Date Night
a cheeseboard and drinks for two You’re engaged, yay! Now that you have a ring on your finger the planning begins, which means that your busy schedule is packed with things to do. Still, taking time as a couple should be a priority. For your next date night, consider making a cheeseboard complete with two fun drinks to go along with it. Feel free to skip the sake (a Japanese alcohol) if you don’t drink or are under 21. 6
CHEESEBOARD A perfect cheeseboard – or charcuterie if you’d like to add meat – isn’t difficult to create. The goal is to have the perfect balance of sweet and salty. Pick a few favorite cheeses with varying degrees of texture, and add nuts, crackers, and a sweet drizzle. Check out the recipe for ours below.
SAKE SPIKED DRIZZLE INGREDIENTS
• • •
2 oz honey 2 oz raspberry jam 2 oz G Fifty sake

RASPBERRY LEMONADE REFRESHER makes one refresher

SAK-OLATE MARTINI makes one martini
INGREDIENTS

1 package hot chocolate mix (reserve 2 tablespoons aside)

FOR THE RECORD a retro bridal shower
Once the engagement happens, it’s fun to start planning events. The central one is the wedding, but the rehearsal dinner, bachelorette, and bridal shower can all take center stage in their own right.
For this bridal shower, the location – a popular record shop in Lynchburg – gave way to a plethora of ideas that revolved around using records in tasteful, unexpected ways. Here are a few favorites.
8
1 2
Small records (45s, to be exact) were painted white and hand-lettered to adorn the bride’s chair, showcase the menu, and also serve as a guest book.
Personalized full-size records were painted, and they served double-duty as place cards. Each guest’s name was painted onto the charger, and a clear plate was used so the name could be read easily.
3
When it came to drinking glasses, vintage etched glass was used. Music is etched onto records, so what a fun way to subtly incorporate a hint of detail.
4
Donuts and scones – both round, just like records – took center stage for a lovely meal.

BALANCING WEDDING PLANNING WITH A FULL TIME JOB
Being newly engaged is such an exciting time — your friends and family are gushing over the proposal, you’ve got a shiny new rock to show off, and you can finally hit Pinterest hard and dive into the process of designing your big day. Oh, but wait… You have to go to work tomorrow. Outside of a few congratulations here and there, you’re expected to sit there and focus on work when dreams of weddings cakes and bridesmaid gowns dance around your head. How are you supposed to maintain work productivity for up to a year (or more) when there’s so much to be done? It’s not always easy, that’s for sure. However, here are some helpful strategies for planning your dream wedding while still working your way up to that next promotion.

This might go without saying, but outsourcing the logistics of planning can save you both time and stress. Wedding planners are skilled experts on everything from vendor procurement, design trends, timeline coordination, and much more. While you’ll certainly still want plenty of input on the overall look of the day, having a valuable resource like a wedding planner will save you from consulting Google during the workday when you just need to know the pros and cons of an outdoor ceremony or how much alcohol to purchase.
Knowing you have a couple hours dedicated to wedding planning in the evening can help you focus on work while you’re still in the office. Take note of the thoughts and questions that come up and, instead of digging in at work (“just this one time!”), set aside time after work or on the weekends to focus only on wedding

Wine Country Fashion A SIMPLE STYLE GUIDE
Whether you are headed to a wine country wedding or are having a bachelorette weekend perusing tasting rooms, knowing what to wear can be intimidating. After all, what is “chic?” Just the thought of dressing for wine country can seem daunting, but breaking the looks down while adding your own flair can help you pick an outfit in a breeze.
Wine Country Casual When it comes to wine country, the term “casual” basically means comfortable, yet still cute and fashionable. Think a sundress, patterned jumpsuit, or even shorts or a denim skirt with a trendy top. Do you feel most at home in a romper? This look is perfect for you, especially if you toss a cardigan on top.
Your own take on this style will ensure that you feel good and are dressed appropriately for informal occasions. Heading to wine country with flats or study wedges is a great idea if you are headed to tastings, an informal daytime wedding, or a barbeque rehearsal dinner. 14
Wine Country Chic This is the one that befuddles winegoers the most. Chic is defined as “elegantly and stylishly fashionable,” so this style falls somewhere in between casual and formal. It is the perfect opportunity to spruce up without donning cocktail attire, but feel free to dress the look up or down a bit to fit your taste. A not-so-dressy dress or a pantsuit that is both breathable and comfy are good pieces to invest in. If you are headed to an evening outdoor wedding, rehearsal dinner, or upscale daytime wedding, this is the perfect level of style. Plus, it’s the excuse you’ve needed to sport those statement earrings you have been dying to wear! 15
Wine Country Formal If the word “formal” makes you think about prom, just get that thought out of your head! Axe the ball gown and go for something that would fall more into the cocktail dress category. The wine country formal look is ideal for the poshest affairs, such as an evening wedding with a sit-down dinner. A variety of hem lengths and classic pantsuits in black are perfect for the occasion! No matter what your thoughts are on the various wine country styles, be sure of one thing. Staying true to your own style is key. A range of outfits within each look is definitely acceptable. You can choose to go a bit more formal or a tad more casual, but you know what? It will work! So – no matter what – interpret these sections as you wish, and own those looks. You can do it!

DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH a styled shoot With warm weather comes weddings! And before a wedding, there is usually a diamond in the form of an engagement ring, but what if that diamond came in the form of a baseball field instead? With open air, themed foods, and nooks and crannies for hiding away with your love, a stadium is a great fit.
17
18
So, when you are ready to head to the major leagues and commit your love to one another, throw your guests a curveball and have a stadium wedding instead. With all of the right touches (cleats included), this type of event is sure to be a home run!

guests enjoying gorgeous scenery and lingering around intimate seating areas. It sounds divine! Of course, there are things to establish, such as logistics, location, and budget. These are considerations for any wedding, which is where a trusted planner can come in. FOR THE RELAXED COUPLE When considering a destination event, keeping it intimate and casual is not only appropriate for weddings but can also include events such as rehearsal dinners and bridesmaid luncheons. Offering an upscale, healthy buffet lunch with beautifully wrapped sandwiches adds to the feel and allows for guests to mingle and enjoy conversation with others.

FOR THE SWANKY COUPLE Whether you want a more formal rehearsal dinner or tend to enjoy chic events, the look and feel of a hidden, wooded estate decked out in globe lights is incredibly memorable. Farm tables and monochromatic dĂŠcor can be complimented with colorful, fresh food offerings and well-stocked dessert bars. Passing food family style will ensure your guests have a good time, and lingering by a bonfire allows for conversation to flow just like the wine.
FOR THE LAVISH COUPLE For the couple that adores decadence, a destination event in a wine cave may be just the ticket. With a controlled temperature and ethereal atmosphere this experience is truly for the dramatic. Guests can enjoy a cocktail hour outside on the gorgeous grounds while finally heading inside to enjoy a decadent, plated meal at long tables that are centered down the middle of the cave.

Destination weddings are certainly gaining in popularity, and why not? It’s the perfect opportunity to combine a love for travel and new experiences with your wedding day. Plus, it’s a great way to cull through the guest list a bit for those who prefer a more intimate affair. And, if you love the beauty of California’s wine country, you may want to consider a wine pairing – in a whole new way!
Of course, you can offer wine pairings at your reception – but this pairing list is all about where to have your destination wedding. No matter your reasons for wanting a wedding in a different locale, California’s San Mateo County and Silicon Valley area has the perfect place for you to do so by including one of these wineries in your nuptial plans.
