The 38th Annual Charlotte CBA Fall Swap Meet And Bike Show
By: Shannon Chavis “Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends. We’re so glad you could attend. Come inside! Come Inside!” Emerson, Lake, and Palmer could very well have been thinking about the Charlotte CBA Swap Meet and Bike Show when they wrote these lyrics. Each year since the early 70’s Charlotte CBA has sponsored the Swap Meet and Bike Show. It started out as a one day bike show that has morphed into the two day old school swap meet and bike show that it is today. Along the way there have been many changes and improvements to the program. The 38th Annual Charlotte CBA Fall 2012 Swap Meet And Bike Show will be held November 10th and 11th at the Metrolina Expo Center in Charlotte, NC. The Charlotte CBA Swap Meet And Bike Show is the oldest running swap meet in the Southeast and it dominates the event landscape every March and November with its indoor bike show, vendors both indoors and outdoors, live music and its famous wet t-shirt contests. However, it is not a part of the traveling circus that comes to town on the bike show tours, here only to get the local money and hit the road to the next state. All money that you spend here at the Charlotte CBA Swap Meet And Bike Show stays local to help the Mom and Pop shops and businesses in our area and to help fund the efforts of the Concerned Bikers Association/ ABATE of North Carolina. What some people who attend the Charlotte CBA Swap Meet And Bike Show do not realize is that CBA/ABATE of NC works every day to help fellow bikers. Our mission since the beginning has been: • To form a united motorcycle riders’ organization both at the local as well as the state level. • To promote fair motorcycle legislation and to insure motorcyclists freedom by working to prevent enactment of
and to work to repeal unfair motorcycle legislation. • To work toward the elimination of prejudicial attitudes toward motorcyclists. • To promote motorcycle education and rider training programs, and public motorcycle awareness programs. • To improve the public image of motorcycling by participating in public service and charitable projects. • To foster a sense of brotherhood, sisterhood, and cooperation between all motorcyclists. In 2011, CBA/ ABATE of NC was able to work with and lobby the state legislature to get the NC Legislature to outlaw “motorcycle only” checkpoints. Anyone who has ridden down I-95 to Daytona, Florida in the last couple of years has witnessed this blatant discrimination of bikers when they were stopped in Georgia at one of their “motorcycle only” checkpoints. We were able to introduce a bill that now makes it MANDATORY that all young drivers receive one hour of motorcycle safety awareness training in driver’s education classes. Charlotte CBA members who are certified MSAP Instructors have taught over 1500 young drivers to be aware of bikers in just the first six months of 2012. These instructors take time out of their busy schedules to volunteer in the school systems to provide these classes which will pay huge dividends in the future. We were able to get “right of way” violation fines increased. Now when a cage runs you off the road or out of your lane, they can be held accountable with fines and/or jail time depending on the seriousness of the incident. So you see, when you come out to the Charlotte CBA Swap Meet And Bike Show you are doing more than just checking out the parts, toys, and hot girls in the wet t-shirt contest. You are actually putting money back into our great state and affording CBA/ABATE of NC the opportunity to fight for your rights as a biker. In the 2013 legislative session, which will begin in January 2013, CBA/ABATE of NC will attempt to get the Legislature to pass the motorcycle helmet freedom bill. Let those who ride decide! Bikers in the state of Michigan won their freedom of choice in wearing helmets and Virginia is introducing freedom of choice legislation in 2013, too. Don’t you think North Carolina We are always looking for new members to help with our fight for bikers’ rights. If you are interested in becoming a member, we would love to have you! You can contact us through the website www.charlottecba.org or visit the membership booth at the next Swap Meet. We look forward to seeing you at the 38th Annual Charlotte CBA Fall Swap Meet And Bike Show November 10th and 11th at the Metrolina Expo Center in Charlotte, NC. The admittance is $12 per day or $20 for a weekend pass. Cover Photo & Design: Justin Driscoll • http://theJustDesign.com

O
ctober already? Did you see the Blue Moon? Did you see the Harvest Moon? Did you see any other moons? Man! The weather has been nice and there have been plenty of events to attend. I love summer and riding without leather, but the crisp fall air is like free air conditioning and I love the smell of it AND leather. When you read this, the Thunder In The Smokies Fall Rally, The Capital City Bikefest and the Outer banks Fall Rally and the NC HOG Rally will be in the history books. Did you realize that ads and events that are printed in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine ARE history? This magazine is archived in 20,000 homes and businesses every month. AND if your event is not archived in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine, they may just fade away and never be seen again. The first weekend in October brings us the SC HOG Rally in North Myrtle Beach and the The Hurricane Alley Fall Rally in Myrtle Beach, which affords us a unique opportunity to experience both rallies in one week! Then there is Biketoberfest at Thunder Tower H-D and the All Harley Drag Races at Rockingham, NC the next weekend. Next there are all the Halloween Parties and rides followed by a long list of toy runs leading up to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Can you handle all that? I hope so because that’s the way we roll. Remember, you can post your charity events to the Cruisin’ Calendar 24/7 and view The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine in its entirety on line at FullThrottleMagazine.com. Check out our merchandise page for some great holiday gift ideas and visit our veteran’s page to learn how you can send free mail to deployed personnel or get a free subscription to The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine if you are deployed. Last, but not least, be sure that you are registered to vote in the upcoming presidential election. This may be the most important election in our lifetimes. I have heard a lot of bitchin’ over the past 3 ½ years, but its all in vain if you don’t pull the lever on November 6th. If you have any questions about how or where to register to vote, call us at 336-885-5400 or toll free at 888-469-5400 and we will point you in the right direction to get it done. Don’t delay because the registration period is not indefinite. Each of us has a responsibility to help chart the course of our great nation. That means YOU! God bless America.

By: Rose and LLoyd It is that time of year again. The weather is cooling now and soon the seasonal bikers will be storing their bikes away til spring. This is really the busiest time of the riding season. You have all the Breast Cancer Relays, Toys For Tots, and The Brenner Children’s Hospital ride, just to mention a few. Lloyd and I try to ride on every charity we can. Last year from October to mid December, we did 15 rides, some small and some large. This article is not to encourage you to join, but to make you aware of the men that keep us safe. We have been on several rides escorted by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department. This is a group of eight men that love to ride, but they are on these rides to get us safely to our destination. The eight men that are part of this team are: Sgt. Pharr, Dept. Casey, Corp. Leage, Sgt. Wallace, Corp. Soupdern, Dept. Apple, and Capt. Spraugan. These guys risk their lives on these rides holding, and blocking traffic no matter what weather. They give of their time to insure we are safe. They do this and enjoy it, but most times get little thanks from the riders. Our safety is their only priority. So when you see these guys at least tell them “Thank You”, or maybe buy them lunch. Many of the rides we participate in would not happen without these guys. They also offer a one-day course called Bikesafe. You can find their website at bikesafenc.com. This course is designed to help you with more safety tips and after completing you may get a decrease in your insurance. Thank you guys for all you do. I know that, I, for one, feel an added safety when I see you at a ride. My respect and prayers go out to you for all you do.

Rolling Thunder South Carolina Chapter 1 Remembers 9/11 By: Clint Reep Thousands of motorists had a clear and vivid reminder of what 9/11 means to our country today As they passed through Fort Mill, SC. Travelling north or south bound, they were able to see people on top of the bridge waving the American flag. Rolling Thunder South Carolina Chapter 1 took advantage of Tuesday, 9/11/12 as a day to remind folks that the terrorist attacks on American soil came with a great loss of life to the victims of the attacks and the first responders. As a continuation of the sacrifice made by Americans as a result of the terrorist attacks, many of those serving in the armed forces have sacrificed their lives overseas on foreign soil for our freedom. On one side of the bridge Jim Boger, a member of the Rolling Thunder SC Chapter 1 and Paul Johnson, a NYPD officer who was on the scene of Ground Zero when the towers crumbled to earth destroying everything in their path. Johnson has suffered a serious breathing problem since the 9/11 terrorists attacks as a result of breathing in the air circulating after the towers fell. Johnson is not a member of Rolling Thunder, but as he drove south on I-77 underneath the bridge of Hwy 160 he was reminded of 9/11 and the toll the aftermath of the buildings falling took on his body as he tried to serve his post as an emergency services police officer for NYPD. He had to stop and join the patriotic display and reminder that freedom is not free. On the other side of bridge
was Carol Johnson, Mike Cook, a member of Rolling Thunder SC 1, and Dave “Santa” Jordan. These patriotic freedom lovers and motorcycle enthusiasts were proud to remind motorists that the American flag stood for so much more than a prop for a political commercial. These colors and this flag represent freedom and the American way of life. I told Mike Cook that I recalled a quote from Ronald Reagan who said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction”. Cook agreed and replied, “Yes, and many want our freedoms gone forever. I can tell you, personally, I was proud to see these freedom loving Americans taking time from their day to remind us that America IS the answer. We just have to vote to remove those who create our problems. And judging by the number of people blowing horns and giving a thumbs up to the patriots proudly waving the US Flag, I think many more agree that America is still the greatest country on earth and that we are not second rate to any other nation. Rolling Thunder clearly defines their cause to never forget and always fight for our POW / MIA soldiers in their mission statement. Many have died to make me, and all of us, free and safe. Blue Moon and Boone
By: Candace, RIT The last blue moon until 2015 lit the valley where the biker community created the Boone Bike Rally on August 31st. And I do mean biker. This was not a golf cart studded event. There were few 4 wheeler and off road vehicles running around. There were bikes - many bikes. RV’s and lots of tents scattered the well-kept green camping areas. Brightly colored lights, camp fires, and even a full size LED palm tree from Sturgis lighted the way from campsite to campsite. The people who came to this valley for the weekend floated from tent to RV to tent and back around in a steady, unending stream of laughter and kindred spirits. Friday’s events began at 11am when the gates opened. Vendors and swap meet were well in swing by the time the bikes started rolling in. A guided ride through the amazing vistas of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains started with kickstands up at 1pm. Without missing a step, the entertainment kicked off at 4:30 with the sounds of the JLL Band. Opening remarks and a welcome to all those who trekked to the valley were delivered at 6:30pm and Problem Child, an AC/DC tribute band, was introduced to a pile of energized bikers who were ready to begin rallying the rally. As the Problem Child played on, the tents and campsites had the final touches put on them and the people started to settle in to the place they would call home for the next 48 hours. Dice took the stage to a crowd that was pumped up and wouldn’t give up. Well beyond the official cutoff time, Dice rocked their audience ‘til the last note was played. After the music stage closed, the campsites opened. Any genre of music could be heard flowing from each site. As unique as the inhabitants, the sites all lent themselves to being open for any company to visit at any time. And that’s just what happened! With the noise ordinance for the event being in effect, the campsites came alive and all participants became the entertainment for each other until the wee hours of the morning. Campers “talked” to each other by cranking up and getting on the throttle. Over on the far side of the field a Softail screams and then falls silent. Within a few seconds, another bike has its throttle opened wide and then silence. Again the throaty percussion of a Fat Boy roars into the crisp night, again followed by silence. Hence, the campers were sending out friendly smoke signals to the other camps via a Harley throttle. Native Americans that once wandered that same land communicated by fire. This current nomadic culture travelling on iron horses communicates by full throttle in the night air. With morning came the promise of rain. The thick fog that covered the ground in the early evening before was a signal that Mother Nature needed to let loose for a bit. The morning was cool, but warmed up quickly. As the dunking booth opened and the playing field for the adult games filled with participants and spectators, a light sprinkle relieved the strong sun that was bearing down on our skin. Toilet paper relay, tater dig, slow ride, and the all famous “see how far you can get that hot dog on the string down your throat as your man rides you bitch slowly by” game thrilled over 700 cheering fans. Heather won the tater dig and Amy won the wienie bite. The Frozen T-shirt game sounded
like a good idea in principal. Hot chicks not in wet t-shirts but frozen wet t-shirts sounded splendid on a hot North Carolina summer day. The miscalculation occurred not with freezing the shirts – they were rock solid cotton ice balls - but how to get wadded up frozen cotton t-shirts thawed enough to get them on the gals. With perseverance and many buckets of water the shirt came to rest on Penny’s lovely breasts. All were pleased with the outcome! Add in baby oil wrestling, man vs. women style, and you get a field made of biker dreams. The peak of the games was the burnout pit “all or nothing” challenge. First man up graced the crowd with thick white smoke that hung in the air and the throats of the surrounding throngs. The second man went all in and burned it til it blew. And it blew good! The third and final contestant, not to be outdone, laid down smoke on over half the field til his fat tire blew which was directly followed by flames bursting out of the engine. Game over. 3rd took 1st and got a free tire and installation from Iron Station Thunder. Lungs and eyes full of smoke and rubber, the masses made their way to the music compound to kick off the bands with Throw Down Jones at 4:30pm. Remarks from Kenny and staff about the rally and its people were met with wild enthusiasm. Part Time Blues Band kept the crowd dancing and partying til darkness fell. At 9:30pm the DB Bryant Band rocked and rolled the massed with all the southern rock favorites one could imagine while showcasing their original tunes for a welcoming audience. The organization and flow of this rally was excellent. Staff was on hand to keep everything on track and security was never issue. But all that said, this rally was about family. A friend who attended said to me, “It’s like attending a family reunion, but you are meeting your family for the first time.” He was right. All campsites were inviting and the hosts were generous and friendly every time. In the day, Boone hosted a bike rally, as explained by various bikers. However, economy and competition caused it to close. This is the 2nd year the Boone Bike Rally has been back for fall and spring. From the mood on the attendees and the vendors, this is the beginning of something beautiful – again. Keeping it real, Candace. *Jeff Winebarger contributed to this story

Justin Gypsy Work Boots – Product Review By: WildThing I have owned several pairs of Justin cowboy boots in my lifetime and love every pair. It was a no brainer when I was asked to wear and review a pair of Justin Gypsy Women’s Work boots. If you ever pull on a pair of hand made American boots, you will be spoiled forever! I eagerly opened the box and pulled on the boots the minute they arrived. My first sensation was that they fit perfectly and were lightweight. There is nothing worse than walking around in a pair of heavy clodhoppers. The shaft is only 8 tall, a little shorter than I am used to, but the deep V opening gives you plenty of space for leg movement, the shaft of the boot doesn’t have to bend when walking. I took them off for a closer inspection. They are black pebble grain leather with diamond cut pull strap. The shaft has nice pink and white flower topstitching and the foot is black pebble grain with perforated saddle vamp. The boots are waterproof and have a steel toe and shank. The insole is what Justin trademarked a “J-Flex Flexible Comfort System, a triple density insole construction that makes Justin the most comfortable boot you can wear. The outsole is oil-resistant black rubber and the tag says they are electrical hazard rated. I hope I don’t
run into any of those, but these boots are perfect for riding motorcycles. To give the boots a real test, I wore them to a motorcycle show in Durham, called the Bull City Rumble. I tell you they were so comfortable, I forgot I had them on, and I had to keep reminding myself that I was supposed to notice things about them, so I could write this review! On my bike, they were just fine, I did notice that the steel toe made it where my shifter hit farther up on my foot, but that wasn’t a problem. We walked all over Main Street looking at the bikes in the show, and still my feet were cushioned and comfortable. On the ride home it rained a little and my pant legs got wet, but my feet were dry! The Justin Boot Company began in 1879 and is headquartered in Fort Worth Texas, where they know a little about boots! This new Gypsy Work boot is a wonderful addition to their product line of hand made cowboy boots. I am absolutely sold on them and can heartily recommend them to my riding friends! Visit JustinBoots.com to find a retailer near you. Be sure to tell them that you read about Justin Gypsy Work Boots in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine.

By: Caroline Is this really the sixth year that this ride has existed? It’s not hard to believe that James Deal at Just Hawgs is still hosting this ride that so many folks look forward to every year. The ride, originally scheduled for August 19th was rained out, however, James and Jim at Just Hawgs let everyone know that the cook out was still on! About 50 of us showed up that Sunday afternoon in the pouring rain to find grilling going on and were treated to a great lunch. I don’t think that I have ever seen so many 4-wheel vehicles in the parking lot! Nevertheless, the ride went on the next Sunday. I was glad to see not only the regulars show up but some folks who came on the first ride, were there, too. In keeping with the first ride, we went on a similar route, but in reverse! Up highway 89 over to 8 then Squirrel Spur to come into Stuart, VA from the north instead of the south! Back at the shop, Jim had hotdogs and hamburgers ready and the winners of those who participated in poker hands were announced. Congratulations to Tammy Hedgecock who won $200 with the winning hand. In a side note, please remember Greg LaVoy in your prayers. He was in an accident the week after the ride. He and his wife, Jane, veterans of the first ride, came up from Charlotte to join us again. Thanks, again, to James and Jim for putting on a great, fun event. For those of you who are not familiar with the folks at Just Hawgs, they are experts in their field and would welcome your business. They also have some more fun events in the works, so watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar and check them out at 5326 Main St, Walkertown, NC or call (336) 595-2210 for information.

Billy Waldon Pittman, age 72, died Tuesday morning, August 14, 2012 at his home in Pine Level, NC. Born October 17, 1939 in Johnston County he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Harleigh Grace Chrismon and a brother-in-law, Ronnie Woodard. Billy had worked with Aycock Auto Auction, which later became Manheim, as an assistant General Manager since it’s beginning. He was a US Air Force veteran and was a life member of the VFW. Billy loved his 2007 Harley, Screaming Eagle Electra Glide Ultra Classic. With friends, Billy enjoyed riding to areas such as Gettysburg, Charleston, and day trips to the NC Beaches and he was able to tour the Harley plant in Milwaukee a few years ago. Billy’s love of riding was always evident and he passed that love on to his daughter, Brandy. Billy’s riding traditions will be carried on by the son-in-law he was so proud of, Charles and, hopefully, one day by his 3 year old grandson, Chace.

VHVH ALR Post 55 Poker Run
By: Caroline Last August 25th the American Legion Riders at Post 55 in Winston-Salem, NC held a ride for one of my favorite community projects - the Veterans Helping Veterans Heal transitional housing. This beautiful facility is now open and homeless veterans are now living there and going through the program to help them become self-sufficient members of the community. Approximately 30 bikes left the Post on Miller Street and made our way towards King and through Danbury. The last stop before ending the ride back at the Post was actually at the new housing facility. There we toured the facility and then rode back to Post 55.
Upon returning, it was discovered that the Combat Veterans Association were visiting and made a $500 donation. This turned out to be a successful event with Sam Pardon donating his best hand winnings and Rick Baker donating his 50/50 winnings. All total, $1,315 was raised. Thanks to everyone for making this a great event and to Meredy for all your work in putting this together! Be on the lookout for more events from the ALR at the Clyde Bolling Post 55 in the The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar. I know more will be coming up soon!

Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Ride By: Caroline This past Labor Day, my friends Vikki and Darrell Harley got the jump on the Christmas season by partnering with the Marine Corps Reserve to host a Toys For Tots Ride. I am sure that most of you are aware of the good work this organization has done over the years to provide Christmas cheer to needy children who might not otherwise receive anything during the holiday season. The Harleys, along with Louie Sandoval from the Marine Corps League collected four boxes of toys for this year as well as cash donations. There was a good turnout of riders that started their ride at Kevin Powell’s Motorsports in Winston-Salem and traversed 3 counties and met back at the dealership. There was food and prizes on hand for the participants with plenty of donations from sponsors: Gifts by Mia, Fox and Hound, Portrait Innovations, Domino’s Pizza, TJ X Corp, Krispy Kreme, Dunkin’ Donuts, Sophisticatering. Also, the Harleys wanted to thank K-Chele, CycleFish. com and The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine for publicizing the event. Stay tuned for more as they have another Toys For Tots Ride scheduled for October 28th. I hope that you all can make it to that one as it promises to be a worthwhile event.

Goldrush 15 By Judy Bortz GoldRush 15 was held at Pure Gold Gentlemen’s Club August 17th and 18th. The pre-party Friday night featured Total Recall and Dutch Treet playing some great sounds, and of course girls, girls, girls. The stunt shows set up the jump ramps for their show, and club staff set up the areas for the event the next day. GoldRush is a charity event and all money raised goes to Duke’s Children’s Hospital great fun for a great cause! This was one of the first events covered by Mark and Molly Infield for Full Throttle Magazine 15 years ago, so I wanted to do it proud. There are a lot of pictures in the emagazine of all the bikes, boobs, and booties on display! It was an awesome event, even in the heat (which didn’t only come from the girls!). Sign up for the bike show started at 11am, and all of the bikes entered were great. Bikes were judged by category and I am sure that picking the winners was not an easy task! Highlight for me was the 1927 Indian, that owner David Mims rode in. His second entry was another antique; this one a Honda which he also rode in, this man can wrench keeping both bikes clean and running so well. The Indian ended up winning 1st prize in its category, and Best of Show. You can see all of the entries and winning bikes on line at www.fullthrottle.com A contributor donated and old car, and you got to destroy it for 30 seconds with a five dollar donation. I took my best shots…missed a couple, but did my share of the damage done. The car was totaled by the end of the day! Bill’s Backyard BBQ and an Ice Cream truck were set up to serve food. The club set up a raffle table and sold cold drinks as well. There were some great prizes to win, including a moped. Event t-shirts were sold, and 100% of the proceeds from outside sales went to Duke’s Children’s Hospital. Pure Gold raised $2,200.00 for the hospital thanks to all of the generous people that attended! Stunt shows by Team Dane Britt, with riders Matt Pierce, Jeremy Faluso, Craig Noya, and Dane Britt were a big hit, with some smoking burnouts bringing loud whoops and cheers. ECX FMX also preformed two shows with riders Brent Schwalm, and Mad Mike FLYING through the air, and definitely WOWED the crowd for both sessions. They came all the way down from PA to showcase their and talent for the cause. Those guys were unbelievable! Check out the pictures on line, bikes in the sky, it was the best stunt show I ever saw. Club Manager Adam served as Commentator for the day; he kept the banter light and informative so that everyone knew what was going on and where! The girls from the club had a dunking booth, and bike wash going on. Both helped keep the girls cool, and the guys hot all day! There was a teenage boy there with his father who had a great time dunking the girls in the booth; I am still not sure who had more fun him or her! The bike wash not only got all the bike wet and soapy, but the girls were too, and did a great job earning donations for
Duke’s Children’s Hospital. The Biker Babe Contest ended the afternoon activities and had everyone’s attention with very beautiful contestants, all dancers at Pure Gold. The winner was announced later that evening in the club. My first time at a strip club (I have led such a sheltered life!) was loads of fun! Those dancers are very athletic, and have the most AWESOME shoes! (sorry guys it is what girls notice!) I and my friends had a great time all afternoon and evening. If you’re in the Wilmington area, and you don’t check out Pure Gold you are missing the time of your life! The beautiful and talented Savannah ended up with the title of Pure Gold Biker Babe 2012! So when you stop in congratulate her on her win! I usually end my stories with rubber side down, but for THIS event…it has to be…. BOTTOMS UP !

2012 Bull City Rumble Vintage Motorcycle/Scooter Show & Rally
By: Mark Infield I want to share a great event with you. It is called The Bull City Rumble and it is held on Labor Day weekend in the Brightleaf District in Durham, NC. This is the old tobacco warehouse district that has been converted into shops and restaurants and it is somewhat upscale, but on Main Street there is a different attitude. It is the home of some restaurants and nightclubs geared for the college crowd. The official host is The Casbah, but the rally began Friday night at the vintage pool hall The Green Room with registration around 7pm. At the Green Room guests who pre-registered were able to get their Rally packs and new rally registrations were welcomed. About 100 Rumblers were in and out of the Green Room by the time we did our city ride across town to the Motorco Music Hall at 9:00pm. At Motorco, in the newly revitalized NoCo District of Durham, approximately 250 Rumblers were there to enjoy the bikes of Ton Up NC display in the “Garage Stage/Bar” which included club members’ vintage Triumphs, Nortons, a collection of BSA’s, a Bultaco dirt bike and was topped off with a 1951 Vincent Black Shadow. In addition to the show, a classically styled country band played in the main music hall. Saturday started out with breakfast at Parker & Otis, a restaurant and specialty food store located in historic downtown Durham followed by the main event at 1:30pm on three blocks of a closed Main Street. The street was lined on both sides with nearly 500 (465 was the last count) rare vintage and modern retro motorcycles, cafe racers, and scooters from manufacturers all over the world. Four to five thousand people visited the event throughout the afternoon. People walked up and down Main Street looking at all the bikes and browsing through the restaurants and pubs. The Casbah, The Federal, Rainbow Chinese Restaurant, James Joyce’s Pub, Devine’s Sports Corner & Grill, Alivia’s Diner, Satisfaction Restaurant, and Taverna Nikos, not to mention the ones in Brightleaf Square offered food and beverages as well as air conditioning if you needed a break. There were vendors in the parking lot above The Casbah and some out in the street. You could get an event T-shirt and a real cool event poster at the Ton-up NC tent. There were tech sessions at James Joyce’s about how to lace and true a wheel by Beezalex and another later in the afternoon by Dave from Combustion Cycles and then it was back to The Casbah for the auction and awards. At 4:30pm Crispy Bess treated the crowd to Jimmie Hen-
drix’s version of the Star Spangled Banner on an electric squeeze box (http://youtu.be/ wN_ea4aiqjM), Raffle prizes were drawn, and Bike Show awards were presented. Pat McGraw of Ton-up North Carolina said, “Voting and selection was purely subjective and based on no actual criteria other than we know what we like. We appreciate bikes that are ridden often. Trailer queens never win awards at our shows. We like ‘em a little dirty.” Here’s how it went. Stripped Sprocket Award (for the bike ridden furthest to the show): Ranger Novrit rode 500+ miles from New Jersey. Best Modern / Retro: Philly Scott for his 1993 Moto Guzzi 1000S. Best Japanese: Warren Nasoh for his 1967 Kawasaki W-1. Best European: Phil Gilsdorf for his 1949 BMW R35. Best British: 1975 Norton Commando 920. Owner unknown. Best Scooter: Bill Scalione for his 1960 Heinkel Tourist. Best Competition / Race bike: David Anderson for his 1979 Triumph Bonneville T-140 land speed racer. Best in Show: Les Josey for his 1962 BSA Rocket Gold Star. At 5pm the music and burlesque program began with the rockabilly stylings of The Jimmy Tremor Three, The Swang Bros., The Straight 8’s and the show concluded with rockers, American Speedway. Burlesque was performed between each band and included performances by included Selia d’Katzmeow, Dolly Dee, Cherry Von Bomb and Jolly Roger. Approximately 250 - 300 guests attended the music and burlesque show. I couldn’t stay this year, but all reports indicate it was a blast. All proceeds from the days’ events was donated to Preservation Durham, a local nonprofit group whose mission is to protect Durham’s historic assets through Action, Advocacy, and Education. Sunday, the final rally day, included a Rumble Breakfast at James Joyce Pub at 9:30 and was followed by a 50 mile country ride on some of central NC’s best roads lead by the local cafe racer enthusiast group, Do The Ton Triangle (DoTheTonTriangle.com). Approximately 50 people attended the breakfast and approximately 40 participated in the country ride. The Rumble concluded with lunch and beers at The Federal. The 9th Annual Bull City Rumble is scheduled for Labor Day weekend, August 30 -September 1, 2013. I really like this event and I suspect that you would, too. I hope to see you there next year. By: Denice Patterson Tom Hunter, a 70-year old retired homicide investigator from Ocean Isle Beach completed the grueling 2012 Hoka Hey Challenge. Tom learned about the Hoka Hey while reading about it in The Carolina’s Full Throttle Magazine. Hunter decided to enter the challenge to raise money for Hope Harbor Home, a domestic violence shelter in Brunswick County, NC. In 1996 Hunter joined the board of Hope Harbor Home and has been involved ever since. The shelter opened in 1986 and is funded mainly through grants, an annual golf fundraiser, and money generated from its four thrift stores located in Holden Beach, Leland, Oak Island, and Bolivia, NC. The private, nonprofit agency is a tax-exempt 501(c) 3 corporation. Donations to Hope Harbor for Tom’s ride in the Hoka Hey Challenge have been a much needed blessing this year with over $1,000 and counting as the money continues to come in. Tom considers himself a long-distance rider, logging over 150,000 miles to date. He is a charter member of the Harley Owners Group at Beach House Harley-Davidson in Shallotte. “The folks there really helped me before the race,” he says. Jeff Ryan, James Knight, Bobby Collis, and Randy Patterson tuned his bike and gave him helpful tips for the ride. This year is the third year for the Hoka Hey, which was created to bring awareness to the plight of Native Americans around the country, especially those on the Pine Ridge Reservation who live in below poverty conditions. At the starting line in Las Vegas on August 5th, ninety-one riders embarked on the eight-day journey around the United States. The route was designed to ride through as many Indian Reservations and National Parks as possible. The finish line was located in the heart of Seneca Nation at Wolf’s Run in Western New York. On day eight, riders were given a fourteen hour window to cross the finish line. Only 31 riders finished in the allotted time, and Tom was among this group, finishing within the last four hours of the window. The riders stopped only to sleep or gas up, and most rode up to 20 hours per day to make it to the finish. They didn’t even stop for meals. “We ate beef jerky and protein bars as we rode,” Hunter says. His wife Marie also packed some almonds in snack bags for his trip. He wore a flashlight around his neck to see the route directions that he taped to his gas tank, and rigged a plywood brace to hold him on his bike as he slept reclined on the seat for a few hours at a time. In June 2013 the Hoka Hey Challenge will enter its fourth and last year. The number four is sacred to the Lakota. It represents the fulfillment of a dream. Tom is still recovering from the 9,800 mile journey, so he won’t say yet whether he will ride next year. But for those who know Tom Hunter, the odds are in favor of this man from Carolina riding in the Hoka Hey one last time. For more information about the Hoka Hey Challenge, visit HokaHeyChallenge.com. 3rd Annual We Ride For Those Who Can’t Remembrance Run
Jim Hollister, President, RT Chapter 1 NC On Saturday, September 1st, Rolling Thunder Chapter 1 NC held their 3rd Annual “We Ride For Those Who Can’t” Remembrance Run at Hotrodz of Fayetteville. How did it go? I’m glad you asked! The day started early for chapter members who were put to work directing bikes to parking and setting up for the day’s activities. While registration wasn’t supposed to start until 9:00am, folks were showing up prior to that to get signed up. While only in its third year, this ride has grown in popularity and people want to be a part of it. We hold our Remembrance Ride each year to raise funds for The Ride Home. Held in Americus, Georgia over the POWMIA Recognition Day weekend, Rolling Thunder Chapters join forces to host this event to honor and pay tribute to our nation’s ex-Prisoners of War. Oftentimes held in deplorable conditions for months or even years, they survived due to their training, their faith, and a desire to return home to their families and country. We also take time to remember our nation’s missing, those yet to return home, and invite the family members of those MIAs to join us as well. As guests of Rolling Thunder, they incur no lodging expenses, are provided transportation to all events once there, and are treated to a Heroes Banquet in their honor. Since there are several ex-POWs who live in the Fayetteville area, we provide safe and comfortable transportation for them to and from the event as well. At 10:15am, even while bikes continued to arrive, we paused for a short ceremony. Rolling Thunder Chapter 1 NC vice president Barbra Corbett explained to the crowd on hand the mission of Rolling Thunder, which is to educate the public on the POW-MIA issue and to remind them, and our government, that there are still over 80,000 Americans who have yet to return home from all past wars. She went on to remember Staff Sergeant Ben Pasley, a member of the chapter who passed away recently in a motorcycle accident. Ben was really looking forward to this year’s event, and I know every member of our chapter rode for him as well as our nation’s missing. The raising of a new POW-MIA flag and the Pledge of Allegiance followed. When it was time to go, officers from the Fayetteville Police Department made sure that we were able to navigate through town safely. On down the road, the Sampson County Sheriff’s Department took over to lead the way. Coming back into Fayetteville, the FPD picked us up again and led us down Hay Street and to the North Carolina Veterans Park. Hearing the rumble of the bikes, and getting some insider information from our intrepid photographers, people came out of the shops to watch and wave. We stopped at the NC Veterans Park for another ceremony and there could be no better place than this beautiful park dedicated to our veterans. If you have not visited yet, you owe it to yourself to make the trip.
One of the first orders of business was to introduce our special guests, dear friends of Rolling Thunder Chapter 1 NC and some of our biggest supporters: Mr. Maurice Braswell, held as a POW during WWII Mr. John Mims, held as a POW during WWII and Bataan Death March Survivor. Mr. Jake Roth, held as a POW during the Korean War Mr. Bill Richardson, held as a POW during the Korean War Mr. Ray Schrump, held as a POW during the Vietnam War Mr. Rudy Hernandez, Medal of Honor recipient from the Korean War The primary purpose of the ceremony was simple: to visually remind everyone of the more than 80,000 American servicemen still listed as missing and have yet to return home. Sadly, there are many who do not know that: From WWI – over 3,000 remain missing today. From WWII – over 73,000 remain missing today. From Korea – 7,959 remain missing today. From Vietnam – 1,660 remain missing today. From the Cold War – 125 remain missing today. From Afghanistan – 1 remains missing today. Rolling Thunder Chapter 1 NC members conducted the Missing Man Table Ceremony, which pays tribute to our nation’s missing and symbolizes that while they cannot be with us physically, they are always with us in spirit. The message is quite clear when you look at the table, the service caps placed on the plates, the glasses inverted, the chairs all empty. No one would be sitting at that table. There can be no doubt that at the 3rd Annual “We Ride For Those Who Can’t Remembrance Run” the watchwords of Rolling Thunder – We Will Never Forget – were amplified and spoken in both action and word thanks to all of those in attendance. Please remember that we must all take it upon ourselves to never forget those Americans whose fate remains unknown. For as long as we remember, they remain alive and with us in our hearts and in our memories, and as long as they remain alive within us, there is hope.

Forsyth County Sheriff’s Special Olympics Poker Run
By: Caroline Even though all North Carolina law enforcement supports Special Olympics, I particularly like to go on this ride they have every year. This year’s ride was on Saturday, August 18, and started out from Smokin’ Harley-Davidson in WinstonSalem, NC. The HOG Chapter, led by Don Adams, was the driving force that made this ride successful. However, the great guys with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department did an awesome job of escorting us. One of the features of this ride is that the route takes us through every township and community in Forsyth County which I thought was a fitting tribute to a great group of men and women who love bikers and riding. They use that to their advantage to raise funds for a great cause and this year’s total came to $1,500. Dick Hughes held the winning the best hand. I also want to say a special thanks to Sheriff Schatzman who served as Master of Ceremonies, and met the riders over at the Lewisville - Clemmons Fire Station, where he and his crew grilled hot dogs for lunch. If you missed this year’s ride, be sure and come out next year. They always have it around August, so be sure to check The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for dates and times.

4th Annual Ruby Bash Rally
By: Anchor The 4th Annual Ruby Bash Rally was held on August 24-25 at the Rose Creek Campground, which is normally a place for people to go and just relax and enjoy some of the peaceful settings in the mountains. But once the motorcycles pulled in that peacefulness came to a screeching halt. Vendors playing music, bands playing music, and bikes rumbling in the field signaled that this Ruby Bash was starting to kick in. We pulled up to the main gate on Friday afternoon where several vendors were already setup and everybody was already starting to enjoy the foods and the camaraderie. Listening to the two person band “Zorki” got everybody in the mood for “Faded Wreckage” that was to play that evening. Several games were set up to keep us busy including a bull ride and even a bicycle that would drive you nuts. It was invented by one of the event promoters, Ronnie Smith. It kinda gave your mind an interesting way of looking how to steer it. He let everybody give it a test for the main run on Saturday. On Saturday they had several different events including a tattoo competition with two different categories. Best black and grey tattoo went to Mike Hanley, and the most creative went to Kelly Plohm. The other event was the bike show. There were four categories. Custom went to John McCully, Mark Stanfield won Cruiser, the Metric winner was Terra Rice, and Best In Show went to John Wolf.
Despite the rain we also had a Toys For Tots poker run sponsored by the Marine Corps Reserves. The toys that were brought in for the run are going to go to local children here in Macon County. Now, most people who know me know that I’m not much of a country music fan, but that changed a little bit when we finally got to hear Hoss Howard. They pumped up the crowd with a great mixture of country and rock music. During one of the band’s breaks, the promoters of the rally, Ronnie and Karen did the drawings for all the awesome gifts and gift certificates that were donated from all the local businesses. C. J. Hensley won the main drawing for the rifle. At the end of the show Hoss Howard invited Ronnie and Karen back up on stage for one last dance of the evening and before this took place, as a surprise to everyone, Ronnie got down on one knee and asked his love, Karen, to be his wife. Of course, she said, “Yes”! Now, despite the rain and a little confusion on where the rally was going to be held, the turnout was still great! The promoters of this rally are already looking forward to next year’s 5th Annual Ruby Bash Rally and they ask for everyone to watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for the dates. Look for the pictures of this event www. .00 FullThrottleMagazine.com. Until then, ride safe and enjoy the freedom of the road!

L-R Chaya Holt, Kenneth Roberts, Michael Abernathy, Robert Abernathy. Kneeling: Dennis Grigg coordinator of the Catawba County Shrine Club’s Poker Run. Story and photo by Alan Dockery The second Sunday of September was clear and cool for the 10th Annual Catawba County Shrine Club’s Poker Run. After a long, hot summer it was nice to have a cool and comfortable day to ride. About 200 bikes gathered that morning at Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson for the ride through Catawba and Lincoln Counties. Bikers ended the ride at the Shrine Club in Newton. As folks turned in their hands, the Shrine Club served all the riders and volunteers BBQ. Outside DJ “Doc Hollywood” Crump played music for the folks hanging in the parking lot. As folks finished eating we headed outside for a bunch of door prizes. There are still some furniture factories in our area and they donated some nice pieces as prizes. This is a poker run I’ve participated in all ten years since several of us locals helped start it. This annual poker run has become one of the major fundraisers that the Catawba County Shrine Club holds throughout the year to support the Shriners Burn Hospital in Greenville, SC. The winning hands went to: Best Hand $500: Robert Abernathy. 2nd Best $250: Kenneth Roberts, 3rd Best $150: Chaya Holt. Bill Martin won $100 for the Worst Hand. Debbie Veaunt won $220 in the 50/50 drawing. Dennis Grigg coordinated the poker run and said, “This was one of the prettiest days we’ve had since we started this poker run. Thank you to everyone who showed up for the ride and the folks who helped put it on. Thanks also to the local merchants who donated door prizes and to all the sponsors who donated money for advertisement of their companies on our T-Shirts.” “I hope everyone enjoyed the poker run since we took a different route than usual, visiting some different places. I wanted to share with them the joy we have of riding together for a good cause.”

Under A Blue Moon Labor Day Luau At Riders’ Roost Story and photo by Alan Dockery Labor Day weekend spotty showers threatened, but didn’t keep a bunch of \bikers from heading to Riders’ Roost for the Annual Luau Party. By Friday evening the prime camping spots were filling with tents and folks were catching up with friends. I love sitting around the campfire, enjoying a few cold ones, and sampling some stronger drinks. That evening we hung out in the game room as Dave played some tunes for us to sing and dance to. Luckily, it was a crystal clear night and we were treated to a Blue Moon. It rose huge and bright over the Roost and we howled loud “Wooos” at the moon. Saturday was a beautiful late summer day. Folks who live down there in the flatlands took off to ride the mountains. Some came back a little wet, but still smiling since riding a motorcycle in the mountains is about as good as Carolina life gets. I like to fish for a while in the morning and spend the afternoon sitting in the creek. About the time we would have been sending someone to the camp for more beer, it came up a little rainstorm. No big deal. It was an opportunity for folks to “check the tent for leaks” while stretched out on the air mattress for an hour. I gotta give big props to a couple of my fishin’ buddies. If we had a Riders’ Roost fishing tournament this summer, I would have finished third place behind Teresa and Trish. Even late in the summer, Teresa pulled out another big bass. It tasted real good, too.
Saturday afternoon, Tim and those guys from across the mountains started roasting a whole pig for the luau. They worked on it all afternoon and way into the night. That evening the band PeacePipe rocked The Roost. Since rain threatened, they set up in the pavilion and we sat around outside. PeacePipe rocked the place so hard that the rain stayed away. I like this band because they play some new rock and their own songs are about ridin’ and drinkin’. Sunday evening the weekend wound down with the Luau. Folks were dressing up in beach clothes and piggin’ out for supper. Join us at the coolest place in the mountains, Rider’s Roost on Oct. 26-27 for the Halloween Party. Visit RidersRoost.com for more information.

7th Annual Thunder At The Rock
By: Randy Smith As we gathered together at The Rock Church at 416 W. King Street in King, NC on August 28th, we watched the motorcycles roll in! We had riders from all around. They rode in on old, and new bikes of all kinds. How good it was to see everyone. What a day! God blessed us with beautiful weather. Thanks to everyone who helped decorate, prepare meals, and welcome all who showed up. This year the ride took us to Stone Mountain State Park. As we rolled up and down the hills, every bike rider had smiles. The scenes, smells, and landscape is what every rider likes to experience. Thank you guys for being with us, and helping us bring 24, brothers and sisters to Jesus Christ! The worship service was on fire for our Lord! Thanks for the drama on rapture “When The Unseen Becomes Reality”. You know this is just one day out of 365, but the ones who come also realize that we ride through out the year. Bikers, if you left hungry, if the food didn’t fill your belly,

Gone But Never Forgotten! st
By: Robert Slack On Friday August 10, 2012 the Lord chose to take our brother and friend Joe “Joey” Cook home to be with him. Joey lived in Archdale, NC and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed working with his hands and fixing things no matter what it was. For 30 years He made his living driving a truck for Harris Teeter. Joey loved to ride his motorcycle. He and his wife, Glenda, would take trips on his bike every chance they got. On Tuesday, August 14th several of his friends rode their bikes in his funeral to honor him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Brother Joey, keep your face in the wind until we all meet again.

Bull Dog Heroes Recap
By: Mark Infield Bob Karney, Carolinas Biker Lawyer™, and his wife, Ginger, were discussing how much the motorcycle community contributes to their respective towns and cities and the fact that, for the most part, they go un noticed. This led them to dream into existence the Bull Dog Hero Awards. On August 25th we attended the presentation of the Bull Dog Heroes Awards, a direct result of their dream and commitment to the motorcycle community.
The original plan was to present awards to 5 finalists and make donations to each of their charities of choice, but due to Bob’s respect and generosity, and an overwhelming response, he extended it to 6 finalists. The Bull Dog Hero Of The Year, Joe “Trouble” Messina garnered a $1000 donation for his charity of choice, Guardians of the Children. The other 5 finalists were that were deemed BULLDOG HEROES received $500 for their charities. In no certain order they are: Raymond “Road Rider” Horwath for his work with the Patriot Guard, MDA, CMA, Rolling Thunder, Red Knights, and too many others to list here, Dolanne Fye, founder of Riders Fighting Breast Cancer, Mickey “Bear” Carter, founder of Bikers for Bikers Foundation, Monty Fuchs, founder of Biker Down WNC, and Gene “Wolf” Barrett, founder of Sons of Soldiers. As if that weren’t enough, then Bob recognized the other 20 nominees by donating $200 to each of their charities of choice. I consider all of these and many of you out there great examples of the antithesis of the stereotype hung on bikers (and lawyers) by many un enlightened citizens. God bless you all.

It’s Personal
By: Amanda Fye With partners like Levine Cancer Center and Charlotte Radiology it’s hard to deny the impact that a group like Riders Fighting Breast Cancer is able to make. The first breast cancer non-profit of its kind in Charlotte, R.F.B.C.’s goal is to make direct donations to the local community. They found success in their first fundraising project with Levine Cancer Center - a toiletries drive for local survivors that was promoted by Creative Loafing and local businesses generous enough to act as drop locations. R.F.B.C.’s most recent project found them hosting a wildly successful event at Easy Eddie’s Motorcycle & Lounge which featured live music, raffles, local artists and vendors, and a women’s bike show. The event raised $800 towards R.F.B.C.’s goal of $5,000 to donate breast cancer screenings to 30 local women chosen by Charlotte Radiology. R.F.B.C. is driven by personal experience and inspired by Rose Foster, who lost her life to Breast Cancer in 1978. She left behind two sons and four daughters. The youngest of all her siblings, Dolanne Fye, lost her father at age eleven then her mother, Rose, at fourteen. Almost three decades later, her older sister Charlene Hammond officially became a double-mastectomy survivor. Dolanne established R.F.B.C. in October 2011 to help local Charlotte women experiencing what her mother and sister
have gone through, and to make a difference for an issue that hits close to home. A poker run is the next big thing for the R.F.B.C. and shortly after they will be hosting their biggest event yet just in time for breast cancer awareness month. Freeborne’s Eatery & Lodge in Laurel Springs, NC is holding a weekend long festival October 20-21 with more music, raffles, games, and another poker run. There are endless ways to get involved or donate! Please visit: www. RidersFightingBC.com or: Facebook.com/RidersFightingBreastCancer. There is merchandise like t-shirts and art for sale, and there is always something right around the corner for this passionate group.

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! At our house we call it “pickin” and it is symbolic of your acceptance in the group. We live in the United States Of The Offended, so get over it!!
A cop is staking out the Killarney Hotel for bikers riding drunk. At closing time, he sees a biker stumble out of the bar, trip on the curb, and fumble for his keys for five minutes. When he finally gets on the bike, it takes him another five minutes to get the key in the ignition. Meanwhile, everybody else leaves the bar and rides off. When he finally pulls away, the cop is waiting for him, pulls him over, and gives him a Breathalyzer test. The test shows he has a blood alcohol level of 0.0. The cop says, “How is this possible?” The guy laughs and says, “Tonight I’m the designated decoy.”
The nun asked, “Do you have money in the bank?” He replied, “No money in the bank.” “Do you have a relative who could help you with the payments?” asked the irritated nun. He said, “I only have a spinster sister, and she is a nun.” The nun became agitated and announced loudly, “Nuns are not spinsters! Nuns are married to God.” The patient replied, “Perfect. Send the bill to my brother-in-law.”

I found a note on the fridge this morning from the wife. It said. “This isn’t working, I can’t take it anymore!! Gone to stay with my Mother” I opened the fridge, the light came on and the beer was cold.........What the hell is she talking about? A man, having been turned away at the Pearly Gates, was nonetheless grinning from ear to ear. Upon being asked about his inappropriate demeanor, he explained, “Saint Peter said that I was being refused because I knowingly voted for candidates who support abortion, assisted suicide, and embryonic stem cell research.” But then I realized, “Hey! I might be six feet under but, thanks to ACORN, I can continue to vote for those same candidates again, and again, and again”. Because I’m a man, and this is, after all, the year 2012, I will share equally in the housework. You just do the laundry, the cooking, the cleaning, the vacuuming, and the dishes, and I’ll do the rest. Like wandering around in the garden with a beer wondering what to do. This has been a public service message for women to better understand men
prepare to leave. While out there it started raining a torrential downpour. There was snow mixed with the rain and the wind is blowing at 30 mph. He comes back into the house and turns the TV to the Weather Channel. From there he finds it’s going to be bad weather all day long. So he puts his bike back into the garage and comes back inside. He quietly undresses and slips back into bed where he cuddles up to his wife’s back, and whispers, “The weather out there is terrible.” To which she replies, “Can you believe my stupid husband is out riding his bike today?”
The pastor of this Baptist church had called all of the little children dressed in their cute Easter outfits to the front of the church, and had them sit around him. He said, “Today is Easter and you all look so handsome and beautiful. Today we’re going to talk about the resurrection. Does anyone know what the resurrection is?” One little boy raised his hand, and the pastor said, “Please tell us what the resurrection is”. The boy, proud that he knew the answer, said in a loud, clear voice, “When you get one lasting more than four hours, you gotta call a doctor!” It took a solid 10 minutes before the pastor could speak and there was so much laughter going on that his sermon was probably forgotten - but that little boy’s voice won’t be. A blonde was weed-eating her yard and accidentally cut off the tail of her cat which was hiding in the grass. She rushed her cat, along with the tail over to Wal-Mart! Why Wal-Mart? Hellooooooooo!? Wal-Mart is the largest retailer in the world! A man suffered a serious heart attack while shopping in a store. The store clerks called 911 when they saw him collapse to the floor. The paramedics rushed the man to the nearest hospital where he had emergency openheart bypass surgery. He awakened from the surgery to find himself in the care of nuns at the Catholic Hospital he was taken to. A nun was seated next to his bed holding a clipboard loaded with several forms, and a pen. She asked him how he was going to pay for his treatment. “Do you have health insurance?” she asked. He replied in a raspy voice, “No health insurance.”
Two guys are drinking in a bar. One says, “Did you know that elks have sex 10 to 15 times a night?” “Aw Crap!” says his friend, “and I just joined the VFW!” A blonde wanted to go ice fishing. She’d read many books on the subject, and finally getting all the necessary tools together, she made for the ice. After positioning her comfy footstool, she started to make a circular cut in the ice. Suddenly, from the sky, a voice boomed, “There are no fish under the ice!” Startled, the blonde moved further down the ice, poured a thermos of cappuccino, and began to cut yet another hole. Again from the heavens the voice bellowed, “There are no fish under the ice!” The blonde, now worried, moved away, clear down to the opposite end of the ice. She set up her stool once more and tried again t o cut her hole. The voice came once more, “There are no fish under the ice!” She stopped, looked skyward and said, “Is that you lord?” The voice replied, “No, this is the manager of the hockey rink!”

There’s a fellow who is an avid rider. Actually he’s a motorcycle fanatic. He has not missed a weekend of motorcycle riding in years. Every Saturday and Sunday morning he gets up very early and goes to meet his buddies for a nice long ride. On this one morning, he gets up early, dresses quietly, gets his riding gear out of the closet, and goes out to the garage to
A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake him at 5 AM for an early morning business flight. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, “Please wake me at 5 AM”. He left it where he knew she would find it. The next morning, the man woke up, only to discover it was 9 AM and he had missed his flight. Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn’t wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, “It is 5 AM. Wake up.”

HLF Biker Family Campout Bike Games
7th Annual Charity Poker Run
DOORPRIZES
By: Papa Jim Everhart (CBA and Retreads) Davidson County CBA/ABATE of NC and the Lexington Area NC Retreads had a wonderful time hosting the bike games at the His Laboring Few Biker Ministry’s Annual Labor Day Biker Family Campout at Denton Farm Park in Denton, NC on September 1st. The weather stirred up some black clouds and the rain held off through four of the games. We were fortunate enough to get through the U-Turn Box, Slow Race, Tennis Ball Cone Set, and DOTS (Bean Bag Toss). The rain started at the beginning of the offset weave ring toss. We had a couple of brave souls attempt it as per Mark Hucks, “We are already wet. However the field was too wet to continue safely. And of course it clears up after about 30 minutes later with full sun again. This year’s winners of the games were: U-Turn Box: “Grizz Todd, Slow Race: David Burnette, Tennis Ball Cone Set: “Grizz and Nancy Todd (4 balls, 1 cone down) Mark and Ann Hucks (all 10 balls with a foot down), Bean Bag Toss: Mark and Ann Hucks, “Look Twice Save a Life Sign Drawings: Harley Hucks, Mark Hucks, and Nancy Todd. Mama Sue and I wish to thank Gail and Sidney Staley (NC Retreads) and our niece, Misty Fain, for helping prep the range for the games, setting cones, and helping to monitor the games. Thanks to our great-nephew, little Dylan Fain, and to Sid and Gail’s grandson, Sidney Monroe, who helped fill the water balloons and learned how to toss them as well! The participants and spectators, as well as those of us who set up the games had a good time. We look forward to doing this again next year.

I know its October and I should be writing something about Halloween with spooks and goblins and ghosts. Only kooks believe in spooks, but Wikipedia says “goblins have been classified as constantly annoying little creatures” so they must be real because I know some of them! And there is only one Ghost and He is the Holy Ghost! Now that we have covered Halloween, October has a different meaning for me personally. On October 20th, 2010 I had open heart surgery, and I guess you can tell since I’m writing this that it was successful. But the success isn’t so much in the operation but in life afterward! Honestly, if I didn’t see the scar down my chest I would have a hard time believing it even happened, even though I had what is called “The Widowmaker” that only about 2% survive. Yes, I am very thankful for all the doctors and nurses involved and especially for all the prayers that were prayed but I thank the Lord for my life right now. Ya see, He didn’t stop the operation from happening but He gave life more abundantly afterward. He always has a plan for afterward! John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. So, all you may be going through; health issues, money issues, people issues, issue issues, all things no matter what it is, can be better afterward if you will put your trust (faith) in Jesus! Then one day, after this time on earth is finished, He will
say to you “well done thou good and faithful servant……” Matthew 25:21. I didn’t want heart surgery, nor any other problems we all face; but these things happen every day. It’s how we come through them that matter, that’s the success of life! Pray the Biker’s Prayer on this page, mean it in your Heart, and allow Jesus to begin the process of Life more abundantly and look forward to Afterward! And BOO! Happy Halloween.

compete in strength and endurance. The stunts she does are not something you can just get up and try! She pulled a 25,000 pound Peterbilt truck 50’ in 35 seconds, and also holds records in weight lifting. Originally from California, she now calls Fayetteville, NC her home, and works as a medical technician there. It was a fun event and if you get the chance to see her in action, it is definitely worth the time. She is a petite powerhouse, who strives to break her own records in everything she attempts. By: Judy Bortz On August 25th Juli “The Dare Factor” Moody established a world record at Britt Motorsports in Wilmington, NC. She claims to be America’s strongest woman and took on 2 Harley-Davidson Road Kings at full throttle and held them tight for over a minute. The two Harleys, manned by Chase Hedrick and Jimmy Spark, co owners of Rock Star Hair & Tattoo Lounge, went full out on this stunt. One of the bikes blew a back tire spitting rubber. Juli was engulfed in smoke and pelted with bits of rubber as the Harleys burned up the asphalt. Along with The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine, Inside Edition and a European biker magazine also covered Juli’s establishing the world record. This stunt has never been done by a woman before, so any amount of time would have been a record. You can view the event by going to http://youtu. be/c1QscK2CBVY or scanning this QR code with your smart phone. Juli held 3 practice sessions before the actual event and broke her own record each time. By holding the bikes in place for more than a minute, Juli beat the standing record of 40 seconds held by a male counterpart! It was funny how many guys in the crowd said things like “I could do that if a girl can”. Get Real! This woman has been training for over 15 years to be able to

Steele Angels 8th Annual Back To School Party
By Wendy Rogers AKA “Breezy” This year the Steele Angels Back to School Event was a little bit different. It was just a get together and a semi party and not a ride. It was held at the Dog House in Fayetteville on August 25th. They had food, 50/50, door prizes, and great socializing. Even though it was not an escorted ride, the mission was still accomplished! Riders came by and dropped school supplies off or made a donation. The Steele Angels presented the money and supplies to the Cumberland County Board of Education on September 6th. The money will be put into an account and will be used for emergencies such as when a kid wants to go on a field trip and the parent didn’t provide money to go. No kids need to be left behind.
Totally Committed Ministries
The Steele Angels were one of the founding groups that started such a thing as gathering school supplies and helping the school systems out. They got something started and now many organizations are doing this same type of event, which it is very much needed. Kids are going to be our future one day and it is sad to say how much they are neglected in this manner. There are several homeless children and very needy children, right here in our own community that the average person is not even aware of. Until you get involved with charities and really find out the true colors of your community, you just don’t have a clue. So, that is the reason it means so much to the great people in our community that come together and help those in need. I want to thank all of our sponsors and most of all I want to thank the people that come and support, because if it weren’t for the participators, it would not be happening! The Steele Angels will be having their “TOY RUN” in November. However, it will not be the Saturday before Thanksgiving like it has been for the last 8 years. But it will still be in November. Watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine for the time and place of the event. We are looking forward to many to come, so we can help lots of children and give them “Santa Clause”! Because helping kids is what it’s all about, and no matter what tries to get in our way, the Steele Angels will figure out a way to still accomplish what needs to be done. Because the Steele Angels are for sure all the about the children!

By: Lincoln Infield I was very attached to my old riding boots, they had been everywhere with me for the last decade. I was reluctant to look at another brand of boots, but when presented with the Justin Stampede Work Boots, there was no reason not to give ‘em a shot! First off, what a great looking boot! The Stampede features an 11” black oiled upper with western stitching and a black oiled lower with a perferated saddle vamp, round steel toe and steel shank. The insole is the J-Flex flexible comfort system, and the outsole features stampede rubber and EVA combination. The Stampede Work Boots are electrical hazard rated. I slipped these boots on with ease. The durable, light weight construction of this boot was evident right away! They broke in quickly and are all day comfortable on all kinds of different surfaces. The Stampede Work Boots are waterproof, a feature that provides peace of mind for getting stuck riding in the rain or trudging through soggy ground at rallies. I have been wearing my Justin Stampede Work Boots daily for weeks now and they have really performed for me. Keeping your feet dry and comfortable is a big deal, and these boots will do just that. In short, the Justin Stampede work boot looks great, feels great, and works hard. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for a great boot to consider the Justin Stampede Work Boot. Visit JustinBoots.com to find a retailer near you. Be sure to tell them that you read about Justin Stampede Work Boots in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine.

By: Steve (Back Pack Buddy) Rowland Who knew that in 2012 we would still have children that go to school everyday, get breakfast and lunch, then go home to no food. On the weekends, some go hungry. I found some people who care enough, to help out: The Back Pack Buddies. Well, I went to a BBQ fundraiser that Rolling Thunder 3 had put together. There wasn’t a ride set up to the event, but everyone met up at Boulineau’s Hardware about 10:30 for the POW/MIA Flag raising. It was real nice. I was honored to be part of this for the first time. I noticed how much the vets are appreciated here in SC. There is lots of stuff going on just about every weekend for our vets. Today’s fundraiser is Help 4 The Kids - Back Pack Buddies. The mission is simple. That no child should have to walk into their classroom and feel ashamed of their clothes, shoes, or lack of everyday school supplies, and that children don’t go hungry on weekends. They also make sure the needy kids receive a cake and present on their birthday and Christmas gift for them and their family. Rolling Thunder always gives 100% when the put on a fundraiser. Larry had his famous BBQ chicken, homemade potato salad, beans, and bread. He had lots of help cooking. They had a whole production line getting the people fed. They had pre sold a bunch of tickets. I saw several people picking up orders to go, one guy had 21 plates to go. Some local businesses showed up to get some food for their employees, and to help out. The employees at Boulineau’s all ate well, too. Beach Customs had their Saturday ride and it ended up here with about 20 riders. Terry (owner) always supports local events and businesses on his weekly rides. They raised over $2300 for the day. It was a good day for the kids. Like I always say its $2300 they didn’t have this morning. There were several hundred people that came by today. I took plenty of pictures, so, go to www.FullThrottleMagazine. com and check em out. You can download any of them for free. Ride Safe.

Everybody Has One
Do You Want Your Voice To Be Heard?
By: Molly Infield It’s on TV, in the newspapers, and certainly all over the Internet. Politics is everywhere. When I was brought up there were subjects we were taught that were certain to cause dissention in any gathering, whether it be a sporting event, birthday party, or church activity and those subjects were politics and religion! Well, I am not here to talk about either subject, except to firmly state that I believe every American needs to take responsibility and participate in the election process. Every American has the right to vote guaranteed by our Constitution and our armed forces, but along with that right comes the responsibility to inform oneself of the issues and perform the civic duty of voting every time the polls are open. We are fast approaching a very important election, that of the office of the President of the United States to guide our nation for the next four years. Do you know what else is on the ballot in your state and county? Since all laws, referendums, and elected officials affect our daily lives, I sure want to have a say. I want to be counted. For years I have served my county as a precinct worker on Election Day. And as I look over the registration lists I think that if all the registered voters in my precinct came in on Election Day to vote, we would be swamped! It would be awesome to have that kind of voter turnout. One of the biggest things we deal with is folks that have moved and their registration address is in error or they have not voted in a long time and they are not listed as current voters in my precinct. It is time now to make
sure you are properly registered at your current address so that you can vote in the correct precinct on November 6. Everyone has to register to vote on Election Day. In North Carolina you need to register by October 12, which is 25 days prior to Election Day. Early Voting runs from October 18 through November 3 at selected locations, or you can contact your local Board of Elections and request an Absentee Ballot by the last Tuesday before the election. The Absentee Ballot must be returned by 5 pm the day before Election Day by mail or in person. Check out how to do this at: www.NCSBE.gov or call the Board of Elections in your county for more information. Registration to vote on Election Day closes 30 days prior to the election in South Carolina, the last day being October 6. Every county has a Board of Elections office you can contact or you can go online to: www.SCVotes.org to check out all the information you will need to get registered and get information on procedures for in person and absentee voting by mail if you cannot go to the polls on November 6.

The Ray Price Race Team Report
CRAZY SHOTS
C AB s All rmit Pe
The win in Mission, Canada gave the Ray Price Race Team two in a row! Then off to Woodburn, Oregon for the AHDRA Woodburn Northwest Nitro Nationals hoping for a third! The Ray Price Race Team is excited to announce that the weekend of August 18th and 19th they had another successful weekend. During the Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association (CMDRA) 2012 Edition of the Summer Nationals at Mission Raceway Park, Mission, Canada, in back to back races the team takes the win and landed the number one qualifying position! It’s a long haul to the western side of Canada but the 1,000 horsepower Top Fuel Nitro Harley drag bike (Akea Express), piloted by Tommy Grimes, put on another great show. Qualifying in the number one spot with a 6.422 ET at 226.41 mph, is off to a great start. During elimination round one, Grimes ran an impressive 6.504 ET at 216.24 mph and clinched a position in the semifinals. Jumping right into the semi’s, the Ray Price Race Team wasn’t ready to call it a day running a 6.538 ET at 219.45 mph to move them into the finals. Paired with Canadian Damian Cownden, Cownden redlights, which gives Grimes the win, but Tommy Grimes ran a very impressive pass. The Akea Express is off of the line with a 0.055 light, running a 6.522 ET at 213.87 mph. In Woodburn, Oregon, August 25th and 26th the Top Fuel field was impressive. With thirteen bikes rallying for the eight open positions, the Akea Express lands the number three qualifying position. “We were faced with some transmission issues, Oct 7th something we 7th Annual WidowMaker Poker run just couldn’t over come” said Ray Oct 21st Price, “so we gave 1st Annual Donnie Watson it our all, but it just Keeping The Name wasn’t enough.” On The Race Car Tommy Grimes Memorial Run 2pm qualifying rounds are as follows: Q1 th 6.681 ET at 210.32 mph, Q2 6.674 ET Big Daddy And The Diamond Edge Band, at 212.61 mph, Q3 Costume Contest 1st, 2nd, 3rd $$$. 6.712 ET at 211.96 $ 4 well drinks. transmission problems, had hoped for a better outcome but unable to pull off the win with a run of 6.745 ET at 210.97 mph. On September 8 - 9, the Ray Price Race Team lands another #1 qualifying spot at Numidia (PA) Raceway and continues to show strong in the points standing in the AHDRA/Screamin’ Eagle Championship Series. With 11 Top Fuel Harleys competing for the 8 qualifying spots, the 1,000 horsepower Ray Price Top Fuel Nitro Harley drag bike (Akea Express), piloted by Tommy Grimes, ran 2 solid qualifying passes in the very tight field. On Saturday, Grimes ran his best pass of the weekend with a solid 6.293 ET at 227.11 mph. As a strong storm rolled into the area, qualifying rounds were held up and eventually the race day came to an end because of the rain with plans to get another round of qualifying in Sunday morning. Sunday’s weather was a huge improvement from Saturday, but proved to be a bit challenging as the sun and clouds kept swapping spots. But this didn’t stop the Akea Express from running an impressive 6.420 ET at 218.34 mph to wrap up qualifying. Headed immediately into elimination rounds, the Ray Price Race Team was paired with Dean Comunal. Running competitively, Grimes moves the team into the next round with the win running a 6.486 ET at 226.47 mph against Deans 6.637 ET at 200.38 mph. Faced with a few track delays and the sun shining bright, track conditions changed after setting the tune in the pit. In the second round the Top Fuel Nitro Harley spun the tire at the 1000’ mark and was unable to move into the finals. “That’s racing,” said Ray Price “All the top fuelers were faced with the same track conditions and we put too much in it. Our team is very competitive and we continue to push the limits at every race”. Although a disappointing finish, the team plans to give a great performance as the Akea Express / Ray Price Racing team races at their home track October 13 - 14 at Rockingham, North Carolina. Look for them as they compete in the Jim McClure Nitro Nationals presented by Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association. “One Call Does It All”
Since 1980
By: Judy Bortz When the Wilmington Chapter of Pure Platinum Motorcycle Club was looking for a charity to sponsor they contacted United Way, who hooked them up with Bikers For Education and ultimately DC Virgo Preparatory Academy. The school had been closed down for the past 2 years because of attendance issues, and is opening for the 2012-13 school year as a test site. The new Principal, Eric Irizarry, handpicked the 20+ new staff members who will be taking on this challenge. DC Virgo Preparatory Academy is a middle school on Nixon Street in Wilmington and for this school year will be starting out with just the 6th grade. New policies have been established that include uniforms for the kids. The school provided 2 uniforms for each of the 120 new 6th graders, and they went into the backpacks along with the school supplies donated by Pure Platinum Motorcycle Club. PPMC held fund raisers and solicited sponsors and donations to raise money for the purchase of 120 book bags, notebooks, pens, pencils, and other items to start the students out on the right track. All totaled they raised over $700 in support of Bikers For Education. Wilmington Chapter President Reggie Pickett was very excited about the ongoing partnership with the school, and all of the club members are getting involved. Principal Irizarry has invited PPMC to be a real presence at all of the school functions, and together he and PPMC are planning a mentoring program for the kids. PPMC wants to show the kids firsthand the importance of education, and they put their time and love out there to do it. They want to help these kids rise above the circumstances in their lives and grow up confident in their ability to deal with anything life may throw at them Wilmington Chapter of PPMC does a lot for the community. They are involved with Outside The Walls Mentoring Program, donate their time to feeding the homeless, volunteer at local shelters, and giving gift baskets of food and presents to needy families at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Motorcycle Clubs are not gangs and Wilmington Chapter of PPMC goes a long way to prove that to the community every day! These club members step up and make a difference not only in the lives of their brothers and sisters, but to everyone that needs a helping hand! Kudos to Pure Platinum Motorcycle Club for all that you do. Thank You!

The Annual Calvin E. Taylor Memorial Toy Ride
By: Jeff Deal The annual Calvin E. Taylor Memorial Toy Ride was held Saturday, September 8th in Western North Carolina. The ride is in memory of all fallen North Carolina officers and emergency personnel. It is named for Trooper Calvin E. Taylor, who started the ride with fellow troopers and members of his Masonic Lodge to collect toys to be given to children involved in crashes and at hospital emergency rooms. Taylor died in 2001 when he was hit by a tractor-trailer while conducting a traffic stop in Haywood County. Gene Canter always does a good job organizing the ride that starts from three locations, Asheville, Waynesville, and Sylva and ends at
the Stomping Grounds in Maggie Valley. This is the eleventh year for the ride and it has raised over $60,000. Money donated helps provide scholarships for law enforcement training and the toys collected goes to kids in need in Western North Carolina. At the end of the ride there is food, prizes and for this year’s 50/50 tickets, $20 would get you enough tickets to stretch for the entire length of your bike. This ride has become a tradition for a lot of the riders and its all for a great cause.
