Planning
I’m nervous to be in front of the camera for our engagement shoot—how can I feel more comfortable?
Brittny Drye: That’s totally normal. For most couples, it’s their first time getting professionally photographed, and it can feel incredibly intimidating being the sole focus of the lens. Let your photographer be your guide—trust their advice and direction when it comes to posing, even if it feels a little awkward in the moment. Just have your partner whisper something funny in your ear when it gets too uncomfortable—your natural laugh will make for a stellar photo. Also, do something for yourself so you feel amazing— buy a new outfit or get pampered with professional hair and makeup for an added confidence boost.
Fashion
What kind of undergarments should I plan to wear to my dress fitting?
Mark Ingram: Try to wear the same undergarments you’ll be wearing on your actual wedding day. Many gowns today have a built-in corset and bust cups (or they can be easily added), so an additional bra isn’t always necessary. Your undergarment needs will also depend on your body type, and the fabrication and structure of your gown. Ask your consultant for their recommendation before purchasing any added pieces.
Reception
How do I tell my guests I want to have an unplugged ceremony?
Mary Chatman: A simple note on your wedding website and a small, concise sign advising guests that you're having an unplugged wedding should suffice. Say something like, "We want our friends and family to be present at our ceremony, so we will ask that you put away all cameras and cell phones. We've hired an amazing photographer, so don't worry--this memory will be captured and we can't wait to share the photos with you." It gets the point across without cell phone shaming.
