ARTIST OF THE MONTH

T. Rozie

7 THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

Multi-Talented Artist

T. Rozie is a force to reckoned with the multi-talented artist was born in Atlanta. GA to professional dance choreographer and entre preneur Tamara Whithead who is the sister of the late WWF Wrestler “Shad Gaspard”. Tamara is a celebrity choreographer and dance studio owner of “Tripple 7 Dance Studio” she has instilled within her daughter a sense of professionalism that has not allowed her to stop pursing her dreams since birth.

Rozie took naturally to dancing seemingly from her mother’s womb creating a name for herself among the dance community at an early age. She has successfully mastered the art of dance with over 19 years’ experience she has established her own production company which has been named after her great grandmother “ Lilly’s Vision Production”. One would consider her success to date as goals along side being selected in 2014 as a “Disney World Performer” in Orlan do, FL and her dance role in 2019 in “Legally Blonde” but the Tin Girl form the 2010 performance of The Wiz isn’t halfway done.

Rozie has developed a niche to marry her dancing along with her passion for R&B/Hip Hop which has paved a place for this thriving entertainer in the industry with undeniable charting on several of her new releases including SNL, TOXIC and the now trending Tragic. The artist has been very creative with pairing up her music with breath taking videos and high impact performances. Rozie’s current single “Tragic” has allowed her to descriptively become a voice for those who continuously seem to fall prey to relationships that causes more damage than good to the singer. T. Rozie alongside her Rose Gang has made an effort to assist young women her age to recognize bad relationships that often cause damage to her age group ultimately leading to deteriorating behavior and destructive mental issues.

T. Rozie is a force and her track record has proven that she is defi antly here to stay and to continue to be a voice for those who seek to find their own in this world of change and young love heartbreak. You can find attached a link to her current single and her video and her social media links. We would love an opportunity for her to share her story and music on your platform. Please contact me with any questions or to obtain more information regarding the artist.

Thomas Green, Jr.

10 THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

Bestselling Author & Screenwriter

I love discussing sex, dating and relationships and after watching a film on Tubi AKA Black Netflix but with com mercials called Irreconcilable Differences, I know I had to find out more about where the story came from and discovered it was by a man the same last name as mine, WooHoo! Thomas Green, Jr. based the movie off a novel of the same name. So my curiosity was piqued to find out who was Thomas Green, Jr. was. He was the Essence Magazine’s bestselling author raised in the South Bronx, where he began his writing career as a reporter for the New York Post, Westchester Gannett Newspapers and the great City Sun, an African American weekly newspaper. He has covered all levels of sporting events, from high school to professional and covered news stories.

Then he started to write novels but not basic stories of love but romantic tales involving professional athletes, taking both male and female readers into another side of the lives of ballplayers, their need for steady, real love. Other authors have touched on pro athletes as main char acters but none has the credentials to impress readers like Thomas. His books involve drama and the emotional rollercoaster that many couples go through so that could be the reason for his loyal readerships. He uses his many varied experiences playing ball and trying to fall in love. Stories from a man’s point of view, yet a different kind of love story, hard yet loving.

To date Thomas has penned the novels Love’s Home Run, Courting Miss Thang, Player No More, The Christmas Par ty and nine others, as well as having ghostwritten over 30 books. In addition, Thomas has written, produced and directed the feature film, Irreconcilable Differences.

let me tell you, there is no better feeling than meeting a mystery reader, or a Sci Fi fan who says they really enjoyed my book.

KG: Describe your writing life.

TGJ: I write every day. I naturally love the process, fleshing out characters, building scenes and moments. My dad was a writer, he wrote all the time, and although I have held many jobs, I never wanted to do anything else.

Kisha Green: What is one word to best describe your writing style?

Thomas Green, Jr.: Descriptive

KG: Who is the target audience for readers of your work?

TGJ: Anyone who loves to read! I used to say I target those who love romantic love stories, but I came to understand as a businessperson the more people I market to the more sales. As an avid reader, I realized folks who love to read would buy a book with an interesting storyline. In addition,

KG: What is your greatest literary accomplishment?

TGJ: My first book, my baby, Love’s Home Run. Told the story I wanted to tell. Publishers doubted it. 34 rejection letters. Self-Published her in 1997, and she sold like good weed on a college campus. I was ignorant, authors who I knew offered no advice, and yet I sold 1,000 books, my first print run, in three months with no Facebook, no Instagram and little mar keting. I did book signings anywhere and everywhere; pure hustle. It was a great learning experience.

11 THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

KG: What has been the greatest lesson you have learned since becoming a published author and advice would you give an aspiring author?

TGJ: Readers know when you care. After I wrote my first sports love story, Love’s Home Run, I got 34 rejection let ters from publishers, most saying sports romance won’t sell – even though there was a woman doing it (her’s were corny lol).

KG: Tell me about your latest release and what made you write it.

TGJ: Love’s Train is a breast cancer love story. The lead char acter’s husband leaves her the first time, he sees her chest breastless. Sad and mourning, she believes there is no way a normal man would ever love her again, even when she meets a man who likes her enough to be patient.

KG: How has Covid19 affected your literary career?

TGJ: Found more time to write and read, yet have not done a book signing or book fair since 2018. Looking forward to promoting the new book in October.

KG: What are some other projects that you are working on besides being an author?

TGJ: I also write screenplays. I wrote, produced and di rected my first feature film, Irreconcilable Differences. Prepping to shoot The Making of a Man in March, releasing the novel simultaneously.

KG: Lastly, what book did you read that made you fall in love with reading?

TGJ: The Junk Pitcher. It blew my little mind. I was eight and was not into the biographies we had to read in school. Then I found this wonder in the library and it blew my mind – fic tion with sports! Who knew that was possible. Not me lol. Moreover, I was set for life.

In the new era of AFRO RAP particularly in the IGBO RAP scene, very few match up to the enigma that is ELVEEKTOR.

Elveektor is a Nigerian indigenous rap artiste of Igbo heritage, known for his thought provoking lyrics. Elveektor gained more recognition in 2020 with his album, Nsibidi 2. The album came with a rush of fresh air during the pandemic. Songs like “”Isee” and “Igbo Landing” became the most played. This led to a cosign from notable Nigerian music heads like Don Jazzy, Godwin Tom and Illbliss. The album #Nsibidi2 ended up at no 7 on the AppleMusic chart.

THE SPENCER TRIO RELEASE “I CAN WORSHIP”

It’s a Family Thing

The Spencer Trio just released their debut single I Can Worship, ev erywhere music is streamed and downloaded. The song is an an them that reminds youth that God hears and accepts their worship

regardless of age. Jesus tells us that children are a blessing and a gift. He wants us to be like children, coming to him full of faith and trust.

Daveah (9), David Jr. (7), and Amiyah (5) are the children of the gospel duet David and Tiffany Spencer. The project started with kids playing around in the couple’s home studio during the summer break. But as the song developed, David and Tiffany agreed that the music needed to be shared.

“We started our musical journey just like this, learning on the fly as we turned nobs,” said Tiffany. “As an educator, sometimes you don’t have to teach; you just give them access to the tools and watch them learn.”

The Arts, in general, are an essential part of the Spencer family. Daveah loves to design. Both Daveah and Amiyah dance and cheer. Tiffany is a music teacher, and David Sr. was recently appointed to the Robeson County Arts Council Board. At the house, someone is always singing on the mics, playing the keyboard, or David Jr. is making a beat or playing the drums.

“When I grow up, I want to be just like my dad,” said David Jr. “He is good at making beats.”

As musical parents, David and Tiffany try not to push their children too hard musically. “We want them to develop a natural appreci ation for performing,” said David Sr. “But it is nice to see them following in our footsteps. Our legacy is intact.”

I Can Worship features rapper/songwriter Julisa. Julisa’s music has been featured on Ball in the Family, LA’s Finest, and other series on Showtime. “This is a powerful and inspiring song; I am honored to be on it.”

Tony refers to his music as “Rhythm N Smooth”. 19 years ago Tony was the 1st place winner of the 1st Omega Showboat and is honored to return to the 2022 Omega Showboat as a judge.

The Heat Seekers: How long have you been a performing artist?

Tony Exum, Jr.: I started performing at 18.

THS: What made you decide to be serious about music?

TEJ: I had this fascination with the music industry since I could read. I got serious when I realized I had some talent and a gift that others noticed. Once I gained a little confidence and discipline I knew it would be my life’s journey.

THS: Who has had the most influence on your music career and why?

TEJ: So many that I could name who influenced me. I fluence however can manifest in many different tributaries flowing into the same “river”. Grover Washington Jr I identified with first as a saxophonist. His sound was mesmerizing. My uncle USArmy saxophonist Larry Francis Jr (rip) was the one who I wanted to be like when I decided to become a musician.

THS: What would you say is the #1 key to success in the music industry?

TEJ: Patience!! Lol. The number one key is turning that pas sion into action and utilizing the strongest and most consis tent business practices to achieve your goals. Many moving parts to success.. overall never give up!

15 THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

THS: Talk about the biggest failure you’ve had. What did you learn from it?

TEJ: My marriage was a complete failure. I learned to never involve myself with whose trust and heart is not in you, but in their past.

THS: What advice can you give other individuals who want to follow in your footsteps?

TEJ: Learn the business of music, it’s 90% business and the rest is your development of talent and gift. IMHO Network. Build and cultivate strong relationships with key individuals in your genre and outside of it. With individuals whose skill set can help you. No one artist can do this alone. People are your biggest resource outside of your content and/or skills as an artist. Be diligent in maintaining those relationships and do right by them. Eliminate distractions be it personal or pro fessional. Distractions are the enemy of forward motion. It can be the death nail to a promising career or detrimental to your progress. Be disciplined. Be patient. Be ready. Be faithful. Be humble. Be careful. Be intentional. Be original. Be you!

THS: What does a typical day in your week look like?

TEJ: Waking up between 9 and 10A.M. grabbing some coffee, planning my day i.e. emails, phone calls, personal errands, daily practice, prayer, schedule radio programming time (I’m a radio host as well in Jazz 93.5 in Colorado Springs) social media (which I may do too much some days) and working on new music. Some days are busier than others. Exercise is in there too. While on tour flight, hotel, rehearsal/soundcheck, back to hotel, show, back to hotel...airport.... repeat. Sometimes I don’t see my room until after the show lol. Other times I don’t even get..just get back on a plane come home and run to the shower...lol! That’s rare.....very rare however.

THS: What keeps you going when things get tough in the business?

TEJ: Self motivation. I’ve always had this burning desire to never fail. I always see resolve and also have learned to accept the trials and disappointments as opportunities to be a better businessman, musician or human being. I pray. I exercise my faith muscle and continue moving forward. Somethings are harder to get past than others and I do have moments of doubt, trepidation and I’ve questioned my purpose at times.

THS: What’s next for you? New music? Shows?

TEJ: Some end of years tour dates in December in GA, Indy, and Houston, lots of woodshed on sax and flute before the end of ‘22 God willing, continued radio push with my current singles on BSE Recordings “Everything” and “At Your Best” (You Are Loved) with my labelmate Arika Kane. New single and EP in ‘23.

Please list your website and/or your social media platforms.

THS: What’s your all time favorite song/artist?

TEJ: New Edition...and all spinoffs. That’s the soundtrack to my life. Not a particular song.

THS: Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you?

TEJ: I am trying to make time for golf. It’s my new hobby....

Desirae L. Benson

17 THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

Debunking the Mystery around PR with Desirae L. Benson

La Sheera Lee: What intrigues you about PR?

Desirae L. Benson: When it comes to PR, there are so many levels. It’s the pro cess of it all that pulls me in the most. Everything surrounding PR is rigorous, mysterious, and always exciting. Let’s not forget the overall glamour of being involved with red carpet events, executing great campaigns, and bringing huge smiles to the faces of my many wonderful and dynamic clients.

LL: What is the number one misconception you feel people have about your line of work?

DLB: The question is asking for the number one misconception although there are many! (laugh) So, let me first say that with any industry, there are bound to be misconceptions and with PR, there can be some confusion about what our job entails.

From my point of view, oftentimes the misconception that really stands out is that a publicist can do absolutely anything. In essence we can, (laugh) but in reality…it doesn’t always work out like that. There are expectations and then there is what can reasonably be done for a client, whether it’s an individual or a large corporation. Such as life, there are no guarantees. For instance, a client may want to be on the front page of their local newspaper or headline a national talk show right out of the gate. PR is not linear…there should be publicity coming in, and it can hit heavy at times, while other times it can be slow. There are levels to it all. We start fires in a good way, and we also put out the bad ones.

LL: How has social media changed the landscape of PR?

DLB: It has definitely expanded PR. Think about it, social media is global. There’s no getting around it. I have worked with clients who have a love/hate relationship with social media. Some are not used to it, and many simply do not have the time for it because they are busy building their companies, working their 9-5’s, or creatively concentrating on their own personal next big thing.

As a publicist, I use social media to share information and to obtain informa tion that is useful for my clients. One post can be shared multiple times… there’s power in that. The biggest corporations in the world have social media accounts. That is telling in and of itself. To truly understand the reach it can have, you must be all in.

LL: Do you provide social media coaching?

DLB: I speak with my clients on a regular basis about their unique content and share strategies that have proven to be beneficial for growth on and offline. As far as someone reaching out to me about individually coaching them regarding social media, no. However, my clients reap the benefits of all that I know when it comes to tried, true, and even the latest methods to expand their reach beyond their

18 THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

own demographics. I do offer a social media package where my fo cus is only to grow a client’s online and social media presence. Peo ple can find out more about this by setting up a phone consultation with me. I do them each week on Tuesday and Thursday.

LL: How has the cancel culture impacted your work?

DLB: It hasn’t. Fortunately, the term “cancel culture” is also fading as it should. This hasn’t impacted any of my clients either. Granted, there are some undesirable people in our world who have done despicable things— and they should not be receiving any glory, positive recognition or attention that would highlight them in the media. There are so many uplifting and inspirational stories to share instead. It is my hope that cancel culture tactics fall off completely and showcasing positive happenings and people, breeds even more positivity in our world. We need it.

LL: What are some key steps to cultivating a good working relationship with your PR expert?

DLB: Be transparent, share your thoughts about where you are as compared to where you desire to be. Keep your publicist informed about what is happen ing with you. We cannot help you if we don’t know you.

LL: How can people connect with you?

DLB: To set up a phone consultation with me, potential clients can send an email at: DesiraeBBB@gmail.com and I will provide infor mation on my process. Here is my website and social media links: www.AdayInTheLifeOfDesirae.com https://www.facebook.com/Desiraebrockington https://www.instagram.com/desiraebbb/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/desirae-benson-2a7468202 https://www.tiktok.com/@desiraebenson?_t=8WQRC70NMzb&_r=1

AUTHOR OF THE MONTH

Who is Peter Mack?

Isiko Cooks, aka Author Peter Mack, is President of Peter Mack Presents, LLC, the parent company of Signature Peter Mack Apparel. The author of over 25 books has recently dropped FILTHY 2, the highly anticipated follow-up to FILTHY: Innocence Lost, winner of a 2015 PEN America Center book award. FILTHY 2: Dope Boy, is the third book in a series of 80s memoirs by Isiko Cooks, beginning with WATERMELON SUMMER (Los Angeles. 1983) in which the author explores his young life with sincerity and honesty, immortalizing the people and places that influenced his upbringing. The au thor offers another prescient time capsule of the mid-80s crack-fueled Los Angeles, showing cocaine’s destructive powers on community and family as he travels the interstate introducing crack to unfamiliar cities, finding money, love, and heartbreak along the way. I have been honored to interview this author on my radio show. Now I am interviewing him exclusively for Hardcore Grind Magazine.

Lissha Sadler: A black man who can write is powerful. What does that power mean to you?

Peter Mack: We as humans are instructed to chronicle our lives for those who come after us. For a black man who has come to some knowledge, it is our responsibility to share what we have learned. As an author, I must chronicle the times I live in. For myself, it is an honor to be given the gift of being able to artic ulate my life experiences in a way that might enlighten others.

LS: What is the hardest part of your journey?

PM: My first answer is that there are no complex parts. For every struggle, there is a reward. The reward is in the struggle to mine the depths of my experiences and emotions. The chal lenge may be in overcoming the fear and challenge of delving deep enough and being honest with ourselves about who we are and our place in the world.

LS: Tell everyone about your literary brand and journey.

PM: I classify my literary brand as a genre of Love & Hustle. My fictional writing is a narrative of manifesting love and financial em powerment in our lives. My memoirs are an exercise in discovering who I am and where I am from. My writing journey is discovering my self-worth and manifesting Peace. Power. & Position in my life.

LS: What advice do you have for aspiring authors?

PM: What my Dad told me is to keep writing. I tell people not to let money be the reason they write. Ultimately, my advice is first to write your story.

24
THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

LS: What can readers expect from the book “Filthy 2”? What do you want readers to experience from your story?

PM: What I expect readers to experience is a time capsule of the 1985 crack area of Los Angeles. It is an emotional journey through the effects of crack on my family, life, and community. It is a tale of brotherhood, friendship, and tragedy.

LS: Are there any success quotes you’ve adapted you want to share to encourage others?

PM: The quote I live by is “LiveRichDieReady.” This spiritual exercise demands us to subdue our lower nature so that our higher nature may rise.

LS: What is next for your brand and journey?

PM: My next memoir is titled Freedom Ain’t Free: Notes to Self & Writing My Out of Prison. What is next for me in business is The BRU CAPO Company. Anyone who knows my fiction recognizes the BRU acronym in the fictional Black Revolutionary Underground, a network of entrepreneurs with a shared vision of financial empowerment and creating generational wealth. Walking down the street blasting that new Kendrick/ loving it already that’s true spitting/ inspired me to come with some jewels written/ with hot brew sipping/ yo how am I perceived/ shouldn’t affect my beliefs/ loving those who been kind to me/ those who ride with me/.can see the radical that reside in me/ though my vernacular is politely free/ did you see me pushing education?/ Can you see me pushing legislation?/ What’s my destination while heaven’s waiting/ that’s my talk with God forever daily/ though I say Lord I’m blessed you made me/ trying to find an ADQ to rest in greatly/ in my verses hope you can see the last generation writing cursive/ but roped in generational curses that got me in church cursing/ my worth is been based on what I purchase/ if that’s the attitude than maybe I’m the 2nd human being that’s perfect/ at least I strive to be. How ever your percep tion recline to be/ being followed by kids from 9 to 3/ my insecurities won’t tell me what they find in me. I just tell them go shine my G. And always be finding peace.

“Holidays” by: ADQ

I used to celebrate the holidays. Let my gluttonous spirit go wild on Thanksgiving. Til some fellow natives told me thats a day of mourning because of colonizers who slaughtered the living. No football, no turkey, just dead tribes on their home land dying and hurting. I used to celebrate Christmas, the carols the presents, the birth of Christ which is a blessing. Then came a time where I realized that Jesus’birthday is actually closer to mine. Virgo season. These seasons greetings are becoming humor, it’s all about capitalism appealing to the consumer. You go bat duece crazy the day after you’re thanking America you have a tumor.

I ask myself what’s the root of my tone? Is it because of my pineal gland or because I usually spend the holidays alone? A little bit of both, shed a few years, toughest time of the year. Can’t wait til January 2nd or December 27th celebrate Kwanzaa and the enriching presence. Most people start a weight loss goal on the first I start ed mine after Juneteenth. Anyway if you celebrate the holidays may you enjoy with fullness. Bring love to your friends and loved ones that’s lonely and moody.

SORMAG’s Writers Café Podcast

29 THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

Spreading Social Butterfly Wings

LaShaunda Hoffman is a social butterfly indeed. She is a promo tion strategist who took her love for books and turned it into an award-winning online magazine, Shades of Romance Magazine - SORMAG Digital. The multi-cultural literary magazine celebrat ed 20 years online, showcasing writers and their books before it closed in 2020.

In 2015, LaShaunda published her first book, Building Online Rela tionships – One Reader at a Time. This best-selling book is part of her promotion strategy program, Virtual Tea with LaShaunda. The program teaches writers and business owners how to strategi cally create promotion plans that keep them consistent and build their customer base.

She started the Social Butterfly Movement as a creative way to help authors and business owners to become the social butter flies they are meant to be. With a mission to introduce as many books as she can to readers and a passion for assisting writers in sharing their gifts, she gives us the SORMAG’s Writers Café Podcast. A podcast where writers are encouraged to spread their social butterfly wings.

Angela Anderson: How did you get started in podcasting?

LaShaunda Hoffman: I got started in podcasting because I missed doing live interviews. I used to do an online radio show – SORMAG Radio. I found that I enjoyed doing live interviews with authors. I decided to try my hand at podcasting, and it took off from there.

AA: What inspired you to start SORMAG’s Writers Café Podcast?

LH: I wanted to have a podcast that was like a conversation at a café versus the regular ask the author interview. I don’t even get in one question during some podcasts because the conversation is flowing. Those are my favorite podcasts because you learn so much when an author is sharing from the heart.

AA: How did you determine the name for the podcast, SORMAG’s Writers Café?

LH: I wanted to keep the SORMAG brand because my audience knew me by that. I knew the podcast would feature writers, so I added that. The café was my play on sitting at the café with these writers.

AA: What makes the SORMAG’s Writers Café Podcast unique?

LH: I think what makes it unique is that I can ask the same questions and get totally different answers because each author has their own experiences in writing, publishing, and marketing. I like that the listeners get to see that there is no one way to do this business. Everyone brings their own flavor to it.

AA: Share some of the behind-the-scenes of what is involved with making one podcast episode?

LH: I use Sartmeeting. It’s a conference call platform. The writers call into the platform, and we chat for an hour. I then create a graphic for the podcast featuring the author’s headshots. The audio is later uploaded to my podcast hosting service, Spreaker.com. In addition, a page is created on my blog with the podcast information. I create an email blast with the podcast info to send to my email community. The podcast information is shared with my social media community, and the podcast link and graphics are shared with the guests. Finally, the link and graphics are placed on the rotation of my scheduled promo tion.

AA: What aspect of your podcast brings you tremendous joy?

LH: I absolutely adore having conversations with authors. I always come away from the podcast with new knowledge to help me in my author’s journey. I also love hearing from listeners who let me know they are learning from the podcasts too.

AA: What can listeners expect to receive when they tune into the SORMAG’s Writers Café Podcast?

LH: I always say, bring your notebook. You’ll be introduced to new authors and their books. You will get tips on writing books, publishing books, and marketing books. You might even get a few tips on how to live your best life. You never know what an author will share.

30 THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

AA: What is one piece of advice you would share with someone who wants to start a podcast?

LH: Be sure this is something you want to do because you have to be consistent with your podcast to build your audience. If the listener enjoys your podcast, they will be back for more. Staying consistent brings them back.

AA: It’s the holiday season and the 4th quarter of the year. What do you enjoy about this time of year?

LH: The holiday season/Fourth Quarter is usually busy for me because I host my last event for the year in December – SORMAG’s Online Book Festival. I’m usually deep in promoting the book festival during this time. I’m updating the pages for the festival, creating the program and literary directory, and trying to get vendors and sponsorships for the festival.

I’m also looking at my results for the year. What worked for me, and what didn’t.

AA: What do you do to celebrate the holiday season?

LH: On a personal side, Thanksgiving and Christmas are my favorite holidays. I love giving and making gifts. I also enjoy cooking for my family. I usually make cookies with my kids and send out Christmas cards. I haven’t decided what I will be doing this year. This is my grandson’s second Christmas, so I have to come up with something fun for him.

AA: What are you looking forward to during the 4th quarter of the year for the SORMAG’s Writers Cafe Podcast?

LH: This is the final season for the year, so I’m doing the last of the interviews. I usually take a break in December and January and start the new season in February.

This December, I will be working on updating my podcast – See Ya On The Net. I was invited to join a podcast network, so I need to add some new content.

AA: In addition to the podcast, you shared that you put on an annu al online book event, SORMAG Online Book Festival. Tell us a little more about the book festival.

LH: SORMAG Online Book Festival is three days of book fun. The first day is all about the book readers. The second day is about readers supporting authors, and the third is about readers becoming writers.

I started as a reader before becoming a magazine publisher, book promoter, and podcaster. I know how important readers are to the book industry. This event is my way of saying thank you to all the readers who support SORMAG and all the other authors.

AA: What’s next for the SORMAG’s Writers Café Podcast?

LH: I would love to feature more new authors. So many authors pub lish their books but aren’t getting the readership they want. I would like to help them introduce their books to readers.

AA: Share with us where and when people can listen to the SOR MAG’s Writers Café Podcast.

LH: The SORMAG’s Writer’s Café Podcast can be listened to on Spreaker.com, https://www.spreaker.com/user/swcafe. The podcast can also be listened to on other platforms, including I Heart Radio, Amazon Music, Itunes, Google Play, and Sound Cloud. It is also avail able on YouTube and My website – lashaundahoffman.com.

AA: How can people stay connected with you?

LH: Thank you so much for this opportunity to share about the pod cast and festival. I can be found online at www.lashaundahoffman. com. Troop

ExcLUsive Interview 33 THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

The Legendary R&B Group

The Legendary R&B Group TROOP Best Known For Their Smash Hit “Spread My Wings” and “All I Do Is Think Of You” Continues To Shower Us With Their Music. As They Are Still On The Move In 2022, I Will Never Forget How These Two Songs Hit The Billboards R&B Singles Chart. The New Generation Of Youngsters Can Now En joy The Smooth R&B Sound Of TROOP As They Currently Tour Across The Country.

The Heat Seekers: Please give a description of how the group started.

TROOP: We all auditioned for Rodney ‘s mother. At the time she was Managing the group.

THS: What were the founding members vision of the group?

TROOP: We wanted Troop to be different than any other r&b group that came before us. We wanted our singing to be soulful and our dancing to be inovative and creative.

THS: Give us details on what is was like when you first heard your song on the radio.

TROOP: Mamacita was our first debut single. Produced and written by the late Gerald LeVert and his cousin Mark Gordon. We were all at Rodney’s mother’s house when we first heard the record on the radio. It was mind blowing. A feeling I would never forget.

THS: Over the years R&B groups have changed, do you think music has changed for the good or the bad for R&B groups?

TROOP: I guess it would depend on what you think. R&B can not be replaced. There are still some artists out there that are doing some good r&b like Chris Brown, Usher, Donnell Jones, Justin Bieber, Ashanti and the list could go on. Music is about being creative so I respect all forms of music. R&B is definitely getting more attention and with groups like Troop still around, I think we can fairly say r&b is heading to main stream exposure again.

THS: Who is the comedian of the group?

TROOP: I think Reggie was the comedian of the group. Rest his soul. Reggie passed last year.

THS: Who sings the loudest or most outspoken?

TROOP: I would say Jon Jon sings the loudest. Allen would be the most outspoken.

THS: Now that the industry has changed and gone to dig ital music, how does that effect the groups success? Or does it?

TROOP: I think Troop’s success has already accurred we just need to Keep up with the changes, like having a solid online presence and continue to put out great music. Now as far as the streaming dynamic, that has changed the way we see our money on the record side.

THS: Are all original members still part of the group? If not, please list their names and time span with the group. TROOP: Yes, we are all Original Members.

THS: Tell us about a memorable moment on tour?

TROOP: A memorable moment for us is when we first per formed “All I Do Is Think Of You”. The crowd went crazy! This song is one of our biggest hits.

THS: Do you see a difference in your fan base in USA ver sus oversees?

TROOP: We haven’t spent as much time overseas as we have here in the states, so I really couldn’t say but we have been getting a lot of invitations to return to Holland, London and Japan.

34 THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

THS: Starting off so young I am sure there were memorable pranks involved. Describe if any?

TROOP: Steve would take pictures of us while we slept. Pictures with our mouths open or pics with us having funny faces because we were so tired. To look at those pictures was hilarious.

THS: Tell us of a time that a fan did something out of the ordinary while performing?

TROOP: I remember the first time a fan ran across the stage and grabbed Jon Jon. It was crazy. I thought to my self, we might be getting a little famous. Lol

THS: What is your take on music today?

TROOP: It’s a different generation so ideas have changed, sounds have changed, as far as the music production but I enjoy the creativity. The music industry always pushes the mark to find that special thing, that unique group or solo artist. Music will always be exactly that…a new inter pretation of emotions, feelings and convictions. Fans are enjoying music today just as they did years ago.

THS: What are the plans for the group in the future?

TROOP: Our plans are to continue to create great music. We are interested in some endorsements and being in volved on some soundtracks. We are also interested in starting our own label. We have been having discussions on taking some of this money and getting into real estate and possibly even open a restaurant.

THS: Is there anyone or a group that you would love to work with in the future?

TROOP: I would love to work with Snoop Dogg and Jay Z. (Allen)

THS: If you could give an up and coming young group some advice, what would it be?

TROOP: My advice would be to study your craft. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and always have your paperwork looked at by a knowledgeable Entertainment Lawyer.

THS: If you could do it all over again, would you change anything?

TROOP: I believe things happen as they should. I wouldn’t change anything and we are still moving forward on this journey so the possibilities are endless.

THS: Name 3 artists you admire..past or present?

TROOP: Michael Jackson, Prince and Aretha Franklin. I could go on and on but I will stop there.

THS: Does anyone in the group play instruments?

TROOP: Yes, Steve plays piano and Allen plays the flute. With the way technology is today it’s very easy to play a lot of instruments with one piece of equipment but stand alone… piano and flute.

THS: What can you state is different when touring from the 1990’s up until 2022?

TROOP: touring is touring. It’s been about the same to me. I love it. It’s such a awesome feeling to visit with the fans and just have a good time. The money is not too bad either. Lol

THS: Please let your audience know how to contact the group for future shows.

TROOP: You can reach out to us on Instagram at @of ficialtroop2022 or our Management by Email at grownn sexymusic18@gmail.com or strangemotelmusic@gmail. com

THS: Would you like to say anything special to your fans?

TROOP: We love you and we appreciate you. We couldn’t do it without you. Thank you for the love and support!

Thank You!

She also landed a lead role in BET’s “Angrily Ever After” (2019) and “Karen” (2021). In 2018, Jasmine published the book “Work Your Audition” to help actors and actresses sharpen their craft.

Recently wrapping the final season of Saints and Sinners, Jasmine is currently on set for her new thriller filming in Belize. With a great beach view in the background, I was able to sit down with her for a brief interview. She also called all independent filmmakers and creators to sub mit completed film projects at BlackFilmsRock.com. It’s an excellent opportunity for independent filmmakers and content creators.

Lissha Sadler: African American Actors are pioneers in the film and TV industries. How does it feel to be one of the elite blueprints that fuel the passions of many budding actors?

Jasmine Burke: I am very grateful to be an inspiration, but honestly, I feel like I’m still in my prime, learning to take time now to enjoy life and the journey, which is very important. I’m still working hard and looking forward to everything that’s coming.

LS: You have taken us on a 6-year rollercoaster ride as Christie on Saints and Sinners. Why do you think this show has been such a hit?

JB: Amazing hair and makeup, wardrobe, cinematography DP, it’s just a great package, and the writing and acting comple ment it. Some great storytelling, we all know fans, and the supporters love a great story.

LS: You are an accomplished actor and author, now director. What prompted you to go behind the camera?

JB: In my first couple of films, I did everything because of a lack of resources, but it has turned me into a great film maker. I love learning every piece, from writing the script to producing the production to directing and having a vision, just like having to be all of those things. It forced me to learn how to hone in on my gifts. So and then I just instantly knew I loved it.

LS: You have grown in your craft over the years. What is the biggest lesson you have learned about yourself throughout this journey?

JB: Goodness, I have learned that I’m a resilient person, and I appreciate that quality about myself.

Have you ever been to exit 115 in Buford South Carolina where the mall of Georgia is? I’m sure you have if you live in Georgia you have been there. Well across the street there’s a little restaurant in a shopping center and it’s called “Niko Niko”. I visited this sushi place a few years ago and then later I’ve taken a couple of friends with me also. But it’s been a while so today I thought Since I was coming through Atlanta Georgia after the radio show heading back to South Carolina I would stop by for a taste of some sushi.

This place has the best atmosphere. As you first walk in there is a fish tank with the water making the soft calming sound and they have beautiful large chandeliers hanging from the ceilings to create a great atmosphere. My server was wonderful. He help me choose which role would best fit my taste for the day. I chose the baked salmon roll.

Now when you come to this location I remember from the last time that your portions of the sushi rolls are so large and they’re very big and one roll is enough to fill you up. The sushi roll consisted of asparagus cream cheese cucumber and large portions of baked salmon on top drizzled with eel sauce and spicy sauce.

My server was so nice when I told him I wanted to write about this place because I remembered it from before. So he decided he would give me a complementary bowl of miso soup and salad. Im very particular about the ginger dressing. Each Japanese restau rant usually has their own style but this particular dressing was so good and it was seasoned just perfect.

The reason why I had the server help me choose is because their menu is detailed with so many different styles and de scriptions of sushi with photos of each item they serve. And it was so hard to choose. On the menu they even have a few celebrities that have sushi rolls named after them. It’s like they really make the food into a craft design too and that makes it even more delicious when you eat it.

The only bad thing about having a craving for sushi today and getting it at this particular location is that I live over two hours away. Everything about the atmosphere the service and the taste was superb. Today was a wonderful Tasteful tips in trips adventure visiting Niko Niko sushi restaurant.

Focus Forward with Robin highly recommends this place if you’re a resident of Buford or if your traveling through town like I was.
