Luis Guzmán and NYC Officials Rally Behind DISPLACED, A New Short Film Premiering at Soho International Film Festival

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

.

New York, NY – September 5, 2024 – DISPLACED, a powerful narrative film about the U.S. immigration court system, produced by FairSay Films, is set for its Northeastern premiere at the SOHO International Film Festival. The film has already garnered significant support from NYC officials and renowned actor and New Yorker Luis Guzmán.

Tiffany Hodges, the film’s Writer, Producer, and Lead Actor crafted the screenplay after volunteering with the New Sanctuary Coalition, an organization that aids immigrants in NYC. Inspired by her experiences accompanying undocumented immigrants to court, Hodges based the story on real asylum cases, portraying the emotional struggles of migrants and the high price they pay in their journey to become legal residents in America.

“My goal was to humanize immigrants who follow the rules yet are treated like criminals,” said Hodges. “These are hardworking people who want to do the right thing but are up against a system designed to keep them out.”

Hodges sent the script to Executive Producer Cemí Guzmán of Dark Rabbit Productions, who then shared it with his father, acclaimed actor Luis Guzmán After reading the script, Luis Guzmán visited the set and told Hodges, “This script brought me to tears.”

Fiscally sponsored by New York Women in Film & Television, DISPLACED was first screened privately at the prestigious Anthology Film Archives in April 2024. The sold- out event attracted politicians, filmmakers, and social activists, all eager to not only watch the film but also discuss real solutions to the immigration crisis.

NYC Council Member Keith Powers, representing District 4, was part of a panel discussion following the screening. “DISPLACED is a great window into the everyday experience of individuals going through the immigration process – which many people will never experience so will never understand the difficulties, frustration, and life- changing experiences,” said Powers

Through gripping storytelling and heartfelt performances, DISPLACED gives audiences an unfiltered glimpse in to the harsh realities faced by immigrants under current U.S. policies, highlighting the urgent need for change.

Rasheeda and Kirk Frost have been trending lately since an episode of Love & Hip Hop aired featuring Jasmine Bleu, Kirk's baby mother from a few years ago, popped up. Kirk seemed very calm in her presence and hinted that he may still be dealing with her unbeknownst to his wife, Rasheeda. *Insert side eye here*

I know this is a reality show, and it is for entertainment, and of course, the Frosts are paid for the role they play by Mona Scott, but at what point do you say my reputation is not for sale? I will not repeatedly humiliate my significant other or myself on national television for a check and C-list celeb status and a mention on The Shade Room.

In my opinion, Although Kirk is definitely foul for doing this to his wife, Rasheeda gets some blame, too, because she BELIEVED she could forgive him. He would be faithful after having a baby with another woman, and his son, Karter, was three around the time the baby was conceived.

Jasmine is to blame, too, as she disrespected herself- first by sleeping with a married man, willingly knowing Kirk was married, and attempting to have ANY relationship besides co-parenting is DISRESPECTFUL. To call Rasheeda a victim, I believe so is Jasmine because he has lied to both of them and reproduced with them and will go on television and make them both look stupid. The selective victim is what I would like to call it since Rasheeda WAS initially the victim of Kirk's cheating when she did not know, but after she chose to stay, and he continues to cheat, she has to take responsibility too!

So, to my dear sisters out there, you have to spit him out! You are NOT a rehabilitation center for poorly raised men. It is NOT your job to try to FIX, CHANGE, TRAIN, PARENT, or RAISE him. You want a PARTNER, not a project. Nothing will keep a man who does not wish to be kept, no matter how many meals you cook for him, how good your head game is, how much money you spend on him, or how easily you make yourself sexually available to him, how many children you have by him. He has eyes on what he ultimately wants, and it is not YOU, so SPIT HIM OUT!

Sincerely,

Kisha Green You were born to win, but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win.-Zig Ziglar

Project 2025 vs. Agenda 47: A Comparative Analysis of Two Dangerous Blueprints for America’s Future

In recent political discourse, two policy frameworks have emerged as potential blueprints for conservative governance in the United States: "Project 2025" and "Agenda 47." While both proposals aim to reshape the federal government and redirect the nation’s course, they differ in their origins, priorities, and strategies. Despite these differences, both frameworks share common threads that could have significant negative consequences for American society, threatening to undermine democracy, exacerbate economic inequality, and weaken social safety nets. This article explores the key differences between Project 2025 and Agenda 47; while highlighting the potential harm each could inflict on the American public.

Origins and Purpose

Project 2025 is a comprehensive policy agenda crafted by a coalition of conservative think tanks, most notably The Heritage Foundation The project is designed to provide a roadmap for a future conservative administration, with a focus on dramatically reducing the size and scope of the federal government, curbing regulatory agencies, and implementing conservative policies across various sectors, including healthcare, education, and the environment. Project 2025 envisions a federal government that is smaller, more centralized, and more aligned with conservative ideological principles.

Agenda 47, on the other hand, is closely associated with former President Donald Trump and his potential second-term policy platform. The agenda is rooted in the "America First" ideology that characterized Trump is first term, emphasizing economic nationalism, immigration restriction, and a more isolationist foreign policy. Agenda 47 is less focused on institutional restructuring and more on reasserting executive power, reducing international engagements, and rolling back progressive policies enacted during the Biden administration.

Economic Policies

Both Project 2025 and Agenda 47 advocate for significant changes to the American economy, but they approach these changes from slightly different angles

Project 2025 emphasizes reducing government spending and cutting taxes, particularly for the wealthy and corporations It advocates for a reduction in the federal workforce, the privatization of certain government services, and a rollback of regulations that are seen as impediments to economic growth. The overarching goal is to create a leaner, more efficient government that places greater trust in market forces. Critics argue that these policies could exacerbate economic inequality by disproportionately benefiting the wealthy while reducing essential public services for low- and middle-income Americans.

Agenda 47 also promotes tax cuts and deregulation, but its economic agenda is more explicitly tied to protectionist trade policies and the re-shoring of American jobs. Trump’s agenda is driven by a desire to prioritize American workers and industries, often through tariffs and trade barriers that protect domestic production. However, critics warn that such protectionist measures could lead to trade wars, higher consumer prices, and retaliatory actions from other countries, ultimately harming the global economy and reducing America’s competitiveness.

Immigration

Both agendas take a hardline stance on immigration, but with different focal points

Project 2025 seeks to curtail immigration by reducing the power and scope of federal agencies that oversee immigration policy, such as the Department of Homeland Security. It advocates for stricter border enforcement, a reduction in legal immigration, and the elimination of sanctuary cities. The project’s approach is more institutional, aiming to fundamentally alter how the federal government manages immigration and border security.

Agenda 47 also emphasizes strict immigration control, but it is more populist in nature. Trump’s agenda includes proposals for expanding the border wall, implementing harsher deportation policies, and enacting more stringent vetting processes for immigrants and refugees. The focus is on visible, high-profile actions that resonate with the "America First" base, but critics argue that these policies could harm immigrant communities, create a climate of fear, and weaken sectors of the economy that rely heavily on immigrant labor.

Environmental and Regulatory Policies

Project 2025 and Agenda 47 both advocate for a rollback of environmental protections, but with different motivations and methods.

Project 2025 calls for the dismantling of key environmental regulations, arguing that they are overly burdensome to businesses and hinder economic growth. The project proposes reducing the power of agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and prioritizing fossil fuels over renewable energy sources. Critics argue that this deregulation could lead to increased pollution, harm public health, and slow the transition to a sustainable energy future, exacerbating the climate crisis.

Agenda 47 similarly seeks to reduce environmental regulations, but it is more focused on promoting energy independence through expanded oil, gas, and coal production Trump’s agenda emphasizes the importance of energy dominance as a key component of national security and economic strength. However, this approach risks further entrenching the United States in a fossil fuel-based economy, delaying necessary action on climate change, and putting the country at odds with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

Foreign Policy

In terms of foreign policy, Project 2025 and Agenda 47 differ significantly in their approaches

Project 2025 is less explicitly focused on foreign policy, but it aligns with a broader conservative agenda of reducing U S involvement in international organizations and agreements The project supports a more unilateral approach to global challenges, with an emphasis on protecting American interests and reducing foreign aid

Agenda 47, however, takes a more aggressive stance on foreign policy, advocating for a withdrawal from multilateral agreements and organizations that Trump views as detrimental to American sovereignty. The agenda calls for renegotiating trade deals, reducing the U.S. presence in international alliances, and adopting a more isolationist stance. Critics warn that this approach could weaken America’s global influence, alienate allies, and create a vacuum that could be filled by rival powers like China and Russia.

impact on Democracy and Governance

Both Project 2025 and Agenda 47 pose significant risks to democratic governance and the rule of law in the United States.

Project 2025 advocates for a dramatic restructuring of the federal government, with a focus on centralizing power within the executive branch The project seeks to reduce the independence of federal agencies, increase the president’s authority over regulatory decisions, and weaken the role of Congress in governance. Critics argue that this could undermine the system of checks and balances that is essential to American democracy, paving the way for authoritarian tendencies. Agenda 47 also threatens democratic norms, but in a different way. Trump’s agenda emphasizes the use of executive power to achieve policy goals, often bypassing Congress, and the judiciary. The agenda includes proposals to limit the influence of the media, restrict voting rights, and crack down on political dissent Critics warn that these actions could erode civil liberties, weaken democratic institutions, and create a more polarized and divided society.

While Project 2025 and Agenda 47 differ in their origins, strategies, and specific policy proposals, both represent a significant shift towards a more conservative, authoritarian, and nationalist vision of America. The implementation of either agenda could have farreaching negative consequences for the American people, including increased economic inequality, environmental degradation, weakened democratic institutions, and a more divided society.

As the nation considers these proposals, it is crucial to critically examine their potential impact and to advocate for policies that promote inclusivity, equity, and sustainability The future of American democracy and the well-being of its citizens depend on resisting the dangerous trends embodied by Project 2025 and Agenda 47.

Hello, Pathfinders

Yes, I am a literary agent—among other things—to about seven authors that I’ve been working with for years. I’ve landed them book deals with publishers such as Kensington, Urban Books, Simon and Schuster, Random House, and other independent publishers with distribution deals.

Not too long ago, two of my clients received publishing offers. One accepted and the other decided not to, ultimately choosing to take everything she’s learned under me plus the resources and curriculum offered by my company, Path To Publishing, and self-publish her book. Both authors have studied the craft of writing and the business of publishing for years under my guidance, but when it came down to it, they each had different goals that required different paths to publishing.

I couldn’t be prouder of them both for choosing the path that is going to allow them to achieve their literary dreams, visions, and goals.

Although I’m not taking on any new clients, if you want to learn the different paths to publishing your book and find the one that’s right for you, be sure to take our free "What's Your Path to Publishing?" quiz.

P.S. It took five years to land a book deal for the author who ultimately turned her contract down. So, don't be surprised if your goals change for each particular literary project or for your literary goals overall.

V HELENA HALL

THS: What was your most memorable experience?

VHH: Wow…that’s a hard one because I’ve enjoyed and remember just about every interview I’ve done. If I had to pick one though, I would say it was with Norman Brown, the grammy-winning Jazz musician. That interview was so uplifting because he’s a very deep thinker and is very passionate about his craft. I’d met him before when I was one of the producers who put in a proposal to produce a music video for his song, Better Days Ahead. Yes, I would say hands down, that was the most memorable so far.

THS: Do you have any favorite people that you would like to work with?

VHH: No favorites…well, maybe Oprah. LOL.

THS: Any upcoming projects that you would like to share?

VHH: I’m working on a book and a television series that I will share more details on in the very near future. Too early to discuss right now, but it’s coming soon! I also have an amazing interview coming up next month that I should be able to share in a few days, but can’t let the cat out yet. It’s a jaw-dropper though, I promise!

THS: Do you have any publications of your own?

VHH: I’m working on a suspense thriller with my publisher, Brown Girls Books, that should be out early next year. The other two projects are still under wraps.

THS: What do you find most difficult about the television industry?

VHH: It’s not easy breaking into it, but I like that it’s a selective vibe. Folks are finding creative ways to break in through social media, and I think that’s cool too. Creativity is the key and if you are a creative, you will definitely win whether it’s in the big or little pond.

THS: Tell about the upcoming cruise for authors?

VHH: We had to pivot on that project, unfortunately. We weren’t getting very many hits inspite of the wonderful line-up of talent we were able to attract as Masterclass leaders. We’ve decided to go another route that will keep us on land and I’ll be putting something out soon on that front. I think it’s a great idea and I think people will like the proposed alternative. To stay in contact with us on that front, folks should like our page on Facebook (writers and readers escape).

THS: Do you only interview authors on your show?

VHH: We interview writers of every artistic genre.

THS: Are you full time in the broadcasting industry?

VHH: es, but I will be even more engaged in the next few months as I unload some other responsibilities on my plate.

One thing about it... I love to represent Focus Forward with Robin on the Go and drive to visit different places and venues. Recently I googled “healthy food” and Eat KarmaFarm came up. So I drove by peach tree rd and I was conveniently able to park nearby in the retail garage. Upon my arrival I noticed the food selection was cafeteria style. They were bright and colorful. You could select a bowl style with protein and two sides. Scott, the owner was gracious enough to let me sample a few protein choices. Although the pesto chicken and the tangy mustard barbecue was outstanding and flavorful I chose the most popular, the sesame chicken. My side choices were cabbage and beets. The beets were square bites and they had a tad bit of vinegar zing but very mild, so I ate every bite! The cabbage was good but wasn’t soft enough for my texture liking. So I ate half of it. For dessert I had the chicly chip and granola bar. Scott treated me with this and said once heated up for 15 seconds I’d love it. And boy did I! For my drink selection room I had the watermelon Pineapple ginger refresher. It was perfect! As a person who loves ginger, I’m nervous to try anything over tasting but it was so smoothe. If you are ever in the peach tree area of Atlanta, and you want a gluten free meal that’s filing and satisfying be sure to visit Scott at Karna farm I definitely will be returning

RAGAN WHITESIDE

Teresa B.:I wanted to know, based upon what I read about you and your music, how did it all start?

Ragan Whiteside: I've had a lot of different starts if you will. I guess I started when I was about four or five in Mount Vernon, New York. My uncle had a drum set and he would let me just wail on that thing and my parents said okay, she seems like a music kid. Let's get her some piano lessons. So I started with piano and then I added the violin. It was really only because my friends were playing violin but it was an instrument and I loved instruments. At the time, the city had a parade that went through the town called the Band Day parade where all of the schools in the district would have their bands march through the parade. I was around eight years old and I was like, my God, I need to be in this thing, but I played violin. So around fourth grade, the band teacher came around to recruit and I said, okay, I'm gonna be in this parade. I wanted to play the drums but the teacher stated that there weren't enough drums to go around. The boys want to play them so I had to pick something else. I said give me a flute or a clarinet. I didn't really want to play either, but I was given the flute and it took me about a week to get a sound out of it. Once I got the sound out, I started to like it. I started getting good at it and started playing a lot of classical stuff. Although, originally I wanted to go into jazz, my private teacher at the time was like, nope your foundation is in classical, then you can go do jazz. Okay fine. So now I'm getting forced into classical, but I started to get good at it. And I thought, maybe I can be in an orchestra for a living or be a classical soloist. So that was my path for a long time and I went to a conservatory for college. I got to my senior year of college and the classical world wasn't sitting in my spirit the way I felt it needed to. It's an intense process to get and keep those orchestral jobs. I just felt that if I was going to endure that kind of pressure, I need to really love it... and I mean really love it! I didn't love it that way, and so when I graduated, I wasn't sure what I was going to do with my life. I went back home to New York and went to this little jazz club in Scarsdale and Bob Baldwin and Marion Meadows were playing. I was sitting right up front and I knew right there that's what I wanted to do. So I went up to Bob and said I'm a classical musician, but I want to make the transition to Jazz. What advice do you have for me? We ended up talking for a good 30 to 45 minutes and two days later, I was in the studio with him doing a jingle for 101.9, which was the smooth jazz station in New York at the time. That day pretty much changed the trajectory of my whole life. Over the next few years, I learned how to break every rule that I had just learned in the classical world. Dennis Johnson, who owned the studio, allowed me to become a studio rat. He taught me how to make music with computers and how to run a session and eventually, he actually became my husband. I've been on this contemporary jazz kick ever since.

Teresa B.: And 14 years later, you're still about music and still together? That's Awesome.

Ragan Whiteside: Yeah, it'll be 14 years this year. We've been together over 20 years, but married for 14.

Teresa B.: So through your travels, what was one of the best places you can say that you enjoyed performing?

Ragan Whiteside: I would have to say Mallorca, Spain. It's a little island off the coast of Spain in the Mediterranean. It was the Mallorca Smooth Jazz Festival and it was just incredible. It was my first time experiencing the Spanish culture and the island was beautiful. The culture was beautiful, the speed of everything was just like it was perfect. The general scenery was absolutely gorgeous, the food was amazing, and it was just such a great vibe.

Teresa B.: Do you see a difference between the American fans versus other countries?

Ragan Whiteside: That's a good question. Sometimes yes, I think that depending on where you are, the feel of the audience can vary from country to country, even from State to State. There are places where it is the norm to chat through a performance, and there are places where the norm is to be absolutely silent until the last note. Either way, the audience is there to hear and enjoy good music, so I guess it’s all good! I would love to experience the audience in Japan. I haven’t played there yet, but my musician friends say the audience is SUPER appreciative.

Teresa B.: You'll be in Japan one day you watch.. mark my words. Do you find that you have to work harder than most musicians out there being an African American female?

Ragan Whiteside: I think to a certain extent you have to deal with a lot of things that other people might not have to deal with. I think this is every woman's plight honestly. It feels like you have to prove yourself over and over again.

Teresa B.: Yes, I do understand. If you had to choose anyone in the music industry to work with, who would you choose?

Ragan Whiteside: There are so many, I mean Stevie Wonder, of course. Babyface, Chaka Khan, Jill Scott, Bruno Mars…there are a lot of people I would love to work with, and for a lot of different reasons.

Teresa B.: Good. If you had one wish when it came to your career,…what would you do differently? Ragan Whiteside: That's tough. Because without all of the little things the highs, the lows, and the in between struggles, heartbreaks and joy, all of it has made me who I am today as a musician. So I really wouldn't do anything differently and I like where I am as a musician. I want to continue to grow and so I don't think there has been one thing where I would say, “I should have just went on and did that”. I'm not that person. I take every experience for what it is and I learn as much as I can from it. But one wish that I do have for the future is that all musicians get paid what they're worth and that low balling becomes a thing of the past. I don't think the general public has any idea how much time, energy, and money that has to go into this. That's why people set their prices where they set them.

Teresa B.: What advice would you give the up and coming musicians?

Ragan Whiteside: Develop a thick skin and learn everything you can about this business,…especially the underbelly of it. There's a lot out here and you have to be able to protect yourself, and the only way to protect yourself is to have that knowledge.

Teresa B.: How can people reach you to book you for shows and events?

Ragan Whiteside: You can always reach me through my website RaganWhiteside.com. I'm also on social media at @RaganWhitesideMusic Facebook or at @RaganWhiteside on Instagram.

The Heatseekers Magazine Exclusive Interview

The R&B group Hi FIVE best known for the smash hit “I Like the Way” and “The Kissing Game” continues to shower us with their music. As they are still on the move in 2024, I will never forget how these two songs hit the billboards at No. 1 back in 1991. The new generation of youngsters can now enjoy the smooth R&B sound of HI-FIVE as they currently tour across the country. PHOTO CREDIT FOR COVER AND ARTICLE PICS: CHRIS GREMLER @chrisgremler

THS: Who sings the loudest or most outspoken?

HF: (Treston Irby) I'm definitely the most outspoken. I'm quite sure everybody is gonna say that. I'll be surprised if, it wil be anything different, but I think Faruq sings the loudest.

HF: (Billy Covington) Trus sings the loudest I'm probably the most outspoken.

HF: (Faruq Evans) Treston

THS: Now that the industry has changed and gone to digital music. How does that affect the group's success? Or does it?

HF: (Treston Irby) I mean, we're gonna find out after we drop this new single with H town called Slow Grind. I think that we're gonna figure it out. We're gonna see what happens. God is good.

HF: (Billy Covington) As I stated before it's expensive. Now being independent we have to put up our own money for our projects in order to get them out. Most record companies aren't willing to put the money up anymore. So we bring the project, and they do the distribution.

HF: (Faruq Evans) it actually makes things easier that you can get your music out at the push of a button.

THS: Tell us about a memorable moment on tour?

HF: ( Treston Irby) I mean, there's so many memorable moments on tour. Every time we go, every show is different. Every show has its own memorable moment. Wow, that's a good question. Memorable. There's so many, I gotta pick one out. One memorable moment, when we went to Teddy Riley’s show just watching in the audience. He called us up on the stage and you know, I was like yeah, do some freestyle, acappella kissing game type deal. It was a great moment.

Then another time was when we performed with him at the Essence Fest in the Super dome in Louisiana, that was dope. That was a big ass dome (lol). 75,000 people there, that show was big.

HF (Billy Covington) Just being on tour with some Legends is very memorable. I got invited into a picture with Big Daddy Kane ,Chubb Rock, and Al B Sure while on a tour. It's those moments that make touring most memorable for me.

HF:(Faruq Evans) I remember my first time sharing the stage with Teddy Riley and I almost forgot the words.

THS: Do you see a difference in your fan base in the US versus overseas?

HF: (Treston Irby) Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. There's always a difference. There's a big difference, you know what I'm saying? But the fan base overseas, when they come to the concert, they're loud. They show mad love. They make you feel special over there, you know what I mean? But it's not the same in the States.

The States are dope too. It's just two different types of vibes, But we perform wherever, wherever the fans are at that’s where we’ll be! We love our fans. So it could be United States or overseas as long as we can get to them, we give them a Hi- Five experience

HF: (Billy Covington) You can definitely see a difference. I guess the excitement is different overseas because we are not as accessible to them in person as we are in the states. So there is a bit more fandom overseas.

HF: (Faruq Evans) absolutely!

THS: What is your take on music today?

HF: (Treston Irby) Hey, it is what it is. music today? It is what it is, man. You know, like I said, it evolves. Music evolves. So what you don't like, don't listen to, what you like, you’re going to listen to it. That's all I can say. I'm not really too judgmental on that, you know. So I want everybody to go out there, get that new High five and H town record “Slow Grind”. Yeah, nineties R and B throwback. Its what Nineties R and B groups are about, you know.

HF : (Billy Covington) Music is forever evolving. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. I think what's valued more now is quantity over quality. Just because it doesn't take a major label to put out music anymore, anyone can do it. So there is not that "Talent" oversight that we used to have where those without enough talent had to go home, practice and get better. Coupled with the fact that all of the Major Studios are now closed, and home Studios have taken over the industry. So the lines have been blurred between what's popular and what is actually good music.

HF (Faruq Evans) there’s still good music out there, you just have to find it.

THS: What are the plans for the group in the future?

HF: (Treston Irby) To just keep on giving our fans new music. As long as the fans want us to go on the road, as long as the fans want to see us and get on TV. I want to write my next book “Hiatus” book two. Also get our bio pick out, not leaving any stones unturned this trip. So whatever the good Lord has in store for us, we're taking it.

HF : (Billy Covington) Just to keep doing what we love. Giving the fans new music, staying on tour, and keeping the legacy of Hi five going.

HF: (Faruq Evans) to make more memorable music, and sing these songs for the people around the world.

THS: Are all original members still part of the group? If not, please list their names and time span with the group.

HF: (Treston Irby) Mac is an OG. He's been in the group since day one. Then I came around, we like to say I came around like day five or something like that (lol). But yeah, I came around in 90 and Gil came around probably like three years after that. And then like around 11 years ago, we got Faruq and Billy

THS: If you could give an up and coming young group some advice, what would it be?

HF: (Treston Irby) Advice? Stay tuned in to people who are true to you. Always keep somebody next to you that knows you and keeps you grounded and that you trust. That could watch your back, that could watch the people around you. There's a chance you're not even paying attention to them, but you have somebody who loves you that's paying attention, that can see the things you can't see, and just give you different perspectives on things. Stay prayed up. Ask God to watch over them and be their eyes and ears for you. Yeah, that's what you do. Stay prayed up and ask God to give you everybody and everything that you need and allow you to recognize it.

HF: (Billy Covington) Keep God first, do It for the love of the craft, be patient, and drown out the outside noise of the music industry.

HF: (Faruq Evans) stay consistent, humble and focused.

THS: If you could do it all over again, would you change anything?

HF: (Treston Irby) Would I change anything?. No, I mean, I don't know. That's a hard question because then I wouldn't be the person I am today if I did change anything. That's a hard question. But if I had to change anything I would have never left Jive records when we left them. I would have taken that decision back.

HS: Is there anyone or a group that you would love to work with in the future?

HF: (Treston Irby) Everybody. Everybody that wants to work with us, I wanna work with them for real. Because everybody is artist man in their own right. So yeah, right now, although I'm in my fifties, I'm like a sponge. I'm just absorbing everything. So me personally I wanna work with everybody, doesn’t even matter what generation.

HF: (Billy Covington) There are so many. We've made a lot of friends and met a lot of talented artists and producers that we would like to work with. Just a matter of connecting and making hits.

HF: (Faruq Evans) Mint condition, Boyz II Men, usher & Chris brown.

HF: (Billy Covington) I would definitely change a few things. I would change some failed business models and strategies knowing what I know now. I would have gotten a mentor a lot earlier in the game. And I would have taken the business side of this a lot more serious at a younger age.

HF: (Faruq Evans) No.

THS: Name 3 artists you admire..past or present?

HF: (Treston Irby) Prince, and Michael Jackson.

HF:( Billy Covington) I have high admiration for Quincy Jones. He is my Beethoven of this era of music. Next would be Prince and Michael Jackson. They were both Geniuses in their own right. To me the greatest artists to ever grace the stage. And I also greatly admire Young Brother Chris Breezy. Despite trials, tribulations, and being judged constantly, he has never given up and he has never lost his love for his craft. We all make mistakes in our lives but we should never be judged for the rest of our lives for mistakes we made as teenagers. People change.

HF: (Faruq Evans) George Benson, Michael Jackson, Prince.

THS: Starting off so young. I'm sure there were memorable pranks involved. Describe any.

HF: (Treston Irby) Oh man, man, you really got me thinking going back. Let me see, I probably can't go far real far, right? I mean there's a couple of pranks but we can't talk about that(lol) Yeah, we can't talk about that because we are growing up now. But yeah, there was, this is a little while ago. Not too long ago though. I was missing a shirt. I had a shirt actually, looking for a tank top and I'm like, damn. Where's my tank top? Where's my tank top? I'm looking for a tank top before the show. I'm turning around and Gil got the tank top on and I'm like that don't look right on Gil cause you know, I'm bigger than Gil. Gil like he was swimming in it and he was like, that's mine… that's my shirt. He had it on like it was his, and it was so funny. We all thought it was funny that he pranked me. He watched me look for it and the whole time and he had it on. It was kinda funny.

THS: Please let your audience know how to contact the group for future shows.

HF: (Faruq Evans) officialHiFive on ALL social media platforms

THS: Would you like to say anything special to your fans?

HF: (Treston Irby) Yeah, I just wanna say to our friends, fans, and followers, Thank you for supporting us for over 30 years watching us grow, and growing up with us through the hard times and still staying with us through the good times as well. We got some new music coming out and can't wait for you guys to hear it. We're coming to your city soon. So we want you guys to come out and support us, and come have a Hi five experience when we come to your city. Rest in peace to Tony Thompson and Roderick Poo Clark. We’re keeping the legacy alive. So let's go.

HF : (Billy Covington) We love you, we appreciate you, and thank you for staying around for this chapter of our journey. We still have so much more to give. Stay tuned!!

HF: (Faruq Evans) we love y’all, past, present & future

States Implementing Project 2025-Inspired Policies: A Blueprint for Restricting Rights

and Reducing Government

As the 2024 presidential election looms, conservative policymakers across the United States have begun to adopt and implement policies that reflect the principles laid out in "Project 2025," a blueprint for future governance developed by The Heritage Foundation and other conservative think tanks. While Project 2025 is primarily designed as a federal strategy, its influence is increasingly being felt at the state level, where Republican-controlled legislatures and governors are enacting laws that align with its goals of reducing government, restricting rights, and prioritizing conservative values

This article examines several states that have implemented versions of Project 2025’s principles and explores how these policies are impacting residents

Texas: A Laboratory for Conservative Governance

Texas has long been a stronghold for conservative politics, and under the leadership of Governor Greg Abbott and a Republican-dominated legislature, the state has become a testing ground for many of the ideas espoused in Project 2025. In recent years, Texas has enacted sweeping legislation on a range of issues, including voting rights, abortion, and education

Voting Rights: Texas has passed laws that restrict voting access under the guise of combating voter fraud, echoing Project 2025’s emphasis on "election integrity " These laws include stricter voter ID requirements, reduced early voting hours, and limitations on mail-in voting Critics argue that these measures disproportionately impact minority voters and those with limited access to transportation or flexible work hours, effectively disenfranchising large segments of the population.

Abortion: In line with Project 2025’s conservative social agenda, Texas has enacted some of the nation’s most restrictive abortion laws, including Senate Bill 8, which bans most abortions after six weeks and allows private citizens to sue anyone who "aids and abets" an abortion. This law severely restricts reproductive rights and access to healthcare, particularly for low-income women and women of color.

Education: Texas has also pushed for policies that limit how issues of race, gender, and sexuality are taught in schools These policies reflect Project 2025’s goal of promoting a more conservative educational agenda that rejects so-called "woke" ideologies and focuses on a traditional, patriotic curriculum

Florida: A Model of Authoritarian Governance

Under Governor Ron DeSantis, Florida has become another key state where Project 2025’s principles are being implemented. DeSantis, a potential 2024 presidential candidate, has embraced a governance style that combines cultural conservatism with aggressive executive action.

Education and Free Speech: Florida has enacted laws restricting how teachers can discuss issues of race, gender, and sexual orientation in the classroom. The state’s "Stop WOKE Act" limits discussions on systemic racism and other forms of discrimination, aligning with Project 2025’s goal of eliminating what it sees as leftist indoctrination in schools Additionally, DeSantis has pushed legislation that restricts the autonomy of public universities, increasing state control over curricula and faculty hiring LGBTQ+ Rights: Florida has also passed laws that target LGBTQ+ rights, including the "Don’t Say Gay" bill, which prohibits discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in early grades These policies reflect Project 2025’s broader agenda to promote traditional family values and reduce the visibility and rights of LGBTQ+ individuals.

Executive Power: DeSantis has used his executive authority to override local government decisions and punish corporations that oppose his policies, such as Disney. This approach mirrors Project 2025’s emphasis on centralizing power within the executive branch and reducing the influence of other governmental and nongovernmental entities

Georgia: Voting Rights Under Siege

Georgia, a battleground state that has seen significant political shifts in recent years, has also adopted measures that reflect the principles of Project 2025, particularly in voting rights.

Election Law Changes: In response to false claims of widespread voter fraud during the 2020 election, Georgia’s Republican-led legislature passed a sweeping election law in 2021 that restricts voting access. The law includes provisions that reduce the availability of absentee ballots, limit the use of drop boxes, and increase state control over county election boards These changes are consistent with Project 2025’s focus on "securing" elections, but they have been widely criticized as efforts to suppress voter turnout, particularly among Black and minority voters

Arizona: Restricting Rights and Deregulating Government

Arizona, another key battleground state, has seen its Republican leadership push forward a series of conservative policies that align with Project 2025’s goals.

Reproductive Rights: Following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Arizona enacted restrictive abortion laws, including a 15-week ban. These measures reflect Project 2025’s emphasis on limiting access to abortion and rolling back reproductive rights.

Healthcare: Arizona has also pursued policies aimed at deregulating healthcare, including efforts to reduce Medicaid enrollment, and cut funding for public health initiatives These moves are in line with Project 2025’s goal of reducing the size of government and limiting public assistance programs, but they risk leaving many Arizonans without access to essential healthcare services

Missouri: Pushing the Limits on Gun Rights and Education

Missouri has become a prominent example of a state embracing Project 2025’s principles, particularly in the areas of gun rights and education.

Gun Rights: Missouri’s legislature has passed laws that expand gun rights, including a measure that nullifies federal gun laws within the state. This approach aligns with Project 2025’s goal of reducing federal government power and promoting states’ rights, but it raises concerns about public safety and the state’s ability to address gun violence effectively

Education: Missouri has also moved to limit how issues of race and history are taught in schools, reflecting Project 2025’s emphasis on promoting a conservative educational agenda These efforts include bans on critical race theory and restrictions on discussions of systemic inequality, which critics argue whitewash history and prevent students from learning about important social issues

The Broader Impact on Americans

The adoption of Project 2025-inspired policies at the state level poses significant risks to the rights and wellbeing of Americans. These policies often prioritize conservative ideological goals over the needs and rights of vulnerable populations, leading to increased inequality, restricted freedoms, and reduced access to essential services. As more states adopt these measures, the potential for widespread harm grows, threatening to undermine the progress made in areas such as civil rights, healthcare, and environmental protection. Project 2025’s influence is already being felt across the United States as conservative states implement policies that reflect its principles. While these measures are celebrated by some as a return to traditional values and limited government, they pose serious threats to the rights, health, and safety of millions of Americans. As this trend continues, it is essential for citizens and policymakers to critically evaluate the impact of these policies and advocate for a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future.

When did you know that writing is what you were called to do?

I realized that writing was my calling when I began to see my own life’s trials and tribulations as a potential blessing for others. My first book, More Than Sisters, was based on my life story, and I always felt a deep desire to share that journey. Growing up, I knew that my story had to be told, even if I couldn’t see what lay beyond that initial step. The impact my words could have on others kept pushing me to write and share my experiences.

What is it about being a writer that you love the most or frustrates you the most?

What I love most about being a writer is the process of creating stories and getting to know my characters on a deep level. Also, it’s incredibly rewarding to hear from readers and see how my work resonates with them. On the flip side, the greatest frustration for me is the time-consuming nature of editing. It’s a painstaking but necessary process, and I am truly grateful for my team of editors. They are the best in the business, and their dedication helps bring my stories to life.

Please tell us a little about your book(s) and where our readers can find out more about them and you.

I write contemporary Christian novels, and I recently ventured into the sweet romance genre. My books explore themes of faith, love, and personal growth, offering readers inspiring and heartwarming stories. You can find more about my books on Amazon and on my website at www.masondunn.com.

Where do you draw your inspiration from for the stories that you manage to weave together and the characters that you create?

I draw my inspiration from everyday experiences. By putting myself in the place of my characters, I can react and respond as they would, making their stories feel authentic and relatable. I also get inspiration for my characters from the people I meet every day, whose unique personalities and stories enrich the worlds I create.

Do you outline your novels?

Yes, I outline my novels. I think of my outline as a guide or roadmap to keep me focused on my destination. It is a working document, and sometimes I get off course because the characters have their own plans for the story. But, just like taking a long trip, if I take a detour, I use the roadmap to get back on track and reach my destination.

What projects are you currently working on?

I’ve fallen in love with romance, so naturally, my current project is another romance novel! I’m having a blast weaving together the lives of my new characters and seeing where their love story takes them. It’s an exciting journey, and I can’t wait to share it with my readers.

What has been your most significant achievement as a writer thus far?

I consider my most significant achievement as a writer thus far to be the publication of my first novel, “More Than Sisters ” This heartfelt story recounts how my oldest sister, Viola, and her husband, Henry, took me into their home and raised me after the death of our parents. Writing this book allowed me to express my deep appreciation for the sacrifices they made for me, and to share that gratitude with the world. It’s a tribute to their love and generosity, and it means everything to me that I could honor them in this way.

Where do you see yourself within your career in the next five years?

In the next five years, I see myself offering a full line of services to new and aspiring authors, helping them navigate the steps to avoid the mistakes I made. I want to provide guidance and support so they can bring their stories to life Alongside these services, I’ll continue my own writing endeavors, creating new and inspiring novels. So, in five years, I’ll be both a mentor and a prolific author, balancing my passion for storytelling with helping others achieve their literary dreams.

How have you dealt with rejection within your writing career?

When dealing with rejection, my faith in God has been my greatest source of strength. I believe that if I’m rejected, it simply means that God did not have that particular thing in store for me. If He has something for me, it will come to pass in His perfect timing. This perspective helps me stay positive and keep moving forward, knowing that the right opportunities will come when they’re meant to.

What is your advice for other writers to better be able to cope or navigate their way through the publishing process, be it traditional or selfpublishing?

My advice to other writers navigating the publishing process is to become your own best expert. Whether you’re going the traditional route or selfpublishing, it’s crucial to educate yourself on every step of the journey Understand what you’re doing and what the people you hire are doing. Think of it as being the captain of your literary ship you wouldn’t sail into uncharted waters without a map and compass! The more you know, the smoother your journey will be, and the better you’ll be able to steer your way to success.

Do you find it hard to juggle the creative side of being a writer against the business side of being a writer, in terms of marketing and promotion and things of that nature?

Balancing the creative and business sides of being a writer can be challenging, but my background gives me an edge. I hold a degree in business administration and an advanced degree in public relations, which puts me ahead of the game on the business side of writing. However, when it comes to marketing and promotion, I prefer to outsource those tasks to professionals who are educated and experienced in those areas. This approach saves me a lot of time and money, allowing me to focus more on my writing.

How hard has it been (or easy) for you to build up your author platform?

Building my author platform has been an ongoing process! Developing a platform is crucial for connecting with readers and getting my work out there, but it’s no walk in the park. It takes consistent effort and a lot of learning along the way. While it’s not an easy task, it’s necessary, and the rewards make it all worthwhile. Plus, it keeps things interesting and keeps me on my toes!

What unique quality is there about you, about your art, that you feel represents your authenticity?

The unique quality that represents my authenticity is my ability to weave together the tapestry of my life experiences both the highs and lows into my stories. As a Christian, my faith has guided me through a life full of ups and downs. I’ve had the adventure of traveling all over the United States as the wife of a United States Marine, and I’m a proud mother of two grown children. My stories are like a patchwork quilt, stitched together with pieces of my own journey. They are heartfelt, genuine, and infused with the wisdom and humor that come from a life well-lived.

How does writing help you to be more empowered in your purpose?

Writing empowers me in my purpose of sharing the ministry of reconciliation with others. I believe that through my stories, I can reach people around the nation and the world, touching lives that I would otherwise never have access to. My books become a vessel for this message, allowing me to spread hope, healing, and unity far beyond my immediate circle. I trust that my words will continue to bless and inspire others long after I am gone leaving a legacy of reconciliation and faith
