BRIDGELANE DOMINATE AS
JENSEN PLOWRIGHT TAKES SYDNEY WIN NUMBER 4
Australian Continental squad Team Bridgelane featuring 9 elite riders
made a guest appearance at Week 7 of the Champion System Criteriums putting in a powerhouse team ride which delivered 20 yo sprint sensation Jensen Plowright to his 4th win in Sydney from as many starts. The team now head to this seasons first NRS race Tour de Tweed.
Not since the GB Track Squad turned up in February 2006 with Mark
Cavendish and Geraint Thomas in their ranks has there been such as a
dominant team display at Tuesday Night Racing. Back then C grade took line honours and on Tuesday it looked like a C grade win in the making
after A grade had a slower than usual start in the annoying easterly wind. Once A grade found their grove the closing 3 laps with Team Bridgelane
train in full flight had Strava records lighting up with the last lap catch recording a blistering 2.30sec lap at 50kph.
It was always going to be a tough ask for local fast man Jack Bennett to overcome the odds but he gave it red hot go coming at Plowright at the
finish to record a very respectable 2nd. Daniel Gandy was next best just
edging out Tom Chapman and Scott Law, but special mention must go to
Brad Mills and Paul Rowney for being the only other 2 riders in the mix at
the end. Impressive since both have full time family and business commitments.
Despite a mix up with the B grade presentation the clear winner was Finley Moutter coming home on the coat tails of the A grade sprint train proving
he’s well and truly ready for the step up next week. Nick Brain had his best result with second while Nick Delegat proved that racing to the line paid
off with third. Vas Zygouris has podiumed for the last 3 weeks and his hard work finally paid off with a comprehensive win in C grade. Justin Diddams is getting used to Heffron when he held off a fast finishing Michael Cross to claim second.
The queen of the women for the third time this season was Nicole Wilson who was just outside the podium to finish fourth.
A couple of unfortunate incidents during the race meant the Ambo’s were kept busy however its great to hear those involved are on the road to recovery.
