PIERRE GERVOIS PAINTER OF THE UNTOLD

The Face of America Magazine

The “To Allege” series has been created in Pierre Gervois’ studio in New York City in April 2020 during the COVID-19 confinement in effect in the state of New York, using discarded canvases found in the streets of his Brooklyn neighborhood (Bedford-Stuyvesant). As Pierre Gervois was running low on black paint, he diluted the remaining black paint with white paint to create this grey color, never used before to paint his subjects. “To Allege” is composed of seven paintings of different sizes (the first four paintings of the series having the same size). Pierre Gervois applied multiple layers of white latex paint on the surface of each canvas, leaving just the topographic traces of the original pictures & paintings now laying beneath the paintings. During the confinement period, as our lives are temporarily suspended, the artist explores who we really are: Is it our alleged lives, where we present ourselves in a perfectly polished way, or shall we leave the scars of our past to outcrop? These paintings are made to be observed very closely, under different lightings, to reveal the topographic details.

Boca Raton Museum of Art Launches New Online Community Initiatives with “Eye to I: Self Portraits from the National Portrait Gallery

The Face of America Magazine

The term self-conscious takes on a whole new meaning in today’s social media era. At a time when millions of selfies are posted every day and identity is proving to be more fluid, this exhibition from the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery shines a new light on self-portraiture and representation. The show was created to commemorate the National Portrait Gallery’s 50th anniversary, celebrating the artists who make the NPG Collection so extraordinary. Eye to I brings together the work of major artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, at the Boca Raton Museum of Art. The powerful works are from every decade, starting in 1901 and continuing through 2015.

The Face of America Magazine

“Art, culture, and creativity have always made a difference in powerful ways, especially during challenging times,” said Irvin Lippman, the executive director of the Boca Raton Museum of Art. “While the Museum is temporarily closed, we will continue to give back to the community. Being inspired and creative have not been canceled. These artists in Eye to I made a lasting mirror effect of themselves, creating a very personal art that engages us – the viewer.” adds Lippman.

The Face of America Magazine

Guided by Professor Andrew Lear, the tour explores male members in paintings and sculptures across the Metropolitan. Are these artworks true to life size? Were men really smaller once upon a time? And who broke off the statues’ missing body parts? Is there hidden phallic symbolism in your favorite painting? For museum-goers who’ve ever wondered about these and other questions, this tour has the answers. Visitors learn about the aesthetic ideals of Greek culture and how they have affected the whole history of art without clothes.

Shady Ladies Tours' art museum tours introduce art lovers to some of the sexiest and sauciest works of art in New York City. Led personally by Professor Andrew Lear, a leading scholar on the history of sexuality and one of the foremost experts on erotic Greek and Roman art, the tours reveal the scandalous back-stories behind paintings and sculptures in major New York City museums. Tours include Nasty Women of the Metropolitan, Shady Ladies of the Metropolitan and Gay Secrets of the Metropolitan. With his groundbreaking work on the history of art and his long experience as a scholar and teacher, Professor Lear is an ideal guide to give tour-goers an entirely new (and naughty) perspective on both classic and little-known pieces of art.

GROUNDED WINES CALIFORNIA WINES

On the night of July 20, 1969, we stared at the moon and listened to the radio chatter of the Apollo 11 astronauts. The quality and personality lies in its self-awareness; sensitive to the zeitgeist while acknowledging its role as part of an ongoing story. HOMES

AUSTIN, TX, HISTORIC PALAZZO LAVACA

The Face of America Magazine

One of America’s fastest growing towns and tech hot spots, Austin, Texas has retained much of its Old West vibe and vibrant history including an 1890 building that was first a firehouse and then the worldfamous Capitol Saddlery where custom-made-cowboy boots were sold for thousands of dollars. Later, it was reborn as a stunning residence and event space while retaining much of its historical charm. Now for sale, the former Capitol Saddlery is priced at $4.95 million including the neon-lit boot above the home’s entrance.

The Face of America Magazine

The unassuming building facade could easily be taken for almost any other Austin building near the University of Texas were it not for the gigantic boot above the entrance - a clue that it was formerly home to Capitol Saddlery. The owner was T.C. “Buck” Steiner, a gruff rodeo rider with up to 100 employees, but the star was Charlie Dunn, a boot maker that Jerry Jeff Walker wrote a song about in 1972.

The Face of America Magazine

From the number of celebrities who have walked through its front door to choose the style of their next pair of pricey cowboy boots to the tinkle of cocktail glasses from the party in the gilded ballroom, Austin has it going on. Now for sale, Palazzo Lavaca is priced at $4.95 million, listed by Kumara Wilcoxon of Kuper Sotheby’s International Realty in Austin. Top Ten Real Estate Deals
