Damien & Victoria SOFT, MODERN WEDDING
T
his couple has a love for downtown Lynchburg and it’s revitalization, so it’s no wonder their wedding has such a fabulous twist! Choosing a modern color palette of gold, white and black peppered
with earthy bold colors, this event coupled softness with an industrial look in so many ways. Even their venue - a super secret space in downtown Lynchburg - has the feel of a factory, yet natural elements such as trees (that were planted in Victoria’s dad’s yard post-ceremony) were brought in to create an intimate, more delicate space. Damien and Victoria also bucked some traditional elements and created an event that was all their own. From not having attendants (due to a large family and too many friends to pick from) and skipping traditional reception dances to having Victoria’s parents give speeches, their day was full of sentimentality and fun!

FAVORITE MOMENT We opened the bar before the ceremony, and asked all the guests to get a drink before heading to the ceremony space because there would be a toast at the end of the ceremony. What completely shocked me was when Damien walked into the ceremony space... all our family and friends literally starting cheering. It was both hilarious and amazing! When my dad and I walked in everyone stood up and clapped and yelled. I just loved how without telling any of them, the whole group knew what the perfect way to welcome us would be. EMOTIONAL MOMENT We had our siblings each read a brief literary passage about love and friendship at the ceremony, and my brother started choking up. Not only did I burst into the sobbing ugly cry, but there was truly not a dry eye in the house. FUN MOMENT We had a confetti cannon at the end of the night that sprayed big, gold confetti all over the dancing crowd. Everyone was laughing so much and loved it.

VICTORIA’S TIPS Be nice to your parents. Everyone during the wedding planning process, I am convinced, loses their mind at some point, and that can lead to some situations where you are very unkind to those you love. Remember; in the end it will be okay, but your parents want this to be special for you too. So be nice to them, even when they suggest things where you know they have completely lost it. You cannot do everything; hire professionals. Everything takes longer than you think it will. Ask people for help, but pay your photographer (get a good one!), hire someone to do your flowers, and get a capable caterer. Your vendors make your wedding day the way you envision it, while you get to enjoy it. 13
SPECIAL TOUCHES · In Virginia you can get a one-time license to marry people, so Damien and Victoria’s friend, Nick, went through the process and performed their nuptials. · Victoria’s Italian grandmother made pizzelles as wedding favors. · During the reception The Vanishing Virginian was projected onto the wall, which features old shots of Lynchburg’s downtown area.
How they met: They lived in the same apartment building at VA Tech. The dress: It was the second one she tried on! And the cat? The kitty is her dad and stepmom’s cat, Eightball.

Lynchburg is a river town steeped in history with a deep love for arts and the community. It is peppered with century old buildings that are mingled within or just a short walk from the downtown area. Point of Honor is a lovely building, which overlooks the river and the city itself. The juxtaposition between looking in one direction and seeing a 200 year old home and then turning 180 degrees and seeing a city shows so much beauty and diversity... and windows are everywhere.

This inspiration shoot incorporates both a light windowpane theme along with the 2016 Pantone palette, which makes this shoot strikingly beautiful. Our bride and groom are also a real life couple - married for thirteen years with four children. What a joy to treat them to a styled shoot to celebrate their love. LIME PUNCH Ingredients • 1 quart lime sherbet • 1 quart pineapple sherbet • 2 liters ginger ale • 46 ounce can pineapple juice • lemon, lime and cucumber slices • champagne (optional) Method Pour one liter of ginger ale into a large punch bowl. Add scoops of sherbet to the bowl and add the remaining liter of ginger ale and the pineapple juice. Decorate with fruit slices, and top off with a steady pour of champagne to taste. A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH creating a custom ring From the day a couple determines they are right for each other, tradition has it that the bride-to-be has something wonderful to look forward to - an engagement ring! But, when it comes to the hunt for the perfect piece, sometimes what a jeweler has on hand isn’t quite the right fit. If a couple wants a unique ring or to incorporate sentimental metals or precious stones, considering a one-of-a-kind design is perfect!

Wax - which comes in a tubelike form - is selected and carefully
carved into a wax ring.

The wax ring is adhered to what is called a “sprue”, and a type of
plaster called “investment” is poured around it so that a form can be made.

Once the investment is set, the wax is melted and vacuumed
out, which leaves an impression of the carved wax ring inside. The investment then becomes the plaster mold into which the precious metal is poured in order to cast the ring.

The metal is melted, and a centrifugal caster is utilized to
thrust the liquid into the mold. The process of centrifusion quickly forces the metal into the mold, which takes about 30 seconds.

The investment with the cast ring inside is then immersed
in water, causing the plaster to disintegrate, leaving a rough ring.

The ring is then filed, smoothed and polished. Hand engraving
can be added if desired.

Voila! The ring can then be picked up, and the proposal can be underway

A well fitting suit is an essential rite of passage for any man, but for even the most seasoned gentleman making a choice can be overwhelming with so many options and styles offered. We consulted with the creative power duo from Twenty23 to give the guys a crash course in everything they need to know to select the perfect suit.

When you’re short, lines matter. To create an elongated appearance, wear a darker suit with soft vertical pinstripes. A jacket with two buttons and double vents will also help.
No padded shoulders for you! Use large lapels and a slightly longer length jacket to help balance the wide upper body and smaller waist. Dress pants should also be pleated and cuffed.
You’re tall and lean. Heavier materials mixed with light colors and check patterns will make you appear more stocky. Avoid dark colors and the Short Call’s pinstripes.
Vertical lines and darker colors create a slimming effect. Single vent jackets that are tailored to you will keep you looking streamline. Also use lighter weight materials.

NECKWEAR NEEDED A men’s suit is simply incomplete without a bow or neck tie. No matter the occasion, carefully choose your neckwear to accentuate, but not distract from, your overall look.
SELECTING SLACKS
Suit trousers are the base of your look. They should sit at the top of your hip bone a little below the belly button. The aim is to have minimal drape so that your pants appear comfortable but not baggy. The Big Boy will want a full or half break in the legs while the Short, Beefy and Tall gentlemen should lean towards a quarter or no break.

DERBIES VS. OXFORDS Formal shoes with laces are split into Derbies and Oxfords. Derbies are less formal and are distinguished by the fact that the “facing” (where the eyelets are located) is open at the bottom. An Oxford’s facing is closed, being sewn under the vamp, or the top of the shoe. If you are only going to own one pair, go with the Oxford.

Minimal setup is allowed on the property, but the allure of a fort wedding is most memorable.

The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort For those craving a beachside wedding, The King and Prince is your all-in-one stop for your wedding, rehearsal dinner, and accommodations. The hotel offers several indoor room options for both ceremonies and receptions, although you may choose to say your nuptials on their lush lawn or on the beach itself – which does not require a permit, although the time of your ceremony will be dependent on the tides (there are two high and two low tides each day). Beyond that, the beach and resort itself make for lovely wedding photos. With cozy ocean view rooms and suites, this location is ideal for making your wedding a remarkable event for all involved. Catering via ECHO, the on-site restaurant caps off a culinary delight for your guests!
