NOTE FROM THE EDITOR Change is good! You hear that all the time, and in most cases, it is hard to argue that theory. With the New Year, you start to think about improvements and resolutions. When I think back to turning 30, a few years ago, it was full on panic mode! All the questions came up that were natural for most of us. I decided to take one thing at a time and made sure to get things going in the right direction. In that 5 year timeframe, a lot has happened. I got married, had a baby, changed careers for my day job, started this magazine, and traveled like a madman. Looking back, there wasn't anything I was doing wrong. It was just time to make some changes. In this issue we feature a close friend that nearly lost his life. Evan Geiselman's accident at Hawaii really hit home to so many of us. We were all worried about his recovery, and it was a scary moment for his family and friends. As I spoke with Evan after his accident, you could tell that he realized how precious life is. Not that he needed to make a change, because his parents raised him to be super humble and polite, but he realized a few important things. The main thing is never take life for granted. Tell your family you love them on a daily basis and savor every moment. Whether you are on the right path or need some guidance, take things one day at a time, but make sure that you plan for the future. Time creeps up on you, and preparation is the key to make each transition. For the start of 2016, find ways to improve and keep progressing. Look at life like you might not get a second chance. Life and your health is everything. Cheers to a great 2016! BRYAN FORAND Founder / Editor

BOUNCING

BACK On December 6th, a person very close to our hearts, Evan Geiselman, had to be rescued from the water after suffering a wipeout at Pipeline on the North Shore of Hawaii. Geiselman took off on a 15 to 20 feet Second Reef wave that initially looked makeable, but the bottom dropped out and the wave shut down. As the wave closed out, there was little he could do. The aftermath of the closeout, he was dragged under for a three-wave hold-down before, South African bodyboarder, Andre Botha came to his aid. Thankfully for Geiselman, two-time world bodyboarding champion, Botha had just kicked out of a wave nearby and immediately went looking for him under the surface. After pulling Geiselman up, Botha administered CPR while doing everything in his will power to keep him afloat. As the pair were swept down the beach, local lifeguards and a large contingent of surfers, swam Geiselman to shore, where he was rushed to the hospital. Since the accident, all our prayers have been answered, and Evan has made a full recovery. Botha is truly a guardian angel in our minds, and we are so thankful he was there that day. Andre Botha will forever be a hero in our minds.

WITH EVAN GEISELMAN

Great to speak with you after your traumatic experience. We are beyond happy that you are making a full recovery. How have you been spending your time since you arrived in Florida after the accident? Thank You! I’m so excited to be home for the Holidays and to see my family and friends! That accident really put a lot of things in perspective for me, and I’m just thankful to be here with everyone. Was it overwhelming the amount of attention that you received from the accident? It really freaked me out how much love was coming my way. Like, I didn’t really know how gnarly it was. When I woke up, before I even watched a video of the wipeout, I was on my girlfriends phone and went on instagram. I was just blown away by all the support. Then I got my phone the next day, and I just broke down. It all hit me at once. The emotion was like something I’ve never felt before. When you were sitting in the hospital, did you have a recollection of what just happened? No. I woke up with a breathing tube down my throat and almost started to freak out cause I didn’t remember anything. But my girlfriend and brother(Eric) were right there calming me down, and I just kind of meditated for a few hours before they took that thing out. That was the worst part for me of the whole accident.

me now. It’s just the smallest thing you never notice that seem like a big deal to me now. It’s just an absolute miracle I am here right now. We at Fluid have been close with the Geiselman family since you were a baby, and know your mom and dad very well. Has mom become protective of what waves you’ll tackle in the future? My Mom has always warned me about dangerous conditions and she always worries. The thing is, I tell her I was surfing that day because I enjoy pushing myself in waves like that. My goal every winter is to get a big pipe barrel. That day was gnarly and not ideal pipe, but the crowd was mellow. So, I thought I had a window where I could sneak a magic one. Before that session, I wasn’t planning on even surfing and I told my mom that. But, funny enough, I saw Andre get a mental one, so I rushed out. I had a weird feeling, “like whoa, it’s really gnarly out here”, but never thinking what happened would happen. That wipeout is not going to make me stop surfing when it’s big out there, but it’s going to educate me on how dangerous it really is out there and other waves. I will be trained better for those type of waves, from holding my breath to knowing how to save

I've had the time with them over the last couple weeks that have brought us all closer. My girlfriend Maddie is an angel. She hasn’t left my side for more the 2 minutes the entire time. I love her so much! She was there on the beach along with my brother, and I was telling them if that was me in their shoes I’d of freaked out. They were both so solid the whole time. My brother really was the best big brother you could be and handled the whole situation unbelievably. I can’t thank him and his girlfriend Bree enough. Then my dad came over, also, with his girlfriend Heather, which was awesome and great support. It was awesome. I think my mom used all of her phone minutes, cause she never left the phone the entire week I was there before coming home. My mom is the absolute best and I love her so much. Getting off that plane, seeing her, and getting a big hug and kiss felt like I was 10 again coming in from a mini grom heat right into moms arms on the beach. Ha, it was great.

I feel 2016 is going to be great. The plan is always to have fun and enjoy every minute. Getting back to better than I was before, which I don’t think will take long, but once my health is right, I will do everything in my power to make the world tour! That’s my goal for my career. I want to be on tour, and I want to make it this year!

My spirit is 150%, but my body is not there yet. I think another couple of weeks, and I should be great. I lost a lot of weight in a week, so my strength has to come back, and I’m starting to train again. I won’t be surfing for a while cause of the concussion. I haven’t had any symptoms of having a concussion since the accident, though. The Doctor wants me out for 6 weeks just to be sure. I’m hoping mid-January to be all good to get back in the water.

It made me look at everything differently. The gift of life and being healthy gets over looked so much. I am beyond blessed and have taken many things for granted over the years. The fact that I’m home with the people I love for the holidays right now is the best feeling ever! Waking up every morning and having a coffee, it’s the littlest of things that are unbelievable to

I know that your family and girlfriend Maddie, were by your side the entire time. Any words that you would like to express to them?

What are your plans for 2016 and your career?

Are you at 100% right now? Has there been any rehabilitation?

We all were so scared as we heard the news from Hawaii. Has it changed your outlook on life?

someone if I ever had to be put in that position. The fact Andre knew the rescue breath and performed that in the water on me is what saved my life. It was a miracle that just doesn’t happen, but did.

Thank you for sitting down with us. So glad you are safe EG. Any last words or shout outs?

"Waking up every morning and having a coffee, it’s the littlest of things that are unbelievable to me now. It’s just the smallest thing you never notice that seem like a big deal to me now."

Thank you guys! Andre was a guardian angel. This situation had to play out exactly how it did, or there is no way I would be here. Thank you GOD for the blessing of a 2nd chance at life and living my dream. Everyone, the loving and supportive wishes have been overwhelming. I can’t wait to be back in the water with y’all. It’s a real privilege being from New Smyrna Beach. There is nowhere else I’d want to represent in this world. Thank you all!

01 SURF AMBASSADOR EROS EXARHOU How do you budget for trips? I try to be smart and not blow a lot of money on trips, that's key. The only thing I spend ALL of my money on is food. I'm a health freak, so it's always expensive anywhere I go. Other than that I just save money and go as many places as possible.

PHOTO: COURTESY OF EROS EXARHOU

SURF PHOTOS: GREG GYSELINCK

The beautiful thing about surfing is that anyone can find their niche. It just takes the right combination of work ethic and passion for surf travel. We'd like to introduce you to our friend and Ormond Beach native, Eros Exarhou, who seems to be finding his niche in all the right locations. In this interview we're gonna pick his brain on how he's making his dream career a reality. Take notes my friends! Hi Eros! Where are you right now? I'm in Puerto Rico at the moment. Tell us more. Where else have you been this year? Man, I've been bouncing around; Indonesia for two months, Hawaii, California, Puerto Rico, and of course home for some Fluid parties! How do you maintain a living with all your traveling? A little bit of everything type of work, haha.. Between sponsors and my social media, I've found ways to make some cash. Do you miss home ever? Of course. Especially lately now that I just bought my first boat. I've been fishing a bunch when I'm in town. I also love golfing when I'm home! What goals do you have in your career at this point? Well for this next year, I'm focusing on growing my YouTube channel, modeling, and of course maintaining my surf travels.

Any tips on how to find affordable lodging & flights? Make a lot of friends, haha... I try my best to make as many connections as I can around the world, then I always stay in contact, so when I wanna return I feel welcome. As for flights, I usually book it last-minute, so sometime I eat the bar, and sometimes the bar eats me. In this case the bar is the airlines, haha. Tell us a travel horror story. Ever been really sick or robbed while traveling? Nothing too scary, thankfully, but this year in Bali, I dropped my wallet while I was on my moped. When I looked back I saw a local pick it up and take off. I turned my bike around and raced as fast as I could. Somehow I caught up with him, pulled him over in the middle of the road, and made him give me my wallet back. He asked for money, so being the good Samaritan I am, I gave him 50 cents, haha.

What's your favorite destination to travel and why? So far, this year I was really loving Indo and all the islands around it. I felt super in tune there. That place is definitely magical.

What advise would you give to someone looking to take a similar career path? Make connections, love the life you live, and love everyone around you.

Any last shout-outs? Shout out to Mother Nature for all the amazing places I get to travel to and experience! And of course thank you, Fluid Magazine!

02 SOCIAL MEDIA KINGS JEREMY JOHNSTON & DYLAN HUTCH Something happened to us a few years back, and life will never be the same. Quietly, and without our approval, a new responsibility was added to our job descriptions: brand ambassador. It happened to each of us the first time we made company related posts on social media. But this responsibility was never agreed upon, and therefore the ramifications of failing to meet the duties associated with it haven't been fully considered. We spoke with local social media experts, Jeremy Johnston & Dylan Hutch (founders of NSB Inlet) to hear a little more about what separates business & pleasure on today's social media channels.

Let's assume for a moment we're cavemen, explain to us what social media is and how it works? Social Media is huge because people figured out how to use it to promote themselves on a world wide scale! It's the new way to advertise these days for any human, business, restaurant, brand… Whatever! It's the best for sharing products and ideas in everyones everyday lifestyle. The sky is the limit in the social media world! You guys created a local lifestyle handle, "NSB Inlet”. Tell us about how you got started and where you'd like to see it go? Well, I started using #newsmyrnabeach and noticing how many people were using that hashtag in NSB. So, I thought about what we call where we surf everyday, NSB INLET. I used it as a hashtag, #nsbinlet, the first time at NSSA Easterns like 4 years ago. Every photo I posted after that had #nsbinlet on it. Then I started seeing the hashtag catch on and other people using it too. I talked to one of my best homies Dylan Hutchinson about it and we came up with the Instagram handle @nsbinlet. The rest is history! What the heck is a hashtag, seriously? How much does having the correct hashtag help gain followers? Hashtags are like google for that word or saying that you use. To use the right ones are just as important as the picture you are posting. We started off by using our own photos, local photographers, or like it says in our profile, use our HASHTAG to be featured. The hashtag blew up right away! We were getting tagged in almost every photo taken here in NSB. Which hashtags do you love/hate? LOVE: #nsbinlet, #newsmyrnabeach, #lovefl,

PHOTOS: RUDDY

#howiflo HATE: none Why is social media so important, and how do you think it effects society? Social Media updates anyone and everyones life at any moment. It remembers everything you have done through out your life. It’s linked to everything. Basically it’s your physical resume. Use it as a public voice or positive influence or just use it to share and remember the best moments of your life. Social media fills us in immediately on everything around the world. If you think it’s crazy, scary, or not, we are all connected now to everything. If you use social media as a tool correctly, the success will follow. Let's say we're a local start-up restaurant, what recommendations would you give them? Branding, products, hard work, and, last but not

least, delivery. Like, deliver your best products, dish, ideas, you personally, and all those other things I listed will show. What makes a good post and why? Its simple. A great picture with a great quote. Thats why! Any last words? My last words about being an "EXPERT" is that I just was really interested in social media when it first started and look where it took me. I just want to let all the youth know that to be great at something is a tough road, but all that hard work you put into it will pay off when you least expect it! You have to go see the ups and downs to be the best at anything. Thank you to everyone out there that has been supporting us. It’s been an awesome two years!

03 CULINARY QUEEN MACKENZIE SMITH A.K.A 'GRILLED CHEESE SOCIAL'

What’s your favorite recipe from your blog? That would probably be my classic Grilled Cheese Social sandwich that I always sell at my pop-ups. Loaded with my homemade bacon jam, a beautiful 3 year cheddar from Wisconsin and homemade pickled jalapeños, this grilled cheese encompasses all the attributes that make food delicious to me - sweet, spicy, rich, tart, creamy, crispy and savory. It just doesn’t get any better than that! What has been your most gratifying moment in your career? I can never pick just one so I’ll share a few memorable moments. The first being the day About.com asked me to be their Sandwich Expert. Next would be getting sent to Europe for a 3 part pop-up series. Then there was the live cooking segment on a CBS morning show. But best of all was the part where my obsessive social media-

What 3 ingredients would you bring on a deserted island with you? Cheese, cheese, and more cheese! Jk, jk… but seriously It would probably be a raw milk cheese, a nice bottle of bourbon, and a neverending crusty french baguette.

PHOTO: GUNNER HUGHES

What plans do you have for 2016? More traveling, writing, and documenting! My dream for 2016 is for my boyfriend, Jeremy Johnston, and I to take a month long trip where we basically surf and eat our way through a foreign country and share our journey through beautiful pictures, inspired recipes, and dope videos.

Your favorite junk food? A classic grilled cheese, fountain cherry coke, and loads of Zapp’s Voodoo Potato chips. All day, all the way. What’s your biggest failure ever in the kitchen? I can’t really think of one failure that haunts me from my past, but I do have one obstacle that I can’t seem to overcome. My mom and I joke around that it’s in our blood to burn bread. Whether it’s popping frozen garlic bread in the oven, baking biscuits that I spent an hour preparing, or reheating delivery pizza, I’m guaranteed to forget about it and burn it to a crisp. What trends do you see for 2016? I definitely see a trend towards going back to natural. Focusing on vegetables more than meat and buying local. For more info, check out our NSB Bites page that Jeremy and I wrote which breaks down 16 food trends we expect to see in 2016. Where can we find out more about the lovely Mackenzie and your amazing recipes? You can follow me on instagram at @ grilledcheesesocial and check out my blog at www.GrilledCheeseSocial.com for my bio, recipes, current projects, pop-up schedule, videos and more. What do you consider healthy cooking? To me, healthy cooking isn’t about eliminating bad ingredients but rather bringing more nutritious foods into the mix. Eating a diet full of colorful, diversified, and seasonal ingredients will not only make you feel better, but it will also inspire you to get creative and try new things, which is what I’m all about.

ing led me to meet the man of my dreams. I could never imagine that posting a picture of a Bloody Mary from Outriggers Tiki Bar in New Smyrna Beach would lead me to such an inspirational and passionate person!

PHOTO: RUDDY

What inspired your love of food, and how did you learn to cook? As cliche as it sounds, my family is definitely my biggest inspiration and the driving force behind my love obsession for food. They’re all amazing cooks that I look up to, and I think it’s because of this that I honestly don’t even remember learning how to cook. It’s just a part of my identity. When I think about it all I feel super fortunate to have a family that has always been supportive of my desire to cook, regardless of all the messes I’ve made, the different paths I’ve taken, and the money I’ve spent trying to figure it out. Leaving Brooklyn to move down to Florida to become the chef at my family’s boutique inn, Black Dolphin Inn, has certainly fostered my creativity, helped me realize the importance of supporting the “local” movement, and has reminded me of the significance of learning something new each day.

FASHION RETAILER JAYMI SCHULZ Tell me about your stores and how you got started? How I got started? Well, I have always been in retail, from selling on the sales floor, to managing, buying, and merchandising. Basically, over the years I have covered all aspects and really enjoyed it. I never really sought after owning my own store. It was one of those goals you have in the back of your mind and think how awesome it would be but never actively pursued anything. When it was presented to me, I automatically called my mom, Mary Johnston, and told her about a business venture we had to go in on. The rest is history. 10 years and 2 stores later here we are, still passionate and enjoying what we do. How different is the surf industry from the boutique world? Haha, for me? Very! I come from being a men's buyer and manager, so everything was a little more numbers and spread sheets. With buying, it was mostly analyzing inventory turns and now everything is "so cute" or "hot" or “sexy." It’s been a fun transition for me and it’s so rewarding to hear our customers tell us about a dress or bathing suit they bought and how many complements they received. It’s nice to see them excited and feel confident. It means we are doing our job when our customers trust us to stylize them for their special events or that special date night.

We specialize in Brazilian swimwear, but we do also have full coverage. I myself always recommend a seamless bottom. This helps to cut out any of the muffin top imperfections. I also try to get our customers into a bottom that compliments their booty.

Why is it more important to shop in stores opposed to online? That one is tough for me. I have actually been very focused on our online store, seilove.com, as of late. It is another aspect of our business that we are building. We are able to reach our customers out of state, out of town, and also for customers that are just unable to make it into the boutiques for the new arrivals. We are treating our online store just like our brick and mortar stores, where we receive new merchandise every week. Plus, what girl doesn't like to shop online in her pj's with a glass of wine? For us having both an online presence and a brick and mortar store compliment each other.

What is the best tradeshow for you and why? Miami of course! Everyone is so dressed up, it’s right on the beach, the shopping, the dining/ entertainment, hotels, and it’s in South Beach. Need I say more!

You started a swim line recently. What are some of your inspirations and what are you excited about debuting? We have started a swimwear line and we are excited to showcase it in our boutiques this spring. Our inspiration comes from our love of swimwear and of course our boutiques. We wanted to create a line that plays off of our style of clothing.

Any last words or shout outs? Shout out of course to my girls Kayla & Kyra Schulz! I would also like to give a shout out to The Lewis family, their sweet daughter Abbey suffered a brain aneurysm in November and she is now working hard at Brooks Rehabilitation. She is doing great but just want her to know that we all love her!! #abbeystrong

Shopping for a swimsuit can be really stressful for ladies. What are some tips for finding that perfect suit? Searching for that perfect suit is stressful! We work hard training our staff on understanding the different cuts of swimwear for different body types.

What is your style philosophy? It all depends on the way they feel in the outfit or bathing suit. It’s all on attitude. If you are comfortable and feel confident then that's the outfit or suit you want to go with. You don't want to be uncomfortable or insecure of what you’re wearing, that can ruin a night out. Go with something that you’re going to love.

05 FISHING GUIDE CAPTAIN WILLY LE Willy Le is a Full Time guide in East Central Florida. Born on the Island of Guam with a Vietnamese background, Will was only one when he, his Mom, Dad, and five siblings moved to Florida in 1980. He grew up fishing the lakes and ponds of Orlando and the saltwater flats from Flagler County down to the Florida Keys. After he graduated high school, he discovered the art of sight fishing for Redfish and Tarpon in the pristine waters of the Mosquito Lagoon, which runs along the Canaveral National Seashore. Will found his passion for fly fishing shortly after he met fly fishing legends Flip Pallot and Chico Fernandez while working as a camera boat operator for one of Flip's T.V. shows. He was so fascinated with the art of fly casting from watching the legends that he went and purchased a fly rod the next day. After years of practice and a few words of wisdom from Flip Pallot, Willy Le has become a well-known fly fisherman/fly fishing guide. Sit back and enjoy, as we get insider tips and hear more about the fish master Willy Le.

more like hunting here, once you find fish, you have to entice them to eat at any time of day. It takes a lot of work, local knowledge, and patience to fish this area. What I love about Central Florida is that we have a pretty wide variety of species to sight fish for in the same bodies of water, and it's a challenge to catch them compared to other parts of the Southeastern U.S.

Tell us about how you got into guiding and how you got to where you are today? From the time I was a grom I've wanted to work in the fishing world. I thought it would be so cool, but it was just a dream at first. After getting laid off from a 'real job' in 2008, I signed up for courses to get my Captains license. Once I got my license, I took out all the money in my 401k and dumped it into making Native Fly Charters, LLC. legit and legal. How I got where I am today has a lot to do with my photography. I was always into photography, especially skateboarding photography. The trick to a good skate photo back then was a wide angle or fisheye lens and getting really low angles shooting upward at the subject. I tend implement those same techniques when shooting photos of my clients holding fish. I think that sets me apart from other guides. What I think really got me where I am today was getting an invite to be a contributing writer for a blog called SaltyShores.com, created by a guy named Sam Root. Salty Shores was, and still is, one of the hottest sites if you are into fishing and photography. All that interweb traffic definitely helped get my name out there.

If you could only give ONE piece of advice to a new angler who wanted to start fishing in central Florida, what would it be? Respect the fish, especially the big ones. Please take the time to release big breeder fish, they hold the future to our fishery. Make sure they are strong and ready to swim away after the long battle. Hold them in the water until they kick out of your hands.

What is your biggest draw to fly fishing? Fly fishing is an art and a challenge. It challenges a person to be more patient and teaches a person to mellow out. You can't rush things when fly fishing. You gotta have rhythm and flow. What really draws me to it is that I don't have to catch fish to have a good time. Just seeing a fish, making the right cast, and presenting the fly is enjoyable. Having the fish eat the fly is a bonus. What are 5 items you never leave the dock without (Not talking rods, reels, tackle, etc.) Coffee in the Yeti Rambler, DSLR Cameras, GoPro, water, protein bars.

Any shout outs or last words? I'd like to give a big THANK YOU to all the companies that show me love and support: Maverick Boat Company, RCI Optics, Nautilus Reels, G.Loomis/Shimano, Cortland line, Patagonia, Strip and Feed Research, Hoo-Rag, D.O.A. Lures, Harry Goode's Outdoor Shop, Yeti Coolers, Wang Anchor, Owner Hooks, and Josh at Evolve Industries. Also big thanks to everyone

What do you love most about being an angler in Central Florida? Being an inshore angler in Central Florida is definitely not easy. Our Lagoon systems here are not heavily tide driven, so the fish don't feed or stage up in predictable areas at certain times. It's

who has helped me along the way and all my crew that I fish and chill with on a regular basis, you all know who you are. Last but not least I'd like to thank my family for putting up with my long days on the water and coming home tired, hungry, and grumpy.

06 PERSONAL TRAINER NICK WEISS

How would you describe your philosophy about being fit and healthy? I have a real natural approach to health and fitness. I try to eat fresh seasonal foods, live an active lifestyle, but also give my body plenty of time to rest and recover. It's all about finding a balance that will keep you healthy for years to come. Life is a marathon not a sprint. What does your typical day look like? I wake up at 5am, then cook a big breakfast that provides me energy for the first part of my day. I start training clients at the gym by 6:30. During my break I workout then eat a healthy lunch before returning to the gym for a second round of clients. After work I spend some time playing with the dog, eat dinner, then try to get a good night sleep. The days can be long. It really doesn't seem like work to me, because I love what I do! Who or what gives you the most motivation? My family is a huge motivation to me. My mother and brother is definitely where I get my work ethic from. My clients are also a huge motivation! It's extremely gratifying watching people achieve their goals in fitness. Seeing others make positive changes in their life inspires me to better myself everyday in the gym and also outside of it in other aspects of my life.

PHOTO: RUDDY

In this issue, we sit down with personal trainer Nick Weiss, to learn secrets to living well and ways you can make small simple changes in your fitness routines to meet your goals. Learn how he stays motivated, what his favorite meals are, and what exercises he can always count on to get his clients in tip top shape!

Do you cross train or spend most of the time in the gym? I'm in the gym almost everyday, but I also do a lot of cross training. It's important to switch up your routine to avoid hitting plateaus and keep your body running at a high efficiency. I love surfing, swimming, jogging or anything that keeps me outdoors and active. I have recently started practicing yoga. It has helped tremendously Improve my flexibility, posture, concentration, and focus. If someone had to limit themselves to three exercises to see results, what would you recommend? I would say Squats, Deadlifts, and Burpees. All three are tough compound movements that require a lot of energy and work the entire body! Fueling the body from workouts & living lean takes work. What's a typical meal for you? I try to eat organic natural food as much as possible. My typical pre workout meal is farm fresh eggs with oatmeal and chia seeds. A typical post workout meal would be grilled chicken breast, sweet potato, steamed broccoli, with an avocado. There is nothing more important to your health and well being than what you put into your body. It's impossible to out work a bad diet.

Do you have any tricks to living healthy, lean and fit? My biggest piece of advice would be to avoid all the "quick fixes" or gimmicks out there. Stay away from extremely low, restrictive diets and fat loss pills. Focus on eating the delicious foods this earth provides and making little healthy changes in your daily routine. Several small steps overtime end up covering a lot of ground. What is the biggest transformation you’ve seen from hard work and eating right? The most impressive transformation I've seen is watching a client be taken off medications they were told by doctors they would never stop taking. Going from a pre diabetic with high blood pressure, who takes several pills daily, to a perfectly healthy individual who doesn't take any medication less than a year later. It's amazing to see how fueling the body properly and exercise can reverse the affects of chronic disease. Tell us where we can keep up with you and learn more about healthy living? I train full time at Vision Fitness 24 in NSB. It's a state of the art facility with awesome trainers and great owners. I do a fitness blog you can check out @ www.train2travel.blogspot.com You can follow me on Instagram for workout tips and healthy recipes @NSB_FITNICK

DESIGN TRUE TO its

CORE

In a world of mass production and disposable goods, it really means something when a company builds a product to last and not only meet your expectations, but exceed them. That uncompromising commitment to quality sets Everglades Boats apart from the rest. Plus, they are a local company building right here in Central Florida, which translates to supporting local business, as well as hundreds of jobs generated for our community. Every industry has a uniquely gifted icon at the forefront of innovation. In the marine industry that icon is Bob Dougherty. In 1960, he joined Boston Whaler where he was the key in developing the unsinkable hull. During his 30-year tenure he perfected the process, introduced the first V-bottom Whaler, and became Senior Vice President of Product Development and Engineering. In 1999, Dougherty took the foam-filled hull process even further by molding the structural foam separately, then building it into the hull rather than injecting it blindly. His Rapid Molded Core Assembly Process -- or RAMCAP -- won him the Marine Manufacturers Innovation Award in 1999 and revolutionized the way boats are built. In 2001, Dougherty was ready for a new challenge and Everglades Boats was born. Over the last decade the product line has grown to include center consoles, pilot houses, and cabin models from 23 to 43 feet. Today, RAMCAP is still the core of every Everglades hull. Everglades Boats provides you the assurance that you are the captain of a quality vessel that is built to last. Plus it doesn't hurt that their designs are always sleek, innovative and easy on the eyes. The quality and craftsmanship that is the hallmark of an Everglades Boat is no accident. To set the standard that high everyone in the company must be on board with an impeccable level of service - from the hands that design your hull, to the salesman and even to the CEO. With an unmatched dedication to innovation in boat building, the Everglades team continues to impress by producing the finest fishing boats on the water. 16 FoodTrends for 2016

BROUGHT TO YOU BY NSB BITES PHOTOS: JESSICA BICKMEYER

1. Smoothie Bowls - Ditch the straws and cups and bring out the bowls! Top your smoothies with beautiful healthy ingredients, grab a spoon, and dig in!

7. More Herbs - Try adding fresh mint to a fried chicken sandwich or cilantro to your next cocktail. These little plants pack big flavor and are easy to grow, no matter where you live.

2. Chemex Coffee Systems - Sure automatic coffee machines are a no brainer but putting a little brain power into something never hurt - especially when the result is a perfectly brewed cup of coffee and an eco-friendly glass contraption that brings beauty to your kitchen counter top.

8. Fermented Foods - Greek Yogurt, Kimchi, Sauerkraut, Pickled Vegetables, Kombucha are filled with probiotics which help balance your digestive track and improve immunity. Since ancient times these foods have been praised for their long lasting health benefits, so it makes sense that it’s coming back into fashion.

3. Poke - New Smyrna Beach has been a leader in the poke movement, but our love for this fresh fish dish has spread to major metropolis and isn’t slowing down anytime soon. We’re seeing more and more poke dishes all around the country, and we couldn’t be more excited.

9. Smoked Everything - Whether it’s sipping on a smoked whiskey old fashioned or getting creative and nibbling on smoked tomatoes soaked in vanilla syrup, smoking edibles is like a fun science project that opens up new and unexpected flavor profiles.

4. Artisan Markets and Pop-up Restaurants The grass roots movement is strong in the world of food. So for people who want to start their own company but don’t have the resources to do so, these types of environments create an approachable platform that cultivates creativity even without a major cash flow.

10. Breakfast and Brunch - It’s no joke that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but now people are planning their whole weekend around finding the best brunch in their area. And with the whole battle of brunch spots, some places offer all you can drink bottomless mimosa or bloody mary deals, which we’re definitely not mad about.

5. Savory Desserts - You may not think of something savory as a satisfying dessert but countless chefs are bringing this trend to the forefront. Savory cornbread ice cream, olive oil cakes, and candied bacon chocolate chip cookies are just some of these tasty game changers! 6. Avocado Oil - Everyone loves avocados, so it makes sense that this oil is finally getting the fame it deserves! Packed with vitamins and nutrients, avocado oil improves digestion, prevents heart disease, lowers the risk of cancer, helps your hair grow thicker and fuller, reduces inflammation, and accelerates your bodies ability to fight off disease. How can you not like it?

11. Seaweed and Algae - The rising popularity of seaweed and algae is not just limited to Japanese menus or in the supplements aisle of CVS. Both seaweed and algae are now being characterized as a new superfood because of the many detoxifying characteristics that we will all definitely need after one of those bottomless mimosa brunches. 12. Spiralizers - SPIRALIZE EVERYTHING PEOPLE! Pop a sweet potato, zucchini or squash into the spiralizer and automatically get a mock pasta that is not only super fun to make but also extremely good for you!

13. Family Style Dining - We can’t be the only ones who think picking a single dish for dinner is one of the hardest decisions of the day, but luckily with the family style dining trend growing bigger and bigger, restaurants are allowing their patrons to try more of their creations in a environment that fosters the idea that sharing is caring. 14. Spicy Honey - If you’ve been to Brooklyn within the last year you probably have seen hot honey on more than one menu. Infusing sweet liquid gold with various forms of heat is one of our favorite tastiest and easiest DIY food trends of the new year. 15. Meal Prep Programs - Say goodbye to TV dinners and hello to healthy prepared meal programs! Ditching fast food has never been easier especially with the influx of companies selling and delivering perfectly proportioned and nutritionally balanced meals. It really takes the work out of eating healthy. 16. Vegetables over Meat - Taking the focus off of meat and zooming in on vegetables is something that we’re seeing more and more of. Whether this trend is based off of all the recent documentaries on the devastating effects of our meat-centric food system, or if it’s just based on the fact that vegetables are awesome, the trend itself seems like it’s going to be a really good 35 thing for our planet and our bodies.

FISHING OUTLOOK Inshore

Reeling into 2016, expect the Reds to be swimming in larger schools, grazing shallow grass flats looking for shrimp or any other bottom dwelling organism. Redfish have already begun to school up, but the larger Reds still tend to roam alone. With the cooler weather approaching, it is going to be tough to find the elusive snook. Around the jetties you can still hook into some redfish, black drum, flounder, and bluefish.

offshore

With a slight rise in water temperature this winter, our coast is prime for the picking in the months to come. Always plentiful along Florida’s east coast. King mackerel are especially numerous on the 70-90 feet reefs. If you can handle the somewhat tougher seas of the season, this time of the year is prime time for bottom fishing. Lane Snapper, triggerfish, and seabass will be found on the wrecks, along with large amounts of red snapper. Keep your lines tight and put in some extra time on the water in 2016.
