DJ Exploid draws his inspiration from Homeboyz’s DJ John. He always worked on his deejaying skills while in class 6 using the Virtual DJ software. Besides, his mixes hit the streets while he was in Form One.

DJ Exploid got to establish himself while playing music at events organised by the county government back in his Mwea home. He would wow crowds as the only renowned DJ in the area.
went to the KTN offices to ask for an interview, only to be told by the show’s producer that they wouldn’t mind having him as part of their team as well as that of Baseline’s. From the audience that shows up on Str8up to the songs that play on Baseline DJ Exploid manages it all.
ing, the fellow undertakes photography and directs music videos.
Dancehall is DJ Exploid’s preferred sound so for any gig, he drops a crazy set of that music. The lad admits that he is not good at playing rock music though.
“I’m in a relationship,” he says.
I’m quick to ask his favourite tune. But just when I expected him to say something in the lines of Konshens, to my amusement, he states that Davido’s Skelewu works for him any time. Obstacles are part of what DJ Exploid encounters daily. He points the major ones as getting invited to a gig as well as establishing a name in this competitive career.
He terms the third anniversary of his QTRO Entertainment as the best event he has ever held – owing to the big crowd it attracted. This was in high school (speak of gusto).
What serves as DJ Exploid’s most embarrassing moment is whenever Virtual DJ becomes problematic while he is performing at an event.
I kept wondering what QTRO Entertainment was all about but DJ Exploid was quick to utter that it was just a platform for helping guys organise gigs or events as well as try and market local, music which seems to be fading away owing to teeniez’ fanaticism for EDM, dancehall, rap, rock and pop music. How did he end up being a member of Str8up and Baseline?
The dude is obsessed with rave and music.
”It was out of my own hard work,”he says.
When he is not working, he surfs the net – uploading his mixes or listening to and watching the latest hits.
At first, DJ Exploid elaborates, he wanted to be interviewed on Str8up Live. It didn’t happen. He consistently

If he wasn’t in this field, a possible venture into Information Technology (IT) would have been his preferred choice. Is he single? In a few years time, DJ Exploid notes, we should be seeing him own a video production unit. He yearns to scale to higher heights and become an International and wellacclaimed disc jockey His advice to young, upcoming DJs is that they should be unique and they should focus on their work. Judging by the zest he has, Mugo is set to prosper in his own exceptional way; other ambitious DJs should watch out!

once a month? Let the Naijos reign this shit for as long as they want to. After all, which chick does not like being spoilt? Please stand up if you exist!!! Love or hate them, their music is on point. Wizkid, Davido, Ice Prince, Dbanj, Flavour, Tiwa Savage, Iyanya, Burna Boy, 2Face Idibia and Chidinma are among the big artistes celebrated in Kenya for their hit singles that start up the party and keep peeps on the dance floor. Their crazy dance styles quickly caught up with us.

on. Still, Nigerian productions are worse than our very own Riverwood releases. They have horrible background music and a lack of continuity, but they fly off the shelves faster than bottles of Blue Moon. Y’all know that voodoo is a fast-moving product.
They started creeping in with their movies that kept us glued to the screens all day. Mboches complete their chores as early as 10am in order to watch them. And the ladies in the movies have made weaves the most ratchet thing an African woman puts

a chic with money he has saved for a whole week then some Okechuku comes along and calls her “sweet potato”, walks away with her and spoils her silly with his pocket money for the day. Kenyan dudes now have an excuse. It’s not that they are not as romantic; it’s just that mfuko inaharibu mambo. They say that the chic should appreciate that the guy actually went out of his way to save money to be with her other than fall for the flamboyant lifestyle that this Nigerian is throwing at her. On the real though, which chick wants to be taken out
Fast forward to the artists calling the shots right now. Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun aka Wizkid is a recording artist, song writer, performer and brand ambassador for Pepsi and MTN Nigeria. He rose to prominence in the music industry with his song “Holla at your Boy”. He was recently named the Best International Act at the BET Awards. Under the recording label Konvict Muzik whose founder is Akon, Wizkid has released two albums, ‘Superstar’ and ‘Chosen’, which are doing very well sales-wise. His latest single “Caro” is currently being played on virtually all our radio stations, and the video is also doing rounds on TV. Guys are eagerly waiting for him to come to Kenya.
Ice Prince
Davido
Tiwa Savage
Burna Boy
I give props to this guy too for the quality music videos he releases. People will agree that there is a very good reason they actually watch them to the end. The mamis are bursting! Are you wearing anything and everything kitenge or ankara as you prefer to call it? Well, thanks to the Naija brothers, the kitenge is no longer known as the wife material fabric. Someone checked into a palce in full Nigerian kitenge attire and stole the spotlight. Soon, y’all were everywhere with Kitenge stuff and called it ankara instead so you could sound original. All said and done, Nigerians have taught Kenyan dudes a thing or two on fashion and how to treat ladies even as they continue to be party starters with their music

sion from the princi. to watch a Manchester derby or El Classico. Some place bets but it would be funny hearing a Manchester United fan placing a bet especially at this time when, as one commentator said, “They have become irrelevant in the league”. Arsenal fans are the most noisy this season as they aim for the league title, which has not been in therir cabinet since 2005! Such is the craving for the EPL that very few teens are aware of the teams playing in the KPL besides AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia. Video games have not been left out; guys can spend an entire night playing FIFA 14. Basketball, on the other hand, is quite different from football. This is where a tournament known as Slam Jam comes in. It is one of those hyped events that attracts over 50 high schools and an attendance of almost 30,000 people! It is a game in which teens have discovered they are good at dribbling the ball. Sadly, not many youngsters prefer it as their heights don’t favour them. However, guys aren’t leaving anything to chance as they try their hand out on this addictive physical activity. Shifting focus on rugby, the Blackrock festival is one that showcases Kenya’s finest rugby talent. It also requires

ow would it feel without Changes or Mang’u Open or even Slam Jam...oohh... and of course rugby’s finest, Blackrock? I guess high school life would totally suck. It is at such events that teens get to discover their talents other than academics. Let’s look at sports in another perspective and by this I mean football, basketball and rugby. Talk of these three sports that have a huge fanbase
among teens besides other games like swimming, hockey and volleyball. Any teen would say something little about futa, rugby or B-ball. Think about football -- a man’s favourite game. Some chics love it and even play it! All types of leagues are based here starting with our very own Kenyan Premier League (KPL) and the most popular football show in the world, the English Premier League. Let’s

not forget La Liga as well as the Bundesliga. It is through football that you’ll find relationships breaking up as chicks get pissed off when they want to meet their boyfriends yet all the lads would say is “manze babe leo sitamek kukam. Kuna mechi ya Arsenali nimetegea na ni ya jioni.Labda tumit kesho...sawa..LUV U BIG!!”. Anyway, the love for football is widely seen in school where guys seek permis-
teens (mostly boys and not skinny ones) who are up to task and ready to clash with other athletic guys. Blackrock has been a nurturing ground for top rugby players. It is at such that Kenya’s future rugby stars are identified and given a platform to shine. Rugby is a sport that any teen would love to watch as it involves being entertained by the fast pace, high scores, as well as an electric atmosphere that is created by fans. Rugby stars like Biko Adema or Humphrey Kayange can be an inspiration to peeps who want to try this adrenaline-packed sporting activity. Just look at those players’ superb performances in the field during any major rugby tournament in the world. Not much can be said about swimming, even though many guys do it for recreation in weekends or holidays. Swimming in Kenya might be receiving little support, something that can suggest why we lack young, well-trained participants of the sport. The popular Dunford brothers. The duo has made Kenya proud in several competitions worldwide. They will still need youngsters to replace them though. One sport -- skating -- is gaining popularity especially in the capital city where there are competitions such as Nairobi King of skate or Nairobi Street Master Contest. Grand Prix Karting is another upcoming sport. It targets guys who love motor racing. Nevertheless, there’s need by the government to do much in promoting other kinds of sports like cricket so that young guys can discover and unleash more of their talents.

THE technology
craze
Have you ever wondered how the world would be without technology?
P
icture yourself back in the stone age: no Internet, no cars, no phones and no computers. Would life have been better off? Come to think of it, we would first have to weigh our options. We wouldn’t have to go to school because of informal education. All you’d have to do is sit down and watch the elders -- be an apprentice. There would be no Donald Trump to fire you though. What if we get to twist things around? Let it be today with a touch of the recent past. A funkie with no music system (probably just drum beats). But who knows? An event with no live performances, We would probably be listening to tales of the council of elders and watch some wrestling. How would event organisers get to entice their would-be customers without the Internet? The picture doesn’t even come to mind. The worst part would have to be communication. No wonder they opted for polygamous marriage, Why? Because a playaz life would be miserable. Start a fire to ‘smoke-signal’ Sharon, blow a trumpet for Jane and send a messenger to Daisy all in one day. It would be really hectic if it was too windy as Sharon would never see the smoke. What if Jane was sleeping or busy working in the shamba and doesn’t hear the trumpet? What if the messenger got attacked by an animal? Or worse still, what if the messenger hooked up with Daisy? Unthinkable. Let’s get back to the 21st century. We now have WhatsApp, which has taken over messaging.
18 | The Insyder Magazine - February 2014 | www.theinsyder.com
Do you remember when Facebook was a hit and everyone wanted to be there? I mean, it even became an issue with parents. Some joined it but teens did not like this because they didn’t want their parents to spy their business. Look at today’s modern family -- dad on his iPad, mum on her S4, brother on a laptop, you on your HTC phone, and your small sister playing PS4. No communication. Why? Technology has taken over. Back in the day, families narrated stories, especially those of mischievous deeds in high school. It’s not that I’m saying that technology came with a lot of negativity. Many people have been able to gain fame through social networks through honest and respectable means or through devious ways, I will not mention names like Huddah Monroe, Miley Cyrus, Louie SoDope, Oliver Ike Dwayne and Daisy Lavigne. As much as teens claim that these people have immoral behavior, they still follow their lives. On Facebook, what some people do is post events. But most teens fake check-ins just for fun. In short, to have a feel of the cool kids by lying to be attending the event. The other thing that is practised on FB is guys posting pictures to see how many likes they end up getting. Yes, we are addicted to our phones but we just can’t help it. But if you are focused, you can come up with a productive initiate. Some teens are already photographers and some models have blogs. It all depends on what you want to do with your free time.
FACTS ABOUT
What is love? Where is it? And how does it happen?
T
hese are some of the questions we tend to ask. Some say it’s in the heart, some say it’s in the soul, but I say it’s in the mind for men and in the heart for women. Most dudes tend to love with their minds. It’s the truth. No hard feelings. She is yours the moment you are with her but after the goodbye kiss or hug, she is out of your mind. Out of sight, out of mind -- that’s a rule when it comes to dudes. But it does not apply to all men. Some love with their hearts. and these are the serious boys out there. In most cases, when these guys end up being hurt or dumped, it’s over between love and them. Dudes tend to hide their emotions in such a way that they take up a ‘don’t-care’ attitude. Men, unlike women, have lust, whereas women fall victim of jealousy. A dude can have lust for a friend’s girl but the girl can have jealousy for a friend’s dude especially when the dude is hotter. So much for men. Women love with their hearts.
That’s why they tend to cry for a week. The rate at which a man can forget a lady is higher than that which a lady can forget a dude. This is another reason why I say ladies love with their hearts. They are emotional beings and need to be conditioned just like a baby and a puppy. I know! I know! Other dudes be like, “that’s a waste of time” or “that can’t happen” but yoh, if you want her to stay for a while, love her for that moment then it’s on to the next one because definitely as dudes we need that experience with ladies. No offence though! It’s just the truth. In a relationship, all that matters is communication and understanding. If we start talking about being faithful, it’s difficult for men because when one sees a hot mama around, he will go talk to her her. I know ladies be like, “that’s just unfair”...blah blah blah. Look at it this way: yes, you are dating, yes you have gone out with your girlfriends, and triple yes, there’s this hot dude across the table or anywhere that you have decided to go bum around with your pals.
Don’t tell me that you will shun the dude if he comes to spend some time with you. Just because you are on a diet does not mean that you cannot look at the menu. Case closed. So ladies just don’t love. They love when in love and feel appreciated by their significant other. Their love is so mature considering their adolescence starts as early as 11-12 years as opposed to dudes that begins one or two years later. You cannot dare compare the two at any cost. That’s why the shoe size of a man varies from that of a woman, plus they have other tremendous differences. Men are deemed superior in relationships, but this is a lie. They even came up with an argument that a key that opens many locks is considered a master key and in contrast, a lock that is opened by many keys is considered spoilt. That’s for you to judge. Happy Valentine’s Day, people! Dennis Kuria Siakago Boys

MR. SEED
The biggest achievement Mr. Seed has ever made was releasing “Papa God O”, which became a big hit and rose him to fame.
So you are just sixteen and all of a sudden you are famous; not through any questionable means but through your talent.
W
ho doesn’t want to be famous at that age? I mean, this is like the prime time of your high school days where you want to be in all funkies because there is not much to do but have fun and live memorable moments -- some which you will get to tell your children. Wait! If you get to tell your children about your high school adventures, would they want to be like you or even bring out worse results? That’s for you to judge. What else do you want to do when you are sixteen: be famous, get connections, and be in the know of what is happening around your peers? We started off the conversation with Mr. Seed by asking his real name. He was a bit evasive but he gave in. It kind of reminded me of freedom fighters. SMH! But all in all, don’t get Mr. Seed wrong. He is witty, social and fun to be around. We were relieved after the interview as we could not stop laughing the whole time until our jaws hurt. His government name is Moses Tarrus. Just like Moses in the Bible, he wants to lead teens to the promised land. The question is: will he make it or will they need a Joshua to do it? Read the Bible and you will understand. How did the name Mr. Seed come up? The artiste was in a dance group when he was in class 6 (how amazing is that)? It was called Bone Breakers -- Mr. Seed says they could have given MJ a run for his money. He states that was the dance group’s leader who gave him the name. SEED, an acronym for Setting Elshadai Exaltation Deeper. It’s through this group that Mr. Seed got saved. What were you, dear
reader, doing in class 6? Mr. Seed got some inspiration through his life experiences; hardships gone through while being raised by a single parent. He says he was raised in Huruma. He also gets inspiration from the Bible. For him, singing gospel is just to show appreciation to God and share his talent to the less fortunate and direct them to what is right. Mr. Seed began singing when he was 15 years old. It was quite a challenge as he had to juggle this with his studies, but he endured all this through focus and God’s favour. Can I get an “amen”! The biggest achievement Mr. Seed has ever made was releasing “Papa God O“, which became a big hit and rose him to fame.
He tells The Insyder he would be catering if not singing as his joy is to see happy people having a great meal -- especially one he’s made.
It’s not many teens who are able to be game changers but he was Mr. Seed was.
When it comes to entertainment, the artist is crazy about movies -- drama mostly.
So the song was released when he was a 16-year-old form 2 student. Think about all the crazy things form 2 students are usually into at this time.
As a teen, what would you do if given an opportunity to be famous?
This was when he got a CHAT award even as as his dream was to attend the event. Mr. Seed feels fulfilled when he gets an opportunity to bless people with his songs. He also expresses appreciation towards Miss Tamima, an ex I-Qru who helped him with his career. If it were not for her, he says, he wouldn’t have been where he is. Mr . Seed’s idea of having fun is swimming, watching movies at cinemas, bowling, recording and performing his music at shows.

We also got to ask Mr. Seed what things he was obsessed with when he was in high school. He couldn’t get enough of football. He was able to have a good time with his teammates and at the same time keep fit. Mr. Seed tells us he was rather a “softie” so he was into RnB. He also fell victim to technology and was in love with his phone just like other teens. He felt (and still feels) incomplete without a phone. What about you? Can you really survive without a phone? I know I can’t.
Well, Mr. Seed has a foundation through which he gives back to the community. It’s called Your Smile My Smile and it helps homeless children get stationery for school. He also embraces new talent by helping gospel artistes through signing them to Star Boy Music, his record label under which he has two musicians, Whizz and RBC. Mr. Seed advises teens to choose their friends wisely, do what they love most, never give up plus, most of all, trust and believe in God. What are you obsessed with? WHY ARE YOU OBSESSED
May Desire’s soul rest in peace
WITH YOUR BODY?
I
n my sight, Pastor Bernard was an example of a life in God’s hands. He was learned, good looking and happily married. When I first met him, I was sure I had met someone to shepherd my soul to salvation. A friendship was stroke, that of a father to a daughter or so it was to my innocent and naïve mind. For a while we lost contact and when we reunited in a church function, I was more than happy to have
I
t is said that our bodies are the temples of the holy spirit, but that is not the situation at hand.Teens have turned their bodies into objects of desire for the sake of looking stunning or awesome. Everyone makes his or her body to look appealing to the opposite sex. Talk of tattoos, piercings, booties, muscles and the latest that fad that seems to be overdone. You know it: SELFIES! Let’s have a closer look at the above items. Tattoos come in all forms and teens try to get the best of them on any part of their bodies...mpaka kwa uso, aiiii! The most common ones are on the hands, chest, thighs (mostly for mamas) or the back. At renowned tattoo joints, the holidays are a buzz of activities with guys trying out new tattoo styles -- some doing it out of peer pressure. Whichever way you view it, at least spare some body parts the drilling! Piercings seem to have been drawn from rockstars. They appear in tongues, noses, ears and bellybuttons, for example. Peeps

are taking nothing to chance to have what I would call a “gothic” look. Every chick would love to have the Vera Sidika kind of booty so they look sassy (I’m sure that Sidika also started from the bottom ndo akuwe na haga ka hio). Some may even go to an extent of having surgeries in order to look fit. Ladies, it doesn’t matter whether or not you have something to give back to the society. Just appreciate it ata ka ni ndogo. Don’t try anything stupid. Dudes have been flocking gyms of late in a bid to gain muscles while for some, it’s all about the six pack. I understand that every guy wants to look cool and to impress girls but for some, it may take years to get that muscular body they still eat junk food. Selfies! Selfies! Selfies! Even Obama is doing it. I’m not condemning this but at times check the background you are capturing the selfie. I wonder why many consider the washroom. Please think about doing it in a cool background. Regardless of how much you love selfies, don’t keep posting them on Facebook every minute. We know you look good.
seen him again. His way of appreciating our friendship was just normal. He invited me for lunch in his house and owing to his social status and age difference, I saw nothing awkward. Besides, is there anything wrong with visiting a friendly uncle? He lived in what I would easily confuse for the paradise; he had the taste for the good things in life. His personality was just charming. He served me a drink and that was the last I recall of that day. I got up in a hotel room with his naked body lying on mine. I did need an angel to explain what had happened. I lay there still and dumbfounded. That silly smile on his face made me feel used and useless at the same time. I was just shocked and all I did was... nothing. I calmly asked him to drive me home. Hopefully, that was the last of my nightmares. Life went on and I went back to school -- only to witness a new season of horror unfold. My health failed me and my term was characterised by illnesses. I was
treated for any disease the school nurse thought an innocent teenager would suffer from. I was later sent home for medical checkup and the revelation I had dreaded all along finally unmasked. I was pregnant with a man of God’s baby. Luckily, my parents didn’t find out although this discovery marked the beginning of sorrow for me. I had to do something though I wasn’t exactly sure what. All I knew was Bernard was a no-go zone. I was not ready to become a home wrecker. The more I kept thinking, the faster time flew by and before I realised it, I was six months pregnant, yet I had no sane solution to this situation. I turned to the only thought my friends gave me: abortion! It was scary and risky, but I had nothing to lose since I had already lost my innocence, my dignity and now…my future. I bought pills and before taking them, I prayed and asked God to let me survive only if he forgave me and if he did not he would allow my soul to rest in peace. I was lucky that He chose to forgive me. It was the most painful experience in my life. I killed my child while I was at the tender age of 16. She was a beautiful angel crowned in innocence, I named her Desire. I remember her innocent cry and how much I wished I would push her back to my womb and let her live, but she turned blue cold. I watched her die in my arms. Her image and her cry still haunt me to date. I really hope she understood my dilemma. I refuse to admit I am a murderer. Instead, I hope that someday the end will justify the means. Meanwhile, may Desire’s soul rest in peace. Elvira Juliet (South Tetu Girls School)

Get a Self-Confidence Boost! Self-confidence comes from within...Learn how to think (and say) something nice about yourself
“L
eaders have self-confidence. So do great athletes. And probably the friends you admire the most. “It” is self-confidence, the ability to know and accept your strengths and limitations without depending on the opinions of those around you. If you think you’re alone in envying those with a “Look out world, here I am,” attitude, take heart. We fear lots of stuff: snakes, crime, natural disasters, and being unprepared when our period comes. But it’s been documented that the two greatest fears we have are meeting strangers and standing up to speak in front of a group. And to do this, you need selfconfidence, which is easier said than done. For too many of us it’s easier to run a marathon than say something nice about ourselves. It’s some crazy notion that only stuck up, full of themselves people can find something positive to say. Think of the confident people you know. Isn’t it their self confidence, as much as

their ideas and ability that reassures you they know what they’re doing? For those times the limelight is near and you feel you need a lifeline, try: a) Visualizing yourself as you wish you would be. How would you act if you weren’t shy? What would you say if you felt confident? Picture yourself talking with self-confidence and then follow that behavior. b) Writing down everything you’re anxious about beforehand...I’ll make a fool out of myself, people will think less of me, I’ll fail...then afterward, see if any of your worries came to pass. Chances are you’ll see all your anxiety was a waste of energy and improve your self confidence. c) Chanting these mantras or at least posting them around your room: SUCCESS IS 99% FAILURE. IF YOU THINK YOU CAN, YOU CAN. IF YOU THINK YOU CAN’T, YOU CAN’T, d) Taking a deep breath and asking for a moment to focus. Then do your best to avoid looking around to see who is looking at you. Remembering all the great people who regained faith in themselves after being told they didn’t have what it takes to succeed.
Self Confidence Idols • Einstein was four years old before he could speak. • Isaac Newton did so poorly in school, his teachers considered him “Unpromising.” • Beethoven’s music teacher rated him “hopeless.” • Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team. • Walt Disney was fired for “a lack of imagination.” • Winston Churchill failed sixth grade because he didn’t complete the tests required for promotion.

-year-old Judy Ogake, also known as Sugar, has had a love for music since she was a child singing along to songs her father played. As her vocals developed, so did her interest in music so after completing high school in Loreto girls Kiambu, she began pursuing her dream to becoming a professional singer. Sugar’s growth is based mainly on her ability to adapt to whichever genre is placed before her, therefore giving her the freedom to explore her true voice. While in college, she mostly worked as a background vocalist for Harry Kimani because time could not allow her to pursue a solo career.
After her studies, she decided to find a record label that would accommodate her desire to sing in all genres and rap. Phoenix Recordz agreed to sign her. Sugar made her debut through a collaboration with Bamboo on “2 5 Flow” where she did the hook. Her videos ,“Say Yeah” and “Amazing” highlight the importance of female unity and belief in the strength of a woman. It is worth noting that “Say Yeah” was aired on Channel O. Sugar has a very firm belief in children and helping them achieve their own potential. It is for this reason that she is affiliated with a number of projects that give back to kids.
Secretary General Abbas Gullet asked top artistes to join the organisation in sensitising people on the issues surrounding land clashes around the Tana Delta. Sugar was one of them alongside Marya, Avril, Kenzo, Colonel Mustafa, Ali B and others who went to Malindi to visit communities affected by clashes between the Orma and the Pokomo tribes. Sugar describes her style as ‘people music’ since her main focus is on the content, whereby she primarily ties to bring an uplifting message to her listeners.

THE RIGHT TIME FOR SEX
I
was very impressed by the Insyder issue that tried its level best to sensitise on the ngwerty generation about premature sex and its consequences. Indeed, statistics show that most teens are having sex and even worse bragging about it.
withdrawal feelings all for the sake of what -- to be termed digital? Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! Words cannot express the volume of how disappointed I am with teens who are having sex. Does it cost you that much to wait?
Think of the consequences of your decisions.
I am just asking you to wait until you are mentally mature and have the right information about sex. And for most of you desperate enough to prove that you are the ‘it girl/guy’ in having sex, I have two words for you: ‘PROTECT YOURSELF’
HIV/AIDS, pregnancies, abortion, dropping out of school, guilt, depression and
It doesn’t cost much, does it? If you can’t wait, at least take all precautions

MY CLASSMATES WON’T STOP BOTHERING ME Hi Ed, There is this issue that has been irking me for a long time. Any time we have a school funkie or we go out for a function, my classmates are always on the lookout for the chick that I’m going to katia. I always have to hide from them when I’m hanging out with my chick, which makes me feel quite uncomfortable. To make matters worse, when the funkie or function ends, they make fun of me in class on the chick I katiad; trying to point out how ‘ugly looking’ she was (even though she was beautiful). It has really affected my studies and I don’t know what to do. What should I do?
Walter (304) Hey Walter, You must be undergoing a really tough situation if at all this issue has affected your studies. Well, in your case , I find it weird that your classmates get time to watch the chick that you are hanging out with whereas they should be minding their own business in funkies. Either way, they could be jealous that you get to hang out with the best and sexiest chics in funkies hence they want to bring you down by making fun of them. If this is not the case, they might be checking out for you and the chic you
hang out with since they know you have been a breezer for quite a long time therefore anytime you hang out with a chick, they want to see what this breezer is up to. This is the thing bro: do not let them bring you down no matter what they say. Hang out with the chick of your choice. Be yourself, and let none of your schoolmates’ funny comments hurt you. Also, continue pursuing your studies and do not let such a petty issue disrupt your learning. After all, what does not kill you makes you stronger! Ed
I WANT FREEDOM AND ATTENTION Hi Siz, My name is Brianna. Ever since I was young I have had a problem of being locked up in the diggs (crib/house). I just want my parents to realise that am no longer a child neither am I an adult but just a teen, but for them to simply understand me. I have also gone to the extent of doing publicity stunts on social network by faking my death just to get the attention. However, since then all I have been getting is negative feedback from my peers. Some have even opened pages on Facebook to mock me, the unforgettable one was where they photoshopped me in a
tomb. I feel like everyone detests my existence, they just don’t get what I’m going through. Please help me before I go all out and do something that I will end up regretting. Brianna (404) Dear Brianna, It takes quite a lot of courage and gut for one to come out of their cocoon and acknowledge their faults. I give you props for that. Have a sit-down with your parents. If it’s not possible, get a close relative to get to talk to them about what you are not comfortable with. From then on,
they can also give the reasons they have been treating you like a child. They are just being protective #Tough_ Love!! Try to understand their point of view because respect is a two-way traffic. About attention, just be yourself. There’s no way guys will want to know about you when you are busy trying to be someone else. It’s just like a pile of rocks: yes, they are made of the same matter, but they have different shapes and sizes. Be unique – be you and not what others think of you. With love, Big Siz

extreme curvy to the stomach mammie. Where that with statement pants and a pair of vans, converse or if you are daring enough do heels, top it up with a chunky necklace and a cute sling bag. go ahead and use the word) now where was I .. ooh the unisex look, try out the tartan tie, where you take a plaid tee and tie it around your waist. Also we have the button up borrowed from the vintage/retro look, it’s a casual plus formal look and adds a mature look to a teen. A$ap Rocky, Rihanna and Kanye have been doing both looks since 2012.
Also we have the crew neck sweat shirts and baggy jeans that look good with jays, vans or converse, if you aint up for the sweat shirt do a bball jersey like the number 23 Michael Jordan. Simply just go for what you are comfortable in and that, that compliments your figure. For dudes just keep it fresh don’t try too much.

ashion a statement that unites different worlds, it’s not about how much you spend but what you wear and how you co-ordinate your colours. It’s simply an extension of one’s personality, it all begins with one’s ideas. Basically, everybody wants to make a statement like, “Do you remember the dude with the Bandana tee? … or “ Do you remember the mama with the galaxy print pants at the …” After an event nowadays it is not all about the music , performances but who went there and what did they wear. How their fashion IQ and definitely the ride they had. Teens want to be around that celeb teen , the likes of Evans Githinji , Zarina Tegani, Shalizah Wambui,Brian Kiplang’at,Peter and Dennis Kibet. Why would peeps bother about them? Definitely through their fashion trends, it doesn’t take
much but just to be yourself. What are the ladies into? Leggings or the statement pants(sounds better ehy?) I must have is the Aztec pants. We also have the galaxy print pants, they have an edgey feel plus the look is just out of this world because it’s galaxy get it? Another favorite is the black and white stripes and the American print, ever wondered how the Kenyan print would look? Totally not advisable. What you should go for is the hound’s tooth and checkers pattern, as they are prints to look out for in 2014. Where can you get them, it’s not too much of a hustle, well if you want to look like everyone else go to well-known stores, but for those who are unique with their trends go to local markets where you can get them at fair prices like 400 and above. The denim die hards never go wrong, the trend has been in since the 80’s. It can either be a jacket, a top, or pants.
The bralette craze. It goes well with almost anything, from the A-Line skirt, statement pants, denim shorts, leather skirts. Print on print is for the outgoing plus daring teen, so long as you know how to pair them up, you are good to go.try out Aztec on polka dots or the polka on stripes look.
A-Line skirt
Urban chic look
For the urban look, do a crew neck sweat shirt or a woven sweater paired up with high waist pants, with vans or converse. Also one can rock the schoolboy look, a pair of khaki shorts, vans or converse, and a pair of socks with a fiiting tee or you can also go for a sweat shirt. Please let go, of the Versace tees they have been overdone. Atleast try out the bandanna or tribal print. Another obsession is on crop tops, ALERT!!! This is only meant for flat bellied ladies, no offence though to the Statement pants

t has been said that music can change the world because it can change people. Indeed, music has revamped the way people do things. The kind of music videos that are in the 21st century may leave someone wondering what the world has come to. Rap, dancehall and rock are the most popular genres of music with teeniez nowadays. But the worrying trend is the content in the videos, which arguably contributes to leading teenagers into sex, drugs and alcohol. From the X-rated lyrics to the whining and jiggling, all these have desensitised today’s youth to immoral thoughts and actions. There is clearly a correlation between the subject matter of music and the actions of the listener. Take for instance dancehall music. Even as it is deemed to glorify sexual immorality and violence, teeniez tend to adapt these themes as part of their daily lifestyle. Chillez have perfected the art of ‘whining and bubbling’ and boys have not been left out in ‘sugua-
ring’ chillez. If you doubt this then go see the madness that takes place in funkiez. Likewise, rap is no different when it comes to having sexually-explicit videos and lewd lyrics. Teeniez have emulated rappers -- from dressing to speaking. Smoking weed or shisha is also part of the rappers’ lifestyle, something that shows why most raves or parties held in Kenya today must include such or else no one is going to show up. Guys also like flossing with the lavish liquor booze they see the likes of Rick Ross and Lil Wayne with. Meanwhile, pop and rock music makes some teens seek a certain gothic look as well as some piercings on their bodies. Music videos aside, movies and series are in teeniez’ minds. Most guys buy the ‘50 bob DVDs’ that are sold in stalls. This can explain why wasee wengi hawamadangi homu when they go for holidays as they would rather
spend an entire day watching movies or series. As much as one may find these productions interesting, a good number of them promote violence and the use of drugs. One cannot hold teeniez back from these forms of contemporary entertainment. As you watch music videos, movies and series though, filter the content and decide whether or not you want to imitate what you’ve seen. Be the judge.

Being January, the sweltering sun coupled with a lot of dust was just unbearable! However, this did not hinder teeniez from having fun. Games ranged from football to hockey, handball and basketball. arbara Ng’eno aka Sage is a bubbly character whom we enjoyed spending time with. Style surrounds her as she pulled some great poses during the photography shoot. 26-year-old Sage, who is an eighth born in a family of ten children, has an undeniably lovely and smooth voice. She describes herself as a very determined lady, a lover and a very honest person. Her main influence is her mother, her late father and Jesus Christ. Although she says that she is very emotional (kucatch feelings here and there), she is very spiritual and believes that the world is more than what we see. Sage is a member of three bands: Le Tortu, Ministry of Love and Jazz Girls. She decided to sing solo back in 2011 with “So Alive”. That song, with Octopizzo, received response and Sage continued by releasing yet another single, “Maskini, about a guy she is so much in love with mpaka she is hopeless. This is for the lovey dovey type of guys. Sage’s music has been doing very well both on radio and downloads. When she hooked up with Jay A for “Dumbala”, her fans were delighted with the outcome. Sage worked as Muthoni The Drummer Queen’s backup singer for three years. She gets her musical inspiration from her life, her experiences, people around her and her world. This means that if you are a true Sage fan, you are part of her inspiration to come up with more music, more hit singles and more great performances. The most awesome thing that Sage would want to happen to her is to go to sleep and wake up as a child below five years since those guys are the ultimate VIPs of the world. They get everything they want. But for Sage, she would like to live their part and remember that life is more than superficial that there are more important things in life than what we sometimes fight for. This artiste, who is set to become a mother soon, has kept her love life on the down low. However, it has been reported that she recently parted ways with Rabbit, whom she maintains is a good friend. On mattters music, we are yearning for more of Sage’s solo work as well as crazy collaborations -- even as she promises to blow us away.

i want my freedom! Hi bro, I really envy all my friends. They get to do anything they want without their parents being on their case all the time. By anything and everything they do, I mean they can get to go out and drink and they do not even have curfews. I on the other hand, I feel like I am living under some military survey. I have to be home by 6pm and not later than 6.05pm. I do not get to go out with my friends unless I am with my big bro who just kills all the fun. To make it worse I only get to go out during the day, when all the other guys who are my age are sleeping in for them to be up at night to go out. I really hate my life right now and I do not know what to tell my parents for them to let loose like my friend’s parents. They should trust me enough not to do anything irresponsible, I mean I am an A student after all. Ama what do you think? JB, 304 Niaje JB, Every home has got its own regulations and how things are done and this may be different from your own home. It is important to appreciate parents are different and thus they have different parenting styles. So do not compare, because as they say the grass always looks greener on the other side, but is it really true? Your parents may seem strict to you but am sure they are doing this with a lot of love to protect you from the harm that is out there like drug abuse, sexual abuse and even threats of terrorism. Your parents love and want the best for you, and just because they don’t let you do some things which you consider to be fun does not mean they love you any less. It is also important to look at yourself in your parent’s eyes and ask yourself how responsible they think or feel you are to accord you the kind of freedom you are asking for. It might seem as too much protection right now, but later in life you will appreciate the protection and concern of your parents. JB, choose your friends wisely as they determine a lot about who a person is; are they just good time friends, or do they add value to your life? You are still young and you have plenty of time to do as you please when you are no longer living with your parents and you have financial freedom. Finally as a student you need to focus more on your studies and as you rightly say that you are bright, chances are if you start to have the fun you do much want, you may end up losing on your studies. the pressure is too much! What’s up siz, I am in form four now and the pressure is mounting on me to be just as good as my older siblings. My family especially my father prides himself for having the kids with the brains in our whole clan. This makes me feel like an outcast as I have never scored an A in my entire school life, talk about being the black sheep of the family. So now that I am in form four, all eyes are on me. That I should not dare shame my family by getting the B grade that I usually get. I am doing my best but I feel like my best is not enough. What should I do sis? I do not want to let my family down. I need to get that A. Noni, 404 Dear Noni, Noni, a positive outlook of being a black sheep is, being different and unique. You are Noni, and you can never be someone else, you may not give your dad an A but if you find out what your talent and passion is, you will realize that you can still be a hero in your own ground. You are unique, good and important to this world and nobody can be like you. B grade is a good grade, which can land you to a great career; you need to have a realistic goal. Like you said, you are doing what you can as a human being to get amazing results and that is what counts. There are things you have control over and some you do not, choose to let go anxiety and not to focus on what people say or the expectations they have on you especially if they don’t bring growth. If it’s possible talk to your dad with respect about your feelings, remember what he is doing it is because he want the best for you. Let him understand how that kind of pressure is affecting your studies, especially at this defining moment. If it is not possible you can talk to an adult like your mum, older siblings or someone you trust about your concerns. Noni, what you tell your mind affects your feelings and your action, tell your mind what builds you. Work towards building your own identity; remember you are destined for greatness! Love big Sis!
