SUJATA SINGH -Taken by Pitanjal Datta What would be your definition for YOGA? Ans) Yoga word itself means union- ‘union of body and mind, Some says union of soul and spirit. Our YogaInspiration-Sujata Singh

If you ask me what is yoga- yoga is union of consciousness and unconsciousness, in fact yoga is way of living where we start our journey with simple joints movements, breathing, yoga postures and pranayama and finally leads to meditation. According to my point of view Yoga is a kind of system where one follows physical asana with deep breathing, which create awareness about how to endure strength in your body and control over mind which gives channelize towards meditation. We all are moving towards materialistic goals. While achieving these gaols some where we are ignoring ourselves. Nobody is working on ‘who I am’Practicing . yoga gives sense towards self.

Yoga needs practice. The more you practice, the more you succeed. I am teaching from kids of 3 years to 90 years old person.


Are there any pre requisites in connection to body types that are required to start YOGA or anyone with any body type can enrol with you for doing YOGA? Ans) As per as my teaching experience you don’t need any specific body type for yoga, but all you need is a yoga expert who can understand your body type.For instance if your body is stiff your yoga teacher can guide you proper way to make it flexible and subtle.

One can start with simple joint exercises of yoga and move up to higher level of yoga practices by adopting yoga in life as routine. There is a saying that YOGA helps curing diseases and certain ailments? How far do you believe in this? Ans) Of course yoga can cure many diseases and ailments whether it’s physical or psychological. In my eight years journey of teaching yoga I met many kind of patients like diabetic, asthmatic, heart patients, depressed mental patients. I treated them with yoga therapy.

For every disease and problem I make them do different yoga poses with breathing, pranayama, relaxation and meditation. I treated many patients and now they adopted yoga for life long because Yoga is like life saving medicine for them. Give us one basic and most important difference that we can spot between a person who does Yoga and a person who does not, in first glimpse? Ans) As i am stating in above answers benefits of yoga that regular practice provides stamina and strength, enables a person to work tirelessly and effectively all day. Those who practice yoga can be seen calm, relaxed and focused at work whole day as compare to others. It’s their regular practice which enables them work efficiently with loads of day to day life challenges and stress. For them practicing meditation and asana are easy to do and they can use yogic techniques a therapy anytime

SUJATA SINGH How far can YOGA contribute to body building like toning of muscles, six pack abs, biceps and triceps, pelvic muscles?Can YOGA be a substitute to going to GYM? Ans) Yoga builds strength in bones, because you use your own body weight while performing yoga poses. Yoga is weight bearing, it helps in toning and conditioning of core, triceps, biceps, core and pelvic muscles. Yoga can be a substitute for gym if the diet and some specific of set yoga poses just for 30 minutes a day are followed appropriately. Your inspiration in your profession? Ans) I still remember, during my school days my father used to start his day with yoga and so I started doing yoga as a part of game. Somewhere he is my inspiration for my profession and my life and of course my yoga guru Mr.Rajeev Maken. When people who are stiff go to you what do you do to make them flexible? Ans) That’s a good question being yoga teacher’s face this most of the time.As I mentioned above yoga has specific postures for each aspect whether its flexibility, strength, stamina or so on.Being a yoga teacher I tell them if you are stiff that doesn’t mean that u can’t gain flexibility. Take it on a positive way, stiff people usually have more strength as compare to flexible ones. They can do much more balancing and strengthening yoga poses and with regular practice of yoga they gradually increase flexibility also.


Main benefit of regular yoga is to control your hormones , if your hormones are in control you can achieve any kind of fitness goal with yoga like weight loss, inch loss, muscle strength, flexibility improvement, maintaining body shape Yoga is a never ending journey, it needs infinite number of small steps to move towards each fitness goals.

Can YOGA stretches be painful at times? What are the painful stretches of YOGA? What precautions do you take before making your clients do such painful stretches? Ans) It’s true that some stretches are painful for beginners. While teaching I keep this in mind if someone is new to yoga I teach them basic joint moments to build up strength and endurance in muscle once they able to do basic stretches then intermediate level poses and finally I teach them advance postures. What are the different FITNESS goals that you train for? Ans) My teaching method is very simple everyone should follow one motto “I LOVE MYSELF AND I SHALL STAY HEALTHY”

Teach us one YOGA stretch/asana for obtaining the following goals: a) Biceps and triceps toning b) For increasing height c) For correcting posture d) Overall body toning Talking about above mentioned needs we have so many yoga postures for every aspect like:

Suryanamaskara for overall body toning Tadasna for height improvement Vajrasana for posture correction Downward dog pose, plank to chattering for arms toning. So there are many postures for each aspect in yoga. If you ask me only one pose for all these things then I will suggest Chakrasana (wheel pose) Wheel pose stimulates thyroid gland which is responsible for height improvement. Wheel pose helpful for vertebrae alignment which is responsible for posture maintaining. While performing this pose you balances over your arms which tones your biceps and triceps.

We are an avid follower of your blog. Any future plans to write a book? Ans) God willing, at a suitable and right time shall surely pen a book about my experiences and share some valuable information about Yoga and Fitness which would be my contribution to the welfare of the society.

A major misconception of Yoga that you would like to change? Ans) Most people think yoga is boring, slow and it is just for flexible people. Truth is that you don’t need to have flexible body. The less you flexible more you have to gain and more you do efforts

I always try to make them do di ferent styles of yoga like Ashtanga -vinyasa yoga ,Hatha Yoga and sometimes mixture of different form of yoga, Meditation sessions etc.

Ans) I feel my students are very dedicated and punctual for yoga. They love doing yoga with me. They don’t feel lazy yes of course sometimes they feel lack of energy. But once they entered the yoga session and they are on YOGA MAT they are absolutely fine, that’s the magic of yoga and vibrations of yoga room I believe.

Ans) You forgot to ask about role of breathing while yoga, will tell you – breathing is base of yoga. Whenever you perform some yoga postures with breathing and you hold proper breathing while holding posture, you releases muscular and mental both kind of tensions from your body. You feel more and more relaxed with each Breathe.
