DAN BONELLO BREAKS HIS TUESDAY NIGHT DROUGHT
Dan Bonello has ridden a lot of laps over the past 10 years at Heffron Park but the last lap in Round 4 of the Sydney City Subaru Summer Series was his most rewarding when he out rode, out foxed and out
sprinted the entire field to win his first ever Tuesday Night Race. After some 2000+ laps that’s gotta feel good!
Bonello’s uncompromising race ethic has always seen him ride in the service of others and this week was no different as he sought to set
up the win for Series leader and fellow ZZC team mate Jack Bennett who lead the rest of the field in for second.
Good result all round for ZCC which now gives Bennett a 9 point buffer back to Alex Nazarewicz who finished third.
The Heffron Park circuit recovered well from the weekend’s monster
rain and a big shout out to the Easts setup team lead by Pete Lawton for getting the track race ready. The return of the NE wind made for a tough nights racing and with 3 laps to go it almost looked like C grade would stay away for an overall win.
Their 20sec lead soon evaporated as A grade picked up the tempo
resulting in a hectic last lap into the wind with 50+ riders still hunting
for a place. Harrison Bailey and Cameron Fraser completed the top 5 for A grade but just two places back was C grade King Will Heffernan who crossed the line in a very impressive 8th overall.
One spot behind Robbie Allen finally got the B grade win he has
been looking for with Nick Coster and Adam McCoy keeping their B grade dreams alive.
Quinten Smyth slipped into the top 15 to claim 2ndspot in C grade
while Emma Roberts good form continues to yield results with 3rdin C grade and 1st woman home.
Leader’s jerseys remain largely the same with 4 of the 5 leaders
making the podium. New B grade leader next week will be Robbie Allen who nudged 1 point clear of Adam McCoy
