LUKE ROPER WINS BIG AS B GRADE TAKE LINE HONOURS Another dramatic finish and another 1st time winner as 17yo Luke Roper
nailed the biggest win of his very young cycling career when he out sprinted the entire field to win Round 8 of Sydney City Skoda Summer series.
A grade had way too much traffic to negotiate on the last lap so the big prize was always going B grade’s way for only the second time in the Series. Oliver Penney who has improved in every race this year looked to have it won for the entire length of the straight……until super smooth Luke Roper took the outside line to pip him on the line.
Strong ride from Chris Reynolds to finish 3rd in his first podium since return-
ing to Sydney. Strongman Chris Ling had to settle for 4th but may have been still thawing out from his 3 Peaks ride, while Lloyd Carroll finished 5th.
The win also gives Luke Roper a narrow margin in the B grade series in front of Robbie Allen who suffered a couple of ill timed mechanicals.
New winner in C grade with Camilo Garcia getting his first points of season with a strong ride to beat youngster Brayden Bloch. C grade leader Will
Heffernan was out of the points and now only has a small 3pt margin back to Nosh Mistry who was 3rd.
Nicole Wilson has picked up a couple of podiums in the womens comp and
finally came up with a well deserved win to deny inform, series leader Emma Roberts on the line. Roberts has an unbeatable lead with only two races left but once again all the women raced competitively with Nicole Oh, Harriet Lowden and Amy Vesty all finishing a super fast race.
Finally to A grade who were a little light on numbers and just missed out on
overall glory by 500 metres. It wasn’t for the lack of trying with the fastest lap EVER recorded at Heffron Park with new Strava KOM Jack Bennett recording 2.26 with a 50kph average.
Very impressive with 10 corners, Heffron’s surface and 50 other riders to weave through!
The effort won Jack Bennett the A grade envelope with Alex Nazarewicz bridesmaid again while Dan Bonello was third.
Two more races to go and still a lot to race for to decide who the Season 35 Champions will be.
