mandating more stringent provisions then other helmet-free states. To ride helmet-free, motorcyclists must: * Carry at least $20,000 in additional medical insurance. * Be at least 21 years old. * Have at least two years of riding experience or undergo special safety training. “We believe that the key to motorcycle safety, accident reduction, and injury prevention lies in rider education, car driver awareness, and license endorsement,” said Jim Rhoades, Legislative Director for American Bikers Aiming Toward Education, or ABATE of Michigan. “We plan to continue providing certified motorcycle rider safety courses across the state at affordable rates so every rider can be educated before hitting the road.” The law was written with input from ABATE, a motorcycle association dedicated to improving motorcycle safety and car driver awareness of motorcyclists on the roads. The new law gives Michigan the strictest requirements for riding helmetfree of any state that has modified mandatory helmet laws for adult choice (30 states). Allowing motorcyclists to ride helmet-free could also generate more than $1 billion in direct and indirect revenue, according to a recent Michigan Consultants study. “The problem is, helmet laws have done nothing to improve safety or reduce fatalities or the cost of insurance,” said Vince Consiglio, President of ABATE of Michigan. “Motorcycle accidents are a very small percentage of accidents overall. Data from other states has proven that states that remove mandatory helmet laws do not see an increase in insurance premiums, and states that institute helmet laws do not see a corresponding decrease in insurance rates. It’s never happened. In addition,
63
the leading insurance lobbyist was videotaped testifying before a senate committee last session that residents in Michigan will not see any rate increase as a result of the passage of this bill. This is yet another reason that we garnered such a large support base from the Michigan legislature”. Consiglio also wanted to extend ABATE’s gratitude to “all of the legislative officials and Governor Rick Snyder who courageously supported freedom in the face of an onslaught of baseless and emotional arguments perpetuated by our opponents”. The Michigan Licensed Beverage Association is a statewide trade association representing bars, restaurants, convenience stores and other class C license holders that also supported a change in the law. “Every year we watch our customers ride into neighboring states and very few motorcycles ride in because of this law. Our members near the Michigan borders are ecstatic!” said Scott Ellis, the Executive Director of the MLBA. ABATE Michigan has partnered with public schools and private driving instructors to teach more than 75,000 new drivers about motorcycle awareness, using resources donated by ABATE members. Since 1975, ABATE members have lobbied legislators to modify Michigan’s outdated mandatory helmet law, which was a barrier to motorcycle tourism. At the same time, the previous law did nothing to reduce motorcycle injuries and fatalities.

The Motorcycle Community Lost A Friend By: Mark Terry Randy Wood 8/21/1962 – 3/31/2012 Many of you knew Randy Wood and many of you came out to our fundraiser, bike ride, and auction to help Randy last May at the Lone Hickory Fire Department. I’m sad to report that the members of the “Lone Hickory Faith Riders” made our last ride with Randy on Monday. Randy died early Saturday morning at Baptist Hospital from a long and hard battle with a brain tumor. He gave a good fight and made it much longer than the doctors thought he would. While it is a big loss for his family and friends, we have the joy of knowing that Randy was a Son of God, knew and loved the Lord. His faith and courage was an inspiration to us all. Monday April 2nd at 12 noon we met at Gentry Funeral Home in Yadkinville, NC to escort the hearse to the church and cemetery. One of Randy’s life long friends is a NC Highway Patrolman and he gave us a first class escort. Immediately behind him was the hearse followed by Joy Moose head of the Faith Riders in her vehicle pulling a trailer with Randy’s Harley-Davidson. There were 20 bikes following behind many riding two up for our last ride with Randy. Randy had a gift of drawing people to him. He was soft spoken, always polite, and humble. He was a true friend and would do anything for anyone whether he knew you or not. He loved to ride and his brand of choice was Harley-Davidson. He was a competitive drag racer in his Harley orange Plymouth Barracuda 440. He had an eye for collecting rare things from gas pumps, oilcans, old bibles, signs, and license plates. His real talent was in his ability to draw and paint. Some of the nicest pictures I have ever seen of motorcycles, cars, trucks, and even license plates where drawn by him. You will be missed my friend. God Bless.

The Gathering
CAROLENS OPTOMETRIC CENTER By: Wendy Rogers On March 24th, Froggy Bottoms in Fayetteville, NC, hosted the 1st Annual get together called “The Gathering”. It consisted from about 20-30 motorcycle clubs from all around Fayetteville and surrounding areas. It was basically a function that brought the sport bikes and the Harleys together. It brought the blacks and the whites together to engage in conversation and to realize that this is no black and white thing or Harley verses sport bike thing, it was about respect. These are clubs that are riding for more or less that are their hobbies, not their life. This function helped with understanding each other’s views from their own eyes. If you had questions from one another you could talk to any and all to get a better understanding and see both sides of the streets. There was no trouble and no drama. Everyone got along and had great socializing. They all have one thing in common for sure, they all like to ride and have a good time! No segregation. It’s not a black or white thing. It helped a lot with a line of communication being kind of a “Who’s Who” in the Fayetteville area. Bikers are also known for doing many charity events, because bikers have big hearts and stick together! There were T-shirts that had “The Gathering” on it and everyone got one while they lasted. There was food for everyone and the “Bob Steele Band” was playing, this band has been around a while and everybody enjoys listening to them! This event is going to be an annual event every year sometime in March, hoping to get more and more bike clubs together and really get a better closeness for bikers from all around. It will be at Poindexter’s Saloon, 115 Dunn Rd. or Froggy Bottoms, 6326 Ramsey Street in Fayetteville, NC. Watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for future events.

AUGUST 24 - SEPTEMBER 2 Redwood National Forrest Yosemite National Park • Napa Valley Lake Tahoe • Pacific Coast Hwy San Francisco • Whale Watching Aug 3rd - 12th : 72nd Sturgis SD Rally By: Steve (Riding for da Kids) Rowland Sept 14th - Sept 23rd: New England Fall Color Tour We had the best weather on April 14th for the 6th Annual Cruisin’ For St. Jude ChilOct 5th-14th: Las Vegas / Grand Canyon Tour dren’s Research Hospital event. We all met up at Beach Customs in Little River, SC. Registration was at 11am and bikes rolled out up until noon. They had set up six stops, five for the card draws, and the last for the food and the drawing of the door prizes. I usually ride to all the stops, but today I had an appointment so I missed the first couple card stops. The last stop was Jay’s in Little River. Jay and Donna and their crew put on a nice little spread of BBQ chicken, slaw, baked beans, and bread. It was pretty good after a long day of riding. I think the ride was about 100 miles long. After the meal they started to pull tickets for the door prizes. There were plenty to go around. A couple of our new advertisers had donated as well. Both Dirty Dicks and Screamin’ Pig gave two $25 dinner vouchers. Beach Customs gave away a full service for your motorcycle. I wish I had won that! There were lots of tee shirts from local restaurants. Badd Kitty gave away a few gift bags and a couple golf outings were given out as well. They really did their job getting donations. Ron Atkinson won the best prize. He received a $500 gas card from Jerry, from Beach Customs and Larry (BBQ) Jones who sold the winning ticket. Lets see, that’s about 25-30 fill ups on the old Harley. But, this time I didn’t win anything. Damn the bad luck. There were about 75 registered riders today, which netted $3350 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital today. Like I always say, that’s $3350 they didn’t have this morning. In total, Terry from Beach Customs, Jay from Jay’s of Little River, and some .com biker friends, lots of biker friends, have collected a total of $11,931 in the last six years! So a big thank you from all who need and love St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. They work closely with Rolling Thunder, who need to ride in a sponsor ride. The St Jude ride counts as a sponsor ride event. All the stops today are co-sponsors. ! s Come See U It’s a big network of people helping people. www.ClemmonsMotorcycles.com I thought the crowd was a little small today. I was expecting a couple hundred bikes. They did not have this ride in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Crusin’ Calendar and I’m sure that had some impact on the amount of bikes there. The St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital ride is very important to lots of people, and if you want more information about St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, go to www.stjude.org.

Zach & Jennifer Johnson Benefit Ride By: Caroline The Zach & Jennifer Johnson Benefit ride on Saturday, April 14th was great proof that when you need good friends, bikers are the best ones to have around. The folks at the Winston-Salem Moose Lodge stepped up to help our when the Johnsons lost everything they had in a house fire in February. Outside of the fact that this was such a serious matter, the benefit ride was one that had all the elements of a great, fun ride. About 100 bikes left out of Ted’s Famous Chicken in Winston-Salem. We rode towards Reidsville, through Guilford County, and back to the Moose Lodge in Winston-Salem. There, we were met with live music by Fat Mike and the Thermatones and food set up on their beautiful outdoor picnic area for the riders. There were raffles and drink specials to be purchased - all to help the cause. The Moose Riders also had some great help with sponsoring the event from Kendall Johnson Customs, Copperhead Graphics, and High Rollers Cycle Seats - all to make the event a success. My thanks go to the Moose Riders that invited me to come out. I enjoyed it and look forward to any rides you might have coming up.

Choice of Five Companies • Best Coverage, Best Prices
Bobby Stilwell, Judy, Junior Needham, Treasurer, Gordon Jones, & Garret Luck By: Mark Infield April 14th sure was a busy day in the motorcycle community! Randolph County CBA has been holding their swap meet early in April for as long as I can remember. For some reason, the CBA broke ranks and held the Central District CBA Spoker Run on the same day as the swap meet. Since a lot of the folks that went on the Spoker run used to come to the swap meet, the attendance suffered. It certainly wasn’t the weather that held the attendance down. Molly and I rode the back roads down to Frank And Larry’s (remember the Friday Lunch Bunch story?) for a burger and some fries before going across the road to Riders In The Country. We spent the day visiting with everyone there and we even had an ice-cold beer. We visited all the vendors and even bought a few things. They held a 50/50 and one of the vendors, Gordon Jones (Fro Do) from Winston-Salem won $129. It was probably the most money he made all day. We headed on back to High Point and called it a day. We had other plans and weren’t able to make it back down to see if there was more traffic on Sunday. I certainly hope there was. I remember when that parking lot was full of vendors and the field next door was used to park motorcycles. They have another swap meet in early November and have had real good luck with the weather then, too. Watch the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ calendar for the fall dates.

Veterans Helping Veterans Heal Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
By: Caroline It has been about 3 years since I first heard about the Veterans Helping Veterans Heal initiative to build a transitional housing project to help homeless veterans. VFW Post 1134 has worked tirelessly with the NC Housing Foundation and United Way to help make this dream a reality. On April 4th, about 100 people in the community were invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new transitional housing building. The facility will house up to 30 men that will go through a 2-year rehabilitation program in collaboration with the VA. Each Veteran will go through life skills training and participate in the daily upkeep of the facility. One of the things that so impressed me is the fact that this program will help 30-45 homeless veterans each year as well as potentially reduce the homeless population in Forsyth County by 20%. I think a program such as this is one that any community would be proud to stand behind. So many folks in the community help to make this a dream come true as well as 16 local Veteran’s organization including our own local Rolling Thunder NC 6 and American Legion, Auxiliary, and ALR from Post 55. I was so very proud to be
a part (albeit a small one) of this event and realize that even though this beautiful facility is now a reality is will take a lot of ongoing support to make it successful. If you think this is something you would like to be a part of please go to www. VHVH.org or call 336-744-1313 to find out more.

Spokes & Jokes
The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! At our house we call it “pickin” and it is symbolic of your acceptance in the group. We live in the United States Of The Offended, so get over it!!
Two 90-year-old men, Moe and Joe, have been friends all of their lives. When it’s clear that Joe is dying, Moe visits him everyday. One day, Moe says, “Joe, we both loved baseball all our lives and we played minor league ball together for so many years. Please do me one favor? When you get to Heaven, somehow, you must let me know if there’s baseball there.” Joe looks up at Moe from his death bed,” Moe, you’ve been my best friend for many years. If it’s at all possible, I’ll do this favor for you.” Shortly after that, Joe passes on. At midnight, a couple of nights later, Moe is awakened from a sound sleep by a blinding flash of white light and a voice calling out to him,” Moe. Moe.” “Who is it”? asks Moe, sitting up suddenly. “Who is it”? “Moe, it’s me, Joe.” “You’re not Joe. Joe just died.” “I’m telling you, it’s me, Joe,” insists the voice.” “Joe! Where are you”? “In Heaven,” replies Joe. “I have some good news and bad news.” “Tell me the good news first,” says Moe. “The good news,” Joe says “is that there’s baseball in Heaven. Better yet, all of our old buddies who died before us are here, too. Better than that, we’re all young again. Better still, it’s always springtime and it never rains or snows. But best of all, we play baseball all we want and we never get tired.” “That’s fantastic,” says Moe. “It’s beyond my wildest dreams! So, what’s the bad news”? “You’re pitching Tuesday.” Women always say that giving birth is way more painful than a guy getting kicked in the nuts. Here is proof that they are wrong. A year or so after giving birth, women will often say: “It might be nice to have another child”. You never hear a guy say, “I would like another kick in the nuts”. Linda Burnett, 23, a resident of San Diego, was visiting her in-laws and while there went to a nearby supermarket to pick up some groceries. Later, her husband noticed her sitting in her car in the driveway with the windows rolled up and with her eyes closed, with both hands behind the back of her head. He became concerned and walked over to the car. He noticed that Linda’s eyes were now open and she looked very strange. He asked her if she was okay, and Linda replied that she had been shot in the back of the head and had been holding her brains in for over an hour. The husband called the paramedics, who
broke into the car because the doors were locked and Linda refused to remove her hands from her head. When they finally got in, they found that Linda had a wad of bread dough on the back of her head. A Pillsbury biscuit canister had exploded from the heat, making a loud noise that sounded like a gunshot, and the wad of dough hit her in the back of her head. When she reached back to find out what it was, she felt the dough and thought it was her brains. She initially passed out, but quickly recovered. Linda is a blonde, a Democrat, and an Obama supporter, but that could all be a coincidence. The defective biscuit canister was analyzed and the expiration date was from 2008, so it was determined to be Bush’s fault.
A Mafia Godfather finds out that his bookkeeper, Guido, has cheated him out of $10,000,000. His bookkeeper is deaf which was the reason he got the job in the first place. It was assumed that Guido would hear nothing so he would not have to testify in court. When the Godfather goes to confront Guido about his missing $10 million, he takes along his lawyer who knows sign language. The Godfather tells the lawyer, “Ask him where the money is!” The lawyer, using sign language, asks Guido, “Where’s the money?” Guido signs back, “I don’t know what you are talking about.” The lawyer tells the Godfather, “He says he doesn’t know what you are talking about” The Godfather pulls out a pistol, puts it to Guido’s head and says, “Ask him again or I’ll kill him!” The lawyer signs to Guido; “He’ll kill you if you don’t tell him.” Guido trembles and signs back, “OK! You win! The money is in a brown briefcase, buried behind the shed at my cousin Bruno’s house.” The Godfather asks the lawyer, “What did he say?” The lawyer replies, “He says you don’t have the guts to pull the trigger.” When Jane initially met Tarzan in the jungle, she was attracted to him, and during her questions about his life, she asked him how he had sex. “Tarzan not know sex,” he replied. Jane explained to him what sex was. Tarzan said “Tarzan use knot hole in trunk of tree.” Horrified, Jane said, “Tarzan you have it all wrong, but I will show you how to do it properly.” She took off her clothing and lay down on the ground. “Here,” she said, pointing to her privates, “you must put it in here.” Tarzan removed his loincloth, showing Jane his considerable manhood,
stepped closer to her and kicked her in the crotch! Jane rolled around in agony for what seemed like an eternity. Eventually she managed to grasp for air and screamed, “What did you do that for?” Tarzan replied, “Check for squirrel.” Sally, Betty, and Jo Ann were all getting married. Sally and Betty were from the city, Jo Ann from the country. They met at the marriage counselor’s office to discuss the options of having or not having children right away. The counselor asked them if they planned on having a baby right away or were going to wait. All three said that they had discussed this with their potential husbands and all agreed to wait for several years. The counselor then asked Sally what type of birth control she planned to use. Her answer was, “the rhythm method.” “That will work,” said the counselor, “if you keep a good record.” He asked the Betty what system she planned on using. “I plan on using birth control pills,” she said. Again he said, “Yes that will work as long as you don’t forget to take them.” He then asked the Jo Ann what system she was planning on using. Her answer was, “The pail and saucer method.” After a short delay, he again told her that should also work. He asked them all to come back in one year on a specific date for a follow up on how things were going. They all met again one year later and Betty and Sally were pregnant. Only Jo Ann was slim and trim yet. The counselor asked Sally what method she used and what went wrong. She replied that she used the rhythm method, but somehow got her notes mixed up and, well here I am, going to have a baby. He asked the second Betty what method she used. She replied, “The birth control pill, but we were camping one weekend and I didn’t have my pills with me and as you can see, I too, am going to have a baby. He turned to Jo Ann and said, “I vaguely remember you were going to use the pail and saucer method. Now I must admit that I don’t have a clue what the pail and saucer method is. Will you explain it to me as I see it has worked well for you? Jo Ann replied, “Well, we make love standing up, and since I am quite a bit taller than my husband, he stands on a pail turned upside down. Now as we are making love, I watch his eyes, and when his eyes get as big as saucers, I kick the pail out from under him.”

Southern Roadhouse Ride For St. Jude

WE HATE FLYERS!
If You Really Want To Get The Word Out Put Your Event In The Cruisin’ Calendar By: Raven April 14th was a very busy day for events around NC. Tammy and Roger, the owners of Southern Road House in Rockingham, NC, put on their annual ride for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. It was a super event. They had an auction with amazing items to purchase, a dunk tank, food of every kind to fill up and good people to enjoy it with! The day started out with a pancake breakfast. Then 82 bikes pulled out for a long ride that ended up back to the bar for a good time! Dinner and snacks were provided late in the day as well. Raising thousands of dollars for this great cause, this small town sure steps up to the plate. Ladies Garage Party at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson By: Caroline This past Thursday evening Smokin’ Harley-Davidson brought a lot of ladies out to see what was new for women riders. I think the reason that their Garage Parties are so popular, is that Harley-Davidson has really made it a point to make sure that females have the ultimate riding experience. They are the leaders in recognizing that women are not just a market, but are riders that require different logistics. Let’s face it; on average most women are shorter and lighter than men. So, we require much different bike than men. Harley-Davidson gets it! It’s not just differences in clothing! It is so refreshing to talk to folks that understand us and try to help us find that special bike that fits us personally. When I arrived we had a short social session where we were treated to food, water, soft drinks, and also wine. Then we split up in 3 groups where we toured sales, parts, service, and MotorClothes departments. Smokin’ had a good selection of brand new bikes to look at and to see the new features that appeal to women riders. One of the highlights of the evening was getting to try out the Jump Start. The Jump Start is a V-Rod that is stationary. You can get a feel for what riding a bike is like by sitting on it, starting it up and going through the gear changes. For those who were too shy to try it that evening, you can go back and try it without the audience. For those who found a bike they think they might want, Smokin’ will be having a special upcoming event where you can test ride any bike in the store! Stay tuned for that! Last stop in MotorClothes is always a favorite and the $25 gift card drawings all evening certainly held everyone’s attention. But regardless if you won a gift card or not, everyone was a winner because we all got 20% off our purchases during the party. One of my favorite areas in the MotorClothes is the
pink collection where a portion of sales goes to the National Breast Cancer Organization. I would like to encourage all women that are interested in motorcycles, whether you ride or not to attend these Ladies Garage Parties. I promise you will enjoy it. To get information on the next one, you can get email updates by joining Smokin’s VIP club at their website www.smokinharley.com and keep an eye on The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for future dates. By: Joe Turley Each year the riding season seems to begin and end with the CBA Swap meet, but this year seemed to be a little different with all the warm weather. Nonetheless, the big show went on without a hitch. I have to admit I haven’t gone in about three years so I didn’t know what to expect and was a little surprised to find it less crowded than I remember. I was going this time as a spectator and customer and found a new way of looking at it. After attending this event twice a year for almost ten years, I was seeing a lot of the same things. Big crowds of people and tons of things to buy and ponder buying, but I was a little blind to what now is apparently the most important thing. People were meeting here to hang out, visit and talk, and meet new friends and riding buddies. You always had to twist and turn to get through the crowds and I never took the time to really look deep into many of the things this event offered. I even heard some people make the comment that it was the same show a lot of times. I have to disagree with them and myself now that I have seen it through new eyes as a consumer. Yes, the economy tanked and a lot of folks backed away from a lot of extra spending, most including myself, had no choice but realizing that the Swap Meet was growing again over last year made it very promising. I walked around this time and actually saw, even with less vendors that there are some amazing things offered at incredible prices at this show. I saw a lot more used parts in the middle open area being displayed and next door the bike show had some amazing rides to drool over. The booths were filled with vendors from across the country as well as some recognizable faces that were great to see again. I ended up buying a new leather vest at a price I couldn’t turn down. Honestly, I was concerned when I made my first round to see what was there but realizing that the spirit was still as strong as ever and the band filled the place with some rockin’ tunes all day, I knew again that this was the meet that I remembered and was here to stay! I also took some friends for their first experience of the Swap Meet and I think we have some regulars already because they were asking when the next one was so they can tell friends too. I said earlier that the economy had an impact on everyone but if we don’t do a little investing in our own community, we aren’t going to get a return. This event happens twice a year. The CBA has, for 38 years, busted their asses through thick and thin to keep it going for the community. If you think about it, the more people that attend, the more vendors and bikes will be there next time and we, as a community, can keep it the biggest thing around. So, whether you have been there before or not, mark your calendars and do like I did. Take some friends with you next time to see them be like the kids in a candy store. It will make you remember the first time you went to the CBA Swap Meet at the Metrolina Expo.

Easter Basket Ride 2012
By: Angelica Roman Saturday, April 7th, began with a slight chill as the Ladies Of Harley from the Raleigh HOG Chapter began their Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser, to benefit the various charities they support. Employees and customers eagerly lined up for the fluffy pancakes, hot sausages, coffee, and orange juice. Everyone sat at the long tables together, chatting excitedly about the Easter Basket Ride heading out later that morning. Bikers and baskets poured into the Ray Price dealership throughout the morning. The weather warmed up to a perfect 70º and sunny by the time the ride was ready to leave. More than $300 and nearly 200 baskets were donated for underprivileged children in the area. All the riders helped gather baskets donated and loaded them into a US Army truck, provided by the USO of North Carolina, and the stretch limo, provided by Logic Limo. The Raleigh Police Department Motorcycle Unit led the ride, followed by Mrs. Jean Price, her sister Judy, her daughter Robin, and the Easter Bunny riding in the limo. More than 60 bikes lined up behind the limo, including several Raleigh HOG Road Captains. Kris Weiss, Director of Marketing at Ray Price, took the lead as the air filled with the roar of engines. The ride traveled down the highway, then onto beautiful, winding country roads. Chewy the Biker Dog, dressed for the occasion in bunny ears, rode up and down beside of the group, capturing the ride on video, which you can find on his Facebook page! The ride pulled into Raleigh Christian Community, where families and children from surrounding neighborhoods were invited for an Easter egg hunt at the church, as well as face-painting and crafts provided by the USO. The children excitedly ran and jumped as the motorcycles pulled into the
festival. The riders and volunteers from the church began to hand out baskets to smiling children and grateful families. The Easter Bunny posed for pictures with the kids near the bikes. The music played over the speakers as the riders and children enjoyed all the activities provided. Many kids got to sit on a bike, and enjoyed getting to meet Chewy the Biker Dog! “[It’s a] great ride,” said one rider. “I always enjoy doing this one.” For more information on rides and activities at Ray Price, visit www.rayprice.com or become a fan at www.facebook. com/RayPriceHarley.
