LUKE CRIDLAND OUTSMARTS THE FIELD FOR SOLO WIN

The Cridland family name has been part of Heffron Park

folklore ever since the old migrant centre was converted into a cycling circuit in 1978 but rarely has the name ever been associated with a bold last lap move to snatch a win.

Luke Cridland rewrote the Crido family cycling race strategy of ‘sit on for the sprint’, originally written by Ken, when he

cleverly followed a move initiated by Pete Livingstone on the last lap. With one sole C grade rider Alex Lowe still up road

Crido then launched his winning move on the pimple into the headwind to steal the gap which he held to the line giving himself enough time to celebrate a fine win.

Darcy Ellerm-Norton lead the chasing bunch in on another

night of blustery NE winds which decimated the 90+ strong field with only 28 riders finishing in the front group.

After being caught with 5 laps to go there were only 3 B

grade riders left in contention in the front group and after 2

podiums in recent weeks it was good to see Jason Thomas achieve a well deserved win in B grade. Chris Ball was a close second, while big wave pro surfer, turned triathlete

and cycling newcomer Clint Kimmons toughed it out come home an impressive 3rd.

For the second week in a row Alex Lowe’s gutsy last lap attack from C grade has cost him dearly as after being

swamped on the last lap by the charging A grade bunch,

while Jamie Dunn has bided his time perfectly to finish claim C grade again.

Also in the mix were Darren Pavey and Dave Watkinson

who despite being one of the more ‘senior’ members of C grade always finds himself in the right spot at the finish. The gusty conditions at Heffron always make it a tough

night for the women but Gina Ricardo, Jennifer Kay, Emma

Roberts and Charlotte Culver all rode impressively with Anna Booth finishing the best and earning her first podium spot.

THE KING of HE ANTHONY SPURGEON

“I’ve received hundreds of messages over the last few weeks.

Yes, it is correct. I wasn’t a Heffron to witness another classic race or two. But I have people everywhere to help me. I am THE KING.” THE KING rates for us the top place getters of Tuesday Night Heffron Week 7.

1st A: Luke Cridland Let’s get one thing straight, the Cridland family race strategy was written by me, THE KING. I’ve taught everyone here how to race and has anyone ever listened? Partially....everyone all sits on. I guess your unexpected attack was due to needing a bathroom visit and you needed the race over. 2nd A: Peter Livingstone When I coached you over at SUVelo you took note. Sit on and follow. Just you didn’t practise following the leader too well 3rd A: D’Arcy Ellerm-Norton D-man. I had to laugh this week. Rampant jealousy from the rear of the peleton. No doubt your reply will be to attack more for more photos. 4th A: Jack Bennett “Life is like a box of chocolates..” only you don’t seem to eat them all any more. Don’t elevate yourself yet after a win here on the weekend. That was only worth half a win - it wasn’t Tuesday night 5th A: Jesse Coyle I don’t recall. Did I show you the finer points of winning at a SUVelo training camp? I don’t recall. Sydney cycling clubs seem to love BLUE. Everyone looks the same. Except for you and me. You want to be but I am. THE KING

1st B: Jason Thomas Tuesday night. A Grade. Hope you packed a clear pair of knicks as you’re gonna need them. 2rd B: Chris Ball MWCC. My guess is that this placing has resulted in about a 1000 social media postings. Be sure to crack open a Manly Heffron kit...you know, the blue one for next week 3rd B: Clint Kimmins Seems those grey outfits with a slash of pink are becoming rare, by the week. Might be time to join a cycling club that focusses on winning, not looking good. 1st C: Jamie DUNN Could someone else other than another Manly rider win a race please. Didn’t I say that last week? Is C-Grade part of the MWCC club champs? 2nd C: Fabian Kegel With a name like Fabian I bet you can ride. Or think you can. Bit like me. The King of Heffron, says it all really. 3rd C: Watts Davidson Shit man, Mr Perpetual Motion. Are you still wearing that stupid piece of sticky tape on your nose like I recommended. It was a practical joke!!! On you!! 1st Anna Frances Clearly you don’t mind a bit of wind to ride into and with. Must be that Melbourne four seasons in one day upbringing.
