Several changes among school leaders have occurred over the summer months. Mr. Kevin Bradley was named principal at Chase High School, replacing Greg Lovelace who retired at the end of the last school year. New assistant principals include Margaret McKinney at Chase High School, Preston Allen at Chase Middle School, Kim Carpenter at East Rutherford Middle School, and Reagan Rippy at R-S Central High School. Dr. Mar tha Robinson, Director of Human Resources, repor ted that 45 new educators and support personnel have been hired to fill vacancies as a result of retirements and resignations. Rutherford County Schools’ use of technology to enhance teaching and lear ning will again be the focus of regional and state activities for other school leaders in the coming school year. As a state leader in 1:1 digital learning and twice-recognized as an Apple Distinguished Education Program, Rutherford County Schools will host two visits this school year for educators from across the southeastern United States who want to learn more about its successful Going GLOBAL initiative. Nor th Carolina New Schools has also identified REaCH, a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School, and East Ruther ford High School as national models of highly ef fective early college programs. The organization will bring visitors to Ruther ford County to learn more about the work underway to expand early college instructional models and experiences for all students at R-S Central High School, Chase High School, and East Ruther ford through their par ticipation in

Trinity Christian School When you walk down the halls at Trinity Christian School you may hear phrases such as Deo gratias (Praise be to God) and Acta non verba (Actions, not words). These Latin phrases will be added to the chatter of the halls because when students arrive on August 25th for their first day of school, they will also begin their new Latin curriculum, “Song School Latin”. Teachers in grades K-5 will use songs, illustrations, stories and games to introduce Latin to their students. Students in grades 6-8 will also embark on a new journey with “The Truth Project” by Focus on the Family. This study is designed primarily to help students solidify their Christian faith with foundational apologetics training. This will equip young people to stand strong and defend their faith as they prepare for high school, college and the job market. Trinity Christian School began with a small group of families in 1974 and has grown into a thriving school that now serves over 130 students in Preschool-8th grade. The school does charge tuition but offers a needs-based assistance program to help as many families as possible make Christian education a viable option. This school year will also be first time the school has students who have received vouchers through the North Carolina Opportunity Scholarship program. Families who are eligible for the program applied in the spring and were

Test scores are one of the areas that have continued to improve at Trinity with more than 90 percent of students passing their end of grade examinations on their first attempt. Trin-
ity continues to maintain an average class size of 12 students with a maximum of 16 per class. Trinity will continue to participate in a middle school sports conference that offers flag football, cross country, soccer and basketball. Plans are also underway for the school’s second annual “Pet Parade” to be held in the spring. A tradition everyone looks forward to each year is the school’s annual day of service, “Operation Shine”. On this day, students from preschool through eighth grade participate in various mission projects on and off campus. “It is a wonderful day that allows our students to give back to the community. From collecting food for the backpack program to working at Hospice, every student is involved in some aspect of ministry,” added Tiffany Walker, Head of School. This year it will also be linked with the school’s theme verse, Luke 10:27 ’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" homas Jefferson Classical Academy: A Challenge Foundation Academy (TJCA-CFA) is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year with a Gala Ball planned on Saturday, Aug. 23, the anniversary date of its opening day on August 23, 1999. Since that inaugural opening, TJCA-CFA has grown from 150 students to 1300 students on two campuses, with the original upper school campus in Avondale serving grades 6-12, and the grammar campus in Alexander Mills serving grades K-5 since it opened in 2009. TJCA offers the strength of the Core Knowledge Curriculum developed at the University of Virginia for grades K-8, and a classical curriculum high school model that includes two years of Latin and Logic study and a year of rhetoric in addition to core courses in each year of high school. Visual arts and music are required core classes in grades K-8, and elective courses through high school to enable students to pursue theater, orchestra or dance. Student success in a challenging academic environment continues to be the signature of TJCA-CFA. This past year, TJCA-CFA was one of only three schools nationwide to be recognized as a “Core Knowledge School of Distinction�.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Washington Post and Newsweek Magazine both recognized TJCA-CFA in the top 1 percent of high schools nation-wide when measuring college readiness through state exams and Advanced Placement course criteria. The schools' 60 graduating seniors were awarded over $3.6 million from the colleges they applied to attend. Graduates will be heading to Duke, Davidson, Clemson, Auburn, Georgia, UNC Chapel Hill, NC State and a host of other four year programs. Many graduates have earned Advanced Placement college course credits, allowing them to bypass large core requirement freshmen classes and move right into smaller sophomore level classes.
