FROM
EDITOR
I don't remember my first camera... Maybe it's because I was always stealing my sister's equipment every time she turned her back (sorry and thanks Kat). Ansel Adams, famed photographer, once cited the photographer as the instrument rather than the camera. I've always considered my own camera to be just a tool, a way to express, interpret and share what I see with the world. Generalizing photography as only one element of the arts has always seemed wrong to me. Photography, in any form, gives us the ability to capture limitless examples of the human experience, and to me, too broad to ever cluster into any subgroup. Think about it, the work one photographer produces to the next, is like comparing a carpenter to a roofer. Both use hammers, but in different ways and for different things.
magazines to catch up on current events have long been replaced by a never ending stream of data via computers, tablets & iPhone's. On the upside, magazines have turned to fine art and photo features, allowing photography to capture our attention and resonate in our memories. Here at Fluid, we strive and encourage our shooters to have direction with whatever type of images they create. We consider each of our photographers a true instrument of the arts, and are proud to showcase the immense talent they possess.
We live in a golden age of extensive news feeds and a never-ending stream of information, limiting attention spans of readers. What you see here today will be forgotten by most. The days of reading

Tupat's HAWAIIAN POKE SAUCE tupatshawaiianpokesauce.com
Ohana means family. In Hawaiian culture sharing aloha with your ohana is a way of life. For Tupat, growing up with a mother as a flight attendant she was always sharing her favorite sights, sounds, and tastes from her many travels. On an early trip to Hawaii with his parents, Pu-pu platters and numerous other first time flavors danced around on Tupat's tongue leaving him wanting, and destined to come back for more. As Tupat returned, year after year, it would be to the North Shore of Oahu for months at a time. He was there to film his younger brother, me and my brother and friends searching out the wave's of our lives. Ohana grew and with this growth there was more sharing. Kai Garcia would come by and cook mountains of shoyu chicken. Andy Irons would pile too many of us into his truck for a daily Kahuku Poke run. All the while Tupat's passion for learning went into making these incredible dishes on his own during rest and recovery periods between epic swells. And after many years, and many great recipes learned later, it was while staying with the
Beschen family in '09 that Jason Lau was over to make some fresh poke. It was then that the final ingredient was discovered and included in what has become Tupat's Hawaiian Poke Sauce. Fast forward to 2013, and Tupat's longtime friend, Trey Peterson, came to him with an investment idea. Tupat listened to his story and asked him to stop by a store before his way over and grab a few items so he could make him some poke. The rest is history, and they are now gaining traction day by day on a local and global basis. As of late, Mike Schaler, owner of Off the Hook located in New Smyrna Beach, has put together a special menu that utilizes Tupat's Hawaiian Poke Sauce. The menu is fresh, healthy and fun that delivers flavors for days. Tupat's sauce has a backbone, which is his lifestyle that he has lived for the past 25 years. Surfing, shooting video, photos and sharing the stoke in and out of the water. All the while just being himself. Tupat's Hawaiian Poke Sauce is not just a sauce, it's a lifestyle. - Words by: Shea Lopez

FROM THE ARCHIVES F
FROM THE GROUND UP - Ruddy Over the years our Fluid parties have been a huge part of our success. This was our first party at the Flagler Tavern in New Smyrna Beach. I still think this party is in contention for the best one ever! People came from everywhere, no one missed this one. In this photo is everyone who helped get the magazine off the ground. Family and friends that made Fluid Magazine what it is today. Thank you!
L
TIZ' THE SEASON - Ruddy Photo Editor, Patrick Ruddy came up with the idea for this image. The Estate on the Halifax is one of our advertisers that has the most amazing setup for weddings and events. We pitched the idea to them about the Holiday Gear Guide photo shoot and they were nice enough to leave us the keys to this 5 star river house. We recruited a couple of the boys and a pack of smoking hot ladies and made the most of it. Out of all the photo shoots we've ever done, I feel that this one really captured exactly what we had envisioned.
U
WILD BILL - Ruddy The famous Hurricane Bill photo. Everyone still talks about how good it was that day. Looking at the image, you would never know this is Florida. With the angle that it was taken from, the top of Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, and size of the swell, it is one for the record books. FIREY FOURTH - Tupat When this photo ran I remember so many people giving us feedback on how much they love the photos in the magazine. This image was taken from one of our main contributor’s, Patrick "Tupat" Eichsteadt. During the fourth of July, every year, the beaches are home to a massive light show that we are fortunate enough to experience.
I
PERFECT STORM - Jason Weingart Home of the lightning capital of the world, we are accustomed to some crazy storms during the summer. This image was captured at the Granada approach in Ormond Beach. When you first look at this image you almost think that this can't be real, but then you remember that, at 4pm everyday, this is the norm in Central Florida.

FLUID FOOD REVIEW
OCEAN DECK It’s a rare place that can keep both locals and tourists coming back year after year. But, that is exactly what the Ocean Deck has been doing, for over four decades, by staying true to its reputation for being laid back, fun and delicious. To keep up their killer reputation, the Deck has to offer a little bit of somethin’ somethin’ for everyone. To make sure they got what you need, they always have epic live music every night, stiff drinks, amazing food and then there is always the ocean just a few feet away.
40
Ocean Deck is the type of place you can enjoy with your lady while setting the mood with the ocean breeze, take your tourist friends to show off how awesome it is to live at the beach, or just pop in for a quick
bite. While we love the big burgers and fresh seafood, our favorite way to enjoy the Deck is with an order of their famous Rasta Wings and a 32 ounce beach bucket, all while taking in the live music with the waves in the background. Every year their beach concerts have gone off and we have to say it, Ocean Deck is one of our all time favorite spots to have a Fluid party. We love that a day at the Deck will not leave you broke too. They got you covered with drink specials and menu prices that make locals happy! 127 S Ocean Ave, Daytona Beach (386)253-5224 Oceandeck.com
