Away From Home

Artist Statement:

I am a Chinese scholar, studying alone in Singapore for the fourth year since November 2016. It is indeed tough for me to manage the dramatic changes in lifestyle and struggle to adapt to the foreign land. Yet, this unique experience has helped me to grow up a lot.

Unbroken Family Connections

This board continues to explore the aspects of family connection while I am overseas. I realized that the key reason for my wish to grow is to reassure my family that I can look after myself well. At the same time, although the homesickness still lingers, it has turned to a positive appreciation of the love and care from my family. Lots of things remind me that I have never been too far away from home.

Whenever I miss home, I would look at old family photos and imagine myself standing beside them.

Inspired by John ClangÕs photography project ÒBeing TogetherÓ, I used the projection to achieve virtual reunion, and hold loved ones in my arms.
