B GRADE HIT THE JACKPOT

AS SAM DOUGLAS LAUNCHES LAST LAP WINNING MOVE

B Grade finally got the win they’ve been searching for and hit the Jackpot when they collected an additional $400 from the Champion System Jackpot Kitty. It was the perfect storm for B grade – the absence of

several NRS A grade riders, the injection of the B1 riders who provided added horsepower and a massive NE wind across the track.

It all came down to a nail biting finish as a spectacular Sydney summer storm threatened to plunge Heffron Parkinto a giant swimming pool. With C grade caught in the closing 3 laps and a shattered A

grade out of contention all eyes were on who was going to be best in B grade.

At the bell Matt Curtin looked to have a small gap but his effort cost

him as he turned into the head wind. Sam Douglas seized his opportunity and like he has done in countless triathlons, buried his head and went for it.

These bold do or die efforts rarely pay off but with his tri pedigree

and horsepower to tap into Douglasheld the chasing bunch right to the line for a courageous win.

Behind him the B grade sprinters were all racing for second with

Simon Ball elatedly bagging his best Heffron result ever. Jack Renshaw came in third proving he’s riding better than he’s been letting

on. Big Dutchman Maarten Holsboer was rewarded with fourth while Ryan Scarf backed up last weeks good ride with fifth overall.

Justin Diddams was denied a C grade win a few weeks ago but

made sure of it this week with a strong top 15 finish, denying last

weeks winner Tom Collins who was second. Josh Heffernan had an-

other impressive ride for his third C grade podium in as many weeks. Hattie Lowden may have been the only woman finisher but still put

in great ride to finish a tough nights racing. A grade had to settle for leftovers as ZCC duo Mike Cupitt and Jack Bennett rolled in with

just enough time to dive for cover before the Armageddon deluge hit

Heffron. Next week will be the final Handicap for 2020 before the first of the Heffron Monuments, Easts Trophy Race and final race of the year on 15 December.
