was recently reminded that August 30th was the 10th anniversary of the death of Indian Larry DeSmedt. We were at the Liquid Steel event at the Cabarrus Arena in Concord, North Carolina, on Saturday, August 28, 2004. Indian Larry was standing on the seat of his motorcycle performing stunts for the crowd when something went wrong and he fell off the bike and hit his head on the pavement. He was airlifted to the hospital in Charlotte, where he died on Monday, August 30, 2004. He was 55 years old. It was a somber afternoon waiting to hear any news of his condition. Confederate Railroad entertained a sparse crowd later that evening and we returned home without knowing until Monday that Indian Larry had died. “Indian Larry Legacy” was formed in 2004 to keep Indian Larry’s memory alive. It was composed of 4 friends and partners of Indian Larry: Paul Cox, Keino Sasaki, and Bobby and Elisa Seeger. In 2008, they all branched out to follow various independent pursuits in the motorcycle industry. Elisa and Bobby Seeger now own and operate Indian Larry Motorcycles. In September we pause to remember September 11, 2001, a day when the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda launched four coordinated attacks killing almost 3,000 people, changing America forever. In 2012, on the anniversary of 9/11, Islamic militants attacked the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, killing US Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and US Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith. A second assault targeted a different compound, killing two CIA contractors, Tyrone S. Woods and Glen Doherty. Ten others were also injured in the attacks. Without getting into the political aspect of these events, we honor those who died, in the service of our country, or needlessly at the hands of terrorists. If you noticed, we have dedicated the top band on our September covers to their memories. Pray for our leaders and our troops as we deal with serious situations around the world. God bless the USA!

10th Annual Sunday Bash Story and photo by Alan Dockery I love a good bash just for the fun of it. Ten years ago, Tilley Harley-Davidson, Statesville, NC, employee Ronnie Carver thought that was a good idea too. On July 20th hundreds of us showed him how much we appreciate his idea at the 10th Annual Sunday Afternoon Bash. It was a nice day, not as hot as July can be, and the rain held off until late that afternoon. After seeing some old friends and making some new ones, I didn’t mind getting wet riding home. Glad to see lots of motorcycles and riders at Tilley’s for all that was going on. The proceeds from the Sunday Bash go to the Victory Junction Gang Camp. Inside there were great deals on bikes, accessories, and clothes. Don rolled out some of his cool antique and race motorcycles for us to checkout. The PartTime Blues Band was cranking out tunes on the side of the building. Lancaster’s Hawg Trawgh Saloon was serving up barbeque. There were plenty of cold beverages to wash down lunch. The big tent and lots of tables and chairs gave us a place to kick back in the shade with our friends. Ronnie’s Bike Show featured some cool machines. This year winners were: 1st Place - Sherri Holden, from Newton, with her 2009 Deluxe Trike; 2nd Place - Todd Upright, Salisbury, When It Comes To Your Bike, Insurance Coverage Is Personal. It’s the difference between a phone call to an answering system when you need to make a claim and a one-to-one conversation with someone who cares about your bike as much as you do. At Encore Insurance Advisors, we can help you find the coverage you need, from insurance on your accessories to roadside assistance, and our service is always personal, friendly and knowledgeable. Before you take to the road, call Encore. We can protect your bike, and your assets, with the most competitive products available from the most reputable providers, including: Foremost • Assurant Specialty • National General • Progressive • Titan

2008 Electra Glide; 3rd Place - Hank Powell, Troutman, 2007 Softail Custom. Netausha Myers took Best Of Show with a 2001 Fat Boy. Ronnie said thanks to all the people who turned out to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Sunday Bash. The HOG chapter and Rolling Thunder were there all day doing lots of jobs. Lancaster’s BBQ provided the food and beverages. The Bob Karney calendar girls were at Tilley’s signing autographs and some girls from Lake Norman Hooters were doing a bike wash and selling Hooters gear. Anna’s Sweets was serving fresh fruit drinks while 48 Customs was busy much of the day laying down some classic pin striping on bikes. Tilley’s Insurance was onsite. C Your Photos was shooting everyone as they rode in. “A big thanks to Don and Robinette Tilley for letting us have this party for the past ten years,” Ronnie said. “I’ll keep doing this as long as I’m able.” Don and Robinette said, “The weather held out and the crowd came in. Looked like everyone had a good time. We appreciate their support and glad to see lots of riders from out of town here today. Thanks to our employees for helping out and the H.O.G. chapter too. After 44 years in business, it is great to see this many people turn out to support the Sunday Bash.” There are more images of the 10th Annual Summer Bash on our website FullThrottleMagazine.com. Christmas In July For Wreaths Across America By: Meredith Wisniewski It was “Christmas in July” on the 19th of July when the newly established Forgotten Sons MC Charter of Clemmons, NC kicked off their very first charity at 1 pm in the Baggerz Saloon parking lot. The day was dedicated to Wreaths Across America (www.WreathsAcrossAmerica.org) whose mission coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies every December in Arlington National Cemetery, as well as veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond. The night before the event welcoming hugs and cold beer were given to those road weary riders who had traveled from VA, MD, SC, GA, and eastern NC to show support and continued on to the next day when the local bikers and friends arrived for the cause. Despite the weather the crowd was more than happy to put on their boogie shoes in the rain to the Dam Fi No band. There was plenty of BBQ, coleslaw and all those delicious southern dishes to hit the spot and as more joined in on the fun door prizes were given away. Winners walked away with over $2000 in donated prizes including helmets, tees, tattoo gift certificates, knives, and even spa massage gift certificates for the ladies. The donated amount to be given to Wreaths Across America came in right around $1500 and one of the five creators behind the benefit said, “The support from

near and far was truly heartwarming. The charter felt unbelievably blessed with support in the fight for veterans causes.” A special thanks to Ken, Pam, Jennifer, Spencer, Karen, David, the Brothers, all who attended and “Whiskey Mike.” The event was somewhat of a dual charity that brought a big smile to Michael Stokes face as he claimed his new AK 47, which he won by buying a raffle ticket to benefit Pets For Vets. Pets For Vets is dedicated to providing a second chance for shelter pets by rescuing, training, and pairing them with America’s veterans who could benefit from having a companion animal.

Zip It and Go

By: Rick Gammons The Editor at The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine asked me about my sunglasses some time ago. I showed him and he handed me a strange looking cable device for glasses. He said, Try this out and write me a review”, so here it is. Cablz Zipz is an adjustable eyewear retainer. The major difference between Cablz and other types of eyewear is a coated cable (or monofilament for fisherpersons). Cablz also uses a ball bearing system to hold it in place. Other retainers are usually cloth or other types of fabric. These eventually will fail at holding glasses in place. They also hold sweat and other more disgusting fluids. Ron Williams, creator of Cablz, designed this retainer out of necessity. When leaving a hospital where he serves as a medical equipment supplier, the strap on his sunglasses snagged, pulling the sunglasses across his face. He nearly wrecked. Throwing the glasses across the car, they landed on a spool of steel cable surgeons use to secure fractures. It was an “aha” moment. He held up the cable where it remained suspended in air. And Cablz was to soon follow. Williams used the same type cable with a silicone coating

to keep from hair pulling. A ball bearing grommet makes the cable adjustable and easy to fold without kinking. The cable reduces the chance of snagging and practically eliminates weight. It also does away with that sweat factor. I have been wearing a Cablz Zipz for six weeks. Everything stated in the brochure is correct. It will stay off your neck and it will not allow smells or moisture to get attached to it. Now, I do fish and if I adjust it after handling a fish, I just wash it off in the creek, shake it and put my glasses back on. I zip it back up to the back of my head and it remains there until I loosen it. My hair is a lot longer than it used to be, touching my back. This does present a small problem. I have to pull my hair back and then pull the hair on the sides out from underneath. It keeps you from getting unsolicited laughter because you look the Red Baron. When I ride, I use a “shorty” helmet. The Zipz sets just below the bottom of it. I do not know what issues a full helmet might present, but I have always found a way to work through any of the minor problems it might present. So, the Cablz Zipz will stay off your neck, is adjustable, snag proof, good for all activities and uses the ball bearing system for a secure fit. Cost - $15. Deal or dud? ...... DEAL!

4th Annual Patriot Rovers Ride For The Fallen

By: Buzz Patriot Rovers is a nonprofit 501(c) 3 that provides canine therapy using trained Psychiatric Service Dogs for military veterans who suffer from PTSD and/or Traumatic Brain Injury. The program is FREE for veterans. Patriot Rovers is committed to acquiring, housing, nurturing, rehabilitating, vaccinating, spaying, neutering, training, and socializing dogs in order to qualify them as Psychiatric Service Dogs that will perform medical alert and response in addition to specific tasks for veterans. Training of the dogs is first performed on a basic level and then moves towards customized training focused on socialization and performance of specific tasks. This training is vital in order to ensure the dog is fit and ready to perform all assistance required of a Psychiatric Service Dog. They train all dogs to perform specific tasks under the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). These tasks include, but are not limited to, brace, get help, lights, doors, pull, dress, retrieve, reverse – all standard service dog tasks. Additional Psychiatric Service Dog tasks include medical alert and response, tactile stimulation, alerting, interrupting, stabilizing, calming, waking, initiate activity, initiate interpersonal interaction, and the creation of personal space. Additional non-task functions include providing a veteran with constant 24-hour reassuring, unconditional love and companionship. Extensive training is provided to the veteran in basic dog care, dog behavior, and other handling skills before the dog is released into their care. In addition to training these wonderful dogs to assist veterans, Patriot Rovers name the dogs after fallen soldiers with the help of Gold Star Families. Not only are the rovers helping our veterans through their every day tasks, they are also honoring those who have fallen. Patriot Rovers has place 70+ service dogs to date with veterans. Did I mention that this service is FREE for veterans? I have had the opportunity to meet a few of the Rovers and the Veterans they assist at passed Patriot Rover events. The veterans all commend their furry companions for enhancing their life and helping them get through their day-to-day routines. One of many testimonials on the Patriot Rovers website reads: “My dog does everything with me and helps me be able to do things with my girls that I couldn’t do before. Simple things, like go to a restaurant or the store. I can take part in their lives now.” - Keith Harrison & Elliott. This is a truly amazing program. Check out their webpage at www. PatriotRovers.org to read more about the program and the testimonials. Saturday, July 19th, the 4th Annual Patriot Rovers Ride For The Fallen staged at Crescent Ford in High Point, NC. A dreary, misty morning and a good chance of rain annihilated what should have been a full parking lot of riders for this cause. 40 bikes, mostly two-up sat in staggered formation at ride time. The riders were all supplied with biscuits and then some pre-ride suggestions before we hit the road. The police escorted ride was a great back roads ride up to the foothills of

Madison, NC. We took a break at the half way point to stretch our legs and for the bikes with smaller tanks to refill on gas. The weather had improved and the day was gorgeous sunny day. No excuse for the fair weather riders! The ride ended at Greensboro Harley-Davidson’s Motorcycle Park with Donnaha Station Band cranking out some great tunes. Chunk’s Hawg Haven, located at the motorcycle park, was slinging beers and the Patriot Rover family and friends were serving up hot dogs and hamburgers. The Patriot Rovers organization is in need of your support. As I mentioned before in this article, this service is FREE for veterans and has solid results of helping our Veterans who suffer from PTSD. Take a moment to check out their website at www.PatriotRovers.org and if possible click the red “Donate” button and help keep this worthy service going.

By: Danny Gaynor A few weeks ago, a memorial service was held for a dear friend of mine. He died from an accident while riding a motorcycle. He was a top notched mechanic and knew Harleys from Knuckleheads to Twin Cams. His skills and knowledge kept other people riding and enjoying what we love doing most, experiencing life on our bikes. His service was on 6/7/14. Though several of us from places far wide were not physically be able to make it, we did take time to think of him and his family. We all know that at any time, each one of us could be taking our last ride. We understand that, but the feeling of freedom and the air rushing across us is too tantalizing to give up. Sure, we know the risk, but this is the life we choose. The archetype of the biker is still the same. We live our life based on a code that we live our own lives on what we believe as individuals and respect the way others live, even if we do not agree with them. We are the blue-collar workers that work hard, play hard, and most of all, love hard. We are true to our family and friends. We would lie down and die for our brother as he would for us. We might not be able to afford the latest “must have” bike, but we will damn sure keep our outdated bike going with each other’s help. We are not the guys that consider a Saturday ride to the local dealership as a fun ride. We do not need the Factory Class on how to be Today’s Biker! Oh no, it’s the adventure of a new road with a couple of friends that leads to the Blue Ridge Parkway! Your breath being taken away when you crest a peak of a mountain on a fall day and the colors exploding beneath you that no painter or photographer can truly capture, the smell of the sea as you near the Mann’s Harbor Bridge and the view of rising sun as you cross the sound. For many of us, it is the closest we will ever feel to God and our bike is the Apostle of that God! It you understand what I have written, then please take time to honor my friend and all the people who have gone down doing what we love!

12th Anniversary Christmas In July 2014 By: Kelly Wescott What has 259 motorcycles, 7 Corvettes, and a Santa? Christmas in July’s 12th Anniversary, of course! Held every year on the third Saturday of July, Christmas in July has grown enormously every year. With 2 days of fun, music, good food, prizes and lots of donations to Dukes Children’s Hospital, Christmas in July has attracted people from nearby states who return year after year. This year, we kicked off with a Kick Start Party at Legends Pub in Fayetteville on Friday the 18th of July. Holly and her girls fed us a great spread of BBQ with all the fixin’s including a yummy spicy slaw, beans, potato salad, green beans, and more. Pre-registration was the order of the night, and also collecting toys to donate to the hospital. At the end of the evening, we had 164 bikes pre-registered, which looked to be a good start! Saturday, July 19th was a cool morning, which was a welcome relief, as it is usually in the 90’s. We headed to M & M Leather/Victory Of Fayetteville to continue the party. More registrations, an auction, and a 50/50 started the day. The largest item, a handmade, wooden Rockin’ Harley was auctioned off for $800! It is a piece of artwork to see if you ever get the chance. It is gorgeous! This Harley has a plaque remembering Bill Matthews, part owner of Victory of Fayetteville and M&M Leather and Custom Cycles, who passed away earlier

this year. Bill and his wife, Mary, have been huge supporters of Christmas in July throughout the years. Other auction items included different artworks and leather, with all monies going to the hospital. After a safety briefing by the Cumberland Co. Sheriff’s Department and a short prayer, it was 10 am, and kickstands up, everyone start your engines! The Cape Fear Team Corvette Club of Fayetteville led the parade with 7 Corvettes, followed by a trailer from Parrot Bay Pools filled with toys. Bringing up the rear were 259 motorcycles. What a sight! All makes and models, including a 1943 military Harley, dressed out in Army green complete with canteen and rifle scabbard! We had trikes and bikes of all models. We had returning friends from Virginia, (17 of them!) and new friends the Blue Knights from South Carolina law enforcement. We had the Borinqueneers, The Southern Cruisers and 15 members of the Chrome Knights returning. We had the Souls of Service from Lee County, returning friends from the Buffalo Soldiers of Fayetteville, who brought their brothers, the Buffalo Soldiers of Raleigh. Yes, they rode from Raleigh, to return to Durham, back to Fayetteville, then returning to Raleigh, all for a great cause. We saw the Band of Brothers of Mosul Iraq, the Cape Fear Harley Owners Group (HOG Chapter) and new friends from Gourd Springs Baptist Church. We thank you all, because without the riders, there would not be a ride! The Cumberland Co. Sherriff’s Dept. accompanied us and assisted in holding traffic so we could all ride together. It is quite an undertaking, as we have riders from out of town and state who may not know where they are going, staying together is paramount for safety. We crossed into Harnett County with their Sheriff’s Department assisting. Along the way we also had the Lillington Police Department, Fuquay Varina and Holly Springs Police Departments, the Apex and Cary Police Departments, the Wake and Durham County Sheriff’s Departments, the Durham City Police, and the Duke Campus Police. We are indebted to you all, as you make our huge ride as safe and successful as possible. In twelve years we have had very

few incidents thanks in part to all the law enforcement that assist us. Thank you very much for all you do. Upon arriving at Duke Children’s Hospital, Texas Roadhouse was waiting for us with a great lunch of BBQ Pork, BBQ Chicken, Green Beans, Potato Salad, Slaw, Rolls, and more. They also gave out gifts of free appetizers to all participants. Texas Roadhouse has been with us since the beginning and has this down pat. They are so very organized, and everyone is fed in short order. After lunch, we meander over to the hospital to deliver the toys, and listen to some of the heartbreaking stories of children there. It is hard, and wonderful, as we know we are making a small difference in their lives, even for a short time. Some of these children and their families are dealing with illnesses and such for much longer periods of time, and here we are having fun trying to assist them! The pile of toys is huge, it takes an assembly line of people to bring them all in. We were thanked often, but it is we who are thankful, for if you never have to have a loved one (especially a child) in a hospital, you would understand. We are all so happy to do it! The total of toys, monies and gift cards for this year was outstanding; this is the break-out: Value of toys: $12,500, Gift Cards: $425, Donation at Duke: $1,200 (Donation taken at Duke for family), Actual Currency: $13,625.97 (Hard-currency to Duke CH), Total Event: $27,750.97 The families are able to have gift cards for needed items, and the toys are used year round as needed to give a lift to a child. It really is a labor of love from Will, Ponce, and their volun-

teers who make this possible. If you haven’t done this run, mark you calendar for next year, the 3rd Saturday in July, you will not regret it. Upon returning to M & M Leather, the day is far from over! We had yet another meal (yes!) more BBQ and all the fixin’s again, along with cake, lots of door prizes given away, including gift certificates, artwork, a motorcycle helmet, motorcycle gear, and lots more. Another 50/50 was held and we heard some rocking music from Prophecy, a local band sponsored by Double D productions. We thank them all, along with many others who support us in various ways. Without you, this ride would not happen. We hope to see you all again next year. Until then, ride safe.

The Roughnecks Rain, Fun and Sun Run

By: Everette “EZ” Short On Saturday, August 16th, The Roughnecks MC held a roller coaster ride of a run with bodacious buckets of rain falling, only to be followed by searing sun filed moments and a whole lot of fun to support Camp Happy Hearts and Mercy Care of Myrtle Beach. The ride started at The City Line Saloon across from Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson at 11AM. Well, it was supposed to start then, but when the sky opened up with a maelstrom of wailing wind, deep waters, and a whole lot of flying debris, it was every man and woman for themselves in a run to Ron Jon’s off the #501 just past the waterway. Amazingly, when we got to Ron Jon’s the ground was dry as a bone and the air was as steamy as a sauna. After hanging around long enough to draw some cards, draw some raffle prizes, and let our leathers turn mushy, it was back on the road to Danny Lee’s off the #707 on the Socastee edge of Southern Myrtle Beach. Crossing the bridge to merge with the #17 Bi-Pass, the skies let loose again in an avalanche of

laser guided bullet rain drops that were the size of golf balls, or at least that is how it felt. At Danny Lee’s it was hot and packed inside and even hotter outside with the sun beating down. Cards got drawn, raffle tickets got pulled, and about 60 plus riders pulled back out on a run to The Wild Horse Saloon in Murrells Inlet. The ride went on to Spencerz in Surfside Beach, and on to end in Murrells Inlet where the rocking chairs rock. It is amazing that under suck conditions there were no accidents, no incidents, no injuries, and not one bad attitude or grumble in the bunch. There was, however a lot of sweaty laughter going on, with a slew of good looking wet and wild women rolling along on the ride. Be sure to check on-line to see how 1335 National Hwy. good wet and wild women can look Thomasville, NC in pictures (and they looked a lot better in real life by the way). I have to say that it was a job well done by everyone who stuck it out for these two great causes. Check The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar (FullThrottleMagawww. .com zine.com/CruisinCalendar.aspx) for more runs and fun times.

house in the Wilmington area each year, which is open to the public with attendees from GA, TN, SC, and all across NC. On Saturday, June 21st they held their spring event. Although it was threatening rain, a good number of bikers and vendors attended and took part. The rain held off and all seemed to have a great time. If you have never watched any of these games, you should watch for some of the rallies and events that offer these games and not only watch, but also try your hand, and bike, in some of them. You may even take home a cash prize. Least you can do is have some good laughs and make some more new friends. The Rodeo Riders will have their fall event in September or October and several of them will be helping out at the Fall Boone Bike Rally September 5th and 6th. So come on out and enjoy the fun. Check FullThrottleMagazine.com events picture page for this story to get a peek at what some of the games involve. As always, ride often, be safe, and enjoy the journey! See you around.

By: dpapabear Ever wonder what all goes on at a bike rally besides just a group of people getting together who ride motorcycles? Well, there are lots of games involving motorcycles and games without the bikes. Wet t-shirt contests are always a favorite, but other games are played as well. They have a slow ride, beer keg roll, balloon toss and waitress carry, involving water, plank riding, wienie bite, Honey I’m Home, tire drags, barrel racing, pick-em up and put-em down, poke her, involving a toilet plunger and roll of toilet paper, and others I have missed I’m sure. Several of these games usually pay out a cash prize to the winners, which can help you pay for your weekend fun. The Rodeo Riders MC, based out of the Wilmington, NC area, is a group of riders that specialize in these games. The members travel around to most of the rallies, not only for the fellowship and fun, but to take part in these games. They often wind up helping out the event sponsors by helping organize and overseeing the running of the games. I know first hand that they often help out at Myrtle Beach, Maggie Valley, and the Boone Bike Rallies as well as others I have not attended yet. They even have a free spring and fall meet at their club-

By Everette “EZ” Short Under a canopy of fierce lightning, monsoon winds and a torrent of flooding rain, Mother Nature threatened to end the Best Of The Bikes Show at Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson on the morning of Saturday, August 16th, before it could even begin. Then, the sun came shining through to show us the Best Of The Bikes, to show us who is who and what is what in the bikes of the Grand Strand. With free BBQ, sandwiches and drinks, as well as moonshine samplers from Palmetto Moonshine, the show offered up a $500 bounty to the winners for several categories including Sportster, Softail, touring, trike, Dyna, and custom bikes, as well as most mileage, best sound, and the overall “Peoples Choice” Award. Our own gorgeous Sarah George organized this fiesta along with an army of support from Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson and all was well by the time the afternoon sun came out of the clouds to shine down on all those who had come to show off their finest steel horses. Several local celebrities like Bill Barber from SBB, the Steelhorse Law group, and others walked the lines of bikes with check lists to choose winners from a sea of gorgeous sleds that had braved the flood of rain and the 100% humidity that followed the storm. In the end, everyone was a winner, but all the proceeds went to the Street Reach Program that offers people in need a new direction for life in Horry County. Karin and Bill Chamberlin won in the

Sportster and Dyna categories, with Rico Johnson taking Best Touring, while Mark Engelhardt gathered up Best Softail and Rick Sweet reeled in the Best Trike award. Donald Soles won for Best Custom and People’s Choice on the previous Bike Night on August 7th, and Freddie Honeycutt won Best Sound. Brian Campbell won Highest Mileage with 71,320 miles and in a Grand Finale Kevin Brooks, who had won People’s Choice on July 17th, also won The Best Of The Bikes People’s Choice Award! I have to send out a hearty great job and a high five slap for everyone who showed up to participate and to all the people who helped make these events possible throughout the three months of Bike Night competitions. Whether or not you agreed on the winners, the “People’s Choice” award was actually decided by WE THE PEOPLE. So, next time bring all your friends with you, if you need to. Bike Nights are continuing on along the Strand through the month of October, so look for them in the Cruisin’ Calendar pages of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. You should be sure to show up at House Of Blues on Thursday nights for the North Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson Bike Night too! When you see us there, wave and smile for the cameras. If you get there, then you’re already a winner!

Boozy Creek Field Meet And Dirt Drags Story and Photo by Alan Dockery Boozy Creek. The name even sounds like a fun place. A couple times a year the Peacemakers MC of Kingsport holds a party, the Boozy Creek Field Meet and Dirt Drags, in the East Tennessee hills. The meets are held around Mothers’ Day and Fourth of July. I think they had about the best weather in years for the July party. Saturday, bands played from early afternoon until late that night. Between bands we took to the field for bike games and people games. Bike Games Winners were: Bucket Race – Mitch and April Whitehead. Slow Race – Cody Bowlin. Plank Race – Mitch Whitehead. Keg Roll – Cody Bowlin. Small Keg Roll – Wayne Moore. Helmet Toss – Henry Harmon. Panty Race – Cody Bowlin and Tiffany Adkins. Weenie Bite – Carolyn Mauck and Zid Byers. People Games Winners were: Tater Dig – Cheyenne. Ski Run – Cody Bowlin, Steve Eremity, Donnie Bryant. Bouncy Ball – April Whitehead. Keg Toss, Men – Red O’Brian. Keg Toss, Women – Kelly Metcalf. Plunger Race – April Whitehead and Silva Reece. Sunday even more folks ride in for the day and the dirt drags. After a round of the race bikes taking to the track for test and tune, folks were ready to bring their own rides on the field for the bike show. Man, there were a bunch of fine machines at this little place in the hills. Bike Show Winners were: Sportster – Kid. Bagger – Mark Wampler. Custom – Ronnie Richards. Foreign – Chad Jasse. Three Wheeler – Joe Hommell. Antique – Ronnie Cassell. Rat Bike – Big Bill. Sport Bike – Cody Bowlin. Stock – Brandon Bryant.

Folks from kids on 50cc bikes to snortin’ Harleys got into the dirt drags. Drag Race winners were: Dustin Write won both Dirt Bike classes 125 and 250. Nolan Dye took Foreign Knobby. Cody Bowlin won Foreign Street Tire. Big Twin Street Tire went to Mike Moore. James Shelton won the Money Class for the really fast bikes. The party ends with the Miss Boozy Creek contest. Kelly won and April was the runner up. The Peacemakers MC hosts a cool, old-fashioned biker party at their beautiful place in the Tennessee hills. Bring your race bike, field event partner, a good attitude and y’all come join us.

Save The Patch By: Spike ‘SAVE THE PATCH’ is the culmination of many factors including decades of ever increasing discrimination and persecution to Bikers, their organizations and their lifestyle in general. We as bikers have widely been subjected to unwarranted highway stops, refused admittance into establishments and misrepresentation by law enforcement and the media. The U.S. Department of Justice last year filed a lawsuit seeking to seize control of the trademarked logo of the Mongol Nation Motorcycle Club LLC, arguing that the Mongols are a criminal organization and that the mark is used for intimidation; but the Mongols and their attorneys argue that the government is overstepping its bounds with the lawsuit, which they said would infringe on the rights of club members. “They’re trying to destroy the right of men to associate and indicate their association,” said Joe Yanny, an attorney representing the Mongols. “It’s absolutely ridiculous. In addition to being a violation of club members’ free-speech rights, more importantly, it’s a due-process issue.” The lawsuit breaks new ground in terms of trademark law, the attorney said, adding that it may end up at the Supreme Court. Unlike a business trademark controlled by a single entity, the Mongols’ logo is a “collective membership mark,” and “It’s legally owned by one entity, but held in trust for the members. It’s the votes of club members that ultimately determined who is allowed to wear the club’s patch.” Bikers throughout the state and nationwide identify with the message being sent out and the ramifications, if the patch is lost, it will affect us all. In southern California, widely respected members of all major clubs have met to discuss ways to save the patch. A Facebook page “SAVE the PATCH” has been set up since October and it states: “It has become time to further protect and defend our rights to ride, associate, and enjoy our lifestyle for all motorcycle riders and enthusiasts. To wear our respective clubs membership insignia, which have been trademarked, copyrighted, and incorporated by these organized entities. Representatives from a few of these clubs in Southern California have come together to make the initial steps in presenting and organizing the support of all motorcycle clubs and riders to stand up and work to prevent the freedoms we all value and enjoy from being eroded further, by an ever more intrusive government apparently bent on tyrannical control, we all need to become involved and work to defend that which we all enjoy about our lifestyle, be it as a club member or independent riders.” The good news is, the passion to ride, the passion for freedom and the passion to preserve the life style is more than enough to unite the Biker world in whatever stance it takes to SAVE THE PATCH. By: Everette “EZ” Short On Sunday, July 27th, The Harley Shop at the Beach hosted their own Christmas In July Toy Run Sponsored by Liberty Tap Room Bar & Grill, to benefit the Horry County Chapter of the American Red Cross and bring toys to children who otherwise might not have any. Starting with a free breakfast at The Harley Shop at the Beach, located at 4002 Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach, registration was done, riders were saddled up, and everyone was rolling out of the lot on their way to Cap’n Poo’s by 11:30 in the morning. Cap’n Poo’s, on the Intracoastal Waterway, is a great place to sit a spell and the staff were eagerly waiting to sling some freshly made Bloody Mary cocktails and cold beers when we got there on this steamy hot afternoon. After a few bad jokes and some smart phone digital malefaction face twittering, it was up the road we went to Harley’s Roadhouse on Highway 9 in Little River to cross their old school cool covered bridge, just to be out standing in the field, with a frosty one in hand. By the time we got there, the heat index was up over 105º and the place was packed with over 90 registered riders and even more piling in to draw cards in search of a winning hand. Out back, the usual suspects were lighting up the yard with real tall

tail pipe flames, burning hot spots on the green grass behind the barn for entertainment. Up above us, high clouds began to gather about 2:30 and there was a rumble or two of thunder in the air, but the rain held fast and we all knew what was soon to come. So in a blistering exit, we headed south to find The Liberty Tap Room & Grill for some great grub, prizes and a cool music groove going on across the back deck. I think we could all agree that the biggest draw was their kicking AC system, since we were all wet and sweaty, as well as the great wait staff that kept the finger foods and drinks coming. Thanks to everyone who participated, all the volunteers, and especially our wait staff at all the stops that worked in the heat all day just to serve us in humidity levels that had to be near 100%. On an unfortunate note, when we got home we received word that we lost Mr. Milton Martin, a local rider and veteran from Conway, when he was hit and killed on Kings Highway this afternoon. He was with us on the ride and it was an eerie thing to see pictures of him riding next to us on his gorgeous Harley-Davidson Street Glide, smoking a cigar and smiling, without a care in the world. It goes to show you that we are all only our next breath away from meeting our Maker. Rest In Peace, Mr. Martin. Rommel H-D Durham Grill & Chill

By: Kathy Johnson When Rommel H-D in Durham throws a Grill & Chill check it out. I did! I was glad I did. They had all the ingredients for a good time. Motorcycles, beer, band, and oh yea, let’s not leave out free food! What a good time out side on a Friday night. There were plenty of picnic tables in the parking lot to relax and listen to the Dixon Bridge Band. I first had the pleasure of seeing them perform at Aidan’s Ride here at Rommel H-D on May 10th (www.AidanHasAPosse.org). I wanted to see them again so needless to say I was happy about the entertainment that they had. While the Dixon Bridge Band was playing, some people were gearing up for their Rider’s Edge Classes. They had a Jump Start simulator out front that the people signed up for the class were trying out. On it was a Harley-Davidson Street 500. That is the new Harley that they will be learning on. In the past when people took the Rider’s Edge course we learned on Buells. It look’s like it has evolved into a better experience to benefit the riders in the classes. It was enjoyable seeing the excitement on their faces as they watched each other on the Jump Start simulator. In side the store, they had a lot of specials and were

announcing specials throughout the event. As they would say they had some kick ass bikes for you to look at or even better for you to purchase. Burgers and hot dogs were being flipped on the grill. Triangle Brewing Company had beer on tap or a cold can for a thirst quencher. Jack Marvel and his team are really putting on some great events just about every weekend. I really enjoyed this no brainer. You could go to Rommel H-D, eat some great food, drink some beer, hear a great band, and be $ around some fun people. Or maybe you prefer to pay a cover to get in a bar, buy your food, and be cooped up inside. Like I said, 7pm it was a no brainer! It was a lot of fun $ and I am looking Live Entertainment, Giveaways, forward to the next Grill & Chill at Wing Specials! Harley5828 N. Church St. Greensboro, NC Rommel Davidson!

Ride The Lady In Black

Specializing In Your Custom Motorcycle Vacation

GTR TRANSPORT “ G o od

By: Sara Dean On Sunday, July 27th, 2014 a group from Charleston rode up to Thunder Tower Harley-Davidson In Columbia, SC to meet up with a large group of riders from all over to register and Ride The Lady In Black, The Track Too Tough To Tame, Darlington Motor Speedway. Our morning started with KSU in Summerville, SC on our journey to TTH-D. We arrived at TTH-D after a refuel stop at 10am. We got our wristband, got some water and had the large riders meeting with Marianne Martin, TTH-D Events Coordinator and Art Ackerman Lead Road Captain of the event. We had hundreds of bikes rolling down I-20 at 10:30am on the ride to Darlington with some police help getting all these bikes onto the Interstate. We had a great ride for this many bikes riding in a large group. It actually was a pretty smooth ride. Once at Darlington Raceway we were all staged and had to line up and sign a waiver to get onto the track. Excitement was apparent in everyone’s face as we await our ride ahead. We headed into the pits through the tunnel. We are then lined up under the awnings in the pits. Thanks you, we had shade while we waited and TTH-

D made sure water was plentiful in these 100º+ temperatures. It was blistering hot. All that heat coming off those bikes just made it worse, but we had shade. They divided us into sections and took the groups one at a time to ride The Lady In Black. As each group rode, all returned with smiles upon their faces. Some of the groups left after their ride. For those lucky ones who stayed, we rode again, and again, and again. We rode down to the Winner’s Circle and had a photo session and some fun there in fact. It was a fabulous day of fun and thrills riding The Track Too Tough To Tame. Our group decided to call it a day around 3pm. We all took off and rode to Florence to Red Bone Alley for a late lunch and much ice water. Then we took off down Highway 52 for Charleston getting back around 7pm all stinky and sweaty, full of road grime. Did I care? Not a bit! The entire day was so worth it and fun was had by all who attended. I will do it again next year, for sure! I send out a huge thank you to Marianne Martin and Art Ackerman and Thunder Riders HOG Chapter for an awesome event. The team had one hell of an event that was fun for all.

Custom Dynamics Turn Signal Decoder

TruFLEX Integrated LED Plate Frames

H-D’s 2014 Touring Models have turn and brake functions on the same rear wire, making it impossible to put any auxiliary, Turn Only lights on the rear of the motorcycle. Custom Dynamics Turn Signal Decoder isolates the turn signal wires, making it possible to add lights to the rear for Turn Signal Only. With easy to connect Posi-Taps, the Decoder makes it possible to use popular products such as Dual Color Plasma Rods, LED Plate Frames with Amber Turns. Works only with add-on LED Turn Signals. Fits: 2014 Street Glide, Street Glide Special, Electra Glide Ultra Classic, Ultra Limited. MSRP: $74.95, Contact Custom Dynamics at 800-382-1388, www. CustomDynamics.com or your local Drag Specialties dealer for more information.

As part of their growing line of TruFLEX integrated LED plate frames, Custom Dynamics has just released the TF06. This unit features 45 Red LEDS on each side that can be used as Run, Brake, Turn or any combination, as well as 6 Cool White LEDs for license plate illumination. The TF06 works great on newer HDs that have 1157 rear turn signals and no center taillight. On these bikes the Red LEDs will function as Run-Brake-Turn, significantly increasing rear visibility. Available in either a chrome or black finish. MSRP $119.95. Contact Custom Dynamics at 800-382-1388, www.customdynamics.com or your local Drag Specialties dealer

Ray Price Racing Collects Fourth Win In Columbus

Team also captures low elapsed time and top speed of the event If there was ever a time when everything just worked in their favor, it was at the Buckeye Fuel Wars Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at National Trail Raceway outside Columbus, Ohio July 18-21. From the time the team made their first qualifying pass on Friday to the last pass on Sunday, the Ray Price Racing team had it all going their way. The team had the Akea Express top fuel Harley ready and tuned for the first round of qualifying on Friday. Tommy Grimes twisted the throttle to run a 6.364 ET at 232.47 mph to secure the number one qualifying spot. Then the Akea/Ray Price nitro Harley laid down another impressive run during Saturday’s round two qualifying, almost matching their first round elapsed time with a 6.365 ET at 226.96 MPH. Rain forced the cancellation of the third round of qualifying for all of the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series top fuel Harleys. The team went into Sunday’s eliminations holding onto the number one spot with the low elapsed time of 6.364 seconds. During first round of eliminations, Grimes ran an even stronger pass with a 6.334 ET at 228.07 MPH during the bye run. Then in round two the 1,000 horsepower Ikea Express lays down an electrifying 6.273 ET at 227.61 MPH to secure the low ET of the event and move into the finals. Grimes faced Mike Pelrine in the finals, Grimes left the start line first and never looked back, running a 6.274 ET at 232.35 MPH before crossing the finish line and capturing the teams fourth win of the 2014 season. “We were very consistent all weekend long. This win was a

total team effort, and I am proud of everyone”, Ray Price commented after the win. The Ray Price Motorsports team sends sincere thanks to all their sponsors for their support for the 2014 race season. They include our Primary Sponsors: Akea, Ray Price Harley-Davidson, with special thanks to our Associate Sponsor Raleigh H.O.G. and our Support Sponsors: CP Pistons, Vanson Leathers, PJ1 Products, RC Components, Nationwide Insurance, Royal Purple, Barnett Clutches & Cables, Autolite Sparkplugs, Mickey Thompson Tires, Gates Belts, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, JIMS USA, Industrial Machine Solutions and Wiley X. The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine

2014 H-D Street 500 By: Mark Infield Harley-Davidson has introduced the Street 500 and also a 750cc version of its new platform. For the purposes of this review, we are going to focus on the Street 500, primarily because that is what Harley-Davidson of Greensboro had in stock at the time. I like the look of the bike. It is compact, lightweight and, in my opinion would make an excellent starter bike. Once ridden, you may want to keep it longer than just a as a learner bike. It scoots right along! This bike is being used in the Rider’s Edge training program and is, again, in my opinion well suited for the task. The Harley-Davidson Street 500 features the all-new liquid-cooled Revolution XTM, V-Twin engine that is rated at 29.5 ft. lbs. of torque at 3500 rpm and delivers 41 mpg. The bike I rode was painted Vivid Black and it looked great with the entire engine blacked out, too. It featured black 7-spoke aluminum wheels and Michelin Scorcher tires, 17” on the front and 15” on the back. Front and back are fitted with single disc, 2-piston caliper brakes.

FULL COLLISION REPAIR CENTER 1300 Park St. High Point, NC CHRIS Phone: 336-882-4400 Fax: 336-882-9287 COLLINS

It was a comfortable bike. It had a 3.5-inch electronic speedometer shielded by a small sport fairing with indicators for high beam, neutral, low oil pressure, turn signals, engine diagnostics, and a low fuel warning. The ignition switch was right below the speedometer and incorporated a fork lock, which I thought was convenient. However, it was right above the gas tank and suggested that any other keys attached to the ignition key might damage the paint on the tank. It also had a locking gas cap, which used the ignition key for access. The Street 500 is fitted with a 6speed transmission and retails for $6,799 MSRP Over all, this is a nice little bike and you can read all kinds of reviews on the Internet. Harley-Davidson.com is a good source for specifications and you can even schedule a test ride at a dealer near you just by entering your zip code or schedule a test ride If you are looking for a nice lightweight motorcycle, I suggest you look into the Harley-Davidson Street 500.

Story and photo by Alan Dockery On the last Saturday in July, the lovely little town of Newton, NC, holds their Motorcycle, Truck and Car Show Classic. This is a rather lazy afternoon hanging out in the shade at Southside Park and talking about the vehicles we brought. All bikers are welcome. Club colors are encouraged and they even have a trophy for best looking club. When they can get enough people motivated to leave the shade and play they do bike games, Harley riders versus sport bike riders. So, next Summer I’d love to see a bunch of y’all ride over to our little Southern town for the day. Motorcycle Class Winners: Touring: 1st Place - Charles Bailey, 2nd Place Rodney Cain; Cruiser: 1st Place - Don Heidmous, 2nd Place - Randy Hayes; Best Old Bike 1980 and Down: 1st Place - Teresa Stillwell, 2nd Place - Joe Swanner; Honda Sport Bike: 1st Place - Alan Dockery, 2nd Place - Howard Wellman; Most Unusual: 1st Place Mark Holden, 2nd Place - Justin Frye; Harley-Davidson: 1st Place - Aubie Danner, and Best of Show: 1st Place Sherrie Holden, 2nd Place - Hal Holden.

eZoom Portable Tracking And Safety Locator

By Buzz: Whether you ride a cruiser, bagger, chopper, or sport bike, you have spent a lot of time and money purchasing and customizing your ride. Now, if some scoundrel made off with your ride you would feel helpless and have to hope that someone you know sees your bike and turns it in to the local authorities. I have been there and believe me, it’s not a good feeling. Now imagine if you could track your motorcycle and pinpoint its location. The eZoom portable tracking and safety locator can do that for you! The waterproof tracking device is 2”x3” and can hook up directly to your motorcycles battery so you don’t have to worry about recharging it. The eZoom GPS tracker can be located anytime with user-friendly tracking website, mobile application or by sending a text message. The app will also track your ride and show you where it has been. This could also be helpful to show you where you went last night! eZoom is perfect for tracking teen drivers,

cars, and motorcycles. You can also use our smart phone application to remotely activate motion detectors in the eZoom. If your vehicle moves from its parking spot, you’ll know quickly, and you can track it 24/7. Check out www.securusgps.com to purchase and get the particulars on this handy device!

Spokes & Jokes

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! At our house we call it “pickin” and it is symbolic of your acceptance in the group. We live in the United States Of The Offended, so get over it!!

Four expectant fathers pace in a hospital waiting room while their wives are in labor. The nurse enters and tells the first man, “Congratulations, you’re the father of twins.” “What a coincidence,” the man says. “I work for the Minnesota Twins baseball team.” A little later, the nurse returns and tells the second man, “You are the father of triplets.” “That’s really an incredible coincidence,” he answers. “I work for the 3M Corporation.” An hour later, the nurse tells the third man that his wife has just given birth to quadruplets. The man says, “I don’t believe it! I work for the Four Seasons. What a coincidence.” After hearing this, everyone’s attention turns to the fourth guy who has just fainted. He slowly regains consciousness and whispers; “I should have never taken that job at Millennium Computers.”

and said, ‘’Lucky for you the chief is at his daughter’s wedding. He’ll be in a great mood when he gets here.’’ ‘’Don’t count on it,’’ said the prisoner. ‘’I’m the groom.’’ An Irishman, an Englishman, and a Scotsman go into a pub and each order a pint of Guinness. Just as the bartender hands them over, three flies buzz down, and one lands in each of the pints. The Englishman looks disgusted, pushes his pint away and demands another pint. The Scotsman picks out the fly, shrugs and takes a long swallow. The Irishman reaches into the glass, pinches the fly between his fingers and shakes him while yelling, “Spit it out, ya b@st@ rd! Spit it out!”

An Afghanistan diplomat visiting the US for the first time was being wined and dined by the State Department. The diplomat was not used to the salt in American foods (French fries, cheeses, salami, anchovies, etc.) and was constantly sending his manservant Abdul to fetch him a glass of water. Time and again, Abdul would scamper off and return with a glass of water, but then came the time when he returned empty handed. “Abdul, you son of an ugly camel, where is my water?” demanded the diplomat. “A thousand pardons, O Illustrious One,” stammered the wretched Abdul. “But a man is sitting on the well!”

A man and woman were married for many years. Whenever there was a confrontation, yelling could be heard deep into the night. The old man would shout, “When I die, I will dig my way up and out of the grave and come back and haunt you for the rest of your life!” Neighbors feared him. The old man liked the fact that he was feared. Then one evening when he was 98, he died. After the burial, her neighbors, concerned for her safety, asked: “Aren’t you afraid that he may indeed be able to dig his way out of the grave and haunt you for the rest of your life?” The wife said, “ Let him dig. I had him buried upside down...and I know he won’t ask for directions.” I was standing at the bar and a little Chinese man came in, stood next to me, and started

A man in a Florida supermarket tries to buy half a head of lettuce. The very young produce assistant tells him that they sell only whole heads of lettuce. The man persists and asks to see the manager. The boy says he’ll ask his manager about it. Walking into the back room, the boy said to his manager, “Some a$$hole wants to buy half a head of lettuce.” As he finished his sentence, he turned to find the man standing right behind him, so he added, “And this gentleman has kindly offered to buy the other half.” The manager approved the deal, and the man went on his way. Later the manager said to the boy, “I was impressed with the way you got yourself out of that situation earlier. We like people who think on their feet here. Where are you from, son?” “Canada, sir,” the boy replied. “Well, why did you leave Canada?” the manager asked. The boy said, “Sir, there’s nothing but whores and hockey players up there.” “Really?” said the manager. “My wife is from Canada.” “No kidding?” replied the boy. “Who did she play for?” I pulled into the crowded parking lot at the local shopping center and rolled down the car windows to make sure my Labrador Retriever pup had fresh air. She was stretched full out on the back seat and I wanted to impress upon her that she must remain there. I walked to the curb backward, pointing my finger at the car and saying emphatically, “Now you stay. Do you hear me?” “Stay! Stay!” The driver of a nearby car, a pretty young blonde, gave me a strange look and said, “Why don’t you just put it in ‘Park’?” A police officer in a small town stopped a motorist who was speeding down Main Street. ‘’But officer,’’ the man said, ‘’I can explain.’’ ‘’Just be quiet!’’ snapped the officer. ‘’Or I’m going to let you cool off in jail until the chief gets back.’’ ‘’But officer, I just wanted to say...’’ ‘’And I said KEEP QUIET! Now you’re going to jail!’’ A few hours later, the officer checked up on his prisoner

Most people believe that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain’t broke, it doesn’t have enough features yet. A dying man gives each of his best friends - a lawyer, a doctor, and a clergyman - an envelope containing $25,000 in cash to be placed in his coffin. A week later the man dies and the friends each place an envelope in the coffin. Several months later, the clergyman confesses that he only put $10,000 in the envelope and sent the rest to a mission in South America. The doctor confesses that his envelope had only $8,000 because he donated to a medical charity. The lawyer is outraged; “I am the only one who kept my promise to our dying friend. I want you both to know that the envelope I placed in the coffin contained my own personal check for the entire $25,000.” A woman went down to the Welfare Office to get aid. The office worker asked her, “How many children do you have?” “Ten,” she replied. “What are their names?” he asked. “David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, and David,” she answered. “They’re all named David?” he asked, “What if you want them to come in from playing outside?” “Oh, that’s easy,” she said. “I just call ‘DAVID’, and they all come running in.” “And, if you want them to come to the table for dinner?” “I just say, ‘David, come eat your dinner’,” she answered. “But what if you just want ONE of them to do something?” he asked. “Oh, that’s easy,” she said, “I just use their last name!”

What We Spend Our Time On Greetings brothers and sisters! I have been sitting here drinking my coffee and looking over friend’s posts on a social media site. I do this daily, by the way. I love to see happy faces in pictures. I enjoy watching funny videos shared by friends and family. Laughter really is good for the soul! As I scroll down, I see how everyone is spending their time. To be fair, I start with myself. If you see my page you know I love Jesus! I love spending time at HLF ministry and doing out reach to everyone from bikers to the homeless. Jesus loves them all! You will notice I adore my family, but you are also going to see that I am an insane Carolina Panther’s and Atlanta Braves fan! I love to watch football! It’s crazy my level of intensity during the game and talking to others about my Panthers. Ha, ha. So, I’ve showed you some of myself now I’ll tell you about some of my friends. What is the obsession with selfies? I’ve seen pictures of you yesterday and the day before and the day before that. You did not change! Yes, a picture of yourself is OK, but hourly? LOL, come on. I read of friends daily who are on their page posting how sad and discouraged or lonely they are. I see people who work hard at being good parents and providing for their families. I see friends who attend church services or biker events and they share of their good times. Unfortunately I see those girls who post photos of themselves revealing too much because they are desperate for at-

tention. It brings me to this conclusion: At times we can be so self consumed with “us” that we forget about “Him”. I would like you to think on these few scriptures about how you spend your time. In Colossians, the Bible says, “Walk in wisdom towards them that are without, making the best of your time.” We need to use our time wisely. Be an example of Christ. Be a good friend. Be a good parent and spouse. In John 17:4 the Word tells us, “I glorified you on earth having accomplished the work you gave me to do.” In other words whether your living in Christ or without Christ, He still created you with a purpose and a job to do. Will you glorify God in your lifetime with what he called you to do? And lastly, Romans 13:11 tell us this truth, “Knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we first believed.” And Mark 13:36 tells us, “If He comes suddenly do not let Him find you sleeping”. So, how do you spend your days? If today was your last day on earth and Christ was coming for your soul by morning, how would you spend this day? What changes need to be made? If you don’t know Jesus, call on him today! Pray the biker’s prayer on this page and start living a life to glorify God and don’t waste your time, but make it count for Christ. Love and prayers, Robin StJohn

NC Ramblers MC 50th Anniversary Party Story and photo by Alan Dockery The first weekend of August I joined some good friends for the NC Ramblers MC 50th Anniversary party near Lenoir, NC. They have access to an old rock quarry, which gives them a private spot to have fun, not bother the neighbors, and a deep, cold place to swim. Lots of bikers rode in for the day or camped for the weekend. The Ramblers are probably the oldest club for a few states around this area. “Other than the big AMA clubs that started in the 1930s, I don’t know of any other clubs in this area older than us and still around,” said Wild Bill, Ramblers Club President. “I’ve seen a lot come and go. But I think we are the oldest continually active.” “We are celebrating our 50th anniversary as The Ramblers MC,” said Wild Bill. “The club actually started in 1961 with six guys who called themselves the Deep Six. About three years later, they looked around and there were about 30 of them so they figured it was time to change the name.” “The Ramblers is a family oriented club. We are all just regular working men. We have traveled the country from Key West to Canada. As far as I know been in 48 of the 50 states. Ain’t rode to Alaska yet. Ramblers party with clubs up and down the east coast. Mainly with friends in the Carolinas, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky.” I saw lots of clubs represented at the Ramblers anniversary including: Street Survivors, Hickory, NC; Windjammers, Shelby, NC; Scorpions, Sanford, NC; High Rollers, Lenoir, NC; Brothers of the Wheel with some national officers,

and members of eight Ghostriders Chapters from North Carolina to West Virginia. We got the party going Saturday with some good hot hog and deer and fixins, plus ice-cold beer. Then we took to the field for some bike games. J. J. from the Mercer County (WV) Ghostriders, showed everyone how it is done by winning all three bike games. He was obviously experienced and even changed bikes for each event. Other awards went to Tom for the Oldest Bike a 1968 Shovel. Oldest Rider was Big D from the Street Survivors at 69 years old. Shawn from Cleveland, Ohio, got the Longest Distance award. The club with the Most Riding Members was the Street Survivors. Saturday evening the Whiskey Throttle Band entertained us. “We had an excellent party overall for our 50th anniversary,” Wild Bill said. “With that diverse a crowd, I was glad to see everyone was friendly and happy and having a great time. I am pleased with the turn out, despite the threatening weather. Saw lots of old friends during the weekend that came by to congratulate us on the 50th. We appreciate their support. “Thanks to our members and old members like Frosty and Arty. Thanks to the Street Survivors for helping us get ready. Every club that came offered whatever help we needed. And a big round of applause to the guys who cooked and served drinks.”

Harley-Davidson™ World Ride Racks Up 10.5 Million Miles Seeking freedom and adventure, thousands of globe-trotting motorcycle riders ditched the daily grind and hit the road during the Harley-Davidson™ World Ride on June 22-23. Together they logged 10,566,064 miles, or 17,004,389 kilometers, over the course of the two-day ride. After completing their rides, participants logged their mileage directly onto the World Ride web site and shared riding stories and photographs on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #HDWorldRide. Participants could also download a certificate of participation after entering their mileage on the web site. “Riders left the rat race behind for two days during the World Ride and put on an incredible demonstration of the fun and freedom that riding brings to our lives,” said Nigel Villiers, Harley-Davidson Director of Integrated Consumer Experience. “The number of miles we rode together is amazing, but what really makes the World Ride special are the stories and memories they created.” During the World Ride, riders logged miles solo, in groups large and small, and through a variety of dealer-led events around the world, united by a shared passion for freedom, adventure, and riding. Riders from more than 75 countries participated in the World Ride, with the ten highest mileage totals coming from the United States, Canada, Brazil, India, Mexico, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, and South Africa. Stories and photos gathered during the World Ride can be viewed at socialhub.harley-davidson.com/worldride. To learn more about the Harley-Davidson World Ride, visit h-d.com/ worldride. that night and the event was an overwhelming success. Mudd, Stand Up, and the SRMC decided to make it an annual event. In subsequent years, the proceeds have been used for both the breast cancer organizations and the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. The annual Funniest Biker events continue to be one of the most popular and entertaining happenings during the year. Everyone stood to applaud the Funniest Biker 2014, Goose, of Silent Heroes Motorcycle Club. Goose received his second applaud and recognition when he returned 100% of his winnings to the charity; certainly “a class act” in more ways than one. Also noted as the close runner up was Richard Maxon, he put on a great show! Congratulations to all that took part in the competition. What a great time of laughter, charity, and good ole motorcycle mayhem-funnies! The jokes rolled from biker stereotyping to the fish at the bottom of the ocean; while the laughter roared like an approaching tidal wave. Next year’s event should be marked on your calendars. What better way to help a wonderful cause than laugh your way to the bank! Southern Riders Motorcycle Club gets the outstanding rating for helping us all contribute, donate, give, volunteer, live, and appreciate each other. What a great affirmation of love for one another! Everyone was so proud to be a part of the cause! “I want to thank everyone who came out to support the 5th Annual North Carolina’s Funniest Biker event - it was an awesome time with an awesome after-party! I feel that this was the funniest event to date. If you weren’t there, you missed one hell of a bash!”

By: Trisha Beasley & Stand Up On May 24th, 2014, The Southern Riders Motorcycle Club (SRMC) hosted its 5th annual event. Several bikers from across North Carolina gathered in Fayetteville, NC to answer one nagging question: Who is North Carolina’s Funniest Biker? The Cumberland County Chapter of the Southern Riders Motorcycle Club (SRMC) hosts what has become an annual event. The goal is to give bikers the opportunity to perform their funniest bits on stage while also helping to fight breast cancer. The event featured a number of comedians, several of which belonged to SRMC. Then, headlining the show were Jeremy Burpie and Julie Scoggins. These two had the crowd laughing non-stop for at least an hour. They kept it coming and the crowd did not want to let Julie Scoggins leave the stage. They repeatedly came up with more fish species for her to turn into yet another laugh. And, she did! The event was the brainchild of a biker named Mudd who had seen his brother, Stand-Up, perform comedy at Charlie Goodnight’s in Raleigh. Mudd and Stand Up are both members of the SRMC in North Carolina. Mudd felt that it would be an entertaining evening while also providing desperately needed funds for the fight against breast cancer. The annual fundraising event has done just that! The first event was held in February 2010 and raised $1,000 for breast cancer research. Eight comedians took the stage

Motorcycle Bill Aims To Bring Equal Treatment In South Carolina

AIM/NCOM Motorcycle E-News Service South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley recently signed a Motorcycle Equal Access Bill that mandates equal treatment toward motorcyclists across the state in all public areas. This legislation, sponsored by Rep. Todd Atwater (R-Lexington), amends the Code of South Carolina to keep local law enforcement agencies from denying access to motorcyclists on public highways, bridges, parking garages and essentially any publicly funded areas. A lot of local motorcycle groups supported this bill, many feeling that law enforcement has not treated them right for a long time and they say they›re ready for a change. “There’s few municipalities, in particular, that want to stop motorcycles from parking in publicly funded taxpayer areas,” said one ABATE spokesperson. “If tax payers are paying for a garage, then they should not be allowed to tell us we can›t park there.» Under the bill, cities and counties have to make reasonable accommodations for motorcycle parking in lots and garages. «All this bill is about is equal access, this is making sure that when you go to any city in this state that if you have a motorcycle you have a place to park,” said the Governor who is also an ABATE member, adding; «As long as I have been in office, ABATE has been my friend, and that›s because they fight for all the right things; they›ve always fought for safety, they›ve always fought for individual rights, they›ve always fought to make sure that people have the liberties they should have.

By: Caroline On August 2nd, family and friends came together for a ride to honor the memory of Lynsey Miller and to also raise funds for the 3 young children ages 5, 4, and 2 years old that she left behind. Pine Tree Bar & Grill on Bethania Station Road in WinstonSalem, NC hosted the event and featured a meal and silent auction after the ride. Dell Guthrie graciously provided musical entertainment. One of the most memorable donations came before the ride, when a local merchant stopped by to give $2,000! I also spoke to Lynsey’s father, Tim Miller, who is also Grandfather to Lynsey’s three children. He told me that his daughter was a victim of domestic abuse that took her life just this past February. All the proceeds from the ride will go to her three children. If you would like to donate to help these children, you can contact Tim Miller at 336-775-7184. Also, an account is open at Capital Bank in Rural Hall under the name “Eli Miller charitable savings” and can also take donations.

Broke Down In Carolina

By: Jake Kinard Friday the 13th. It was 7am when I left from work and headed due south towards Greensboro, NC. I was going to be meeting up with Jennifer before heading to Columbia, SC to meet up with George, and finally heading to Florence, SC to meet up with all the awesome friends I grew up with. I say friends, but really, they’re more like family to me. I had been up since 9:30pm and the GPS estimated an 8-hour trip to Greensboro, 4 hours from Greensboro to Columbia, and 2 hours from Columbia to Florence. I was also planning to stay in Greensboro until 6pm, and probably staying in Columbia for half an hour, so I was looking at an eta of midnight at the earliest. A lot of riding, but it was going to be worth it. I fueled up and grabbed a bite to eat, and hit the road at around 7:30am. I had my rain gear with me as rain was forecasted in spots throughout the trip. The nice thing was that it folded up nicely and could be wedged under the bungee cords that secured my pack against the sissy bar. This granted me quick access in the event of a storm and an adjustable backrest. The ride was going well, blasting down Rt. 15 through Maryland and Virginia. I hopped onto Rt. 29, the route I was going to be on until I hit Greensboro. I did hit rain in spots, but nothing too bad. I checked my phone’s GPS and my ETA in Greensboro was looking to be closer to 5pm. I knew I had no time to loose, so I wasted no time when I’d stop for gas. I was blasting down 29, excited that I was now seeing signs for Greensboro. Only half an hour to go, or so I thought. I was a halfway between Reidsville and Greensboro when the bike started spitting and sputtering. The first thing that came to mind was my ride to Cherry Springs, when a simple pinched spark plug wire caused the bike to do the same thing before dying on me. I wiggled the wire around, but that did nothing. Then the bike died completely. I coasted to the side of the road and threw the kickstand down, dismounting to my right so I could take a look at the spark plug wire. I turned the key off and on, and I had no power at all. I figured it had to be the main fuse or battery. I unclipped the battery box on that side and then swung over to the left side to unclip it there, when I saw all of the wires from the wire can hanging down against the chain. The turn signal relay was missing, wires were exposed, and the main fuse was blown. I wasted no time in taping up the wires, but as I did so, things took a turn for the worse. I heard sizzling and looked over towards the gas tank, and smoke was boiling out from underneath the front of it. There’s only one thing it could be: the ignition coil. It sizzled and crackled for just a few seconds, and for those few seconds I was concerned that it would catch fire. Not good near gasoline. Fortunately though, it stopped. Now what do I do? On the plus side, I had phone service on both of my phones, but on the down side I wasn’t near any gas stations or exits. And now, some big raindrops were starting to fall. I threw my rain jacket on and sat on the railing and let my

friends know that I wasn’t going to be getting there on time, if at all that day. I was bummed. Now I though about calling a tow truck or seeing if anyone remotely close had a truck or trailer we could load the bike up onto. Half an hour had now passed. Cars and motorcycles went whizzing on by, when a Subaru finally pulled over to check on me. A guy named Steve with slicked back hair, a chin goatee, and tattoos walked over and asked if I needed help. I said I did, but wasn’t sure what my options were. Steve had an idea and called friend of his who he said could probably get me back on the road that day if he could get all the parts he needed. But then Steve had an idea. He said he only lived about 5 minutes from where we were and he could go get his neighbor’s truck, load up the bike, and get me back to his place until we could figure something out. I was out of options, so that’s what we decided on. In the mean time, I talked with Gardo and he gave me some great advice while pointing me in the right direction for a solution. Thanks again for that, man. And half an hour passed and both Steve and his neighbor returned with a pickup truck. We just barely squeezed the bike into the bed and strapped it down. I sat in the back and held onto the handlebar, just for safe measure. I called Jennifer during the ride and we came up with a backup plan, just in case. It was comforting to know that someone I can trust wasn’t too far away. The call ended right as we pulled into a gravel driveway, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, as another car pulls in right behind us. So, here I am sandwiched between two cars with complete strangers. It’s a good thing I don’t watch TV very often, because I’d probably have been paranoid. I wasn’t, but I did keep my ears open for the sound of banjos. We came to a stop, and as the guy who pulled in behind us got out of his car, I heard Steve yell, “Hey, perfect timing Rick!” Rick - that’s the guy Steve told me about earlier! Maybe he’ll be able to come up with a solution? We got the bike unloaded and met some other people including Steve’s wife April and Rick’s wife Kim. There was also a really friendly golden poodle there named Connor, who instantly warmed up to me. I felt more at ease now, especially with seeing how friendly Connor was. A dog’s personality is a very good representation of its owner’s personality, and this was no exception. The place was beautiful! It was quiet and cozy with a pond flanked by wilderness. The house itself was a nice mix of rustic and modern design. This is the kind of place I’d love to live at. Within 5 minutes, between Connor and their own personalities, and seeing the place they called home, I knew I was in good hands. These are the kind of people I’d hang out with any day. Rick wasted no time in taking a look at the bike and getting the coil off. It was cracked, so we knew for sure that it was fried. We set out to Advance Auto to see if they had anything, but no luck. Then we set off to Lowes to see if they had any-

thing close for lawnmowers, but to no avail. Out of options, we called it a night and headed back to Steve’s house. Rick said he could probably get something first thing in the morning, so I was going to be staying here tonight. We got back to find April and Kim grilling up some burgers and beans. We ate and shared stories, having a great time. The connection to the Internet was almost nonexistent, but the connection to each other couldn’t have been better. April and Steve even showed me what a super shotgun was. It involves beer and a water squirter. It’s pretty self explanatory, and it’s as awesome as it sounds. These folks seriously know how to kick back and have a truly good time. 9:30pm rolled around in no time and we decided to call it a night, since everyone had plans the next day. April and Steve put food in my belly and a roof over my head. They shouldn’t just be ambassadors to North Carolina, but to how to be human beings. I really can’t say enough good about them. I settled in and fell asleep sometime around 10:30pm, having been up for 25 hours. It’s been a long time since I slept as well as I did that night. It was just such a great atmosphere there. It may have been a rare full moon on Friday the 13th, but I’d hardly say I had bad luck that day. Sure, I broke down on the side of the road, but had I not; I would never have met such genuinely good human beings. It just goes to show that every experience, whether it seems good or bad, comes with a lesson to teach and something new to learn. That, my friends, is why it’s worth getting out there and doing new things. You experience the world, you learn from others, and you truly live. Saturday the 14th 9am rolled around before I knew it. I slept soundly, waking to the sound of birds chirping through the open window in the most perfect morning temperature. April and Steve were already up and we headed out for breakfast. I can’t remember the name of the place they took me to, but boy was the food amazing! It nourished not only my body, but my spirit too. Southern cooking just has a way of doing that. As if April and Steve hadn’t already done everything short of giving me the shirts off their backs, they

paid for my breakfast, too. This wasn’t normal Southern hospitality - this was stuff of legends. This is the kind of thing I’ll remember for the rest of my life. After breakfast, we ran out to Advance Auto to pick up some shrinkable butt connectors to repair the damaged wires, and there Rick met up with us. He, too, was a biker, pulling up on his Goldwing. And he, too, is a man of his word. He pulled out a replacement coil he picked up, and in the same fashion as Steve and April, just gave it to me. I kid you not. I tried handing him money for reimbursement and he told me to keep it and use it on my trip. I feel like a broken record, but I seriously think I found the nicest people in the world. We headed back to Steve’s place and got the wires fixed up while Rick replaced the coil. Steve pulled the battery off the trickle charger that he hooked it up to the night before, just to ensure that the battery was ready to go (he’s just that kind of guy). Now came the moment of truth. I turned the key, hit the ignition, and....nothing. It turned over and over, but just wouldn’t fire up. It was a little disheartening, but Rick refused to give up. He grabbed his multimeter and started testing the connections. And I’m glad, because I’m terrible with electronics and wouldn’t even know where to begin. He tested the coil: good. He tested the spark plug wire: good. He tested everything he could and everything was checking out - except the CDI box. The readings from it were questionable. Through simple deductions, we were sure that it was indeed the CDI box. We looked over all the connections and everything looked good otherwise. The only two clips that didn’t have something connected to them were the clips for the kickstand kill switch that was removed long ago and the turn signal relay that disappeared when the wires originally fell out. The clip for the turn signal relay was similar to one for the CDI box, but only had one wire going into it and the CDI box clip had two prongs. We thought about switching the clips, but it didn’t make much sense for one wire to need two prongs and we didn’t want to test it and risk shorting something else out. That was

the last thing we needed. It was a little after noon and some scooter/motorcycle shops were still open, so off we went to hunt for CDI boxes. The first place didn’t have anything close, and one of the mechanics said he’s never seen a CDI box quite like mine. Considering they service a variety of different bikes, that wasn’t good news. Off to a store that specialized in small displacement scooters and atvs. The guy we spoke to looked at it and quickly pulled a CDI box off of one of the scooters; the clips were identical, but the box was smaller and for a 150cc. Too risky to experiment with. The closest Cleveland Cycle Werks dealership was an hour and a half away and would be closed by the time we would get there. We were out of ideas for the day. We started walking out to the car and I was struck with an idea. Before I initially left for this trip, fellow CCW Riders member Mike Driver told me he lived near Greensboro and if I ran into any problems, to give him a holler. I had to get back to PA by 11pm Sunday night because I had work. My only other option was to catch a bus back up, buy parts, and catch a bus back down sometime in the coming weeks. I was desperate. I messaged him, explained my situation, and reluctantly offered him double the price of a new CDI box plus gas money if there was any way I could use his. I could even ship his original one back once I got to PA. I wasn’t reluctant to offer him compensation for it, but rather because it was such a huge favor to ask and an inconvenience to him. I didn’t want to pressure him though, and reassured that I could catch a bus home if I needed to. He told me to give him a call, so I did and we talked. Steve, Rick, and I had just gotten back to Steve’s place and no sooner did they head off to the Harley dealership to pick up Steve’s bike. Mike was now on his way with his CDI box. April and I talked for a bit and I embarrassingly tried my hand at Frisbee golf. Then we heard a motorcycle, so I ran up the driveway and there’s Mike! He and I headed back down to the house and we all introduced ourselves and talked for a bit. Mike’s two-tone Harley was beautiful and I had to check it out before anything else. He grabbed his CDI box and we headed over towards my bike. We plugged his box up, turned the key, hit the ignition, aaand... nothing again! Ah, man, what could it possibly be? It looked like I was going to be taking a bus back to Harrisburg in the morning. I’ll just have to save up some money, buy new electric components, and make a trip back down by bus to fix it. Maybe it needs a new wiring harness? Maybe this coil isn’t a good match? Maybe my clips are messed up? As I was pacing and considering my limited options, I didn’t even notice Mike had put my CDI box back on. I looked at it and noticed he plugged the clip with one wire into the CDI box. I asked, “Isn’t that for the turn signal?” and Mike said, “Maybe. Give it a try anyway.” What did I have to lose? I turned the key; hit the ignition, aaaand.... WHIR-WHEHPLUPLUPLUPLUPLUPLUPLUPLUPLUP. I about hit the floor. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! This whole time, we had the wrong damned clip plugged in?

The look on our faces was priceless. Well, on April’s face and mine. Mike (aka JESUS) was just crouched there by the wires with a big smile on his face. “I remember this one wire being plugged in when I took the box off mine. I figured that’s what the problem was.” I was kicking myself in the ass so hard on the inside. We all considered that clip earlier, but didn’t want to take the risk of trying it. All we needed was someone with that little bit of knowledge and Slippy was alive! We took a minute to just take it all in, and before long, Steve and Rick returned with Steve’s Harley. Man was that a great looking bike. He and Rick walked over and asked if we had any luck; I said, “It didn’t run with Mike’s box plugged in, so he plugged mine back in and I hit the ignition and she came alive.” Rick and Steve’s faces lit up. I told them what had happened and they, too, couldn’t believe it was that stupid clip we questioned earlier. But we didn’t care now, because I was set to go! We threw the wires back into the box and slapped the Country Crock tub over it, making sure it wasn’t going to come back off, made sure all the bolts and nuts were secured with thread locker, and I packed my stuff up. It was going on 6pm when we were all set to hit the road. We said our farewells and all rolled out on our bikes. I followed Mike a ways down Rt. 29 until he made his turn off to head home and I darted down Rt. 220. I was so happy to be back on the road again. When I finally passed the sign saying “Welcome to Florence”, I threw my fist in the air in celebration. It had been too long. The ride couldn’t end soon enough as the anticipation of seeing my friends again was all I could think about. And before long, I saw familiar places. “I recognize that store! Hey, I remember this road!” I felt like a kid in a candy store. I turned into the neighborhood where George’s parents lived and everyone was waiting. There were cars lining the road and an open spot in the driveway. I pulled in, killed the engine, and dismounted. It was now about 10:50pm. I made it! Finally. I didn’t quite make it to the door and people started coming outside to greet me. Then Callie pulled up, jumped out of the car, and came screaming towards me, almost knocking me off my feet and probably waking all the neighbors. But we couldn’t care less about that. I headed inside to meet with everyone else. It was such a good feeling to step foot back in that house. We were all anticipating going to Venus, a local diner for some ‘Sneaky Pancakes’. It was a tradition from high school when we’d sneak out in the middle of the night to get some food at any place that had pancakes and other breakfast stuff. I got a quick shower and off we went! Sunday the 15th midnight rolled over as we all drove to Venus. I rode shotgun in George’s fancy new Civic, which was a (very) nice change from the Heist’s stock seat. We caught up on times missed over the years and finally pulled up at Venus to meet with everyone. We all carried on as if we just saw each other yesterday. It was pretty amazing. There was even a surprise (but welcomed!) visit by Lauren while we were there. It ended up being a smaller turn out than was originally an-

ticipated because of the breakdown in NC. Some of my other friends that I was really looking forward to seeing weren’t able to make it, but that’s just all the more reason to try again, right? We were there for a few hours, just laughing and carrying on. Enjoying the time we had together. It must have been close to 3am when we decided to head back to George’s place. I caught a ride with Brad in his also fancy Altima to go pick up James since he had just gotten off from work. And right on par with everyone else, we all just carried on like we always had. We got to George’s place and just chilled, having fun reminiscing about the hell we used to raise. I nodded in and out of the conversations over the next hour or two, but when 6:15 am rolled around, I jumped awake and packed my bags. We were due for breakfast before I left at 9am! We ate at IHOP until around 9. Just as quickly as I had arrived, I had to head back. After a reluctant farewell, I headed off, stopping for a few minutes to see Sean before I hit Rt. 95. The ride home was a grueling one. Other than nodding in and out of the conversations for an hour or so, I had been up since 9:30am Saturday - 24 hours ago. The ride back was uneventful at least, with the bike doing well other than the chain REALLY needing to be tightened at one point. Staying awake was difficult, but between my ass being on fire from sitting on this seat for so long and singing songs at the top of my lungs, I managed. ‘WOOOO-OOAAAH! LIIIIIVIN’ ON A PRAYER!’ (Don’t judge. You’d be surprised at how well that works.) I

stopped to eat at Bojangles’ on the way up, too, because we don’t have them up in the North. There’s no way I could pass that up. All in all, I averaged about 65 mpg at nonstop wide-open throttle. Mind you, WOT in 5th gear only put me in the uppermid rpm range @ around 60-65mph, so the engine wasn’t screaming. Drafting behind semi-trucks helped significantly and could boost me up to 75-80 mph, but it IS risky to do that. I stopped roughly every 100 miles for fuel and to stretch a bit, and believe me, it was necessary. I finally made it into PA and puttered my way to the house, arriving right at 9pm. The journey wasn’t over yet though. I had just enough time to shave and head in to work from 11pm - 7am. How tired was I? We’ll just say that I drifted between being awake and asleep while talking to people. 47 hours later, I finally slept. In the words of Martha Stewart, it was good thing. A straight road never made a skilled rider. Life has a funny way of throwing unexpected curves into the road you travel through life. It’s how you lean into those curves that determine how you ride out of them. Slow down, pay attention, and take it as it comes. Learn what you can because the knowledge you gain will make your ride that much more enjoyable.
