2019 Anthony Spurgeon (Snr) Memorial PARABÉNS AO RODRIGO
Conducted over the 15 lap handicap format B and C
grades grade lined up to contest one of Tuesday Night
Heffron’s popular annual Memorial races in memory of Anthony Spurgeon Snr.
55 starters across 2 grades with B grade boasting the
stronger group of over 30 riders. No A grade to rely on so it
was all up to B grade to see whether they could close down the 50sec gap to C grade on their own. Two laps in and it
looked like C grade were going to stay away all night. Even at 5 laps to Race Commentator Paul Craft was predicting a resounding win by C grade and as Crafty will tell you, he’s never wrong.
At the bell B grade could finally sense a win although it still took an impressive effort from Mathieu Bremaud to finally round up C grade and set up the win.

1 Rodrigo Coxa Notaro (DHBC) B
has quietly asserted his strength and power in recent weeks notched up Brazil’s biggest cycling win since Mauro Ribeiro won a stage in the 1991 Tour.
In the excitement and in his first race back at Heffron
this season Anthony Fortuna came home strongly for second in what will likely be his last race in C grade. Matheiu Bremaud still had enough juice left to make the podium for 3rd.
Also in first race back at Heffron this season now that USA/ North Korea Summit is over Young Chang stormed home
for an impressive 4th, but one of the best results was to see Brad Martin finish 5th.
Brad and his brother Abe, who seem to struggle a little with the early pace, never miss an Anthony Spurgeon
Memorial race and drove up from Wollongong (for the
second time this year) to compete. It’s a great example of the friendship and support for one Tuesday Night
Heffron’s much loved events which one again summed up another fantastic edition.

Within a lap the gap looked dangerous and initial efforts from Crit Dawg Alex Nazarewicz didn’t dent the margin until powerhouse Jesse Coyle rode across solo to increase Nero’s presence and add some firepower. Now the break really was a threat with suggestions that Liam Kelly or Dave Evans might turn back the clock yet again to become the new King of the Trophy Race.
