Nausea and Vomiting During Pregnancy Dealing with Morning Sickness

Nausea and vomiting can be one of the first signs you are pregnant. Between 50 and 90 percent of women have some degree of nausea, with or without vomiting and with varying degrees of severity. Even though we call it morning sickness, it can occur any time during the day or night. There are theories about why nausea occurs, but the cause is not completely known. The nausea and vomiting should usually improve around 12 to 14 weeks into pregnancy, so if your symptoms are persisting or worsening, you should tell your provider so they can determine if further evaluation is necessary.

What can I do? While mild nausea and vomiting is not dangerous to baby, it can be incredibly uncomfortable and inconvenient. There are several treatment options that might quell your symptoms. You may need to try several types of treatments over a period of weeks before finding what works best for you. • Eat small frequent meals to avoid feeling hungry. • Avoid lying down after eating.

November 2015 | thehoodmagazine.com

• E at bland foods that are high in protein or carbohydrates and low in fat. • Sip on fluids throughout the day. • Try not to swallow excessive saliva. • Go for a walk and get some fresh air. • I ncorporate real ginger into your diet. (ginger ale, grate ginger into hot water, crystalized ginger) • Drink peppermint tea or eat peppermint candies. • A romatherapy - scents such as lemon, mint, or orange may be useful. If changing your diet and trying these tips doesn’t improve your condition, your health care provider can also prescribe medication to help reduce your nausea and vomiting.

Seek help if you have one or more of the following: • S igns of dehydration, including infrequent urination, dark-colored urine or dizziness with standing. • V omiting repeatedly throughout the day, especially if you see blood in the vomit.

pregnancy

• Avoid foods or smells that trigger your nausea.

• Abdominal or pelvic pain or cramping. • I f you are unable to keep down any food or drinks for more than 12 hours. • You lose more than 5 pounds. And while it won’t help you now, if you plan to get pregnant again, make sure to take a multivitamin at the time of conception and in early pregnancy. It may help prevent severe morning sickness, though no one knows why. n

Save a Little Early for

family

Big Returns Later We all know how money can compound when you start saving in your 20s. So, just imagine how quickly savings could add up for your new addition if you got started right away. A milestone like the birth of a child or your child’s first Christmas is a great time to give them the gift of a financial head-start.

11

Set your little one on the right path with these simple ways to save:

of being able to surprise your child with such a significant gift!

Surprise them with savings

Look into a 529 Plan

There’s no immediate gratification for a baby or toddler to have a savings account – and no great family photos unwrapping it. But, think about this: By putting away just $5 a week, you will have nearly $5,500 saved by your child’s 21st birthday (and that doesn’t even take into account the interest you may earn). Bump your savings to $10 a week, and you’re closer to $11,000. Imagine the satisfaction

Similar to IRA and 401(k) plans, a 529 plan gives you a means to save for your child’s education, tax-free, using a broad range of investment strategies. For example, some 529 plans invest aggressively while your child is young but make more conservative allocations as they grow older. And, since the 529 is in your name, you can appoint or change the beneficiary at any time.

Explore all your options If a 529 plan doesn’t seem like the right fit for you, there are other options out there. Some plans pose no restrictions on how the funds may be used, as long as they benefit your child. The key thing is to get started. Just as setting your child up for success is important, it’s equally important to teach your child how to save on their own. Explore your options, and have fun with it. n

Sucking is a natural instinct for a new baby. Some babies may resort to a finger or maybe even a toe. A pacifier can provide something safe for your baby to suck on in order to soothe or help him fall asleep. There is a period where the pros certainly outweigh the cons for using such a tool. Unfortunately, there also comes a time when they can become more harmful than beneficial. Long-term use of a pacifier can lead to future dental issues. It is a good idea to attempt to stop use between six months to one year of age. Regular pacifier use after two years of age may cause problems with your child’s teeth. These problems are

much more likely if your child uses a pacifier after he is four years of age.

Another big step for your baby is making the transition from a bottle to a cup. It can be a daunting time. Most pediatricians say it is important to bid farewell to the bottle anywhere from 12-18 months of age. A sippy cup is a great way to teach your child to drink from a cup and keeps spills to a minimum. Introduce the sippy cup around six months – even it is empty. It may take time to wean, but starting early is hopefully a sure way to success. Once the transition is complete, it may be tempting to let your child sip on the cup throughout the day. If you do, water is the only thing that should be in the cup. Milk should be kept only for mealtime. Sipping on milk or juice throughout the day will lead to tooth decay.

child

Some products, like pacifiers, are wonderful to help soothe an upset baby. A sippy cup is a good tool to help a child learn how to transition from a bottle. Along with the benefits of these products, there can also be negative effects if they are used improperly. The fun milestones come with other developmental steps that may need a parent’s help for proper progress.

Creative Expression Imagination is a powerful childhood tool. Freedom of creative expression encourages children to take risks and explore the endless possibilities of their imagination. Here are some ways to support children’s creative expression: •A rt Rich Environment - Creating spaces for

• Limit Directions - A child’s creative expression

art, music, dance, and dramatic play are important to children’s social and emotional development. Having an outlet to express ones emotions is a healthy way to develop self-regulation and self-awareness. An art rich environment should have spaces to share ideas, explore questions, and express feelings.

is as unique as they are. Putting more emphasis on the process of creativity versus the product helps children develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. Exploring their own unique and diverse ways of creative expression builds self-confidence. One way to put more emphasis on the process is to ask children what they can do with a material and then uncover the possibilities based off their interests and ideas.

• Adequate Time - A deeper understanding of self comes with adequate time to explore different methods of creative expression. As children take time to explore different ways of expressing themselves, they not only become more self-aware, they also learn how others around them express themselves. Developing an understanding that everyone has ideas that should be listened to and valued is an important skill in relationship building.

•O pen-ended Materials - Children use their natural curiosity to learn ways of sharing thoughts, ideas and feelings. An open-ended material is one that can be transformed and explored in a variety of ways. The material exploration should be childdriven requiring them to use their own creativity. The open-endedness of a material inspires one to explore all its affordances and helps us discover what our imaginations are capable off.

November 2015 | thehoodmagazine.com

• Value of a Question - Asking children about the process they are going through encourages them to reflect deeper about how they are expressing themselves. Use questions that encourage children to share beyond what they are expressing as well as how they are expressing it. As this self-awareness is strengthened, so is their ability to use creative expression in unique and positive ways. The ability to express oneself is a vital part of child development. It builds self-confidence and critical thinking skills. Healthy creative expression leads to a better understanding of one’s self and their ability to relate to and empathize in their interactions with others. n

Giving the

Gift of Health Women are the primary caregivers for their families, their spouses, their children, their in-laws, and often, their own parents, but what they sometimes fail to do is take care of their own health. Kelly Sue Campbell, a wife and mother of 3, identifies with the struggle of putting everyone’s needs before her own. It wasn’t until she saw her waistline expanding and self-esteem lowering that she realized she too was putting others before herself. That’s when her husband, Ryan, gave her the gift of health; he bought her a personal training package. Barely able to hold her head up due to low selfesteem, Kelly Sue met with Amy Prins, Director of Healthy Living at the Y, and together they created a plan to get Kelly Sue back to where she wanted to be. Amy laid out weekly goals that helped Kelly Sue feel more at ease and not so overwhelmed by the challenge that was ahead of her. Kelly Sue began to make tiny lifestyle changes that eventually became healthy habits that are now a way of life for her and her family.

30 |

November 2015 | thehoodmagazine.com

Amy and Kelly Sue worked side by side; Amy instructing and cheering, while Kelly Sue worked hard to learn the exercises and routines that helped get her to her goal. Though she wanted to quit many times throughout her journey, she says “showing up was 90% of the battle.” With Amy by her side, holding her accountable, she saw the first couple pounds drop with more pounds dropping each week until finally, standing in the mirror before her, was the woman she once knew. Now, Kelly Sue is back to having more energy, wearing the clothes she once wore before having children and overall, back to feeling confident and happy with herself. With each inch that was lost, each pound that had dropped, Kelly Sue felt herself reconnecting with her children, her husband and most importantly, herself. She never felt unwelcomed or judged during her workouts. She felt encouraged and at ease. Today and each day going forward, Kelly Sue has her life back. n

GIVE THE GIFT OF A

Disney Vacation with

Why in the world should you take your family on a Disney vacation? It’s expensive, it’s crowded, there are long lines, and it’s exhausting. But it’s also considered the most magical place on earth, and it’ll be the most memorable vacation for the young, and the young at heart.

Don’t WAIT Contact MICHELLE KINDVALL anytime for your FREE quote or with any questions. I’d love to make a Disney vacation a possibility for your family ~ you won’t regret it.

My first trip to Disney was when I was a little girl, and each and every time I go back there is something new to experience. It’s simply amazing! The absolute best part is seeing it through your children’s eyes. The look on their precious little faces when they see and interact with their favorite princess or Disney Character is indescribable.

Call 605-201-5445 or email: michelle.kindvall@ mousetalestravel.com

Mouse tales Travel

My passion for all things Disney is why I now work with them. I work for a South Carolina-based company called Mouse Tales Travel. It’s a travel agency specializing in all things Disney - DisneyWorld, Disneyland, Disney Cruises, Aulani (our Hawaii property), and Adventures By Disney.

Working with me is FREE and includes the following personalized concierge level services. Because there are infinite ways Magic to customize your Disney vacation, I aid in choosing the right resort to stay in (I have been to all 26 of them), ticket purchasing, dining and fastpass guidance and reservations, customized daily itinerary, special event planning, and more. We also offer many details that the general public would not know. Best of all, my prices are the same that you would find direct at Disney, but I do all the work FOR you! I also monitor Disney’s promotions daily and if a promotion appears that will lower your vacation price, I will update your reservation, no problem. I am here for you before, during and after your vacation.

Kingdom

Disney World is actually 40 square miles and made up of four theme parks, two waterparks, 26 resorts, a sports complex, and a host of

shopping and other attractions. Here is a glimpse of what you can expect on your vacation at the parks.

It’s like stepping right into a dream. The four Walt Disney World Theme Parks make the real world seem far away, and make-believe as real as the smile on your face. Experience storybook wonder as favorite Disney classics come to life at Magic Kingdom Park. Discover big fun and cultures from around the globe at Epcot. Create your own adventure and explore the realm of creatures who inhabit our world...and our imagination...at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. Gifting Kids Healthy Habits

Childhood obesity is cited as the #1 health concern among parents, according to the American Heart Association.Today’s kids are already experiencing many health problems that previously weren’t seen until adulthood, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and high cholesterol. Busy Sioux Falls mom Abby Vostad is one of those worried parents, so she’s worked hard to help her kids, Trenton, age 4, and Zary, age 2, develop healthy habits now that will bring lifelong benefits. “For the first time ever, our kids will have a shorter life expectancy than we will, because obesity and unhealthy habits are such a huge trend,” she said. “Parents are letting their kids live off French fries and hot dogs instead of making little healthy habits for their kids.” Vostad has managed to incorporate healthy changes into her family’s habits without causing too many costs or major disruptions in her busy schedule. She said that one trick that has worked for her family is that her children are more interested in healthy foods when they see where it comes from. “We have a share in a local farm, so my kids know the farmers and they see these people who are bringing us our boxes of fresh veggies and melons and stuff every week,” she said. “But then we also go to the apple orchard and seeing where the food comes from versus buying it in a package in the store.”

November 2015 | thehoodmagazine.com

Mary Beth Russell, a registered dietician and licensed nutritionist for the Avera Heart Hospital agrees with Vostad’s strategy to get her kids involved in planning and cooking family meals, too. She also says that parents are one of the biggest influencers on how their children choose foods later in life. “As a parent you have to be a good role model,” Russell says. “You don’t have to be perfect all the time, but if kids see you trying to make wise choices, they’ll notice. You’ll send a message that good health is important to your family.” In addition, Russell recommends keeping things positive. “Kids don’t like to hear what they can’t have, so focus on what they can have instead,” she says. “Give them a few healthy options and let them choose. And then praise them for making those good decisions.”

Getting a Head Start on the Holidays

41

by Morgan Kontz, CommonGround It’s almost time for the holidays, and once we get past harvest it will feel so, so easy for me! That’s because for the last few years I have started a new tradition in our home, and that is Christmas shopping all year long. I begin in January, and I just start checking people off of my Christmas list. I am pretty good about listening to the various things my family mentions all year long, and it’s safe to say I know them pretty well by now! So it’s actually really fun to shop for them. This year is my first year being done Christmas shopping, except for a few gift cards, before October. I cannot even begin to tell you the relief that hit my shoulders when I wrapped that last Christmas gift. Yes, a few weeks ago I ran out of room in my present storage cabinet so I decided to break out the wrapping paper and start wrapping. A bit crazy to some, but the relief that I feel is an amazing feeling. Now, if I want to fight the crowds this Christmas it can be for a few little trinkets here and there or just because I want to, not because of the pressure to find the perfect gift in a short amount of time. If you’re like me, and Christmas shopping has always stressed you out, it’s really easy to start this tradition. Just start buying the day after Christmas! Also, be sure to keep a list with you. I have mine in my notes section on my phone. Without the pressures of shopping we really get to focus on the important things during the holidays, like being together as a family and sharing meals together. In November, we do a ‘Tree of

Blessings’ in our hallway for our daughter to tell us what she is thankful for. She has always really enjoyed it, especially now that she can “help” write on the leaves. Just like many others, our holidays are always focused on lots and lots of food! Since my husband and I are both farmers, the conversation always tends to turn to how we raise food. I get asked about what we do on our farm throughout the year, and things like whether or not we use pesticides or GMO’s. If you also have similar questions, feel free to reach out to me or visit www.findourcommonground.com. I believe it’s important to be transparent about what we do on our farm, and I love connecting with others and answering questions like this. When it comes to celebrating with our extended family, food is nearly always at the center of our holidays. I come from a split family, so we always have lots and lots of places to go. The best part? You can always find some of my favorite dishes at everyone’s house. My grandmother makes pie recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation, and I have to remind myself to only have a few bites of each because I really have to save my sweet tooth for the chocolate gravy. Served over fresh, warm biscuits, this recipe is one of my family’s favorites. And the leftovers are always fought over! I have never been anywhere that has served chocolate gravy, and I may

be biased, but I say my Grandma’s is and always will be the best! In this issue, I’m sharing some of family’s favorite holiday recipes with you and more. I hope you and enjoy and happy holiday season!

After the Holidays

Recycling The holidays can be a time of great joy and happiness. However, they can also be a time where we send more waste to the landfill. Between wrapping paper, food containers and holiday decorations, it can be difficult to determine what goes where when it’s time for clean-up. Follow our guide below to learn how to properly recycle once the holidays are over.

44 |

November 2015 | thehoodmagazine.com

Below are some items we commonly see after the Holidays that DO NOT belong in the single-stream recycling bin. • Fake trees, wreaths and garland • String lights and electronics (if you’re a resident in Lake, Lincoln, McCook, and Minnehaha Counties, you can recycle them for free at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility) • Bows • Foil, plastic or glitter gift-wrapping paper (Natural fiber paper type is okay-avoid excess tape) • Toys (replaced by new toys) • Styrofoam (from gifts that are shipped or food/drink holders) • Food waste (Including too much food left in aluminum trays or food containers)

• Metal pots and pans (donate if possible!) • Disposable dishware (plates, cutlery) There are lots of items that CAN be recycled after the holidays such as food containers, plastic bottles, tubs, and containers, aluminum foil and trays, corrugated boxes, and much more! Visit siouxfalls.org/green for a complete list. Do you need to make room for all of your new holiday gifts? Take your materials to the landfill! Many of the materials will be recycled. Route One includes locations for single stream recycling, TV/electronics, rubble, scrap metal, propane tanks, batteries, appliances/white goods, cardboard, household waste, humidifiers, air conditioning units, refrigerators, mattresses/box springs ($9 each), and tires.

family

It’s important for everyone to do their part and recycle! Now with single stream recycling in Sioux Falls, it’s easier than ever. However, what you put in your recycling bin is important too. Knowing what can and can’t go in the recycling bin reduces the contamination of other recyclable materials.

45

The Landfill also offers two Christmas Tree drop off sites from December 26-January 17th. One is located west of the Household Hazardous Waste Facility and the other is located at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. Call the landfill at 605-367-8162 for more information. The Household Hazardous Waste Facility is a drive through drop-off location that allows residents to properly dispose of unwanted hazardous and electronics materials for free. If you received a new electronic over the holidays, drop off the one you are replacing to make sure it is recycled properly. n

Give Your Kids the Gift of Your Time

47

More toys, more clothes, more books, more games, more stuff! Is that what the holiday season is really about? Here are some alternative gifts that give the gift of “quality time” to your child instead of things.Try these ‘Fun Gift Tickets’ redeemable anytime, or make it into a ‘Gift of Time Checklist,’ cut the clutter and make memories with YOU instead. 1. Popcorn, Pop, and Puzzles Night- They may not need more puzzles but how about a fun night working on one as a family. Bring the popcorn, and Pop and make it P3.

Reading a book alone is not near as much fun as going on an adventure together.

2. Build a Blanket Fort- Get out the blankets, ropes, clothes pins, pillows, stuffed animals, Christmas lights, flash lights, books to read and snacks. Then create an awesome blanket fort space together, then spend time in it too!

7. Cooking Class Pass- Compile some recipes for your child to help you make. Give them an apron and roll up their sleeves and bake, cook, stir, chop, measure, and decorate together. Omelets or blueberry pancakes are a great and fun first fancy dish for kids to learn how to make solo.

3. Go Bowling- Just your family, or you and your child. It may be of those things you always think would be fun, but you never find the time to do together.

8. Teach a Trade- What do you do? Fix cars? Sew quilts? Write code? Teach your child how to build, sew, or make an app.

4. Have a Construction Night- When is the last time you sat down and built with those blocks, or Legos® as a whole family. They might not need more building/ construction toys, but would LOVE it if you built something EPIC with them. Add in books for roofs, and dolls, and action figures add another level of play. 5. Board Game Night- Are your board game boxes dusty? You may have gotten them great games, but it is hard during the busy times to find the time to play them together. Make a coupon that’s good for just that!

Gift of Time Ground Rules for Parents: • No smart phones • No email • No computer or video games • No television • No working • No worrying • No fighting • F amily time only—no independent activities or outside plans • No cleaning

6. Book Bonanza- How many picture books do you have? Have you ever tried to read them all in one night? Or 50 of them? Or maybe 25? How many can you read in one day? Borrow a whole pile from the Library!

These ideas only work if they involve YOU! Giving the kids the toys, the passes, or the puzzles is not the gift that they will be excited about, it only works when you add the most important gift. The gift of your time. n November 2015 | thehoodmagazine.com

Educational Gifts for Kids

Before you head out to buy a lot of Christmas toys this year, ask yourself — what happened to the toys from last year? Forgotten? Bottom of the toy box? Never taken out of the box? Interesting for only two days? These are common mom observations, and it can be a challenge to find meaningful Christmas gifts. No surprise, I look for gifts that are fun and encourage learning, so here is my list of the top 10 educational gifts for kids this year:

1 2

3 48 |

Building Blocks — For the younger set, there is no better toy for developing imagination and fine motor skills than wooden blocks in various shapes.

Books — Remember your favorite book when you were a child? Give them the book with a personal touch by signing the inside cover with a message that tells the child why it was special to you. Brain Builders — Find challenging workbooks and kits to keep brains busy during the holiday break and make tough subjects fun for months after the holiday.

November 2015 | thehoodmagazine.com

4

5

Brain Games — Blokus, for ages 5 to adult, is a great strategy game. Word Winder, for ages 8 to adult, is a combination of Scrabble and Strategy created by puzzle guru David Hoyt. Rush Hour is a classic stocking stuffer for kids ages 8 and up. Tapple is a word skill builder for ages 6 to adult and moves quickly for kids who lose patience with slow board games.

Marbles — The store, that is. I love everything they sell in that store! It has brain teasers for kids ages 3-100. Check them out online at at www.marblesthebrainstore.com.

6 7 8 9

Educational Video & App Games — Leap Frog and VTech both do a great job of matching fun, curriculumand age-appropriate form factors for great learning toys.

Building Sets for the Older Set — LEGO® building bricks, the Goldie Blox Spinning Machine and a classic bird feeder construction set all give kids the satisfaction of creating their own piece of art.

Sketch Pad and a Set of Pastels — Even the non-artist child will be delighted and inspired to create a masterpiece.

Gifts of Experience — Tickets to a museum or a play are both great examples of gifts of experience.

10

Academic Confidence — Gift cards for academic programs to ensure kids are excelling in school and confident in their ability to learn are gifts that pay the greatest dividends.

There are a lot of lists of top 10 educational gifts for kids, but make sure you avoid toys where “no child is required.” If the gift is all electronic and has no interaction, the average child will tire of the toy within two days. And remember, with all of the games, toys and experiences, the best gift is one that allows you to spend time with your child. If you had to pick the No. 1 educational gift for kids, what would it be? n

It’s Shopping Season…

for Health Insurance Shopping for health insurance isn’t as fun as holiday shopping, but it’s something you have to knock off your yearly to-do list. The Health Insurance Marketplace provides a convenient, easy-to-navigate online place to purchase private health insurance. All plans available in your state along with pricing are right there for comparison, making this an easy shopping experience.

• Many preventive services are provided at no cost, such as one yearly well care visit and immunizations.

The Marketplace is for anyone who is not covered by an employer plan, Medicare, Medicaid or other plan. It’s also for people who looking to make a change in health coverage.

There are still things to consider, such as what kind of plan is best for you, how much you can afford and whether you are eligible for tax credits or subsidies.

But unless you have special circumstances come up, there’s only one time of year you can shop on the Marketplace, and that’s during open enrollment, Nov. 1 through Jan. 31.

The Affordable Care Act mandates a number of things: • Plans must offer 10 essential health benefits ranging from emergency care to prescription coverage and prenatal and postnatal care.

50 |

November 2015 | thehoodmagazine.com

• Coverage is guaranteed, so if you have a chronic condition, you won’t be turned away or pay higher rates.

Penalties Add Up Those who opt not to get insurance are subject to a fine, which increases yearly. The fine in 2016 will be whichever is higher — 2.5 percent of yearly household income or $695 per person ($347.50 for children under 18). “The penalties are getting a little stiff for not having health insurance,” said Janice Lewis, sales associate with Avera Health Plans. “There are obvious benefits to having health

insurance like physicals and screenings. I always ask, do you really want to pay for nothing or do you want to pay for something?” Consider Cost If you are currently insured, get an idea of where you stand now. Look at your Summary of Benefits and Coverage to see what you’re currently paying. Also consider current income to create a clearer picture of what you can afford. “It’s like buying a car,” said Debra Muller, Chief AdminThose who opt not istrative Officer for Avera to get insurance are Health Plans. “When subject to a fine, which you’re buying a car, increases yearly. The fine you put together a in 2016 will be whichever plan. Do you want a is higher – 2.5 percent of Toyota or a Ford; an yearly household income SUV or a sedan? Then or $695 per person. you go online and do research and look at your options.” Are Subsidies an Option? To receive subsidies or tax credits, you must apply directly through healthcare.gov. Your ability to receive subsidies and tax credits relies on your income, but can reduce the costs of premiums and even co-pays, deductibles and coinsurance, which can add up, Lewis said. Are You a Frequent Visitor? You also should consider ongoing health conditions and additional costs you’ll have throughout the year in prescriptions and other out-of-pocket costs. “Every situation is different,” said Lewis. “Do you have a lot of doctor’s visits every year? Then you need a plan with a low co-pay and out-of-pocket maximum. If you’re healthy, you can get a lot of the preventive stuff for no additional cost. Lower premiums and a higher deductible might work because you’re not going to use your insurance as often.” Don’t Miss Out And remember, after open enrollment, your chance to enroll has passed unless you have a qualifying life event like marriage, the birth of a child or a job change. And you never know what will happen during that time. n

The holiday season is here! Before you venture out to do your shopping, take a look at the regular prices of all items you plan to purchase. There are many different sales prior to Christmas Day and while you will be able to find some fabulous deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, those days are not always the best days to buy everything you may be searching for. Always use your best judgement when deciding on when and where to buy.The following tips will hopefully provide you with some additional help with both in-store and online shopping. In Store Shopping: •S tart early - Watch for sales throughout the year! One great option is to plan to buy one gift for someone each month or put a little extra money into a ‘Christmas Budget’ each month throughout the year to prevent you from overspending in December. •Q uality in local gift buying - Rather than buying a loved one several gifts that he may or may not like, focus on higher quality gifts. There are many local stores where you can find unique, quality products that will last. You can get by with one or two high quality gifts. Not only will the gift be better appreciated, but it could end up saving you money by preventing you from buying too many gifts. •A sk for discounts - Don’t be afraid to ask! Occasionally there will be coupons or other discounts available if you just ask the cashier. •P rint retail coupons - Do a search online to find out if there are any available printable coupons to
