NOTE FROM EDITOR I learned at a young age to not sweat the small stuff, and just enjoy life. As we started the magazine, we made sure to keep that in mind. At Fluid Magazine, we tend to enjoy ourselves in every way possible. Exhibit A: This picture of us on the Knightrocity Bus. This day was absolutely amazing, but we will go into more detail about that in our special feature about the proper way to tailgate. Each issue has it's highlights, some come with major melt downs, but it is just a little traffic to weave through. Back to how much we enjoy ourselves, or more accurately how lucky we are. As the Holiday season approaches, it makes us reflect. The entire community has embraced Fluid Magazine from our inception. From advertisers putting their hard earned dollars into the magazine, to people constantly helping us with each stepping stone. I don't even know where to start! When we

12

do a photo shoot, have monthly events or host the benefit golf tournament, there are so many people that help make it happen. I always try to go with the theory that "good things happen to good people'', but we can't thank the community enough. Fluid isn't a big empire, it is a company of friends who work at a common goal and thrive to make each issue stronger. Happy Holidays and a huge thanks to all those that have helped us over the years! Cheers-from Fluid Magazine! This issue is dedicated to the newest edition to the Fluid Family. Nicole Forand gave birth to Noah Bryan Forand on Oct 22, 2014. 9.4lbs and almost 22" long, the best present we could ever ask for.

TIA McDONALD

Where do you live? New Smyrna Beach Originally from? Born in Waconia, MN. Though my tribe is from Sioux Falls, SD! Occupation? Print and swimwear model. What was it like being crowned Miss Florida in 2014? Shocking!! After years of growing up and competing for something I wanted so badly, there's nothing more rewarding and unbelievable, then to finally be able to compete in the Miss World Org. You've always been big on helping those in need. Tell us more about that? My first project started at 10 years old, when I started Our Shining S.T.A.R.S(pageant for special needs people). I provide crowns, gifts, gowns, etc. to each mentally or physically challenged person, and we give them the opportunity to feel like royalty. In all, I've raised more than $100,000 for people in need, given 5 cars with hand-gas, brakes and wheel chair lifts to families in need. In addition, I have started a cheer team that won 1st place at state(3 weeks after forming) and a mentoring program for teens at risk. I'm extremely blessed to have been commended by Mrs. Obama, and President's Bronze, Silver, Gold, Governor's Point of Light Honor and Proclamation from our mayor for the love I put into my community! :) How many times a day do you use social media? (tell us the truth) Too often.. In fact, my degree is in social media, so I validate it through Instagram and Facebook at least 4x a day, and LinkedIn 4x a month. If you had to be locked in a room for 24 hours with Flavor Flav or Bruce Jenner, who would you choose? Bruce. I respect his dedication in advancing at the Olympics, and would equally respect his stellar advice on beauty and hair regiments. Got a boyfriend? No Most important thing on a first date? Respect. Whether it's timeliness, door opening, or other aspects, I think values shows a level of character displayed on both sides. Turn on’s? Beach. Coffee. Tan Nail Polish. Sunshine. Happiness. Scruffy faces. Intellectual conversations. Conversation's about nothing & most importantly, Chocolate! Turn off’s? Attitude, judgement & entitlement! You can fix bad breath, and body odor, but I've learned you can't fix an ugly heart. Best Beach in Florida? Key West for relaxing, New Smyrna Beach for surfing! I love Fluid magazine because? They represent the beauty of our life and culture. Between the sports, ladies and events, I love the content, messages and reliability that's always 100% present in each issue. What does the future hold for the lovely Tia? I look forward to enjoying the rest of my year with pageantry, modeling and expanding my business, which I recently started in Washington! I hope to bring it to Florida next year, and continue to help my community prosper!

FLUID 5 THINGS

5 HELPFUL HINTS TO SCORING THE PERFECT GIFTS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

1. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX Everyone loves to have an item customized. Doing so can go a long way. Getting your Boo a monogrammed little something from Beachside Embroidery in NSB will make you a hero.

2. BARGAIN HUNT Don't be afraid to track down a deal. Doing a little research can go a long way. You could save some money on the big purchase, leaving a little left over for the stocking stuffers. Black Friday is pretty overrated, most local businesses run sales for a few weeks prior to Christmas. Save time, money, and energy.

3. DIG DEEP Think about what they mentioned four months ago when you were sitting on the couch watching House of Cards. Whether it’s a getaway to the Keys or that shiny gift from the jewelers that might break the bank, surprises are the best.

4. KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID Use the K.I.S.S. method. If you really don't feel like being over thoughtful, gift cards are as good as gold. You know the spot they like, but you’re not a mind reader. This way they will get exactly what they want.

7 TIPS

TO CONQUERING THE TAILGATE PARTY Growing up in Central Florida, college football has always been divided 50/50 between The Florida Gators and The Florida State Seminoles. Times have changed dramatically in the past decade or so. University of Central Florida Football has come on strong. Last year was their most memorable season to date, taking down Baylor in the 2014 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. With accolades like these, we knew that UCF Football was the right spot for our Tailgating Extravaganza.

Stay Hydrated.

1. SHOW UP IN STYLE OK so this tip isn't completely a must for the perfect day, but look at the party bus we showed up in! Did you really think we wouldn't mention it? When you rock up in the Knightrocity Bus, people know you mean business.

2. STAY HYDRATED Water and Gatorade are great for the players, but you need to have the cooler packed to the gills with cold beer and bottles that are made to tip back. Keep a steady pace and know when to mash the gas.

3. MIX IT UP Like everything in life, you have to think outside the box. We like to make noise, so we brought DJ Clutch, who brought the party to us. Think big, and things will go your way. Guaranteed!

4. GAME ON Tailgating is an all day affair, and you need to make sure to keep everyone entertained. Pick your poison: beer pong, horse shoes or corn hole. Whatever you are playing, talk smack when you're winning, and be a sore loser when things aren't going your way. It is the only way to go. Trust us!

5. WORK THE CROWD Tailgates are a great place to meet really cool, friendly people. Everyone has a common interest - whether its the actual game or just having a good time. Don't be afraid to be the better deal guy, though. If a hottie you just met is ready to hang, bailing on your friends can always be forgiven. It is gameday baby!

6. BE SOCIAL Every good tailgate deserves proper documentation. Make sure to capture those special moments, like the winning toss at beer pong or making out with the smoking hot chick. OK maybe you don't want to document it, in case the beer goggles are in full effect. However you do it, don't hesitate to share your experience on all social media outlets to provoke envy in others.

7. STAY FIRED UP The grill is your friend. Being hyped for the game is all good, but food intake is crucial. Between the adrenaline, sun and booze, the grill will keep your game going strong.

Work the Crowd.

FLUID THROWBACK

SUPERSTORM SANDY Surfer: Cory Lopez Photo: Rob Snow Location: Pumphouse Date: Oct. 28, 2012 Time: 5:10 PM

I remember waking up this day with a phone call from my brother letting me know the waves were still pumping. I was kind of in disbelief, I mean, two days of epic waves in South Florida is pretty unheard of, much less three days. I was at a hotel in Fort Lauderdale after surfing South Beach the two previous days. I started my drive north and decided to take A1A so I could check all the inlets on the way up. The waves I saw that morning blew my mind. There was this one inlet that was draining so hard and perfect that it looked like Skeleton Bay. It was so sucked out and below sea level, I was losing it. With no ski and no tow partner, there was no surfing that spot. In fact, the line up was empty when I checked it. After an hour or so I finally made it to Pumphouse. As soon as I pulled up, I ran into David Dixon and some of the boys who had just got out of the water. They

assured me that it was firing and to get out there. I ran straight to the beach and was instantly blown away by what I saw. The swell was pumping! It didn't seem like Florida. You could feel the energy and the power standing on the beach. There were boats and skies lined up in the channel, and guys getting towed-in to epic waves on every set. I made my way out and somehow lucked right into a tow from Palm Beach local George Britton. Game plan was simple, ride the sets and have fun! I couldn't believe I was in Florida. The waves I had that day and rides that I saw were crazy. Epic tubes, epic wipeouts, lots of current with tons of power. Â It is what we live for, and what we may never see again! Â -Cory Lopez
