A Department of the City of Mitchell Mayor Bob Everson The Board of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry is appointed by the Mayor. The Board meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm at the City Council Chambers. Transportation a Problem?
Palace Transit Can Help! Buses are available for transportation to and from the Parks & Recreation programs. Price is $2.00 for a one-way Monday through Friday 7:30 am - 4:30 pm and $3.00 one-way evenings and weekends. All rides must be scheduled by 4:00 pm the day before (Monday rides must be scheduled by Friday at 4:00 pm). Curb-to-curb service and wheelchair accessible. To make arrangements, call 995-8440.
Weather Policy
Outdoor programs will be canceled if weather conditions create a potential hazard for participants. Such conditions include heavy rain, wet field conditions, tornado warnings, lightning, or excessive heat combined with high humidity. Listen to KORN, Q107, KMIT, or Thomas radio stations for announcements, check our website, or call cancellation hotline at 990-6740!
Scholarships Available:
* If the fees are too high to fit your budget, talk to Kevin DeVries, Todd Cavanaugh, or Jamie Henkel and arrangements will be made for your child’s participation. Families with a notice of action letter will qualify for a discount. ** All scholarships MUST be set up at the Rec Center — you can set up your account at home, then stop in to show your notice of action letter and we will set you up for a 50% scholarship for programs. Scholarships also apply to Aquatic Center memberships, but are not at the 50% level. ***If you set up a scholarship last year you must come in and set up another one for this year.

Participants will need to be able to ride a bike and provide their own bike and helmet.

The purpose of Parent and Child Aquatics is to teach safe behaviors around the water and develop swimming readiness by leading parents and their children in water exploration activities with the objective of having fun and becoming comfortable in, on and around water.

Builds on earlier skills an introduces the crawl strokes, backstroke, treading water and basic diving form.

The beginning of true locomotive skills in the water such as floating, kicks and arm motions.

Deep water skills and strength development through distance swimming.

Requires strength and endurance as 50 meter swims are introduced in the crawl strokes, and 25 meter swims will be required in the breaststroke, sidestroke and backstroke.

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR ALL SWIM LESSONS: All classes are taught by Red Cross Certified Instructors. Please wear swim-wear to class. Bring a towel. Parents are welcome to attend, but must sit in the spectator area to allow children to learn independently with their instructors.

We have just added a stair-master to the room to complete the most versatile room in the area! MITCHELL SUMMER ACTIVITIES
This camp is a hands-on, project-based camp exploring different STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) topics. Students will be exploring topics from the following eight clusters: circuitry, computer graphics, digital communications, mechanics and structures, robotics and control technology, scientific data and analysis, software engineering and sustainability. After we have explored each topic, students will have the opportunity to create their own project in a cluster of their choice. It’s like recess for your brain!

family camping center overlooking Lake Mitchell with fishing, swimming, canoes, pedal boats, paddle boards, playground, hiking trail and a laundry facility. The campground includes 59 RV campsites with full hookups and 16 Tent Sites. The campground is open from April 1st through October 31st. Full hookups include water, sewer and electricity. RV sites have 50 amp or 30 amp sites available, tent sites with electricity are also available. Reservations begin online September 1st each year. Reservable dates are May 15 through September 15. First-come, first served sites are available daily but not guaranteed. Self-pay system is utilized for first-come, first-served. There is no manager on-site, campground hosts are available to assist campers.

We will play 18 holes at Kiwanis and 18 holes and Dry Run Creek. Results will be flighted with prizes for flight winners. Experience is not a requirement, HAVING FUN IS! Prior to the tournament there will be a free clinic focusing on the basics of Disc Golf. Local disc golfer and Mitchell resident, Cary Muilenburg, will present the clinic.
