Elections in Kiev should become the main political event of 2013. But they won’t bring any significant changes. The results of the opposition in the majority of Kiev constituencies during the autumn elections have brought out the expectation that the opposition representative would be able to lead the capital. But even without this beautiful dream, the elections for Kiev’s Mayor should become the main political event of the year. Read page 10

Ukraine’s long-term tribulations – between the East and the West seem to be drawn to a close. Both the EU and Russia got tired with Ukrainian multidirectionality familiar to the whole world. An escalation is appointed for autumn: in November 2013 Ukraine should sign the Association Agreement with the EU, provided that Ukraine fulfills concrete steps for answering to the questions formulated by the European Union Council. The signature of the agreement, no matter what they say, will automatically entail moving away from Russia, entangling their bilateral relations and breaking of their economic ties. That’s what Vladimir Putin repeatedly mentioned, and for the present we have no reason not to trust his threatening. Read page 8
