LETTER FROM THE EDITOR A Letter from the Editor
I
t’s that time of year again! Time for horse hair flying around and getting stuck to everything including your lips. I hate it but I love it! It means before long my mount will be as shiny as a copper penny. I’ve already cleaned out the tack room and organized the trailer. I’m ready to spend more and more hours outside while still being able to feel my toes. Thank God spring is finally here! I hope you have had a chance to spend some time with your horses already this year, but if not....what are you waiting on? They would probably love some attention and some help removing all of that winter hair! Mine were blanketed and still lean into the curry comb while I’m creating the whirlwind of hair. This is my all time favorite time of year. There are so many things to be excited about. There are new beginnings all around...from the new foals making their appearnace into the world to the three year olds who are ready to move on to the barrel pattern. I love the buds on the trees and the birds are back to singing their morning songs when I get out of bed. The grass is turning green and the arena is dry enough to work up the ground. I find myself in a much better mood this time of year and I am sure it is the weather and the hope that spring brings for a new race and show season. How about you? Does spring make you joyful and thankful like it does me? Drop us a note and tell us your favorite thing about this time of year.

Until next month.......take amoment and really listen to the birds singing...... and don’t forget to count your blessings on horseback! God Bless and Ride Safe, Christa Conway

Thrush Turnburnsis Posts: 275 Location: Oklahoma What is your best treatment of thrush? I have one that is between mild and severe is somewhat lame from it i know to keep clean and dry as much as possible. I am treating it but wondering how everyone else deals with this Thanks cheryl makofka You may have to take to the vet and have it burned out, as thrush is very hard to kill if it gets under the frog. classicpotatochip I’ve had really good luck in the past with the thrushpak from vettec. You can apply them yourself. I wouldn’t let anyone burn my horses frogs out. Jmo. Bibliafarm I take a syringe and put betadine and water and stick it in area or hole where thrush is at up to 5 times a day..I have also used some bacteria cream and rubbed in it....I also use thrushbuster. Some people add small amount of bleach but i know it can burn out live tissue.. Ive only had one hind foot where it affected thankfully..
Page 4
classicpotatochip Ohhh forgot about the thrushbuster. Yes, it’s fantastic too! trobertson I ended up with a bad case of Thrush last spring. I stalled my mare for what seemed like a month. Her case of Thrush did get under the frog. I used Thrushbuster religiously, and then did a round of Uniprim. I saw drastic improvements from the Uniprim. I also put water babies on her ankle to keep down the inflammation and dry skin down. Sounds crazy I know, but the sunscreen worked like a charm. AFter it was healed her entire frog just started peeling off from the new growth. I hope yours it not that bad TBone No Thursh - great product! Longneck I had a bad case a year ago and I would clean the area out with hydrogen peroxide and then put the ToMorrow paste covered with cotton balls. I would also clean his hooves by doing a soak in Epsom salts and then applying the ToMorrow paste. I used Koppertox for about two weeks before I started the ToMorrow paste, but didn’t see very much improvement.
HorsesNHarleys Talked to a vet about this yesterday. they highly recommended sticking cotton balls in after the medication. Otherwise as soon as they go out to pasture they fill back up with mud and the medicine is gone. I will squirt iodine in then place a cotton ball over the crack, squirt more iodine till the ball is saturated and use my hoof pick to stuff it as deep as I can. Turnburnsis Thank you guys! I going to try pete ramey metod and white lightning. Hopfully one of these will work if not both! Will let you know. Hate seeing him so sore cowpooh02 White Lightning has worked great for us. I do use hoof picks and push cotton balls in there and put the medicine on that. cow pie Providone/ iodine .trim the frog back let it soak back to the hair line and brush into the crevice around the frog. CocoChex I haven’t had one with severe thrush, but if I have one with thrush starting to form, I rotate Thrushbuster with Absorbine’s thrush treatment.
FlyingHigh1454 My gelding had thrush so bad it was awful, 5 days of thrush buster and it was completely gone. Awesome stuff! twinkles I have a horse that I have battled severe thrush on until I added a mineral mix that balances copper and zinc, among others. That did the trick and no more battles. If horses are deficient in copper/zinc they will have problems combatting thrush. sah What mineral mix do you use? I have a gelding that I constantly treat. I have used all the products mentioned. The best so far is Pete’s goo with powder no thrush on top then cotton balls. Nothing has worked long term. Fairweather Hearty Hoof is the best stuff I’ve used.

BARREL RACING
Hey Everyone, This month we are recognizing our 4th Division National Champions, Billy Frey and Menubo Dry Doc. I remember the first year that I met Billy. It was back when our Nationals was held at Roberts Arena in Wilmington, OH. I was standing at the second barrel when they called in Billy from Pennsylvania a few seconds late we heard at “HOOOOOOOOOT!” ring out across the arena. We all turned to make sure everything was alright and realized that the jockey was just having a heck of a time. By the time Billy reached the third barrel the whole crowd had joined in. Each year since it seems everyone gets ramped up before, during and after Billy runs out. Last year someone said “you need to get that guy on pay roll”
one was having fun. “I own my horse Menudo Dry Doc aka Dollar. I borrowed him to see if I liked him and he picked me so we’ve been a team ever since. It has taken me 5 years to figure him out. We just go in there and I hoot and holler and have fun. To me that’s what it’s all about.” When asked how he got started in barrel racing he answered “ I couldn’t ride Broncs anymore, the wife said I was too old, so I asked her what else I could do. She said IBRA is for men too. I looked into it, started riding and have been ever since.” Well, Billy, we are so glad that you decided to give barrel racing and IBRA a chance it’s always a pleasure to have you at the shows. God Bless! ~ Shane Cline

News American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame Inductees AQHA March 2015 - The 2015 Hall of Fame Inductees were honored at this year’s AQHA convention in Fort Worth, Texas. Congratulations are in order for the five horses and four people who were inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame at the 2015 American Quarter Horse Association Convention in Fort Worth, Texas. The 2015 American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame inductees were honored at the Hall of Fame Banquet March 6 in Fort Worth. “These distinguished men and horses have helped write the history of the American Quarter Horse, and we’re pleased to welcome them into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame,” said Don Treadway Jr., AQHA executive vice president. “Their achievements have made them worthy to join the illustrious group already enshrined in the Hall of Fame.” The horses are the 1989 mare Corona Chick, the 1959 stallion Coy’s Bonanza, the 1930 stallion Plaudit, the 1979 stallion Smart Little Lena and the 1962 Thoroughbred stallion Azure Te. The four men are Thomas Bradbury of Byers, Colorado; AQHA Past President Jim Helzer of Arlington, Texas; the late Stanley Johnston of Miller, South Dakota; and the late Ted Wells Jr. of Pawhuska, Oklahoma. The Broodmare Corona Chick started fast and only got faster. She began her race career May 17, 1991, placing second; it was one of the few times in her life that she was not first. She set two track records in her life and was the 1991 racing champion 2-year-old filly and 1992 racing champion 3-year-old filly. The bay mare was by Chicks Beduino and out of Sizzling Lil by Sizzle Te. She was bred by Robert D. Etchandy of Anaheim, California, raced under the Etchandy family name and last was owned by Julianna Hawn Holt of Blanco, Texas. Corona Chick finished her track career with a record of 18 starts, 15 wins and two seconds, finishing off the board only once. She had earnings of $591,326. As a broodmare, Corona Chick became an American Quarter Horse Dam of Distinction. Of her 16 foals, 14 starters earned $3.6 million. Her 1995 filly by First Down Dash, Corona Cash, won the All American Futurity (G1) in 1997 and her sons Corona Cartel, Valiant Hero and Captain Courage are all leading sires of racing American Quarter Horses. The Ranch Horse Plaudit was foaled in 1930 and purchased by Coke Roberds as a 3-month-old. Plaudit passed through a few more owners before landing with Waite Philips at Philmont Ranch at Cimarron, New Mexico. Plaudit was used as a working ranch horse, as well as a breeding stallion, and was occasionally raced on bush tracks for 10 years. The palomino stallion was by the Thoroughbred stallion King Plaudit and out of Colorado Queen by Old Nick. He was bred by Tom Mill of Meeker, Colorado, and was last owned by Leon Harms of Sandia Park, New Mexico. The stallion sired horses that were successful in the show pen and on the track, including Question Mark, who with a broken pastern defeated the nearly unbeatable Shue Fly in a half-mile race. Plaudit became known as a broodmare sire through his daughters and granddaughters. His blood runs today through horses of the Skipper W lines.

The Champion In 1961, Coy’s Bonanza earned seven grand championships and 10 reserve championships at halter. He went to the racetrack in 1962 but shinbucked and was sent home. In 1963, he was shown at halter 53 times to 40 grand champion titles and 13 reserves, making him the 1963 high-point halter stallion. The sorrel stallion by Jaguar and out of Sparky Joann by Littlejoethewrangler was bred by Charlene Coy of Lander, Wyoming, and was owned by Bill Moomey of Vail, Arizona, who sent the stallion back to the racetrack where he earned a AAA rating. Coy’s Bonanza became an AQHA Champion and earned points in reining, western pleasure and western riding. Exhibitors of the era sought out foals by Coy’s Bonanza to show in halter and performance classes. From 16 foal crops, Coy’s Bonanza had 26 foals become AQHA Champions like him. A total of 112 earned 4,633 halter points and 117 earned 4,248 performance points. The Cutter When Smart Little Lena was foaled, his name came from his small size. The sorrel stallion never let his size stop him, though, as he won the 1982 National Cutting Horse Association Futurity and followed up that win with first-place finishes in the NCHA Super Stakes and Derby to claim cutting’s triple crown. Smart Little Lena was by Doc O’Lena and out of the mare Smart Peppy by American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame stallion Peppy San. Smart Little Lena was bred by Hanes R. Chatham of Fort Worth, Texas. After Smart Little Lena’striple crown win, he was syndicated before heading to the breeding shed, where he sired money-earning foals in reining, working cow horse and cutting. Smart Little Lena’s foals earned almost $35 million in NCHA competition. He was inducted into the NCHA Hall of Fame in 2008. The Thoroughbred Azure Te was foaled in 1962 and raced on Thoroughbred tracks until he bowed a tendon and was retired. He then was purchased by Burnett Ranches as an outcross Thoroughbred stallion to complement American Quarter Horse broodmares. His syndication in 1968 is thought to be the first syndication of a stallion for American Quarter Horse racing. The bay stallion was by Nashville and out of Blue One by Count Fleet, and was owned by the Azure Te Syndicate of Fort Worth. From his first American Quarter Horse foal crop, Azure Te placed three finalists in the All American Futurity. From that first crop, only one starter wasn’t a winner. At the time of his death in 1983, he was the all-time leading Thoroughbred sire of Quarter racehorses, a title he claimed for nearly 10 years. The Racer Tom Bradbury of Byers, Colorado, began his Bradbury Land and Cattle Co. ranch in 1958, raising Hereford and Red Angus cattle. In 1987, he purchased Dash For Speed, a track record-setting mare who was world champion in 1990 and earned $1.225 million on the track. Bradbury also owned syndicated shares in Wave Carver, First Down Dash and Teller Cartel. Bradbury has been involved in many national agriculture and livestock groups, including AQHA, the American Red Angus Association, the American Hereford Association and the Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Association, where he has been a member since 1959 and has
News served as president. Bradbury is an AQHA director emeritus. He served in community organizations and is on the Colorado State University alumni board. He also is involved with the National Western Stock Show in Denver. The Executive James E. Helzer of Arlington, Texas, is a 20-year breeder of American Quarter Horses who served as AQHA president in 2009-10. The racing breeder and his wife, Marilyn, bought their first racehorse in 1962. While working in the defense industry, Helzer trained racehorses on the side and eventually became a roofing contractor who built a business that grew to encompass nine states and 33 locations. In 1990, he bought Refrigerator, who won that year’s All American Futurity, became a two-time world champion in racing, retired as the then all-time leading money earner with $2,126,309 and was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 2000. In 1993, Helzer turned his business expertise to breeding American Quarter Horses and established stallion stations in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. After his term as AQHA president, he continued his service on AQHA committees. The Rancher The late Stanley Johnston was a man who liked speed in his ranch horses. When he began breeding American Quarter Horses at his ranch in South Dakota, he introduced a band of Driftwood mares to cross on his stallion, Poco Speedy. Johnston’s breeding program contributed to the legacy of the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame stallion Driftwood, who was known for his speed and rodeo prowess. Johnston crossed Doc’s Jack Frost on one of his Driftwood granddaughters to create Sun Frost, one of the leading sires of barrel racing horses in the United States. In addition to breeding rodeo stars, Johnston’s influence spread throughout South Dakota, where many ranchers in the area still advertise that their breeding program includes Johnston-bred horses. The Breeder The late Ted Wells Jr. inherited a legacy and he knew what to do with it. Wells’ father had owned Hall of Fame stallion Leo, and Wells owned and trained Leo’s earliest offspring. Wells conditioned Lena’s Bar, the dam of Jet Smooth and Easy Jet, and he conditioned Savannah Jr to win the 1965 All American Futurity and be the racing champion 2-year-old colt in 1965 and the racing champion 3-year-old in 1966. At the 1971 All American Futurity, three of the top 10 horses were bred at Wells Ranch in Oklahoma, where Wells stood Savannah Jr and Azure Te. In the 1970s, Wells became involved in AQHA governance, serving on the racing committee and working as president of the Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association, where he was influential in securing pari-mutuel racing in the state. About the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum beautifully showcases the dozens of horses and people who have earned the distinction of becoming part of the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame. To be a part of the Hall of Fame, horses and people must have been outstanding over a period of years in a variety of categories. Inductees are those who have brought exceptional visibility and/or contribution to the American Quarter Horse. Hall of Fame inductees are chosen each year by a selection committee and honored at the annual AQHA Convention. AQHA Recognizes Outstanding Volunteer The American Quarter Horse Association, March 5, 2015 - Pat Hunt of Cannelton, Indiana, received the 2014 Merle Wood Humanitarian Award from the American Quarter Horse Foundation on March 6 at the 2015 American Quarter Horse Association Convention in Fort Worth, Texas. Established in 1997 in honor of the late Merle Wood, this award recognizes an individual who exemplifies an ethic of kindness and benevolence in providing opportunities for young people to be involved with the American Quarter Horse. Hunt became a youth adviser in the Indiana Quarter Horse Association not because her own children were members, but because she truly believed the organization had a lot to offer the youth involved. As the Indiana youth adviser, Hunt served on the AQHA Youth Committee, led a group discussion at the first AQHA Youth Convention in Amarillo, and led a group discussion at the AQHA convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Hunt served as the Indiana Quarter Horse Youth Association adviser from 1984 to 2001; assisted the youth advisers in 1982-83; was instrumental in the development of the Indiana Quarter Horse Youth Association scholarship; organized and chaperoned the Indiana Hoosier Horse Fair youth booth; organized and chaperoned the Indiana State Horse Show youth booth; managed the Indiana youth-sponsored AQHA shows for 17 years; organized and chaperoned the Indiana team at the All American Quarter Horse Congress; was the Region 3 state youth leader in 1991 and 1992; and supervised the youth clinics for 4-H groups that included state and national clinicians, as well as the style show. “During her 17 years as the IQHYA adviser, entries increased for the AQHA Youth World Show in individual competition and in judging team participants,” wrote Sarah Bradley in her nomination of Hunt for the award. “Under her leadership, the Indiana Youth World team won the Division 1 Merle and Ellen Wood Spirit Award in 1995; the team won the state of the year in 1993 through scrapbook competition; and the IQHYA received many awards for increased membership.” Hunt received the Indiana Quarter Horse Service Award in 2008 for her work and dedication to the Indiana Quarter Horse Association. In 1993, she received the American Junior Quarter Horse Association (now AQHYA) state youth leader award. For that dedication and the work she put into leading, encouraging and developing the youth of the Indiana Quarter Horse Youth Association, Hunt was an exemplary representative of what the Merle Wood Humanitarian Award signifies. The deadline for nominations for the 2014 Merle Wood Humanitarian Award is May 1, 2015. For more information, call 806-378-5029 or email foundation@aqha.org. Foal Sudden Sickness and Death Syndrome
The only way a foal becomes septicemic is when bacteria gain entry into the body, and the most common entry routes in young foals is orally (intestinal tract), respiratory tract (pneumonia), or through the umbilicus. Toxins from certain types of bacteria ingested by the foal can damage the gut wall and leak through into the bloodstream where they start attacking all the organs of the body. The foal soon goes into shock as various organs shut down, and unless treated in the very earliest stages of shock, he generally dies. Once the foal goes into shock, it is very difficult to reverse the condition. A foal can also become septicemic before birth in the mare’s uterus if the mare has an infection. In the first day of life, the foal may suddenly develop a septic joint and the most common way to get the infection that quickly was before birth. The way an unborn foal becomes septicemic is through the bloodstream from the placenta. Infection enters the foal’s bloodstream and can travel wherever it wants to go. Those foals are already sick when they are born. They can be very ill and may even act like dummy foals. If you look at them closely after they are born, they may have white blood cells or puss in their eyes. Those foals may have only a 50-50 prognosis for survival. Once bacteria gain entrance into the body, they may start releasing toxins depending on the type of bacteria. The toxins cause a dysfunction in hemodynamics, which means that suddenly the foal has low blood pressure and is going into septic shock. The body is doing several things to try to protect itself. The blood pressure drops, the heart rate increases, and temperature rises to try to fight off the infection. The foal starts breathing heavily to lower the body temperature because of the high fever. The body starts using a lot of energy for this and the foal becomes weak since a young foal does not have energy reserves like an older horse. This weakness causes abnormalities in heart rate and intestinal function. At the same time, there is poor circulation to the gut so it shuts down. This causes the foal to not nurse properly. If he tries to nurse, the stomach just fills up because nothing can move on through, so he quits nursing. Bacterial toxins then affect the liver and, eventually, the other organs of the body. There is multi-organ failure. If septicemia is suspected, a CBC and blood chemistry may help confirm the diagnosis. If there is a low white blood cell count those blood cells are

ny equine hospital is very familiar with the call of “Doc, our foal was fine this morning but he has a fever and is very depressed this afternoon.” The primary cause of this syndrome is “Foal septicemia”. Septicemia is defined as systemic disease associated with the presence and persistence of pathogenic bacteria and their toxins in the bloodstream. This sometimes occurs when a foal develops a bacterial infection and the younger the foal the more dangerous the situation. The infection can be in the intestinal tract, umbilicus, lungs, or any other part of the body. This condition is caused by the spread of bacteria throughout the system hence the infection is no longer localized. “Bacteremia” is the term for bacteria in the blood; septicemia occurs when both the bacteria and their toxins circulate through the body. It is mainly the toxins that do the damage.
being used up as they fight the battle. There may be electrolyte abnormalities and low glucose levels. Blood cultures may be taken before antibiotics are given to determine exactly what kind of bacteria is causing the problems. The foal’s chest, abdomen and umbilicus may be ultrasounded to get an idea where this infection may be coming from and further confirm the diagnosis. Whatever route the bacteria entered, the treatment is similar except if the entry route was the umbilicus. If the umbilicus is infected then it may be surgically removed. In all cases systemic antibiotics are given. With some foals hyperimmune plasma may be given because it is high in antibodies. This might help fight the infection. Antibiotics and supportive care are critical to recovery. We just try to keep the body going and buy time for it to win the battle against the infection. The main thing that is recommend for preventing septicemia is a clean environment. Clean foaling stalls, clean equipment, clean mare and clean handlers are all very important. Make sure the foal nurses very soon after birth but also make sure he doesn’t lick up a lot of contamination as he searches for his mother’s milk. The mare’s colostrum is very important because it has the antibodies he needs to combat common infections. If the mare has been leaking milk beforehand make sure you have a supply of colostrum ready to give to the foal. Your equine veterinarian can also do a blood test to determine whether or not the foal received enough antibodies or whether his passive immunity should be increased by other means such as plasma. Foal septicemia can be a deadly and costly disease. Foals should be checked at least twice daily for the first few months of life so that this condition can be caught in its earlier stages. If you get ahead of the bacteria and toxins in the race for the foal’s life, the foal has a much better chance of winning the battle.

SHhhh...hear that? Its a bird singing! That can only say one thing...”SPRING” is near! Today the sun is shining and the snow has melted, except for the big mountains of the white stuff. The ponies that were clean while the snow was here are now a muddy mess, and don’t smell very good! But soon it will be warm enough for a bath and that will also loosen up the winter hair for de-fuzzing. Right now we do have the option to just brush where the saddle goes, lol. I don’t know about you...but I am anxious to be spending time outside and in the barn.
COWBOY MOUNTED SHOOTING
Our club, 1st Ohio CMSA, would like to take this time to officially “THANK” our Major Sponsors for their support this past year. Sponsors play a huge part in the business of our club. It is very expensive to gather all the materials needed to get the shoots financially organized. Our sponsors allow us to have the dollars needed to have special awards and/or added money for our shoots. We in turn, give the sponsors a chance to hang a banner on the arena fence, advertisement on our web site and they are announced several times throughout the day. Our sponsors are encouraged to come to the shoot so we can introduce them to all in attendance, we have also been known to introduce a sponsor to our shooting program! Our members always give our sponsors as much support as possible, sometimes even sending friends to their businesses.

He manufactures specially loaded blanks used for shooting balloon targets. Dan sells his blanks to clubs for shoots and members for practice, however, he has donated many, many rounds to 1st Ohio for clinics, rifle stages and demos.
CMSA News carries fertilizer and any seed needed for spring planting. Fuel Oil and water are also available for delivery. Ryan can provide a feed seminar for your organization and have a nutritionist answer all your questions. fagalyfeed@aol. com

Clint is a graduate of East Central High School. His parents are Terrie VanVolkenburgh and respectively Joe Trentman. He has grown up in the horse world, both parents have rode almost all their life...Clint's grandfather as some of you may remember was the late Terry VanVolkenburgh, who would run up and down the fences when his daughters would run barrels. Clint began barrel racing at the age of 4 with a pony, then went on to particpate in Jr. Rodeo and his favorite event was the sheep riding, hard to believe he is now a barrel racer. He has won the Ohio Youth NBHA and Indiana Youth and Open NBHA , he has also won the Congress youth barrel four times, and was runner up in the Congress Sweepstakes. He placed at Josey Jr. world numerous times, and won the NBHA Youth World 1D in 2006. He loves to barrel race and is now trying his hand at the futurities. In Clint's spare time he mows grass for a part time job and is also very active in his church where he and his cousins are bible school helpers. Clint also volunteers one day a week at a school in Cincinatti where he spends time tutoring other kids in reading.

It’s Rodeo Time!
e’re ready to rodeo and hope you will be joining us at 2:00 on Sunday April 12th in the Coliseum at the Hoosier Horse Fair. This rodeo will be the first IJRA rodeo after our winter break as well as a Cinch Junior High Division rodeo. Our IJRA and Cinch Junior High Division contestants will be competing for year end points and the hopes to qualify for the IJRA State Finals in August or the Cinch Junior High National Finals to be held in Des Moines, Iowa at the end of June. So mark your calendars and come cheer on Indiana’s cowgirls and cowboys as they come together to compete and show you what they’ve been doing for hours and hours in the barn and practice pen.
Dummy Roping
This is an IJRA K-1-2 Boys and Girls event. Contestants rope the roping dummy in order of the draw and continue to rope until they miss which places them in their position for points. K-1-2 Girls contestant MacKenna Yadon is a Dummy Roper and shared this with us, “I have a rope and I swing it. Then I look at the dummy steer and I try to catch it. I like this event because you get to rope. We practice dummy roping in our garage and in the barn.”
Mutton Busting
This is an IJRA K-1-2 Boys and Girls event. Contestants have to ride a sheep for 6 seconds and are scored by the judges. K-1-2 Boys contestant Cooper Zimmerman had this to say about the Mutton Busting. “I love to do Mutton Busting! The sheep sometimes go fast and sometimes just stand there. You need to make sure to hang on and look between the sheep’s shoulders. When the buzzer sounds, the ride is done. It’s fun and I hope to ride calves someday.”
Chute Dogging
This is an IJRA K-1-2 Boys and Girls, IJRA 3-4-5 Boys and Girls and a 6-7-8 Boys IJRA and Cinch event. This event is kind of like an introduction to Steer Wrestling. While IJRA doesn’t offer Steer Wrestling as an event, it does give kid the opportunity to learn some of the skills of the event as well as give some kids who do not have a horse an event to compete in allowing them to be part of IJRA. This event is has different size stock for the different age groups. This K-1-2 member is using a pair of handy horns on a calf,
Page 46
Photos provided by IJRA or as noted
by the time the 6-7-8 Boys are competing in this event, they are using smaller steers. Contestant has 30 seconds to lay the stock on it’s side with all 4 feet pointing in the same direction.
Goat Tying
This event is open to IJRA K-1-2 Boys and Girls, IJRA 3-4-5 Boys and Girls and IJRA 6-7-8 Girls as well as Cinch Division Boys and Girls K-1-2 Cowgirl Kennedy Hayes is a goat tyer and wanted to share this with you. “Hi my name is Kennedy Hayes. I am 6 years old and in 1st grade at North Salem Elementary. I am in the K-1-2 Division of Indiana Junior Rodeo Association. My favorite event is the goat tie. It’s my favorite because I love riding my pony Destiny and tying the goats. Goat tying means you ride your horse to the other end of the arena, get off, and run to the staked goat. To get a time you have to flank the goat and tie 3 of its legs together. The goat has to stay tied for 6 seconds. The fastest time wins. My dad helps me practice at home. We have goats outside that we practice on and we have a dummy inside too. Last year in kindergarten I qualified for the State Finals. Some day I hope I can be the State Champion!” Greeley Eastep is a 6-7-8 IJRA and Cinch cowgirl. Here is what she had to say about Goat Tying. “My favorite event is goat tying. I use my horse Itchy in this event. To tell you the truth to be good at goat tying, you really have to love it, you have to practice A LOT! There is a lot of ups and downs in goat tying but if you really love it you will stick with it. Why do i like goat tyPhoto credit Puhl’s Photography ing? Easy, because its such a rush to get your hands up, and you get to do it with your best friend! I have found many obstacles in goat tying though, barreling down to the end of the pen and dismounting and a full out run has caused some major problems with my knees and ankles. I have learned that knee and ankle braces plus Roper® Lace up boots are a great option! Finally, my goal for goat tying is some-what of a long term goal but i am slowly getting closer and closer to achieving it. I would like to win a round at either the Cinch National Finals or the Little Britches National Finals in goat tying.”
Breakaway Roping
This event is open to IJRA K-1-2 Boys and Girls, IJRA 3-4-5 Boys and Girls and IJRA 6-7-8 Girls as well as Cinch Division Boys. This event can sometimes be the fastest event of the day. Contestants tie their rope on to their saddle horn with a piece of string. When the contestant ropes their calf the string breaks off and the judges stop the time when they see the white flag tied to the rope break free from the saddle horn. Times can sometimes be as fast a one or two second runs. If the contestant leaves early and breaks the barrier that is runs across the front of the roping box, they receive a 10 second penalty. Ropers
IJRA News can carry two loops, and if they miss with the first one, they are able to quickly pull the second loop out and try to catch their calf before their 60 seconds are up.
toward the calf. The roper dismounts and must touch the calf before the runner can pull the ribbon from the calf’s tail and start running back toward the chute and the chalked off finish line.
Step Down Roping
Barrel Racing
Tie Down Roping
This is a is 6-7-8 Boys IJRA and Cinch Event This event is one of the seven classic events in the sport of rodeo. Our 6-7-8 contestants spend many hours in the practice pen working with their horses as well as roping the dummy. This event takes many years to fine tune and is the end goal of the Step Down Roping.
Breakaway Heading
This is a K-1-2 and 3-4-5 Boys and Girls IJRA event. Drew Thomas is a 3-4-5 Girls IJRA cowgirl who has competed in the Breakaway Heading for two years. This event prepares young ropers interested in Team Roping for the step up when they get into the 6-78 age divisions. It gives kids the opportunity to work with a hazer (heeler) as well as extra time in the box, more experience leaving the box as well as roping. Ropers have two chances to catch a legal team roping head catch and are allotted 60 second to complete this event.
Team Roping – Olivia & Cooper
This is a Boys and Girls 6-7-8 IJRA and Cinch Event. 6-7-8 IJRA and Cinch Junior High Division cowgirl, Oliva White ropes with her parter, Cooper Morris. Oliva is the header and Cooper is the heeler. Here is what Olivia wanted you to know about our Team Roping event. “Team roping is where you have a header and a heeler. The header first tries to catch the head, both horns usually, then they will take the steer across the arena trying to give the heeler a shot. The heeler will then try to catch both feet in an attempt to get a time. Team roping is a fun event and it’s very team oriented, you have to try to communicate with your horse, your heeler/header as well as their horse. I compete in it because it is fun and it gives me a chance to expand my abilities and helps me with my horse. It is an overall fun event.”
Ribbon Roping
This is a Cinch Juinor High Division 6-7-8 event for Boys and Girls. This is an event where one boy and girl compete together. One ropes the calf with a ribbon tied to its tail and the other contestant is called a runner. When the calf is roped by the roper, the runner starts running
This an IJRA K-1-2 Boys and Girls Event, an IJRA 3-4-5 Girls event, and an IJRA and Cinch 6-7-8 Girls Event Kinlyn Yadon is a contestant in the 3-4-5 Girls Barrel Racing and said this when asked to tell us about the barrel racing event. “I have a rope and I swing it. Then I look at the dummy steer and I try to catch it. I like this event because you get to rope. We practice dummy roping in our garage and in the barn.”
YOUTH
This is a 3-4-5 Boys IJRA Event. Clay Yadon is a 3-4-5 IJRA cowboy who competes in the Step Down Roping. Here’s what he had to say about the event “You rope the calf, step off and run down the rope and touch the calf. I really like being able to step off my horse in this event. I practice as much as I can.”
Pole Bending
This an IJRA K-1-2 Boys and Girls Event, an IJRA 3-4-5 Girls event, and an IJRA and Cinch 6-7-8 Girls Event. Sage Thomas who competes in 6-7-8 Girls IJRA and Cinch Junior High Division shared this ”I ride Scooter and it is one of my favorite events because you have to fly through the pattern and keep the poles up. You have to practice trusting your horse. The hardest part is probably the end poles because it’s a whole different thing. My goal is to place in the Top 5 at the Cinch Junior High Division National Finals.
Calf/Bull Riding
Calf Riding is an event for IJRA K-1-2 and 3-4-5 Boys and Girls as well as an event for Boys in IJRA and Cinch Division 6-7-8. Here’s the event the wraps up the rodeo and brings a lot of excitement to the arena. The younger contestants build their skills as they begin riding steers and in a blink of an eye, they have moved up to 6-7-8 and are riding bulls. This event is loved by many and is often one of the most exciting events for spectators to watch. Our rodeo stock contractors do a great job of bringing stock that is appropriate for the contestants and our bull fighters also do a great job of keeping our kids safe. A note from our 2014-2015 IJRA Princess Maci Zimmerman Do you enjoy horses? Rodeo? Then you will definitely enjoy the Indiana Junior Rodeo Assn! You’ll meet new people, make some great friends, and have fun! We are a great “rodeo family” and everyone is nice and helpful! Don’t be shy... come watch and try it out!! You won’t be disappointed!!

Addiction
“Los Angeles Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton suffered a drug relapse involving the use of cocaine and alcohol in the offseason, according to ESPN and media reports. On Friday, a source told ESPN’s Tim Keown that Hamilton’s relapse involved alcohol and a one-time use of cocaine, and when Hamilton realized a drug test, which is administered three times a week, would come out positive, he self-reported his relapse.” What a waste of God-given talent! “Charlie Smith, 18 year Chrysler Transmission Plant worker, has relapsed into his addiction to prescription pain killers according to local news sources. Smith, who had participated in the Employee Assistance Program on two previous occasions, informed his superiors he was unable to perform his job responsibilities and has been suspended indefinitely.” What a waste of God-given opportunity! “Hazel Jones, 37, of Miami County informed her family she was once again binge eating and purging. Doctors recently informed her that a lifetime of eating disorders has severely injured her digestive system and throat. Ms. Jones reported to her family she is no longer able to care for them because her health has deteriorated.” What a waste of a God-given privilege! “In a tearful apology, Joe Thompson, 46, of Logansport, acknowledged to his wife of twenty years that he had fallen back into his addiction to pornography. He informed her he was no longer able to be intimate with her without thinking of what he sees on his laptop and that his taste for pornography has grown deeper and darker in the images which interest him.” What a waste of God-given love! “Sally Smith of Walton, Indiana, has informed her husband she has now depleted all of the family’s savings and exceeded all the limits on their credit cards. Mr. Smith has inquired of his bank a check to pay for groceries was returned for non-sufficient funds and was informed of the negative balance. When confronted by her husband, Mrs. Smith admitted she had become addicted to buying lottery tickets at the local convenience store.” What a waste of God-given resources! “And finally, Chris Johnson, 54, of Peru, admitted to ….” What a waste of God-given “so much…!” And, before you get too comfortable with the failures of others … “You, of wherever and of whatever age, has informed family and friends, of an addiction to … Under-eating or, Over-eating ~Under-activity or Compulsive Working Out ~Vanity or Letting Yourself Go ~ Excessive Fantasies or Frigidity ~Too Much God or Not Enough ~ Critical Spirit or Apathy ~ Pride or Insecurity” What a waste of God-given “so much” too!
Yes, it’s all true; but so what? Is what I have lost as a result of my own addictions, obsessions and/or compulsions any less? How about you? Are failed marriages, illegitimate children or children of broken marriages, bankruptcies, lost jobs less in the “wasted God-given whatever” department? How about distrust, broken promises, hurting hearts and dying souls left in our path? They don’t write headlines about me. They probably don’t make them about you. Lucky for me; maybe, for you, no one cares enough about my failures to put them in the headlines. Doesn’t mean they are not there! It only means no one knows!

CHRISTIAN COWBOY COLLECTION
By Christa Conway
I Am Not Worthy As I write this month I realize that once you are reading my words Easter will have already passed. Even so, it is what is on my heart. With the reminders through Lent, Palm Sunday and leading to Good Friday and Easter I have an overwhelming feeling of unworthiness. Please don’t misunderstand. I am not referring to my self worth or how I look at myself daily, but for some reason this year it just seems more obvious and personal to me what Christ went through so many years ago for me. When I think about how little I do for Him in return and as a sinner how I fail many times daily to live like He would want - that is when I feel unworthy. I feel unworthy that He loved me (loves me) so much that he went through every imaginable awful thing and endured it for me. He didn’t just endure the physical torment (that would have been bad enough), He also endured betrayal of those closest to Him. He witnessed His closest friends denying they even knew Him. He was falsely accused and those who only days before were treating Him like a “rock star” turned and demanded that He be crucified. He was humiliated in front of His mother, taunted, ridiculed and spat upon. And then he was crucified. Don’t take that word lightly. Crucifixion was one of the most painful and disgraceful methods of execution in the ancient world. What is so humbling to me is that through all of the suffering, at any point, He could have decided to stop it all. He could have chosen to go out like a “rock star” on Palm Sunday and disappeared into history. He could have called the angels to remove Him before the first blow from the soldiers. He didn’t.
INSPIRATION
Prophecy was fulfilled through all of the minute details that eventually ended His physical life. It had to happen that way and he knew it. He was the final sacrificial “lamb.” He went though it all knowing that there would be many, many more who would ridicule Him, laugh at Him and deny Him - even after His death. There are many today that curse His name and call it all a myth or crazy talk. He did not and does not exclude them from His sacrificial love and offer of forgiveness. I’ve been asking myself over the last few days, if I were present on that day of His crucifixion, would I have denied Him?
Page 52
Would I have been one of those on the bandwagon one day chanting “Jesus” and the next week yelling “crucify him” with the rest of the crowd? I like to think I would have stood up for Him. But do I really even stand up and defend Him like I should in my life today? Am I doing a “good enough” job? In my day to day life, I try to be a good wife, a good mom and in general a good person...and for the most part I think I do okay (my family may disagree more often than I want to admit.) As a Christian I know I fall so short of the mark. There have been many times I chose to keep to myself rather than defend my Savior. How can I be worthy of His love when I coward away from defending Him? There are days when I wake up and forget to say a prayer until well into my day. How can I be worthy of His love if I forget to talk to Him like I should?
There are days when I feel sorry for myself and get sad or angry at my circumstance. How can I be worthy of His love when I complain as I go through trials that are trivial compared to what He went through for me? The answer is simple. I am not worthy. He loves me anyway. Romans 5:8 But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. I’m so glad He does....aren’t you? Happy Trails & God Bless! Love in Christ, Christa
On the Trail
By Brother Brad Curtis of Mountain Top Cowboy Church
RANCH RULES He’d been working for the Blazing H For many ‘a years Rustling cows, changing brands Selling another spreads steers
The Big Boss just smiled Said you’ve picked a hard row to hoe Keep talking like that Well’ you’ll end up down below
The cowboy mounted up Said I reckon I’ve got lots to learn But one thing I do know To the Blazing H, I will not return
Then one dark lonely night He rode on to the J Bar Cross Out there in the darkness Encountered the owner and Big Boss
You see here, son This is the J Bar Cross My cows can’t be rustled Because I am the only Big Boss
As they got near the ranch He said Boss I’m not sure what to do After all we just met I just started followerin’ you
He tried to cut and run But got dusted by his ol’ bangtail That mare wrinkled his spine Would this be the end of his trail
Come and follow me Ride for my Son and I Keep stealing for the Blazing H And you will surely die
Boss said you’re riding for the brand A better ranch you’ll not find But young cowboy Watch what you feed your mind
Reaching for his barking irons As he jumped to his feet Hollered out, I’m lightning fast You’re going to feel the heat
The cowboy dropped his guns Said I’ll follow you As for the Blazing H I’m done with that devilish crew
Then the Boss just pointed To a sign on the ranch gate It said “Ranch Rules Philippians 4:8”
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

One Last (& most important) thought… Salvation is a gift and a choice......
But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many. Romans 5:15 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Romans 10: 9-10

Jesus died on the cross as the final sacrifice for our sins. He was resurrected on the 3rd day and he defeated death and Satan for us. All we have to do is believe that He beat death, acknowledge it with our words and accept Him as our personal savior. That’s when the rebirth happens and we are changed! He then promises us eternal life with Him in Heaven! You can’t earn your way into Heaven; you have to accept His gift of salvation. So many people think they “aren’t good enough” to get to Heaven… But… Salvation is a GIFT from God and you don’t earn a gift. Gifts are given to you and for the gift to be yours, you have to accept it. All we have to do is accept this wonderful gift. I know I have…won’t you?

ITOBA NEWS - Indiana Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association
ITOBA More than $4 million in stakes races slated for upcoming Thoroughbred season at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino A total of 37 stakes featured during the 120-day race meet SHELBYVILLE, Ind.; – March 2, 2015 – Indiana Grand Racing & Casino has released its 2015 stakes schedule for the upcoming Thoroughbred meet. The schedule includes 37 stakes worth more than $4 million in purses for the 120-day race meet, which begins Tuesday, April 21. Highlighting the 2015 stakes schedule is the 21st running of the Grade II $500,000-added Indiana Derby, which will move away from its traditional fall date to Saturday, July 18. The Indiana Derby is the state’s richest Thoroughbred race and will be complemented by four other stakes on the racing program, including the Grade II $200,000-added Indiana Oaks. The week leading up to Indiana Derby will feature seven stakes Wednesday, July 15 through Friday, July 17.
THOROUGHBRED RACING
“We have been considering a date change for our Indiana Derby the past few years, mainly to avoid inclement weather, and we found the perfect spot in mid-July,” said Kevin Greely, director of racing. “By moving the Indiana Derby to the summer, it will give racing fans the opportunity to enjoy the race during warmer weather and it will also give Indiana Grand the opportunity to create a multi-day festival leading up to the big race. We have added an additional day of racing that week, and will offer more than $1.6 million in purses for 12 stakes over four days.” In addition to Indiana Derby, the top turf stakes of the season, the Listed $200-000-added Centaur Stakes for three-year-olds will be run Wednesday, Sept. 9. The Centaur Stakes will be joined by three other stakes that day, including the $200,000-added Indiana Grand for three-year-old fillies on the turf, also a Listed stakes.

Indiana Grand will feature its first “Indiana Sprint Championship” Wednesday, Sept. 30, highlighted by six Indiana bred or sired stakes, all at a distance of six furlongs. The 120-day race meet will conclude Saturday, Oct. 31 with four stakes races highlighting the inaugural “Indiana Champions Night”, featuring the best state-bred horses of Indiana. “We are really focusing on the quality of our stakes program and have added two new open stakes races to expand our 2015 schedule,” said Jon Schuster, vice president and general manager of racing. “Once again, Wednesday afternoon will be the focus for most of our stakes races. This has proven to be a great spot for a national audience. In addition, it gives us the opportunity to draw entries from some top stables in the region, boosting the quality of our stakes as well as our overnight races.” In all, 27 of the stakes will be run over the one-mile dirt course, with 10 stakes scheduled for the turf course. The first stakes race will be contested Saturday, May 30, which will help create a great atmosphere for the second annual “Jockeys and Jeans,” a fundraiser for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF). The event will feature Ron Turcotte as the honorary chairman as well as the other two living Triple Crown winning jockeys Steve Cauthen and Jean Cruguet. In all, more than a dozen Hall of Fame riders are expected to be in attendance for the event, making it the largest gathering of racing legends ever assembled in the Midwest. Live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing returns to Indiana Grand Tuesday, April 21. The 120-day race meet will be conducted on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 2:05 p.m. with first post for Saturdays set at 6:05 p.m. Thursday racing will be added Sept. 17. About Indiana Grand Racing & Casino: Indiana Grand Racing & Casino holds multiple awards from industry publications for customer service, entertainment, gaming and dining. Located in Shelbyville, Ind., Indiana Grand features 2,200 of the latest slots and electronic table games in addition to a one-mile dirt race course and a seven-eighths mile turf course offering live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing each year. REMINDER from the office of the IHRC: Please remember that Thoroughbred Breed Development Program rules require that any mare which enters the State of Indiana for foaling after November 1 must be registered within ten (10) days of foaling. If this deadline is not met, the mare and foal will be ineligible for registration. You can find registration forms, lists of registered mare/foals and stallions and additional information about the Thoroughbred Breed Development Program at www.in.gov/hrc/tb.htm
2015 Fact Book, State Fact Books Available on The Jockey Club Website The Jockey Club announced today that the 2015 edition of the Fact Book is available in the Resources section of its website at jockeyclub.com. The online Fact Book is a statistical and informational guide to Thoroughbred breeding, racing and auction sales in North America. It also features a directory of state, national and international organizations. Links to the Breeding Statistics report that is released by The Jockey Club each September and the Report of Mares Bred information that is published by The Jockey Club each October can be found in the Breeding section of the Fact Book.
The prevalence of race-related fatal injury for the six-year timeframe from January 1, 2009, through December 31, 2014, was 1.91 per 1,000 starts. The data was based on analysis of 2,180,443 starts. Click here for the six-year summary of statistics from the Equine Injury Database by surface, distance and age. When comparing race distance, shorter races (<6F) saw a slightly higher injury rate versus middle (6F – 8F) and long (>8F) races. This is consistent each year over the six-year span. Similar to prior years, 2-year-olds continued the trend of the lowest rate of catastrophic injuries. However, unlike four of the previous five years, in 2014, 3-year-olds had a higher rate of catastrophic injuries than horses 4 years old and older. The statistics include only injuries that resulted in fatalities within 72 hours from the date of the race. Summary statistics are subject to change due to a number of considerations.
The Jockey Club Releases Year-over-Year and Six-Year Summary from Equine Injury Database
A list of racetracks participating in the Equine Injury Database and detailed statistics from those tracks that voluntarily publish their results can be found at http://jockeyclub.com/default.asp?section=Advocacy&area=11.
The Jockey Club today released fatality year-over-year statistics comparing 2013 and 2014 and a six-year summary of statistics collected from the Equine Injury Database. The incidence of fatal injury for 2014, 1.89 per 1,000 starts, was slightly less than it was in 2013. In 2013, it was 1.90 per 1,000 starts. Dr. Tim Parkin, a veterinarian and epidemiologist from the University of Glasgow, who serves as a consultant on the Equine Injury Database, performed the analysis. “In 2014, the incidence of fatal injury on turf increased 27 percent after showing a 20 percent decrease in the prior year; however, the incidence of fatal injury decreased 3.8 percent on dirt and 1.6 percent on synthetic over 2013,” Parkin said.

The Equine Injury Database, conceived at the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation’s first Welfare and Safety of the Racehorse Summit, was launched by The Jockey Club in July 2008 and seeks to identify the frequency, types and outcome of racing injuries using a standardized format that generates valid statistics, identify markers for horses at increased risk of injury and serves as a data source for research directed at improving safety and preventing injuries. The Jockey Club, founded in 1894 and dedicated to the improvement of Thoroughbred breeding and racing, is the breed registry for North American Thoroughbreds. In fulfillment of its mission, The Jockey Club, directly or through subsidiaries, provides support and leadership on a wide range of important industry initiatives, and it serves the information and technology needs of owners, breeders, media, fans and farms. It is the sole funding source for America’s Best Racing, the broad-based fan development initiative for Thoroughbred racing. You can follow America’s Best Racing at americasbestracing.net. The Eater Bunny is Back I think I’ve mentioned this guy before. He’s getting to be one of my favorite critters. As a matter of fact, I wish he’d come around more often. You see, he leaves candy. That’s right - I said he leaves candy. He must be a wealthy rabbit. He leaves candy in baskets with eggs and little yellow baby chickens that taste like marshmallows. (Yes, I ate the marshmallow chicks - sorry.) Honestly I haven’t got a good look at the rabbit, I’ve just heard the people talking about him. They call him the Eater Bunny. Of course they do! He leaves us food!!! What else would you call such a wonderful creature? The Eater Bunny is very fast (most rabbits are) and it is hard to get a good look at him.
I guess I don’t really care what he looks like as long as he is leaving me treats. I mean, I don’t have to beg or try and act all cute like I do for the UPS man. Truth be told, I think the UPS man uses his treats as more of a “piece” offering for Duke and Freckles to leave him in one piece! (It works!) Back to the bunny....this Eater Bunny also hides eggs in the yard - which I find odd. Where does he get all of these eggs? I could understand if he was a chicken, but rabbits don’t lay eggs, do they? Oh, and these aren’t your run of the mill white or brown eggs. They are blue and pink and green and yellow with stripes and polka dots and stickers and etc, etc, etc. You get the point - crazy Bohemian looking eggs. None like I’ve ever seen come straight from a chicken.
Flashback with Bella
Excerpt from Barks N Bits, 2010
This month I figured I would kind of give a little life lesson from a dog’s perspective.
Maybe the Eater Bunny has a deal with some local chickens who are really artsy and have no market for their wares. I’m not sure I want to think about a bunch of hippie hens (no offense) in their Bohemian dresses in a henhouse somewhere decorating eggs to sell to a rich rabbit. But think of the marketing options... Eater Bunny And Hippie Hens present: Bohemian Eggs and Marshmallow Chicks

Enjoying my treats,
Old Dogs, Puppies and..... What Goes Around Comes Around
As you read last month, my owner’s “got a long little doggie.” (I even thought that was kind of funny!) They’ll tell you they got a cute little dachsund puppy as a new addition to the family. I say that what they got was a little bark box that has baby teeth and too much energy.
Artwork by Vicki Piebenga
“Annie,” as they call this annoying little creature, has really been crimping my style. I had been the only dog in the house (or the truck when on the road) for some time now. And what had become a rather comfortable position for me has now became a constant battle to keep my seniority and authority enforced with the bouncing, yipping “bundle of joy.” (Note sarcasm.) As I was showing my teeth and growling at this new “baby” of the family while she was clamped on to the loose skin on the bottom of my jaw with those razors in her mouth, I had a flashback. I remembered a time when I was the “new addition” to the family and the senior member of the house had to put up with me as the new bouncing bundle of bark. The senior member’s name was Sam and at one time she had to put up with my baby teeth embedded in her jaw skin. (I even heard my owner’s remenising as Annie was making me into a chew toy, about how I used to do the same thing to Sam.) Needless to say, even dog’s can learn life lessons and what I would like to relay to all of those puppies out there is this.....
Page 62
Remember who you are chewing on when you are young and think you know it all....because it won’t be long and there will be a new pup come along to chew on you. Just ask any old dog.
